Wow. The food here was great. The staff was friendly and very efficient. We went at about 11:30 am on a Sunday. It was essentially full be we waited less than 5 minutes for a table, though I’m sure at times it is much longer.

Cheryl’s on 12th is as welcoming and friendly as it gets, with tasty home-cooked style food, and plenty indoor and outdoor seating. Love this place!

Loved the interior and how quickly we were seated. Got coffee and water immediately. Can’t eat sugar so was disappointed that they didn’t carry sugar-free syrup for the pancakes. I ordered fresh fruit instead but it was old and I sent it back. Vegetarian eggs with artichokes and hollandaise sauce was good as were the rosemary potatoes. If they only carried sugar-free syrup…

Cheryl's was great! Great food, great drinks, great service. We got to chat with Ed (Cheryl's husband) who was such a lovely man. So kind and generous. Is now a Portland favorite

With COVID most hotels have little or no breakfast. But Cheryl's is close and a great breakfast. Use a shared service (UBER/LIFT), parking and driving are a challenge.

Fantastic visit to Cheryl’s. Great food and fantastic drinks (the iced spiced halo was to die for). I must also say Sunsariay was lovey and gave us great recommendations for our trip.

This place is the best. Super welcoming, who doesn’t like complimentary beignets, and delicious. I went on a food tour and am so glad this was one of the stops! We had a great conversation with Ed and Cheryl the owners and loved every bite of the 4 or 5 dishes we tried. Breakfast sandwich on an apple fritter? Mind blowing.

I enjoyed this restaurant so much I came back, three times. Fabulous apple fritter and egg sandwich with bacon jam. Never had one? Don't! You will love it! Also great bacon and eggs and pancakes and fried rice and eggs and.... well it's all great!

The reviews for this restaurant are spot on. We had a brief wait before sitting down to one of the best breakfasts we've ever had. It started with soft, warm beignets lightly dusted with cinnamon sugar. I had the most amazing scramble of chorizo and green onions, with a flavorful but not too spicy ranchera sauce. My husband had oatmeal with blueberries and bananas, and though disappointed that the berries were frozen rather than fresh as he'd been led to expect, he was impressed with the oatmeal (which is harder to find well prepared than you'd think). Our daughter had the pancakes with lemon curd and blueberries and she just loved them. The bread is made in house and was outstanding - unusually light but chewy. The meal was complimented by excellent service - she was a new server but was friendly and cheerful and very responsive. The restaurant is lively and active but the noise level is not too loud and we never felt either rushed or crowded despite the tables being closer to each other. Altogether this was a great meal for us and we'll make a point of going back next time we find ourselves in Portland.

Three of us dined here for breakfast on a weekday morning. No wait, got a table right away. Two of us split Croque Madame which was delicious, our third party had fried egg sandwich, took half home for next day meal. Food was hot and freshly prepared. Prices were reasonable.

Great food and engaging staff! The menu is varied - an excellent brunch location with a fun and lively atmosphere.

Rating the food only would net this place 4 stars. Rating the service only would net Cheryl's one star, and that's only because we can't go into the negative values with ratings. It started out well enough. We were greeted at the entrance and taken to a table, where the first waitress stopped by with a couple "beignets" and a greeting. (I use quotes around "beignet" because these looked nothing like the fried and powder sugar-dusted confections one receives in New Orleans.) First waitress came back to take our drink order and ask if we had any questions on the menu. We got our drinks in (Dirty Chai [$4.50] with almond milk [+$1.00] for me, Soy Latte [$4.50 for the latte, +$1 for the soy] for him) and asked for more time to peruse the menu. A few minutes later, the waitress came back to tell us she'd been cut loose for the day, and introduced us to a young girl who she said was in training, and would be shadowing a different waitress. Nods and smiles all around, and one more ask from us for time to review the menu. Several minutes later, the new waitress came back with drinks and a different waitress behind her (she was the experienced waitress the new girl was shadowing). The new girl plunked our drinks down in front of us, and said, "Here's the chai with soy and the latte." Now, I mentioned above that we'd ordered specific milks with our drinks, so I asked her to clarify that the drinks were, in fact the dirty chai with almond and the soy latte. She was confused. That confused me. At this point the experienced waitress stepped in, with full attitude on display. Her response to me was, "What's the problem here?" I mean...what?! First of all, hi, customer service. Second of all, weren't you just standing there listening to the whole exchange? A bit perturbed, I repeated that I wanted to confirm that the drinks were what we'd ordered, not what the new girl had stated on serving. The vet waitress literally went, "Yeah, it's the drinks you ordered" before whipping out her order pad and demanding our food orders. Y'all know me. I was about ready to drop $10 on the table and walk out right there, but my husband - the man with the patience of a saint - said we could order and looked at me (that look was, "woman, I'm hungry and don't want to have to search for another breakfast spot. Just give them your order and let's hope they don't spit in our food.") I went with the Portuguese Fried Rice ($14.75) and added an over-easy egg to the top ($1.50). My husband ordered the Chorizo Omelet ($13.95) with white toast and their hashbrowns. No thank you, no courtesy, both waitresses stormed off in search of other innocent patrons to punish. Our food was delivered by yet another waitress, who was at least friendly like the first waitress. She stopped to make sure we had everything we needed, then went on her way. The food was good, I'll give them that. It was also filling and hearty, which we both needed (having dined on nachos and popcorn for dinner at the Blazers game the night before.) The fried rice was about what I'd expected and hoped for, and the add-on egg melded well with the flavors. The linguica sausage was spicy and crispy, which worked with the half avocado that was served on the side. I wasn't able to finish my meal, there was so much of it. My husband did like his omelet, but he said it was more egg than chorizo, which was disappointing. The hashbrowns were interesting - it was more like a potato loaf or casserole, and it was covered in Wheaties flakes. The flakes added a bit of crunch at the beginning of his meal, but trended towards soggy as his meal wore on. He was also unable to finish his meal. During this whole time, our waitresses never once stopped by, much less glanced in our direction. We ate, we finished, and we sat there. For almost 10 minutes, folks, while the waitress duo swept in and out of the area, completely ignoring us. I finally had to flag down another employee, who was at the table next to us, to ask her for our check. That took another five minutes to rustle up, with yet another waitress stopping by to clear our plates and ask if we needed anything else. It's a bit sad, because we did enjoy the food (the drinks were mediocre, by the way). Definitely not a spot we would want to return to, just because I don't like being ignored by the people I'm paying to serve us.

I am a programmer for a local city community center, and our group of seniors (13 people) had the most wonderful experience! The food, ambiance and amazing service that everyone received was top notch! What made it a truly memorable experience was the group getting to meet Cheryl herself, who was so accommodating and generous. Thank you Cheryl❤ , we will be back again and will be singing your praises with our friends and colleagues.

Stepped in for lunch while exploring downtown…great service, fun menu, delicious food. Definitely recommend the Portuguese Fried Rice!

It was father's day and really crowded but the restaurant handles the crowds very well. Our reservation was only slightly delayed and then we got our food within fifteen minutes. The Bloody Marys and food were excellent! Great service also. It's so impressive that a place this popular can be this efficient and maintain great quality food and service. No one got rattled. They were all friendly. Beignets were an included appetizer and they were awesome. As good as new orleans! Thanks for a great father's day experience.

We were in the downtown area looking for an interesting brunch spot and Cheryl's sort of called out to us from across the street. When we went in we found a very welcoming host who literally squeezed us in to a spot so we wouldn't have to wait. There was a great vibe - like everyone was really happy to be in this space. The menu is extensive and the food was good and plentiful. Great spot!!

we had a split a sandwich as it was a little pricey - but didn't review other menus in the area, so it could be the same in other neighborhood restaurants. Staff was friendly, food was good.

