Good food. The fish is French. They make really good dishes. We like to go there sometimes. The parking lot is small and the restaurant too. It gets full fast and it is noisy.

I have been to almost all of the Sushi restaurants in the San Fernando Valley. While some of them are good or very good, I think Chiba is by far the best. You can order anything and it will be fresh and delicious. I particularly enjoy the Toro (Fatty Bluefin Tuna Belly) and the Hamachi (Young Yellowtail). There are two actual sushi bars and numerous tables. The service is excellent. It gets crowed, especially on the weekends.

Chiba offers a variety of dishes at reasonable prices. We were amazed with the fresh sushi and rolls. The fish melted in our mouths! Few Japanese restaurants offer sunomono before the meal and fresh fruit at the end. It tends to get crowded so either get there early or make reservations.

We decided to go here based on the good trip advisor reviews and when we arrived we were a little hesitant based on its outside. However, from the moment we stepped through the door our impression was nothing but extremely positive. The service was super friendly, the atmosphere lovely and lively, and the food just brilliant. As a big fan of Japan, I am a big fan of this restuarant and would recommend without hesitation. It brightened up our day of sitting in LA traffic :) the bento was great value (tempura was lovely), sushi/sashimi was fresh and the mango mochi was lovely.

lovin' it!!

We sat at the sushi bar and were immediately grated by the wait staff and the Sushi Chef. My friend ordered the chefs choice, so I followed his lead! The sashimi was fresh, presentation beautiful and the flavors accompanied it was mouth watering! On the Salmon, black caviar eggs with truffle oil!

We enjoyed all aspects of our dinner at Chiba. The food was fresh and delicious. We especially enjoyed the family feel of the whole restaurant. We like to eat at a place where a family owns and runs it. We had the 86 year old wife who, with her husband, was the original owner check in on us several times. She was clearing tables and chatting with customers. We liked that a lot. But for us, it is always about good food. We were not disappointed. If you are looking for a super trendy decor and fancy styling as your primary focus, maybe try a different place. We loved it for the clean simplicity of excellent food and personal service. The house sake was lovely too.

The best Japanese restaurant in los Angeles. Maybe in the world. Shigi, the owner, is such a great chef and the price is really affordable. I'm really enjoyed and i recommend to everyone

Order the Sunny Special.....it's named after me :)

Best sushi =)

Me and my girlfriend have been the Chiba several times and we absolutely love this spot! We always sit at the sushi bar with Shig, the owner. He always prepared thee best hand rolls and sushi. Highly recommend to any sushi fanatics

If you enjoy sushi and Japanese fare, this is your place. A nice size sushi bar greets you upon entering. The menu is varied as is the sushi and roll menu. You can get either hand or sliced rolls. The service is outstanding. Limited beer selections but both hot and cold saki is available. This is most certainly a "must" if you are in the North Hollywood area.

Great new location, ample parking, same friendly valet guy, same wonderful food. Would eat there every day if I could. Don't miss it!

Really one of the best sushi bars in town the fish is so fresh so many varieties the sushi chef was amazing and so talented sitting on the bar is highly recommended for this type of food truly a fantastic place in NoHo

You will be hard pressed to find a better sushi bar anywhere in the valley! This is a first rate high quality establishment and its Japanese owned. The finest selection of fish always in stock. Just about any exotic fish or shellfish you can think of. If you want to have a truly great sushi experience this is THE place!

Usually I only write about places I find during traveling but if I was traveling I would want someone to tell me about Chiba. First of all be patient and sit at sushi bar, new restaurant has 2 bars, one is where owner Shig will treat you to a fabulous experience. If not at his bar, he holds high standards for his staff and everyone will make you feel welcome.

Way to go for some good sushi...service was mediocre and the environment was a bit too intimate for dining in. parking is horrendous, but they've got some great food.

This sushi restaurant is my all time favorit from all the countries i travel to. The fish is fresh and well prepared by a real Japanese chef (which can be rarer that you think). I prepare to eat a the station where the sushi owner works (straight in front of you when you enter the restaurant). Ask him to surprise you with sushis if the place is not too packed such as spanish mackerel, amberjack, scallop, sea urchin (amazing - just melt in your mouth), tamago (japanese omelet), salmon toro with black cavier, ... I tried the spicy tuna served on crispy rice patty and the oyster shot. Really good! The food is just amazing, original but still authentic. I highly recommand!

