Consistancy...consistancy....consistancy

Just like 'location...location...location" the consistancy that Cappy's demonstrates is noteworthy. Over the years the quality is unchanged notwithstanding the COVID restrictions affecting the restaurant industry.

Fantastic Food, Great Service

By SKFM |

We’ve gone to Cappy’s several times over the years and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor tables have umbrellas which you can adjust — important in San Antonio. We’ve ordered lunch and dinner entrees, but the Sunday brunch has breakfast items which also look delicious and are on our list to try next time. Katie was our server during our last visit — she did a great job, very friendly and professional, ensuring we were taken care of without being intrusive.

Best fish this side of Iceland!

By jansonatrip |

For a special monthaversary dinner, 3/15/19 Cappy's was definitely the right place. omg, every bite of that fresh, light, perfectly prepared Icelandic Cod was The Best! The Best since I was in Iceland and tasted fish right out of those crystal-clear waters. Oh yum. If I could catch (no pun intended) Cappy's on another Islandic Fish evening, I'll be there.

Good Sunday brunch

By HockeyTravelGuy |

Our brunch started with Bloody Marys and mimosas. The bloody Mary’s were nice and spicy and garnished with a pepper, pickle and bacon. Our orders were a Cobb salad, burger, eggs Benedict and a shrimp avocado omelet with egg whites. The omelet came out without egg whites and when pointed out it was quickly taken away and remade. All the food was fine if not remarkable. Just solid.

Incredible service & lanb‼️

By E and C P |

Friends suggested Cappy’s for our votos from LA— and are we delighted they did‼️👏‼️ From the first greetings through out the evening, every Cappy’s employee was courteous and knowledgeable. And the martinis, wine, caprice salad ( with pears b/c in season)- lamb chops and creme pie were to die for‼️ It is not exactly on Broadway: turn onto Mary D half a Bock into its shaded parking lot: you WIL be happy you did.

A rare gem!

By Dan |

Our last night in San Antonio, and after much research we narrowed our choices to two and then one! Made it to Cappy’s and parked on Broadway and then found out they had great parking in the rear! It’s nested off the road, a bit odd, but when you get inside, it’s very nice. We should have made a reservation, but, we were lucky! Sat us down and our waiter Dave greeted us and we discussed items we saw on the menu! We narrowed it down to three items and then to two. He talked us into a specially batter fried oysters on a toasted brioche bread with a light cheese and a home made chutney that was fantastic! Then to our main entree, The wife got the halibut with a delicate potato crusted with wine glaze. I had the ribeye from Allen Bros with a bone marrow butter glaze. My steak was great, but the Wife’s halibut was so moist, tender and with the crispy crust, it was outstanding! He also talked us into a Brussels Sprout Kim Chee! Really wonderful! Finished with a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream! Lord save me it was fantastic! One of the managers came by checking on things and we found out his name was James. Super nice man and I always like seeing them checking on how things are going outside the kitchen! An awesome place and we will be back!

Where nice folks go for brunch.

By Randy B |

Cozy little spot for brunch. Lots of nice neighborhood folks (on the mid to high end scale). Get there early for a table. Good Eggs Benedict. Great service.

Really good restaurant!

By Joseph R |

What can you say about Cappy's that hasn't already been said? They are #8 in San Antonio for a reason. Good, good food. It isn't the largest restaurant so sometimes getting a seat quickly can be a challenge so would definitely recommend a reservation. But when you do get seated, a great meal awaits you! We are never disappointed at Cappy's.

Might be the best meal I have had in San Antonio

By BigJon55 |

Found this place on TripAdvisor and WOW what a find! We started with the pate’ which was topped with a type of pepper jelly and served with thin, crispy and buttery grilled bread slices. The lamb may be the best we have tried anywhere. The gumbo was phenomenal with a very dark roux and topped with blackened drum. To finish we had bread pudding and sticky toffee pudding...one of my favorite desserts anywhere!

Brunch with Suzanne

By bharkins814 |

Cappy's is a family-owned and operated restaurant in the beautiful Alamo Heights area. It is a bit pricey, but I think folks know that when they choose a restaurant in that area. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is uplifting. No better place to sit on an outdoor patio with dinner and good wine on a fall evening. There are two items on the menu that bring me to Cappy's over and over, and whomever is with me tries these two dishes and is equally delighted. Those two items are the gorgonzola and endive salad as a starter, and the sticky toffee pudding as a finale. Those dishes pair well with anything you choose for an entree. Then, there is their yummy week-end brunch. Crab Louis is great, as are most of their brunch dishes! Be careful--don't fill up on the wonderful bread basket before your meal is served! They have some to-die-for muffins and strawberry butter spread in the basket that are heavenly with coffee, cappuccino or a mimosa! Their festive Bloody Mary will sizzle your brunch entree and keep you smiling the rest of the day! They are typically closed between 3 and 5 or 5:30 p.m. to prepare for dinner, so do keep that in mind!

Delicious food & awesome customer service!

By Sarah Burke |

Amazing atmosphere, awesome food & great customer service! My husband & I loved the outdoor patio seating & the total vibe. We were there on a Friday, so my husband got the prime rib which is only available Fri & Sat. I got the halibut based on our waitress’s recommendation & TA reviews. Both were DELICIOUS. Our order took a little longer than normal due to an internet issue causing our order to not be submitted on time. We were not concerned with this at all because we were enjoying our time outside so much. To top it off, the managers went above & beyond to make up for the time delay, giving us a free appetizer (blue cheese wedge salad) & dessert (crème brûlée) of choice. The customer service was incredible & more than we could’ve asked for! Cappy’s has been our favorite restaurant in San Antonio so far & we will definitely be visiting again!

A great experience

By katwilmay92 |

A great experience, its food and attention, we had a good time, its atmosphere is very warm and cozy, I will surely visit it soon since the whole experience of eating there was unforgettable

Always a Favorite. Excellent Food

By Antonio B |

We have been to Cappy’s on multiple occasions being San Antonio residents. (5 times at the very least) My wife and I always get the same thing because it is absolutely amazing. We start with the Blue Crab Cakes to finish up with their Halibut which we’ve never had better prepared anywhere. Absolutely delicious and a great cozy spot with talented chefs. Although most of the time the staff is kind we have experienced rudeness so I do wish the servers on average were a bit more attentive as we are great tippers and kind to everyone so not sure where it comes from. We always experience the same lengthy wait to get additions (side sauces, silverware replacements, refills) and refills are for some reason seldom brought without asking unless the glasses are completely empty. Perhaps our luck of the draw but our experience with service nonetheless. The food never waivers from excellent so given this I will continue to return.

Awful crab cakes benedict - would not recommend

By TravelandFoodLover06 |

I was excited to have brunch here on my visit to San Antonio based on all the positive reviews. It was one of the worst brunches I have ever had. The highlight was the baked goods basket with strawberry butter - that was delicious and gave me high hopes for the main meal that were not met. I had the crab cakes benedict which received high praise in reviews. I have this dish a lot at other restaurants and this was a huge fail here. The biscuit it was on was buttery and fluffy so that was good (so if you are expecting the crab cake to be the base they do not do that here). The "crab cake" was super thin (an 1/8 to 1/4 inch) and mostly crumbs and little to no crab meat. It added no flavor and gave it an unpleasant crunchy texture and oily and almost burnt taste (it was like having a bread crumb layer). Eggs were poached nicely and the hollandaise had good flavor with a bit of spice. Potatoes were awful. They clearly pre-cook them in some way perhaps to manage the brunch rush. They kindly replaced the inedible first batch but the "fresh" replacement was just as bad. They had no flavor (other than bad mineral taste from the water they are cooked in) and tasted stale. We did not even eat them. It was the only disappointing meal I had in San Antonio. Would not recommend. Find somewhere else to go if you are on your way to the McNay Art Museum.

Cappy's exceeds expectations

By MartiJ W |

My family (5 + 1 toddler+ 1 infant) ate at Cappy's for dinner. I made reservations and included that we wanted to be downstairs and had 2 little ones. Cappy's called the day of the dinner and confirmed everything. Upon arrival our table was ready downstairs as asked and they already had a high chair and sling for the children. Our waiter, though busy, was very attentive. He even made kid meal suggestions. I had the scallops and they were awesome. Another person had shrimp and oysters. She and I can't eat spicy and the waiter kindly made a few substitutions. Several persons had the prime rib. It was served with the degree of doneness as ordered. The crust was quite spicy. We saved room for excellent desserts. Loved the creme brulee, the chocolate cake was decadent and those who had the hard ice cream (with alcohol) loved it. This is by far one of the most pleasant dining experiences I have had(and I travel quite often). If you are in San Antonio and looking for moderately priced, delicious food and great service, I definitely recommend Cappy's.

