Good Pizza...odd experience

By Brian F |

After running around for several hours hunger struck as I came upon Celebre’s Pizzeria. It’s a fairly typical pizza shop, but when I asked for a “slice to go,” I got a bit pushback...questioning me ehy I didn’t want to eat the pizza on location. After “explaining” that I was “on the move,” my order was placed. Remember is was a “to go” order...so I was shocked when I was handed my pizza slice...ON A PAPER PLATE. No box...just a paper plate. No “to go” supplies, like napkins or a knife or fork. Despite all of this...they make good pizza!

Great “old style” pizzeria

By Chris M |

This is a great pizzeria that you can tell hasn’t changed in decades. It has the atmosphere you’d expect in an old pizzeria. You get generous portions when you choose any toppings. They offer some good Stromboli’s as well but you’re better off sampling the pizza. It’s a great pie for a decent price.

A GREAT PIZZA!

By PaulJ94 |

I have heard about this place for years and finally got the opportunity to go. The pizza was great! Not a heavy crust, which is the way I like it. The wait staff was friendly, even though the place was crowded. The next time I am in the area, I will return.

Horrible pizza and rude service

By navins888 |

Walked in for a quick after picking up pastries from a close-by store. Ordered a small pizza for me and the wife. The pizza was terribly salty. It was also greasier than what one would expect from a standard pizza. We complained to the waiter and someone who seem to be the owner/manager. The waiter suggested that it was the cheese, perhaps. The owner/manager simply shrugged her shoulders and said that "this was the first time she was ever hearing about it." Neither one offered to make amends. We left. No need for others hungry for pizza to ever come here. There are pizza parlor on every block, especially here in South Philly.

Grease...have better just down the block

By Laurel E |

I have no idea what the buzz is about with this place...I wanted pizza and it was soupy (from the grease). There was no queezy feeling afterwards, just bloat and extreme tiredness. Sure I'd return, if all the pizza places within 2 miles shut down.

Tasty Floppy Pizza

By JWhyJ |

We were happy to get a large specialty pizza delivered to our hotel for less than twenty dollars. We love boardwalk style pizza that's thin but not crusty and full of flavor. Celebre's delivered exactly what we wanted. Although the white sauce was tasty we were really hoping for the standard tomato sauce which they also offer. I recommend checking the sauce that comes with the pizza first but guarantee you won't be disappointed with either.

As South philly as it gets!

By David P |

This is an absolute South Philly must try. Just by walking inside you can tell it’s been around for decades. No need to eat next-door at Chickies and Pete’s; come here instead and enjoy the freshly baked pizza. The environment inside leaves a lot to be desired and it doesn’t fit probably more than 50 people but the pizza is definitely worth it. It has a few TVs but it’s not really a sports watching restaurant. They don’t have a bar. They do serve beer, pizza, strombolis and sandwiches. Make sure you order the (pizzazz) pizza; it’s their speciality. For dessert, walk next door to world famous termini brothers bakery and get a fresh cannoli.

Probably the first pizza...

By Joe C |

Probably the first pizza I ever had and probably the best I've ever had.

Solid Pizzeria

By Artie Kay |

I’ve been coming here for years to avoid the usual stadium food choices prior to events. This is an old school, dependable South Philly eatery with affordable prices and all the standards. The place hasn’t changed much and they still sell ice cold bottled beer from their fridge. It’s hidden in plain sight.

Italian Pizza in one size

By happigolacky |

The place was not pack. The server was polite but gets down to business immediately. They only serve one size and found it reasonably price for that size. I ordered Sicilian and it was huge for me and my wife so we took home the rest. The meat is not so generous as well as the mozzarella cheese but I should say but it was rightly done. Crust is crispy and tomato sauce are appetizing. I may to try to come back if I am at the area.

Below average

By Bob C |

Large pie $13. Very floppy and flimsy. Average taste at best. Just found it to be disappointing as I was expecting it to be one of the better pizzas in South Philly. Will not go back here. City Pizza is better.

Slice on the way to the Phillies

By The_Gallagher_7 |

We stopped on walk to the stadium because I was so hungry. I grabbed two slices of pepperoni to go. They were fast! And it was delicious. Maybe I should go for a walk again today? Go Phillies.

Exactly what you want...

By Joshua P |

Want good Pizza at a good price? then this place does exactly what you expect. No frills except great food. Four of us had two of the large white pizzas (my first ever pizza without the tomato base) and they were tasty and satisfying. I'd been told repeatedly this was some of the best pizza in Philly and it did not leave me wanting at all. Hint: grab Cannolis from the bakery next door for afterwards!

Horrible experience

By Cathy B |

My husband, daughter, son-in-law and grandson, and myself went to Celebrese pizza on a Sunday afternoon in April. There were no other patrons in the restaurant. No one greeted us or came near us even though the pizza maker and waitress were standing right there. When they finally decided to acknowledge us the first thing they said was, we have no highchairs. No apology, just the facts. My grandson is 18 months old so we asked if they had a booster seat. We were informed they had a booster seat but no strap to buckle the child in with. We should have left right then and there as the attitude was they were bored with us. However we decided to order a pizza anyway. Took forever for the waitress to come and take our order. We finished your pizza and then waited forever for the check. I don't understand how they stay in business. They are very unfriendly and the pizza was good but not good enough that I would ever go back there to be treated like that.

