Small restaurant, nice menu, quiet neighborhood.

By Jane s |

This restaurant is outside of downtown in an up and coming neighborhood. This makes it easy to part or walk, which we did from our hotel. They offer a variety of oysters which are fresh and served very cold, as should be. Their appetizer menu is sufficient for dinner - great choices. Their side dishes are also original and very good.

Great service, exemplary tastes

By Bola D |

Evening out with friends and saw the restaurant online with great reviews. Was not disappointed. Experienced great service and spectacular tastes. Lamb chops were grilled to perfection and the taste was exemplary. Also ordered the grilled shrimps, seafood pasta and teriyaki chicken. All very well prepared and great tasting. Miso seafood soup could be better but still tasted great. Would highly recommend.

Nice place out of the way

By richardbL6837CD |

We were staying at the hotel near the convention centeer and found this wonderful resturant. It does have all three - seafood, Steaks & chicken. It is a very nice place not to large and there is good lighing. The staff was good as was the food. It is not cheep but I thoguth the prices were fair.

Oyster heaven

By Choly S |

Ordered four appetizers instead of regular entrees. The calamari fritti edible but far from unforgettable but the oysters were simply sublime.

Excellent oysters and seafood

By s3desouz |

Sat at the bar and service was excellent. Oysters were fresh and delicious. Miso soup with seafood was a creative take on my favourite soup when eating sushi. Lobster tail was phenomenal. Highly recommend!

Food was excellent, very convenient to McCormick Place

By BoatLadySusan |

Walking distance from McCormick Place. The food was absolutely delicious, service was great. Great menu choices and the oysters were amazing and fresh.

Delicious dinner

By Andreea F |

Group dinner - delicious food, prompt service. I personally ordered the fried calamari and Salmon Teriyaki Entrée and I totally enjoyed it.

Good Location for Business with Good Food

By Frank W |

I was invited to dinner at this quaint restaurant and was pleasantly surprised with both menu and quality. Oysters are the specialty with variety from both west and east coast. The grill oysters were excellent and again good choices. Each day has a unique appetizer specially priced. My choice of the day which was Wednesday consisted of oysters grilled and fried. The business associate ordered grilled shrimp and they were tastily prepared to perfection.

Good experience in dining

By 278jackr |

On a business trip, we tried this place. Raw oyster were delicious, a little pricy. Selection was good. Had the yellow fish cheeks, they were excellent. The service was excellent. The menu had a very interesting variety. Our group had different items, we were all pleased with the our selections. The prices were within range for downtown restaurants. Excellent experience. Give it a try.

Superb oysters

By Debra J B |

The fresh oysters were very good. The food was excellent. Service beyond excellent. I can't explain how much i love this plce. You must try fresh oysters, southern fried oysters, clam chowder, grilled prawns. No dissapointment.

Excellent Experience

By Gregory N |

Excellent atmosphere, bar, oysters and sushi. Safe and clean area of town that you can walk after dark. Wait staff accommodating and friendly.

Great seafood

By JediTraveller |

We had a great meal here. The oysters were tasty. Entrees were delicious. Fish was cooked perfectly. The only downside was that the server mixed up our ticket with another party and so we were initially charged too much. Luckily we noticed it. We think it was corrected in the end but will keep an eye out on the charges to the credit card. Pleasant evening otherwise. Within walking distance of McCormick Place. Nice place for a birthday meal.

If you like oysters, this is the place

By Taylor B |

At first, my wife and I were hesitant about dining at Chicago Oyster House Prime Seafood & Steaks. Why? Because we aren't into oysters or sushi or raw fish of any kind, which is the restaurant's specialty. But the website indicated we might be overlooking a good thing. So we made a reservation. And we're glad we did. Located at 1933 South Indiana Avenue in Chicago's McCormick Square, in the South Loop, next to the McCormick Convention Center, it has been specializing in raw fish, oysters, sushi, sashimi and other seafood since 2013. It has earned a reputation for "best grilled oysters in Chicago" and "one of the top 21 oyster houses in the United States" while serving customers in a bright and airy space with a modern flair. The oyster bar showcases more than 60 oyster selections from the East and West coasts. And if you are very thirsty, you can purchase a red wine by the bottle, Meritage, 1/6 Opus One, from Napa, California, for $595. We aren't wine drinkers, either. But there were plenty of tasty options to satisfy our tastebuds--and in our price range, too. We started with a plate of jumbo chilled shrimp, two bowls of New England clam chowder with fresh clams, potato, onion, carrots and celery and Caesar salad with romaine, croutons and parmesan cheese. For an entree, my wife chose grilled Scottish salmon topped with mint and basil sauce with steamed white rice and sauteed broccoli with garlic. I opted for a 10-ounce center cut filet with Wasabi mashed potatoes and sauteed baby spinach with garlic. For dessert, we shared a large slice of key lime pie and white chocolate blueberry cobbler. Chicago Oyster House is open from 5 to 9 Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 5 to 10 on Friday and Saturday. Next time, I might be encouraged to discover if southern fried oysters are as good as they sound.

Out of the way - but great food

By Jeremy C |

On a corner away from the main areas of Millennium Park this place is a real find. Excellent food and reasonably priced. Go for the fresh fish which they'll prepare pretty much any way you want.

