A pure gem

By Dream23015336443 |

We liked it so much we came back the foloowing evening. I live in Europe and know Italian cuisine. This is outstanding. Everything we tasted was delightful. Good wine list with affordable good Italian wines. I’m a veggie and there were plenty veggie options. The staff is efficient and service is good with a nice welcome. The decor is cosy and European. The owner was really nice and helpful. Best Italian meal I’ve had for a long time. Worth every buck. A pure gem.

Cozy

By Eliza O |

Beautiful space, tasty food. So much smaller than the pictures lead you to believe. I was expecting a very nice, large restaurant where I would feel fancy lol didn’t get that but still had a wonderful time.

GREAT FOOD, POOR SERVICE!

By FriskyFrisco |

The food at this restaurant was really good. Everything tasted fresh and was well presented. The Mâitre d' was very friendly. However, service was horrific. Bus girl never cleaned plates off our table. Water was never replenished. The waitress never asked how our dishes were. Never asked if we wanted another cocktail. Never checked in on us once. After waiting over an hour for our food she finally comes over and tells us they are out of linguini. We could wait another half an hour for them to make it or have them use spaghetti for the linguini dish. Not wanting to have to wait even longer, we agreed to the spaghetti substitution. Other tables that came in after us were served before us. Waitress plopped her behind on our table when taking an order from the table next to us. That was just disgusting! If it weren't for the delicious food, this place would have only received 1 STAR. No. I would not ever return.

Wonderful Italian Dinner

By Diana Z |

My husband and I stopped in on a Friday night as it was close to our hotel in Union Square. We had to wait about 15 minutes as we did not have a reservation. It gave us a chance to peruse the menu and decide which delicious entrees we wanted to try. Food was excellent - we even tried the frutta di bosco for dessert and loved it as well.

Wonderful neighborhood Italian restaurant

By leckman2016 |

Small, intimate atmosphere. I must say I cannot remember ever having a better plate of spaghetti and meatballs ($23). I will go there again!

Really Good

By DanandAnn |

We walked by Cesario’s one evening just after a very good dinner at another Italian restaurant in the neighborhood. Last night we were still in the mood for Italian so decided to give Cesario’s a try. What a great decision. It was even better than the first place. Four of us all ordered different meals and all of us very very pleased. The food was uniformly excellent and the serving staff we just great. It’s a a rather small place that was packed on a Sunday evening so make a reservation and treat yourself to a very nice meal at Cesario’s..

Second visit! Great visit!

By hutchss |

Second visit! Just dined here with a party of five. Everything was simply delicious. We all selected different entrees and loved them all. Great service, nice atmosphere, food cooked perfectly, great wine list, and very reasonable prices - close to Union Square!

Fantastic authentic Italian Restaurant

By Nick L |

A fantastic small Italian restaurant. The best food we have eaten in San Francisco and at quite a reasonable price. The staff were all very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Definitely recommend this gem.

OK but not wow

By Mohamad M |

Recommended by my hotel, I did not find the food very delicious. I had ordered a green salad, garlic bread and a vegetarian pasta. could have been better as the food was ok, and i did not enjoy my pasta.

Modestly Priced. Good food

By wsherman |

The place is in a good location near union square. Lovely European feel, good food & reasonably priced. Very fresh friendly staff

Very Nice Birthday Dinner - Be sure to make reservations!

By SwedebyMarriage529 |

We had a lovely dinner at this restaurant. The service was good and the food delicious . This reminded me of an old school dining experience and I appreciated it greatly. My husband and I both had pasta dishes which were tasty and plentiful. The only thing missing was white port to have with the dessert. The indoor dining space is small so be sure and make a reservation as the place was full on a Tuesday night!

great family feel Italian

By Ralph C |

Really Nice Italian it has a great family feel and the food was super good. the clams with pasta was so generous that i have never seen so many on one plate

Delicious food

By Subourd |

Very small restaurant with approximately 15+ tables kind of tightly packed due to limited space. Didn't wait long to be seated as we came just before many other folks did. The host was very nice. However once seated, took over 5 minutes just to get water. Shortly after, I asked for cup ice. Took me asking 2 people (waitress and then finally host) to actually get ice. Small place which seats 49 people although it would be clostrophobic if there were that many people and I had to sit in the middle of the restaurant. The evening we were there, it surprised me that there were only 2 waitresses on staff with one bus girl. Service a bit slow I ordered spaghetti and meatballs asked for light sauce and a little on the side. However when the food was delivered, there was a little too much sauce on my pasta. The good thing is that the sauce was delicious and I am VERY about red sauce. Also, the 3 meatballs (medium size) which were very good as well. My friend ordered chicken parm with vegetables which he liked. There was plenty of food for our lunches the following day.

Lovely lunch

By Ruben B |

We had lunch at this small but very nice restaurant. Staff was very friendly and helpfull and the food was delicious.

Hidden Gem off of Union Square

By Candi A |

We went to Cesario's to have lunch yesterday. We were in the City on a holiday shopping trip. I used Trip Advisor to check out the ratings on this restaurant. It lived up to the "high" remarks. We all had a different dish and they were all wonderful. The service was excellent and so was the location. It was a quick walk from Union Square.

Excellent

By Barry B |

I had the best prawn spaghetti in this restaurant that I have ever tasted, it was beautiful. I don’t normally get spaghetti dishes when I go to Italian restaurants, I always think I can do that at home. Not like this! The sauce made it of course, it was delicious. You must book before you go, even then you have to wait. People don’t want to leave!! It’s on the other end of the block where you drop off your rental car. Recommended.

Great food

By Catherine F |

Ate here on our final night in San Francisco and came across it by chance. Saw that it was packed but were lucky in that they accept walk in reservations. Had a fantastic meal of lobster ravioli and seafood pescatore. The amount of fish in both dishes was amazing. Atmosphere was laid back but buzzy. A great find and we can highly recommend it

Delicious, authentic Italian!

By MaryfromNY |

Delicious Italian food; this is our “go to” restaurant every time we’re in San Fran! Delicious pasta and seafood. Exceptional service.

Generally good

By Richard T |

We arrived without a reservation and were seated immediately. Others arriving later waited. On arrival we were served bread with oil based dips. The bread was very light and floury. The dips were rather basic. Service, however was excellent, even a little too fast. There is an excellent wine selection with wines by the glass. Our calamari appetiser was nice , and more an entree size, but some pieces were a little overcooked. Our pasta dishes were huge. My Penne with chicken was nice but the chicken was a little over cooked . My wife's fettuccine carbonara was very good. I ordered one espresso coffee. Two arrived and they were excellent. I noticed one of the specials was paella in a creamy sauce. I have never seen a creamy sauce with paella, even in Spain. Could be interesting. Is a return worth the effort? Definitely, but be careful when ordering. You really need to be hungry.

Great little Italian Bistro at a very fair price

By GreenAustinJ |

This was a surprise treasure right around the block from the Hotel Zeppelin, where we were staying. It was a couple of minute walk, and there we were, standing in the doorway smelling delicious smells. Cesario's is small, so I suggest booking a table to avoid disappointment. Their menu is classic Italian bistro food, and each thing we tried was delicious. SF is a city known for Italian food, and this was better than the much more famous (and way over-touristy) place we ate at the day before in North Beach. I would eat here on a regular basis if I lived nearby.

Original homemade Italian food

By Jose Vicente S |

This beautiful restaurant is attended by its owner. I had Excellent Italian food with with a local taste in San Francisco. I had ordered the espaguetis and meatballs and were delicious. I hugely recommend it.

Busy Italian

By CeilingsPA |

Nice restaurant serving fairly large portions, typical "American" Italian. Food was OK, tables are close, service was good and overall not bad value. The house red I thought was average at a fairly steep $10 a glass, All in all it is a fair choice in an expensive city. Highly recommend you book online, It does get very busy.

