Good Mexican food

By Joel M |

Fantastic food. Outstanding service. Enchiladas, salsa and chips and burritos were amazing. Nice job.

Great food and atmosphere

By Stiglitz11 |

In times when noise and crowds are extensive this place stands out as a nation of sensibility. The food is not really Mexican but it has its own place in the pantheon of food and is great. The staff make it a good palce to go. Breakfast is my favorite.

Good value

By Sammie-Jo69 |

Hugely busy venue so a wait is almost guaranteed but it won't be long given the turnover of covers. Menu is typical Tex-Mex with anything from burritos and bowls to fajitas. Quality was nothing special but very reasonable price.

Great Service, Very Good Food and Fun Ambiance

By bprsurf |

One of the most unique chain restaurants you'll come across. Decorated with a sense of humor you'll love the unique ambiance at each. Also, food is consistently very good chain wide. Folks averse to spicy food let your waiter/waitress know. We got the Cup of Tortilla soup ($4.59) and #1 Comida ($11.29). Both were very good. Service was excellent. We'd definitely return.

Negative and bland experience.

By Justin C |

Very bad food for Austin's standards. Great for Iowa's standards. Ordered carry out on 5/3 lunch time. Lady was really rude and negative. Got the order wrong -- gave me double rice instead of rice and beans. Wouldn't correct the order. complained when i didn't tip on carry out for a wrong order.

If you like the chain, visit the original!

By Aggiedirtdoc |

If you like the chain for their authentic Tex-Mex and great service, be sure to visit the original one in Austin. You'll see the "Keep Austin Weird" perspective in their decor, and taste some great food served by great people..

We always come here when we visit

By Ruth R |

What a fun place to eat. There are decorations everywhere. They often have long waits so it is good to go at a less popular time. If you don't mind the wait, They have free chips and salsa and a cute bar. The food is of good quality and variety. I get the Elvis special and have three meals. Highly recommended.

The best TexMex I've had

By LoveTravel753153 |

As a native Southern Californian and a frequent traveler to Mexico, I'm not usually a fan of TexMex or any overly americanized Mexican food. With that said, Chuy's is probably the best TexMex I've had. I enjoyed the quirky and colorful decor, their queso dip is is one of the best I've ever had, and the service is spectacular - especially considering the huge crowds Chuy's draws. . My fiance and I each had the cheese and onion enchiladas, which I guess are also a "TexMex" dish. They were pretty darn good. I feel this place is a must if you're in Austin

The Original

By Brad B |

After learning that Chuy's has spread all over the United States, it makes me glad to be able to come to the original. Food quality is consistent across the US, but there's still something special about eating at an Austin location. The queso is top 3 in town, up there with Kerbey Lane and Torchy's!

Wish we lived here to visit weekly!

By Tarry L |

The queso is a meal unto itself. The tortilla’s are handmade and delicious! The chuychanga was crispy and with the boom-boom sauce made for a fantastic meal. Highly recommend! Food is superb. Service is friendly and attentive.

Chicks chicka boom boom

By Vish_the_traveller |

Excellent service and food. The chicka chicka boom boom was fantastic. The service was excellent and layout was great. The food is fairly priced. Also try the fajita tacos if you can . Can't wait to go back.

Forgot how much fun Chuy's is

By Henry A |

We hadn't been here for our past few visits to Austin, so we figured it was time to drop by again. The wait on a Saturday night wasn't too long, as we relaxed in the bar with some drinks before dinner. Dinner was great. It was hard to pick what to eat. We liked the whole menu.

Definitely a place to eat

By Safetydude_Canada |

Definitely the place that locals love. Two different groups of people told us of this place. Was worth the drive. Lots off good food at a very reasonable price. For big eaters get the Elvis memorial dish, enough food for 2, but couldn't stop eating. Service was fast and very friendly

Celebrate after football game

By Kelly S |

The food is always wonderful We only had 24 minutes before closing but the staff was accommodating and friendly. We offered to hurry eat and pay but they wouldn’t hear of it . Our waiter was fantastic and the wholes staff made sure we did not feel rushed.

Oh the yummy food

By leahlo91017 |

We are visiting from Oregon and on the flight we sat next to a gentleman named Ryan who was from cedar park Texas, he told us to try chuy’s. Great idea!! Food, service and drinks awesome!! Price was also a pleasant surprise. Will go again next time we come back to Texas.

Good Food, Good Service, Original Chuy's Location

By dctravel |

My family loves Chuy's, so when my son found out that the original was in Austin, we had to visit on our recent trip. While it is physically close to downtown (just across the river), it took forever to get there in rush hour traffic. As with other Chuy's the decor is kitchy (in a good way). We were seated quickly and our orders were also taken quickly. Because we were there during Happy Hour, there is a free nacho bar in addition to the chips they bring to your table. We found the food to be very good (if not the same as other Chuy's locations). I have never had a disappointing meal at Chuy's, and this lived up to its reputation!

If they are short on staff, number of clients should be limited

By Atef Z |

Service was slow, food cold, original booking lost because number was not transcribed correctly. Obviously short on staff for the number of clients allowed in

Have the Original Swirl at the Original!

By DaisyF0717 |

As longtime Texans (but not from Austin), we enjoy eating at Chuy's often and have in several different cities... so when we found ourself in Austin, we had to head to their Barton Spring "original" location. Happy Hour during the week (4 to 7) can't be beat... complimentary nacho bar (queso, refried beans, taco meat, chips), great drink specials (margaritas are $5 - including their famous swirls (strawberry/lime)), and they have some decent appetizers you can order as well in the bar, however nacho bar is available to all patrons, even those having dinner. Food was great, atmosphere is fun, service was good as well!

The Original mother of all Chuy’s restaurants

By Brent H |

This restaurant is the one that was the beginning of all other Chuy’s Restaurants. It is unique and has a cultural feeling that is all its own. The device is excellent and I believe it’s food is better than all the other Chuy’s that I have eaten at: which are many. That is not to say that the other Chuy’s are not great. Everyone has always been good when I have eaten there. As they say, ‘if you have seen one Chuy’s, you have seen one Chuy’s.’ Each one is unique, but the menu and food is always consistently great. I especially enjoy the chicken and cheese Chile rellenos with Hatch green chili.

LOVE THIS AUSTIN ORIGINAL

By Ashley Kamrath |

As a Native Austinite I have always loved Chuy's! They have really great food and the atmosphere is quintessential Austin!

Chica Boom Boom great!

By Tim M |

We heard that Chuy’s is one of the best Tex-Mex restaurants and we were not disappointed. We asked about specials and our server described some great dishes not on the menu. We ordered an “Elvis” special and it was great. Especially liked the chic-a boom boom enchilada.

Good Tex Mex

By Razorgeorge |

Busy location and they have excellent Tex Mex food I think their beef and chicken fajitas are some of the best. Kind of crowded but cozy. They have other locations with more space but this is great if you are near it.

Lunch with brother

By Berenice G |

Decor, interior Great! But food rather tasteless, and the cherro beans came out of a can,! My brother and sister-in-law liked it! The service was excellent for the crowd, that I can't critisize!

Great margaritas!!

