Attitude Adjustment Required!

By s15decoy |

This restaurant does have decent food, and we know because we have eaten here before. However, eating at a restaurant like this is more than just about the food, it's about the total experience. Upon arriving, our party of 5 was told there were no tables and the wait would be 45+ minutes. This in itself was not so unusual or a problem. But we pointed to a table for 6 with only 2 people sitting at it and we were told that THEY had a reservation because they do take reservations for 6 persons. Of course, EVERY restaurant I have been to which takes reservations REQUIRES the entire party to be present before being seated. Not here. Another table for 7 sat empty waiting for the reserving party. Despite this, we decided to wait, and walked over to the bar. But, as it turned out, the bar is not really set up for people to have a drink while waiting to be seated, instead, all the bar seats were occupied by people eating their dinner. Since no staff seemed to care or attempt to give us some directive or assist, we decided to leave. It seems to me, a restaurant should either take reservations, or not. Why discriminate against the size of your group? It smacks of greed, because in theory, the tab for 6 is greater than 2,3,4,or 5. The whole bar/drink issue is a mystery I cannot fathom-most places want to keep you there to drink, eat, and enjoy. In my view, if a restaurant leaves a bad taste in your mouth, there is no reason to go, so we are as done with Carbone's as they were with us.

Perfect local

By Maryellen Q |

We love going to Carbones as a couple, family or on our own to enjoy their incredibly fresh pasta dishes and great wine selection. The lasagna is the best in town and the Sunday gravy is a house special. Go early or be prepared for a wait.

Simply food...

Take the best ingredients, prepare to traditional Italian recipes, present the finished article with care and flair and you have a great combination no more needs to said this place is simply great.

Thursday: Porchetta day!

By Olif_10 |

We were really looking forward to being able to have lunch on a Thursday here to try their special porchetta (pork) sandwich. Well, last Thursday was the day and it was very good, however, it was probably the GREASIEST sandwich I have eaten in a long time. So whereas my taste buds said, "heck yeah!!" my stomach was more like "please don't do this again.." after an hour or so...

Excellent, Authentic Italian

By AlmostaJetsetter |

We didn't dine in, but we did takeout. I ordered the spinach lasagna, and my husband had the lasagna bolognese (with meat). Both dishes were DELICIOUS (some of the best we've had)! The portions are nice (you probably won't have leftovers, but you WILL be full). It was a busy Friday night, and the wait was pretty long, so I cannot review the service from a "dining in" standpoint. However, the person who took our order was friendly. Next time, we will have to make reservations early, so we can get the full Carbone's experience. Verdict: WE WILL BE BACK

Rare Find!

By jangrote |

I stumbled across this restaurant while looking for another restaurant a client wanted to visit. I fell in love with the atmosphere and the menu looked enticing. We had additional clients in from MA and they wanted a place where they could talk and good food. they were extremely impressed. They said the service was not intrusive and the food was excellant! The bill was also very reasonable.

Food was exceptional, service was lacking.

By SATexasGirl |

We started out waiting over 30 minutes for our table to be ready, we had a reservation. Several other parties were waiting for theirs as well. I got the impression this wasn’t unusual. So just manage expectations there and plan to go grab a drink in the bar. Ambiance is great! Really fun and swanky. Our server was pretty hands off considering our bill was $500. Compared to a typical steakhouse where service is phenomenal and befitting a 20% tip on that type of tab. The bread/water guy was great though and holy cow that pizza bread they give you is YUMMY! MUST ORDER: Spicy rigatoni vodka. It’s better than anywhere else you’ve had it and not particularly spicy. I dream about it. My daughter wanted to go back again the next day just to get it. The Veal Parmigian was also amazing! It’s worth going in spite of the service. Just manage your expectations there.

Miserable

By Rhonda W |

The patio area has dozens of outdoor heaters overhead and beside tables — stuffy, miserable atmosphere. Heat blasting at us from every angle. I asked if temperature could be reduced and was told No. My phone was on the table, and shut off because it overheated. I had to go outside several times just to get fresh air. People in line for the bathroom commented on the awful, burning heaters. The couple at the table next to us also expressed displeasure at the heating system. Food was decent, but climate ruined the evening.

Amazing Italian

By Daisy3421 |

My husband and I own an Italian food truck and this place really had to live up to some high expectations. Boy, did it ever! The meatballs were amazing and there were 6 of them, wish we could have taken them home, but we were staying in a hotel. The eggplant parm was the best I have ever had in my life (sorry honey). The ambiance is lacking, being in a strip mall, and it was very loud, but the food mad up for it. The wine selection was great. If you want REAL Italian food, try this place. If you are a party of 6 or more, I think it's reservation only.

Good, not great

By DallasTravelingMan66 |

Stopped by for brunch on a Saturday at noon. As we walked up, we weren't even sure it was open - it was a little past noon, it looked dark inside and no one was in the place. Kind of odd considering they have a specific weekend brunch menu. The food was very good, even at the Park Cities pricing levels. Lasagne is light and there is plenty of it. The caprese salad is worth trying as is the meatball hero. Minestrone soup is excellent. This has to be the first Italian restaurant I have ever been to that doesn't offer bread with a meal. Service was excellent, which isn't hard with only one occupied table. They also have take-out food and wine - again, pretty steep on the prices. We'll give it a try for dinner.

