We had lunch here. The fish and chips were good as was the spicy fish sandwich. Portions were generous. Prices were in line with tourist destination restaurants. It's in the middle of the action at Fisherman's Wharf. There are self-service and full-service options. It's clean.

This is 1 of the local Boudin chain restaurants, famous for their bread bowls. We had the New England clam chowder and crab chowder bread bowls. Both were very good.

Great cocktails, great food, great service and not overpriced like some in prime locations. The location is lovely, you’re outside but protected by the wind from glass panels, sitting by the fire pit with cocktails and the garlic fries is so relaxing. Totally recommend going here!

We ate when we arrived in SF after dropping off our rental car at this snack bar. We had the famous crab chowder. No regrets, it was very good and well served. Go there without hesitation.

So, we ordered our food and tried to order a drink while doing so, but the clerk advised we had to order our drink from a different window. She also said that we could sit anywhere. My wife walked around to the drink window and ordered her drink while I waited for our food. I should note that this "hut" is surrounded by a small wall and has seating all around the "hut" inside the wall. There is NOTHING differentiating seating areas. So the bar tender tells my wife that since she didn't order her food from the bar area, we could not sit near the bar. I found this odd and asked a waitress if this was true. She was surprised as well and clearly told me that we "could sit ANYWHERE." So I set our food down and go for condiments. My wife comes behind me fuming, because the bar tender came to our table, slammed his hand down and said to her, "I told you, you can't sit here!" Trust me, my wife is not an argumentative person, but she was totally shocked. We asked to speak to a manager, but it was pretty clear that he really did not care. He did admit that we SHOULD have been allowed to sit there and that there are no signs/markings indicating the area was for a "bar area." He admitted that though alcohol is only served from the bar area, it's the same business, which confused me even more. We spent money at both areas, the food window and the bar, so I couldn't understand the bar tender's deal. Bottom line.......We did NOT like the way they handled it at all. There are so many other places to spend your money!

Great location, and the glass panels make it so comfy to sit outdoors. Fish and chips were good, but the crab chowder in sourdough bowl is excellent.

We visited Chowder hut for lunch and its a pretty good place for a casual lunch..the food was good, staff were very friendly and overall we enjoyed our lunch here.. would definately go there again...

We had great service and food was made within 5 minutes. We ordered calamari and chips which we shared between 2. It was a large portion and both believed it was great value for money.

Am so glad I found this place located in the Wharf. It is a great place to get the day started. Make sure you get a seat at the bar so you can "people watch" as you enjoy one of their clam chowder bowls with a Bloody Mary. The family and I really enjoyed sitting outside and enjoying the day. Look forward to going back there on my next visit. Hope this helps. Thanks!

Went here for lunch as we were checking out the Piers. Had the Fried Shrimp and Fried Calamari. Both came with fries which were OK. The Prawns were a little greasy and the Calamari was tough. The staff were friendly and the drinks were cold. Would not eat here again.

Enjoyed a fish and chips and a burger with a great view of the wharf and entertainment by a Street Vendor nearby. Nice fire pits with chairs to relax by. We stopped later and had a drink at the bar outside with heater above. It was wonderful.

we too, like the numerous tourists who flock to Fisherman's Wharf, wanted to try, returning from our long walks and visits, the famous soup served in a loaf of bread in this kiosk located on the Pier seafront. Nothing exceptional, but certainly tasty and accompanied by a beer

No visit to San Francisco is complete without clam chowder. Having it served to you in a Boudin sourdough bread bowl makes it extra special. This place is busy but service is prompt and friendly. Heaters are strategically placed so you can people watch. Simply wonderful.

Everywhere else around had 30-45 minute wait times for what looked like over priced and average seafood. We're so glad we left the long queues and went for these guys. Had the fish sandwich and fries and the fish and chips with a beer for a very reasonable price. Great to watch people on the pier as you eat. Very relaxed out in the heated outdoor area. Recommend if you're in the area and need to eat.

What was odd when our crab dinner arrived was that some weird tasting spiced bread crumbs were put on top of the crab and then drizzled with butter. We were expecting boiled crab with butter on the side. The bread crumbs really spoiled the taste of the crab meat. Service was slow. The staff were not friendly. We were disappointed with this meal selection.

By far, the best clam chowder you will taste on the wharf! Every time I come to S.F., I head here to get my clam chowder fix! The tourists, sights, smells and the seagulls only add to the experience.

Stopped by for happy hour when they weren’t busy … 10 minutes later I still hadn’t been acknowledged. Ended up leaving and going elsewhere.

Waiter was a lovely young man - a student from Europe. He went out of his way to make it a pleasant evening. The wine selection was virtually non existent. The food was what you would expect in a tourist trap - edible but not a place to rush back to.

Ideally situated for both drinks and something to eat at Fisherman's wharf. Very casual place to hang out and with its glass screened surround, a great to watch & hear the world go by too. Food is good portions at reasonable prices, drinks a little pricey but look where you are! Very friendly hard working staff who are excellent at the service they provide.Always worth stopping here in my humble opinion.

Good crab chowder in bread bowl for a reasonable price. Outdoor seating which is nice. Also serve beer and wine.

Clam Chowder was amazing, ambiance was so so nice, and the staff was very friendly. Quick service and food was hot and out fast!

Nice to sit outside under heater. Next time I would go for the self service part. Did not see the added value of being served. Lady was nice, but food was still in a box. Chowder was nice, but the salad (approx 16 dollar- most expensive on the menu) could have been made with a little more creativity. Or at least served with some bread. See picture.

