Completely Overwhelmed With How Awesome It Was And The Food Was Incredible Too. Do yourself a favor and go in and try it

I've been here with my family (2 ads, 1 kid) and we really appreciated everything. Value for maney great! Add fried egg to your burger, you won't regret it.

Great chill out place, good seating, good music, great owner. And the food fabulous, great calamari rings, nice and crispy potato waffles but the burger unbelievable so many flavors and tasty meat cooked to perfection. Good wine selection as well for reasonable prices

Chose this place having walked around Korea Town and remembering reviews on TripAdvisor. Buzzy American hamburger joint, serving good food at reasonable price. One portion of fries (which are served in a brown paper bag) is sufficient for two. My wife is very allergic to garlic, but the staff were helpful and knowledgeable about the ingredients, so no difficulty in choosing a burger. Nice beer on draught. 2 burgers, 1 fries, 2 sides and 2 beers = $45 inc tip. Would go back again.

Great burger and great service! The chili cheese fries were great, but the burgers really shine here. The location was easy to find, however, seating was not. Plenty of people means great food though!

Hamburgers are good, but five stars because of the homemade pies. A bit pricey but major credit cards accepted.

Nice restaurant, noicy and some chaos in service. Really good blt sandwich and nice burger though. /Nils Sweden

Aâight Muthafochârs!! Moments before, we flew in from Denver, Colorado into Los Angeles, CA and starving, we discovered this âwho knew it was thereâ restaurant in our hotel called Cassellâs Hamburger. Once seated, we were approached by this cat whose movie star looks, rizz, physically fit groove, his voice mirrored that of a radio personality, etc. âHi, Iâm Kyle. What can I get for you today?â He handed us menus, we placed our respective orders and moments later, were served the BEST EFFân breakfast EVER!! This chit was off the effân chainâold skool talk. Kyle served up my specifically requested pancakes and a cremated sausage. My girl grooved on their breakfast sandwich with two eggs, an avocado on a brioche bun. Kyle returned to our table to see if all is well. âOh hell yeah all is well,â I replied. After consuming this deliciousness, Kyle returned with our check s brief chat. This cat is an aspiring ACTOR with a forthcoming INDIE film in a theater near you. This cat is from Kansas, heâs a musician, music producer, singer, songwriter, plays multiple musical instruments, e.g., bass, guitar, keyboards, a true thespian at heart. Do yourself an effân favor, drop by Cassellâs Hamburger located at 3600 W 6th St, Los Angeles, CA 90020, sit ya azz down, place an order and consume. Their menu is designed to satisfy and it does. Ask for Kyle! âŠmy veracity concludes.

Cassel's is within walking distance to the Best Western LA-Midtown Hotel where we stayed for a few nights. We visited Cassel's twice during our stay. The hamburger and fries were tasty and fresh. The burgers weren't too big - as can be at other places that cause you to regret stuffing your face! Service was great, staff was friendly. I noticed the 7 or so employees were always doing something - cleaning, wrapping utensils, restocking, etc - no one was standing around between customers. I wish we had room to try the pies - maybe next time. They have a full bar to complement the meals.

This was a nice and affordable breakfast, a good alternative if you're not craving the continental breakfast at the Normandie. Service was prompt, Very high quality ingredients...have to recommend the sausage made in house.

This place is outstanding. We came here for dinner two nights in a row while staying at The Line just up the road, and it was so good both times. My parents tried both the burgers and the toasted sandwiches and exclaimed at how good they were. I am a coeliac so had to find something gluten-free, so opted for the breakfast burger, and it did not disappoint, it was truly bloody outstanding! The vanilla coke was also so old-school and authentic, it was so good. Would 150% recommend to anyone staying in teh area.

We went there as I saw it on a t.v show. Worth the visit the burgers are amazing .price isn't to bad either. It was busy at lunch but no problem getting a seat.i would definitely go back if in l.a again

When I'm traveling I always try to find a good local burger joint. Cassell's showed up on a couple of LA's best burger lists and it was close to my daughter's house. This little diner-like restaurant is attached to the Normandie Hotel so look for that as a landmark. The burgers were first rate. great flavor and well cooked. The buns were especially good and the fries were well made. My daughter had the chicken sandwich and said that was really good too. If you're looking for a good no-frills burger place, this is a good choice. Next time we are going to make sure to leave room for the pies.

I'm not a big burger person. However, Cassell's seemed like an authentic spot for an old school experience when it comes to burgers. When I saw the patty melt on the menu, I went for it...plus bacon. It was delicious. The fries were pretty good as well. They were cooked to perfection. The staff are very friendly and the service was fast. It was a pretty good dining experience! Last thought, I thought it was a bit expensive.

My family and I ate here after attending a basketball game. We were all pleased with the food. The cheeseburger was to die for. I added bacon and grilled onions and one could certainly not have gone wrong. I'm not a big fry guy but the fries at Cassell's were some of the best I've had outside of Amsterdam. They were steaming hot when they hit our table. I'd certainly eat here again.

We went to Cassell's for breakfast. The restaurant sits on a corner with big windows and a has clean friendly feeling to it. The food is plentiful and very good. (Not outstanding, but good). I would certainly eat here again. All opinions here are my own.

Love this place! One of the best burgers I've ever had. Staff is very friendly! We will definitely be coming back here again.

I had the best veggie burger I ever tasted here, although I understand their regular burgers are even better. In any case, their service did not match the food. I had to call someone over to take my order, refill my water, and bring me my check. It wasn't that busy at the time so it could have been better.

I haven't been to this place in over 20 years. It's now gone a little upscale by moving to a renovated hotel. The burgers and awesome potato salad has not changed a bit. Worth a drive because it is not convenient to any freeway.

