NYC in Sandy Springs

This place is a typical Chinese restaurant in NY. The food is served family style. The large pink dining room is always busy with wait staff and patrons.

Pretty good Chinese in Sandy Springs

By John Fed |

Easily the best our family has found in the immediate area, Canton Cooks has a limited selection of traditional Chinese dishes and the usual long list of American ones. It is no Tasty China or Sichuan House but a solid pick for either dine-in or take-out. We like the green beens with ground meat off the Chinese menu and the soups are all pretty good. Seafood seems to be a specialy also. Whether you live in the area or are staying over by Perimeter, Canton Cooks will satisfy your hankerin' for Chinese (unless it's Wednesday :)

I love pork chop here. Can not compared with somewhere else. No doubt why this place always pack till the close time...

Late night good Chinese food

By Sky G |

Had a late night craving when hubby got off work. Did a little research and came across Canton Cooks. Located in the Whole Foods shopping center at the very back. The decor is pretty generic. The service was fast. We ordered the braised duck and the spicy pan fried shrimp. The duck see was flavorful, but the shrimp were not spicy at all. The shrimp were coated and fried on a bed of lettuce and slice jalapeno. It was very dry for an entree and edible but not flavorful. Webshare the little sauce we had with the braised duck. We may or may not eeturn.

Our neighborhood chinese

By Fred D |

We visit almost once a week, the owners are very friendly. The food is very good, tasty and spiced right. Service is fast and efficient. Our favorite is Chicken Lettuce Wraps, General Tso's Chicken and Chicken wings.

Can't go wrong here

By Russ A |

One of our two favorite Chinese restaurants in Sandy Springs. They have a new location a little further north on Roswell (at the NW corner with Abernathy). The newer location has much better décor but for some reason we always end up at the original. Like most decent Chinese restaurants CC has a very broad menu (and they will make pretty much anything else you want). Unlike most, we have not tried anything that did not rate "very good". Family favorite is the sesame chicken.

My favorite Chinese restaurant. I love fried sea bass here.

Always Hits the Spot

By soitgoes14 |

It’s not flashy or pricey but it is good. I've ate here and gotten take out here a few times. We stopped in for dinner last night and as usual it hit the spot. I typically get the “Americanized” Chinese favorites here. Sweet and Sour Chicken, Moo Shu Pork, or like last night General Tso’s Chicken. We also got an order of pot stickers to start. The pot stickers are nice and you get two sauces to dip them in. All orders come with rice and you can easily split the dinner order as we did. If I have a taste for Chinese food I never hesitate to come here.

Never Disappoints!

By Barb3333 |

This place is always busy because the food is always good! They do a lot of take-out business, too. Service is prompt and the hot tea is good, too. Love that they still give orange slices with the check and fortune cookies.

Great Korean Food In Strip Mall

By Shana J |

I went here on a business lunch and we ordered family style. The green beans were to die for. Food was hot and service was fast. It's by the Whole Foods in that shopping center off Roswell Road and easy to miss so be careful you don't drive by. Fabulous shrimp, beef, you name it - it's great.

Consistent

By stringer60898 |

Consistent Cantonese menu, Canton Cooks has a very reliable Cantonese menu. The service is amazing, the food is above average.

Not as Good as Canton Cooks 2

By Jeff S |

While I was told they are brother-sister to the one on Abernathy, there is a huge difference in the food. They may have the same recipes, but the execution is a far cry from up the street. At time the food is borderline un-tasty and others times it is OK. Would rather wait for a non-Monday when Canton Cooks 2 is open.

Pretty good Chinese in Sandy Springs

By Steve F |

I had the spicy garlic shrimp. It was pretty good. It would have been a little better with a little less sugar. My girlfriend had the egg foo young and the portion was so huge she can only eat half. I definitely would return to this place.

good chinese food

By kim m |

Had to try this for comparison with Canton Cooks 2 and I can't seem to decide which one I like better. One thing I know for sure, their chicken wings is the bomb! Pan fried squid was cooked and seasoned to perfection too. They toast the crispy noodles too which I personally prefer but I feel like the sauce could've used more flavor. Next time I'll order my other staples from 2 to make a better comparison!

Canton cook review, Roswell Road

By Pioneer537970 |

My wife and I almost never complain about food, except now. The beef curry dish we ordered tasted “rubbery”, like squid — as if boiled. The sauce was smothered in cornstarch, and the veggies; undercooked. To top it all off, wait staff never bothered to ask how the meal was. The “eat it and weep” experience we had at Canton Cook very sadly did not merit a Trip Advisor 4 stars. Consumer beware!