The front desk at the Woodlark Hotel recommended Cheryl's as I was looking for a place that opened early. My server, whose name I didn't catch, was cheerful and warm, and the poached eggs, toast and fruit cup were delicious. Coffee could have been stronger and more flavourful, but that's something I've noticed in general about drip coffee in Portland. All in all, a great breakfast for under $12.00

Stopped by here for lunch and was able to get a small table outside on their 'patio.' Service was good and quick and the food was tasty.

We had breakfast at Cheryl's while staying in downtown Portland. We had a wonderful and unusual breakfast. They provide Beignets for the table upon your seating which are right out of the fryer and wonderfully light. My wife and I always order something we wouldn't cook at home, so we ordered the Portugese Fried Rice topped with 2 eggs sunny side up. We asked our waitress, Georgina, if it was a large dish that we could share and she said it was. She was right. It was the perfect amount of food for the 2 of us and was absolutely delicious. We wouldn't typically eat fried rice for breakfast, but in this case it was the perfect morning meal. We would highly recommend Cheryl's. We went on a Saturday morning around 9 and the place was quite busy. They have multiple floors, so the restaurant is bigger than it appears when you first walk in.

We were staying at a downtown hotel, and needed to find a place for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Many of the restaurants were booked, or gave us a 45 minute expected wait time. We stumbled upon Cheryl's and were told 10-15 minutes. It's a charming corner location, all cheerfully decorated for Christmas. Very inviting interior with a coffee bar/bakery/to-go section, and plenty of seating. They don't take reservations, so you just put your name in and wait in the chairs in the entry. They handed us menus to peruse while we waited. It didn't take long for our party of four to be seated next to the windows. They give you yummy complimentary beignets while you are waiting for your food. Waiter was prompt and friendly...he told us about their particular specials, including the Portuguese rice breakfast dish. We went with more traditional breakfasts like Eggs Benedict, Huevos Rancheros, corn beef hash, and the delicious Ed's Scramble. Food was excellent with larger portions than we could finish. Will definitely head back here again on our next visit to Portland.

I live across the street and walk by this place daily. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME. I have never been impressed by the food I see. Today I woke up so hungry that I didn’t want to walk any further. Yes, THAT hungry and still couldn’t eat the food. In all fairness, the staff is AWESOME! The complimentary “beignet” arrives and is delicious, but it’s not a beignet, it’s a popover with sugar. I don’t like Bloody Mary’s unless they are exceptional, so I rarely order them and only when I’m starving (because I want to eat all the stuff!) I always order them “short” because I’m not going to actually drink it, I just like to soak all the stuff in it. Apparently, the bartender doesn’t know how to use a small glass. I explained what I wanted quite clearly. So... the drink arrives in a tall glass with NO stuff. I set it aside and was ready to order a different drink. My food arrived via ‘runner’ (which I am not a fan of because they generally drop it and actually run). Crab Benedict. One egg over cooked, the other severely undercooked, and my first bite was pure crab shell. I nearly choked. ... oh! And there were cornflakes on my potatoes which is disgusting (IMO). Walked over to Tasty n Alder and am in pure BLISS.

While neither of us were in the mood for savory, the Portuguese fried rice looked like an amazing breakfast option. Another day perhaps. We did try both the croque madame and the lemon blueberry french toast, splitting them an trying each. Equally amazing in their own ways, and certainly the most memorable breakfast in recent memory. Service was amazing as well. Definitely worth another visit.

My wife flew in early Sat morning 6/3/23 @ 8:30 am at PDX from Fresno. I wanted to make her return special - so breakfast at Cheryl's on 12th was my surprise to her. The couple sitting next to us was from San Jose, CA celebrating their 10th Anniversary. They had gorgeous looking drinks to go with their breakfast - a Bloody Mary and an Espresso Martini. We ordered 2 Espresso Martinis to go with her Portuguese Fried Rice with an Egg and my Huevos Rancheros with Bacon. Before the meal was served - 2 Complimentary warm Beignets with sugar were served. Absolutely divine! When the drinks and meals were served we just relaxed and felt very special. Everything we ate and drank was superb. Adrian was our waiter and he provided great service. the wait staff are all dressed in black and they scurry around effortlessly taking care of all the customers. This is my favorite go to place for breakfast and it has never disappointed.

FOOD & SERVICE was amazing and delicious!!! (dined on 8/30/2024 at 3:30pm with 3 adults for late lunch) Enjoyed: -Yucatan Bowl -Thai Salad w/chicken (huge salad! you can share w/2 people) -Half order of the Portaguese Fried Rice w/egg (SOOO yummy!) Our server Samara was super nice and friendly!

Great food, great location and atmosphere! The fresh OJ was delicious! First day I had the veggie omelette...delicious! The second day I ordered a breakfast sandwich which I also enjoyed!

Our hotel recommend this place for breakfast and good coffee. We were not disappointed firstly the coffee was so good. The meals are so big you don't need lunch and so delicious but the hash browns are very strange but give them a try. Latte so good had two.

The complimentary beignets are based on a pate a choux dough are incredibly light and delicious! I had the breakfast fried rice with an easy egg. My wife had the quevos rancheros and both were very good. Service was friendly and attentive. G

We ate at Cheryl's 3 times over a 4 day visit to Portland earlier this month: 2 breakfast meals and 1 lunch. What a great place! Service was wonderful and the food delicious! We loved the beignets and the meal portions were generous.

Terrific food and very friendly and helpful staff, particularly our server Sherry. If it's the first time you go there you get a free sample of one of their specialties. We were given the grilled fig and goat cheese sandwich which was unique and delicious. I order the short rib quesadilla for mains (lunch) which was quite good.

This place is consistently busy but wait times are pretty short. If it’s nice out, sit outside and people watch. Parking by the restaurant is tricky at best, but a block or so away is generally pretty easy to find. The complimentary beignets, are soo good. The coffee is nice and not overly roasted. Of all the offerings on the breakfast menu, there is really only one choice to make: the Portuguese Fried Rice. A mountain of awesome, get the fried egg on top and let the yoke soak in to the goodness. The Bloody Marys are tasty as well!

We were happy to find this place with friendly staff and great service. Everything we tried was excellent and reasonably priced.

Had a great breakfast this morning. Minimal wait time. My daughter ordered the pancakes with lemon curd. My wife ordered the Apple Frittwich. I ordered the corned beef hash. All was yummy. Our waitress (Cristin) was one of those people that just shows up knowing what you want. When I ordered she suggested I put avocado on top (yes, please! ). Then after my meal arrived, she stopped by to ask if we needed anything. I wanted more coffee and hot sauce/ ketchup, but the words wouldn't come. Instead I did this vague circular pointing motion over my food. Cristin said, "More coffee and hot sauce/ ketchup? " Yes, and what am I think now?

Great food! Beignets as an amuse buche (for breakfast). Great drip coffee and espresso drinks! Bacon is awesome, fried rice sample was great! Green omelet was good as were the fried eggs, cooked 3 ways, basted over easy over medium. Service was a bit troubled in the back room…

After we had this place the first day, we ate here for breakfast...every day after. the food was amazing. great environment and good mimosa

Our party of 5 stopped in for Saturday brunch. We waited a short while for a table (this is a popular spot) but didn't wait too long to be seated - actually a table was available before our full party had arrived. The service was attentive and our food order came out very fast.

