I did not have a good experience. The food is below average and the delivery service is expensive and not worth it. Also, the staff is rude over the phone

If you’ve read my previous reviews, my husband and I love to hunt for finding fantastic hole-in-the wall restaurants that don’t necessarily break the bank but offer delicious food that more than satisfies the taste buds. For the last five years, we’ve been frequenting a Chinese restaurant I was hesitant to review. I finally caved and brought myself to adding it to that list. I’ve kept it quiet for some time, because as reviews go, once word-of-mouth gets out, large numbers follow. What once was the few quiet places not many knew about, now becomes the place everyone is flocking to, and I wanted to keep this secret all to myself as long as I could. I decided that this is too much of a hidden jewel to keep quiet about, and small businesses such as these deserve recognition. Their restaurant is clean and unlike some restaurants we have been to, there isn’t much clinging and clanging going on, which is surprising considering the small space, but I feel that it adds to a peaceful and quiet ambience. I love their dark, rich color scheme, which really sends a flair of romance in the air if you’re trying to impress a date. Also, they do have a party room available if you need one, so if you're looking for a place to gather with some friends, family or co-workers, that's a plus. And finally, the food is spectacular! Every dish is prepared in such a way that you can’t help but pause before you take the first bite and feast your eyes on the wonderful arrangement. If you’re one of those people who loves to take a picture of every meal, so you can post on social media, trust me, these dishes are social media worthy. I’ve tried everything from their Kung Pao Chicken, Orange Chicken, Hunan Beef, Mongolian Beef, and Rice Rolls. Their sauces are never over salted and they are filled with rich, oriental flavor. Their eggrolls or Rangoon appetizers and their hot and sour soup are usually included with the lunch specials, which is an added plus. I have never left disappointed. Their food tastes fresh and well- seasoned with just the right spices, and they don't cut corners on their ingredients as some restaurants have a tendency to do by giving you heaving lumps of rice and very little protein. If you go during their lunch hours, they have very reasonable lunch specials. My husband and I have cut back on our soda and caffeine intake, so we usually just order water with a lemon slice, because it doesn’t have that nasty, city water after taste. I forgot to ask, but I’m sure it’s filtered. I spoke with one of the managers, and he and the Sushi chef have been in business ten years. I’m really surprised the place isn’t swimming with customers, but I think I attribute that to the fact that it’s nestled around several community neighborhoods that keep this unpretentious jewel hidden, but still, there’s a nice, steady stream of nearby clients living in the area who keep this place busy. The secret is out of the bag now, but shh... let's make it our little secret indulgence. If you’re looking for Chinese and Japanese cuisine with friendly service and a quiet environment, give these guys a chance. You'll enjoy the delicious food. *Disclaimer for Trip Advisor- I was too busy eating the food that I forgot to take pictures. I contacted the restaurant owner through email, and he granted me permission to use the ones below. Next visit I'll be taking pictures of my meals and replacing them with the ones uploaded below. I just wanted to give readers an idea of their various dish selection.

Chin's Garden is our family "go to" place. They have great lo mein noodles and the egg plant with garlic sauce is delicious. We also like the beef broccoli. I highly recommend it. From my experience, if you want authenitc Chinese food, go to a place where the owners and staff are Chinese.

NEW OWNERSHIP started September 2025 - the new menu is fantastic and now includes Vietnamese dishes including the best Pho in town. They serve delicious Thai curries as well as a host of savory Chinese dishes. This is a sister restaurant to Pho4Star. The food freshness is top-notch and the portion sizes are large. Prices are consistent with similar restaurants in North San Antonio. The atmosphere is quaint and the restaurant is well decorated - definitely date night approved. Like most places in San Antonio, customer service varies but seems to be consistently good after 4 or 5 visits.

Came for lunch and had the Mongolian Beef with Fried Rice. The entrée came with a choice of soup and an egg roll. The lunch portion was fulfilling and very delicious. Super fast and service was great. This is a great place to come on your lunch break.

We went to Chin's Garden after a meeting with some friends. The service was excellent and the food was terrific. We had crispy beef and sizzling wok bar. Both were great as was the hot and sour soup. The only negatives were the restaurant ran out of eggplant and two people in our party had ordered it. Also the restaurant air conditioning did not keep the place cool enough.

We eat at this restaurant all of the time. The food is always consistently good, service is solid and good atmosphere. They also deliver quickly and efficiently.

We order take out atleast 2-3 times a month. Food is super tasty, flavorful, great price. We do take out only. The food is more authentic than the chain restaurants out there. Definitely give them a try!

Great taste, great ingredients, clean place, definitely a place to return. We recommend widely. We are from Mexico.

