Never came to check if we needed anything, I had to ask the bus boy to refill my soda and then he charged my bill to someone else's credit card!!! Raul J time for you to get another job before you ruin Casa Vega's reputation!!

We had 15 people and the restaurant totally accommodated us. The food was good, the interior was fun and tacky in a good way. The drinks were excellent. We all had a fun time and saw Andrew Dice Clay in the restaurant. We went super late (After 12am) and it was perfect.

We showed up at 6:30 with a group of 5 and had a half hour wait on a Saturday night. I don't think that it was too bad. I had the pollo asada which was fantastic! It felt a little like street tacos. The portions were really big and none of us were able to finish. The margaritas were just your average ones but did the job. It is very dark and active. The noise level was fairly high but not to the point we could not carry a conversation. The bar was hopping! Overall a good place to visit for dinner.

Nice hotel with good big size clean rooms. Very accommodating to our schedule and requests to personalize the room. clean rooms, staff is to good easy to communicate. No cons or negatives for the tour.

My brother takes me here every time I visit. Love this place. Great vibe, great food and great margaritas!!

The place is elegant offer high quality food wirh high quity service, they serve virgin margarita, delicious food, we tried lobster cassadia and lobster with guacamole. Taate was veey vokd. They have also valet parking in houses service. Highly recommended fir Mexican foid lovers

I used to love this place and enjoyed eating here every so often. I hadn’t been back since pre Covid lockdown. My mojito was terrible, didn’t even taste like a mojito. I used to think this was the place for Carne asada. Considering this entree is now $32, the meat shouldn’t have been so tough and chewy. The service was not great. My friends weren’t so happy with their meals either. I remember the starter tostada salad being really yummy. This time it was rather tasteless and disappointing. Why I have no idea. The only thing we all liked about our meal was the guacamole that was made at our table. That was yummy. We had only started our salads when they brought our entrees. Clearly they are trying to turn the tables quickly. Now seriously, when drinks are $15 and entrees are $32 etc, it seems you should have more than 45 minute to enjoy your meal. I’m afraid I don’t want to return to this restaurant I used to enjoy so much.

Hello! I ate at casa Vega with 6 others. We waited longer than expected, but it wAs a Saturday night. The food was really good. I had tacos and they were so fresh. Probably one of the best Mexican meals I've ever had. The service wasn't amazing, but good enough.

Average Mexican fare, poor lighting ( hard to read menu) No table lights or candles & poor wall lighting for tables to read menus. Have to use phone light to read menus. Hard to follow ramp, no floor lighting. Average bar menu. Nice staff overdressed for lunch time, always in PM darkness. Place felt stuffy & no air circulation felt or seen. Small place, very crowded feeling for Sat Lunch time.

We were so looking forward to casa vaga and had planned ahead and booked to visit twice during our stay. We are from the uk and huge fans of the film “ once upon a time in Hollywood” and being a special birthday we had kindly requested one of the booths used in the film. We arrived excitedly the day we landed and were greeted by we assume the owner telling us that they hadn’t checked any requests and that both the booths we had asked for were for tables of four so out of the question. There was no warm welcome, just whispering and we felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome. I explained I had added a message to ask if we could have a specific table, but they seemed to not care at all. We were placed in a busy section of restaurant, crammed in with 5 other tables. It was loud and unpleasant. The worst bit? There were plenty of booths and other tables free yet all customers were squashed into this section. The icing on the cake was seeing two ladies - not four - leave the booth we had asked for. Then it remained empty, as did the other one. The next night we visited Musso and franks. They went above and beyond. They had a birthday card for my boyfriend and after the meal gave us a free birthday cake and candles. The irony being this is same booking reservation form I used for casa Vega, it proved casa just don’t care enough. Musso without asking gave info on the restaurants history and where filming had taken place and told us to walk around and see/ sit where we liked. What a difference to Casa Vega. My boyfriend asked for WiFi to order us a Uber as coming straight from U.K. our data hasn’t synced and Casa Vega refused to give us the WiFi code even though their WiFi came up, but did order us a cab which was way more expensive. All in all it was such a let down after our expectations were so high. We will now cancel our due reservation as there is no way we would spend my boyfriends birthday here. Such a shame, as Casa Vega tainted the start of our vacation.

We have been wanting to visit Casa Vega for a couple years and we finally made the drive, and can honestly say it was well worth the wait. We drove an hour for some great Mexican food and all I can say is holy guacamole! The Casa Vega appetizer platter is the best sampler platter we've ever had....it is a must to start your meal. The food, ambiance, decor and staff (Juan L. you were great!) was just fabulous. We went for lunch to beat the dinner rush, and it was perfect. The only downside was we missed the daily Happy Hour (yes, I said DAILY Happy Hour 2:30-7pm!), but regardless it was not a huge deal. From the hot chips, great salsa to excellent and fun waiter staff, we will definitely make the hour trek again to visit Casa Vega....it was just like being at home enjoying grandma & mom's home cooking!

Talk about your authentic, home-style Mexican food...this is the place. If it's true home-cooking and Mexican sauces you crave, you cannot beat this timeless establishment. The mouthwatering menu will have you wishing you could eat more than one of the huge portions offered...all to be washed down with exceptional margarita's. The servers are classic old-school which add to the ambiance and allure of this most excellent Mexican restaurants.

Any time we are in LA we always eat here. The salsa is really good. House margarita is good. We always get the vegetarian burrito it's the best! Service is slow sometimes. Overall I would never go to LA without eating here!!

First time eating here (we had gotten takeaway during the pandemic) and was seated on the patio, which was still cold despite heat lamps. The food was only okay. Burrito empanada was a little bland; vegetarian burrito was worse. House margarita was great though. Server was a little dismissive and forgot our water altogether. Plus, it was a pricey (and the prices on the online menus are not accurate--they're more expensive now). Sigh.

Went here with friends for drinks not a meal and the margaritas were off the scale. Staying with friends nearby I clocked this was featured in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood so was keen to go. It didn’t disappoint, we were given a great table and the margaritas were amazing. Great experience!

My wife choose this place because of its common use by a remodeling celebrity on TV. We did NOT see him but did sit next to one of the main characters (the red-haired gentleman with a goatee) from a long running zombie series. But, the food was VERY good. I choose the Huevos Rancheros -- cooked to perfection -- and the rest of my crew shared the fajitas. They were also great. The dining areas are a bit dark and it is difficult to read the menu. My kids did not like the bartender because he asked them to leave the bar area in a 'salty' manner but I informed them that it is a law (but they still didn't like him). However, he did make a great margarita! We went here after a day at Universal Studios because it is right down Ventura from the theme park and easy to get to. I recommend trying it!

What can I say about this most iconic spot right here in the heart of Sherman Oaks great Mexican food yes traditional authentic charming place noisy packed busy great atmosphere great service I love that the servers still wear bowties and black vest and their hair is brushed and there’s no tattoos and you’re greeted with a smile and the service is incredible and did I mention how good is the food and the drinks incredible price point excellent it is a must whether you live in Los Angeles or you’re visiting LA and you want amazing traditional iconic Mexican this is your spot. Thank you Leon and the GM

Good was so bad I am now in search of Tums! Chips and salsa were bland - rice was tepid and the beef fajitas were tasteless, stringy and sitting in a pool of condensation! Very disappointed in the evening-

Not impressed at all. The service was extremely slow. Ordered 2 tacos and they were not very good. It was not a pleasant experience. But that is probably our fault as the only reason we went is because we remembered Jeff Lewis going there on his show. Crappy service, dark place, felt dirty.

Coming from London you'd like to think I wouldn't know how to cook better Mexican, but I do! I have been to a lot of Mexican restaurants in England, Florida and Bahamas. The Salsa was really nice that comes with the Totillas but the tortillas were ok'ish! The waitor had a sense of humour failure and went off in a huff, how petulant and unprofessional, seriously grow up! The mixed appetiser was all deep fried and tasted the same, really poor. I ordered the 'made at your table' guacamole but instead got a bowl of green that just tasted of mashed Avocado, quite frankly I make far, far, superior guacamole. A English man could teach you better...seriously its embarrassing. Then lastly thinking it couldn't possibly get worse we tentatively ordered a beef burrito just to share...just in case.... Terrible, your get a better burrito at Taco Bell or Walmart frozen section. The drinks were good, but the food and service was very poor. Look at the pictures they don't look appetising. Very disappointed was looking forward to it so much.

