We went for a quick bite/ early dinner as we had evening plans. We each had a large starter, scallops with portobello mushrooms and mussels in a spicy sauce with toasted bread to dip as well as sharing a vegetable side. The food is excellent and very fresh. Expertly prepared and served by a friendly staff. Well worth a visit if in the Castro district.

I had the rainbow trout - it's the best I've ever had! We didn't need a reservation on a Saturday night - we walked right in. They also bring you amazing bread.

Catch is a lot of fun. The pianist during brunch made up for a limited vocal range with an almost unlimited enthusiasm for his showtunes repertoire. The guys at the bar sing along and everyone is having a good time. The food is good and reasonably priced but this isn't about the food. It's the experience, which is a you-can't-be-unhappy-here feel. It's a nice way to spend an hour on Sunday. You'll leave smiling.

Catch is very well located on Castro area. It looks like very nice from outside and open quite late. Decoration of the place is pleasant even if I was in the covered terrace (a little bit cool in winter). There was only two other tables in the restaurant which is very few. Food was good but a little bit pricey.

the restaurant is still great. we had their whole fish Bronzino grilled with crispy skin, as an Cole slaw and sauce. Absolutely great. It is better this year. We also ordered their artichoke and potato soup, really great. Ordered roasted Brussels sports and order of spinach. Wow we barely finished this meal. They have some great chardonnay , sauvignon blancs. They will help you order. Great personal care in service. very attentive to your needs.

Farewell dinner with my SF friends. Great cocktails, particularly the house specials. Very attentive but not intrusive service, The Grilled Artichokes were beautiful, fresh and very well cooked. The Angel Hair pasta looked wonderful, and my companions loved it. Highly recommend as a place to have cocktails and great food

We love catch. The dishes are unique and well thought out. Plus the wait staff is friendly and always willing to assist with a wine pairing. You may have to watch yourself though or you'll end up with a pretty hefty check at the end of the night. The three of us didn't scrimp (but didn't go over board) and we walked out with a $370 bill! Ouch! But it was sooooo good!

Catch has lost its hip vibe and has been replaced with a seen-before, average fare, overpriced upscale bistro. Service was cool, perhaps because I arrived late and servers wanted to close up. Will probably not go back unless with a group. Suggest dining at the bar if you are solo.

As good as it was when it first opened. Both the Restaurant and the Chef have kept up with the changing times in regard to food trends and have kept it "Fresh". Very pretty and soothing ambiance. I believe we avoided any rush by dining @ 6:00 on a Sunday. Seated and greeted promptly, water poured, hot french bread and butter delivered and enough for a table of 5 with a refresh after the 1st basket was devoured. Price - Pricey... certainly for some items, which I will reference below. Sides & Appetizers: Very nice selection again not overwhelming and could be made a meal of. Presentation: Very attractive Temperature: All food hot (which is often not the case for me) Portion: Plentiful Menu: Varied choices to cover all food desires but not overwhelming. Favorites: Calamari Starter ($15) the menu says with green beans but geez, if they were there, there were only 5 stalks. Breaded and cooked perfectly. Roasted Red and Golden Beet Salad was gorgeous, refreshing and wonderful combination of flavors ($13) Glazed Black Cod ($29), 3 diners had this and it was wonderful, truly melted in your mouth. On a gorgeous bed of wonderful, squash, green beans, spinach, almonds, capers. Wild Salmon ($28) cooked beautifully Lobster Fettuccine ($28) just what you would expect from a Fettuccine, but honestly not worth $28 compared to the fresh fish dishes @ $28. There was a "special roasted Cauliflower and Potato Soup" I was dying to try but a BOWL (no cup) was $16.00. THIS WAS THE OVER THE TOP PRICED ITEM I REFERRED TO EARLIER. COME ON, IT'S SOUP! We had 3 lovely dessert but honestly I can only remember one, a Bourbon Bread pudding and the others were all very delicious. I would return to this local gem, but only for a very special occasion. I just can't afford places like this anymore and unfortunately this has now become "the norm", just not normal for me.

Being vegetarian we found it quite difficult to find places to eat in the Castro area. Catch is a mainly seafood restaurant housed in what was the former home of the Aids quilt, some of the panels are on display in the foyer. The service was outstanding, pre dinner cocktails delicious. I had the grilled artichoke as a starter which I loved and the only veggie option was the risotto as a main but I also loved that. A weird after dinner cocktail of hot tea mixed with a secret ingredient which tasted of blueberries was unusual but very pleasant. A little pricey here but we were happy for the ambience, service and quality of food.

We went here from a recommendation from a local bar tender referring us. I would have to say the place is WAY overpriced for the quality of food you are getting.. When the server asked how everything was, we both hesitated and said it was just ok even though our plates were full.. She made NO effort to make our experience any better. Definitely not worth it.

Amazing experience and tasty faire. I had the lobster Alfred fettuccine and my partner had the short ribs dish. We started off with the crab appetizer. It was beautifully presented and tasted delightful. Certainly a great seafood option for a classy lunch or dinner.

Although service was excellent and proprietor was extremely nice and accommodating, there was a rowdy birthday crowd that put a damper on the experience. From the reviews we expected more from the food than was delivered. Risotto gummy, tuna wasn't a great cut and also not seasoned well. Despite service we won't be back and wouldn't recommend.

Fresh and lovely food and the terrace is a great place to sit and people watch. Service was good and I really enjoyed my lunch.

Great location near public transit. Very high quality of the food and great service. Wide choice of food on the menu. Excellent service

Went here for a Sunday dinner, after drinks in the Castro. Nice ambiance, great seafood and the service was spot on. The menu has a great variety to choose from and we definitely were not disappointed!

We made last minute reservations for Catch on New Years Eve. The staff was friendly though a bit scattered. We asked the waiter if the drink of the night was sweet and he said no. It turned out to be very sweet. My friend sent it back. I just think if the drink is going to be $14 then the waiter should know what it should taste like. I ordered the scallops and prawns with fettuccine. The fettuccine turned out to be very sweet as well. The scallops and prawns were great so I just ate that. In retrospect I should have just ordered the scallops appetizer and saved myself $15. My wife and friend ordered the halibut dish and they really liked it. Overall it was a good experience but perhaps not worth $300?

We came here to meet another couple for dinner on a Thursday evening. It wasn't too crowded, but since we hadn't made a reservation, I guess it was a good thing, as it would likely be a very popular place in its neighborhood. Instead of ordering individual glasses of wine, we decided to order a bottle, and between the four of us, it was just about the perfect amount for dinner. Two of us had a soup, which had a drizzle of truffle oil on it, which made it both pretty and tasty (not that the main flavor of the soup was lacking). We also ordered a mixed plate of deep-fried items like vegetables and seafood, accompanied by dipping sauces. All of us ended up ordering the same main course, the risotto, and we were all very happy to have ordered it. It was delicious and plentiful. We all shared one dessert because the risotto left little room in our stomachs for dessert! It was something between a pudding and a cake, and was quite tasty, as well. Overall, it was a very enjoyable evening, but it didn't come cheaply: for the four of us, sharing a single bottle of wine, and two of us having coffee with dessert, the tab came to about $300. Definitely a splurge, but worth it for a special dinner with friends.

