If what you are looking for is a classic Philly Cheese Steak then this is the place. The service is great and the food is wonderful. Much better than Dalesandro's across the street.

Another Great Steak & Hoagie place with a full " Bar " , you can eat at the bar or at the booths in the back . It does offer off street parking !!!!!! They also have a 1/4 lbs Beef Burger that is cooked to order on the Grill , it may take 20 mins to cook , but its worth it !!!!!!!!!!!

Great food great service. We ended up here by mistake. We were going to delassandros across the street they had no restrooms. So we ventured across the street instead. We are glad we did. Cheese Steaks were great fries and onion rings were crisp and hot. Since we are from out of town our waitress fielded our questions about food and tourist activities with ease. I’m not from the area but its probably the best cheese steak I’ve ever had.

Four friends and I were entertaining two visiting Canadians. We had taken then to most of the requisite tourists spots: South Philly, the Italian Market, the Art Museum and the River Drives. One of the Canadians requested a Philly cheese-steak and since we were in the area one of our friends said there were two places nearby: Chubby's and Delasandro's. It was a blistering hot day and we had been riding motorcycles, so I asked which one had air conditioning. It was Chubby's. That's where the good news ended for me. I had a chicken cheese-steak, and it was almost as dry as our waitress! I ate some of my friend's french fries and they were under cooked. If I'm in the area again, I'm going across the street to Delasandro's.

Don't waste your time across the road at Dalessandro's. It's all hype. We got 4 steaks at Dalessandro's because that's where everyone recommended, and we ended up throwing them away and ordering at Chubby's. Chubby's is a nicer place, they take cards, they have indoor and outdoor seating, and most importantly: the steaks are so much better than Dalessandro's. The steak is nicely seasoned and not too finely chopped, good quality meat. The roll was good quality, has a nice chew and holds together nicely. Staff was super nice as well. Skip the line and go to Chubby's, you won't regret it.

I had an awesome burger and got a frisbee to boot! Great local place to get yummy burgers and cheese steaks.

Chubby's is across the street from the more well known, more popular, Dalessandros. I would highly recommend Chubby's hand-over-fist versus their cross-street competitor. Chubby's is more spacious, better priced, they take cards, the staff is better at their jobs (more professional & polite), and the steak is about on par with Dalessandros.

Believe it, this is the steak you want to eat. Get the pizza steak with provalone and mushrooms, you will be glad you did. Take an extra dose of your statin and you'll be fine.

I see why the line is always across the street and Chubby’s is dead. The steaks were dry and the cheese was tasteless. Not too greasy though....probably why no taste!

This is where you want to go if you want to experience a local cheesesteak shop. It’s very small inside so don’t expect always get a Seat and the parking lot can only accommodate about nine cars. They have some of the best cheese fries in Philadelphia so I definitely recommend splitting those with a friend. They have cheesesteaks among other sandwiches on the menu but most people come here to get a cheesesteak. The place can get really crowded on the weekends or before and Eagles football game. They put a fork in the cheesesteak as their symbol so don’t be surprised if you see a lot of people eating a cheesesteak with a fork. They do takeout orders as well

In Philadelphia for some college visits and in the mood for a good cheesesteak. Glad we were directed to Chubbys. Steak was lean, bread was fresh, and the Whiz was....well, it was Whiz. Prices are cheap for bear and soda and the pickle/pepper fixings bar was a nice extra. Atmosphere is adequate, but you didn't come here for that anyway. The staff was also friendly, despite being a busy place. Definitely worth a visit and we'll be back!!!!

I was in Philly for the weekend and I wanted to try what this city was known for which was their cheese steaks. A local recommended chubbys. A small diner atmosphere self seating and had a decent amount of people in there. I had a cheese steak with green peppers, onions , and several other toppings. It tasted ok Sad to say , if this is how the award winning Philly cheese is suppose to taste then it was ok. The best Cheese steak that I tasted was in Boston at a sub shop called Ugis .How weird is that .

Stopped by for cheesesteaks. They were delicious but greasy, but I never had one that wasn't. Waited a few minutes before initially served, but everything was quick after that.

