Michelin? NO WAY

By Robert L |

Had dinner here after we saw that it was in the Michelin guide. We had mo-mo, lamb curry, and spicy nan. We frequently eat at Indian restaurants both at home and during travel. This place is below average. Even compared to your regular Amercanized Indian restaurant, the food here is nothing special. Very disappointing.

Wonderful Food

By Peggy Q |

My hubby and I frequent Indian food places but both agree this food is AMAZING!!!! We shared a bowl of spicy lentil soup and chicken momo as an appetizer. Then I had the Butter Chicken and hubby opted for the Chicken Chilly Masala. The Butter Chicken was one of the best I have ever had and Hubby's although super spicy was also very flavorful. We'll definitely be back.

Rude service

By LLindaC |

We booked this at 6 pm for three people on OpenTable. The party was me , my 23 yr old daughter and her roomate. When we were seated, they did not say hello, welcome, nada...they said " you must be out of here at 8 pm" we said, no problem. It took several minutes to fill our water and take drink orders. When they finally came by to take our dinner orders, he began by saying " you must leave before 8 pm" . No smiles, no help, not polite. We ordered several entrees for the three of us, no appetizers to slow an order. Clearly, they were preparing for a large private function. It took over 20 minutes for Malai Kafka,Veg Korma and Saag Paneer to arrive. These should not take that long. The food was good, but the servers were tense, rude and didn't refill our drinks after food arrived. I gave a 20 % tip, which was not deserved. We left at 7:50 and nobody ever said thank you or goodbye.

Good food and surprisingly good service

By Raj P |

I have eaten at many Indian resturants over the years. There are very few that provide service with a smile. Upon entry, we were promptly greeted, seated and re-seated (at our request, air conditioning was too cold). Our drinks were served promptly, the waiter patiently waited and had good suggestions. We ultimately had a paneer bhurji, it has to be the best i have had. In addition, the lamb sheekh kabab was superb. The waiter was very careful to clarify that he had the correct order. The garlic naan was nice a soft and obviously fresh. I would not hesitate to recommend this place.

Solid option for lunch or dinner

By edge46 |

Wanted to try this place earlier, but never had a chance. My friend and I went there for late lunch. The place was not busy (although they had a fair number of take-outs). We ordered one goat dish (Nepali) and one vegetarian dish. Both were well prepared (although I cannot speak for authenticity). The bread was fresh and tasty, and so was the rice. The deserts were equally good. Service was a little spotty, but not bad at all. Overall, I thought it is a good option for lunch or dinner and will plan on coming back.

Jewel in the Crown

By Michael H |

Came across this restaurant by chance having set out to go to another one a little further afield. However, we were cold and hungry and this place looked inviting. We were not disappointed. Food was interesting and wholesome although felt service was a little rushed!! We were given complimentary Poppadoms (unusual where we come from in the UK) and my chai tea was changed when I inadvertently ordered it with milk (yuck!!). Reasonably priced and warm atmosphere.

Great lunch buffet

By Schmooglet |

I am not that familiar with Indian cuisine so to attend the lunch buffet was a great choice. I went with 2 friends that love this cuisine. They said it was very good, authentic and excellent flavors. My favorite was the green beans and the potato salad. I would definitely recommend.

Top-notch Indian food in Chicago

By Maria C |

As a vegetarian, Indian restaurants typically offer me many choices, but I would characterize this restaurant's options as abundant. Friendly service.

The best Aloo Mutter I've ever had

By Kerr767 |

I was in Chicago for a quick two day conference and have a bit of an on-going love affair with Indian cuisine. I placed my order online and walked to the restaurant from my hotel nearby. So while I did not dine here and cannot comment on the table service, etc., I can say that this was, without question, the best Indian dinner I have ever had. I am a fan of the vegetarian entrees, so I ordered the Aloo Mutter and the Alu Chat. Both were exceptional. The sauces were spicy and flavorful. And the food was ready for pickup well within the estimated time window. The next time I am in Chicago, I will absolutely be returning here.

Great place to check out in Chicago

By VinciP |

We went to Chicago Curry House during our stay and the Cocierge reccomended it. It was a great meal, the food is freshly made and delicious, tasty and the portions are quite big. The staff is very attentive and friendly.

Great experience

By Basanta T |

Tasty and delicious food!! Great place and people! Worth visiting!! Chicken chilly was awesome!! And potato pickle too!! Enjoyed it!

Look elsewhere!

By mariethecat |

I love Indian food and eat done at indian restaurants frequently. This one was a non-repeater for sure. Good- mango lasso and the garlic naan. That was it. Granted I was alone and only ordered one dish. Bad - navratan korma was the worst I have had. No flavor; simply over boiled vegetables with a tasteless curry sauce. Very disappointing. I waited for the waiter to return to enquire as to how everything was. I ate the entire basket of garlic naan before he returned. Instead of observing I only had one bite of the korma and asking what was the trouble he asked the routine "how is everything" question. I explained and he apologized and offered to bring me something else. By that time I was not interested in ordering anything else and asked for my check. They didn't charge me for the korma. I'll try another place next time unless Robert Irvine (restaurant impossible) pays a visit.

Best restaurant Chicago

By Ram G |

A menu at Chicago curry house has somethings for everyone. Visit them you will very happy and your visit will be a enjoyable. Food here is a best. Staff are very helpful..

Good Indian option

By hec286 |

We had one Indian Thali type meal, and one meal off the menu, both tasty, well spiced and to our taste. Staff friendly but not over attentive, had to request refil of water on more than one occasion. Plenty of vegetarian options

Worst Indian meal I've ever eaten

By Ad1e69 |

We were so looking forward to this meal as Americans don't understand vegetarianism at all - so we were struggling with the options available to us & we thought a Indian meal would make a pleasant flavoursome change as we visit India every year for the last 10 years and eat Indian food every week back in England where a curry is the most popular meal out. We were so wrong this was bland it all tasted out of a packet not freshly prepared at all, the poppadoms where awful tasting & out of a packet. Onion bhajis again tasted out of a packet not freshly made. The vegetables used in the curry where again out of a packet or tin disgusting when you are charged so much, the saag Aloo looked ok but again tasted wrong. There was not one dish we enjoyed so disappointed with our meal.

Amazing Food!

By Donyea M |

Tonight was solo date night and I decided to dine-in at Chicago Curry House. I regularly order take-out and decided to opt for a different take on this restaurant and WOW! What an amazing restaurant. For a small business the service was incredible. Overall, It was a great experience. The atmosphere is very warm, welcoming, and enchanting. They have an amazing selection of wines, food (gluten-friendly), and service. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and make great recommendations. I had a virgin piña colada and glass of Malbec as my beverages of choice. For my entree I chose lamb korma and for dessert as recommended, I had gajar ka halwa and kheer, accompanied by masala tea. Everything was amazing!

Perfect prices and food

By hawthornwoods |

Great selection of vegetarian and regular dishes. Great service. Visited during lunch hours. It was great experience. Recommend.

Uninspired and kinda tired...fresh naan, though

By theSwurleys |

Sought out the Curry House after seeing a review on WTTW and checking reviews for Chicago Indian food buffets. Curious about Nepalese options. Came to find generic options made with generic ingredients (canned veggies in some curries) & cooked in a generic fashion. All looked a little tired and uninspired...and insufficient to quell my need for heat and flavorful masala. The naan was, however, cooked to order- very fresh and light but with an excellent bite and piping hot. There are better options in the loop for buffet foods from India (House at 58 W Grand;)) and > there really is no reason to not make the trip north to Devon. The journey will be worth it, guaranteed.