Our teenagers love coming here every time we are in LA. Full of twinkly lights and music, Casa Vega is an experience. The food is also pretty good. I am partial to the cheese enchiladas with verde sauce. I also like the salsa. My son got a delicious steak here (carne asada). :)

Perfect for those romantic encounters where the drinks are strong and the food doesn't matter. Tacos are good, guacamole is really good, two kinds of chips.

We just ate lunch here yesterday as my wife was craving their chopped taco salad. Mind you, we hadn't been here in 3+ years, and since we were in town, my wife urged me to stop in. We walked in at 1145a, and its a surreal experience as it was bright and sunny outside, yet eerily dark inside. Nonetheless, they quickly seated us and provided my young kids with a fun set of stickers which kept them occupied for the entire meal. I had the Taquitos de Juan while my kids had chicken quesadillas. Both were ok, but frankly I've had better food in our hood in San Diego. I will say that their portions are huge!

To celebrate his birthday, my husband wanted to have dinner at Casa Vega. So we used this as an excuse to fly from DC to enjoy an extended weekend in LA. Fly 3,000 miles for dinner? Yes, it's that good. The food is out of this world. And each time we visit the LA area, we have to have dinner at this place. I love the fajitas and cheese quesadillas, and he loves the chili rellenos and cheese enchiladas. The tortilla chips and salsa are awesome, but be careful not to fill up on them while you wait for your entrees because the portions are huge. Each time we've visited, the service has been a bit sub-par, but considering the volume they contend with during the dinner rush, I guess I can't complain too much. My only complaint is the wait to be seated. Granted, this most recent visit to Casa Vega was on a Saturday night at 6:30pm. But a 2 hour wait is absurd, great food or not. But seeing as we flew from DC to enjoy a meal there, we were committed. And no, they don't accept reservations. Would we return? Heck yeah. Would we recommend this place? Sure, anytime other than a weekend night.

Good bar, service and food. Has real old school look to it. You expect to see Duke Wayne in here having fun and a meal. Good service and a real "family owned feel" makes this place a pretty good goto place any time.

So sorry to say our experience was awful. Waiter cut me off while trying to order a drink. Never put in our food order so waited over an hour for our food. Queso came completely hard and impossible to eat. Waiter never came back ever to check on us. Had to waive down another hostess to get our bill. This place has gone down hill completely. Not worth it at all anymore. Sad to say.

Solid Mexican specialties in Hollywood royalty atmosphere. Packed on a Tuesday night. Tasty table side guacamole with fried flour tortilla instead of corn. They also provide fresh corn tortilla chips with good salsa. Had the carne asada oven baked burrito which comes with cheese over it. Good but wish steak was a bit larger as pieces were cut extremely small. Valet parking was $5 which seems silly for the neighborhood but it is LA.

A local favorite. Four generations of my family have gone to Casa Vega since they opened over 50+ years ago. We absolutely LOVE this place, as has everybody I've ever taken there. Why is this place so popular with some, and a bust for others???? The scene....and really great food...and strong house margaritas (no need to upgrade unless you want an extra shot or snifter of tequila). This place is small, seating is CLOSE at most of the tables - Making some people feel cramped, where others enjoy the energy and buzz of what going on around them. They serve food until 2 AM, and is on the expensive side but well worth it. If you are already familiar with El Coyote on Melrose in Los Angeles, consider this it's pint size twin in the Valley.

In town and had time to meet some family for dinner so we went to Casa Vega. The food was simply amazing. This is the real deal folks, authentic Mexican food. The meatball soup was something I'd never had before and it was delicious. The staff were all very friendly, the service is quick and the prices very fair. If you're in the area you definitely need to go here for lunch or dinner.

Very old building, not in a cute way. Every electrical outlet has about 10 cords plugged into it. I had the Carnitas Burrito, the flour tortilla was stale and the meat was bland. The prices in the menu are not the same as charged on the check. When this is explained to the waiter he says he cannot change the prices on the check. Over all bad food and bad service.

We had a great meal here on a busy Friday night. Our waiter was very attentive. The cocktails were good and the food excellent. They had valet parking which was handy. The decor was old style. All good!

This restaurant has great margaritas and excellent salsa. The food is great, fish tacos with halibut were yummy. Soft chicken tacos were also delicious we will be back. Service was also excellent and staff was very friendly.

I have gone here for many years, and the food has gone downhill. Everything I have tried has been very ordinary, or worse, even the chips. The lighting has been turned way down (perhaps so you don't see the food?) and service is "iffy" on a good day. The bar is small but nice; they used to have the best margaritas, but I would not be surprised if they have been watered down as well. Sorry to say, but go elsewhere for decent Mexican food. There are so many better choices.

We'd heard great things about Casa Vega, and also had seen it on the reality show "Flipping Out" on Bravo. We got to LA on Saturday afternoon and decided our first dinner would be at Casa Vega and looked forward to it. First thing we noticed was the poor (at best) re-model of the front lobby highlighted on Flipping Out. We thought, all that talk about "this" ? The only thing that was done was the back wall of lobby. The ONLY thing. First impressions............ The restaurant is very tired and looks like it peaked out from underneath the cover of a 1970's design magazine. Dark wood, old carpet, tired tile, poor lighting, old worn furniture. Well, ok, no big deal, let's get to the menu, we thought. The menu is nice with lots of options, combos, etc ....however, it's so incredibly dark in this restaurant, you can barely read it!(I had to use my flashlight app on my phone it was so dark) The food ......... My wife was so excited to try the crab, or lobster enchiladas. She couldn't choose, so our waiter said, "no problem, how about one of each? (an order consists of two). Pleased, my wife said GREAT, then I ordered the Pollo Mole ... half chicken in a rich mole sauce made w/ peanut butter. Both dishes came out at the same time w/the waiter holding each with towels and says, be careful, plates are hot. He leaves and we dig in and before I can even get a bite in my wife says, "this is cold" ...and surprised I said ...."how? the plate's hot" she gave me a bite, and sure enough ... mildly over room temperature, and ... I'm sensitive to heat! I was surprised, but we found our waiter, and he took care of it. He brings it back, nice and hot, and all is good....so we thought. Enchilada number one was the crab and shrimp which my wife loved. My chicken leg was very nicely done, and the sauce was fantastic. As my wife moved to enchilada number two (the lobster) and I moved to the breast part of the chicken is where things got worse. Her second enchilada was not lobster, but, another crab and shrimp. My chicken breast was dried out. The rest ....... Now, should my wife had found our waiter and said something then,...probably, and I told her to also, but after having to have her plate re-warmed (and the fact the the crab and shrimp enchilada WAS good) ...she didn't hassle with it. She just decided to let our waiter know what had happened so he knew the order wasn't correct. Instead the table busser who kept checking with us took our plates, and she mentioned it to him ...and he said "thanks for letting me know, I'll take care of it". We thought, great .... but the bill came with nothing else said, and nothing taken off the bill or discussed with us. Hmmmm? With that, my wife said she'd speak w/ the manager upon us leaving. The manager couldn't have cared any less about what happened. She basically said, "oh, sorry"....that's it. No solution, no discount card to come back and try it again, ...nothing. Surprising. The service wasn't "bad" but the resolution and/or communication within their staff wasn't very good at all. And, ...the manager, as mentioned, didn't give a single hoot about what happened. In conclusion, this review should probably be a 3, but I can't do it. If there was a 1/2 rating, I'd give it a 2.5. The food, probably would fall under a 3.5 if you could rate food and service separately, but I can't. So, in conclusion.....any restaurant that doesn't show that they care, will have to be happy with a "2".

It's all about the atmosphere and the history and the vibe. The staff is friendly, but when it gets busy they are a little bit slower. Mixed drinks are just ok, not worth a 2nd (or maybe even a 1st). Food is ok, nothing special The enchilada was decent, and if I went again I would get that.

Meh. The food was ok. I had a bean and chicken tostada grande. The chips and salsa were decent. I went on a weeknight and it was packed with young people who wanted "to see and be seen". There is no parking. You must valet your car; it's extremely dark inside and unless you are an A-lister and get a private booth, you're stuck at a shared half booth/half table with strangers who will likely annoy you if you're over the age of 35. Would I go back? Maybe but I'm not in a hurry.

Margarita came in a warm glass; ice melted quickly and watered it down. Chips & salsa were very good. Friend got a Taco Salad, average. I ordered off appetizer menu the plentiful Vega Sampler platter with "red guacamole." That consisted of bits of chopped avacado floating in salsa which I found odd. Overall the service was very good but the food very average and some of it expensive! We visited on a Wednesday night at 7:30p. It was jam packed and VERY loud. At times I couldn't hear my friend to me across the table-kind-of-loud. It's a kitschy and fun atmosphere though.