Was really carving Korean BBQ but my friend misunderstood what type of food it was . Walked past and could not decide but I was not in the mood for burgers. We finally stopped here and although it wasn't quite what I was looking for in found out it was what I needed. I got the chicken sandwich minus the bread ( they made it into a lettuce wrap with no problem). The burger was fresh, well seasoned and fried to perfection. It never had a chance. Service was great the pies looked awesome but did not agree with my diet so I just took mental pictures lol. Great burger joint

Was staying at Hotel Normandie next door. This was convenient and one of the few non-Korean options in the neighborhood. Since I'm vegetarian, burgers not of great interest and the burrito I had was just fair. But the house made potato chips and good selection of beers were a great plus, as were the delicious pies, also house made.

We stayed in LA for 4 nights and visited Cassells twice, as we liked it so much first time. The staff were super friendly and always willing to help. We had the cheese burger and the chicken burger, both really tasty and authentic, with a side order of the Kennebec fries. There was a great selection of handmade pies on offer for dessert.

Average pub, good ingredients, average prices, friendly staff, quaint pub..Quiet area..

Cheeseburger & side of fries was absolutely delicious - they hand-make their own patties! Meal was simply presented & delicious. Good selection of about 6 local beer on tap.

Decent servings, reasonable pricing but the sweet potato fries were sprinkled with sugar! My husband was very happy with his hamburger. Service was good.

Food was great! Service was average. Very fun atmosphere. Would definitely come back just wouldnât sit at the bar. Itâs like we were invisible.

Ate at the new airport location in the Southwest area. Had a great shake, delicious patty melt and onion rings. Upscale burgers for sure. Not cheap-nothing is at the airport. Very tasty. Friendly service.

Go for the burgers, stay for the pie. Cassell's burgers are 1/3 pound, perfectly cooked, on a Portuguese bun. They grind the beef in-house and offer a number of optional burger toppings. Delicious! We tried a couple of their homemade pies, which were very good. I highly recommend the banana cream pie. Service was fast and excellent.

I haven't been impressed with a burger in the city for a while... let's face it...we have quite a few options! I work downtown, and Shake Shack pissed me off!!!! And guess what's directly across the street??? HA!!!!! No shenanigans... A 9/10. Limited menu..but excellent.

I never got an opportunity to visit the old Cassell's but had heard great stories about the place over the years. So Saturday I righted that wrong and paid them a visit for lunch. WOW! One of the best burgers ever. They grind their organic, grass fed chuck and brisket daily - making for a juicy burger with tons of flavor. I added the uncured bacon to mine and it was pretty mind blowing. Their fries are hand cut and perfectly golden - served in a paper bag. I watched a wicked looking Cobb Salad being served at the next table and the onion rings at another table looked excellent. They also offer shakes and malts - which will be my excuse to go there again in the next couple of weeks! If you like a good, healthy, well made burger - this is your place! Service was top notch and very friendly.

Surrounded by Korean Bbq, this place is a standout. You can expect one of the best burgers in the city and friendly staff make it the place you return to.

Good hamburgers and excellent milkshakes Staff were friendly and atmosphere good Met some lovely locals at the bar Worth a visit, especially if youre staying at the Hotel Normandie

I love this Diner! Not only is the food fresh and amazing, the original style of the 1940s is still intact. You can easily imagine sitting on a stool at the window overlooking the corner of 6th and Normandie as people bustled by in hats/suits typical wardrobe of the day. The potato salad is a must try. It is made with homemade mayo and a hint if horseradish Yum!

Breakfast was so good. I never had the chance to try their burgers but my nephew did and it looked good. Will definitely be eating here again next time I am in LA.

The food rocked and your staff was super nice with info about how to ride the subway:) This is a diner setting, so burgers, sandwiches, and a good selection of local beers. Get the hamburger!

The burgers are excellent. But nowhere on their website or online menus do they say they use peanut oil for frying french fries, onion rings, etc. Since the most common food allergy is to peanuts I feel like I need to call this out and caution people.

Yes, this place has great burgers, but the pie is the star attraction in my opinion. They change them out often, but I had a blackberry pie and a slice of apple and both were delicious. I like the feel of the place. I sat at the counter since I was by myself and the waiters were very friendly and offered up suggestions since it was my first time. I was staying at the Shelter Hotel which was in walking distance so that was also a plus. You'll definitely enjoy a great meal.

Son took us here when I indicated I was in the mood for a good hamburger. Wow, the activity yesterday was remarkable. Watching a whole crew buzzing around with all knowing their individual responsibilities was amazing. But the best was yet to come. The hamburger was delicious. I ordered a medium and it was fantastic. Looking for a good burger, I would strongly recommend this restaurant for a try.

Arrived on a Thursday evening with my girlfriend. The room was full and we got seated at the bar facing kitchen. Service was efficient and the food REALLY tasty. The bun is delicious. Patty was great. The right place for delicious burgers.

I heard good things about iconic Cassells. Their original location is in Koreatown and I dined at their new place in downtown LA. The decor, ambience is very attractive...kind of a neo 50s look. They were very busy catering to the business lunch crowd but manager Enrique was very cordial taking care of me right away. Service by Alex & Connie was excellent and on point considering they were packed. My classic patty melt was delicious; I really savored every bite. My malted vanilla shake with ice cream was probably the best I've had in quite awhile. Prices are very reasonable considering this is the Rolls Royce of burger joints.

