Excellent!!! Argentinian Steak Restaurant owned by an Armenian Argentinian Family. Best Steak, Wine, Desserts, Tappas and Spanish Coffees you will ever experience.

Great steak, perfectly cooked, well seasoned, worth trying. Service is nice but not experienced. Could have been better. If you’re hungry for a good steak - this is the place.

Located in a strip of shops in West Hollywood, Carlitos Gardel is my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. Whenever I fly through L.A., I make it a point to get together with local friends there. The food is spectacular the the wine choices are excellent. It is a little dark and moody inside, which I love. The service is top notch as well. Most highly recommended!

I was looking forward to a good steak restaurant on my arrival to LA. Made some research and decided to try out this restaurant. Alas, it was very disappointing in terms of the service it was a real hurried meal ... the restaurant was not even full that they need to turn around the restaurant to accommodate 2nd seating. Irregardless, that should also not be a reason. We had not even finished our starters and they were so eager to set our cutlery for our main. Clearing dishes even before we finished as well. We were placed near the window which is the most uncomfortable seat ever. Anyone bigger will not be able to sit. See picture. One probably had only like 20cm to sit, you do need the cushion as the back we’re metal railing. The restaurant should sit themselves to understand the discomfort they are putting their guests. Overall, food quality is mediocre. We gave our feedback on our experience, with the hope that they can live up to some of the better reviews.

A longtime local favorite, this restaurant retains it's "old school" charm while remaining fresh. It never disappoints and the ambience can't be beat with live music on Friday and Saturday nights. The restaurant fills up quickly, so make reservations if you can. Try the chicken in cream sauce with dried fruit (my favorite). The desserts are made fresh daily by the owner and are all amazing.

When we go back to Los Angeles, we always make it a point to go back to Carlitos Gardel. We have been going there for a long time now. It’s probably one of the best Argentinian cuisines that we have been to, outside of Argentina. The atmosphere is amazing and warm. The wait staff is always very nice and know the food and wine list very well. The food is fantastic!!! There is a right way and wrong way to make Argentine cuisine, and they always make it right. We will be going there next week and we cannot wait! We love this place!

Mini Bife a La Pimienta medium/well

Tried the skirt steak (out of this world) and the mushroom ravioli (equally delicisious). The steak was big enough for 2. Cooked to perfection, juicy, and flavorable. The ravioli was also cooked to perfection topped with pesto, mushroom, and tomato. Looking forward to dining here again soon! You will as well.

I made reservations for Carlitos Gardel for a trip that includes a stop in L.A. After reading reviews on Tripadvisor, I chose this restaurant and am very glad I did. The service was perfect and staff's suggestions were most helpful and ensured that we would have a perfect meal. The appetizers, salads, steaks and wine were all superb. I just can't recommend this place more highly.

The service was horrendous, the people were rude, they over charged and when we complained they didn't care.

Because you'll eat a ton here. Tremendous food. Service is formal without being stuffy. A little expensive -- you won't eat here every day, but will more than just on special occasions -- still a very good value because it's that good.

You will leave this place wondering why you even bother eating at less tasty restaurants. This is a steakhouse, so order steak. I ate with friends so we all had a chance to eat a little bit of one another's meal and the steaks were the best! The chimichurri ribeye ($52) cooked medium was by far the best. The pasta ($18-26) was good but nothing amazing. The half chicken ($26) was juicy and flavorful. The flank steak was good as well and the steak sides (broccoli, cauliflower, puree potato) are very flavorful. The salmon was a tad bit gamey (it's wild)($39) but some people like that flavor. Steaks can cost $49-135, the 135 steak is for 2. They have a huge wine list which we did not consume. No restaurant within walking distance serves alcohol, only beer and wines. For starters I recommend the flank steak empanada, it is like a stewed flank steak and melts in your mouth. The deserts are home made and all have dulce de Leche and extremely rich. One slice is plenty for 2-4 unless you have a sweet tooth. Overall, excellent ambiance for a couple or group of friends. Leave the kids at home unless well mannered. Service is excellent... and most importantly they are not trying to upsale you, they respect your choices. Last note, everything is organic!

My wife and I were visiting the L.A. area, and wanted a fancy dinner spot. Not knowing what the traffic would be like, we arrived early for a 6:00pm reservation and sat at one of the small tables on the sidewalk. The doors opened promptly at six, and we were seated near the back. The decor did not disappoint. We were persuaded to try the potato-less gnocchi (a special, made with spinach and ricotta), which my wife and I split. It was delicious; it had a marinara sauce and something creamy, but was still light. I had a cup of the cream of carrot soup, which was nice, not too spicy. We split the grilled branzino (another special), served with the pumpkin mashed potatoes (yum!) and veggies. We were quite full but we split the sponge cake (it was small). Service was attentive but the waiters didn't hover. The bill came to about $150, including a glass of wine (a rosé of pinot noir, from Argentina I think) and two cups of decaff coffee. Well worth it; we plan to be back for some future special occasion.

A real family owned restaurant, and you feel this in every aspect of one of our favorite places to dine in LA. My wife and I have been going to Carlitos Gardel for over 15 years. We used to live in Culver City and the drive wasn't bad at all, now we live in the South Bay and we can't go nearly as much as we would like to. If you like meat and great juicy steaks this place will make you happy. They really know what they are doing here. With so many steak house around LA this one remains our favorite. And we've try them all. The same ones you have. At Carlitos they show you that you don't have to spend $200 in an amazing steak when $60 will do. I mean really do it. And their entrana (skirt steak) is even more affordable. And sooooo good. All of their cuts are grass fed Angus beef. (On a side note my wife is in love with their spinach gnocchi and all of their pastas are homemade. And I LOVE their lamb chops)). The papas a la provencal have been a staple of this restaurant for over 20 years. You have to try them. The sweetbreads are fantastic, as well as their empanadas. Then you get to their superb wine list and you get to Maximiliano (Maxi) who's always there. This guys is good, I mean real good. A professional sommelier. He'll work with you, he won't force any bottle on you, you can go by the glass or by the bottle, no matter, he will make it work so you have a great experience. In all of my years going to Carlitos not once Maximiliano has recommended me a wine my wife and I didn't truly enjoy. His younger brother Gerard is also great. This guys understand how a professional waiter works, they have been around the world studying it, learning it and applying it. They are elegant without been pretentious (the one thing I can't stand). The restaurant itself is very small, well decorated, comfortable. If you have been in Buenos Aires this place will take you back. Now onto the desserts, their mom is the master here and boy does she deliver every time. I don't usually get dessert in restaurants but when I go to Carlitos I have to, just have to. And I always go back to "el postre de la mama" for the dulce de leche lovers. Gerard also made a dulce de leche ice cream that was so good last time we where there. No matter if we live further now and that we have to add the cost of the babysitter to the dinner at Gardel, this place will always be our favorite steak house in LA. This family has created affordable fine dining in a city in which restaurants almost take pride by being the most expensive around and very often under delivering. Not here. Relax. And enjoy. And go hungry.

Just had a prix fix Valentine’s Day dinner. It was wonderful. A little pricey but we knew that going in. Lovely candlit atmosphere. Valet parking curbside. Friendly wait staff and not too noisy.

The Best Restaurant in Los Angeles. The owner was really nice with us. The wine was also gut. A little bit expensive but really worth to order it. We will come again if we visit LA again:-)

We went here based on reviews of Tripadvisor and in the main it was as expected. First impressions were of a great little restaurant and a real buzz inside. The service, however, we felt was very rushed. For a $150-$200 meal for two I expect to be able to take my time and enjoy the experience. We felt very much like it was a case of getting us in and out as fast as possible to free up the table. For example, I have never been asked to order the Appetizer while I was "still thinking about the entree". We were not asked if we were ready for the entee and we were finished two courses within 45mins!! Definitely not "fine" dining as stated in another review and spoiled the experience somewhat for us. Also the red wine we ordered was too chilled and not at room temperature. On the plus side, I would have to say the food was sensational. Possibly the best steak I have ever had, almost melt in the mouth tenderness and even the veg was cooked to perfection and still crunchy. Had the service been better it would have been 5 stars all round but this tainted things somewhat for us. For that kind of money you have to expect a better service experience. The food was great though.

Wow the food was super tasty...a massive wine list, and amazing amzing family run service....Reminds me of Mendoza... Blood sausage was too die for...and the skirt steak cut with a fork... Will make this a must next time in Hollywood

Steaks at its best, great wine selection, the owner himself looks after the guests. Excellent service, great place to have dinner.

Once again carlitos gardel proves to be the best restaurant to have a steak in LA. The Tippo De Ojo or rib eye cap with chimichurri glaze is to die for. It is the tender side of steak that seemly would be the product of a filet, London broil and ribeye could have a baby. The tippo is king in LA. Then top it off with authentic dulce de leche ice cream and an appetizer of galic fries and empanadas that are cooked to perfection. This is the spot you NEED to check out.

We recently dined at Carlitos with a large group, and unfortunately, the experience was a major disappointment. Since we were a big party, they required us to go with a set menu priced at $145 per person. We agreed, assuming it would be a smooth and worthwhile experience. I will say the food was amazing, however, when I came home and calculated everything that we ate, (had we ordered without the set menu) I realized we had been overcharged by $1200. The ambiance was far from what you'd expect from a steakhouse. We were directed to the patio, which we had to enter for the alley - not exactly a warm welcome. To make matters worse, the bathroom felt like a porta potty and every time someone flushed the toilet, we felt it under our seats. That's not an exaggeration, the plumbing seemed to sun right below the floor, creating a physical rumble that was impossible to ignore during a meal. For the price, and the lack of ambiance, the experience was far below expectation.