Excellent Italian Dinner in San Francisco

By MMS_DGS |

Excellent Italian Restaurant in Union Square area. Wonderful food & great service. Booked reservations... so glad we did. The menu was unique and offered a great variety for all. They are open for lunch and dinner.

Was better a couple of years ago

By Niclas M |

3 years ago, this was our favorite place to have dinner. Yesterday we went back, and it was not as we remembered it. The food was okay, but not more than that. Under seasoned, and a bit dry risotto.

Pleasant and intimate restaurant

By Gillrj |

Although the menu is not vast, there was a nice choice of tasty dishes. Our teenagers loved the meatballs and spaghetti. The staff were really attentive and pleasant and although the restaurant is on the small side, this added to the ambience. All in all, recommended for a reasonably priced and enjoyable meal.

Good Italian with traditional dishes

By DavidSB |

We are staying nearby & wanted a simple supper. Busy, but got a table without booking. Good service, conventional range of Italian dishes, tasty pasta.

This a great restaurant

By David R |

Although we were delayed in seating, the wait was well worth it. We had and shared the salmon special and fruit de mare. Both meals were quite excellent. The house salad had a great dressing on the side. We coupled this with a nice NZ wine and had a great evening meal. This appears to be a smaller restaurant and filled up fast but, overall, I have only very high marks for the food here.

Outstanding

By Benhur05 |

We had an outstanding dinner here recently. The pasta dishes we had were cooked to perfection. Eve who looked after us, helped us with our wine and food selections and did a wonderful job. Highly recommend

Happy we stumbled upon this restaurant!

By sandar1 |

We got the last table for two before ppl ended up having to wait outside. Happy to see they are taking mask protocol and vaccination confirmation seriously as the place is tiny, and tables are very close together. The food was excellent. We shared the Pear salad (plenty for 2), with the Penne Bolognese and the Truffle Gnocchi as our main courses. So good! Very attentive server and cozy atmosphere. Try it if you can get in.

Good Neighborhood Italian

By Terry928 |

Cesario's is a tiny place, with tables tight together. It's in a great location near Union Square. We visited here on a previous trip to San Francisco, so were anxious to try it again. The food was quite good. The polenta lasagna was unusual and delicious. The kitchen was kind enough to make my husband's garlic-free pasta entree to order. The chicken piccatta was also delicious. For San Francisco, this is a moderately priced restaurant. I'm giving 4 stars because the service was incredibly slow on the night we visited, and also due to the tight quarters. However, the food was worth the wait.

Very nice italian food

By Elio |

As italian, that’s a real italian restaurant. A lot of people at evening, so don’t forget to call before your visit!

....

By Dac |

Had 7:00 reservations, at 8:20 we were asked to leave because they had someone waiting for our table. I had half of my drink left. Very rude. Won’t be be back.

Hidden gem in Union Square

By Loreen B |

BOTTOM LINE: Quaint Italian restaurant with great food and a wonderful vibe and ambiance. A little pricey. We stumbled upon this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised! Cute Italian restaurant. The place reminded me of old school Italian home my grandparents lived in the way it was decorated. You are almost sitting in the kitchen so you know everything that is going on. I liked that. The food was really good. The bread was nice and soft. The appetizers were the highlight of the meal. We ordered the bruschetta and it was AWESOME. We also LOVED the polenta fries - EXCELLENT. Calamari - DELICIOUS! Our main courses were average. Chicken piccata was just OK. The truffle gnocchi weren’t great in that I couldn’t even taste the truffle. The best main course we had was the spaghetti and meatballs - sometimes the basics are what is best! Also, wine selection isn’t the best but adding insult to injury it was like a 3-4oz pour and it was around $10 (but it was in old school wine glasses which again reminded me of my grandparents!). Service was excellent and the restaurant (very small) was filled with people. The place is worth a try. You won’t be disappointed!

Cesario's is quiet, lovely, and inviting for Italian food

By Janet Tj |

We showed up with no reservation on December 26 with a party of six, which included two children. We were immediately seated and well taken care of by staff. I ordered the appetizer of Calamari Fritt for the table, which was devoured by all but especially the children! Each said that their meal was excellent. I had the pasta dish of Conchiglie Gorgonzola (Seashell Pasta, Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Spinach, Gorgonzola Cream) which was great. I cleaned my plate, which is rare. My spouse had Veal Piccata which was excellent. Highly recommend Cesario's if you're near Union Square.

Old Fashioned Italian

By Thomas V |

A good place for old fashioned Italian cuisine, pasta dishes. Very reasonable prices and a party atmosphere. Very professional service, good location downtown.

Good Gluten-free options

By Gene K |

My wife tries to eat gluten-free and this Italian restaurant offers several possibilities for dinner. She selected the Polenta Lasagna and was very glad she did. I had the cheese ravioli and it was excellent. Service was friendly and efficient. The only downside is that tables are extremely close together.

Italian date night

By McKimi |

We loved this restaurant, visiting during our first trip to San Francisco. We had received a recommendation from another couple staying at our nearby hotel. The restaurant ambiance, staff and food all met our hopes and expectations for Italian tonight. While there was nothing special about the crab cake starter, we loved the rest of our courses. My husband enjoyed the Veal Parmesan. I found the risotto was the most enjoyable I’ve ever had. We do not claim to be wine experts, but really enjoyed a bottle of the Italian house red for $35. We finished with a splurge on a classic dessert duo: tiramisu and cannoli. Servings were generous. Check total was quite reasonable for this city: $135. All staff were smiling and friendly. Eve was our table server - welcoming, pleasant and smart — awesome on the server scale.

Holiday dinner

By James B |

Visited here when myself and my family were on holiday in San Francisco, i have to say it wasn’t the cheapest but an amazing Italian restaurant, came here twice in the week we had in San Fran it was that good, 1 word to describe it....delicious!!!

Kept going back for more

By Janlett |

I ate at Cesario's three times in the 4 days I spent in San Francisco and every time the food was excellent, the service was excellent and the ambiance quiet and genteel. Try the lobster ravioli, the ravioli fiorantino; I imagine anything with pasta will be excellent. For dessert the frutta del bosco was delicious. Very charming waitstaff.

Good food, good service, well located

By Rick K |

Cesario's is located within 2 blocks of several major San Francisco theaters (our reason for being in that area) and Union Square. We had lunch ... She had a really good salad, and I found the lasagna to be extremely tasty ... and by that I mean good food tasty, not heavily seasoned to suggest or cover taste. Served with fresh veggies. Service was gracious and pleasant without being overbearing. Place is nicely decorated. Prices reasonable. A good find, happy to recommend it.

Hidden Gem -- Great Italian Food

By Rottentot |

A few small steps from our hotel was Cesario's. The hotel recommended it and was spot on! We ate here for our "last supper" before flying out the next day!

Fine ambience, good service, fair food.

By Mario G |

We went to Cesario’s invited for a business dinner. Considering the ambience and location close to Union Square the prices of food and wine are generally fair. However, being an Italian restaurant, the food has opportunity for improvement.

Molto Bene

By TruthTraveler |

We decided to try Cesario's primarily because it was a Sunday night, rainy and it was walkable from our hotel. Glad we did. The worst thing you can say about this place is that it is not located in North Beach and so is tainted with a "tourist" rep. It is very small, but nicely old school atmosphere on a rainy night. We had a reservation for two and the manager/owner initially tried to seat us at the worst table - literally right at the door. No thanks. We got a table for four by the window which was quite nice. We had an very good/excellent pear salad, spaghetti pomadoro, spaghetti carbonara and all were very good and reasonably priced. House wine by the glass perfectly decent. Espresso was good too. Missed out on a post-prandial Sambucca because, regrettably, the place doesn't have a hard liquor license. Too bad. Solid Italian fare without the North Beach cache. Happy Trails.