Pretty good but overpriced

By k9education |

We got the Wor Sue Duck, Sweet and Sour Pork and Pork Fried Rice. The food was good and on par with other good takeout Chinese restaurants. However, the bill was $34 for food that would have cost us $20 at our favorite Chinese takeout place back home and was certainly no better.

Not a place for authentic Chinese food

By Panda C |

We were there for a lunch date and expected to be served and eat some good Chinese food. The server are not pro, more likely a family owned reataurant, food are not good, not a nice decor and clean environment.

Awesome

By ElCajun123 |

This is a great and yet unassuming restaurant. Born and raised in South America, I am well-acquainted with Cantone-Chinese cooking. This restaurant uses very fresh vegetables, this is the first thing I noticed since most Chinese restaurants where I live use a combination of frozen and canned vegetables that I find repulsive. I asked for the shrimp with snow peas. The shrimp were cooked to perfection and were so large that I had to cut them in two pieces. The servers were friendly and attentive. I live in Birmingham, AL and wish we had a Cantonese restaurant of this quality.

Very consistent and family friendly

By Nik O |

I have been coming here for years. It is very good, easy, and fast. They are closed on Wednesday so naturally thats when you will want to eat here. Very family friendly. They do not do delivery.

Canton Cooks takes Name of former city

By Barbara D |

Whether you like Cantonese , Szechuan, Hunan or just plain American style Chinese food, I think Canton Cooks is the place to get really good cuisine. Although they do specialize in Cantonese style cooking and their name derives from the former city which is now know as Guangzhou(pronounced Kwangchow), you will not be disappointed in the food and service. This is a local restaurant for the Sandy Springs residents, but since discovering the food is good, my Alpharetta friends and I have been frequenting this establishment. There is a bit and lack of quality Chinese restaurants in this area. That said, I'll just put it out there, they all stink. There is not one good Chinese restaurant in the Alpharetta , Roswell or Johns Creek area that I care to dine in. Having been to several, trying the food and leaving never to return, it is a refreshing delight to eat at Canton Cooks where you run into many familiar faces looking for, apparently the same good Chinese quality food as me. Give it a try and you will also find yourself heading there often. My best translation of eat well is pronounced Chit a chau!!!

Suburban Jewish Comfort Food

By Captcliff |

Normally CaptCliff's restaurant reviews are brutally honest and dark, often skewering lesser food establishments for their faddishness, their inconsistency and especially their overall tendency toward providing too little for too much. I'm generally looking for a good value, not a culinary masterpiece of molecular gastronomy balanced on a half grape. To break this pattern of negativity I offer this glowing review. Canton Cooks has been around for, well, forever. It reminds me of a place called Chin's Chop Suey in Glencoe, Illinois where I grew up as a kid, only bigger. Every time I get divorced and or my kids graduate from one school or another, or just on any random Sunday if you ask most people, "where do you want to go for Chinese?", the answer is Canton Cooks. Sure it seems the owners family has broken up into competing factions of self-replicating Chinese restaurants from China Cooks to Canton Cooks2 all located a short distance apart. I cant even remember who runs which place and if they are friend or foe at this point. All I care about is good taste and where I'm probably going to take 8 famished people after the High Holidays and on X-mas day. This is where the line moves the fastest, where the owners remember me no matter who I'm with, and where they make the best Beef Chow Fun and Hong Kong Style Crispy noodles, Seafood (no squid please)...... There is something comforting, ineffable and consistently authentic about the menu, the place and the food which is further reflected in the servers wry smiles and laid back professionalism. I get a kick out of the fact that as I age, they do too, but still keep bringing me the good Cantonese stuff. Whether I dine in or demand a big round table for 10 there is going to be a predictably good meal with excellent leftovers. It's sort of the Jewish-Chinese version of The Help. We have some kind of spiritual and olfactory bond between us, which, on a short ride home with a cardboard box full of takeout is like a Southern gentleman shlepping home a Pecan pie and fresh batch of fried chicken with biscuits and gravy. I realize we are both gonna gain weight from the collective caloric overload involved, but at least we'll fall asleep with a fat-happy smile on our Baby Boomer faces. PS If you dine-in be sure to shave first because you're going to see your accountant, your rabbi, your former neighbors, and the divorce lawyer who beat you to a pulp 15 years ago. Dont worry, everyone will say hi, even the lawyer.

Excellent Chinese Restaurant

By Luxury1Georgia |

As someone who has grown tired of "fast-food" Chinese, I was pleasantly surprised by Canton Cooks. I felt as if I was in an authentic Cantonese restaurant. The food was delicious. I would go back today just to have the double cooked pork again. Great choice in Atlanta.