Okay...went to SF via the ferry from Vallejo...it may not have been the best choice of days, but not all days are. It was overcast. When I got off the ferry, I decided to keep walking, headed for Fisherman's Wharf. It was a good walk, about a mile plus. To see that everything on Fisherman's Wharf was boarded up was sad. But I was more hungry and needed a restroom break to think things through. There was nothing else open but Chowder Hut. They had the Covid restrictions in place...for a cold weekday afternoon, no issues there. There were only a few tourists like me visiting the famous area. I ordered a Bloody Mary, clam chowder in a bread bowl and a sandwich. While that was working, I went to the rest room...around the corner from the order window. Egads...it had not been tended to and needed tending badly. Apparently, the restaurant is not responsible for the upkeep of it. The young woman at the order window was very sweet, polite and kind. I found a table to sit at, then they called my number. Everything was as ordered and it was as described on the menu. The clam chowder was good and the sandwich so big I had to improvise to cart the remainder back to the ferry (and home). Just as I was finishing, it started to sprinkle. Though there was an awning, it wasn't enough to cover the tables so much. There was also a glass wall of sorts, no doubt to keep stranglers out of the eating area. I took photos of the famed restaurants across the street (now boarded due to Covid/other)(see Fisherman's Wharf entry)...The paper bag was not going to work while it rained during the walk back. I stopped at souvenir store at Pier 39 and they gave me a plastic bag. I didn't mind the rain but boy did I get wet. Can't help a good rain on a bad day to take off.

We found our way to the Chowder Hut because we were killing time waiting for our hotel room to be ready. It’s a fun place that sits right in the middle of Fisherman’s Wharf. The bartenders were great and very personable. We were not going to eat but ended up splitting the Famous Lemon Peel n' Eat Grilled Garlic Shrimp. It was enough for two. We spent 5 days in the area, and I wished I had went back one more time. They have a nice menu and good happy hour specials.

Went on a Friday afternoon and got a table on the outside and watched time and people go by. We had a few drinks, mainly Anchor Steam beer and then ordered calamari and chips after seeing a lot of other people eating them. It was a good decision as they were fantastic. The prices amazingly cheaper than anywhere on Fishermans Wharf. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed having lunch with our friends at the chowder hut at fisherman's wharf. The chowder soup in the big bread bun is awesome, the best we ate. Also location is great and the seating places around the hut are comfortable and the glass fence is great in windy days and you also have a nice view! Going back for sure.

Good food. Reasonable prices for SF. Great service. Indoor/ outdoor seating available (depends on weather too, of course). Nice view of waterfront from some outdoor seats.

I’m a Sous Chef at a 1 Star Michelin Restaurant and have worked in the industry for the past 25 years. I have eaten at some of the best places on Earth and would like to share my experiences of restaurants and fast food establishments based purely on my order and my order alone. We happened upon this place after i forked out 49 dollars for a whole crab nearby for my young son who’d been dying to try some. The shack itself is the kitchen. There’s no indoor eating for grabs, that was the case indeed on our visit. The outdoor eating area was ok. Picnic benches addorned with a parosol. I ordered the garlic shrimp on sourdough. When it arrived there were no fancy pants arrangements to it, which i actually like. The prawns themselves were shell on and together with the garlic butter and mild chilli were delicious! For the price this was a pretty good meal. The sourdough bread was soaked at the end with garlic butter and was a welcome finish to the meal. Staff were efficient and courteous. Would i eat here again? Yes very much so.

I had a bowl of clam chowder and my wife had a crab salad sandwich and both were excellent and came with fast friendly service

We walked by and saw a few tables with their food and we knew we were going to stop and eat there at some point, and we did and it was amazing! The service was really good too!

Wondering around the area we stopped by for a drink and to use the facilities. Fun, outdoor spot with a friendly bar, great music and lively crowd. Would love to stop by again if in the area.

This was our second trip to San Francisco. The Chowder Hut is our number one destination for meals. We ate here 3 times in 4 days. Their fresh crab and the clam chowder are excellent. And they make the best margaritas of anywhere we have been! Love the firepits. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Love the ambiance of the whole place overlooking the water on Fisherman's Wharf.

Was there for Happy Hour on July23rd, and the service was the worst I have had in a long time. The 2 male servers seemed more interested in flirting, than serving. They were asked several times we needed more tartar sauce, and they never brought any. We finally got a bus boy to get some, which he did right away. We won't be coming back.

We stopped here because their food display looked delicious - it wasn't lying! We sat outside by the heater and really enjoyed watching people (and seagulls!). You have to get the clam or crab chowder in a bread bowl. It's so good!!! It was a very enjoyable lunch. The service was fast and the prices were reasonable!

Busy place because it has good food. Nice to chill out and people watch. Fast, efficient and friendly service. Would recommend. The calamari was a must have.

Great clam chowder in a bread bowl. Self service or full service restaurant. Pricing the same at both. Very good food and selection.

This was my least favorite place to eat. The food was just okay but the service was out standing. Nice views and the heater was nice as well.

At the center of Fisherman's Wharf this place serves tipical american sea dishes. Crab, shrimps, fried shrimps and more. Wonderfoul seasight, sea air and sea people. Sitting in the garden of the restourant with a beer, the sun on your face and a plate of crab you can breath the real spirit of this neighborhood.

If I could have given a review rate of ZERO I would. This was the worst fish & chips and calamari I’ve had in my entire life!!!!! Everything was cold and you could’ve broken your teeth on the calamari. They must have cooked it yesterday…here’s a tip look at the food on display (the fake stuff) that probably would’ve tasted better….VOMIT worthy food!

