If you're in Oak Cliff lookin for a good steak this prolly the best you will find. Great pricing, decent staff and modest atmosphere. Not one of the classier places you will find but the food makes up for that. They do close early so get there early.

I have been eating at “The Cow” for almost 40 years. It’s like going back in time to diner style steakhouses of the 1960’s. It’s been here since 1963. My go to meal is the chopped steak with baked potato, Texas Toast and salad for under 9 bucks. If you’re expecting III Forks or Bobs Chop House, this ain’t it. But if you’re looking for a delicious char-broiled steak or chicken breast, this is the place. True Oak Cliff History.

We had awesome ribeyes with baked potatoes and bread. The steaks were really good, and the potatoes were delicious. I had a sweet potato with butter and cinnamon. My son had a regular potato with sour cream and cheese toppings. The steaks were cooked just right. Very tasty. The drinks were ok, and the service was better than expected. The place is in a "lively" area but we never felt uncomfortable. Two beautiful ribeyes with potatoes and drinks came to $37. Quite a bargain. Friendly, efficient staff.

I love ribeyes. That is my favorite type of steak to order when I visit a $$ to $$$$ steak house. I really like this place that is not located in a fancy area. However, I see remodeling and changes occurring. In my opinion, it serves good food for the type of establishment and price range it is. There is nothing fancy about it. It is what I call a homey hole in the wall place. Where I can get a good simple grilled steak, baked potato, salad and texas toast not loaded with a bunch of seasonings. Their cakes and pies are good too. On this particular day of our visit, the staff was very friendly and attentive. Have visited many times in the past recieving the same type of service. We used to visit once a month or so, but we have moved far up north where restaurants are booming, but to me, there is nothing like the Charco Broiler where we will continue to roadtrip to when craving a steak in a very relaxed homey environment.

Charco has been open for more than 50 years and once you eat one of their burgers you will see why. It is located in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas on Jefferson Ave. It is an old school steakhouse that lacks frills but that is part of the appeal. I've eaten the burgers, steaks, fajita melt-sneaky good, chicken....and all are excellent. This place is high quality with great prices. You cannot miss this place when pulling up...there is a huge cow on the top of the building. If you are in Oak Cliff, skip the trendy Bishop Arts district and go about 3 blocks south to Charco...definitely worth it.

Celebrating a big birthday and this place has been in business 60 years! Same age as the birthday girl!! Slow greet... our waitress walked past us at least 4 times before acknowledging us... Had to ask for bread and butter... $2.50 up-charge for Cesar salad... not sure why... Rib eye steak and French fries for dinner... just ok... whatever you do don't order the special mushrooms. I'm not even sure what they taste like! Happy birthday

What can you say about an Oak Cliff classic? Supplying good meals to the area for over 50 years and still going. Only complaint I have is their chopped steak needs brown gravy and mushrooms. Look for the steer on top of the building.

My favorite lunch place in Oak Cliff, I eat here quite a bit. Great food and awesome prices, they have amazing lunch specials No matter the length of the waiting line, they work fast and are always ready.

this local gem is a great place to enjoy your steak that is grilled on an open fire. the bake potato is big enough to share with a second person.

I have been eating in this old place since the 60's. It is a GREAT VALUE. Step back in time and enjoy a place that really hasn't changed very much. They have three dining rooms and stay busy. The steaks are cooked to order, variety is good, and the service is usually friendly, attentive, and helpful.

Great little Mom & Pop style place in Oak Cliff. Good food for the price. Comfortable and casual atmosphere.

We were looking for a reasonable steak meal near downtown Dallas, and Googled to find one. What turned up was this little hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Oak Cliff. Not exactly a spot we would normally frequent at nighttime (hmmmm), but we were near the neighborhood and decided to give it a try. It was a great find! A small spot, but fairly crowded even at 8:30 on a Monday night! Dinner special on Mondays was $ 6.99 for an 8oz NY Strip, a huge baked potato, a small dinner salad, and a slice of Texas toast! For $ 8.99 you could get the 8oz ribeye with the same fixins. Nothing fancy, but super good! Even went back for lunch specials this week. This spot has a massive cow on the top of the restaurant...easy to spot! Just remember - if you want atmosphere and 6X the price - go to Bobs Chophouse or Del Frisco's or III Forks!

It's not fancy. It's not expensive. It's a good old fashioned neighborhood restaurant. We ate there twice in 2 days. He had the burger and I had the sirloin. Both days the food was EXCELLENT! I definitely recommend this to any one who is on a budget, or just wants to eat like the locals do!

On college visit at Dallas Baptist University and wanted lunch. Used yelp to locate close restaurant and ended up here. It's not fancy, but food is excellent and prices are outstanding. Daughter had bacon wrapped steak + baked potato for $10. I had fried shrimp with fries for the same. Food was very good!