I had been with my father many years ago when the menu was simple and flavorful and the noise level reasonable. I went following the tripadvisor recommendations and because I figure if it was still there it must still be good. Well McDonalds is still around and it doesn't make it a good place to eat. Out of 4 full meals only the portabella Mushroom appetizer was well seasoned. The price was outrageous for the quality and the flavor of the meals. The place was so noisy you could not have a conversation. We ate as fast as we could and left. I was embarrassed that I suggested this place to my friends.

Wow, the steak is better than when I lived in Argentina! Get the parillada for two $40, and make sure to eat the meat. Great wine selection and desserts as well. One of the best restaurants in LA, but without Beverly Hills prices

It was such a pleasure meeting Gerard and his brother Max. They are such gentlemen. This is steak heaven. Great quality cuts and cooked perfectly. We were a group of 10 foodies and wine nuts. The staff really understands taking care of people like us. The garlic French fries were great. The tomato and cheese dish was really tasty. The beef tongue was flavored very well. The sweetbreads were also great. The bread and Chimichuri was amazing. I could not keep my hands off it. I had the ribeye cap as my main course. It was cooked perfectly, med rare. The marble in it just made it so delicious. The house made ice cream with Madagascar vanilla beans and 18% butter fat was the best ice cream that I have had in forever. Fabio our waiter did a masterful job with taking care of ten foodies. It will not take me very long to return. It was a very special dinner. It is fairly small and it was packed so I suggest you make recommendations.

I had one of the best meals I've ever had in Los Angeles last night! Every bite was perfection! And the chef, the owner's mother, is exponentially more talented than most of the designer chefs around. Divine gnocci, unexcelled steak with chimichurri sauce. Yum! Warm deletable bread. Probably the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. An incredible salad with super fresh tomatoes and sweet red onion. Several different indescribably delicious homemade cakes.I would come here every day if I could. The best of the best! And the maitre' d is a total doll. 100% fantastic experience.

After having missed Valentines Day date last monday(due to work and our schedules), I wanted to do something special for my girlfriend. I researched and found what I hoped was the perfect restuarant, I found "Carlitos Gardel". Carlitos is a small, intimate, cozy, 18 table restuarant with full service, an amazingly detailed wine list with a sommelier to answer all your questions, and food that absoultely outstanding!! After starting with a bottle of flat water and couple glass of malbec(argentina, which fits their theme), we were served bread and a oil/garlic/and herb dip, did I mention garlic! It was sure tasty. For our appetizers we ordered the homemade empanades(one of each, chicken;beef;spinach and cheese which was the best) and the special of the night appetizer "caprese salad" which featured "burratta" mozzerala and the freshest proscuttio. Burratta mozz is the most amazing cheese that is some velvety it just melts in your mouth. For dinner we choose both the specials. I ordered the Lamb special-medium with pumkin spiced mash potatoes and fresh vegs, my girlfriend got the Gnocchi special in the pesto, alfredo, marinara sauce. Both of these dishes were absoultely amazing, especially the lamb(which had no sauce with it, and by no means needed any). For dessert we ordered this chocalate cake with a caramel middle and was again tasty(little rich for me, but the lady loved it, score). Overall enjoyed my experience and would definitly recommened to friends, family and others. The menu is a little pricy, but the food is defintly of a very high quality, so you get what you pay for. Dinner for the two of us was almost $200 total, but again well worth the experience. The only thing I would of liked more was a little more music to inhance the overall experience of the theme, the music speakers were on low, however I believe they have live music on the weekends. Again, all in all, a Perfect finish to an already Perfect day!!!

I took my cousin who was visiting from Buenos Aires, Argentina to show off with my favorite Argentine steakhouse, the Best in LA, on Sept. 21. Staff was attentive and friendly from the amazing host to the great servers. We had the burrata and prosciutto entré which was melting in our mouths. Then we had the recommended incredible Tapa de Ojo and Skirtsteak seasoned and cooked to perfection with the signature Papas Fritas provenzal and my favorite De La Casa salad. All sides are delicious and desserts are all made in-house with love. Amazing service as always, romantic ambiance. Brothers Max, the Sommelier, and Gerard the Executive Chef gave us the best recommendations. We ended the meal with the famous and decadent Postre Gardel and specialty coffees. Returned for dinner two days ago with my great friend visiting from Chile. Same unforgettable experience!

Nice place, food is good, service almost not friendly and a bit snobbish, pricy,it's difficult to find paking

Every time I go here it is divine! EVERYTHING is cooked to perfection. I try other restaurants but always end up back here. So delicious! Such nice people! Such artful food. When you eat here you truly get the most for your money. YUM!!!

I had not been in years, but saw all the great reviews, and it reminded me how much I loved this restaurant. It did not disappoint. For starters, the beautiful hot bread served with a boat of their famous chimichurri sauce (they have it to sell in jars too!) sets the tone for what is to come. We had the caesar salad (great), the melted provolone (get it, just get it), then we had the lamb chops (marinated for 2 days in red wine and rosemary, and also the skirt steak simply divine. The special on thursdays are worth making that your night to dine here. They serve their own recipe paella and let me tell you, it's FANTASTIC. The wine list is extraordinary and the desserts (their mom makes them!) are surreal. Definitely try the mascarpone pie with a thin layer of dulce de lece, an incredible crust and covered in chocolate ganache. The owner (gordon, I believe) is so warm and so knowledgeable., and our waiter Brian a delight and completely helpful and professional.

We found this place by coincidence and what a great surprise! We had the best experience and everything was just perfect! Especially the quality of the food and the service! The place can be a bit pricy depending on your choice of food and wine, but in our opinion it was worth every penny! Would recommend this place anytime!

Our check was over $300 for two people, was it worth it? Absolutely not. Genuinely confused how this place has 4+ stars which brought us in. Service was subpar. 18% gratuity is AUTOMATICALLY added to ALL checks. Terrible service? Doesn't matter, they are getting 18% tip. We ordered the platter ($150), most of the meat was tasty; however, at this price, you'd be better off going to Fogo de Chao, you will get more meat for less price and way better service. Overall this place is nothing special, service was subpar. We had to try several times to get our waiters attention. Bar man initially refused to give us 3 tastings to taste the wines before ordering. I have many Argentinian friends and they are all kind, friendly people. Really not sure why this place doesn't have the same culture and vibe. Will not be returning and recommend you don't go as well.

I was with my family near Los Angeles for a wedding, and it was my uncle's birthday, so we decided we'd take him somewhere nice. Since we were heading to Argentina about a month later, we wanted to try Argentine food! This restaurant was better than pretty much every place we ate at in Argentina!!!! The service was so friendly, the food was beyond delicious, and it was a nice and comfortable dining room! The chimichurri was the best I've ever tasted, and the mixed grill was awesome! The desserts, made in house by the owner's mother, are amazing. This place is a must-go for any person in the LA Area, even if it's a long drive away!

Visited with a group of food and wine friends for a leisurely long Friday lunch. Have been here 3 or 4 times previously with same friends. We all agreed the food was terrific, especially loved the lamb chop course and the rib-eye cap course. Service was excellent, ambiance fun. This is a great place for friends or couples.

This jewel of a restaurant can fool you from the outside, but once inside it is very intimate, warm and inviting. The service was superb, and the steaks are outrageous. We split the 14-oz rib-eye, with the chimichurri glaze, which was plenty of meat for the two of us. The steak was very juicy and favorable. We paired it with a wonderful Malbec wine. For starters we had the baked garlic, and a Caesar salad....a very enjoyable experience. We will be back.

A great find! We took the other Trip Advisor reviewers' recommendation and were not disappointed. Wonderful service. The owner came over and explained to us the specialities. We tried the ribeye cap, it was out of this world! Even the penne bolognese was fantastic. The wine was good too and not too expensive. Highly recommended if you have not tried Argentine- Italian cuisine.

From the minute we walked in the staff were great settled for some of the specials the mussle's were fantastic and rack of lamb tender and cooked to perfection whole family loved this place hopefully will be back soon thanks for a great evening

I guess I shouldn't have been surprised by how much I loved the empanada. What did surprise me was how much I liked the pastas. I had a pre-fixed meal with a mix of pastas, mushrooms, and yes, meat. Lot's of meat. The New York Steak with the highlight of the meat items for me. We brought our own wine, but if I were to go back, I'd definitely take advantage of their array of imported Argentine wines. The wine room was pretty cool too. I'm sorry to say I had never tried this gem before last week. I need to go back. Soon. This place kind of spoiled me for other restaurants because the service was so good. What a pleasure.

Special occasion fine Argentine dining in LA, with extensive wine list and excellent Malbec selections. Impeccable service. Although pricey, expect a fine dining experience.

This is a really unassuming little place nestled between a photography place and a lingerie shop, and truly a treasure! We made reservations for their patio and could not walk through the front to get to it, it's an entirely separate entrance in the back alleyway. It certainly looks much bigger in pictures than it really is! I came for my birthday with my husband and our six-year-old daughter and we really loved everything, though the service took some warming up to and could be improved. Just not very friendly. We had an empanada appetizer, steak for two, a side of spinach and a vegi corn medley, plus a bottle of Terrazas de los Andes (a cab), with a bill total of around $340. But it was worth it - food is cooked to perfection here and I highly recommend it.

Two of us for lunch -- seriously the best lunch I have had for many, many moths. The food was outstanding and the wine, even some of the cheaper glasses complemented it well. Service could not be faulted. Altogether a very memorable lunch, and the food and service made it special! Really, I cannot rate it too highly.

Had a wonderful meal with my daughter, both of us going with specials (lamb chops and branzino) rather than their standard meats. Great service. Solid wine. Cozy, charming atmosphere. Top 20 rating a bit inflated, but still a definite thumbs up.