First day in Portland, myself and friends were guided by a lovely soul (he saw us lost looking around) towards Cheryl’s. What a lovely spot. The place is casual with a nice vibe. The menus has plenty to choose from and the food was great. I had the Caesar salad with salmon. Very good. My friends lunches were fantastic as well. I would go back to Cheryls for sure

The food was good and we enjoyed being seated on the street to people watch. I had the corned beef hash & my wife had the house special indonesian fried rice. Both were good, but the fired rice was better. It has some mysterious flavor I could not identify. Portions were a little smaller than I like, but I eat a lot. Servie was good and they start you off with complementary beignets.

It was packed when we arrived (a good sign) for lunch. Luckily there was a table for two free. Service was excellent, our waitress really knew what she was doing and she did it very well indeed. Coffee was good and plentiful. The Portuguese fried rice with linguica sausage was delicious: hot and tasty and plentiful! So large it beat us. The chilli was excellent; the meat was incredible tender, good aromatics and the right hit of spice. The carrot cake was superb - most American cakes I find too sweet for my dry, English palette(!) and this was certainly not sweet - the sugar hit was all in the icing which you can eat/avoid as you want. Do go- its worth it.

Went for brunch on a weekday at 10 a.m. and had no trouble getting a table. We had scrambles, and the food was good. Service took some time. No one came to our table for ages, while people who were seated after us had their orders taken. Finally had a server pick up our table. Ordered an orange juice that never came, but the food did come out of the kitchen really fast.

Had a lovely bunch outside on a warm Portland morning, the service was attentive both inside and out and the food quick to arrives Really interesting selection on the menu for brunch, really enjoyed the Portuguese rice for breakfast …. Savory, peppery and flavorsome and a cream covered in hot sauce. This is the classic diner with a modern twist - would certainly be back!

Thank you so much for helping us create an unforgettable memory of a celebration! The staff truly cared about our experience and I was so moved and inspired by such kindness we received! The food is absolutely amazing – truly the best in PDX! And the service we received from the management team and the servers is UNMATCHED!! Just an amazing dining experience all around! Thank you, Cheryl's on 12th for everything!!!

The restaurant is known for its good breakfast, as shown by the rush on Sunday mornings shortly after opening. It was also very good (and a lot), although expensive. All in all, my expectations of the Huelvos Rancheros were probably a bit too high, but the pancakes were first class.

In November of 2019, my wife and I went to Portland Oregon and were told about, Cheryl’s on 12th, which in a city of amazing restaurants immediately became our favorite. The food had a terrific fresh taste and texture. The salad greens were local-fresh and rich with flavors I didn’t realize a salad could have. The leaves were firm and the deep green of the old growth trees making up the forests in Oregon. We ended up eating there four times in a four day stay. We went for breakfast, the eggs were perfect, lunch twice and had an early dinner once. During our breakfast visit, a gentleman who worked for Cheryl’s stopped by our table to check on us to make sure everything was going well. He asked where we were from and we told him the Northeast and we got to talking about how we had arrived in Portland. We told him about how we had, for the experience, taken the train across country and he asked if he could take a seat. We ended up talking for our entire meal which was a comfortable, slow experience rather than the assembly-line feel of many restaurants. As the conversation went on we discovered that our guest was Ed Casey (which I suppose made us his guests really), one of the owners of the restaurant. His wife Cheryl (for whom the eatery is named) found a minute to stop by and say hi as well. Before we had finished our amazing breakfast we had made two friends. What more can you ask from a meal at a restaurant. If you’re in Portland, Oregon and you’re looking for a great breakfast/lunch place stop by Cheryl’s on 12th. The food is fantastic, and there is plenty of it. The service is amazing, friendly and fun. The prices can’t be beat in a city that is quickly turning into San Francisco-North. And you may make a friend of the owners who are both fascinating, fun people.

Cheryl’s was busy when I got there but the staff was super helpful; they accommodated me very quickly and got me some water and bread without asking, which was pretty cool. The food was very good and the cheese hash browns was incredible.

We did the online reservations and walked right in on a busy Sunday morning. Ivin was our server and he was great with our large party. Very attentive and patient. Our order was delivered quickly, warm and yummy! The food was AMAZING, very accommodating to our dietary needs. Would highly recommend! 10 out of 10!

Sat outside on the patio. Waiter was right there. Brought coffee. I was torn between eggs Benedict, huevos rancheros, or green chili chorizo omelette. He suggested the omelette. That what I ordered, but with extra green chili. It was delicious! The cheesy hash browns, toast. Then he brought out a complementary beniet. All outstanding. Gave 5 stars cause not only was food great, service was great.

Amazing breakfast! My hubby had the Portuguese rice; I had a veggie omelet - both very tasty! The espresso drinks were stellar as well! Good food for sure!

Eating breakfast for lunch on the weekends is a wonderful experience at Cheryl's. We had to wait just 5 minutes for a table to open after 2 p.m. Although there are several outdoor tables (and little cabanas), we ate indoors on a rather cool day. Service was immediate, and thorough. We were served complimentary cinnamon sugar covered homemade beignets -- piping hot with a soft center. Delicious!! I ordered a wonderful dish of corned beef hash with 2 over easy eggs, cooked extra crispy. Outstanding! My friend ordered the veggie scramble which she enjoyed immensely. Two standard coffees delivered with constant refilling, a nice touch. This is a Portland favorite. Go early or get on a list.

Made a reservation and was seated right away. Server was very pleasant. Wife had a bowl and I the pork sandwich. Both were good although the French fries I had were cold and soggy. Very very noisy. Would we go back????🤷♂️.

Perfect place for breakfast or brunch. Smiling Welcoming, great choice, it is fresh and very good. Pancakes in particular were great.

This was the absolute best breakfast we had in Portland over out 6 day stay and I totally regret not going back to it before we left. It was a little busy when we entered, but from the moment we walked in we were warmly greeted and promptly seated. It was a lot of activity from all the dinners, staff, and open kitchen, but still comfortable and not to disruptive to the dining experience. Since on vacation, we started with morning libations. Their bloody mary was fairly impressive, but their unique mimosas is what really got my attention. Ordered a rose mimosa and it was a very light and delicate drink beautifully served with an orchid floating in it. The egg sardou and crab mornay were decedent delights. Both rich with flavors and textures from the different layering of ingredients. The crab mornay was amazing with it's large chunks of crab while the egg sardou was an interest variation of eggs benedict using artichoke hearts which was a different yet pleasant twist of ingredients. On top of all that, the coffee was really good as well. They made a perfect latte. I have to say, that this is a must do for breakfast while visiting in Portland and defiantly will make it the first to do when visiting this wonderful city again.

Super friendly staff; kudos to them. Nice spot to catch a very good breakfast with lots of variety on the menu. Busy with reasonably fast turnover.

The atmosphere was great. The staff was friendly with great suggestions. The food was absolutely amazing. Our hotel's front desk staff recommended this place, and I'm so glad they did. I highly recommend the Portuguese Fried Rice!

It was snowing and we had a warm hearty breakfast in a heated pod. Service was excellent and the food was great! We started off with delicious complimentary beignets and coffee. I got to try the fried rice which they're known for (good choice) and corn beef hash. I must say they really made the most of it during covid

Good basic food, extra cheesy hashbrowns were too heavy for either of the people in my party who had them. Biscuits and gravy were a good texture but not a lot of sausage or flavor. Coffees were great! Excellent service, arrived for reservation right on time and table was ready, no wait even though they were busy. Probably will not be back, sorry.

Had the Portuguese rice and crab eggs benedict. The food is just ok but the service here is pretty good. The staff is super efficient in the midst of the busy status of this restaurant on a weekend brunch. Im glad I tried it, im not sure if im a return customer. I like Mothers much much more.

We went on a Sunday and it looked crowded but only 10-15 min wait. My husband and I shared Fish tacos and a vegetable curry rice bowl and both very good. We also got complimentary beignets which were perfect - hot out of the oven. We sat inside and it was lively and bright. Will definitely come back next time in Portland.