This small but efficient offshoot of the famed Koreatown OG burger haven is just as good as the original. In fact, the patty melt famously declared by David Chang to be worthy of putting on the menu of Momofuku may be one of the best things I have ever eaten (and believe me, Iâve eaten at some amazing places all over the world). I cant even explain the taste and texture because itâs so deliciously different. Cute diner bar concept. Alcoholic beverages served. So, doesnât matter if you are at TBIT, T7, T8, walk over to T3 (so youâre more hungry), and grab yourself the best meal LAX has to offer. Youâll be glad you did. Shake and onion rings also great. T3 is newly renovated with other good offerings. Large serving size but expensive, as airport food typically is. Great service!

Quick breakfast. Parking kind of tricky. I had the burrito and my hubby breakfast burger. Both really tasty, and lots of avocado! Hash brown super greasy, but tasty. And homemade lemon lime soda was delicious!!! Waiter wasn't super friendly, but quick.

I read the reviews before I took my trip, and this is an excellent addition to the Hotel Normandie. I had burgers on 2 different days, and they were both consistently delicious. The Patty Melt, was also super. I had the Banana Cream Dulce de Leche pie, and I would walk to LA from Seattle to have another slice. Saw Alton Brown there one night, so I felt comfortable with my choice.

We stayed at the Normandie hotel hence took the convenience of visiting the Cassell's restaurant just next door. The interior is nice, fresh. Staff was very friendly - they found a table for 2 w/o reservation immediately. We had hamburger in rye bread, coleslaw and sweet potato fries and IPA - all of it was just perfect :) Fully recommended

the service in Cassell's was excellent, the food was excellent and it was at a reasonable price, the staff were just brilliant, they didn't rush you to choose your meal, they waited while you were ready to order which in my book is what you want, they also catered for children, all in all excellent that's why i have given it 5stars.

Visited here on Saturday 03/30/19 with my mom while she was visiting from the Midwest. First thing is parking. Just know that they are located on the Corner and there is street parking only. We parked at a meter around the corner and walked. It wasn't super busy when we walked in and we were seated right away. They have small tables and counter seating. The restaurant itself isn't huge, but also not too small. They also have some seating outside. The only thing I was disappointed by was the amount of choices on the menu; hence my 4 stars and not 5. However, they also serve breakfast here. Our server was pleasant, but she didn't come back to refill our water bottle, and we had to flag her down for extra napkins because there were none in the holder on our table. She was nice though and didn't rush us to order; and our food came out in a timely manner. I ordered the cheeseburger with kennebec fries and a side salad and my mom ordered a ham and cheese sandwich with sweet potato crisps. My burger was cooked perfectly medium well and the lettuce and tomatoes tasted fresh. The grilled onions I added extra were ample and not skimpy. My fries were perfectly cooked crisp on the outside with a soft middle. My mom said her sandwich was good, and although the sweet potato crisps were good, she wasn't really fond of the sweetness. They tasted as if there was sugar sprinkled on them instead of salt. My side salad was also delicious. The veggies were fresh and they tossed it in just the right amount of salad dressing; not too much like some places where the lettuce leaves are soggy. All in all, the food and experience was good and not too expensive. If I want a good burger in the future, I would definitely consider eating here again.

Tasty vegetarian options, including veggie burger and killer salad. Cute atmosphere and very convenient if staying in hotel Normandie (attached).

Pretty good eats with a downtown feel, the food was quite tasty A touch overpriced but not as bad as some other places in LA. Well worth a good little lunch or dinner and a fun little ambience.

Went to Cassels for burgers last night. Four of us each chose different burgers and we had a table full of sides. We can be picky about our burgers and fries... but not here!!!! Everything... and I mean everything was perfection!

Stopped in last night to grab take out for dinner. Got the cheese burger and fries - the burger is cooked to your liking, I prefer mine medium rare. The kitchen got it spot on. Although the take out box(!) had all the fixings for the burger, I opted to go without any, the burger stood by itself, very tasty. They gave me a good amount of fries too, more than I could eat. Overall a great experience. Recommended.

Nice atmosphere, all great from service to ambient music. The french toast is delicious and served in a generous portion. Nice coffee and orange juice, but the latter is a bit too sweet.

This place was right in our hotel so went there for breakfast. Overall food was o.k. but nothing outstanding. They are known for burgers so this place would probably be better suited for lunch or dinner. The restaurant has recently been restored and has a great retro feel. Would come back to try the burgers.

Pretty standard...nothing special. If youâre in the mood for a burger and youâre nearby and in the mood for a typical diner experience you canât go wrong.

Love the old-fashioned drug store burger and shakes? This is your place. Thick shakes, fries, and burgers of many varieties. They also have a good breakfast if you are looking for home cooking. These folks serve a good short stack of pancakes. If you can walk to the location, I'd advise you do so as there is street parking which is limited.

Retro vibe. Great burgers and fries. Milk shakes were good, disappointed they were out of vanilla ice cream on a Tuesday evening đ«

I pass by this coffee shop every Tuesday night on my way to chorale rehearsal and it's always packed with people. Intriguing looking people. I told myself that I'd stop by eventually since I'm often in the mood for a great coffee shop and all those folks had to know something I needed to investigate for myself. I got there after 11am on a Sunday morning, too late for the decadent pancake breakfast I had been anticipating--boo!!--and the only other thing on the menu to catch my eye was the patty melt. Wow....all was quickly forgiven. Fresh and juicy, perfectly cooked and presented, I don't think I've ever had a better patty melt than Cassell's version. Sorta crazy that something so simple could be so satisfying, but it helped to explain this restaurant's popularity. Still gotta make it a point to get there early enough to try those pancakes, though...

