A Magnificent Taste of Sicily

By ratnob |

This restaurant was recommended to us by the driver of the water taxi who brought us in by boat to Fisherman's Wharf. And how right he was - this is a place run with brilliant efficiency and creating the most mouthwatering, satisfying food. The front-of-house manager, Flavia, is most definitely in charge and she gave us great advice on the menu - eat crab. So we did. We had roasted crab in an amazing sauce, with a simple salad, and all washed down with a beautiful Napa Valley Chadonnay. She treated us to a naughty limoncello at the end, before we drifted off into the Californian sunshine. I can't recommend this place highly enough - a restaurant run by a family who have been part of San Francisco for four generations. Don't go to the corporate places down the street. Go here. It's fabulous.

VEGAN MENU !!!!!

By CDog85 |

Fantastic evening meal at this place which had its own Vegan menu. They just need a big sign outside to say they have a Vegan menu, almost missed it but thanks to the ‘happy cow’ app, we found it: The wait staff (on a busy evening) where amazing. The owner even on the floor chatting to the tables making sure everything was in order. Brilliant!

Nice friendly service and lunch

By Gail G |

We wanted a light lunch and stopped here for fish tacos which were delicious. The service was very friendly and the restaurant is in a good location.

We wanted seafood for lunch and was just wandering around. We came to Capurro's and the outside decor drew us in. They were not busy at all and we were seated right away. Our waiter took good care of us, but we did have to ask for refills on our drinks. We ordered the fish and chips and it was very good. Not overly greasy and the fries were pretty tasty. We also ordered the crab sandwich and and order of chicken alfredo. There was 5 of us and we all ordered a soft drink and our bill came to $135.23. Pretty high for lunch. We walked down the street a few blocks and found the same type of food on their menu board for half of the price we paid here. It was good, quick and we did enjoy it, but if you are on a budget....keep looking.

very good dinner

By fatkidfromcanada |

After a long walk we happened upon this place. There was a small but vibrant bar area, had a couple of drinks and enjoyed it. Then we had dinner in the restaurant, it was very good overall, lots of tasty selections for our group. Service was also fantastic throughout.

Fast and Yummy

By HunBabe |

Stopped in for traditional fish and chips and bread bowl of clam chowder. Quick, friendly service staff. Very good food, good sized portions. Glad we stopped in during our visit to the SF Maritime Historical Park.

Just Right

By Phil P |

We had a large group of 30 people. The service was great as was the food. I think this would be great for couples.

Great!

By José N |

At first it may look as a regular more of the same restaurant, however the staff is great, they really know their menu top to bottom, their recommendations are worth it, specially the daily specials which include catch of the day and more. The food is just awesome and the portions are big enough for two... or just one if you want to really have good food. Pastas, seafood, appetizers, they were all great!!

Great food and service

By nicolaL161193 |

We were offered a table but asked to be moved to table by the window, this was not a problem. Service was quick and friendly and my food was delicious with a few “creatures” I’d never tried before. Overall lovely restaurant although a little chilly. I would definitely return.

Very tasty

By lastword2016 |

We had dinner here on our first day, and very much enjoyed the experience. I had the pasta with chicken and the Alfredo sauce, which was very tasty, washed down with a refreshing cold beer. We had a window table, which was nice. The service was friendly and helpful throughout. I thought the cost was a bit steep, especially with various taxes and gratuity added on, but people tell me it’s an expensive city!!

Fabulous Seafood

By Sachin K |

This restaurant is located near the fisherman’s wharf in San Francisco. There are varieties of food options including sea food preparations for anyone to choose from. It is a casual dine in restaurant with a cozy and comfortable ambiance. Service is courteous and food is delicious. Food is freshly made and served quite fast after the order is placed. A great restaurant to have lunch. Would very highly recommend to anyone.

Nice, Relaxing Chowder Option

By mshapiro99 |

I hate to see an empty restaurant, but recovery from COVID-19 has been slow, and Fisherman's Wharf was practically deserted during our recent visit to San Francisco. We stopped into Capurro's, at the North end of Fisherman's Wharf, to find a nearly-empty restaurant that was dying for people to serve. Had a great conversation with the manager about the local economy. Ordered, seated in the large dining room, and then quickly served beautiful hollowed sourdough loaves filled with thick clam chowder. Attentive staff checked on us periodically, and we thoroughly enjoyed or visit and meals.

Very nice early dinner

By James V |

Visited one afternoon for an early dinner. The restaurant was not busy indoors but the outdoor patio seating was busy . The clam chowder my partner had was delicious but my dinner sald was just ok , smothered in dressing . The whole baked crab was huge and served in a sauce for dipping the wonderful French/Italian bread. The wine list is not huge but we chose a nice chardonnay to enjoy with the crab . The crab could have had much more garlic and lemon , which would have really given the dish more flavor. But we did finish !!! Our server Flavia was so entertaining and so pleasant , we thoroughly enjoyed her service she provided which was excellent . The other servers and bus persons are also quite effecient ..a shout out to Ramiro who knows his job so well . The dessert we chose was a chocolate cake or mousse which was good but we were so full from the huge crab we could not finish . We are not tourists but we love to visit the fisherman's wharf occassionaly and we do like to visit Capurros's . Thanks to Flavia , she made time to visit and chat making our dinner memorable . She is definitely an asset to Capurro's .

Great location, great food

By anjip_3 |

Had drinks here when we first arrived in San Francisco Headed back for some lunch after a day sightseeing at Alcatraz Had the chowder & salad combo which at under $15 is fantastic in this area, happy hour between 3&6pm Service was fantastic too

It’s ok

By flipflop525 |

The place looks to be an old institution. Had a clam chowder which was delicious. Service was friendly. Only thing is that the outside places for lunch are on the side there is no view. Would recommend to out dine bigger umbrellas in front which would give some more shade!

Great Food & Reasonable Prices

By SharonB231 |

This was our first meal in San Francisco and it did not disappoint. Ambiance was very nice and restaurant was clean. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was great and prices were reasonable.

Favorite Restaurant on Trip

By James S |

We stayed in the Fisherman's Wharf area for one week and came back to this restaurant 3 times. The food was delicious - everything we had there was good, the crab, pasta, soup, pizza - all. It's true that the service and greeting are more low-key/european (the hostess is Italian) but is perfectly fine and again the food is fantastic.

Good to sit inside or out

By Peter L (exciled Geordie) |

Busy bustling restaurant, with slick staff and a good menu. Well cooked and presented food Also convenient as opposite our hotel

Different but not bad

By Johnny F |

It was okay. Cafeteria ordering. Hot food, decent taste. Was not what we were expecting. Different setup than what we expo.

Outstanding North Beach Italian/seafood restaurant

By SFDANR |

Wonderful old style San Francisco Italian and Seafood restaurant. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was delicious. The fish (we had snapper) was fresh and beautifull prepared. (They also have sand dabs). They just got in fresh crab, which was delicious. The chef handrolls ravioli, using his grandmother's 100 year old roller-exquisite taste. The owner comes from an old Italian family. We will definitely come again

Best gluten free pasta

By Ileana Alfaro |

Craving crab, shrimp and chowder but also gluten free we find this restaurant. The super friendly attention, they even showed us pictures of the dishes to give us an idea. The pasta was made to my liking. And they pleased me with lemons, salt and San Pellegrino for my michelada craving. I haven't tried a richer seafood paste!

THE WORST SRRVICE IN THE WORLD

By Hector G |

The hostess very respectful with my and my family She told me if you don’t like it you can live the door is over there. I can believe it that exist this Kind of persona and service I don’t recommended at all Promise

Ordinary

By d_jones25 |

The Argonaut hotel recommended this place but this can’t have had anything to do with the quality of food or service. Both are ordinary, not good & not terrible. You can do better, walk past!

No bad

By edwinner25 |

nice restaurant and decoration. they have promotions on the main board (example snapper $14.99).... but be ready because no side is included. The concept is different, you order and pay the food at the bar and you wait for the food in your table. the food is ok, no more than that.