Delicious food

By markhogan81 |

The food at Cappy’s is delicious, the service is superb and the ambiance exquisite. The salads are diverse and taste great. The fish dishes are all great.

Great food !

By Osan M |

Great sharing plates and super service from staff. I would highly recommend this place for a celebration. Highly recommend Cappy's Restaurant for all visitors.

Came here for the good memories from many years back

By CS1Portland |

The place has a nice warm & comfortable feel to it and a welcome as you walk in the door. We had drinks at the bar with our friends first and the bar staff were excellent. We recommend the Hemingway daiquiris. Our waiter was Rob who did a very good job and was friendly and helpful. We each enjoyed the lettuce wedge, and the shrimp nachos were super good as was the lamb rack. The ribeye was OK, Rare + apparently not an option here. The wine list was sufficient though expensive. A lot of locals and regulars obviously keep returning to enjoy the consistency.

San Antonio favorite-Alamo Heights regulars

Great food, eat upstairs, servers know their stuff, can be noisy on weekends. Prime rib on weekends is excellent. Specials are worth trying anytime. Coconut Cream pie is to die for.

Can’t go wrong

By Kenneth P |

Wonderful place. Atmosphere is anything but stuffy yet food is 5 star. Mostly seafood but steaks at the table were perfect. I’d consider a hidden gem.

It's okay

By Charlie B |

This is a great location a block north of Central Market HEB on Broadway St., but it has its drawbacks. Parking is a bit of a squeeze and it was difficult to find handicapped space. The friendly host greeted my elder friend and me warmly and found us a table right away on Wednesday evening at 5:30 and Heather waited on us with attentive service and a never-fail smile. Bathrooms are either upstairs (You're kidding me, right?) or outside in another location. Here's a twist on the concept of "bathroom:" two doors, one labeled, "man woman," and the other labeled, "woman man." I was just glad a strong lock was on the door. Sorry, ladies, but you'll be using the bathroom a man just left, with highly variable results. Now let's take a look at the menu, however, which was printed in 10-point font and difficult to read, but was heavily favoring their seafood selections. Being from Corpus Christi I knew the restaurant was over 100 miles from the coast, but the fried oysters were good and my well-traveled friend said the crab cakes were the best she ever had. Specifically, there was only crab in them, rather than bread crumbs, imitation crab, or the ersatz gels and fillers that are so often the norm. We also ordered the duck pate served with toasted cibatti and it was so good I ordered a second for take-away for my wife. With tea and water, our bill came in just over $50, but it chagrined me to see the restaurant offered no discount for military service in Military City, USA.

Food and service can't be beat

By Pierrefrancisco1 |

Came to Cappy's for our anniversary. Had the crab cake, ribeye, and prime rib. All were excellent. Cocktails were tasty as well. The service can't be beat. A drink was accidentally spilled and we probably had 3 servers all come over to help clean up. We were given a window table when told it was our anniversary and even gave us a complimentary dessert. I wish I lived in San Antonio for this restaurant alone. Thank you for making our dinner so special!

Very Nice Visit

Very good service and excellent food. Always a pleasant place to go! We brought visitors from out of town who had not been there in years and enjoyed it very much,

$19 glass of wine added to tab

By Troy B |

Please forward to manager. After we (table of 4 upstairs, 5:30, 01/02/2424, reservation #: 2110349249) had dinner at what had been of our favorite places years ago, there was a mis-cue at the end. I reported this in detail shortly thereafter, asking that my comments reach the manager. Issue: Our check included a $19 glass of Frank Family Chard, NOT ordered , NOT received. It was my mistake not seeing this add-on to our check at the time, but it's very dark upstairs. We had carried a glass of wine to the table, so possibly this was an honest mistake.

Disrespect to Military in uniform

By Obakeiro |

Disappointed with Cappy’s hospitality who didn’t welcome us to their dinning location. We were a group of six Army Reserve Officers in uniform who wanted to enjoy a great dinner following a long day of work. All respected medical professionals from across Texas. The hostess was cold, unattentive and made comments clear to discourage our presence. We all realized how unwelcomed we were and opted to leave and not do business there. We sacrifice time with family in order to serve this great nation. To be treated with disrespect not only as individuals but disrespect to what our uniform represent was eye opening. Specially in San Antonio, a city that always associates itself with the military. MAJ, Army Nurse Corps, USAR

Nice atmosphere but food, meh.....

By David W |

I came in after a long day of business, somewhat starved. I love the Alamo Hts. location, and the atmosphere is like a secluded rendevouz…..nice view of the back patio and gardens. I was quickly greeted and seated. As a solo, I was turned off by the hostess insistence to place me at a 2 top table, even though the restaurant was not crowded. Menu came, and I had difficulty orderings, as the all the meat items that appealed to me were coupled with strange vegetable pairings.....and I was afraid I would have dinner and still be hungry....Thus I settled on seared salmon, served over a corn polenta with a strange green vegetable, and mashed potatoes. I wanted a house salad, but was amazed at the cost, $9.00 for greens......Neat menu, but don't come in if you are hungry.....

Always good food!

By Rhonda E |

Love the atmosphere and menu. If you are looking for something different and paired with a great bottle of wine, you will find it at Cappy's

Excellent selection of food. Good prices too. The soups, pizzas, burgers, salads are outstanding. Good selections of beers and wines. Full bar as well. Service exceptional.

Surpassed expectations

By Susan F |

Cappy's is a highly-rated restaurant, so we decided to give it a try for our anniversary. We expected great food and excellent service, but Cappy's and our server Lindsay exceeded our expectations. The fried Gulf shrimp were huge, perfectly cooked, and adorned with a delectable batter. The dirty rice might have been a perfunctory side, but even it was prepared with extra care and was a treat. I had the crab cake, and the aroma hit me as I raised my fork from the plate. It promised a delicious bite and . . . wow! Do not pass up the brussels sprouts, which came as a generous serving and were fantastic. Lindsay struck the perfect balance between personable and professional, which added an extra touch to the overall experience. We will definitely return to Cappy's for any special occasion and will request an encore performance by Lindsay.

Surprisingly amazing!

By bdingleprof |

I got eggs, pancakes, and canteloupe, and it was fantastic. Really cool vibe in this place, and great presentation of the dishes. Definitely not your average breakfast place, that's for sure.

San Antonio tradition - American food

By Janis857 |

A native San Antonian recommended this place to me, and he was right - food is great. Fine steak and fish. Located behind a shop, but you can see the sign from the side by the walkway to the entrance.

Perfect Casual-ish Anniversary Dinner

By LBinTX |

Visiting San Antonio for another event, the timing coincided with our wedding anniversary, so we looked for something with good food, but not fancy (we didn't bring the clothes for it, plus our 12 yo was with us). Cappy's seemed like a good choice and wasn't too far from where we were staying. Glad that they recommend reservations on their website, as it was quite busy at 7:15 on Saturday evening. We were seated immediately upon arrival and liked the vibe of the place - outdoor seating, indoor open to second floor, light brick, wood and metal stairs. Comfy, though a bit narrow, padded chairs. We were well cared for by our server who explained the evening's specials. We started with the special appetizer - a smoked beef carpaccio with arugula salad and a sweet balsamic vinaigrette. It paired perfectly with the smoky Paloma cocktail. For dinner, my son had the gumbo (very dark roux - said it was the best he'd had), my husband the PEI mussels (great flavor, garlic bread to soak up the liquid) and I the salmon with lobster mashed potatoes (loved that I was asked how I wanted the salmon cooked and it came out correctly; a few nice chunks of lobster in the potatoes). We all chose a different dessert as well - the warm chocolate cake, key lime pie and sticky toffee pudding. All were well done and freshly made (I dislike places that make/buy them in advance and just pull them out of the refrigerator!). We weren't rushed and all of the food was fantastic. When asked what brought us to San Antonio, we mentioned our anniversary and were comped two desserts - a pleasant surprise. I can see why this has been a San Antonio institution for many, many years. The atmosphere, service and food are very, very good. Try it - you won't be sorry!

Extraordinary

By Barbara W |

Have been to Cappy's for dinner; but went for Sunday brunch! Their menu is special! Not too many choices so that one is overwhelmed. Each one a jewel. It is crowded on a Sunday morning; and the parking is difficult. But - pack your patience and expect a culinary treat.

Dinner

By Joann M |

Our reservations were not honored. Hostess Izva? Was irritated if not hostile. We were reseated several times. This is a restaurant that I eat at frequently but have never been treated so poorly.

