Possibly most romantic place in Atl

By JRDurden |

I thoroughly enjoyed dining here with my wife. I have to say that everyone should opt for the outdoor patio during daylight hours if the weather permits & the grounds are quite scenic. Our appetizer was the smoked salmon with goat cheese & its prob the best rendition of smoked salmon I’ve ever had. The duck/beef burger was quite tasty & our server noted that it’s probably the best burger in the city. While I haven t had enough burgers to agree & think it’s in the running. My wife opted for the snapper which was good, not great. I have to not that the truffle fries that came with the meal were the best fries I’ve ever had in Atlanta.

Wonderful restaurant that just falls short of 5 stars

By Bob B |

Wife and I decided it had been some time since we'd had a date night. Our criteria was fresh, farm-to-table type food. I reached out to Canoe and was lucky to get an 8:30 reservation. We showed up a few minutes late due to forgetting to hit an ATM for a tip for the mandatory valet, but they quickly showed us to our table. Our server went over the menu and specials and gave us plenty of time to decide our meal. We got the smoked salmon and kangaroo appetizers, both of which were absolutely amazing. The smoked salmon is over a sort of hash browned potato cake with a wonderful goat cheese base and capers. They provide 4 servings, plenty for my wife and I to share. The kangaroo was so delicately prepared, it was hard to tell from a tender rare steak. Absolutely delicious. For our main entrees, I opted for the basil crusted cod and my wife chose the filet of sole special. The cod came with basil whipped mashed potatoes, which were awesome. The sole was just ok and the preparation was quite oily. This is the only area where the restaurant fell short. For desert we had a glass of armagnac and a chocolate tart filled with salted caramel, which was good, but I might opt for something else next time. Overall, the service was outstanding. Along with our meal, we had two drinks (dirty vodka martini and the Rocky Mountain Way special) and two glasses of wine (a French Bordeaux and French Sancerre), which were wonderful as well. Total bill came to just over $200. There was so much to choose from and we will definitely return to try some of the other wonderful appetizers and entrees.

Beautiful setting on the River

Food is just a little too frou frou for me me. Everything is prepared in a special way. No hamburgers, but burgers from ground duck meat....Not on my list of favorites.

It is not how you act when things go well, but how you act when they do not

By Gregg B |

I went here for lunch recently, and I have to say the setting is incredible. It is one of the best spots I have been to in Georgia for sure. The portions are large and well priced. The service is incredible (albeit not sure valet parking is required!). I really enjoyed my shrimp spring rolls, salmon on hash browns and the burger. My colleague had a major issue with her food, the management decided to clear our entire bill which is way above our expectations (we didn't actually complain), so fair play to them for this as it wasn't necessary to do this. They were fair and very communicative, and despite the issue I will come back in the future.

Disappointed

By Kate T |

My husband and I drove over an hour to get to Canoe. The setting was lovely and the restaurant itself was quite charming. We had reservations,, but arrived early, but didn’t have to wait. My husband ordered the snapper, which came out cold and was ok. The waiter told me they had vegetarian options and could do anything but I wasn’t accommodated. I’m used to that but thought the response was unfriendly. Not worth the drive.

Great Location / Atmosphere / Food

By Robin T |

Wonderful food. We had a birthday celebration and they really looked after us. Great view, wonderful staff.

Great Night

By waxandgold |

Canoe is responsible for one of the greatest evenings in 2020. Everything we ate and drank exceeded our expectations. Thomas, our server, and the entire staff went above and beyond to deliver superior service and hospitality. I would recommend Canoe to everyone who enjoys eating out in Atlanta, unless you are mean and unreasonable to restaurants. Grab a reservation and have a wonderful evening!

Really a great restaurant-

Really a great restaurant- innovative and well executed menu - solid wine list - friendly staff — a bit out of the way but worth the trip

Wonderful Dinner along the River

By James W |

Our adult family enjoyed a wonderful meal in a beautiful location. My wife had dined here many years ago and insisted that the next generation come with us to again enjoy this restaurant. We did eat inside the restaurant (as opposed to the porch area), however, the seating is tiered allowing most dinners a view of the river flowing peacefully on it was to the Gulf of Mexico.I had the chicken while my wife had the trout. Both dishes were excellent. Appetizers included arugula salads and heirloom tomatoes. By the end of the dinner courses, we just had no room for dessert. After dinner we enjoyed a nice stroll to the riverside. In all, it was a beautiful evening.

UP A RIVER WITHOUT A PADDLE WITH THIS CANOE...

By Hector K |

We were celebrating our anniversary. The employees were nice enough to acknowledge our special day. It's a great view of the river if they give you a good table. Unfortunately, we were sat to the side with a view of dirty stairs and what looked like an abandoned tent used for receptions. Dirty martinis and breadbasket were good and after an hour had passed, we finally received our 8oz cold rare Beef Tenderloin and dry Roasted Duroc Pork Chop. I ordered medium and got a cold bloody piece of beef. My boyfriend took two bites of the pork and couldn't bring himself to send it back. I declined my plate. They did offer to replace it but after waiting an hour for food that clearly had sat waiting to be served, I was disenchanted. To make up for the bad food they gave us a free hard dessert that looked like someone rejected it. They finally indicated that we would not be charged for the $60 bloody piece of beef. If the river swelled and washed this Canoe away would be the only improvement made. I digress, as fortunately there are many other amazing restaurants in Atlanta.

LOVE LOVE LOVE

We went on Sunday. It might be my favorite brunch ever. Set us back a hefty penny but the service and food and ambience were amazing.

Beautiful outdoor seating

By Kiana L |

This was my first time going to Canoe after living in Atlanta for nearly 30 years. If you choose to eat outside, you will have a beautiful view of the grounds and Chattahoochee River! Service was amazing. Our waiter had great recommendations. Food was delicious, especially the dessert! I do wish there was more lighting outside at night. It got really dark for us. We could barely see our plates. Overall, I would definitely recommend.

An exceptional meal and service!

By Rwarren4577 |

Last nights meal at Canoe was exceptional. Our server was knowledgeable, gracious and did everything you would expect a top restaurant would offer. The food was incredible surrounded by beautiful views of the restaurants gardens and river.

Perfect spot for a special occasion.

By Bebe30513 |

My husband made reservations saying it was our 26th anniversary (they said it would never last). We were greeted with “Happy Anniversary “ by the hostess. Impressed. We got there a bit early so we could have a few couple of drinks in the bar. When our table (comfy booth) was ready we were seated by someone who wished us a happy anniversary. Wow! When our server came he greeted us by our names and wished us a happy anniversary. He proceeded to hand us menus that had Happy Anniversary at the top. Talk about impressed! Service from beginning to end was unparalleled. We had calamari and olive bread to start. I had the cod my husband had rabbit. And ended with the chocolate dessert, that had Happy Anniversary written in chocolate. All fabulous. If we make it to our 27th we might just go back!

Excellent Food and Service

By Lauren T |

Canoe never disappoints. Celebrated a friend’s birthday, and from the minute we arrived to the minute we left, they were attentive, accommodating, and the food was fantastic. Our server Joel was amazing. One of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta.

Excellent all around!

By Charleston&travel |

Just had my second visit to this restaurant and both experiences were great! The Butternut Squash Soup with Sumac Shrimp was phenomenal! It had a little Thai twang to it which was delish! I had the Caesar salad and it was excellent as well! You can tell that they made the dressing from scratch! My family member had the George’s Bank Cod dish with mashed potatoes and spinach. That was excellent as well. Not to mention the beautiful view! Ask for a booth if it is available because they are slightly raised and overlook the river! Would highly recommend this restaurant! Great views, service, and food!

Best brunch!

By Kostas K |

As I got this graving for a true "eat-heavy" brunch, my friends suggested CANOE. Well, we did eat heavy but all was perfectly done. The personnel is genuinely polite and highly experienced. Cocktails are STRONG! (and this is good!) A bit pricey but all worth it.

Great place! A change from

By Dimpled6299 |

Great place! A change from the ordinary, this Buckhead establishment is great! We have ate here several times, and the view and food here are outstanding. This is one of the best restaurants in Atlanta and every time we go, we order something new. All entrees have a lot of thought and love put in to them.

Seriously Amazing

By Jessica B |

The ambiance of the restaurant was perfect, dimmed lighting and the outdoor bar near the river was on point, the kangaroo and blueberry granola concoction was to die for! Service was impeccable - our server was very hospitable and paid very close attention to all details. #thelittlethingsmatter This was truly an experience and I would consider my top 5 restaurants in Atlanta :)

Monthly Lunch with A Friend

By Barb White |

A friend and I met at Canoe for a late lunch. We are both new residents of Atlanta so one of the ways to experience our new city is to try out its restaurants. Our first impression was good - great Valet service and greeting by the Concierge. We were seated immediately although I was 10 minutes late for our reservation. The restaurant's setting and ambiance are excellent as its is located by the river. and there is a view of the grounds and river. Our server was very attentive and had excellent knowledge of the menu. I had a jumbo lump crab cake with butternut squash soup. The soup was excellent but was not hot. The crab cake was disappointing. it was a miniature crab cake which was heavily breaded and appeared (tasted) to DEEP FRIED. My friend had salmon and soup and he enjoyed his salmon. We had desserts which were very good - I had pear tart and he had a chocolate tart with ice cream. Dessert did not disappoint. It was a very good experience and I will certainly return to this restaurant. However someone should tell the chef that "jumbo lump crab cake" as an entree is usually not breaded, nor deep-fried ! Cardinal sin !

