My friends and I decided to try out Chant while staying in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. Both the host and server recommended the Sambal catfish, and it certainly did not disappoint. Served with salt pork black beans, a house coleslaw and a sriracha sauce, it was just the right amount of spicy and savory. The fish was moist and cooked to perfection. We were served quickly, and the staff was friendly. We would go back!

I have fallen in love with this small, cozy, friendly neighbourhood restaurant. It is in the heart of busy Hyde Park. I have gone there with friends several times. I have tried something different each time and I must say, everything was delicious! My favourite is the sambal fried catfish and coleslaw. Soooo good. The food is a southern Asian flair. The lamb chops were juicy and tender. They have a band on Friday and Saturday evenings about 7:00. I usally park in the parking lot East of the restaurant., two hours for $5:00.. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Most of all the prices are fair. The also have a full bar. I would definitely recommend Chant for dinner.

One favorite places to go when I don't want to travel downtown. Excellent for hanging solo, with girlfriends or with hubby. Friday and Saturday is the best value. You get to see a live band while enjoying the best Martinis for a great value. It's quickly becoming a hot spot to Thursday- Saturday but I love the ease and the friendly spirited atmosphere. I've never had a bad visit and it's where the staff knows you and glad you came.

I love Chant! Their pad see ew is astoundingly good, and for a higher range, nicer place, it's still very reasonable in pricing. I've had their cocktails as well and they're excellent.

Nice atmosphere, I had a spinach, mushroom and tofu dish. They had unusual, salads, soups and entrees, both meat and vegetarian dishes

This Asian fusion restaurant is a gem in Hyde Park. Amazing martinis, food, and atmosphere!

Not sure how to describe the food- Thai,Polynesian,Pacific islands. But you MUST try the turkey basil rolls with hoisin sauce! Absolute foodie heaven. I'm sure other smal plates are great, but we just can't pass up the turkey basil rolls. The mojitos are also outstanding. Street parking available if you drive around a bit. Worth the parking hassle.

Time to try a different Hyde Park restaurant. Chant has an Asian theme, which will reduce our future visits to Chinatown, I suspect. The crab cakes were delicious, and the Jambalaya was as good as I've ever had. Service was crisp and friendly, and the sound level was tolerable. We'll visit again.

I stumbled upon this restaurant when searching for a place for my family's graduation celebration. I've seen Chant many times but never checked it out. And I'm so glad that I did. The ambiance was pleasant, the service excellent, and the food delicious. We had lobster rangoon and barbecued chicken wings for appetizers -- in fact, we ordered a second helping of the rangoon -- what a big hit! The main courses included seafood gumbo, pesto chicken breasts, and a lobster roll. Everything was superb. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I am still seated with my family, on Sunday there is no music on, Which is perfect for kids. It's all very nice, clean and friendly. Nothing to add!

I've never been disappointed by a meal. The drinks are A1. I really enjoy the wings and duck tacos. They have live entertainment throughout the week as well. Good, fast service.

Came here on my own, killing time (and hungry after a long walk along the shore) while my worser half was in a meeting. The waiter was welcoming and helpful. I cannot abide a waiter who has no opinions about what they serve - “everything’s good;” “it depends what you like” makes me homicidal - and this guy had opinions. And they were good opinions! Why yes, I DID enjoy the cucumber martini, and the shrimp/avocado quesadilla turned out to be exactly what I was hungry for. I took avocado rolls to go for DH, and he reckoned they were the best he’d ever had. So yeah, I look forward to going back.

I've been a customer of Chant since it's initial opening. Last night experienced DJ night for the first time. DJ Vic was outstanding!! The food service was the worst I've ever experienced at Chant. To accommodate DJ night appetizers are on the menu. There is no table service which you're not told when seated. You sit until you figure it out. Then you go to the counter to place your order and run back and forth to pick it up hoping it is ready. Had to go to the counter three times before the food was ready. Customer notification system is definitely needed. The person at the counter appeared overwhelmed. Drinks were not the best. Thank you DJ Vic for making up for what was lacking in service. Great concept for Chant but improvement is needed.

We have a home in Hyde Park and really love this place. Great food. We enjoy eating there off hours at the bar.

My son and I were walking around the Hyde Park area from our hotel by the south lake shore. We stopped into Chant to cool off and have some appetizers. We were not disappointed. The Lobster Rangoon was delicious! I would say it was my definite favorite of the three things we tried. The atmosphere here was great, and the service was friendly. When we told our waitress where we had walked from, she gave us each a to-go cup of ice water for our trek back to the hotel. She was absolutely awesome. Very fun visit here for us on our first night for the second time in Chicago and our first time ever in the Hyde Park area. Loved it!