Carlitos Gardel is a nice Argentinean restaurant where you can enjoy not only great stakes but also a good selection of wines. This restaurant is a great combination of good food, nice ambience and great service . My recommendation is to start with “Empanadas” and share (up to 3 people) a parrillada (selection of all the Argentinean cuts).

Look. I am an Argentine food snob. Very particular about my beef. This place is straight out of 1920's La Boca, but cache. I nearly cried as I took a bite out of the papas fritas. The empanadas should not be missed. The bife is sublime. The desserts are made everday by the owner's mom. Might just be the best desserts I have ever had. We ordered all of them. I had a flash back of my father playing me Gardels tango on our record player. This place was is my California Buenos Aires.

Very nice atmosphere and servers. Everybody was helpful and knowledgeable. Portabella $12 - Grilled Portabella Mushroom, layered with melted provolone cheese, sautéed spinach and feta cheese - very good, of course, because it's smothered in melted cheese! Pasta Di Mare $22 - Fettuccine tossed with mussels, shrimps and mushrooms, in your choice of tomato or cream sauce - HORRIBLE! Completely bland, mussels were dry and rubbery. I have never had such a poor tasting pasta dish. No seasoning whatsoever. They never asked whether I wanted cream or tomato sauce. The Salmon special was pretty good. Pretty disappointing first experience, however. Visit date: November 2011

This is almost the best kept secret in LA ... if it didn't get so busy ... I guess the secret is out. Un-assuming from the outside but a lovely, high end restaurant inside. The service staff is excellent throughout and will suggest what you may like but everything I've had in the 5+ visits here over the past year has excelled. Opening salads are excellent, or go straight into some of the best sweetbreads or boudin noir. For the entree's it's all about steak and the go-to is the ribeye cap. A cut I've never seen anywhere else - and which is one of the tastiest and most succulent pieces of meat I've had. I'm unfamiliar with most of the wine on this list - and the sommalier has never steered me wrong, or over-priced. They don't have a full bar, so wine or beer it is! Don't forget a killer espresso at the end. It's not cheap - but it's quality and you know you've had a great and satisfying meal.

Expertly prepared meats and amazingly fresh ingredients in every dish. The smell of the place is intoxicating and the food does not disappoint. This family run place is simple and unassuming but provides a fantastic experience. I cannot recommend it highly enough! We had a great time and will be back whenever we can! Delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We ordered skirt steak and Rib eye for us, and milanese for our daughter. The meat was served well done, rather than medium-rare we ordered, but was still delicious and juicy. One of the staff was very kind to us, the other one almost rude for a reason we don't understand. Certainly recommended to meat lovers

Very cosy restaurant, excellent waiters with plenty of attention. Live music but not too loud and not inteuding. Valet parking. And great food. Had an excellent burrata as an appetizer and a very tasty ribeye as a main course. Not cheap though. But a real recommendation!

Everything is exceptional. My wife is Argentinian from Buenos Aires and this is where we go for special occasions. It is without question the finest Argentina restaurant in Southern California and one of the best restaurants overall in Los Angeles. The fries, the morcilla, the asado, the service, the dessert...it is all wonderfull. Highly recommend!

This is such an amazing restaurant! My friends and I love going here on a night out on the town before going out and enjoying the city, the staff is very nice and prompt and is never tardy. The chef's need a kudos they really do prepare the food in the very best way possible.

I had the feeling for a meet, we found the Gardel Resturant through a friend recommendation, dinner was very straight forward, starter and A STEAK for two to share, an unforgettable porterhouse medium rear, and soft like cream

EXCELLENT FOOD & SERVICE!!! The 3 of us came here for lunch on Friday (the only day during the week when they're open for lunch). We had heard and read that this was one of the best Argentinian restaurants in LA so we were excited to try it. Our host/server Max was charming and accomodating. He explained the specials of the day and the different cuts of steaks. Everything sounded good! We started with the cream of asparagus soup (hot and delicious) and the cold beef tongue salad (tender and nicely complemented with roasted red peppers and spring greens) and a beef empanada (delicious). They also brought out complimentary bread (3 large freshly baked rolls) and chimichurri sauce. Then we had main entrees of skirt steak, ribeye cap and filet mignon with marsala & mushroom reduction. All of the steaks were tender and cooked to the desired doneness. We couldn't resist the garlic fries so we shared an order of that. The fries were perfectly seasoned and not greasy at all. I couldn't stop eating the fries although I was getting full. Although we were pretty full at this point, we couldn't pass on dessert especially when Max brought out a display platter of 4 homemade cakes and pastries. I can't remember the exact ingredients but we ordered 3 of the 4 cakes. They were brought out on individual plates and beautifully presented. We also ordered the Dulce de Leche ice cream (both the plain and the one with chocolate chips). We had coffee with our dessert and that was delicious too! The service was excellent! Between Max and another waiter, we always had our water glasses kept full as well as coffee refills. All in all, we loved our dining experience! The restaurant is decorated beautifully and gave a cozy yet casual feeling. As a bonus, the bathrooms were very clean. This place is not cheap but the delicious food and excellent service made the cost worth it!

Very nice skirt steak, ask fir chef's recommendation. Fits perfectly with house's Pinot Noir. Great location. Fast service.

After three weeks in America we were desperate for a decent meal. Well this place not only provided that but excelled. The service was extremely friendly and prompt. The food was excellent and my steak was cooked perfectly. There was absolutely nothing we could fault. They even offer valet parking.

I have been going here for 20 years and love it. Always great food and intimate atmosphere. Great for families, romance, business, and those that read and eat alone!

Girard greeted us at the door with a friendly smile and led us to our seat. This place is great for steaks. The steaks are flown in from Argentina. The skirt steak is very flavorful. The desserts are homemade daily by Girard's mother. I would highly recommend this place. It is a great place for a wonderful and romantic evening. The staff is great and hospitable. We truly enjoyed our evening.

We have visited Carlitos Gardel many times over the years, usually to satisfy a craving for a great steak dinner, and it never disappoints! This small, elegant, family-run restaurant is pricey but offers absolutely delicious steak, lamb and seafood dishes, very good-sized portions using quality meats, perfectly cooked to order. They have a select wine list. Desserts, which are mostly home-made, are worth the splurge. Service is superb. Live music on weekend evenings. This is a great place for an intimate, romantic dinner, as well as for a small group or just a couple's night out. Expect to pay plenty for your meal, easily $50 per person all told, more if you order from the collection of mostly expensive wines, but it sure is worth the splurge!

Since my partner is from Argentina and we go there once a year, we had very high expectations for this posh restaurant hoping to taste the flavors of his homeland, but were disappointed. We didn't find a lot of traditional dishes on the menu, while we found dishes that are definitely not from Argentina, like New Zealand lamb and gambas al ajillo, he said the provoleta wasn't spiced and didn't taste as usual and we were expecting a better quality for the meat too (we had lomo and molleja). Wine and dessert were also meh. The service was good and fast, we had a particularly good experience with our sommelier who was nice and knowledgeable, while we were somewhat weirded out by our server's bombastic attitude. Nice atmosphere, with music but not too loud and cozy lighting.

too expensive for what you get

I brought my two kids here for dinner, because I saw this favorable LA Times review of this restaurant. It's a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant near the Hollywood Bowl area. We had reservations for 9:45PM on a Saturday night, and the place was still packed. The tables are rather small, and so it would be a stretch to get a large party in here, I think. There was live entertainment throughout the evening, with somebody playing keyboards, and various other people singing. What were they singing? Argentinian songs? Nope. The two times I asked our waitress, it was a Greek song, and then an Armenian song. The same went for the dinner. I have absolutely no idea what Argentinian food was supposed to be, other than that the steaks were supposed to be pretty good. So we ordered steaks. I stayed conservative. One was the Filet medallions, a total of 10-12 oz of steak. The other was a 14 oz. ribeye. We split the two steaks between the three of us, and there was still more than enough. And that's the key to the pricing of this restaurant. The steak entrees seem expensive, running from $30-45 each, but unless you can eat a 14 oz steak by yourself, you will more than likely split the cost of each entreee in half with another person. The steaks were FABLOUS! Better than many steakhouses! Not the slightest hint of any off-putting stale or chemical flavors or excessive "meatiness". Lightly seasoned with an herb that I couldn't quite identify, excellent grilled smoke flavor. I should mention that we ordered both steaks to be cooked medium and when I asked the waitress what that meant in this restaurant, it meant pink, no red. Both steaks arrived undercooked, with the center bright red and raw. But our waitress graciously brought them back for re-cooking and the second time around they were perfect. I had this vision of the movie "Waiting" as we did this, but everything seemed fine. We got one of the mixed vegetable salads, which was very good. The kids didn't go for any of the appetizers or dessert, which I gather is what makes this place "Argentinian", So we missed out on that. The opening round of bread looked like a French baguette, but had a unique consistency - crustier and more crumbly all at the same time. The bread was served with olive oil, vinegar, and herbs combination rather than butter. This turned out to be terrific. I did want to try an Argentinian beer, and they had this Argentinian brand called Quilmes (in a bottle, no draft beer). I looked this beer up later - this brand is like the Budweiser of Argentina, with a whole family of beers. In fact the mega-conglomerate InBev now owns both of these giant beer companies. Don't remember which beer they brought out - I presume the standard lager. But this beer tasted very much like a standard weak and flavorless American light beer, like Coors Light or something. Very disappointing. I did ask the waitress if the steaks came from Argentina, and she said no, they couldn't get steaks from Argentina - so these were homegrown American steaks. So, at the end of this dinner, I wasn't sure what was so Argentinian about this restaurant (more my fault, since I didn't feel that adventurous). But it did have some of the best steaks in the world!