If you are in the LA area in the future, have a margarita and dinner at Casa Vega. It is frequented by locals, young career folks and celebrities alike. The common denominator, the food and drink!! A reservation is often a good thing, unless you know the waiter/hostess. Fortunately one of our party did! Skinny margaritas all around!! The apps were yummy (guac and flour fried chips as well as the house salsa and chips) and another round! Soups good, hot and ample as well as the house salads. The seafood burrito was a bit fishy and mushy but the huge taco salad with chicken and the burrito dinners were great. In fact there were leftovers. Not an inexpensive evening but for 5 adults, it was under $300. Keep your eyes peeled, you never know if there will be a Hollywood sighting!

Really good food, make reservation if your going i went during the week and i didn't have a reservation i waited about 45 minutes to an hour before i was seated. But it was worth the wait. The staff are great the service is quick and the food is authentic. Great place to go, the drinks at the bar are nice and strong.

A friend took me to Casa Vega after talking about this restaurant for a few years. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, it is a small dark and classic restaurant with mexican food that takes you back to grandmas home cooking. It is worth a visit, but get there early as it gets busy.

Casa Vega is a classic Los Angeles Mexican restaurant. When you walk in you feel as if you are back in the 1960's. Don't be put off when you drive up. This place has been in business since the mid 1950's and does not have an impressive exterior despite the Ventura Blvd location. It is also a little dark inside, but that just adds to the atmosphere. We went for a late lunch with family while in Southern California. They have a summer happy hour with 20% off drinks and appetizers from 3-7 PM during the week. Call the restaurant to confirm happy hour days and times. I believe they have a late night happy hour as well and serve food until late night. We all had margaritas. I recommend the pineapple basil margarita. So refreshing and unique. The classic margarita and the blood orange margarita are also good. The chips and salsa served when we arrived were much better than average. The chips were warm and the salsa was smooth, rather than chunky and had a great flavor. We started with the lobster quesadilla and it was to die for... with plenty of chunks of lobster and fresh guacamole. Two of us had the shrimp and crab enchiladas, and one guest had the lobster enchilada. Oh so good! The service was excellent too! Valet parking only because of the small parking lot, unless you can find a spot on the street. Such a fun place to try while in LA! We will be back the next time we are in town.

Craving real Mexican food....love this place. Huge portions ! Everyone raves about this restaurant...so glad we ate there!

First off - I know that a Mexican restaurant on Cinco de Mayo is going to be a rough slog even at the best dining establishment. That said, this place was a madhouse. We waited nearly an hour and a half for a table. During that time I was shuffled back and forth between two different, but equally unfriendly hostess stands. Once we got our table, the service was slow, but I will chalk that up to the place being so crowded for the 'holiday'. The place was very noisy, but again, I think that was due to the crowds more than anything. The food was pretty good. It wasn't the best I've had, but it was tasty. The prices were a little ridiculous though. This place is NOT fine dining at all, but for 2 entrees, 2 margaritas, and an appetizer plate, we spent over 100 dollars. I don't anticipate coming back here anytime soon.

The strawberry margaritas were amazing. Then they brought out delicious fresh nachos and salsa. I had the combination dinner taco / burrito and it was delicious. Service was really good. We will definitely return.

Flashback decor and even staff. Really really dark inside - we had to quickly download a flashlight app to read the menu! True! The chips were good, so we had some anticipation of a yummy lunch but the food was just mediocre. We did get used to the dark, sort of, and our waiter was quite pleasant but it was just too outdated in a bad way. We ordered coffee at the end and could smell it coming it was so burned. Undrinkable, but we didn't want to stay in there for the time to brew another pot. Give this one a miss, especially in a city with so many good Mexican restaurants.

I live about 5 minutes from the restaurant and have eaten there about once every 3-4 years for over 20 years. Why keep coming back when I rate it a 1 you might ask? Until this year it was simply to try and figure out what the fuss is over this restaurant. This time my wifes best friend and husband wanted to go for his birthday so off we went. The only "Good" thing to like about this place: it's consistently bad. And I mean bad. Not food poison bad but simply bad, boring food. $20.50 for their combo plate of a sickly sweet corn tamale and a tasteless taco with equally boring refried beans and soupy rice? Salsa and Beer is 100 times better at 1/2 the price and it's only decent. Did I mention it's also crowded and noisy with slow service? Sorry to say but if you like this joint you simply haven't been to many mexican restaurants. Stay away.

The best Mexican food I've ever had - delicious, huge portions and awesome service! The drinks were fantastic (strong ☺ but who would complain about that!) All around great experience!

Went there years ago even though it wasn’t great but felt “genuine”. The turn off when we stopped going is that it doesn’t “feel” clean from the moment you walk in and that feeling is compounded because they keep it very dark. Not sure if they’ve ever changed the booths or carpet and who would know since it’s so dark. Friends were curious and saw the chef on some tv cooking show so we went. Two of us had the green burrito (wet) and honestly it was the single best burrito, red or green, that I’ve ever had. Even after I finished this huge burrito (and never thought I could, but I couldn’t stop eating it) I asked for a box to take the left over green sauce home! My husband had fajitas and he said they were “good “ and I do t remember what the 4th person had, but I remember he said it was “very good “. The margaritas (bet you thought I forgot) we’re not bad but not great either. I like a margarita that you can taste the tequila and here it was light - not a full bodied taste. So, do try this place but remember it’s genuinely dark inside!!!

I will dream about the tortilla chips at this restaurant--they are at the top of the best I've ever eaten list. I first heard of this restaurant on Flipping Out so I decided to try it, plus I love Mexican food. Our service was fast and the food came out very quickly, although I ordered a chicken taco but received a tamale. Our chips and soda never stayed low for long because of the attentive service by multiple people. My son had a burrito and never needed to eat again all day 😊 I was bummed to see that Rob and Khloe Kardashian dined here just after I did, but I probably wouldn't have seen them anyway, so it's not a big deal. If you are in the area, check this place out.

Casa Vega was established in the 1950s and from what old time patrons have told me, the quality is exactly as it was 60 years ago. The menu is expansive and offers food from just about every region in Mexico. Each day sauces are prepared fresh and they use the highest quality ingredients. The margaritas are delicious and loaded! The bar tenders remember your name and are very friendly. Service in the dining area is lacks enthusiasm. However, your food arrives fresh, hot and quickly. The décor is retro 1970s reminiscent of an old Tijuana night club. It is very dark inside which attracts many celebrities. CV is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the country.

Hidden gem, good food, chips and salad are great, mango margarita also very tasty. Had chicken taco meal, chicken fresh, slightly dry but still very good. Will go back.

Four of us went to Casa Vega in the Valley. The service was amazing! Very friendly and quick. The food was also great!! Authentic mexican so it was delicious.

Tired after a day which included a very early start and an 11-hour flight, my family decided we would have a quick dinner at Casa Vega, on Ventura Boulevard. Terrific atmosphere and warm, friendly greeting from genial waiter. As a first-timer I left the ordering to the old hands. First to the table were the obligatory margaritas, which didn't disappoint, even on the chilly winter's night. The Carne Asada Burritos were tasty and satisfying, but the total WOW of the night goes to the Queso Fundido! For those of you who (like me) are unfamiliar with this dish, allow me to describe it as a pool of flamed, melted Mexican cheese, dressed with sour cream, chipotle peppers and tortillas for the dipping of... we also chose the optional beef chorizo which, unlike it's European namesake, is not a sausage, but a heavenly, spicy, crispy-fried mince. Worth the trip from Europe for that Queso Fundido alone!!

I drive from Pasadena to eat at Case Vega - that is how good it is. The food, drinks and service are all top notch. Come and enjoy it cozy ambiance.

I grew up in Studio City and went to school at St. Francis de Sales and Notre Dame there in Sherman Oaks. My family and I have been going to Casa Vega since I was a little boy in the 1970s. I know live in Dallas, Texas and always take the opportunity to swing by when in LA visiting family. I find it sorta funny now it's become a Hollywood hotspot of sorts, but the food is still fantastic. Prepare to wait on busy nights, but it's well worth it.