This is my favorite restaurant in Hyde Park. It has a good menu for a very good price and also has outstanding martinis. Try the orange martini. Good coconut shrimp, pad tai, and soups...also a great oriental cobb salad. Big portions. There is outdoor seating in good weather but it is on the South side and therefore shady side of street at lunchtime. So pick a warm day if you want to sit outside. I gave this a 5 star (although it is up scale dinning) because of the overall value for the $ and good menu, well prepared.

Dinner with friends. We all ordered something different. Everything was delicious. There was a live band playing that evening and they were really good. Great place to people watch and just enjoy the company of friends. This is my second time visiting in two two years and the restaurant is never disappointing. Even though it seems like it is a Chinese Restaurant, they have a wide variety of items on the menu that would please anyone. For example, I was surprised to see fried chicken, shrimp & grits, and calamari to name a few on the menu.

We had dinner here on a weeknight while staying at the Hyatt Place just around the corner. The wait staff was very attentive, brought water quickly, and graciously answered our questions about menu items. We ordered Lobster Rangoon for an appetizer which came very quickly, piping hot and delicious. We ordered Pad Thai with chicken and Bibimbop for our entrees. The entrees also came quickly, nice and hot, generous portions. Our server checked in with us often to see if everything was to our liking and if we needed anything. The restaurant was full and was a bit loud but not so loud that we couldn't hear each other. The bill was very affordable - about $10 - $12 per item. There are numerous restaurants in this area and Chant is well worth a visit.

The catfish with Mac n cheese was Amazing. The only thing I didn't care for was 18% gratuity automatically added. It was well worth it though..

I’m so sad I didn’t take a picture but the food was amazing! The atmosphere was awesome and chill. 🤗

We've 0ast this by many times but this was our fisr visit. Very clean and the staff was very pleasant. Our food was very delicious. The garlic cilantro fries were a very nice change from the norm, especially using fresh garlic. The lamb chops were also very good. The fried chicken was exceptional along with the sides. Our server Gerardo was so very pleasant and has a wonderful demeanor. He made our experience even that much better. And I love the decor! Differently would come back!

I hate to write a negative review given how few dining options are in Hyde Park. However, this is the second subpar experience I've had at Chant. We ordered the Mango Shrimp Salad and got the attention of our waiter after noticing the mangos were frozen. The waiter claimed that they are "fresh", but took the dish back. A few moments later, the general manager, Aldo Rojas, came out and immediately states that we ate more than half the dish, which was not close to the truth (we thought he must've seen the wrong dish). Aldo then disputes everything we say or suggest and states that the mangos are stored at 30 degrees F (which explains why they were frozen). He also went as far as bringing the dish back out as though he was trying to prove some moot point. As a manager, whose supposedly been there for some time, I would expect some intent to resolve a customer's negative experience, but that doesn't seem to be the case. He also claimed that there was no one to complain to about him. We decided to pay our bill and leave, since they weren't willing to remake the salad, with or without mangos. After this experience, I definitely won't be returning and don't recommend Chant at all.

Smooth Jazz, soulful filling meal and martini's that tingle the palate a must visit place heard a vocalist Judy Hardieway performing that evening it was freezing cold in the Windy City as a native you just layer up in warm clothes and enjoy the evening hoping they bring her back soom she was amazing.....

This restaurant is a favorite and would have gotten a 4 star review, but the service on my most recent visit was horrible. We finally had to flag someone down to order and took advantage by ordering drinks and dinner at the same time so we wouldn't lose our server again. I had the blackened redfish, which was great, and my companion had the shrimp and grits. She is from the south, and very picky, and she said it was the best shrimp and grits she'd ever had. Martinis, as always, were delicious.

Unique menu with good Thai flavours on common foods. As an example I had a turkey burger with Thai flavouring and eggplant fries. The pumpkin soup warm starter was good as well. The place may look a little low class from the outside but inside it is a cool designed restaurant. There is even a patio out front. Thr wait staff was friendly, patient and knowledgeable. On this ocassion I happened to get a FourSquare discount thanks to American Express.

Extensive menu with options for all types. Fusion cuisine with small plates and entrees. Good for small groups, couples and family. Great atmosphere and a nice spot in Hyde Park. recommend this place.