Wonderful food but other aspects could be improved

By Jan01234 |

Canoe came highly recommended by virtually all of our Atlanta friends and acquaintances and the food lived up to the hype. We were a party of four and every dish was excellent. The high point was probably the perfectly done kangaroo -- better than any we had during a recent trip to Australia!. The riverside setting was also beautiful -- though it was far too hot and muggy to spend much time outside the night we were there. But …. The ambient noise level was very high -- unbefitting of a restaurant of this quality. In part this was the result of having very little spacing between tables. The service was also uneven -- it began very slowly between being seated, ordering and having the initial beverage service. But after that the rest of the meal felt rushed. Admittedly the restaurant appeared to be full the night we dined, but the pacing left a lot to be desired. So, in summary we all loved the food but not so much the ambience

Worth the visit!

By Fabreeze131 |

We went there for my husband’s birthday. He’s been wanting to go here for years, and made sure we made reservations over a month in advance. This place did not disappoint! There is valet parking which is free and they do take Venmo for tip. Our server was fantastic. She was attentive, gracious and provided excellent recommendations. The restaurant itself their makes your think your in an upside down canoe or in a boat house. Very on theme with the name. The bread was homemade, and the walnut and cranberry/raisin were incredible. We ordered two appetizers, the calamari and the kangaroo Wellington. The calamari was delicious amazing flavors. The kangaroo was very good, the mushrooms and sauce were very strong with the flavors. My husband got the pork chop and risotto. He liked them both very much. I got the venison and the tortellini. Pasta was homemade, you could taste that immediately. The cheese blend was good except for the blue cheese. It wasn’t equally balanced and blew out the taste. The venison was cooked perfectly, but after the cut it, I could really get the flavoring in the middle (which is a shame, the two ends were packed with flavor). For dessert, we ordered the strawberry soft pretzel bread pudding. I would have come here JUST for that dessert. The soft pretzel absorbed all the mixture and it was on point. Highly recommend. Before we drove back home, we hung out in their garden area on the water. There’s also a space for a wedding (where there was one going on at that time) and a cocktail reception. It was a lovely meal and highly recommend visiting it the next time you visit.

Great food and service....but hot

By KellyKinsey |

Great restaurant, food and service. The only issue we had was that our table was HOT...and the server said that happens in Atlanta during the summer months. Yikes....at a nice restaurant, they need to fix the a/c to keep up with Atlanta's hot months. We will come back when we are back in town...but only in spring/fall months.

Great dining experience with beautiful views

By Teri K |

Absolutely delicious food, great service and a beautiful setting. Arrive a little ahead of your reservation time so you can enjoy some time outside at their outdoor bar or just walking around. Right on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, its really pretty back there. The menu changes, but we had a smoked salmon appetizer that was delicious and then a tuna special and the scallops dish both of which were wonderful. Our server was Kat and she was fantastic! Check this place out if/when you're in the Atlanta area for sure.

A Wonderful Evening

By Marjorie C |

We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Canoe; the whole experience from walking in the door to leaving was a delight. Everyone wished us a happy anniversary from the host to our delightful sever, Della. She described the menu and wine in detail and served us with care and attention. The food was delicious and our vegan daughter found much to her liking! Thank for a wonderful evening!

Fantastic restaurant.

By RunningOnAndOn |

Great food, great service, great location. Our server was Brandon and he was the best. Try the kangaroo and rabbit. We had a table of 8 people and everyone loved their dinner. Make a reservation.

Excellent experience

By CobaltConnection |

From the friendly and efficient parking valet to the hostess, to our server, Ian... The experience at Canoe does not disappoint. Service was a little rushed as we arrived at 8:05 ( they close at 9:00), but professional and personable. My tenderloin was served rare and cool although I ordered Medium, but this small issue was rectified with my steak being recooked. Everything from our drinks to our appetizers and later, our dessert, was delicious.

Amazing taste, classy atmosphere & fantastic service!

By kandisBlaze |

Not my first time here and definitely will not be my last, absolutely love the food! Have moved every single item I’ve tried thus far from Smoked Salmon, Crispy Calamari, Oyster or Mercier Apple Salad to the best variety of desserts! Popcorn is one of my fav’s for sure!!

Can You Canoe? Table for 10

By ScottD58 |

Business dinner. Made Rez for 8, then 9 then 10, staff accommodated very well. Something for everyone - appetizers, classic yet creative main dishes, solid wine selection. Dessert was over the top - price was reasonable. Grounds are gorgeous. Can you Canoe?

Supposed to have a nice view, but …

By PKgaUSA |

The outside is beautiful. Unfortunately, our table had the view of a shabby staircase. The food was presented well. However, the salmon was **extremely** salty. The server was friendly and did a great job.

The Best Restaurant in Atlanta

By E P |

This to me is not only the best restaurant in Atlanta, but one of the the best restaurants in the US. Every time I come here, I always wonder if it will live up to my last experience, and every time it exceeds it. This was no different. When you enter Canoe, you find the hostess to be very friendly and professional. Right away you feel like you are in a for a top notch experience. If you get there a little early, definitely enjoy a drink outside on the river. What better way to get ready for dinner. When you are seated you will find whoever is your waiter or waitress to be very well versed on the menu. It is wonderful just to hear them describe the highlights and specials of the evening. We did try the kangaroo and had scallops for appetizers. I personally would not recommend the kangaroo. Not that it wasn't cooked right, it just wasn't that tasty a dish. The scallops on the other hand were perfect. For an entree I had the special with was Monkfish with jalapeño infused grits. I do not like grits, but thought maybe the chef knows better. Well he did, the meal was amazing and.i would order this meal every week if I could. Once again a perfect sized portion. We all had a different dessert and called it a night. If you have one night in Atlanta for a special meal, this is the place!

Beautiful experience.... mostly

Visited Canoe to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday, and was blown away by the romantic setting on the chatahoochee. The food was superb along with the cocktails and wine, our server was attentive, polite and knowledgeable and we had a great time until the bill came and my card didn’t go through. Now I know this type of thing happens during travel but after assuring our server he should try again that there was some mistake he refused saying the card wasn’t working. Even called the bank who told me there was no hold on the account which can occur when you’re out of town and making strange purchases. Eventually we convinced him to manually enter the card info and he begrudgingly did so. Lo and behold it went right through. Although everything turned out alright we felt like we were treated as if we had done something wrong when clearly they had made the mistake. And when speaking with the manager, Kevin, he could not even offer a heartfelt apology but continued to make us feel as if we had done something wrong. It quickly turned from one of the best dinners I’ve ever had to an embarrassing let down. Sadly my girlfriends birthday dinner was not what I had wished, and we left feeling disappointed after dropping $250 + on dinner for two. Canoe was great, try it for yourself and I’m sure you’ll enjoy. But for us, they fell a little short.

Another killer dinner!

By FeedBob |

We just reconnected with Canoe after moving from the Atlanta area. While we were gone, we often told others visiting ATL it was well worth a visit though we hadn’t been back for a while. The verdict? It’s never been better! The food, service and setting might be equaled somewhere, but they cannot be beaten. Be sure to get a reservation and arrive early for a chance to enjoy a cocktail outside by the river. Dinner needs to include an appetizer like the house smoked salmon. The entrees are all super. My favs are the trout, duck and halibut. The steak and pork chop are killer too. But, you have to have dessert. Consider sharing the Popcorn Sundae. Imagine buttered popcorn, soaked in cream, that cream strained and churned into ice cream and then building a peanut, caramel and popcorn sundae with it. Totally worth the calories! Do Canoe; you won’t regret it.

Always Wonderful!

By citizen0103 |

I’ve been to Canoe a few times over the years when I visit Atlanta. It has always been Great and never disappointed! Our server Tyler was great! And, everyone from the reception area to the helpers are impeccably trained. Aside from the amazing food and service the view . . . Did I say the view? It is lovely and you can even go out and stroll in the garden!😊 I am pretty health minded and I’m not saying that the truffle fries with Parmesan cheese are Good or bad, but by golly they are delicious. 😛One of my favorite things is that they are real potatoes. Not sure if they cut them there, but they are real and not covered in unidentified gunk! The salmon appetizer is a resounding yes! The Bucatini Bolognese was extremely flavorful. Not a big pasta person, but the flavors were irresistible!😛 We also had the chicken taco dish wish was also good. Chocolate cake was Good, but didn’t blow my socks off!