Delicious dishes for the family

By TeamLee |

The restaurant can get crowded during peak lunch and dinner hours. The dishes to try are the salt & pepper squid, eggplant with garlic sauce, Peking spare ribs, and the chow fun with black bean sauce. Your family will leave very content and satisfied.

Great chinese food.

By SunGoddessMom |

Stumbled upon Canton Cooks after a trip to Six Flags. Very busy at 7:30pm on a Monday night. Short wait for a table. We had the Potstickers steamed and chicken Lo Mein. They sold out of the string beans which looked amazing. I would like to go back and try more dishes without the kids.

Perfect

By Veronica A |

This is my moms favorite restaurant. We always come here yes it's a little pricy but the food is amazing. They have 2 restaurants now canton cooks1 and canton cooks 2 we used to always go to 1 but the service was kinda crappy I have a special needs little sister and the waiters there always seemed like they were talking about her so I hated that, and they seemed a little messy. We only go to number 2 now since they open, the people there are so much nicer and it's so clean. They stay refilling our drinks they are very good at taking care of your needs We usually always get the same things "crab in red sauce " which is AMAZING "shrimp fried rice. "Crab with onions " and more stuff honestly I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order I highly recommend it :)

Finally, a Chinese Restaurant!

By ncmtnpadre |

What a wonderful surprise! Found this little gen hidden in a shopping center. Canton Cooks called to me from across the huge parking lot. I'm so glad I turned in. The hot sour soup was adequate. But the eggplant in spicy garlic sauce was beyond all expectations. I'm so tired of the Chinese buffets. This is the best!

Beware of this place

By Alan N |

Please beware of this place. They would write what you ordered in Chinese and prices you know even know. They add tips in your check without your knowledge in Chinese. They would trick you into putting extra tips whereas they already included in the bill. Look at your bill carefully because they will try to cheat you.

This is a great Cantonese restaurant...

This is a great Cantonese restaurant. Always good and a very good value. Consistent quality for years.

Great Chinese in Atlanta

By Bond Calloway |

Ask for the special menu you will not be disappointed-we had hot and sour soup Thai style and it was excellent-the salt and spicy squid is another winner

Where's the meat?

I order the shrimp, chicken and pork fried rice if you love rice u will love this dish. But I love shrimp, chicken and pork got 5 shrimp little chicken and pork never again. Totally a waste of money!!

First Time in Atlanta Decided To Visit Here

By TwyllaH |

The food was superb. My husband and I had shrimp fried rice and egg rolls, speaking of which (they were some of the best egg rolls I'd ever tasted). Will have to stop by again if ever we're in Atlanta again.

Great chinese food and located in Sandy Springs...

Authentic and priced right

By Mixedbyfabian |

We really enjoyed our dinner here. My wife is a Chinese food fanatic and this definitely check off all her boxes. Not flashy or pricey but delicious and fun. NYC style all the way. Egg rolls shrimp toast and chicken wings were awesome. Worth the drive from downtown.

Great change of pace from dim sum or takeout.

By david554 |

It was nice to have a sit down feast with family. BBQ spare ribs could have used more flavor, egg rolls are immense, 2x "normal", absolutely terrific fried dumplings, best we have had in a long time. We ordered GUYLON chinese brocholi, a huge dish of very fresh veggies, Seafood Pan Fried Noodles was good, but the chicken in lettuce wrap was great! Nice surprise, Roast Pork Fried Rice and their DOUBLE lobster special w/ black bean sauce was very good. Was not crowded Sunday lunch, service was efficient courteous and friendly. Easy in and out parking. Charged us $3 extra for Chrysanthymum Tea.

One of the best Chinese restaurants in the City!

By happy_in_paris_10 |

We'd heard this was the best Chinese, so we had to come here! Food is wonderful, and the patrons are mostly regulars who act like they are at home with family, Servers seem to know most everyone -welcoming atmosphere! Loved it! Wish we had one in Marietta!

GOOD TRADITIONAL CHINESE FOOD

By Ben Z |

This restaurant has a wide range of traditional Chinese food. Food is served promptly, and is very well prepared. Repeated visits have found a very extensive selection of great tasting food. We are making this a regular spot on our dining rotation.

Quick service, great food

By August L |

We had the General Tsao's Chicken, Beef Chow Mein, and Pork Fried Rice. Both entrees were fantastic while the rice was simply what you'd typically expect. The service was very prompt and friendly, and a Spanish speaking employee was available if that was what you preferred when we went. If you are in the mood for Chinese, would definitely check this place out.

Great Takeout, I'll be back to enjoy the restaurant sometime soon

By lbloveslife |

This is a pretty big, nice looking Chinese restaurant. I ordered a bunch of different dishes and each one was fresh and flavorful. Prices were a little above average, however worth the money.