We have been going to the Court Theater for plays this year, always looking for pre/post meals options in Hyde Park. After reading the reviews, we were hoping this place would be great. However, it was very disappointing. It was an interesting menu and had the food been executed properly could have been a home run. I also found their wine list very mediocre - with all the pan-Asian, eclectic favors, there were opportunities to have interesting wines to match the food....our server didn't seem to be well-versed, especially when asked questions about gluten-free options. Looks like we will still be looking for a restaurant since we have season tickets at the Court Theater next year....

I loved this place and loved there rice. The service was great although it was slow that night, however I have no doubt that it would have been any different. I plan to go back as soon as I hit Chicago again!

My wife treated me for dinner at Chant. We were immediately seated. Our waitress came to our table within minutes. We didn't have to wait long for our food. My wife ordered chicken, mashed potatoes and corn. I ordered shrimp pai Thai. My wife said she enjoyed her meal. I enjoyed mine. Our waitress check on us a couple of times during the meal. Before tip, our dinner was only $35.00. The food, service and price were all good. We will definitely be back.

My overall critique is that of the dishes I tried there was too much sauce and its killed the flavors. I ordered the duck tacos, gyozas, drunken noodles and stir fry veggies. The noodles and veggies were pretty good, through the drunken noodle sauce didn't quite taste right. The duck tacos were okay but - too much sauce, a good sauce but it overpowered everything. The gyozas I just couldn't eat. I threw them away after one bite. The sauce they were practically drowned in made the whole thing unappetizing.

While scheduling an appointment for my mother I reconnected with a neighborhood friend I hadn’t seen in over 30yrs! She invited me to join them for a birthday celebration of another mutual friend. We met at Chant and over our lunch caught up, laughed and reminisced about our parents and neighborhood. We had appetizers, cocktails and lunch. The food was delicious, the cocktails pretty and refreshing and our meals were very good too! Afterwards they walked the Hyde Park area to enjoy the cold weather and do some shopping. This was the perfect venue for our first reunion.

We were a part of five that went to Chant on a Saturday evening for an early dinner. The decor is simple with wood being used throughout the site. We were seated in the front in a large booth with an additional bench. The table was large and comfortable. The atmosphere was pleasant and easy for conversation. We were staying at the nearby Hyatt Place and this was an easy two block walk. Everyone had a different meal. From Pan-Asian items to southern fried chicken and mashed potatoes, everyone was happy. The coconut shrimp was a nice appetizer. Others enjoyed the spicy/sweet wings. Drinks were nicely made. The server was pleasant and attentive. All in all, a great place for a nice dinner

Saw this place on a Facebook post. Food and atmosphere is great. Live music was amazing as well as the service. I would definitely recommend this place for couples up to a group of 4 to go eat. Not necessarily for a large group because the restaurant is small. Also, food is reasonably priced, which is always a plus.

Would recommend for a moderately priced intimate dinner . Avocado rolls were awesome! Wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive.

Great attentive service and wonderful food Generous portions. We will be back to try all of the items on the menu.

This restaurant offers much more than expected. The menu is not what you would find in your mothers kitchen. The dishes are original compilations of a variety of influences and techniques. The ingredients are fresh and care and concern is clearly given to the food. The dishes are well seasoned but not overdone or over processed. There is nothing pretentious about it. I had the curry chicken. It was very well seasoned. it wasn't like the Carribean or Indian variety of curry chicken but it was definitely faithful to both and neither tradition. It was simply curry chicken done well. The fried rice was excellent. The veggies and rice were cooked perfectly. The food was so satisfying that we decided to go back Saturday night. We were pleasantly shocked and surprised to find the club had morphed into a house music club spot with alive dj. The crowd was nice and the music was authentic Chicago house. I had just mentioned that one cannot do Chicago without taking in some hot chicago house music. It was right on time and Chant provided the perfect vibe for such. I will definitely be back. The food, atmosphere and vibe were all enjoyable.

My cousin and I visited Chant Restaurant located on the main drag in Chicago's Hyde Park district. The food was spicy but very good. We ordered coconut shrimp, fried vegetable rice, butternut squash soup and a curried shrimp dish. Our one complaint was having an inattentive waitress. After serving our drinks, she was slow to return to the table to take our order. We found ourselves flagging passing waitstaff for service during our meal. Despite communicating that we needed our check promptly (because we were parked at a meter), we finally had to approach the bar to pay the bill. Our waitress re-appeared at this point, but ignored the bartender, who reiterated our need to cash out immediately. The bartender shrugged to acknowledge her passive-aggressive behavior. We ended up following our waitress to the hostess desk to receive our change. Our waitress made no attempt to apologize for neglecting us throughout the meal. We had no idea why she seemed to be in a bad mood as we had been polite throughout our visit. We left her tip with the hostess and indicated that we were leaving a "poor tip for poor service."