A "must experience" dining destination.

By Wevelyn63 |

Canoe was recommended a while ago by a friend and last week we made an impromptu decision to dine there. Upon arrival, we chose to utilize the complimentary valet service. While reservations are strongly advised due to the popularity, we were fortunate enough to be seated immediately in the main dining room. We were immediately greeted by our server, Patricia, who took first-class care of us the entire evening. The restaurant overlooks scenic gardens, with a river just beyond - a beautiful backdrop for a wedding ceremony, or similar occasion. Canoe boasts and extensive wine selection, both by the bottle, and by the glass. They pride themselves on their specialty fish and game dishes, which we both had the opportunity to enjoy. The food was fresh, well presented, and perfectly cooked. I would once again like to recognize Patricia for her guidance and food recommendations. Overall, a fantastic experience. Canoe should be on anyone's "go-to" list as an exceptional dining venue.

Ty the bartender

By Burkles |

While down visiting my mother for Christmas, I had the urge to sneak out with my siblings to find a good cocktail and some grub on Christmas Eve. I stumbled upon Canoe searching for something in the Mableton area. We had an AMAZING time here. The cocktails were perfect (thank you Ty) and the calamari was fantastic. My wife has a gluten allergy and the kitchen whipped her up something nice as well. We will 100% be back here. Big props to Ty for treating us so well, and giving us a great experience.

Foodies Dream!

By CVS |

Amazing atmosphere, both inside and out. But the food is the real star. If you're around for brunch it's a must! The carrot spiced walnut bread is ridiculous! I've also been for dinner and my favorite thing on the menu is slow braised rabbit! The mushrooms melt-in-your-mouth! Any dessert is worth trying but my favorite is the popcorn ice cream. Ask for Tim at the bar for the best cocktails in Vinings! He's awesome!

All around amazing

By Heather |

It was great to have lunch at a place with great food, ambiance, and service. We were especially happy with the hospitality. Our server Chris was informative about the menu, made us feel welcomed, and was nice to chat with. We very much enjoyed the smoked salmon appetizer. It was an amazing fine dining experience with a reasonable price tag. We hope to visit again soon.

Anniversary dinner

Our dinner & service was exceptional! Brian G was our waiter & we could not have asked for better service. The food was delicious & enjoying a view of the Chattahoochee River added to a wonderful evening.

Wow!

By NC0016 |

Made reservations not knowing what to expect and Canoe exceeded all expectations. Parking was by valet and very efficient. We were seated immediately per our reservation. It was dark so we couldn’t see the water, but am sure it is lovely in the spring. The menu is eclectic due to the chef’s origins from Australia. Fish and game are the specialties. Our server Joel was excellent and gave advice without being pushy. We had multiple members checking on us to ensure we wanted for nothing. Our fish dishes we fabulous, both tasty and reasonably priced. The split a salad for appetizer. Excellent wine choices too. We will definitely be back!

Just an ok dinner, here is why

By AaronC |

Just an ok dinner. We were at Canoe Saturday night. Very nice setting and we enjoyed the ambiance. The big miss for us was the lack of vegetarian options. Two of our six went along with waiter’s suggestion that we let her know what veg were to be avoided (only kale and collards). They were served a bowl of fettuccine with a few cherry tomatoes, some asparagus, parsley, and olive oil. For a modern, $100 a plate restaurant (our 6 had a combined bill of 600), you would expect your veg guests would still be served high end, interesting food. Very disappointing. Add a vegetarian option to your menu please! Not every guest wants kangaroo or lamb. SMH.

Iconic Canoe

By Susan L |

This restaurant has been around for many many years. People go there for very special occasions because the setting is so beautiful. In spring and summer you can get a table outside (if you reserve early enough). The wait staff is very attentive, the menu is ever changing and delicious. It is not cheap but it IS memorable.

Beautiful setting

By fpBrazier |

Canoe is in a beautiful setting and the food is delicious! We appreciated the peaceful dining area as there were no screens blaring out sports results and commentary. I would recommend this restaurant highly!

Graduation lunch

By CRMATL |

It’s been around for 25 years with a dedicated following. Atmosphere is comfortable and the views are pleasant. Portions are huge and the menu standard fare. Truffle fries are worth trying.

Birthday dinner

By Heaven M |

Booked this place for my birthday dinner during my Atlanta trip. Complimentary valet was great. Atmosphere and view was amazing. We had a great view of the garden from our table inside. Menu was FABULOUS!!! Food was amazing. Boyfriend got the rainbow trout and I got lamb. 10/10 for food. 100% worth the price. Waiter Corey was attentive and so kind! We can't wait to visit again!

Awesome meal at the bar

By CaptainSkinny |

This is the fourth or fifth time we’ve been here and every time it’s been fantastic. The food is excellent and the people watching is good too.

Great Food But

By Brenda L |

Canoe has great food and the ambience is great. My son took me to Canoe for dinner to celebrate my birthday a couple of weeks ago. There is not any Covid-19 protocol. Most of the employees are not wearing masks and this is not good when you are serving food during a pandemic. Most of the restaurants I have been to during this pandemic practice safety during these uncertain times. If I would have known the servers were not wearing masks, I would have chosen another restaurant.

Paddle your way over to Canoe for tasty Brunch!

By Holly K |

My husband thought it was a great idea to book Canoe for brunch and I was a bit apprehensive due to some of the reviews but as a vegetarian GO and go early ;) Valet park, free just tip and the nicest young men, heck most days you pay more for coffee in a big city! Tip well! Next up inside or outside seating… we arrived and the hostess asked us which we would like… due to the cold weather, we chose inside and walked the garden and sat by the river and enjoyed lithe atmosphere after brunch. Our waiter could not have been more patient, helpful and a bit funny (no Seinfeld but a good sense of humor). He helped us replace bacon with additional fluffy eggs (or I could have had slices of avocado, additional potatoes, etc). I loved that the kitchen was willing to work with us and no just remove the bacon (a lot of places do this). Our waiter suggested starting with a pastry basket (small $10/ large $16). Scones and sticky buns. We ended up taking home the sticky buns. It also comes with three types of butter. Yuuuuuummmmmyyyy! I ordered The Riverside” – Roasted Bacon, (replaced the bacon with additional eggs) Scrambled Eggs, Hash Browns, French Toast, Berries* 18 I loved the eggs, light and fluffy, the hash browns - little squares of crispy, lightly salted, carbohydrate goodness (is that a thing???)! I will say the French toast was not my favorite and I guess it is just not what I grew up on. French toast is just a piece of bread, soaked in milk/eggs, grilled, swerved hit, this is not. This was brioche and cold. My husband ordered the French toast and enjoyed it so I guess it all depends on the person. The coffee and tea are priced so your caffeine buzz in. My husband decided also to get Bloody Mary. After a delightful brunch we walked the backyard and sat in the sun by the river for :20. It was perfect on a chilly morning. If you have to wait in a table perhaps grab a glass of wine or cocktail (or coffee) and head to the river and enjoy the quiet. Make a reservation! Go early! Enjoy such a pretty place! ;)

Canoe Dinner: Dazzling the Taste Buds!

By ruthieworldtravels |

Canoe is a 5-Star establishment across the board! It must be stated that the entire menu is mouth watering. My first visit to Canoe, October 2020 was for a birthday celebration. First things first---the breads with butter . . . delish! For appetizers I enjoyed the "Marinated Golden Red Beet Salad" (Whipped Goat Cheese and Candied Walnuts). It resembled a dessert in its lovely presentation. Also, Canoe's "House Smoked Salmon Crispy Potato Cake" (Vermont Goat Cheese) a cold appetizer, full of flavor that makes the taste buds do flips. The combination of savory, crunchy and creamy---was satisfying and scrumptious. My entree the "Roasted Springer Mountain Chicken" (Pear, Sweet Potato Hash, Cranberry Gravy) was roasted to perfection. The taste of the chicken-superb, juicy and very flavorful. The combination of textures and flavors is a culinary delight for lovers of fine dining. A mellow Reisling was my drink of choice--- not too dry, not too sweet. Went excellently with the superb meal. The ambience is warm and inviting. The service-top notch. The server provided service with a smile, was kind and patient. Definitely a place for those with refined taste, who will appreciate the art of fine dining.

Excellent Cuisine and Service in a Beautiful Setting...

By tobymarietta |

I think this is one of the best restaurants in the metro Atlanta area. Located in the Vinings area, the place has been open for 28 years now. The park like setting on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, can't be beat. Ask to be seated in the River Room, if possible. There is a patio should you wish to dine outdoors, weather permitting. We were seated right on time. Our most excellent server, Morgan, brought menus and water promptly. After ordering drinks, Morgan went over the menu. I will have to say the servers here are very well trained. They know the menu inside and out. It obvious, they get to taste the dishes and have the chefs explain how they are prepared. We ordered a salmon appetizer that was great. I had the duck breast confit, others order the rabbit and scallops. All were delicious. One of our friends had a birthday, so we were treated to nice salted carmel ice cream dessert. An overall great dining experience.