By Peggipoo |

Frozen margaritas were great. The whole family enjoyed the meal. I will definitely check out the restaurant in Atlanta. I had Baja shrimp tacos. They were very good.

Great Austin vibe and delicious food!

By Nostalgiyeah |

Five star for the ambiance and add a lot more stars for the food as well! The decor of Chuy's is quite fascinating, it is vibrant and colorful and exudes a warmth and beauty like none other. I asked for some guacamole to go with the chips they served, absolutely loved the flavor! We ordered the Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken and an order of Relleno & Enchilada, the latter marked on the menu as a Tex-Mex classic. Both the dishes turned out to be magnificent! I particularly loved the Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken, which came with a generous helping of rice and beans. The green chile sauce was the highlight for me! Great food, and an excellent late night vibe when we went in around 10.30 PM on a Saturday. A definite must-visit Austin grub house!

An Austin Must Do

By Sian C |

A good place to stop on the way out of zilker park or barton springs pool. Or even better, after a long walk around Lady Bird lake on a hot summer day. You can't go wrong with their chips and green sauce while chasing it down with one of their yummy frozen margaritas.

The original funky Tex-Mex place that you MUST visit

By Laurie N |

This place was recommended to me by the girl at the front desk of the hotel I stayed at. I usually shy away from chains but didn't realize it was part of a chain until after I'd already eaten there and been wowed. There's an all-you-can-eat nacho car (bar) during happy hour M-F. That alone is worth the visit. All you need to order is a drink and the nacho car is yours to visit as many times as your stomach can manage. There are great thin tortilla chips, their wonderful queso, their exceptional refried beans, taco meat with pepper and onion bits, sliced pickled jalapenos, pico de gallo (their original spicy salsa), and ranchero sauce (according to them, the least spicy, but still had a nice kick). Upon learning it was my first visit, my wonderful waiter offered me samples of any of the salsas on the menu. The Hatch green chile came out warm, and genuinely spicy (like it should be!). I tried not to go overboard on the free stuff because I wanted to try something on the menu. Friday's special offering, chicken enchiladas with a creamy spicy avocado salsa (and the standard rice and refried beans), was recommended, and was delicious, reasonably priced, and a large enough portion that I had leftovers enough for breakfast. And seriously, any Tex-Mex or Mexican place that makes refried beans as good as Chuy's is a 10 in my book. Go. You won't be sorry you did.

Great food in a great location!

By pattinj |

Chuy's is one of our favorite Tex Mex places in Austin. The menu has a few things that you won't find at other Tex Mex restaurants, such as the stacked tacos! This location is very convenient when you've been swimming at Barton Springs pool or walking the parks and trails nearby.

A taste of local Austin eating

By Peter F |

Although crowded, we were served drinks and chips quickly. Appetizers and our meal was spaced appropriately and we were never rushed. The place is bustling and filled with laughter and conversation. The food was so plentiful we thought we would never eat again, maybe we are too many chips! Everything is prepared fresh and comes to the table very hot. In fact we were warned not to touch our plates. My chicken enchiladas were in a very tasty green sauce and my wife had steak fajitas that 3 people could eat. Plentiful, great tasting and a “local” atmosphere that is worth the trip. Austin is growing rapidly and it is nice to find a place that remains, local.

Best Mexican food in Austin

By rogerblankenship |

Recently, my sisters took my wife and I to Chuy's for lunch during our visit to Austin. Great service, great servers, excellent food. I ate way too much, but that is my problem. Just great place to visit, prices are very affordable.

Great hospitality and Mexican food. Great atmosphere. Everyone was friendly and courteous. Great service.

By Judi C |

Great Mexican food and service. Highly recommend. Hospitality was amazing. Great atmosphere. People are courteous and friendly.

Same Good Food

By QSKSHEN |

Went to the original Chuys. It was delicious. The service was very good. The parking lot was packed and tiny.

Could be better

By jeff M |

The food is ok, but could be better for Tex Mex. The guacamole was average. The cheese enchiladas were good. Our server was "special". She never came back to refill any of our drinks or water and when we asked her she said "please" implying we didn't say please when we asked her. We were beyond respectful so when she did that I was shocked.

Fun Tex Mex place

By Liztravelsandeats |

The decor here is super fun with lots of details. It’s nice to walk around the restaurant and appreciate them. Staff is super friendly, service was fast. Food was great!

Great food, neat atmosphere

By Scott E |

Stopped in for dinner with family, great food in a really unique setting. Huge burritos, really enjoyed the meal

Just fantastic

By Joel M |

Finally found a place where the Tex-Mex food is great. The best food outside of my home town. Great lunch and dinner entrees. Great setting. Just fantastic food. It took 7 years, but finally a great Tex-Mex place.

Great food, great value, awesome waitstaff!

By itsallinthedetails |

Everyone we spoke to about our planned visit to Austin said Chuy's was a must visit restaurant. We are so glad we took them at their word and tried Chuy's for ourselves. We went to the original location on Barton Springs Road. The food was delicious, plentiful, and reasonably priced. Our fantastic waiter (a young, brunette guy who's name is escaping me) recommended a "secret" menu item - a fish taco and a "small" brisket burrito. It was so good and so filling that I had to take the entire "small" burrito home with me as I was too full after just the taco. Traveling to Austin? Looking for great Mexican food? Chuy's is your place!

Not that impressed.....

By Sandra N |

While we had decent service and food, I was not overly impressed with the quality of anything. Not the atmosphere or eats. Maybe it's because so many others have raved about Chuy's over time, that I had overly high expectations. We are in no rush to return.

Vacation

By paws0810 |

Well, I couldn’t find the restaurant on TripAdvisor of the one we went to. But we went to this chain for lunch. The food is good. The restaurant is clean and the waitress was delightful.

Nice service and good e

By KSRS2000 |

We had a nice meal outside here. The beer was cold and the service was good. We had a smattering of items from the menu. I had the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom enchiladas. They were good. The queso was good with the chips. Nice spot for a casual meal with family.

Fun atmosphere and excellent food

By JohnsonIV |

As I understand it, this was the original that spawned the nationwide chain of kitschy Tex-Mex restaurants with an Elvis core. This one's a funky old place that felt like a large Tex-Mex diner. The main dining room has low ceilings and lots of booths, while the bar-side dining areas have high ceilings and lots of tables. Throughout the restaurant are lots of bright, interesting art, as well as the standard bright Chuy's paint job on the walls (and maybe ceilings?); it's kitschy, but even with the outside done the same way, it's not overdone and instead just exudes fun. The staff is welcoming, friendly, and very efficient. There's a decent amount of parking wrapping around the restaurant. The flavors in all the dishes that I tried were very good, and there was excellent spice-heat where there should be, especially in the excellent salsa (which at most other Chuy's is much more mild). The menu is a decent size and contains most of the standard Tex-Mex staples, although it seemed to be focused on enchiladas, tacos, and burritos. I had a Patron pineapple margarita to drink, which was excellent, and they have a good mix of flavors and styles to all their margaritas and other drinks. (At least of the boozy drinks. I think there was a much smaller selection of non-alcoholic drinks, which included more of the usual fare.)

Hatch Green chili sauce!!