In a historic building - the original workshop for people involved in the AIDS quilt - I came across Catch as a stop on a walking tour of the Castro neighbourhood. Still displaying panels of the AIDS quilt, I decided to come back with some friends for lunch. Ample and tasty portions and a nice selection of wines and beers - we were all very satisfied with the meal. The waiter was very friendly and helpful, I would definitely like to return for an evening meal on my next visit to San Francisco!

Out for a couples dinner, we shared two appetizers; ahi tuna tartare and mussels in a spice coconut broth. They were both delicious, but the magic started with main course. We both went for the "catch of the day" which was a mahi-mahi served on a carrot and white corn puree with roasted wild mushrooms, kale and fresh mint oil. I can frankly not remember ever being so happy with a main course. The flavors completed each other in a way that almost brought tears to my eyes. Perfect! My girlfriend had the same and was also very, very happy. For dessert we went for a caramelized banansplit and a rhubarb/apple/strawberrt cake. Both very nice, but it's the mahi-mahi that will go into my culinary history book. Our waiter was attentive, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the menu. We had a great evening!

Meal portions were excellent - finally had a meal where I could eat what was on the plate without sharing or having to leave food on my plate. Was also our first real serving of vegetables. Service was good and there was a choice in the menu for people who can't seafood. I can recommend the chicken.

Busy place with fish and meat menu, not really fish or semafoor restaurant, food is good in a predictable way, service OK ... Not a bad option when in the neighbourhood

I went there with 2 friends and we all really enjoyed our meals. I had the catch of the day which was a butterfish and the whole dish was well executed and very tasty. The prosecco we had was also very good. A very nice meal and would recommend.

Locals who enjoy Catch treated me to lunch. The portions were generous and everyone was happy with their choices. The service was very good. The place was fairly empty at the early lunch hour we chose so it was hard to get a sense of atmosphere, but we enjoyed the company and the food.

i stayed in the castro and visited Catch at least five of the eleven nights i was there. great bar and bartenders and Mike is a real winner! loved this guy!! the host and servers were terrific, friendly and warm and really always happy to see me. the food is good but stick with the seafood for sure. it's their specialty and the stew is awesome!!

The dinner I had there was delicious and had a great time people watching. A Sunday night, it was still busy! That's saying a lot of people enjoy the location and food. My server was friendly and attentive, and even the host checked in to see if I was enjoying my meal.

This restaurant was highly recommended by our friends and we decided to pay it a visit! The restaurant is nothing fancy but its definitely cozy! They had this strange location for a pianist/DJ Booth above the restaurant which was very nice! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable The food was exquisite!!! The fish dishes were prepared well and cooked to perfection! The Black Cod Dish is a must! We would definitely recommend this restaurant for the seafood lovers out there!

Food and service were very good. I had the spiced shrimp served paella style. Very tasty. French fries were served as a nest in an enormous pile. Also quite tasty and a perfect combination with the paella. My friend had the grilled seafood mix and he absolutely loved it.

A friendly atmosphere and delicious sea food where I could have made a meal on the appetizer alone - Mussels Sautéed with Chorizo, Harissa, Spicy Coconut Broth with toast. The Mediterranean fish (name escapes me) was served whole with a crispy skin surrounding moist white meat. Definitely worth the trip.

You will like the decor when you first enter the restaurant and you won't be disappointed in the food or the service Well worth the few extra dollars My waiter Tylor was outstanding

Catch is informal and welcoming, with both an enclosed patio in front and an interior dining room in the rear, along with a full bar. The menu, as you'd expect, is heavy on the fish choices, with a few meat and vegetarian choices too. Whatever else you order, get the crab cake beignets, which are like excellent crab cake in a crunchy, light coating. What is described on the menu as a mixed grill, is three nice pieces of different fish (it varies) over a wonderful, saucy bowl of butter beans, spinach and a tomato and chorizo based sauce that was wonderful. Mixed grill does not do it justice. The wine list is small, but has some interesting choices. Our dessert was a very generous portion of a very rich brownie, with a slightly too small scoop of ice cream--but that's a nit--it was great if you are a brownie fan. Service was excellent, attentive, without hovering, friendly, without being too familiar and very professional. In all, a great spot when in the Castro, or just looking for a good fish joint.

It had been a number of years since we dined here, and I am happy tor report that it is still a lively and popular neighborhood bistro. We were here for brunch and they have a great French brunch menu. The food was excellent, nice wine list, and the service friendly. Interior is pleasant with a tip to the neighborhood.

Of the 20 or so eating experiences we had in San Fran, this was sadly the poorest. Which is a shame as the staff were friendly and the food was 'ok'. The portions were small and overall, the higher prices turned this into an 'average' experience at best. Almost over attentive service, as plates were whipped away as the last mouthful was being consumed.

Catch was a delightful experience. Great food, great service and a lovely casual setting. We enjoyed dinner with 8 family members and were very pleased.

Was there with two colleagues. Starters and main dish, both very good. Wine by glass available cheaper than in down town with same good quality.

For reasons that fly in the face of logic and comprehension, they took literally the best things off their menu. Namely their lobster bisque and a pasta dish with lobster meat. Meanwhile they keep uninspired and boring dishes on their menu for years. Only go here for brunch now because their eggs Benedict is pretty good. Its a shame their dinner menu is so uninteresting these days because some of their staff are amazing people who are superb in their work and deserve a better managed restaurant: Catherine, the brunch staff, the cooks, the one bartender who doesn't ignore customers to chat at length with his friends, and the maĂźtre d'. We've known these people for years and miss being able to leave them the large tips they deserve.

The 6 of us went on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We were warmly greeted and got a great table. Cocktails were excellent. All of our food, including the appetizers were superb. This was the third time that I had dined there and all three times both the service and the cuisine were excellent. Oh and we parked almost in front of the restaurant !

We had an excellent lunch here recently. The restaurant is located on Market Street just down from Castro. The food was delicious and the service was great. It has a nice vibe and is located in an historic building that once housed Harvey Milk's camera shop and was also the first headquarters of the Names Project.

We did ended up here because an other restaurant we where planning to eat was full. What a luck! We did really love the ambiance and the vibe. Beside that the food was fresh and really good!

First time to eat here and enjoyed our fish dishes and the blend of their sides. I had the baby gem salad with sliced pears and butternut squash and blue cheese, and my main dish was the sea scallops and giant prawn...both grilled perfectly. My side was a very flavorful red and white quinotto (a "risotto" made with quinoa instead of rice) blended with butternut squash and spinach... it was a generous side with lots of flavor. My husband had the blackened cod served in a broth with udon noodles... well prepared and flavorful! The onion soup was okay (broth was nothing special) and a few of the pieces of chicken on the salad my daughter ordered were a little undercooked. NOTE: look on Groupon for a 40 to 50 percent offer for the Catch if you are looking for something new to try. I'd go back!

The seafood chowder, and all other food dishes at this place, was full of so much flavor. The restaurant has a wonderful, friendly and romantic vibe. Pricey, but well worth it as the plates are filling and the food is high quality. The waiter was one of the funniest I've had. This bar has the delightful energy of the Castro District and the romantic gravity that one looks for in a lovely Friday night dinner.