Luncheon

I am always satisfied and happy with the service and food here. This is a place that you easily go back to for more :) great dinner menu. Great lunch. The ambiance is lovely and peaceful, the outdoor garden is dreamy and so well kept

Not a Steak House

By MiltonMan007 |

BEAUTIFUL atmosphere overlooking the river but mediocre food. Not being a lover of wild game, I ordered a filet Mignon and was VERY disappointed in the taste of the steak. Won't be returning....

Anniversary Delight

By osnoopy13 |

My wife and I decided to dine at Canoe for our anniversary. My brother and his wife recommended it as their favorite restaurant in the Atlanta area. Everything was perfect! Free valet parking. Easy reservations. Comfortable and beautiful accommodations. Excellent service. Great appetizer and food selections. I especially loved the peach and marinaded watermelon salad. Recommend the baked cod or tenderloin entrees. Nice wine selections. After the meal don’t forget to take a stroll around the beautiful outside gardens or sit a while watching the Chattahoochee river sparkling with the garden lights. If you’re lucky you might even see a hummingbird or two dining on the outside feeders.

Nice place

By StoffHub |

Ambiance is nice and so is the staff. Valet service offered at no cost. Dishes are quite good, only improvement point is that it is a lot and that for example the main course (new york strip steak) is presented on top of the potatoes / vegetables (whereby I would have preferred a bigger plate or separate side dish). But the food and service were very good so that counts most!

Wonderful Sunday Brunch

By joenjillavl |

Wonderful! We had Sunday brunch and it was amazing. Everything is house made and fantastic. Patricia our server was great and we had a wonderful experience. We will be coming back for dinner next time we are in Atlanta. Grounds outside behind restaurant were lovely to take a stroll around after eating and they have beautiful event venues. Was very kid friendly, they had a kids brunch menu and were very accommodating.

Very disappointing

By Paul52Atlanta |

This is a beautiful restaurant on the river that tries, sometimes too hard, to push the envelope with most of the dishes. In other words, the menu makes it hard not to try new ingredients and flavor combinations. This would be a good thing if the dishes were well conceived and well executed in the kitchen. Neither was true of the new "spring menu" at Canoe. A Georgia wild shrimp appetizer was oddly flavored and overcooked. The Vidalia onion soup was a bland concoction with a mushy consistency. The duck/beef burger was overcooked, as was the chicken dish. The $48 tenderloin is served on oddly flavored hummus. I'm guessing the chef is trying too hard and kitchen is struggling to execute a complicated menu in a very large, crowded restaurant. The service was slow and indifferent. The restaurant is very noisy. Doubt if I'll be back.

Beautiful Setting by the River.

Beautiful Setting by the River. Went in May 2020 after reopening from COVID-19. Felt safe with staff wearing masks and tables apart. Fantastic dining experience. Kangaroo was very good. Rabbit was perfect. Chocolate dessert to die for!

Great restaurant

By chadz52 |

Maybe the current best restaurant in Atlanta. I say maybe because I haven’t ate in all of Atlanta restaurants yet. The ambience and service in Canoe is the best I have experienced. The drinks are spot on and of good quality. We had the salmon and cod and was excellently presented and prepared.

Outdoor Lunch on the Hooch!

By ah64fish |

First time going for lunch. Service was top notch just like dinner. The cod was some of the best I’ve had. It melted in your mouth more like Chilean sea bass.

Top notch dining experience

By CTTraveler1234 |

Dined here for birthday celebration with 10 family members. The staff is great - from the waiters to the hostess to the busboys. very knowledgeable, extremely friendly. The appetizer of smoked salmon and goat cheese was amazing! I had the NY strip - cooked perfectly with incredible potatoes. All dinners were good for our guests: duck, salmon, pasta dish, etc. A night to remember!

A very good experience on a beautiful day in Atlanta

By Jasongordo1 |

Canoe was one of the staples of the Atlanta restaurant scene even when I moved here in 1998. I had not been back in a while, and especially after Covid. Would it be the same? Luckily, the answer was yes. The weather and location carried the day as it was one of the first spring days in the city. Sitting near the river was great, and the food was good as well. The servers were as attentive as ever, and the unique options on the menu, like kangaroo, were a nice change from the "same old" things usually served. I would certainly return, especially with summer around the corner. Well done!

fabulous setting; magnificent food

By Caroldress127 |

Set by the Chattahoochee River, this Atlanta gem has wonderful entrees and fabulous desserts! We would go back again and again!

Beautiful outdoor area with a view and great food.

By EC1000 |

We come here every time we are in Atlanta. Lovely atmosphere and beautiful outdoor area with great food. This time we particularly liked the yuzu infused watermelon salad, deliciously balanced with the right amount of spice. Weather was nice and we sat in their beautiful outdoor terrace. Great place to celebrate a birthday.

Beautiful

By Blkstarr26 |

A beautiful scene. Very romantic and good for a special date night. I would recommend sitting outside so that you can take it in. It’s on the river, but it was too dark to see. Some of the guests seemed kind of uppity, and even our server at times, but the host staff was very kind. As for food, it was just okay. The menu is fairly small, not too many options to overwhelm, which I appreciated. There were some interesting things in there...kangaroo or rabbit anyone? I ordered the steak medium, but it was still a bit dry. Not too flavorful, but presented well. I really liked the crackers from the bread basket. They have a little kick to them.

Amazing meal!

By Novers |

This was my first time and it was amazing. We had the oysters, then I had the grilled salmon. The food, service and atmosphere were amazing. I would absolutely go here again

Special!

By profmom1 |

We desperately wanted a special night out after months of quarantine. The food was excellent--my daughter loved the rabbit--and the service was outstanding. Try the kangaroo appetizer and the popcorn sundae. You can't go wrong with them.

Romantic Dinner

By Nathan S |

This is the place to wow a date or cuddle up to your significant other! Always a romantic time and great food. The beverage service is good as they have many wine choices and speciality cocktails. You won’t be disappointed.

Perfect as always

By Tom S |

Love this restaurant! Go a few times a year. They have the most attention to detail and change the menu often. Staff are well trained and knowledgeable on everything from all menu items and wine. They alway go above and beyond what an average 5 star restaurant would do. Almost don’t want to post this as that will only make it more difficult to get a reservation :)

25th anniversary dinner

Great experience as expected. Dined for our 25th anniversary. Did not disappoint! Amazing that the high standards are metro from year to year.

We had a wonderful birthday dinner celebration for my brothers! Brian was the best great recommendation for cocktails. appetizers, entree and dessert! Super helpful and everything was great! We had crab cake, smoked salmon, octopus and calamari all were fantastic! The entrees we had were NY Strip, Pasta, Rabbit- oh my so so good and the sides were perfect and the special was Snapper so delicious! Did I mention the breads too good, my favorite was flatbread with the perfect hint of heat and for dessert the popcorn ice cream sundae- caramel popcorn, ice cream and caramel who knew? Brian really made us feel special, but everyone very welcoming from valet to hostess and all who helped to make our night such a treat!! We’ll be back

Such a special lunch

By KRCLofAL |

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Canoe on a sunny Monday. The hostess was kind enough to open the gate so we could wander along the river and she was gracious enough to take our pictured. She also gave some wonderful meal recommendations. KJ was our server and she provided great service. We shared the truffle fries and the shrimp salad with a delicious Sauvignon blanc. She kindly halved our portions as we were sharing a meal. Her dessert recommendation was incredibly good. She also offered us the flat bread to take with us and it was such a kind gesture. This entire experience of having lunch at Canoe was delightful experience and I cannot wait to return.

Dinner with friends in the ATL

By Steve P |

Holy cow!! Has to be one of my top restaurants, if not my top. The experience was over the top. The food was unbelievable from the appetizers to the dessert. We started the evening with a beet salad and the Kangaroo wellington, our main course was a selection of braised duck breast or rabbit. We finished it off with a couple desserts. As one in the group had a gf food allergy, they met that on all the dishes. The service was outstanding. The entire staff new the entire menu completely.

Resting on its past laurels.....

By afoodyetreasonable |

This restaurant is beautiful (especially the outdoor patio) yet the food was completely mediocre and it is obvious that they are resting on their longstanding reputation. We know food and were in the high end catering business in the past. We were extremely disappointed in the bland taste of the food and uninspiring menu selections. We were really looking forward to enjoying this iconic Atlanta restaurant and it is sad that the restaurant made no effort to please in all respects and we cut restaurants a lot of slack since we know how challenging the restaurant business can be. We so many other choices of fine restaurants in the Atlanta area we would give this one a pass!

Nice place to eat with great service!