I came here for the reputation, but I didn't have high expectations. Wow. This food was incredible. The salty, thick tortilla chips and blended salsa were addicting! I played it safe with a chicken enchilada and beef taco, but wow. They were some of the most flavorful I've ever had! We also got the lobster tacos, which were FULL of meat. This place is very, very dark inside. Everyone around us had to use the phone flashlight to read the menu. It has that old 60's vibe to it, but it was really fun. Only downside was that my water glass looked dirty. But great food and great ambiance!

First, let me say I have been a patron of this establishment for almost 10 years. Typically going to the bar at least once a week. However, we recently moved a little further away so I haven't been back in several weeks. My husband and I were there this Sunday afternoon and realized there was a significant price increase. Second, there was no longer happy hour on the weekends which is a drag but not a major deal. The worst part is the house margerita went from around $8 to over $10. To us that seems extreme! Although we realize price increases are a part of doing business. Although we feel this is excessive for a house drink. As much as we enjoy the drinks and the service at the bar is the BEST. After our experience we emailed the manager separately and never received a response. Regretfully we will probably not be back because of these prices and lack of concern in responding to loyal patrons. I hope they reconsider excessive price increases to avoid losing more regular customers such as ourselves.

Hello, Readers... Casa Vega in Los Angeles comes highly recommended. This quaint establishment gives you an outstanding dining experience. If you're looking for a GREAT Mexican meal; please go. The Chopped Guacamole will not disappoint. It's served with pita bread. YUMMY! Lastly, the lighting in the restaurant takes the meaning "dim lights" to a whole other level. It's really, really, really dark inside. I guess the owners want to create an ol' school ambience. LOL! ENJOY...

Some of the best burritos ever! I catch myself daydreaming of this place sometimes. I also love the old school ambience, dim lighting and great service. This place rocks!

I'll start off by saying there was absolutely nothing wrong with the food or drink my spouse and I had for lunch. It was very adequate. Having said that, our expectations were set fairly high by the restaurant's rave reviews from others and it's general reputation as being one of the best in the area. In my opinion it's not. The atmosphere is nice in a quirky sort of way with the extremely dim lighting, mob boss style booths and formally dressed waiters. The prices are just a bit steeper than many equivalent Mexican restaurants in the area. It was good to have been there once and to put our curiosities to rest. Now we'll go back to other restaurants we enjoy even more.

We have been coming here for over 30 years, always great. Unfortunately a terrible change has occurred and that is a new owner (who supposedly is a Vega family member). The drinks were literally mix only, the fajitas were boiled (they looked bizarre) and the normally friendly staff was so grumpy. We were all so disappointed and so sad to say good bye to Casa Vega.

I appreciate the less-than-positive reviews about this place and can see how not everyone would be impressed. However... What I ordered (beef enchiladas) was made the way I like it and tasted great. Loved the flavours and presentation. Service was prompt and professional. Prices were reasonable. I had to wait to get in, but I arrived on a Friday evening without a reservation, so can't really complain about that. I'd definitely go back, but would try to make a reservation first. Aside from the wait, the biggest challenge with dining here was finding a parking spot nearby.

The two snacks we ordered were delicious. The table side guacamole was so fresh and tasty, paired perfectly with warm corn chips. The chilli con queso was equally tasty and decadent. The flour tortilla chips were crunchy but a little tooo flaky and greasy. They went well with the salsa, but the corn chips were much better for the other dishes. The staff were friendly and polite. The decor is ancient/nostalgic, the booths were comfortable. My only dislike was how dark the place was. Brighter lighting is needed.

I like in the area and I highly recommend this spot. Amazing margaritas, the peach is famous. Everything on the menu is great. And the customer service is always top notch (even when they are packed).

We decided to stop in for lunch on our vacation because we had seen the restaurant so much on a season of "Flipping Out." It is definitely a classic throw back. I love the decor and I love the holiday decorations. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Great sangria.

This is an old school Mexican restaurant. Dark interior, christmas lights, candles on the table, wait staff that wear vests, they have it all. Good place to go if you don't care about the volume, conversation levels are high and it has a very comfortable feeling. The bar is hopping, the drinks are good and the food is some of the best. Glad I went.

We went just before Cinco de mayo, so it was festively decorated. Staff was friendly and eager to talk about Mexican food and culture. Food looked and tasted wonderful, so did la margarita! Ladies restroom is clean and very pretty (boyfriend says men's isn't as decorated, but clean too). My only complaint: it's so dimly lighted inside that you don't see a thing when you come in on a sunny day.

I have been coming to Casa Vega for over 10 years and the food remains consistently good. Casa Vega is a family owned Mexican restaurant in Sherman Oaks, CA. The food is authentic and tasty. The staff are great and very friendly. Parking can be tight on busy days, but valet is provided at an inexpensive rate (I think $3). The first thing you should know and prepare for is the transition from walking into Casa Vega on sunny days. The restaurant is dark and walking in from a sunny day, your eyes need a few seconds to adjust. Think going from mid-day to midnight in 1 second. Back to the food. I had the Pork Chile Verde which had my tastebuds singing in harmony. The pork was soft and supple and very lean. The rice was tasty and the beans were succulent. All around the dish was a concert of flavors that worked to bring joy to my tastebuds. While I waited for my food, I snacked on some chips and salsa. The chips were crunchy and fresh and the salsa had depth and breadth. The chips and salsa alone would pair nicely with any alcohol beverage. This is a great restaurant and it is not a chain. I recommend you try it if you are in the Sherman Oaks/Studio City area.

A great vibe and great mexian food with killer margaritas. Waiters are old school and keep the food and appetizers coming. Be prepared to take a cab home!

Had a great night at Casa Vega. The staff were very friendly and the food was great. Best Mojitos we had in LA too!!!

The food and service at Casa Vega is quite good and a step up from most authentic Mexican restaurants. The restaurant is heavily decorated and cave like with lower ceilings and VERY low lighting. You'd think that would make it feel private but the sound really carries in this place! Every time I have been there I could easily overhear conversations as if they were at our table - yet the overall noise level in the restaurant makes it difficult to talk with the people I am sitting with. This has been true whether the place is full or nearly empty as it was last night. I haven't figured out why that is but we just go for the food and don't linger over our meal! My personal favorites are the black bean tacquitos and Mexican pizza. Quality is always consistent and like most Mexican restaurants, Casa Vega has good vegetarian options. I only gave it a 3 because of the atmosphere but whether that appeals to you or not - the food and service at Casa Vega is always enjoyable!

Yes! I love a steaming hot plate of enchiladas! We went on a Friday night so we had to wait awhile, but oh was it ever worth it! Great service too! We'll definitely go back!

This place is great for ambience and the drinks are good, but the food and the service were average. We dined on a Saturday night, so the restaurant was very busy. We had to wait a bit for our table since they don't take reservations. We were able to order drinks quickly, but then it took the waiter a long time to get back to take our order. The food was delivered quickly, but there were not any stand out dishes. They did let us sit and visit without being pushy for us to leave.

The the margaritas are good, the food is awesome. Good vibes. There is a reason there is a 45 minute wait to get a table. Try the tostada chiquita is awesome, although I think it used to be called the 'tostada salad'? These reviews complaining the place has changed because it's now dark inside? It always has been dark in there. You are confusing this place with something else.

Great little authentic Mexican Restaurant. Delicious food, good service and reasonably priced given its location. One of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever eaten in. Recommend!

Very very loud is how I first encountered this good Mexican eatery while waiting at 9 pm to get a table, and the noise level did not abate during the course of our meal. Certainly popular and reasonably so, but marred by the very very loud sound level. Rather dark. Good service despite the crowds. Good food and lots to choose from. Margaritas just OK.

solid shredded chicken burrito smothered in enchilada sauce...what more can you ask for? can have long waits, but goes by fast with margs at the bar...

Just like the title. I think this says it all. There was a wait for our table, and even though we waited about 15 minutes they sat us in the bar. Not very impressed with the food overall. Guacamole was awful. Will not return here.

My husband and I came here for lunch after seeing it on an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. We had an awesome lunch there! Great tacos, enchiladas and tamales. The decor was a bit dated, but loved the pictures on the wall, but it was entirely too dark in there. If they turned up the lightening a bit, the place would be much more inviting!

We were seated outside on the patio at a table that was not ready to receive patrons (no place settings). Our waiter Evan arrived in a timely manner and took our drink orders, followed shortly by our food orders. When our food arrived, we had to flag down another server to give us silverware, but our dinners were already cold, so not very good, which is a shame because we have eaten here before-inside- and we had a totally different experience. It took forever to get our check and pay our bill. Disappointing.