Start small and work your way up

By Jack-Dru |

We're used to eating Indian food at home in Toronto and ordered in the usual manner. Big mistake, we got enough food for 8 - 10 people. That's the way it works in the USA. That said, the food at this place is very good.

Good and not so good

By bkengland |

The food was good, but the service was on the slow side, and staff wasn't all that friendly; not unfriendly, just not engaging.

Nice taste, but...

By Rajendra-Prasad Yadav |

We (a family of four, with one teenager and three adults) decided to eat only Nepali food. We asked the waiter about the recommended dishes. He did not seem to understand. We asked him in 2-3 times different ways. He could not answer. His vocabulary seemed to be very limited although he seemed to be a local guy, and not a Nepali. We ordered palungo ko saag, aaloo ra seemi ko tarkari, piyzi kulcha and naan. They provided rice as part of the order. The saag was average in taste. The aaloo was very good. The piyzi kulcha was great. For dessert, we had requested four servings of gulab jamuns. Their taste was very nice. The total bill was USD 59.20. With tip, we paid USD 65.

Average

By Cool Rider |

I guess it’s one of the best options downtown. Not many Indian restaurants around town. It’s been severely adjusted to local taste buds. I found most of the dishes to be very average. If you are craving curry then not much options. It’s at a odd corner so keep close watch to the little signage.

Wonderful Indian Food!

By Mellisa H |

We walked several blocks in sleet to get to this restaurant and it was worth it. The food was wonderful and the staff was incredibly friendly -- they even brought us an appetizer on the house. The tikka masala was really good, the nan was fantastic, and the vindaloo was fantastically spicy.

Nice buffet for lunch

By IlonaS1 |

I was on a day trip in Chicago and was looking for something to eat for lunch. I saw a sign, that promotes the lunch buffet at Chicago Curry House. So I went there. The waiter was really friendly and served very quick the drinks, but not the naan bread I orderd. On the buffet there was a small part with salads ( green salad, cucumbers, tomatoes, carots). Then there was a part where the main dishes were served. It was a good variety. Chicken dish, lamb dish, vegetarian dishes, and rice. There also was a small area where the desserts were (I can remeber that it was Kheer and Gajar Ka Halwa) I like indian food.Compared to the Indian restaurants in my region in Germany, the food was very delicious and flavoured.

Maybe I Ordered the Wrong Entree'?

By edyrp |

I have never been to a Nepalese/Indian restaurant before, although I've been to many strictly Indian places. I was delighted with their version of the classic Nepalese dish called momo, a form of filled dumpling. We ordered both kinds that were available, vegetable and chicken. Both were spicy, but the vegetable was more so. Absolutely delicious. I should have stopped there. I always order the same food at Indian restaurants. The naan was perfect. The chicken makhani was not. It was all dark meat, which I am not accustomed to. There were small bone fragments and tendons that I had to gracefully pull out of my mouth. The sauce was flavorless, even though I had asked for "medium" spice level. My dining companion had a basic tandoori chicken which was fine. I had heard wonderful things about this restaurant. From my own experience they were half right.

GREAT!!!!

By Cherry G |

The food was amazingly delicious, the great where supa good, the staff is great this is my 4th time here and I'm never disappointed!!!

Watered down curries for carry out and delivery

By lmisra |

I used to order them thru fooda. First couple times they were ok. Then they started mixing water with curries, so they have no taste. Slowly they reduced the portion increasing their price. I stopped ordering and similar situation with my colleague here too. They have no quality control. I will never order from them again.

Good Food....

By Aditya S |

Recently came to chicago and searching for few indian restaurants come across Chicago Curry House... Decided to go for a lunch buffet. And it was very good food along with excellent service....quiet place....to enjoy far from the crowded restaurants of downtown. Lunch buffet was at very good price with good quality. Must visit if u are an indian food lover.

Sambar Soup!!!

By Double R |

The curry is amazing and garlic Naan Bread was delicious! Sambar Soup I have never had before so thank you for the tasty experience.

Great, Just Spicy Enough

By SavvyTraveler11 |

We ordered a lamb korma and chicken tikka masala, or vice versa, and garlic naan; delivery at McCormick. It arrived fast. Both dishes were tender and tasty and just spicy enough. We ate til it hurt; wonderful delicious food. I would recommend it to friends and family.

Great curries delivered hot and tasty

By bobkap |

We ordered in from Chicago Curry House and had a nice meal. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Vindaloo, Basmati Rice and Naan. We also got papadam, mango chutney and mint chutney. The curries were both very good. The Vindaloo was quite space (it says "Hot" on the menu) but still tasty and good. We got two Naan (but probably only needed one for two of us) and one rice (but it came in two big pans). The food is very good and it was delivered quickly (about 40 minutes from when we ordered) and hot. The prices are a bit high but not ridiculous. We will try again.

Outstanidng Neighborhood Indian/Nepal

By Jdk326 |

Eat in or take out great Indian food. Food is always flavorful, and great portions for the price. Have tried numerous items and each has been delicious. Girlfriend cannot eat "spicy" food and they prepared the dishes with out heat. Quick attentive service and a great value (leftovers for a couple days).

Pretty good overall, but really middle of the road

By David B |

The ambiance is pleasant and cozy, the service pleasant, and - loving Indian food as much as I do - I'd come back, but not in any great hurry: the food is OK, but not spectacular in any way. Strictly standard choices and standard quality.

Yummy

By katravler |

I love this place as the food is healthier and not covered in oil. The whole-wheat NAan could use some upgrading. I’ve had better elsewhere but it’s passable. I will definitely return. We had chicken spinach dish w 10 spice. Yummy!!!

YUMMY CURRY

By Tabitha E |

We were visiting Chicago, from Spain, for a few days and decided to come here for our thanksgiving dinner! The food was delicious, and the owner was very accommodating and helpful to us. Some of us hadn’t had Indian/Nepalese food before but this was an amazing first experience :)) definitely visit.

awesome food

By Gina C |

Found this restaurant on google, booked a table for 8 of us as we were all travelling in from Toronto - dinner was so good, everyone had plenty, very tasty and good value

5 colleagues + 5 Iphones in town searching for an Indian restaurant= Chicago Curry House!

By tpa2az |

In town for a trade show staying at a hotel on Adams St. We all decided that we wanted Indian food and Chicago Curry came up on our phone GPS systems. Blindly going there without any recommendations, we hoped for the best! And, it was great. Wonderful service and they suggested some great items as well. Nice little jewel of a restaurant. Everything was prepared as desired - especially on the spicy scale. I prefer very spicy and my dish was prepared exactly how I wanted it. Nice dining room and I will definitely keep on my list for my next visit to Chicago.

Chicken MoMo

By RJoF |

I love the chicken MoMo's. I've gone to this restaurant since 2009, last visited in July 2016. I've enjoyed various dishes on the menu. However, I ALWAYS get a Chicken MoMo appetizer. It's Chinese-style (in appearance) dumplings with Indian-style seasoning. THIS is the beauty of Nepalese cuisine. All the food is home made, so there can be variety in the the seasoning and heat levels, but I credit this to a home made product rather than any deficiency. Every time I am in the area, I always eat at least one meal here.