It still mystifies me how Pat's and Geno's are so well known, but superior places, like Chubby's (and Alessandro's, directly across the street from it) seem not to be on enough radar screens. I happen to prefer Chubby's to its across the street competitor's cheesesteaks -- and even confirmed that preference with a blind tasting -- but both are worth sampling. (I'm certainly not the only one who prefers the former; you can use Google to find a comparison review in Philadelphia Magazine, reaching the same conclusion.) Freshly prepared, without an unreasonable wait (unless you catch them during a rush period).

Some may prefer Dalessandro's (literally across the street), but I swear I can divine a difference between their two cheesesteaks, and I definitely give the nod to Chubby's. If you're anywhere near the neighborhood, it's worth stopping in. (And by all means don't waste your time and money on the tourist traps Geno's or Pat's.)

Get the mushroom cheese steak with fried onions and sauce. It's a classic. The place is busy all day long with locals, not tourists. And that should tell you all you need to know. This is authentic stuff. They have lots of kinds of pickles and various varieties of peppers from red hot to mild.

Was in Philly for a wedding with several people who have never had a legit cheesesteak before. I lived in West Philly for 3 years, and was tasked on finding a place near the hotel. Read the reviews and Chubby's did not disappoint. Food was excellent. The key to the cheesesteak is the bread and cheese, and they have it "spot on". Fairly quick service. Nothing to complain about at all.

I tried here for a cheesesteak after reading some good reviews. It provides a good option for a sandwich where you don't have to wait in a long line and can pay with options other than cash. I got my cheesesteak with the usual toppings - whiz and onions - and it was really good. I would have put just a touch more whiz on it, but it was good. The bread was very soft and the sandwich was big, as you would expect around here! Their menu has sides, which is a nice alternative to other places where your choices are limited beyond the sandwich. This is a great option to grab something and go or eat inside. It is also a great alternative to spending about twice the amount of time in line.

I enjoyed the local atmosphere of this restaurant but to be honest cheesesteaks and hoagies just aren't my thing. The chicken was pretty tasty but it was just pretty plain to me. I liked the fries but the best part was the Hank's wild cherry soda. My friends seemed to really enjoy their sandwiches so I guess it is recommended but next time I am in Philadelphia I want to find something else to eat.😊

This place has really gone down hill. It used to be a staple for me back in the day, but the quality of their cheesesteaks has plummeted. The meat was dry, the bread was soggy, they just melted two pieces of american cheese on top of it -- didn't mix it in or place on the bread first, which is how it should be done. The onions were not chopped well, were slimy, and had a gross, greasy flavor. The service was also pretty bad -- no one paid attention to us even though the place was mostly empty. The only upside was that the fries were good.

Our Manayunk friends clued is to Chubbys years ago and we have been road tripping there ever since. Especially love the chicken cheese steaks - juicy and delicious. Next time you think of going to the competition across the street, give the Chubbys a try. Neighborhood friendly, fast and no attitude (like you know who).

The Philly cheesesteak I had with cheese whiz and American cheese and I added hot cherry peppers. The cheese was melted throughout and the bread was very fresh and the fries were perfect. The beer was cold and cheap. And the service was fantastic. We can't wait to go back!

Not the best, but really good. Friendly service. Good beer selection. Off street parking. Better than the alternative across the street.

I wanted a cheesesteak, so I headed here. Full disclosure, I really came here because they take credit cards. I've been here before to get just fries and onion rings (both quite delicious), but I stopped in yesterday for a cheese steak. Mushroom, whiz, with onions. YUM! It had good flavor, and the cheese wasn't runny like you get in some places. I would definitely return for a cheesesteak.

good size cheese steak place is a bit small service is fast and fries hot and yummy. Small parking lot

Today I paid a visit to Chubby's. I hadn't been in years and now I remember why. I order the pulled pork sandwich and was very disappointed. There was more bread than meat and for 13 bucks I swear they owe me some change. I see why there is always a line at Dalessandros

We were at Chubby's at 7:30 PM on a Tuesday. The cheesesteaks and fries my wife and I ordered tasted good but probably weren't the best we've ever had. Although the interior of the restaurant was small it was nice to have a booth to sit in with our two children. But my wife and I were both severely sick to the stomach 45 minutes after we left. Our 4 year old who had the chicken fingers was fine. We're chalking it up to food poisoning and don't plan to go back.