We were last here a couple of years ago on the way to the Court theater (10% discount with tickets) and found the food merely OK. So when our friends suggested Chant, we said an unenthusiastic yes. We arrived a little late for our reservation but were greeted warmly and gotten out in plenty of time for the show. The menu had many items marked "New". Everything we ordered was delicious. The calamari were outstanding -- and the sauce! The Gumbo was yummy and the cornbread that came with it was buttery and lightly jalapenoed. The Oriental cobb salad was terrific. The short ribs were top notch. Good beer and wine choices. We asked the owner or manager whether there was a new chef, since the food was so special. And there is. Can't wait for the next excuse to get to Hyde Park.

This was our first trip to Chicago and we ate out the entire week. Every other place we ate we had some what of a wait but at Chant we got right in and the food and service was wonderful. I think I might have spilled the beans on some "locals" secret!

Eclectic menu choices. The food was very good and served in generous portions. The wait staff was attentive and helpful

This is an incredible restaurant that looks Asian but serves the food as a standard Western dishes. We had the gyoza's which were spicy and delicious. They were a starter and we shared these as there must have been 20 gyoza's in the bowl. Main course we had a cruchie Cashew chicken, served with jasmine rice and the lamb lollipop chops. This was served with mash potato. The portions again we're huge and so tasty you had to try to finish them. Cocktails are served and you should try them. There was live music but we missed this on the way out. High recommended, go hungry.

This restaurant was recommended by our concierge. Wow! What a GrEaT recommendation. Some of the most AmAzInG Lobster Bisque, Crab Cakes, Catfish and Shrimp and Grits ever! Very attentive servers and live music the Friday night I was there. Can't wait to try the desserts we brought home!

Love the decor & neighborhood, yummy interesting fusion blend of food, good service. The hostess was strangely cold & unfriendly both when we came & when we left, but oh well. We came from an event that already fed us some food but I still wanted to come and check out Chant. We saw another table having this and so also ordered the Pad Thai - pretty good & a good amount. I got the fried Catfish which came highly recommended & it was cooked nicely. It was supposed to be spicy but needed much more heat for me so I asked for hot sauces. Our server Amanda was very good. Lots of interesting drinks... A live band was setting up when we were leaving so its a nice way to spend a Saturday night with music here!

Chant has a very interesting menu and the food is very tasty. We came in for lunch and had the duck tacos and drunken noodles which were both excellent. The prices were reasonable and the service was very fast and friendly.

we had reservations but opted for a booth instead We were told we could move bit the busboy snapped on us After all that got settled. The food was very good the shrimp and grits were amazing. service was slow

I like to support neighborhood places, and the food at Chant is good. But I'll only go there in the summer when I can sit outside, because the noise level is ridiculous.

I simply love this place...I can come for lunch or dinner or later night..Food is always fresh and delicious and Friday and Saturday live bands are always great.

We loved our dinner at Chant. Excellent wine and spirits menu with interesting fusion (Thai, Cajun, American favorites) combination of small plates and large plates. Our waiter, Juan, is a perfect combination of caring, kindness and professionalism. Thank you! We enjoyed the Avocado Roll for a starter and then the Lobster and Shrimp Etouffee & the Jambalaya as our entrees. Delicious.

My spouse, myself, along with a friend had dinner at Chant before attending a play on February 18, 2012. It was our second time to dine at Chant. We found our experience enjoyable. The restaurant is located in the Hyde Park area of Chicago. The staff was welcoming, friendly, and seemed eager to attend to us. The surroundings were pleasant and comfortable. The menu, at least for us, was intriguing. It contained traditional items but they were prepared with a definite and distinctive Asian influence. All three of us enjoyed what we ordered which included the short ribs, Wahoo, and Chant pad thai. All were tasty and were presented in an attractive manner. I am sure we will return to the restaurant again in the near future.

