OK Bi Bim Bap

By RobertRAH-64 |

I enjoy Korean food, so I thought I'd try this place out. The place was fairly empty for a dinnertime meal. I was seated as soon as I got in the door and my order was taken pretty quick. A short while later my meal came to the table piping hot. the food was pretty good - I've had a lot better at other places. the service was not up to par. Most of the staff was back in the kitchen area joking around and having a great time laughing it up. My waiter never came back to my table to refill my water glass. I flagged down another waitress to refill my glass. I expected better service. I'll look for another Korean restaurant before returning here.

A great Korean Restaurant with lot's of choices

By wacotom |

This is the second time we have visited Chosun Galbi and like the first visit we left very pleased with our meal. This time we had a bahbimbap and a spicy beef soup. Both were great. My wife told the waiter I liked spicy foods so he recommended the soup for lunch (on a cold breezy day). The soup had very good flavor and just the right amount of spice to make it taste excellent, make your nose run a little - but not blow your head off! The first time we visited I had the dolsot bahbimbap and it was also excellent. My wife of Korean ancestry also really enjoyed this place. We were trying to decide between two Korean restaurants in north Austin and she said Chosun was her favorite after years of going to a different place. I would certainly recommend trying Chosun. Next time it is going to be the kimchee pork soup for lunch!

Yummo!

By AlwaysBeAMermaid |

We were the only all-Caucasian party in the restaurant, so we got a bit more supervision than the rest of the tables; however, we had a great time. The restaurant appears to be a former Outback, but the food makes you forget that. It was delicious, we had a fun time. Cooking your own food made it like an adventure. If you're a tourist from anywhere, stop here to experience sow thing other than BBQ, steaks and Mexican. You won't regret it!

Awesome experience !

Never tried Korean BBQ before, so we went all out and ordered a bunch of different foods. Waiter was super patient and helpful. So good ! I would definitely have Korean BBQ again because of this place !

Chosun BBQ was a great experience for Korean BBQ novices

By patlikestravel |

We were in Austin helping our son move into his house, and we were HUNGRY! We searched for something close and up this popped. My son had heard of it, but never been so off we were for an adventure. I've never had Korean BBQ so I did not know what to expect. Having someone cook in front of you is always fun, and we chose the meal that was for 3 people, which included a little of everything, short ribs, chicken, beef, shrimp...and a LOT of different sides. It was perfect and we left full, satisfied and happy! We would return in a minute, great service and always with a smile.

Fantastic

Really great food. Of course get some bbq. Unless they’re slammed service is great. Mul myondang (maybe spelled wrong) is wonderful. Be prepared to smell like food when you leave but it’s well worth it.

Good kbbq place

By OelmeB |

I've been at this place a long time ago with friends and came back for my birthday dinner. It's a good place for traditional kbbq. Make sure to come early on the weekend for dinner or make a reservation because they get pack around 6pm.

great place for Korean BBQ....

By GB_InTexas |

have taken family and friends there great food, lots of options, and fun. You have the option to grill the BBQ at your table, which is always fun, or have the kitchen grill it for you, or chose from the many pages of items on the menu, from soups (clay pots), bbq, noodles and such... we always get the Beef and Pork Bulgulgi ... each order serves 1.5 people... so if you are lite eater, then 1 order is good for two people... (just know that a minimum of two order is needed to use the grill on your table) Service, well, they are not the best, but they dont mind being asked or "pinged" via the door bell on the table... so if you are up for some fun, you have time, like or would like to know Korean food, check this place out...

Authentic Korean Experience

By Lisa De la Garza |

Driving around in Austin we bumped into this place because my husband likes Korean food. I was hesitant but am adventurous. I ordered a Seafood Bi Bim Bop and was quite surprised with its taste. Unique blend of veggies, rice and seafood made for a very filling dinner. My 6 year old tried chicken fried rice and I was happy to see plenty of peas, carrots and chicken chunks in it. I was impressed with the 6 side dishes they also bring out plus miso soups. My little one loved the wormy glass noodles. If you are around, try it.

Outstanding and worth a visit.

Visited this great restaurant for lunch but ordered from the dinner menu. Both of our entries were outstanding. I had a squid dish (#12) that was outstanding. Seasoning perfect. My wife had a hot pot dish that featured vegetables. Also outstanding, in fact she said she could eat another portion. We will definitely return when in the area. The facility is clean, has great service and an extensive menu.