Was the gnocchi meal I was looking for!

By goldenparadox |

I had decided on Italian for dinner and switched to this restaurant last minute when I walked by and browsed the menu. Homemade gnocchi is one of my favorites. Their gnocchi is very soft. I had the pesto sauce and added chicken. It was a decent portion size, although for the price I'd expect a little more. (Entree of Pesto chicken gnocchi, garlic bread and a glass of wine, $50.) At the very least it should come with bread or salad. If you want bread you have to buy it. Besides being a little pricey, it's counter service-- you order at the bar-- and then they bring it to you at your seat. Seems like a bit of an expensive restaurant to do it this way. What suffers is the service because there's no one really walking around asking you how everything is or refilling drinks, etc. But they still ask you to leave a tip-- starting at 18% when you place your order and pay.

Good food

By piper77 |

Visited here twice. The food is very good. Reasonable priced, it's a nice place to relax and enjoy good food. Staff are very friendly. The only thing I didn't like, was we were asked if we would like dessert etc. On the one hand and waitress had the bill made up in the other hand, felt a bit rushed too be honest, it would have been better to ask if we were finished before coming over with the bill

Excellent

By aarono364 |

My initial plan was to go to the blue mermaid which is opposite Capurro’s. However I find them arrogant so I came to this restaurant. I am glad that I made this decision. The staff in Capurro’s is friendly and efficient. They also have the special lunch menu which I found is value for the price. This place is quite crowded compare to blue mermaid and the reason behind it is obvious which is the staff. I would recommend this restaurant anytime 😊

Amazing Crab

By Peter C |

Dropped in for lunch with a friend on Sunday afternoon, & for me it was a return I’d been looking forward to. Capurro’s is on the waterfront next to Hyde St Pier with views of Alcatraz & the Golden Gate. It’s also very close to the end of the line on the Hyde St Tram. It’s a lovely red wooden building, very distinctive & attractive from the outside. Capurro’s is only a 10 or 15 minute walk from Pier 39 but feels calmer & much less touristy. The interior is quirky and well worn but has atmosphere. The staff are friendly. The menu is good but in three visits I haven’t progressed beyond clam chowder, roast crab and homemade tiramisu. All excellent - but the crab is truly memorable. Fresh, juicy and full of flavour. Not to be missed on a visit to San Francisco.

Fabulous Surroundings and a First Class Meal

By Randy L |

This is a place to e-mail your friends about who are planning on a San Francisco trip. Located on the western edge of the wharf area near the Maritime Museum, the staff was very attentive and the food was beyond exceptional. This is a gem!

Hostess should have been the first clue

By AlwaysHopeful419 |

Went to grab a quick bite around 1:30 pm. The hostess was miserable. She was not friendly at all, was too busy putting on makeup at the hostess table and just was unengaging. The waitress was very nice and attentive. The food was meh. Overpriced with little flavor. I would not go there again.

Last Night in San Francisco

By John D |

We chanced along this gem. We were seated inside as requested. Our server Debbie was excellent, explaining all the specials. All of our courses were spot on.The restaurant was very busy, and you could see how well it was organised.Fantastic buzz , all the customers looked as if they were all enjoying. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff. We both wished we had found this place earlier on our trip. Excellent

Disappointing

By illiniboy10 |

We came here on the recommendation from our hotel which obviously recommended because of coupons they handed out. Food was ok, not anything I’d recommend. I got 1/2 dungeoness crab and my wife Crab cake. Neither came with any sides and portions were tiny. Thank god for the bread. We both had to eat within an hour from a street vendor and this was the most expensive meal all weekend. If we wanted fine dining we would have opted for that and the table next to us complained about the blandness of their chicken parm. This place had vinyl red/white checkered table cloths so shouldn’t have been as pricey for that decor!

I’m still thinking of here

By charlie_calamarii |

I’d just like to say... I visited here 10 months ago and the meal I had here is still my favourite meal ever. I legit am disappointed I live in the UK and can’t have it often. One day I will return for it... so yeah you should probably give this a try if you’re visiting San Fran

Empty Yet our hotel told us to book

By christopher s |

We walked through the door for a 7pm booking and the place was empty , our front of house hotel desk told us it was a fantastic restaurant so we went will high hopes , after a short time two other table had people , its a large establishment with lots of tables , on our night there it was very cold so we had to keep our coats on during dinner , the meal was OK nothing to rave about the starter shrimp cocktail and a fish/ seafood chowder was OK and pricey , we found much better places to eat not far away for the rest of our weeks stay , to add because there was few dinners our food was served very quick and we were only there 45 minutes .

Disappointed with a return visit

By MrGreenHampshire |

Still a great location but poor bar service. No table service for drinks and a bar man that can’t cope and serves friends and locals before anyone else. $22 for a glass of wine and a beer, bit steep but more so when you don’t get table service and have to deal with staff who can’t be bothered...

Crab is in season!

By M L |

Always enjoyable at this Fisherman's Wharf restaurant. Great service, delicious food (try the crab when it's in season), generous portions. Reasonably priced cocktails for San Francisco. Will be back again next time I'm in town!

Very good food in a casual atmosphere, reasonable prices.

By Sharon G |

Had fresh snapper, blackened, with a lemon butter caper sauce over split cherry tomatoes. It was absolutely delicious! My drink was an Aperol Spritz. Both were very reasonably priced.

Great food!

By Lglmt |

Really enjoyed the food and a lovely atmosphere! It was fairly close to our hotel in the Fisherman’s Wharf area on the water. We had dinner there again the next night!

Solo visit

By MassachusettsDavid |

I went here solo during a business trip. Being solo the outdoor seating was nice since there is so much happening in that area and there was some live music nearby. I got a seafood dish that was really good. The trip overall was well worth it, if anything the portions could have been a bit larger but very tasty food!

Starting Vacation

By traveling |

This is the first day of our vacation and 37 of us entered the Capurro's restaurant which was previously planned by our Directions tour guide and everyone was served in a expedient time frame. The food was very good, three selections. The owner came over and talked with everyone and appreciated our business.

DO NOT GO!

By Tracie S |

This was the worst dinner choice made on our vacation! We went to celebrate my husband's birthday while on vacation in San Fransico. I should've known we would have problems when it took forever to be acknowledged once we were seated. When I finally received a glass of water, the glass was filthy dirty. After what felt like forever and still no server came by, I asked another server to get ours and he said something quickly to me that I totally didn't understand. Eventually he cane and we ordered; my husband had the salmon which was absolutely horrible. It was thin and very very dry after my husband ordered medium. It looked old and overdone. My marguerita pizza was disgusting. I don't know what they soak the tomatoes that was on top of the pizza in but it was just gross! Pricing was average for terrible food! When we told the server how bad it was, all he did was apologize and didn't offer to take anything off of the bill. After a full day of travelling from Toronto and walking for 4 hours, we wanted a decent meal but this was disappointing at best. Nothing good to say about this place! We celebrated my husband's birthday the next night at a much better restaurant called Original Joe's.

Nice Italian/fish restaurant

By lou181818 |

We had a nice lunch of fish & chips and meatball paninis. Order at the bar. Good nautical decor. Chose as one of the first restaurants we came across and pleased with our decision to go in. Recommend.

Lunchtime

By Waidesworld |

Good quick lunch here with oysters and fish tacos. They have a happy hour bar menu and a knowledgeable bartender. Reasonable pricing and a decent beer selection.

Great local place!

By Dulce_NMTurtle |

This is a great restaurant! We were visiting San Francisco and really enjoyed this place. Low key, lots of locals there greeting each other. Good sign. The food was great We had hush and chips and fish tacos. Very fresh, not overcooked, very nicely lightly breaded and seasoned. We'll go again next time we're in town!

Excellent restaurant and bar.

By NurseMel |

Popped in for a meal as looked lovely. Was not disappointed. We had been staying at the Argonaut hotel opposite and really wished we had discovered this amazing restaurant sooner. Lovely welcome . Was told that we had to order at the bar then find a table, which was not a problem. Resturant was empty when it really shouldn’t be, because it’s such a lovely place. Great food and local beers and brilliant staff. Thank you .