We were looking for a spot for lunch after visiting the Robie House and the University of Chicago. We choose Chant and are glad we did. It was a nice walk from the Robie House and gave us an opportunity to see the Hyde Park neighborhood. At first, I was put off by the single page laminated menu but was quickly impressed with the knowledgeable and friendly server. The place is comfortable and clean and very welcoming to diners. There were many fresh and creative lunch choices. I enjoyed a tasty chicken salad - fresh ingredients and delicious dressing. The standout was the avocado roll. Great value as well. There is nothing fancy or pretentious here - just good food, well prepared at an honest price.

We decided to try the restaurant because it had some vegan options. For a starter we had the butternut squash soup which was very good. For the entree we had the pasta with vegetables and tofu. It was good but needed some heat so the waitress brought some hot sauce. The house mojito was not that enjoyable to me. We found free parking across the street from the restaurant on a Sunday evening.

Food was decent. Staff was friendly and the drinks were very good. This is a nice restaurant and I would return.

I visited here recently craving some Asian food because I had just gotten back from China. Funny because I am not the biggest fan of Asian food but it hit me that day... and even though I'm not crazy about Asian food, I would frequent this place if I lived in the area because of the varied menu. They had a really eclectic menu and I just couldn't resist their duck tacos. A little on the spicy but thats just how I like it. They also feature eggplant fries which are really unique and exceptionally good in my opinion. I head they have an award winning chicken curry recipe as well. The bar was really fun and the atmosphere was perfect. Great for large crowds of friends all coming in at the same time because they are very accommodating!

THe BEST food I’ve ever had. Actually dined lunch and dinner just to try other things on the menu. Customer service was second to none. Ate salmon, shrimp and grits, rolls the first time and it was to die for. Recommend this place!!!!!!!!! What a great experience. Walking distance to both hotels in Hyde Park.

This is one of our must visit when we are at our home in Hyde Park. With an interesting menu full of tasty food it is a real treat. Prices are reasonable. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I enjoy a good strong drink and they surpass my expectations. They even have quirky, fun specialty drinks. I highly recommend Chant.

Chant offers a varied menu to suit any tasty and dietary needs. The atmosphere is upscale and relaxed. The service is good.

This fusion restaurant is a much-needed addition to the neighborhood, with a lively, colorful vibe and a great menu. I liked the gyoza, the udon, and the pad thai, although their sushi is also really good. They have an eclectic variety of drinks as well. Prices are slightly on the higher end, but this is a change from the usual pubs and bars, and the food's well worth it.

Dined here with the family. Ordered the catfish, u-don noodles, turkey and basil wraps, quesadillas and salmon burger. Good comfort food and there’s something on the menu for everyone.

Great restaurant in Hyde Park neighborhood near the University of Chicago...I was in town for business and saw the reviews. Boy am I glad I stopped in! Delicious drinks...poured generously by the bar tender. I ordered wings with some sort of thai sauce, I wish I had taken a picture but they looked so good I just dived in! Apparently, they are a popular spot for their wings. I had the lollipop lamb chops for my entree. It came with green beans and mashed potatoes. My only complaint was that my food came out lukewarm however my server graciously took it back to have it warmed up. If you are ever on the Southside venture over to this cute little spot! You won't regret it !

Very very cute. In Hyde Park, it's almost out of place. The food is good, not great, but I was happy with what I ate: lobster rangoon was a nice switch on the old crab rangoon standby. And my duck flautas were crispy and deliciously fatty- they went very well with the orange-cilantro chutney. My entree was the asian ratatouille strudel. I'm not sure where the asian part comes in, tasted pretty much like a ratatouille strudel, but it was also pretty good. And the vegetarian and chicken entrees aren't expensive, it's only when you start ordering fish or steak that the price creeps up. It's the decor that makes this new Hyde Park spot a winner: the new mod faux asian furnishings make the ambiance, a Hyde Parker just gazes around with an open mouth. The fact that it has a bar, and I hear live music and a DJ some nights means that we have a new unique nightspot in the neighborhood, that doesn't fall into the regular bar niche. Is there dancing? That would be fab. I'll come back and see.

Great drinks, nice crowd and good food. Smaller place so you will get good service. Wife had Chant T Bone Steak wasabi mashed potato, spinach very flavorful. I had the Szechwan Beef Noodles good but not as flavorful as the steak. Great for date night and with friends!

Normally Chant doesn't accept large groups, however, Aldo went out of his way to accommodate my university class of about 25 for lunch by pre-ordering their choices. The menu offered interesting choices and the food lived up to the descriptions. Everyone was happy with their meal--the speed of delivery, the amount of food, quality and flavor. I couldn't ask for more.

