I saw this place on DDD and had to stop. I travel quite a bit and try to eat local specialties, and things I've seen with high reviews on food shows. I had the arabes cemita and a chorizo taco, and they were spectacular. One of the reviewers said the sandwich was dry, but you had to add the sauce(s) that are on every table. The sauces are delicious but if I had one negative, I would add something spicier, I like heat, maybe a habanero sauce. I wish I could go back and try everything on the menu.

The prices are good, the food is delicious and yummy, and the service was friendly. I was in the area and visited from reading reviews. The service and staff were very friendly and had no problem explaining the menu to me. I only tried the veggie cemita from the recommendation – it's basically like a Mexican burger is the best way to put it. The avocado spread inside was delicious. I was tempted to order a second one. I was only passing through, so I didn't get a chance to try anything else on the menu. The restaurant atmosphere is also nice too. There are clearly some older pictures of the place online, and it looked totally different when I visited (I almost missed it walking by). I'm hoping to bring family back here for dinner. If you're in the area and craving something Mexican that isn't Tex-Mex, this is probably a good bet for you to visit.

We were in Logan Square to pick up a countertop and wondered which local gem we should eat lunch at...... And SO glad we stopped here! Despite no other diners at noon, this clean bright place was welcoming and the staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. We each had a Taco Arabe and loved it...... Great flavorful pork and a Spicy chipotle sauce which was delicious...... And we also split a Cemita Pollo - lots of pulled chicken, cheese and guac on a crispy roll....... The chips and salsa were a must and in the pleasant spicier side! Wish this joint wasn't so far out of my way - I'll be back!

Wow!! The journey hear was a bit scary because the streets of Chicago have a lot of stories to tell! We travel a lot for my husbands work and have been to Cemitas twice! Both times the food has been amazing! The Cemitas Atomica is absolutely PACKED with FOOD and flavor!!! Each bite was a WOW! Seriously my husband and I kept chewing and saying "Wow!" We shared the sandwich with a side of refried beans which allowed us to have room for desert! Thank God they were out of the Flan because that only left the Leches cake!! It was HANDS DOWN the BEST desert we have EVER ate!! We were there last in the middle of march (yes I am tardy in writing this review :( )...so it has been over 2 months and I STILL can taste the layers and layers of delightfulness!! So sweet and moist and uniquely a tad savory!! Call me a freak but it was more then a WOW with every bite!! The owner has been a real treat as well both times :) Can not wait to return!!!

In an area abound with high end and hip places, Cemitas Puebla was a fresh breath of fresh air. Cemitas are Mexican sandwiches and you can choose a variety of meats. Comes with a mountain of quesa fresca. It was perfect sitting on the patio with our cemita, ceviche, and jicama slaw - reminiscent of food truck style eats.

Quick, delicious, authentic food. Cemitas Puebla on North Ave is legit. Don't be scared off by the neighbor(hood), Humboldt Park is a bit rough around the edges, including the adjacent buildings. Nevertheless, the staff is terrific, very welcoming. For your first time, don't be shy and ask what you should order. They'll probably recommend a Cemita, I suggest you go with the pork or asada, and tacos arabes. Their Horchatas are gigantic, and definitely worth it. If you like spicy, you might be a bit disappointed, as none of the three salsas that accompany your order will burn your tongue.

I have heard only excellent things about this place and wanted to go here after my friends raved about it all the time. I was in town and when someone suggested it I could not say yes quick enough. I got the steak, my friend got the chicken, and we split it. Both were awesome. I have heard other sandwiches were good but I didnt try it, but I bet it will be good

Really didn't know what to expect when reading reviews online but was pleasantly surprised by the interior and the vibe the restaurant exuded. Our group ordered five sandwiches and all of them were so good.

We visited several restaurants in the Chicago area that were featured on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. While this place is definitely a "dive" in an interesting area, the food was simply amazing! Very flavorful, fresh and unique. The owner was super friendly, took some fun pictures with us and made us smile. Can't wait to go back!

Good Mexican in west loop market. Fast food atmosphere but sit down prices. Food is worth it, especially the roast pork. Comes in taco or sandwich venues.

Tried this amazing Sandwiches, from Puebla Mexico. They are delicious. It made me feel like I was back home.

After seeing this place on "Check Please" and "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives", I wanted to try it out. Their specialty is a sandwich which is similar to a torta but features MUCH better bread. The meat is well seasoned and guacamole is liberally spread on. It is very tasty and is a nice respite from the usual taqueria and is much less greasy. Try the homemade Chipotle sauce which is incredibly tasty. Even the horchata was better than most places. The staff was extremely friendly, quick and helpful. There is parking in the back so there should be no need to pay to park.