By Hollycraft |

Have been here a couple of times for lunch but this was the first time for dinner. Food was great as usual and Carrie Kraft gave us excellent service! Feel the prices are a little high but guess it goes with the area.

Great service & attention

By AVBuuny241 |

Enjoyed a Tuesday evening dinner - awesome place and attentive service. Once they got busy they got a lil distracted but the food was on point.

Great food and outstanding service

By Lolly B |

This is a beautiful place both inside and out. It was rainy and chilly outside but we were still able to enjoy looking at the river and the grounds from the ceiling to floor windows. Great food and atmosphere and outstanding service. Pricey, but well worth the cost.

Nice view, terrible service

By Jkk |

Nice view terrible food, crap service and over priced drinks, no parking except valet, so many other choices in the area

Always pleasant but not in my top ten

By bonne306 |

It has been a long time since I have been to Canoe. Our server was excellent and the food was very good , but not outstanding. My crab cakes were not impressive due to a lack of savory elements. The ambiance is nice but 4 of us had to sit shoulder to shoulder in a booth on the porch to even carry on a conversation.

Work meeting

Food was excellent. I have a “no dairy “ issue and the staff/chef were very accommodating. Our group had desserts ( that I could not eat. How I wish I could ! Popcorn ice cream ??!!! Wha ??? Shut the front door !

Good

Service was very good. Food was good but not spectacular. Great menu - interesting choice. Would just hope for more distinctive flavours.

Disappointing dining experience -- a hot mess!

By Lesli S |

We have heard such great reviews about Canoe, so we decided to go with our family for our 40th wedding anniversary. The appetizers were delicious. However, our entrees were a hot mess! After waiting for our entrees for what seemed like a lifetime, three pork chops were overcooked, and the venison was not hot. So we waiting some more for them to come out properly. No apologies, and no manager came to our table. You would think if you're spending that much money on dinner that in the very least, a manager would come by to apologize. Crickets! Perhaps it was just an off night, but we won't be back any time soon.

Birthday at Canoe

By Dave B |

Great looking place, great food, great service. The only downside, and it's just my personal taste, but it was too dark and noisy.

Take out

By stephen l |

Best take out in Atlanta, both food and curb service excellent!! The Tues nite fried chicken is the best we’ve ever had anywhere!

The worse food ever

By Kida |

In all my life I haven't been to another restaurant where I would have preferred fast food. The menu didn't offer many options and frankly nothing looked appealing just looking around as we waited. The ambiance was nice! Maybe a great place to grab a drink ONLY!

Amazing view, good food, a must for special occasions...

By megpusateri |

In ATL, it’s hard to find destinations for a quiet, ambient dinner to celebrate intimately. Canoe has that. It is such a beautiful place for a celebratory meal. Highly recommend if you have never been there. The food is excellent and the waitstaff is well trained. Can you get better food in ATL for less price? Absolutely. But there are some interesting dishes on the menu that you can’t find elsewhere and the atmosphere is incredible. SOME TIPS: 1. Definitely come early to enjoy a drink by the river. 2. Leave the high heels though... the grounds are hard to walk in them and the inside tiling can make it interesting. I’d opt for more comfortable dress. 3. Listen to the waitstaff. They are well versed in the food and will not steer you wrong. If it is your first time, they will suggest the staples —smoked salmon app and rabbit for entree. It’s wonderful. They will split plates automatically so ask them if you want them together. 4. Let them know its a special event. They cater to this — the menu will come with a special note for you and they will take care to make sure it is wonderful. 5. Don’t miss the popcorn ice cream dessert. The serving sizes are intelligent. You won’t leave and need to be rolled out. And even better, stroll outside to help digest the experience and the food. I think this is a MUST for bringing out of town guests for that special occasion.

Great food, great ambiance and great service

Anniversary Dinner

By Sean |

I cannot day enough about Canoe. Food is perfect and innovative. Staff is professional and go the extra mile to make your visit memorable.

Good ideas, to perfect

By Cosimo M |

Nice restaurant by the river. It offers interesting dishes (kangaroo, duck, halibut) but not impeccably executed. The kangaroo was very salty, the plantain was floury and hard, the bread too spicy. Good desserts. Great salmon and crab cake. Excellent service. Prices in the high average of the city.

Excellent food and service

By Jean H |

We had a bit of a hiccup at the beginning because it was a very special occasion and our son had book a very specific table and they said they didn't have it and wanted to put us in a very brightly lit tent. He persisted and we ended up where he planned, on the porch. Just lovely. Our waiter, Matt, was outstanding. I had a great cocktail and the smoked salmon and the braised rabbit. Everything was excellent. My son and husband have celiac disease and had no problem getting a gluten-free meal. Would definitely return.

Always Excellent!

By ah64fish |

I finally got a chance to take some work colleagues from Boston to Canoe, and it delivered once again. We got the perfect day to sit outside for pre-dinner drinks at the bar on the Chattahoochee. When it came to dinner, I recommended the rabbit, and none of the Boston folks had ever eaten rabbit. Needless to say, they’re fans now. I was also able to convince them to introduce their taste buds to kangaroo....amazing! I don’t describe Canoe as a “foodie” place, but they do have a few throngs on the menu for the more adventurous eater. Be sure to have the popcorn ice cream for dessert! It remains in my top 3 of ATL restaurants!

Fresh, creative food with top notch service!

By Starchgirl |

After a tough day from traveling, we were rewarded with being able to relax and enjoy a wonderful evening at Canoe. Our server, Raymond, was outstanding, warm and friendly as well as knowledgeable and efficient. The food is fresh, creative, and perfectly seasoned. Everything was top notch, but the special heirloom tomato salad stole the show. Served with pork belly, smoked corn, peanut dressing & a garlic aioli, it was an explosion of flavors.

Been a while

By Ed R |

We haven't been here in a few years. We were in the area and were looking for a nice place to eat. Canoe came up. Oh yea. Great food and ambiance, hell yea. We made a reservation (recommended) and showed up right on time. Valet parking is super awesome. Drive right up and walk in. Nice. We were immediately taken to our table. Steve was our waiter. He was super helpful. He gave us some really great suggestions and told us the specials of the day. They all sounded fantastic. We ordered our drinks and appetizers. We ordered the crab cakes and calamari. What a start. The appetizers were as expected, excellent. We next ordered our entree. We got two of the specials and a steak filet. Mussels and an Alaskan fish plate special were both very good. The steak was tender and, as ordered, med/rare. Wow. I'm so glad we remembered this place. We finished with some desserts. I had the popcorn flavored one and also ordered the Lava Cake. Again, both were good. The entire meal, from beginning to end, was fantastic. Steve helped us make some real good choices. We really enjoyed his excitement. His recommendations were spot on. The ambiance is awesome. On the river. Inside or out, the view is nice and really adds to the whole experience of this place. It's a very romantic, great atmosphere, and nice place for a great meal. The food was good before and this time was as great as I remembered. It definitely did not disappoint us. You will love it. I guarantee it. 💯

Birthday dinner ruined

By chris s |

Took my wife here last night to celebrate her birthday. We are not wealthy, so fine dining is a special occasion reserved for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Booked our table online and had a 8:45 reservation. We were running 5-10 minutes late, so out of courtesy we called the restaurant to let them know that we were on our way. The hostess politely informed us that the kitchen closes promptly at 9:00. By the time we valet, greet the hostess, and are seated at our table, our server hands us two menus and tells us we have three minutes to get our order in (It's 8:57, so 9:00 is no joke!) Luckily I had looked at the menu earlier in the day and my wife enjoys a good filet. We both love charcuterie so away we go. I take full responsibility for our being a little late, but the restaurant was packed and even if we had arrived on time at 8:45 and presumably seated and greeted by 8:50, this is fine dining (or claims to be). I would expect to order a cocktail and take my time perusing the menu and the wine list while enjoying our drink and I still would not want to know that I had ten minutes to get my order in or "no soup for you." The charcuterie arrives and looks great except for the two tiny pieces of cheese (wish I would have taken a picture). While not quite finished with the charcuterie, the server comes over to move it out of the way because the entree is coming now! I worked in fine dining for years at a much finer place than Canoe and we would never have "fired" the entree until the appetizer had been cleared from the table. The entrees were good, not great, and the peanut butter cheesecake was delicious (dessert should never be the highlight of the evening). We were out the door shortly after 10:00, completely disappointed in our experience. With so many fine dining choices in Atlanta, one bad experience is enough for me. We will not go back to Canoe again. If anyone from the restaurant bothers to read their reviews, they could do themselves a favor and simply not take reservations after 8:30 if their main objective of the night is to get out as quickly as possible. When I worked in fine dining, dinner was expected to be a two hour experience, but maybe at Canoe, the chef has to get home to massage his massive ego.

Great experience all around

By Patricia |

Recently, I went to Canoe with my parents for a lunch. The food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere and view were great and our waitress Mariah was amazing, providing us with amazing recommendations.