Can do better

By 83lovetotravel |

Service was excellent, however the vegetarian options are limited. We only had 2 items to choose in the main entree. Quality was adequate and the eggplant appetizer was delicious. The house breads are excellent to start your evening out. Dessert was delicious as well but wouldn’t say that’s the best I have had. They ave really tried to pretty up the warehouse setting by adding greenery etc but would go to monarch to celebrate special occasion only for the $$$$ you spend here.

Excellent Italian Food

By TravelWell040 |

Having read a number of recommendations in numerous Dallas magazines at the Warwick Melrose Hotel, we decided to try Carbone's on a Friday evening. We arrived to an empty dining establishment which filled to capacity within 1/2 hour. There was a mixed crowd of young to senior citizens and dressed well. The wait staff was friendly and knew the menu to match the wine offerings which is always a indication of how good the restaurant really is. We ordered the Sea Food of the Day, Snapper, that was prepared on a bed of lentils - it was very good. The calamari was prepared to perfection with red peppers sprinkled on it. The Caesar Salad dressing had only a slight anchovy taste which was refreshing. Our only complaint was the staff was so busy that we decided to forgo dessert because of the long wait

Incredibly average

By pegcribari |

I have heard that this was "one of the best restaurants in town". Pffff. If you don't cook and have a bland palate perhaps. It was so incredibly average and not worth the 19$ for a pile of linguini and 6 shrimp. Nothing else, no veggie, no bread. Don't waste your time is my advise!! 👎🏻👎🏻

Excellent food experience!

By cclakeman |

First time there and for sure won't be my last. What a nice time we had. Each course was delicious. The service was helpful and very attentive. The pasta was home made as was all the sauces. Took desert home and it was enjoyed later. A great find!

Good food/nice staff - would good back

By Margaret C |

We went on Sunday around 6 pm, and it was already packed. They have a prix fixe four course meal on Sunday nights, but we ordered a la carte. I had some fried artichokes to start--the sauce was wonderful. I then had the creste rigate with lamb bolognese, and it was so good. I could eat that all day long. My aunt, whom I went with, is a regular there, so she knows many of the servers. We had a very good service. They also get extra points for having Dr Pepper in the bottle!

perfectly authentic Italian

By whatatripwehad |

its so much like being in a small village in Italy, its small, intimate and offers wonderful authentic food, all served perfectly-- its not hoity toity, its just really, really good!

Dinner with friends

By RICHnGABE |

Monday Carbone's has 1/2 price bottles of wine and the food is very good. We both had the Caesar Salad and lasagne. Although the Caesar dressing was missing either anchovies or salt, the greens were crisp and fresh and the croutons were nice and crunchy. The lasagne was delicious!! Expect a wait, but it's certainly worth the wait!!

Fresh Italian food

By debrajkennedy |

Enjoyed a nice dinner in August. Had appetizers and shrimp scampi. The waiter was very nice and accomodating.

A taste of Italy

By MsBwana |

While our service was not speedy, the food was worth the wait. Enjoy true Italian cuisine right in Dallas. Our homemade pastas were excellent, each one better than the next. Carbone's is a fun little restaurant/deli, nothing fancy -- but definitely upscale deli. Give it a try. I grew up in an Italian neighborhood and have visited Italy a few times, this is on par with both.

excellent

By txoutdoor |

Had a really good dinner; only reason it didn't get 5 stars is the wait was long and not really efficiently handled. But the food is excellent and freshly prepared. I'll definitely be back

Good taste dining

By Tamaholipa |

Very good place and enviroment!! Amazingly good food with a good enough service!! After table rushed by the waiter!!

Great Food

By jeff o |

Food is great! First time to eat lunch here, as we usually eat dinner. Chicken parmigiana sandwich and the Italian Combo Hero sandwich were excellent!! Atmosphere was not as nice as dinner.

Deafening but delicious

By Theresa J |

Dedicated and darling waitstaff. Delicious Italian food. Delectable vegetarian options. Down right deafening!

Dinner and Conversation

By LivingSassy |

Quaint atmosphere and delicious dining visit to this establishment this evening. We enjoyed a glass of full-bodied wine with calamari for an appetizer. Lightly prepared and tender enough to melt in your mouth. Dinner consisted of the Shrimp scampi in a light and flavorful garlic butter and parsley sauce. What great pasta for a light and tasty dish. We also dined on Creste Gravy which is a full and hearty pasta with veal and pork red sauce. Totally full after a few hearty fork full but worth every bit!! Wrapped up on Panna Cotta that was airy and literally melted in your mouth.. Great little place to dine if you are a lover of good pasta dishes...Go and enjoy and always include wine...

Carefully prepared, delicious vegetarian options

By dianaholbert |

The spinach lasagne had the most delicious tomato sauce ever. The young chef came to our table and suggested that we try the spaghetti with the marinara sauce. His description of how they make it made us realize just why the food is a little higher than our neighborhood Italian restaurant. This is really outstanding, plus the waitstaff is terrific, and the space is nice.

Awesome Food

By fish2fry |

Had the spaghetti and meatballs and both were cooked perfectly and was like being in Florence, Italy. Service was friendly and very professional. Just a great place to eat.

Neighborhood Gem...almost!

By JKCDMom |

I have dined here two times in the past 2 months. Each time was a little different experience. The food is very good , all pasta and carbs..no fish or chicken...The service was very good. The wine list is all Italian (as it should be in an Italian restaurant), but the waiters are very helpful with this, if you aren't familiar with them. It is a very casual place..ask not to be seated by the from door if it is cold..you will freeze...

overrated food and poor service, will not return.