By Kimraem |

We stopped here because our daughter recommended it. The salsa with the chips was chunky and spicy, very good. My husband and I split the Chuychanga, it was very good! I chose a green chili sauce. The bartender recommended the hatch chili sauce and it was outstanding! My husband had the spicy cheese sauce and that was very good as well.

Where it all began.

By Philip P |

Crowded, noisy and fun. Not to miss if you are in Austin. Oh, and the food and service is excellent.

1st in house experience since the Covid epidemic,

By Richard E |

Visited the 183/Duval location. We were frequent diners before Covid. Our server Shanel was friendly and attentive. I had the Comida Deluxe and my wife had the Shrimp tacos. The food was just as we remembered it. The prices have gone up, but the portions were still good. No charro beans was the only disappointment. Good service by Shanel made the meal that much more enjoyable.

Yesterday today tomorrow - consistently great

By jposttx |

We went online to reserve a table on a Tuesday night - checked in with hostesses- total of maybe 45 minutes on a Tuesday night. By 9pm many folks had cleared out. Been going to Chuys around Texas for 25 years - love it. They know what they are doing.i have changed over time what I order - but they have stayed consistently great - even as they have grown into a national chain. Chuychanga! My go to for years Elvis Presley memorial plate - anything on the menu is gonna be good. Tonight we traveled with 3 late teens / early 20s and they loved the Jalapeño Ranch sauce - which we think is Green Goddess dressing with some Japs added! Love Chuys - a Texas institution- you will too

Elvis Presley fried chicken

By alex |

Great food. Though, as an og, only adding the Elvis Presley fried chicken could make it better. That dish made the restaurant so special.

Good Food--Great Service

By Sally S |

Visited Chuy's on Lamar with friends. This was our first nite in Austin, and Chuy's set the bar pretty high! With drinks and a huge variety of chips and salsas, we were happy campers! Dinner was good, but the best part of our visit was our server, Lil Debb! Outstanding service! She even went the extra mile to provide us with suggestions and directions!

Chuy's Gabriel Culiat Austin Tex Mex

By Gabriel A Culiat |

Had a great experience at Chuys. They were really busy during our lunch break but our food still came out in a timely fashion. Gabriel Culiat. Our server Mike was very friendly and kind. We will definitely recommend them to family and friends

Phenomenal mojito- ok food

By LDM125 |

Best mojito, ok food. We waited a long while to get a table for two, which was ok. The super thin tortillas were delicious in the jalepeno ranch. Our dinners were gluten free and ok, but the chicken was blandly spicy- just not very flavourful. It was all pretty ‘food court’ except for that perfect mojito!

Worth the wait

By flyme2themun |

while waiting for our order, we were served with complimentary fresh chips with salsa dip. We ordered beef fajita( not pictured) it was very good. Beef was very tender, we also had the chicken boom boom... shredded chicken wrap in boom boom sauce It was also good ...Baja taco was made with either fried or grilled shrimp taco. I had the fried shrimp taco and it was very good, I chose boom boom sauce for my shrimp chili relleno ... not very spicy just a little bite. My son chose the Elvis Presley burrito.. all servings were big and came with rice and beans. Boom boom sauce is slightly spicy in a semi creamy base.

Authentic tex-mex food

By kkdeacon |

Really nice tex-mex food and the portions were huge. But as the 3 of us concluded - tex-mex just doesnt get to earn a 5 rating. Service is good and the place has a good atmosphere

Chuy's is Fantastic!

By 865marnif |

This place is so much fun with fantastic food! The appetizers are so delicious. And they make an incredible Mexican Martini!

Decent Mexican at a reasonable price...

By Josie679 |

The Tex-Mex food at Chuy's was decent & the service was very good. Even though this restaurant had very good reviews on Yelp, we thought that the food was just fair overall. I had the Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom entree. The Boom Boom sauce was quite hot! It was a decent meal but too heavy on the sauce. Prices were very reasonable.

Fun decor and great enchiladas

By Elizabeth R |

This was a favorite restaurant when visiting Austin with our children . Unique decor always made it fun and the free ice cream taco for kids. The decor was still fun . Our waiter was very friendly . We all had enchiladas and they were still yummy! The basket of chips was great. I had a delicious raspberry margarita. The rice wasn't great but that was our only complaint. We will be back .

An Austin landmark

By PenibleMaisJuste |

The Tex-Mex food is good but it's the overall package that makes Chuy's an exceptional place: the original location, the serving sizes, the festive atmosphere... This is an Austin landmark. Don't miss it!

Muy Chuy’s

By mcdedrick |

WOW! The food here is out of this world. As are the portion sizes. We had lunch here, with no wait just after noon. The interior decoration is very kitschy and fun. We were in and out within an hour but never felt rushed. We loved The salsa, chips, guacamole, fajitas and boom boom chicken. The entrees came out steaming. The margarita tasted fresh and homemade. None of that bottled sugary flavor here. The server was great and kept our water full without being asked. This was some of the best mex I have had in the US and I look forward to coming here again.

Good Solid Tex-Mex and reasonable too

By KPNEAustin |

Long time Austin tradition. Has done well in the city. Great Tex-Mex, most excellent atmosphere (just neat stuff to see). The food is more than reasonably priced and is very good quality. Tex Mex is not Mexican food, it is a superior (imho).

Another average TexMex place

By jonathan b |

I wasn't impressed with the flavor of the "big as yo face" burrito. Pretty bland. The salsa was decent but the filling in the burrito was just... plain.

watch out for the margaritas!

By judyqatar |

Good food, good service and amazing margaritas, but watch out...they pack a punch!! If you're gonna drink, have a designated driver, or Uber it back home!

Chuy's - Austin Tex-Mex

By Michael E |

Another great Austin Original... Very tasty Tex-Mex food, great Cocktails, and cool vibe atmosphere. The portions are huge and the prices are small... So popular that they have spread all over.

Marg & Tex Mex Mecca

By Wendy Z |

We are fortunate to travel frequently and eat at many great restaurants and Chuy’s is in my top 5 restaurants. This is not a fine dining serene ambiance experience but the mags & Tex Mex yummy goodness allow you to overlook the uneven table & noisy dining environment. The food was so good I wish I was capable of eating more. I literally left in pain and could only finish 1/3 of my plate.

Prompt service and delicious food!

By Pinaywife |

It’s been awhile since we ate here. We tried other Chuy’s and they’re all consistent in food and service. The service is prompt and the food is always delicious. It’s a family friendly restaurant. The music is lively and it too loud. The location is accessible from the main highway. This one is located near COSTCO.

Great Food, Great Original Place!

By Theologator |

This is the original Chuy’s and unlike any of the franchises. It’s funky-cool, a throwback to the 60’s and has great TexMex food. Our server Danielle was excellent - made great recommendations and kept a good eye on us. We loved it!

Lunch

By Kirstie L |

We popped in for lunch after our tour guide at AO Tours pointed it out as a good spot.. it was really busy with locals. Our server jade was great and made some great recommendations. Food was great quality, quickly delivered and really tasty..

Just the best there is in Texas.

By Mark C |

Cheese enchiladas are not to be missed. The staff was attentive and kinda hip at the same time. the ambience is right out of any college USA, the staff is very comfortable with the menu, and knowing what to suggest.

