This cozy restaurant has a friendly family atmosphere with a menu carrying the South Indian standards like dosa and vada, plus a few other Indian dishes. I had the Mysore Masala Dosa and it was fine, though a bit on the soggy side. Certainly worth a visit, but not anything to write home about - and I've eaten in a lot of Indian restaurants around the world and across India.

I am baffled as to how places like these get high ratings & awards. This place has nothing going for it. Cheap and tacky decor- Valentine crafts adorning the place, Barely any room to move around tables. The icing is of course the food. We have Dosa- thick, limp and cold. The filling inside of potatoes was stinking which means it spoilt food. Sambhar- looked like sewage water and an indescribable taste. Parathas- served from a frozen ready packet ! We wasted all our food because it was uneatable or even boxed. Do not go by the pictures posted here because it only looks fine. This place is working because of the students-sad !! Drive over to the east side and get a fix of proper South Indian fare with ample of choices.

This is my favorite Seattle Indian restaurant. They used to be on the North Ave as Chili's Deli and Mart but their building was being gentrified. They are now in a very convenient spot near the post office. Their new space is hopping. They used to have only South Indian cuisine but now they have a lunch buffet with both South Indian and Northern Indian food which is a great bargain and so delicious. Watch out though, it can be spicy for some people. Anila is her usual awesome self, there all the time and welcoming to all.

We enjoyed the vegetarian thAlis for dinner! All items were very true to South Indian style cooking and tasted like home-made.

We 11 people went there craving for Indian. Except for Adai dosa we liked everything we ordered. Especially palav and cettinad chicken was amazing. Quantity is good enough for one or 2 people. Mutton dosa was too good. Little slow in serving and the restaurant is crowded.

We were so happy to get back to Chili's last night after nearly two years. Excellent dosas and thalis, as usual. Service was friendly and competent, just as we remember. Like other restaurants, they are short of staff, so be patient if it's busy. It's worth it!

I won't say I know enough about Indian food to judge the authenticty of this restaurant against other South Indian places. But I can say that my wife and I both liked the food, and there was plenty of it. Reasonable prices. Good service. A short walk from the Deca hotel.

The South Indian cuisine was different from other Indian cuisine I have had -- it was lighter, and the taste of the vegetables came through the spices. Sometimes I find that the flavor of the vegetables can become lost in the spices, but not here. Highly recommended for lunch.

the best meal ever, perfect , so tasting and the price is great. clean and it full all the time. recommended. little restaurant in the area of the university .

Chilis was fine in its former location but now it is a for real restaurant, even better. The lunch buffet is way more fresh and flavorful than the nearby competition and a much butter value for what is offered. But the best menu items are offered outside of buffet time: Dosa! After missing authentic dosa while living in India, this make my tummy smile.

We stopped in for lunch, it was very neat and nicely decorated. We were immediately seated. When she delivered our water, she let us know that it was buffet. There was salad, rice, and about 10 different dishes that we could serve ourselves. Since it was buffet, you decided your serving size and could try an assortment of entrees, which I always enjoy! I'd definitely return if I lived in Seattle!

Do not go to this place for lunch buffet for dosa, idli as it does not offer any South Indian Dishes in buffet. Parking is very difficult.

Chili's really shines due to its very good food. The ambiance is simple, the service is 'unique' but the food is really good. Worth a visit.

I went here for the first time today. I arrived a little bit before the lunch rush so it wasn't very busy yet. Because I was alone they sat me at a table mostly covered by glasses with napkins and forks in them. Not a table people should be sitting at because it's used for the staff, but I was alone and didn't want to take up a 4 top. They never brought me naan despite being the table closet to the kitchen and arriving before the rush. At one point the server came and sat her water pitchers on my table. At that point I felt less than a costumer. So I got up, paid, and left. If you're going to sit people at the table not for customers you could at least give them great customer service. I was never checked on and the server bumped into me without a word. It's a disappointment that Shalimar closed next door. I will never be returning to this restaurant.

Mixed reviews on this restaurant. We visited on a Saturday around 4pm. There were around 4 tables occupied at the time. The good - ordered a non-veg. thali, most of the food seemed fresh, the chicken curry, sambar and lady fingers curry was good, enjoyed the complimentary tea too. Staff were friendly and efficient. Food was served in good time. The bad - my poppadom was stale. The rice was cold and stuck together like old, reheated rice. My roti was thrown on top of the curries and was half soggy. Didn't care too much for the beetroot and a wet spinach type curry in the thali. And the ugly - the decor is old fashioned and outdated, with random balloons and glittery weird decor on the tables. I think prices in this restaurant are not necessarily value for money, despite being in the university district.