Disaster

By KYSteve058 |

I know this place is highly rated, but we had a terrible experience there. We made reservations for brunch for a large group (20+). We were seated @ 10:30, & given a limited menu of either bacon & eggs or chicken. (OK, about 90% of us chose the breakfast.) The food wasn't brought to the table until around 12:00. This would have been understandable if it had been some kind of special meal, but honestly, it was no different than what you might get at Dairy Queen. Scrambled eggs, a few strips of bacon, diced potatoes & a piece of french toast. To add insult to injury everybody's meal was COLD! I have never given anybody less than 3 stars, but this was the worst dining experience of my life. On a positive note, the wait staff was great.

Savory food, excellent service.

By pablucho35 |

Savory food, excellent service. All the menu items were a unique blend of flavors. Unusual game like rabbit and kangaroo. Beautiful setting. Pricey but excellent for a special occasion or business outing.

Fabulous food even better service

have not been back to this wonderful restaurant for a while and will not wait so long the next time. We had the specials which were indeed most special and delicious. From the manager to our server the attention to detail was first rate. Not miss restaurant

Wonderful country meal by the river, great bar and staff. Good meeting space and beautiful scenic patio and outdoor space.

Happy 49th!

By HappyWanderers1245 |

We were looking for somewhere special to celebrate our 49th. Looked all around the Atlanta restaurant scene and settled on Canoe. Called ahead for reservations and talked about how I would like a special table for the special occasion. Arrived on time to be seated next to the serving station at a table for 4. Very noisy such that we had to repeat everything we said to each other. We asked our server, Katie E., if we could switch to another table. She said yes, but she would have to find one. She was very nice and accommodating. We talked a bit and decided to endure the noise and clanking of dishes. Katie actually saved the evening for us as she was so attentive and nice. She had only been a server for two months as she just graduated from college and was looking for a position in the hospitality industry. Canoe should fast track her into management as she "gets" customer service!

Consistent Delivery of A+ Quality

By Constantcomment62 |

We recently visited Canoe to celebrate our friend's engagement. The service was wonderful - Mariah took excellent care of us :) The food was delicious, and I was pleased to see a variety of reasonably priced options on the menu. This is the 3rd time I have been to Canoe over the last 15 years, and the quality of the food and atmosphere has never failed to deliver. And to top it off, the riverside setting is serene. I would highly recommend a trip to Canoe, whether you are passing through the area or a long time Atlantan. It is a gem!

Great view

By Dany T |

Beautiful view, great food, service is always amazing. Cocktails and drinks are great. Love the servers. Great place for any occasion

Great ambiance - Medicore Food

By afoodyetreasonable |

The outdoor patio overlooking the river was beautiful with all the blooming flowers and lovely landscaping. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food, though was mediocre at best. The shrimp spring roll appetizer was OK yet the spring roll was over fried and it fell apart. There was a shrimp or two in it cut up into smaller pieces so you had to look for it. The carrot-coconut soup sounded yummy; however, it was tasteless and very uninteresting. The crab cake arrived cold. it was on a large bed of overdressed greens so you do not need to order a salad if you order this entree. The cavatelli and beef bolognese had a terrific sauce yet the pasta was a tad too al dente for our taste (we are Italian so we know how to cook pasta). Skip the carrot cake dessert - just not good. The highlight of the meal was the flatbread believe it or not! It seems like they are resting on their laurels. I say this because it was not as if only one of the dishes was not spot on - none of them were! Very disappointing. With a spectacular setting like that we would return often if the food quality was better.

Good Experience

By bhlraven1916 |

Really great time. Daughter and grandson flew in from Texas with basically the clothes on their backs. The Staff treated us great given their dress code. First time eating kangaroo. All fish dishes were cooked to perfection, but cold. Great prices and service. No military discount

Good, not Great !

By Val M |

Have always loved this place. The other night we took out of state family here, and the meals were mediocre. I had the $23 scallop app. It had 3 scallops. One of us ordered the kangaroo, and wasn't crazy about it. Veggie pasta was nothing special, it needed something to liven it up and really didn't taste good. The service was ok, but one of the servers took a plate away before it was finished. I doubt that we will go back anytime soon.

Very good but not GREAT

By GaryC |

Have celebrated special occasions here over the years and expected perfection. Service (by Patricia) was excellent but found the atmosphere, this Friday night, to be a bit hectic and far too loud. The place was packed as expected. Spouse and I both ordered fish dishes but I was not impressed with the cod. Was good but not great. Cranberry bread was excellent! We found the menu did not offer enough choices. Would have preferred more options.

Enjoyable

By Sarah E |

I am in town on business and went to Canoe for dinner- sat at the bar. The bartenders were super nice and really accommodating. Outside- they have another bar (it was too hot yesterday for me) and it’s on the river. Very nice!! Also, they are valet only. It was very fast though to get my car. Beet and goat cheese salad was amazing!

Excellent

By suz |

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at this fine restaurant and found the service high class, the menu diverse and extensive and all in a classy, upscale atmosphere. Terrific experience.

Very disappointed food quality and taste.

By carl j |

Took my wife and son there for his birthday and was very not impressed with the food overall quality and taste. We all had different items and no one liked their food. Safe to say we won't be going back.

Lovely Evening

This is a lovely restaurant in a gorgeous location. Recommend outdoor seating or request a window table at sunset. The service and food were impeccable. Highly recommend the rabbit!

Always awesome

By vincent g |

This is my favorite Atlanta restaurant. Always very predictable and always very, very good. The rabbit is to die for. Only place where I eat it, a delicacy.

Excellent dinner in a relaxing setting

By mlsrga |

On a recent visit to Atlanta, we decided to try Canoe for dinner. We went mid week and were fortunate to get a reservation a few days before. We tried the crab cake appetizer, rabbit and duck entree. All were excellent. The setting is very relaxing on the river with a bar and seating along the bank. We were a little early and enjoyed a glass of wine at the riverside bar before being seated at our table. You can order and dine at the bar without a reservation but seating is limited.

Unique menu

By vdkiser |

I think the food is kinda weird but the the dining experience is otherwise lovely. Google the menu be fore you go. Also, if you visit in the warmer months, you'll love the dining alongside the riverbank. Lovely.

Average

By Bobby P |

The place is beautiful we come there from out town. Have not been in couple of years. Ordered the braised rabbit had it numerous times over the last 6-7 years definitely has changed. It was ( the best pot roast your grandmother made) Not the same it was OK but not great. Wife had the halibut could hardly eat it. There was no flavor in the broth or muscles or clams that were with it. The Chef is that is overseeing the kitchen needs to really pay attention to depth and the richness of the broth and sauces that accompany the plate. Hers tasted like tap water as the broth I even added a lot of salt and pepper to it no help. But we started off with a appetizer of the smoke salmon and goat cheese it was wonderful

Memorable anniversary

By Phoenyx-Floyd |

We had been trying to dine at Canoe for the past 2 years. Our spontaneous nature didn't really work with their often long wait-lists for reservations. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to score a table on the evening of our wedding anniversary and we weren't disappointed. The wine list seemed endless with some surprisingly affordable options. The food was made and served with care and pride (warmly recommended the salmon appetizers smoked in-house). Last but not least, the riverside scenery will take your breath away ! This spot is definitely worth a booking one or two months in advance!

An experience not to miss

By Bob |

This was our first time at Canoe Restaurant but will definitely not be our last. Kersey was our server. A very knowledgeable server and quite the entertainer. Great views of the Chattahoochee River. Get a 4 toptable by the windows. Great food too! The chef is from Australia so we had Kangaroo and Lamb and were both very delicious.

Great Anniversary Spot!

By Lauren |

5 star service and the food was outstanding! They made us feel very special on our Anniversary by personalizing our menus and dessert plates. The chef was from Australia and offered kangaroo as a specialty dish on the menu when we visited. It was exceptional! We had a wonderful experience and will definitely return for any special occasions that come along in our lives.

Didn't Meet Expectations

By CityGirlATL |

8 of us went to dinner for my partners birthday. Nice ambience. A little loud as most restaurants seem to be. Our service was fairly good. Our waiter was very professional with a bit of humor. Dinner was slow to come out. As we talked at dinner, no one said "wow this is really good". One person said their pork chop was dry. My rabbit was okay, but nothing special. For the prices and reputation, I was definitely underwhelmed. I won't go back.

Outstanding

By GaryC |

Visited here for 52nd Anniversary dinner per suggestion of my spouse. Expected good to very good but got "near perfect." Served by very personable and informative "Maya." Special this evening was a salad topped with an excellent trout filet. A smoked salmon appetizer preceded the entree which was also outstanding. Meal was topped off with a tasty chocolate/raspberry mousse. Lots of extras to impress. Will return.