Delicious Italian food

By Kristin M |

We just happened to be walking by on our way to Chinatown, from our hotel. So glad we stopped! Granted, it was at 2:30 pm, and there was only a couple of tables that were taken. We sat right by the window. Our waitress was great! My husband and I had a caesar salad and then split the special, lobster lasagna. Before the meal, they brought us warm bread with 3 different olive oils for dipping. The prices were great too. Highly recommend this small gem on the corner.

We reserved and no table

By Paolocosti |

indecent booked via app and makes us wait over 20 minutes in a hotel thoroughly and we are not given any assistance or clarification not even an apology we left waiting for half an hour

100% Mediocre

By GlobalQuest |

A lively environment promises a delightful dining experience… and it would be, if the food had flavor! Everything is nicely plated and visually appealing… then the flavors fall flat. Tender veal and lovely pasta coated in watery Marsala sauce. Risotto nicely loaded with rock shrimp and veggies but no flavor to the base, tasting like it was cooked in water rather than a flavorful stock. Generous crabcakes with crispy exteriors and mushy interior, with little evidence of crab and lots of filler. Totally mediocre food in a lovely establishment.

Just okay, there are better choices in SF area

By tskstaplet |

Cesario’s is a solid Italian restaurant choice in San Francisco. I went solo for dinner and was seated right away. Below are the pros/cons Pros 1. Service was very good 2. Cozy place - good atmosphere 3. Soup of day (Crab Bisque) was a large portion and very hot Cons 1. Crab Bisque has no real flavor. I really didn’t even taste crab. It looked good and it was in a large crock but it was very tasteless 2. Chicken Parm portion was average for price. Some of the chicken was good but another piece was very chewy - couldn’t eat it. 3. Way too much cheese on the chicken parm 4. I had angel hair pasta as my side - pasta cooked well but pomodoro sauce was also bland.

Favorite Place in San Fran

By theadventuresofcheyanne |

The staff, food and ambiance were everything I was wanting in a nice Italian dinner. I enjoyed a spaghetti dish with prawns, and my friend and I shared the flour-less chocolate cake. Portions are generous and we both left very stuffed. This is also a very close walk to union square, and I feel like a wonderful option.

Worst care of SF - DO NOT WASTE TIME HERE

By Mobile15546392721 |

Hostess does not matter to serve you, it seems to be the owner which makes the scenario even worse. Don't waste your time, SF has amazing restaurants that serve well ...this here never!

Don’t bother

By California |

I depend on reading reviews without writing them- it’s time I gave back. Felt upscale, ambience lovely, food mediocre at best. Parmesan wasn’t fresh grated, they left a bowl on the table. Butter for the bread came in individual plastic containers. Lobster ravioli- tasty, but shrimp on top were overcooked to inedible. Pear salad- walnuts were burnt, pears unripe, almost no Gorgonzola. Steak- very chewy, mashed potatoes were cold - not room temperature but chilled. Polenta fries- good, nothing special.

Italian Restaurant

By miguelf421 |

Very very good food! If you have the budget you should try it… it is not super expensive but it is not low cost… 🤷‍♂️ The location is easly accessible if you are staying in downtown

Terrible experience

By Deborah |

We had seen all the great reviews so were looking forward to eating here. We booked a table for 7pm however when we arrived we were escorted next door to the hotel to wait for our table. At 740 (!) we were brought to our table back in the restaurant - with an apology. So we went to order. My husband ordered a chicken and pasta dish and asked for no cheese, however when it was served - it had cheese on. We complained and they apologetically took it away and a few minutes later returned with the Sam dish,. They had scrapes the cheese off and recooked it, so the chicken was extremely tough and the accompanying pasta was stone cold. None of it was eaten. They 'kindly' took $10 off the check at the end. I think this restaurant massively relies on tourists and people simply playing ball, whether it's wrong orders or waiting for a table that's been reseeved. Really disappointed.

Loved it!

By Lilja G |

Cesario's was the first restaurant me and my friends ate at after arriving in San Francisco, and we were all both hungry and tired after a long flight. The food was super tasty and the staff was excellent! We were so impressed that we came back the night before we left. I definitely recommend!

Close, Convenient and Savory Italian meal

By Kathy H |

A small restaurant tucked around the corner from JWMarriott not too far from union square It has an enjoyable but tight view from the corner for people watching. The Tuscan chicken was raved about with the vegetables and pasta devoured by my companion. The server was so helpful in recommendations from the menu and was very attentive.

Excellent

By HNBISOFF |

Cesario’s exceeded our expectations. This small quaint restaurant serves excellent Italian food. The lasagna and bolognese were extremely good. The service was very good on a busy Saturday evening. Wonderful restaurant.

Nothing special

By Love2Travel |

Small. Tables were very close to each other. Server was rude. Owner was sweet. Lasagna looked good. Veal Marsala was not the usual. Nothing special.

Gorgeous food

By Strictlyfan |

Walked past this tiny place in a corner & it was packed. We managed to get a table after a 15 minute wait as we hadn’t booked. The food was fabulous, you could tell the pasta had been made freshly and the portions were great. I would definitely eat here again if I am ever lucky enough to go back to San Francisco

Great dinner

By Vaman Spa |

The food was amazing, prefer temperature and delicious, easy to find and service was great everyone was very kind and attentive.

Very acommodating staff and delicious food.

By ResearchJohn |

My wife and I popped in because she was hangry. The host greeted us immediately and welcomed our special request for a to go order. He sat us down brought us water and my drink and made us feel special even though we only ordered one entree. Our dish was delicious. Ihighly suggest you try this place if you like northern Italian.

Mediocrity on a plate

By PhillC |

A nice pear gorgonzola salad ... Completely ruined by absolutely rancid/stale candied walnuts. A minestrone that was bland as it could be Bread with the taste and texture of Wonder Bread. In San Francisco, you can do better. Much better.

Dinner

By _deemf89 |

We stumbled on this spot as it was in our neighborhood. The food was great! Polenta fries, Gorgonzola dish, Butternut squash ravioli and a Tiramisu for dessert. Good eats. The manager does a great job of checking on tables.

Perfect lunch in a relaxed atmosphere!

By Didelphis |

We chose the restaurant because it offers a good daily dish on a blackboard. We had carpacio as an appetizer, gnocci and ravioli truffled with lobster stuffing as main courses and tiramisú as dessert. Everything was perfect! The Service was also optimal, friendly and unobtrusive. We can fully recommend this place.

Great dinner before the theatre

By Greg G |

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at this nice little restaurant, right off Union Square. Perfect San Francisco experience!

So my wife wanted an Italian Dinner.

By santaclara69 |

Used Trip Advisor to find the best restaurants in the City. This came up as the #1 Italian place to eat. It was so good. We were a bit on the early side for dinner and got to meet the owner who served us. They actually survived the pandemic and barely made it. It is small on the corner and holds maybe 30 diners at once. It is delicious, the staff is so friendly, and the prices are above average but not expensive.

First class quality food

By Romnarz |

The pear salad was perfect - pears just the right degree of ripeness - generous portion - we shared - the nut nougat complimented the pear - dressed lightly and finished with a sprinkling of hard cheese . There were three dishes on the special menu - the fish was cooked perfectly - yes the tables are close but we met a lovely couple from New Zealand so thats a bonus

Welcoming

By Neil R |

In our 3 evening stay in San Fran we managed to eat here twice. Recommended by our hotel nearby we weren't disappointed. The wait staff managed to find us a table as walk ins off the street, the service was excellent & the food was just divine. The restaurant was busy each night we rocked up & the other customers were friendly to a couple of Aussie strays.

I enjoyed that

By ManfredJS |

Great small Italian restaurant near Union Square. Good food. Cozy atmosphere. Friendly accommodating staff. Reasonably priced. Waitress asked and chef prepared special seafood meal for me. Super.