A South Philly tradition

By 2Bige257 |

Not the best pizza ever had but certainly nowhere near the worst we've been coming here for years way back when the shopping center that they are located in used to be very busy Center, it's not the traditional style pizza... but it's pretty good I enjoy it.... we have good memories of the place, food is decent also disservice can get a little Hit or Miss at times

Great pizza place.

By AukMom |

My husband and his friends come here as part of their pre- Phillies game ritual. (Why don't they just eat at the game?? Whatever. ) Anyway, he raves about this place so on our way home from Philadelphia we stopped here. I was surprised. It's in a strip shopping center and is very good. Pizza was outstanding. Service good. Awesome bakery next door.

Amazing!

One of the best pizzas I've ever had!! Everything tasted so fresh! Crispy crust, just the right amount of grease and cheese, and no frills. Just good pizza!

Best Pizza We Have Found

By mikekauffman |

We lucked in Celebre's Pizza while attending a sporting event at the sports complex. It is very close to the stadiums and sports arenas and within walking distance. It is easily the best pizza we have ever had. I don't know if it is the cheese, the sauce, the dough, or a combination of all of the above.

Great Pizza

By axavilla |

We've been going to Celebre's for years and it never disappoints. The beer is COLD the Round Robin pizza is awesome and their sandwiches are delicious.

Our Second Visit Here

By Connie M |

We first ate here 30+ years ago when Celebre's was widely recognized as "the best pizza in Philly." We were massively unimpressed and never went back then we moved out to the 'burbs. We had lunch there last Saturday since we were in the area, it was cold, rainy and windy and it was the closest restaurant to our final destination. We made sure not to order pizza- we shared a pizza cheesesteak, a sausage, spinach, mozzarella sandwich and an order of curly fries. The meal was over-all mediocre. The good: the rolls were very fresh and tasty and the curly fries were excellent- a huge serving of perfectly cooked fries. The cheesesteak was just OK- it seemed a little skimpy on the fillings but what there was tasted good. The sausage sandwich was the big let-down- the sausage was a patty! And completely tasteless. We had been expecting some nice Italian sausage and what we got was thawed-out Jimmy Dean. My husband noticed that the soda was just poured from a can into the glass which he didn't like. Service was somewhat slow- especially since it was early and there were only 2 other customers in the place. All in all- not a "we have to go back" kind of place but not a "there is nothing on the planet that could get us to eat there again" place either. And we were totally stuffed when we left.

Really good white pizza

By Thero_Kenman |

Ordered a white pizza to go on the way out of town. It was cooked perfectly (lots of golden brown mozzarella on top). I would stop here again, if I was in the neighborhood.

Decent pizza

By clubnev |

We stopped here on the recommendation that this was the best pizza in South Philly. The pizza was fresh and hot, I liked that the tomato sauce was not over spiced, more Italian style with the taste of tomato. The toppings were skimpy and the mushrooms tasted and looked canned. We also had a caesar salad. They use dough squares for the crotons. They tasted nice but were thin and chewy, which made them hard to eat with the salad. I've had better pizza in Philly. I wouldn't call it bad; it's slightly better than average. It's nice for a quick stop or meal. The waitress told us they've been there for 50 years and you can see the place hasn't changed in 50 years. But they have some nice flat screen TV's. Overall, good for a quick bite or for take out. Pizza better than a franchise. I also liked that I didn't feel like I ate a gut bomb afterwards. So that tells me their pizza doesn't have a lot of hidden artificial stuff in it.

South Philly Gem

By Micker126 |

Tucked away in the shopping center off broad and on packer ave this is where the locals go for takeout and visitors come before games and shows to experience south Philly's best kept secret! Salads, south Philly steaks and hoagies but most tables have the pizza ! Not a big place they do serve beer and sodas but get there early on event days.!

Good pizza

By bluejeanfood |

Situated near the stadiums, this is a perfect spot to grab a nice bit to eat dining in or take out for tailgating parties. Pictured is the Spimato Pizza, a white pizza with spinach and plum tomatoes and seasoning. It was really good!

Pizza pretty good

By Trip117 |

We've had Celebre's pizza for years and years. It's not the greatest, but isn't bad at all. It's pretty good. It's a nice restaurant in a nice area with free parking. I like the old fashioned with the cheese on the bottom. Years ago this was the normal pie. I recommend them. You'll like them too.

A Family Favorite

By Zen Z |

The pizzeria style sit down and eat pizza is rare to find. This place has been here for years and deserves credit for longevity. I enjoy the unique Pizzaz pizza, white cheese sliced tomato and sliced hot peppers. And the regular pizza is light and airy and tasty. When the pizza is done right it is awesome {{but must admit sometimes they miss the mark as they are not consistent on baking it right}} Good Choice! @Neighborhood Pizza in Packer Park Philadelphia

Great Pizza....always.