Wonderful

By r0bertcraigc |

Cappy's is celebrating over 40 years in San Antonio. It is where the locals go for a lovely evening and delicious meal. The restaurant is like eating in a warm art gallery. They also have a lovely patio that is usable about 9 months out of the year. The most popular dish is probably the Mustang Chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetables. It is incredible! Even though we do love the Mustang Chicken Cappy's offers other wonderful dishes we get as well. Their crab cakes are crispy and filling. The prime rib is perfect! Any seafood special is also delicious. Salads are large enough for two and would recommend splitting a wedge before dinner. You can't go wrong with any vegetables prepared here - they are tender and savory. To top off the evening definitely save room for the Sticky Toffee Pudding with ice cream. Amazing! It is large enough for 2. The warm chocolate cake comes in a close second. We know you will love it here! One caveat - if you have trouble with stairs tell them when you make your reservations - part of the restaurant is upstairs and there is no elevator.

Casual vibe with Excellent Food

By Mardel F |

I originally went to Cappy's as a young adult visiting family in the area. I had not returned in decades and was pleased to see that it is still around and that the food was excellent. I started with the pate, and asked that it be served with lettuce leaves as I have a gluten allergy. The restaurant was accommodating and the pate itself was excellent. I was expecting the Chile pequin in the jam to have a stronger presence, which I might have enjoyed, but the Chile did add a subtle presence to the dish. I followed the pate with the mussels, which were excellent. Our server was very attentive and we had a lovely experience. I will happily eat there again if I ever return to San Antonio.

Great place with outstanding food and wonderful service!

By Stevemtexas |

Excellent experience. We went Christmas eve for a nice relaxing dinner, just the two of us. We ordered a couple of drinks from our server Belle, who was super, and we enjoyed the conversation. It was nice being in a restaurant where you can actually hear the people you are with, unlike some where the background noise drowns everyone and everything out. Belle suggested the mushroom soup as an appetizer, so we did. It was very good. Good flavor without being overdone with salt and spices. I then ordered the ribeye and my wife had the shrimp and Brussel sprout dish. Steak was done perfectly and the couscous was tender and flavorful. My wife really enjoyed her dish and commented about how good it was. This was our second visit this month and we had the shrimp nachos last time. VERY good, so I highly recommend them. We’ve had several dishes over the last few months and everything is prepared well and flavorful. During mild weather it’s got an outside area to dine in. It’s pretty nice also. We’ve sat in the upstairs area, outside area , and ground floor main area recently and all are very nice. Good selection of dishes so everyone can find something to enjoy. They get pretty busy but we’ve never had to wait long.

San Antonio visit

By Nenad P |

Cappy's is a must visit for any traveller to San Antonio. The staff are welcoming and very attentive and the food is exceptional. The catch of the day was delicious and cooked to perfection and the deserts to die for...sticky toffee pudding strongly recommended. Our finest meal in Texas, and we have been here for about a month!!!

Great food and ambiance...

By David C |

A very nice restaurant, with great food. A great place for a special couples night out. The Chicken & Duck Liver Pate' and Pan Seared Diver Scallops are just divine!

Takeout dinner was fine, but

By layovers |

Takeout dinner was fine, but adding 20% surcharge is a bit much, especially on a bottle of wine they didn’t even need to open. Most restaurants these days are just happy you came to them!

FOREVER GREATNESS!!

By Ellen W |

This restaurant has been around forever. It is a staple in San Antonio. They consistently serve outstanding food with an unusual variety each night. The service is good and the fish is fabulous.

Nice atmosphere

By evelyn s |

Place is small and cozy, tables are set with cloth napkins and cover. Waiters are helpful and friendly. A bit pricey but for a nice ambiance and good eggs benedick it is worth a try. They have an extensive menu from breakfast to dinner items. You can eat healthy to not so healthy depending on what you order.

30 years of excellence

By FiveDivers |

I have been going to this restaurant since 1990s. The food has always been excellent. The service has always been exquisite. Great combination. Great location for business meetings and for family gatherings.

casual restaurant -- went for Saturday brunch

By shirley0415 |

The menu offers eggs a lot of different ways and then has regular meals like gumbo, fried shrimp, chicken dishes. They need more all natural sugar sodas. The bread basket has an interesting assortment of corn bread, scones/muffins, and biscuits. Nice touch is strawberry spread for the bread. I had lobster and eggs (menu also said it had crab but I did not encounter any crab). It was a very salty dish so luckily I did not add salt without tasting it. Good size portions. But I would probably try a different place next time in San Antonio as I did not care for the menu overall -- just too many eggs and no pancakes or waffles at brunch -- and the omelet choice very limited. And the chicken made in a very spicy sauce (dijon and peppers) with horseradish. Price is reasonable for the portions.

Great service, good food

By kalyan S |

The food was good...we ordered a Heights burger with a Baja veg salad. Quantity was sufficient. The service was out of the world. I have been to many restaurants which push you at the end of their hours but the people here went out of their way to give us outstanding service. Need to try their brunch menu.

First Time Here and I Will Be Back!

By BluePlate-Now |

Went here for a Saturday Brunch to try this place out. Excellent visit! Made a reservation, sat out on the patio. Small patio, shaded, all table had umbrellas and fans blowing. Patio is shaded from the sun. Started off with the seasonal White Peach Sangria and the house bloody mary, both were excellent! Soup du jour was tomato and gorgonzola with bacon and croutons = excellent! We went on to the steak frites and the mustang chicken = excellent! Antonio our waiter and the rest of the wait staff were very attentive. Kyle, General Manager, came by to check on us and ask how our meal / visit was going. Give this place a try!!

Wonderful food and service!

By jerrey |

Lovely quite restaurant. Food was delicious with good variety of options. Service was great!! Will most certainly return!

Best meal we had in San Antonio!

By Josie679 |

This was the best meal we had during our recent stay in San Antnio. It was a bit pricey but we did order drinks and some of the higher priced entrees. Both the Kale and Endive salads were excellent. The potato-crusted Halibut as well as the local catch were delicious. The service was excellent as well and the restaurant had a nice ambiance.

Outstanding In Every Way

By Smokey1611 |

Great Ahi, crabcakes, burgers and especially their homemade onion rings. The atmosphere is great as is the service. It's not cheap but the portions are big and EVERYTHING is really great.

Wonderful brunch

By MTF |

We were a group of 4 adults and 2 children and had a reservation. Our table was ready and we were promptly seated. We were served water and a basket of mini muffins with delicious strawberry butter. The menu is varied- seafood, beef, pork. Two of us chose an item called Homard: truffle scrambled eggs with lump(nice big chunks too!) crab meat and it’s topped with a lobster tail and hollandaise sauce. It was fabulous! The other adults got crab cakes Benedict and a horseradish and panko crusted chicken over potatoes- both were very happy with their selections. We were not offered a children’s menu and asked about one. We were told that they weren’t printed but our server suggested the scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes combo and the little girls enjoyed them. Our mimosas, Bloody Mary and wine were all perfect. Busy but the manager came by a couple of times to ask if everything was ok and our server was friendly, efficient and polite. We’d highly recommend!

An explosion of flavor!

By John B |

The food was truly amazing- Every bite a delight, from the pre-meal biscuits through to the sticky toffee dessert (SOOOO buttery!) We were there for brunch, and I had the lobster grilled cheese with avocado, and my wife had the ranch-hand eggs Benedict. The staff was super friendly and attentive, the manager stopped by a couple of times to chat. I would give six stars if I could

Solid Neighborhood restaurant

By Bruce F |

A little hard to find on the west side of the 5000 block of Broadway in Alamo Heights. However, you will find that you will need reservations to be seated inside. During warmer days, the outdoor patio is wonderful, and welcomes bringing your dog when on an evening walk. Menu always has at least one special soup plus great gumbo, a special starter (last night it was grilled oysters in the half shell) and a main course special. The menu is strong on several fish entrees , and the desert of warm chocolate cake with ice cream is the best chocolate cake I have ever eaten. Open for lunch and dinner and great brunch on Sundays. This is a neighborhood cafe, so expect to see patrons dressed in tuxedos and exercise clothes...........and always greeting their friends.

Very Good Lunches and Great Service

By Michael S |

Two couples for lunch on a Monday. Seated easily (but it can get quite busy). Lindsay, our Server, was friendly, attentive and efficient. Our meals of soup, mac & cheese, salads and fried shrimp were all delicious. We shared a desert of carmel toffee cake and ice cream which was exceptional. Filled with local folks, which is always a good sign.

Superb Dining

By jwmjr |

We have eaten at Cappy's more times than I can count. I'd call it a neighborhood place in that it has that special feeling when you are eating there -- that you and the other diners are all family. The food is outstanding -- lunch or dinner. The service is always first-rate. It's just a place that once you go, you'll go again and again.

outstanding

By MollyGrace |

We were in San Antonio for a week, playing the tourist. Tried many different restaurants. This was by far our best experience. Food quality, and service, were superior. Glad we came! Hot food was hot, with hgih quality ingredients, and sticky toffee pudding melted in your mouth.