As soon as we returned from a boat tour we came across many very nice fish restaurants, but this one struck us for something that was perhaps silly: it had the dishes on the menu displayed so you could see what you were eating. Having seen that they all served more or less the same things in the surrounding area, we decided to try it and we ate very well! My fisch and chips were excellent, it wasn't greasy and I digested it very well! My husband got a crab sandwich and loved it! Fast, simple service, price in line with the place! I would go back for the quality of the fried fish.

Our first family lunch in San Francisco was here. The place is right across the street from Fisherman's Wharf. The food tasted good, portions good sized for lunch, the service was very good and the prices according to the area. The chowder can not be compared to the famous one from Monterey's Old Fisherman's Grotto, but it satisfies

Quick service. Scrummy clam chowder and calamari. Good prices for where you are. Definitely worth a visit.

We stopped by to have the clam chowder soup in the Boudin sourdough bread bowl and it was very good. Soup was flavorful and the bread soft and fresh. They offer outdoor seating with heat lamps for chilly days. They have free ice water and bathroom. Worth a try.

Great shrimp and cocktail sauce. Great customer service and reasonable prices. Love the fireplace in the middle. However I was not impressed with the public bathroom outside. They were dirty. It would be nice if they took pride in their bathroom gross

This is a great place if you just want a quick bite without the fuss of a waiter and stuff. You order at the window..pay and wait for your #. Pick up and sit down in their tables. No standing up. Also it is the most affordable. 9.95 for chowder in a Boedein bread bowl.

The Chowder Hut is a typical tourist spot.. efficient service, quick to get you out and move you along.. had the chowder and it was nothing special.. the bread was quite hard and ended up leaving it behind as it was so dense that it did not absorb any of the chowder. there is seating along. They refused to validate parking as well.

Our last night we wanted fish and chips. We tried this location. The fish was great, the batter was not overwhelming. The atmosphere is more of a fast food establishment. This is due to the high volume of customers. Well worth dining here. The prices are low.

This place is perfectly located at Fisherman's Wharf. The menu is varied, and prices are very reasonable considering the locale. We had the Chowder in a large cut out sourdough. It was fantastic! I loved the open air seating which afforded a wonderful view of people-watching and partial bay view. As well, observing nearby street artists! And, those seated nearby who wanted the more ambient sort of experience, and especially those with small children, the outdoor open fire heaters seemed very rewarding as they enjoyed their meal. Two beers later, we were ready for our Alcatraz experience, just across the street, and later the Golden Gate tour. Can't go wrong with this place!

We went inadvertently in Happy Hour. Fish sliders were only 5 dollars and we had a clam chowder bread bowl. A little cold sat out side but the food was nice

We chose to eat here for lunch based on its location and abundance of outdoor seating. I ordered the crab salad which was pretty good. My wife got the fish tacos which were very good. The drinks were solid.

Had the clam chowder soup in a sourdough bowl and was very good. Also had the fish and chips which were delicious.Place is outdoor, the service is a walk up or full service waiter. Staff is friendly and fast.

There is no inside dining here. You can sit at the bar or they have tables. The also have a fire pit which has seating. We were looking for a quick lunch before heading down fisherman's warf so we stopped here. It was close to noon so it was busy. We were seated right away but it did take a while for the waitress to come and take our order. I got a spicy fish sandwich that was delicious and we ordered the garlic fries as an appetizer which were yummy as well. It took quiet a while for us to ge the ticket but again in was noon and they were slammed. Overall this is a nice casual place for lunch or drinks and appetizers.

Decided to stop here to rest our weary walking bones instead of standing to eat food from side walk fish shacks, sparing ourselves the dive bombing of seagulls :). We were disappointed to find that at 11:55 am (before the lunch rush) they were out of shrimp cocktail (?!). My daughter had a fish sandwich with fries and I had a very nice crab chowder (a bit spicy and peppery-yum). However, the size of my sourdough bread bowl dwarfed the amount of chowder that was actually served. I would have liked more. So I left hungry having not eaten the bread, ate some shrimp from the sidewalk stand and went to Ghiradelli's for dessert. Score!

The atmosphere was very touristy. The food was great. We both had fish and chips and at $17.00 the were half the price of the restaurant directly across the street. It is outside seating on one side and inside seating on the other. The food was great.

This was a very busy place. The place was a mess, but there was only one guy working and he was running his butt off! We had the fish and chips. It was fine, deep fried cod, kind of greasy but it was served piping hot.

This place smells and is not good. I have never seen a local SF person in here. This is tourists only, meaning you will pay more for less quality. SF has so much better to offer. We are a foodie delight and coming here is such a disappointment.

There is no inside seating here so I would hate to go while it is raining as I am not sure the cover would stop you from getting wet. There was enough of an issue that it was cool when we went that it did not feel the best. I had chicken fingers which were tasty and my wife had fish and chips and her fish was well done and tasty. The fries however left a lot to be desired... if they made their own fries instead of the thing pre-packaged stuff they served us it would have been so much better. They prices are excellent and overall we were pleased!

We stopped by for lunch during our touring of the Fisherman’s Wharf area. We were really happy with our choice. Our group had 2 chowder bowls, crab melt sandwich and a crab sandwich. Everyone thought the food was great - no complaints. Atmosphere was nice. Sat outside in the sun and was not bothered by the scavenging seagulls and pigeons outside the glass walls surrounding the patio. Service was great. Only negative was the washroom facilities - they were really not good - the restaurant’s washrooms were public washrooms located outside and to the back of the building.