This restaurant is a family oriented place with friendly and prompt service. They have unique sandwiches that are similar to a Mexican torta, but a cemita is a slightly different sandwich that originated from Puebla. Everything made there is fresh. The bread is crisp and not found in any bakery. If you visit this restaurant and try their cemitas and tacos arabes, you will definitely enjoy the food. It has been reviewed by many well known television food networks. If you would like to know more, visit the youtube and type in the name of this establishment. You will see how fresh everything is made. I was impressed.

Always wanted to try a Cemita sandwich. A friend told us of this place. The food is cooked to order and very tasty. Had the carne asada and tried the roasted pork and onions. Great sauces that compliment the food. We are going back to try the other selections. Very reasonably priced. A great place to stop in for lunch. The placed has been reviewed and raved about by Diners, drive ins and dives, Hungry Hound, and others.

I decided to try the place for lunch after watching a review on Food Network (on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives). It is a plain, simple sandwich shop well off the beaten path. I had a pork sandwich (cemita) and a tacos arabe (mexican take on the gyro). I also enjoyed a mexican soft drink (pineapple soda) Food was simple but excellent; great flavor with or without the available chipotle sauce. Nice change on the usual sandwich. If I had one near my office, I'd definitely be a regular customer. Keep in mind, this is a sandwich shop so don't expect any atmosphere.

Omg...wonderful! Had the Cemita sandwich thing with steak. Wow...really delicious! So tasty... chips good too and nice staff.

As we walked into Cemitas Puebla, the owner greeted us and explained all of the "cemitas". If you don't know what something is, just ask and they will tell you. I asked what he recommended and he told me "Atomica". I just rolled with it and it was delicious. It has Milanesa, Carne Enchilada and Jamon (3 meats).

My dilema is that if your a restaurant that serves tacos n tortas(which thats what a cemita actually is, simply different bread) your sauces is what will differentiate yourself from the rest. I was not overwhelmed. They gave me three salsas........green, red, n chipotle. The green salsa was overpowering of cilantro. The red salsa tasted sour as if it was almost spoiled. And the chipotle salsa;which I guess the owner prides himself with, considering they sell it by the gallon, was in my opinion too hot with no flavor. I grew up eating spicy foods, so I can appreciate some spice as long the flavor is worth the heat.

I had been to the other location before and was so-so on the food. I stopped by this location after work and thought it was great. The place was trendy and clean, and the food was very tasty. I had one of the Cemita sandwiches (with steak) and it was really tasty. It's a bit pricey and the portion isn't huge (so as the neighborhood), but the ingredients and presentation were great.

First saw the episode on Diners Drive ins and Drives on Cemitas Puebla. Am in Chicago for my nieces graduation and had to find this place and check it out. Ten of us descended on the place for lunch today. Across our party we ordered a little of everything. I had my eye on the Arabes and it was spectacular - a hundred times better than a burger! Did I say I loved it??? Turns out we all enjoyed our meal and it was worth the journey to get here.

I really liked this place. When you walk in you see pictures of the celebrities and foodies. i.e. Guy Ferreri, Steve Dolinsky. The staff there welcomes you in and asks if its your first time there. They are ready to give suggestions for people that are unsure. I've tried 3 different kinds of cemitas which to me looks like a giant Mexican burger. My favorite kind is the carne asada (steak) All of the ingredients like the Oaxaca Cheese is authentic and not cheap and chewy like some other places. I also tried the tacos arabes which is Arab-Mexican style tacos. I will be coming to this place as long as I'm alive.

Ive been to Cemitas Puebla a number of times now. We have a lot of Mexican restaurants in Chicago. But truly this one stands out. Ive been alone and ive been with friends. Every experience was similar. It was never too crowded and was greeted immediately upon entering. Either by Antonio Sr. or Antonio jr.(Tony) the son. I wanted to try something different one time and their recommendation was spot on for my appetite. That was much appreciated. I enjoy a simple taco plate or a nice torta (Mexican sandwich). They have many variations of each. Its not the most fancy place in the world but that seems to be the benefit for a neighborhood and very friendly place to sit down and enjoy my meal. I noticed many regulars coming in and out while i ate. Every person seemed to greet the owner by his first name. I thought that was unique and personable. I'm a person who enjoys a good steak at a great steak house, but sometimes I just want to sit down and enjoy a good meal without any pomp & circumstance. This is just that spot for me. There was plenty of street parking and also parking in the rear. One more thing: I had a taste for a cup of coffee in the late afternoon. Which at most small restaurants like this, might be unheard of.. unless you work there maybe. Tony jr. right away deemed the coffee that they had "not fresh enough" and insisted on preparing a fresh cup for me. Well worth the effort from his service and well worth the extra 4 minute wait because of it. Great neighborhood meal. I will definitely be returning.

