Copnsistently excellent

By nskaye |

Another excellent dinner with friends. The food is always excellent and the bar knows how to make an excellent mango-chili margarita. We usually order off the vegan menu and the food is delicious, healthy, and you won't miss the meat. It's good to have a lighter meal before theater anyway.

Great food, relaxing atmosphere

Stumbled upon their preview week during a business trip. The atmosphere was the perfect place to unwind. The food was so good, we returned a second time during our stay.

The absolute worst

By ebarbash |

The place looked great. End of review. Nothing else was remotely good. Service abominable. After 2 1/2 hours we had begged for drinks and, as it turns out, some else’s appetizers. We paid and left.

Good Thai Food

By Tim |

Near our place of stay, we took a chance on stopping into an in-rated place, and were not disappointed with our decision. Our shrimp pad Thai and duck (Kang Ped Yang) entrees were very good as were the chicken Satay and Thuong Tong appetizers. We hope this place is going to make it.

Fantastic flavors, wonderful service

Fantastic flavors, wonderful service, interesting décor, and sufficiently quiet for conversation. Located in the heart of Center City, only a block or two from major theaters, and concert venues.

Good food and nice ambiance

This a good center city Thai restaurant with moderately priced food. The vegan dishes were plentiful. I wish they were a little more flavorful. The portions were a little small for the prices. I enjoyed it but will try another Thai place next time.

Birthday Dinner

By Rose Aiello |

Food was great. We went to celebrate one of my friend birthday. They were able to accommodate 8 of us. We brought our cake and they place the candle for us. Food and drinks were great but we did not have the best server. It seems that he was a bit overwhelmed with our group. But otherwise it was not bad. Great ambiance

Great food, disappointing service

By jmilla17 |

Came here for a meal on a Saturday night at the start of August with my mum. The restaurant wasn’t busy, there were maybe another 3 or 4 tables in. We ordered our food and waited for it to arrive. When it did the waiter said the name of one of the dishes which was my mums and put it down then simply put the other dish in front of me. I didn’t recognise the dish as being what I’d ordered and asked the waiter what it was. He said he didn’t know and would go and find out. After a couple of minutes, the waiter that had taken the order came over, he advised the dish that was in front of me was actually my mums and the other one was not what we’d ordered at all and was taken away to be replaced. I must’ve waited another 10/15 mins for my meal and my mum had to eat hers without me or it would’ve got cold. The food itself was lovely as was the actual restaurant, I was just really disappointed with the service

Truly Authentic and SUPER tasty!!

I was there for Philly Vegan Restaurant Week and it was amazing! Chef Venus really brings out some great flavors.

Parents 1st time having Thai!

By Dean B |

We live in Australia but were back home visiting hometown Philly and family in NJ. We were in town for a family friends bday and i mentioned to my parents that we can try dinner nearby. We checked Trip Advisor and Chatayee showed up. My parents never had Thai so we said we'd try it out. I've travelled in Thailand before and my gf and i know good Thai when we have it. This place DID NOT disappoint. We were so happy that my parents 1st experience with Thai was in a place that had delicious food, great staff and service. We order the safest, red chicken curry, pad thai, chicken and beef skewers and shrimp. Yum and yum to all! We even order dessert...the gelato...it was good as well. And best of all, it was literally next door to the hotel were statying at...HI Express. Well done and we look forward to seeing you again!

Great food

We visited Chatayee Thai for their Philly loves David Bowie brunch. They had a DJ playing Bowie music. The food is quite unique and authentic Thai. The decor is just beautiful and rich in culture. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

Great Food, Friendly Service

By DKHNL |

I wanted to get something quick to take back to my hotel room and stumbled upon the restaurant. I sat at the bar waiting for my order and while I was waiting the owner provided me with a vegan appetizer which was delicious. My curry entree and sticky rice were also delicious. If I had a longer stay in the area, I would definitely go back. The bar and restaurant all looked really nice!

So Good

By evelyncaba |

This was my first time eating Thai food and my first time eating at Chatayee. The chicken and rice soup was delicious, wish I had more. I also tried the chicken curry w/ rice (mild) - next time I'll try medium. It was flavorful, fresh and very good. I would definitely go back to try other items on their menu.

Delicious & Authentic Thai Cuisine

By Jen C |

I've been here a number of times in the first few months since they opened and have enjoyed my meal every time. The chicken satay is the best I've had in the City. Wait staff is very friendly.

Great flavors

Thai Food at it’s best!

By Karl R |

Spent a weekend in Philly and wanted to try Chatayee Thai. Very glad we stopped in. To begin with our server Rio was charming which is always a pleasure. The flavors we experienced were classic and delicious. Tom Kha, a soup made from Coconut Milk, Lemongrass broth, Mushrooms and in our case Shrimp was subtle, spicy and smooth. You really want to lick the bowl. Entrees were Beef in Green Curry done spicy with squash, string beans, carrots and basil and Slow Roasted Lamb tenderly cooked with pandan leaf, roasted herbs and veggies. Thai food done right has flavors that stick with you long after the meal is done. Each entree was beautifully cooked and the spices were spot on. Coconut gelato with sticky rice for dessert ended our meal perfectly. This is a restaurant that I will seek out whenever I’m in Philly. The owner, Joanna stopped by our table on numerous occasions to make sure we were taken care of. That kind of personal attention is always appreciated. Thank you for a wonderful meal.