Great Indian-Nepalese cuisine!

By M S |

My friend and I decided to give this restaurant a try while we are on a business trip. The food was delicious and the service was great! There were plenty of vegan selections. Be forewarn, their dishes are pretty spicy. Drink lots of water and bring some tums. It's worth it though!

Bad Takeaway Experience

By Chris E |

Waited an hour for tasteless watery Chicken Tikka Masala & Vegetable Korma. The worst takeout I've had in Chicago and all for the pleasure of $50 Definitely go elsewhere!

great flavored food, great ambiance

By Michael B |

This was the 3rd time here for the buffet lunch. The food is very tasty and the selection is very good. Apart from the food, the décor is low key (not gaudy) so it feels very comfortable. I used to hate lentils but there they are great. There's a bit if a bit to most things but not overwhelming. One thing about Indian food in general, they make vegetables taste great so you don't have to be a vegetarian to love it (which I am not). The service was very good (though it was not packed out). Really a bit of a find.

Authentic Indian and Nepali Food

By pinnacle-project |

I have friends from both India and Nepal. I have enjoyed many meals from their kitchens. On the last day of a conference, I suggested to a co-worker that we leave the restaurants in the Hilton and try something nearby. He had never had Indian or Nepali food but was willing to try. They have a lunch buffet every day so this seemed like the obvious choice so he could try a bit off everything. We both enjoyed our meals and I look forward to the day when I can return. Be sure to see the video on their web site if you need an overview of what the food is like.

Spicy and tasty Nepalese food

By The_wandering_eyes |

The restaurant itself is nice but modest. The food was very tasty and spicy (ask your waiter about how spicy a meal might be, the menu has no warning labels). My wife and I like Indian food and expect it to be spicy but some people might not like the tingling sensation in their lips). The food selection is good, with some meals we had not had before, and the service was good. The prices were reasonable.

Excellent, authentic Indian food

By Aidan C |

Excellent, authentic Indian food. I have been looking for a good papadi chaat for a long time and the one at this restaurant was great. As was the lamb saag. Friendly service too!

Best hidden treasure

By Jenny P |

Cozy atmosphere+delicious foods=Fantastic time. Was the best way to end our visit, my only regret was not asking for a naan basket to to. See you soon!

Great place for Indian or Nepalese food!

By LarsRo |

Good place. Huge servings. We had samosas as appetizer, but they were huge and tasty! Main course Chicken Madras and goat chili masal and Baigan bharta (egg plant dish). All was very tasty and we were not hungry anymore when we left!

Consistently Great

By C B |

I've seen more than one reviewer say that this, and every other Indian restuarant, is "not authentic" but I don't think that should discourage anyone from coming here. Maybe they've' blended flavors from different regions, but who cares? The result is fantastic. The vegetarian dishes are particularly good but we we also order lamb and chicken dishes that are good as well. If you are staying downtown and want delivery, they are fast and the food always arrives hot and fresh. The restaurant itself is on the small side, in very quiet residential neighborhood. It's a very short walk and pleasant walk from lots of downtown hotels, especially if you are staying on South Michigan Ave. If you want to get drinks after dinner, less than a block north you are on the main drag of Printers Row where there are a few decent options. Bonus: It's kitty corner from one of the best jazz venues in Chicago.

2nd Visit Did Not Disappoint

By Tricia N |

Lovely atmosphere, people & food. Highly recommend!! We ordered an ap, 2 entrees & just shared. Server recommended things we had never tried which fun!

Don't go to this place if you care about your health

By S N |

I am an Indian and love Indian food. 7th September long weekend went to chicago with friends. What a pleasent trip to Chicago until we went to Chicago Curry House. First of all we have to wait for 25 mins to get the starters, as the staff was busy with home delivery and takeouts. Disaster starts after getting the starter soups Vegi soups, tomata soups and chicken soup. It was pathetic, not at all fresh. We asked the waiter that these soups are pathetic can't have it. He said he will do something (with attitude) about it then gone and never came back. Then second surprise is the main course which was worst then starter. Guess what we all got upset stomach. Guys don't go to this place if you care about your health.

Great Food!

By Lisa H |

Authentic food very delicious!! I ordered a meal from the menu my husband got the all you can eat lunch Buffett. There were so many options on the Buffett and my Muttun Paneer was really delicious! Only complaint was the service was a little in-attentive and they had half the lifts off in the Restaurant. It was also a very hot day so they could have been combating heat.

Great food great atmosphere

By Dr. Watkins |

The food here is authentic and very tasty. The service is wonderful. If you are looking for great food in an amazing area come to Curry House.

One of the best Food in Chicago

By j0_prit |

It is not easy to find a good food in US if you are an international team eating out. This restaurant has meet all our needs. Vegetarian, Vegan, Meat Eaters were delighted. Even the friend from India was happy with this what he got.

Great Value, wonderful exotic indian and nepalese cuisine

By JimChicagoTraveller |

My office took me to Chicago Curry House for my Birthday and what a lovely surprise! They offered a buffet lunch service and it was a great choice. The buffet selections allows you to taste a little bit of everything. Yummy vegetarian selections, outstanding carrot desert. Will go back soon!

Wonderful dishes of India and Napal

By Dawna Leigh W |

This restaurant was within walking distance of our hotel and offered great service and excellent food. The nan was served with three sauces which were totally different. We had one seafood entrée and one lamb entrée, both served with jasmine rice. We also ordered a garlic nan which was very good. The service was outstanding. The portions were large enough to require a to go package. We will be back on our next trip to Chicago.

Nice place

By Senthil A |

This restaurant offers lunch buffet for $10.99. The variety and taste of food here is good. Lot of vegetarian options as well which is not the case with many other restaurants. Though it is not located in a 'happening' place, I would still go there when I crave for Indian food. I certainly recommend this place.

Just what I wanted

By Jacqui T |

I'd been craving an Indian curry, and the Chicago curry house provided a perfect one. The service was great. The food delicious. As a solo traveller on a Monday night I was given a comfy table by the window as it wasn't to busy.

Good Indian Food in Chicago

By Jeff P |

If you are looking for very good Indian food Chicago Curry House is a sure bet. They offer a very comprehensive menu that includes many vegetarian options, several of which are listed on their own page. My wife had a vegetarian tandoori that she raved about. Along with an assortment of great veggies it included a tasty paneer (cheese). I had a shrimp biryani that was quite good but I wish there were a few more shrimp in the dish. TIP: They will ask how spicy you want your dish, if you say hot be ready for a HOT dish. If it is what you like you won’t be disappointed. Lastly, they have a pretty decent wine list, something Indian restaurants lack at times. I had a very nice German Riesling that complimented my meal quite well.

Good Nepalese (from someone who’s only had it a few times)

By KidDocDMC |

Found this place through Yelp and Google maps. The menu has standard Indian fare but adds in a selection of Nepalese favorites. I had the non-veg Nepalese platter. It was good. The chicken was especially good with a different flavor profile from Indian food. The lentils were ok. I liked the black eyed peas a lot.