Not in a tourist area so you have to go out of the way to get there. One of many very good neighborhood steak places in Philly. Made just as it should be. Only six booths and about 20 counter seats so when busy it's hard to get a seat.

Great cheesesteaks! They have a pickle/pepper side bar, counter seats with beer and liquor. My usual: cheesesteak, fried onions, sometimes mayo, and a Hank's vanilla cream or root beer! The service is what it is, everyone has always been polite. Bathrooms are clean!

My husband and I frequent Philadelphia often and to date our favorite cheesesteak place has been Dalessandro’s. We have tried a few other places but are usually disappointed. Chubby’s is located across the street from Dalessandro’s and is the first place we have tried that rivals Dalessandro’s cheesesteaks. I ordered a chicken cheesesteak and my husband ordered a traditional cheesesteak; they were both delicious! As a bonus, Chubby’s also has free parking, bathrooms and Wi-Fi for customers. I would definitely recommend giving Chubby’s a try! (Now we have two favorite cheesesteak places!)

Chubby’s isn’t a tourist trap. It’s on the outskirts of the city off the beat & path. Nice size steak sandwich perfectly cooked. If you’re going down Henry Ave, stop in for a taste of Philly.

First vacation To Philly and we were in Seaech of a good cheese steak diner. Chubby's delivered. Cooked to order Exactly how you order (thats important)! Those ladies know what they are doing! Fresh comdiments, good beer and coctail selection...all in one place. Doesnt look like from the outside...but looks are deceiving. Definitely worth the repeat visit.

This is one of the best cheesteaks joints in Philadelphia. They are packed on and served in a good fresh roll. The service is very friendly. Simply put, Chubby's is much better than the better known place across the street.

Steak sandwich was very good, a little wet but great taste. The service was awesome for a busy Friday. Worth a try if you are in the area.

We went here because D’Alessandro’s was too crowded, which is a shame because Chubby’s deserves so much more than another restaurant’s sloppy seconds. When we walked we were greeted with a casual, friendly atmosphere that one would expect from one of the guardians of a local tradition such as the cheese steak. Seating is not too plentiful, but there is a large park just across the road. The food, however, is the reason I am leaving this review. I have heard that a good cheesesteak starts with the bread, and apparently the people at Chubby’s have heard this as well. Rather than contrasting with the soft contents of the sandwich, like so many lesser rolls do, these rolls come right apart in your mouth with the slightest tug. They still maintain their firmness, however, as if they only come apart when you want. The steak and cheese complement the roll perfectly and create the quintessential Philly cheesesteak experience. I would absolutely recommend this place and I intend on returning

We went out to grab lunch after helping my daughter putting her new couch together. This is my second time visiting this place. I had the Cheesesteak with cheese wiz, it was messy but good. My daughter had the Cheesesteak hoagie she liked it and saved half for later. My son had a toasted cheese sandwich and my wife a BLT they both liked these food. The last time we were here we had cheese fries, very good. We hope to visit again in the future.

Modest looking fast food joint from the outside, but inside - oh such good cheesesteaks; moist succulent beef without being greasy, onions, mushrooms, choice of cheese. And a cold cabinet packed with interesting beers. We picked Commodore Perry IPA.

We drove originally to grab something from Dalessandro's but they were unfortunately closed that day. So we went next door - free easy parking, nice people, quick service... but the food was such a disappointment. What happened!? There was practically ZERO cheese in our cheesesteak.. I've never seen such a thing in my life.. Baffled, never again.

We visited on a business trip. I would say I’ve had worse but I’ve definitely had better. The meat was quite dry and lacking flavor. There are much better cheesesteaks around the city and across the sternest for the same price

The cheesesteak was really good along with curly fries dipped in red wine vinegar on the side. The decor is classic old school with booths and long counter with stools.

I prefer this place over Dellassandro’s just across the street...better ambiance. The food is great and so is the beer. Free parking in lot or (harder to find) on the street.

I haven't been to Chubby's since the mid-90's. But, I remember having a decent meal every time I ate there. Good cheesesteaks.