Quirky place with eats & drinks

By Awyna S |

Love the quirky decor! Fun funky place to eat and have drinks! Had a great waitress that put up with us 6 gals so 6 separate tickets lol! Very busy and lots of happy chatty people! Everybody's food looked good, I had chicken quesadillas which tasted awesome just came in flour tortillas folded like tacos. Still the flavor was excellent! Yes I'll be back!

Mexican

By christine n |

This is a fun spot, your little kids, teens and young adults, families will all enjoy. Or you can come watch the game and have a drink and some great queso. And try the Mexican Martinin.

Food and atmosphere is always good.

By whydoineed30242 |

Haven't been to Austin in years, but when I do go it is with the intent to eat at the original chuy's. Food is TEXMEX and always comes out piping hot. And their top shelf margaritas darn good. They make them with fresh squeezed limes and top shelf liqueurs. If I had a complaint it would be my inability to limit myself on the chips / salsa they serve, I have not been able to finish my actual meal. Enough about the food. The staff is what makes this chuy's a great place to hang out. Starting (2PM) from the moment you walk in (hostess) to seating (at the bar) everyone was outgoing and friendly. the bartender (male) on shift during our first hour was on point. He recommended food that was off menu (covid) and kept the chips (damn him), salsa, water and drink flowing. He briefed us on all things happening in ATX and what was coming and where to go for more local atmosphere. The second bartender (female) was even better, good conversation, local to ATX and checked me a couple of times (like a long time friend would). She gave us the name of a second place that served the best margaritas (premium) at half price during HH. If you go, I recommend the following: 1. UBER/LYFT - don't fool yourself with those scooters after a few drinks. 2. If possible sit on the bar side. 3. Bring appetite and good vibes. 4. Weekdays 1:30-5:00PM is best (according to bartenders). 5. Watch yourself on those chips.

Weekly fix

By Ginger |

My husband and I crave Chuy's chips and salsa! We also love their chicken fajitas. I love how they taste and the quality is always consistent! We are never disappointed. We generally go once a week!

Great authentic Tex-Mex dining

By Lillian B |

Great delicious food. I had a bean and cheese burrito with a medium housemate sauce and it was great. They offer both indoor seating and patio seating. The staff are wonderful

Great Lunch Near Zilker Park/Barton Springs

By 3DayPlay |

If you are in Zilker Park or Barton Springs, you can walk to this restaurant. The highlights for me are as follows: (1) Free chips and homemade salsa. The salsa is very good and they keep bringing you more without having to ask. (2) Margaritas. I am a margarita snob in that I refuse to drink those that use a pre-made mix. Instead, I only drink margaritas that use fresh citrus juice. This place uses fresh juice and has many top shelf margarita options for around $10.00. My suggestion is to order top shelf because you are worth it. (3) Food. I had the chicken fajitas which was huge and delicious. My wife had the chicken tacos. Those appeared to be the healthiest choices on the menu whilst still enjoying all of the tex-mex flavor this restaurant provides. However, if you are looking for more gut bomb choices, this restaurant will not disappoint. (4) Kids Food. The kids menu at this restaurant is awesome. For example the many kids choices including hamburger and chix nuggets (in addition to tex-mex choices) comes with the option of fries or mac & cheese as a side. When ordering for kid, being able to have chix nuggets and mac & cheese for one price is clutch. In fact the meal was so good, my son ate the whole thing which is just shy of an earthly miracle. Overall, definitely a must do if near Zilker Park for lunch or dinner.

Great food and friendly service!

By Lizzy |

I came here with some friends for lunch and I highly recommend it. Great food, large portions and super friendly staff! Thanks for a great lunch!

fun Tex-Mex

By skigladys |

FAST service & food.. solid; fresh ingredients, not spicy enough for me, but fine for my husband.. would def go again when in the mood for tex-mex

Colorful, loud, playful

By BeastiePV |

We did a late lunch here knowing that this is not a quiet place to dine. The tortilla soup was tasty and filling. We recommend it. The ambiance is colorful, playful, with music and talk as background. Come for late lunch on a weekday.

average, noisy

By sgtr0ck |

average tex-mex food. wait for table, service was ok. noise level prevented normal table conversation, parking casn be a issue, not for me.

Happy Hour

By Albert H |

Chuy's is a local hangout with good tex-mex food. The downtown location is the original on Barton Springs Rd. Great Mexican martini's

First dinner Austin

By Steve S |

Wow was it great. Shawty did a great job he was server. I had chicken burrito couldn’t eat all of it but tried cause it was yummy. My sweetie had pork tacos she could only eat 1. She had chips and queso which was also great. First Lone star Beer. For only $2.50. Man I love Texas.

Tex Mex Austin Style

Best Tex Mex around. Yummy salsa and jalapeño creamy sauce. Good chips and very yummy tacos. The atmosphere is very Austin and fun. I love this place!

Soft, fresh, fluffy and addictive tortillas

By Bailey Gaddis - Intrepid Travel Tribe |

I would happily eat Chuy’s flour tortillas with everything. Everything. They’re that good. Dip them in Chuy’s divine chile con queso, make a taco with the succulent Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken, or just ask for some honey to pour on then. I’ve been going to Chuy’s for the last 20 years, and while I’m a sucker for the enchiladas, I’ve never been disappointed when I try something new. Beyond the spot on Tex-Mex nosh is the bright, quirky decor, which makes it a fun place to go with kiddos who need ample visual stimulation. If you want a classic Austin experience, don’t skip Chuy’s.

Awesomesauce!

By gnixon14 |

Everything about Chuy's is top notch. Quirky decor but the food is great. The service is fantastic. The only complaint I have is there is always a line.

Excellent burritos

By tinaNtravel |

I visited Austin back in the 90s and went to Chuy’s and I thought they had the best burrito I’ve ever eaten. So, this trip and many, many burritos later, I had to go back to Chuy’s. They did not disappoint – their burritos are still the best or at least among the best. The server was also nice and friendly. The restaurant is decorated like an old-time diner. If I lived in Austin, I’d be going to Chuy’s regularly.

Never Disappoints!

By GeauxDoug |

Have been going to Chuys whenever I visit Austin since the early 80’s. Chuys is timeless and has never disappointed. The gren hatch salsa is to die for. Anything on the menu is superb but my favorite is the steak burrito.

Yummy mexican food

By Kathy C |

The food was amazing! Very busy place, friendly staff and delicous! It was clear locals frequent the establishment as well. Def a go to when in the area

Delicious food but they started clearing our table

By Gloria L |

The original site was cram packed. One can call early to get on the wait list. We ordered fajitas for one for both of us since they are hearty servings. We had just gotten served but we both left to use their facilities and someone thought we were finished so they began to clear the table. I was visibly upset and they brought more tortillas and chicken but the extra chicken was slightly burned. They had a hiring sign and seemed understaffed.

Always a favorite

This in not your diet friendly place, but your taste buds will thank you. Amazing tortilla chips and don't forget the creamy jalepeno.

Wow what a busy place, I did not expect such good food and quick service with the crowd.

By Dean3839 |

We went on Elvis's birthday and the placed was packed. There were serveral Elvis impersonators so there was a lot of activity! The server did a great job with the large crowd. The food was great and there was plenty left over for the next day.

WHY IS THE FOOD AND STAFF SO GOOD 😊!!!!!