By b2buck |

My wife and I dropped in here while visiting the area last month for a late lunch around 1:30 pm on Friday. The restaurant was not busy but the server for our area acted like we had severely burdened him by showing up. Every stop at the table seemed like it was a huge effort for him. The food was nothing special in taste or presentation. Even though it was an Italian based menu they had one seafood dish on a Friday during lent. The price was too high for what it was. We will not ever return to this place. There are a lot of great choices in Dallas that are way better than this. Go try them.

Very Good Italian

By TXTish |

We arrived early on a Friday night and got one of the last tables. Our server was wonderful. We shared the escarole salad with red onion, walnuts, and pecorino. It was forgettable with a tasteless dressing. The Bruschetta was great...lots of flavor in the finely diced tomatoes on crusty peasant bread. Our entrees were both wonderful....Eggplant Parmesan and Lasagna Bolognese. We shared a Pana Cotto for dessert. It was one of the lightest and creamiest we've ever had-- very tasty with lightly stewed berries on top. Cozy bistro-style atmosphere was perfect for a casual dinner.

Friendly & tasty

By studying4vacation |

Carbone's is a small, casual Italian place but with an upscale crowd. Menu isn't very big but the food is nicely prepared. Had an excellent eggplant parm. Personally I wouldn't order the chopped salad again -- just not that much to it other than lettuce. For some reason our table by the window was terribly hot whenever the heat came on. Maybe it had something to do with the cold weather that night. Very good service, and the waiter gave us helpful wine advice. I would return.

Fresh, delish Italian cafe!

By BeachLover75205 |

Had lunch here yesterday with a couple of girlfriends...first visit, although my husband and I love love love the sister fine-dining restaurant Nonna's. This is a combo Italian food store, take out and table service place. Lasagne al Bolognese was fresh and yummy, as were the shishito pepper appetizer, beet salad and linguini with scampi. Great service too. Will be returning often - and for dinner!

Rude chef

By Hutch5900 |

I use to love Carbones! But when the chef comes out to argue with you because you have five and not six of your people, he has lost a very good customer with LOTs of friends !! I will Never return! He offended my family with his rudeness! Shame on him because I chose that restaurant for my nieces birthday ! Btw my daughter the 6th person who is a chef too, was volunteering at a women's shelter !!!!! Sorry no matter how good the food is, you never complain to your customer ! I also tipped our poor waitress 33 percent! I hope she gets a job at a place that deserves her !!!!!!!

Ok

By TUTU_POPUP |

Nice Italian food. Delicious. Nice serving size on entrees. Greek salad size jokingly small. Bread tasty.

Fresh Italian food from scratch!

By Kevin |

Simple, clean, incredibly hospitable...such a wonderful experience. It is definitely a meal that is on the higher priced end of the spectrum for pasta but the ambiance (although a little loud and a slight wait time at 8:30pm on a Saturday night ...approx 30 min wait and they got us seated in half the time of that) it is definitely worth the experience for the food and the service. Love when food is made from scratch and modified however needed. A fresh menu of selections is printed daily. Highly recommend but it is one of those pricier options, but hey...good food and healthy - I would say it’s worth it :-)!

Pricey Poor Service Limited Menu Best Bread Basket In Dallas

By JD1638 |

Ok the bread basket - EXCELLENT- so good. Such variety!! Would have liked some olive oil or butter for the plain bread but will forgive since the rest was so good. And don’t get me started on the chunk of cheese they bring out. Sooo yummy. It literally went down hill from there. Wine sommelier stopped by. Super hyper guy. Actually stuck his bare hand in the bread basket and handed a piece to one of my friends- again bare handed. They ordered a bottle and the three of them were done with said bottle and the waiter still had not stopped by to take the other two drink orders. 40 minutes went by between them ordering their bottle and finishing it before we got a drink order in. When the remaining two were ordered only one showed up. It was 15 minutes before the waiter could be flagged down to follow up and another long delay before it did. The minestrone was bland and tasteless. However the Caesar was a hit. Food was good not great but again no waiter. No one stopped to ask if it was good and I would have liked some Parmesan for my Tortillini but was never offered. So so disappointing. Very pricey and just not worth it. Music was so good. Loved it. Pro tip don’t sit at tables under the awning on the terrace unless it’s winter. You will burn up. No air. The service staff was excellent keeping water filled as well. Just not worth it. Will not be back.

Simple Neighborhood Italian

By Glenn Almack |

When I want an Italian Lunch, Carbone's is where I dine. The restaurant has a contemporary edge, but is casual in its concept. The restaurant has a comfortable feel with some great food and service. Salads, Specialty Handmade Pastas and Sandwiches provide lots of options. I love their lunch special. A 1/2 Turkey Hero Sandwich and a Cup of Escarole & White Bean Soup were perfect. Nice to just sit and read, or linger at this restaurant. A full selection of Italian Wines makes this a popular spot. Glenn Almack

Best Pork Sandwich

By Iris C |

This has been our favorite neighborhood Italian for a while, especially for dinner. Consistent quality, fresh ingredients and attentive service. My recent visit was for lunch and waitress Anna very enthusiastically recommended their Thursday feature which wax Roast Porchetta Hero which was simply delicious! Ingredients are: Berkshire (yes - not just any pork - which Chef confirmed that they use in their wonderful meatballs as well) Pork, Provolone Cheese toasted and topped with Broccolini and Relish.