I gave Cassell's Hamburgers an excellent rating because if you're looking for a great burger, this place rates and rates high! Nothing too fancy but quality ingredients and served exactly as ordered. I had the 2/3 pound burger with extra grilled onions and cheddar, asked for it medium rare and was served exactly as asked! Other toppings were included on the side. My friend asked for his burger somewhat different and also received his exactly as he asked and was very pleased with his order! Service was prompt and friendly. Great vibe over all. Excellent pies for dessert (we had the blackberry pie that was reminiscent of the way grand-ma used to bake them. Good selection of soft drinks as well as coffee and alcohol. Prices were fair and in general i highly recommend Cassell's and i will return!

You'll have a feel of a classic vintage burger joint serving American fare in a diner setting. A real American gem in Korea Town. Sandwiches are juicy and real tasty. It makes me wish for a longer stay in LA because I can't try everything in one sitting.

The restaurant is adjoined to hotel normandie where we were staying for 3 nights. We ate here whilst we waited for our room to be ready and we ate here again on the day we checked out. Both times we had breakfasts and were satisfied with the food we ordered. The menu is nice with plenty of options to choose from.

classic hamburgers! the beef is ground in house and cooked to order. The simple condiments, onion, pickle, tomato, lettuce, are all one needs on a burger but, oh! don't forget Cassell's burger sauce! It makes the burger. Their famous potato salad is delicious but french fries always sit next to my burger. The only knock on our experience was it took 15 minutes to get our bill after our table was cleared. We had to request it twice.

Burger place that also serves breakfast. Many sandwich choices. I had the simple grilled cheese and it was great. Lots of sides to choose from for very reasonable price. Full bar. Beers include microbrew or Olympia. Nice choice, I'll go back and recommend.

Brilliant breakfast. Also brilliant burgers. Really recommend it. Such nice staff and just a really nice feel to the place. Loved it.

Stayed at the hotel Normandine and ate here because it was so close. I have no complaints about my food. It was good, nothing great. If I stayed at the same hotel, I would not be opposed to eating here again.

In the running for the best burger I have ever eaten. And I have eaten a lot of them. Had the classic for lunch. Came back two days later and, although they offer a traditional breakfast menu, had it again for breakfast. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Can enter from the street or an Inside entrance from Hotel Normandie. Very convenient for guests of the hotel. Reasonably priced and fast service.

I am obsessed with burgers, and getting the opportunity to try Cassell's was a highlight of our time in Los Angeles. The retro space instantly made me smile, and the vibe all round was perfect. The simplicity of their burgers is inspiring as it is built on flavour, which isn't lacking. I love nostalgia, and Cassell's packs an abundance of this, Everyone needs to do themselves a favour! Memorable in every way. Just wow!

Ate here twice during our stay, once for breakfast and once for dinner. Delicious food that isn't too expensive. Service was great, both sitting at a table and at the bar. Can get busy for dinner but worth a wait

I like the concept of this restaurant. They serve beef from cows not fed with antibiotics or hormones. The service crew was friendly. However, I was disappointed by the Vegan Burger. The patty was thin and dry, and contained more flour than mushroom. It's not worth the price paid. I hope they can improve on the recipe.

Thanks Cassell's for the reminder big what a hamburger used to taste like free of anti-biotics and hormones. Macaroni salad is different and really good. Love just coming across these old timers. Albeit Cassell's is under new ownership. It's busy here. The pomegranate pie is delicious. I/We need to get out of LA. Pounds are begining to stack. This is without reading reviews. Buzzy feel here with such a diverse crowd.

Utterly fantastic with friendly, chirpy staff with a focus on the classic American burger joint - good selection of beers (with open and honest recommendations), food cooked just as requested and served with flair for simple fayre.

Its a good restaurant .. And the staff really friendly. The chicken was spicy though. But the burger was delicious.

We were all tired and jet lagged and this burger hit the spot. A good, clean cheeseburger on a delicious soft Portuguese bun, with the veggies on the side (including pickle!). They do a $15 burger/fries/beer combo during happy hour and that was a great deal. But the kicker of the meal was the ginger beer - spicy, ginger goodness!

In the middle of bustling Korea Town on the ground floor of the recently renovated Normandy Hotel sits LA's best burger joint. A retro diner that is clean, friendly and serves great food at a fair price. The burgers are ground fresh daily, juicy and perfectly cooked every time. French fries hand cut. Try it, you'll like it.

During my trip in LA, I came across this Hamburgers place while I was staying at the LINE Hotel. And all I can say the patty melt is amazing. I came twice just for that. And the bar as the best drink at a very reasonable price. Its a place to have a few drinks before going to another place. Good food, good service, great price...

Cassell's takes traditional diner fare to the next level with great ingredients and homemade offerings that are delicious and satisfying. Burgers, shakes, freshly baked pies and desserts, and so much more! I'm always happy for a visit to Cassell's for the food and great people watching.

They have a limited menu but do it well. Ate here twice mostly because of convenience but good both times. Definitely an old school burger but they will cook it medium rare. Patty a little burnt from the flat top because that's the way it's supposed to be. Served with lettuce, tomato, pickle like it's supposed to be. Fries not fresh cut but tasty because cooked properly. Milk shake was decent. Wished they opened early for breakfast.

I go to Cassel's about once a month. Their burger is great, as is the grilled ham and cheese. My breakfast choice is always the breakfast burrito with sausage and french fries folded in. Comes with a decent pico de gallo on the side. My other favorite is the fried chicken sandwich with an spicy apricot sauce and cole slaw. Sides are extra, potato salad, cole slaw and french fries are all really good. The bag of fries is big enough for two people to share. Service is almost always really gracious and speedy. Parking in that neighborhood is often a little scarce.

Next to the Normandie Hotel this is a great little Coffee and Burger eatery. Arriving from a late evening flight this was an excellent place to get a meal. Although the place was busy the service was good and the hamburgers were cooked fresh and of good quality. This has a great buz about it and is a popular eating place

Al Cassel was a unique guy. The meat had to be fresh. The bread big and thin. The potato salad abundant. The burgers are still good, however they ration the tomatoes, and potatoes salad .None of the old buffet. Fries (something Al would never do). A good burger but not worth the cost and parking problems. Gone are the great rye bread sandwiches.