Terrible atmosphere!! Does not match the prices/vibe of the food

By sarah catherine |

My review is solely based on the atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant. Our hotel recommended it so we walked over and were unsure immediately as we got there and walked in. There were curtains up on both windows so you could not see the outside and yet it was so bright in the restaurant. They were playing new country music and it was almost completely empty. We ended up getting up and leaving before we even ordered drinks. I can’t speak for the food, but the atmosphere itself was enough for me to come on here and write about it.

Very good, but not quite memorable.

By cjdesai |

its very comfortable, stylish but not snooty. The food was good, well presented. We started with oysters Rockefeller, shared the grilled shrimp and salad. The side of wasabi mashed potatoes was excellent. Beer, wine.......no breads. Best part: not noisy!

Chicago Restaurant Week last Night with Roc

By Leonard G M |

Chicago Oyster House Some place close.... Sunday night and we were out for dining.... The location was familiar and the restaurant has changed. The door was still hard to open, the warm of the restaurant was new.... The greeting was very friendly and neighborly. The menu was See (Sea) food and it was on point. This was Chicago Restaurant Week last day. This was a great choice by my cousin. Roc has clam chowder (it was in the bowl-the clam Himself), sea weed salad, and was able to extend her meal by have bites for the four course meal across the table. The four course meal included a Caesar Salad with the anchovies (room to upscale) have great favor and the green were fresh with shaved Parmesan, and four croutons (who’s counting). The 2nd course was Shrimp Shumai (steamed shrimp dumplings). This did not sit well with Rochelle. The 3rd course were 3 well plated lamb chop prepared medium temperature was Thai sauce reduction that was very tasty. The last (4th course) course was just to little yet great taste. The crust was very pleasing and the filling with the whipped cream on top on the pie allow the palate to be pleased. Yes we did get the ala carte spinach. Carmen coached us well on making sure the spinach would have dripping with water. This meal takes Ala Carte service to Highest level. This is a place to return after Chicago Restaurant Week. Carmen was the great.... 💎💎💎💎 Shalom

Just before a show

By george w |

Stopped in for a quick dinner before a show at Soldier Field. Great little upscale place before the madness. Staff was friendly the service was quick and the food was great. I'll definitely go back when I have a little more time.

Excellent oysters and seafood

By arthur0215 |

Had six raw oysters and the sushi "special." Both were top notch. Oysters were briny and tasty, big and fresh, all from New England. They have a large selection from which to choose. The deluxe sushi included tuna, salmon, yellowtail, shrimp, scallop, unagi and super white tuna sushi, along with a California roll. Haven't had better of either. Highly recommended.

Thoroughly enjoyed the food and ambiance!

By Kent B |

Ate here with some co-workers recently. Saddled up to the bar, and had some drinks. Decided on the ny strip steak (excellent) and we had some truffle fries, sushi rolls, and some other apps. All were wonderful. Helpful, fun staff, and a modern (but comfortable) design throughout the restaurant add to the score here. Definitely recommend this place if you are in the area.

BOOOOOO

By SVB31707 |

We arrived about 15 mins early and the restaurant hadn't opened, although the door was open. We walked in and the hostess informed us that they weren't open. We explained that we just completed a lengthy walk to their restaurant and that we were in town for a convention. We asked if we could wait in the waiting area which was a short bench inside the restaurant. She told us we could not. She offered no sympathy or compasion and sent us back outside in the heat for 15 mins. Needless to say, we left their "fine" establishment and stumbled across a little Mexican restaurant a few blocks up.

Not all that!

By DejaVu1115 |

We had reservations for 5 people, celebrating a birthday. Overall the food was food, portions were small. One guest ordered dessert & the waitress brought that dessert decorated with HBD for another guest. So they don't give you a free dessert for someone celebrating a birthday, that was a bit rude. Just average overall.

Good Seafood, Chicago Price

By Maine-ahh |

As a New Englander I was hesitant to go with a large group to a seafood place in Chicago. However, the selections and quality were better than expected, but cameat a price since it all had to be flown in. We tried some oysters on the half shell and they were good. I had seafood pasta which included mussells and clams in the shell along with a scallop not in the shell, and some calamari. Overall good, but not really the food you travel to Chicago to eat.

Too slow

By C9945JZwilliamc |

Was there with a party of 8. Apps took 45 mins, food took 45 mins. It was wierd having one persons food come out at a time and waiting for the next. We all sat together but didnt eat together. This is my second time there and it was identical visit. Same complaints. I will not go there again. Wasnt very impressed with the waitress. We had to order when it was convenient for her.

Horrible Service

By tomkat1989 |

Waited for service for 20 minutes after being seated and only getting water. Expected better service and was hoping to, at least, try the food. Good luck to anyone trying to have a meal while visiting Chicago!

Seafood

By Jim T |

nice small restaurant but great service and food. Great calamari and fresh seafood. We had a very friendly server. Great from begining to end. I recommend this place if your in Chicago.

Great meal in a warm and cozy, sleek environment

By Mamabago |

We were here for a pre-theatre dinner with another couple. Good was great - sushi amazing! Bar menu plentiful. Service was great and we didn't feel rushed to get to the theatre in time.

Not thrilled

By Curiosity66387542222 |

Food ok But they lie. They advertise on Facebook $1;50 oysters but $3.25 when you get there. For that price, I would rather go toGobson’s and have a. Fine dining experience rather than an expensive dumpy experience

Good restaurant close to McCormick Place

By drnurseth |

This is a smaller restaurant with fresh fish, sushi, and fish appetizers. The menu is not extensive. There is a fish of the day as well as shrimp and other shellfish. There is beef on the menu, but the portions are very large. The fish was cooked perfectly and the service was excellent. All sides are al a cart, so a bit pricey. It is within walking distance of the Hyatt and Marriott Marquis that are connected to McCormick Place.