Excellent Dinner

By Cheryl J |

Enjoyed a very nice dinner after getting a reservation at the very last minute. The restaurant had no availability but we were able to get in. It was well with it. Our servers were Eslam and Daniel and they were attentive to our table. We choose for our appetizer the Tuna Calabrese. IT WAS AMAZING! For our entree, we had Spicy Rigatoni, Grilled Asparagus, and Dover Picatta. While they raved about the Rigatoni, I was not impressed with it. It was tasty but I could have skipped that and gone straight for the Dover Picatta. It is deboned at your table and it was the best fish I have ever eaten. The sauce was amazing! Overall, I would definitely go back. The atmosphere was nice and laid-back, the food was very good and the service was excellent.

Will not return

By Marty L |

Carbone Italian was a huge letdown for my mother-in-law’s 80th birthday. The food was heavy and just okay but the service and policies were the real problem. They refused to let us place flowers on the table and tried to charge $120 to cut and serve our cake. They would not even cut one slice for her without the fee. It felt unwelcoming, inflexible, and like a money grab. We will not be back.

Better value, food, and menus nearby within walking distance

By H l |

$183 for 2 wines, 1 x 2nd course small steak + 2nd course salmon (albeit profoundly delicious), and 2 sides of broccoli. That's it. No main. No app. No desserts. Felt pressured to order 3 course "per chef". Didnt. 2 restaurants at one place... carbone and vino. We were at Vino since there was no wait. Separated by row of plants. Service was not as one would expect at such a price point.... even as the' lower' end Vino. Clumsy cutlery and plate ware exchanges, resting bottle on glasses, interrupting conversation. Can definitely do much better nearby at much better value. Wont be back.

Very good neighborhood restaurant

By Tom M |

Carbone's is basically Italian and serves excellent pasta made fresh. My favorite is the lasagna bolognese. It is not stacked up like the usual cake-like affair and has fewer layers but it is a generous portion. They also have a spinach version as well as spaghetti and other pasta, some shrimp and egg plant dishes. They have a fish of the day and a very good Caesar salad which they will split for you. The soups are also popular. On Sunday they have a multiple course prix-fixe offering of several courses that usually has some interesting or even unusual items. At lunch sandwiches are on the menu. The wine list is more than adequate for their style of cuisine and prices for wine and food are reasonable for Dallas. Dinner for two with wine and tip will run about $85. OK for kids though there are not a lot of them usually. Clientele ranges from young couples to elderly. No dress code - people in t-shirts and jeans/casual/business casual/coats and ties mixed. Carbone's draws people from the Oak Lawn/Turtle Creek area as well as Highland Park. The service is excellent and prompt. Unlike lots of restaurants they have plenty of staff and have divided the work between actual waiters and people who handle water and clear tables etc. Management is present and attentive. There are no reservations so going around 6:00 will avoid a wait. Atmosphere is OK and noise level is a bit loud when they are full. Really about normal. There is a very wide selection of dry pasta for sale and I think they also have take-out .

Great experience

By cclakeman |

Totally enjoyed the meal at Carbones! The food from appetizers to salad to the main course was wonderfully prepared. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting good italian food. It has become my number one choice for Italian in Dallas.

food to go

By MarfaDizzy |

love the Italian sub/grinders. We called our order in and swung by to pick up on way to Memphis. Think the chips are homemade as well? good wine selection

Good, convenient but not great

By CliveWatkins |

You want to like it hear, easy to get to on Oaklawn, friendly people and good service as well as generous portions. To me it's always about the sauce , the meatballs and the basics...that make an Italian restaurant worthy of note to us. Variations of other dishes of course is important but the sauce and the breads and the favors...the garlic...say your Italian. It's here that they they are just okay, decent, and just okay. I expected more character and found as use too meaty and boring with a far too chewy meatball. It's an Italian restaurant for Americans in my opinion, doesn't make it bad, just temper your expectations.

Good food bad service

By Aleescandonm |

We arrived and we were the only table. The staff was rude. Half of the menu they didn't have at that moment. We had pasta and tasted very good.

Pure and simple

By Seayeaitch |

Delicious simple ingredients perfectly presented check out the product to buy . They work on the principle start with excellent materials prepared with love and this is the result Try the cake it's to die for...

Terrific

By Flint34 |

Great calamari with two sauces and fresh bread are a good start. The lasagna is very good. Plenty of wine options too. The tortellini is excellent.

Haughty Italian

By pollytalknyc |

This is a very popular restaurant and it is best to reserve, but we had an early dinner 5 pm and no problem. Though highly rated I was disappointed in the eggplant pamigiana as several pieces were hard, then, too, my friend had linguine with shrimp...just 4 rather average size. I guess I expected too much. They rave about their buns...quite honestly I thought rather average. As we dined the place started filling up and yes it became packed.