Americanized Korean

By Steve G |

Had great hopes that this restaurant would be a great authentic Korean BBQ experience but it wasn’t. The table grill they use is very good and doesn’t create a smoke bomb. The beef rib meat was good but not much came with the meal. The sides that come with the meal is where the “Americanized” comment comes in. Hardly authentic Korean sides. Creamy coleslaw? Cucumbers in Italian seasoning? What? Not a bad meal but certainly not real Korean BBQ. Definitely tailored to customers who might not like real Korean side dishes.

Authentic Korean BBQ - Two thumbs up.

By Mitch L |

Can't go wrong here. Its authentic however, they use electric to heat up the grill. Their sides that are presented to you before the meal starts seems to be lacking a few items. You can ask for more, but when we asked for more spicy tofu, they had run out. We wanted to tend the grill ourselves, but it took us telling about 3-4 staff this before they finally left it alone. Maybe they should use red/green tongs? (red - customer will tend) They have this button on the wall where you can call for service, there are some options on this button, but we did not use it. Food is good. Place needs a little more ambiance.

American Korean

Quiet for business lunches, traditional enough to please out of town korean guests. BBQ available as well as menu options.

Authentic Korean Food

By John E |

We wanted Asian food and decided to hit this spot up that is directly off of the highway. My first impression was that the restaurant was clean. The hostess was very nice and sat us very promptly. We came in about 30 minutes before closing so there was only one other patron there at that time. She asked us if we wanted BBQ and when we told her yes, she turned the table top Grill on. The staff her do not speak English but were still very accommodating and very friendly. We ordered short ribs and bulgogi. The meat was very good and the staff checked on us frequently, even helped with cooking the meat at times. Each entree came with multiple sides that were all very strong in flavor. If you are not used to eating the sides, you may not like them although the white rice was a welcomed friend. In my opinion, the food is a bit overpriced but you do get plenty to eat. Overall this is a nice place to eat Korean food with nice staff and a clean eating environment. I enjoyed our meal and experience here.

You'll leave the restaurant delicious

By Khai L |

Prepare to leave the restaurant with an undeniable gift : the smokey scent lingering on your clothes. We came for a BBQ experience which was not so bad; the meat was marinated with enough flavor not too salty and not too sweet. We had short ribs, chicken marinated in soy sauce and pork in spicy house made sauce. I wish there were more options for meats such as squid octopus; they however have beef tongue. I like the service here more than Korea House and they wouldn't charge you extra for refilling side dishes. That won me over from Korea House. It's a bit expensive but it's ok to pay a hefty price for getting cancer once in a whole 😉

Almost LA level Korean BBQ

By David P |

A bit pricey for Austin, but the marinated ribs are to die for. They are so tender that you barely have to grill them and they just melt in your mouth. A couple of bottles of soju and man, I'm in meat heaven.

overpriced

By livelovex7 |

Many of my friends love this place but its really just ok. But for Austin, its not bad for Korean food. Just wish I can like it more but having the best Korean food in Cali really biases me so we tend ot expect more when it comes to Korean food. The soups aren't bad. Its just a bit overpriced. The portion of the bowls and taste are to par but just not overwhelming good that we would go back. Not that we didn't love it. We had a little gathering in one of their private rooms for a little party and ordered some already cooked meat and soups to share. They all were alright. The kalbi was tender and good but the portion was so small for its price that we can't really share. They were like more Korean places stingy on their panchans and didn't come back to refill unless asked to. They weren't on top of our water either. But all this is to expected in most Korean restaurants but if the portion size was bigger and the taste more wow, then we'd opt to excuse that. All in all, it wasn't bad. The korean seafood pancake was good, kalbi, bulgogi was ok and seafood spicy soup was good. Just not wowed by it all. Really wish Austin had a better go to place, affordable, bigger portions, more generous meat and noodle portions for its price. We'd be there. Otherwise, this place stil exist because there isn't any others to really compare to.

Authentic Korean food--quick and attentive service

By Glor56 |

We enjoyed a dinner at this Korean BBQ restaurant. Ordered bibimbop and another rice bowl dish off the menu instead of BBQ because the cost of BBQ (cooked on the gas table top bbq) was about twice the cost. Very good and plentiful meals.

"Awesome Korean BBQ!"

By Bandit331 |

Traveled here from Buda to get some Korean BBQ. After living in Korea for a few years, I was looking forward to this. We ordered numerous dishes but our favorite was the pork belly and kalbi on the table grill. The service was friendly, fast and accommodating. Lots of choices and full line of wine and beer.

Over priced, flavorless Korean food

By hershyhan |

Over priced, mediocre Korean food! Very bland. Flavorless. Both the meat and bahnchan. You get 2 tiny slices of kalbi for $30. Ridiculous. Will not be going back.

