Wonderful!!

By NormKeith |

Our friend suggested going to this restaurant and sometime her picks are not so good. Chi’s Chinese Cuisine was a very pleasant surprise. The restaurant was open and bright and very peaceful. The service was super friendly. They have a good selection of food including a wide selection on their Lunch Menu (entrée plus soup, salad and rice), a good number of Dim Sum & Appetizers as well as all the salad, soup, meat, seafood, vegetable, noodles, rice, Healthy Delight, teas and of course desserts. Our friend had Shrimp with Snow Peas, shrimp stir-fried with green pepper and onions in a fresh garlic sauce. My wife had Kung Pao Chicken, peanuts, red pepper, onion and chicken stir-fried in a spicy sauce. I had Shrimp in Lobster Sauce, shrimp, mushrooms, peas, carrots and water chestnuts, simmering in a thick, rich egg flower sauce. We all had the Hot and Sour Soup and it was the best I have ever had, nice and thick not watered down like other restaurants. No need to separate each dish because all the dishes were cooked perfectly with each one having their own unique combinations of flavor. Try their Jasmin Tea hot but so refreshing. This is a must try place as well as a must return place.

Excellent food and service

Had a beautiful meal with family and friends this evening. Our server Clyde although a little shy was excellent. We are here on holiday at the moment but will be back to this restaurant. Highly recommend.

Nice stop for lunch.

A lovely place for Chinese food. Very clean and welcoming. Have been twice for lunch. The lunch menu is quite extensive. Large portions with both soup and salad coming with the lunch specials. Have has shrimps with lobster sauce, and cashew chicken. Both were delicious. Looking forward to next time. Plenty of parking also makes for a nice visit.

Good food

My girlfriend and I were on our annual trip and LA was this year's location. We found Chi's online and decided to try it. I ordered the steamed chicken and vegetables. Chi's is in a strip mall, but the interior was nicely decorated and clean. It was a little loud, but the food was very good. My husband and I have been looking for a good Chinese restaurant since moving to Albuquerque 2 years ago, too bad Chi's is in LA! I would go back.

Chinese home cooking!

By David G |

Friends brought us here for dinner last Monday evening. Chi greeted us at our table and was very engaging. We ordered the cream cheese wontons - wow, they were awesome! We ordered five plates for four of us to share. Orange chicken was good, orange beef was better, sweet and pungent was best! The others were good also. Definitely a wonderful dining experience! Solid in every way!

Best Chinese Restaurant in Town

By Nancy Meets the World |

I have to agree with some of the comments here...the customer service is not the best. But so you know, the service team is very good, it's the front people who are not very friendly. Nevertheless, the food is good. It is one of the best Chinese Restaurants in the San Fernando Valley and the best Chicken Chow Fun I have ever had, outside of China.

Very delightful restaurant

I have lived by this restaurant for about 12 years now and saw the transformation from just a small place that only some local would know and go to, to a much bigger and more famous one. The food here had been always great and a lot of people would order it to go as well. After remodeling, it is so much better and such a delightful place to come for a family dinner.

Very Good Chinese Meal Family Style

The prices are reasonable, and you can share an order if you like. Get a whole pot of tea, and you get unlimited refills. What a deal! Staff was very attentive, and the place was clean. Beautiful tropical fish aquarium well kept when you enter. There were 7 of us, and we were seated very quickly. My mother had her walker, and had no trouble sitting at the end of the table with her walker "tucked" in. They bring the food on square plates that you can pass around the table. White or Brown rice ($1) more. We had a great time, and did not feel rushed at all. Very nice there. Casual.

Chi's has cheese!

The food was quite tasty and the service was good. The restaurant was open and comfortable with a PF Changs feeling without being in a giant chain. The garlic shrimp was good as was the sweet and pungent chicken. My favorite was the fried wontons but you only get 5 in the appetizer. Next time I'll try other stuff.

Yum!

The best Chinese food in the valley hands down. Everything and I mean everything we have there is off the charts exceptional. Great service, great prices, great food, it's a winning trifecta! The decor is also very upscale and the kids love hanging out at the aquarium. I think we'll go again tonight!