Excellent!

By Mark H |

We had an awesome evening at Cappurro's. It is an excellent place to have a few beers with friends. We pigged out on very reasonably priced bar food which was excellent. Highly recommended.

Nothing Special

By Trixie1953 |

Nice place, friendly staff, but the food is just average. Nothing really special that would wow you. The highlight was the sourdough bread.

Great Value for Money

By Sachin K |

Located close to all main attractions in San Francisco, unique inside ambiance, friendly service, several choices of food items, delicious foods at reasonable pricing are the reasons for my rating of this restaurant. Certainly would very highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Real gem of a restaurant

By Getaway798488 |

Anyone looking for a fine food and service should definitely visit here. Being a local guy i can tell you this is one of the best restaurant in this area .

Great food, super staff and reasonably priced!! Highly recommend!!

By s j |

Great fresh food, super friendly service and reasonably priced, highly recommend. Clean tidy restrooms and nice stocked bar!

Good recommendation

By DVPA |

We were recommended the restaurant by our hotel, so gave t a try. It was not very full but got great service and a good meal. It's a seafood place, with lots of different dishes to try. The dabs were good, and something new for us to sample. Nice atmosphere and and enjoyable time was had by all.

Traditional Italian

By LadyRekkas |

Chowder was delicious. Calamari was delicious - small, fresh, and lots of it. Pizza was authentic, although a bit soggy due to all the oil. Service was slow - took forever to get our bill and payment processed. Was it good? Yes. Would I go back? Probably not.

Good Food...

By izsmom |

We were able to get reservations at the last minute and the place was crowded, but we were seated right away. The service was ok, but we didn't have a waiter assigned to our table I'm not sure if she was the hostess or manager, but she took our orders and did the serving with the help of the busboy/attendant. She was a bit rude at times. The food was pretty good. My husband and one of my sons had the clam linguini and they both enjoyed it. My other son had the fish and chips and he said it was tasty. I had the ribeye steak and it was good. The tiramisu was delicious.

Happy hour

By jenandfriends2016 |

Delicious small plates and the house wine is quite nice. $7 plates (I had mussels and fish tacos) and service was friendly and quick.

Way to high priced

By Fabregaas |

I‘d definitely not recommend this restaurant. It was one of the bad choices we made during our stay. Due to the price we expected the food to be good but infact it was not more than average. Nothing really special. What was way worse than that is the fact that you only get small portions of that average food. If this would be a high quality restaurant then I wouldn’t even criticise those portions but its just not.

Best of The Wharf

By skip m |

We stopped here dinner our second night in town and it was so good we came back the next night also. We were greeted at the door with a smile and a warm welcome. The waiter was great and the food tasted like mama used to make. The soup was home made and delicious the sauce was mmmmm good.

Great real crab!

By jdcardena |

The crab was awesome, the food was really good and the service was also good. I had a really great Cesar salad with crab and it had a lot of crab. Very recomended place.

THE WORST CALAMARI EVER AND TERRIBLE FISHERMANS WHARF EXPERIENCE!

By Dawn Z |

The Calamari App was Soooo Overcooked! and uN-Edible! You Must order with the "bartender" aka' host behind the station when you arrive. "Not a Real Restaurant Experience, Be For=Warned. At Cappurros, YOu cannot be served like a normal restaurant! You have to order the the "bartender" and then bring your own drinks to the table. The bartender/ . YOU CANNOT BE SERVED LIKE A NORMAL RESTAUARANT HERE!1 SO OVER PRICED, FOOD IS NOT AS WHAT IT SHOULD BE AT FISHERMANS'S WHARF AND THE THE """BAR'""" HAS VERY LIMITED ALCOHOL, LACK OF KNOWLEDEGE. SUPPY AND THEY DONT KNOW HOW / OR ARE UNWILLING TO EVEN MAKE BASIC DRINKS.!!

Nice find

By 27worldtraveler |

I have lived in San Francisco for 30 years but had never been here. I had out of town guests. After walking we needed a quick but satisfying drink and meal. That is just what we found. All of us, ages mid 30 to mid 60 were satisfied. Out waitress moon? was attentive and sweet. The 1/2 crab sandwich on very good sourdough with New England clam ( I prefer manhattan were both delicious. Wine and beer list. We were all very happy and satisfied. It is very near the CA museum (across the road one block) and Hyde cable car and ghiardelli square. It is much more peaceful and quiet and less expensive than Pier 39.

Great Fisherman's Wharf Seafood Luncheon

By USNTraveler |

Their friendly hostess met us on the sidewalk, explained their menu, and described their daily fresh catch crabs. We had luncheon specials of 1/2 a crab sandwich and a seafood chowder. The crab was fresh, as described, and very well presented. The indoor décor was colorful and informal. Conveniently located on Fisherman's Wharf.

Love, love, love this restaurant!

By Traveltaler |

My husband and I take our daughters to San Francisco every year at Christmastime. It's an annual tradition for us and would not be complete if we didn't eat dinner at Capurro's. Every year we have the crab and every year we are not disappointed but this year was so far the best yet. Really, really delicious crab and a generous portion. The bread served before your meal is fresh sourdough, we had the calamari appetizer which was cooked to perfection, then choice of clam chowder or salad, then crab! The clam chowder was superb as well. Just delicious all around. Our waiter was excellent and attentive. Love the atmosphere of this place. If you want a good crab dinner, I highly recommend this place! You won't be disappointed.

Great food and great people

By Federico J |

Delicious crab pasta and great barman named eduardo, friendly staff and great atmosphere here and drinks

Slow Service

By RugbyMadKiwi |

We chose this place because we needed a quick lunch because of our upcoming tour, we asked the girl and she said yes of course we can serve you quickly but waited for 15 minutes for someone to come to our table to take our food order and thought if service is this slow what is it like waiting for food so had no choice to walk out rather than miss our tour. The girl didn't care at all and they were not at all busy !

Great location and food

By 551RobP |

Would recommend as authentic food and good service at reasonable cost in great location. Stands out as long term business which serves real food

Average Capurro's

By Tara P |

We were really drawn to this place by the outdoor seating area (good for people watching) and the menu (nice selection). We waited for the hostess to seat us and said we'd like to be outside. She took us to the side of the restaurant (we had hoped for the front which lured us in and knew there were open seats) and placed us at the very last table in the very back. Ummm … okay, strange. We asked if maybe it'd be possible to sit in front instead. Her response was that they didn't have any tables available. When we said we saw several empty tables, she almost seemed offended and spouted off some strange remarks which were unnecessary. Eventually, she took us to a table at the front but by that time it had kind of ruined the experience before we could even get to the food. We should've just left then, but we were hungry, and she's only one person. The waiter was nice enough. I ordered the fish tacos and my bf got the red clam chowder and shrimp panini. The drinks and food came out in a timely fashion. It was good. The portion sizes did seem to be a bit lacking for the price; however, the area the restaurant is in has to be considered. Overall, the experience was average. While it is a great place to sit outside and people watch, you can do that for free down the street. I'd say save your money and go somewhere else.

Charming Place with great Chowder

By colombiajan |

We almost missed the best clam chowder in a sour dough bread bowl but luckily we found Capurro's on our last evening in San Francisco. The chowder and the bread bowl were delicious and we also like the atmosphere of the place. the staff were all friendly. I actually loved everything about it and would recommend it to anyone visiting San Francisco.

Great location, attentive staff and supurb food

By lowfar |

Was pretty quiet on the day we visited. Had a late lunch, iced water brought immediately and then very attentive, friendly wait staff. Snapper for me and pasta for the man of the house, fresh, excellent quality and delivered in a very short time. Can these people make Cappuccino YES, one of the best I've had. Owner walked outside with us and chatted and we compared the price of Australian and States seafoods. Nice.

Walk on by ….

