When my Lyft driver asked me what was my favorite place so far in San Antonio, I told her Chas Kitchen and Market! It is a Korean bbq buffet for ONLY $22 (dinner) - you get steak, pork belly, short ribs, other meats... rice, vegetables, bonchan (korean appetitizers - we got 7-9 different kinds), all kinds of different sauces. Once we finish one item, they come and replenish. AND everything was delicious. I was in heaven. It's also BYOB. and the restaurant is inside a supermarket, so you can buy non-alcoholic drinks, snacks, and desserts -- i got the melon popsicle. The service was amazing. It is a mom and pop place, run by the family. They are so kind, welcoming, and generous. i felt like I was in someone's home. My eight colleagues and I all had a great time, the best time.

This is a Korean BBQ in a very small market and butcher shop. It is not in a ritzy part of town. Anyone looking for an upscale experience might want to look elsewhere. The food is quite good, with the service done by the family. Atmosphere? Picture several picnic tables and a few small 2- and 4-tops placed in the middle of a very small market/butcher shop. Service is a bit of a mystery when you walk in. I think most diners are regulars who know the routine. If you don't, it's a bit of a puzzle how to navigate through the meal and paying the bill. But that's part of the adventure finding and trying places like this. I enjoyed the food. It may not be the best Korean BBQ in town, but it's the best I've had in San Antonio. It's also close to the Interstate highway, so it's easy to get to.

Not worth eating in this place, I was told to eat what they serve me before I can ask fo seconds , food were lousy.I rate this place a 2 star.

A neighborhood market and Korean Barbecue restaurant. A no frills restaurant that serves very good Korean Barbecue. Serving are very generous with white rice and vegetables.

We haven’t had a Korean restaurant in our city since Covid so we search them out. My husband was searching for authentic Bibimbap. This place has it! Very casual grocery store atmosphere with plenty of seating.

My wife and I were in San Antonio for a friends wedding this past weekend and before leaving town, we were in search of a place to eat lunch at and ran into Chas Market & Kitchen on Yelp. This is what we think of it: LOCATION: The restaurant and the market is one, dining area in the middle of everything else (meat market, taco section, refrigerated drinks and all). The idea and layout is different from what we most see in other Korean BBQ places, this being “two in one” kind of thing. Its a descent size dining room (small in my opinion) but it can hold several parties at any given time. Though I think it would be a little too cramp. The building is located conveniently just off the freeway/feeder and so it is easy to get to and get out from. It is surrounded by an old neighborhood (make sure you lock your cars and just try to get in and out of the car and doors locked at all times... I personally wouldn’t want to stand outside to just talk). Small parking lot at the side can hold descent amount of vehicles. FOOD: My wife and I were a little skeptical about the food in the beginning. Though in our experiences, the unassuming look and location of a food establishment doesn’t always means “its bad” or “its good”. For just a little bit of difference in price, we decided to do their “All you can eat” for $22+/person. Surprisingly, the Banchans that were served were tasteful and flavorful. Pretty much what would one find in a Korean Restaurant (seaweed, kimchi, fish cake and other pickled dishes). Since establishment wants to fit in, they also served a potato salad. The variety served is descent, though it can be improved. ***BEWARE: they do not bring out all of the meats for you to cook at once. Rather, they bring it out one by one and gauge it if you are almost done with that one particular meat and either ask you if you are ready for the next or they just being it out on their own. — during our visit, they cooked the ribeye, bulgogi, and short ribs inside their kitchen and they brought it out cooked already for us. The only meat cooked table side is the pork belly, which was also cooked for us. This is good is you don’t care about cooking and smelling like it. Bad if you wanted to experience cooking it yourselves.*** - Pork Belly was cooked for us, but it is unseasoned. Not even a pinch of salt in it. - Ribeye was cooked inside for us, but it lacks flavor and ample or proper seasoning. Its like you ate at home. - Short Ribs & Bulgogi, was also cooked inside for us, was flavorful but it can be a little too sweet for ones palette. If you love sweets, it is for us. If you don’t, drown or counter it with the soy sauce and/or rice. RESTAURANT FEEL: During our visit (Sunday afternoon), it must be their slow day. Only one server was going around and only one person we observed was dining in from when we arrived until we left the restaurant. Staff was friendly and polite. Noticed that their isn’t really an individual hood vents above each dining table. Instead, they had run a/c ducks across the dining room to turn on and alleviate the smoke. OR this is their vent hood, instead of placing individual ones over each table (we did not notice a separate a/c duct elsewhere... you be the judge). This may be the reason why they much prefer to cook some or most of the items inside their kitchen, where they have a required commercial exhaust hood vent system, rather than letting everyone cook it table side and cloud the entire place if there are multiple parties dining in at the same time. One can argue that this is not your typical Korean BBQ restaurant. The restaurant and market seems to me in descent shape, somewhat clean and/or organized. FINAL TAKE AND PERSONAL OPINION: If you are on its side of town, in a rush and craving for Korean BBQ, this is a descent place to go. However, if you want to experience quality (it also comes for a higher price), look for a different Korean BBQ Restaurant elsewhere in the City. You’d be thankful and grateful that you did. We didn’t like the fact that they do not bring out all or most of the meats table side to be cooked (or cooked already) at the same time so we have a variety of meats to eat and not just stuck eating the same meat until we finish it. Although you can try and ask then perhaps to bring it all at once. Our server didn’t give us that option and we were just told that they bring it one at a time as to not overwhelm us (good or bad, depends on you). The flavor of the dishes is mediocre, perhaps not the best quality or what a Korean BBQ savvy can expect from a Korean BBQ Restaurant. ***IF IT IS YOUR FIRST TIME EATING KOREAN BBQ, DO NOT COME HERE. GO ELSEWHERE FOR THE EXPERIENCE AND QUALITY!!*** As for my wife and I, its good that we are able to experience this and share our thoughts with everyone else. But we probably should have looked elsewhere and eaten at a different place. Our bellies were fed, and its full. But it isn’t the feeling of “Oh wow that was good/great/fantastic!”. Its what you paid for.