Ohhhh how delicious

Ohhhh how delicious 😋- we started with bbq noodle soup - so good, warm and delightful then a dim sum platter finish of with garlic chicken 🐓 so good. Staff was very nice. Great dinner

Excellent quality food

I love this restaurant for their extensive varieties of entrees. Their lunch specials are a bargain and the serving sizes make for some delicious leftovers.

Love the food

I have had the pleasure of living near this restaurant for years. The food is always great. My only disappointment was that the last time I picked up food to go, they forgot the fortune cookies. What's Chinese food without the cookies.

You won't be disappointed!

When in Northridge, you’ll just have to try Chi’s Chinese. The Dim Sum is excellent, and the Chinese dining experience is superb. Come early! The place was packed! Parking can definitely be a problem, though. However, the food was well worth the wait. You'll find a pleasant selection of excellent soups. We ordered the Wonton Soup and were not disappointed. The ‘Kung Pao Chicken’ complimented our Beef Chow Mein perfectly. The meat was moist and tasty, the spices nicely tingly, and the sauce was perfect. The food was not salty, the sauces were light and did not overpower. In keeping with the theme, the presentations are varied, unique and amazing. Food pricings are very reasonable. Compared to the other Oriental offerings in the area, we prefer Chi’s. This restaurant is definitely a keeper.

Amazing find

Absolutely Delicious Food

By Mar51 |

Several friends and I had the pleasure of having lunch at this restaurant today, and it was just wonderful. The food was cooked to perfection, very flavorful, but not too spicy. Very generous portions too. They have a very nice lunch menu with many options to choose from, and with excellent prices. The dinner menu was even more extensive. The service was friendly and efficient, and I was impressed with the way the manger walked around making sure everything ran smoothly. With all of the attention to detail, I assumed this was a new restaurant, I was surprised to learn that it has been in the Valley for twenty years, One last thing that I appreciated was the cleanliness of the restaurant. I even "peeked" into the kitchen and was happy to see everything so spotless. I do not live near this restaurant, but it will definitely be at the TOP of the list when I am in the area. Maybe someday they will open a second one out near me.

Finally, a great Chinese restaurant in Northridge CA

This was the first time we dined at Chi's, although we have dined in the same shopping center countless times at Alesio Italian restaurant and at the former Kabuki sushi house. Chi's just remodeled, and the new atmosphere is spacious and modern, kind of like a chic urban fusion rather than grandma's cliche Chinese kitchen. The staff was very friendly and attentive. It was refreshing to see an ethnically mixed wait staff, and not the usual Asian only stoic waiters. But of course, it all boils down to the food. And the food is amazing! The wanton soup was a rich broth, and overflowing with vegetables. One of the best soup's we have ever gotten in a Chinese restaurant. The walnut shrimp was top notch. Their sweet and pungent chicken is thin sliced and then flash fried, for a lite and crispy taste. Not greasy; not bready. The yang chow fried rice was right on the money, and lite on the salt/soy sauce -- as it should be. Many oriental restaurants go heavy with the sodium (salt), but Chi's maintained a lite touch. Savory, but not salty! We recommend this restaurant one hundred percent! It is nice to not have to drive all the way to Burbank (Gourmet 88) or Glendale (Panda Inn) for an excellent tasting and reasonably priced nice dinner. None of us could think of anything negative to say... other than too bad we live out of their driver delivery range.

If there only could be negative numbers...

By Maggie T |

Terrible, unprofessional rude people. Called to order for a delivery a lady who answered the phone said they don't deliver before I could say my address. Asked to talk to the owner she says owner is not there then hangs up the phone. After numerous hang ups I finally spoke with a DEL I VERY MAN and told him what happened and asked him to relate a message to the owner that I was going to write a review in yelp.2 minutes later the "missing" owner calls asking me not to do anything. She said that the lady that kept on hanging up on me will be "punished". Yah right. Anyways, will never go back there and already told all the people who I referred what happened. Chi you lost a whole lot of customers today and it won't stop today...