It is impossible to have the supreme flavours of Argentinean steaks outside Argentina, but the food here is pretty good. Don’t miss the rib eye, mocilla, tongue, sweetbreads, or the dulce de leche ice cream! The cozy atmosphere is endearing. On certain nights, there is live music, but alas, no tango!

A small family owned restaurant that serves authentic Argentinian dishes, the place is cozy and easy to find on a major street. Everything we ordered was good and the desert was the best at the end, they have good Argentinian wine also.

Fantastic food. We celebrated our 10th anniversary here. Nice service. Small and quaint. The ricotta/spinach gnoche melts in your mouth. Also the pumpkin mashed potatoes were exceptional. We shared the large rib steak and enjoyed it, but later wished we had eaten lighter as it was very rich for us as we usually don't eat that heavy. Very enjoyable and I'd go back.

They're friendly, the menu is wonderful, and they know how to back it up. This was a wonderful dinner. I had the sweetbreads (which, judging from earlier reviewer's photos, has thankfully been simplified): so delicious! But it's big enough to be a entre. I wish there was a way to have this amazing dish but not in such a huge portion as to render the rest of my meal shortened. Don't get me wrong: I'm not complaining about the food! Just that you're giving me so much of it! (Irony!) ... The skirt steak - amazeballs! Incredible! These folks know how to cook steak! (though, to my taste, needed a touch of salt).... the chimichuri is GORGEOUS! The wine list is a dream. GO EAT HERE!!! But beware: portions are HUGE!

We visited carlitos as part of our hour roadtrip: after having spent more than 2 months in buenos aires, we have mainly been disappointed by the the quality of the meat... more than one third of the bife de chorizo was pure fat... incosistently with what we we exprienced before... for a priece well above international standards... can't recommend, sry!

Hadn't been to Carlito's in at least a couple of years. I don't know why we stayed away - it is terrific as ever! The service was excellent as always. Very professional yet friendly. Our waiter had wonderful advice on the food and the wines which were all spot on. Started with wonderful noccis that were toothy yet tender - just the way i like them. Followed with a Spinach empanada and a couple of different salads - all great. My entree was the Ojo de Costilla - a prime ribeye marinated in chimichurri and brought to the table a perfect medium rare. I don't eat so much meat anymore but once in a while, you gotta have a great steak like this. The wine list is extensive with great selections from Argentina and Italy. Be sure and save room for dessert as Mama is still in the kitchen making wonderful sweet creations. Try the Dulce de leche cake - a fantastic ending!

I went here with my family to get a little taste of Argentina before I head to Buenos Aires next month. I have heard that Argentina has great meat, but if the meat in Argentina is anything like the meat at Carlitos then I am in for quite the treat! Huge amounts of food, tender, delicious cuts of meat, and great wines to top it off (the "Malbec" is the standard wine in Argentina). Definitely a classy place to hit up!

Gardel's is practically an institution on Melrose and in LA. Restaurants as we all know come and go, Gardel's is firmly planted to stay. Of course when you talk about Argentinian cuisine one must think MEAT, and theirs is imported from the source in Argentina. The atmosphere is European and intimate. The food delicious. This is definitely a romantic spot. go and enjoy

Carlito's is a winner from the time you walk in until the evening ends in a sigh of satisfaction. This is a beef restaurant, but not a traditional steak house a la Morton's or the Palm, but a quiet, formal restaurant featuring interesting starters, salads and entrees, which are superbly presented and pleasingly delicious. The waiters--not servers--were handsomely dressed and exhibited manners appropriate to the finest restaurants in New York and sophisticated world cities. The service was impeccable. Although the wine list is quite pricey, actually, really expensive, the staff will locate a great bottle within your price range. I usually consider expensive Los Angeles restaurants unbelievably pretentious, but Carlito's was elegant. Also, because they served identifiable food, rather than works of art which are to be savored, but not actually eaten.

I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to everyone. It is honestly one of the best restaurants in LA if you are looking for a special night out with the most insane food and service without any pretentious vibes. It has been family owned for years, and the family is all so sweet. Their maître D, Brian, is wonderful from his hospitality to his menu recommendations. Every time we go back he remembers that my fiancé is lactose intolerant without us having to say anything. They are very accommodating. Everything from the empanadas to the desserts are homemade in house, and you can truly taste the quality of all the food here. Which brings me to my suggestions on what you should order: First and foremost, their PRIME RIB EYE CAP!! Do yourself a favor and order this as your entrée. It is melt in your mouth perfection. You won't find this glorious cut of meat at many other restaurants, it is very unique to Carlitos Gradel. Another standout dish/appetizer is the Belgian Endive Salad with Grilled Shrimp in their chimichurri dressing...Also try an empanada! Honestly I can go on and on about how good this place is. Even the warm bread they give you when you first sit is irresistible. They have Lamb on their specials almost every night. I don't even like lamb and it is so so good. I also ordered their salmon special one night and it was amazing. You really can't go wrong with anything here! Enjoy!

This is an Argentinian steakhouse in Melrose Ave. We came for dinner and loved it! The atmosphere was pleasant, the service was very good and the food was absolutely delicious. We ordered tasty Empanadas, excellent steaks (Bife de Lomo a la Portabella and Entraña and very good pasta dishes (Ravioles de Porcini, Ñoquis de Papa). We are pleased to recommend!

A cosy Argentinean restaurant in Melrose. Food is great especially the Argentinean steak (one of the best in LA), and staff were extremely attentive. Worth the hype on Tripadvisor, in our opinion.

Carlitos serves one the finest Argentinian steaks in LA. I jeard they also serve good seafood but I had steaks both times I visited. The sommelier is knowledgable about Argentinian wines. Recommended.

Carlitos Gardel is one of the very few restaurants I've visited that have lived up to the hype. Their steaks are amazing, as is their signature chimichurri sauce which is made fresh daily. I tried the skirt steak, which was seasoned nicely and cooked perfectly. This is one of their signature dishes, and at 16 oz, can be split and shared. Although not obvious from the standard menu, the restaurant also offers several daily specials, usually to include lamb and some type of fish. The service was excellent and accommodating. My wife requested some type of sauce to go with her entree, and although the restaurant doesn't carry any of the commercial steak sauces, they whipped up a cabernet-mushroom-black pepper reduction that was absolutely amazing. The wine that the sommelier selected was equally outstanding. Although a bit on the pricey side, this is a place fit for foodies who appreciate great steak and service.

Amazing food! Perfectly done! Insanely good homemade gnochi, the filet was wonderful! The empanada awesome, the chorizo out of this world. The desserts are homemade. To top it all off the service is wonderful! You have to try!

Very nice location.great service.great food.everything about this place is great and they really care about delivering the best experience.five stars from an Italian family.

In a nondescript area of the famed Melrose Avenue tucked between a lingerie shop called Agent Provacateur and a clothing boutique called Lotta, is Carlitos Gardel restaurant. From its location and simple black awning, one might anticipate an interesting throwback night club upon entering. What you'll find instead is chicly designed Argentinean Steakhouse appealing to plenty of 'eye candy' and youthful meat enthusiasts, as well as those seeking to impress their dates with their culinary prowess. Now, don't confuse Argentinean with Brazilian (something I did originally when my friends mentioned it) for this is not a churrascaria. This is menu-based, but believe me, it won't disappoint. To say the meat in this place is fantastic is really understating its case. But no one leaps right in and starts with the entree, so I started my dining experience with their special buratta appetizer wrapped in prosciutto. I openly admit to becoming a burrata snob, and having ordered that cheese countless times in many different places, rarely do I find the dish to be both aesthetically and palatably pleasing. Not only was the prosciutto so finely sliced and wrapped that it melted in your mouth, it could hardly encapsulate the delicate buratta so that it would not leak out. The tender white cheese was mouth-watering to look at and impossible to enjoy slowly, as each bite required an added taste in what became a mouth-spoiling starter. Their 14 oz rib-eye served as my main course. Cooked medium rare and dabbed with chimichurri sauce, it was as tasty a steak as I could remember, cooked flawlessly. Yet I was more amazed when I tasted my friend's skirt steak. Usually skirt steaks are so thin they end up either overcooked or flavorless. This was not only moist and tender, but the juices flowed so freely I felt my mouth filling with the excess as I bit into it. Everyone at the table concurred that this was an unexpected surprise. The filet mignon in a mushroom wine sauce seemed to hit the spot for my other friend as well. We deferred to our own wine tastes and the only drawback to that is their $30 corkage fee, which I found to be a bit extreme. The ambiance is quaint and friendly, but not for people who are seeking a quiet hole-in-the-wall, something this restaurant might appear to be from the outside. You certainly will hear your neighbors and will find your friends snugly planted next to you. For dessert, we tried both a chocolate torte with dulce de leche creme and another cake which offered some apples layered into a sweet dulce de leche icing. Along with coffees, the entire bill for six people including our one bottle of wine, came to approximiately $480, tip included. If you want to get into the mood before hand check out their website, a noirish, 1940's throwback webpage with South American music to boot. http://www.carlitosgardel.com/. If you're in Los Angeles, and want to experience a terrific steakhouse without breaking the bank, try Carlitos Gardel. It's a fulfilling and delicious culinary experience.

It was place is in movie -family business gangster restaurant:)all the tame I was waiting that someone will open the front door with the gun:)))food was very tasty,waiters-very polite and fast,prices-normally and plates with dish-big!if you have time-can go there and taste good Italian food and interior!