Yes, highly recommended

By Rory W |

Restaurant very comfortable. Service was excellent, seemed like we had several people attending to our needs. Was with a friend who eats Indian food quite a bit and she was very pleased with the food. Appetizers: Chicken Samosas (2) pieces, Mix Pakora and Garlic Naan. Very good. Meals: Lamb Tikka ($18.95) (chunks of marinated boneless lamb) and Chicken Tikka Masala. Both these dishes were delicious. I would order them both tomorrow if I were back in Chicago. Dessert:Gulab Jamun (small fried dough in saffron syrup), Kheer (similar to a rice pudding). The Gulab was sort of like a soft donut hole soaked in sweet syrup. My first time trying although probably would try something different next time. Rice was good. I had club soda with lemon and coffee to drink. Very fun trying so many different Indian tastes.

Decent indian food

By divya92 |

Food was okay, biryani was good. Curries were decent. Delivery was pretty slow though, delivered through grub hub.

VERY enjoyable meal/service/environment and value

By Rick F |

As infrequent Chicago visitors, we asked the Hilton concierge desk for recs on high-quality, locally-owned restaurants of any ethnicity. Last night's experience at the Chicago Curry House was all-around excellent. MANY exceptional tastes and levels of spiciness in a Curry House sampler and a similar Tandoori version. We were also more than satisfied with the pleasant/attentive hospitality, warm/comfortable surroundings - and the unfinished food that we took home provided another excellent meal.

Excellent Indian food

By Joene H |

We are visiting Chicago and this restaurant is close to our hotel. Fabulous dinner including vegetable momo as an appetizer, chicken curry and lamb saag. The garlic naan was some of the best we’ve ever eaten.

Good curry in Chicago

By TravelingScientist13 |

This is a good curry restaurant. They also have some Nepalese dishes, which was a new experience for me. We had the Nepalese spinach, which was delicious with a nice heat level. The Malai Kofta sauce was quite good. My only complaint is that the Koftas themselves were a bit doughy. The garlic nan was nice an garlicky and the samosas were excellent.

Not your usual curry buffet

By mazwoman |

I love Nepali food and it appeared in plenty in this buffet lunch menu. Sadly no chicken momos! But lots of well presented and tasty Indian and Nepali items on this large display. I think I had a little bit of everything and it was great. Even the papadums were puffed spiced ones - not the flat plain discs. I liked the addition of the Bombay poori too. Love Indian street food. Among the curried dishes was goat - not your usual buffet lunch item, I thought. The price was very reasonable and the restaurant was spotless. Wish we had one in Seattle!

Tasty and of course Spicy

By Jose S |

We just finished having the lunch buffet and everyone loved it. The food tastes great and the service was pretty good. Affordable and comfortable. Definitely would return.

Convenient and delicious

By Countryfan6410 |

Went for lunch during a business trip and left very satisfied. Not knowing much about Indian food, tried the buffet and all selections were very good. The spice level was perfect for someone like me who likes spicy, but not hot, food. service was outstanding and prices reasonable

Excellent, it took me back to India. The

By hoosierscience |

The service was excellent, wait staff was very willing to assist and the local community eats here too. The portions are nice, the food is spicy, but that is Indian. I had the non-vegan Nepali special and it was delicious. This is return place.

Just ok for our tast

By kmcCleveland_Ohio |

This was close to our hotel and recommended by the concierge. It was ok. I expected a little more interesting menu items. Perhaps a bit pricey.

Sugar and spice

By Tim P |

Excellent Indian cuisine Friendly family run restaurant. My first choice for Indian food in the city.

EXCELLENT

By Aaliya m |

The food was so delicious and the service was wonderful. You won’t be disappointed it’s different and highly recommended 👍🏽

Not so great

By Schmidly6 |

Very bland Indian food, was disappointing. Not much spices or flavor to the dishes. Staff seemed harried and displeased to be there. Wouldn’t return unfortunately. Used to like it here

Indian Delicasies

By Uday M |

At Chicago Curry House, you can find variety of Indian delicasies like buttermilk, rice, papad, puri, daal and pickle etc. I loved this place overall and would like to come for more food again n again

Flavorful Nepalese food!

By voyageurfoodie |

Enjoyed a meal here with my husband and was quite pleased with a lamb curry and eggplant dish. Service and price were good.

AMAZING!! :) all around

By Alexis Z |

food was DELICIOUS! tikka masala spice levels just right, flavor was spot on, garlic naan was amazing, mango lassis hit the spot, and we got complimentary rice pudding which was a fun surprise! the service was amazing too :) the staff were so attentive and kind! highly recommend :)

Amazing restaurant

Amazing service, and good quality food. The staff is super sweet and helpful. Definitely a visit worth!

Great food

By Robert P |

Chicago curry house has delicious Indian/Nepalese food. Large vegetarian section of the menu. Spicy and flavorful. Service was friendly but overworked.

NOT WORTH IT

By LeeDenmark |

The mixed Pakora was average, as was our Kadhai Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala dishes. I think my partner was more hungry than me as he was also more satisfied. It's a bit off the beaten track and I wouldn't go out of my way to find it.

Soooooo Good

By Selene |

We had never been here before but a friend wanted to go because they wanted to try something new. We (4 people) had , three appetizers, two different naans, and 4 entrees, 5 alcoholic drinks, and the mango pudding for dessert. We also chose all Nepalese dishes because we normally have Indian and wanted something different. Oh my gosh. Everything was sooooo good! We shared every dish between us so we all got to try everything. It’s a little out of our way for dinner but we don’t care. We’re going back! If your in Chicago and you want a good food experience this place is worth the Lyft/Uber! Go there. It’s amazing! And very affordable. Great vegetarian options too.

Flavorful

By spinachhead |

As first timers we got the Curry House Dinner, one vegetable and one non-vegetable (chicken and lamb tandoori). From the "chips and dips", which arrived first,to the dinner, to the masala tea..... everything was flavorful, mildly spicy. Next time I'll ask for a bit more heat. Naan was nice, a bit puffier than other spots, but good. Service was pleasant and attentive, but not bothersome. Great for a date, too. Will return!

Best in the City, Highly Recommend

By GTO |

We had the most delicious, top notch Nepalese, Indian dinner here. The menu is the most extensive I've ever seen, and well accommodated our mixed vegan and non-vegan family. There is a whole list of breads, naan, roti, more. I ordered Lamb Choila, with a rich BBQ flavor Indian style. Husband (vegan) ordered his standby, Aloo Gobi. Also family ordered, Chana Saag and Chicken Vindaloo, a classic. We all were delighted with the rich flavors and hearty portions with plenty to take home and enjoy the next day. Service was also timely and not intrusive. This is a great choice if you have vegans in your family as well. It's not the typical "only one choice for the vegans" restaurant. Everyone left full and happy. We will be back, regularly.

If you like Indian food you will like this place. The food is VERY GOOD, the only issue we had was the service was a little off.

Good Indian Cuisine

This restaurant is a quality buffet with plenty of authenticity, but offers very little options and uncomfortable seating.

Pretty good overall, but a little disappointing as well!

Tuesday night. Good number of people in restaurant. Previous years recognition from Zagat meant all good first impressions. Popadoms and lime pickle - excellent; onion Bhaji- excellent. Chardonnay - obviously excellent; Chicken Tikka Masala - very underwhelming. Very runny and okay taste, but honestly tasted like a supermarket curry. The white chicken chunks were good, but not chicken tikka as described. Will try another Indian restaurant next time.