Nice place for lunch

By Maryjayne C |

I visited this restaurant today, wit my son and enjoyed the sizzling rice soup and general tso's chicken.

Great Hot and Sour Soup...

By mushka79 |

Great Hot and Sour Soup! I also love their Mongolian Chicken. If you are looking for a low key place that has great prices...check this place out. It is also open REALLY late.

If you like this type of food there is no place better

By Christopher D |

Hi All, I have visited this establishment many times when over visiting my brother. I can honestly say I always enjoy it the prices are reasonable and the portions are massive, but that does not mean any less quality. You definately need to give this place a try, I am sure you will not be disappointed, and without sounding wrong what is one of the best signs of an oriental restaurant... its when it is full of orientals after all if they go there to eat they are obviously doing something right as they know their own food, and from my point of view they definately are doing something right . Pay it a visit and also with it's late night opening hours a midnight munch is no longer a fret, but something to look forward to. Cheers

Solid Option - Consistent & Good

By GKGator |

Biggest issue is the chaos in the restaurant and the potential wait times, but the food is consistently good

A very good Chinese restaurant.

By JLCAtlanta |

Better than their original location (where I won't return). A terrific menu selection. My companions just loved everything about it. I thought the eggrolls and hot and sour soup mediocre, but the main courses outstanding.

Only had take out, excellent

By ellen k |

No combinations for dinner, a little expensive but well worth it. The portions are generous and the quality is spot on. I had shrimp egg foo young and it was 3 large pieces with sauce and white rice and it was 3 meals!

Would not recommend!!!

By Freemind01 |

Not a good Chinese restaurant. Food is substandard and owner is rude and deceitful. Restaurant is old and dirty. This restaurant has looked the same way for 18 years. Owner will not invest in the upkeep of the restaurant but will always try to cheat you and pretend to be ignorant. Be warned,

Underwhelming Chinese restaurant experience in Sandy Springs!

By Shelley G |

If you order the gourmet meal - beware! The food quality was awful and flavorless. The only redeeming thing was the quantity of food served and the price was okay. Maybe we ordered the wrong things. Who would know. The wait staff was not interested or helpful. Not sure why people give this place a good rating. We will not return.

Really good chinese food.

By Dalia B |

I love this place! Even though we moved about 2 years ago, I keep coming back to get my fix of Beed with Black Mushrooms and Bamboo Shoots. I'll be honest, most of the time I get to-go orders and have had no problems with them at all. I can't really comment on dining in, since I haven't done so. This place has pretty good chinese food, probably the best I've had while in Atlanta.

Simply the BEST!

By PhotogChic |

Been at this restaurant plenty of times both w/friends & family. This place never dissapoint! Quality & price have been consistent all Throughout the years. Still the best Chinese restaurant in Atlanta!

Late night favorite

By Harry v |

Toss aside the menu - and point to what other Chinese diners are having - generally off menu fare, and totally delicious. The time that I have been, there are more Chinese diners than other nationalities, which says to me that this is authentic regional fare. Stays open late.

Always the best Chinese...

Always the best Chinese food!!!!

One of the best Cantonese Fare

By alshin |

I heard about this restaurant for years and finally had a chance to visit last weekend. I went with many Chinese friends and it was their unanimous choice. We ordered many dishes and every single one of them was good. I would say that the food is comparable to other Cantonese restaurants like Canton House on Buford Hwy, Royal China in Chamblee. The service was very cordial and quick, and the prices were amazingly good. This is the best authentic Cantonese restaurant in Roswell/ Sandy Springs area.

Only Chinese I will eat...

By Allison S |

Only Chinese I will eat. Nothing compares.

Always good and fresh, never too exciting.

By adamalama |

The only problem with this place is I haven't found anything too interesting. Never had a bad meal, hot, fresh, quick. No atmosphere-bright lights, wide open room.

Sum Fun

By Kolekei |

Pretty consistent - it ain't pretty but it's consistent. We had lunch there yesterday and it was quite busy . On several prior occasions it's been the same. A formula restaurant? Sure, the formula is good food, good service and good value you get all three here. Food served quickly, hot and plentiful. Service staff doesn't spend a lot of time introducing themselves, nor do they recite paragraph after paragraph of gushing prose describing how the chef decimated his personal gardens of every fine herb known to man and kept them under his pillow for a fortnight to cure them with good vibes and special electrolytes. It's just good food, served in a familial setting, leaving you full, satisfied and not penniless. We had noodles, pork, chicken, chinese broccoli and rice (of course), tea, all topped off with fortune cookies and orange slices. Check it out.