A Wee Bit of Heavenly Food on Earth!

By Texastreat |

My parents brought my husband and me to celebrate my annual birthday (pun intended)…James was our outstanding waitperson who provided exceptional service and "to-die-for" meals from the kitchen! We were there for Sunday brunch. First we were provided with tasty little sweet muffins and hot scones. I had the Allen Bros. beef tenderloin & pommes frites. My mom had the fish of the day - fresh trout and the guys had Eggs Benedict with various meats. We didn’t have dessert cos we had a divine Chocolate Italian Cream cake from Austin’s Upper Crust Bakery at home. I’ve never found this flavor anywhere in Texas or surrounding states! As for Cappy’s = We are going to start a monthly tradition to drive down from Austin to enjoy this little jewel of a restaurant! Well done Cappy’s! We will be back! Promise!

Great food and great service! No wait. We had a very good experience and definitely would recommend.

Delicious lunch after visiting Botanical Gardens

By Dan F |

After visiting the Botanical Gardens, we checked TripAdvisor for nearby lunch suggestions. Cappy's came up as a recommended spot and we definitely agreed with the ratings. We really enjoyed our lunch. We had brussel sprouts as a side item and they were the best sprouts we had even eaten. There was a dressing on them that made all the difference. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant.

First time

By J L |

Went for early dinner. Had the wedge and halibut. Both were very good and nice portions. Prices were upper medium. Service was prompt and attentive. I would go back. Dress on customers was all over the spectrum.

Toffee Heaven

By DavidS |

Cappy's came recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed. We all ordered different dishes and then shared. The fried Gulf Shrimp were very good, the remoulade sauce made the dish. My favorite was the Mustang Chicken with Brussel Sprouts......soooo good! We also had the Pork Milanese and Crab Cakes, all delicious. The absolute winner of the meal was dessert. The Sticky Toffee Pudding is to die for!!!!!! No matter what you choose to eat, save room for that pudding. Best dessert that I've ever eaten. Thank me later!

Fabulous Food, service and ambience!

By a32aSusann M |

One of the best restaurants in the city! Went for a birthday celebration. Try the mustang chicken, it's a WOW! Shrimp and brussel sprouts appetizer was divine. Service is impeccable, not rushed. Warm chocolate cake with blue bell ice cream was the perfect treat! Great place!

Great Seafood and Atmosphere!

I grew up in San Antonio and never came to Cappy's . I really missed out! The atmosphere is cozy as the entrance to the restaurant is on the side. The seafood is fantastic! The shrimp and oyster platter is absolutely scrumptious! I love oysters and this is was very well-prepared. They have a good selection of wines and beers. We will definitely be back.

Awesome experience

Wonderful food! Great food, staff friendly. Will go back... Had a special evening with exceptional food.

Great fine dining

By Brian C |

San Antonio has a lot of good restaurants but when you need a change from Texmex or good Italian Cappy’s is one of the best fine dining experiences in town. The seafood dishes here are particularly good but the whole menu is well thought out. The atmosphere is quiet and sophisticated. With more time I would certainly have returned. One of the best dinners I,ve experienced.

Great food

By Mirna E |

The food is great! We had the chicken mustang with was outstanding and the daily special of red fish with crab crust in the oven which was ok. This restaurant offers good value for money and we will return.

Disappointed

By Karen Z |

Dined at Cappy's last weekend. Was disappointed. We order the Field Greens salad for an appetizer. That was excellent. We also ordered 2 the prime rib dinners. The vegetables were hot, the mashed potatoes were barely warm, and the prime rib was barely warm. Half of it was fat. After removing the fat from both prime ribs, you could have made another prime rib portion. Have noticed that at nicer restaurants, if you do not order alcohol, then your service suffers. I know that alcohol raises the tab, but not everyone drinks. Twice, we had to ask our server for additional water. I guess he thought that because we were not going to have a big tab, he didn't have to give us good service. We noticed that the table next to us was getting excellent service, but they were also drinking alcohol. We finish our meal by ordering coffee. We left a 20%+ tip, but don't think that he deserved it. Why does good service depend on whether you are drinking alcohol or not????? Wait staff need to remember that lousy service, for any kind of purchase, can also mean lousy tips. Tipping is not mandatory.

Awesome Date Night Place

By drdmromeo |

My husband and I had a wonderful date night at Cappy’s this week. Service was excellent, our drinks were great ( I had the Spritz, he had a red blend), followed by a yummy goat cheese salad. I had the shrimp entree and he had salmon tacos, both were also excellent. We look forward to returning soon for another great dinner!

Wonderful patio brunch

By Mike B |

We had brunch today on the patio at Cappy's Restaurant. The weather was perfect for outside dining, not hot, but mostly overcast. The menu choices were varied and appealing. We both had egg dishes with fish or vegetables. They were pretty good, but not great. The food is usually very good. Service was fine for most of the meal. Cappy's patio is dog friendly. There were 3 or 4 cute dogs on the patio while we were dining. The dogs were well mannered and we enjoyed seeing them. We will be back to Cappy's soon, as it is one of our favorite restaurants in San Antonio. We also like Cappuccinos which is next door. It is more casual serving sandwiches, salads, pizzas and soups. It is good for a quick meal and a drink or a glass of wine.

Suprisingly outstanding meal

By Principalbob |

Wonderful restaurant with a menu with a lot of variety. Mustard chicken can't be beat and the sticky toffee pudding is a must!

Delightful

By Playsureful |

Cappys is in a charming setting under old Live Oaks in Alamo Heights area near Incarnate Word U. Parking can be a struggle, but keep circling for one. We were seated right away during noon rush, upstairs table in smaller, cooler, loft area. Pleasant waitress and caring management staff. We had a great lunch mid week. Lunch SeaBass was cooked just right for me, 2 sides were wonderful tasting smashed potatoes which was top off with a yummy cream sauce and a Summer veggie medley of Squashes and Cauliflower and Broccoli. My Mimosa was fresh squeezed orange. Cappys is a local favorite, I would suggest calling in a reservation just in case. I recommend for everyone to enjoy. Leave the kids at home.

Oustanding

I have been going here for years. Fantastic food and service every time. I had the prime rib tonight.

In-laws and out-laws

By Placido521 |

Cappy's, while not seeming to be a fine restaurant, really steps up to the plate when it comes to food and service. Don't expect crystal and string quartets- just excellent variety and food. The presentation is excellent, everything came out hot and beautiful. We had everything from the gumbo supper to the pork Milanese to nachos! Expect to pay $40+ per person for a great experience and unforgettable food. Cappy's really is a great neighborhood and city restaurant.

Birthday celebration ruined

By Danell D |

Cappy’s was one of our favorites pre pandemic. Food was delicious and the service was exceptional. Took a friend to celebrate her birthday and what a change! The food is till good (not like it used to be, obviously new chefs in the kitchen), but the service is what ruined our visit. Our plates were never cleared, our watered never refilled, never asked if we needed anything. I had to get up out of my chair and go over to our waiter (Tyler) to ask for our check. He was too busy socializing with the other wait staff. What a disappointment. The old Cappy ambiance is gone. It’s a good restaurant but nothing special like it used to be.

Wow!!! SO Good!!!

By PJCgo |

Wow!!! This was our first time to Cappy’s. My husband & I had a crab cake to start which was good. The bread is also yummy. I had the salmon with lobster mashed potatoes-SO, SO good!!! My husband had the daily special which was a pan-fried grouper, which he enjoyed. The star of the evening was the Sticky Toffee Pudding-make sure you save room-it is FANTASTIC!!! Last but not least, I had a coffee drink, a Cafè Cappy, with decaf espresso, Bailey’s, Amaretto, Kahlua & Frangelico-yum!

Delicious food and great service

By Jodi S |

Fantastic restaurant. Excellent and knowledgeable server, fresh seafood served with delicious and plentiful accompaniments. Our server knew the drink menu and bourbons. Impressive and fun to talk with about that and San Antonio. We received a complimentary dessert-Sticky Toffee Pudding. So delicious. Highly recommend and do make a reservation.

Cannot go wrong everything is delicious

great food and service! you cannot go wrong! everything is delicious and the kind staff makes it a wonderful experience. Special thanks to our seever Haley from Colorado! She was phenomenal!

An SA Icon - Superb food!!!

By Rosezdent |

Cappy's has been around forever, yet the menu is always current, innovative, fresh and exquisite to the taste buds! One of my all time favorites, not only due to the food but due to the generosity of Mr. Laughton & his family - always giving back to the community!!! It also has a full bar, excellent desserts & Sunday Brunch! If you want a real treat. go to Cappy's for lunch or dinner, you'll be glad you did! And, for breakfast or lunch (or a nice glass of wine) go next door to Cappycino's for excellent coffee, sandwiches, deserts and wine!