Excellent Thai Food

By Peter D |

We dined here whilst visiting Philadelphia, as it was close to where we were staying. It was Monday night, and they were very quiet. We enjoyed the more subdued atmosphere, compared to some of the raucous noise we had experienced the evening before at Double Knot restaurant. Anyway the service was friendly, and not rushed at all. We were able to take our time, with a couple of starters, followed by Kang Pha Kai (chicken curry), and Khao Soi (thai curry noodle soup with beef). The dishes were excellent, great flavours, with just a little heat, and also very generous servings. This turned out to be one of the better restaurants we visited during our holiday in the USA.

You don't have to go to Bangkok

By McGill20 |

Too many Asian restaurants dumb down the spice for American taste. At Chatayee you can have it as you like - mild, medium, hot and THAI HOT!!. The cuisine served here is truly authentic. If you have been to Thailand, you can appreciate this. There are two menus - regular and vegan or just ask for your special dish. Just too many superbly prepared starters, soups and mains to describe. Check out the menu on line - a particular favorite is Ka Mu Tod. You can eat like a king but prices are very reasonable. This is a restaurant not to be missed. And yes, there is a happy hour if you just want to check it out with numerous apps from $5-9.

Great drinks and good food

By Archie |

We went out for dinner, parked on Chestnut street. We sat at the back as they joined tables together. The restaurant has good decor. We got great drinks Bangkok Mule was my favorite. Our server was really nice. We had masaman roti, curry was tasty. We has the bommbai chicken curry level 2 spice is right. We liked the fried rice. We enjoyed the vegan menu. Green curry was interesting. The papaya salad was nicely done. The food in general is very sweet, full of sugar. Unfortunately we could not enjoy it as much.

Authentic and delicious

By Paul S |

We were walking on Walnut looking for a place for dinner and noticed this new restaurant. Early in 2018 we took an 11 day Cooking School themed trip to Thailand, experiencing three schools in three different city with the regional variations from north to mountain to south. The dishes at Chatayee were perfectly reminiscent of the flavors and nuances we found in Thailand. Our server was from Chaing Mai, the first stop on our trip and we shared thoughts and dishes, flavors and restaurants. Our favorites at Chatayee were the Larb and the Tom Yum soup, Thai classics which were well executed.

Surprisingly good!

By Monica |

My husband and I were looking for a casual spot with 2 young kids. We stumbled upon this place because it was the closest thai place near where we were. We didn't have much expectation but wow, the food was pretty darn good! One of the better thai restaurants I've been to. We had Bangkok Mule cocktail which was based on coconut milk and vodka. Really complex and refreshing at the same time. Thai ice tea was also good though I had better. Kang Dang Mussels and Mou Ping skewers were really good as well. The curry sauce that was in the mussels was to die for. Highly recommended. Kids had Pad See Ew and Pad Thai. Both were delicious. Kang Hung Lay and Ka Mou Tod were both really delicious. Our waitress recommended that we order at least one curry dish and she was right. My curry was delicious. My husband's pork shank was tender and flavorful. For dessert, we had the black rice pudding and baked banana. The black rice pudding was really tasty though I found both dessert somewhat over priced for the amount. Their main dishes were huge in portion. Overall, a great experience and I recommend people to try this place.

Great food and service

Lovely space, excellent service, delicious food. What more could you ask? We walked in with no reservation on our first night in the city ( a Wednesday), with no wait.

A taste of Thailand

By Todmordenbanjoplayer |

Visited this restaurant by pure luck as our group walked past . I’m very glad we found it , the food was fabulous and the service was first class. I’ve visited Thailand on a few vacations so knew what the dishes were. Pay this place a visit . Many regards to all the staff , thanks for a great night .

Excellent food and service!

By Randall C |

Excellent service and food! They have an interesting menu and loads of vegan dishes. We split five appetizers and all were delicious. And we all enjoyed the entrees, no food was left on our plates. You get to choose how spicy you want your food too. Just a great experience

Great food, but strange cost-paying requirement, and slow service.

By Dennis B |

Fabulous food with vegan options galore. The ones we had were delicious. Tofu satay starter and a salad also fantastic. For dinner, Boom Bai Tofu, and a mushroom entree. All of this was fantastic and so much, we had to take some home. Service, however, while courteous, was slow. And here's the real kicker: not being from Phila., it came as quite a shock when we were charged a service fee for using a credit card to pay for the bill. I asked. It's the law there. All credit card users have to pay the fee, but cash customers don't. The original reasoning: costs go up; businesses didn't want to spend extra cost to up their menus because of the rising costs, so they added the fee to credit card folks. Yeah, but aren't the cash-food diners eating the same higher cost food? And! Not all places in Phila. are doing this.