When other restaurants were closed or too long of a wait for 6 of us, at Chant we were seated quickly, had a bit of a wait for the menus, but food was delivered quickly. Many unique entries and eats. All enjoyed their plates.

Absolutely amazing food and atmosphere. The staff was very friendly. We stayed for three nights and the first night couldn’t decide what we wanted so we went back all three nights and was never disappointed! The food was amazing and we were very pleased with the service. Portion size is great as well, you will not leave hungry! Great place and we will definitely go back!

Amazingly there aren't many restaurants that serve dinner in the area. We were visiting UC Hospital and tired of cafeteria lunch food. We tried this restaurant based on Yelp reviews and hotel concierge's suggestion. Not bad. Service was very good. Interesting menu. Not bad, but taste rather bland and sweet. My curry had no bite. Peking duck taco was sweet, thanks to hoisin source. Hot and sour soup needs a wedge of lime or lemon. Nonetheless foods were good.

We had a group of about 20 people in a long table. The service was superb. The food was delicious. First time there. Plan to return. `

Delicious food with tastes & combinations a little off the beaten path. They have an outside dining area on the sidewalk, which gets a fair amount of traffic, but affords excellent people watching opportunities.

Everything looks fabulous, but our favorite is turkey basil rolls with hoisin sauce. Also great mojitos. A great place before U of C concerts. Parking is difficult but worth it.

We had an amazing experience!!! NOT only was the food great, spicy, flavorful, and seasoned to perfection.....The restaurant was decorated well with color, texture, and art. There was a 3 piece jazz band playing some cool tunes. Wonderful atmosphere, friendly and professional servers. THE SHRIMP AND GRITS & CRUSTED CRAB CAKES.....SO GOOD. It was my first time there...BUT NOT MY LAST

Chant aspires to be an upscale restaurant. It has an “executive chef,” nice décor, and a classy looking menu. But after eating there a couple of times, I’m afraid I don’t know what it is aspiring to. Some have described the menu as Asian fusion, possibly because some of the dishes have an Asian inspiration. But others have nothing to do with Asian cuisine – tacos, fried chicken, a variety of fish dishes. That doesn’t make it bad. It just makes it confusing. As a previous reviewer wrote, the food is just mediocre. A pumpkin curry soup was under seasoned (perhaps as a sign of excessive self-confidence, there are no salt and pepper shakers on the tables), and the mole chicken was dry, lacking in mole sauce, and fairly tasteless. The waiter agreed and brought me something he called “Asian mole,” which left me stumped – I thought mole was Mexican. Prices are reasonable; all but a few entrees are under $20. We need more nice restaurants in Hyde Park and I’d like Chant to succeed. But they should work on clarifying their menu and improving the food preparation.

I had an incredible experience dining midday at Chant. The pear martini is delicious and very strong. They soak the pears in vodka for several hours so the drink really packs a punch. We had a variety of appetizers but the standout were the onion rings. They batter was light and delicious with a savory, spicy dipping sauce. I had their version of a Cobb salad and it was also good and the ginger dressing is delicious. Everything looked as beautiful as it tastes and the atmosphere is nice and comfortable. I felt like I had stepped out of the busy city of Chicago into a sanctuary.

My party of 4 tried several of the appetizers/small plates. The food was good but the service was not that great. Prices were reasonable.

The menu calls the eclectic menu World cuisine. To me it seemed to have an asian bent, but then had things like Ribs on the menu. The corn chowder was awful and we sent it back. It weirdly tasted like Vinegar. The Salmon was order by 2 in our party and delicious. A lively crowd was in the restaurant and we waited 25 minutes to be seated. Service was quick and efficient. Would probably go back, but it is not Asian.

Barbecue salmon crisps, salmon and grits, shrimp plate, crispy chili chicken, pekin duck tacos, salmon wonton raviolis (filled with large pillows of salmon PILLOWS!), and the warm lobster roll were the dishes that my cohorts and I enjoyed and oh my did we enjoy them. The ravioli was decadent and the lobster roll divine and the duck tacos were close to being the most perfect bite ever. The flavors of every dish were really spot on and I haven't had such an enjoyable meal for a while. The service was also great. Nadia was our server and she was friendly and pleasant. Would definitely go again next time I'm in Chicago!

Lettuce cups I have had better. Stir fried vegetables were drenched in oil and tasted like the pan. I did not enjoy my meal at all. The place looks good. Maybe try something different. Not my favorite place by any means.