Excellent panini

By Costellery |

We both had paninis. One chicken one veggie. Both excellent. Coffee was super fresh and good. Prices also great.

Great atmosphere

My wife and I had dinner recently in Cesarios after a long transatlantic flight .Cosy restaurant . Food and atmosphere really good . Well looked after by a lovely waitress whose name we have forgotten , sorry !

An authentic Italian that has a busy following

By aholyman |

When you are staying next door it’s really easy to just fall into this local Italian. So I’m sure a lot of their business is from the Marine Hotel. The food and service was good. A good wine list complimented the menus.

Great food miserable staff

By chris d |

Had a meal here last night. The food was lovely, high quality and decent size portions. Price around $25-$30 dollars for a main meal. The only thing that spoilt it was the staff. Very miserable and quick to end your meal. Pleasant staff would make this so much more!!!

Small Space

By Dools12 |

Food was OK - nothing over the top. We had a reservation and still waited about 20 minutes. Tables on top of each other.

Always good!

By Jill H |

Whenever we stay at the Marine Memorial in San Francisco we make a point to eat here one of the evenings. Never disappoints.

#1 Italian restaurant in San Francisco

By Jeff and Cheri |

Cesario's outshines all the other Italian restaurants in San Francisco. Alex manages the front of house with dignity and an appreciation that you are there. The servers are stellar and very helpful with any questions you might have. My wife and I have eaten at Cesario's numerous times over the last few years. Everything we have ordered is something we would order again without hesitation. The food is fresh and flavorful. The bread is made and baked in house. The wine list is excellent. Lunch here is also an excellent option.

Not recommendable

By bavaria |

I had a business dinner at Cesario's. The food was good and also the drinks - prices in line with San Francisco. The staff were not really friendly and rather annoyed. The worst thing was that the bill was charged twice on my credit card. No apology - nothing. I had to go through my bank to get the money back. So watch out when paying by card!

Definitely Not the Northend

By Sten |

The tables are so close together that I ate dinner with another couple - too bad they didn't speak English otherwise we could have discussed the meal. Bread is served first with three oils for dipping, not warmed and average quality. For main entree I ordered Penne and sausage marinara. Real marinara sauce has the taste and juice of fresh tomato, but also a velvety texture and the rich bite of olive oil. If done right, it is lighter red not dark red, maroon, or opaque like a vodka sauce. No clue what they did, no doubt from a jar or can - but not marinara sauce. The sausage - below average quality. The house wine was $10 a glass, seriously? ok - I'll just blame San Francisco for that.

Great Italian Restaurant

By michelle r |

We has such a great experience at this restaurant. Made a reservation and glad I did because the place gets busy, Food was outstanding and very well priced.

Dinner Out

By Hardrocker8888 |

My cousin and I had dinner here. We had reservations so we were quickly seated. The restaurant was busy for a Saturday night. The tables were tightly packed. I enjoyed my Chicken Marsala. And I enjoyed the Crab Cakes. Unsure if there were refills on my Coke—I was not asked. I didn’t have dessert but looking at the table next to us, the Tiramisu looked delicious.

A lovely place to dine in San Francisco

By enidgail |

Cesario's was conveniently located on the corner of the street where our hotel was. We were too tired to go looking around for someplace special, so we took a chance and just walked in for an early dinner. The service was polite and fast, and our meals were surprisingly good. Very good in fact. It was the best dinner we had in San Francisco that week. It was clean and friendly, and later on that evening we saw they put tables and chairs outside in front of the restaurant as the weather was good. The prices were reasonable and the menu was tempting. I finally had time to post this review and I just found the photos of our meals. Try it, you'll be pleased for sure. It was a lovely dinner.

Horrible experience

By rosserbedwards |

Find another place. We attempted to go to Cesario’s for a family dinner. We made a reservation on Open table for 730. There were plenty of openings including 745 and 8pm. We showed up at 737pm. 7 minutes late. The owner said he had cancelled our reservation. There were two empty tables. He went over to one and straightened a few things and came back to his post. We waited. Finally we left. Horrible place and service. Find another place.

Cramped Seating

By rbux |

My wife and I made reservations at this very small, crowded restaurant. When we arrived, we were led to a small table in the middle of the room, where another couple was already sitting, We were told this was our table. When I asked to be moved, the waiter shrugged and said “this is a small restaurant.” I have been in many “cozy” restaurants before, but I have never shared a table with another couple quite like this. I kept bumping into the lady next to me; I could have reached over and eaten off her plate. So much for private conversations, we could hear each other’s every word. Really ruined our last night in SF. Shame on this restaurant for squeezing out another buck by disregarding the comfort of their patrons. Inexcusable. A for the food, F for the seating Date of visit: October 2022

Good Italian near Union Square

By ALEX P |

Small and friendly local Italian a few blocks from Union Square. Nice menu was good pasta and Italian favorites. I had the Ravioli and my guest had the chicken picata - both were very good. It's small so make a reservation. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The prices are also good for this area. Seems they just have a beer and wine license.

A delight - a real hidden gem

By Sue N |

Our hotel was very close by to this wonderful restaurant. Every time we walked past it, it was absolutely packed. So, we decided what better place to have our last dinner in SF? We were not disappointed. We had booked - thank goodness - as people queue up outside this place. They continually have to turn people away! It was tight inside, as they like to serve as many people as possible, but that did not take away from the delicious dinner we had. The atmosphere was homely, not pretentious and the service was great. This place is a hidden gem. Do try and visit - you will not be disappointed.

Rude owner and I’d suggest you don’t book!

I booked a table at this restaurant and turned up on time only to be left waiting for 10 minutes, before anyone spoke to me and then to be told that they couldn’t accommodate me. They said if I wanted 20-30 minutes they MIGHT have a table available - rude staff and what’s the point of booking if you don’t honour your booking. I wasn’t the only person to have this experience - won’t go back!!

Very good food; reasonable prices

By dfb260 |

We enjoyed a nice dinner here. The only disappointments were the bland white bread and the fact that the seating is very cramped ( like many places in SF, it seems). Most entrees are $18-28. Would recommend and would return.

Pasta heaven true Italian food

By Amanda D |

The hotel gives you a discount paper but I was pleasantly surprised at the range of true Italian food on offer.I also had a glass of red wine.

A fantastic experience for a great meal

By Michael M |

Went to lunch here on a Saturday and returned for dinner two nights later. The food here is excellent along with the atmosphere. Prices are great too! Highly recommend this restaurant for fine Italian dining.

Delicious Lasagna!!

By Kaylie W |

This restaurant is easy to walk to if you are staying at the Ritz or near Union Square. There is not a lot of seating so I would recommend making a reservation, and we did so quite easily through the Open Table app. My husband ordered the “Meat Lasagna” and it was very delicious, so I would highly recommend that! I ordered the “Ravioli Florentina” and it was very good as well, but not jaw-dropping. Overall it was a great experience!

Excellent

By Laura M N |

We really enjoyed our dinner, the did was incredible and the service was excellent. I had the chicken marsula with polenta. Would highly recommend.

Delicious

By Kirsten Y |

My husband and I stayed at The Canterbury and wanted a restaurant within walking distance for our last night in San Francisco. We used the Open Table app and found Cesario's. Although it was a busy Sunday night, we were seated quickly and before we knew it, our dinners arrived. I had the lobster ravioli and my husband good old spaghetti and meatballs. It was delicious! We were very happy we chose Cesario's.

Father's Day Hit!