Bad Gringo Chinese

By Bruce J |

Once upon a time they had a Chinese food menu in addition to the typical Americanized (Gringo) "Chinese" food. No more. And this is the worst Americanized Chinese food. Interchangeable prepared packaged meat chunks as if they have pump containers of whatever sauce you ask for. The only redemption is the hot pots (4 stars) but you can get better Chinese at Panda Express. Gave it a chance because used to be decent and close by. Buford Highway and Cafe Q Johns Creek, here we come.

Wonderful Food That'll Keep You Coming Back for More

By StockholmKindaGuy |

Canton Cooks is located in a strip mall anchored by Whole Foods, off busy Roswell Rd. The moment you walk into this small casual Cantonese restaurant, you'll be taken in by the the aroma of the various foods being served. I've eaten here a couple of times and the place has always been packed, as it was on this occasion. The menu is extensive and made up of all your favorite Cantonese dishes and more. It took me a bit of time to make a decision, and a tough one it was. I ordered Moo Shu Chicken. I liked that they asked me if I wanted them to roll the pancakes, even though I knew how. The dish was excellent and like that the hoisin sauce was thicker. So often, at other Chinese restaurants I've found it to be watered down. Service was perfect, very friendly and attentive. Price are reasonable, more expensive at dinner time as you might expect. Canton Cooks is one of the better choices in Atlanta for Chinese food. There's so many more dishes I want to try here.

Decent chinese food

By Nikhil D |

I ordered the "tender" beef and broccoli, chicken fried rice and beef lo mein to go. The serving sizes were generous and the food was decent. However it was missing something. Overall I would say the food was rather bland. It wasn't bad but I don't think I will order from there again.

Huge portions, delicious food, reasonable prices

By panpanda |

This is my family's new favorite restaurant. After discovering it in April, we have all eaten here several times. You know you have hit the jackpot at an ethnic restaurant when many people in that ethnic group are also dining there. Don't miss the sizzling rice soup with shrimp

Terrible dinner

By getaccessorized |

We have been to this restaurant a few times in the past and enjoyed it. Tonight was very disappointing. Steamed pot stickers were so big and tough that you loose your appetite looking at them. On the menu it listed fresh dover sole - it is not fresh -it is frozen. We were told the spring rolls were fresh - they tasted definitely frozen. The baby back ribs were not what we expected. In any normal Chinese restaurant they have a glazed sauce on them. These were like short ribs and did not have the flavor of the glazed Chinese sauce. Why can't a Chinese restaurant that caters to their people actually make items on the menu fresh instead of frozen foods.

Best Chinese Restaurant in Atlanta!

By hrsm555 |

One of the best chinese food restaurant ever! Constantly received Zagat's awards, almost always crowded, even at midnight! Salt & pepper squid, steamed fish, fried crispy pork chop, fried chicken, just to name a few. Their sambal belacan is second to none! How I missed Canton Cooks' foods..

My favorite place for years

By TNutsMcNasty |

This is one of favorite place to go for years. So good. I always order off of the "authentic" white piece of paper. Lots of interesting foods but the normal menu is just as good. Highly recommended!

Worth visiting, all the away from Atlanta

By Jonathan F |

Not sure if this is supposed to be a Yelp-ish review, but as somebody that was visiting Atlanta for a few days, ending the trip by visiting here for Chinese food was perfect after not finding enjoyable Chinese food in Atlanta. Staples like beef chow fun were great, with the taste and aroma of expert cooking on a wok. The pea greens were delicious and tender, and a pork fillet dish that I'm not familiar with was crispy and flavorful. Portions were great for four of us, and service was fast. We got seated just before the dinner rush, and the place was packed by the time we were leaving, with people waiting.

Canton cooks on Abernathy road

By Dianne K |

There are two canton cooks, the newest one is the one we went to. The food was really good. It came out hot as we were 10 of us. The mixed wonton egg drop soup was sogood. They have the best egg rolls in town. We had about 6 dishes all of which were good. My least favorite was the egg foo yung. We all enjoyed our meal.

Favorite Chinese Place!!!!

Many other better choices for the money

By MisterBob41 |

They advertisemthat they are comparable to Happy Valley and BBQ corner. This is false, the Canton Cooks might be comparable to a stripmall fried rice emporium - at best

Good, dependable Chinese food - fast

By jpjpjpjpj |

We often come here for lunch from work and have always enjoyed this busy Chinese restaurant. They have a lunch menu, or you may order from their full menu. Always ordering from their lunch menu, my friend and I have been happy with the food, the service is quick and the food is served hot!