Such a cute place. The food is delicious, there appear to be numerous locals that come here, and the staff is incredibly friendly. Also they give you fresh beignets. it doesn’t get any better than that.

Biscuits & Gravy (1) Scramble (3) Delivery (3) forgot silverware Coffee (3) We were staying at the Benson and decided to order in. Ordering was easy, and delivery was timely. The person who delivered was nice and friendly, but this is when things go sour. They forgot silverware, so we had to get it from the Benson. I ordered the biscuit and gravy, and it was terrible. My wife ordered the scramble and said it was OK. We also had coffee, and it was average. We cannot recommend, at least for delivery.

We came to Cheryl’s on a whim, and it was a fantastic whim! My husband got the eggs Benedict and I the croque madam. It was more than amazing! The cheesy hashbrowns are a good choice, trust me. 😊 Served with two bite sized beignets with a light dusting of sugar (those were free), and great coffee.

Our Uber driver recommended Cheryl’s and as a 50 year old man that seen a lot and done a lot in my life, I swear that this is the best breakfast that I have ever had. Had the fried egg sandwich with sausage and the cheesy hash browns. This place is not just going through the motion like most breakfast joints. The flavor and pure deliciousness in each and every bite were simply amazing. Highly recommend!!!

Cheryl’s serves the best breakfast in Portland hands down! One glance at the menu and you cannot make up your mind what delectable items to try first. They’re ALL good. I will miss this when I return to NYC.

We looked on Yelp for a good breakfast place near our hotel in Portland and Cheryl’s was highly rated. Service was good but the food was so so with fairly high prices. I had their corned beef hash which was home made but lacked any unique flavor. Lots of meat but I expected a better tasting meal. My wife ordered the eggs Benedict and the eggs came out barely done. White part of eggs were runny and not edible. We should have sent it back but she ate what she could.

Always go to Cheryl's on 12th in Portland when we're in the city. They never disappoint with great service for a tasty late breakfast/brunch.

We had a wonderful meal at Cheryl's! Everyone ordered something different and we all raved about the quality, flavor and quantity. To top it off, I am GF & DF and our waitress was so helpful in guiding me to items that meet my dietary needs. She even gave us a free plate of their signature Portugese fried rice to try which was really delicious as well as GF/DF! I am still craving the rice and will be back for more soon! Highly recommend Cheryl's!

Let me start this by saying that I love brunch. My favorite part of vacation is getting the chance to enjoy a leisurely, delicious brunch and Cheryl's was the perfect choice! I definitely recommend making reservations as even during this unprecedented time, they are still busy. The staff is very friendly, efficient, and is taking safety protocols seriously for everyone's safety. I ordered a lavender mimosa, which was as beautiful as it was tasty.. Our wonderful waitress recommended the Portuguese Fried Rice, which my husband ordered, and I the Croque Montisieur - OMG! 😲 Most delicious "sandwich?" ever. I usually go for sweet dishes, but I am so happy that I opted for this savory dish.

Sometimes you just want a true sandwich. These were huge and layered perfectly. Exactly what we were looking for. My only complaint is too much mayo so I would definitely omit it next time.

I was here on business and stopped in after I read their reviews. Anyone that has been to Hawaii and tried their Portuguese sausage knows how good it is and how hard to find it is on the mainland. This place has a Portuguese fried rice special. I added poached eggs. It was excellent. Good coffee, O J and a friendly waitress. Top notch!

It was almost closing time, so we could not eat outside, but since it wasn't overcrowded inside, we had an enjoyable lunch. The service was good and the food was very good.

There was a group of 8 of us meeting up for a late breakfast. We were seated in the back room. The staff member who was pouring water when we were seated spilled a full glass of water into the lap of one of our party. She apologized, but that was it. I would have hoped that maybe the waitress would be more accomodating about sthe spilled water - maybe by comping a drink? Disappointed with their lack of response.

I completely recommend the French toast with blueberries and lemon for a great start to your day. They bring out a beignet as a starter that was delightful. My daughter had the most beautiful tofu ranchero and loved it also.

They close at 8 pm on weeknights we were in Portland on a Wednesday & Thursday. If I could have I would have eaten all 3 meals at Cheryl's on 12th.

We had the Portuguese fried rice for breakfast and it was amazing. The food and service was great! Definitely one of the best breakfasts in Portland.

After reading a few reviews on TA we came here for breakfast. Extensive menu. The service was impeccable. We enjoyed granola, veggie omelette and portugese fried rice.

Busy spot. Service was quick even though they were packed. Food was great for lunch, yummy mimosas too! Very eclectic menu, friendly staff, great service.

Lovely big space in downtown Portland. Seated quickly, excellent service, food arrived promptly and was delicious. Portions are large so we split our veggie scramble. Staff were very accommodating. Would definitely go back and highly recommend.

Very friendly owners and delicious food! The beignets are the bomb! You absolutely must try them! The Portuguese fried rice with egg and avocado is yummy too! Their desserts and pastries are all tasty - can't go wrong with anything here! The owners were very friendly and took the time to shake our hands and talk to us.

We went to Cheryl's on 12th for breakfast and it was wonderful. I really enjoyed the Portuguese fried rice and my wife loved the apple fritter with egg. If I lived here this would be a regular place for us.

When your breakfast starts off with nine different kinds of mimosas and free beignets, you know you're in for a treat. It was delicious and the service was excellent (thanks, Schuyler - sorry if I misspelled your name). He was willing to let us modify our orders and it came to the table piping hot -- and there's A LOT of it. I would have come back for lunch or dinner, but I ran out of time.

Came here for brunch on our last morning in Portland. It was a Sunday and the wait was about 20-30 mins. Our server was excellent and even recommended a few dishes and breakfast cocktails. The Bloody Mary was superb!

The three of us went here for late lunch based on the reviews here. Neither of us was particularly impressed; it is just a standard American diner style restaurant. I had Salade niçoise, and it was very average (have had it in France also). My wife and son were also not impressed with their dishes. Don't get me wrong, it is not bad per se, and what you get is fine, just not very interesting in flavor or presentation.

Ed and Cheryl, owners of Cheryl’s on 12th are fascinating people and excellent restrateurs. The brunch is to die for with many menu options created by Cheryl herself such as the Croque Monsier sandwich that is to die for. My son loves the Apple Frittwich. Who would have thought to stuff an apple fritter and make it a sandwich! My husband was so excited to find Portuguese Fried Rice, a staple in Hawaii on the menu. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Portland!

Well Covid-19 has really brought the city to it's knees. Local mandates have crippled many restaurants. Thanks goodness the owner of this restaurant is brave enough to stay open. In spite of the restrictions the food was great. Well prepared and fresh. Our waiter was kind and friendly. We even got to speak to the owner who is actively involved in keeping the place clean and well run. I hope she survives the local governments inability or unwillingness to deal with the issues.

My wife and I are here on our trip to Portland. Great biscuits and gravy. Also try the apple fritterwich you will be surprised how good it is. The staff were awesome and friendly even though the the place was packed. Will go back again.

Our server at Jake's the previous evening suggested Cheryl's for breakfast. It was a great recommendation. We were still rather full from dinner so opted for the steel cut oatmeal (Bob's Red Mill I suspect) and that was just right. The latte took a few sips for me to get used to it; it was a bit stronger than I'm used to. But then -- delicious and very reviving. We're looking forward to getting to a return visit and more tasty food.

We had a wonderful time here this morning. Good food.. good ambience n wonderful service esp by their Jennifer.. smiling.. efficient n spot on!!!