I ordered cold Bidi Bop and Korean short ribs. I ate everything no left overs!! Was the BEST as usual!! It helped me get a 90 on my Test!!

We had the all you can eat Korean BBQ to have some cooked in front of us but only the pork belly was cooked in front of us unfortunately. However, all the other meats we tried were delicious. In addition to the pork belly, we had the steak, spicy pork bulgogi, and the kalbi. All were incredibly flavorful and cooked well even though they weren't cooked in front of us. Bottled water comes with the all you can meal. The banchan side dishes were all very fresh and tasty as well. I am not giving a 5 rating because the place could be a little cleaner and allow cooking at the table for singular meat dishes instead of having to pay for the all you can eat price. Overall worth the visit though and I would recommend it for great tasting Korean BBQ.

See the photo. Would take a Lyft or drive, would not walk the neighborhood. The food was great! And the owner made a special warm Korean ginger drink when she learned that our South African visitor had never had Korean food. Definitely recommend. Not fancy but fabulous!

Our son just graduated from Lackland BMT, and heard a great complement about the Chas Market and Kitchen. After not eating anything but the food they were given and not seeing his family for 81/2 weeks, this is where he wanted to celebrate! We drove quite a ways from the base and when we arrived, we were surprised at the old and run down appearance. My son persisted tho! We went inside and had a nice waiter. My son wanted their “all you can eat” meal, which was $22.95. My husband wasn’t too hungry so he decided to get a regular meal. But, when he ordered, he was told that at least two people have to order the “all you can eat” deal, so for our son’s sake, he decided to change his order! Our two other children wanted to split a $16 meal, which the waiter said was fine. (Btw, They don’t have a kids menu). I was unsure about the food options as I’m a pretty plain eater. I had the idea to ask if I could withhold my order until the kids got theirs and I could taste it to see how spicy it was. The waiter said that would not be a problem. Pretty soon the waiter comes back and says that the owner won’t let us sit at the same table!!! She wanted the two men at one table and me and the other two at a separate table!!!! The waiter felt badly and my husband asked him to ask the owner if she would rather we all sit together or that we would just leave. He came back and said “The owner says it is fine with her if you leave!!!!” We were stunned, horribly embarrassed, and angry that this lady would treat us this way and ruin our sons’ special meal!! We talked with the waiter some more and understood that he felt badly for us. We have him a tip for his kindness, and left that hole in the wall place! Btw, if you leave any meat on your plate, there is an additional $15 charge! I would warn everyone from going to this place and rewarding this owner with any business! What a disappointment!

This restaurant is the best kept secret in San Antonio. Whether you're visiting the city, or a native, you must try this place! I am Korean, and it's hard to find a place that has authentic dishes without tons of MSG. This place tastes like home, the dishes are made with quality cuts of meat, and they don't skimp on materials or the processes. The marinades are FERMENTED in timely processes to bring out the flavor, and the employees pay great attention to the detail of their dishes and they take the utmost pride in their food. I love frequenting places where the staff have pride in what they're serving. It tells me that the food is made with love and that no corners are cut when making the food. The value of the ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT Korean bbq can't be beat for the price, not to mention the variety of side dishes you get with the meal. I've been here multiple times, each time bringing more friends along, and everyone is equally as impressed as I am every visit. I will definitely be back again when the craving for AUTHENTIC Korean food hits! Side note: the owners are A.R.M.Y. which makes the experience even better, if that's even possible ;)