Emperors New Clothes

By BigDGastronomic |

Wow -- thank goodness for the delightful waiter because the food was the worst Italian[ish] food I have ever eaten! Obviously Julian has not enjoyed true antipasti -- Carbone's version is ridiculous, shredded ice berg lettuce, a few slices of the smallest pepperoni and chopped up Pistachios --- WHHAAATTT Sunday Gravy -- if you are going to list "Sunday Gravy" on your menu, you better represent, ugh another disappointment -- two words, "Pine Sol", yes the sauce tasted like a cleaning detergent! Carbone's is an Italian Nightmare --

Missed the mark

By Jeff F |

So the atmosphere and service at Carbone's was great, but the food just did not measure up to the price point being charged. The prices here are what you would find in Vegas or at a really high end place like Monarch or The Mansion in Dallas. I do not mind spending $$$$ for a dinner, and do it all the time, but the food has to measure up. Here are a few specifics. 1. The Calamari was fine, nothing special, 2. The Jumbo Shrimp Scampi were just not good and at $32 per piece was just a bad deal all around. 3. The Lobster Ravioli was very firm and did not have a whole lot of taste, 3. The Dover Picatta was nicely de-boned table side, but the sauce was very bland leaving not much but a grilled fish. The wine list is great, especially if you are a Barolo lover, and I would say that was the best part of the meal. Perhaps it was just an off night in the kitchen, but we will not return.

Dependable top-flight food

By Bart W |

Carbone's is one of our regular stops. Food is always great, staff always competent and pleasant, and the setting always conducive to a relaxing meal. Pretty much everything on the menu is good - a limited selection but still plenty to choose from.

it was the worst dining experience ever

By R2538RHjohnw |

I frequent restuarants in Palm Beach so I know what a great restaurant experience is I walked in with a pair of $100 shorts and was refused seating in the indoor dining room....had to sit in their outside room in 90 heat. My veal parmesan was burnt with very little sauce....no taste whatsoever. I found a hair in my spaghetti pomodoro. After the waiter took our order, very rarely saw him again...his assistant took over. $700 for 3 people....ridiculous

Wonderful Dinner

By SusanC |

Walked in a Saturday night. Had a lovely relaxing dinner. Service and food were excellent. Wine choices were excellent. Great atmosphere and plenty of free parking which is a plus in Dallas.

neighborhood Italian home made

By Hidrfoot01 |

Nice casual restaurant in the Park Cities area. Pastas are fresh and sauces are delicious. Not acidic. Portions are average and service is friendly and non obtrusive.

A Great Find!!

By DallasCouple1 |

first time trying Carbone's after a recommendation from a client that it was the best Italian in Dallas. Well, it was pretty good! Nothing fancy or gourmet-ish. Just great homemade pasta (several types of homemade noodles), cheeses (ricotta, mozzarella) and the sauce was very tasty. For a starter, we tried Bruschetta of Tomatoes & Balsamic, and Marinated Baby Beets w/ Mixed Greens, Apples & Gorgonzola. We each tried something different-eggplant parm, spinach lasagna, Lasagna Bolognese, and Tortellini Vodka. No one complained and there were no left overs on the plate. So very good and fresh. I would recommend Carbone's. Very friendly and neighborly restaurant. Great price point and they offer take out.

Quick & Good dinner while in Dallas

By emersona817 |

Small intimate casual dining suitable for couples or business Eggplant Parm was terrific, great sauce and lots of gooey cheese. Beat salad was off the farm fresh. Appropriate proportions. Bistro atmosphere. Attentive service. Menu is somewhat limited, which is good and bad

Decent Italian food

By Nate H |

I went here with a few co-workers based on some feedback that this was the best Italian food in-town. I would say that the statement was a bit generous as some of the food was decent (spaghetti and meatballs) and some was great (lasagna bolognese). If I hadn't heard the glowing praise I may have been more impressed, but I would make a trip back if I was in the neighborhood.

Spectacular experience!

By Bridget H |

I have had a fantastic experience at Carbone's, thanks to the manager Mark Jodinskas. The service was flawless, the food and cocktails were spectacular. I recommend Carpaccio followed by the Spicy Vodka Rigatoni. Not that this was a deciding factor for me, but Kim Kardashian has said that the Rigatoni dish was her favorite pasta dish ever. I highly recommend this pampering experience!

Great food; no place for a conversation, however

By lydiamom94 |

We regularly visit Carbone's on Sunday evening on the way to theater. Our servers routinely manage to get us our food and get us out on a tight time-frame. Kudos to the staff and kitchen for their amiable help. The only problem we have, and it is sometimes quite significant, is the level of noise/poor acoustics in the restaurant. Surfaces are uniformly bare and so the racket, even on early Sunday evening, is pretty discouraging. We often take older friends with us on these outings and find conversation to be almost impossible.

Terrible experience

By farmherr |

Extremely disappointed with the whole experience. Service was lacking, food was mediocre and it was absolutely terrible.

An Italian Favorite

By Constance H |

We get takeout from Carbone's on a weekly basis. Their Eggplant Parmesan is the best I've ever had. My daughter likes their Grilled Italian Sausage with Polenta & Pepperonata. Both are consistently excellent. We have dined-in and the service is superb. Only complaint is that it's a bit noisy due to the concrete floor. But, the concrete floor contributes to the market atmosphere. Carbone's is a great neighborhood Italian find. We'll definitely be back!

ALWAYS GREAT!

By damsel2009 |

One of my favorite spots for a quick bite- especially weekend brunch when they have the best French toast in town and an amazing polenta dish. Take out is also good- best of all, they have BARK Chocolate- my favorite take away dessert!

Sunday Gravy!