We were staying in the adjoining Normandie Hotel and ate here twice. The main option is burgers which were lovely, they also have a drinks menu which includes their home made lemonade (recommended) and alcoholic drinks.

This restaurant and bar are on the first floor of the Hotel Normandie where we stayed for 4 nights and 3 days. We ate there every day and twice on one day. The hotel offered a free continental breakfast which we happily skipped in favorite of the fabulous breakfast served here. Everything is good but the Hash Browns are nothing short of a wonder! They are literally golden brown and crispy all over - like they've been deep fried (they haven't). The potato hash tastes freshly shredded and the coup de gras is a slab of butter melted into this glorious mess! Oh my, my, my! No, it's not the healthiest thing in the world but it's over the moon delicious. The hamburgers are equally outstanding. The patties are hand pressed and grilled to perfection, the vegetables are market fresh (tip: include the fresh onions - sweet and savory!) and the buns are gourmet quality bread. One late night we also had the Key Lime and Egg Custard pies as a "night cap." Wow! Just wow! The crusts are perfect, the filling amazing, and the whipped cream fresh and fluffy. Another nice touch was an added layer of graham cracker on TOP of the Key Lime - I had never seen that before and was surprised that such a simple touch could make such a big difference. Get the Key Lime folks - it's the best! Finally, one last tip: Get the Herbal Tonic. Amazing, just amazing! I would drive to Cassell's from my office in downtown L.A. just to get one of these! Really, no joke. Unfortunately, I've had to take away 1-star from my rating because there were two big disappointments. First, the coffee is awful. Just awful! It tastes like drip Italian Roast that's been left to burn on the warmer all day and then served right before closing time. At first I thought it was just a bad batch and was going to ask for a freshly brewed cup but my wife told me that she had just seen the waiter freshly brew and pour it. Undeterred we tried it again only to be equally disgusted a second time. Different waiter, different day, same result. Yuck only begins to describe it! It appears that the coffee roaster that Cassell's is using has decided to one up Starbuck's "Italian roast to the atomic level" strategy by doing an "Italian roast to the SUB-atomic level." The result folks, is even worse than Starbuck's "nuked" dark roasted coffees (and I thought that was impossible) The solution here is simple: Order an Americano instead. We had that with our pies that it was much, much, much better. The other disappointment - and this was shocking - is the Potato Salad. It looks and tastes a scoop of mashed potatoes with some horse radish and/or mustard mixed it. No texture, no potato cubes, no real flavor to speak of. I know that this is supposed to be one of the things that people rave about when it comes to Cassell's but I just don't get it! I not only hated but would steer you away from it. It's both visually unappealing and unpleasant to eat - imagine pulling out cold, left over mash potatoes with horse radish mixed in and you've pretty much got it. No one is more surprised than I am at saying this! Ewww yuck. The solution here again is simple: Don't order it. My wife got the French Fries and they were amazing! If you want potatoes order them instead. Overall, we love Cassel's and will MOST definitely be back. However, we won't ordering the coffee or the potato salad ever again.

Got chatting to a local on the bus who recommended Cassell's for burgers - he was right! Enjoyed it so much we came back the next morning for breakfast Good food and good service

Very good address, the place seems to be typical, we ate Burger, sandwich, salad, fries, onion rings, very good, good service also.

Have been going here for forty years although different locations. Consistently great hamburgers, tuna sandwiches and yummy desserts. They are now part of a hotel that is lovely to sit in and have a drink or just relax

You cannot go wrong eating here. The portions are large and the food is tasty. There is even a bar here for the thirsty! The coffee is even good. It's not some colored water with an almost non-existent coffee flavor. If you ask for water, you will get a bottle for the table. Cassell's offers good ole American comfort food in the form of hamburgers, breakfast burritos, fried chicken sandwiches, pancakes, salads and more. This place has pies and milk shakes. If you like house specialty cocktails, you'll find a nice selection available. Service can be a bit crazy especially if the place is jammed with customers. Overall a fun experience is to be had.

We stayed at the Hotel Normandie and had the best breakfast at Cassel's. We ate there every morning. My husband really enjoyed the breakfast burger- a burger with an egg & cheese-the bun was made from hash brown potatoes. Even though the hotel offers a good Continental breakfast buffet. By the way, the hotel has a lot of of character and the staff are fabulous. Nice updated rooms and we will stay there again.

Found this little corner diner while searching TripAdvisor, of course! While helping my son move out to LA, we needed lunch! This was a please all place. As a vegan, he enjoyed their vegan âburgerâ and my sister and I each had a fantastic salad.

I was expecting a good burger figuring it was LA, but this place was fairly expensive for a burger and it wasn't very good. I was hoping for something that could at least touch the surface of an Inn and Out Burger that I had a couple weeks prior in LA, but I was sorely disappointed. One of our burgers had to get sent back because it wasn't right and the other one was slopped on so bad that I had to peel it open, cut it, and slap it on the other half of the patty melt. The meat of such poor quality that I could barely eat it and I was pretty aggravated by it because I'll pay for quality meat. I would have preferred Steak n Shake or some other corporate entity that at least tries a little harder, which is pretty sad because I feel that is a low bar for a California hamburger.

A Coffee bar, a Cocktail bar & a Snack bar. Coffee in me is a good thing and their coffee found a new home. While I don't drink alcohol, the bar was casual & quiet; good ambiance. The burger place is a friend to large side dishes & the meat is cooked to preference per the customer.