We were in Dallas visiting when friends ask us to meet up here for dinner. There were 2 couples an 3 kids here for dinner. The food was really good. It was budget friendly! We got our food pretty fast. We had ribeye steaks, salad & baked potatoes for 3 & under $43! The atmosphere was relaxed. The Decor was cut western themed. I would definitely recommend if in the area. Good meal & value for the money!

their steaks are always so good and you get salad and bake potato at no additional charge and the pies and cakes are tasty as well

Not much to say... the atmosphere and food is very reminiscent of a 50's-60's steakhouse. Texas toast, baked potato, cheap house salad... And delicious, charcoal broiled, cheap steaks. They are small, but when you consider you are only paying $12-15 for all that's mentioned above, we're talking about great value for money. AND... the steaks really are delicious!

Good little lunch spot. They make decent steaks at a really great price. Great smothered chicken, everything fresh and the service is good. They could really improve the variety of side options. You can choose from shrimp, catfish, steak, and chicken in many different forms of preparation but the only available sides are bland french fries, bland salad, or a baked potatoe with fixings. They also offer good slices of pie and cake though.

This place has been around for years. The lunch is dash and great. I have had the chopped steak and also the sirloin steak. Lots of locals and I saw about 10 cops in this place so you know it's good.

Others rave about this restaurant. My wife and I found it less than satisfactory in a recent visit this week. We both ordered Black Angus Tenderloin; hers "Medium" and mine "Medium Rare" based on description by the cook. Her's was "Medium Well" and, really, mine wasn't far behind that. The baked potato was fair, not like people rate it. But, we found the salad an interesting negative experience. If you want Cherry Tomatoes, you had to pay $0.08 each. They don't even place them out in view; there's just a sign. When you ask for them, they go somewhere (to get them out of a vault?) and bring the number you order to you in a cup. I've dined out since the 1960's and never have I seen anything like that before. Iced tea was expensive and refills were few and far between. We came; we went. Never to go back again.

Tried this place for the first time, loved the food, however the steak had NO seasoning yet tender but no taste. Shake a little seasoning salt, garlic, and steak seasoning, it would be a help.

Sorry, I see all these great reviews about this place but not really sure why. We decided to try it out, because of the reviews. But first off there's nothing special about the service, no one greets you as you walk in, I didn't see a single smile on anyone working there. Very bored and uninterested faces. You order your food, pay for it get a number and wait for the waitress to bring it to your table. My husband ordered a $15 steak that looked more like a tiny $5 steak that came with a burnt dried baked potato. My food was ok, but expensive as well and not worth it, the salad was just gross. The fries that came on my kids plates, taste like from a frozen bag with no taste. Overall this place was nothing like I expected, the reviews must be from old time customers or the owners of this place. Next time we'll just go to Texas Roadhouse.

I can't find my original review but I was very very disappointed in the quality of the chop steak that y'all were serving at that time. I have been going to this restaurant since I was a child so around 40 years y'all used to have the very best chop steak however in the last few years I noticed it's a quality of the meat had gone down it look like a glorified thin hamburger patty, overcooked hard and dry. Much to my surprise yesterday when I came in it look like y'all had gone back to the original true chop sirloin Patty. Thank you thank you so very much Charco Broiler outstanding decision to go back to the original.

Stopped in for lunch based off of the TA Reviews. It was just OK. The steak (6oz. Sirloin) was good about like most. There really no taste and the baked potatoes were also lacking flavor. It was not the worst meal I have ever had but definitely not the best. There are lot of other better steak places around. I can say I probably won’t go back because I just never see myself in that area again. It is in a slightly sketchy area. The restaurant seemed cleaner than most places in the area.

You can tell you're at the right establishment by the giant cow atop the restaurant which can be seen from blocks away. Any place with the words "charco", "broiler" and which has a giant cow has got to be good, right? I enjoyed the ribeye lunch special which included a decent piece of ribeye steak cooked to order, a large baked potato, salad and a piece of Texas toast. The steak was a bit thin, but was perfectly cooked and was tasty. The baked potato was also perfectly cooked and was very large. The salad was the traditional steakhouse iceberg lettuce with carrots, croutons, onions and the dressing of your choice. The lettuce was cold and crispy as were the rest of the veggies. The restaurant was pretty busy at lunch which is always a good sign. This is cafeteria style - order and move your tray down the line. All staff were very friendly and the restaurant was very clean - and was a rustic western style establishment. Price of $11.99 for that lunch which included a refillable drink, was very reasonable in my mind for the amount of food received. Others in my party had burgers and said how good they were. Burgers were about $5.00 and included fries and salad.

I can’t remember the last time I put steak sauce on a steak. But today it was very much needed. The steak was appropriately cooked, but it had so little flavor. The potato was good and the atmosphere was fairly nice once we got past the homeless guy sitting outside the front door. I won’t be back.

We stopped here on our way to the Texas Theater. Had the chili and potatoe, N had a burger. The fries were really good! Friendly staff.