With so many places to try Clam Chowder, we went with Chowder Hut Grill and it was a good decision. Service was good and the food was great. Good size portions for the price too.

The Chowder Hut is always our first stop in San Francisco. We split the sour dough bun filled with hot clam chowder. This is so good (hot and tasty) and a tradition for us to begin our visit to this great city. The service is walk up or a full service waiter for you. We just walk up order and sit outside enjoying our meal in the cool Bay weather. This is also a great spot for people watching.

Not happy with this place and ended up dumping some of the food. Husband had the seafood chowder and said it was average and I had the fish and chips which I ended up throwing away. Lovely environment but food needs to be improved.

Location offers seating inside & outside; great place to people watch; the service was very good & the food was tasty

We were looking for good fish and chips!! Definitely found it!! Great food! Freindly and quick service!!

I got food poison from eating one of the beef burgers there and it’s the most sick I’ve ever been. It’s not a very nice place too, the whole feel of it isn’t very good and the menu doesn’t offer too much. Me and my sister picked 2 different beef burgers and both got food poison, we’ve both been extremely sick for the last 5 days and my sister even went to hospital. The burgers came out extremely fast which wasn’t a good sign and the service wasn’t very good too. I think I’m general this place isn’t very good even if I didn’t get food poison I would not enjoy going to this restaurant.

After walking around Fisherman's Wharf and developing an appetite, we stopped by the Chowder hut and shared the chowder in a bread bowl and a Caesar salad. There was a slight wind that day, but the glass enclosure made it nice and warm in the sun and made the crowd watching perfectly enjoyable while we ate and sipped on a beer.

I had the crab chowder it was lovely, but it was a little sweet. This was solved pretty quickly with a dash of salt and addition of pepper. I know crab is sweet so this does normally occur but it’s not five due to having to season to counter the sweetness. Worth it regardless!!!

It was my first time to try a chowder crab soup and I think it is tasteful. I do not like the sourdough bread however. Nice place to sit down and have a little snack after walking aorund the fisherman's wharf.

The location is great, and the view is unbeatable. Service is magnificent, and staff are very friendly and welcoming. However, chowder was decent not as expected.

Tried out this little gem while looking for a "linner" with the family. The prices seemed fine for the given area. Thought the idea of not having chowder in a bowl option was silly. Not everyone wants a bread bowl with chowder... Had the calamari too... Upset it had to come with fries but realized that it's most likely due to the lack of calamari in the order. Mostly breading. They had a guy changing the gross trash cans 3 Times while we sat 4 feet away. Liquid draining all over the ground by us.

One of the many clam chowder restaurants in Fisher man's Wharf. The taste is similar to the clam chowder in other restaurants, but it is a good place to sit and eat while looking at the harbor. Keep in mind that there are many stalls around that sell clamp chowder at cheaper prices, but there is no place to sit.

My son ordered fish tacos, i ordered (I thought) the fish sandwich. It was very hard to understand the person taking the order and obviously vice versa. After we sat down we discovered she rang me up for a cheeseburger. They corrected the order but charged me the difference of 66 cents. They messed the order so i think should have let such a small amount of money slide. The food was very good, though.

Convenient location on the Wharf, did the walk up window and enjoyed the outside seating . Those with had the shrimp basket

After we finished to visit the Fisherman’s Wharf, we decided to stop by for a quick bite. The chowder was served in a sourdough bread bowl and it was tasty. However its quality was pretty average. It is a very touristy spot and our impression was was that they do not care too much about quality. The food joint is by the water and we enjoyed the view.

We thought we would get some good seafood here. We ordered a crab salad which was a bit disappointing as it was just a salad with a few flakes of crab. I would say its is worth paying more and going to a good seafood restaurant

Most cities have a "Fisherman's Wharf", the sort of place that draws tourists likes moths to a flame and then seriously burns them with overpriced poor quality food and drink. You almost expect it. So we were really pleasantly surprised to not experience that at the Chowder Hut Grill. We ate here twice and tried a few things, the clam chowder (of course), fish and chips, fried shrimp and calamri. All the food was good but its worth mentioning a couple of things. The calamari was definitely, by far, the best value. The shrimp and fish were really nice but not a lot for the money. The chowder was pretty good although I have to say I'd like the option of not having the bread bowl and paying a little less but I appreciate its part of the whole Fishermans' Wharf thing. Whilst we didn't have one I'd say the burgers also looked rather good and big. So I'm sure there are lots of other similar restaurants in Fisherman's Wharf but when I return I'll be coming here and having a plate of calamari and a pint of Anchor Steam.

The Chowder House offers both account or service or sit-down restaurant service. Meals are served quickly and piping hot. The clam chowder in a Sourdough Bowl it's fantastic. The hot crab sandwich comes with a helping of french fries on the side. It's very filling and very good!

Chose there because it was one of the few locations that offered seating. Chowder was disappointing. Watered down. Not a lot of flavor. Pigeons and seagulls everywhere and under foot.

Right at Pier 39 of Fisherman's Wharf. For expensive fast food it was very good. I am only rating a 4 as if was fast food and value is questionable. The portion size was ok but the fish was prepared perfectly and hot. No complaints on that. Would I eat there again, Yes, Fish and Chips Outstanding!!!

Very busy restaurant in a good populated area. Very busy when got there. Had to wait maybe 10 minutes or so. Staff was efficient but not real friendly. Our group ordered the Croq Madame. Not like one I have ever had before. Like a ham breakfast sandwich with a hard fried egg on top. Was pretty decent. The waffle with whipped cream and strawberries was good. Hot and fresh with plenty of strawberries. The corned beef has good but kind of greasy. The food did come out super fast if you are in a hurry. They have big portions. Overall. A good experience.