If you want an amazing burger, fries and a malt, look no further than Cassell's. Making burgers since 1948. Small cool diner next to historic Normandie Hotel [take a peek in the lobby after your burger] located in Koreatown. And don't forget to top off your lunch with a piece of delicious homemade pie - or take it home. We arrived on a Sunday around 12:30 and did not wait, but there was a line when we left. Parking is very tricky in the area, but there is reasonable valet parking [$3] at the hotel. Oh, the burgers, malts and pieces of pie are large enough to share if you are so inclined.

Cassells is on 8th Street in Los Angeles. It specialises in hamburgers but has a small selection of healthy salads which we enjoyed a lot. And the pineapple pie and ice cream was to die for. The staff were attentive and friendly. Thanks for the chat Nick. We enjoyed dining here and did so for three nights of our four day visit to wonderful LA. Thanks Cassells.

My wife and I were travelling in L.A for a holiday. We gave Cassell's a shot and we were hooked! Great, Friendly staff, accompanied with delectable food, what's there more to ask. We literally had to stop by again on the last day before we flew back. Our L.A trip would not have been complete without coming to Cassell's. Keep it up guys!

This place on the corner has great comfort food, wonderful service, and great energy.... And even at 9:00 PM on a Sunday night, the place was hopping with locals, who obviously love their corner food place.

There were five in our group and we all liked this place so much that we just ate there every day while staying in a near by hotel. The onion rings are to die for and the coffee was fabulous! Best veggie burger weâve ever eaten. We also loved their pies and shakes. Highly recommend!

We looked around in LA for the best burger, and this place was consistently mentioned on the sites we visited so we thought we'd give it a try. It definitely lived up to our expectations! It's a great burger -- very high quality ingredients, cooked perfectly, and served by good people. On the menu, for some reason they only indicate that Swiss and Cheddar cheese are available, but luckily we asked if they offered American cheese. They did. It seems like you have to know the secret wink to get this. The place has a scene somewhat reminiscent of the 60s, which I thought was pretty cool. Definitely worth a visit!

Just had dessert and the pie was awesome! Burgers and fries looked amazing. Classic diner vibe. Connected to Normandie hotel.

I've been to this place twice now since I stay in the area on my layovers. They serve a great burger, very fresh, toasted bun. I will note that everything is priced out separate so the fries are $3.50, cheese burger 10.99, etc. The $6 shakes are good but you only receive the one glass not the silver mixer too. Also, if you order a soda, it's a bottle with no refills. Only drinks with refills are lemonade & ice tea. I love the burger they serve but next time I'm skipping the fries. They are $3.50 and they give you WAY to many and I personally don't find them very good. I expect better fries for a place like this. Customer service is great here! They are in top of their game and place is very well cleaned.I'd come back for a shake and burger though!

Visiting my son and we took a trip to Cassells and were totally blown away. Great atmosphere and customer service was super. The food is to die for!! Tuna salad was one of best ever and the Terriyaki salad is soo good but the burgers are so good and so fresh. We had the Patty Melt which was so good. The menu has something for everyone. I have to go back for Breakfast which even looks better than the dinner

After checking in late (after dark) at Hotel Normandie and not wanting to wander the streets, we chose to eat at Cassell's. As it turns out this was a good decision. We found the staff to be really friendly, service was great and we both really enjoyed our burger. We both chose to order the patty melt. We had one side of regular fries and upgraded to the sweet potato waffle fries too. My burger was served just how I like it but OH likes his burgers cooked through and had forgotten to mention this at ordering. Our server took it back and they cooked it to his liking. The kitchen staff and the server were very apologetic, even though it wasn't their fault. Another good thing about Cassell's is the value. I think this was the cheapest and one of the nicer restaurants we ate at during our trip. The bill only came to $35. Would visit again, even if staying in a different LA area.

As a burger brat, I feel Cassell kicks up their burger to top notch by using quality ingredients. Cassell's burgers have great flavor and their food menu is awesome. Although it sits unassumingly at the corner of Normandie and 6th Street on the Southwest corner, it stands out with the quality of food served. I love their Burgers, Fries, Shakes and their breakfast menu cannot be beat.

Stayed at the Hotel Normandie and as this was on the doorstep, decided to give it a go. Pleasantly surprised with quality - served excellent patties! Wine good, but only served by the glass. Staff friendly and helpful

Next door to our hotel, this is a great little coffee shop with awesome Burgers. A bustling place at all hours, but waits are minimal. Plenty of homemade pies, very casual and the service was excellent. The sign on the door says "since 1948" so they have lots of experience and are getting it right!

Hamburger is one of my favorite food. LaChoza. Great food, great price. it's already crowded enough :) I just wish I could give it more than 5 stars.

Cassell's is reborn with a cool hip location but still delivering that 50's diner feel. The food is traditional diner style and solid. The burgers are awesome and the staff is friendly. The chicken sandwich is a must have. This place is a must try!! Cool old school style pie case!!

This was a good place to grab a quick bite to eat. Staff were friendly and attentive. The burger was great, and you also got a lot of fries. The portion size was great for the price. Recommend a visit if youâre looking for a quick burger and wine.

We had a lovely evening filled with burgers at Cassell's. Out of the three burgers we sampled, my favourite was the classic cheeseburger, closely followed by the vegan burger, which was great as well. Would recommend this place to anyone who is in the market for a nice hearty burger, definitely worth the trip from West Hollywood :-)

Admittedly, I went here after watching The Burger Show on YouTube. I was not disappointed. The patty was so rich, I decided against fries. I would love to come back with the missus and split some fries. Maybe even the patty too. Beer is a must.

visited this place for lunch with a colleague, and I must say, it carries a nostalgic charm. As I often pass by it on my way to work, stepping inside felt like a trip down memory lane. One standout feature of this place is their selection of housemade flavored sodas.