Two for two at Cheryl's. We enjoyed breakfast two days in a row and could not be more pleased. Today waited approximately 45 minutes for a table and worth every moment. Ed, the owner checked on us several times and brought tasty bites to enjoy during our wait and came to our table after seating to assure that all was good. The food is erasable and first rate, The five of us were a mixture of plant based and carnivores who all were delighted with the quality, quantity and service of the food. Coffee and mimosas were exceptional. Do yourself a favor and enjoy Cheryl's on 12th!!!

Went there for breakfast 2 days in a row. They start you off with complimentary beignets that are to die for. The Crab Eggs Benedict was cooked to perfection with a generous amount of lump crab. They also offer lunch and dinner.

I was expecting much better. My eggs Benedict were average at best. It’s my go to breakfast meal and I make tasty EBs at home. The sauce is the key and this sauce was super bland, not butter or lemon taste and a bit granular. Canadian bacon was a little chewy/fatty too. The side of cheesy hash browns was a tasteless glop surprisingly. My BFs French toast was excellent so if I were to go back I’d avoid the Benedicts.

We had dinner there and the food was very good. The waitress was very friendly but busy so we had a hard time trying to get her attention as she was waiting on people outside as well as inside. But that was no problem and we would definitely go there again.

Good meal. Large portions. Friendly and reliable service. Their cinnamon bun was HUGE. Came here for brunch, which was recommended by the hotel. It was really good, but standard. Would have liked something that was a little more Portland authentic.

Outstanding brunch! Our adult daughter and son-in-law suggested this restaurant and it was an awesome suggestion. We tried the Croque Madame ($19.) the Apple Frittwich ($16), the Egg Sandwich ($16) and the Eggs Benedict ($18). All were served with cheesy hash browns - and the portions were huge. Not one of us were able to finish! Everything was excellent. That you to Cheryl’s for taking reservations (many breakfast/brunch) restaurants in Portland do not.

Breakfast at Cheryl’s was amazing. I had the corned beef hash with two eggs over easy on top. WOW! Had a bite of the eggs benedict. Again, delicious. Very friendly wait staff. Can’t go wrong eating breakfast here.

Make this a definite stop for breakfast in downtown Portland if you can. The online hype is well deserved and the menu is eclectic and nothing disappoints. Breakfast places tend to mesh together at times but this place has a great environment and fun staff that is proud to discuss their specialty plates. Great Bloody Mary. And their location lends to a cool area to walk around before or after dining. Cool spot.

Complimentary beignet, Ed’s Scramble, Iced Latte were all amazing. They are very popular and I see why! More known for their breakfast but have lunch and dinner options.

I was staying right next door with my partner and had gone online beforehand and scouted out nearby places to eat. This looked good, and we were not disappointed. The complimentary beignets to start were a delicious surprise, and the food was excellent and generously portioned. We went back a couple of times during our stay and were happy about it each time. Once or twice we had to ask for things from our servers, who were run off their feet, but they were prompt and cheerful about it. My only tiny criticism is the coffee, which was OK, but wasn't quite up to the very high standards of other Portland coffee we experienced. I'd absolutely go back if I visit the city again.

We showed up right before it got super busy, on a Sunday morning about 9ish. We opted to sit in a heated mini greenhouse and had friendly and prompt service. The beignets pre-breakfast were much appreciated (first day in from the East Coast and our stomachs thought it was noon). The menu is delightful.... I opted for the Apple Frittwich and all I can say is omg it was heaven on a plate. A fresh apple fritter with a fried egg, cheddar, bacon, and arugula with an onion confit. The crab eggs benedict looked amazing too. Going back daily for the remainder of our stay and promise to have salad for lunch.

This is a cute little place to eat we went for breakfast and I had the fritawhich and it was absolutely delicious. I recommend this place to anyone visiting portland.

Oh my god, the Croque Madame was insane! And cheesy potatoes on the side? I literally wanted to lick my plate. We all enjoyed our breakfasts and if we'd had time, we would have gone again. Amazing food, great staff, great location.

Per our hotel, this was a good place to eat so we decided to give them a try. We went for breakfast, and I had the Portuguese fried rice and my boyfriend had the prime rib Benedict. I wasn’t wowed by the fried rice. It had too much of a pepper flavor for me. My boyfriend did enjoy his Benedict a lot. The next day we shared corned beef hash and really enjoyed it. I would come back again as they have tons of options to choose from, and they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Located on the edge of The Pearl District, Cheryl's is a great find for breakfast or lunch. We ate there for both and loved the food both times. Friendly staff, great food, good location. The lemon curd blueberry pancakes are a work of art.

We were looking for a restaurant that opens early. And Cheryl's fit the bill-and the food was good. Service was quick Sebastia was working the entire place it seemed and yet had a good attitude.

We showed up on a Saturday morning and it was pretty busy. We were staying downtown and here to watch the NCAA women’s basketball tournament. I was worried the wait would be long. Not at all! We were sitting down at a table in less than 10 minutes (even when packed!) our Server was quick to see us, make sure we had drinks and a menu. We received our food in great time as well. Great selection of different foods and for different dietary needs! I’m dairy free and had the green omelette but subbed with goat cheese (my first time trying it) and it was delicious! The OJ is fresh squeezed and reasonably priced for its size. I was pleasantly surprised! Daughter had the chorizo breakfast burrito and it’s big and again delicious. Hubby had the basic eggs breakfast and was happily well fed. My biggest takeaway, it’s not cheap to eat out these days, but they are well priced, the portions are more than enough, the service is pretty fast, the servers are pleasant, and when I got the bill I felt it was very reasonably priced! Definitely got a bang for my buck. We will definitely be back here if in town again.

Amazing and beautiful place to have one of the best breakfasts so far in USA. Nice variety of meals option from vegan to heavily meat

We spent the morning shopping and were starving, so we took someone’s recommendation to try Cheryl’s, it was slammed!! We only waited for about 2 minutes for a table, because they have sooo much seating! The atmosphere is top notch, very social, summer air drifting in, it was perfect. Our server was prompt, friendly and brought us French Beignets! What a delight! (They do this for everyone, we loved it!) The food was perfectly prepared and modestly affordable, Brunch prices for the area. They serve a decent house coffee and are very attentive to top of waters and coffee. We never ran out of either. The menu is broad and I cannot wait to go back! New favorite find!!

Had a wonderful breakfast at Cheryl's (recommended by our hotel), and returned the next day to try other things on the menu. They're known for their Portuguese Fried Rice, which I thought was great, and my wife's biscuits and sausage was surprisingly good (if a little on the sweet side). Hash browns seem to be another popular dish, and the corned beef hash is basically some hash browns with some shredded corned beef mixed in (delicious, but not what you find elsewhere). Highly recommend.

WOW! Kudos to Cheryl's for providing my family with a fabulous catering experience. I had to plan a catered dinner for a family reunion and I live out of state. The staff that I worked with over the phone to try to coordinate this dinner were stellar as I had to change our numbers frequently. A special shout out to Lindsey for helping with this. Rose was exceptional in setting up and clearing our banquet on the night of our dinner. I was so impressed with how everything looked and was presented. We ordered a build your own bowl buffet with some kid's meals and the food was fabulous (and we have a picky crew). I had many complements from our family members. Because of our positive experience with the catering, we went to Cheryl's to eat breakfast. Again, the kindness we received from Steven, our waiter, was above and beyond. He even introduced us to one of the owners, Ed, who gifted our table with a small bag of granola. We were going on a hike that day. Truly, it was such a kind gesture and the granola was enjoyed by our group. Thank you for bringing a smile to our faces on multiple days. Keep up the great work!