Delicious food and comfy, intimate dining experience

By 973katryns |

Cappy's is a great choice for upscale dining in a comfortable, inviting atmosphere. The food is fresh, delicious, and a varied-enough menu for everyone to find something to their liking. Their bread is to die for! The crab cake and the Mustang Chicken are our go-to dishes every time.

Great place for guests

By barbarahigdon |

I entertained friends from South Carolina here for lunch, and they were so impressed with the lovely location, attractive rooms and especially with the lunch. Service was exceptional today and the food was as good as it always is. There's a nice variety on the menu--something for everyone. It was hard for them to decide from so many yummy offerings. One chose the Felix bean burger and loved it. He said, "I can eat a salad at home!" The portions were huge and we took two boxes home with us. I like to visit local restaurants when I'm out of town--we can always eat at a chain. Cappy's is locally owned by a life long San Antonio resident, so it's a great choice for local flavor.

Food was OK, service and attitude of servers was awful

By David B |

We had to eat outside, and it was quite cold and windy. We asked if they had any blankets and were told rhat they'd get some. That was the last we saw of that server. My wife had a hit rum drink and it warmed her up. I asked for one, but only if the waiter could get it right away and it was really hot. He said 'no problem.' About 20 minutes later, i went to find him - he was chatting with another server - and told him to forget about the drink. Then the drink suddenly appeared, Luke warm at best. I told him I no longer wanted it. My wife and I asked about the wedge salad and if it was large enough for us to split. We were assured it was quite large. What were served was the tiniest wedge salad I've ever seen, so tiny I thought it might have been a joke. When the entrees arrived, my wife asked for a glass of Chardonnay. When she was practically done with her entrée, our son had to go looking for the waiter. Finally, the wine appeared. The attitude, the dissmissiveness, the totally inadequate service was more than enough for us to advise diners to take their business elsewhere.

BEEN EATING AT CAPPY'S FOR 48 YEARS

By JohnJosephSAT |

I've eaten at Cappy's regularly for 48 years--since it opened in 1977. Have had countless great meals here but never one that failed to please. Both the food and service are consistently exceptional. This time I tried something new for me, the $27 Mustang Chicken (with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables) which was genuinely terrific.

Repurposed goodness

By Andrew G. Steele |

I’ve dined here twice, both times on business. The restaurant is in an old feed store/general store, (so I was told,) so there is great exposed brick and repurposed space. It’s a great restaurant for a relaxed and nice atmosphere, paired with fantastic food and drink. It may get a little noisy at peak times but there is an upstairs you can request for quieter meetings. The food is delicious and I’ve not had anything bad. Recommended!

Exceptional Food

By Rebekajean |

We came for an early dinner and sat inside in the quiet. The atmosphere outside is more relaxed but inside is enjoyable and out of the wind. It took a while for the waitstaff to come over and she was friendly but not exceptionally attentive considering so few people were dining. I had to hunt down someone to bring more than the small container of butter they put on the table with the bread. Hubby had the swordfish, daughter had the salmon, I had the fish taco's. All were excellent, cooked perfectly, tasty and plentiful. We split the sticky toffee pudding and it was exceptional as well. The atmosphere inside is more bar-like but had plenty of dining seating. Not fond of the hard seats but the food more than made up for all else. We will return.

Good food

By Nelson T |

Excellent meal! I was there a few days ago and I was delighted with the quality of their dishes, I certainly enjoyed a lot and the service is incredible!

Nice food

By MariaKen |

Unexpected. Good food. The restaurant was small but we did not feel crowded. We were with my picky almost 2 year old granddaughter and she liked the salmon dish her mother ordered. We all enjoyed the food and the generous servings.

A fantastic restaurant

By Dave D |

Was in town for the Final Four and I took out my employees for dinner It was excellent great steaks seafood And the coconut cream pie was the best dessert on the planet My goodness Don’t miss this restaurant DD

Amazing cobb salad and bread basket!

By TravelerGirl1989 |

The Cobb salad is amazing! It comes with the house Ranch dressing, which I believe is part of the secret to it being so amazing. The other bonus for me is that while I do eat meat, I tend to use it more as a condiment instead of an entree. This salad has small amounts of bacon and chicken, perfect amounts in my opinion! The bread basket that comes before your order is brought is also fabulous!

Great food, people, and atmosphere

By Mike B |

Excellent food, vibe, people, and we'd come back for any special occasion. The fish is fresh, the selection is more interesting than most places, and everyone seems to be having a great time.

We keep coming back

By Larry R |

When in San Antonio, we usually go to Cappy's. We like most everything on the menu, but love the Prince Edward Mussels. The sauce has to be sopped up with bread to the very end. The changing artwork, good service, relatively quiet dining (at Cappy's, while not totally silent, you can hear everyone at your table) and the excellent food bring us back. The parking is good and you can dine inside or out.

A guaranteed pleasant experience

By plaidaddict |

I was really impressed with this last-minute stop my brother and I made. A review we read advised to get a reservation vs walking in so we did for 20 minutes out. Glad we did!! We had a small wait when we arrived, but nothing disappointing. They have a bar, patio seating, and inside seating. We went for their brunch menu which had an excellent selection. He ordered an egg plate while I ordered a salmon plate. We received quick service which was followed by a starter basket of bread--not bread sticks, rolls, or the like--but rather a variety of fresh, hot bite-size muffins. The wait for our food was reasonable for the busyness and quality we received. The portions left you full, yet not bloated, and we both ate for $40 total. The atmosphere was pleasant while being able to carry an appropriate level of conversation. Wait staff was great. I would highly recommend. You *may* have to find parking a bit out depending on when you go.

Delicious and great service!

By Rebekah L |

Food was delicious, atmosphere was great. So glad we drove here - stayed at Riverwalk and didn't venture outside that area much.

11-30-22

By Vic L |

We ate upstairs and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Server "Marc Anthony"(real name) was very good and really helpful and enjoyable. My wife had a Rose Manhattan which she said was well above the average. After reading previous reviews, I had the Gumbo bowl and was not disappointed, one of the best and not loaded down with broth and rice.My wife had the Halibut special which was excellent. Very good experience.

Great

By james |

Simple but amazing. Food is great, service is great, what else to say, we will be back again soon. Definitely recommend to everyone.

Brunch Saturday

By fairfaxfoodie2 |

On the table came most amazing little scones that were hot and fresh. They were matched with raisin bran muffins that were fantastic as well. I asked the chef for whatever his freshest and best dish and was served a crab-based scrambled egg with cherry sauce and lobster tail that was divine. My husband had The ranch-hand and eggs and herbs polenta and we had to wait for the roast and it was completely worth it. My daughter had the ham and cheese omelette which for a basic dish was also fantastic. The atmosphere is great I do wish they had a little music playing but would definitely come back!

Lovely Lunch !

By dkdoremifaAustin |

What a perfect lunch we had today. Starting with a charming, well informed server, Antonio, everything was served very timely and to perfection. The crab cake , salad and gumbo was very delicious after having a great mimosa and screw driver. The atmosphere is comfortable and very “homey”. We can’t wait to go back and especially to see Antonio again!

Excellent

By Tom S |

Five us dined there on 6/20. Heather provided excellent service of excellent food. We had drinks, appetizers, salads, entree's, and desserts. We shared among us , because we didn't want to miss out on any of the great food. This is the third time I have been there and it continues to be a favorite when I'm in town. I can trust that when I bring clients, the food and service will be excellent.

Price gauge

By Nancy T |

WE ate tat Cappy's on May 6, 2022. The waiter did everything he could do increase our bill. We ordered a $30 bottle of Chardonnay and he said, "The xxx is so much better...". He neglected to tell us that his suggestion was $80, so we were stunned to see our bill thinking that he was just swapping on a parallel price tier. Of course his suggestion on the menu was the highest priced item (anemic halibut with no flavor, priced at $39). To add insult to injury, he tried to rush us out as soon as humanly possible. Twice we asked him to come in five minutes so we could study the menu and both times he was back in less than one. There were five of us and only one had a main course than had any flavor (the chicken with mustard sauce). Terrible service, mediocre food.

The best!

By jean b |

Cappy's has to be one of San Antonio's finest places to eat. We recently took a group of out of town friends there who were in town for a convention. I was able to make reservations and they seated us upstairs with less noise so we could have a nice evening of great food and visitation. Everyone left with smiles on their faces.

No ability to cook

By DayTrip47444670930 |

This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a restaurant and the management. We ordered lamb and halibut. The lamb was so undercooked I could not eat it. The has that came with it was so greasy and salty it was inedible. My wife had the halibut, over cooked on the outside and raw on the inside. A total bill of $186. I WOULD HAVE PREFERRED A TUNA SANDWICH AT HOME. Management was unresponsive and said they would talk to the cooks, the server said the cooks were new. No not a way to handle a fine dining experience gone wrong. Will never eat a Cappys again and will tell our friends to avoid at all costs.