We order the simple burger. It was good, Just Regular burger , u cant expect too much . But you can expect a lot of farts đš đ€§đ€§đ€§

Had the patty melt, small fries and cream soda for the classic diner experience. It did not disappoint! Flavoursome, perfectly cooked, nicely presented. In sum, friendly service, cool diner, tasty food, old skool feel. I was highly tempted by dessert but I was full!

We were looking forward to eating at Cassell's and it didn't disappoint. We shared a chocolate malt which wasn't large, but was delicious. I had a tuna melt and it was the best I've ever had. It was a large portion with a lot of tuna. There was extra cheese that was fried, yum! The mayo was a blend of mayo and whole grain mustard with some tang which may have been horseradish. My husband had classic hamburger. He said it was excellent. A juicy beef patty with great beef flavor and crunchy on the outside of the patty. The restaurant is authentic, old school diner experience.

I get to frequent DTLA because of work. I made it a point to go and visit all the nice restaurants that I could find. I randomly typed hamburgers on Google maps and this restaurant showed up. This place was great in so many ways. 1. Appearance 2. Food 3. Service #1 The restaurant has sort of a double tiered design as you enter the building. As you enter their tables on a lower floor you walk up half a flight of stairs to another set of tables and that's where you make your orders. It's unique you don't see this sort of design often. #2 I think I had the quarter-pound cheeseburger. I'm going to try to compare the taste to another restaurant that I particularly light. This place's burgers are on par or better than "super duper" in San Francisco. (I meant that as a compliment) I cannot think of too many if at all burger joints to compare this place to. Cassell vanquishes their competition. Just a wonderful juicy burger đ that spots in my top 3 burgers EVER in my life. #3 the service was good. This is kind of difficult to measure. Because back when I used to be young this sort of service was the norm. "Fancy that" treating the customer as king used to be a normal thing. Now its considered to be special,,, how far we have fallen. The service was good. I left a good size TIP without having that WTF feeling. I'm definitely going back here again the next time I'm in LA

Cassell's, a remake of a former Los Angeles burger landmark, provides high quality food at a reasonable price. The newly reopened restaurant hews to the classic diner vibe with updated ingredients. Parking can be a challenge but it's worth the hassle.

Really quick service, friendly staff, affordable but yummy food. Had a couple of good veggie options as well. The place had a very vibrant feel.

Pumpkin milkshake was incredible! The scratch kitchen is fabulous - I was traveling with individuals with food allergies. We enjoyed all 3 of the meals we had during our stay in Los Angeles.

This review is for the downtown location, which is the only one I have visited. Excellent burger! So delicious. I also ordered a cherry Coke (seemed like the thing to do in this diner-type restaurant) and it was so good. They make it with their own cherry syrup and use Mexican bottled Coke, which everyone knows is the best Coke. The service was so friendly. I had just come from a bar where I had gotten terrible service, and these guys were so warm and welcoming and friendly that it made my night. I am 100% coming back here on my next visit to LA. I have to try their pie (I was too full this time around!)

researched this place from abroad before we came out to LA as we wanted breakfast options close to our hotel. We was only in LA for 4 night and we had to come back a couple of times as the food was outstanding aswell as the service. Our first time here I opted for the breakfast burger , so so so so damn good! A hash brown as a burger bun , a perfect medium patty with a fried egg avocado and their special sauce. On my second visit I opted for the banana chocolate chip pancakes with vanilla butter. Absolute perfection , the waitresses were genuinely very kind which made our experience even better thank you. I will back in the near future when I visit LA

We came here as we heard many good reviews regarding the burgers here. We ordered the cheese burger set and you can choose how well you want the meat to be cooked. The burgers turned out to be one of the best that I ever had. It was juicy yet not oily. The French fries on the side was good too worth it.

We stayed at the adjoining Hotel Normandie and spent almost every evening and many breakfasts at this great diner. It has a great charm and excellent organic food. The prices are reasonable. Highly recommend for those looking for a great place to relax and get great food and beverages.

It is not about how many choices you have but about how good they are. Cassel's burger menu has 4 choices and a collection of sides and sauces to make it your way. I tried both the party melt and the cheese burger: delicious. The sweet potatoes waffle fries are to die for (crispy and sweet), the signature potato salad comes in a bowl like a scoop of ice and it is just perfect. Also tried the raspberry pie and the lemon pie... also perfect. Add to that a cool smiling service, fast and efficient... you have a winner. The place is clean and welcoming. Also note a great choice of Rye Bourbons for anybody interested in after dinner drinks. Been twice and might go back this evening!

Employees looked overwhelmed. Burgers were burnt. At $12:50 per burger!! Are you kidding me!? Might as well close.

I came here based on a recommendation from a friend who lives here and even if there are better burgers I ate back home, those guys know what to do (except that it was a bit to spicy for my girlfriend, so she had to change it. But the guys were super friendly changing it without even charging something in addition. Good place, but hands off the spicy things ;)

Ludicrously long wait followed by an average burger. Not for the discerning restaurant goer. Staff poorly trained.

This "burger joint" is exactly the place you would like to find for food, drinks (full bar plus shakes and floats and ...), hand ground beef, delicious everything...and picture perfect!

Juicy burger, delicious fries, hazy IPA and a milkshake that was so tasty I probably shouldnât have had it, great staff and a retro diner vibe. What is not to like?