This was clearly the best Japanese food I have ever had. Fresh, incredibly tasty. Superior service, second to NONE. Even the Saki was the best I have ever had (cold). I would definitely go again.

hands down the BEST FRESHEST AMAZING sushi... will not be dissapointed.. everything is greattt... Albacore is a MUST have!!!

scary little strip mall and no parking but let the valet handle it . this is the real deal folks- sit infront of Shig!

During one of my first nights visiting the LA area, my daughter and I were trying to figure out where to go for dinner. I love Asian food and sushi, and since we were staying in the hotel next door, we decided to give Chiba a try. It was busy, which was stated on other reviews I read, but we got a table within a couple minutes. The service and staff were friendly and prompt and answered questions in regards to sushi rolls we were unfamiliar with. The food was fantastic! We ordered miso soup, agedashi tofu, crunchy shrimp roll, a tempura roll and the bagel roll. I would definitely return if in the area again. They do have a full menu besides sushi, for anyone with children or someone who doesn't eat much sushi.

Not the best part of town beleive me but once you try their sushi and it melts in your mouth you will not care were you are.

Our friends have been going here for 20 years and thought they were exaggerating about Chiba so we decided to check it out. I've had sushi in a few places, but Chiba is by far truly the best! They were right...Shigy will make whatever you're craving. Their spicy tuna okoge (crispy rice) is my favorite! Their service is great as well! My other half enjoyed his oyster-shooter and sake shots! Definitely our favorite spot!

I have to say I love this place. Every single time the sushi is amazing. Sushi Hand rolls.... is all good!!! Highly recommend And this is my favorite spot for sushi. Ask for Shig

It's my favorite restaurant ever since I started going in 2001. I crave it, I go regularly, and meet others that do the same. It can be crowded, so being prepared to wait is a must. It's in a weird strip mall that doesn't offer much as far as parking or elegance - but so worth it once you get inside and bite into the wonderfully prepared sushi and sashimi. So yummy.

Ate the usual stuff - Shashimi, Nagiri etc which were all delicious and fresh, then had spicy tuna hand roll, delicious. Had Spicy Tuna on Cruncy rice, really terrific. MamaSan, the chefs mother was our server, she was amazing and cute

I have been eating sushi since 1965. I started in NYC when my dad came back from working in Japan. There was one sushi bar in Manhattan and my Dad and I would go and sit and eat. Since then I have eaten sushi all over the world and I can say without a doubt that Chiba is one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Shig, the owner is amazing and an incredible chef. The fish is the best cuts and generous portions. I have never ha d a bad meal there and the staff and chefs are all great!

The service was attentive and friendly. The prices are reasonable. The food is very good. It was crowded so get there early. They are relocating a block away so hopefully it won't be so cramped.

Great sushi and prices. What else can you ask for? I recomend the salads very amazing! Tv on the wall if your sitting at the sushi bar just makes it perfect.

The food is very good and creative, my favorite is the spicy tuna hand roll, it's a cone! :D we usually eat lunch at Chiba's, but it's always very crowded and there is one big problem, parking! They have a valet service but the poor valet guy is running all the time. We usually try to find a space on the street to have less problems. Chiba the chef(owner) is very nice.

location not the best however food experience is very good that you would forget about locaiton totally. Amberjack sushi is a must.

The Sushi.place I compare all other Sushi places to. So far, none I havent foumd any that compare! My family and I have been eating Sushi here for over 20 years!

This place has fantastic sushi and tempura! If your not a fish eater, this might not be the place for you. The menu is vast, but definitely not what we were use to as far as the cuts of chicken, pork, and beef. If you want sushi, go here! If you want meat, go somewhere else.

Been finding it hard to find good sushi in the area but now I have. I am bookmarking this place for the next time I am in town.

I haven't been here since the 1970's or 80's. It is still there with a brand new building and is has grown immensely. I went with old friends from high school. We had a wonderful time. We came on a Monday for lunch. Plenty of parking with their new location. Everything was fresh, and delicious! A must stop even 400 hundred miles from my home - lol! I will be back and it won't take me that long again. Lol!

Was a regular at the original Chiba years ago and this was my first time here. Wow. What I've been missing. This place can make a sushi cynic a believer. Too many cut rolls for the six in our party to describe...all delicious. My albacore sashimi was outstanding...so tender. My wife's choice of black cod marinated in miso sauce was another winner. We always hear about those wonderful sushi joints along Ventura blvd. Well, Chiba definitely can give them strong competition. And, unlike those other places, Chiba has its own parking lot!

We are tourist and found this restaurant on Trip Advisor. . It was amazing. ..we ate a lot of sushi and the special rolls were delicious. Service was efficient and everyone worked together. We liked the fact that our food came out when it was made and not all at one time on a big "boat". I highly recommend this place.