Great for special occations, reservations recommended

By Dewey Owens |

Lots of parking (some on street other in back), HC close to entrance, quaint waiting areas near bar where we had nice wine waiting on our reservation (reservations highly recommended), our visit was to upstairs in quiet area, well served by Alex (an excellent waitstaff member). Had the Prime Rib & Salmon. Excellent meals. Kale salad & gumbo preceding was very good, As it was an anniversary dinner, we received a complimentary dessert which was also great. Topped of with very good coffee and it was a very good experience.

Great Sunday brunch

By cer718 |

Great food along with great service. The breakfast of pancakes, eggs, tenderloin and potatoes was excellent. The mini basket with baked goods was great. The coffee was also very good. Service was great. Mustang chicken was tender and chicken fried salad was huge.

It was OK.

By itzacarla |

They do have an interesting menu I'll give them that. I had the truffle eggs with crab and lobster that was just meh. It's not really your typical "breakfast" menu, it's a little on the fancy side. I would eat there again but would probably go for the more traditional menu items.

By Vic L |

Exceptional dining experience. Very good menu, waitstaff(Joe) was exceptional, nice decor, a little noisy but the food and preparation was well above average. Be sure to try the Shrimp Nachos, it is a great starter.

Chicken worth marrying!

By Meghin F |

My husband and I stopped in during our recent visit to San Antonio and were not disappointed. We ordered off of the brunch menu. My husband got one of the breakfast dishes and said it was delicious. My husband is not one to leave things on his plate, but even he couldn't finish it all. I had the Mustang Chicken, and it is one of the best things I have ever eaten. The chicken was excellent and the sauce they put on top of it was to die for. Even better was the fact that it wasn't just a little drizzle of it, but a ladle full. It was the perfect compliment to the chicken, and I was even dipping the vegetables in it. I still think of this meal several weeks later. If we ever find ourselves in the area again, you better believe I'll be finding my way back.

Cappy's - A San Antonio institution!

By 4max44 |

Cappy's is one of San Antonio's best restaurants. Service is first class and the food in even better! I recommend this place for an outstanding dinner with family and friends.

Don’t waste your time!

By AB214 |

So many places to begin. First, we are from out of state and went to San Antonio for a long anniversary weekend. Let me say that San Antonio has some FANTASTIC food! However, this is not one of them. When we entered the restaurant, we stood there and watched two hostesses and two servers surround the check in stand and have a two minute personal conversation while we just stood there. After being recognized and that it was our anniversary (which I appreciated), they sat us at a table right by the front door and right by the bar where every server and patron had to walk by…very romantic and considerate 🙄. There was an anniversary card on the table, but our server could’ve cared less. He acted like we were doing him a favor by being there. We had one very important change to our order, which he repeated back so we know he heard it. But they got it wrong. We were ignored, however he had time to have a five minute conversation with the table next to us about the theater. We were supposed to get “free dessert” for our anniversary, which is truly a non-issue for us. But it was never offered and we did not want it bc we could not get out of there fast enough! So many better places, better service, and better food in San Antonio!

Great food and service

By 61MSM |

Went to Cappy's for my birthday dinner with family. Food was delicious, service was excellent and atmosphere was pleasant and quiet. Three of us had the specialty of the day of two different fish, and one person had steak. All were very pleased.

Love This Place!

By Jacqueline D |

We have eaten here many times and find the food and service to be outstanding. Consistently excellent and highly recommend.

I can’t wait time go back!

By DD Jackson |

Everything we ordered was delicious...shrimp nachos appetizer (THE BEST!), halibut, and crab cakes. The only thing that left something to be desired was the seafood gumbo. It was lacking seasoning...so much so that my husband only finished half before sending it away with the waiter. Considering that was the only low point in the meal. I can’t wait to return...for those shrimp nachos! Yum!

Very good, and Very consistent

By timv0960 |

Neighborhood gem right here! Great food, great atmosphere. I seem to always get the special. Never disappointed. Very good cocktails also. :-)

Simply divine!!

By Ellen W |

We absolutely loved this eclectic restaurant! Our party of 4 had reservations in a busy Saturday night and were seated promptly and provided excellent service by our waitress, Elizabeth. From starters to desserts, everything we had was so flavorful. The salmon and the tenderloin were cooked to perfection and the warm chocolate cake and sticky toffee pudding was off the charts! This was one of the best meals we had in San Antonio! Thanks for a beautiful evening! The Williams Family

Great food, great service

By stacie k |

We were there for our anniversary on 3/15. It was a great night from the food to the drinks to the dessert. Would recommend to anyone.

Amazing Family Experience!!!

By Ronnise Mitchell |

For a family or 4, fresh from Sea World, we recognized quite fast that we were totally underdressed. However, our waitress Katie never once reminded me of this fact! She IS AMAZING! Never missed a beat in her recommendations, showcasing her personality, or taking care of our needs. If you need some help ordering, GET THE SALMON DISH! (You’re welcome.) There is so much greatness in the dish, be sure to kiss the cook in advance too. Whenever I visit, I will be back here. Oh, the Manhattan Rose… all I needed was one. Quality restaurant with quality people. Worth the experience plus more. Thank you!!!

Adding this to my list

By dallasguyDallas |

Another good restaurant away from the touristy stuff of the Riverwalk. Very nice neighborhood restaurant. Parking can be challenging. The food, drinks and service are worth the wait for a space. The bartender pours a great glass of wine and there are plenty of draft beers to pick from. We had the crab cake for lunch and it was done very well. I don’t like a lot of bread fillings and this did not have that. Could actually see the crab meat with good size chunks. Everyone’s lunch around us looked good. Can’t wait to come back for dinner.

Food and presentation are good; service adequate

By WindyCity2011 |

Disappointing. During the week, this restaurant serves many return & local guests. Again, like a prior visit, we made weeks ahead reservations for a 6 person business group. When we arrived....we were told our table was basically ON the stairs, and "that when regulars call in, they request a very specific table." So even though we reserved a table outside, 3 weeks prior, we were bumped twice, for a "local." OK I have learned my lesson. No more

Unparalled brunch!

By Lynn S |

We had brunch here on Saturday on our 13th anniversary weekend. I had told the restaurant about our anniversary when I booked a table. They not only wished us happy anniversary but offered us free desserts as well. The food was sooo good. My wife had a drum benedict. I had the Texan breakfast -- beef tenderloin, scrambled eggs with Monterrey Jack cheese and hash browns. The hash browns were the best either of us had eaten. The scrambled eggs tasted like Gordon Ramsay's, fluffy and creamy. The steak was perfectly cooked and almost melted in my mouth. For dessert, we were close to full so we chose to split a New Orleans bread pudding which was hot and melted in our mouths. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are big. I would definitely recommend this place.

Must Visit Restaurant!!!! Best in San Antonio

By Cindy Jones |

This is the best restaurant with amazing service!! We wish we had a place this good in Dallas! We were all beyond pleased with our brunch items as well as the craft cocktails. The staff could not be friendlier and the manager heard it was our first time there and sent us free desserts which were the best. I cannot say enough positive things about this restaurant and highly encourage anyone visiting San Antonio to try it out!!

Popular with the locals! Great restaurant away from River Walk

By lovetoteach964 |

Great restaurant away from River Walk. If you want to get away from the touristy area and all the Tex-Mex food, this popular local restaurant has fresh food and decent drinks. They have a parking lot so if you have a car in town it's an easy drive, only a few miles north in a safe part of town. The atmosphere is very casual, the staff friendly, and the service pretty good. We did make reservations and are glad we did as the place was busy for a Wednesday evening. We ordered an old-fashioned and a blueberry martini, which were good drinks. I tried the broccoli-cheddar soup special as it was a bit cool out that night. To be honest, it was heavy on the salt making it difficult to enjoy, but heavy on the cheese as well. Not sure if the cheese was the salty part? The entrees were delicious and more than made up for the salty soup. For my entree, I ordered Salmon with corn and asparagus succotash that came with lobster mashed potatoes. The salmon was cooked perfectly and OMG the lobster mash was amazing with large chunks of lobster throughout. I don't usually like my seafood mixed with other foods, but this was delicious! It wasn't "fishy" at all and my husband helped himself as well since the portion was large. I didn't know what to expect of the succotash as I had never had any before. It was also delicious! My husband ordered the lamb chops which he devoured. I understand why locals like this restaurant so much. Don't be fooled by the low-key decor, the food makes this place a favorite and worth the Uber ride.

A San Antonio Classic

This is my favorite restaurant. Easy to find and service/food/ wine are always wonderful. The service is consistently super.