By Dave C |

How do you screw up a pizza ??? Ask the chef at Capurro’s - how you burn the base and make the top so soggy it was inedible is a mystery to me. Not cheap and even though I was hungry - I had to leave the pizza. I suppose I should have realised when we had to order the food at the bar and therefore pay in advance. My advice is walk on by …. Awful

Good food, great location

By Amy C |

The afternoon we arrived we were looking for somewhere quickly to eat and we were recommended this restaurant by our hotel. The service was extremely efficient. And the menu was vast. Lots of options and all different varieties of food. I had the pesto gnocchi and added the crab to it. It was really good. So tasty. The pesto was homemade by the restaurant. My friend had the three fish and chips. This dish was extremely tasty as well but it was huge. You could really have shared this between two people. But I would go back here again.

Good! Suggested

By Rafael Santos |

Good place ! I ate a salmon and pasta. Very good. The waiters are very hospitality. Good price too and good location .

Great Service

By Mainsailhr |

In San Francisco you have to go to Fisherman's Wharf. Capurro's was our first night, and it really set the stage for a great vacation. It wasn't busy since we were there early for dinner, but even with that said, we were treated like the most important customers to ever come in the door. The waiter recommended sand dabs for me and was meticulous in making sure that my wife met her diet's needs. Wonderful food. Even talked to the owner who was pleasant and he obviously cared about his establishment.

This place is underrated---dungeness all the way!

By jeff m |

I can imagine, but didn't try other items, it was all about the crab for me this trip. I went early as I am jetlagged from ATLanta, giving me more care in the serving, but the people I met were genuine, down to earth and the place has a cool - little bit of sicily ambience. Yes, it's in the tourist zone. But who cares. It's about the crab. I ordered the whole dungeness and it was simply amazing. I honestly do not know if it was the crab or the sauce that it was placed in, but it was a dive-in-the bowl kind of meal, my hands were covered, but that was the most fun I've had eating since Alaska. It was tasty, perfectly cooked and wow tasty. I really do think this place is underrated and I would go back gladly again. It was priced reasonably for what I got. Thank you!

Saturday lunch

A welcome smile at the door, a real warm welcome. Came hear 2 year's ago the food was excellent then and still excellent now. Would and will always recommend to everyone who is coming to San Francisco.

Tour ending

By Craig G |

After the end of our 15 day tour I was looking forward to a final meal together & was totally disappointed. We were rushed in & out in only an hour & that was eating a 3 course meal! Pre-booked meals were shoved out in a hurry & as soon as the plate was finished, the next was dumped down. What looked like the manager was very rude & lacked any service at all. She was Italian & the Italian speaking people in our group, stated she swore constantly at her staff in Italian!!! Very unprofessional & not recommended!!! Average food

Delicious, light Italian lunch

By LHS329 |

We stopped here for lunch and were not disappointed. My husband had the sauteed sand dabs, which was a new dish for us. He had a side of the cannellini beans with sauteed vegetables. All of it was delicious. The sand dabs were sauteed in butter, wine, lemon and capers and were crispy deliciousness. The cannellinis had garlic, oil oil, oregano and fresh zucchini all served together. Perfect. I had their chowder in a bread bowl and it was great. Every bite was a mouthful of clams. And, we had the house chianti and pinot. There is a nice outdoor eating area, they check vaccination cards, and require masks when not eating. A great lunch

Family trip in July

Capurro's - My First Visit to San Francisco

By RTGJ |

I recently visited San Francisco for the first time. When I booked the trip I failed to recognize that it was the American Thanksgiving. That presented some obstacles on November 28th as far as finding places to eat. Lots of places were closed. On November 29th I had been walking for a good chunk of the day. In the afternoon I walked from Market Street up Van Ness Avenue to the Maritime Museum. I arrived around 3:00 pm. At that location a very nice person who worked there told me all about the local eating places and sights. I was starving having had a minimal breakfast and no lunch. The woman in the Museum told me about the In-N-Out Burger place on Jefferson Street. I started to head there when I came across Capurro's Restaurant and Bar at the same time as a family of 4 or 5 persons. A person who seemed to be a manager at the restaurant was standing out front telling us about authenticity of the food in her restaurant. She was so persuasive that I decided to have a meal there, as did the earlier-mentioned family. The lunch specials were still available and I decided to have the Seafood Clam Chowder Bread Bowl with Caesar Salad. This was a great choice. My meal came within ten minutes. The person who took my care of my table had been working at this restaurant for years. I overheard her speaking to patrons across from me. She was very attentive. The meal was fantastic. The chowder was thick and full of seafood. There was no shortage of chowder and, therefore, the meal was not bread with a bit of chowder. The caesar salad was excellent. The lettuce was crisp and there was lots of cheese and croutons. I ate everything, including the bread bowl. I finished the meal with a full stomach and was more than satisfied. While I cannot compare this restaurant to any other of the same cuisine in the area, I was left with a very positive first impression. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was very nice. There was nothing about the service that I could complain about. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone travelling in the area.

Good restaurant

This restaurant offers various dishes including a children's menu. The pizza is delicious and the Italian salad is excellent. You have to order and they come to serve us at the table.

The baked crab was surprisingly delicious 😋!

By MichaelMc777 |

The restaurant is located in the main tourist area of Fisherman’s Warf. The interior decor was fun and visually pleasing. The service we received was friendly and attentive. The flame baked crab 🦀 was surprisingly delicious. The crabs must have weighed about two pounds each. They were very fresh, like they had just been caught that morning — one of the freshest, I have ever eaten in a restaurant!! They were both perfectly cooked and had little ends that were charred from the open flame 🔥— perfectly done and not over cooked — moist and the meat not shrunken back the shell. They were also lightly resting in a beautiful broth of shallots, parsley, chili flakes, white wine, garlic, and anchovy paste - superb and we soaked it up with freshly baked sour dough bread — YUMMY 😋 The clam chowder was 3.0. The Caesar salad was fresh and the dressing was just right. The chocolate desert was very nice. The sometimes offer a special prix fix dinner on Groupon. We both enjoyed our dinner so very much, and it was well worth the 1.25 hour drive. The flame baked crab was that good!! I have enjoyed crab all over the world and this was a special experience. Highly recommended when crabs are in season.

In need of lunch

By msucvm |

Day in city with hungry family. Restaurant had both land and sea food options which met our needs. Seafood was excellent. Service was slow as look like were under staffed. Staff were friendly.

Food OK, service unfriendly and hurried.

By Taranaki2014 |

While the food was OK, the service was ordinary . No water offered, wine not poured, food delivery was rushed as food was arriving before the last course was cleared. There are far better restaurants in Fishermans Wharf

Service & Food Superb

By Patricia P |

We happened on this restaurant because of mounting hunger. I have to say that I'm so happy we did. The food was delicious and service was excellent and friendly. I had opted for the crab crostini that was mouth watering delicious.

Fantastic dinner to end the day

By Isabel V |

Come for the crab, stay for the gnocchi. Try the RED clam chowder, a tomato-y twist on clam chowder.

Birthday deal POST sevens

Big up TO Flavia and Eli for their top level tolerance. We had a 29th birthday party that turned into a quiet drinky night. Mixed starters. Big portions. Crab was amazing....and lots of it. You even get a bib. Yes a bib. Flavia ....We are sorry. We returned the flag etc on..and the life buoy. Party on.

This is a nice little place to sit outside, have a beer and some food and watch the world go by. I would recommend a short stop one lunchtime.

A warm meal and inviting place after the fog rolls into San Francisco

By Darrell S |

We on our first night in San Francisco had ventured down to Fisherman's Wharf somewhat unprepared for the rapid change in weather that occurred once the fog rolled in. While 27 celcius and a beautiful day in the afternoon, it dropped very quickly when the fog rolled in at night. Looking for a place to eat and get warm and we found Capurros's and a very pleasant surprise. With a nautical theme and lots of cool collectibles, it was greatly enhanced by the great food and friendly staff. Loved the clam chowder in the bread bowl. Would eat here again without hesitation and other than the wine, which I found is expensive everywhere in San Francisco, great value.