I have to say that I miss the intimacy of the original, but it's nice to have parking and not have to wait to get in! Owner, Shig, is always funny - - and the staff is great. We love Moto, Tomo, Kenshi, and Mama-san is the bomb! We love taking friends there, and they are always impressed with the fresh fish, generous cuts, yummy options. Rufus roll is always a show-stopper - - but hard to pick favorites, as it is all so good!

What can I say ? I'm from NYC and I have eaten at truly world class Sushi restaurants such as Nobu 57, Nobu Milan, Sushi Zen NYC, Blue Ribbon NYC, etc. But this strip mall Sushi Paradise is absolutely the best I've ever had... From melt in your mouth Toro to a simple Dragon Roll this place is simply the best.... The why and how they do it I can't tell you, but if your in the LA / Burbank area this is a must go...

We had dinner at the new Chiba's location on Lankershim Boulevard; same operator as the Saticoy site (we couldn't tell if it was still open there). We had dinner there on a Saturday night. It was really busy, and most people seemed to be ordering sushi. I believe I counted ten sushi chefs at work behind the two counters! We aren't sushi fans, so we ordered from the entree menu. Everything was very fresh and very tasty. Meals came with soup and salad. All of the servers seem to take responsibility for every table, which means the service is excellent. A little pricey, as Japanese restaurants always are, but worth it. Noisy--they have a lot of tables in a relatively small space, and they were all full that evening.

The absolute best sushi there is. Sushi is not my go-to meal, but friends introduced me to Chiba, and I never visit L.A. without a stop to see Shig and the team at Chiba. The food and the service are beyond excellent.

This is the BEST Japanese restaurant ever! Fish and sushi is so fresh and delicious. Staff is very accommodating and gracious. A true cultural and culinary experience!!

Chiba is run by a second generation owner whose father sent him to Japan to learn the craft. This place once catered to the Japanese community in the Valley. Now, it's a totally Latino neighborhood but Chiba lovers still come in droves. You'll probably not see a more diverse group of sushi lovers. Chiba expanded about a decade ago and lost a little of its intimacy but it has not lost any of its fabulous quality. Once you come here you may make it your sushi bar forever.

This is possibly the best Japanese restaurant in the San Fernando Valley, and that's saying a lot. The sushi is outstanding, the neighborhood is sketch - to say the least, but that's probably why this incredible restaurant is able to serve incredible food for reasonable prices.

Some of the best sushi in the SFV. The location is away from the usual foodie areas, which I think is a major plus. The menu is huge, with overwhelming choices of all types of Japanese munchies. The parking lot is spacious and the restaurant is roomy with many seating options. And the service is cordial and professional, making the whole experience quite exceptional. Even though the prices are higher than most sushi spots, it's well worth the cost.

This is a classic Valley Sushi spot, now in an updated space but with all the same familiar specials. People in the know go here. It's not on the Blvd but well worth a drive if need be.

best sushi in north hollywood! average pricing, decent service.

We were seated quickly and served in a timely manner. The food was very good but you have to ask for a fork if you don't like using chopsticks. All of our group liked what they got. Those who ate sushi said it was very good. (I wouldn't know) Very nicely laid out and decorated.

I've been to many sushi places and this is still the best so I always keep coming back and passing on others! Albacore melts in your mouth! Spicy tuna is the best I've had anywhere! Cucumber rolls Yummm!!!

The food here is always fresh and delicious People come here to eat from far away would recommend to try this sushi restaurant out one of the best in the valley

This is a nice Restraunt but maybe this this why there is no pictures of the food on the menu and we like pictures! We got the rainbow roll which was very good and two other rolls which were ok. It was busy and stuffy in the Restraunt but the service was good. I ordered a beer and the glass they gave me for the beer smelled bad, so I drank it out of the bottle. We might try it again because of all the positive reviews it's gotten maybe we went on a bad night and ordered the wrong things (except the rainbow roll that was very fresh). Hopefully order something that we will really enjoy more and it won't be as stuffy and warm and my glass won't stink.

very good and fresh and yummy sushi. A restaurant i wouldn't say no to. Regardless of the location, once you're in, the experience is very sufficient.

Whenever we drive up towards Burbank, we always have to stop by Chiba. Wasting that extra gallons of gas is well, well worth it for some great Japanese Sushi. Their Dynamite is a must have for those who like scallops, unlike my weird friend that was with me. Mostly every Sushi is fresh and well executed, but their Spicy Tuna Salad is a must try. Place is usually packed, and parking is non existent, haaa life is full of challenges, nothing is perfect.