Loved the oysters

By Helena H |

Wow. I had the best southern fried oysters. The service was on point. Food quality was the best. Very clean and comfortable atmosphere. Would gladly go back.

Tasty oysters and sushi

By Norman Walsh |

I wandered down to the Oyster House from the nearby convention center for a bit of a change from hotel restaurant fare. The oysters were delicious as was the sushi. They had a good beer selection and a small but reasonable enough wine selection. I thought it was a little expensive, but I only sat in the bar area, comfortable and casual. The main dining room seemed very nice and might have made for an experience more suited to the prices.

Cardboard shrimp sashimi

By Adamgraffiti |

Nice staff, at least when it concerns the waitress and the guy taking care of the water and such. Second time around in 12 days but this time both the shrimp sushi as well as the shrimp sashimi tasted like the cardboard blanket of a Chicago homeless person. Mentioned it to waitress but apart from her sharing this feedback with her boss/colleague/manager (?) nothing happened which is a pity looking at a $138 bill for two.....hope they soon change their supplier as well as their managerial attitude.

Outstanding Dinner and Outstanding Service

By Joe L |

We had a wonderful dining experience at Chicago Oyster House on 7/21. First, the oysters are amazing. We had 1/2 dozen raw (Connecticut) and 1/2 dozen of the baked oysters with all 4 preparations. We also had the scallops which were fantastic. Secondly, for dinner we had the fresh fish mahi-mahi, rack of lamb and surf and turf. They were all excellent. Most importantly, we had TREMENDOUS service not only from the waiter, but his partner sure we never had a dirty dish on the table or an empty glass of water. He went above and beyond and I hope the manager recognizes his service.

Amazing

By Patricia M |

The food was amazing! Nice selection of oysters. Great service and staff was very friendly. Food was fresh and seasoned very nicely. Casual atmosphere and walking distance from the McCormick Place.

comfort food

By Gaurav G |

had a quiet early dinner on a weekday. The food was simple, flavourful and comforting. ceviche had a good portion and balanced flavours. oysters were good but nothing worth remembering. The staff was great and very helpful.

Don’t waste your money.

By Susan D |

This was a big rip off. The windows were filthy and outside of the restaurant was unmowed with weeds. Not very enticing. I should have known never to step in the place. Server was not up to par for the price of the food. Don’t waste your money

It's Not All Oysters!

By bryantcpa |

I almost passed on the restaurant because of the name. I'm not a fan of oysters. However, they had a number of other seafood options. They also had sushi and sashimi. We were here for business. Had the teriyaki salmon and it tasted great. Service was really good also.

Great Bar

By Sara A |

We sat at the bar and had dinner. The bartender was fantastic. The food was phenomenal. We started with fried oysters (best) and had three sushi rolls and the seafood boil. Nothing disappointed. Would highly recommend.

Oysters Galore! No matter how you like them, they have them

By swede52497 |

Oysters from the east coast, west coast prepared for anyone's taste. Great service - go during happy hour and oysters are only $1 each instead of $17 for 6.

Good if you like Garlic :)

By Amy M |

I'm not complaining, it's a great place to eat just a little garlic heavy. Nice atmosphere and beautiful dining room. The oysters were first class.

Great food and nice atmosphere but overly expensive

By Dr. Andreas K |

We had a business dinner here and enjoyed seafood and steak. All the food was tasty and nicely and friendly served. Oysters were fresh but very small. Uni was very good and tasty, but again a very small portion for the price. Steak was absolutely as expected and a nice big portion. The shrimp main course were 6 shrimps, the same as for the much cheaper starter, which was not enough. The sides were good and the wine was excellent. So in summary a good experience at a steep price.

Best restaurant yet - especially as it was compliments of Google Maps

By Kate S |

Sumptuous food, excellent staff, amazingly they put up with us. We were noisy, happy and not even drunk! Really delicious food, thank you 😊

Food was marginal

By Soccerdad2 |

First, the waiter (who was nice) never asked if we wanted drinks. Not a huge deal but at a nice restaurant this is the 1st thing the waiter should offer. The calamari was overly breaded and not that good. The broccolini has way too much garlic making it uneatable. My teriyaki salmon was good but I did not appreciate everything being ala carte. I was expecting a better experience for the money.

Solid seafood meal, good service, big city prices

By gosaka |

My colleagues and I had a good meal at the Chicago Oyster House. We chose the restaurant as it was easy walking distance from our AirBnB near the McCormick Center. I’m always a bit suspicious of restaurants that add sushi to an already complicated menu - so we didn’t order any ;-). It seems this place prides itself on access to fresh high quality fish. All of us tried the grilled options and were pleased with the outcome. Our server was friendly, informative and efficient. Some will find the prices high for what you get.

Save time and money - go elsewhere

By Buster J |

If the windows are filthy, do not go inside. That’s an old family rule and I wish we had noticed. Actually, inside the restaurant was clean, and almost devoid of patrons. That was probably the combination of high pricing and small portions. It was $400 for two couples to have dinner and a drink, and that included a mandatory and undisclosed 20% service charge. Of this 12% goes to server and 8% to the restaurant, according to our server. Food was very good, but portions were so small we left looking for somewhere to eat. Our ride share driver told us afterwards it was just a neighborhood eatery and he didn’t understand how it was still in business. Neither do we , but at $100 per seat, it doesn’t take many seats. Appetizers arrives in shifts. Two appeared five minutes after the other two. While one person was finishing their entree, we were all asked if we would like dessert. I know they didn’t need the table but maybe they were closing early due to lack of other customers. Overall, the unannounced surcharge was the real icing on the cake.