We went to Casa Vega with friends on our last visit to Los Angeles. The food was good and the service was pretty quick considering the long wait to get a table. But they really did get us seated pretty fast considering the crowd. The reviews I've read comment on how dark it is, but I think that was fine. I wished it had been quieter, the place is quite loud and it's hard to have a good conversation. My combination plate was good, although the shredded beef could have been a bit more tender. There was nothing really noteworthy about the food, but nothing to really complain about either. As far as the service was concerned, it was average/adequate and satisfactory. The one problem is that they brought out the soups and salads in a reasonable time but didn't really give us a chance to get very far into them when the meals came out. I know it's odd for someone to complain that the food is served too quickly, but you should have the opportunity to complete one course before the next comes out. The prices are not bad, but are a bit higher than they should be considering that the food is not all that spectacular.

I am always looking for excellent Mexican food and margaritas. CV does not disappoint - in fact their organic margarita made from lime juice and agave is one of the best ever...Period. The flour chips are awesome as is the guacamole! The atmosphere is 1950's with the bar oozing with personality! Go!

I've visited Casa Vega many times. Food is great. Mexican food. Chicken, seafood and steak. They have salads and a full bar. Favorite among artists, singers, etc because they are open for dinner until 1a.m. Has changed ownership and there is valet parking on-site.

This is the quintessential old school Mexican style restaurant I grew up with as a kid. It's not your supposed to be authentic taco truck style Mexican. It's the old school Hotel catering style Mexican the people don't realize it's also a authentic. The best thing about this place is just too campy interior. You're walking to see the red tucked naugahyde seats. Right out of a 50s gangster movie. I love this place and will continue going back to us because it makes me feel good to be there. The food is decent but like I said not your typical taco truck Nouveau style Mexican Cuisine can give it a try and you'll be pleased with the experience if not the food as well

This place was nice the ambient has a lounge type of feel with really dimmed lights. The noise level at night was loud not the best place for a date, but large groups it would be ok. The food was alright aimed more toward American and tourists, I thought that the carne Asada could have more flavor, felt to a flat taste. If you want true Mexican food cantina, San Diego “Old Town” will beat almost any other Mexican food for authenticity and flavor.

This is the breakdown. The restaurant is very dark inside, From the moment we sat at our table it took a good ten minutes for the waiter to acknowledge us. Don't really know why it was a Monday night and it wasn't busy at all. The drinks were delicious, had their skinny margarita....maybe the best I've ever had :) Salsa is too spicy and food was disappointing. All in all would not return and don't recommend :(

The drinks overpriced, too small, watery, and don't taste good. The food use to be tasty but know it taste as if they are using the cheapest cheese they can find. Clientele... Not the same! :-(

Upon walking into this restaurant, we remember saying that this is the darkest restaurant we ever entered, short of the one where it's completely dark and you eat by touch and taste only. The waiter greeted us and was a very happy guy. He answered any questions we had, and was very helpful. He explained the specials and how they work with margaritas, and we placed orders. meanwhile the chips and salsa came out. I am not a fan of spicy, and these were great for me. Just a hint of spice. Then when the food came out, our eyes were better adjusted to the light inside. Food was great. Chips were great. Waiter was attentive and always came over, not just to sell more, but to see if we were ok. All was well with dinner, and we were even happy when the bill came.

As others have commented the lighting is definitely dim - however this is not a negative as it does add to the atmosphere. Good varied food choices. Prompt service. Good value.

It's nice that a non-chain restaurant has been around for so long, but apart from the cool ambience, it's amazing they've stayed in business when the food seems to not have evolved since the place opened 50-some-odd years ago. The bar area has nice lights, and the restaurant's giant burgundy-leather booths are comfy and very retro. Our server was great, very patient with our large group. But the food was about as ordinary and average-tasting as those old Mexican chains were back in the 70's and 80's...think El Torito. And for "meh" food, the prices were a little high. So many better Mexican options in the area, but still, a nice place for just some cocktails and chips and salsa.

Great food and great service. We will be back next time we are in Los Angeles. Free parking in the lot next to the restaurant.

Casa Vega is great despite having good but not necessarily great food. What sets it apart is the atmosphere. It is a truly old school place from the dimly lit bar area to the servers who look like they've been here forever. The food is good but there are dozens of Mexican restaurants that are at least as good. That said you won't be disappointed and if you want to wash your meal down with a couple of margueritas - they make them very well here. It's fun, noisy, busy and the staff are friendly and make sure everyone has what they need for a good time. The sweet corn tamales are top notch. This is a great place for a celebration.

Is Casa Vega touristy? Yes. But that’s probably the reason why you are there so you shouldn’t be shocked at it being busy, rushed service, expensive, etc. I thought the food (while overpriced) was great! They have all the classics and any of their combo plates make a great meal. We started off with the Tostada Chiquita, which is kinda like a taco salad on a tostada? It was worth going back for by itself. The restaurants decor is classic and really makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Service was good, but a bit rushed. We never had to worry about drink refills or plates being removed. I would come back in a heartbeat!

The food is really really great Mexican food, and the price at lunch is reasonable and you leave with a full belly. We were so happy to find this place we ordered dinner to pick up the next night, and for the same meal it went from $24 to $51 we couldn't believe it. I don't know if drink prices change but we will now only go for lunch. I think they add more food with the dinner (a salad) but not worth the money. Hope this helps, the place is really fun inside, a bit dark but your eyes adjust. We're in our 30's and love finding great Mexican places, not very many in studio city. Happy to find this place! Worth a try!

The entry was easily accessible off main road with parking available. Outdoor seating only, which was set-up very nicely & tables spaced out very well. Restrooms were in doors which were very small, but clean. Hostess was very pleasant and welcomed us to the location as well as when we were seated. Chips & salsa were abundantly provided & refilled without asking. Service was slow. Slow to take orders. Slow to deliver. Slow to receive our meal. Personnel were all very pleasant and nice to visit with. Drinks were very good with a nice variety of margaritas on the bar menu. Dinner menu included a very nice variety of items from seafood, to pork, eggs, and beef & vegetable dishes. Our table ordered a variety of dinners. My partners & mine, our food was uneventful & boring. Our burritos (carnitas & alambre) were luke warm, bland, and characterless - flour tortillas filled with beans, some meat, some cheese and that's it. No flair. No extra flavor. Nothing that made us go "WOW", even the salsa was bland. While we were glad to have gone to this location based on its history & stories, unfortunately we were truly disappointed with the food. Our recommendation, for the prices charged, we suggest go for a speciality margarita, walk into the restroom to see the inside of the restaurant, and then eat at your favorite food truck.

We sent our margaritas back three times. We almost left after attempt number two. It just wasn't worth the hassle. The drinks tasted bitter and not at all yummy like a Cadillac style margarita ought to taste. The waiter was patient and didn't make a fuss and he was quite nice about it, so he insisted on a third try. That third drink was "better," but in no way was it a great drink. I don't know what they're doing there in the bar... and the salsa and chips are "just ok." At least the seafood enchiladas were decent, but again, nothing to write home about. I've been to Casa Vega many times, and I'm not in a rush to ever go back. Also, the greeters are not very friendly. When we arrived, they acted like it was a hassle to deal with us. They didn't even smile or welcome us. It's like they're too big for their britches. Mark Casa Vega off my list.

Having been going here since I was a kid. 50 years. Went back last night for the first time in years. Felt like home cooking. Loved the tacos and the salad. Baked burrito rocks too. Great bar as well. Get the Cadillac margarita .

Amazing place to eat! The food is wonderful, service is great and the feel of this place is amazing. Thank you for a wonderful night. My son loved spending his birthday with you.

Been going here for 30+ years. Small and cool with a menu that's pretty standard. Parking can be tricky but they offer valet.

But I am not a fan of Mexican food..... So the place was packed on a Thursday evening. The line was long and the bar was hopping. Margarita was tasty even though I am not a fan of Tequila. I know I am in the minority here... By the time we were seated, I was half full with chips and salsa. The salsa served with the chips were good and spicy. As I was browsing through the menu, there's a good range of prices. But the higher ticket dishes probably shouldn't be that high. I ordered the safest Burrito, Carne Asada Burrito, The Carne Asada was very flavorful and I would order that again, and so was the guacamole, However, the kitchen could have chopped the onions a bit smaller for the Pico De Gallo. I also got to taste the chicken Burrito, oven style which means Monterey jack cheese and Salsa Rajo was put on top of the burrito and baked until the cheese was melted. The chicken was salty and "oven Style" treatment was not necessary. All and all, it was a good meal, the place was dark and we all needed to turn on the flash nights from our phone to read the menu. I see that most people really enjoy their time there and It was still busy when we left at 9:00. I would definitely recommend it to friends who loves Mexican food in Sherman Oaks.