By Sea Ya' I |

My wife spotted this restaurant while grocery shopping nearby. We attempted to make reservations but were told only large groups were reserved. Nevertheless, we went on a Friday night. There was a long wait for a table but there is a very small bar in the back where a cocktail could be enjoyed. However...no tables or chairs...standing room only. Surrounding the bar is an Italian deli where the restaurant sauces and pastas could be purchased along with other commerical deli items. The crowd was social and some great conversations took place while waiting. We were seated at a very small table in the middle of the restaurant traffic. My first thought was that this was not going to be good. What changed my mind was the good food and wine that was served and promptly. The servers and staff...and the customers...are all laid back and that is good for this location. No stress allowed. I ordered a pasta with Sunday gravy. I had no idea what that was even though I grew up in an Italian neighborhood. The server explained that all the meat sauces left over during the week were combined and served at the Sunday meal. Thus the Sunday gravy was a mixture of all that was left over. I was not disappointed. I am not sure what I ate but it was very, very good. There were meatballs, sausage, and more. The pasta was cooked to perfection! At the end of the evening we took home two different kinds of ravioli, freshly frozen, to enjoy at another time. (And, we did.) Prices were very reasonable for both food and wine. The wines were lined up on a wall so you could read about them in advance and make your selection while waiting. The ambience is nothing fancy but the food and wine deserve a visit! We will return.

Great Pasta

By Paul P |

We have been wanting to visit Carbone's for some time as we fans of Julian Barsoti's more expensive venues. I can assure that Carbone's is every bit as good as Nonna and Sprezza. We split a Caesar salad and the warm ricotta appetizer. Both were good and it's a very nice touch at this price point when the server splits the salad for you on two plates. I had the spaghetti and meatballs (Carbone's is famous for its meatballs). The spaghetti was obviously house made, fresh and properly al dente. The marinara had just a hint of kick to it. Spaghetti is usually not good as left overs, but because it was al dente it survived the microwave well. My wife had lasagna. I usually stay away from this as it is can be so heavy. At Carbone's the lasagna is light. I don't know how they do it but it is very satisfying. The restaurant is also a food market during the day so it is very informal and a bit loud; the perfect place to bring your children. The waitstaff was very professional. There was about a 20 minute wait on a Sunday night but we amused ourselves with wines by the glass while looking at the food market wares. The only disappointment was dessert. My wife ordered tiramisu. It sort of followed the lightness theme with the lasagna, but tiramisu should be a bit decadent.

Great food

Fresh Pasta..perfecto!

By febreze51 |

To have this jewel of a restaurant in our neighborhood is the most wonderful delight! Just walking into the restaurant you smell the scents that make to senses jump for joy! The fresh pasta dishes were amazing, and the sauces were perfectly seasoned, and you couldn't ask for a better meal‼️

Best Italian in Dallas!

By 3laurenkelly |

I absolutely LOVE Carbone’s!!!! One of the best restaurants in Dallas! The spaghetti is the best & very filling! I just wish they offered sparkling rosé by the glass but otherwise no complaints. You go there for the food though, not necessarily the drinks, in my opinion. Such a great date place & very reasonably priced! Highly, highly recommend!

My personal favorite is the Eggplant Parmesan. They are know for their delicious meatballs too

By beaharper |

This place is a neighborhood gem.Be sure and visit the freezer case for their frozen lasagnas. You should call ahead, to make sure they have some. I keep them in the freezer all of the time!

A Big Disappointment

By James H |

We eat at Carbine`s a couple of times a .both. After our experience today we will not be returning. The restaurant was not busy this Saturday at noon--only about five tables. We both ordered the Lasagne Bolognese. 25 no ties later the waiter came back and said two more minutes. Ten minutes later he brought out our dishes. Both were cold. We sent the plates back and left. We will not be returning.

Great Italian for Dallas

By Dfwboi |

Eaten there many times. To go orders as well. Always get the Sunday Gravy & Spinach-cheese lasagna. Great pasta and dedication to quality food. Jonathan always takes care of the final prep and does a great job of making sure all is well. We continue to make Carbones a regular stop for us!!

WE HAD A SPECTACULAR TIME

Excellent fresh yummy Italian food

By Jordan S |

The restaurant is inconspicuous in a shopping center in Highland Park. It's clean and modern looking. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The food came out as ordered and fast. We had the St. Louis ravioli with marinara sauce and we weren't disappointed in this St. Louis fav. Plus the delicious, fresh crisp Caesar salad. We also had the Sunday daily special of fried pizza dough .... yummy! You doesn't like rolled up prosciutto and cheese deep fried with the homemade marinara sauce for dipping ! Yes please ! And don't forget the crisp (not hard) cannoli! We will be back!!!

great food

I have never had a bad meal here. Very consistent. Casual and a lot less expensive than their sister restaurant Nonna.

Always Good

This place is the place to have delicious, consistent Italian food. Their lasagna and Eggplant Parmesan are excellent. You can not go wrong here.

Does Nostalgia Cloud Judgment?