After HOURS of searching for a location that serves acceptable quality grass-fed meat, we settled on Carlitos Gardel on Melrose. One son is gluten free, the other follows Paleo and only grass-fed would be acceptable. We were celebrating one birthday and one 1st year anniversary. This was a great selection. We started with appetizers of burrata and the mushrooms. We were a party of four and each of the appetizers had three pieces. I gave up my sharing of burrata and 1/2 of the anniversary partner gave up a mushroom. We ordered assorted beef dishes and none of us was disappointed. We took a pass on dessert/coffee. The house served a delicious scoop of dulce du leche ice cream with a candle for the birthday boy.

I've lost count of the times I've been here but it's certainly more than any other restaurant in Los Angeles. I've never had a bad meal here - and everyone I've brought has enjoyed it. The one dish I have to have is the rib eye cap - something not seen in all steak houses but has the best of flavour and texture. Good wine list, great service, low key and quiet restaurant without being pretentious. I cannot say enough good.

It's hard to find a restaurant in Los Angeles that offers the trifecta of Great Food, Excellent Service, and a Pleasant Atmosphere. (Too many restaurants want to be a "scene", with blaring music that prevents dinner conversation.) So what a pleasant surprise awaits you here! First and foremost, the menu is full of wonderful choices, and not all meat, although that this their strength. Starters of mussels in a red sauce and grilled blood sausage were full of flavor. The mussels were cooked perfectly, so plump and juicy. For the main course, we had the prime sirloin with mushroom sauce (on the side, as suggested by the waiter), and the lamb chops. Both were prepared perfectly. A dessert sampler was an added surprise, and we managed to do it the justice it deserved after that amazing feast. The wine list is full of gems, but stick to the Argentinian wines (when in Rome, etc.). We had a CabSauv from the Mendoza region that was superb. By far the best part of the evening was the attention to detail in the service. This is a family-run business, and it shows. You are family the moment you walk in the door, and their enthusiasm in talking about their recipes, wines and family is contagious. In 2.5 years of travel to Los Angeles, this is certainly one of the best dining experiences I have had. Nice to see that some people still "get" quality restaurant service. Do not miss it.

Last week we visited Los Angeles, coming from Detroit, to meet with a customer. They recommend a lunch location, Carlitos Gardel. Upon arriving at the small restaurant it seemed nice but nothing special stood out. Boy was my first impression wrong. Traveling a fair amount for business and pleasure I get to experience many restaurants and this one ranks as one of the best. It's an Argentinian restaurant with an emphasis on beef. The menu is not extensive but it's varied enough to please everyone. If you like beef, however, you will be especially pleased. I first enjoyed the grilled pork sausage appetizer and my associate loved the beef empanada. Our table had the skirt steak salad and the ribeye steak sandwich. All the portions were large, so you'll likely have some to take home with you. The service matched the quality of the food, amazing. Seek this place out. It will be worth your effort.

This is a terrific restaurant in Hollywood/West Hollywood. The wait staff was insightful and helpful. The wine list is on par with the quality of the establishment. The appetizers we had were empanadas and flavor and texture were exquisite. Had the 16oz steak and it was the most tender meat I’ve had in years, very well seasoned. Not even a dash of salt was needed as the flavor was just perfect. Must do next time back. The ambiance is perfect for date night. Would keep young kids at home.

Great steaks, awesome Parsley covered french fries, and the pianist all make this for a great dining choice in LA.

Outstanding family run business. Owners and staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The decorations all have meaning to them, they just aren't pictures they found. The beef is amazing. If I closed my eyes I would have believed I was back in Argentina. Ask what special cuts they have that aren't on the menu. You won't be disappointed. Best served Argentina style with a large steak on a wooden platter in the middle of the table served family style. I'm a fan!

The food was excellent and the service was amazing! Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, specials and the wine list and his recommendations turned out to be great. He was also very friendly and carried on a pleasant conversation. I really dont think you can go wrong with anything thats on the menu. The meal was just as good as when I travelled to Argentina. I will DEFINITELY be going back!

Carlitos Gardel is on Melrose which is a busy street, so make time for the drive so you can get there at your reservation time, and make reservations. The food is very expensive as is the wine, so maybe save for a special occasion. We found the prices to be worth it for the food and way too high for the wine. The place itself is very cute. It is not super fancy, it is just very pretty. You may wait a minute or 5 to be seated, with reservations, but you will be happy you waited. Once seated we found the service to be super good. The sommelier was just a little too special acting for me, but he did offer a great selection, but the pricing was too high. But the wine was great. We love their empanadas, and you can get those as an appetizer. Next time I will be eating nothing but them and a lot of them. They are that good. The filet we ordered was cooked rare, exactly as we wanted and it came with fresh and super tasty asparagus. We also had mashed potatoes which were amazing. Their New York Steak was splendid. You will love it. Everything there is great. I don't think they allow a bad item out of the kitchen. The service was very nice and over all we had a great time. Have fun.

Fantastic Argentinian restaurant on Melrose. Great steaks, staff very friendly and helpful. Would recommend booking beforehand

Must say as I m a very difficult and judging person, my favorite Los Angeles restaurant. Great service 10, excellent food, killer ribeye from one to 10? 20!!! Thank you

The dining experience at Carlitos Gardel is excellent for the complete satisfaction you receive: food quality and preparation, wine list, kindness of personnel, layout of tables, romantic atmosphere. All is the rigth combination for a wanderfool moment. Number 1 in my 20 days US holidays trip. Ciao, from an Italian exigent guest!

Nice and classy restaurant. Professional service. Great steaks. This restaurant is great for romantic dinner.

Great food, wonderful Malbec wine, good service, I would recommend it to my friends. It is expensive, but worth it.

Wonderful restaurant. Extensive wine list and they will help in picking. Plates could be on food magazine covers. Service is top notch. Even though this is a more formal restaurant children are welcome - you can always feed them the garlic fries. Desserts are something else, a lot of dulce de leche, which if you have ever been to Argentina you know is a mainstay.

I had dinner with my adult son on a Friday night in Feb. We made reservations and could only get an early table which I thought would result in us being hustled through our meal. It was the exact opposite. This is a very cute little restaurant. The service was wonderful. The staff was attentive but not over bearing. The steaks were delicious! Cooked to medium rare perfection. So tasty and flavorful. Everything was perfect and when the Manager/Owner saw we didn't like the cake we chose for desert he insisted on serving us this dulce de leche ice cream that was incredible. The lovely lady who we met on the way out was so sweet and seemed very happy we were leaving the restaurant as such happy customers. I can't wait to go back. The one thing to consider.... this is a beer and wine restaurant only. The wines are not inexpensive but after a glass or two that wasn't an issue. :)

Delicious food, great wine selection and even better service. Ask questions and you will get a lesson in good food and wine. great experience.

Went Last tuesday with my in-laws for dinner to the Carlitos Gardel. It was there first time ever. And they enjoyed it from the beginning to the end. This restaurant is owned by a real Argentinian family and they put a lot of heart & soul into every detail. The service is outstanding. The food is incredible great and authentic. The wine menu has everything you can ask for...and even more ! The atmosphere is as Argentinian as it's possible. When you would close your eyes for a second you could imagine yourself directly in San Telmo, Buenos Aires. This place is a real oasis in L.A. and I can only recommend everyone the house made Gnocci & of course every meat plate on the menu. The garlic fries and the fish dishes are also exceptional great so it's really hard to decide what to eat. Simple the best restaurant in L.A. !

We went here for our 40th wedding anniversary and I would recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. The restaurant is plain on the outside, but beautifully decorated inside with white linens, large mirrors & pictures on the wall. My husband and I divided the Ojo de Costilla a la Criolla (14-oz rib-eye, chimichurri glaze) $48. My son ordered the Lomo a la Marsala (8-oz filet mignon, marsala wine-mushroom reduction) $39. Both meals came with sautéed vegetables & pumpkin-puree mashed potatoes. Both meals were wonderful and flavored to perfection. We also split the Ensalada Caesar (romaine, anchovies, house-made croutons, house-made Caesar dressing) $12. It is hard to find a Caesar salad with anchovies in it. For dessert we split the dulce de leche cake – so good! Although the prices are high, the meal and atmosphere was good. There are many restaurants that have good food, but are lacking in class. This had both.

From the moment we walked into this small family gem we knew it was going to be a great experience. We were greeted by the owner and her son. After being seated we were quickly served water and the sommelier, another son, came by and gave us attention for wines. At the time, we had no idea that our server was Gerard and Sommelier Max, sons of Carlito and their dessert magician mother. Our meal felt like a nice home experience with friends and family. The difference was that it wasn't home but a small restaurant tucked away on Melrose. This is a hidden wonder. Argentine food with flair. I only wish my stomach could handle the entire menu. We gave it our best shot and blessed our hotel receptionist with the most tasty and expensive takeaway bag i have ever given away! We launched our culinary flight with a prawn and endive salad that was incredible. The tangy and savory dressing was oregano and parsley based with tomato vinegarette. The sweetbread is dangerous with the chimmichurri as it is addicting. Be careful not to fill yourself with the bread and chimmichurri. Our next item included mussels bathed in a tomato sauce and garlic and parsley french fries. We finished the meal with a unique piece of tasty meat cut from a ribeye. It is called a ribeye cap. It proved to be one of the best entrees I have enjoyed this year. The meat was tender and flavorful capturing the marbleization of the ribeye with the moist and juicy flavor of a filet. This is an incredible piece of meat. The menu was full of other great items I plan on going back to enjoy ... empanadas, chorizo, salads, chicken dishes and pasta to name a few. The tragedy of the meal was that I left no room for dessert. The lineup was nothing short of fantastic. As stated earlier, mom is the baker and she holds nothing back with the dulce de leche based creations. Nonetheless, we enjoyed Gerards special ice cream with a spanish name meaning granite. It is like rocky road but with a greater depth of flavor. Lastly, the staff were professional, attentive and friendly. It was as if we were eating with friends - professional friends that wanted us to enjoy our meal and experience. We did! The decor is old world and charming. I highly recommend you enjoy this special California establishment. We will be back.