Not bad, not great

By Dan B |

Had lunch here while in the area and we were not overly impressed nor disappointed. The food was decent but we all found the portions could have been larger.

Enjoyable Food

By KattsK (A Gluten Free Traveller!) |

We ate here as it was across the road from our hotel. We were pleasantly surprised. The menu was varied & included a few gluten free options. Their GF spaghetti & Meatballs was very enjoyable. There was a local police officer in there having his dinner, so if it’s good enough for him ... !!!

Tipping is an issue

By Gail105 |

The meal was nice. But it should be up to the individual to place the tip. But the restaurant put on the maximum tip to the bill and when you don't want to pay it and you put down on what you want to pay, the staff tell you that the yin have to pay 15% minimum. I thought tip was option nail depending how you thought the service was. Bloody rude I thiinl at the end of the day.

Pleasant

By Anmarsanj |

Nice place. Magnificent oysters and clam chowder and great crab. The pasta with clams was delicious and the price was not excessive

Surprisingly good!

By LaurenWillis |

We are visiting San Francisco from the UK and I have been surprised how tough it has been to find decent vegan options. If I have one more avocado toast, I swear I'll cry. We actually walked straight past Capurro's two days ago as we assumed it was your standard fish restaurant, but having seen online there were vegan options, we popped in for lunch. We had the vegan spaghetti and meatballs and while it wasn't cheap, it was DELICIOUS. Our server, Debbie, was really helpful, she even brought out unexpected vegan cheese as a bonus. Would definitely recommend and will visit again if we happen to be nearby.

Ok food, terrible service

By GL726 |

Decided to try this restaurant in Fisherman's Wharf as it seemed moderately busy which is typically a good sign for a restaurant. The food is ok. Nothing spectacular nothing terrible. The service on the other hand, is terrible. Bad enough that I'm never coming back. Sat at the bar and the wait staff of the restaurant kept putting used glasses literally a foot or inches away from me CONSTANTLY even though they could have put them somewhere else for the bartender to pickup. Which meant having wait staff reaching within inches of me constantly while I was eating to drop off used drink glasses. If the restaurant has a designated area to drop off used drink glasses, then they should mark it off and not have seats there.

Very Good Food

By abdulmalikn2017 |

This is a small restaurant across from the Cannary. They have very good Italian and seafood. The food is vey good and the fish are fresh. The service is excellent too. You will love it.

Excellent food and good service

By hiking-har |

We made a reservation for a large family for lunch and the table was nicely prepared. Generally you order at the bar but for our large family the order was taken at the table. We had a large crab order and the woodstone oven roasted crab was excellent. We could watch them getting roasted and then we had an excellent lunch. The service was professional and fast.

Good place to eat

Dropped in for a quick meal. We all had a different meal, good sized portions and flavorsome food. Nice place

Great place for Happy Hour 3-6!

By shemmy2 |

Came here after watching the Blue Angels. Perfect timing for their happy hour from 3-6. $4 drinks and many happy hour prices for $4-$8 appetizers: calamari, crab cakes, fish tacos, and much more.

San Francisco seafood!

By Dave T |

Cioppino literally climbs out of the bowl and the broth is totally sourdough bread-worthy. Great Dungeness crab in any menu selection. Good wine list too. Close to everything Fisherman’s Wharf.

A cut above the rest - excellent seafood restaurant

By John E |

We were strolling down the Wharf looking for a good seafood restaurant and checking out all the menus posted outside of each restaurant. Finally, we picked Capuuro’s which turned out to be a really good selection. This restaurant was a little higher end than most, with a nice spacious dining room and patio dining if you want to be outside. Capurro’s was a little pricey for some dishes but not out of line with the area competition. I started with two appetizers – a crab cake and Manhattan chowder. Both were very good. The crab cake was not the best I have had but still tasty and worth the add-on. The Manhattan chowder was really good and the “real’ deal. My main course was fish and chips which was fresh, lightly breaded and excellent in every way. They also had a good selection of draft beer and drinks. My two beers were fresh and excellent. Anchor Steam is A SF standard and a really good beer selection. My wife ordered a Margherita pizza which was really good. She also ordered a dessert and coffee. The service was spot on, the staff was friendly - no problems. Unlike some of the other highly rated seafood restaurant that were very basic inside, Capurro’s has a better “ambiance” that we really liked. All in all our best pick on Fisherman’s Wharf.

Awesome food

By Jay |

The food is just amazing and delicious. You'll always look forward to come back to this restaurant. Thank you!

Good seafood

By Ilmar K |

The food was very tasty with a great wait staff. The food presentation was wholesome and food prepared to my expectations. The price was acceptable also.

Champ Chowder

By Aaron F |

I’ve eaten here twice on separate visits to San Francisco. It is still just as good as it was five years ago. The option for a red sauce bread bowl means you can take your dairy free pescatarian friends there. Some of the restaurants on Fisherman’s Wharf claim to have “award winning” clam chowder which turns out to be mediocre at best. Capurro’s breadbowl doesn’t need any talking up to accentuate it’s quality and taste. The service and atmosphere is low-key, friendly and welcoming.

Great food

By Bill Fitzgerald |

Capurro's has great fresh fish and that has been its tradition for years. Very nice bar in convenient spot. Most SF Native go to Cappurro's Scoma's Alioto's and Cioppino's. Capurro's has opened its menu a bit to inlcude sandwiches, Calamari very good, and you can;t go wrong with the crab.

Only had Chowder bowl but it was good

By Matt E |

Popped in here one night for a quick/small meal. We decided to have a Chowder bowl each. Food was good - no complaints there. Only complaint was that we were served too quickly ! This might sound weird but it would to give the impression that the chef was putting effort into the meal. We understand the bread bowls are already made and the Chowder is in a big pot simmering away BUT we don't want our food 2 minutes are sitting down . Would i go back.....probably but there's so much to choose from in SF restaurants need to go beyond the norm to get me back.

A Delicious Experience

By Mackey75 |

Treat yourself to a delicious meal, a cool craft beer, a rich glass of wine and a step back into the history of San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. Wonderful food and ambiance. Perfect last stop before you board the cable car back into the City.

Delicious and quick!

By Ellie T |

Delicious, fast and just what we needed! As a family, we shared a simple but delicious meal here after a big day of sightseeing. We had Calamari, Garlic Sourdough and Cheese Pizza. Everything was delicious. I also had a mojito, which was fresh, zesty and delicious. Service was so quick and attentive, highly recommend if you want some hearty food, fast.

A shadow of its former glory

By MichaelMc777 |

The restaurant used to be delicious. Unfortunately, the times have been very challenging. You had to order at the bar and the food was brought to you. I tried the Cioppino with crab. The crab was not fire roasted as the bar tender had said. The sauce was just ok and lacked refinement. The seafood ingredients were fresh. I ate about half.

Food great! Host awful!

By Superdryers |

The foot was lovely, we stopped for a lunch and shared bruschetta, garlic truffle fries and a salad. The service from our waiter was excellent and I woke have given the place 5 stars but for the terrible host. She was miserable and threw the menu at the table and walked off. Upon observing she shouted at the waiters and had arguments with 3 separate customers including making 2 customers leave. She is not the face you expect for a lovely restaurant like this. If she is the manager I can only think this place won’t last long!

Colorfully Fabulous

By KomillaS |

Went for drinks at the bar, just chose it randomly due to its colorful exterior . It was delightful, we sat a the bar and had a couple of drinks and ate the delicious zucchini fritters as a bar snack The restaurant and bar is beautifully decorated, it was busy and service for excellent Definitely recommend to visit

Somewhere to wet the whistle!

By Destiny Litchfield |

I came here in 8/2018. I was by myself for a day trip to Fisherman's Wharf. Stopped in for some drink specials and bar bites and was not disappointed! Had some excellent mussels and a draft beer.

Super Snapper

By portweyboy |

A nice place trying to get back to 7after Covid. Snapper special with cannelloni beans and vegetables as a side was very good. Nice fish and chips.

Deserves to be busier than it was!