Unlikely that it will be our last visit.

By FhayzeB |

First time dining at the Chicago Oyster House in years, but unlikely that it will be our last visit. Delicious Cocktails—a traditional Espresso Martini and truly unique Tiramisu Martini. Highly recommended. A good but not great slightly limited wine list was the only disappointment. The food was generally outstanding. If you want a really different soup experience I urge you to try the Gumbalaya Soup: slow-cooked brown roux sprinkled with thyme, tomato, onion, garlic, celery, green bell pepper, paprika, okra, chicken, andouille sausage, rice, mussels and shrimp. The grilled oyster offerings were plentiful and the raw oyster options sufficiently varied. To experience the oyster options I urge you to order the Grilled Oysters Combo comprised of 2 of each C.O.H — garlic, cilantro and cheese; ICHI — jalapeño, scallions, ginger and zesty soy; FIRECRACKER — spices, herbs and lime juice; and the traditional Oysters Rockefeller offering — spinach and cheeses. We didn’t think there was room left for entrees so we had two remarkably fresh seafood appetizers: Crab Cakes consisting of lump crab meat seasoned and baked not pan fried (refreshing); and, the Lobster Roll — succulent tail meat served chilled New England style with mayo and celery salt in toasted bun with deliciously seasoned fried pickles. Tiramisu and coffee for dessert completed a wonderful meal.

This restaurant was on the list of suggested establishments from the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. I wanted a light meal, so went for the oysters on the half shell. They offer both raw and grilled and from many locations! While waiting for my meal, I googled the restaurant, finding a groupon for a lobster dinner for 50% off. I asked my waitress if I bought it immediately if I could return in 2 nights, as I was staying in town for 3 nights at a conference. She said "absolutely!" and made a reservation for me to return 2 day later. Upon my return, I was greeted & remembered from my previous visit. I enjoyed their Happy Hour special of oysters on the half shell & my lobster was brought quickly! It was delicious! My only recommendation would be to have a side salad included in the lobster dinner. Overall, great experience, both with wait staff and food!

The place to go for oysters

Really enjoyed the fresh catch. Side dishes were exceptional. Friendly staff and very attentive service. Within walking distance of Hyatt Regency McCormick Place.

Blue Point, Plymouth Champagne and...

By DrLife |

Blue Point, Plymouth Champagne, fanny bay and kumamoto oyesters were the best of the buch in my humble opinion... the clam chowder is delicious! Go, you will like this place alot.

birthday dinner

By Debra J B |

This was the best birthday dinner I've had in a long time. Oysters were the best. Service was the best. Atmosphere was the best. We had blue point oysters-oysters rocafeller-clam chowder and 2 entrees. Food was excellent.I had not eaten oysters in 15 years(I got sick) These were so good we ordered more. Our server Becky was the best. Love this place!!

Seafood is excellent!

By mwesterfield |

This restaurant has seafood and sushi, as one would expect from the name. However, one in our group had the Angus Beef and it was perfectly cooked. To top off the evening, try the Sochi Ice Cream!!

Food was ok

By Yaser A |

I went there with my friend. We had grilled oyster that was okay. I had there sushi Deluxet. I'm not really sure if it was a fresh meat. I wouldn't go back there.

What a rip off! Terrible food - the $15 fries were frozen - manager was very argumentative. Terrible experience

By JillMJackson |

Disgusting food - manager argumentative/ after bad food we see a sign that says - even if the food is bad you pay 50%! Save your money

Chicago visit for

By Austin G |

The Chicago Oyster House was a perfect night out. Great oysters and cocktails. Stayed in the bar area all night, got great service.

Good Eats

By Dan H |

As an Oyster house in Chicago I say it was pretty good. There was a good selection to choose from and good variety of flavors. I personally had the sushi platter and it was very good. Will return

Nice place to walk from Marriott Marquis

By Kevin W |

Walked over one night from our nearby hotel to try this out. One of the few other restaurants in this area of the Hyatt/Marriiott/McCormick Place. It is s small place with a small bar area and dining room. We tried several of the baked oyster options and they were all very good. One of our guys had the raw ones too and he like them a lot. The main courses were good as well and portion size was large. This is a cozy, neighborhood type place that has great but not superb food in a intimate environment. I would gladly go back.

Good food!

By ManojAIIMS |

I visited this place in Dec 2012 on my trip to Chicago for the RSNA conference. Walk able distance from the Mc Cormick Place, one can just stroll along the Lake Michigan and land here just to get amazing food. Excellent service.

Excellent Seafood Boil Close to McCormick Place.

By AGuyFromHawaii |

If you're staying near McCormick Place and have a hankering for seafood, head on over to the Chicago Oyster House to fulfill your craving. Just a five minute walk from the Hyatt McCormick Place, the Chicago Oyster House seems a newish eatery on Indiana Avenue. They have a sushi bar if you want to eat sushi, but I cannot comment on how good the sushi was. I do know that a friend of mine did order the sushi and was satisfied with the quality. I ordered the seafood boil, which came with a good helping of snow crab legs, clams, mussels and jumbo prawns boiled in beer and blend of old bay spices. I was very happy with my selection and the broth made me want to drink it all up from the bowl after I was done. The restaurant is not a very big place, it can probably accommodate about 30 people in the dining room, six at the sushi bar, and about ten at the bar, so be aware of this fact if you plan on going during peak meal times.