Our first attempt at finding the best cheesesteak with onions & peppers in Philly. All in all a good try but fell short of being the best for the family. I did like the roll alot & the steak was chopped pretty fine with good portion. No gristle or striginess. Not much for seating or location next to the gas station.

This is where Philadelphians get their cheesesteaks. They are juicy and delicious. They serve beer and have booths for seating. Check out their pepper bar and condiments to add to your steak. Service is efficient. They have a small parking lot and on street parking.

Was deciding betw here and Dallesandro's and came here when we saw the long line outside its competitor across the street. Enjoyed the authenticity of the joint as we ordered take-out. Maybe it's just me, but I'm usually disappointed with cheesesteaks and this was no exception: Good bread but kind of tasteless meat without enough cheese.

Chubby's is one of the better "fast food" places in the area, ESPECIALLY after a night of drinking! From cheesteaks to hoagies to chicken snadwiches, as well as appetizers, the food is always plentiful and delicious. Diner style booth seating, as well as a full bar for the occasional drink. The service is friendly and fast. Smaller parking lot is usually the only issue here. The food is great, and REALLY hits the spot at 2 am after the bar!. Give it a try and you won;t be disappointed.

Stopped by on a Wed night . Always seems busy. Ordered a Cheesesteak with and provolone and schrooms. Good size Perfect roll good flavor. Seating available inside.

We usually go across the street but were in the mood to sit down and have fries. Not quite as good but a better overall sit down experience.

The steaks sandwiches were a good size, the fries were also cooked perfectly. I occasionally eat there when I am in the area and it has been consistent

In town for the DNC. Stopped by for some Cheese steaks. We ordered the sandwich with fries and drink $14.00 or so. Food was great nice small place easy to get to. If you are ever in town look this place up. Parking on the side (Which is hard to find in this area) Everything on the menu looks good. This is the real deal for cheese steaks

I occasionally try chubby's whenever I am depressed and want to have some food therapy. It never disappoints. I always try the cheesesteak, with cheese fries. The meat melts in the mouth instantly and it has a delightful feeling. They also have a large cold beer list and you can also buy take-out six packs from them. The staff are authentically friendly, and they are open till midnight. You can place your order over the phone as well. No delivery tho. They accept credit cards and cash.

Great food, excellent service and wonderful lunch vibe! Found this wonderful place after seeing the other place across the the was closed vacation. I was looking for a classic Philly sandwich and got it. So glad I ordered it wit sharp provolone.

Stopped here for lunch with my daughter and her friend. They were busy, good service, great cheesesteaks and good prices. We'll Definately be back.

Great cheesesteak - different from D'Alessandro's - the onions are caramelized and add great flavor. Some would say better than D'Alessandro's. A matter of taste. Both are excellent

Chubby's was a great cheese steak. When in Philly I had to eat cheese steaks from at least 2 different places. Which I did. I bought a t-shirt from Chubby's because it was reasonably priced. I love the way they wrapped it up like a cheese steak sandwich. I appreciate it when businesses sell thier t-shirts at their cost instead of trying to make a huge profit. After all when I'm wearing it. I'm advertising for them. I would be okay if they paid me and cheesesteaks . Thank You Chubby's for the cheesesteak experience.

Visiting family for one day and were looking for a lunch spot to get my cheesesteak fix taken care of. Intending to go to one place but found it too crowded. Chubby’s was across the street so jaywalked we did. It was a god decision. Cheesesteak with my choice of cheese and added onions on a warm soft bun satisfied my hankering. Local family members were happy with the choice and look forward to returning. Staff friendly and attentive. Small but inviting atmosphere.

This restaurant has cheesesteak sandwiches that are better than the tourist attraction across the street. The staff is friendly and the service is quick!