Food and service are amazing. Diverse menu to fit everyone’s palate. Great cocktails and full coffee bar. Service was fast and friendly on a busy Easter Sunday…. We did not have reservations but were cheerfully accommodated. Eggs Benedict was perfect. Hubby had breakfast burrito he said was awesome. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic food drinks and service. We went on Labor Day weekend in a couples trip and then back again at the end of September with our children. Highly recommend Cheryl’s, we man’s a reservation twice but walked in on another occasion but I’d recommend a reservation just to be sure to have a seat it can get very busy.

We were walking around downtown Portland and came upon Cheryl’s and loved our brunch/lunch! The place was busy but the staff was calm and friendly and quickly found us a two seater table and by the window to boot. All of the food looked amazing but we settled on a croque monsieur with cheesy hash browns for me and a vegan wrap for my friend. We also had a round of mimosas with orange juice and grapefruit juice for us separately. Before our meal came out we received a plate of beignets which were hot and fresh and delicious with a dusting of sugar. I ate pretty much everything on my plate and found the portions to be filling. Throughout our meal the staff was friendly and attentive. All around a great experience! Highly recommend.

We went to this spot based on Trip Advisor reviews and were really disappointed. The place is cute and was packed with people for Thursday lunch/brunch. The only reason it got any stars at all was because the service was good and fast. I would have preferred they take more time and make the food better. My husband had the Grinder (Italian sub) and the roll was so big and doughy that it totally overwhelmed any filling. I tried the biscuits and sausage gravy, usually a favorite of mine. The gravy was so thick that it was almost like eating mashed potatoes and I had to really search for a few small bits of sausage. I could understand the lack of actual sausage if the gravy had even a hint of sausage flavor, but it had virtually no flavor at all - kind of like mashed potatoes. The menu is huge so maybe we ordered the wrong thing, but we won't be giving it a second chance.

Really good French toast. If you’re from the U.K., share a portion. It is MASSIVE! 6 slices of bread. I almost had a heart attack after eating it, but would have died happy as it was delicious. Excellent coffee too. Nice service. Only docked one star as I felt a bit rushed out - it was getting busy - and it was very chilly inside!

Oh my what great food and service.. we had the Portuguese rice and croque monsieur.. both dishes were delicious.. coffee was good too..so glad we found this place ☺️

Excellent service: friendly, very on top of things, brought out some taster plates, and the dishes came out really fast. Delicious food: green omelet, Portuguese fried rice, croque madame (and more), all was good. (Probably the weakest dish with our group were the pancakes, but they were still good.) Fair prices for the quality and quantity of food, and for the great service. There's only street parking, which is a downside, but we actually didn't have any issue finding a spot right out front (on a weekday morning).

Service was great. We came straight from our flight and still had our bags. They were super accommodating and got us a table that we could keep our bags at. All the food was delicious!

Wow the food was amazing. We had the pot roast with rice and carrots and potatoes as well as the cranberry chicken. Everything was spectacular.

The wait for a table was about 15 minutes on this sunny, crisp Portland day. Lunch crowd was busy. Servers brought by coffee and Croque Monsieur samples. My son had that sandwich, my wife the chicken and pear sandwich, and I the roast beef dip. We also had cocktails ( I had a iced coffee nudge, mmmmmm). Service was quick and efficient. The food was delicious! This was our first visit though definitely not our last.

Service was excellent. The breakfast was delicious. Worth the wait to get in. Make reservations; gets crowd.

All our meals here were very good. A lot of vegetarian choices. The Santa Fe Pasta was outstanding! Definitely recommend it.

First, I was initially impressed when I called to make a reservation. The person on the other side of the phone was extremely friendly, helpful, inviting and accommodating. Upon arriving at the restaurant, which is very conveniently placed and easy to get to, I was met by very attentive, sparkly, talkative and helpful staff member and was seated immediately. The greeter, I later found out, just happened to be the restaurant owners’ daughter. She was amazing! She was extremely informative, about the menu, the history of the restaurant, how it got started and how they ended up at their currently location. She made us feel like she wanted us to be there, and not like she was in a rush to get someone else in the door, which always transmits a sense of business confidence and ownership of the quality of the product the business has to offer. After taking her time with us, she eventually introduced us to our waitress (Mercedes) who was definitely on point. Our food was ordered and on the table within minutes, but before our orders were brought out, they continuously checked on us and brought out fresh Beignets for us to taste while we waited. Honestly, I could go on for a few minutes, writing great details about the quality of the service but I will summarize it and spare you the long dragged-out description by letting you know the services is hands down 1000 out 10. Now the Food: I was there for breakfast and based on the owner’s daughter’s recommendation I had the Portuguese Fired Rice. She recommended as one of the restaurant's staple platters and OMG I am so glad I went for it over other staple platters. I came into the restaurant with a desire to eat corned beef for breakfast, so I also order a side of Corned-beef when I initially ordered my Portuguese Fried Rice not realizing how much food I had just ordered. The portion was huge and at first, I thought I was not going to be able to eat it all, but then I took ONE bite! “It was at this point; I knew I screwed up” I could not put the damn fork down after my initial bite! The side of Corned Beef ended up getting mixed in my main plate and complemented it quite well, but it quickly disappeared along with everything else. I WAS STUFFED!!! but the food was heaven on earth and each time I took a bite, my mouth just exploded with flavor, perfect texture, balanced salt to spice ratios and it was all sprinkled with a very pleasant after-taste left behind by the abundantly yet perfectly/evenly distributed pieces of Linguica sausage and bacon. As I write this and remember the experience my mouth just started watering. The platter has linguica sausage over bacon and egg fried rice, with green onion and sliced avocado topped by two fried eggs. Then, top it off, we ordered mimosas, but all the varieties of flavor choices sounded absolutely delicious and left me somewhat disappointed that I couldn't taste them all. Well, I was not disappointed for long, because they offered us a combo, which entailed getting a whole bottle of Champaign with 4 different types of juice mixtures that could be shared. That was definitely worth it and absolutely tasty. At the end, my girlfriend had not finished her entire plate and they were super insistent (In an extremely pleasant way) that she should take her leftovers to go, and to top things off they gave her one of their signature cinnamon rolls to go as lagniappe. OVERALL THIS PLACE IS PHENOMENAL!!!!

I did not know this when I first came to Portland, but apparently brunch is very important/popular here. Fortunately we picked an excellent place for brunch our first full day in town. The service was very friendly but not intrusive, the coffee was delicious, and the meals were terrific. And as others have mentioned, you are served free beignets while waiting for your meal. I would suggest going mid week if possible as I happened to walk by one Saturday (in January) and there was quite a crowd waiting outside.

My daughters and I stopped by here to have lunch and were not let down by our choice! The food was flavorful and the service was great. Will definitely try to make it back here next time I’m in town.

This is a comfortable place. Good French Toast and Applewood Bacon. Service was almost too intense for early morning.

Great spot. Plentiful, friendly staff, and quick service. Tasty food in large portions. Free beignets nice touch. Vegetarian options

Very popular for breakfast with extensive menu, large portions and friendly staff. Really nice feel to the place. Recommend it!

Fresh hot beignets served during the short wait for your order to arrive, eclectic full menu, delicious food, and brilliant service.

Top notch, friendly service here! Everyone was on their “A Game!” Food was amazing! I was also impressed w how they decorated so well for Easter. Our wait staff person said they decorate gor every holiday. I love it!! My husband and I only have the highest praise for this fine establishment! From now on, every time we are visiting back in Portland we will make sure we have breakfast here at least once!

My husband and I split a fried rice with an egg on top. It was delicious, the service was excellent, and the ambience was very nice. Highly recommend!