My cousin took me to this place because he knew how much I love Guy Fierri. I am originally from Toronto. Went there n got pollo sandwich. It's chicken sandwich. It was delicious. The side sauce was also delicious. I drank the sauce like that. Definitely would recommend this. I wish they had this place in Toronto as well! !!

My family and I ate here recently and were blown away. We are from Colorado and have traveled all over the USA south west and Mexico. The tacos here are by far just as good as anything authentic we have had. The service is quick and the place is clean. The margaritas are great and not too sugary. Even my kids loved it! I highly recommend the thinly sliced steak tacos and guac/chips. You definitely can't go wrong here and it won't break the bank.

We stopped in after a day in Chicago and after living in Cholula, right outside of Puebla, was expecting something that may have been a reminder of living in Mexico, but was disappointed. We had a chips and salsa appetizer and then the cemita jamon and chalupa carne asada. First the chips and salsa. Salsa is Pico de gallo salsa which is fine, however, there seemed to be no heat to the salsa. I did see some peppers among the tomatoes and onions, but did not seem to have that hot that you get. I understand that it is not to be on fire, but should have had some heat. The cemita may have been my doing as i wanted something different than the typical milanesa and went to try the jamon. I probably should have stayed with the milanesa. there was nothing special or tasty about the jamon. Its seems that there was some flavor missing as if there was no spice, or sauce to give it some flavor. The bread was basically a roll that was spread with a good portion of avacado. Overall, just a plain ham on roll with some avacado. I was looking to experience the same as what i had in Puebla MX. As for the chalupa, it was basically 5 tacos stacked on a plate and by the time we got to the bottom ones, the taco was falling apart as we lifted it due to the juice and moisture from the ones on top. we thought we would try this on a recommendation, however, I may give the milanesa a try, but truthfully, it did not give me that "lets stop in again someday" feeling. Sorry guys...just ended up being an ok place.

Popped in for a pick up/to go meal but the food was fantastic!! The choice of meats was great for the Cemitas. I chose the carne asada and it was great. Need to go back and have some more of eveything...

I love a good taqueria, and when I read about this on Diners, drive in's and dives, I had to try it. I tried the recommended the Milanesa torta and it rocked. The sauce, the pork - everything. The tacos orientales were awesome too. I think I want to go back asap to try the rest of the menu. Great!

Two words one does not normally find in one description are Fast Food and Gourmet however Cemital Puebla has accomplished this feat. I had the Chalupas with steak. The steak was to perfection, the salsa was a complement not overpowering. The guacamole is fresh alongside the home made chips. The value is exceptional I would have paid more this quality. There were six in our party and no one had a complaint. This location is small with limited seating but seems to be doing a great takeout business.

I went here awhile ago, but I couldn't find my pictures until recently this was an awesome place to have authentic cemitas.

Yet another one of our Chicago stops based on when we saw on DDD. The place is small, like a take-out pizza/sub-shop with seating for 20 or so people. As a part of 6, we tried a variety of things and especially liked the Cemitas Al Pastor and the Carne Asada. The owner was super-friendly, and even sat with us during a lull when he found out we were from the Bosdton area.

Great delicious food which we order often for lunch with delivery to our office. I highly recommend it.

We had a lovely lunch here. The location in Fulton Market was nice, quiet and cozy. The food was a great price and terrific quality. We all had version of cemitas chicken and pork. Simple decor but great place to dine.

We loved the Atomica! Huge sandwich - great to split! We ate at the Fulton Market location. The three sauces provided to enjoy with our sandwich were excellent. We liked the spiciest of the three. Loved this place! If you want to go to a location other than Fulton Market, make sure it is still there. It may have closed.

My husband, son and I visited Cemitas Puebla this past weekend due to a friend's recommendation (whom had tried it after seeing it on Check Please). I'd say the food was good and authentic, but not out of this world. I do live near Pilsen and would probably recommend those places above this one. The chalupas were very good (its all about the sauce) and the Cemita Sandwiches were delicious and unlike any Torta I've ever had. I will likely stop there if I were in the neighborhood. It is a bit adventerous area, so make your visit during daylight.

We decided to try this place after watching it on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. It's pretty much a mom & pop sandwich shop. It's a no frills with great food. The place is not very large. It can probably seat about 30-40 people but most people are in and out relatively quickly. It's located on a main road in a not-so-glamorous area. There is parking directly on the street in front or you can drive into a nearby neighbourhood to park there. When we first entered, we were greeted by the owner who asked if we saw their restaurant on the show. He made a little speech introducing us to what a cemita is and what they have to offer. This was kinda nice. We ordered 2 Cemita sandwiches and 2 tacos. The Cemitas were large and very flavourful. Ours had porkchops, avocado, chipotle pepper, and Oaxacan cheese. I did find the meet slightly overgrilled but it wasn't a big deal because it still tasted great. However, the tacos were absolutely delicious. It tasted incredibly authentic, similar to some of the tacos we had in Costa Rica. The meat itself is very good, but nothing out of the ordinary I found. What made it taste great was the taco bread that they used. They used some sort of tortilla bread that just made it taste amazing. We also orderd a very yummy cantelope juice. It was new to use and well worth ordering. I'd definitely come here again the next time I'm in Chicago. Next time though, I will be ordering a lot more than 2 tacos.