First time in this place from DC, food are very testy, specially take off section staffs are very friendly and very fast no need to wait like indoors, the casher Carlos is very friendly .

I just didn't know where to go and get clam chowder in San Francisco...there are so many places and I've been there a number of times. I passed by the Chowder Hut and thought to myself, "Self...you are alone so you can sit at the bar, have some chowder, drink some beer and people watch." And that's exactly what I did. The bartenders were very attentive and friendly. Great spot to kickback and enjoy the surroundings.

Very nie place to have a rest, drink beer and eat something. I recomend fresh grilled shrimps. They were delicious.

Stopped here after a day by the Wharf. The food was good and reasonably priced for the area. The outdoor atmosphere is nice and relaxing. Our food took a bit to come out and for the number of people coming and going, there could have been more servers. Our waiter was really nice and friendly but overwhelmed with the number of tables he had to take care of. Although not fancy, it worked out nicely for a evening meal with friends.

One can never go wrong with this place . Everytime we are in Sanfrancisco we visit it on fishermans wharf. Touristy place but the food was good and prepared quickly . We had clam chowder soup, fried shrimps (very tasty and fresh) and fish and chips.

A speciality of fisherman’s wharf area, this sourdough n clam chowder was excellent, served quickly, reasonable priced, and delicious, I would highly recommend it

Delicious, fresh food prepared quickly. The staff was friendly and you more than get what you paid for! We had fish tacos and crab chowder and both were delicious.

Great Clam Chowder in a sourdough roll. Hubby and I shared that and a serve of calamari and fries for lunch. Half of the restaurant is table service and the other half seating for takeaway. Reasonable price and tasty food. Quick service.

We stumbled across this place on the hunt for some Clam Chowder and we was so glad to find it, the staff were so friendly, we perched up at the bar and stayed there for hours, we ordered a clam chowder which was very inexpensive and it was the best one we had. Lovely time here, hope to be back some day.

Nice sunny wind-sheltered fireplace seating by the bar! And the clam chowder is so much better than what we get back home at the food court at Maplewood Mall! 😊

We stopped here for a bite after walking around downtown SF. We ordered at the counter and found a seat. They call your number for you to come up and get your food once ready. We had an order of the clam chowder in the sourdough bread bowl, an order of fish & chips and an order of fried shrimp. The chowder was very good and the bread good too. The fish and chips were four decent pieces with good fries and was very tender and tasty. The shrimp were probably about 8 of them but had a lot of breading but still tasty. I would not rush back to this restaurant. Food was decent for what we needed and I would eat here again if in the area but just get the fish& chips but I wouldn't go out of the way to come here to eat.

Good quality food but a tad expecsive (exchange rates??). Fast service. Clam chowder is really excellent and not over seasoned.

Although we didn’t eat here. The food looked really good especially the fish and chips and fried calamari. We only got drinks but they have a great beer selection with locals on tap and excellent mixed drinks. The frozen rum runner is one of the best we’ve had so it’s a must try.

Not good at all. I had the fish and chips. The fish was very greasy and overcooked and there weren't many chips. Can't believe this place gets 4 stars from other reviewers. Would never ever come back here and expected more from a restaurant in Fisherman's wharf.

Fish and seafood dishes in this take-away and fast-food restaurant. I have taken fried squids, not bad but not excellent. Good sauces. If a bit cheaper as street-food, I would have increased the score.

If you go here thinking you’re going to have amazing chowder, you will be sorely disappointed. Get the fish and chips and save yourself the money. The place is crawling with singles another birds. It’s a little dirty.

The chowder soup was DELICIOUS! It was a bit overpriced compared to other establishment, but we were trying to hide from the rain, so we didn't mind.

Walked by this place on a busy Sunday afternoon as I was strolling along the promenade. The restaurant was not busy, service was prompt. I has the clam chowder which was simple but really tasty. Loved the way it was served to me inside a sourdough loaf!?! Fantastic! Would advise anyone looking for a quick and simple bite to eat to try this place.

Excellent crab salad! My niece got the clam chowder in the bread bowl...awesome!!! Restaurant-quality "fast food" seafood! Walk-up window, ready in less than 5 minutes. Highly recommend!!!

This was a great walk up restaurant when I needed something quick and the lobster chowder was delicious! The service was thorough and quick, helping me get on my way for more sightseeing. Great location!

In a flash of madness we decided to get a quick bite instead of a sit down lunch and the worst option is this place. The seemingly short lineup at the cash and carry counter took 40 minutes because a single cashier does it all. Then another 25 minutes to get the food half of which was already cold. To top it all they served the most watered down chowder I have ever had. Any of the stands and restaurants across from this place have much better food and service.

This place is kinda terrible , lady with a bullhorn trying to get people in the door . Ordered a double whiskey sour from the grumpiest balled bartender, no smile, no charisma, the guy simply just didn’t want to be there and it was very obvious, Ordered a crab sandwich, bread not toasted, crab salad not seasoned, super lame looking and tasted just as lame . Please do not go there it’s just awful Also, no washrooms on site .

We stoppedin for a quick bute for lunch and got the chowder bread bowl and some shrimp. The chowder was amazing, some of the best I have had. The shrimp were overcooked and not very tasty, too much grease and seasoning and a mess to peel. The staff was not too friendly either, but the chowder was outstanding and made up for the other things, and besides it was a quick lunch.