Upscale restaurant with unique and innovative menu served with top class service

By NilfromATL |

I heard about this restaurant from friends and colleagues so finally got the opportunity to go there for a family dinner. It was a great experience. My server welcomed me by name. Something generally experienced in very high end hotels like Ritz or Four Seasons. Definitely a great effort. The service that followed was perfect and timely without being intrusive. The food was thoughtful and delicious. Innovative combinations and ingredients. Even the desserts were uncommon and perfect. It isn’t a cheap place but from a quality standpoint not very expensive either. We were happy diners. Definitely going back.

Not a good vegetarian option as advertised in Tripadvisor

By Mayson C |

We had checked the rating for Vegetarian business associates and the restaurant was rated near the top of Atlanta for vegetarians. there were a couple of nice vegetarian options for appetizers but not one main course on the menu. so for the vegetarian option we were very disappointed. we live in Atlanta and were a little embarrassed with the menu. Our friends loved the view of the river and the ambience... although Canoe has gotten much too loud. we have pretty much rated Canoe excellent in the past... but for lack of veggie options and the noise I would only give average.

Atmosphere is amazing

By Tami R |

We went to Canoe for my daughter's birthday luncheon. Made reservations for a Friday afternoon, they were not necessary with one exception, it was her birthday and they did a very nice birthday dessert for her. Otherwise, you won't need a reservation during a weekday. Our server was spectacular. The problem, she did such an amazing job describing the food compared to what we got, that it was a let down. Appetizers: Spring roll, I did not taste one but the consensus was there was much needed spice missing. The salmon was off the chain delicious. So fresh. Lunch: we had tacos (didn't live up to the type and they are more like a taquito), Hamburger, was "good," Cod sandwich was delicious but nothing you couldn't get elsewhere and the Turkey Sandwich, an avalanche of turkey with a delicious cranberry mustard. All and all I might go back for their brunch, lunch didn't wow us. The service was excellent.

Canoe Restaurant

By Laura A |

This is the best restaurant in Atlanta—great, innovative menu, wonderful ambience, and great service. I highly recommend this restaurant if you live in the area it is a great place to to soak up the ambience of the Chattahoochee River. The setting is spectacular, the food superb, and the service is wonderful. Veronica is an innovative server and knows how to make a table feel welcome and also how to appreciate the creative menu. You will never. E disappointed with Canoe. Enjoy and ask for Veronica!

Great birthday dinner with my husband

By GASeaNative |

There is no better view or restaurant with this much ambiance OTP. I have been coming here since the 1990’s and it never disappoints. Make sure to get a table with a view of the river, and ask your server what they recommend. They know what is really good that night and what is really fresh. They want a good tip so they aren’t goi g to steer you wrong!

What a great dinner! I found it online and it lived up to it's reputation

By mnguru1 |

I wanted to try something different. I went online looking for places to eat in Atlanta. This restaurant is definitely upscale. The menu is unique and the service was super friendly and attentive. I actually had the beet salad and Kangaroo appetizers with a glass of wine for my dinner. I wasn't hungry enough for one of the amazing entre's. It is about 30 minutes outside of Atlanta on the Chattahoochie River. Beautiful setting. Reservations were impossible on short notice during regular dinner hours. I had to catch a flight so I needed to eat around 6pm. Solution? Go to the bar. They serve the same menu and I was in and out in an hour. Very glad I stopped here.

Very bad.

By Mila K |

Maybe it was just a bad night (Sunday). The service and ambience were good. Food was horrible (from bad to cold. Chef needs to rethink his cooking ideas). We never will return.

Great Dinner, Felt Safe

By StevenHScher |

We celebrated Father's Day on Monday because we were out of town on Father's Day. We sat outside on the covered patio, which has a beautiful view overlooking the water. The staff were wearing masks. Our server Kristen was excellent. I ordered the trout. It was served with crab ravioli & a green vegetable ($29). It was delicious especially the ravioli. My wife & I shared the Arugula salad ($14) also delicious. My wife had the salmon ($28), which she loved. We all shared a dessert, excellent. This was a great eating experience.

Excellent Dining Experience

By Dan |

My wife & I along with my daughter’s family which includes two kids(age 8 & 1 1/2) had brunch here on Sunday morning. We had reservations for 10:30am & upon our arrival we were immediately seated. Service was impeccable. Food was delivered hot & delicious. Our group enjoyed salmon, springer mountain chicken, burgers, & the large assorted basket of soft scones were to die for. Doesn’t hurt that the property is located on the banks of the Chattahoochee & we had a great view of the River which definitely enhanced our dining experience. The entire property has beautiful landscaping. Our 1 1/2 year old grandson especially enjoyed splashing the water in the fountain. Add valet parking & you have a winning combination. Outstanding experience from start to finish. Highly recommend.

One of the Best Restaurants in Atlanta

By Warren K |

Terrific dinner and drinks with friends. Dela and Betsy were our five star servers. They took great care of us. They were definitely a cut above! I had the trout special. My three guests had the cod. Everything was wonderful from start to finish. One of the best restaurants in Atlanta.

Great food, service and garden/river views

Always good but seems to be losing their appeal

Canoe is always good but seems to have list some of its appeal. Great location - great service - very good/great food. But getting a reservation seems to easy - never seems to be a problem

Birthday Brunch

By MNE |

Omg, the food... the service. We loved it. I've never had a soft scone. They were mouth watering!!! The beef and duck burger was amazing too. We didn't have room for dessert. Our was probably my second favorite server of all time. She did an amazing job. You won't be disappointed here

Outstanding food and service

We went to Canoe on our recent trip to Atlanta. The food was delicious and well presented. The service was outstanding. The atmosphere was very inviting. We will certainly return there when we get back to the area.

Amazing view, food & drinks

Top notch service, location & delicious food. Excellent view of the river and nice outdoor seating area. Neighborhood gem, perfect for date night.

Perfect lunch with beautiful views

By Kiana L |

My friend and I had an amazing lunch. Our table was by the windows with beautiful views of the river. Our waitress was attentive and gave a great wine recommendation. The food came out quickly. The cod was delicious, especially the caper butter! We also enjoyed dessert. Definitely recommend exploring outside a bit after your meal!

Great experience and best ever dessert

By WTCA |

My husband usually has issues with sitting outside, allergies, etc, but on this visit, our return after maybe 10 years, it was the perfect day for the patio. We had the most wonderful time with the river rapidly flowing as backdrop to bird-watching and saw goldfinches, a woodpecker, bluebirds, cardinals and doves. Quite the show. Service was really very accommodating. No complaints there at all. Our spring roll appetizer was tasty right down to the lightly dressed cabbage slaw side greens. Yuzu sauce just lovely. Shared the Cobb salad and felt it was a good mix of all the elements. Our only suggestion to the kitchen was to make sure and present the nicely browned side of the chicken up (ours was delivered with the pale slightly unappetizing side facing up.) And then the dessert, oh my! The Crackerjack Popcorn sundae was possibly the best dessert we’ve ever had. Clumps of crackerjack Carmel corn are scattered on the plate and in the bottom of a tall sundae glass. On top of that is a layer of vanilla ice cream and a layer of Carmel sauce. As these melt down they soak the crackerjack and it all melds for a marvelous eating experience.

Very good restaurant

We enjoyed it a lot. Good was good and service was very attentive. Definetly a good restaurant for birthdays and anniversaries...

Unusually poor experience

By BigPapiArturo |

Been here many times over the years but today was a poor effort. Despite having a confirmed 1pm appt, it took almost 30 min to seat a party of four. I was there with my parents (dad 83, mom in a surgical boot) before heading to the ATL Opera's 3pm matinee, so standing around was not ideal. Almost 10 more min before our server greeted us. He wanted to drop water and go but since we were now on a time crunch, I asked him to take our drink order first. You could see his smile disappear when we asked for coffee and soft drinks instead of wine/cocktails. After that, he kind of wrote us off as far as service. From the kitchen, only the she-crab soup was great. The duck burger was good, truffle fries were weak. Smoked salmon was a little slimy. Cesar salad was a big portion but with little dressing. Monk fish special was under cooked. Crispy shrimp salad was good. I will say that the valet was very attentive and polite. We made it to the show just in time. And we still over-tipped ($40 on $127) so I would encourage this server to still show guests a good time even if there isn't too much time to upsell.

A must try in Atlanta

Interesting menu with unique flavors. Server suggested the Kangarro appetizer and Duck Breast. Great suggestions and great choices! Great Manhattan with smokey flavor

Great Sunday brunch

Outstanding experience. Delicious brunch in a beautiful setting. Attentive and caring service. Always a pleasure to dine at Canoe when in Atlanta!

Wow!

By Katie P |

My fiancé and I came here to celebrate our anniversary and when we got there, we did not have to wait on our reservations. They addressed us by name (from the reservation) both the host and our waiter. Each waiter/waitress told us happy anniversary, too. They really personalize the dining experience here. The appetizer and brunch was quick and so delicious. Highly recommend for a quality experience, amazing service and delicious food!