My wife and I were visiting Portland and my daughter-in-law suggested breakfast at Cheryl's which she loves. We ere seated outside in a crowded tented area. The waitress was very helpful, but something happened in the kitchen. My wife and daughter-in- law enjoyed their Benedicts (one had traditional eggs and one had crab). I ordered two fried eggs and corn beef hash. The hash was tasty, but hardly warm, the fried eggs were cold and the toast was not toasted. Thus, a mixed review.

This was a delightful spot we found right before heading to the airport. Creative outdoor seating to space people. Fantastic menu with a great variety of not only food but drinks. Server was great and they set good boundaries around time sitting at the restaurant and rules about the masks so everyone was on the same page. Good was great! I only wish I would have tried a coffee!

For breakfast, our hotel recommended Cheryl's during our recent 2-day stay in Portland. We enjoyed this cafe very much, a very pleasant, friendly, and relaxing place for breakfast. It fits so wonderfully into the cool, informal Portland downtown vibe. The breakfasts are creative and excellent. We had their Portuguese fried rice served with linquica sausage and a fried egg on top over chopped bacon and egg ; their fit scramble with quinoa, parsley, egg whites, and vegetables; and their chorizo omelet served with a really creative take on hash browns. All delicious. Service was very attentive. I liked that their servers all pitched in and helped each other with the various duties of keeping the customers happy. Our breakfast cost ranged between $24-$31 plus tip, -- conventional price for a quality breakfast.

We went out as a couple Out of 5, we rated this place: Great food. Flavor 5, presentation 3, quantity: 5 Service. Knowledgeable 5, friendly5 timely 5 (Super fast) Atmosphere/ ambiance. Vibe 4(loud) decor 4, music: 2 too loud to hear. Menu variety: 4 all good diner food Value for the money: 4 Overall: 5 Best thing/ must try: the donut hole thingies and Portuguese fried rice. Dienstag Essen Verein, Portland branch

very good highly recommended. I think the best thing about this place is it's some churro balls that you get when you get there. the food is very good and the atmosphere very pleasant is very worth it.

I'd give this restaurant 3 stars; my husband would give it 5. I'll split the difference. I got the Portugese fried rice - I did not love it at all, but my husband did. He got the croque monsieur, and loved it. However, the service was quick, the atmosphere was fun. It was a little expensive for what I felt the quality was, but I can see why it is popular.

Very popular restaurant in Portland, for 2 of us we waited less than 2 minutes for an inside seat on. Saturday at 930am. It was very highly recommended by the hotel we were staying, and within walking distance (3 minute walk from The Mark Spencer Hotel). Food was good, the service was excellent and served very fast and hot. The cheese hash browns were very good.

Ordered breakfast for carry out the veggie scramble and cheesy hash browns. So many veggies in the scramble and topped with slices avocado just right ripeness. The cheesy has browns were shredded potato just done enough with cheese and a crusty top. Very tasty. Little beignets thrown in too! Be sure to ask for utensils though, I forgot and they weren't included. The hostess and the manager Mr Almaguer were so friendly and professional.

I really do enjoy this downtown spot! I stopped in here for breakfast this morning and ordered the croque madame, and it was really tasty. It came with a complimentary bignet, which was light and fluffy! The sandwich was pretty good - had a slight grainy texture to it, but the overeasy egg was done perfectly. Excellent service - a bit of a tight squeeze with the tables pushed together though. This place easily gets four stars from me - will return!

We had a great breakfast outside the restaurant and what a selection they have! Eggs Benedict were popular at our table and the coffee was better than I expected. We were so focused on starting our day on a good note that we didn’t look at what they had for a lunch menu so we’ll go back. Service was very good and there is a convenient parking facility across the street

Good breakfast and coffee with very friendly service in the centre of town. After reading reviews online I came here as it was close to my hotel. I didn't regret it - liked it here. It was quite busy but we we're lucky to get a good table in time... Would come back if again in town

We visited Cheryl's two times for breakfast on our visit to Portland. The first time was a busy Friday morning. I was wowed by the Portuguese Sausage and Fried RIce Breakfast - delicious and enough to share, but a bit pricey. The complimentary beignets were tasty and light. The second time was on a Thursday morning and was less impressive. The beignets were very greasy and my veggie scramble was a bit heavy on the overcooked broccoli smell. Not sure if it was an off day, or if items weren't moving as fast on a slower morning. Both days we had the same friendly and efficient server.

Very friendly staff, some interesting dishes, fresh and delicious. I would suggest eating inside currently as there’s a lot of construction across the street. French toast with all the extra fixings was awesome! Just wish it was a little bigger serving size.

Wow, what a difference a few hundred feet make. Having been turned away from a nearby restaurant we stumbled upon this gem. From start to finish, the warm greeting from the hostess, the accommodation for our grandson, the prompt and friendly server, the complimentary beignets and the exceptional meal; all were such a pleasant surprise that I felt compelled to share with the Trip Advisor universe. Simple food done simply well. Quality without over the top pricing and ample choices make this a sure fire meal for your downtown meal.

Superb spot for breakfast. Huge menu with something for everyone including the vegan in our party. The food was excellent, all plates cleared. I was particularly impressed by the serving staff. All bright, sparky & efficient. We were served by Jennifer who was lovely. It makes such a difference to the enjoyment of a meal when the service is good.

This place is a must visit for breakfast or lunch… Absolutely love the ambience the service what great host Food is delicious Thank you such as an amazing experience We went twice on our 3 days trip… What we have Home made granola Salmon Egg Benedict Chai latte with regular or oats milk We were served by Sabrina what a great host and serve and we went back again to be served by her… Thank you for the lovely experience we had… Btw they also sell their homemade granola and we got back back for ourselves… it’s definitely the most amazing granola I have ever had…

Every time we pass by Cheryl’s, there is a crowd of people...and the online reviews are all pretty exceptional. So, today, with mother-in-law in town, we decided to give Cheryl’s a try for lunch. Once again it was crowded, and we felt lucky to score the last available table. First observation, the interior is very loud, so keep that in mind if you want to have conversation, especially with an older person. Second observation, our server was prompt, super friendly and very attentive. Thirdly, the menu is fairly extensive with many different offerings for all tastes. My husband ordered the turkey cranberry sandwich, my mother-in-law the goat cheese and fig panini. Unfortunately, I selected the Thai Salad which piqued my interest but turned out to be one of the most disappointing $18 salads I’ve ever had at a restaurant. To say it was ‘meh’ would be a compliment. Quite literally, it was a bowl of soggy greens with some julienned carrots, a handful of cashews and topped with very dry, stringy chicken breast. How the lettuce could be soggy, yet underdressed is anyone’s guess. Likely it was pre-prepared in the morning and left refrigerated. Additionally, it was solidly flavorless to an extreme. Where was the basil that was promised? Maybe a little cilantro would help. Some mint? Edamame? Scallions? Just a few suggestions. I asked the server for extra salad dressing, but it didn’t really help. Overall, it was utterly bland...except for the 2 oddly misplaced parmesan tuiles on top. But even those were a fail...they should have been crunchy, not chewy...and what were they doing on a Thai salad in the first place?! Parmesan cheese in Thailand? Confuzzling. I’d like to say that I would return to Cheryl’s to give it another try, but honestly, my husband said his lunch was just “fine,” and mine was so disappointing that, really, why bother? Even the hot-out-of-the-fryer beignets weren’t enough to bring me back. Too many other places to try.

My 5 star reviews are rare and usually involve Wonders of the World, but this restaurant is one of a kind. It’s very busy, so you may have to wait, which is worth it. The staff are so very nice, and the service is great. The baked goods are a must get, I tried several, including the cinnamon roll, which are to die for. I also had breakfast which was fantastic. Don’t visit Portland without stopping here for at least one meal.