By CaNative07 |

We tried Cesario's for the first time this past Father's Day. We had theater tickets, and the Union Square location was convenient. What a great find! First, its tiny - I mean tiny. Definitely have a reservation. The regular menu was offered as were several Fathers Day specials. The vegetarian in our group found many things to her liking, as did the carnivores. The special salmon medallion with mashed potatoes in a pinot/balsamic reduction is pictured. Other dishes tried: eggplant parmesan, chicken parmesan, and a seafood paella, which was more like risotto, but who cares - it was delicious! Everyone loved their food, and were glad we skipped a first course to save room for dessert. Creme brulee, tiramisu, flourless chocolate cake, and cannolis were sampled. The chocolate cake was a standout, the cannolis creamy in a thick shell. The creme brulee was creme brulee, and the tiramisu was a little on the dry side. Overall really wonderful, fantastic service, and menu choices, and great values on the wine list. We will return, if only to take the cannoli.

Simple but good Italian restaurant

By Alfredo8074 |

We walked from our hotel to this fine Italian restaurant. Were greeted by the owner and immediately shown to our table. Ordered two very nice glasses of Italian Rufifino prosecco wine. As main dishes we had the chicken marsala and the truffle gnocchi, both very good, particularly the gnocchi. This is a quiet restaurant with frequent, older guests that are all locals. The main dishes were moderately prices and so were the drinks. A nice, clean restaurant to enjoy a quiet evening with good, reliable food.

Great Sunday lunch

By BerlinG-ParisF |

This place is 3 blocks steeply downhill from Nob Hill but worth the hike down and back up afterwards. I just drank water where as my other half had water and 1 glass of Sauvignon Blanc Cedar Brook (misspelled as Ceder on the receipt). He started with the soup of the day, a cream of mushroom, which he said was very good and obviously freshly made. He had the daily special Fruitti Di Mare-a seafood dish with all the shells! I had the delicious Veal Saltimbocca with Penne Pasta. Server Alex, per the receipt, was attentive. He was originally from Persia (Iran) and very classy and great at his job! There were only 8 people dining while we were there: 1 table of 4, 2 singles, and us. They had a great picture of the fat lady singing so I am posting that with my review as well as other pictures of the food and location. Price in total was just $70 plus tax and tip, which is very good for a city like San Francisco. When we return, I would definitely consider a return visit if they're still in all my programs such as Open Table and idine. Grazie!

Solid Italian

By Mark |

We found Cesario's to be a tasty spot for some Italian basics. The minestrone soup tasty. The Caesar Salad was a basic as it gets, but the dressing was good and the side portion of anchovies was generous enough that there was one for almost every bite. Finally, we shared the Penne Melanzane (eggplant, Kalamata olives, tomatoes, fresh spinach and a light pomodoro sauce). It was delicious! The staff was nice and service was good. We were happy with the food.

Good quality good price good service

By neuron1964 |

We walked passed Cesario’s a few times on our way to our hotel and it always seemed frequented. So we popped in for a late dinner and were happy we did. Friendly staff, good wine at a reasonable price and the food was worth it.

Fresh and delicious

By mg_north |

Door Dashed a pickup order (although delivery was available as well). Chicken marsala and risotto was flavorful without being heavy. The cooked vegetables were actually cooked well, which seems unusual at a lot of restaurants. They were firm and fresh-tasting.

Great lunch!

By KarenDeschaine |

What a fantastic lunch! I had the lobster ravioli (on lunch special) and it was absolutely delicious. The restaurant was slow on a Wednesday for lunch which made me nervous but this place is a gem. The waiter was lovely too.

Good food

By AJ - Gramps |

Quaint local place with good food. Staff was friendly. Its a small place so you will get to sit close.

Not rhe best italian

By allobour |

The place is beautiful, but the food is not as good. The appetizer of fried polenta was good, but the risotto was not. I dont recommande this restaurant if you want to eat great italian plate

Great Food, ‘Cozy’ Seating

By jillba10 |

Excellent, generously- portioned food. Staff were pleasant and efficient. The only drawback is that this is a small restaurant. The tables are very close together. We could literally rub elbows with the people sitting next to us. Next time, we will request one of the tables by the windows to give us more room. An excellent value for the quality and portion of food you get.

Good for Quick Togo

By Tht_Queen_B |

I recently ordered take out for dinner. The hotel recommended this place due to the proximity. This place had 2 small tables for outdoor dining but better to dine inside. They do not have the setup like other establishments in the area. This reminds me of a small Italian kitchen with few tables once inside, very intimate setting. I placed an order and it was ready within 15 minutes. I highly recommend the chicken parmigiana with pasta. The chicken was crispy, cheesy, and saucy. If I wasn’t pressed for time, I would have dined in person. Overall, I will return.

Amazing! Loved the garlic

By Keri H |

Amazing! Loved the garlic Parmesan bread and risotto gamberi! Near Union square, Frank Sinatra playing, old school Italian vibe!

Must try

By Gretchen T |

Excellent worth a try ! Everything was fresh and on point . Good value . Friendly staff . Nice atmosphere. Pasta cook Al dente! Cooked to perfection . Pleasant experience

Not that I expected

By EvgUtd |

It was Sunday evening and me with my wife finding a place to eat. Looks nice. Food satisfactory. But serving is awful. Four servants and no one smile. Everything you do irritating them. After we finished food they thrown me a check. Not very pollite. Go to this restaurant only if You have no choice.

Simply outstanding

By Keith F |

This is a beautifully furnished intimate restaurant. The staff are friendly and professional, the menu attractive and nicely priced. The food is simply outstanding. I had their linguine carbonara followed by the house tiramisu and have never had better. If you are in San Francisco and looking for a superb Italian meal, go no further than Cesario’s.

Good size plates and delicious!

By Ana |

We were visiting San Francisco for the weekend, the day we were leaving we decided to go to a restaurant close to the hotel, no expectations at all, what a great surprise! from the beginning, the server super friendly, then the cocktails for $6 (omg). We stated with some calamari. good size plate and tasty!, then we got the paella and the linguini di mare (i believe this is the name), lots of seafood on the plates, we were really happy, this is the place you go when you want to feel the authentic Italian flavors and if you are hungry. We juts loved it!

Quaint, tasty and good Italian close to the action.

By jabnolla |

Quaint, family style, attentive, tasty and friendly atmosphere. We did our OpenTable reservation at the last moment and it was memorable. The food was very good and the wine recommendation as well. Carpaccio, Polenta Lasagna, Veal Marsala, linguine carbonara and spicy Capellini Pomodoro were really good, with the Gabbiano Chianti Classico. Would come back.

Great Italian food

By Debbie S |

We visited this restaurant during a city break to San Francisco. The food came quickly and quality was really good. They bring some fresh bread and dips to start, which was lovely. The portions for the mains were very generous. We also had the mango sorbet for desert which finished it off nicely. Would recommend.

Old world charm and authenticity

By Marla B |

I have been passing by this restaurant for well over 20+ years and finally decided it was time to give it a try. I took a friend there for lunch for her BD. It was mid week so the place was pretty quiet. We both found the restaurant to be charming and intimate. Our server Alex a long time employee took a bit of warming up, but after a bit, he was quite engaging. The prices are really reasonable for both the service, ambiance, quantity and quality. We started w/the Calamari Fritti ($17), which was quite good but pretty skimpy and they could have skipped the fried artichoke hearts and just added more Calamari. Great dipping sauce, not the standard seafood sauce. My friend had the Eggplant Parm ($20) which she loved and I had the Penne Bolognese ($20) at the suggestion of another guest. Servings were huge and food was hot. I was a tad disappointed in the Bolognese sauce. It was really chunky with meat and nicely thick and not runny or watery but was quite flavorless. It needed a lot more seasoning or Red Wine or something. Not what I'm usually used to. We each had a coffee which was made per cup and delicious. I will be back and try something else. Oh and Alex does warm up after a bit. Old school charm and finesse.