I went in to try out the new dishes and see how the change in management was. I am very impressed with the care, taste and presentation given due to new ownership. Food was authentic, good and hot. Very clean and friendly atmosphere and a great place to grab some Pho or Chinese food. I love this hidden gem of a restaurant and look forward to visiting more often. I used to go often to a restaurant on Bitters and West but they changed management and you definitely can tell with the lack of flavor and freshness of food. Unfortunately they just lost another customer to Chin's Garden. I have finally found my new Pho location...Chin's Garden is my Pho place!!

This is my second review of this tiny spot at the intersection of Huebner and Bitters. My second review because this place is that good and totally authentic. Really good won ton soup and my orange chicken was the best I have had. Just the right touch of fire to go with the sweet. If you are in this part of SA, the food here is just terrific!

Really good value for the price. My favorite dish is the almond chicken. I haven't had it better anywhere else and I have tried. Order during lunch time for the best value. Includes soup with the meal at no extra cost. They deliver and you can also order to go.

I have not written a review for Chins until now. I have ordered take out from Chins for years and recently noticed that starting in 2015 when I would call in the Manager is very verbally abrassive and has raised his voice at me on multiple occassions. I even told his staff upon delivery and was told thats just how hw is... Last night I called and he raised his voice at me when our line disconnected in the middle of our call and I called Chins back. He was very rude to me on the phone both times and I said "hello I called back so lets stay calm" and then decided to take my business somewhere else and said "nevermind sir I don't need to complete my order." I have taken friends and family to this establishment and will NO LONGER eat here due to this poor customer service!!! I went to Godai instead which is always my fave but further away. Im willing to drive to be treated with RESPECT!!

These people are very good people. My wife and I eat here at least 2 times a week. Very good food and great lunch specials! If you like Chinese......you must try this place!

The restaurant server both sushi and Chinese food such as general Tao chicken, lemon chicken, pepper beef. Their sushi roll is nice with lots different flavor and choice. Today we choose San Antonio which is not spicy, tower roll which is special. Also a chicken with bamboo with white sauce and fried rice. It’s all fresh and nice. Good place.

I haven't eaten at very many Chinese food places because I don't really love Chinese food. I ventured in with a co-worker and ordered a vegetarian entree. They spiced it up for me, the sauce was NOT thick and sweet! The lady helping us was very nice and helped me customize my order. What I liked the best was that the food tasted FRESH and the place felt very clean.

We regularly have lunch at this restaurant, they are consistently good and a good value for lunch. Nice varied lunch menu comes with soup, choice or rice and an eggroll. We have never been disappointed. Love your General Tao's chicken because it's not so heavily breaded. The service is always prompt and friendly. The restaurant is not huge but well worth a visit. Thanks!

I had a solid four star experience here and for Chinese food in San Antonio, I'd say that was pretty freaking awesome. Friday night and we were seated right away in a clean booth with a clean table...nice start to a weekend, right? Right. We decided to start with the beef teriyaki appetizer which came with a mini hotpot to cook our beef on. It was so fun to barbeque our own beef and add that with the crunchy, fresh cabbage underneath the beef and it was delicious. Besides the egg rolls, I'd definitely choose this as an appetizer again. We also ordered two California rolls with extra cream cheese and they were phenomenal. The avocado and crab was crisp and tasty and we liked it so much that we ordered another one to eat during our main course. Our main course was an order of the General Tso's with fried rice and the broccoli beef with steamed rice. I love love loved the fried rice. It was wonderful. We also ordered the pepper steak which came with small chunks of steak with chopped up pieces of broccoli in a creamy pepper sauce. Devoured that in minutes. Highly recommend. They have pretty decent Asian beer at Chin's. I would definitely get the Asahi with your sushi. It is the perfect accompaniment to a California roll. We will definitely be back to Chin's for more sushi and beef teriyaki! Yum!

This is a regular place for our family to eat. They are real artists in creating sushi. They have several sushi choices you will find no where else. All the food items are tasty and made to you specific taste. This is a comfortable place to eat and visit with family and friends. They have both lunch specials as well as early dinner specials. You can order all the Chinese food items you are used to as well as other delicious menu items you might not have seen before. You will not be disappointed in the food, the service or atmosphere.

I always order take out from Chin's. They have the best eggplant in garlic sauce. The chicken chow mein is good. The shrimp with mixed vegetables is good. If you want authentic Chinese food, this is one of the best in San Antonio.
Chinese/Japanese Fare
Arrived at 4:40 pm. Sign said open from 11am to 2:30pm and 5pm to 9pm, but they let us in anyway. The service staff were excellent...very ready to serve...very humble and courteous. The food (I had the Happy Family meal), wife had sweet & sour chicken, Daughter and grandson both had General Tso meals. We all enjoyed a bowl of Won Ton soup...all total about $60.00 for four...so cost is very reasonable. We are here (grandparents) for a Christmas week visit from South Carolina.