By John T |

Popped in at the end of lunch service. The place was dead, we were a little unsure. However our order was taken with no fuss, no issues with slight changes to options, served impeccably quickly and was delicious - the sourdough pizza base was one of the best I’ve had in a while and the wife’s chowder was really good. And what’s more, for San fran it was a bargain (under $50 for the pair of us inc tip). Couldn’t believe how busy it wasn’t, bearing in mind it’s between pier 39 and Ghiradelli!

Try a different place.

By stopitplease |

Don’t waste your time and money here. Crab cake was greasy, mushy, and flavorless. Calamari was the same. A real disappointment.

A warm and friendly watering hole!

By wkflymos |

I was wandering along the Fisherman’s Wharf area of San Francisco and fancied a beer. There, in front of me, was Capurro’s! A fine looking bar and restaurant. What surprised me once inside was the warm welcome I received from the bar man. This is a family owned restaurant and you can either go the whole hog and eat, restaurant-style, or take a pew at the bar, drink and snack. This became a regular spot for me when my ship came into port and the conversation I enjoyed will be a lasting memory (many local folk pop in to do just as I did). The beer is excellent, as are the Dungeness Crab bruschetta! Oh, and it was by far the best price for a pint I could find!

Best restaurant in Fisherman’s wharf

Greeted by owner who was super friendly great staff, really good value for money and food was delicious and beers fab. Definitly recommend it

MORE SEAFOOD

This is right by the cable car turn-around in Fisherman's Wharf. Clam chowder was good. I had a seafood combo of calamari, fish and shrimp.

Really bad quality of food

My mother has felt really bad after eating spaghetti with clams, and she has spent the whole night with intestine problems

Very good food & service for lunch

By ams44 |

Went Tuesday 1pm for lunch with grandkids. Restaurant was almost empty and we had choice of tables. Service was very good. They have a nice children’s menu with all items $9.95. Pasta dish was effectively Mac & Cheese and kids enjoyed it thoroughly. My wife and I got items from the lunch special menu - I got the clam chowder in a bread bowl plus Caesar salad, and my wife got a special salad. They served tasty bread with a tasty olive oil. The cost for our dishes were about $13.95 each. While the prices were a little high, the food was very tasty and the portions were a nice size. We would recommend this restaurant.

Quick Lunch

By Saverio P |

Landed in SF. Staying at Argonaut Hotel and needed a quick bite. Across the street is Capurro’s so we stopped in for lunch. Was promptly seated and our server was very attentive. Ordered a Pellegrino and a couple glasses of wine. Split the fish and chips. Batter was very lightly done. Great tartar sauce. Nice lunch very good service.

Decent seafood for less than at tourist traps

By food_reviewer45 |

We went for lunch. They are a block or so away from the Fisherman’s Wharf sign. Have been there many years but we have not tried before. You go to the bar just inside the door and place your order. You get a number sign so the food runner knows where to bring your order. Seat yourself. Practically empty. Covid fear? My appetizer was 6 raw oysters for $2 each. They came with a seafood sauce and lemon. Tiniest oysters I’ve ever seen, but tasty and fresh. My wife had a crab arancini, only $4. For mains, we each had a crab sandwich $22 each. Seemed expensive but that’s normal in SF. Good enough. I had a local Anchor Steam beer $8 and my wife had a margarita $10 (from a can!!) Service? There isn’t any really, just a food runner and a busser.

Good food and a bustling vibe

By Rowan W |

Had a group of 20 attend and they did a great job of looking after us with friendly and efficient service. Had a nice appetiser salad. The crab cakes were a touch dry but we enjoyed beautiful steaks and fish. Pity that a Sicilian restaurant had ordinary coffee but that’s not a massive issue for us. Nice decor and the owner is very friendly....he cooked our dinner! Will try the Blue Mermaid next...

Big Mistake

By Theresa W |

I was excited to try this restaurant as I was really looking forward to eating fresh fish on Fisherman's Wharf. The place had an old feel to it and the hostess was nice. The food however, was not desirable. I had 2 Oysters and a crabcakes for appetizers that looked wonderful but they were extremely salty and cold. My entree was The Flank Steak Panini. The sandwich had alot of steak but it was very bland and extremely dry. I did order a Margarita but it tasted like they used the cheapest tequila brand out there. The husband ordered Red Snapper, also bland. At the the end of our meal, I physically saw the chef eat a fry while cooking. I was done at that point. My pictures uploaded sideways.

Food disappointing, and not Italian

By Burhan S |

For an Italian, the worst pizza ever. Two slices was the most my wife (or I) could bare. Really looked like the frozen pizza they just unpacked and threw into microwave. The bolognaise was bland. The mussels too few to count. The roasted crab was nice, not sure if it was half. And accompanying fries were terrible. Location ok. Nice to sit outside. Service was friendly, though not very helpful. Disappointing to have waked all that way for this.

The pizza was good and the staff was friendly

By Severin Kämpfer |

The pizza was very good but some spots on it where crunchy, while others weren’t, the prices were ok and the interior was looking good. The staff was very friendly and kind. But then we saw her: A blond woman (I think she‘s the boss) and she was so rude to her staff. She was absolutely not friendly to them. That’s not ok.

Hidden gem of delight

By CosmicConnections |

Had a wonderful snack here. Travelin the wharf trying food. This is a return to place. My meal was cooked to perfection

Best grouper ever

By Toni M |

Directly across from Argonaut Hotel. Sicilian style. Ordered grilled grouper. Was the best I have ever eaten. It was seasoned to perfection, moist and tender and extremely flavorful. Served with grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes. Service was excellent. Food prepared at grill in main dining room

Bad service

By Deven S |

We had thought of spending quality time here over a couple of drinks and good food but were really disappointed. We were greeted in a horrible / rude way by the hostess who directed us to a table, threw the menus on the table and walked away. Who does that in the service industry? Also, the happy hour sign was misleading, it’s only at the bar and not at the tables, so ask first. We were so hurried to place the order even when the restaurant was nearly empty at 5pm, we were very disappointed and just had a beer and appetizers and left. Not recommended at all. Stay away.

Average Seafood

By 605jayg |

The food was good but nothing outstanding. I had fish and chips, my wife had salad with shrimp on top. We both had new England clam chowder. Chowder was good. The fish and chips were a nice sized portion. Service was good. We came in with no reservations and the hostess went out of her way to seat us.

Great bar

By mangrovemountaineer |

After being disappointed with Argonaut Mermaid Bar, we came here. The barman, Eddie, was fabulous and really lovely to talk to, so was Mike the Irishman - a real character. They kept us entertained and well served for 2 of the nights we were here.

Average...

By Princebb |

The location of the restaurant is very good. The furniture could use some renovation. The decoration is meant to remind a Sicilian place. From my point of view not with an specially good taste. There are many possibilities to recreate a Sicilian place really. Let’s talk about the food and service which are the most important aspects to review a restaurant. I read some reviews, and many people were not satisfied with the service. Fortunately we were lucky about that since we got an efficient waiter. The food was just fine, not outstanding and it was quite expensive. I would say an average place.

Eh...Decent for a Quick Lunch

By PrezLife |

The lunch special tuna panini shouldn’t even be on the menu. Not as described in regards to looks and taste. The shrimp sandwich was decent and the clam chowder was actually pretty good. Good outdoor atmosphere but would of gone to a different restaurant. Had the Mule which was actually very well.

Wonderful Atmosphere

By Philip M |

Food was very good and wines and beers were also very good with plenty of choice. Atmosphere is lively but very friendly. perhaps what you would expect in a typical American Diner style restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Just rude.........