Good spot for lunch

By Marchelle C |

I had a pork dish, not so good. But, this is a good place to meet friends for lunch, table of 6 can be served quickly - and the lunch specials come with the egg roll, fried rice, and chicken wing. The soups looked good but I did not order that this time Service was fine, again for $8.00 it is a good spot for the money.

Blows away Mo mo ya

By RFAD |

We use to go to mo mo ya all the time. Thought we would try canton cooks for a change and have never gone back to mo mo ya. Better food , way better value and great for kids. They actually don't mind the kids "being" kids. If you have not given them a chance I highly recommend you do.

best chinese food in atlanta

By CindyTan888 |

Canton Cooks is by far the best chinese food I have tried in Atlanta, the food is consistent and always serves up piping hot and fast. You must order the fried calamari. It is my family';s go to place for chinese food hands down, We always order thefried calamari, fried chicken wing, stir fried beef and chinese broccoli, shrimp with eggs( wet style), deep fried oysters, wet style egg rice noodle with seafood, deep fried sea bass or steamed seabass with ginger/soy sauce, eggplant in claypot ( I asked to hold the sugar cos it tends to be too sweet), steamed pork with slated fish, seafood soup., Good value for money and oh so good! You will not be disappointed. This restaurant is located in Sandy Springs in the strip mall where Whole Foods is also located. They serve the food so fast that you are in and out of there in half hour if you eat as fast as us, lol, oh dont forget if you like spicy, their hot sauce and shrimp paste sauce is to die for and you can buy then separately, I have ordered them to bring to a friend in Los Angeles, it is that worth it. ,

Best In Atlanta

By JA M |

Always excellent. Great soups. Real egg rolls (not those skimpy spring rolls you get almost EVERWHERE ELSE in Atlanta. Superb main courses. Quite a long drive from Johns Creek, but always worth the trip.

A Disappointing Lunch!

By StockholmKindaGuy |

Canton Cooks sits off of busy Roswell Rd, in a heavy retail area. The interior is rather bland and could use an update. The corridor leading to the restrooms was packed with stuff. At lunch time, it wasn't to busy and I was seated immediately. Although the prices were reasonable, I was expecting a more robust lunch menu. I have to admit, nothing really jumped out at me and I settled for the General Tsao's Chicken, which didn't take long to arrive. I was disappointed with the quality of the chicken, as well as the sauce. Much too sweet. I disliked the dish so much, I ended up leaving a good portion of it. Prices and service were fine. It's been a few years since I last ate here. and I think the quality of he food has slipped. A Disappointing Lunch!

It's very good

By AtlFolks |

Very efficient lunch and friendly staff. Lunch was a very reasonable $8 and came with tea, rice, egg roll, and chicken wing. Big portions. Great flavors.

If you like Chinese this is good!

Take out

By Flamingo33767 |

Was very impressed with the quality of our meals. Needed food during a family emergency. No one was very hungry, but our appetites were back, after trying their tasty food. I would highly recommend.

Never dissapoints

By nquirinmginds |

This is the best chinese hands down in my opinion in Atlanta! I always get the General Tsos chicken during they lunch hours. For $7.50 you get their dinner sized portion. (After 2pm, they menu jumps from $7.50 to $11.50) . I take one star for this alone. Its 5 stars if you eat during their lunch times, 4 stars otherwise. Overall its a win win no matter what time you visit.

Apres Le concert

By Bodacious123 |

We grabbed some take away after a nearby concert. Walked in, ordered, amused ourselves with the fast paced flurry of bustling activity in the dining room. The large order was prepared quickly and correctly. The price was very reasonable. The fried rice in a variety of flavor is always a treat. The shrimp was tasty and nicely prepared. The take away accoutrements added a classic feel to the entire experience. The best part of the meal was after eating, we felt like we had eaten real food and not some MSG infused gringo glop that is often passed off as Chinese food. I recommend this restaurant for delicious food, prepared quickly and served well.

Don't bother trying

By Laura P |

Had BBQ ribs, which were really riblets - they had no taste and were very tough. Pork fried rice was tasteless and again the pork was so tough. Garbage for expensive food.

Canton really does cook.

By StockholmKindaGuy |

Canton Cooks in Atanta/ Sandy Springs, is a casual Chinese restaurant with a loyal following. Their menu features a wide variety of classic Chinese dishes, perfect for meat eaters and vegetarians. I ordered their Moo Shu Chicken. A dish made up of shredded chicken an assorted vegetables, which are rolled in a thin pancake along with hoisin sauce. My server mentioned I would need to roll the pancakes myself. No problem I said, I know the technique. Something I was taught many years ago. This dish didn't disappoint. Very tasty. Service was friendly. While the pries have gone up since I was last here, like everything else they were still affordable. If you're looking for good Chinese food, give Canton Cooks a try.