By Bob K |

Great spot for pizza. Been coming here for years and never dissapointed. Always consistent. Prices are good so bring a big appetite. Come when there are no area events and you'll love it even more. It's a small place, but it has plenty of tables, so bring the family. If you want some great pie and a couple of beers, go here.

Hadn't been for years, still the best...

By Chris D |

Went here after attending a sporting event in the area. Used to go here years ago but hadn't been for some time. The place was exactly how I remember it. We had a few beers and ordered a tomato and American pie. Just as good now as it was before. Good pasta and pizza menu. Old world pizza at its best.

Pizza Pizza Pizza!

By biscotti13 |

I've been eating at Celebres since I was a child, some 40 odd years. The pizza was the same last night as it was then. You always know you will get a great pie with the best red sauce. There are very few pizza places where you can sit down and enjoy a meal and this is the best way to enjoy Celebres. You can get take out but don't. Something about hot delicious pizza in a cardboard box just ruins the crust. Go sit eat and enjoy!

Great pizza in South Philly

By megatti |

There are hundreds of pizza places in Philadelphia but Celebre's in South Philly is one of my favorites. It's conveniently located in a shopping center with its own parking lot which is nice when you want to run there for lunch during the workday. The staff is friendly and if you call ahead they'll have your pizza ready right when you get there which is also great for workday lunches. We only go there a few times a year since I try not to eat too many carbs, but the waitress always remembers us and if we don't call ahead, she remembers what we usually order as soon as we walk in. Yes, the reason she remembers our order is that we're hooked on the same thing every time. I'm a sucker for white pizza, and theirs is great. We get it with onions. It's not something I would've thought to order, but a friend suggested it one of the first times we went there and it's been our usual ever since. I've even driven into the city, and past about 1000 other pizza places, during the pandemic to grab one for takeout.

Family pizza close to the Wells Fargo

By Lawtwle |

Going to a 76 rs game so as this being down the road , its a great location! 4 adults and 3 kids. 1 large pizza , 2 calzones was plenty for all of us. Calzone were great the pizza was just ok and a little oily.

Tasty and Inexpensive.

Great tasting pizza and stromboli along with excellent service by Eric. My only wish would be that they would upgrade to thicker plates.

The Best Pizza in South Philadelphia

By Alan4949 |

I have been going to Celebre's Pizzeria for 48 years. My wife and I love their thin crust pizza. They offer so many toppings as well and they are delicious also. We went recently before a Phillies game and in the past they would be packed but with the Phillies playing so poorly this year we didn't have to wait. Plus their selections of the various beers are great also.

Great food makes up for the restaurant...

By Seabrookgal |

My mother was born and raised in South Philly. Celebre's Pizza has always been a stop when we're in the area. Yesterday, my brother and I stopped for lunch. The place hasn't changed in decades and there are some issues with the physical plant. But the food is great and worth the stop. My brother and I both ordered cheese-steak hoagies. They couldn't have been better. The rolls were perfect--not too hard, the meat was excellent (not a lot of fat or gristle) and the toppings very fresh. They provide dill pickle chips and hot peppers on the side. However, the sandwiches do not come with fries. Those are an extra side-order. We got lucky and were there when the Phillies were playing across the street. We had the place to ourselves. Our waitress was exceptional and she has been there for years. Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves. Now, for the restaurant itself. It is in a small strip mall with a small parking lot. When things are crowded, you might not find a place to park. The restaurant itself is also small. There are tables along one wall with booth seats on one side, and chairs on the other. If it's crowded, you'll feel like a sardine in a can with someone at the next table sitting inches from you. There are some round marble-topped tables through the rest of the place with wrought iron chairs. The chairs are rather low and hard to get out of. Also, the restrooms are in the basement. So if you're handicapped, you'll get in the restaurant just fine, but hope that you don't have to use the restrooms. In any case, the food is wonderful and although we didn't have pizza, many claim it is the best in Philadelphia. It is definitely a go-to stop when in South Philly.

Awesome Pizza For Everyone

By Roman's R |

I love Celebre's Pizza. I've been going there since around 1st Grade or something. I love there thin crusted pizza with delicious red sauce. I also enjoy their appietizers, like the monzerrella sticks, anf ries. I dislike the steak, but who cares. Gotta get a cold one, I had one with my mom mom. She loves Celebre's just as much as I do. Anyways eat and enjoy authentic Italian delicious food from your pals at Celebre's, and don't forget to take out please. ;3

Get The Pizzaz

By johnfizz |

One of the last remaining pizzeria's in South Philadelphia. You can grab a beer and a slice before the game. I suggest the Pizzaz...by far the best!

Pure greatness. The pizza is flawless. Best pizza in Philly, it's also great because it is out of the way.

My husband loves the pizza here, but only likes it when you eat it in. When we get it delivered, he says it is not the same. I am not big on Pizza, but it has been a staple there for years.