By Dirksdonuts |

We were invited to our table by a young front of house girl who was really friendly. Then a lady came over to take our drink order. She immediately informed us she was the manager of the place and looked really stressed out. From this minute onwards it went downhill. She was very abrupt and we just ordered our drinks. Well three of them as she never even asked my 12yr old son if he wanted anything. She brought out the drinks and again was very rude and not friendly at all. I decided that we should pay for the drinks and leave. When we asked for the bill she got worse so much so a table of four who sat next to us immediately got back up and left without even looking at the menu. Just really rude and not very friendly at all. If I am going to spend 120 dollars on a meal for four at least they could pretend to like us. My suggestion would be eat elsewhere

0 Stars Except for our Waiter

By JMinNashville |

Where to start...we walked in at an off time and the hostess acted annoyed that we didn’t have a reservation. There literally were 2 or 3 tables seated in the entire place so quite empty but she still looked around as if she had no idea where she was going to put us. (I’ll add here that maybe one other table was seated the entire time we were there). Food was okay but nothing special that we thought we needed to go back even though right across from our hotel and convenient. Sauce is a matter of taste but it was a little too sweet for us. Seafood a little bland. Just really nothing special. The greeting is HUGE when making customers feel happy and want to return. I’d recommend replacing the older blonde lady unless she is the owner, in that case I’d just expect a lot of one time customers. Our waiter did a great job which is why it even received stars at all.

Dreadful Experience...Stay Away!

By jim41752 |

Was here with 9 people for dinner. Service was poor; food was poor. To top it all off, they included a mandatory 20% tip. i understand the tip being included with large groups, but at least give me the option to make it 15%.

Solid place convenient to Fisherman's Wharf

By tankr |

Decent escape from the touristy Fisherman's Wharf. Recommended by a cousin who lives in SF. Nice sauteed seafood. Kitschy (in a good way) casual atmosphere. Friendly, attentive service.

Good Lunch

By Leon G |

Pleasant sidewalk table. The two of us had SHRIMP LOUIE. Very good with nice sourdough bread. Excellent service. Give it a try.

Good food, bad service. No go!

By Ruud V |

We'd chosen this restaurant with our family to celebrate our visit to San Francisco. The restaurant had a good ambiance and the food was good. The service though was poor; the waitress was not very friendly and she informed that service was included. When the cheque was brought she already calculated for 20% tip which did not reflect the service we had been given. According her we couldnt argue about ths anymore. Disapointing!

Incredibly expensive for average service and food

By jbikales |

This place charges over $20 for just about every dish, including things like fish and chips and sandwiches I could find at a fast food place. I had the margarita pizza, which wasn't good enough to warrant the price- too many tomatoes and not much flavor. The waiter was somewhat rude when we needed a few more minutes to decide our order.

Best Ciopinno ever

By Susy L |

My husband and I were warmly greeted by the owner who explained how to order our meal at the bar, when we ordered we were given a number and waitress showed us to our table. Even though we didnt make reservations there was plenty of room for walk-ins. Our entree arrived first than by there famous Ciopinno authentic Sicilian style fish stew...it didn't disappoint us at all and it came with warm sourdough bread...we were in heaven. Its a must try if ever in San Francisco ❤️

Reasonable food in a nice atmosphere

By MLLarge |

Reasonable, not great, food at okay, not great, prices. The menu was pretty good in terms of options. The setting and atmosphere are good and so is the service, which was quick and friendly.

What is this place?

By PaHaB70 |

Wierd. I think the decorations are the stuff other restaurants tossed out. Order at the bar; take a number and wait for food. Packets for condiments. Chowder was bland; Progresso makes a better chowder. Fried seafood platter was on a par with other restaurants on the wharf. Seafood maybe a bit poorer; fish was the only one I had all week where the batter didn't overwhelm the fish.

Nice place for an app and mid day cocktail.

By ALynn83 |

I stopped in for a later lunch and drinks after a long morning of hiking and photographing the city. I was there mid day so it wasn't busy. I assume going at 12pm or 5pm there might be a wait. But the staff was kind, it was clean and a nice spot for a quick bite.

Really accommodating and quick service

By Aine M |

There was nothing I could eat on the menu, but before I could even make suggestions of things I could emit from the existing menu items to make them suitable, one of the staff told me he could make me a tomato veggie pasta dish. I was hesitant because from past experience I know this can often mean pasta in passata with a handful of peas or mushrooms, but this dish was great! Lots of veg including aubergine, courgette, and carrots, and the tomato base was delicious. Our orders were taken almost immediately after we put our menus down, and the food came out really quickly. Great staff, highly recommend :) a little expensive but is to be expected considering its location. Also offers gluten free pasta on request (not sure how this tastes as I didn't have it, but was offered it).

Don’t be fooled my the cheese decor!

By Dale S |

Great food and quick service. We were able to sit outside and watch the tourists go by. The clam chowder bread bowl was very good as was everything we ate. Fish and chips was light and very tasty!

Better than anticipated

By LG4KL |

We echo the what recent reviewers have states. We had a better experience than expected. Perfectly grilled salmon and rest of party was happy too. Great service. Go for the outdoor seating if the sun is out

The service is not friendly here

By Marija N |

We just stoped by for a drink. The lady at the entrance had a serious attitude. When we were asking for WiFi password, we felt like she was seriously annoyed because we were asking anything. We were joking that she wanted us to leave our money and get out of her way. We totally didn’t feel welcome there at all!

Great crab linguine

By Tino |

We stopped here off the off chance and we loved it from the moment we saw the place it reminds you of a Dolce Gabanna advert the true Sicilian look . The food was good we met the owner and we will return

Great! and the best we found in the area

By Locksbottom |

We ate here several times whilst staying in San Francisco, including with friends who knew the area fairly well! To be honest we were surprised with the great food here as we found many other restaurants in the area pretty poor with reviews here and elsewhere suggesting that to eat in other places would have been foolish. We ate here three times in the eight days we were here and each time the food was great, the service excellent and the wine superb. We tried a couple of other places and were not impressed!

This experience brought a new meaning to being ripped off!

By Ian B |

The location and ambiance, nice old pictures of the original owners and good music suggested a nice experience for lunch. We thought we would go for a $20 crab cocktail (each). Ok so your on Fishermans Wharf so you expect to to pay a little more however the cocktails came presented on a piece of lettuce with a slice of lemon and pot of ketchup! No bread on the side and a bowl of fries between us turned out to be $7.95. We had 4 glasses of beer between us and the bill came to $85.50 For information the meals being consumed by others around us also looked most uninspiring. To cap it off the table next to us remained dirty throughout our meal.... sorry not recommended.

Lovely meal at lunch

Really buzzing Italian restaurant, very nice food, friendly efficient staff, . Enjoyed it.and would recommend it.

Walk In - Very Busy - Long Wait

By WNO2011 |

Staff very pleasant and helpful - place was extra busy - ambiance is good - not fine dinning but food was reasonable quality and presentation. I would not stand in line again but would return for an inexpensive meal if there was no waiting.

Good mood

By Omer T |

Fishermen’a Wharf, cold drinks, good food, funny but respectful staff. This place has a good vibe. You can enjoy a walk to or from the restaurant, or just enjoy the breeze and get another drink.

Too many good restaurants in San Francisco to waste time and money here

By yonsider |

We visited Capurro's on a quiet Friday in November. We had just finished walking across the Golden Gate Bridge so were hungry for lunch. I ordered clam chowder and a crabmeat sandwich. My boyfriend ordered a shrimp cocktail. The server was reasonably attentive, but not particularly engaging despite the fact of there being so few customers. The chowder tasted mostly of rosemary and the sandwich was so insipid I asked if it was real or faux crab. My friend, who loves seafood, was sprinkling salt on his shrimp cocktail. "It needs something," he said. We paid a rather hefty price for this disappointing meal and a couple of beers. Fortunately, we found another restaurant on Fishermens Wharf later in the day which had great tasty chowder. We would not return to Capurros.

Great tasting food and top service

By Nomad660144 |

We went twice to Capurro‘s during our stay in San Francisco. A nice place close to Fishermans wharf. The food and especially the pizza and pasta are very tasty. Top service, very friendly fun and personable. Definite worth a visit!

Better than anticipated!

By Liz K |

We were nervous since it’s in a tourist area, it’s over priced but the food was good. The clam chowder was excellent as were the French fries! The kids spaghetti was not great. They were very accommodating for my picky son and created a plain grilled chicken sandwich for him. Fantastic sourdough bread!!! I’d definitely go back!