Fresh ground chuck form grass fed cattle sourced from a rancher in Colorado, in house crafted pies made form real fruit nothing canned. Lemonade and soft drinks made from scratch. House made ketchup and mayo. The quality is in the fine details. A lot of effort is put forth to produce "real" food and not the processed, big agricultural and mad scientest crap. Yes its expensive, but for some twisted reason food thats not sprayed, processed or made in a laboratory,( you know the kind your grandparents ate) cost more.

A hamburger place that serves a hearty breakfast of eggs, hash browns, toast, and coffee at a reasonable price.

I've eaten a LOT of burgers across the country over my lifetime, and I know we all have our burger preferences, but THIS one hit all the key burger qualities for me. Not fancy or fussy, perfect meat to bun ratio (I got the 1/3 pound size), right amount of grease, sturdy pickles (optional), crispy lettuce, housemade Thousand Island, American cheese, etc... There was also a decent selection of beer and a full bar, in case you want a cocktail with your burger. It was the kind of burger I talked about for many days. So good. Wish there was a location near me, but probably best for my pant size that there is not!

Waited an hour, burgers mixed up, no drinks at all despite ordering at the beginning, absolute disastrous service...the burgers were good though...

Best breakfast! Burgers and Shakes, open til late for wine etc. Friendly staff. We had breakfast here during our stay at Hotel Normandie, the food was YUM and it has a great vibe :-)

If you are wanting a hamburger or cake (pie) you can not go past Cassell's. Worth a visit, I recommend breakfast burger and pecan pie, delicious!

I ate here as it was conveniently located on the way home after a long day exploring the city; the service was nothing to write home about and the food was average at best. There is so much better food to be had in this area!

I think we ended up coming here a total of 5 times in our short trip to LA. It was just around the corner from our hotel and consistently good service and food. The staff were friendly and attentive, both breakfasts and dinners delicious and well priced. Highly recommend the cob salad and the hot cakes! Great coffee too.

The correct location, not found on trip advisor, was around 8th and Olive in downtown Los Angeles, across the street from the Freehand Hotel. It was very busy and only had one person taking orders and busing tables. Had they had more people, it would get 5 stars. Burger was very good. Not much more to say about it.

Restaurant is retro, makes you go back in time. Very friendly and quick service. Excellent burgers on great buns. Homemade type fries. Delicious.

We came here for breakfast. My husband had the breakfast burger and pancakes, I had the fruit with granola and yoghurt. Everything was very good and we would go there again!

Fantastic burger, fries and shake. Everything on the menu looked amazing. The staff were great as well. Will definitely go again!

Had a nice burger and toasted sandwich they were pretty busy and the food was good average price with plenty of selection worth a try

Wanted to try an authentic burger whilst visiting LA. Cassells really hit the spot for American diner experience. Lovely smiley faces to greet you, and explain what burgers at different temperatures meant!! (In UK it how well would you like your meat cooked). First rate burgers, fries and beer!! Can see why they've been going so long. Would go back in a heartbeat. Yum!!! đ„° Thank you!

We loved this place so much we went back three times! The breakfasts are delicious and the endless coffee is the perfect way to start the day.

I was staying at the Hotel Normandie for several days. Great place to grab a microbrew in the evening and catch part of a game on the tv. Bartenders and staff are really friendly. Happen to grab a late lunch and it did not disappoint. Had a classic burger, onion rings and chocolate shake. My brother had the patty melt and vanilla shake. Burger is $14-$16 dollars, but weâll worth it. Classic soda shop atmosphere and very tasty burger. Was a complete treat and hit the spot.

Best onion rings ever! And the vanilla milkshake...awesome. The staff is very friendly and the decor is beautiful.

We arrived tired and hungry but left having had a good meal. It's not over priced and food is fresh and tasty (Especially the fries which are cooked in peanut oil)

It's my first time in America so I wanted some really good diner food, Cassell's didn't disappoint. Order a grilled cheese, fries, was made fresh perfect first meal in LA. Would recommend food is good and staff are friendly đđŒ

My wife and I had two dinners there. Both were excellent. In addition to great burgers, sandwiches, and salads they have great side dishes and can't be beaten pies. They also have a full bar so you can have beer, wine, or a mixed drink. The prices were right and it was a fun place for dinner.

I went here for breakfast and the food was over cooked. The bacon was almost burnt, the hash browns was very dry, and the eggs was dry. I would hope that the burgers would be better than the breakfast.

My family and I visited Cassell's this afternoon and it won't be our last visit. All of us felt their burgers were outstanding and prepared to our liking. I particularly liked their signature burger the Patty Melt. The fries were outstanding as well. Served really, really hot they were a hit all around. The chicken sandwich looked great as well as their other dishes which we will try on a later visit.

It seems like everything on the menu is just delicious with friendly service in a charming atmosphere. The tuna melt was totally amazing, I got sides of avocado and mushrooms to go with it. The chicken fried chicken sandwich was out of this world. We loved the diner atmosphere. Food came out quickly and everyone was super friendly. We came back for dessert and the homemade pies were absolutely delicious.

Ate dinner at Cassell's while staying at Hotel Normandie. Food was delicious, reasonably priced and service very good. It is a small menu but very convenient and good food.

The staff was friendly and efficient. The food is overpriced for what it is. The handmade sodas were very good. We visited Cassell's because it was convenient to our hotel and open late. I felt the food was overpriced for what it was. We had burgers and sweet-potato fries. The burgers were fine, but not cooked the way we ordered them, and the fries were Goldilocks Fries - 1/3 undercooked, 1/3 just right and 1/3 overcooked. The next day we ate an early lunch there and had the same experience with the food, even though we tried something different.
Great Diner in an Historic Hotel
Popular Corner Diner in the Hotel Normandie of Korea Town. Generous portions & creative dishes prepared quickly & served efficiently. A hand-painted Menu Board on the wall could stand an updating of the prices posted. Highly recommended.