Delicious

By brantjames |

Got there just before dinner hour on a Sunday and was pleasantly surprised to see the place pack in with people. Being a tourist I like seeing lots of locals in there. Everyone was having a very good time and the food was delicious. I want but you're the name of what I had but it was be 9 on the menu chicken with spicy red pepper paste. Everything was done very nicely and came with lots of little side dishes. Would definitely go there again

Delicious and fun interactive dining experience

By TXFoodieJen |

What a fun place to come with family or friends- meats are cooked on a grill in the center of the table. Lots of condiments and sides to create a totally customized meal. Good service too

Adventure!

By StellaScout H |

Oh, I like good kimchi made on site, and picked radish, and the cabbage salad. I like cooking at my table with no smoke. This was fun and very tasty. Good coating on the squid, but it was chewier than I'm used to. That may be a cuisine difference. Staff was great and accommodated a no salt vegetarian very adroitly. Try this place out.

Interesting

Should have studied menu before going as not sure what to order. Most people ate the bbq. Atmosphere was boreing

Korean-cuisine happiness, in many forms.

By dieswaytoofast |

So yeah, you can get the usual "Korean barbecue" stuff here, and yeah, it's good. I mean, *really* good - try, if you can, to skip the pork-belly, and go for the tongue, it is *excellent*! That said, the pajeon (korean pancakes) are *excellent*, especially the kimchi and seafood versions. And the bi-bim-bop is even better, with an *excellent* crunchy crust formed at the bottom. Get yourself over there, have some excellent food, drink (at least one) Hite, and be happy!

Best New Year's Eve Dinner EVER!

By Kristin S |

I've been eating Korean food since I first started eating solid food. I love the sauces, the meat, the rice, and especially the little bowls of different side dishes. We know that Korean can be expensive, so we were waiting for a special occasion to go here. We even talked about it and decided how much we were going to spend before we even got in there, but that was pointless. We picked three types of meat for us to grill on the burner in front of us. They were pork belly, bulgogi, and brisket, and they came with raw vegetables. One scoop of rice was not enough for all that meat. I would have been fine with just rice, but my brother convinced us to order another platter of raw brisket! ugh Soooo good, but so hard on the wallet! I wasn't a huge fan of what they offered in the little bowls. Kim chee is always awesome, but the rest of them weren't that impressive. I was just hoping for a little more variety. I haven't been back to Chosun since New Year's. I'm saving it for a special occasion. In the meantime, I go to a more affordable Korean place near my apartment and just order the bibimbap. The side dishes are better there anyway! :D

This was great for a group, and variety ...

By GB_InTexas |

I love this place... with friends and large groups. This last time, 4 adults who were hungry. We ordered one "Assorted BBQ (for 3) - Combination of fresh short ribs, marinated short ribs, thinly sliced beef brisket, beef bulgogi, pork bulgogi, chicken bulgogi, and 3 jumbo shrimps" and one order of "Bulgogi - Slices of beef marinated in specially made house soy sauce" That was plenty of food, sooooo good. With the grill in the middle, it is an interactive experience, which the wait staff starts grilling the food at the start, and you as a patron get to continue once you get the hang of it. the beef bulgogi was the most popular, and second was the pork (spicy). but all of it was good... With a bottle of Soju (Korean rice alcohol)... and we were all good :) I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to experience a good time and good food. for the 4 of us, one appetizer, 1 order of soju and the food, it came out around $130 (without tips)... We will be back... TIP: get there early evening if you want to go for dinner... because it was crowded on a Sunday night :)

Change since our last visit

By sablatt |

The best dish we had, and it was very good, was the squid bibimbop. They upped the spice since our last visit, and the crusted rice was perfect as was the generous spicing. The seafood pancake was also very nice in a comfort food sort of way, and it also featured well cooked squid. However, none of the remaining six dishes were up to snuff, ranging from OK to puzzling and not worth eating. We didn't have any BBQ, and that may have been a mistake. Also, the banchan weren't very tasty or varied.

Great food and service

By mwright0131 |

I met some of my coworkers for lunch here. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our lunch party kept growing, so they offered to move us to the private room. Our waiter Ben was amazing and patient, and the food was delicious. We had the Kimchi pancake (crispy), Jabchae, Beef Bulgolgi, Soft Tofu Seafood Soup with Galbi, and combination meat grill. We will definitely come again.