We had seen this place on DDD. The Arabe sandwich was the "hook". Spit cooked pork and onions. Also available on tacos. Great sandwich. The al pastor tacos rocked. Absolutely worth the trip. thjey also have a 2nd location near the Fulton St Market (817). Dangerous donut store next door @ Fulton St location--Glazed and Infused. Oh, well, then, there's dessert covered.

I go here regularly for tacos, Cemitas and salads. Excellent flavors and salsas...I’m never disappointed! Good for a quick meal or take out.

You really have to have a huge apetite to eat here.

The Cemita Atomica is a king among sandwiches and a must try for any sandwich lover. With three kinds of meat (grilled steak, fried pork chop and grilled ham) it's a tasty and filling lunch. The bread on the sandwich (for which the restaurant is named) is legendary with Chicago foodies. It is crispy and firm and easily supports the colosal sandwich it enshrines. So much better than any other Mexican sandwich I have had in Chicago! The tacos are good as well, especially the tacos Areba's which is basically an El Pastor taco with a homemade Mexican barbecue sauce. What makes the tacos unique is the flour tortilla they are served on. I prefer a more traditional corn tortilla but I do like the chewy texture they add to the taco. They are similar to (but not as good as) the flour tortillas at Nueva Leon. Cemitas Pueblas is a small family run sandwich shop, low on atmosphere yet serving one of the best Mexican sandwiches I have ever eaten!

Ordered take out from them and it sucked! Extremely poor service. Order got completely messed up. Missing items and 13 dollar salads with absolutely NO MEAT in them even though the salads are literally called Carne Asada Salads and meat is listed in the ingredients. When I called they said they were closing so could not do anything about it and even tried to blame the delivery person ! Insinuating they took the missing meat and items !!!! Since I insisted something needed to be done the woman on the phone said she could not do anything at the moment so to wait for her call once she looked into it NEXT DAY! and that she was certain it was not their mistake. Called me next day just to waste my time saying that I'd have to deal with the delivery company because they do not assume responsibility for items going wrong if they are delivered by a third party. They just take their clients and their money I guess. This was a 60 BUCKS ORDER too! Super disappointing, poor quality of food and unprofessional customer service 100% DO NOT RECOMMEND

I stopped by the Cemitas Puebla location on North Avenue with one thing in mind: the Cemita Atomica sandwich. This bundle of multiple types of meat is a carnivore's dream come true. So good, so filling and enough protein to keep me full for a week. Fresh avocado and cheese made the Sammy even better. Fair prices and good service rounded out the meal. Atmosphere isn't anthing special, but I was too focused on the food to notice. I will definitely be back.

The Cemitas is one of the best restaurants me and my husband we travel 45 miles to go there it's so worth it we love Cemitas sandwich, wacamoly and there own made chips are so tasty,I recommend this place to everyone, you will love it 👍

The place is not too appealing. They really need to update it and give it more of a Puebla flair. The cemitas are sort of dry. I had the the Milanesa and chalupa and I was not impressed. The cemitas are okay. They taste like a French bread cheese and avocado but favors don't pop at all.

If you're looking for authentic Mexican food don't go here. However, if you're looking for a nice environment, good service, and great food then this is the place for you! The food was amazing. I got a carne asada cemita is was a lot of food and delicious. I'm not sure what kind of cheese they put on it but it really pulled it together. Attention to detail was great and everything paired so perfectly. Would go back again soon.

Cemitas( big Mexican sandwich) are more bread than anything else, they don’t put a lot of meat, avocado, papalos ( green leaves), you are better off getting a regular Torta (less carbs). I must say the Chalupas a really good spicy hot, I was not impress with the place or the location of the restaurant, old and dirty looking, I did not like that the owner or father of the owner approached our table and started doing dummy magic tricks, let me enjoy my food please…. I will not go back to that place or recommend it, you can find better Tortas at a different place….

Looks like a typical low wend Mexican food shop in the Hispanic section of Chicago. Upon recommendation we went and were very happy with the food and the welcoming atmosphere. If it is your first visit don't be shy about asking what a Cemitas sandwich is. then be sure to listen and choose what sounds best to you. So much flavor and so different from anything you have eaten before.
I hear They've Made Some Changes But I must Revisit
Truly unique sandwiches, excellent flavors, and at the time I frequented it, Cemitas was family run. I must revisit it; their bread is truly incomparable.