Been around for a long time. Since 1956. The food is good, the margaritas excellent, but the prices are ridiculously high for Mexican food. +Parking can be an issue, so valet will likely add another $4.50.

I just popped in for a quick drink at the bar while waiting for a friend to collect me and had welcoming and friendly service from Antonio at the bar. I hope to come back soon for a meal.

Birthday lunch at any place I wanted was the task I was charged with so putting on my thinking cap I had an aha moment and Casa Vega came to mind. Now I'd driven past the restaurant whenever in the SF Valley with no time to stop and told myself 1 day. We arrived after the lunch rush and were seated promptly with chips, salsa brought over. We started off with margaritas, tortilla soup and chopped avocado & chips, absolutely yummy! We had the taco & enchilada combo and might I say, everything was soooo good we decided before dessert we were going to keep coming back until we get through the entire menu. Following the meal our server brought flan with a candle and sang happy b'day Panchita, delightful and oh, we ordered fried ice cream, both were simply divine. In summary, the chips were fresh & warm, salsa tasty with just enough heat, food & dessert delicious and let's not forget the margaritas or service, both excellent! Overall I enjoyed my birthday lunch especially the company (my Papa) and I'll be back again and again with my family & friends, thanks Casa Vega, a meal I'll always remember!!

Pros: cool place, atmlsphere, authentic feel, yummy margaritas, celebrity sightings, delicious food, valet. Cons: no reservations, long wait times, too many chips given prior to meals so you end up full before your meal arrives, very spicy salsa, expensive.

Like a lot of other reviewers, I've been going here for years but haven't gone in a while because of moving out of the area. We went for a girls' birthday dinner since we haven't been for a while. The best thing I remember was the little dinner salad that comes with the meals, and it was still delicious! It's like a mini-tostada, with beans, lettuce, tomato, beets and dressing. My friend had it as her main course, with soup as an appetizer. It's that good. I had the carnitas, refried beans (I asked for no rice) which came with salsa, guacamole and tortillas. Very tasty and a lot of food but very salty. Another friend wasn't too impressed with her fish tacos. Good margaritas (for some reason no prices on the menu) and delicious chips...perfectly salted and light, warm & crisp. They don't take reservations and get fairly busy, so plan on a wait. I enjoyed my visit, and definitely will return again.

With a few beers (Bohemia, Mexican) we enjoyed nachos with pico de gals and then as entree Enchiladas da Espinaca, perfect spinach, avocado and cream. To much to eat but perfect to remember.

I've heard about this place for a while. Work didnt end til 9 tonight, that can be a difficult time to find dinner. Casa Vega is open late, so that became the destination. This place is definately old school, higher-end mexican. The booths were comfortable, the decor had an old Mexico flavor, lots of paintings of bullfights. Service was attentive. Large menu. We had a carne asada burrito, and a tiple combo plate. Most was very good, some items like the corn tamale excellent. Neither of us finished ou meals. So why a 4? Dinner for 2 with no drinks, appetizers or dessert clocked in at over $50 with the tip. Bottom line, I would go back. Its a good place to hang out but I would not call it a price performer.

Food was good, service was great and their Classic Margarita was just average. Salsa tasted like it came out of a can. Nothing stood out about the food at this restaurant. Food and drinks were just average. The one thing is that the ambient was really dark. We had a brownout for a couple seconds and when the lights came back on, it wasn't much of a difference. Make sure you have a flash light app on your cell phone because they keep the lights dim making it hard for some to read their menu.

My sisters and went for lunch and had a great time! They had a Bloody Mary cart roaming around and made a table side Bloody Mary to order. Food was great! I had Chile Colorado and house salad w delicious house dressing. The only small complaint I have is; the lightening is low, you can hardly read menu. I had to use the flashlight on my phone.

I hadn't been to Casa Vega in a few years and despite the many negative reviews I wanted to go again to see for myself. My friend ordered the chicken tostada, he claimed it was o.k., and would order it again, but I ordered the "Pescado Taco's" and not so good. There was NO flavor at all, no taste. I recommend NOT ordering this item. Save your money, try something else. I'll probably give the place one more try, but if they can't create a meal that tastes good to great with some real flavor, it'll be the last time I go there.

First the “bad” just to get it out of the way; the portions are a little small compared to what I’d hope to get for the prices, which are high. For instance, I ate my entire entree plus half my wife’s that she was too stuffed to finish and I was maybe just barely stuffed. And I’m a skinny guy. But that’s sort of nitpicky. Maybe I was able to eat so much because it’s just such great food. The prices I didn’t expect because I really didn’t know what kind of place it was, so maybe I wouldn’t put that as a negative if I’d known what to expect. The chips and salsa they provide are good, the food is great, and the margaritas are WOW! We’ve all heard of the drinks that hit you afterward, and I’ve never found that to be more true than here. I had the CV spicy and the Tarantino, and though both were delicious (CV spicy was best though), I never tasted any alcohol whatsoever. I was willing to forgive them being weak drinks because they were so good. And then I finished my wife’s CV spicy… That 2.5 drinks got me buzzing way harder than I ever would’ve expected. It just took a while to hit. So if you’re drinking here and think you’ve been cheated because of the lack of alcohol taste, just hold on a bit. It’ll come around. Besides the food, it’s a beautiful but small place, quiet but lively, dim but vibrant. Get reservations. Parking nearby is tough to get so budget like $7 + tip for the valet.

Good classic Mexican in pleasant surroundings with good service. No reservations and very busy, so come early, as we did, and grab a drink at the bar because a weekend night will have a 45-minute (we came early hoping to “minimize” our wait, so arrived around 6:30 on a Friday night) or more. Flavorful, filling. Valet parking.

I have high expectations for Mexican food in California, as several restaurants that I have eaten at in the LA area have been some of the best food I have eaten. We had a recommendation to eat here from a local foodie so I had high hopes for a great dinner. The margaritas started out nicely...ordered a Cadillac and it was strong and flavorful. The guacamole was fresh and tasty and salsa had a nice bite. Chips were nothing special. I ordered the tres tacos in one of each protein: beef, chicken and pork. I was so disappointed in the tacos. The topping were only ok, so little flavor or freshness. Just meat and onions really. The sides were the typical rice and beans, nothing special. The restaurant ambience was very authentic old Mexican...very dark with red leather booths and lamps. It felt like a old supper club/Fiesta. It was interesting and different, but overall the feeling was a bit claustrophobic. Overall: meh. I would probably skip it.

Visited casa vega for the 2nd time in as many trips to LA. Bar tender was excellent, and the margaritas are fabulous. I also had a non alcoholic daiquiri which was also really nice. You are served chips and salsa from the moment you sit down and these are refilled as quickly as you can eat them! My friend had a coke and this was always picked up half way through him drinking it and refilled. We ate beef and chicken enchiladas - yum! Portions are large as prices are very fair. Staff were lovely, only down side is how dark it is inside but your eyes adjust and it's really not that big of deal unlike some reviewers have commented. As long as you like good food, authentic staff, drinks and have good company you are good to go!

Meet for lunch and enjoyed the meal! Good salsa and chips. Everyone liked their meal choices. A tad underlit for lunch but that is the ambiance there.

Four stars for overall experience, three stars for food. I come here all the time and love it, but I am a fervent believer in the dark, red-booth, old-school style cal-mex restaurant. Such places are one of the things I love most about L.A. If you are looking for ultra fresh outstanding regional specialties, light/bright/kid-friendly, or hipster style cocktail snobbery, then this is not the place for you. But if you want what amounts to a high end dive bar (not an oxymoron, I assure you) with solid comfort food, then belly on up to the bar! Best dishes include the enchiladas rancheras, or as I call them, "the cheese death," and tres tacos chicos (especially with al pastor). Albondigas is tasty here and perfect to get a quart to go when you're laid up with a cold.

Really enjoyed the food and ambiance at Casa Vega. Chicken tacos were amazing!! As was the soup!!! VERY beautifully decorated for Christmas time too!! Fair prices, good sized portions. VERY tasty and enjoyable! I will DEFINATELY visit again on my next trip to California!

For all the bad reviews it gets its def a go to for a great margarita and chips/salsa. The food is good. No complaints. The burrito is huge! So what if the place may not be the most sanitary but you can always count on a fun crowd and good celeb and people watching....