Nice Dinner & Dessert (the best)

By Monica R |

We had dinner here to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We were staying at the Herbert hotel near Union Square. We were able to walk from our hotel to the restaurant. It was a little uphill and passed some homeless people at night. That was sad to see as most were in a pretty bad state. But we did not feel unsafe or that the walk was too far. I would recommend reservations! We did not make reservations (on a Monday night) and initially were unable to get a table. I asked the manager at the door if we could come back later and be able to get in. He told me to come back at 9 pm. We returned at 8:40 pm and he was able to seat us. We got a 2 top right by the kitchen. It is a small restaurant and tables are very close. But I did enjoy the intimacy and decor. Our server was not overly friendly or personable at first. I felt like it was kind of that snooty persona. However, I am from Texas, and we are very friendly people. I let her know we were celebrating our anniversary, and I was talkative and sweet. She loosened up and seemed to smile and have a pleasant manner. We ordered a 1/2 bottle of wine and then ordered the other 1/2. We should have just ordered a bottle. Would have been a better price. We had the calamari as an appetizer. Not bad/nothing great or special. We shared the Caesar salad. it was good but not the best I have had either. The dressing is on the lighter/mayo side. The bread they serve was excellent to me. It is served soft with Italian seasoning on the crust. My husband tends to like a crunchy crust. We shared the Meat Lasagna. I highly recommend this dish. My husband loved it. I thought it could have used just a little more sauce. It definitely tastes homemade. But the BEST thing we had was the Limoncello Cake. We almost got another piece it was so great! I will remember that dessert forever. It is light and refreshing with the perfect lemon flavor. I would recommend giving this restaurant a try. Just make reservations and order the Lasagna and Limoncello Cake.

Real Deal

By skuzzy |

There are many places in SF purporting that they are “ authentic Italian “ whatever that may mean . Cesarios is unpretentious... it is a quaint restaurant in the heart of city . It seats about 50 and is cosy and inviting . The decor suits the old world feel . The menu is traditional Italian selection and can appease most people’s desires . It has a great selection of local and Italian wines to complement your dining experience. I sampled a few dishes and entrees and desert to test its authenticity and I have to say they came up trumps . While the food is the reason you go to restaurants it’s the service you get that can make or break a recommendation . Cesarios staff can take a bow ... they really work hard to make your experience memorable. The prices are very comfortable on the pocket which isn’t easy when you a restaurant parked in the middle of SF Now for the authentic bit .... the only true Italian authentic meal can only really be found somewhere in Italy in a little house in Tuscany somewhere in the hills and cooked by a grandmother with produce from her back garden , picked fresh .... Cesarios does Italian well in a old fashion way with good old fashion service ... while it may not be “ authentic “ it does it better than most .

Great food

Beautiful place, great options on the menu, good service, and great food 🥘. We loved it. We loved the mount veeder winery.

Cesario's excellent

By Janice L |

My husband and I had dinner here December 30 2019. The atmosphere is lovely, dinner superb. I had butternut squash ravioli and delicious minestroni soup. Price was reasonable. Service was great.

good food, good location

By teacherfamily |

Reservations strongly recommended--this place is tiny. The food is good. The service is personal, the location is close to all kinds of things near Sutter St.

Authentic and good food

By Ann Mie |

Really good food Small and authentic and very cozy restaurant Good pastries, good steak and good chicken breast with accessories

This is NOT a good Italian restaurant !

By angela h |

This was so bad. Fake Italian good. I seriously cannot believe anyone recommended this place. It was full of tourists and Chianti wine in a raffia bag, which is a sure sure sign that you do not want to trust this place! I had the eggplant Parmesan, and it had so much creamy ricotta with no flavor and sliced tomatoes in it. The tomatoes were bland and had no flavor. The penne was over cooked and the sauce was less than mediocre. Run do not walk away from this place as quickly as you can!

Bland

By LucyLeo50 |

A group of six of us went to this restaurant from a recommendation. Most of our group said the food was fairly bland and lacked any flavor. The meatballs seemed dry and the sauces dull - almost as if they came out of a can. None of us would return. There are too many other places in SF to get real Italian food.

Good Italian Menu

By Zoom_Gotti |

Good Italian style near Union Square area. Space is kind of small so at busy times you might want to try to reserve. The menu is pretty extensive. I went for the eggplant plate and some minestrone. They also do some interesting pastas and veal and chicken plates. It stays open a bit later than most of the surrounding eateries.

A great night at Cesario’s!

By Penz |

Excellent food- excellent service! Highly recommend! Four of us ate at Cesario’s on Tuesday 9/8. The server was so friendly- talking and joking with us. We ordered caprese salad, grilled chicken, meatballs, pear salad, cream of mushroom soup, crab cakes, and we can all agree that everything was delicious. Very nice restaurant - prices were average for San Francisco.

Mediocre at best

By Richard S |

If you want to sit in your neighbors lap eat here. Your elbows will likely intertwine should you be seated at a central table. Bruschetta was ok. Egg plant was more like a lasagna. Service was good if you like the server’s butt in your face when serving your neighbor’s table. If you go get a booth.

Wonderful experience

By CYaNextTrip |

My wife reserved a table online around 7pm. It's a small location but they had a table cramped and hidden next to the kitchen. I was hungry so I didn't put up a fuss. It was a wise decision. The service was perfect, the wait was minimal, and the quality of the food was perfect. We had a lovely evening and the price was just right.

The food saved them!

By johnnoall39 |

We decided to head here on our last night in San Francisco. We booked a table for 8pm and arrived a couple of minutes early. We entered to a full restaurant. The waitress said they were just waiting for a couple of table to pay and would we mind waiting for a few minutes, of course we didn’t. Then a couple of women arrived a few minutes later and proceeded to make there way in front of us. Seeing a table being readied we already could see what was about to happen. The waitress sat the two ladies first leaving us to wait another ten minutes for a table. Eventually we were seated. Bread and oils we provided and water on the tables which was very nice. More than a few minutes went by before our drink order was taken, then the food. It all felt a little chaotic even as the restaurant gradually emptied. Our drinks tasted slightly strange which wasn’t ideal. Then the food! All credit to the chef! He saved what could have been a frustrating evening. It was a huge portion which I don’t mind and was perfectly cooked. I would go again but I know now it would purely be for the food!

Don't Bother

By Liv2travel |

We had dinner here for Christmas day. The restaurant itself is charming but we were really disappointed with our meals and the overall service here. The food was tasteless and wait staff lacked basic service skills. I would take a hard pass on this restaurant. There are too many other good ones in the area.

Okay, not wonderful...

By Kim |

Traditional Italian restaurant, service good, food was alright but not wonderful... All a bit bland if I'm being honest.

Lovely little Italian Dinner

By kevinbI9006EX |

As others have stated the tables are very close together. The food was excellent, the staff worked excellent, always on hand. Best to book ahead, we did while walking past.

GOOD

By cbornoz |

Good Italian restaurant, for my part it is not the best spaghetti vongole that I have eaten, but my friends were very satisfied with their dishes

Authentic and excellent Italian

By Redpinkrose |

Arrived in San Francisco from Texas and were both delighted to find such an authentic Italian close to our hotel. Both the prawn spaghetti and fruit de la mer were delicious. Super flavour with good lingering taste. Recommend

Nice find for an elegant lunch

By jrweis6 |

Stopped in Cesario's on a spur of the moment decision and we weren't disappointed. Lobster ravioli was on the lunch menu and it was delicious. Our waiter was a perfect blend of attentiveness and style. Lunch was so good we ordered a tiramisu and it was a perfect ending to a fine meal.

Good find in area near Union Square

By 523anon |

The food was good, but a few issues before you try, is the reason for three star rating. Restaurant is small and tables close together, but you can see this from outside. Our starter arrived promptly but main a little slow, but was good quality. Restrooms out of order and had to ask where to go, hotel next door? A bit strange That said, if you fancy Italian in this area then it’s worth a go and price competitive.

