Fantastic view for drinks!

By Cathy E |

We were looking for a rooftop bar to enjoy the outside on a nice Spring day. We went to Cindy’s and loved the experience. Here’s what you need to know: if you just walk in for a drink, you can either sit at the bar (most interior, no view), or go stand outside along the railing (no tables or chairs, limited space, but million dollar view). If you want to eat, you need to make a reservation. We went around 3pm on a Thursday and all tables were marked “reserved.” Also know that there is not as much of a view from the tables when the outside railing is lined with folks enjoying drinks. Although the glassed in dining area does enjoy a view of the sky and distant buildings, since the glass also encompasses some of the roof. On a windy, very cool, drizzly or very hot day, there probably aren’t as many folks standing outside, so there is a larger view in that situation. I would only go for drinks, and would go at odd times…although Cindy’s balcony was almost always busy every time we went by or saw it from the Art Institute when we were there.

Amazing Brunch

By tabby29 |

The food here was incredible. If you want a weekend brunch, make sure to book 30 days in advance because they book up very quickly.

Great View, Great Food

By iTraveltheworld195 |

This place is probably too cool for me and my husband but we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner there! With it's amazing drink menu and stunning view this is a place you want to be. The is the top floor in the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel by Hyatt. Go to the third elevator to access the restaurant the most efficiently. You may have to provide your name and reservation for access to the elevator. Once you are up there be sure to check out the balcony view! Our server was great and happy to accommodate our short dining window given that we had theater tickets. The kids arrived first and while they waited for us due to desperately bad traffic, they ordered the avocado toast. It was gone before we even arrived and they said it was excellent! We ordered our appetizer and entrees all at the same time to cut down on time. First, you should know that ALL plates are meant for sharing! The portion sizes are large. We started with an order of the burrata. OMG, so so good! It was served with squash and spinach. I have never seen it that way but it is a new favorite, for sure! For our mains, which we shared, we ordered the rigatoni, a large chicken shawarma and the broccoli rabe. The rigatoni was really really good but very rich! The chicken shawarma was tender and delicious. The broccoli rabe was only just okay but necessary for our resident vegan. So happy to have found a new place near theater!

Beautiful Rooftop Bar

By JessK |

This is a beautiful trendy rooftop bar. It has a great view of Millennium Park. They put a fire pit outside when it's chilly out so you can really take in the views. The drinks here while pricey, are excellent. If you're looking for a proper martini, this is the place for you. The bartenders are friendly, albeit very busy. So it can be hard to get service at the bar if you're not seated. I would come back here for my next Chicago visit.

Great staff!

By Ruszange |

We were looking for a good view and somewhere that would allow 16 year old with mom after 7pm (turned away by Signature Lounge). Cindy’s treated us so well and let us find a spot to have a quick drink (iced tea for the minor) and enjoy the views! Our server was super nice and very attentive. Views were awesome - step outside where the fire places are to snap pics. Menu looked amazing. The atmosphere was excellent.

You just can’t beat an excellent meal & view

By Jeff Meyer |

You just can’t beat an excellent meal with a breathtaking view! We enjoyed the chicken and fish entrees along with a banana dessert to finish off the meal. Great service too!

Perfect spot for a great meal and a view of Millennium Park

By Amy S |

What an amazing meal with spectacular views! Service was prompt and the food was delicious. We were there for brunch and had the quiche of the day along with a Bloody Mary which was one of the best I’ve had! Fresh flowers on the table were an added touch.

Beautiful but Pricey

By megghin |

Functioning as a beautiful rooftop restaurant and bar, Cindy’s overlooks Michigan Lake and Millennium Park with its outdoor terrace. Cocktails were tasty but expensive (but that’s to be expected in downtown Chicago)

Cindy’s rooftop

Expensive. Limited menu. Nice view of the park and skyline. Overrated. Lotta young people. Nice rooftop and a beautiful building.

Excellent drinks and beautiful views

By xcschlr |

Three of us decided to have some drinks here a few days before Christmas. We had to wait in line for the elevator to take us up to the top floor of the building where the bar is located, but the elevator turnover was quite fast. Without the need for a table for ordering food, we were able to place our drink orders (Boulevardi-Nay, Schmoke & Pancake, and No Soup for You) almost immediately. The Boulevardi-Nay was an NA drink that really tasted like a combination of spritz and malt. The Schmoke & Pancake had a complex flavor profile and was very refreshing. No Soup for You was rich and savory. We enjoyed all three drinks a lot. We initially sat at the bar and were able to see the super skilled bartender making different drinks – it was like watching her doing a choreographed dance. Toward the end of our visit, we moved to the desk to see the beautiful night scene with all the glittering lights on the skyscrapers nearby and the shining Christmas lights down below. It was a very enjoyable experience.

Exceptional!

Exceptional. excellent food, views of the park and extraordinary Service! What else needs to be said?

Cocktails with a view

By gourmetflaneur |

I f you are eating here, make a reservation. Only going for a drink then get your timing right as there can be a queue for the dedicated lift to Cindy's and the bar can be busy. But it is worth it. A great view over Millennium Park; a terrace with fire pits to make the outdoors bearable and bar tenders who can mix a drink perfectly while lining up the next order and taking the card payment for the earlier one. It is a fine art these bar people have. Great to watch. And they mix their drinks tp perfection. Loved it.