I love this place just because it's so cool inside. It's like you stepped in to another era or something. No windows so you could be anywhere! But the food is just OK. And expensive! I've been here a few times. The fish tacos are edible. Nothing special. Last time I had the lobster enchiladas and they were better than the fish tacos. Much better. And you get a lot of food, but $28 worth?! I think not. Overall I think people just go there for the drinks and the other worldly atmosphere.

We've had many a yummy meal here. Lunch & Dinner both. Booths are great for romantic getaway; friends; family and in the bar area. Cozy and Comfortable. Dining room accommodates large groups. Traditional Mexican menu. All good choices. Chips are delicious. Don't be tempted to fill up on the chips and salsa!

I Eat here every time I go over to Los Angeles to visit family in Sherman oaks! Amazing Mexican food best I've ever eaten! Hopefully be back soon

Great night spent here, lovely food great staff. Go and enjoy your self. Great atmosphere. Good old Hollywood restaurant

So approaching this place had me a bit uneasy but when you walk in, it's pure charm. The portions are gigantic, the staff is extremely courteous, and the pace of the kitchen was spot on. I have nothing but love for this spot after my first visit and I will be going back!

This place is an institution! Stopped by for late lunch after wrapping up a few meetings while in town. I had the cheese enchiladas with mole (chocolate) sauce and double rice. (I never see anyone get this and it really is fantastic!) The margaritas were to die for and service was impeccable. I could have stayed in the windowless darkness all day... At least until the sun went down. Another great meal at Casa Vega!

It starts when you arrive --- $4.50 for valet parking, despite the presence of a large parking lot behind the building. Standard cocktail $12.... my date ordered a single taco with rice (at the bar): $13.90. Ridiculous, given the decor and location.

My guest and I ordered two difference entrees, and in a word they were awful. I had a burrito and my friend had tacos. All were bland and tasted as if they came from a middle school cafeteria. Sorry about that.

Seated quickly. Nice margaritas. I had one made with blood orange. Crab and shrimp tostadas were delicious. My daughters burrito ranchero was also delicious, made with chicken, refried beans , sour cream, queseo cheese and avocado. It was my daughters birthday and the waiters and waitresses sang happy birthday and gave her flan with a candle. Very nice surprise.

I wasn't impressed much by anything. The chips - Meh The Taco? it fell apart there was so much water on the bottom of the plate. I wouldn't go back. Go to Sol y Luna in Tarzana for really good Mexican food instead.

I’ve been going to Casa Vega since the 80’s! They just recently remodeled their entire kitchen with all top notch appliances - The food here is crazy authentic. Amazing salsa and chips, the margaritas are fresh and strong like they should be 🙏 and the food is super delicious. The cheese enchiladas are my favorite with beans and rice in the side. My GO TO Mexican Restaurant for sure!!! #818

I've been here several times, but came most recently for the Dine LA menu and really enjoyed it. The food was fantastic! That being said, I have one complaint...the wait is always insanely long here. It's worth it and the fact that there's a bar where they ply you with free chips and salsa while you wait helps, but it really is getting unreasonable. On a Friday night at peak dinnertime, you can expect to wait 90 minutes. Considering they obviously get a lot of patronage, I really think they can and should add a second story to the building to either get more seating space or to move most seating upstairs and allow more space for waiting. The bar area gets so crowded that the servers can't even get around. Very inefficient! All that to say, definitely go to Casa Vega! Just go Monday-Thursday!

After waiting over an hour for a table which I gladly did because I had heard good things about the food, we were finally escorted to our table which was to include a space for one child in a stroller. When we arrived at the table the server told me to wake my sleeping baby and put my stroller away rolled his eyes and walked away. My table of 12 people got up and walked straight out of the place. Very rude!!!

I've been coming here since I was a little kid (50 years ago.) Excellent guacamole and strong drinks. Fajitas were pretty good but they could have had a bit more chicken. Also I requested no bell peppers, and they had them on, so I just picked them off, but still . . .

I chose to invite some friends there for my birthday. People are very nice and friendly, the food is delicious and portion are huge! We had a lot of fun !!

Recommended by a friend who has gone there for years. The staff is friendly and the setting is classic. Leather seating and you get the feeling that Sinatra may have eaten there back in the day. Delicious meals and the drinks were top.

I have visited Casa Vega on August 2018 and we try there Burritos. I have no words to describe the taste of burritos. I would highly recommend this place. They had a great Mexican authentic food.

I used to live very close to Casa Vega and ate there several times per month. That was 30 years ago. I just went there last night and the food is still the best in town. The service and attention outstanding. Don't miss this if you like Mexican food.

Visit LA at least twice a year and Casa Vega is always a place we go. The vegetarian burrito made vegan is our all time favorite. The sauce is the best. Over the last 5 years in the vegan burrito we had a piece of chicken once and beef another. But we still continued to go back. This time I bit into a piece of beef... The manager very kindly offered to make another and would watch to ensure no meat would fall into it. To our surprise another piece of beef in the second burrito. The waiter was very upset. The manager apologized but what can you say at that point. As we both love Casa Vega and our all time favorite burrito we can't imagine not going back but so many times with this happening we are now hesitant. Please do something to prevent cross contamination... if this could be prevented I would give 5 stars...

First of all, the food is absolutely delicious California Mexican. The kind of Mexican food I grew up on in the American south: gooey melted monterey jack cheese, tasty refried beans, crisp house-made tortilla chips, fresh salsa. The kind I cannot find in NYC, much to our chagrin! I had the platter with cheese enchilada, chile relleno, rice and beans, and ordered a bean burrito to go. Everything was absolutely scrumptious. The servers are warm and friendly, fast and helpful. You can tell they take pride in their work and are treated well. And finally, the interior is a gorgeous trip back in time, well preserved original 1960s decor, dimly lit and atmospheric. I cannot wait to go back. Bravo.

We went to Casa Vega for dinner. It wasn’t that busy when we came so they put our names on a list. Then the crowd showed up and they were handing out beepers. Somehow we fell through the cracks and they ended up seating two groups that came in behind us before we got seated. Their basic margarita is poured from a spigot pre-mixed and not fresh made. There is and upgraded margarita called the Cadillac margarita which is hand made. We saw the bartender make a group of four Cadillac margaritas, but he didn’t make enough so he filled the glass with spigot margarita and ice. While the Cadillac margarita is $14, it's much better than the regular margarita. One of us ordered the dinner which came with really good Spanish rice and Beans. Also, the enchiladas are excellent. My wife had the fish Tacos and we thought the fish was a bit overdone and the batter a bit greasy. I ordered the Carne Asada which was tough. All of the meals were over $20 which we thought was overpriced compared to other Mexican restaurants we visited in Los Angeles. Our servers were very good and very pleasant.

I was visiting the area this weekend. First time at Casa Vega. There were 3 of us in the party, and while the welcome was friendly and the service was good, 2 of us agreed that the food was awful. I got the shrimp fajitas, $32.50…. 3 shriveled, old, tired corn tortillas rolled tightly in, and stuck to the aluminum foil. The outer halves of all tortillas were hard and inedible. The shrimp was bordering on hard and swimming in a bland watery liquid with a few onions and red peppers. I left most of it behind. The 3rd member of our party, our host, ate most of his food but wondered why his 2 guests ate so little! We won’t be going back.

We sat outside for dinner and it was great. Very attentive and the food was delicious. Fast and friendly service.

My son took me there for my birthday and I must say the food was excellent, and the margaritas was on point. The atmosphere was very friendly, loved it.

The best Mexican fare in LA! Whenever we're in town, we head over to Casa Vega~we love many of their selections. As you sit down, they deliver a basket of warm tortilla chips that are perfection! The guacamole is spectacular! Try the tacitos. We love them! The tortilla soup is amazing, The quesadillas are delicious and the burritos are worth writing home about. The windowless atmosphere is a first disconcerting but once your eyes adjust, you realize is it's a cool little cavernous place with amazing food that's fun!

Most recent visit to Casa Vega, declared the best in the Valley by local relatives, leaves a lot to be desired food wise. If this is the best Mexican around then go to an In&Out Burger for dinner. I sampled a tamale, chile rellano and an enchilada, none of which were above average. The salsa served with good chips had little punch to it. Finally, the margaritas were served in a standard tall glass with no request for salt offered and none could be provided on these regular glasses. Very forgettable meal.

Great food, Its the best burritos i have ever had. I ate this place two days in a row must try this place. Pretty authentic genuine flavors.