By drpaulDallas |

Dallas is a funny town. People patronize a restaurant sometimes more for its nostalgic connection than to the quality of the food. Perhaps the quality erodes over time and they just don't notice it because of its emotional connections to their own histories. In any event we went to Carbone's with two other couples last night. Nothing about it was superior to other Italian restaurants in Dallas, although from the way they price their food you would expect more. We began with a completely unimaginative caesar salad in which you could not taste even a hint of anchovies. My wife had a pasta with vodka sauce. She was not impressed (the vodka sauce at the very less tony but still excellent Besa's is much better and much less expensive). I had the veal parm, one of their pricier dishes. The waiter assured me it was the chef's favorite dish. Unremarkable, undistinguished. Over-cooked actually and tough. (Chef's favorite or waiter's favorite as the 20% tip is mandatory for groups of six?) I thought it odd that the waiter brought no bread to our table. When the meal was over I asked him why that was and he told me customers have to ask for bread or they don't bring it. It would have been nice if he had asked us if we wanted any. Wines are overpriced as well. We skipped dessert. My final thought on this place is I don't get it, but then I have no reason to be nostalgic there and pretty sure now I never will be.

Great food but Pricey

By BRtravel_12 |

Stopped here in a recent trip to Dallas. Food was great, but small portions and pricey. Menu was fairly limited. Service was great, waiters were very attentive and courteous. Salads were very tastefully. Caesars salad had only 3 leaves of romania lettuce. Lasagna was very good, fresh pasta, but lacked meat. Spaghetti was also fresh and meatballs were very tasty with the sauce. Good wine selection. All seating is located in one area, so it was fairly noisy. A great neighborhood Italian restaurant. I would go back.

good service, average food

it was a nice experience but the food is average compared to other pasta restaurants....the service was very good.

Creative Upscale Italian In An Unpretentious Atmosphere

By Eno G |

The kitchen obviously takes great pride in creativity, and each dish was an excellent example of how you can clearly taste the difference when ingredients are freshly made. Even a simple dish like the spaghetti with plum tomato, garlic and basil, had the kind of zest you can only get when when the sauce and pasta are both fresh made. The same was true with the hand cut linguini with shrimp scampi. The grilled shishito peppers and (very)spicy broccollini were excellent appetizers, but when we saw the fried ravioli at the table next to us, we wished we had tried that too. Our salads were just as fresh and creative, with the Marinated baby beets with maytag blue cheese and apples being the standout. With this kind of creativity in the kitchen, a wide variety or offerings, an attentive waitstaff and lack of pretense, this place should be a solid hit with almost anyone.

ALWAYS a consistently delicious meal!

By febreze51 |

Every time we visit Dallas we go here. The pastas and sauces are fresh , delivered to your table while hot, and the atmosphere is elegant, yet very comfortable. Our group of 4 all had different dishes and we all were highly pleased after our plates were emptied👍🏻. You will never go wrong here....they treat you like you ARE special because you dined with them.

Disappointing, below average homemade italian despite vibe/service

By bkskye |

You walk by a joint. It looks inviting. You read up on it. People generally enjoy it. Basic and in-house, fresh, simple. That's what they say. This particular evening, pulling another couple with us who trust our food sense, we enjoyed a bustling mix of families and couples and tables of friends as we were seated. Service was attentive but unobtrusive. Two appetizers and leisurely pace of wine by the glass worked for all of us to start the eve off well. No bread served once seated nor offered. Afternoon sun by the window will likely be murder come summer time. Blinds work but the heat radiating from the windows already noticeable on a warm sunny spring day. Minor details/heads up. Then the food arrived. I have eaten calamari in many joints -- from mom and pop to mass produced to fast food to upscale seaside joints here and abroad. This must rank among the worst. Hard, crunchy to the point of noisy when you eat it. Mostly batter and no flavor. Could have been eating fried chicken bits sadly. I kept looking for a flavor nuance in sauce. Bruschetta better but not memorable nor very flavorful. Salads were large enough to split and again nothing to tell Mama about. Lasagna, eggplant and pasta specialty items were equally disappointing, small portions relatively and non-descript. If this is basic and homemade theme -- most home cooks would likely opt to stay at home or chose a much less expensive franchise experience for same or better food. Love good, really good, simple but thoughtful Italian (hard to find in Dallas) but this experience was disappointing

CARBONE DALLAS is HEARTLESS

By kjatennis17 |

CARBONE DALLAS is HEARTLESS - Carbone Dallas has a cancellation fee if you don't cancel the reservation 12+ hours prior. My family flew in for parents’ weekend to visit one of our kids who is in college. We needed to tell our kids sadly that one of their parents have cancer and did once we flew in. Needless to say, we ended up canceling our reservations for that evening with over an hour prior to our reservation time as our family didn't want to go out. We were unable to speak to someone but had to respond on RESY via text to cancel it. I received a $300 cancellation charge and I know the table didn't go empty as it's a big weekend for parents coming in to visit their kids. I tried emailing the restaurant 4 times. Asking if we can reschedule. NO RESPONSE. I also emailed the restaurant and corporate to explain. NEVER HEARD BACK. Life happens but I find how they handled our situation heartless. Also, I did eat here a previous visit and their lettuce on the Ceaser salad was so pink, which for their price point it should not be pink. So many other amazing restaurants in Dallas vs a company that is brutal with life happenings and don't respond.

Night before Christmas Eve

By SReiter45 |

Went there the night before Christmas Eve with party of 15 after nice carriage ride through Highland Park. Had several good appetizers - best was fried ravioli; out of calamari. Shared lasagna and veal parm. The veal was quite good, not so much the lasagna - spoiled by my wife’s. Service was good and treated us fine.

A New Favorite Italian Restaurant!