Pop in for dinner and then go again!!!

By lismike2020 |

We dropped in yesterday only to hear they were booked out … “come back in half an hour… “ but we booked right then for tonight… and we were greeted warmly with .. “You are back!”. What a warm and friendly restaurant with a great atmosphere! We weren’t sure what wine to choose since it was an Italian white we hadn’t heard of… so the maître d’ brought a small glass to taste before we settled on a bottle. Then we chose two appetisers to share (large) while we looked over the very many lovely sounding mains, deciding on one of the specials ‘lobster ravioli’ and the veal and artichoke saltimbocca. The meal was served with a basket of the lightest chargrilled bread and butter and somehow one of us managed to fit in a delicious chocolate gelato and espressos all around served with lumps of raw sugar. The only problem we had was, we wished we had found this delightful cafe at the start of our week instead of the end, so we could go every night and taste it all! You can book online and I have included a photo of their card … you will want to try this traditional Italian (with some modern flair) and experience the warmth of this place.

Old School Gem

By Holly K |

We chose Cesario’s for dinner on our last night in San Francisco. It was a block from our hotel (covered in a separate review), had many excellent reviews on Trip Advisor, and, when I looked in, reminded me of many restaurants I have been to in Sicily. The decor is eclectic but charming, and the place has a very comfortable feel with none of the pretension the newer Italian restaurants exude. We arrived on time for our reservation, were shown to a booth for four by the window, and were attended to immediately. At the suggestion of our waitress, Anna, we ordered two glasses of sparkling wine (utterly delicious) and, while studying the menu, sat watching the restaurant fill up with tourists, foreigners and regulars. The crowd included two single diners, always a good sign. We began with a side of meatballs, which Handsome Companion and I shared, and a plate of Penne Melanzane. Both were excellent and the Kalamata Olives in the penne dish were a delicious addition. For a main course, I had the Eggplant Parmigiana. It was well-constructed, with a thin layer of cheese and sauce on top and tender layers of eggplant beneath. Handsome Companion had the Tuscan Chicken, a flavorful dish featuring an array of vegetables. In addition to a very good meal, we were both impressed by how caring and attentive the waitstaff was. Anna, our waitress, seemed genuinely pleased that we were so happy with our meal. To me, that is a sure sign of a good restaurant.

Cozy restaurant with great food!

By Harveysgirl |

There were 4 of us and we were looking for a place within walking distance of our hotel on Bush St and hubby found Cesario's. It was a 5 min walk from the hotel. It is very small, quaint and quiet. The service was very good and fast. Once seated we were given fresh bread and butter and water. I started with the Spinach Pancetta Salad and the special - Lobster Ravioli and both were delicious! The Ravioli was very tender and flavorful with the Lobster. The other dishes ordered were Meat Lasagna, Chicken Parmesan and hubby had a dish with Prawns, Mussels and Scallops. It was all so good but I just couldn't finish all of mine! We ordered 1 slice of New York Cheesecake that we shared between the four of us (myself, hubby, son & his girlfriend). We will definitely eat at Cesario's on our next visit to San Francisco!

Almost Italy!

By ChrisSBS |

Felt like a family restaurant in an Italian city. Great place for dinner, 40-45 person restaurant that is charming and offered superb food with perhaps the most affordable wine list in San Francisco. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful and we all know that makes a difference. We enjoyed the veal saltimbocca and salmon piccata - for a very fair price. Price/quality is hard to beat in SF. Save room for desert. We'll come back.

Very disappointing

By mbc1993 |

Made reservation in advance which is recommended as the place was full at 6.30pm. I advised the restaurant in advance of my wife’s allergies to butter and cheese but the Maitre d’ who took our order advised that she couldn’t have any pasta dishes as they all contained cheese. He then left us and a waitress came back to take our order. She informed us that it was possible to have pasta so we ordered. However the initial impression by the maitre d ruined our evening. Conclusion don’t visit if you have allergies! Found several local places more welcoming and accommodating.

Excellent Italian Restaurant

By Ronrp56 |

Cesario's is an excellent restaurant with some novel Italian food. My wife and I had different meals and both were very good and different from normal Italian fare.

Good Italian food

By Prawet J |

The Cesario's is at the corner of Sutter St. near where we ate sushi for lunch, so we decided if we could get a table later the same night. We got a table almost right away and had a wonderful meal (we even stayed later a little). The food is real good, and the staff were helpful and attentive. I like the wine list from international places. (I learned later that the place always full so reservation is highly recommended.)

Very cosy fantastic restaurant.

By Hege J G |

This Italien restaurant was so cosy and charming I smiles thru the whole stay. The food was delisious. The service was exelent. The place was kind of small, and it was filled up when we got there. But the wibes.... I love this place ❤️👍

Fell way short of expectations

By Zachary H |

We weren’t asked about the quality of our food at the restaurant, so here we go. The Meat Lasagna was tasteless and, though I couldn’t confirm this because our waitress was nowhere to be seen, seemed to be reheated from frozen. It also had a very unappetizing quantity of cheese caked on top. Pretty gross. The Seafood Linguine was average. Like the lasagna, the seafood seemed likely to be frozen. We’re surprised this restaurant has so many good reviews. We won’t be back.

Good italian food

By LuckyPierre_11 |

Authentic Italian food at a relatively reasonable price served in a nice ambiance. It is conveniently located near Union Square. Service was friendly and not too fast. Food was very good, made fresh. Spaghetti meat balls are a classic so is the penne Bolognese with an excellent sauce. Some wine can be ordered by the glass or in half bottles. Half a bottle of Chianti Reserve is 28$. Very nice!

Limoncello Cake

By lightbydesign |

Limoncello cake! Every dish was delicious that we had this evening. The limoncello cake was beyond compare!! Moist and light.

Nice food, and gets very busy

By WoodstockJack2013 |

We didn’t book a table. Small place with limited seating but was really busy even in the early evening. It was so cosy that the table next to us was about an inch way. It was almost like being on a double date! Food was good though and service efficient.

Nice Dinner in San Francisco

We were at the restaurant for 2 times. It was next to our hotel. Simple environment but the food very delicious. Extremely polite and helpful staff. I recommend. Italian-American cuisine.

Great Dinner Service!

By Sergio M |

After all the Asian food I had the past week, I needed to venture out. Cesario's was an excellent choice. Nearby to my hotel. The carbonara was phenomenal. The service was extremely attentive, I recommend this place.

Great place!

By DGajda |

We love to go here when we are in town. It’s close to union square, and an easy walk from hotels in the area. The food is excellent and we found the staff to be friendly and efficient. The place is small (but charming) - so there might be a line to get in. Make a reservation!

Great food and service

By Lubomyr |

Ate there twice in the last week - both times for dinner - and thoroughly enjoyed this Italian restaurant. It's small and unpretentious but the food was great, the wine list more than adequate, the service very good. The second time my partner was in a wheelchair and they treated her with every kindness, which was much appreciated. I would go there again.

Italian

By Ian-and Lynley L |

Lovely Italian restaurant, great pastas, really enjoyed our 2 meals there this week. Staff very attentive. Tables are quite close and pays to book to be sure of a table.

Quaint Italian

By Richard Klein |

We visited this quaint little restaurant while on vacation in SF. The sitting is a bit tight, but that was true of everywhere we dinned in the city. We started with some Parmesan Bread which came with oils for dipping. There was plenty to share between the four of us. Everyone enjoyed there entree. I had the Chicken Piccata which great. The wine selection was good. I would recommend if you are staying in the area.

Go Here!