We enjoyed artfully arranged and deliciously fresh seafood at this Castro/Market area restaurant. The scallops, halibut, and seafood stew were all wonderful!

One of the best restaurants we have been in San Francisco!! excellent service and nice atmosphere for diner!

This place focuses on seafood, but it's a good all-around menu. It has a busy atmosphere without being obtrusive. We've been back several times and have always been pleased.

We went to dinner in this bistro on a Saturday night. It was not full and we were well served. The Mood is beautiful and well decorated. The cassoulete was delicious. Everything was great.

While visiting San Francisco recently, I was treated to a late-ish Friday night meal at Catch, at the recommendation of a friend who lives in the city. I had had a late lunch so I opted for a delicious seafood chowder and salad. One friend had short ribs, another, the featured fish special and we shared the bread pudding dessert. Accompanied by a soothing Malbec, the meals were superbly prepared and presented, and the staff were very attentive. Reservations are recommended.

We came here for a low-key dinner and the place delivered. Friendly service, affordable wine menu, great fresh seafood. Our recommendations include the tuna tempura roll, seafood cioppino, and the strawberry panna cotta.

Nice setting to make you comfortable with an enjoyable meal. Have dined here with only a single guest as well as being a party of 10 and never disappointed with food or service.

Catch is a small restaurant that specializes in fresh seafood. And it shows. Get there early or at an off time as it gets crowded at major meal times. The atmosphere is close (somewhat tight, due to its popularity and friendly staff. You'll see lots of seafood coming out of the visible kitchen and lots of happy eaters.

Wonderful evening out with close friendsâŠgrilled artichokes, tuna tartare followed by arugula salad with a grilled salmon. I love the fact the menu changes with dishes that are fresh for the seasons.âŠ.. We had several amazing deserts all while receiving attentive service and great neighborhood atmosphereâŠ.all enjoyed and we of course will be back very soon.

Overall, quite a good spot for dinner or brunch. For dinner, the lobster pasta is not to be missed. For brunch, I quite enjoyed the crab sandwich. Service is good - albeit better at night.

The service is great, the food is dependably delicious, and the atmosphere is comfortable and charming - what else do you need? Our favorite spot is the front room with a view onto Market St. and a circular gas fireplace in the center. The main room next to the bar is also very popular, especially when the live pianist begins to perform. My favorite is the short ribs, which are always fall-apart tender, served with mashed potatoes and a fresh vegetable, like spinach. Some reviewers think it's overpriced, but we do not share that opinion. It often appears on Groupon for a great credit offer.

Nice atmosphere, good service and superb food! Shared oysters and scallops to start (excellent) and 3 types of fish-all delicious and well presented. Managed to squeeze in a dessert too-prices reasonable for the quality-highly recommended!

We were a party of seven for dinner on Sunday night. We ordered several appetizers to share, most of which were quite goo, in particular the calamari, roasted artichokes, and ahi tuna tartare. The garlic Parmesan cheese fries were not so special. The arugula and pear salad with pomegranate was very salty and simultaneously very sweet, an odd combination. The entrees were where things fell very flat. My mussels with chorizo came in a overpoweringly sweet cream sauce, which was totally unexpected. The halibut crab risotto was very sweet as well, and the steak was served in a sweet steak sauce. The kitchen obviously believes in using sugar liberally, but it makes for a terrible dining experience.

Here on business/short vacation. Selected Catch to try a new place in a part of town we rarely visit. Good experience, and terrific, engaging staff. Arrived early and sat at the bar, had a great vsit with the bartender. Table opened up right on time. Sat in the front patio, with a fire in the pit. Get it if you want a little different feel to your experience. Good menu choices. We both opted for seafood, my wife the striped bass and I had the mixed seafood grill, with kale and green beans. Each of us were very pleased with the food. Wait staff was excellemt. Try it for a little "different" feel for SFO dining.

We have enjoyed coming to Catch through the years many, many times for all different occasions. This was our spot to bring friends visiting us from all over! Tonight we had the unfortunate experience of having the owner Sanjay as a host. Sanjay was very rude to our group tonight. He tried seating us inside at a dark table because he claimed he couldnât seat us out in the patioâŠhe didnât think we would fit comfortably. When we told him we had sat there before just fine, he appeared to get upset and proceeded to take us to our requested seating area. Once seated, he was clearly still annoyed and he made a comment about us not being able to fit comfortably, again. There was plenty of space for our small group and I let him know that. Sanjay then continued to make snarky comments to us in front of other customers. We were shocked! The owner made us feel so uncomfortable and awkwardâŠand for what? As he walked away, other patrons looked at us with shock in thei r eyes too. After this encounter, we ordered appetizers and decided that was all we would order, since we were having such a bad experience already. While we waited for our appetizers, I went to Yelp to express my experience, as it was happening. There was no lying or embellishing, just my honest experience. While we were leaving, Sanjay followed us out to the front of the restaurant and sarcastically saidâŠâThanks for the Yelp reviewâ He then told us we were not welcome there anymore. I asked, why? Because of my honest Yelp review?!? Anyway, this is terrible way to end an era of us and friends coming here for a great time. But there are sooooo many more welcoming places in the Castro!!! Itâs time to show them some love!!!

The Castro isn't known for fine dining but this is one of the best choices for those wanting something closer to high end dining. Seafood always the best option but generally excellent other choices, esp. pasta's & chicken dishes. Great bar! Long & stylish bar space that is ok to dine at, with a great cocktail list - the classics and modern spins on them also. Good bartenders with "Mixologist" attitude. Bit on the pricier side but some bargains to be had (fish n'chips, etc.). Wines a bit steeply marked up, imho, but a good deal is Tuesday evening dining where wines are 50% off. Not sure of corkage policy. Nice rooms - basically three area - bar, inside dining room, and patio area open to street. Haven't been there for brunch recently but I know it's always popular.

We were looking for a place for great food and Catch San Francisco was the answer! We made reservations via Open Table and got a table on a Friday night. The restaurant is located in the Castro, so it was no surprise that there it was mostly a male clientele. (The restrooms were co-ed too.) The short ribs and lobster risotto were amazing! We also had the chicken with a spice that gave it a bit of a kick. Although we were pretty full, we HAD to order the lemon blueberry cheesecake for dessert. Yummy! In a city of incredible food options, Catch San Francisco was amazing. We'll be back again!

I had three fanny bay oysters ($2.50 each) - very, very good, some of the best i have ever had. I had two glasses of Josh Cellars Chardonnay - which was ok (not great) $$7.50 and the Seafood Cioppino for $24 which was served with sourdough baggette topped with some kind of nice cheese and herbs and roasted... the cioppino was ok... traditional mussels, clams, salmon and the tiny shrimp (are they called bay shrimp?) - not the worst but by no means the best i've had.... fairly flavorless, i would not order it again. I sat at the bar, and although this is a fish restaurant the gentleman next to me had the chicken which looked awesome and he said was equally as tasty. I was there at 6, left by 7 pm and the restaurant was EMPTY - i think a sign it has gone downhill, not near the quality it used to be. I probably won't go back.