By Zoe T |

This is a place I would HIGHLY recommend for absolutely anybody- I cannot describe how lovely the staff are here! Also- this is for people who have never been- when you enter it is a wait that is as fast as a lightning so you will NOT starve like I hear on other reviews... To add to that, they give you chips ( English translation- nachos) while you wait for the food that you’ve ordered.. 😊 Let’s get to the conclusion though- I LOVE THIS PLACE AND I’M SURE YOU WILL!! And we obviously bought there t-shirts too😎😎!

Cant get Enough of Chuys!

By Brianna J |

Ive been going to Chuys for almost 15 years now and boy does it still taste as good as it did as it does now! Im obsessed with the creamy jalapeno and boom boom sauce! This is a regular for us! This place has the best tex-mex dont forget to get the Margarita!!

Tex-Mex boogie

By scampanozzi |

This place seems to be all the rave down here. Quite frankly, I don’t get it. Fair food at best but the happy hours or fun. I guess it’s just an Austin thing. If you’re from anywhere else but Austin you should probably go once and find out for yourself. I just went for the hatch chili festival and trust me it’s nothing special.

Original Chuys

By rharrison44 |

The first Chuys still chugs along, selling good tex-mex. Very large helpings, good margaritas, cheesy decor

Expect a line, enjoy a frozen drink while you wait

By kimstamps |

On my first trip to Texas, I tried a lot of Tex-Mex food. And Chuy's was recommended - for good reason. The food is fresh, the service was quick and it's a fun atmosphere. We did wait for a table, but there are plenty of drinks to keep you happy. Especially in the heat, a frozen drink hits the spot. I had Chicken Flautas, which were crunchy on the outside, filled with chicken. Servings are plentiful and the prices are very reasonable. Don't forget the chile con queso - theirs comes with Ranchero sauce - with chips!

As always great Tex-Mex

By Met789 |

In the city of Tex-Mex, this place shines as I always have the best steak fajitas here among all other places. Very prompt and friendly service, coupled with lots of good food at reasonable prices (14.95 for Steak Fajitas), this is the best place to have a great Tex-Mex dish. The complimentary chips and salsa are incredibly delicious.

The best chips and salsa

By Mike7797 |

This was a great lunch from start to finish. The chips are thin and tasty and the salsa is fantastic. The different sauces that you can get only add to the experience. All of our main courses were fantastic too. Can't talk about deserts, ate way to much to even try!

Late Lunch

By Daytona_Mac |

Stopped in after a hot round of miniature golf. We were tired and a bit grumpy and this place treated us like we were normal! Good food, great service and we enjoyed ourselves.

Fun and fast paced

By ctimms125 |

The food is always top-notch. Service is quick, and the restaurant is fun and funky. I have been here many times and I'be never been dissappointed. Chicka-chicka boom boom (chicken enchiladas) is perfect. The appetizer sampler is so good. I crave Chuy's food!

Great Tex Mex . Great Margaritas

By 292roser |

Love this place. Great happy hour with free nacho set up. Great Dallas and queso. Make tamales fresh, tortillas made fresh s well. Great green chili stew. Try the creamy jalapeno salsa for your chips.

We went in for nachos and stayed for more!

By aggiedad77 |

We went in for nachos and stayed for tacos and an order of flautas. With our chips we got a couple of ramikins of other sauces to sample, an extra mile by Matt. Margaritas was primo.

Pretty good for a chain

By CarlaB |

First off...the Boom Boom sauce at Chuy's is amazing!! Service is always excellent. The place is always clean. Wait times are crazy. If you are starving, avoid Chuy's at all cost because you will wait, anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours for a table. The chips are thin and greasy but the food is good. No real complaints, and we go there when we can't think of anywhere else to go. It's never a first choice but its not out of the question.

Queso! Sensational sauces!

By Danielle H |

The queso we got for an appetizer was literally the best queso I’ve ever had in my entire life. I also got the steak tacos and they were also amazing. They have all these different sensational sauces (for those who are obsessed with trying sauces like my boyfriend). The margaritas were on point. I basically gorged myself with all this great food and rolled out of there.

I am a local and regular at Chuy's

By 213jason |

This is TexMex at its best. The menu has tons of traditional favorites, but the chile rellenos are the bomb!! The chips and salsa are amazing, chunky and spicy. Don't forget to ask for their creamy jalapeño dip when you sit down. It's complimentary and delicious. When I have tacos it goes right on top of them also. You can change any topping sauce out. This being said you have to try the boom boom sauce. A bit spicy, but sooooo good. I have lived here for 16 years and haven't stopped loving Chuy's.

Huge Portions Worth the Wait

By YinzerTakesAWalk |

It took about twenty minutes to get seated on the Sunday we visited, which was fine because Chuy’s provides a chips and salsa bar during the wait. We also ordered drinks to pass the time which came out in fine time - had an interesting one that was both sweet and spicy with a green chile on top. It also gave us time to appreciate the velvet paintings and Elvis decorations in keeping with the ‘weird Austin’ tradition. Each of our plates heaped with food were so large we barely had room left on the table! Chicka-chicka Boom and Chile Rellenos were great, as well as the multitude of different salsas we were provided. Plenty of available parking in the restaurant’s lot, plenty of vegetarian options available.

Chuy's First and, for us, most memorable.

By B J |

There's always a special feel when we visit Austin, as memories from past visits come rushing in. The Original Chuy's is always on the list when we want funky Tex Mex and the "uniqueness" of Austin!

One of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve ever had

By Jimtravels4fun |

Wow this place is great! Tacos, enchiladas, chips, salsa, all as good as I’ve ever had and I’ve had lots of Mexican food over the years. A very busy place, mind you. We waited for about 30 minutes on a Wednesday night. But the wait was well worth it. Easy parking as well. I have had Chuy’s in another location. Not the same.

For 30 years, whenever I'm in town!

By Mark Sterling |

My love of this place started in college. The Chimichangas are the best! Combined with the chips and salsa and a killer Rita, it all keeps me coming back again and again. The kitchy Elvis and various retro decor make it a fun place to hang out too.

Chuy’s Barton Sorings

By Terry C |

The place was a little crowded and noisy, but that was probably because the Tex Mex food is so good. The staff was friendly and attentive.

Decent Tex Mex in a quirky setting

By Michele G |

Never have had a bad experience here. You MUST try the creamy jalapeno dip! Not too hot to enjoy. I love the flautas and of course their guacamole. This has become one of my favorite local area restaurants.

Below standard of other Chuy's

By Erica F |

We were very disappointed in this Chuy's. We love Mexican food, so when we saw Chuy's we all voted to have lunch there. The service was sub-standard. The food was so-so and I would happily have left after the first few bites and gone elsewhere but the family was 'starving' so we stayed put and spent the worst hour of our road trip, eating food that none of us enjoyed or finished. What a disappointment!

Eclectic Tex-Mex on my favorite restaurant row in Austin!

By DAS713 |

Magnificently decorated, ample parking for the area and excellent friendly service, always! Order the loaded Queso and I promise you will be back again and again! My favorite is the Shrimp enchiladas with a white sauce which they customize to your own preference of heat... Great classic spot on BArton Creek and has been there forver, and you wil discover the reason for that.