This is a great choice for Indian food in the U-district. I've been a coupl times both have been very good. The prices are very reasonable. The service is simple

The lunch buffet is crowded with good variety of food at a good price. The whole spices add a great flavor but the seed pods seem inedible. Naan is good but crowded room at lunch can make it difficult for the server to reach your table.

I really enjoyed the wonderful Dosa offered here. It was characters, with the nice balanced of spices and the very tasty crepes. The chai was OK, but it was FREE, and I can't complain at all. All in all, it's a wonderful experience and definitely a great place on the Ave.

In terms of texture, aroma and flavor the food in Chili’s is as close as it gets to what one can have in a restaurant in south India. Goat curry was a delight. Kudos to chef.

The food is very good as is the service. When we were there they had no beer or wine but the food was worth dining with tea or water.

What an excellent place with excellent food… wow! Located conveniently on University Ave near UDub dorms, this place is a hidden jewel and they serve food with dazzling aroma and taste. We loved everything we ordered and the quantity was plentiful to satisfy our hunger and enough to take home for more…. Highly recommend it….go try it and u won’t be disappointed

The dosa was good but small. Vada was good too. The samosa was terrible. And I saw them microwave it before serving. Dessert was also terrible. But the biriyani was very good and the parotta was excellent. The owner/ hosted needs to learn to be more polite.

I commend the management and reception staff for their honesty and integrity. The food was true South Indian. No hesitation in recommending this place.

I love this food, I come cross-town for it, passing many great Indian restaurants on the way. The ambiance is, well it's on the Ave - no-frills. The service is middle to excellent in my expereince, depending on which time I was there. Price is good.

This is a small simple restaurant looked in the middle of the U-District. Don't let this keep you from going. The service is simple. But the food is really good. We started with the veg samosa's, which were great. They are very well know for the fantastic Dosa's but we had the Veg Thali. Lots and lots of food. We had plenty to take home. Very affordable as well.

Awesome South Indian food! Very friendly staff. We had great experience here. Would highly recommend!

Located in the university district, we stumble onto this eatery by chance. I'm from Singapore and is so keen to give this place a try. The couple who operates this joint is so friendly. Food is great and authentic. The masala dosa is light and crisp. Thali, chicken Curry and Lamb curry is equally delicious. Will definitely be eating there on our next trip .

We locals are proud to have Chili's, a 5 star rated restaurant, so easily accessible. Specific dishes here like vindaloo outclass what other restaurants offer. Anila, the owner, makes guests feel like family to the extent that the south wall is covered with cards and letters of appreciation. 2 doors down is Chilis' deli which serves just the amount you want of any of several dishes that interest you, all at student- and senior-friendly prices. Anila's goal in this business was to bring the pleasure of her cooking to the community, which she has accomplished. Bravo!

If you're in the U-District and looking for some good Indian food look than further than Chili's. It's a small space and often gets busy. The service is simple but the food is very good and a great value.

Chili's South Indian restaurant is a great spot in the U District if you're looking for some very good Indian food. If I lived closer I would go more often. I love the vegi Thali. They are now on summer vacation but back soon.

On last Sunday, we decided to go to the university fair. As we were passing by all the stalls, we came across this restaurant. I like South Indian food and am Jain in food habit. I could find some dishes to suit my taste, which is not very common here. I ordered for puttu with coconut milk and sugar. The other combination available was puttu with chole instead of the traditional Kerala dish - kadalekkari. Puttu was made of red rice and was very good. The others ordered kara puttu; I was wondering what that was. It turned out to be Kuttidha avalakki - a Karnataka dish made of powdered pounded rice; this was also served with chole. There were the other regular South Indian items like idiaappam, idli, vada, dosa, etc.

I am from South India and found this restaurant in its previous location by accident. Family owned business - they were originally doing only South Indian Cuisine but have expanded also to traditional North Indian food (better business plan?). The South Indian food off the a la carte menu is excellent and very authentic and consistently good. They have some unique dishes from South India that are hard to get elsewhere (puttu) but are nicely done. My parents when they visit like to go here and always get the "home" food. As others have commented, they moved and started serving predominantly North Indian food at the buffet which is good but not great. Recommend that if you want authentic South Indian food west of I-5, you do a dinner visit. Well worth it.

Do not go here if you are different. My sister in law and her girlfriend was here today, and was just about pushed out of the restaurant. They took up their water glasses while they were still drinking. There's many great Indian places, go to one where they will treat everyone with respect.
Loved the place and food
The places offers complimentary masala Tea and the food is so delicious. The staff is very friendly and kind. I love this place. Me and my brother prefer going here each time we feel like eating outside.