This is a small and cozy restaurant. It was recommended to me from a friend from San Francisco. I had the privilege to be served by the owner a young handsome man who helped me to choose my menu and a great dessert made by his world class chef mother. You should go and eat their food. Very nice it was far better than what I expected. VERY GOOD!!!!

We were just there this weekend and overheard someone commenting on reviews they read somehwere describing the food served here as average and to their surprise everything they tried was beyond good. We have been enjoying Carlitos Gardel for almost a decade and the food has ALWAYS been delicious. You will enjoy great customer service and a magnificent ambience whether you are having an intimate date or a gathering with friends. Even my father in-law who is a picky Argentinean has given his approval. We recommend the provolone, the papas fritas provenzal, and my husband LOVES the desert cake balcarce which has dulce de leche. I love flan yet the one here is not the best but maybe that is because my mother in law Irene makes the BEST FLAN EVER.

My wife and I were visiting LA for our anniversary and decided to try this restaurant. We made our reservations through OpenTable and I indicated it was our anniversary; we could not have had a finer meal or service. The restaurant is located off of Melrose in an area you wouldn't expect to find such a nice restaurant. I'm not suggesting it is a "bad" area (it isn't) but it feels tucked away as though you'd miss it if you weren't looking for the restaurant. But, there is great food to be had if you venture inside. This is not your typical steakhouse as it is done with an Argentine flair both in terms of wine, preparation, and food selection. My wife and I split a chicken empanada for an appetizer which was extremely well made; we might have had a salad or another empanada but we wanted to save room for our main dishes. My wife decided on the gnocchi with bolognese sauce while I had a Tapa de Ojo ribe-eye; I'll take each dish in turn. The Gnocchi was extremely well prepared but the best part of the meal was the bolognese sauce. As this is a very good steak restaurant the sauce was not only sweet and savory but had rich helpings of extremely tender meat. If you want a hint of the quality of the meat, while not committing to one of their cuts, I'd recommend this option. My Tapa de Ojo was one of the most tender and well-cooked steaks I'd ever had. I like my meat medium rare and their preparation was right on the nose, the meat crumbled in my mouth. The meat is of extremely fine quality so you shouldn't worry about paying alot for a cut of meat that doesn't, well, cut it. We decided to split a dessert that was fantastic - a chocolate cake with vanilla ice-cream and dulce de leche sauce. The cake was warm and moist, the ice-cream either made on site or they have purchased a very fine brand. A fabulous meal that we enjoyed tremendously and really made our anniversary special. Wine Selection: A comment on wine deserves a section all its own. The wine selection is, in a word, huge. The wine selection is, honestly, a bit overwhelming which is why having the assistance of the sommelier is recommended. After ordering our meal he came by to give us a series of selections that would work well with our menu. For our empanada a sparkling white wine while he also selected two very fine reds for our respective main dishes. I wouldn't hesitate to ask for advice as the sommelier was both helpful and decidedly not pushy. He was not attempting to push us on $300 bottles of wines - he saw we were looking more at wine by the glass and so made recommendations to fit our budget and what we ordered. I also appreciated that he still pushed us to enjoy some of the selections that made their restaurant distinct, specifically in terms of Argentine selections. Atmosphere/Service. The restaurant is well laid out with low lighting and an O-shaped corridor running around the restaurant. One of the nicer elements of this set-up is that the wait staff and Sommelier could wander in circles attending to each table as needed. The staff was exceptionally well-trained in that they were exceedingly attentive without being in the way. Water glasses were refilled, plates were taken away, and yet our conversation or private dinner was not interrupted. If you are used to "How is everything?" right as you've taken a bite of food? That will not be the case in this restaurant. It made for a very pleasant evening and one we could enjoy.

This is a fairly small, charming restaurant on Melrose just west of Fairfax. We were there for a special occasion dinner, and had a wonderful time. Comments on specific menu items: The Hongos Rellenos are fabulous; they could be a meal by themselves! But you also MUST try the Papas Fritas Provenzal, which are just great. As for the beef entrees, two in our party had the Churrasco Portabella, two had the Ojo de Costilla a la Criolla, and another had the Entrana a la Parrilla. I would say the Churrasco was by far the best (and was perfectly prepared); the Ojo had too much fat for my liking, and the Entrana was tough. However the flavor in all of them was marvelous. Another member of our party had lamb, which is not on their online menu, and said it was great. The staff, by the way, is terrific - friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable about their menu. I heartily recommend Carlitos Gardel!

The restaurant is small but cozy, it has live music, there was a pianist playing on a Friday night when we were there. It is homey and what makes it more special is that it is run by its owners, a friendly family that offers you an awesome personalized service. The menu is not extensive but it has options for everyone. Since it is an Argentinean restaurant, the Argentinean style grilled meat is what most of the customers order. The starters we chose were fantastic: empanadas, provoletta (grilled cheese), and salads: Caesar, house salad and watercress salad, and the meat was out of this world and grilled to perfection. Our entrana and tapa de ojo were served in traditional Argentinian's wood platters, with side dishes of cauliflowers, broccoli and a delicious mash. Desserts are made by one of the owners, though we didn't try any, we have seen customers in other tables, enjoying their succulent desserts to the last crumb. Pricey, yes....but it's worth to pay a visit to a restaurant where food and service are out of this world.

For someone like myself, who is a lover of both Argentine cuisine and Gardel, this place is heaven! The place is cozy, but with all of the images of Carlitos, it is like walking into book of his life. This place is family owned and it shows in the care they take with everything. I have been dining here on special occasions for over 10 years and I am always greeted by name and asked how my family is doing. In fact, I took my husband here on our first date and when I told the waiter, he brought over a bottle of wine and said it was "compliments of the house"...I looked back at Carlos, the bartender and he gave a wink of "good luck".. when do you EVER get that kind of treatment from a restaurant? Carlos is the father (which is why the actual name is "Carlito's Gardel") and runs the wine/bar. The food is all prepared by the mother using family recipes. Did I mention that the food is to die for? I have tried nearly everything on the menu. Empanadas and Papas Provenzal are incredible; every steak is great, the "puree de papas" have a hint of nutmeg...just like my friend's mother recipe (from Argentina) ...better than any American mashed potatoes. The "panqueques con dulce de leche" are my personal dessert favorite, but they are definitely for people with a sweet tooth! They go best with some "te con leche" to finish off the perfect meal. Bottom line: If you want to taste the absolute BEST and most authentic Argentine cuisine (outside of Bs. As.), then Carlito's Gardel is the place to go. -Corrie Cataldi

We have eaten here several times and the food is quite wonderful. Can be a bit noisy at times but the service makes up for it. It's nothing fancy - just plain good. I have returned several times for a more than reliable meal. The beef dishes are particularly good.

This was the first time I went to a top rated TA restaurant and seriously wondered if all these reviewers were fake. The staff was unfriendly, the food was salty and the overall ambiance wasn't what was described. Perhaps an off night, but I didn't understand the hype.

Came with a large group (9) for a farewell dimmer for a colleague. Great food (and huge amounts), heavy emphasis on red meat (as in all Argentine cuisine), attentive service, fine wine. A thoroughly pleasant experience.

I wish we lived in LA so we could eat here frequently. Sometimes a good steak is just a good steak. But here my NY steak was thick and tender almost like a filet and it had a wonderful sauce with mushrooms and peppercorns. The salad and a shrimp appetizer were also outstanding. It is a small restaurant but the sommelier recommended a glass of wine that was a great pairing with my particular steak. He opens special bottles of wine every night for servings by the glass so that you are not limited to the standard house wines. The service was friendly and helpful. Perhaps the decor could be updated but otherwise this is a great little restaurant.

We almost didn't go in even though we had reservations, because there was no one else inside eating when we got there (at 7 pm on a Monday night). But decided that there had been so many good reviews, we should at least try it. WE were glad we did! Food was very good, and dessert to die for. We each had something different...rack of lamb, salmon, and veal ravioli. And we enjoyed it all. For desert we tried two desserts...one of which is the only place you can get authentic dulce con leche ice cream. We thought we had died and gone to heaven, it was so good. They also have a very nice wine selection. By the time we left the place was starting to fill up...we must have started earlier than the local crowd. We will definitely go again!

From the service to the food this place was just all around excellent. The hostess came outside and mentioned the free parking on the next street so I wouldn't need to use the meter which gave her serious kudos in my book but staff removed the food was also superb. Romantic atmosphere, lovely service, perfect date night.

We ventured out to try an Argentinian restaurant for the first time and we were not disappointed. The wine selected for us was excellent, an Argentine version of an amarone. I can't remember the name of the appetizer, but it was a cold chicken breast wrapped around a hard boiled egg and seasoned with peppers, which was quite good. Our entree' was a meat cornucopia with strip steak, short ribs, chorizo sausage, sweet bread, and blood sausage. Even though I wasn't a big fan of the texture of the sweet bread or blood sausage, everything was well prepared and the steak, ribs and chorizo were excellent. Our dessert of chocolate covered moscarpone cheese was light and amazing. We love trying new food and this definitely qualifies as new for us! Overall, a great experience.

As Argentinean is the best Argentina food outside from Argentina in the world, I had been in Europe and try Argentinean food and was too bad, but this place is the best!!!! You can enjoy there a great parrillada, and fantastic milanesas. Great service!!!!!!

Went to dinner here and had one of the best steaks I have ever had and I have been to plenty of steak houses. It was a bone in ribeye for two. Waiter told us that they did not use seasonings on the steak as the steak spoke for itself. I was skeptical but was he ever right. That steak roared.