My son and I were staying in Hyde park and we both loved chant. We shared 3 small plates and they were all delicious, especially the chant prawns. Service was quick and polite. We will definitely return.

This Asian fusion restaurant in Hyde Park, a two-minute walk from the Hyatt hotel, turned out to be a gem. It has fewer tables than you’d at first think walking in, which meant a 10 minute wait. That turned out to be the only downside. Service was attentive the right way. All three of us ordered different entrees, and we each loved what we got (duck soft tacos, chicken curry, glazed salmon), and what the others got after tastings around the table. The samosa appetizers were also excellent (perhaps a touch over-fried). I wouldn’t get the shrimp rolls again as they were only so-so (compared to the Thai restaurants we usually eat at). The drink menu (which I normally peruse but don’t order) was enticing enough to make me debate choices. I eventually settled on a dark and stormy which, made with real Bermudian ginger beer and rum, were every bit as good as those I’ve had there. Definitely will eat here again.

Many Asian dishes plus some southern recipes. Good technical execution, well spiced, and it is in a lively, beautiful decor. It is close to public transport- trains and buses. Also, there is street parking. And they have a full bar.

Chant is a fascinating Asian fusion plus Creole restaurant. Quality is very good in both cuisines. I had Jambalaya which had a generous portion of Shrimp in a tangy but not too hot sauce, and a lovely Shrimp appetizer with Cilantro and Jalapeño peppers. Others in my party enjoyed their dishes too. Friendly and efficient service. Good wine selection too.

This place has great drinks and a nice variety of tapas and larger meals. In the warmer months, it is fun to sit outside but the inside also has great atmosphere.

We arrived from a long overseas flight and it was open late. They cheerfully served us delicious food!

This is a great spot in Hyde Park to go. Very interesting and diverse menu. Very friendly staff. Not my favorite place in the city, but one of my favorites in the neighborhood.

They double-billed my debit card $213.73 which led to a succession of overdraft fees. Spoke to management back & forth until finally I just explained the situation to my bank. They emailed me a dispute form, which I completed & returned. The money was eventually returned to my account. Chant management didn't compensate me for the overdrafts, and the pure frustration that this event caused me. Chant management refused to comp me my next meal there. My suggestion to any and everyone is to save your money and yourself a lot of frustration. I say this because this double billing happened once before there. That time they caught the error while charges were still pending but not this time. I refuse to spend any more money there at Chant. DROP THE MIKE & go somewhere else!

I love this place!!! Martinis are great!! Food is delicious!! Service is outstanding!! I've been 3 times this month and will definitely be going back! Next time, I'll be there for the live music.

Awesome food and ambience. Fast efficient service. Phenomenal band!Has become one of our favorite places to go to for a night out

Everything was great in the beginning. Ordered Shrimp and Grits, Roast beef and Orange chicken. Food was excellent. Then ordered Carrot Cake for my 85 year old Mom. When it came, we cut it 3 ways. The cake was stale. We put the portions back on the plate and sent it back. I then asked for brownie. They were out. I finally asked for the chocolate lava cake. It, too, tasted old. We ate a portion and was ready to check out. The waitress included the $8.00 stale cake on our tab. When I complained the manager showed up with the returned portions and said since we ate part of it, he refused to take it off the bill! I could not believe what I was hearing from this upscale restaurant! Our bill was $87 plus for three people. I was prepared to pay the kind waitress at least a $15.00 tip. Since the manager was "stuck on stupid", I paid the exact amount and saved my $15.00. I hated to stiff the waitress but I refused to be stiffed with the stale desert.

Chant is small to medium in size. We visited on an early Monday evening, which was a good time to come. There is a small bar with about 6 bar stools, along with tables & booths nicely arranged throughout the eatery. Rashad, our server was helpful with food & wine recommendations. Our entrees arrived quite quickly, warm & smelling good. Portion sizes were just right for our smaller appetites. Others may fine the portion sizes small or even skimpy. My mom's entree was a short rib, so tender the beef fell off bone. The mash potatoes were lumps-free, with a healthy spoonful of brown gravy & delicious grilled miniature carrots.... tasty! My salmon was cooked medium & was accompanied by jasmine rice mixed with tomatoes & spicy scallions, along with three grilled asparagus - very good! Two glasses of Chardonnay was a great choice to compliment our meal. Two nice size Apple dumplings with vanilla ice cream, drizzled with a Carmel sauce was absolutely scrumptious! One was plenty for us & my mom took the other home. Overall, very nice eatery in Hyde Park-the perfect blend of the ambience of an upscale restaurant yet casual & very affordable. Rashad is an exemplary example of the 'perfect' server: personable yet friendly, not timid about sharing recommendations or offering opinions on food choices. I love love love that in a server! Kudo's to Chants for employing a gem like Rashad! More servers like him, or if all servers are similar, the business will continue to thrive! I will recommend to others & return when I visit Chicago next month!