By northdallaswoman |

My husband and I ate at Carbone's late this afternoon to catch an early dinner. One of my friends, who is Italian from the northeast, recommended this restaurant a few weeks ago. We arrived at 4:30 pm. A couple tables were finishing up their meals from the weekend brunch menu. The dinner menu officially starts at 5:30 pm. We didn't hang around until the dinner menu went into effect. While we had the entire place to ourselves, the staff unobtrusively put linens and candles on the tables for the dinner crowd. Simple and sophisticated. I don't think there is music playing, and the acoustics are conducive to conversation. We were definitely interested in pasta rather than the brunch specials or soup/salad. Our waiter, Matthew, was terrific in every way! We explained that nuts and seeds are an issue for my better half. Matthew checked with the chef and said that they "mill" their tomatoes, but the chef cannot guarantee a rogue seed. That's exactly how I make sauce at home, so we knew it would be alright. We each got a glass of wine, Chianti for me and a Chardonnay for my husband. I ordered a salad with 3 kinds of roasted beets, maytag blue cheese and thin slices of apple. Combined with the most tender, fresh lettuce and just the right amount of vinaigrette, very delicious. Matthew brought an extra plate for sharing. Carbone's makes their own fresh pasta! Unexpected and only enhanced our experience. I got the Lasagna Bolognese, which had pieces of beef and pork between the layers. It was not stacked very high, and the sauce was under the square of lasagna. I must say, it was perfection! My husband had Spaghetti and Meatballs. It looked like about 6 meatballs and an amount of pasta in the center that isn't overwhelming. He had some parmesan on the side. He enjoyed it, but agreed that the lasagna hit a homer. We ordered and shared house made cannoli. Two pastries presented beautifully and the ricotta had just a hint of cinnamon. Once again, just perfect! Matthew brought me a cup of decaf coffee. The cup was really HOT, which felt good in my hands since it's an unseasonably damp, chilly day in Dallas. Just right! I asked him about the temp of the coffee and he said he heated up the cup. Excellent service, atmosphere, and my new favorite Italian restaurant in Dallas. During the evening, Carbone's accepts reservations for parties of 6 or more. It's in a strip mall and we didn't have any problem getting a parking space. There is parking behind the building as well.

Mama Mia! The Wine List Is Bigger Than The Menu

By Bob K |

Friends had talked about getting together at this Oaklawn Restaurant for a while. We had a party of 11 so we made reservations for 6:30. Eight of us were there on time so we started off with Wine by the glass or Beer. Within 15 minutes, all were seated and chatting it up. Either we were very loud or the room's acoustics are lacking. We all found ourselves saying "what?" or leaning in to hear better. Thank God I wasn't horse by the end of the night. The Menu was very simple while the Wine List was extensive and short on Wine choices by the Glass. It seemed to contradict the Neighborhood Restaurant/Grocery Shop quaintness the were going for. My wife and I both ordered Linguine with Shrimp Scampi. A large ball of al dente pasta surrounded by 6 medium butterflied Shrimp. The pasta was infused with garlic-butter richness. Our portions were generous while some of our friends felt the serving size dis not justify the price. A leisurely 2+ hour dinner ended with a few of us ordering dessert. We had the Tiramisu which was light and tasty. Carbone's does have a contemporary vibe, the waitstaff is friendly and responsive and overall I believe we all had a good time. Mission accomplished.

Best Italian food

By Gloria328 |

We visited friends that live in Oak Lawn.and we all decided to try this small neighborhood restaurant. We each had something different so we could sample it. I had St. Louis style ravioli with a homemade marinana which was so good and fresh! Our other selections were the baked eggplant parm, tortellini vodka, and creste with Sunday gravy. These were all so good. The creste with Sunday gravy is a pasta dish, which they make all their pasta there, with all kinds of Italian meats. We decided that nothing was a bad pick on their men which is limited but excellent. My dinner companions enjoyed a bottle of Tuscany Maremma, Toscana, La Querciolina, Istriciaia '09. a red wine, that they really liked and paired well with each menu item. It does not seat very many and reopens for dinner at 5:30. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and the wait staff are very friendly and helpful. It is a little pricey to me for a casual meal but I think par for the location. I would recommend it if looking for a wonderful Italian dinner and price not a concern.

Good Italian food

By BrendaW319 |

This is a nice cafe that has a simple menu of Italian classics. There are white tablecloths on small tables, no booths, just smartly casual in decor. The pasta is so good and freshly made, always al dente. The Sunday gravy is delicious, and you can get it to-go in a frozen quart container for about $10, which reheats nicely. It is a nice family place with perfect, warm comfort food for a rainy day or anytime. Highly recommend!

Consistently Very good food and service.

By jeff o |

My wife and I enjoy their Shrimp Scampi. The Shrimp is butterflied, tails removed, and sauteed as it is meant to be cooked. The Linguini is always cooked properly and tastes wonderful!! We also enjoy the Ceasar Salad and the Fresh Bread they serve with your meal. Gabriel is our favorite server, and he gives good input on the wines. The atmosphere is casual and up beat. They have recently raised their prices, but for the consistency it is worth the price. We have been many times and have never been disappointed!!

Best Al Dente Pasta in Town

By tedingersoll |

Nestled on a corner in an Oak Lawn shopping center, Carbone's offers a limited but excellent menu featuring pasta. Very nice list of predominantly Italian wines that are half price on Mondays - a great value. Bustling, noisy, informal atmosphere with very professional service. One of our regulars.