Yummy dinner!

By cashulman5 |

We were seated right away at 5:30 on a Friday night.....big place. Really really good white peach Rita! Loved it! Combo plate.....taco and enchilada and rice and beans filled the plate and my tummy! Austin was under a boil order but they gave us all water bottles and handled it with no problem!

Mexican fare

By REDCAC |

They offer free chips and salsa to start. Ordered fish tacos. Very good. Service was good. Good skinny Margaritas too.

The Original - Fantastic Food

By JStatler71 |

We had a great lunch here. I got steak tacos and they were simply terrific - great flavor in everything on my plate. The restaurant is not fancy; it has lots of character. Service was good. Only complaint was the noise - it is really loud in here, so definitely not the place for a quiet romantic meal. I would definitely go back!

The First. Thus Most Popular

By Vic777_12 |

Chuy's is great, but Chuy's on a Saturday morning with scores of people waiting to be seated and fed is not so great. As one can imagine, service was poor. My wife, who never complains, sent back her food because it was cold and unlike the same dish at other Chuy's. If you go on a weekend, go early.

Good Tex-Mex Mexican food

By Fischermm |

Took family to Chuy's Tex-Mex Mexican food. Ordered burritos, tacos, nachos, enchiladas and chips and salsa. Food was very delicious and tasty. Drinks also were very good.

Best Tex Mex in the City

By charlesacarter |

Come hungry and be ready for a good time. The plates of food are very large and the taste is the best in Austin. Come before noon or after 1:30 pm cause this place will fill up fast. Gluten free and veggie meals are also available and the tastes are just as great.

Food and vibe is fantastic!!

By melirouge |

We always try to find a Chuys to eat when we travel. The food is consistently great and the service is always great also. Our kids love to collect their tshirts because they are pretty funny. This Chuys was a bit small and cramped and then we found out it was the original! There were so many people eating there and the decor was so interesting and fun. Our dining room had hubcaps across the ceiling and the kids thought it was the coolest. For some reason the food was especially good at this Chuys and we were so glad that we drove into Austin to find it.

Austin visit

By hope51493 |

Food very good. Drinks strong. Service was great. Freindly place. Bring an appetite with you when you visit.

Chuy's Gabriel Culiat Tex Mex Restaurant

By Gabriel A Culiat |

Chuys has great Tex Mex food. The service is wonderful. Gabriel Culiat highly recommends them to his family and friends

Quick delicious Tex mex

By Bssss1234 |

Fantastic chips and salsa to start the meal. Quick service. Huge portions. Perfect after working up an appetite on the lady bird trail.

Quirky and tasty

By MarkFenrir |

The first thing that will strike you about this restaurant is its decor, which is really quirky and retro, in a way that doesn't feel manufactured like in so many other places. The staff is friendly, the food is great and the portions are big. A recommended stop in Austin.

Great food-Great Value-good service

By CreveCoeurMo |

We went right when Austin City Limits was letting out. There were pedestrians and cars moving very slowly everywhere. They told us it would be a 10 minute wait and that is exactly what it was. Our waitress was adorable and friendly. I think her name was Halley (not sure-blond). The service was very fast. The enchiladas verdes were excellent. The beans were not world class. I would definitely go again. They were set up for the on-slaught after the concert. I was impressed.

Chuy's Barton Springs Austin

By Traveling Momma |

Food was fast and fresh. Not the best Mexican food i have ever had but almost. Fresh guacamole, good queso, fresh chips, fresh tacos, ok nachos. I didn't like their salsa, more like pico. Looks older, not the cleanest. Friendly service. Close to Barton Springs/Zilker park. Get there before noon to get parking in back.

Favorite Restaurant in Austin

By aerokojak |

I make sure to hit up Chuy’s every time I come down to Austin. The service is always great, it’s a cool atmosphere and the food is amazing with very generous portions. I absolutely love their enchiladas with the deluxe tomatillo sauce. Highly recommend a visit if you’re in Austin - this is the real deal.

Good food, quirky environment

By Janice H |

This is a good place to go for TexMex and it is a fun environment to visit. Definitely a quirky Austin feel, but it's a good time.

Great service

By 454mm5 |

Atmosphere was fun, food was good and the service fantastic. We were a party of 9 and our server did a great job keeping our drinks topped up and getting our food out quickly. Plus she was really knowledgeable about the menu which helped us a ton.

Homemade Tortillas!

By LaEdGa6 |

The place is has a fun atmosphere and customer service is A+. Not my favorite tex-mex but the tortillas made it all worth it!

Austin's Iconic Tex Mex

By Martha J |

They bring in huge crowds for lunch and dinner every day. Awesome food, great service, but plan to get there early or wait in line. During green chili season, they have a variety of fantastic dishes that are really my faves. Outdoor patio is great for parties and families with kids. Cutest T-shirts as well! Worth the wait.

Boom Boom

By lauraduggan2015 |

That’s the magic sauce at this iconic Austin restaurant celebrating Hatch Chili week, the yummy celebration that comes to Chuy’s once a year. A cold frozen margarita and any enchilada with boom boom sauce (ask for it!) is the perfect anecdote to the 100+ August temperatures. For just a few weeks the menu features a page of hatch chili specialties. I ordered Vegetarian Enchiladas with boom boom sauce and think it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had in Austin—-and I’m a native. Loaded with lots of veggies and covered with this magic sauce, you won’t soon forget it. Their salsa is also the best in Austin, freshly made and superb. Yes, it’s all spicy but delicious!! This is THE original Chuy’s and it is a must. Tip: Ask to sit in the Elvis room. It’s quieter and AC vents don’t blow cold air on you.

FANTASTIC TEXMEX AND GOOD PORTIONS

By famillehamilton |

A local recommended Chuy's and we're glad he did. Great food and ok prices for the portions. The waitress was well-informed and explained the menu to us. I liked the chicken burrito with a side of guacamole and sour cream. Frozen lemonade is great (vodka) but a little pricey at $10/glass. The nacho chips are homemade -- as is everything they serve there. They are free to every table with a mild salsa and a delicious creamy jalapeno dip. We went back a 2nd time and found the dip too salty but it was perfect the first time we went. The decor is kitsch with Elvis pictures, hubcaps on the ceiling and cars sticking out of the wall. Fun place and full of locals -- always a good sign. It's located in a great neighbourhood close to Barton Springs and across from a bike rental shop. It's also near some food trucks if you have room for dessert! Great place and worth visiting.

Like the old days

By Mei-Shu S |

Have moved to the NW and missed badly on authentic Mexican food. By chance my Austin friends took me to this " Starbucks Original at Seattle downtown"-like Mexican restaurant chain's original. My taste buds for great Mexican food are all revived the second the chicken enchilata approaching them. Remember to order your dish with boom boom source that put the taste of the food another level higher.