It's okey

We were in a rush and got lunch at this place. The serving looks big but lucks the main ingredient. The rice is small for children's portion

Fresh and Delicious

By HoomanG |

I've been enjoying Chi's for several years, since before their expansion, and they are a great source for consistently fresh and delicious Chinese food. By far the best Chinese in the north valley, and even gives those places in Sherman Oaks and Studio City competition.

Best hot & sour soup anywhere

By ThirdWindJim |

For over 30 years I have used hot and sour soup as my test of a Chinese restaurant. Chi’s has set the new standard for me. Perfect. Just the right balance of heat and flavor, wonderful ingredients in a savory broth. This pleasant but unpretentious place matched the great soup with our entrees. The service was good, and one could linger or get a quick meal.

Chi's Chinese: One of the San Fernando Valley's best-kept secrets!

By Lab-girl666 |

My husband and I find that Chi's is one of those local restaurants that is popular among people of all ages. It all depends on when you go. Of course, the earlier, the more bustling and noisy. We prefer to go around 8:00 pm, when some of the noise has died down. That said, who cares about a little noise, when you're going to be dining on dishes that never have left us disappointed. There's something special about the atmosphere there, from the moment you're seated, or even if you have to wait a few minutes for a table, there's the beautiful, relaxing, salt water aquarium with its colorful fish and other species (like sea anemones). But it's all just a prelude to Chi's wonderful food that'll make you remember "the Chinese restaurant in the nondescript strip mall", and want to return the next time you can think of an "excuse" to go back. One of ours is simply a hankering for excellent food that's affordable. With a menu the size of Chi's there's always something different to try, so there's no boredom, but meals we've had at other times will often find us ordering an "old favorite", in our case, the chicken chow fun, as well as something we hadn't had before!

Very disappointed!

By Sid k |

We live in the area and have come here many times over the years. They always had great food and service whenever we came. Late last year they shut down in order to expand and the restaurant. Needless to say we were happy when they reopened but were really let down by the food, service and prices! I don't know if they just had a "bad" night but the food just was not the same and service was mediocre. They even charged extra if you wanted brown rice!

Pleasant experience. but something has changed

By Sonova_Beach |

Chi's has always been our "Go To" place for great Chinese cuisine. However, and I'm hoping it's just because of the Holidays, but something has changed. The Hot and Sour Soup, although still flavorful, has something missing. I can't put my finger on it, but the taste was definitely lacking. Used to be that this soup distinguished itself from all of the other similar fare in San Fernando Valley, but our last encounter left us wondering. The soup tasted very commonplace. Similarly, the two dishes we had, the sauce seemed to have the same taste, with little to distinguish itself. And that's one of our complaints about another Chinese restaurant that recently went out of business: all the dishes seemed to taste the same.

REGULAR FAMILY GATHERING

By AAirman |

About four times a year my wife and I fly to the LA area to get together with family. This is where we have at least one meal (sometimes more) on each visit. The service is always friendly, and my 90 plus year old aunt can always find something not too exotic, while the rest of us indulge in the remarkable quality of the food. Prices are very reasonable-- especially for those of us not used to LA pricing for everything else. I recommend this without reservation!

First time, very good food

By Robert L |

My first visit to Chi’s and I will be back. I ordered the steamed chicken with veggies. It came with a large helping white rice. My lunch was hot and everything very fresh. Good serving too.

Excellent meal

Visited with a friend and had a really great experience. Loved the food and the whole atmosphere of the place. Excellent service. Would definitely recommend!

Strip Mall Delight

By Sjt64 |

Trip advisor lured me here and didn’t disappoint. Warm, friendly service was only surpassed by well prepared, reasonably priced delicious good. Hot and sour soup wasn’t too hot and had nice depth. The pepper beef with onions and mushrooms tasted great but definitely lacked enough beef (the only negative to the entire meal). The shrimp with walnuts were generous as well as hearty. The most delicious entree was the filet of sole with scallions. It melts in your mouth like amazing sushi would. I’m not in the area often but if I return, I’d definitely eat here again.