We came from Washington to a family wedding nearby. We told our local relatives that we wanted to go out the next day to get cheesesteaks Geno's and Pat's. They said those were just tourist traps now and Chubby's had the best cheesesteaks. We wound up going at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, with at least one relative who probably should have stayed home in bed after the late night. I'm not an expert in authentic Philly cheesesteaks, but what I had -- a cheesesteak with whiz and onions -- was really great. I actually ordered the whiz on the side and provolone on the sandwich, but used all of the whiz on it. That flame orange, goopy stuff is the difference between a cheesesteak and an ordinary steak and cheese. The pepper bar was great -- especially the "Oil Peppers" which added a lot of flavor.

more room and has restrooms which the more famous d'ellasandros across the street does not and easy parking. very good French fries terrific cheesesteak with south philly style pickle/pepper bar serves alcohol

As good as Dalessandro's, just not all the hype, and not nearly as busy. Still a surprisingly long wait for a sandwich.

Clean place with friendly staff. They have high chairs so that’s good for those who need it. Food came out hot which is a major plus for me. I really liked the bread. Also thought it was a big cheesesteak especially for the price. Overall it was good. I thought the flavoring was slightly uneven for example some spots you could see and taste the cheese other bites were dry. The meat is very thin. The meat is piled high. The fries were done right curly fries good but nothing special.

We stopped by here after my daughter interviewed for Jefferson/Philadelphia University Physician Assistant program. We shared a Cheesesteak (with provolone) and cheese fries (with wiz). The cheesesteak is big enough for two. My only complaint was it didn’t come with peppers and onions (extra charge). But both the cheesesteak and fries were filling and tasty.

Great service! They did not make my steaks the way we asked tonight 1/5/16 and the meat was very tough. There steaks are usually juicy and delicious. The foil paper that held the sandwiches fell apart. I feel like we wasted our $36.00. I am very unhappy because my son really wanted a great cheesesteak tonight.

Ok. Chubby's. If you're looking for a polished, date night restaurant, Chubby's is not your place. But if you want a cheesesteak that is good, large, and fast, late night after you go to the bar or work 2nd shift, or are just in the neighborhood, Chubby's is your place. I go to Chubby's after work. They are on Henry Ave on the way home from work. Chubby's reminds me of typical Phila steak joints, although not located in a typical Phila neighborhood (Center City or South Phila for example). They have a menu that consists of grille food (burgers, steaks, fries). And beer and soda. Nothing crazy but what you want late at night while in Phila. They have little cups of pickles, hot peppers and such that you expect with your cheese steak on the side. The reason I am writing this recommendation is last night they kept the grill open (after closing time) for me after I got done work and I am appreciative. Thanks! My recommendations, go for a good fast cheese steak. If you expect more this isn't the place to go.

My second choice for neighborhood cheese Steaks. They do take credit cards and sell fries as well, Steaks are not quite as good as others in the neighborhood, but I have never been disappointed with the food or service. They also have much more seating compared to others in the neighborhood.

The highlight of this place is the fact that there's parking! We were in town looking for a Philly spot and were directed to the apparently very popular Dalessandro's across the street but the entire street was lined with cars and it was raining so we settled for Chubbys. It wasn't bad. There's counter and booth seating. Food came out pretty quickly but wasn't what I expected in terms of flavor.

My daughter and I always try a new steak sandwich at a different shop each time we are in town. We went home with 2 different ones this trip, since Dalessandro's was across the street. I like the fact that Chubby's also offers fries, which were really good! They also have a parking lot. The steak sandwich was good and comparable to Dalessandro's.

Great service, as soon as we sat down the waitress was there to answer any questions about the menu. There were 4 in our party, we ordered our sandwiches and drinks and didn't wait very long. The cheese steaks were excellent, Each of us got something different and they were all good. The onion rings were very good and the dipping sauce is excellent. The cheese streaks were so good I went back the next day. If you leave here hungry its your own fault.

If the lack of parking, overcrowded entrance, no clear way to get lunch is your thing, then this is your place for lunch. I was excited to have lunch here but burned 30 minutes trying to park and stand in line at the door and get to order food so I gave up and went to another place for food. I overheard nothing but complaints about the line and lack of seating and ordering process while standing there, so if this business wants to be successful they need to figure out how to attend to those waiting for service or that money walks.

Don't get fooled by the long line at Dalessandro's: that place is a tourist trap with awful steaks. You're much better off grabbing a cheesesteak here: cards taken, indoor seating, and most importantly, an actually good cheesesteak. Quality meat, good cheese selection, and bread that actually handles the fillings. You will not regret skipping the ridiculous line and eating here instead.