This is an institution and a great catch! The service is welcoming, friendly and unpretentious and the bar serves wonderfully mixed cocktails. But the highlight, besides the great location, is the food. Starters that will tease your appetite, main courses that capitalize on local seafood and fish but also cater to carnivores, and desserts that will make you melt away. You cannot miss Catch when thinking of dining out in SF.

I went with my partner for an evening meal. We sat in the covered terrace, nice setting but no music playing like the indoor section. Food was nice but not a lot of it. I had the linguine which was very nice and my partner had the fish "catch of the day". The fish could of done with a side of something like veg as not a great potion size. Bottle of red wine was $40 I think the cheapest red was around $34/$36 - I wasn't blown away and I've had better food elsewhere before! We had 8 oysters to start (between us), main dish each and a bottle of wine and cost around $155 to give you an idea of costs!

We met a couple of friends for an early dinner on the patio during "Pink Saturday". Everything we got was tasty and well prepared. We each got a different one of their specialty drinks and those were all perfect as well. The service was a bit on the slow side but given the day we were there, it was to be expected. Open table has this restaurant designated as being two dollar signs, but in reality it should be marked 3. The food was on par for what it cost, so it's not a complaint, just a little FYI.

The first impression was very good. The restaurant looks elegant and clean and we liked the outdoor seating area. Unfortunately, we did not like the food that much. Average quality and small portions and rather overpriced. We will not come back to this place.

A great place to enjoy good food and drinks. Be sure and make reservations at this popular restaurant in the Castro area. Start at the bar. The bartender makes great drinks. The menu is full of tempting dishes starting with seafood. I had lobster fettuccine that was delicious. You will be tempted with the dessert menu. It has a list of inventive choices.

Our first night in San Francisco we decided to try Catch as my wife and I where staying nearby. The food was delicious and very tasty. We had Calamari as a starter followed by Sea Bass with Crab risotto. Jump on the F-Line and stop at 16th Street and you will not be disappointed

Lovely location, right around Market and Castro. Very open floorplan, which means even when crowded, it's not loud and you can still have a great conversation. The food is amazing. Get the truffle fries as an appetizer. Spareribs are great, as well as the deserts.

Just landed in SF and a friend took me here for a quick bite. I ordered the Calamari apps and the Halibut entree. Both dishes were beautifully prepared and was equally delicious. We ended the meal with a caramelized banana split sundae. The service was excellent and very attentive.

This is a great restaurant and the meal we had was excellent. A very good menu and we were served by a lovely waiter who went out of the way to get a taxi for us by standing in the road to flag down a taxi. Highly recommended with fantastic food.

Catch is one of those neighborhood spots that is consistently good - from the craft cocktails to the actual food. I enjoyed their short ribs - which were insanely delicious. The perfect amount of garlic mashed potatoes, brussels sprouts, cipollini onions - and a chipotle cabernet sauce. I would go for this meal again in a heartbeat. It was a relatively early meal at 6 pm on a Thursday, so the restaurant was pretty quiet. The Calla Lily cocktail (gin, St. Germain, Cointreau, and elderflower foam) was perfect. Tart without being cloying. It's always fun to people watch from their front seating area - and always interesting to see a portion of the AIDS Quilt on the wall (celebrating the fact that the space was once home to The Names Project where the AIDS quilt originated).

I live in SF and I never understand how this place is seemingly full most of the time. It is expensive (even by our standards) uninspired mediocre food ?? I don't get it ?? I assume it is full of tourists and the location is keeping its doors open??? Absolute mystery... Ate there once and was so underwhelmed never occurred to me to go back. You will find me down at Super Duper ..... better food and way cheaper -

Our party (of three) had the special entree (sole), fettuccine with lobster, the soup and green salads, also the cobbler for dessert. Food was basically allright, nothing exceptional. The service was on the surly side. With so many great places to eat in SF, we wouldn't go out of our way to return here.

We made a reservation after searching the web for a great place to have fish and Catch was one of the top sea food restaurants listed in town. Service was kind but a bit slow. The upside of this place was that the fish was actually good, the downside was the watery pre-dinner cocktail and the glass of luke warm white wine. I would not go here again for a complete dinner experience as they lacked out on the small details.

Very good food. We had the risotto special. Fish was super fresh as expected in SF. Great ambiance and it was nice enough weather to be open to the street. We had a great meal with some old friends.

The food is brilliant, the service friendly and attentive, and the ambience lively. We had a most enjoyable evening.

Went walking in the Castro, highly recommended, and came back to our car hungry. We parked in front of Catch and decided to try it for lunch. They have part of the AIDS quilt hanging in their entry and a good menu. I love muscles so decided to try the muscles with sausage and fries in coconut soup. It sounds strange but it was one of the best entrees I have ever eaten. Fries soaked in coconut soup with sausage is amazing. No grease and tons of flavor. The seafood salad was also good but for an explosion try the muscles.

This restaurant had a few high points such as the service and the some of the appetizers but the main courses were not very enjoyable. The raw oysters, admittedly not in season, were no better than ok. The crab beignets were excellent as was the scallop soup and hearts of palm salad. Unfortunately, the striped bass, the butterfish and the monkfish main courses were uninspiring at best though the risotto accompanying each was absolutely excellent. At least the service was excellent.

If you want to treat yourself to a little more expensive meal in The Castro, this is a good place, lively atmosphere, high quality service, friendly staff, very good food and beverages. Nice for a long meal, don't expect quick and cheap, great for special occasions.

We arrived in SF after a 5 1/2 hour road trip from LA, the hotel was easy to find and there were little delays crossing the bay bridge to get to the Castro District, the first thing after checking in was to find a good restaurant through Trip Advisor, Catch came up with great reviews, I have to say that they delivered the Best food on our trip, great service, extremely tasty food and drinks. Dont waste your time anywhere else do what we did and go back every night.

We had a short stay in San Francisco Castro district, and needed a restaurant within walking distance for dinner. Catch was recommended for seafood and lived up to our expectations. The decor isn't fancy, but attractively done, with a well stocked bar as a backdrop. My Fish and Chips were the best I've had in recent memory and the seafood chowder was tasty and well seasoned. The service was prompt and friendly. It made for a very pleasant dinner.

This is a little pricey, but for a good dinner in the Castro area it was nice. The people watching at the bar made it a fun experience, and both service and food were good.

We enjoyed a quick meal at Catch the other night. The food was tasty and fairly price; good quality beer. Service was on point, with lots of waiting staff hustling around.

Had a marvelous dinner last night. Wanted some seafood and can't recall the last time I had cod. The dish was absolutely delicious! Cod in a miso base with bok choy and noddles. Service was great as well as the cocktails. Will definitely be back.

We ordered huevo rancheros and fish and chips along with Bloody Mary. All came out good. Personally love my Bloody Mary and fish n chips. Great location for a nice brunch on a sunny Saturday.