We go back here repeatedly with friends either for lunch or before Court theater. The menu never disappoints and all we have taken here are pleased. Excellent Pad Thai, Tai chicken soup, coconut chicken and first rate cocktails. Don't miss the orange vodka martini. The best!

though it presents as pan asian, the menu is far more diverse than that. Plenty of vaguely thai, chinese, etc but also staples like fried chicken and catfish. Coupled with extensive cocktail list that was executed well and you have a recipe for a great little neighborhood place. Their is better asian fair within a few blocks, but, this is a high energy and broadly enjoyable menu.

Just mediocre, in all respects. A well-done steak was undercooked. A drink was mixed less than professionally. Or perhaps just not to my taste.

I went to this restaurant with very high expectations and left disappointed. The bus boy was more attentive than our waitress. Where do we start - alot of the items on the menu were not available - for appetizers we ordered the garlic fries (overcooked and limp with jarred garlic) calamari (so so) and the Chant Shrimp Plate tempura style (ok, but way to greasy). My daughter wanted the Sambal Fried Catfish but I asked the waitress was it spicy because my daughter has a sensitive palate for spicy foods, apparently the waitress was knowledgeable regarding menu items. My daughter went with the orange chicken which also turned out to be spicy {insert pissed off emoji}. So I ordered the Pad See Ew for my daughter and I - which was disgusting (doughy noodles and a ton of soy sauce). My cousin order the short tib dinner which actually was pot roast. Two bites in my daughter's food she discovered broken egg shells in her food. I asked for the manager immediately, the manager removed the charge of the dish. With the bad experience we had I couldn't justify spending $75 for a meal that was left on the table. Needless to say we will find other restaurants to dine at for our annual girls day out.

Colleagues selected this restaurant and I decided to go solely because I saw duck tacos on the menu. They did not disappoint! Very flavorful and delicious, as was the cherry martini I had. Although food was good I'm not sure I'd go back and sit there and eat as the place was loud and it was hard to have a conversation. Cute decor though. Since the ambiance wasnt my style I wouldnt dine in again but I would definitely do takeout.

EVERYTHING we had was fabulous. Hot N Sour Fish soup, Chicken Skewers, Steak and Shrimp Big Plate and Macadamia Mahi Mahi then finished off with Rice Pudding. Well Done! All Gluten Free and All Fabulous.

Their Thai, chicken soup is amazing - ask for a side of rice to add to it. Also, a must have is their Curried Shrimp small plate. It's enough for a meal and tastes fabulous. I wish they'd open another restaurant in the suburbs.

Stopped in for Dinner. Place was busy but got a table right in front of the band. Drinks and Food were very good. Enjoyed a Blues Band until 9PM.

Went with my family while moving my daughter out of the UChicago dorms. Had the fried catfish which was awesome. They accommodated my need to stay away from pork with a substitute of delicious spinach. I would highly recommend!

Great restaurant with amazing food. I had the catfish and it was amazing. Will definitely go back. Restaurant is kinda small, but quick service.

Happened to be down in Hyde Park for a visit, and found this delightful place. Some very good Thai food in a comfortable setting. The Chicken soup was particularly tasty. Service was friendly and prompt. Check it out when you're in Hyde Park.

The menu looks great and we were anticipating a nice meal. Two of the four shrimp on the appetizer plate were raw, the pork soup had lots of vegetables and rice in but the flavor was lacking. The duck tacos were nice but not much duck inside. The halibut was nice in presentation and flavor. The shrimp with lobster saw was also a nice flavor and presentation. one person order sake and the glass had lipstick on it. The server was nice and efficient. Possibly worth a second try

The choices are great. Big plates small plates. They have a different dish for any type of pallet. It sits right on 53rd and on the patio has a view of everything the neighborhood offers. Good drinks as well. Even ran into some good friends.

Um, um good
I've patronized this place several times. The food is consistently tasty and the presentation is excellent. My favorite menu item is the lobster rangoon. The fried rice is excellent but they charge $8 to add shrimp.