By Terry928 |

We’ve been to Cesario’s on previous visits to SF so knew it was good. As on previous visits, we were greeted by Alex who is charming and efficient. The restaurant is pretty, cozy and European style (close tables). Our server, Eve was outstanding! Professional, efficient and fun! The food was delicious. I had the Salmon Piccata with risotto-so flavorful and a large piece of salmon. My husband requested the salmon be prepared according to his dietary restrictions, and it was perfect. We were too full for dessert, but we ate here another night during this trip, and we had the Cannoli. OH MY GOSH it was good! The prices are pretty much in line with other decent restaurants in the area. Cesario’s is a MUST whenever we visit SF!

Tips scam?

An hour wait to get the table we had reserved The food is nothing extraordinary and check your credit card charge: they charged more than twice as many tips as we indicated on the ticket Procedure in progress with Amex…

The food was amazing , the ambience was nice and the staff were excellent. They have a great wine selection. I look forward to returning.

VERY NICE MANAGER!!!

By aquaH2Omama |

My hubby and I were waiting for someone at the Marine Memorial Hotel (next door). The restaurant had two tables outside in the shade. It was an unusually warm day. We each had a bottle of water and weren't intending to order food. My hubby asked the manager if we could sit down for a few minutes. He said yes. We tried to leave a tip, but he refused to take it. He asked us to come and eat next time. The food smelled delicious. We'll be back!!!

Fantastico restrant

My son found this restaurant when we were visiting San Francisco as a family, and we went there. When we entered the store, we were greeted by a pleasant, dapper man who seemed to be the owner. It was a bit cold outside, but this welcome really warmed us up.And the beautiful Ukrainian lady who took our order was very helpful and listened carefully to our requests. The dishes she recommended were hearty and delicious, satisfying both our hearts and our stomachs. This store made our trip to San Francisco the best it could have been. Thank you so much.

Treat yourself

By D00die |

This restaurant is a gem, we loved it so much we visited twice during our stay. Cons: Some of the seat cushions could do with refurbishment. Pros: Delicious food at reasonable prices. Range of food was good and had gluten free options. Enjoyed the wine. Not too noisy, easy to hear partner. Attentive, cheerful and efficient staff. Clean and cosy, felt like I was in Europe. Bathroom was fabulously clean.

One of the worst experience !

By JCR |

Terrible manager, food tasteless, serving Emmental instead of Parmesan, set up of table cheap with plexiglass on the tablecloth, awful services not accepting that wine was corked and trying to apply the Tip twice ! Perfect Tourist Trap !

Traditional Italian, low key service but very good food

By jerryskc |

We ate here the night before one of our party was running the SF marathon, for carb loading! It is a classic Italian I would say, the decor is fairly old fashioned and the dining room is on the small side. We made a reservation, which is probably a good idea given the compact nature of the restaurant, and were greeted efficiently, but in a somewhat unsmiling manner that is atypical of Italian restaurants in my experience. However, nothing to complain about, although this fairly taciturn service was repeated throughout the meal. This is not your boisterous, noisy Italian restaurant. At least it wasn't when we visited although, admittedly, it was very early when we sat down to dinner. It is reserved and easy to hold conversations across the table. The food is first class. Well presented, flavorsome and overall very well done. Many of the classics are represented here including many options for pasta (of course) and all of the dishes we ordered were excellent including the calamari we ordered for the table which is something of an appetizer staple, at least for us. SF is rightly infamous as one, if not the, most expensive cities in the US so easting downtown is never going to be cheap, but overall the value is there when the quality is good and here it most certainly is. Definitely worth seeking out, it sits on a street corner not far from Union Square.

Good little Italian restaurant

Delicious little Italian restaurant. We are a family with children aged 10 and 13, who also thought it was good. Simple and good quality

Quaint with Quality

Honestly we went because it was a block from our hotel, and we were dog tired from walking. Wow! We were super delighted. Great service, fair prices (esp for San Fran), good homemade Italian food and quick. If we'd had more nights in SF, we would have gone again.

Great theater dining.

Everything from our glass of wine to our entrees and in between was delicious! Friendly staff and owner. Intimate setting. We will be back!

Wish I had eaten somewhere else

The restaurant is very small. There were tables wedged into any available space: a half-round table right by the door where people waiting for a table would be in your space; a tiny table for two wedged between a wall to the kitchen and a large table. And if the food were excellent, I might consider sitting in these uncomfortable places, but no, we've had better food at Olive Garden. Seriously, we love the new Olive Garden, but you know what you're getting there and for reasonable prices. We didn't have a reservation, so we put our name on the list, and came back in 30 minutes. Our table for two was very close to other tables. It took a while for service and a lot longer to get our food because there were only two cooks. We ordered calamari and it was not good at all. But we ate some of it (the unburned pieces) because we had been waiting so long for our food and were starving. My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs which was meh. I had chicken and veggies which was meh. I don't even want to remember the name of the dish. We had slices of bread and sauces for dipping: a plain balsamic vinegar-like sauce, which was blah (I should have bought the Pomergrante Balsamic Vinegar from the Jacuzzi winery earlier in the day), an olive oil (no flavor), and a glob of pesto (was it supposed to have olive oil in it?) I was so disappointed that our last dinner in SF was so subpar. We were fooled into thinking this was an excellent restaurant based on how crowded it was, and had somewhat good reviews. We should have gone back to Sotto Mare, which had excellent food every time we've eaten there. Or we should have tried Original Joe's.

A nice place

Tired we went to this room attached to the hotel. We ate a plate of pasta with well-cooked salmon and a very well-made dessert. In our opinion a good local with a good quality / price ratio. We recommend it to those in the area.

Cozy and Delicious

Stayed next door at Marines Memorial Club and visited Cesario's for both breakfast and lunch. Intimate setting on corner with some window tables. Extensive menu. Soups, Salads, and pasta dishes were well executed and delicious. Highly recommend the minestrone, meatballs, and spumoni ice cream. Service a bit slow but fruendly. Would return if in area.

Good choice in the local area

Close to many theaters and parking lots. Not a big seating area but has a sense still of intimacy. Many options on the menu, from salads to entrees (fish and pasta especially). Go early and not too busy, or you could wait later in a quick small waiting area (so reservations advised). Friendly and attentive service.

Recommended for a nice evening

Absolutely delicious food, lovely atmosphere and nice service. The portions could perhaps be a bit bigger. It's worth a visit. We were lucky with a free table, but reservations may be necessary.

Wonderful Italian dining experience in San Francisco!

Having read the reviews, my family and I decided to try this restaurant for dinner to celebrate my Dad's birthday. We arrived there about 7.30pm on a Friday evening, and the restaurant was already full. Of note, the restaurant is small, and is only able to accommodate up to 49 people. Some of the tables were really close to each other. We didn't have a reservation but the maitre d' told us there will be a table available in 15 mins, and indeed, true to his word, we were ushered to the banquet table by the door shortly. There were quite a few people who turned up after us who were also seated quickly as the turnover seems to be rather efficient. Our server, Hannah, was absolutely lovely. We had the soup of the day, clam chowder, to start. The consistency of the soup was just right and it was delicious, served along with the bread with a trio of dips (olive oil, balsamic vinegar and pesto). For mains, we had the spaghetti with meatballs, lobster ravioli and pappardelle pescatore. The pasta was silky and smooth, and there was a generous amount of seafood with the pappardelle. The filling of the ravioli was smooth but not overly processed so you could still taste the lobster. We were too full to try the dessert, but overall, the meal was one of the highlights of our stay in San Francisco.I would definitely recommend that you try this place if you have the opportunity. Might be wise to make a reservation though. Thank you to the team at Cesario's for the wonderful experience!

Nah, Take a pass on this place.

We went for desserts but wish we had gone somewhere else. First of all, I called before going and the waiter was rude and short. Secondly, there was a huge wait and some chaos going on. Lastly, the desserts were only mediocre. For the price and the hassle, we wish we had done something else. Not a great experience at all. We got the tiramisu and lemon cake.