Catch French Bistro has replaced the former Catch seafood restaurant in San Franciscoâs colorful Castro neighborhood and has become a new favorite. Lunch, happy hour and dinner with an expanded menu of French classics and continental dishes. The happy hour menu has a nice variety of cocktails and snacks. They honor the former Catch by maintaining some classic dishes also. Currently also an amazingly affordable Pre Fixe option for all categories on the dinner menu. The staff is friendly and there is an indoor/outdoor protected patio with fireplace! Donât sleep on this one when in SF.

We started out with Beer Battered Crab Beignets and and Grilled Artichoke, there were four of us and we each had one of each.....just not enough, we should have ordered more and just made dinner out of them and call it a day. For my main course I had Lobster Fettuccine that was so enjoyable and the lobster was so tender and delicious, yum! Every single one of us at the table thoroughly enjoyed every bite of our meal and although we wanted to keep it all to our self, we did share with each other. The wait staff was superb and knowledgeable Catch certainly hires the best. We have to go back again very soon.

I enjoyed my meal at Catch. Both my appetizer and entrée were well prepared and presented. However, as I have read in previous reviews, the service was just way too rushed. We had barely been seated when the server wanted to take our order and, when we indicated we needed a bit of time, she was back 2 minutes later. The restaurant wasn't full so there was no reason to be so rushed. If they could slow down a bit and allow guests to relax, I think this would be a more enjoyable experience.

I seen this place advertised online and was put off as the photos didn't do this place justice. How I was wrong. This restaurant is stunning we sat out on the patio which is covered and has heaters. The place is beautiful and classy. We had the full three courses with wine. Food amazing and piping hot. The steak was the best we have had. Can't wait to come back next time we visit SF

Went there initially because it was close to my hotel, and it had good reviews. Went back as soon as I could (2 days later)! This place has the perfect combination of great staff and food. The tuna tartar / poke pair appetizer is about as good as I ever had. The oysters are superb (in particular, fanny bay and blue point). Dungeness crab salad is another star on the appetizer menu (it was in the specials, so may not be there when you get there). Cocktails are creative and very tasty. The wine list is broad enough for my liking, and the by the glass options make great company to the seafood items (I ate seafood, only, so canât comment on the chicken or the short ribs, but people at the table next to me had them and seemed to be very happy). Quiet atmosphere, and excellent staff. My waitress remembered my preferences from the previous visit (I had sampled all oysters and told her which I liked best), offered actually meaningful advice on the menu (rather than just âoh my god - excellent choice! Itâs my favorite!â, she actually said âBased on what you had so far, you might like this here, better!â). Quite a few 2-3 person tables up front, and about half a dozen 4-person tables further in. Bar (with seating) also had a good collection for those âliquid dessertsâ. Wholehearted recommend this gem in the Castro district of SF! Enjoy!

The title pretty much says it. Service was excellent, pleasant environment, and the cocktails were good. The food, however, was atrocious. I had shrimp scampi which was really awful. The pasta was quite overcooked, and it included perhaps four tiny shrimp about the size of a quarter. The sauce was a heavy cream sauce, and way too much, like a soup not a sauce and did not taste very good. The kicker came the next day when I got pretty sick. Hard to say definitively it was this meal, but it is the prime suspect.

Stopped here for dinner. It was delicious! The food was incredible. One thing we really liked was the service. Kathy took care of us and was so friendly. We asked her for, and she gave us great recommendations for Chinatown. All the locals know her by name and it is obvious that she is part of the reason they come here.

The service and meal were excellent at this seafood restaurant. Manager Ryan had to move us to accommodate a large group, and immediately said, âDessertâs on us.â Now thatâs class.

Beautiful interior design...The Atmosphere is a winner! Service is wonderful & prices are reasonable. The Salmon BLT was creative but the salmon was over cooked. The Fish Tacos were good...street view is niceâ

Great location within the Castro. The restaurant has a good bar with quirky cocktails. Our waiter was friendly and funny. Most of us had fish based mains and these were delicious; especially the special catch of the day. I am afraid I don't remember too much about the bill on account of the cocktails. A really good place for a group event with plenty of local bars to go onto after.

the atmosphere is pleasant, service was excellent and the food was delicious... There is also a piano player at certain times which adds to the pleasant atmosphere.

Catch certainly lived up to the hype! We were seated on the enclosed patio next to the fire. It was quite cozy and nice for out late night meal. The food was amazing and fresh with great flavor. The staff was very friendly and efficient. I was moved by the history of the building which is honored in the entry. We really enjoyed our visit and felt it was a great value! We will be back!

The food is consistently excellent, the staff is always terrific and amazingly attentive. The atmosphere is terrific and the place is large that it can accommodate you at any time. We love it when we can go there on a Tuesday because they have half price for any bottle of wine they offer. The cocktails are generous. Excellent in all respects.

My wife and I enjoyed a very nice dinner here last night. We started with fried green tomatoes with dungeness crab and a bowl of french onion soup. Both were great. We then shared one of the nightly specials which was grilled Alaskan halibut. The fish was fresh and tasty. We each had a glass of wine and we finished off the meal by sharing a decadent chocolate caramel souffle. The service was friendly and efficient. The space is comfortable and quiet enough so that you can carry on a conversation. We'll be back.

Just found this great restaurant with lovely food and a pianist! Really good menu, easy location and friendly.

Went for lunch with a friend. Overall, the food is very good and dependable with lots of seafood options (fish and shellfish) and some choices for non-seafood lovers, such as burgers and great fries. They also have a well stocked bar and the atmosphere is friendly and casual.

We always have cioppino when visiting San Francisco. Catch's version is very spicy, which we like. All the offerings we saw at other tables looked good.

We were two french family (8 persons) and we went two times in this restaurant during our trip in San Francisco If you want to change of the American food, is the good place to go. Very good customer service. Meals are great I taken mussel with chorizo and tombo tuna, delicious It's a little more expensive but it is worth

This restaurant was the last place that I visited before my flight from San Francisco. I must say that is a very decent place for an upscale dinner with a great view of what I believe to be one of the main streets and the Francisco traffic. I had the French Fries and shared some sautĂ©ed mussels for my starter and the Braised Rib for the main dish. The selections were pretty good. Personally, the Rib with being a thicker meat, it couldâve used a little more seasoning. However, my dishes were still good. Additionally, Catch also have a pretty decent wine selection. I loved the modern decor, look, and feel of the overall atmosphere. An added bonus was the seating next to the fireplace. I just loved the look. I would recommend it to seafood loving tourists.

We went there for dinner on the recommendation of our son who lives nearby. Everyone thought their food was very good. I had mixed seafood grill and grilled asparagus, and both were very good. Service was good and the prices were reasonable.

Great place! This is in the Market/Castro district so not in the very centre of town. It is well worth the journey though. The place was absolutely heaving and there were lots of locals which is usually a sign of good food. We weren't disappointed this was one of our best meal in San Francisco. The Napolean Dungeness Crab starter and Halibut main course was simply delicious. Great atmosphere, great quality food, great service - I guess you can't ask for much more. Would definitely return to this restaurant.