Excellent dinner

By christa m |

this was our first time to dine at Cappy's. This was the first weekend of Fiesta, so most restaurants were busy. We had an excellent wait staff and the food was very good. The art work captured our interest and prompted much discussion. We had a drink at the bar while waiting on our table as we arrived a little early. As is the case in most restaurants today, the noise level was a little high, making conversation difficult. If it hadn't been so chilly and damp, outside dining looked very inviting.

Sticky Toffee Pudding is AMAZING!

By Suzanne LeShea |

If you are looking for desserts and a delicious meal, Cappy's has an amazing Sticky Toffee Pudding that is out of this world. My family loves the Heights Burger. It has just enough grilled flavor and is served on a homemade bun that has a hint of sweetness. The Jumbo Lump Blue Crab Cake is my favorite. Plenty of crab and the seasoning is well balanced. We have celebrated several occasions like birthdays, Father's Day, and Graduations at Cappy's and the atmosphere is upscale and casually comfortable. It has been serving great food for decades!

Very good brunch!

By Marina B |

I've been here for a brunch. I liked the food, they have a lot of options on the menu (for food and drinks)! The service was veery good too! :)

What a great place!

By WoodlandsGuy01 |

Enjoyed a wonderful anniversary dinner here. Food, service, ambiance are all great, yet extremely comfortable. Nothing pretentious about it, just really good!

Recommend!

By elysiansoul |

A bit tucked away at first glance, a well-designed restaurant to enjoy a meal. The outdoor patio was our favorite. Food presentation (and taste!) was great. Brunch is only available on the weekends. There is parking down the side of the left street from the main road, next to the building.

Oh my the coconut pie

By danidb518 |

Finally tried it on a recent trip. It’s been on our list for a couple of years, LOL. (We usually eat at their sister restaurant, LaFonda) It was nice. Loud inside on a Saturday night. We were celebrating my birthday as well as my friend’s. The 8 tiny shrimp nachos were good. Wedge salad, same as anywhere. Halibut was good, my friend really enjoyed the Mustang chicken, and my husband just said ok, to his pork milanese. We split a lobster, it was good! Having a good waiter always helps and we had a nice young man who was attending college and had only been a server for three weeks! The coconut pie was delicious, crust perfect like old fashion homemade. Chocolate cake was good. Will definitely go back to try other things one day.

Perfect venue to see long-time friends

By M23rdPWR |

We met there for a great dinner, superb wine and great cocktails. The steak was delish as was the lamb chops and the chicken. There's really nothing more that we could have asked for in a restaurant.

MUST TRY IN SAN ANTONIO!!

By Cindy Jones |

Where to begin?! Cappy's is FABULOUS! The food will exceed your expectations and if you are lucky enough to get Marc Anthony, you will have the best service. (I'm sure all the other servers are fabulous!) Great menu and we all ordered something different and felt it was all something better than we had ever had. The cherry on top is they give first time diners a free dessert which are also homemade and fabulous!

Great find

By idrivera64 |

Visiting from out of town didn’t know were to go and my husband found this place, wow were we lucky the food was great we went for dinner and our server Brian couldn’t be nicer, very communicative, friendly and knowledgeable on his recommendations every one of them was on the dot. Our food was excellent from the starters, the soup of the day and our entree were delicious and lets not forget the bread is available upon request so don’t forget to ask for it, our server told us that they bake it fresh every day, but the star of the dinner was the desert warm toffee sticky bread pudding or something like that, we didn’t have much room for dessert but Brian insisted and bought us some, so we did and glad we did because it was the best dessert I ever ate. Great place I can’t recommended it enough.

A WONDERFUL MEAL AT FAIR PRICES

By alaskan_red |

Sitting in the warm evening glow on a delightful patio provided the perfect setting for an outstanding dinner. There is plenty of choice on the menu and our server Justin provided additional detail of the menu choices we were interested in. I chose the Gulf Shrimp with rice and chef vegetables and it was amazing. My wife had the Crab Cake which she said were fantastic. Key Lime Pie seemed the obvious choice for dessert, although there were many other tempting options, but the Key Lime was terrific. In summary, Cappy's is a great choice for anyone visiting or living in San Antonio.

Great every time

By Anna R |

This place is really consistent with the quality of their food, the menu offers different options and all af them are good.

One of my favorite restaurants in the world!

By Tom S |

I live in London and travel frequently to other European countries and South America. Cappy’s is one of my favorite restaurants, and I always look forward to the food, service, atmosphere and warm welcome. On my first trip back to Texas since March, I was delighted to find that Cappy’s has so smoothly adjusted to the COVID restrictions in a seamless and elegant manner.

The Bread Basket is to Die For

By Panda M |

So, before I even ordered I was ruining my appetite with the most scrumptious assortment of breads to cross my palate in a loooonnngg time. Simply amazing! After gorging on bread, I opted for a salad...Chicken Cobb...wow, it was huge and the dressing appeared to be homemade with large chunks of tasty herbs. My husband got pot roast that melted in your mouth with garlic mashed potatoes and fresh veggies. A delightful, filling meal.

Great place for brunch

By robyn wyland |

Where do I start? I called on a Sunday for last minute reservations for a decent size group and they graciously accommodated us, we had the sweetest server Antonio, and the food was great. It's a beautiful location with top-notice service and personable staff. Highly recommend for a Sunday brunch, be sure to save room for their dessert.

Don't Miss in San Antonio

By Marv L |

One of the best meals we have ever had ANYWHERE. i had the fried shrimp. My wife had the halibut (i know that is strange to find in Texas) but she said it was the best ever. I would definitely rate this place a 10

Delicious Food in a Calm Atmosphere

By Anne C |

Cappy's came through again for a great evening with friends. Everyone in our party found their meals delicious. Nice wine list (loved the split of French rose). Although there aren't many items on the menu explicitly meant for special needs diets, the chef is creative and trustworthy in modifying dishes (I can't eat gluten or dairy). The scallops were fresh and perfectly cooked; I had them served with spinach cooked with a broth. I did not miss the butter or other seasonings, as everything was delicious. The indoor ambience is pleasant and among the quietest in town; they were having an exhibit of beautiful floral paintings. When the weather is cool enough, the deck is a great place to eat. The service is professional and friendly, but not obtrusive.

Great Brunch Option

By FredSiegel |

The food here and service is very good. Vibe is nice and it was the perfect place for a brunch in the San Antonio area.

Another memorable meal

By mrmTX |

It’s a nice and comfortable place with inside and deck dining that seems tucked away. The menu is diverse in options and the food was good and well prepared. Very enjoyable dining.

Impressive dinner

By jsprater |

First time at Cappy's. Wife and I really enjoyed the relaxed professional atmosphere. Rob Roy cocktail was disappointing (sweet vermouth overpowered the scotch). Food was excellent. Wife had potato crusted Halibut, and found it to be an outstanding choice. I had the prime rib, and it was good but not up to something special status. Service throughout the visit was top notch. We will return.

Good group dining

By fjmccarl |

Had a business meeting with 9 people and servers were great at explaining the menu, giving recommendations and good service. The food was quite good with a lot of options, had a great evening while getting some business completed.

Mumbo Gumbo

By AirstreamR |

Been before, had other lunch fare, and today it was the Gumbo. Beutious dark spicy rue, blackened fish, shrimp, andouille sausage, absolutely wonderful. Coupled with a Chardonnay. Service by April was superb. Cappy’s is just a continuously great restaurant.

Fine dining in a casual environment

By Tidehawks |

Cappy's offers an elevated dining experience without the stuffy atmosphere. No suit and tie necessary but business casual is accepted or even your weekend jeans and shirts. The food is always amazing, offering a smaller menu with prime rib on fridays and saturdays, a few lamb dishes wish are always amazing, catch of the day plates, and of course your daily specials. The wait staff is well versed in the menu and always pleasant. Everything is cooked to order and prepared in house. Even the key lime will leave you feeling like you took a trip to Florida.

Food is Delicious and Great Service!

By LMK101 |

We were celebrating an anniversary and birthdays at Cappy's. It was the first time sitting upstairs. We had a really nice time. We had the shrimp, the chicken, the mussels and the fish special. All were very good and perfectly prepared. We celebrated with several desserts: carrot cake, warm Texas Sheet Cake with ice cream, and the sticky pudding with ice cream. Loved the Texas Sheet Cake. The sticky pudding was very tasty. While the carrot cake was good, I wished it weren't so cold. The server recommended an apertif pairing with dessert which was spot on. We had the tawny port; an excellent choice! Will definitely go back!

Always the best!!!