We dined here 8/25/18 for my #birthdayweekendnomsmarathon We arrived on time for our reservation and was seated right away. The lighting is very romantic, table setting very home-y, and definitely feels like I'm visiting abuelita for some bomb parilla. Mussels- amazeballs. Prawn with Garlic/butter/cilantro- yazzzzz. Fries- I have no words. (in a good way) Lamb- Im not a big lamb person so Im not worthy of reviewing it. 40+ oz Rib eye- three snaps in a z formation DELISH!!!! Mash + mushroom side- delicious. Postres- say no more, fam. We got to meet the Gerald, who is the son of the owner. Super down to earth and checked in on us which is "key" on how to retain your customers. Are you listening, Osteria Mozza? Shoutout to our server who was very knowledgable with the menu and was very patient since we are Carlitos rookies. I forgot his name but he had a very charming Spanish accent thats hard to miss! We will definitely be back! xo

Superb food, refined ambiance with a touch of old world grace, impressive service, and a matchless collection of Argentinean wines. We wanted to get up from our table and tango.

Excellent Argentinean restaurant, managed and personally served by the 2 brothers who are the owners. The menu gives you a great taste of Argentinean cuisine, and then some. The meat cuts and the appetizers are to die for. They even make their own dulce de leche and homemade ice cream. The Merengue tart desert is an amazing hommade Postre Balcarce on steroids, (for those who know what Postre Balcarce once was). The wine list is extensive and they have an excellent selection of Argentinean wines, from great finds to rare high end wines not found in stores, and some even just imported exclusively. This is a great place to bring your better half, or to impress clients.

This is my favorite restaurant , The owners are so friendly, I love them . The entraña is delicious, gambas 🍤 wine 🍷, yummy !

Great argentinian restaurant in los angeles. Its a little expensive but very worth it, the steaks are soft like butter and have amazing taste. Ask for the french fries from the appetizers menu but tell the waiter to bring them with the main course, the plate is a huge mountain of fries with garlic and parleys, just delicious.

Having been in Buenos Aires several times, and fallen in love with their Bife de Chorizo, we now found one better closer to home. Delicious gnocchi, salad & steak, all blended so well with wines recommended by the Someliere Maximiliano. Great job guys!

We were looking for a great steak and that's why what we got. Large portion. Cooked perfectly. Friendly staff huge wine list. Yes I'll return.

As an Argentinean myself, I can safely say this is the best gourmet argentine cuisine in Los Angeles. Although it's a bit pricey, the meat cuts are top notch, with an impressive wine list and delicious desserts. I had some delicious dulce de leche, chocolate with walnuts dessert that was to die for! If you want to enjoy a truly good meal at a non cookie-cutter and authentic restaurant, than this is the place!

The test of a truly superb restaurant is consistency, and a couple of repeat visits have confirmed this: perfect food, flawless service, inviting ambiance, endless variety of fine Argentinian wine, and a showstopper steak empanada.

This is an excellent place for steak! The following rankings are based on the 5 star scale, the more stars the better. PARKING: 2.0 stars. Very limited to street meter parking unless you want to use their valet service. Plan on arriving early to allow time to find an open meter, you may end up finding a parking spot across the street and down a few blocks. Traffic in the area can be very busy so it may be a good idea to drop off your guests in front of the restaurant in the valet spot so you can look for parking. SERVICE: 4 stars - service is good and reservations is suggested. The restaurant is small and feels a bit tight (some will say cozy) but the servers are friendly and attentive. AMBIANCE: 4 stars. Very nice and relaxing. Somewhat formal but not stuffy, most of the clients were in dressy casual attire. There was live piano music when we had dinner on Saturday evening, a nice touch but I don't really know if it made the ambiance that much nicer since you had to talk over the music for conversation. FOOD: 3 to 5 stars. The appetizers were not extraordinary, they were in the 3 star range. We ordered garlic shoe string fries (good flavor but a bit too salty for us), spinach/cheese empanadas, beef empanadas, and chorizo sausage (this is not the same as Mexican chorizo). Bread is served warm in a basked accompanied by a bowl of chimchurri sauce, I suppose you can ask for butter but we did not, this was good. We tried Quilmes, the import beer from Argentina - we did not like this. If you are use to the more flavorful non-IPA beers then you may be not like Quilmes, it tasted like light domestic beer and not worth the $8 bottle price, a 2 star rating. Their beef is probably the best I have ever tasted, 5 stars here! The plates are served with their version of mashed potatoes and vegetables. No one complained about the mashed potatoes but the veggies were not really touched by our party though I liked them. We ordered and shared rib eye steaks, rib eye caps (this is the fattiest part of the rib-eye or prime rib cut), and skirt steak (aka; carne asada ranchera) all cooked in medium rare. The rib eyes came with a red wine reduction sauce and the rib eye caps with mushrooms. Skirt steak appeared seasoned simply with salt and pepper and intended to be topped with your chimchurri sauce from the table, it did not need it. All the cuts of meat was tender and flavorful, if you really like red meat on special occasions then this may be the place for you. VALUE: 3 stars. This place is not cheap but pretty much in line with a premium steakhouse, expect to pay $65-75 per person for shared appetizers, soft drink, and main dish without wine. Overall not a bad price on a date night for two but expensive with a party of 6 or more. INTERESTING AREA: This is West Hollywood so it is already an interesting place to people watch on Melrose Avenue and seeing an actor you recognize is often normal. We saw Lawrence Fishburne (The Matrix) park in front of us in his Tesla to pick up some food at a nearby restaurant and Ashton Kutcher (That' 70's Show) was seated about 2 tables away from us, this may have been the evening highlight for our teenage daughter.

very nice place, with authentic argentinean taste. every single cut was terrific!

A friend recommended this restaurant to us, so we thought we would give it a try. Am I ever glad we did. The food was outstanding. Their Skirt Steak is their signature dish and I know why. It was flavorful, tender and huge! Definitely a share plate. The gnocchi was delicious and again, definitely a share plate for most people. They have a great wine list with some excellent Argentine wines. My advice - adventure out of the no and try some of the Argentine wines. If you are unsure of what to order, ask Gerard and he will assist you. The restaurant is intimate but very lively and has a great atmosphere. I was thoroughly surprised by how much I enjoyed it and I will most certainly go back the next time I am in town!

Fantastic old style cooking. Fast service, and friendly staff. Very warm atmosphere. Amazing steaks.

I have sought out restaurants in Los Angeles that bring me back to the countries i have sought out the finer foods in life and Carlitos Gardel brought me back to Buenos Aires. The food was superb, the setting was classy, and the service was like I was being served by family. As we sat down for dinner tonight, we started with Papas Fritas Provenzal, a traditional Argentine appetizer, full of flavor, yet not OVER garlic'd. I then was caught inbetween a few items on the menu, so our host for the evening Jimmy, recommended Tapa de Ojo de Bife, which is the Cap of the Ribeye cut. However it comes in approximately a 10oz steak instead of what you would normally find a cap being 2-4 oz. I elected to go with the chimichurre glaze and by no means was I disappointed. The Steak to be best described was cooked perfectly medium rare ( I am stickler for meats to be prepared as ordered, as my culinary instructors always had grilled me on). The marbling of this cut was phenomenal, and I have to say that even in the top steak houses in Los Angeles, its near impossible to compare. The Glaze was definitely a must as well, it took this meat from great to excellence. I dont want to disinclude the golden mashed potatoes and grilled mushrooms as they were delicious, but this steak was one of the best Ive had in Los Angeles. And then I got word of their desserts... I have been searching for real Dulce De Leche ice cream in Los Angeles since the moment i discovered my first time in Argentina. I HAVE FINALLY FOUND IT ! Carlitos Gardel makes Argentine style Dulce De Leche ICE CREAM! And that wasnt the only thing I got to have for dessert :) . An old world recipe of two traditional Argentine cakes create the family recipe of Postre Gardel. A dulce de leche based cake that is old world meeting the NEW. A super light mix of two different cake blends, fresh dulce de leche and whipped cream. An out of this world finish to an excellent meal. I promise next time I will take pictures !

We went to dinner, everything was exquisite, with unbeatable quality and flavor! We tried carpaccio, scallops, burratta with raw ham, stuffed mushrooms, prawns, tender sweetbreads, chorizo and black pudding. We ordered eye of a show and skirt steak, the best meat I've eaten in years!! We served it with French fries, very good!! Dessert was a must: granulated dulce de leche ice cream and cakes, each one better than the other. The coffee, the best in Los Angeles. Anyone who lives or visits Los Angeles cannot miss out on indulging in this restaurant. Attention 100 points!!

My wife had visited the place before and told me that she had the best steak ever. She was right! We had a 16 oz Prime skirt and a 12 oz Prime Ribeye Cap. The flavor is very rich in both of them. It is very difficult to decide which one is the best, but I would probably vote for the Skirt. You can't go wrong with either one though. The size of both steaks is more than enough, even for those who eat a lot. Except from the steaks we only got a De Berro salad, which is simple but very good to wake up your appetite because of the vinegar. Add a glass of Carrascal Mendoza 2010 for USD 15 and a bottle of water for USD 8 and you end up with a check of 150 USD without tip. If you like meat and you can afford it, I definitely suggest this restaurant. I've had steaks in many restaurants around the world, and this one is among the top of them. A slight drawback is that we asked for a rare Ribeye Cap, but it was served medium to say the least. However, the "Cap" was so rich in flavor that it was probably better medium than rare.

Best Argentinian food in la...