Stopped by for a quick lunch. Place was crazy busy, hard to find a seat, and tables gross because since it is outside and they have grooves to them they cant be cleaned properly. The portions are pretty small except for the fish sandwich which has a good large roll and a small piece of fish and a ton of slaw. I was disappointed that the fish was catfish not something fresh from the very near ocean?! Price was also very high.

We had just arrived in SFO after 2 weeks touring California. It was a lovely day, about 5pm so just sat here and had a few beers and soaked up the atmosphere - perfect. We didn’t eat here so can’t comment on the food, looked ok (they had exact portions set up in a glass case so you could see what you were getting) We went to the sourdough place nearby for tea...when in Rome and all that!

Wanted a quick late lunch that didn't set us back $100+. One got the chicken strips-pretty normal. One got clam chowder bread bowl and calamari-was ok. I got crab chowder bread bowl. I enjoyed mine, however, I wish it had had a little more chowder.

Friends and I decided to try the Chowder Hut, we had walked by a few times I the last few days. The food was good, we ad the crab melt sandwhich, the Wharf fish sandwhich and the shrimp basket. We also had cocktails, which tasted good but came in small plastic picnic cups, not what I had expected. The waitress was very nice and helpful. We sat along the glass windows which were very dirty and very smeared, not really something you want to see while eating. The public bathrooms that are attached to the building were disgusting and multiple stalls were out of toilet paper. I do not think the restaurant has anything to do with the bathrooms, but since they are attached it does reflect on the restaurant as you can smell them while eating.

A convenient location and decent food. We ordered fish and chips and a couple of drinks. A bit overpriced for the food we got,( four pieces of fish and some limp fries) but the service and staff were top notch. Plenty of outdoor seating and warm with the enclosures and fire pit. We got what we wanted.

Great spot for a quick and easy family lunch. Delicious crab chowder. Quick and friendly table service. Happy hour drinks and meals 3pm-5pm weekdays.

If the weather is good this is a great place to people watch on Fisherman's Wharf. The food is reasonably priced as is the beer.

We had always heard about how expensive SF is. Not true. Every place we ate, like Chowders, was reasonably priced. We ate Fish and Chips and they were delicious. They boast a 'best-clam chowder' served in a bread bowl of the area. Unfortunately, we didn't get any, but we saw many others around us who did. Recommend for a quick bite - quick friendly service.

We were extremely happy with our dinner here. The staff were friendly and the service was fast! We had the fish tacos, fried shrimp and fish and chips. All 3 were amazing!!!! My youngest is very picky and she devoured her shrimp! We loved the the atmosphere which was great for people watching! The fire places are perfect for this open air setting!

An amazing preparation of Crab and Clam Chowder. One of the best Fish And Chips I had in the Bay area. One of the better restaurants in the Fishermans Wharf area.

This is a casual restaurant with great food. I had a spicy fish sandwich, which was great. Service was also great and the price was reasonable. We had a late lunch here and there was no need for dinner as this was very filling. Try the garlic fries also, they were great!

We visited on August 26th 2018 and used the walk in section, a very busy venue we had the fried calamari and fish sandwich and was very nice along with an Anchor Steam beer, we would recommend this venue for lunch

We arrived here at approximately 6 o’clock in the evening on a Friday night. We ordered our food and drinks. They close at 6:30 before any of the shops around have even close. Server was not friendly, especially to the people that came after we arrived. He obviously did not enjoy his job, food was not great and service even poorer. Would not recommend and would not come back.

Clam Chowder is delicious. The fish & chips was also quite good. The service might take some time, but good food overall

The wife and I were looking for a really good bowl of chowder. We were seated fast and our waiter was great. The location, Views and staff were great. The only problem was, was how hot the chowder was. I love hot, but even for me it was too hot. I'm hoping we got a bowl that someone had gotten a lot too much heat in it.

Slow but worth the wait The grilled fish tacos were exceptional. You order at the counter and pick up your food We had a street musician playing and a fun time for all. Best of all no rain

We went here for lunch with our family and thew chowder in a bread bowl was the best. Nice place on the wharf.

We tried two types of crab sandwich and crab soup, all very rich, but the sizes rather small. We ordered a bottle of wine, but they brought us plastic cups because they don't have glasses. Very well located.

Okay food in very casual, sports bar type setting back off main road. Staff were friendly and worked very hard but seemed understaffed, with them literally unable to keep pace with business (not their fault)

Little open on Fisherman's Wharf when we were there; the state decided to reopen on June 15th. This was one of the few places, so we didn't have many choices. Wife got clam chowder and said it was good. I got a fish sandwich with fries and although the Italian bread they used for a bun was huge, the fish, while tasting good, was lacking in quantity. Total price of the meal was almost $35. I guess that's average for this town.

I missed Happy Hour by about 15 minutes, but the food was pretty good. I had the Original Clam Chowder, and it didn't disappoint. I ate the chowder and most of the bowl.

Had a lovely and tasty lunch here! Excellent fish and chips. Good service. Great spot by the Wharf. Good calamari as well!

Very disappointed in their clam chowder. No clams, just corn. Portion small. Also would not recommend their fish and chip.

