This is the first time to eat at Charlie’s Cajun Kitchen and we loved it. We got there around 12:50 and it was busy but had plenty of tables available. The service was excellent and we were greeted immediately. I ordered the fried combo of shrimp, oysters and catfish. It came with French fries and Cole slaw. The shrimp, oysters and catfish were cooked perfectly and flavorful. My wife had the shrimp and grits and she loved it. The salad that came with it was also excellent. We loved Charlie’s and we will definitely be back. This is an excellent restaurant and I have no doubt that everything on the menu is excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This restaurant in Lower Greenville had a Cajun in the Kitchen. Food was good and authentic. Loved the gumbo. Service was very attentive from Rachel. She answered all our questions about the menu. Didn't save room for the brad pudding. Will do that on our next visit!

From the UK. Fantastic food, great service and brilliant atmosphere. Highly recommended please give it go if you’re in the area. You won’t be disappointed.

My dad turned 91 and wanted Cajun Food for his birthday. Checked out the menu and we ordered take out. Still not eating in restaurants because of COVID. Food was ready when promised, hot and delicious. Between the 8 of us we had a good selection of items and everyone enjoyed their food. I’m including a pic of my dad’s fried soft shell crab meal. He was SO HAPPY! Thank you for making his special day awesome!

I chose this restaurant because it was nearby and also enrolled in the American Airlines dining program. The atmosphere is very inviting and I especially liked the multiple HDTV screens featuring live sports. The menu is diverse New Orleans and Louisiana style. It will take multiple visits to truly capture the full potential of the kitchen. Unfortunately, I selected the wrong dish -- Jambalaya -- which I normally enjoy thoroughly. This version was much too dry and the sticky rice was truly extremely sticky. I should have gone with something like the Shrimp Creole which I was told had a more soupy texture. Service was splendid. The staff introduce themselves as part of their service, and ask for your name. Very welcoming and genuine. The intimate atmosphere also creates a warm, family style setting.

From the moment you walk into this vintage Bourbon Street style bistro, there's friendliness galore. Even before sitting down at the bar, I was asked what I wanted to drink. The patrons are clearly regulars here. And why not. The food and service are very good....maybe a bit too efficient. I started with a good pour of Pinot Noir, and ordered a cup of seafood gumbo. Delicious! Slightly spicy (as it should be) even without the jalapenos. I had ordered at the same time a blackened redfish which also came with a nice sized side salad. The salad was unexceptional. Mostly iceberg lettuce that looked a bit day old. But I liked the lightly dressed vinaigrette. The redfish came quickly ... too quickly. I hadn't finished my salad course. The entree itself was a big portion and perfectly cooked. It came with a nice portion also of delicious grilled asparagus, and nicely prepared "dirty" rice. I didn't immediately like the crawfish cream sauce on top of the fish. It tasted a bit too fishy. Without the sauce, the redfish was delicious, and I discovered that the taste of the cream sauce with the dirty rice was actually very nice. All in all, I will come back to try some of the other dishes on the menu here. I liked the vibe and the food overall. With some minor adjustments, this restaurant will get 5 starts.

This is the original Dodies. Charlie McKenzie's son Chris opened a new location 10 blocks North, then went bankrupt. He gave up the name to the corporation that bought him out, they eventually made Charlie change the name. All the help emphasizes that nothing has changed, but since we were here 6 mos ago, most everything has changed. The dressing on the slaw is different, not bad, just different. The fried oysters used to be dredged in egg & flour, now they are prepared with an out of the freezer case corn crust. The menu has changed, especially in price. You can no longer get Blackened Voodoo. The bread pudding used to be very moist cinamon raisin with a wonderful bourbon sauce, now it is heavily laced with chocolate chips, a chocolate top layer & an amaretto sauce. The combo of heavy chocolate, light or no cinamon & amaretto leaves a bitter aftertaste. We couldnt finish it... The funky atmosphere is unchanged, but the food is just a formulaic corporate fern bar we've all had a hindred times. After 18 years, I doubt that we'll be back...

My family has been eating at this location for years, first when it was Dodie’s, and now as Charlie’s. Everything we loved is still there, but the menu has expanded and the seating is improved. The staff also graciously allowed me to put together my own “combo” dinner. Great food at a great price with prompt and friendly service!

We had a great time here. The staff was fantastic and kept us comfortable the entire time. The best thing about the entire experience was their live music and their frozen drinks. We had a frozen hurricane and an eclectic combo that was Crown, lemonade, and something else. Both drinks were outstanding and reasonably priced. The oysters on the half shell were fresh and good. The menu was fantastic. Unfortunately, and the only negative was, we ordered the barbecued shrimp. Do yourself a favor andDON’T ORDER THE Barbecued shrimp! I’ve never experienced soft, mushy, smelly shrimp like this. We should have sent it back, but didn’t, probably because the sauce on it was fantastic and the bread that we dipped in the sauce made up for the awful presentation of the shrimp. A very interesting” yuck”. We will absolutely go again (and certainly not order barbecue shrimp).

Located in the original Doodie's location on lower Greenville, Charlie is back serving outstanding NOLA lunch and dinner. Gumbo is awesome as is the red beans & rice and crayfish 2-ways.

We have been going here for years and it is a local staple. My hubs prefers the new location up Greenville, but the menus are slightly different. Guess I'm just old school? I love crawfish, but can't handle the shucking, and will certainly never suck the head. Charlies has my favorite crawfish dishes - Pasta Monica, Crawfish Ettouffe and Fried Crawfish Tails. Even better, you can get the last two in a combo!!

Charlie's Creole Kitchen ( originally Dodies) on Lower Greenville Ave has consistently great crawfish, in season, & creole dishes all yr long. You want it, they have it. We have never had a bad meal here & have had most things on the menu. We have been going there for 35 yrs. It is hard to name our favorite dishes because they are all so good. Try fried crab claws, boudin balls with remoulade sauce & crawfish for starters. If you are still hungry, they have great cajun classics. My one gripe is that we live 90 miles north of here. We grab friends & drive down frequently! The name has changed, but the owner & quality are the same.

The best Oyster Po Boy! My family and I were just there and even my 5 year old loves the fried oyster po boy!! Reasonable prices, great service, bought a bottle of their hot sauce to bring home. So tasty!
Always Awesome!
We’ve been coming here almost as long as this great Cajun food place has been at this location (about 25 years). Of course, earlier it had a different name. After it became Charlie’s, the food remained great with the all time favorites of the coleslaw and bread pudding plus delicious entrees, appetizers, salads, gumbos, and sandwiches. We go often to enjoy family dinners, visits with close friends, or just the two of us for a great meal. Highly recommended for a diner meal of extraordinary food. Bar serves beer and wine.