Great Atmosphere, all around experience and meal

By Tom M |

In Austin for work and we had a crew of 8 people. We did not have a place really picked out to eat and based on lines at some of the different restaurants we ended up at Chuy's. Boy were we glad we did. We still had about a 20 minute wait at Chuy's but we were able to get some drinks and sit out on the front patio to wait. Even though the bar area was really busy, service was still fast and friendly. Once we got seated we started with some chips, salsa and guacamole. I am a big chips and salsa person and they were probably some of the best chips, salsa and guacamole I have had in a long time. For our meals we had a lot of different things, Elvis Fried Chicken, boom boom, tacos, Chicken burrito, Deluxe Chicken, and several different types of burritos. Everything was excellent and everyone was saying for the next few days how good it was and we all needed a Chuy's back home. Definitely worth the stop if you are looking for good Mexican in Austin. Enjoy!

Loud, Boisterous, Good Tex Mex

By moviegal226 |

This being one of the O.G. Chuy's locations, you can't go wrong with the food here. This place just screams "Austin Cool Vibes," and I always make a point to stop in for Happy Hour when I'm in town for the annual SXSW festival. It's sort of a tradition among myself and my friends to meet here at least once, and we always have a blast noshing on tasty queso, guacamole, and getting drunk on large and strong margaritas. Nobody does Tex-Mex food like Austin, and Chuy's is terrific. Yes, it's a chain. Yes, locals will turn their noses up if you tell them you're going here. But get over yourself! The food is so good. And the place is always packed, so it HAS to be filled with SOME locals, LOL! The portions are large (my hubby and I can share an appetizer or two and still leave with leftovers) and the ingredients are high quality. The folks in the kitchen here know how to cook, too, and we have never once been disappointed in either the food or the drinks! They have a very tiny parking lot that fills up, so catch at Uber here if you want less stress (plus, you can drink more if you aren't driving, SCORE)! The inside vibe has a retro, 1950s Texas feel. That's not a great descriptor, but it's the image they project. Think vinyl floors and formica countertops and bright turquoise plastic booths! The biggest caveat here is that it gets loud. Not just LOUD, but LOUD LOUD. You literally cannot hold a conversation here when it's packed, and it's unpleasantly, obnoxiously LOUD with patrons having to scream over each other. We've been here for dinner on a bustling Saturday night, and never ever again. We just sat there and couldn't say a word. It was soooo loud. Looking for a quiet, intimate date night? This ain't your place. It's lively to a fault, but surprisingly, Happy Hour is usually more subdued and chill. Go figure. The Happy Hour specials are good, and you can get big margaritas for cheap prices. Be sure to check their website for hours and current pricing, though. Also, if you go early enough for Happy Hour, you can enjoy some peace and quiet as the restaurant isn't as busy during the daylight hours as it is packed at night. We love Chuy's. From the magically thin and crispy complimentary chips (and super flavorful salsa) to the casual, friendly, and fast service, this Tex-Mex spot remains one of Austin's foodie gems.

The Original Chuy’s

By Gran7 |

You haven’t eaten at Chuy’s until you visit the inspiration for the chain. Great atmosphere. Great food and good service mixed with the history and culture make this a great outing

Always good Tex-Mex

By Bill M |

Chuy's is just a few doors down from Shady Grove, and I used to eat here when I wasn't eating there. Always packed with customers, so be prepared to wait a while; it's worth it. Chips on the table as soon as you're seated with salsa, but do yourself a BIG favor and ask for some Creamy Jalapeno sauce for the chips. No extra charge. You'll thank me. My all time favorite here is the Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken, but instead of getting the green chile, order it with Boom Boom sauce. Once again, you will thank me. They have GREAT fries, so I sub those instead of the rice and beans I won't eat anyway. They have a fantastic Steak Fajita Salad that is excellent with the aforementioned Creamy Jalapeno sauce. Highly recommend Chuy's if you want great Tex-Mex. I've been known to order the Elvis Presley Memorial Combo, too. You can't go wrong with it either.

The measure of all Tex Mex

By Spaintravell14 |

Best Tex Mex around. Great salsa and Big as Your Face Burritos. In season, they have the hatch green chile festival with special dishes with fresh green chiles. Other locations don't measure up to the original.

Great place to eat

By jg3isme |

I used to live in Austin about 13 years ago and loved this place. The place is still pretty much the same. The food is still great and very reasonably priced.

Great Tex-Mex Food - A Must

By James G |

We went with a large group of family, many who had been there before. It was my first time and the food was great. The ranch dipping sauce for the chips was great - they made very good margaritas also. The main course was awesome. No one had any complaints.

Great Experience

By Montana B |

If nostalgia was an appetite, I'd be fulfilled with the level of costumer and wait service provided last evening for my family. Mr. Charles went above and beyond to make our experience very special after learning we are california natives who once live in Texas. During our residence in Texas we would often eat at Chuy's just to get some of their creamy jelepeño. Well Charles made sure we relived all those beautiful moments we once shared once again. Thank you Charles for your excellent service, you were totally dope. All the best with your career and photography endeavors. PS a special thanks the management team, Eden for the taking the time out to listen to what I had to say about Charles. Everyone just Amazing!

Chuy's is a Winner

By greekbecky2016 |

I love the Chuy's chain restaurants, this particular Chuy's is so yummy. The food consistently tastes excellent and the margaritas, OMG, yes! This Mexican food is served up hot and quickly and that's the way it should be, because as soon as you walk in the door, the smells are going to make you hungry. The servers are nice and let their individual personalities shine in this establishment. I wish I still lived in Austin, because I was a regular here and you don't get TexMex like this in NY.

I love it

By María Sofía Lanz |

You have to order a Margarita to accompany your meal. The service is excellent, always young and friendly people willing to make you have a good time with good food. The fajitas are the best!!

Great place to experience Austin Weirdness

By SemDoc |

Sure there are better places to have Tex-Mex but Chuy's is the only Tex-Mex restaurant where you could possibly run into Elvis or soak in some AC during the heat of the day at ACL. The jalapeno ranch dressing is a nice addition to the regular chips and salsa you get everywhere else. A good place to eat on your own as there is SOOOOO mush to look at while dining. Go for the ambiance, stay for the margarita's and local flavor.

Great Margaritas makes everything better

By Janet W |

Very rarely will you go into a Chuy's Restaurant anywhere and be seated immediately. The Margaritas are thirst quenching and cools you off in the summer or after work. If there's a waiting list, just help yourself to the chips and salsa bar, order a drink at the bar, stand around, or sit at the bar and let the Margarita and salsa do its job. They have a creamy jalapeno avacoda dip that is amazing. Doesn't cost extra, but you have to request it. The menu is large but they don't have the usual dinner combinations of items I prefer, but for an appetizer, the nachos are killer. Everything I've eaten there is delish and worth ordering. But don't go during Happy Hour or at prime dinner hours without expecting a wait. Chuy's is popular and for good reason. Service can be great or so so and it all depends on wait person and table coverage. I have not seen the food or drinks suffer for big crowds or slower service due to a full house.

Always yummy

By Lisa B |

It was fun to visit this location. We had been to one in our hometown and really enjoyed it. This one was just as good. Our waiter was fantastic and when we told him we were with my husband’s college roommate from 30 years ago (and we hadn’t seen he and his wife in 10+ years), he brought us a complimentary dessert to share. Service was great! It is a little loud so somewhat hard to have conversation, but a great time nonetheless.