Beautiful gardens and delicious food

By istanbulhills |

We recently dined at Canoe as we were visiting family in Atlanta on our anniversary. The gardens are lovely and after trying a few other up market restaurants in Atlanta which were pretty much indoor venues, this was a welcome change. Be sure to ask to sit outside or near the window as the view and bird watching is part of the experience. The food was good and all cooked to perfection. The rabbit and trout scored particularly high marks from us. Service was good, though our waiter was a little loud and his memorized descriptions of the food were slightly hard to follow. Perhaps a lower key, more subtle approach would be a better pairing in a restaurant of this caliber. He also was slightly cavalier about his knowledge of French wines. Still this did not distract from the evening. Overall, a positive and enjoyable dining experience and I would revisit.

Would return over and over

Great food with even better atmosphere- best appreciates in spring and fall with amazing outdoor views.

Great service average food

By maureeen s |

Went for my mothers 89 Birthday. They put us in a corner no river view. I ordered 1/2 dozen oysters 2 of which were barely there! The cucumber sauce that came with it was disgusting. The scallops which were $44 was 3 scallops on a bed of mush . My nephew had the steak most expensive thing on the menu . They brought it to him in a bowl. It looked like a salad as the steak and potatoes were buried under the salad with no dressing. It was just strange for sure. They did nothing special for her birthday. Most restaurants will bring out a complimentary desert with a candle . No they wanted $11 per dessert. I felt the waiter was trying to upsell everything! Very disappointing! Won’t be back

Date Night

By mirelzab |

beautiful place in and out, delicious food and very fancy, perfect for a date night. also book in advance and if you go by 6pm you will see the beauty of the river too before get to dark.

Lovely restaurant!

We enjoyed a memorable meal at this lovely restaurant last Sunday. The smoked salmon appetizer was amazing, and our entrees were delicious (tenderloin, cod). Our server, Gerson, was attentive and charming. Highly recommend Canoe for special occasions.

Great ... but expensive

By Dave W |

Canoe is really good. First the good stuff, the restaurant is immaculate and has incredible views of the river. Service is first class. Food presentation is very nice. We had a group of half dozen friends and everyone enjoyed their meal. My choice was steak and eggs and sticky bun off the brunch menu. Great place to bring a date. Plenty of free and valet parking. Nice gardens outside and we enjoyed short stroll along the river. The not so good. Several of us got the steak and eggs. We liked it, the steak was shaved; but we expected a nice piece of whole steak. Also one guy got the french toast and it came out cold and he had to send it back. No complementary selection of bread during Sunday brunch, but can be ordered off the menu. Canoe is expensive and other tables were celebrating special days like birthdays. All in all worth a stop if you are in the area.

Not up to standard

By Diamond H |

I went to Canoe for my birthday and expected a beautiful scenery and great food. The scenery was beautiful but the food was a miss. Half of our table had cold food and after we sent the food back the plates came back hot while the food was still cold. We were told there practice was to sit the plates in the boiler and take it back out after 5 mins so we did not have to wait. Well, we rather wait for hot food than receive cold food. Maybe because it was late we had so many problems but they have definitely lost a few customers tonight.

Excellent Service!

By Jillian B |

After reading the reviews, I knew I had to give this restaurant a try. I’m so glad I did! I made reservations online and I left a message letting them know that it was my boyfriend’s birthday. They greeted him saying happy birthday at the host stand and our server Chris greeted him by name and said happy birthday with such enthusiasm. They went above and beyond to pay attention to detail and made us feel special. Chris was an AMAZING server and did an excellent job answering all of our questions- which was a lot lol. I am such a picky eater and the salmon, mash potatoes, and asparagus was perfect for me. My boyfriend had the lamb sirloin and it was delicious! I would 100% recommend Canoe! Thank you Canoe for making our night special.

Beautiful neighborhood, up-scale inside and out. Serious waiters and food

By Pepper |

Canoe has a justly fine reputation. It starts with being among beautiful homes and roads- so the anticipation of something special can start early. You pretty much have to park by valet, which also sets the stage. Entering into a small ante-chamber you are led into a quite large restaurant- some regular tables, other banquettes from another era. All in a spacious field that continues through a couple levels- ours in windows facing the view, below us outdoor seating and farther on, an outdoor bar and the capacity for events that, like the restaurant, overlook the river. We were there at night so some of the staging was irrelevant for us- but it provoked the thought in me that coming when there was light out was a better idea. The dinner itself was very good- we were a large party of eight and it was handled well. A nice unflappable waiter made a few mistakes( he completely forgot my husband's drink, even when reminded) but recouped after that. Our appetizers were generally fine- a really nice mussels dish with pasta, a very fresh and composed salad and some good squash soup. I had the oysters- I was not impressed with them --but I come from the west coast. What was I doing ordering oysters in Atlanta- my bad.. We ;had the chicken- which was perfect- one dish was enough for two, it was moist and had a nice diced vegetable bed below it. Everyone enjoyed their main dish which ranged from a lamb loin that my friend raved about to halibut which also got great reviews. The deserts were extremely well received- our chocolate dome was just the right amount of contrast from the hard dark chocolate shell to the creamy lighter insides, and the pumpkin bread putting was delicious. The popcorn ice cream was split in two and got thumbs up although the actual popcorn was seen as more of a decoration than a yummy part of the dessert. All this at substantial but not at extravagant or pretentious prices. We had a great time there- that's what superior service, great food and a fine setting does for us humans- it brings out all our best ability to enjoy life- we closed the place down and left in high spirits.

Family Nite

This place exceeded my expectations with food and atmosphere. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous and the food was delicious. The farm to table aspect of menu that changes seasons provide fresh and unique menu items. The service was top notch from the valet service to the waiter. I can't wait to go back again.

Anniversary dinner

By RACEGRL |

Came here for our 25th wedding anniversary. The server was very attentive even though they were packed with prom goers. The filet is great, the crab cake was very good and the desserts are amazing, my husband had the banana cream pie which was light and delicious. The chocolate cremeux was also very good, the pretzel added a nice salted crunch.I also enjoyed the way they bring the simple syrup with the unsweetened tea allowing you to add as much sweetness as you'd like. The only down was not having time to stroll outside. The view is lovely. We would absolutely make a return visit.

Excellent desserts

By Cheryl A |

I had the jumbo lump crab cake. It was delicious! I also tasted the arugula salad also great. I saw rabbit on the menu and was very excited. I was very disappointed with the taste. The meat was not seasoned. It was like the rabbit was slow braised but none of the seasoning in the braising got inside the meat. It was if the barbecue sauce covering the top to give it some taste did not work. Also the ravioli which comes with the meal was served cold. The manager and servers did their best to rectify the situation but the second serving of ravioli was also cold. The other guests at my table enjoyed the rabbit. I like well seasoned food and expected better. They brought the table a round of desserts. Oh what a treat! The popcorn ice cream Sunday was my favorite. The blueberry sorbet biscuit was also delightful! The server was good; however she appeared quite rushed. She was polite though and good natured.

Excellent Food, but Service a Little Slow

By Kurt H |

Canoe's food was excellent. Salad good but weakest part of the meal. The Steak was wonderful. Dessert was clearly unique and excellent. Decor is interesting. The main knock was, tho we're patient, it didn't matter as the service was a little slow and we had to repeatedly ask for things. Would surely return for the food.

Great Experience

By ladyfia |

We went for breakfast, I had the smoked salmon Benedict my husband had their special which was some kind of seasoned pork with over medium eggs. The food was awesome and the staff were very attentive to anything we ask for. I would definitely give this restaurant a 100

Outstanding in Every Way

By Fred Tolbert |

Went with a group of three couples for a holiday date night. Canoe did not disappoint. The service was outstanding. Our server was great - though he did say that every menu item was his favorite. Appetizers were very good - even tried the kangaroo loin. My chicken entree with risotto was excellent. Wife had the rabbit. She liked that. Everything was lived up to its reputation as one of Atlanta's great restaurants.

What a great location

By Keega16 |

I was delighted to find this! We sat on the back patio overlooking the lake, outside gathering areas and pavilion bar. I would go back just to hang out, it was that lovely. The seasonal menu is very interesting with lots of things that you do not see everyday. I enjoyed a salad of baby greens and a duck and beef burger with truffle fries.

Welcoming

Got here like 10 minutes before closing time and they welcomed and accommodated us. Service was great and food was very delicious.

Amazing experience with even better views

By Samia D |

It was an amazing lunch. Food was delicious. Waiters were so friendly. Everything came out quick. And views were stunning. Definitely recommend to come here.

Not worth the price

By RegularGal |

After hearing such great things about the restaurant and location (near the river), I was not impressed with the food. We sat outside and the service was lacking in attention. The meals were very expensive compared to the quality. I will not be returning as there are so many better restaurants with equally nice views of greenery (the distant view of the river is not worth the hightened prices).