Great food & service!!! My husband & I started with a cocktail. He had the Anejo Sour & I had the Raspberry Rose’ Sparkler-both were wonderful! We started off with a crab cake, which was very good. My husband had the Lamb T-Bone which was good & I had the famous Wild Isles Salmon with lobster mashed potatoes-fabulous! Topped it off with the Sticky Toffee Pudding-the BEST dessert anywhere!!! We always eat here when we’re in San Antonio!!!

Hidden Gem but......

By Russell P |

Really enjoyed our meals, halibut and barramundi, asparagus and a salad followed by sticky toffee pudding. My biz friend is from Oz and felt the barra was as good as he’s had! Server was excellent. So why not 5 stars you ask. Well, even with a reservation we were seated by the utensil and chair storage station, which didn’t really get active until we were dining. Place setting after place setting was dropped/pushed off the counter by one butterfingered gal. Chairs were dragged behind us several times, felt like were dining at a fumble fingered moving co. If I was Cappy’s owner I’d skip that table, if I dined there again, I’d refuse that table. Definitely 5 stars with a dif table!

Great food in a warm environment

By dustythoughts |

We were lucky enough to find a reservation for the time and day we wanted, because this super popular restaurant was fully booked by the time we arrived! It advertises itself as upscale yet casual, and the atmosphere definitely fits that description. The staff were professional, friendly, and welcoming, with none of the pretense that one sometimes finds at more upscale restaurants. Our waiter was friendly and made sure we never ran out of water, which we appreciated, as we both drink a lot of water. While the menu isn't as big as some restaurants, every dish is prepared with obvious care. We ordered the salmon and the chicken, and both were superb. Great food in a warm environment.

Great neighborhood place! Yum!

By 462henryd |

The sandwich soup combo is great! The Asian salad is a little spicy so make sure you have something to drink to cool off! Service could have been a little better since I would run out of water and the waitress seemed not to look over at our table? Had to call her over to get more to drink... The food is great and you can't beat it for lunch.

Great Restaurant!

By Steve F |

We’ve been blessed to eat many fine meals all over the world, none better than Cappy’s. Other reviews led us there and we weren’t disappointed. The little things, like the bread stand out, but I had the diver scallops served on a bed of modi go and topped with foie gras. Out of this world!!!! My wife had the wild salmon on a bed of lobster mashed potatoes. She is difficult to impress, but she raved about it. Good service and low key atmosphere.

One word: Delicious!

By RNin210 |

As a native San Antonian - I can't believe I hadn't tried this place sooner! It is a not so hidden gem. My husband and I have made reservations on OpenTable for our last two visits for a seamless experience. We came for a weeknight date night dinner and returned for my Mom's birthday dinner and both times have had a wonderful meal. We've tried the jumbo lump crab cake as an appetizer - very tasty and full of crab instead of the typical fillers. We've had the mustang chicken, beef tenderloin, Out of the Blue (the fish special of the day), and the lamb special - they were all absolutely delicious! My husband and Mom enjoyed the red wine selection, I enjoyed their cocktails (wonderful hot toddy!) and my dad tried the craft beer on tap. During our first visit we were given a dessert on the house for being first timers. For my Mom's birthday they let her choose a dessert on the house. Wow! We have had wonderful service and friendly servers during both our visits. It is easy to see why this restaurant is always so busy. This restaurant is a new favorite of my entire family.

Perfect for lunch

Great service. Lots of choices - we made two excellent choices: chicken salad. The homemade gingerale was amazing. Parking was a bit challenging.

Best Restaurant of our Trip!

By susanwmt |

We were in town for the Final Four and wanted something different than around the Riverwalk. Found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and made reservations. BEST restaurant that we visited in the 5 days we were in San Antonio. It's such a cute eclectic comfy vibe with excellent service. Lindsey was a great server - friendly and knew the menu well. I had Mustang Chicken, and my friends had Mussels, Mahi Mahi, and Salmon. All were delightful. Make sure you save room for the Sticky Toffee Pudding and Coconut Cream pie. I would come back here again and again. Don't miss out!

Great meal, great service!

By James S |

This is a quiet, upscale, excellent restaurant in a quaint, older neighborhood. It is owned and operated by a local restaurateur who has owned several other dining venues in San Antonio spanning several decades. Lots of variety to the menu, a great wine list and a quiet atmosphere makes this dining establishment a favorite among San Antonio locals as well as visitors.

Dinner w friends

Cappy’s is reliable and has very well prepared food. Servers are knowledgeable about the entrees and attentive without being annoying. Decent wines and full bar. Often eat seafood here and it is always fresh and delicious. They do nice lunches as well

Great option in San Antonio!

By surf_golf |

I really enjoyed my visit to Cappy’s. The food was delicious, the Mustang Chicken is definitely a must. The service was excellent as well.

Consistent

By wsr55 |

This is one of the most consistent restaurants in San Antonio. Never have had a bad meal. Some of the best fried oysters and shrimp that I have ever had. We’ll continue to go back.

Crepes!

By Deatra T |

My favorite place in town for crepes. They make them the old fashioned way on a huge griddle. I recommend the lemon drop. Sweet but with a hint of tang, just perfect. Try the elk burger with the tomato relish, wonderful!

Excellent food, service, we will be back!

By Geeky U |

It was my birthday and my boyfriend's as well since we have our birthdays around the same time in April, one after the other. We went to Cappy's from my researching places to go in San Antonio and it was our first time. I reserved a table on OpenTable and check in and seating was fast and easy. We had Taylor who took great care of us, fantastic and on top of everything we needed. He had the special lamb chops with Tikki Masala, I had the prime rib. Both were delicious, bread was hot and fresh, and then dessert was fantastic with him getting the sticky pudding (it's their specialty) and I got the creme brulee. Both were great, sticky pudding I'll definitely be back to try and get next time. We got old fashioned drinks which were strong and well done, just everything was delicious, we were well taken care of, we'll be back. Taylor did an amazing job waiting on us and I'd recommend her for sure!

Excellent Meal. Great People!

By Kathy F |

Local friends raved about Cappy's, saying it was the best place ever. We (2 couples) went early without a reservation. We had drinks at the bar next door and were soon seated on the patio. Great Environment. The menu choices were great. And the food was excellent. The Mustang Chicken was SO special! And the burgers and appetizers were great. Definitely 5 stars1

First time and good experience

By L H |

Several of us met for lunch here during the week and a few had not been here before. It was easy to locate but the entrance was in the back patio area. There are two parking areas so parking was no issue, especially for an early lunch. The outside patio is smaller with metal tables. The inside area has several rooms for seating including and upstairs. The bathrooms were located upstairs but don't know if another might be available for handicap. We had reservations and were seated immediately even arriving a little early. The tables are not socially distanced but still room to maneuver. Our table was already set with water, paper menus and silverware when we arrived. The waitress took our drink orders quickly. They have a good wine list with by the glass pricing starting at $9 and most in the $12 and up range for a small pour. The lunch menu has a nice selection of choices and our orders consisted of Cobb Salad which was an ample serving of mixed greens, avocado, bacon bits, boiled egg, cheese, tomato and chopped grilled chicken. Also ordered by others was the Cran-Turkey Sandwich which was on toasted bread with a layer of cranberry-citrus relish, swiss cheese and a good amount of turkey and a large amount of lemon pepper chips. This was a hearty meal. Lastly ordered was a Turkey Cobb Sandwich again came on a toasted bread with bacon, swiss cheese, tomato, and guac along with chips. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food and it was presented very well. One mentioned at a previous visit she had the Mustang Chicken and it was really delicious. The place filled up really fast closer to noon and stayed that way until we left. There were plenty of wait staff as well. The noise level was not too bad for the amount of people. I consider this place a high end casual dining experience and would try it again if ever in the area since it is a distance from where I live. I was told it has been here for some time and consistently a good experience.

Totally Outstanding!

By Tom H |

My wife and I ate here in September 2019 on recommendations from Trip Advisor. We had the good fortune to visit San Antonio again in September 2022 so without any hesitation we booked to eat here again before flying back home to the UK the next day. We both had exactly the same meal that we had previously - the halibut and mustang chicken. Don't know how they managed it but it was just as good, if not better, than the first time. If we ever have the chance of visiting again - this would be the first restaurant we book.

Consistently Quality Food and Service

By Debra R |

Cappy's has such consistency of food and service. It is a great place for meetings, friends, celebrations. They have a really good cosmo and some nice wines!

Disappointingly Average

By angela r |

We expected more! When something is rated so highly on trip advisor you expect something great. For a start our server was miserable, maybe he doesn’t like tourist ? We had the crab cake as a starter which was just ok, a little on the dry side and not massively tasting of crab. For a main I had the mustang chicken and my husband had the burger. Both dishes were average. Whilst the server came and checked in us every now and then we really felt like we were an inconvenience to him. We totally can’t work out why this place is so highly rated . Wasn’t worth the trip from downtown to get there