Lunch spectacular

By David K |

A true Chinese experience at a reasonable price. There is no more sophisticated meal you will find, tailored to your tastes in 100 miles, for less $$.

Not clean and not really authentic (there are better places!!)

By Jay C |

As a local guide I would not recommend you to go there for your health. They REUSE sauce, orange, napkin and other possible items that LOOKS fine. The plates are wiped by one cloth and only wash once or twice a day (Please noted that they use bleach to wipe the plate so on the plate I am not sure how much bleach was left before they put the food on so please think twice about what you are consuming). You would never imagine if the fried rice is from two days ago or not (oh...you will see a bucket on the floor collecting customer's leftover rice and YES your fried rice is from there). Basically, the reason behind it is because the boss of this restaurant is really saving up the expense for bigger buck himself. Good luck and enjoy here.

Love This Restaurant

Visited Canton Cooks II, and it is as good as the original. Really good Chinese food. The sauteed salt and pepper calamari is wonderful. Have been here for lunch and dinner. The lunch specials are huge and inexepensive. Plan on taking some home.

You can tell a lot about a restaurant by looking at their customers. Canton Cooks, while located in Sandy Springs, typically has more Asian customers than non Asian. But that can be misleading, until you try the food. Their dishes are hot, fresh, use quality ingredients, and each one has a unique flavor that helps it stand apart from any other Chinese restaurant you've ever tried. This is a hidden gem that you should try.

Best Chinese I've found in Atlanta recently

By Bonden-in-Florida |

Ate dinner here Christmas week with my wife. Our favorite Chinese restaurant in Atlanta shut down about ten years ago. Since then, we have tried a few places, but without much luck. Tried this one based on the reviews here, and was very happy. My wife and I both commented that this restaurant seems to have hired the cooks from our long gone old favorite. Great selection of dishes, service was attentive, food was delicious, hot, and fast. Portions were huge. Price was right. Will be back often.

Mediocre Chinese Food

By Belinda M |

I've been to this place for lunch and dinner. Even though dinner might have been just slightly better... I was very unimpressed with everything. It was a while back when I tried lunch so I'm not exactly sure what I got, but nothing too impressive. I remember saying I wouldn't come back for lunch though. So I decided to give dinner a try. I've been to this place a few years ago and remember really enjoying all of the food that was ordered. Yeah... not so much this time unfortunately. Here's what we got: - Wonton soup: I didn't get to try this aside from the soup but I was very disappointed in the way it was served. It came in this super tiny soup bowl. On the menu, it's priced at $4.95, but when we received the check, they marked it at $2.95. So I'm not sure if they made a mistake or not, but obviously I was expecting something a lot bigger if we're going to pay almost $5. The soup itself tasted really watery. No flavor. - Salt and Pepper Squid: We decided to try this since it was highly recommended on Yelp. Eh... Not sure what the hype is about. I didn't really like it and it had a very weird after taste to it. - Bean Curd and Mixed Seafood Hot Pot: This is always favorite type of dish to get. Although this dish was better than the first two, it was still not really that good. Portion was a decent size, but everything in there was mostly vegetables. It wasn't cooked very well so it tasted a little bland to me... Service wasn't good. It wasn't terrible but not good. One of the servers snapped at me when I told him I changed my mind about the hot and sour soup because of the tiny bowl it came in. No thank you sir, and I know I won't be back anytime soon if you're going to offer poor service and average/below average food.

Surprisingly Good Chinese Food in Sandy Springs

By AndreLePlume |

Canton Cooks has excellent Chinese food, every bit as good as the best places inside the perimeter, but in Sandy Springs. There are two locations, one just outside the perimeter on Roswell and the other a couple of miles north in the shopping center behind Nori Nori at Abernathy and Roswell. Both locations are excellent, though the Abernathy one is newer and cleaner. The salted squid is excellent, worth splitting as an appetizer.

Great Cantonese cooking.

Not ever again- embarrassing and mortifying experience!

By Mindee H |

Dont eat here!!!! After ordering we were presented with our bill before the soup even arrived. Although no one else in the restaurant was given their bill until their meal was complete, I asked our server ( who didn’t speak English) then the manager why we were required to pay. He screamed at us that we could pay or leave. When I tried to ask why we had to prepay again he screamed at us to leave or he was calling the police. It was extremely embarrassing and mortifying to both me and to my 83 year old mother. We left and won’t return. Needless to say, if you are visiting Marietta or the greater Atlanta area find another Chinese restaurant. There are plenty of good ones out there. PS I still don’t know why we were kicked out.

