We found this neighborhood gem on Resy, looking for a date night place we hadn't been. Wow. Ambience, service, cocktails, food...all outstanding. We started with bourbon cocktails. My Manhattan was served with an orange peel-surrounded luxardo cherry for a nice citrus addition to the traditional drink. Nice spirits menu all around. The labneh-feta dip was out of this world. Served with the best focaccia that had a sweet/salty altogether fabulous taste & texture. I'd go back just for that and a drink every day! We shared the snapper (it's whole and prepared for 2) and the roasted carrots. Every dish was some of the best we've had anywhere. The finale of sticky date pudding was the perfect way to top off this outstanding dinner experience. We can't wait to go back with friends. Note: parking is in the hotel lot or garage and the restaurant will validate for 2 hours. There is also street parking in the area, but per usual Austin situation, it may be hard to find. Use the garage for ease. Also, we nosed around the patio (will be there in the fall/spring, although they had big misters for warmer days), pool and hotel areas. Put this one on your list of recommendations for out of town guests or a staycation. Boutique-y without being pretentious. We got some of the history of the building from our server, Hannah. Original building was a Carpenters' union hall; the rest was added on and we loved the repurposing of the old building to make such a unique restaurant and hotel.

This is a great place. We were greeted by a lovely hostess who was very friendly and accommodating. We were seated outside on their deck which was quite comfortable. The food was tasty and service was efficient. We really enjoyed the multiple starters we ordered. We will definitely return!!!

Quite simply, from start to finish, it's the best meal I've had in Austin, period - and I've been here 6 years! Whoever came up with this idea and concept was a true visionary, and it shows. Places talk about atmosphere and ambiance, but this place wrote the book. It's the coolest location in town. We were there for dinner before going to the symphony, and this is how it went. Upon arrival we were immediately greeted and shown to our table. Water was served and menus were already in place. Our server came over to take our drink orders and answer any questions about the evening's dishes. Cocktails were served and we placed our orders. We ordered three different appetizers and one entree, and our server left to put our order in. The appetizers began to arrive separately, clearly planned so there was time to truly enjoy each one. The first was six scallion biscuits with honey butter. Fantastic! We will get them anytime they are on the menu in the future. Next were incredibly thinly sliced pickled beets over a pistachio base. And then came their own version of pickled veggies including cucumbers, peppers, carrots, mushrooms, and cauliflower. Everyone of these are keepers for sure. The entree was . . . . a cheeseburger cut in half so we could share (the server's touch). Tender, cooked perfectly, delicious. But the best was yet to come. The carrot cake was so good, you may want to roll around in it first. Best I've ever had, served with a small scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream. Incredible! Net net: Everything was perfect. The entire staff obviously understands that they are in the customer service business first and foremost, and they display that attitude from start to finish, at every turn, including management stopping by to check on us. The wonderfully delicious food is just an added benefit.

The atmosphere (seated inside or out) always is comfortable. I usually enjoy a Manhattan with lunch and they recently upgraded their rye. Still Austin makes a big difference. I like the fries, now thin fries, the Carpenters Salad with its light dressing and fresh lettuce, crispy oyster mushrooms (but wish there were fewer or no poblano peppers in the dish as they don't measure up to the mushrooms), and PEI mussels with tasty dipping sauce. I think the charred sourdough could be much less charred so it wouldn't overpower the good mussels' sauce. A good, relaxing, quiet (you can hear others at your table here) lunch spot with food and cocktails to match. Even better, the mussels, and drinks are reduced price at happy hour.

Lovely setting outside and the food was delicious with fresh, quality ingredients. Friendly service.

There are many better options then this place. The ambiance is outstanding. We had several starters, which were great! The wine was great, and so were the cocktails. However the steak was inedible and horrendous. We were a party of 5 and 4 ordered the steak, a Denver cut. Inedible! The worst. The fries were great though. They replaced it with a fish, that was good. I’d go back just for drinks and apps.

But we loved it, both of us. So relaxing to hang out in. Good wine list, great food. Our next weekend in Austin we might stay at the hotel, it is pricy but in the best part of town.

Such a good vibe in here. AC was perfect and blasting on August’s hottest day on record. The bar staff is so incredible and locked in from greeting guests to making recommendations and following up with patrons. Manager Lauren came up multiple times asking i needed anything else. Nicholas made me an amazing original drink. Ask for Nick, ask for his special drink.

Staying at the Carpenter Hotel and suffering from jet lag, the easy choice was to go to the hotel’s restaurant. Generally I don’t expect a lot from that combo, but wait for it… I was lucky to get a table. Staff was nice and service minded and within a blink of an eye I got my food. Again not a good sign in many of the places i have visited. But… It was amazing! I ordered the short rib sugo pasta, and it was one the best pasta dish I have gotten ever. If I had more time in Austin, i would defo go and explore more of the menu. Thumbs up to the staff and the kitchen - I salute you :)
Carpenter's Hall is a must visit
Carpenter's Hall Restaurant located in the Carpenter Hotel is a must visit! The building was formerly a Local Unions Hall and most of the interior and exterior has been kept the same. There is a full bar with both interior and exterior seating. The cocktails are fantastic and the food was very delicious. The plates are intended to be family style, although, the portions are somewhat small. Pricing is moderate. Great place for a date, meeting/catching up with friends or just for drinks. Zach, Waiter, is the absolute best!