Good Place Ok food

By FoodHelper01 |

I went there couple times, some food was good others are ok but probably not like I wanted, overall good place to enjoy Indian food

Great Place

Great customer service, nice place, very clean, great variety of food. Recommend for business lunches and family visits.

Good Curry but Issues

By Carole L |

Chicken Curry and Goan Fish were good, however, we had a hard time communicating with the staff. Most of them are from Nepal, and other than the very nice owner of the restaurant, the staff doesn't do too well with the English language as we were not able to communicate our questions and requests. What the staff should have done, was get the owner to come to the table to translate; unfortunately, we did not meet the owner until the end of our dinner. In any case, the food was good except for one bite of fish that tasted bad; otherwise, it was all very tasty.

Good Food near Downtown

By JBATrojan |

My wife and I have been here a couple of times and have thoroughly enjoyed the food each time we've been. They have a nice selection of Indian and Nepalese food (for both the courageous and the nervous eater) that usually comes out pretty quickly. The last time we went, the food took too long to show up - about an hour for two entrees and naan - but the restaurant didn't seem prepared for the large number of people who were eating there that night. Maybe they should have been, but we've had enough positive experiences at Chicago Curry House to keep us going back if we're in the area.

Awesomeness

By Lenora B |

This was my first time trying Chicago Curry House and it was nothing short of stupendous. As my favorite cuisines are Indian and Italian. I got everything mildly spiced but my Tandoori Mahi-Mahi was spectacular. The fresh Bhindi Masala (Fresh Okra) was phenomenal. The Samosas were the size of my fist and filled with delectable vegetables, spices and a flaky crust. I was purely in Heaven while eating. I will definitely be back but after the great meal the only thing missing was a fork or spoon and there weren’t any napkins but I managed. The quality and delicious food made me overlook the missing utensils and napkins.

Indian Delights

By Daniel V |

I went there in Oct and then returned in January. I must have loved it to walk there when the wind chill was minus 17 degrees F! The menu is extensive, with Nepalese and Indian specialties. I especially loved the Shrimp Madras. It had plenty of shrimp and a spicy, rich sauce. The Naan bread with minced lamb was also delicious. It was soft and very flavorful. You will want to mop up all the sauce with it! They gave free refills on diet coke and three different waiters came by to see if I was happy. It is not far to walk from the loop and on the way to the aquarium. Prices are very reasonable.

Tasty Indian at the Curry House

By Mike T |

The restaurant is located in the South Loop area of Chicago. I liked the atmosphere of the place and I ordered a quart of King Fisher beer along with a Veggie Bhojan (vegetarian platter with a number of veggie dishes in small bowls with a naan, yogurt dish, and some rice). Everything was tasty; but some of the dishes were better than others. Overall I enjoyed the meal as the service was good and as I mentioned before I found the dining room very relaxing. There appeared to be a lot of take-out orders when I was there so they appear to be a hit in the largely residential neighborhood. Would I visit again? I think definitely if I'm ever in Chicago again. My only quibble - maybe think of changing the name of the restaurant to something more imaginative.

heavenly

By chebean |

My husband and I were very hungry from our flight into Chicago. We picked up our rental car and the rental lady gave us a magazine which i pursued for place to eat. We weren't sure what we wanted to eat but we both wanted to try something different...and so we did! We could not have been any happier eating at this wonderful restaurant. The buffet was most excellent in that we could try almost everything..and that we did. Our tastebuds were singing and we ate until our bellies were full!! Not only was the restaurant quaint and intimate, but the surrounding neighborhood was too. It made out for a nice stroll back to the car. We can't wait for our return to the windy city and eat here again!!

Not your average Indian restaurant (in a good way)

By MILibraryGirl |

My spouse and I were wandering the South Loop area on 23 October 2014. We happened on the Chicago Curry House. In general, Indian restaurants are go-to places for us, being vegetarian. This restaurant didn't disappoint...except that they were out of an Indian white wine that I wanted to try. We opted for mutter paneer and the sag chana. Both were tasty, but not quite spicy enough (I suppose that we should have specified spicier when we ordered). The atmosphere was nice and the service was quite prompt.

Also Disappointed

By DrDickWarwickshire |

Food lacked authentic flavors and excessive use of bell peppers in inappropriate dishes. The atmosphere was ok and the price reasonable. If you often eat Indian or Bangladeshi cuisine you too are likely to be disappointed if our experience is matched!

Quality Indian Food, Fast Service, Nice Setting

By sheatly |

We stopped into this restaurant after two hours of walking around the water front. The staff was super attentive and the beer and snacks were on the table within just a couple of minutes. The food was very good. Not the best Indian I've ever had, but definitely quality. The restaurant was not crowded inside but there were many, many people getting take out during our dinner. Despite the busy take out crowd, the food came out quickly.

Amazing restaurant with Amazing service.

By Tim K |

As we came to America, the manager of the Curry House has shown us everything that is great about this country and the city of Chicago. After 18 years in Chicago, he has built an amazing restaurant, with great food and outstanding, personal service. If I didn't have to leave so soon, I would definitely come back. Really good.

Indian food perfection

By David O |

The food and service are the best I am hooked! :-) I highly recommend this place, I have never been disappointed. The biryani is phenomenal!!!

very fine Indian with a touch of Nepalese

By @david_b_lewis |

Menu looks like typical Indian restaurant, with a few additional dishes that we hadn't seen before, and of course tried. Nepalese influence, I suppose. As vegetarian-friendly and vegan-friendly as Indian places usually are; there is also a special vegetarian dinner for two (not vegan). Very fast service, but we were having a late dinner, and the place wasn't busy. The owner mentioned that they do a huge catering business, so I imagine that the kitchen could be much busier. All food very fine, nicely presented. Note: the entrance is actually on West 9th, in an area that otherwise seems to be residential and off the commercial strips.

FIVE STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

FIVE STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Beautifully decorated, friendly and helpful staff, incredible food! Stopped in before hours and kindly accommodated by owners/staff. Enjoyed this experience with traveling Ferris college students, fabulous cultural experience!!

18th Anniversary dinner with our teenagers

By Amymd73 |

This was our first time at this restaurant and it was great. We had a jazz show to attend and it was a perfect pre show meal. We had our teenage children in tow, they enjoyed the food too. Traditional Indian inspired menu. Good seating, although the tables in the booths seemed small. The service was excellent and friend. The food was fresh, hot and arrived quickly. Our server was nice, not much conversation, but friendly. I would recommend this place. We had tandoori chicken, lamb curry, butter chicken and lamb masala, we also had garlic naan. We will be going back!

Great Find in Quiet Neighborhood

By Mom529 |

My family was looking for something walking distance from the Renaissance Blackstone and different from the typical ethnic choices. We had a wonderful meal and it was the perfect spot on a chilly, rainy night. All 3 of us ordered the complete dinners, 2 with meat and 1 vegetarian. Everything was delicious, if a little more spicy than we had expected (keep your drinks filled and the raitha handy!). The butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, vegetable dishes and sweet rice dessert were all very good, with enough for leftovers. The soups weren't quite as good - the lentil was ok and none of us cared for the chicken. Still, we look forward to coming back next time we're in town.

Nice ambiance, good service & tasty food.