Worst ever dining experience!

By granuaileChicago |

From the second we sat down the waiter was badgering us to order our dinners We just wanted to relax with a cocktail for a minute but waiter was relentless about ordering Our appetizers arrived with our hot food and the waiter was pushing us out Food was mediochre at best and very pricey Service was just awful Waited to speak to a manager for 10 minutes No-one showed up NEVER patronize this horrible place!!!

Seafood Delights

By Lynn F |

This place has some of the best seafood and the prices were reasonable. The grilled calamari was delicious! The atmosphere was really nice. If you're in Chicago, you must visit here.

Cool Spot in the South Loop

By OBXTKN2 |

We wandered in after taking a walk to check it out and found the food to be great, atmosphere in the bar area to be inviting and the staff to be very friendly. Its great to have a solid seafood option in the neighborhood. We will definitely be back.

WOW!

By Jordan Patrick P |

My daughter and I started with oyster shots. They were the finest start to a magnificent meal. My son ordered the Tuna Sashimi -- TWICE! We tried surf & turf sushi. It will blow your mind. Great service and fine oysters.

Chicago Treasure

By Travelcritic78 |

If you have a hard time deciding between the Oysters and the Sushi, have both! Life is short. Both to die for. The Ahi Tuni and the fish of the day, Mahi-Mahi were both delicious, and the service faultless.

Solid seafood options; all fresh.

By TBSoCal71 |

We had a private party, the drinks were free flowing and the food was good. We really didn't have any other seafood outside of oysters. The oysters were, however, fresh, briny, and tasty.

Great food but heavy on soy sauce

By E H |

This restaurant is into Japanese style food prep. I have a soy allergy and found that nearly everything, including grilled veggies has soy sauce as an ingredient or addition. The staff were very accommodating but if I had known that there was a strong Japanese influence (translate lots of soy), I would not have gone there because I don't like to make a fuss or create a hardship on the chef. But it was good food, had the fried oysters, plain grilled asparagus and the chocolate cake. Friendly staff and very clean establishment.

IN CHICAGO NOT CHICAGO RIDGE

By FhayzeB |

This is another in a long line of new trendy restaurants in Chicago’s South Loop. It was Okay, but at close to $300 for a dinner for two, I think there are much better dining options in this great culinary city. Dinner reservation for 7:45PM, but not seated until 8:30PM. For a restaurant with “oysters” in its name, I was exceedingly disappointed that there was no “Rockefeller” preparation on the menu. The options were a failed attempts at a similar preparation: 1) C.O.H GRILLED OYSTER fresh Blue Point Oysters, half shelled, grilled & topped with garlic, cilantro and parmesan cheese; and 2) ICHI GRILLED OYSTER fresh Blue Point Oysters, half shelled, grilled with ponzu sauce and topped with diced jalapeno, scallions and ginger. Moreover, the Oyster menu provided in the restaurant had fewer than half the offerings than were listed on the web site, another shortcoming. Although the server was polite, she was not particularly helpful in discussing the menu as it related to Oyster options. Finally, with regard to the “oyster” issue, the Oyster Shooter Cocktail at Shaw’s Crab House is MUCH better, though the wine list here was acceptably expansive, and the Chocolate Martini very well done by the courteous bartender. Not shown on the on-line menu, but available in-house was a wonderful appetizer from the sushi bar called “Lobster Supreme” though slightly overpriced at $18.00. The fresh ginger and wasabi were real high points with this dish, and no doubt were indeed truly “fresh.” Skipping ahead to the side dishes, be prepared to season the limp grilled asparagus and bland sautéed mushrooms. As for the entrees, stay away from the Gold King Crab Legs and pay the extra $5 for the more traditional Red King Crab Legs. The Gold were too thin, and although we ordered ours steamed as opposed to grilled, they were dried out, which was very frustrating. Using lemon and butter to moisten king crab should not be essential to a pleasant dining experience. Get my drift? The Surf & Turf was another disappointing dish; the steak was overcooked despite twice stating “medium rare” for the meat preparation, and the lobster meat was just too difficult to get to because the chef did not prepare the whole lobster to be eaten as one would expect in a fine dining establishment. I had to use my hands far too much to enjoy the dish. Too boot, EVERYTHING WAS COLD! The dessert options were limited, and frankly not worth trying. The chocolate cake tasted like it came off a Dominick’s bakery shelf—and they’ve been closed for weeks now! Again, get my drift? Finally, the Jamaican Blue Coffee was again just Okay, but no refills FYI. All in all this was an average establishment with five star prices. It is noteworthy that about half the tables appeared to utilize Groupon coupons so perhaps it would have been more palatable had I done likewise—but I doubt it. On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate the Chicago Oyster House a 6.5.

Slow, not very tasty

By Randy L |

A group of us visited this restaurant on a weekday evening. When we were there it was not very busy. The restaurant is a little upscale and has seafood entrees in the high teens to upper $20 range. It also offers sushi. It is very convenient to reach on foot from McCormick center. I had the crab cake appetizer as an entree and had the mushroom side dish. The mushrooms were good. I would recommend them. The crab cakes don't receive the same endorsement. They weren't remarkable in any way. My friends were also unimpressed with their food. The biggest problem was service. I believe it was the kitchen, not the waiters. Our food came out piecemeal over a 10 or 15 minute period. Those who received their food first were sitting there awkwardly waiting for others to get their food while their food cooled.