I've been here many times over the years and decided that this would be a great place to meet up with a friend that I hadn't seen in years. The service was excellent and the the appetizer as well s the main course were all delicious. Even after our meal was over we spend some time at the bar. The staff was closing up but we were not be rushed away,

Another dinner with close friends and spectacular attentive service by Cathleen....wonderful daily specials that NEVER disappoint...diverse menu with season fresh additions.... Crab Beignets, scallops with crab risotto and a brownie topped with pecan ice cream....not to mention wonderful wine and cocktails had by all....

Our server was helpful and attentive, but not hovering. The ambiance was very nice especially for a date night or dinner and conversation with friends as the noise level was low. The civiche app was excellent as were our entrees (halibut and salmon). Highly recommended!

known for their seafood which looked yummy as I spied dishes at other tables. I was in the mood for short ribs & parmesan mashed potatoes, roasted brussels sprouts demi-glace. Their french fries with parmesan , herbs and truffle oil a keeper with any dish. The short ribs were cooked to perfection and so we're the brussels sprouts. My server was so accommodating and efficient she helped make the dinning experience a good one . I look forward to trying more dishes on their menu and a brunch.

Colleagues and I went here upon recommendation of our concierge. As the name implies, it is primarily seafood. The service was solid, the neighborhood was full of energy and the overall experience was above average. The menu has plenty on it for seafood lovers, but outside of one chicken dish and an overpriced steak, there isn't much for those who don't indulge in fish. In my case, with a shellfish allergy, that left me to steak. Ordered medium rare, it was served medium-well. I'm not so picky that I would send it back, especially knowing that I'm in a seafood restaurant. Everyone enjoyed their dishes, but after the six of us had left, all of us felt that the food was only good, not great. Our team is out here at least monthly and give the wealth of options in this food lovers' city, we would not be likely to traipse back to Catch for a meal.

Catch is a good place for a brunch on a Sunday. The menu was very diverse and ALL 7 of us had a different menu item. At times we are a picky crowd, but everyone really enjoyed their dish. I actually had the salmon with orzo and corn and it was perfect! It wasnât too busy and it was fairy quiet. I definitely would return.

Very good food while visiting Polk Street in San Francisco. Great service and full bar. Friendly servers.

If you fancy the Castro district and like fresh fish, Catch is the place. Well served, well composed.

I loved that place. The food is very good and the negroni too and same for the service. Recommended in Castro

Great seafood, warm and excellent service, good cocktails and a community gem in the Castro. Place to become a regular, it always welcomes you back.

Catch⊠the bane of my existence since there is so much good food in San Francisco! I choose Catch because I was able to book a group reservation on Open Table fairly last minute. I wasnât fazed that Catch is a seafood restaurant because they have several menu items that arenât seafood. The location is perfect⊠Right off Market Street in the Castro. The dĂ©cor is pleasant and there was a live pianist playing. The servers were prompt and nice. However, the food is the downfall of Catch. The menu sounds good⊠but the food was mediocre at best. Catch seemed to try so hardâŠ. But wasnât able to deliver.

A gem in the Castro. Incredibly fresh fish and oysters. Best place in town for Sunday brunch. Great cocktail hour with a great bar bites and reduce ones and cocktails.

Two of us had dinner on December 6. We each started with a soup. My associate had the lobster bisque. He reported that it was average. I had the French Onion and it was excellent. We both ordered fish. He had the black cod and I had the salmon. Both were served hot and were very good. Service was friendly and professional. This restaurant is highly recommended and we will return.

Extraordinary restaurant, excellent customer service, delicious meals in a very good location A+++++

We went here for dinner recently with other couples. We started with the ceviche, which was large enough to be a main course, and the mussels. The ceviche was excellent. The mussels with chorizo were okay, not great, and we would skip them next time, as the broth was thick and creamy and a bit spicy, with small mussels. The black cod main on a risotto base was perfect, though the halibut special with potatoes was on the small side. The 2015 Calera pinot noir was excellent, as was the Henri Bourgeois sancerre. Service was mixed; we had to wait on our server for the orders and the wine. The portions are large enough that an appetizer and main per person is too much food.

One always gets a little suspicious when the food comes in really fast, as if it was waiting on a counter somewhere. But not to worry here. My lobster pasta was delicious, and Joelâs salmon just as great. It is definitely worth a try when in the Castro district.

This restaurant came recommended by our Castro walking tour guide and it lived up to it! Incredible fried green tomato and crab appetizer. Wife had the Seafood Mix Grill which had fresh fish and scallops over risotto. I had the Braised Short Ribs with parmesan mashed potatoes. It was all amazing! Hope to return some day!

From start to finish we greatly enjoyed this meal. Our server Tylor, as we later learned Barry Tylor Moore-Honey, knows customer service. The atmosphere was comfortable and non-assuming. We started off with the Mussels sautéed with chorizo, harissa (a Maghrebian hot Chili pepper paste), and spicy coconut broth, it was an interesting and delightful combination. For our main meals we shared the braised short ribs and the sea bass. The delicious short ribs were boneless and served with perfectly prepared wild mushroom risotto, kale and a swirl of chipotle jus. The evening's special was the grilled sea bass (a little overcooked) with braised fennel, cauliflower puree and port reduction. We somehow had room for a very delicious chocolate and vanilla crÚme brulee with a great tasting coffee. To top it all off, the background music was the wonderful tones of a live pianist. If your not from the neighborhood, parking may be a task. However, the friendly and precise service and the combination of flavors was a splendid Catch of the evening!

First let it be said the fish was good. Halibut on a carrot puree with fried brussels sprouts and mint dressing was delicious. As was the garlic mash on the side. However that cost $33 - not cheap. With that in mind, the real problem was that the service was fast - very fast. We had been served, eaten and had the bill delivered to the table in under 45 minutes. And that includes a glass of wine and a dessert each. That kind of speed may be ok for lunch service, or in a low-cost diner where the tables have to be turned. But when I am paying over $100 on dinner for two, the service should allow us to relax and enjoy the meal and the ambience a little. Furthermore, in a decent restaurant, which this really could be, staff should not simply deliver a bill to the table as they collect the dessert dishes. What about coffee, or a liqueur? It simply seemed like an instruction to hand over our money and get out of there. As a comparison, we had roast chicken at Zuni down the road - it cost less, tasted better and the service was relaxed, attentive and immaculate. Just get the service to match the prices of the restaurant, and Catch could be a destination. As it is - probably one to let slip through the net.

Trendy decor but nice intimate setting. Food is always well done. I have gone there many times. Great wine choices as well.

Good selection of fish and seafood in the beating heart of the Castro. It can get atmospheric at peak times, when it is worth making sure you have a table where you can hear your friends.

My friend Ash recommended this place. The restaurant is located on the Castro neighborhood. The setting is nice and very easy to get there by public transportation. The service was fast but efficient. My nephew got the ribs and I got the a fish dish. The food took 15 minutes the most. It was great because I was kind of hungry. The fish was fresh and very flavorful. Also my nephew liked his dish. The ribs were well prepared and tender. Also the wine selection was decent.