Incredible authentic Thai food

By gretchen s |

I grew up in Philadelphia and this may be the best meal I have ever eaten in the city. The Thai pad noodles with basil was perfect. The dish comes with chicken but I requested beef instead. My son ordered the chicken curry, which he said was fantastic as well. Can’t wait to eat there again.

Lunar New Year Celebration

My husband and I just ate at Chatayee Thai for Lunar New Year. It was fantastic. The service was great--a really friendly and attentive front of the house staff. We loved every dish we had. The restaurant is also really beautifully appointed.

New Thai Restaurant on Walnut near 13th

By IndyDogz |

We went here for a birthday dinner this weekend and enjoyed the cocktails and large vegan menu. The staff was great with recommendations and attentiveness. Half of our group of 6 ordered from the vegan menu and half from the regular menu. Everyone liked their dish so we'll definitely be back.

Fabulous Thai food!

We had a fabulous dinner here, great presentation exceeded by the flavors Service very friendly and efficient. Autumn rolls were excellent! Dinners even better.

Flavorful entrees served with style

By Michael B |

We had a family dinner here during our visit to the Phila Flower Show. Our party of five each found something on the menu to like, and we were not disappointed. Check the photos of the presentation. I wish I could remember the Thai name of our dishes, alas, I didn't take notes. They tasted as good as they look in the photos. The server asked our preference for the level of heat in our dishes, from 1 to 5. Some of us liked it hot and we got what we asked for, likewise for those who preferred a milder taste. Service was fine. The only negative was that it was pricey, but then, this restaurant is located in a high demand area, Sansome street is popular these days.

Nice well run restaurant

By Prawet J |

I went for dinner during my trip to Philly last month and I am glad I stopped by the place. The staff were cordial, helpful, and kept distance without making me feel ignored. The food as good as one can get (gearing for American taste of Thai food. (I am not complaining here. As a Thai, I probably would like a little stronger taste of what I ordered from set menu). I did not realize that a full menu was also offered until I finished eating because I did not know how to use the ap menu. Instead a set menu (a lot of food), I probably would pick others in the regular menu. Having said all these, this place is worth a try. Good piano and good decoration.

Very nice addition to Walnut St

By Ragtop 2 |

Stoped by early on Saturday night. First ones there but got hopping after a little while. Very good apps very tasty and at happy hour prices. Did not have dinner but everything looked good and if the apps where any indication then would expect dinner to be great as well. Friendly bartender and other staff. Will definitely be back.

Authentic Taste of Thailand

By Herstory_62 |

Along with elegant Thai decor & a full bar, this is as good as it gets along the strip of new bistros on Walnut Street in Center City. The food is superb & portions are generous & since the menu of appetizers, noodles, soups, salads & entrees - to say nothing of specialty desserts - is so enticing, if not overwhelming, we can't wait to visit again!

Very good vegetarian food

By rtaba285 |

Our dinners were well presented, attractive and flavorful. We especially enjoyed that there was a separate vegan section of the menu, with unusual items included. Service was very good-- when a staff member spilled water at our table (which could happen anywhere) the manager was very attentive and responded quickly.

Poor service and bad food

By Ken G |

We had reservations but wait ten minutes for our table Our waiter had little to no knowledge and it took way to long for even our smaller requests it be acted on. Food wise, boring spring rolls. The soup was ok but poor presentation. The crispy mussels were good. For our main course we had the pork belly and the beef short ribs. Absolutely horrible with a tragic presentation The pork belly was gray slabs of undercooked fat. The beef ribs was equally poor. Very over priced. We were very disappointed

Okay At Best

By Krenara D |

So this restaurant seems great from the outside. Lively, full of people & cozy ambience. It’s even great when you first step inside, the aroma of the place is excellent. But then, standing in line for a table is where you first notice the problems in this establishment. Not many servers, yet many many tables full and waiting. Nobody at the front desk to welcome you, it’s a game of “how long can you stand in line without getting sick and tired”. The few waiters they have are rushing around frantically, half heartedly wiping down tables and leaving the cleaning products on the tables for all the patrons to see, and smell that lovely chemical smell that clearly mixes so well with your Pad Thai. The next level of this game commences when you’re seated somewhere in the vast and dark restaurant. Now it’s time to wait for a waiter to notice you and come by. We actually had ordered two starters and two mains, and two drinks. The two starters arrived before the drinks, and surprise! Frozen starter. Nice and ice cold, perfect if you’re in the mood to crack a crown! Next came the expensive mains. They were okay at best, as my title generously explains. Not a lot of flavor, chewy and strange texture in the meat, lavish decor on the plates themselves but actual lavishness missing from the dishes themselves. Super slow service, food not the best but tolerable. Would recommend for a chill vibe if you have nowhere to be for the next two hours. Big upside; the very scarce staff members they have are friendly, and apologetic for the wait and mistakes made!

We had good experience at restaurant. Food was great and the service was good. I would eat here again.

Incredible Thai

By Melissa Lallo Johnson |

This was among the best Thai food I have ever had. We had fried eggplant, autumn rolls, pork skewers, and multiple noodle dishes from both the vegan and regular menus. Everything was a slam dunk. Highly recommended.