This place was recommended to us by a couple of friends, so we had to visit. The draw (for me) was the clam chowder served in a hollowed out loaf of sourdough bread. It was only later that I realised that practically every restaurant in Fisherman's Wharf serves chowder in exactly the same way. Doh! So, was it exceptional? Not really. It wasn't what I was expecting. The location is good, you can sit outside, sheltered by glass panels, and watch the world go by. You order your food from a serving window - the guy we spoke to seemed to have difficulty understanding our British accents and asked us to point to what we wanted from the menu. After a short while a waiter brings your food over. The chowder was fine, but it wasn't even the second best I've had this holiday. It was just - okay. My wife ordered a hot dog and again it was fine, with a nice portion of fries and onion rings. Prices were pretty cheap. Overall, not bad, but there are probably better places for chowder within easy walking distance.

Nice food, fast and friendly service, great location. We especially enjoyed the Chowders, but the kids went for salads, hot dog and calamari which were very good too. Even in end of November, the Terrasse was warm and confortable.

Popped in here for a beer and a hot dog. When it came there were chips too and the hot dog was big too. It was very reasonable and the staff were friendly.

This was our first stop for local food when visiting San Francisco. We were enticed by the name and its location. The food was great. Chowder was very tasty and served in a sour dough bread bowl. Highly recommend. We also had the calamari and it was a generous portion. We ate outside and enjoyed the people watching and the live music offered by a local busker.

Chowder Hut knows its business -- pumping out chowder bread bowls and drinks to tourists in the heart of Fisherman's Wharf. We enjoyed margaritas and bloody marys while relaxing after a long walk through the city. Efficient service, solid product ... an easy choice.

Honestly, I only opted to eat here because it is casual and I wasn't dressed well enough for Alioto's, but WOW! The crab chowder (yes, CRAB!) was wonderful. I'm only sad I didn't discover this place until the last day I was in SF.

We got there during happy houers and was pleased with the fact that some drinks and beers are for 5$. Food was good too ! Service really nice !

It's in the touristy area of fisherman's wharf but whenever I come to San Francisco this is where I go for my chowder. It's like any city you've been to there's always a special place to have one of the local specialty and that's the place for me.

We came here for dinner and to watch a football game. The fish and chips were excellent! Fresh, moist fish and crisp batter, not soggy. The only negative was the small piece of plastic in my fish but they took care of me. It happens. Most places along the wharf are around $18-$20 for sit down fish and chips but the prices here were much more reasonable and we got to stay warm and sit down. We also had the chowder bowl and enjoyed that too. The place was well heated, casual, and comfortable. Service was friendly and very good.

Loved the experience of this place , food was lovely, even though it’s famous for chowder I had a burger and it was fantastic Glad I seen it on out first day , will definitely be back Top class food

One of the best IF not the best in Fisherman’s warf! The clam choices tasted perfect, full of clams and creamy. The bread was also perfect, didn’t get soggy and tasted delicious. I have to say I ate the entire clam chowder AND the bread too. Just perfect. The owner was working and was perfectly welcoming.

Fish was outstanding, very little breading and all fish which I prefer. Good shoestring fries. Shrimp good, and chowder very good in a Boudin bread bowl. Great views for people watching as the enclosure around the restaurant is glass. We had very attentive service from the full service side.

The crab chowder and claim chowder in bread bowls are to die for. There is a great combination of seafood and burgers for everyone. The service is friendly and fast enough considering the crowds of Fisherman's Wharf.

Ok but nothing special. We had several chowders and this wasn't the best or the worst. Interesting place.

The food was good and the service was fast. Seating is only outside. Try the Crab Chowder or Calamari. Only public bathrooms which were disgusting

If you don't want to wait on long lines at the restaurants, try the Chowder Hut. I believe it's associated with Boudin Restaurants, because the chowder tastes just as good. You can also get chowder in a sour dough bowl, like you can at all the waterfront kiosks. Chowder Hut also has very good tuna sandwiches and soups.

Try the calamari and clam chowder. They're pretty good. If you have children that aren't fans, there are burger, fries, and hot dogs. Standard fare for younger folks. Reasonably priced with plenty of seating for relaxing one's feet.

We were in San Francisco for 2 days and we ate here two times. So delicious. Had the chowder bowl, garlic fries, and Shrimp cocktail. My son had a hamburger once and chicken strips the second go round. Loved all of it. It was crowded but pretty quick. The atmosphere on the pier is unique and fun. Price wise it was a better deal than other places on the pier.

We really enjoyed this place - we grabbed a bucket of Coronas and fish and chips. The food was good and the beer cold. It is a casual place with only outdoor seating - they do have a couple of fire pits and a few covered tables. The price was reasonable - good spot for a quick meal.

Stopped for a lunch while out sightseeing. Ok meal. Wife had a clam chowder bowl. Good flavour and ample amount of clams. The bread bowl was excessive. I order the crispy fish sandwich and fries. It was ok.

We were looking for somewhere light to lunch. Chowder Hut sits there off of Fishermans Wharf on its own. We weren't sure of seating arrangements when we first arrived (which tables were served and which were self-service) but waiter noticed quickly and helped us out. We had fish and chips and a crab sandwich with a couple of beers. Food was average to good in truth but marked up because of good service and reasonable prices. We got what we wanted for a lunchtime.

We both had fish and chips and we really liked the food! It was an amazing spot with even a little view

This is why you come to fisherman's wharf. Nice outside area and with the glass it's out of the wind on all those cold days.

Their original clam chowder is delicious. We also enjoyed their grilled fish taco and fried shrimp. Prices are super reasonable for the freshness of the food. Good customer services( José Luis) even brought jalapeños and limes when requested.

Wish we would have tried this when we arrived a week ago! Very tasty app’s and dinner. Solid service and the most reasonably priced meal to date. We are going back tomorrow.