The menu for Catch is very deceptive. It describes these wonderful ingredients and cuts of meat/fish, but the recipes fall very, very short. For the price of the entree and drinks, I was very disappointed. For the appetizer portion of our meal, I chose the crab cakes. They were ok, but not horrible. My husband tried the tuna flatbread and it was so bad that he sent it back to the kitchen. It was really gross. The flavors did not blend and the tuna was awful. I ordered the halibut for my entree and my husband ordered the scallops. The fish was lack-luster and way over-priced for the dish. The scallops were mediocre at best. We played it safe for dessert and ordered the chocolate lava cake with ice cream. It was good, but did not make up for the previous dishes. I will not be recommending this place to friends, nor will I be returning.

We visited Catch after the owner of our Bed and Breakfast recommended it, so glad we did. The food was delicious and the staff were lovely. They offered us advice about which wine to choose and taste before we decided (it was Tuesday so 50% off all wines so even better) We really had a lovely evening.

The food and ambiance here are delightful!! It is a lovely spot to sit in the front section that opens up onto the street and people watch!! The Salmon BLT on the lunch menu is TO DIE FOR!!! I was visiting form New Orleans and went back every day!!!! Highly recommend!!!

Had a wonderful dinner at Catch. The risotto with shrimp was creamy and delicious. I was with 3 others and we were all delighted with the meal and service.

The service and food was great but be aware that the owner may try to deny your groupon voucher. I presented my voucher and he attempted to not honor my groupon coupon.

It was quite enjoyable. Has a bit of a club feel to it. Food was good as was the service. Conveniently located off the Castro area.

We celebrated a friends birthday at Catch yesterday. We knew it would be a good time because of the service and their food. We particularly like to send accolades to Augustine, our server. He made sure everything was perfect. Thank you, Augustine! PS. The crabcake Benedict and the fish ân chips were amazing!

Very fine place, and food super good. Itâs everything served very nicely. Well done guys!! We will come back early!!

I give very few 5 Star reviews. Catch is worthy. The food is imaginative, fresh and delicious. In a group of six foodies we loved it all, everything. That's crazy great. The drinks were great. The piano player was great. The noise level was great. The service was great. I was in San Fran for three days. This was my favorite restaurant out of many great restaurants. It really is a must.

Interesting menu, excellent cuisine and beautifully and attentively served although we were in quite a large group.

As a resident of San Francisco, I have been to this restaurant many times and have never had a bad experience. The atmosphere is great as is the service. The menu is varied but with an emphasis on seafood. The food consistently very good. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We went on a Friday night and the place was busy, great atmosphere and a mixed local crowd and also people celebrating. The host was great, we were not keen on our first table as it was close to the window and it was the time of year that SF gets cold in the evening, any other time it would have been perfect. Of course the menu is very seafood orientated but with a few meat and veggie options. We had the scallops and the lobster tacos to start, both arrived promptly and looked beautiful on the plate. Tucked in and they tasted even better, cannot say enough about the scallops, perfectly cooked. We then went onto the mixed grill and the black miso cod, rarely have I had cod cooked so well, a real triumph! Both sat on vet different risottoâs, both were so creamy and worked well with their respective dishes. Warning, you are given heathy size main courses for Europeans, only have a starter if you have the appetite. We went on believe it or not to have a dessert between us only because they looked so good and it would be a shame to miss out. We had the salted caramel soufflĂ© - wow, rich luscious and definitely for sharing. We only had sparking water and the bill came out at $60 a head which for the quality and location was worth it. I would recommend this place in a heart beat, the only thing they need to improve on is the detail in the service. Missing cutlery, we had to ask twice for bread, super fast which is not always a good thing, but most importantly the food was put on the table by the bus boy and no explanation of the food, so with the mixed grill we had to grab another waiter to be told what the fish was. Go you will enjoy it.

this building in the Castro district is where the AIDS quilt originally hung. We arrived at 5:30 PM on a Saturday, opening time, and were seated right away. The place has a nice, quiet, comfortable feel, and it looks popular among the locals who have money and enjoy quality food in a semi-casual setting. We had the mussels in harissa sauce appetizer which was excellent - the chorizo gave it a faint heat but just added to the flavor. My husband had the grilled prawns and scallops which was very good, and I had one of the weekly specials, seared tombo tuna over risotto. I was not impressed by the treatment of the tuna, a bit bland, but the risotto was quite enjoyable. We will definitely come back to try more!

Highly Recommended! We found Catch on Easter Sunday during a three day visit to San Francisco. Having arrived on Good Friday from London we hadn't planned particularly well for Friday evening and crammed too much into our day on Saturday to find a top notch restaurant. Thankfully we found one on Sunday. We spent the late afternoon in Castro and had time to do our research. This place lived up to the great reviews given on TripAdvisor. We were a party of three and used the TripAdvisor app to book a place. We all enjoyed our meals, I opted for the Chowder (amazingly good!) and Fettuccine Lobster. The setting is subtly lit and we were given the option of dining in the main restaurant or in the covered patio. We opted for indoors as although heaters were provided we wanted to be guaranteed warm. Our server was lovely and very helpful. My only observation was that service was a little rushed for no apparent reason, there was virtually no gap between courses and plates were cleared the moment a knife and folk went down. This would not put me off recommending this restaurant to anyone though, the food was amazing, and at a very reasonable price. A good choice of wines complimented the available food.

Not sure what I've missed here, but this place is surely overrated. Looking at the people who were eating here, it also looked like more a place to be than a place to eat good. Don't get me wrong, the fish and pasta was good, but far from "excellent" or "best of...". Also, dinning is not really fine dinning, as the tables are simple to close to each other and I wouldn't call sitting on wood chairs and tables the "art of dinning". Another thing that bothers me is that you are being charged 1.75/person for a "health care" charge. No idea why or any explanation. Not sure what this is, but it looks like the guest is paying for the health care of the staff. Furthermore, this place is expensive. Dirty Martini for 14.50 is quite a rip-off. But I guess people go here to be seen...

Arrived just at opening time but still to early for dinner , so we decided to have some happy hour wine. The bartender Andy is very sociable and friendly . But when a couple came in that Andy knew , they also ordered the same wine but were given much larger wine glasses. So i gather if you go to Catch for Happy Hour , you are given a much smaller glass ( rip off ) but if you know the bartender you are given a large glass . This was done right in front of us ....this double standard restaurants use is nothing more then a money grab , it saves the customer NOTHING . The host was very friendly and seated us right away near the fire pit . The warmth felt good . But the Short Ribs fell "short" was barely warm . Why is there no ribs in shortribs anymore?? It was filling but just so so. My partner had the Cioppino which was just ok as well. The broth tasted very fishy and not the tomato based broth that usually comes with the dish. The fish overpowered the entire dish , and should have been the flavor of crab . The service was good and fast actually . If i return it will be for happy hour for appetizers and starters and skip the wine .

Arrived for our reservation at 6:30. The host was very friendly and took us to our table immediately. Our waiter was similarly friendly and efficient. He knew the preparations and was helpful with our selections. The tartare was great and the portion was generous. Our fish entrees were also very good. Three of us shared the mixed grill and the striped bass with a crab risotto. Plenty of food. This is a lively place with a casual atmosphere.

Very good and fresh food. Nice beer- buttered fish, salmon with a very tasty corn risotto. Excellent profiterolle. We can warmly recomend this Restaurant .