My husband wanted a cheese steak on returning home from a New Year's Weekend Getaway. His place of choice is Chubby's. The parking lot was full of cars so my first thought was that the restaurant would be SRO. To our surprise, there was counter space available where we sat until a booth became available. My husband ordered a mushroom cheese steak and I ordered a chicken cheese steak hoagie. My husband's order was good. I received a chicken cheese steak, not a hoagie. However, after bringing it to the server's attention, the side of mayo, tomatoes, and lettuce arrived in time for me to add to the sandwich. Usually I eat half of the sandwich but it was just "umm, umm good!" I ate it all and enjoyed every morsel!!

We flew in on business and went 30 minutes out of our way to get a cheesesteak. Definitely worth the extra hour of travel time to get this food. I had a cheesesteak with american and cheese whiz it was unbelievable! Highly recommend this place when visiting Philly and want a great authentic cheesesteak!

You won't leave hungry, that's for sure. The $9 cheesesteak is about a foot long, and absolutely stuffed with delicious chopped steak. I had mine with provalone and grilled onions, but stuff yours with any of the large variety. Service is prompt and and friendly at this small, modest spot. Parking is a bit tight. They also have a nice selection of draft/craft and bottled beers

The waitress was great! She told us about the town and about how to get the steaks. I had mine with wiz and a fried poppers on the side. The workers hung out with us since it was slow on this night, they were very friendly! Did I mention the pickles, they were amazing!

Across the street is marginally better sandwich. But it's crowded, and loud. Chubby's has good AC, real waitresses, a full bar, if you have to have liquor, and comfortable booths. Chubby's wins on points.

These are awesome cheesesteaks, but Dalessandros is a little better. Chubby's is yummy and does do sides like fries, which Dalessadros won't. ( for those who don't know, these shops are right across the street from each other). This is a tried and true excellent version of the best sandwich you will ever eat. Treat yourself!

When it comes to looking for the best cheesesteak in Philly, make sure to add this one to the list. The chopped steak and cheese consistency is very good and unlike some other places nearby, the cheese and meat fills the roll from end to end. The inside of the diner is very tight, but don't let this stop you from treating yourself to some great food. For those who aren't a big fan of cheesesteaks, make sure to order yourself some fries smothered in some cheesey goodness.

Being across the street from the best place in the city makes it a tough sell. Good sandwich and available immediately versus the 45 minutes it took across the street, would probably come back here in the future for a decent sandwich quickly......

Overall a good cheesesteak hoagie.. They stuff the roll with tons of steak and onions! Plenty of seating at the counter or booths. Parking lot holds about 12 - 15 cars. They also serve beer and can make you a cocktail or a nice drink. No coke for the Captain ( they have Pepsi products) - my girlfriend was a little upset. The hoagie is a step up from Geno's and Pat's and even better than Tony Luke's.. But sorry to say my favorite is Jim's on South Street. My # 2 favorite hoagie is across the street at DAlessandro's.. 👍👍

This place has the best cheesesteaks in philly. The only thing I would recommend would be not to get extra cheeese that was too much. It is small and parking is limited. I did not like the fact that the boths were right next to the restrooms. The service sucked so when I go back I will get it to go.

Thi$ place has the best texture you'll find in a cheesesteak. The meat is chunky but they aren't big chunks, just right for chewing. This is a very good cheesesteak and better than the crowded Dalessandro's across the street whose meat is finely chopped and needs seasoning.

Chubby's is the kind of place that invites fond memories of a time gone by. They have outstanding cheese steaks and other Philly favorites without any fancy trappings or extravagant prices. You can sit at the counter or in the booths and savor the quaint atmosphere while enjoying a good local beer (try Yuengling Lager). The wait staff will make you feel special and attend to your every need without bothering you. It's definitely not a tourist trap and may be a challenge to find but worth the effort.
The place has great steak sandwiches
I sat at the counter and got great service. They have beer on tap. The sandwich was packed with meat..a real plus. The place is clean even the mens room is real clean. This place has parking and a real plus for a place like this. If you you will like it here. Jerry ehrlich from the great city of philadelphia