I live locally in the SF valley and this place has been around since the 70’s. Truly is an amazing family owned business worth the stop. Everyone has “ their “ favorite sushi spot, this has has been mine for many years. No matter if I move away from the area, when around I make the time to stop by here . They have a new location, be sure to go to their new address! My favorite Sushi chef is Tomo! Happy exploring foodies !

We found this little gem by chance and it was so busy on a Sunday night that we came back the next day. The tempura, sushi and sashimi were all fresh and delicious. Service was excellent. Portions were ample and price was reasonable. We will definitely come back when next in Burbank.

We went as part of a dealer evening - so 6 people in total . We have been to the old location and the premises improves the location and furnishing .the food is still good in fact top notch .all 6 people had great meals and the service was good .will go back

My favorite japanese restaurant - the quality of fish is IMO, always above average, and decently priced. And it's the only place of I know that serves butter-yaki!

Despite the downscale looking stripmall in which it's located, Chiba is incredible. The fish is fresh, served in large portions, and is delicious. If you're in the East Valley and you've got a hankering for sushi, you really should make your way over here. When you go, be sure to sit at the bar (there are two) at which owner Shig is presiding. He's nice, fast, and good.

Had dinner here on a recent Sunday. At 5:02 pm there were already people at the door waiting for them to open. At 6:30 when we left, the line was practically out the door. The service was great throughout - friendly, helpful and patient. Our water was regularly refilled and plates cleaned quickly. I ordered the Jyo chirashi sushi and it was fantastic. Lots of fish and other goodies like salmon roe, sea urchin and sweet egg. Unlike some places that put a seaweed and sesame seed topping as a garnish, they put it between the bottom rice layer and fish layer so it was spread evenly. The menu is extensive and includes many traditional dishes. The food presentation isn't impressive but the taste is solid. Big parking lot but gets filled.

Chiba has opened another location on Lankershim Blvd., a few blocks south of the original location. Unlike the Saticoy restaurant, this one has plenty of parking. The inside is fresh and sparkling clean. There are plenty of seats at the two sushi bars and even more in the dining room. The food is still top notch and the service is very good. I think it will be my new favorite sushi joint.

Restaurant 101 if you don't have to wait it wont be great! C'mon guys, there's over 9000 places to eat in LA so if your not willing to wait a few minutes at the 5star excellent restaurants then go somewhere else. When Mom greets you and makes sure her son is making great Sushi, sit & wait a few minutes if you have to because it's worth it. Fresh, delicious, and surprisingly prompt once seated, this place should be high on your go to list - oh yeah, there not overpriced !! BONUS

Awesome, fresh fish.

While located in an old, small shopping center in North Hollywood, don't let the location fool you. This is outstanding Sushi. They have so many inventive dishes, rolls and fish you don't find in your typical Japanese restaurant. Don't miss the spicy tuna on fried rice cakes or the Japanese mackeral sashimi three ways. The Albacore sushi or sashimi is to die for. All the fish is the freshest. People come from all over LA and Orange County to come here. Come early and make a reservation if you can. The lines get long. I totally recommend sitting at one of the two Sushi Bars in the restaurant. The owner is always in the one on the right side.

I was fortunate enough to be taken to lunch this week and we went to Chiba. I personally would never have chosen this place, because the neighborhood is one I usually avoid. Tucked in a strip mall with horrid parking, walking into Chiba is like going through a stargate into a new world. You're greeted at the door with a genuine smile and seated in a crowded, fairly noisy room full of people who are all there for one thing: the FOOD. Fresh, delicately prepared with great skill and care, Chiba's sushi offerings are amongst the best fish I've ever had. They always bring a special appetiser bite to whet your appetite- a tiny tease of the bounty to come. I must recommend the scallop roll, ours was cut and prepared with spicy mayo. I wanted another. But then the fatty tuna sushi came, and then the sweet shrimp (with the heads lightly tempura-fried later, as is custom), and then the spicy tuna hand roll. I would have just kept eating if I wasn't full. The place is loud and busy, everything was delicious, and there's an energy in Chiba that made me forgive the location. I can't wait to go back and try the house special rolls.
Best Best Best
This is our favorite sushi spot - I won't rate it down for the location, because it is part of its charm to go into a strip mall in a sketch neighborhood to get the best sushi in los angeles. I have been coming here for over 10 years. I used to drive from Alhambra, and we have met guests who have driven from further who go there regularly. I almost don't want to rate it, as it is already so popular!