Went there for dinner. There are fires burning which provided a romantic atmosphere. The disappointment was in the food and drink. We ordered two Mojito which came out in plastic cups and a pound of grilled shrimp. The shrimp was average and we didn't finish the Mojito. The price was average. Overall, a little bit of a disappointment.

We were looking for a quick sit down lunch before our Alcatraz tour on the Wharf. This place had a nice crowd and the menu was simple and less expensive than any other nearby restaurant. Most of the seating is outside but there were heaters and fire pits to make it comfortable on the chilly day we were there. Menu is mostly fried seafood, chowders and sandwiches. Our three some had the crab chowder in sourdough bowl (excellent) and the crab melt sandwich on sourdough (also good). Prices are reasonable but this is a no frills joint. Service was friendly and fast.

We really enjoyed our meals here. It's located right on fisherman's wharf. The drinks were fun and the food was really good. The best part was the location to sit, relax and watch everything happening.

This restaurant has horrible seating and staff. There food is mediocre at best and there are two areas. One for customers who sit down and order and on for customers who order from the takeout window. This makes the seating horrible along with the uncomfortable seats. As a paying customer I tried to sit down and a waiter kicked me out saying it wasn't allowed to sit in the full service area and was very rude about it. Lastly, I was with a large group of people and the woman at the counter refused to take our orders with sodas so we needed to order twice.

For decades I have been a fan of walk away seafood cocktails on Taylor St in Fishermans Warf. It was a binary choice: get a tasty seafood snack in your hand or head up to one of the restaurants and shell up serious bucks for a sit down meal with a view. I have enjoyed both, but on a recent visit one of my guest was taken aback by the outdoor food service and not being able to sit down, although no one wanted to big meal. The Chowder Hut Grill to the rescue. You can get all the popular dishes (crab or shrimp cocktails or sandwiches and clam chowder bread bowl) but there is seating behind a windscreen and an indoor kitchen. Service was very good and friendly, and the food was a good representation of this style. So, you get your fast seafood at a reasonable price and a sit down table in the heart of Fisherman's Warf. They also have the walk away option.

We took time out for a late lunch after walking around for hours. The chowder was delicious but the people watching was great. Yes it's touristy but that's part of the fun and I would go back again!!

Stopped in for a quick bite on our way for a tour, good quick eats and fast. Dessert was delicious as well.

Nice spot for lunch that offers outside seating only. We had fish tacos, crab salad and clam chowder in a bread bowl.....everyone was happy with their choices. Service was efficient.

We only had 30 minutes for lunch before catching a guided tour. It’s not much to look at, it’s near parking, busy area. It was a windy cool day and there are no tables inside. Seating is outdoors but they do have heaters which helped. Perfect food for weather like this is a warm chowder in a sourdough bowl. It was delicious - could have had more chowder though. We also had calamari which was fresh and hotdogs for the kids. It was nicely grilled. I wish we had the crab too! Definitely on the next visit. This is a good place to have a quick bite.

We had the crab sandwiches. The crab melt was hot and we liked it, but the cold one was much better than expected. The crowds are still there even during this crazy world.

One of our must stops on the Hop on Hop Off bus was fisherman’s wharf of course. All of us have been here before and it was a must return on our Foodie Day! Orders came quickly and sipping ice cold beers and a bloody mary we tucked into Crab Chowder, Fish Tacos and Fresh Crab sandwiches while we planned the rest of our day. I know we ordered entree style dishes but today was designed to be a foodie day so we had to take each stop easy… there was china town, little italy finished with Gelato and espresso to go yet!! A tip for Chowder house… if you want a cocktail choose a table on that side of the building because while we were able to order beers and our food together I had to walk around the outside of the building order, pick up and walk back with the cocktail. But back to business…. The chowder was rich and creamy and the bread so good I managed to use it all breaking down the soup soaked roll and licking my fingers! The crab sandwich was fresh and light with a smooth aioli …just perfect. The fish tacos were recommended to us and didn't disappoint, served with a squeeze of lemon and crispy white fish in light corn tacos.

Just wanted a light lunch and a beer. The perfect venue. Had a Blue Moon and a Crab Chowder in a Boudin shower dough. Great staff and great food.

This is a glorified tacky fast food place. Ordered chicken strips as an appetiser and fish & chips. The appetiser and main course were served together ie. at the same time. Both dishes were served up rectangular thin cardboard trays. Cheap plastic knives and forks. Difficult to distinguish between chicken strips and fish cooked identically. Wine was served in a cheap plastic cup as well as beer. —I thought it was like a pop festival in a field and not near the pier in Sanfrancisco . No Rose’ wine. First choice of beer unavailable. The floor consisted of large concrete slabs with litter across the floor -I have been in better toilets/restrooms than this establishment. -/disgusting! Cheap and nasty looking chairs and tables. Glass panels around the building needed cleaning. Overall experience abysmal Cost 82 dollars and a grudging tip too for this. I have travelled to many places in the world but this was by far the worst-/.the owner should be ashamed. Would never go back again.

Central location and a fun menu. They have all the classics: calamari. Shrimp fish. The best was the crab melt! A bountiful amount of crab for 9.95!
Good
We had order of fish and chips, crab sandwich, hot dog and clam chowder. Crab sandwich was good. No pieces of shell, not overly mayo and fresh bread. Chowder was hit and seasoned well. Hit dog was actually really good. Great relish. Fresh. We ordered the fish and chips to compare with the close by CodMother. We liked CodMother better due to the crispy batter. It was a little thicker there. But this was good. Very good. Nice clean seating in the sunshine or shade too.