Birthday Dinner

By JessH387 |

This place is a little off the beaten path but it's worth it! We were staying at the Silversmith and wanted a place that had seafood but wasn't the downtown, over-priced run-of-the-mill so we found this place on Yelp. The lobster was huge! I would definitely reccomend it as a low-key option for a date night or special occasion. We started off with the snow crab legs, I got the lobster, he got the surf n turf -- we both ordered asparagus but could have shared, the portions are big. The steak melted in my mouth when I tried it! Service was good too!

Good service, tasty food and nice modern ambiance

By OlgaGCritic411 |

We've arrived late to our reservation but the staff made sure we have time to order before kitchen closed. We loved the scallops, seaweed salad, spice edamame, hot sake, spicy tuna tolls and their green tea. Sorry we did not order oysters. The place was clean, nice, quiet. Perfect for our family. 4 stars and not 5 because we thought the food was good but not ' to die for'.

A pleasant surprise

By Joaquindapark |

With everything else being overpriced in and around the McCormick Place, what a surprise to get this quality of food at adequate prices. My wife and I shared 5 appetizers and 2 entrees and each were excellent.

Great oyster experience

By Patty R |

Cozy ambiance. Great sushi and fish, but definitely go if you want to try a variety of oysters. I loved that the waitress gave us suggestions & gave a little background education on the different types of oysters. We tried several for appetizers.

Worst meal we had

By Jenny S |

Crab legs were cold, friends calamari inedible, very noisy, more attentive to large parties around us

Great place

By Omar G |

We arrived a little later than our reservation because you know Chicago traffic. They were cool about it though. The food was amazing I recommend the Cajun boil! It made me feel like I was back in New Orleans. Our server was super friendly and very helpful in cocktail drinks for my girlfriend. The food was incredible! The atmosphere was great. I really recommend this place!

Interesting Menu

By ilove2travel43 |

In had oysters and they were excellent, but was not too please with the surf and turf sushi, sounded good, but I'll go for the real stuff next time I go, will definitely be returning.

A Fun Friday Night

By Dennis K |

I ended up at the Chicago Oyster House on a Friday night after a day at a convention. We sat in the bar, which I really enjoyed. There were a few televisions showing local sports, but the environment was not that of a bar and grill. I had dinner and drinks with some friends and we hung out there for a couple of hours. The drink menu has something for everyone from beer, wine, and hard spirits. The menu has a nice variety of seafood that includes sushi, oysters, and other things you would expect a nicer seafood restaurant. It isn't cheap to eat here, but the food is worth it. I had a soft shell crab, some of my friends oysters, and a sushi roll. I was full and content. The service was great. The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive. They wouldn't let us dream of doing anything for ourselves, and they made us feel welcome. It is a fairly convenient walk from the McCormick Convention Center. That said, if the weather is cool, you might consider an Uber or cab ride there.

Very good seafood and service

By LThomas1301 |

Dined on a Friday night. Place was quiet with few patrons. Probably due to location. Not much else nearby. Dined here due to proximity to hotel where we were staying. Ambiance is nice; small venue and intimate. Front area has large tv and bar. Service is very good and so was food. Had fried oysters and ceviche for starters. Both fresh and very good, particularly ceviche. Sea bass and crab legs were very tasty. Cocktails also good. Desserts were also good; key lime pie small and tasty. Chocolate cake very rich. They missed that we were celebrating a birthday and didn’t ask. Noted in reservation. Overall an enjoyable meal and experience.

Casual business dining

Quiet neighborhood. Was astonishingly surprised at the great flavor of appetizers as well as entrees. Had Cajun Seafood Boil. Oysters, mussels, lobster claw and crab legs. Cajun spice was delicious. Service was first class. Would return when in the area.

Small, Quiet and Intimate

Excellent restaurant with great food! They specialize in Sushi but have a very well rounded Menus allowing for a variety of sea foods , steaks or chicken dishes! We wanted a quiet table for 5 so we could catch up with friends! It was perfect! Great atmosphere, great food, great wines! Highly recommended it! Within an easy walk of the convention center!

Oyster issue | Sick all Night

By Henry-Francois G |

We were a group of 4 people and had a variety of oysters (25 total decided by 4) as well as sushi rolls. One of us was sick all night due to a (or a few) bad oyster(s). The waitress also lacked obvious edicate as she would barge into our conversations without any finess to ask us random questions. The bill suggests you pay 25% tip... Decent but over rated and make sure to first smell every oyster you eat if you go!

LOVED the oysters and everything I had

By Kathy M |

I had the best oysters that I have had in a long time! They were on special for $2/each the night we were there and I have a dozen oysters that were from the greatest oyster spots in the US (also one from Canada). We also had fried oysters that were perfect. The person I was with had crab legs and scallops and they were excellent as well. Great job.