Had takeout from this place on Christmas day 2017

By Louis K |

The food was amazing, but I think everyone in Atlanta wanted to eat at or order from this place on Christmas day this year. :) Tried to call but couldn't get through so drove there and found a crazy zoo trying to get in. Was able to get in and place an order, and an hour later got the food. I say this not to say the place had bad service, but this is what happens when the food is so good that everyone wants to eat here.

"its coming"

By JLDCA |

We left our traditional Christmas eve Chinese meal angry and disappointed. After serving us the soup and spring roles, we got 2 of the 4 dishes we ordered after waiting a half hour. Then we sat and our waitress never came back. Every time they came to refill the water we asked where our food was and they said "its coming" every time. But it never came. We would flag down waiters and waitresses and they would give us the canned "its coming" but nothing came, except the check that billed us for everything we did not get.

Can't seem to ever get enough of this place!

I crave the spicy salted squid! The evening meal at Canton Cooks never disappoints. Every dish I have tried is awesome and the service is excellent too!

Wow-Great Dinner

If you are looking for an authentic cantonese meal, this place is perfect. Try any of the fresh seafood dishes family style---they are wonderful. I will be back many times.

Excellent Cantonese cuisine!

By Milthill |

We stopped in for lunch today and found the restaurant fairly empty, which was a surprise. Had something changed? Our concerns were quickly relieved. Our Happy Family arrived first, followed by the Kung Pao Chicken, with the Mongolian Beef being the last to arrive. All were very well received, but this portions were large enough that we brought quite a bit home. This is definitely a cut above typical Chinese restaurants.

One of the best Chines Restaurants around....

By George H |

We drive from Roswell to Sandy Springs to eat at this restaurant. It is usually pretty busy (packed on holidays like Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New years day). Food is always great, service is quick and efficient, and their health score ratings are typically A's. Recommend Canton Cooks highly. Located near Roswell Rd and Hammond Dr.

Very consistent and reasonably priced

By bobz06 |

We frequent Canton Cooks often. We like the consistency they achieve. We especially like their general tsao chicken, moo shu pork, beef and broccoli, mongolian beef, potstickers and egg rolls.

Good food at reasonable prices

American Chinese items dominate the menu, but you can find some traditional Cantonese dishes. Many Asians dine here which is testament to the authenticity of their cooking and variety of traditional dishes. They are good by Atlanta standards. Don't compare with New York or California Chinatowns. Restaurant is in an old mall. This neighborhood is in transition as witnessed by many vacancies in the nearby buildings. This should not discourage anyone from coming here. I came on a couple of occasions and was not disappointed. I stayed at hotels in the Sandy Springs area and this place is a short drive. There used to be a collection of good Chinese restaurants along Buford Hwy, but the Asian population made an exodus from that neighborhood around 2008 and continues, so the restaurants there vanished too. I found Canton Cooks very good and will continue to come here when I visit Atlanta.

Very delicious food

The food is very delicious especially the spicy salted squid (been as one of my favorites since 10 years ago) and crab with ginger sauce. Watch out with the MSG. I felt really sleepy and thirsty after the meal, common impact from MSG.

The Good Old Chinese Food!!

By Alisson B |

Very traditional Chinese dishes. Very tasty and pretty large portions. Try shrimp with Chinese veggies or sesame chicken. Great soups and appetizers to start from. Great for lunch, dinner or a take-out!

HORRIBLE

By Scott D |

Stay away from this place like the plague, the food is nothing than fast food frozen, the peking duck is so bad that I can't find a comment to even desrcribe it, the lighting in the place is so bright that it's blinding, I'm not even that picky of a person when it comes to food, but the service, all I can say is what service, whatever you do stay away from this place it's that bad

Best in Atlanta

By Nikelle K |

Canton Cooks is by far and away the best Chinese food I have had in Atlanta. If you are fan of food, this is a can't miss! We almost never order the same thing twice, because we want to try it all.

Excellent

Best Chinese food in the area. Always enjoy going there when visiting family in Atlanta. It can get very crowded so early dining is recommended.

Hidden prices in Chinese and abusive on extra charges like tips...watch out

By JOSE HERNANDEZ |

For several years I knew about this place, we came to spend a great dinner time, unfortunately at the point of paying for my guests, I have discovered that they were overcharging me extra for: restaurant service, 25% tip included, fee for the restaurant...over $87 US dollars were added, I was able to calculate and demand to speak with the manager(whole receipt is written in Chinese so you don’t know), she played like embarrassed and asked me to keep it quiet down and offered me a “discount” Like if I were demanding for it. I told her to be more honest and fair to the clientele...please before you pay it, add it up and you will see that there is an outrageous abusive amount and because you don’t know, you leave a good tip at table too.