This restaurant has a mid week 50% off offer on wine - we ate on a Tuesday and had wonderful food and great wine - all with 50% off - would definitely recommend - if only for the wine!!

We were after some great seafood and we found it! The staff were awesome! The food was amazing! And the location and atmosphere was perfect! Thoroughly recommend to anyone! We shared with the Crab Beignets, Ahi Tuna Tartare and Calamari to start, which were all really tasty! Plus my partner ordered the Seafood Chowder which was also amazing! For mains, we ordered the Mixed Grill of Fish, Seafood Cioppino and the Lobster Fettuccine - absolutely no complaint, nor anything left on any of the plates. We ate too much and enjoyed every bite! Yum! I will definitely be back if ever in San Francisco again!

You must try branding fish dish . This the best preparation we have ever eaten, moist, with herbs and olive oil inside served with root vegetables. Beautiful fireplace if from dining room and Tylor as a waiter is the best.A great guide to the best menu items. Don't miss this great restaurant. Going back again before we leave San Francisco

I very rarely ever right reviews as life is too short but if you are planning on eating here then caveat emptor. Normally service in restaurants in the US is far better than the UK, and I travel frequently, but sadly this was not the case in our recent experience at Catch. My wife had just finished her starter but whilst I still eating mine the main dishes were brought out to our table. I asked them to go back to the kitchen as we were clearly not ready but as soon as I finished my last mouthful of starter the main dishes were put on our table at the same time as removing my starter plate. My main course of seafood trio was grossly undercooked with seared fish on the outside but raw uncooked cold fish in the middle. This was acknowledged by our waiter who sent it back to the kitchen. My wife had then finished her mains and it had been cleared away before my main course arrived with an apology and reduction off the bill. On declining deserts our bill was provided without request, whilst we were still drinking our wine, and then we were asked within 5 minutes if we had yet paid despite our wine glasses not even being empty. The whole meal felt rushed from start to finish, despite plenty of empty tables and no queue, and took under an hour from arrival to leaving. In summary it was mediocre overpriced food, cooked badly with woeful service and I hope they are able to reflect on ways to improve any future diners experience but I would not go back.

I love the seafood chowder, the catch of the day was seabass and didn't sit well with me. Bread was warm and fresh. I've been here a few times and it just average.

I loved this place, it was a great . The atmosphere was great & interesting have used coupons also for special occasions, the food was excellent, have been there a few times for birthdays.

This is our first time eating here. The ambiance is very cozy. We were seated by the fire, which made for a nice romantic dinner. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I had the Wild salmon and my boyfriend had the Seafood Cioppino. We had the limoncello sherbet to too it off. We will go back!! Excellent place it's a must visit!!!

Excellent food and service. Would have preferred more comfortable chairs. We had fresh fish, pasta and short ribs without any complaints.

An upscale dining venue, I thought, but not over the top. The servings are not huge by any means, but for me just right. Great service. One thing I don't like personally, and it is just a pet peeve , is that they do not serve an American brand of beer. But then they are probably known for their wine selection, and great martinis.

Well you cannot beat fresh seafood, and Catch is a great place, a little bit off the path, but worth a visit. On the expensive side but the food was excellent and the service fast and efficiant.

This is a gem in the Castro area of Market St. The quality of the menu offered is very consistent with fresh delicious food. The portions are quite enough and the service always very pleasant. I particularly like the seating in the front area next to the fireplace. Sea food at its best.

Great service and good food at this restaurant near the Castro in San Francisco. Great location near Muni line. Itâs pretty pricey especially once they start putting on healthcare surcharges etc. but the food was good the service was good. I loved my short ribs. I definitely recommend this place.

Delicious! Fresh seafood, scrumptious artichoke appetizer, perfectly-chilled cava. A delightful evening.

This cozy restaurant has an enclosed porch (with heaters) or an inside dining room to enjoy a well prepared, flavorful meal. My tuna poke appetizer was generous and prepared with avocado and served with crispy pita chips. My main course of scallops and shrimp over a tasty risotto blended with broccoli rabe, scallions, and lemon sauce. Really enjoyed the full flavored risotto and the perfectly pan seared scallops and jumbo shrimp. Of course, I ate too much of the warm Italian bread served with drinks so no way to try dessert. Attentive and friendly wait staff. Definitely will be back!

ate here recently and loved it. The halibut was superb. my striped bass was incredibly good. Salads were also beautifully prepared and presented. Service is friendly and professional. Prices are somewhat high but hey.... you get what you pay for! Ambience is excellent and noise level is low. We loved it and will be back.

This spot in the Castro area is well worth a visit. I can't recommend the crab bisque. It was made the traditional bisque way, but ai generally like my bisque spicier. The seafood paella was the most expensive item on the dinner menu (the specials on a separate menu are more expensive), but worth the $30. It's a large meal with just the right amount of spice! Bravo! My wife raved about the short rib. Everyone in our party of six loved their meals.

Party of 7...staff very good. Food and wine were excellent. Atmosphere is fun. I highly recommend Catch in The Castro on your next trip to San Francisco. The Blue Point Oysters were excellent. Pork Belly with clams in a ginger broth Outstanding!

The appetizers and entrees were wonderful. We had the beer battered crab beignets and both artichoke appetizers. Wonderful flavors. The three entrees were just as good. Both risottos and the cioppino. Tasted every dish and the 3 of us were very happy with the food. We did not order dessert, hence we were too full. The service was friendly and efficient. There was a lot of chatter, which did not bother us. We will return.

Family of 5, including 3 teens - everyone found seafood, meat or vegetarian options to keep them happy - good SF beer selection and funky decor. Little bit out of the way but nice to get away from wharf.

Restaurant is nice and trendy though a bit noisy. Fish was fresh and perfectly cooked and served. We had a great diner and would definitely come back once again.
Welcoming Staff, Quality Food in the Castro
When we walked in the door we were greeted cordially by Todd Sterud, the manager. My dinner companion and I differed over where to sit, so he walked us around the options; we elected to sit by the fireplace...good choice, warm but not hot for an August evening. The menu is one page of well-chosen items; despite the obvious focus on seafood, there are accommodations for those who want beef, chicken or pasta. We passed on starters and soup/salad and cut directly to the entrees. Our server was well informed and helpful, hit spot on right balance between hovering and inattentive. The entrees combine items which might not normally go together but which worked: my friend had fettuccini, lobster, broccolini and cream sauce; I had salmon with roasted wild mushrooms, kale, carrot and white corn puree and fresh mint jus. Other items are similarly eclectic and work well. Wines were not extensive but offered multiple acceptable choices for each variety, mostly priced in the mid-range. Desserts are generous and after-dinner liqueurs are well chosen and mid-to-upper range, with a generous pour (almost double a usual restaurant pour). The owner is a long-time gay activist; a portion of the AIDS quilt is on display, as is a tribute to the late Harvey Milk. If you ask, Todd will relate the restaurant's history. A majority of the patronage is LGBT but they definitely wecome all and are "straight-friendly." Don't hesitate to try it if you are straight. Ambience is a bit on the noisy side but "people having a good time" noisy as opposed to "people shouting to be heard." I would definitely return.