Just okay for style

By PAAbby |

We have been to a lot of nice restaurants in the past and here celebrating a 50th bday. Our drinks and steak and crabcakes were fabulous, but everything else was just OK or didn’t hit the mark. The waitress accidentally ordered a duplicate of what I did instead of a salmon dish so that came when everyone else is done and they did not offer any kind of compensation or let him eat part of the meal they accidentally prepared. The sushi was OK, shrimp way overcooked and hard to even get out of the shell and that was the special with the fillet. Sea bass tasty!! Restaurant a tad small so noisey but staff very attentive. For the price, we just expected more to hit the mark or bread with a meal, or something done to accommodate their mistake on the salmon.

Restaurant

Absolutely wonderful. Staff super nice and attentive. Food was excellent too. They take reservations also.

Nice dining for convention attendees

By Michelle C |

If you want to get away from the McCormick Center without having to go downtown, this restaurant is a short walk. You won't find many other restaurant options, although it appears the area is developing. We ordered several appetizers as our meal. The grilled oysters (my favorites were the COH Parmesan), soft shell crab, mussels and Clam chowder were all really good. The asparagus beef rolls were very unremarkable. Don't get those. A tip for the mussels: the serving dish is not very conducive to access the broth which is at the very bottom. With a little maneuvering, you can soak the mussels in the broth which has a sake base, making it a little different than typical oysters. The service was quick and attentive. The restaurant does take reservations but we walked in and were seated. After 7pm, it filled pretty quickly. We would return.

Worth every penny!

Very welcoming! Staff accommodated my family of six! Food was delicious! Be prepared to spend but it was worth it! Also... the kids meals have very large portions.

Small place, good food a little pricey

By Explore28872698147 |

very good food, had salmon and was very well prepared. Took some time but was worth the waiting time. one college had Lamb and was very good too. a little bit pricey but great experience. the have a sushi bar that looks great. Although we did not order sushi.

Food better than the atmosphere.

By TideX18 |

Don't get me wrong there was nothing terribly wrong with the atmosphere, but not what you'd expect in Chicago. It's a neighborhood restaurant. However, the food was outstanding. The oysters are fresh and shucked well. Lobster was very good. My friend got the lamb chops and he said they were delicious.

Great service but average seafood

By SusieDee1 |

Nice venue, great attentive service, but my magi magi was over cooked and dry. Miso soup looked promising, with nice seafood in it, but was not very tasty. Calamari was not crispy. Everything is ala carte. Not a 4/5.

Lovely place for lunch and dinner

By Peru201193 |

Came here for a quick lunch, love it so much, we decided to come back for dinner - Tasty food - Super friendly service - Reasonable price Lover everything from fresh oyster, fish taco, steak, fresh lobster claw, good wine list too! Highly recommend if you are in the area

What a Gem

By Acadia |

We were going to a little experimental theater just a couple blocks away and found this gem. Quiet, white tablecloths, small but interesting menu. Every item we had was delicious, and very reasonable for the city. Save room for dessert!

Interesting

By L D |

This place changed it's name in the last year but the menu and everything has stayed the same as it was when the place was named Triad Sushi. Not sure how they stay in business because there is never more than 1-3 tables of people. The food is decent and the staff is pleasant. Just don't know how they do it.

Cold, Soulless and Expensive

By RML1 |

The atmosphere is black and white, bright light, sterile and cold. We went there because of a Groupon deal for lobster. Smallest lobsters I've ever seen, They could've been crayfish. The rest of the menu was very expensive for unexceptional food. The sashimi was good, if pricey. The wine list is weak and, you guessed it, expensive. The only reason I don't give the place a Terrible rating is the server was clearly trying to do her best. Needless to say, we will not be back.

Hidden Gem!

By misscassieanne1686 |

A group of girlfriends and I came in before we went and saw Beyonce at Soldier Field. We were looking for a good restaurant that wasn't too far away from the stadium. We are BEYOND happy we chose Chicago Oyster House. We love Oysters, so it was a fairly easy choice, and the reviews thus far were fantastic. We got there before they opened at 5pm on a Friday, and they welcomed us into the bar, as our table was not ready yet. They had a great wine list, as well as fab drink menu. Becky was our server in the bar, and we also had her in the dining room. I have to say, she is by far one of the best servers I have seen in a LONG time. She knows her stuff, beyond super sweet, and and all around fabulous waitress!! We were pleasantly surprised we found out that their happy hour also ran on Fridays. Which meant, great prices on amazing oysters. Service the whole evening was superb. She allowed us to order, whenever we were feeling like we wanted more. We got lots of oysters, a great selection of both coasts, as well as sushi and a few other items. We started with the ceviche and it was incredible, so clean but a great flavor profile. So happy we stumbled upon this place!

Lovely place, great service and great food.

By myopinioncounts23 |

We came here for dinner and had a lot of oysters and they were great. The waitress was very attentive and the restaurant looks nice. I also tried tuna and outstanding. Highly recommend this place if your are looking for an oyster place.

A great find in the south loop

By dcbos |

We came because of the oysters. The best oysters in Chicago. Great menu, good food, good service. Loved it.

Solid food

By Rory S |

Close to Hyatt and convention center. Small restaurant with good service and good food. Had seafood and sushi. We didn’t have any oysters or steAk. Portions are standard size (which may seem a little small these days) but food is good and reasonably priced.

Fresh Seafood

By 245robertk |

Went to the oyster bar on the South Side of Chicago. Food and service was great. I love a place where you can get wonderful fresh oysters in any shape or variety that you may like.

Great spot - not too crowded

By MichelleJoe2013 |

My husband and I stumbled on this spot while he was at a conference. Loved all suggestions by bartender (we ate at the bar) and really enjoyed the raw oysters. Have never had grilled oysters - worth trying for sure. The service was very good - Jessica the bartender was very nice and knowledgeable about the area. Overall great experience.