Our server was so friendly, and the beignets that came out first were delicious along with great coffee! I didn’t enjoy my meal as much, the eggs seemed unseasoned and the cheesy hash browns were disappointing.

I just love this place! Everything from the people that work there to the food. Everything is amazing. If your in the area, you must stop by and say hello to Cheryl!

This won’t be your usual review - so if you want to know how good the food and drink are - I can tell you that they are. But there is another amazing reason to know more about this business and that’s how they manage to have ridiculously high staff retention rates AND an ever evolving and eclectic menu that is difficult to pin down to any one type of cuisine. Cheryl (the first name of the business owner - along with her husband Ed) started out with a catering business. And here’s the sweet magic - they still have it and use it to try out all sorts of new dishes all the time (as those customers request particular dishes for their weddings or bat mitzvah or whatever). So they innovate and beta test new foods all the time - and when they get a hit that just won’t quit - on the menu it goes! This built in beta testing practice is what most businesses dream of having - it takes the risk out of innovation and allows a business to keep responsive to ever changing market and customer needs. The Casey’s are a great team and can teach all of us in business a thing or too! And by the way - many of their kitchen staff have between 20 and 30 years of tenure at Cheryl’s. When I asked Ed how he has such a great business he says its in the hiring. He is very particular and does it all himself. He knows exactly what he needs to hire for and only hires ‘exact fits’. I know in my own experience that when I take my time and really vet my candidates thoroughly and before I am in a full blown labour shortage I make great hires too! The both times we enjoyed our free starter beignet’s at Cheryl’s over the fast few days I would also say Ed is successful because he is on the floor, greeting customers and engaging with his staff constantly. It’s like a beautiful dance to watch him work. This is a business that really works and you’ll do well to give it a try. Enjoy the Portuguese breakfast rice or the Croque Monsieur. See - told you!

I was out for a morning walk and came across Cheryl’s and I’m so happy I stopped in. I was without my family so I saddled up to the bar. The chef presented me with a free taste of the Portuguese fried rice and chorizo and I loved it. Then, a random kind waitress stopped by to give me, free again, a try of their famous beignets. Oh my, that was delicious. I reluctantly ordered the huevos rancheros. I write reluctantly because I’m from Arizona and I’m a tough judge of any Mexican plate. This was yummy and would compete with any huevos on 16th Street in little Mexico in Phoenix.

Went twice as it was so nice! Our server was Cherie the first time and she was lovely and gave good site seeing tips. I didn't catch our second server's name but she was equally nice. Staff generally were really pleasant. Food was terrific, price was fine and would definitely recommend

Cheryl’s on 12th is fabulous in every way! Service was warm and friendly, ambiance is cool. I had best latte EVER, and the food was delicious!

Loved Cheryl's - it was the favorite thing we did in Portland. Food was great, service staff was awesome, and the atmosphere was cool.

We found Cheryl's on a handout from the Duniway Hilton. We ate there on the first day at about 2 pm. We were greeted with warm beignets. Our server (Sunsoriae?) had a smile and attitude that connected with us right away. She made suggestions and told us what was good (including the French toast which we didn't try that time. Instead, went with our own choices.) We all shared a short rib quesadilla for a starter, and it was amazing! The Tiramisu coffee drink was also a hit. Three of us had omelets, and one of us had the crab benedict, which is what brought us in originally. Everything was amazing, and the service was so awesome that we decided to come back the next day and try some of the things that the server suggested. The next day, we arrived in the morning for breakfast (which is the same menu all day.) We saw Sunsoriae again and told her we were back! We ordered another quesadilla, and I was going to order the French toast (half order) and fried rice that she had suggested, and then Poof! The manager comes to the table with a complimentary half order of the challah French toast for us to try. He said that the server had told him how much we had appreciated the food the day before. Wow, it was SO good. The fried rice was also tasty, and my son reports that the beef tenderloin benedict was even better than the crab benedict. Their menu is extensive, as is their drink menu - cocktails and soft drinks. The service is phenomenal, and the price is reasonable. We would definitely come back and recommend you try it.

While staying at the Mark Spencer downtown, we walked around the corner to Cheryl’s on 12th for breakfast. Best decision we made that day. The breakfast was excellent. Had a cheese omelet and Ed’s Scrambled, with chorizo sausage. Both were quite tasty and very filling. Our server, Jess, was super friendly, efficient, and professional. Will eat here again anytime in Portland! A

Oh my god I wish we lived in portland so we could come here all the time. Soooooooo tasty. Good hangover food too lol! I had waffles and my friends got some sort of omelet and we all loved it.

This is a popular spot but it does have a lot of seating. The service was pretty good and the complimentary warm doughnut to start was a nice touch. However, we didn't like the coffee and the dishes we tried were fairly bland, especially the Portuguese fried rice.

Yesterday I became a citizen of the United States. I was thrilled, and emotionally taken after I stood, raised my right hand and swore an Oath to the United States, and sang America the Beautiful. Went to Cheryl's and the experience was wonderful. Started with complementary beignets, still warm - mouth waters just writing about them. Had the Huevos Rancheros and my husband had the Portuguese Fried rice with an Organic egg ( house specialty ). The depth of flavors freshness and attention to service was outstanding. The Bloody Mary was our toast. The staff immediate caught onto to our great news, and embraced us with many congrats and wonted to hear our story, The owner of the resturant Cheryl also got involved into the conversations and brought us a complimentary Americano coffee and wished us a great start. Yes - The US is great and filled with Human Kindness and respect... We are blessed by the care you’ve given us. We can now call the United States HOME !!!!!

Holy cow! SOOOO good! Our daughter had the eggs Benedict with the cheesy hashbrowns (YUMMM!) and my husband and I shared the prime rib dip and the tuna bake. Both were really good, especially the au jus and the creamy horseradish! We also had the regular mule and their special marionberry mule. Seriously some of the best food we've had since we've been here for the long weekend in the NW! Would definitely recommend to anyone traveling to Portland 👍

Very friendly, busy place. But as busy as they were, the service was very efficient and organized. Had lunch twice and breakfast once. The servings were more than ample. In fact, I wish they served senior sized meals or half-meal options. The owner was super as were the staff. My wife tried their longenisa with rice. She's something of a connoisseur and compares it to her grandmother's. She was more than pleased with it and asked about the brand. The owner came over and explained he'd sought a good one for some time and found a local producer. After a discussion, he brought out two for her to take home. I had the two eggs with ham and roasted potatoes. Note: I joked to my wife, they must be using ostrich eggs the servings were huge. I personally found Cheryl's very relaxing. I recommend getting there early for breakfast as it's become very popular. Location wise, it was about five walking blocks from our hotel and sits on the southern edge of the Pearl District also within a few block of Powell's Bookstore. Highly recommend and the prices are average.

We were still full after last night's dinner at Pastini's on Taylor St. We chose this breakfast eatery based upon TA and Yelp reviews. We walked in the light rain, arrived at the appointed hour and waited until the doors opened. A large, waiting crowd quickly filled the large room Not yet ready for a full breakfast, we both chose the bowl of yogurt with mixed, fresh fruit. It was delicious and satisfying. I'd recommend this resto but you should make reservations. Finding a parking place might be difficult.

The staff is excellent, the food is good, but the plates are large. They have lots of different flavors of mimosas which is really cool. Definitely come hungry.

Stopped in for brunch on a Sunday and waited 10 minutes without a reservation. We ordered a few sandwiches and they were delicious, very fresh and creative.
My favorite breakfast place in Portland
I enjoy the atmosphere and staff. Cheryl’s is always busy. I highly recommend their Portuguese Fried Rice and their cinnamon rolls. I recommend you share the roll. Make reservations as sometimes it can be very busy