I had higher expectations. First, I could barely see to walk to the table and they did not provide any lighting to assist. There was also a bit of a bump as you walk from the front area towards the seating, so right off the bat that could be dangerous. Once seated, we had to use the lighting on our phones to see the menu - and it was about noon! We ordered chicken tacos, as we are gluten-free because of allergies and knew that chicken is generally a safe bet, but when it came and we bit into it, we quickly realized the chicken was breaded and fried! We ate the beans and rice that came with it, but were unable to finish the tacos. They do, however, provide quite a bit of food for the price so that is a definite plus. The service was just okay and after wanting to visit for so long, I probably expected too much. The parking was very convenient and the man in the lot was very nice and helpful. I probably would not go back.

I have not been here for quite a few years but we were in the valley for a party and we decided to go to Casa Vega since we were close by. The atmosphere was amazing and decorated for Christmas. But I cannot tell you how bad the food was. The taquitos were almost inedible, the salsa bland. I hope they bring back real Mexican food someday or they won’t be around much longer.

Loved the atmosphere! It's old world with cool curved booths like in the movies The food was really good!

Just went there on a Monday night, and Casa Vegas never disappoints. We ordered the Lobster Enchilada and Fish Tacos Grilled...so good. We were surprised for a Monday that the place was busy and the servers are always checking to see if we need anything. Would recommend since it's been a family business for a very long time.

I ate at Casa Vega yesterday for lunch. I had the Taquitos Ranchero Combination. The beef taquitos were fully filled and fried crispy. The rice and beans were good as well as the guacamole and sour cream. The service staff was very attentive and nice. The only thing I did not like was that it was so dark in there. I had to use my mini flashlight to read the menu.

I chose to invite some friends there for my birthday. People are very nice and friendly, the food is delicious and portion are huge! We had a lot of fun !! The only “problem” is that they don’t take reservation unless you are 8 or more people, so you might sometimes wait 30-40 minutes to get a table... :/

Chili con queso, combo dinner and 2 craft margarittas chips ,salsa was $63.00 at happy hour, one person. Imagine your date or partner would be $126.00 For all the hype I found it normal for the bill as realated to the ordering at a happy hour. Go with someome you want to impress is a go however, Nice low light atmosphere,Food was mex-american style with nice textures and flavores . You will get change back from spending $150.00 with the valet parking .

I love Mexican food. I could eat Mexican food and pizza every single day. Yesterday, I saw a list of SoCal's oldest restaurants. I take such lists to be a challenge. I have already been to many of the places on the list and several are on my regular rotation. I decided that i had an obligation to try them all and to retry the ones i haven't been to in at least 20 years. Casa Vega sits between work and home, on the corner of Ventura Blvd and Fulton in Sherman Oaks. I stopped in on the way home this evening. I was greeted warmly and seated immediately. The chips and salsa arrived within a minute. The chips are crispy and lightly salted, the salsa plain and delicious, of medium spiciness. I ordered the crab and shrimp enchiladas with a cup of chicken tortilla soup. The soup was very good, a little spicy and full of chicken and avocado pieces. The enchiladas came a few minutes later. They were plump, not skimpy. The shrimp were tiny bay shrimp but there were a lot of them. There was also a lot of crab meat. The sour cream and guacamole on the side weren't little dollops, they were big blobs. It came with the usual red rice and refried beans, which were, well, like most other red rice and refried beans. Good, but nothing spectacular. I could have stopped eating after the first enchilada and been satisfied, but i kept going because those enchiladas were really good. I had to force myself to stop eating about 2/3 through the second one. The food was really good, the service excellent. Since i was on the way home from work, i sadly did not try a margarita. The bar was full, though, which is good for a Monday evening. I'll try the pollo en mole next time. And maybe have a designated driver so i can check out the margaritas.

The salads and tostadas were amazing. Fresh ingredients. Good portion size. The house margarita was delicious. Had to have a second. And strong. They don't skimp on their alcohol. Very dark restaurant. Odd seating. Tables very close to each other. Overall, you go for the food so it's a 5/5.

Lovely romantic Atmosphere , good Sav Blanc wine , tasty nibbles and lovely Mexican food . A magical happy hour !!!

Casa Vega is a great place if you have been a long time customer and if you are a local. But, having said that, even though I am not a local, I spend enough time in the area to realize the charm of this place. Is it the best food in LA? No. But Casa Vega is an icon, a gathering place, a watering hole. It has history. It has vibe. I can guarantee that many great ideas have resulted from a visit to this place, whether over drinks and chips at the bar, to a full dinner in the dining room. There is usually a wait, but sit at the bar (IF you can get a seat), and have a fantastic Margarita. Or a nice, cold Tecate with a lime and salt. Chips and salsa are fantastic. Don't come here to just enjoy a good Mexican meal- come here for the vibe, to meet friends, and discuss the worlds problems- you might just solve some.

Been going to this restaurant for years and have finally decided it is just average. Our waiter the other night was unfriendly and we felt like he was doing us a favor by waiting on us. We found a similar attitude with the hostess. The food is usually good but I think there are better Mexican restaurants and will begin our search.

Our friends who relocated to LA from the NYC area brought us to Casa Vega. They said it was the best Mexican restaurant in LA. I have to say it was really good. I especially liked the variety on the menu. And the tortilla chips were pretty awesome. It was the first time I'd been to a Mexican restaurant with a kiddie menu as well! And I'm from NYC! The only negative to me was that before being seated I ordered a margarita from the bar. We were busy chatting, so it was too late when the bartender placed a *frozen* margarita on the bar for me. I hadn't realized until that point that he hadn't asked me whether I wanted it frozen! I guess I'm used to being asked in NYC. And the thing is, I would not have ordered frozen because I prefer a regular margarita. At the table I ordered a regular margarita with an upgraded tequila. Normally I can tell the difference in a better tequila. Not really this time. While the food was good, I think the drinks are a rip off at Casa Vega.

I had another awesome meal at Casa Vega. The Guacamole is always fresh and delicious. The chips they serve with the Guacamole aren't the best, but I ask for the crispy chips and they are great. The food is always delicious and authentic. I would recommend this restaurant

We had just arrived in LA and our AirBnB was close by, so we wandered around and stumbled upon Casa Vega. How pleasantly surprised we were! Raul was a super attentive waiter and we got a LOT of food with the lunch special. The salsa is probably the best I’ve ever had. The burritos were enormous. We’re considering going back again before we go home... so good!

The first thing you will notice when you walk into Casa Vega out dark it is. I mean dark. Did, however go for lunch so I'm assuming that the evening experience is much more appropriate the darkness. We started the meal with the queso and guacamole and they did not disappoint. The food is fresh the execution is awesome and the chips were warm. The meals came out as standard fare also when no disappointment. Family loved the food I found it on the pricey side for a lunch for 4 adults and one child came out to $120

These days, it's a treat to go to a good restaurant and just hang out with friends as long as we like, without being rushed. Service was excellent from Noel and the bussing staff. Attentive, not excessive. The menu has enough variety that there is always something new to try. The fried ice cream was quite a pleasant surprise - with excellent whipped cream. incidentally, the music was too loud. When I asked them to turn it down so we could hear each other, they did that right away.

This is one of those old LA places where you find regular people and stars all dining in the same room. It is always busy and they don't take reservations--you get a pager thing and wait (and the wait can be long). In a world where you can get much more authentic food, the food here is nothing to rave about. The enchiladas were okay but the tamales were like cornbread with stuff mixed in. But, for old LA ambiance this is the place to be. It's fun and festive and a great place for something like a birthday party or family reunion.

I have visited Casa Vega every time I visit the Los Angeles area! As a lover of Mexican food and a California resident this is hands down the best Mexican Food I have ever had! The prices may be a bit steep but trust me it’s worth every penny! The portions are delicious yet plentiful and Margaritas oh so tasty!! On this trip I had the carnitas burrito! WOW! The ambiance is dark w twinkly colorful lights but just a enough light to star ⭐️ gaze Incase you see someone ( as we did👍🏼). All in all don’t walk but run to Casa Vega you will not be disappointed!! 🤗
The best Mexican food anywhere.
I grew up in Studio City, and I've been coming here for almost fifty years. The food is always excellent, and I highly recommend the enchilladas rancheras. The salsa is the best on the planet. The place is open until 1 am--and serves dinner until that time. And the food is consistently excellent. Lots of beautiful people to look at while you wait for a table, too. It's funny, but the only good server is the owner. The rest are mediocre. And the bartenders are rude.