Living Social rip off

By Globe_Trotter_Go |

The stars are for the wonderful service of the staff and the variety of oysters they offer. Had such high hopes for this place. The Living Social voucher I purchased was a waste of money. Their happy hour specials were a much better deal. I tried all 10 oyster varieties that they offer. There were three I didn't care for: The Conway Cup was too briny, Capital City had an oily aftertaste, and Hama Hama was too chewy (for the novice - you're not supposed to chew them, you slurp). For my main entrée I had the Alaskan Red King Crab legs and my dinner companion had the Tuna Supreme. Neither one was all that fresh nor did it hit the mark. I have to say I appreciated the sugar scrub in the women's washroom, pulls double duty - it helps to combat winter dryness and masks the crab legs smell. Sadly, this may be the one and only time we come here. My companion feels this place has too many strikes against it: lack of parking, the Living Social voucher blunder, and the stale sushi and crab legs.

Good Food, Interesting Ambiance

By Michelle R |

Promoted as high end, but not so much when you get there. The place was busy when we went (Wednesday evening) so maybe they were understaffed, but we were told we would only get food service if we sat at the bar. The lounge tables directly behind us were for drinks only. Dining room was booked and they weren't taking in any more walk-ins. Ordering at the bar was fine, as I went with a friend after work for a drink and few apps. The rolls and sashimi were delicious. The drinks were strong. Service was a little slow. I would go back, but I'm not sure I would want to dine in the main dining room.

Food was good but the service was amazaing!

By BPappenfus |

We were looking for a place fairly close to our hotel and something interesting while we were in Chicago. We found this place and decided to try it. The food was okay nothing was bad (the shrimp in the mix grill was a tad bit fishy) it just was not memorable. What was great was Carmen – our server. We were talking about getting from one location to another and she provided us with instructions on how to use the bus to get from one spot to another…she wrote them down. She made the evening for us and yes, we did follow her instructions the next day and needless to say we had a great time at the Museum of Science and Technology because of her. Thanks, Carmen!

Beautiful restaurant, food was ok.

By Fmben |

I had dinner with some colleagues here recently while in Chicago. The food was ok and IMO overpriced. I’d give it a try once more to see if my first impression was correct.

Great dinner for a couple

By John C |

Loved the location and the atmosphere was terrific..very nice . Started with selection of oysters and they were fresh tasting and delicious. Good bottle of wine (Sauvignon Blanc) for our meal. Went with the Chilean Sea Bass grilled and my date had the Tuna. Both were excellently prepared and so delicious. Loved this restaurant and would love to live in this neighborhood so I could visit it often. Great job to all.

Mandatory 20% Service Charge

By Jenccurn |

Calamari and soft shell crab appetizers were served warm - not hot. Service was mediocre and to demand a 20% service regardless of party size infers that service should be at the least very good.

Oyster are on Point

We went here for dinner one night and all the food was very good. Good selection of seafood and Oysters. I would go back here if I get back in town.

Restaurant Week Selection

By onlyv58 |

Every year i pick a restaurant for restaurant week. Chicago Oyster House was this year's selection. The ambience of the restaurant was great. Highly recommend for a date night. The school was very good. I had the lamb chops that were exceptional. The fried oysters (not apart of the restaurant week menu) and clam chowder were also outstanding. The wait staff was extremely nice. The only downfall was that we had to wait a long time for food courses.

Skip this place altogether

By MrsRule |

My husband and I purchased a Groupon for two lobster dinners entrees. We order the fried crab appetizer and it was overdone and burnt tasting in our mouths. The lobsters were both overdone and were tasteless and rubbery. I will never return to this place.

Wonderful

By jzrana |

If there weren't so many people in the restaurant, I would've licked the plate clean. Great service, blues on the sound system, $8 app and $26 entree. Very easy walk from McCormick convention center.

Don’t let the name fool you...

By JMC |

This restaurant has a great menu and it’s not just oysters. The have great fish entrees, steak, sushi, etc. I️ got fried calamari and sesame crusted ahi tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes. Everything was fresh and tasty. The service was fast and friendly. I️ highly recommend this place if you are in the area.

Decent if not busy

By MD_T0urist |

I came to this place for two nights in a row so this is a fair sampling. First night I came as part of a large group after the dinner rush. The service was fine and the food was average to above average. Tonight I went on my own during dinner which is probably more what people care about. I ordered a spicy appetizer and a more bland sushi (surf and turf) to counter that afterwards. The sushi came first (lobster and filet both cold) and the appetizer never came even after I paused multiple times to wait for it. When I finally asked the waiter told me the chef should be making it. The chef proceeded to make other sushis and I was about to say don’t worry about it when it came. Of course, my mouth was burning and I had no bland sushi to calm down my palate. I asked for the check and the waiter didn’t even offer to take the appetizer off or something else to make up for the wrong serving order. Overall, the restaurant didn’t have that many customers but just the dinner rush was too much for the wait staff. Given the fact that when I walked back to the hotel there were people just sitting in their cars with music blasting on Indiana, I won’t be coming back here again.

Delicious!!

By Novers |

Really great food and service! The restaurant is small so make a reservation before you go. I had the scallops which were really tasty. The others in my party had the sushi which they really enjoyed. Would recommend to anyone who wants good seafood

Amazing!