This is an Oak Cliff original Restraurant - a kind of fast food steak place with a Giant Cow on the roof- very retro- I believe it was opened in the early 1960's and has been serving great steaks at affordable prices ever since - This is not an upscale steak house so please do not go if you are looking for something like Ruth Chris Steak house- the food is just as good as any steak house in the world, but served in a classic 1960's style fast food steak restaurant. Steaks cooked to order with a salad and baked potato will run you abou $11.00 add a drink on for a buck I think. Located on Historic Jefferson Blvd walking distance to the Texas Theater- this is a must try place

I love this place. I just ate a Rib Eye steak that ranks up with Texas Land & Cattle and Out Back for 1/2 the price. This steak was cooked to perfection served with a baked potato, salad/bread & tea for $10 bucks. I've eaten here numerous times and it is always consistent....If you are in Dallas/Oak Cliff- this place is a must stop, doesn't look like much (besides the huge bull on top of the restaurant) but it will satisfy your mouth & wallet... (The staff is always friendly)

A long time staple on Jefferson Blvd, just down a bit from the Texas Theater (Kennedy Assassin hid here)....the food is cheap, generous, classic burgers and steak/potatoes. a great place for an inexpensive, no-nonsense meal with friends.

Came by for a quick lunch today, been going this place since I don't know when. Family owned, now in third generation I believe. Shirts said founded 1963, and I remember it then cause we were in high school. Got the usual chopped steak, on sale even, always the best choice for me. Have tried the rib eyes, etc, but the more pricier steak houses do better for those, to me. Specialty is the baked potato. Baked a special way, always done to perfection, lots of butter comes on top, you add sour cream, cheese...delicious, even eat the skin. Worth the trip there. Lots of families there, Reasonable price, good food, long history....will go back again and again... You cannot miss the cow on top of the building....you found the place when you see it!!!

While we were looking for a place to dine, we decided to stop here to take a picture with the bull on the roof. What we didn't know was that we were about to enter the best value-for-money restaurant we've ever been to. The entrance is relatively small and you order at the checkout according to the menu they offer, ranging from cuts of meat, breaded chicken, burgers... all at very affordable prices. Once we asked we entered the living room, which is already much more spacious and in a very short time brought us our dishes a lovely and very attentive waitress who at all times made sure that we did not lack anything. Very Top

First of all, if you're looking for a "fine dining experience", go to Del Frisco's or Ruth's Chris...and pay those prices. That's not what Charco Broiler is all about. This is basic good food at a very reasonable price. They've been here since 1963 so they've found a balance between quality and value that works for them. When you go in, you get in line and order on the line. They put your steak or chicken or whatever on the grill right then and cook it to order. I had the Grilled Chicken Salad and my friend had the 8oz Ribeye (comes with a side salad, a baked potato and a piece of Texas Toast). When I got my salad I had the option of adding shredded carrots, onions, croutons, fried noodles, and cabbage. There are also saltine crackers available (packages of 2) and you just grab as many as you want. You also put your own dressing on the salad from the choices available. The chicken was tender, there was plenty of lettuce and tomatoes and I like that I got to build the rest of it myself. My friend asked for his ribeye cooked medium and that's what he got. It was pretty thin but he says he likes them like that. The side salad, baked pototo and toast were pretty standard. Someone came around a couple of times to see if we needed drink refills (but they don't have Diet Coke, just that Coke Zero stuff!) and other than that they leave you alone. If I was of the age and situation, I wouldn't take a first date there. But my friend and I both enjoyed our food and I'd have no problems going back.

Wife and I were impressed. I mean we not expecting much. Not bad for a tight budget. If you are expecting salt grass steak, ah no. It's a great price for working people, that have to pay for everyday life.

I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and enjoyed it. My husband ordered the ribeye and it was overcooked (probably to accommodate the majority of people who really don't understand the steak spectrum). He said it tasted decent though. He loved the orange/yellow sauce. The fries were not seasoned but there was seasoning salt on the table. It was an enjoyable experience and the people were nice. Staff and the other patrons had smiles.

I don't know why so many 1 star reviews. This place is more like a hole in the wall but the staff is amazing. Food is awesome in my opinion. Menu is not huge but they make up for it in taste. Prices are very reasonable. Probably some of the cheapest prices for this type of food. Its located in the middle of downtown oak cliff. Parking can get crazy sometimes but definitely worth it. Don't expect the ambiance and glitzy type place. It's not like that. It's a great place to hang out with family and enjoy your meal.

Steaks are not big but food is good for the price t bone pork chops price under 20.00 can't buy that any where else food comes out fast and hot love the double chop steak everything is pretty good just not open late nites if you go, go before 700pm because closes early
Great menu, great salad, great Steaks, great cow on the roof.
The food is amazing here, the appetizer salad that accompanies the entrée is great and the baked potatoes are excellent as well. All around the food and beverages here are top notch for a really good price. I didn't have desert but their steaks are good, my gf had chicken which was also great. Good kids menu too. Parking looks sketchy but my car was still there afterwards.