By Eric S |

The service was wonderful. Not obtrusive but friendly. The air conditioning was off- but the owner was doing his best with a difficult situation. The good came quickly & was very good. The ambiance was quiet and soothing.

Excellent Butter Chicken!

By Gigi392013 |

Loved the Butter Chicken. The Garlic Naan was tasty. Had the Okra vegetarian dish also which was excellent. Located in a nice part of town.

Good food, great service

By karthikkannan b |

Ordered several items both veg and non veg, received very authentic food which our whole family enjoyed. Delivered on time. but the only thing is that I was asking the restaurant person to replace steam basmati rice with saffron saying I will pay extra if needed but he refused, no big deal. Good and tasty food.

Best Nepalese / Indian Restaurant in Chicago Hands Down

By Global442955 |

The Staff is very accommodating and friendly. The ambiance is perfect too! Lite jazz softly playing and the restaurant is super clean. You can tell they take pride in providing an upscale experience. All glasses and utensils were obviously polished and that is a huge plus. Last but not least, the food and drinks are superb! Best Nepalese/Indian food in Chicago and the prices are on point!

Halal restaurant nearby McCormick Place

By arifudin_a |

I was attending a conference in McCormick PLace and stayed in a hotel neraby. Found this restaurant on a webpage, confirmed as a halal restaurant, and only a block away from the hotel. Their food was great, I tried their chicken tikka masala. Wasn't creamy enough, but tasty. Their curry also great too.

Tasty Indian Food

By TravelTourTime |

The Taste at the Chicago Curry House located at Plymouth Court Street, Chicago was good. We went there two consecutive days. They had many North Indian varieties. They do not have any South Indian food menu like Dosai, Idli, Vadai, etc.

Good food but bad service

By Nicole W |

We waited certainly 15 minutes and had finally to call a waiter just to be given the menus. The staff was not nice. The food was good, but not the best indian food we had.

Mild Indian cousines to suit every palate

By AnkurTravography |

The buffet was a nice spread of dishes ranging from various breads (roti) and main courses. Although being habituated to Indian 'masalas' (spices) I found it to be a bit mild but certainly tasty. Good for western palliated people who want to try Indian food.

Best Indian Cuisine in South Loop

By Ted H |

Excellent food and atmosphere. Dishes tend to cater to those who like hot and spicy food. Bad choice for mild tastebuds.

The best curry I’ve ever had

By Kyra S |

The butter shrimp curry is to die for!!!! Nisha gave us excellent service. A great place for a date night friend group or family gathering!!

Excellent food

By Erika C |

We loved this place. They had wonderful food and authentic to boot. We could not have asked for a better night here. They were polite and helpful and the flavor was unreal. As an avid curry eater and world traveler I have tried it in a lot of places and this restaurant was as good as some in more authentic areas. Definitely a place to hit if you are n the area!

Very fine Nepalese and Indian

By Henry F |

I am surprised at some of the negative reviews. They did not match our experience at all. We thought it one of the finest Indian restaurants in Chicago. The Nepalese specialties are an added bonus, as they are rarer. But the basic Indian dishes are excellent and richly seasoned. The lamb sag featured tender lamb, plenty of spinach, and complex seasonings. The Chili Chicken was very spicy (as we like it, and as we were warned). The best part was that the plentiful chunks of chicken were perfectly cooked and moist and tender. I often find chicken dry and over cooked in Indian restaurants, but absolutely not here. Fresh slices of chili peppers add to the heat. Service was fine, small but nice wine list.

Very good curry selection

By TexisTraveler |

Combines Nepalese and Indian curry and other dishes. Novel. The spicing is NOT toned down for American taste, so beware. But the food was very flavorful. We had Lobster and lamb curry. I would have liked more meat in the dishes. Just down the street from the Jazz Showcase - so dinner then a show is a must!!

Love!

By dmarie208 |

This place is great! The food is wonderful (and plentiful). The staff is very attentive, and treated us like regulars when we went just a few times. Highly recommend!

Average

By jcarleton |

Not bad for Indian food, but just average. Food seemed a little pricey. Servers were only mildly attentive. While Nepalese food is on the menu, stick with the Indian, they do a better job of that.

Sohum so good

By Me T |

Really awesome food. Seems little off the beaten path however, there was a constant flow of customers. In s ide it was a little darkbutclean. We were greeted warmly and brought some delicious traditional crisps with sauces. All had a rich fresh flavor. Dinner was a casual pace. We ordered a two items; cauliflower and eggplant dish. Both had intense warm flavors and appropriate texture and spice. The rice was not remarkable. We also had garlic and plain naan. They too were cooked well. As an aside / dessert the mangoe lassi was refreshing and complimentary. The meal itself pricey but we would and will return.

Nice little Indian Restaurant

By Sam Jo |

This is small place but a decent option for Indian food. Walked to this hotel during my stay at ESSEX INN Chicago. Hotel offered PAPAD as free starters even before we had settled at our place. Waiters were very prompt. Small bar had multiple brands from across the globe. A surprise. The portions served were generous. I opted for SPINACH dish as a safe choice, you cant mess spinach dish much during preparation. It was good. Rice was included and was served with the dish. The place is quiet which was a plus. Will definitely recommend to those who want to taste Indian food. and yet this place is not for those who are Connoisseurs of Indian food. They will be disappointed.

Priyanka vacation before school

By gomia1979 |

Food is ok. The ambience is good. The service is average to poor. The sag chicken we ordered was good. The other dishes just average. The nan was hard. The place is pricy for the poor service at the restaurant. Will not be going back.

Homely taste

By Mysore A |

Courteous staff, good ambience, homely taste delicious to the palate at an affordable price in the busy hub is a boon for the taste buds.

Good food; friendly staff

By HaroldsMaude |

Had a nice meal during a recent city visit. $40 for 2, no alcohol. Shared appetizer (gorgeous presentation; doughy samosas) separate curries (nicely seasoned) and teas. The place is a quiet and an oasis in a bustling city.

A must go-to restaurant! 5 STARS!!!

By William A |

Highly recommend! Great food! Great environment! Top notch service! Flavorful, timely and will absolutely return!

Great!

Food was great. Service was great. My wife and I enjoyed everything we ordered. Would definitely go back.........................

Indianesque

By Sam Maan |

We returned to this restaurant during our visit to Chicago this year after having their lunch buffet the previous year. The lunch is excellent and good value for the money. I liked that one could order Indian wine (Sula) with one's food. The food is Indianesque in that while the food is North Indian, it definitely has a Nepalese flavor that enhances it. I recommend the green beans dish that is unusually flavored and tastes lovely. The restaurant definitely appears to be popular among the locals.

Buffet Lunch at Chicagi Curry house

By Rakesh Khare |

During our visit to Chicago at this Nepali restaurant for lunch we thought of relishing good Indian food. We had buffet lunch. Though the dishes were almost Indian, the gazar halwa, Goat mutton curry etc were not good. We couldn't enjoy the lunch. They need to improve the quality of food.

Absolutely wonderful

By Raven R |

Everything was absolutely great Nissa the sever was absolutely wonderful t and the food was absolutely amazing this was my first time trying Indian food I would give this restaurant 10 stars ! Highly recommend for date nights

Tasty and Delicious! If you haven’t tried Indian food, try Chicago Curry House. If you have, DEFINITELY try it!