The fillet steak was ok. Totally not phenomenal. The portobello mushroom as a starter was very good. Service was very professional

Where to begin. . . I love everything about this place. The service is exceptional. The food divine. The wine list, even better! They are all about making sure you have a wonderful time, and making sure your beverages and food are the perfect match. The depth of Max's knowledge of wine is amazing! From appetizers, to entres, to deserts. . .everything is truly remarkable. Give it a try. You won't regret it!

They have a great wine menu, steaks were delicious. Waiters were very helpful. Decor could use some updating.

Booked via opentable and left a msg to the restaurant that we are celebrating our anniversary. Main courses we had the rib eye cap and skirt steak. We requested medium rare and the meat was well cooked to the point, very tender and juicy! The red wine they recommended was really good and easy to drink. Staff are very helpful. Got good information regarding food choices. When the dessert came there was a candle lightened for our anniversary :) its a tuesday night, the atmosphere was casual and we enjoyed the meal very much!

We had an amazing dining experience at this family run restaurant. We are bringing our daughter to college and wanted to have a special meal before we dropped her off in L. A. They definitely delivered. The steaks were amazing. I also enjoyed a mushroom pasta dish. The wine list was most impressive. My husband was happy to have an authentic Argentinian beer. Don't miss this family owned and operated restaurant .

I've dined at Carlito's for the past 22 years and this family run joint is one of the best white glove service restaurants with authentic Argentinean dishes, wines and deserts. The place is always packed with patrons and consistency of their dishes is mind boggling. My favorite is the Skirt Steak that oozes with flavor and jumps out of the plate!!! Attentive service, quite and relaxing ambiance, huge selection of wines and Argentinean specialties like no where else.

We went to this restaurant because of our love of Argentine food. We had the Matambre al Pollo for an appetizer and it was excellent. For entrees we had the Milanesa and the Pollo con frutas, both very typical Argentine dishes. Bot were superb. We topped it off with Panqueques dulce de leche which was incredible with housemade dulce de leche, something you rarely get even in Buenos Aires. The service was very attentive. Overall it was a lovely experience.

I booked a table based on the reviews on here and I am glad I did. It was by far one of the best dining experiences in LA I can remember of. The place is cosy and makes you feel at home. The food is delicious and the staff extremely attentive and knowledgeable. Certainly a restaurant I would recommend! Grazie!

Make sure you get a reservation at this great stake place. It's one of the classier restaurants in the area and they feature mouth watering steaks cooked to perfection. These guys are the real thing. They have been at this for decades and the experience shows in the paring of their menu items along with their very extensive wine choices. The desserts are handmade on site by mom and taste just as fresh as can be. Want a real dining EXPERIENCE? Then try Carlito's Gardel on Melrose.

I really wanted to love this place. The service was okay. The sommelier was snooty, the waiter was abrupt and the prices were very high given the quality of the food. There were six of us there and we ordered two bottles of wine and had expected the bill to be around $600, but when it came it was $780 and was handled the VERY old fashioned way with menu items scribbbled down in shorthand on the back of tickets with prices - making it really difficult to reconcile what was ordered with the bill. We all could not get around the overwhelming sense that we were being a bit bamboozled. I want to be clear that we did not ask for further clarification from the wait staff on all the charges - mainly because we had to be somewhere and our server was so distracted and flustered we just didn't want to deal with it anymore. Overall, the food was good, but we left with a bad taste in our mouths.

Excellent service and their garlic fries are outstanding. There is live music but it is not overwhelming.

Fabulous and elegant yet cozy place for Argentinian steaks. We like the ribeye with chimichurri for two and garlic fries. On the weekends, they always have live tango music. Great wine list...only wish they had a liquor license for pisco sours. Attentive service. Just great all around!

The ribeye for two has to be one of the best steak/meals I have ever had. The big box steakhouses are left in the dust on this one. It comes with sautéed mushrooms and mashed potatoes. It is more than enough for two people. Probably could get a third person on it also. The garden salad was also excellent and enough for two. Worth the money.

Empanada is excellent! I loved the meat and de mashed potatoes with pumklin is wonderful! Atmosphere is good, the service is good too! the restaurant is good for family, but is good too for romantic dinner! I recommend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The place isn't the best in terms of look, however the food and service is great! We took a few plates to share (rib-eye for 2, argentinian parrillada, french fries and spinach gnocci). We also shared the ricotta cake with dulce de leche for desert. Had excellent argentinian wine. Would recommend this place for couples or quite night out

Not too many places in LA still recognize how wonderful a linen covered tablecloth sets the stage for what can be a fine meal. The Argentinean menu is all homemade & presented beautifully. Skirt steak is one of the best anywhere, the empanadas light and flaky. The ensalada de la casa was flavorful and plentiful enough to share. The caesar was spectacular! The garlic fries were delicious. We shared three of the desserts for the table and they were all divine. The rich dulce de leche with peaches and meringue and a light cake was incredible, the chocolate incredibly rich. There was a yummy homemade dulce de leche ice cream as well. The wine list is long with something for everyone. We ordered French wines and were deeply satisfied. The owners are hospitable and gracious and made us feel welcomed and pampered. The service was exceptional. Our only comment was that once the restaurant filled up, it was a bit loud, making it a bit difficult for our large table to hear one another. Obviously, everyone else in the restaurant was enjoying themselves as much as we were. We can't wait to return!

Some restaurants you go to once, enjoy it and then forget about it. Not Carlitos Gardel on Melrose Ave. near Fairfax in Los Angeles! This is my second review of Gardel's because it has become a destination restaurant for us. We do not live in LA, but we travel there regularly and we make it our business to enjoy dinner there every visit - at least once! The food is divine, the service impeccable, the wine selections excellent, the ambiance just what you would expect in a fine dining experience. There is even live music after 9:00...a very pleasing keyboard player, whose playing simply adds to the atmosphere without impeding conversation in any way. The Argentinian/Italian influences (just as in Argentine culture as Gerard explained to us) make for a wonderful selection of dishes with every course. We have tried many appetizers (the portobello with spinach is a favorite!)....have enjoyed the lamb chops, the skirt steak, the fish, the pastas - and try hard to leave room for the homemade desserts! The newest addition is irresistible - dulce de lece Ice cream with dark chocolate bits - worth going for that alone, actually!! This family owned and run restaurant (with two generations on the premises) shows the pride they have in everything coming out of their kitchen! I already look forward to our return!!

I have been driving by here for over 20 years and always thought it was a very pricey restaurant. It is a bit on the high side, but so delicious and everything is well prepared and presented. You really feel the family ownership here, not a corporate steak house. The beef as well as fish or chicken is all good. Portions are huge, you could split a main and have some appetizers. The toungue appetizer was great, not too many places do something like this. Big wine list with some good wines under $60. I will be back soon.

Looking for a family-owned neighborhood restaurant with amazing food, a warm, friendly ambiance and excellent service in LA? Choose Carlitos Gardel and you, too, will make it your "go-to" restaurant in that city with so many great restaurants! Located in the Fairfax neighborhood of LA, this wonderful restaurant , self-described as serving "Argentinian cuisine with an Italian flair" has it all. From the moment you are warmly welcomed by co-owner, Girard, to the delicious dessert (made by his mother) that you finish off your dinner with (if you have room), you are in for a treat. The meat offerings are perfectly prepared (we expecially loved the skirt steak) and the portions are generous enough to have some to take home with you. As perfect as their meat dishes are, there is plenty for a vegetarian on the menu as well, including pastas. Two appetizers are stand-outs: their portabello with spinach and melted provolone and their signature garlic-parsley french fries will have you coming back, for sure. The food and wine selections are outstanding - but we also loved the restaurant's cozy and warm feel, with soft music and high ceilings that make it easy to enjoy a quiet conversation, something we found rare in LA restaurants! We were in LA for two weeks - and went there twice - and can hardly wait to go back on our next visit.

Named after one of the greatest Flamenco Dancers of all time this Argentine Steak Restaurant is a home of regulars. Two brothers run the front of the house.. Maitre d and Sommelier they share the duties. The parents are in the kitchen and the room is filled with guests who are treated like family. Everything - specials are special here - is worth trying. Not cheap but fair.

Went to Carlito Gardel because of other Trip Advisor reviews and the location . We were not disappointed. The restaurant service was excellent and the food except for a salad was excellent. (we were not charged for the salad) We enjoyed the strip steak entree and Beef tongue and potatoeless gnocchi appetizers. . We were able to enjoy the meal and the comfortable restaurant where we could talk , hear ourselves and just ejoy a a good meal in a good restaurant

Truly tasty Argie fare sold at a premium price. Fantastic steak, good salads, sweet-tooth bulls eye desserts. Great wine list, as long as you are not aiming low on the budget scale. Not thrilled by the preppy head waiter stiff, but the owner, his sons and the rest of the staff are attentive and aim to please. Have been there more than once, and will definitely go back.

Excellent food,a big variety of Argentian and Chilean wines. You can find Argentinian stakes and a lot of things.

We were really looking forward to an amazing Argentinian steak. Steak was very good, the rest was just average and way way overpriced. 2 of us had the gnocchi which were fine. 1 had the chimichurri crusted rib steak (delicious) 2 had the wagyu short rib which was much smaller than expected but very good. As in other reviews the bill was just messy and handwritten so it was difficult to figured out but it was quite exaggerated. They charge 12$ per bottle of water so we were upset to have dropped 50$ on water!! I wouldn’t do it again, have been to better steakhouses where I didn’t feel taken advantage of.
Fantastic dining experience, even at lunch!
We chose this restaurant based on TripAdvisor reviews and were not disappointed. The food, the ambiance and especially the service (served, entertained and enlightened by brother Max, in this family owned business) were all FABULOSO! Several "regulars" came in while we were there and were welcomed like family. When we left, we felt a part of the family too.