YUM

By Jeffbo1962 |

I spent time researching a good Korean BBQ restaurant for this trip to Austin. Chosun Galbi was my pick and I couldn't be more pleased with the choice I made. The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very clean and free of odors! The place appeared to be a favorite of the Korean population as more than 70% of the tables were Korean families! We enjoyed the fried dumplings as well as the Bulgogi and Dwaeji Bulgogi. The banchan served was great as well and refilled - I truly enjoyed the Kimchi! At the end of the meal they served a nice COLD sweet beverage and I wish I knew what it was as it cooled me off right away! So if you want some excellent Korean BBQ Chosun Galbi is the place in Austin to go!

Terrific Korean BBQ and Really Fun for the Whole Family!

By DLPAustin |

We took eight teenage boys for Korean BBQ this weekend at Chosun Galbi here in Austin. Terrific meal which included multiple course of Yangnyum Galbi (marinated beef short ribs); beef Bulgogi (slices of beef marinated in house soy sauce); Chadol Baki (thinly sliced fresh marbled brisket); and Sam Gyeob Sal (slices of pork belly). Comes with numerous side dishes of Kimchi for the table: traditional fermented Korean side dishes including napa cabbage, radish, scallion, and cucumber as the main ingredients. One complaint though. The Kimchi was terrific but for our large group there should have been more of it. Everybody loved everything at this dinner. Go soon. You won’t be disappointed and it’s really super fun grilling the BBQ right there at your table!

Good Korean Restaurant with Extensive Opitons

By JamesSMc |

Cho sun (ha, get it) offers a variety of traditional Korean options. While not inexpensive, the food is of good quality and the lunch specials are very generous with the main dish and sides. The beef bulgogi was not sweet (as it is at some Korean places) and the pork bulgogi was nicely spicy without being drenched in hot oil and was not fatty. The side dishes, in particular the kimchi, were also good. My wife had one of the fish dishes and really enjoyed it. Overall, it is a good Korean restaurant that has extensive options.

Pretty good Korean bbq

By Padraic M |

Found this place on a recent trip to Austin tx. A veteran Korean traveller missing my frequent trips to Seoul and Suwon KBBQ's. This place started off different. The tables are equiped with infrared radiant heated grills. No poor guy hauling a white hot pot of coals and dropping it into your table. Instead of the usual. Mesh screen to grill your food, a sheet metal tray is inserted. Instead of grilling your own food, the table host does it for you. Ours did a fine job, but you miss out on the community action of cooking your own and serving your friends. Still, the food was excellent. We went with beef and pork galbi and brisket. A nice selection of traditional kimchi and other vegetables are served too. I suspect the food safety laws in TX require a table host to cook. In MN where I am from, even this is prohibited, alas, no MN Korean bbq's can exist All in all, we had a great time, the soju was excellent and I'd go again. 3 stars, cuz its not Seoul. Compared to other US K bbq's, I'd score it 4 stars!

Good

By CindyPL |

Food wasn’t so bad compared to other big cities like LA/NY. But then again not too many good Korean food in Austin other than Japanese. Ate here several times during my visit to Austin. Staff were friendly but very slow.

Fun Korean BBQ - Tasty Food

By CharlieinTexas |

Started with the Kimchi pancake which was enough for 4, deliciously warm, with a buttery-like crunch, and only a tad spicey. Had short ribs and bulgogi prepared at the table, with lettuce wraps, garlic, onion, and mushroom. Yum! The side dishes, including kimchi were also tasty. Nice meal!

Good but expensive night out

By suprchick77 |

Cooking your own meat at your table is always fun, for some reason. So my husband and I had a very nice evening here. The short rib was amazing! It cost $30 for a small amount of meat, but it was tender and flavorful. I also had the brisket and the pork belly, which were $20 each, and they didn't compare at all to the short rib. This would be a great place to bring a big group of friends, if they can afford it.

Great lunch with good service

By WilliamS404 |

Authentic Korean food as indicated by the number of Koreans enjoying the cuisine. Everything we tried was great. I had an octopus dish that was very tasty. My only criticism would be that the octopus was tough. This would no prevent me from ordering it again but many Americans would not like it this way.

VERY GOOD KOREAN BBQ EXPERIENCE

By AEBBrenham |

A nice and flavorful dinner for the Evening.. We tried the Fatty Brisket, Pork Belly, and extra Mushrooms. We grilled these and some other Vegetables, and enjoyed with the dipping sauces and sides--including Housemade Kimchee, Pickled Radish, Pickled Cucumber, and others. Also, an Appetizer of Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura. A great meal. Very attentive Servers. Not cheap, yet a good value. Plenty of Parking and convenient location right off of Interstate 35.

Good Korean Food.

By Jeffrey B |

I am kind of picky about my Korean food and I really liked this restaurant. The Bogagi is very good, but so is the rest of their menu. I eat here every time I visit Austin.