By Leighduh |

While visiting my son in South Loop, we decided to try Chicago Curry House. The owner recommended we try the Non-Vegetarian Combo Dinner. It was a delicious combination of flavors that complimented each other perfectly. As a bonus, there is a full bar and the cocktails were tasty and not skimpy on the ingredients!

Small but accommodating

By lizardMarquette_MI |

We held a diner for 20 here. Service was slow, but food is better than average and the staff was very accommodating. We had the Veggie Platter for appetizers and most had a Tikka Masala dish-- very good! Obscurely located in Plymouth Square apartment complex.

Wonderful food!

By Cleo L |

The hospitality and customer service was amazing! I came with my friend and we both really enjoyed our meals and the friendly environment. Seating was comfortable as well and servers were very attentive! Will definitely come again!

Chicago Curry House is great place to have Indian Food in Chicago down town. We enjoyed our Indian Cuisine there when we visit Chicago down town.

A tasty treat for dinner

By wkrupa |

This was my first time here and it is a spot I will keep on my list for future visits. The chicken soup was a bit of a surprise, with more of a yellow curry broth instead of chicken stock. It was tasty though and had plenty of chicken in it. I had a chicken dish and cheese garlic bread. I asked for the dish to be spicy and I was a bit disappointed at the heat level. That said the broth was incredibly tasty and I had more chicken than you would expect and a great plate of rice perfectly cooked. The bread was to die for, it was soft enough to pick up all the leftover broth. I had one of their large beers which turned out to be light and tasty. All in all I would think my totally clean plate and zero broth tells the tale of this delightful dinner, darn inexpensive to boot. This would be a great place to take a few people for a tasty meal.

Average

By Sruthi N |

I am Indian and I love Indian food.. Here, food was okay, but too spicy and oily. We wanted to order with the help of the menu card, but, the waiter asked us to go for buffet. But the particulars which we wanted was not there on the buffet.( Lacha Paratha, Traditional Indian Vegetable Biriyani and Chicken Kuruma). while taking the order, he was saying that,"why don't you go for buffet? it required very less cost. why are you paying this much of money?" Like that he was insisting us to run behind the buffet. And their service was also really bad. They were simply given the plates to my husband's hand. once served, those guys haven't come to our table. They didn't care about us at all.

Absolutely Delicious

By Kristie T |

The chicken tikka masala, saag Chana, and butter chicken were all fantastic dishes. Now, the bread basket was to-die-for with plain, garlic and onion naan perfect for dipping into the sauces. We ate everything with glee and there were tons of tasty leftovers to enjoy the next day that reheated well.

Solid Indian/Nepalese food option

By TravelsFarAndWisely |

My wife and I had a nice quiet dinner at the Chicago Curry House. The waiter understood that we were not in a hurry and allowed us to order each course separately. We had the Sambar Soup which was very tasty. The Veg MoMo appetizer was passable, but little flavor and the dough on a couple of the dumplings had dried/hardened at the edges. The Lamb Tikka Masala was solid but would have been better with a little more lamb and larger chunks. The Farsi Bhaji was a very nice preparation of green beans and both the bean flavor and sauce came through nicely. Overall, the meal was good but not memorable.

Buffet

By LifeisgoodChicago |

I have only visited the buffet and it is very good. Service is very good as well. After you are seating they bring naan to the table and we refill as requested

BEST MEAL IN WINDY CITY

By dhaval05 |

When you come to the place where you really wanna enjoy some good " Ghar ka Khana" here is the place chicago curry house i stayed in chicago for four days (for Business Trip) and this restaurant was very close to my Hotel Chicago Essex Inn the hospitality is great , good food Nepalese and Indian, quick service, hotel manager is on toes to serve you the best...since i was alone for four days ....dey made me feel like home ....and all four days they served me the best dishes and in good quantity...whenever i am in chicago I am gonna step in this restaurant only....All the best guys you people are doing the great job.. :)

Mediocre

By SunLover608 |

Server acted arrogant and appeared annoyed by simple questions about Indian beer selections and menu items. He also indicated he could not do 3 separate checks for our party of 6, no effort to make our dining experience pleasant. Food is very spicy. We are used to being able to choose spice level to some extent. Atmosphere is nice and food was okay. Our party was polite and laid back, but it felt strange to be treated as though we were a nuisance to our server. Chicago has way too many food places to waste time in this place.

Pretty fancy decor and yummy menu choices

By newberr1 |

I went here on a Thursday because that's when they have their lunch buffet. It was pretty quiet when we went. It was very good. They had so many choices. The classic curries with lamb and chicken. Also paneer, pakora and samosas. Lots of rice and lentils. Also there were definitely vegetarian options. The waiters were very attentive and always had our waters refilled. I also love that they are a part of uber eats, I can get their chicken makini anytime I want!

Turmeric lovers

By Antaryami |

The one noticeable ingredient in the food is turmeric, too much of it. Indian food cannot taste good with and overdose of turmeric and that too untempered. Btw, who puts turmeric in chicken momos? I wanted to order the aloo tikki with yougurt instead of chickpeas. The waiter flatly refuses. I asked can you give chick peas on the side and he says yes, "so why can't I get yogurt on the side?" "No, you can't." "Can I talk to the manager" .. "he is busy". You get the picture. So all reviews about poor service are true. I finally get to the manager, he understands and tries. It did not turn out as expected but he tried so much appreciated. The khasi ko masu (goat curry) was nice but meat was too chewy. The curry tasted great though. The Peshawari naan was not as nice as I have had at other places. The rice quality was a let down. It was dry and unlike basmati. Overall I was hoping for a better experience but I am hoping tandoori and chicken items would be better. Hope you like it more than I did!

Good Food and Prices

By A F |

This restaurant was recommended to us by the concierge at our hotel. It is a small restaurant for reservations might be necessary. The food was good, there is a blend of Indian and Nepalese items on the menu. Prices are fair and the staff was friendly.

Nice Indian Food

By Sam Jo |

I was told owners are from Nepal. However they serve good Indian food. This seems to be popular joint in neighbourhood. They take orders and deliver to houses. When I went, parcels were waiting for atleast 10 deliveries. There were many locals in restaurant. This was new compared to my last visit to this restaurant three years ago. The portions are of decent size. I ordered aloo paratha and spinach subji which was served with rice. The restaurant is two blocks away from Roosvelt CTA station where you can catch Green, Orange and Red line trains.

Lunch buffet

By Arun_Negi |

Went with my wife for lunch buffet after reading the reviews in Yelp and trip advisor. I was expecting it to be really good based on all the reviews but food quality was good but not excellent, saag paneer was really good. Overall the place is nice but not exceptional.

Great service, food below avergage

By Matt |

Quite at early dinner time. Great, friendly service. Would be family friendly early. Food was below average. Naan and rice very plain.

Great food near Jazz Showcase.

It was a nice little place with fantastic food. Loved the Butter Chicken. Everything was really good

Best Nepalese food at Chicago

By Kamal P |

We had the best Mo mo and Chomin at Chicago Curry House. The restaurant is very clean, service people are very friendly. Good for the meeting.

Best food, friendly staff!

By Mike M |

The food is so consistently good that I make it a point to come here whenever I'm in Chicago. It's truly the best, and the genuinely sweet and friendly staff make the experience even better.