Yum yum

By toddbP9048WO |

Beautiful setting on Fishermans Wharf. We ate outside on a early spring SF day. Chowder in a bread bowl is the way togo.

Delicious lunch

By Akkapo |

We went here for lunch as we were looking for a place we could bring our dog and it was a great choice! The chowder bowl was great. I liked the exteriors if the restaurant. You were even allowed your dog inside the restaurant!

Today was a great day to go to SF and take the kids! We visited the exploratorium and got a year membership! After that my family and i were famished and decided to go out near pier 39 and get some food. I saw a restaurant called Cioppinos but we walked further and then stumbled across Capurros. It looked inviting qnd kid friendly so we went in.. man were we wrong. The blonde hostess was rude and uninviting. I had to tell her 3 times we have 3 adults and 2 children.. she asked us if we had reservations (we were there at 4:30pm before dinner rush) and she acted as if we inconvenienced her.. she walked us to our table and on the floor there were crab shells she KICKED them aside.. i was like wow... this is a nice restaurant. We sat in the booth and my poor mom who is disabled sat and asked if we can get the blinds lowered because the sun was hurting her eyes and she brushed it off and did not help. Our server Malik came to take drink orders and at this point the restaurant was dead .. we waited got out drinks (we have been there for like 15 minutes at this point) qnd a party of 4 a party of 2 and another party of 2 came and sat.. we finally ordered our meals and the people who showed up 15 minutes after us got their salads and their appetizers super quick.. then they started getting their plates for eating their crab and here we sat without the salad that came with my moms meal.. the children wanted more bread and we had to ask the busser named Eunicio who was amazing! He kept checking on us and seeing if we needed anything... thats a true server right there... Malik we barley saw until i confronted him.. he wasnt even engaged with us.. everyone got their food and we sat there with our salad finally and more bread thanks to Eunicio and the other tables who sat later than us by at least 15 minutes got their food... our waiter said "the kitchen was backed up"... thats weird because we ordered pasta.. crab and cioppino like everyone else did around us. So he went and checked on it and we still waited on our food. The food that came was amazing, fresh and great presentation. So sad that their front of the house staff couldn't deliver great service..when my cousin got her Cioppino she forgot to order it with no mussels so Malik accommodated her and brought her more clama at her request and seemed to make up for his lqck of service earlier.... he still didnt pay much attention to our table. When the meal was done with i decided to get a manager involved.. i told him about the service from our hostess and our waitor and he said.."im sorry, thats frustrating".. "I'm sorry about all of this"... he was not compassionate, it went in one ear and out the other.. he really did not care about the feedback of what i was saying and for being a reataurant manager .. wouldnt you go above and beyond for your customers and make sure your staff is up to par. Make sure that everyone leaves with a smile.. he said sorry and walked away.. no empathy or anything. Im sorry but the money i paid i could have went to a better restaurant (cioppinos had a way better menu and a better atmosphere) we will not be returning to their establishment qnd do NOT recommend this restaurant. Don't pay 10 dollars for children's butter pasta... This has been the worst dining experience i have ever had. I'd rather eat in and out or at a crappy Denny's.

AVERAGE FOOD WITH BAD SERVICE

By Corey S |

Visited this restaurant yesterday and I could not have been more disappointed. The restaurant had barely any patrons, yet the service was beyond slow. I'm not one to complain when a restaurant is full, as I realize that food takes time to prepare and serve. The server mixed up the entire order ( there were only 4 of us) and he literally never came back to our table to see if we needed or wanted anything else.

Great friendly bar

After getting poor service earlier at a bar in Pier 39 this place was a godsend. Friendly staff, happy hour priced food and beer and friendly patrons. Great place for a drink.

The Place to go for Crab

By Golda99 |

I've been here several times over the years. It's my go-to place for crab. Love bringing my mom here. My husband loves it too. There's just something special about eating crab dinners. It's not a fast meal and so you get to enjoy a longer conversation with whomever your with. My mom, husband and I went to Capurro's yesterday and had, once again, a lovely crab dinner with a good salad, coffee, desert, and let's not forget the lovely martini.

Average Italian restaurant with nice position

We were greed by an Italian women who convinced us of the originality of the kitchen. Both pastas and fish dishes were okay We were treated very nice by the staff.

Good Comfort Pasta Place

By JJ F |

I had an early dinner. The server and I discussed a few options (some good ones on the menu) (see website) and I went with his recommendation of Frutti Mare Pasta and a glass of Benzinger SB. The Pasta dish had so much seafood in it, I felt like I had to look for the pasta! All seafood tasted fresh and well prepared. It is on Fisherman's Wharf and a little pricey but not that much to deter me from returning on my next trip! I would recommend this place to try. It is down at the good end of the Wharf so not that much tourist crowd. Again, I recommend this place as a nice choice.

Car Park View & Hurried

By Bluefox47 |

We had an organised meal in a party of twelve at the end of our coach tour. Thinking that we would have a view of the bay, we were disappointed only to see a car park. We had pre-ordered our meals and we chose steak. This is only restaurant we have been to that did not ask how this was to be cooked. Mine was ok as was my wife's but one guest had to send theirs back which was replaced without question. The rest of the meal was ok, the one alcoholic drink provided but the limitless non alcoholic drinks never materialised. In fact we were made aware in no uncertain terms that our time was up and table wanted. Not the best experience.

Popular location, average food, poor service - move on

By eatgosee |

IG: eatgosee This was somewhat of an astonishing experience. But before we get to that let’s set the scene. This is a large restaurants positions firmly on the waterfront with a view looking out into the bay. It has a very vibrant decor with a clear Fishermans, nautical theme. It is placed on a very busy thoroughfare in a touristy and popular area of San Francisco. Needless to say it is the type of area where you would expect to see a lot of people milling around, walking by and therefore for traffic coming into this restaurant. We came here once for lunch but I walked past it several times in the days following. HIGHLIGHTS: - Location as there is plenty of good atmosphere if you’re sitting outside. The inside is very bright and something closer to a Disney meets theme restaurant. DIVIDED: - Half of the group had the red snapper dish which I understand was quite good but admittedly did not try myself. The house rose that we drank was also perfectly drinkable and if you came here to only have a bottle of rosé while sitting outside and watching the world go by, you would probably have quite a good experience. LOWLIGHTS: - SERVICE. This is where the tipping culture in the United States really drives the wrong behaviour. I’ll wait I got the order wrong, the food arrived five minutes before the wind it (which is in excusable given one thing requires cooking and the other thing requires simply picking up on pouring), it took forever to get waiters to come see us. Not with standing the fact that this is a large restaurant it is also at the time that we were here only about 20% full during lunch in the middle of the week. i’m not entirely sure why as paying guests we need to pay even the minimum culturally acceptable amount of service charge for an experience that frankly was inferior to whether I got up and went to the bar and into the kitchen to retrieve the things that I ordered. - Clam chowder bowl: Admittedly this is not the kind of food that I particularly enjoy but, when in Rome, we decided to have the Klamm chowder because it felt like the right thing to do and also because it was recommended someone strongly from the waiter. The soup was floury, it arrived in a bread bowl which I know is customary but borders on pointless given that nobody eats the bread bowl (three of the tables around us did the same thing and I noticed that they did not eat at either - it seems like a waste of bread). It arrived with a side salad which is not presented in any particularly attractive way and looking through the leaves some of them appear to be old and not picked through by the kitchen. Should I come here again? Hopefully not. And then here I suspect lies the issue. As this restaurant is positioned on a popular thoroughfare, I question how many returning guests actually come back to this place. It does not seem fair to call this a tourist trap but it is not far away from that. There are a lot of very basic and elementary mistakes systematically made here that requires thoughtful attention. If there is as much effort was put into the food and service as it has into the decor then this could be a very good place with lines around the corner. After all this is a city where people do lineup around the corner to get into a good restaurant but, as mentioned, this place was only 20% full during lunchtime on a sunny day in a touristy area which makes me ask questions.