Nice dinner

By Teaxasborn5 |

Good service and great Tex-mex food. Margaritas were also good. We has a variety of different dishes and all were good. Always a great place to go

Chuy's is always a treat

By JayVTexas |

I go to the Chuy's in Round Rock as well as Barton Springs. All are very good and even since they have become a chain, they are still first rate. For a chain, this place is pretty authentic TexMex and the service is always very good. On a recent trip there were 4 of us and we all had different meals. The fajitas were excellent. The dip with chips was excellent. The place is always busy around lunch time or around 6:00. Highly recommend any of their locations

Excellent food and service!

By Meredith D |

Stopped here with our family while on vacation. Found it by accident. We had a short wait to get a table for 5 around lunchtime, but we were greeted warmly more than once and offered menus to look over. Our waiter was super helpful, answering questions and making suggestions. Our kids are a little older and asked to modify a couple items on the menu for kids. Chicken was added to a burrito and veggies were added to a quesadilla. Very nice! My husband and I each had different burritos. They were huge and tasted amazing! It was not inexpensive, but it was worth it! Our waiter even went above and beyond when we asked a few questions about where to visit in the area. Great experience overall!

Great salsa

By libbysacutie1 |

The chicken boom boom was fantastic and my husband got the Elvis combo and had leftovers. Panda our server was awesome and on top of things we had a party of eight and she was a great server.

Don’t miss this restaurant

By gmur119 |

Amazing food and fun atmosphere! My husband and I ordered a combination platter to sample several dishes. Everything was delicious and we had the best guacamole ever! Their Chicka Boom Boom enchiladas were the star. Highly recommend!

Good Mexican food

By Jaz |

The food was worth the wait. The portions were large and flavorful. The server was attentive to our allergen requirements and brought the drink refills quickly. The restaurant is kid friendly.

Excellent!

By ElConquistador000 |

Fantastic find! The food is the best. Our waitress, Staci, was fantastic. She recommend the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom and it was the best. If I lived in Austin, I would become a regular here.

Lunch After Z Park and Barton Springs

By KJ Hoosier |

While visiting Austin we walked past Chuy’s and decided to try lunch. Great Floutas and Tacos and prices were reasonable. The Elvis decor was cool, too.

Amazing Food

By harleymarginwalker |

Wow what an amazing place to visit and eat at! We decided to brunch out for New Year’s Day and after attempting a couple of other places that were full we tried this place (which was still really full but had a waitlist of 20 minutes). On arrival you get a buzzer and wait in a section in which you can order drinks and eat free chips/salsa - don’t eat these unless you are starving as the meals are huge!! After almost exactly 20 minutes we got seated in the very quirky dining area filled with kitschy paintings, chandeliers and objects. Very friendly wait staff and more complimentary chips/salsa. I had the mixed fajitas which were the best I have ever had!! My husband had a mixed platter which was huge. Luckily you are able to get containers for your leftovers. I would highly recommend and would definitely go back if in Austin again.

Good No-Frills TexMex

By JSS |

Good menu of all the mexican classics including fajitas, tacos, and enchiladas. Solid bar menu with an assortment of margaritas as you would expect. Good light corn chips with pico de gallo, guacamole, and queso. What's not to like? And the prices are more than fair.

Tasty and very frequented TexMex restaurant

By Mark L |

Be prepared to wait. Many were also getting take out. The wait was worth it. Food tasted very good and the staff were very friendly. I had the steak burrito... wow! And this boom boom sauce just tastes great. Try not to get filled up on the chips and salsa! Apparently this is the first location and it does not look like a chain restaurant at all. Even where we sat, they had hub caps on the ceiling... I would recommend..

Thank y'all

By TX L |

I have been to the other branch of this restaurant many times. Both restaurants are great in terms of service and atmosphere.

Chips and queso, cocktails yes..rest is a lil gringo

By drmader |

We have walked by a million times ..stopped In Today .. surprisingly gringo .. I liked Crispy beef and grilled Shrimp taco.. But the flour torts and bean and rice my husband had was so gringo. Reminds me of Maudie’s .. Kind of basic old School Mexican. Not the usually excellent TX Mexican food. With Matt’s and piscina and taco deli . Too many great place to send our friends to , take our fam to..we wouldn’t go back

Great for Birthday celebration!

By smtpeach |

Had a few ADA parking so got to get right up front on the side of the building. Did not have to wait part of our party was in the bar area. Once everyone arrived we were given the choice to stay there and push a few tables together or wait for seating, so we chose the bar! It was just as quick a service for all or food and drinks. Wait stuff was promt and helpful the whole time we were there. Our food arrived quickly and it was very very good. Had the Cheese Enchiladas. We had plenty of chips before hand to snack on. so that was great! The whole place was clean and nice and cool. Loved our time there and was not rushed away.

Great food

By hildarae98 |

This was our first time to eat at Chuy’s. The food was great and homemade. My family was surprised and delighted that the tortillas were homemade. The atmosphere was busy and packed with people.

The Place to Go for TexMex

By TravelingSoccerLoon |

This is the place to come if you're looking for TexMex when visiting Austin. I had the Chuychanga and it was delicious. Fun lively atmosphere. Always busy so plan accordingly

One of the best!

By Lizett G |

Met up with friends out of town, who absolutely loved the Texas Tinis and queso & Chips. I was so happy that this restaurant was open since everything else has been closed! My friends thoroughly enjoyed it and they cannot wait to come back! Thank you for the hostess who squeezed us inside on a busy Friday!

Crack sauce and queso, need I say more?

By hrc253 |

Mom and I were spending one last evening in Austin and wanted some Mexican. This restaurant came up as having great queso so we decided to try it for ourselves. The salsa was hotter than I appreciate but still fresh, but the main stars would be their crack sauce (white sauce), and queso! I could've easily made a meal off of that alone it was so good. I ordered something with a chaluppa, beef taco, and enchilada plus rice and beans. The meal itself came out hot and delicious (I'm not a veggie eater so I ordered without, probs why I'm short oh well) and it all tasted great but my favorite was their chaluppa! My mom got the taco salad and said it was very good. Also we had an amazing waitress, her name was Elora. She was funny and kept us informed on what to get or what to avoid off our tastes. We also asked what she recommended to do in the area and came back with a paper and list of things, sat down and explained what and when. I loved her personality and how helpful she was! Note: the queso is good heated up but the crack sauce loses its magic once exiting the door. Idk what happened but it didn't taste the same after we refrigerated it later on to save and eat so you should stuff your face while there. So. Good.

Great Mexican Food

Best chips ever. Enchiladas and chimichangas are wonderful. Margarita s are great. Parking is difficult when crowded.

Way to embarrassing your customers

By Rhonda W |

We have always gone to Chuys dressed as Elvis and Priscilla on Elvis' Birthday. Chuys restaurants have shrines to Elvis and decorations of Elvis everywhere. This year the waiter said "we usually give free food to those dressed up." He came back and said "sorry, our manager said we are not celebrating Elvis' Birthday this year." Nice. We hadn't asked for anything and were embarrassed by those sitting around us that heard this exchange.

Fun Local Tex-Mex

By Dave G |

Chuy's is an Austin home grown restaurant business. They provide quality Tex-Mex at very reasonable prices. The interior of the restaruant if unique with many items like hub caps, old photos, etc. on the walls and ceiling. Service is very good. It's basically a fun place to visit.