A nice neighborhood restaurant

By Jim D |

This is an Indian/Nepalese restaurant located at the end of Plymouth Court, which is a very leafy, shady street that runs parallel to the much busier north-south thoroughfares like State Street. So walking from our hotel down Plymouth Court was like we weren't in Chicago at all but maybe just a nice, comfy neighborhood in almost any town in North America. The walk put me in a great mood, which was helped further along by the very good food and service at the Curry House. My only problem was that we ordered much too much food and since we were staying in a hotel there was no way we could bring home a doggie bad. I had a vegetable tandoor dish, which was very good although a bit dry. It could have been even better if it had a little sauce of some kind. But overall this is a very good restaurant and one that I look forward to patronizing again on my next trip into the Windy City.

So so

By multitrips |

We were attracted by the idea of Nepalese food, but really this is a standard strip-mall restaurant. The chicken dishes were all made with thigh meat, the service was average, and the food overall was not exciting.

Impressively Authentic

By Diane W |

I took two colleagues of Indian descent as I had hoped they would enjoy the experience. They were most impressed by the freshness, variety and Nepalese chef on premises. I have dined there many times and knew I enjoyed the many dishes but was so pleased my friends were happy. The service is always wonderful- never rushed or ignored. I will return often. The moo moo appetizers, eggplant, tandoori, assorted naans- I can't name every delicious dish.

Horrendous customer service, inedible bland food

By Jon L |

I would give them zero stars if I could. I ordered a $190 catering tray of Chicken Tikka and they didn't follow the directions and gave us a tray of bland chicken. It just had some heat and lemon flavor. Nothing even remotely like Chicken Tikka. I order it from Nepal House all the time and it's delicious. This was nothing but some chicken breast with a little cayenne and lemon powder. It was also dry to the bone and very tough. When I called in and spoke with the manager he told me that there's nothing he can do, that it needed to marinate for at least 3 days and they weren't able to. He refused to replace it, and ended up hanging in my face, twice. He was super rude. It's never a good sign when a restaurant can't actually stand behind their product. After looking at other reviews here I noticed that the manager there has no customer service skills, so I decided to try to reach out to the owner. After a week of attempts I still haven't been able to get a hold of them. Hoping that they can still make this right.

An English women’s review of a stand out Indian Restaurant (among several visited across 🇺🇸)

By Gina D |

This restaurant is located in a quiet (but safe) back street. Situated among several other restaurants, and bars. Whenever I travel to the United States from England I always try to sample Indian cuisine. Naturally on my first night in Chicago my friend and I came here. It had all the Indian food that folk from the UK might recognise, Korma, Massala, Vindaloo etc. I initially thought when ordering that prices on comparison were expensive but they were not. Also unlike England they asked how hot I wanted the Massala! Not a res flag, but interesting. Anyhow the food was great. Massala slightly different tasting but still nice. A massive bowl of onion bhajis and popadams also were brought. So definitely represented good value. The bhajis were super-tasty! I recommend. Good service. Good Food and selection of drinks. For two people with taxes and tip came in at $105 which I felt was fair. Subject to folks own experiences of other Indian restaurants in the United States ( I’ve been to quite a few) I feel this one is stand out.

Really good Indian food

Wonderful food, tried four dishes and all were very good. Appetizers also very good and nice decor. Generous servings and great location.

Incredible Indian & Nepalese Restaurant

By Kimberly K |

Peaceful ambiance~ Attentative service~ Hospitable, welcoming management~ reasonably priced~ AMAZING food! What a wonderful jewel of a restaurant in Chicago~ having enjoyed Indian food internationally, until now, we've yet to find such a great place here Stateside. Everything is cooked to order- any of the staff, especially management is happy to make suggestions to try something new- and are always spot on. Plentiful presentation is lovely & fresh, service impeccable- lovely place for couples, business, family, friends or a solo treat!

Authentic but too spicy

By Cristina Brasileira |

Good restaurants but its difficut to find mild options, so be prepared for that. We were in 5 persons and asked for 3 entrees and 3 main dishes. We could not eat everything because the portions are big. Try Taj Mahal beer.

All kinds of curry

By klhchicago |

This is an innocuous place for newbies who have never tried curry and for those who like their curries. We had 3 seasoned lovers of curry and one family member new to curry. This place accommodates even those who are lactose intolerant as well. The food is always consistent and comes with plain white rice and has an extensive menu of Indian dishes and some Nepalese too. Two of us have been here several times and find the food to be consistently good. The only thing is the service is not always attentive but not problematic.

Pardon the Spice!

By Geo89_12 |

Great place for your standard Indian, the Samosa's were great, and the Naan was equally as tasty. We ordered chicken biryani as we normally do, were completely surprised on how spicy it was. Neither my wife or myself could even finish as our mouths were on fire. I'm a bit surprised they would make it so spicy without asking, on the other hand we didn't tell them keep it mild. Restaurant is in a great south loop location right off state street with a nice peaceful ambiance. Would return if in the area.

Dissapointed

By KPNP19 |

Was expecting a lot from this place. It usually has pretty solid reviews. Arrived and found the atmosphere to be average at best. The service was only OK and the food was slightly better than average. Was hoping for more and likely will not return.

Quick dinner while visiting the city

By briannunya |

I was looking for Indian food while visiting the city on my own. Curry House did not disappoint. The restaurant was pretty full on a Tuesday night and you could tell there were a lot of locals. I had the Lamb Biryani which was excellent! The service was very quick and very friendly. I will definitely go there again while on my next visit to Chicago.

Very good Indian food

By SteveInAtlantaGa |

I was staying at a nearby Michigan Avenue hotel and looking for a good place nearby and ran across the Chicago Curry House. It looked good so I stopped in. I ordered the vegetarian special, which included curried vegetables, lentils, a curried spinach, and potatoes and cauliflower. It probably changes from day to day, but was a nice selection. Plus rice, papadum and nan. Seemed a good value for someone who was alone and got a nice red wine with it. It was moderately spicy, and quite good. Service was friendly.

Curry in chicago

By Carmen V |

The place was really nice and the owner was so friendly. The food was amazing and is definitely worth going here. Definitely the place to have curry in Chicago.

Delicious Lunch Buffet

By Tramble |

A nice selection on the all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. Without being overwhelmed by choices, the veggie dishes were separate from the chicken, goat, and other curries. Impressive fresh green salad choices with several dressings. Two different tasty dessert choices. Consider ordering a Mango Lassie drink (mango & yogurt blend) to quell the "heat" of spicy dishes. Per the photo, my plate was filled with teaspoon-size samples of many offerings on the buffet and I was full! All delicious! The manager was attentive and welcoming. Located in the South Loop, this restaurant is a short walk from the Metro Electric Museum Campus exit. High recommendations for The Chicago Curry House.

lunch buffet is only so so!!

I went there for lunch by see a review on one of Chicago's restaurant magazine. I had high hopes with this restaurant only to find the selections was only fair. I loved curry chicken and there were none. Only curry goat and some roasted chicken. The nan bread brought over to the table came piping hot was the highlight of the meal.

I gotta tell you about my awesome experience at Chicago Curry House! So, I went there yesterday and man, it was incredible. I had the most mouthwatering momos ever, seriously, they were on point. And to top it off, the chowmein was full of flavor and the noodles were cooked to perfection. I'm telling you, if you're craving some amazing Nepali and Indian food, this place is a must-visit. Don't miss out!