Rooftop disappointment

By Cristina C |

Silly tourist rooftop. Avoid this prank. There's nothing beyond the view that keeps squeezing in to take a photo. First time tourist place

Go for the view, meal, great atmosphere, service - I guess everything

By hockeyaw19 |

Lucky enough to get reservations for a Sunday at 5:15pm. Note - they only allow online reservations starting 15 days out so mark it on your calendar! The place was lovely and lively - great atmosphere and decor with a busy scene at the bar and along the roof deck. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were promptly seated. Go check out the view - it's incredible. The seating is a bit snug and we were pretty close to another table but it wasn't much of an issue but maybe if you're looking for a bit of privacy. We had oysters and the assorted Chicories as an appetizer. The oysters came out first and had a lovely citrussy brine that we sucked down our gullets lickidy split. Then came out the salad-ish dish. Which was a nice precursor to our meals. I had the prawns and my dad had the lamb ragu. The prawns were served with several hearty pieces of bread to absorb the delicious yet spicy sauce. The ragu came entangled with a heaping portion of pasta and freshly grated cheese. Both were excellent - the ragu portion was enormous and unfinishable especially with dessert on the mind. For dessert we had the Chocolate cake and the black sesame pavlova. My dad loved the chocolate cake - I thought it was fine. We both really enjoyed the sesame pavlova which had a unique balance of savory and sweet aspects in an imaginative plate. Highly recommend the pavlova. For the two of us with zero alcoholic drinks the price was around 185 with tip.

One night stay with family

By Ryan H |

We came to Cindy’s with our family just for a small visit to see Millenium park for our children to play in the fountains, and yet we ended up staying the remainder of the weekend because our kids had so much fun at the hotel and at Cindy’s. The staff at the restaurant were very accommodating and kind to our family. Amy behind the bar was forefront on specialty soft drinks, and the manager Lindsay was so helpful guiding us through our hotel stay. The cocktails alone are reason enough to return, however, we will happily return for the sincere customer service and attention to detail that they offer at Cindy’s and the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel. Thank you for all that you have done for our family.

Lunch

By Tais E. |

Very well worth the visit for the view that is amazing and the environment itself that is beautiful too! We went for lunch, the food was good, but not excellent, and the price was quite high, above what most restaurants charge. One suggestion is to go there just for a few drinks. If you go for lunch please make a reservation, it was very crowded!

Great view

By Expert Traveler |

NORMAL: Stop for a drink on the rooftop patio overlooking the lake. It's breath-taking. The food and drinks are good too. I was there for a corporate event. I had a delectable lobster sandwich. It was so yummy. Things are back to normal here. This is a must see in Chicago

Amazing view. Excellent food.

By Michael A |

The view of the Lake is amazing. Great food selection prepared wonderfully. Appropriately attentive wait staff Home run!

Terrible Service

By Tour57043067415 |

The bartenders and manager were unbelievably rude from my arrival. I don't why they are so hostile. The bartender was rude from the beginning to me and the rest of my party for seemingly no reason.

Go for the view, food not bad either

By Ausausbaby |

Had a great afternoon, hanging at the bar, enjoying the view. Hamburger was excellent, get extra aioli for the fries! Great way to enjoy a rainy day!

Beautiful view! Great food!

By KellyGrambau |

We tried making reservations ahead of time for about 2-3 weeks ahead of coming to town, but they were always booked. We decided to just walk in and we actually waited less than 10 mins before being seated w/o a reservation! The only thing that was disappointing was when I asked for ranch to dip my fries in, the waitress said they didn’t have any but they had some other dressing. I took her up on it, and then saw I was charged $3.00 for that little cup. That was a bit of a trick that I thought was sneaky. The service was overall good, but I think our waitress was having an off day as she was pretty flat. The food was delicious, and the older gentleman who brought our food was super friendly and fun, and made up for the dull waitress. Great view!

Bar staff not very welcoming

By Nancy-Anne |

The ladies on reception were lovely. The bar staff inside, not so much! Sat at the bar and ordered some ciders. We were not made to feel welcome. Nice view from the terrace, however, absolutely nowhere to sit out there, as there were no chairs. So that was a bit weird. Food menu looked pretentious and over priced, so we didn't bother.

Very Loud, but stunning location and building

By seattletraveler15 |

Large group, impossible to hear each other. Good service, good weight staff. Good for drinks with small table, pretty difficult with large table.

I felt disrespected and stolen.

By Hellen Barbin |

Be careful what you “ask” for. We were visiting Chicago for the first time. Our English isn’t great but pretty understandable. We tasted an Argentinian wine of $68 dollars and we asked the waiter to serve a bottle He went to pickup the “bottle” and took quite long time to come back . After opening the bottle and leaving on our table I notice that wasn’t the same wine. In fact I looked at the menu and that wine cost $160. I complained and they got mad and took the bottle and the glasses back to the kitchen. (Wonder if they will pour the wine in the glass inside the bottle again and trick another foreigner)

Go for the cocktails and view, stay for dinner

By Mariann K |

We went on a recommendation from a friend for cocktails and great view of the park and lake. Loved the outdoor fire pits and spacious terrace. We had planned to go elsewhere for dinner but found ourselves intrigued by the dishes passing by us. We managed two seats at the bar (full menu offered) then lucked into a no show reservation and managed a table quickly, otherwise make a reservation! It's a packed place! We fully expected an over-priced menu for mediocre food. To our delight, each dish was exceptional. The standout was the smoked squash salad with its unique and wonderful flavor pairings.

Espresso Martini’s on the rooftop

By Luce |

We visited Cindy’s for some cocktails whilst over looking Chicago at night from the rooftop balcony. Staff were friendly, espresso martinis were good and the view of the city was great. Would recommend a visit.

Building nice, food so so

By holidaychicLondon |

Mmmm I’m afraid this is one of those places which is over hyped.. The decor and ambience is really nice and our server was lovely. It’s let down by the food. We shared a charcuterie board to start which was an unusual one , tiny bit of cheese, a decent quantity of meat but then a little bit of fruit and jam and pickled veg.. all a bit bizarre. I had the piri piri roast chicken which was dry and pretty tasteless, it came again with pickled veg… my husband had the prawn curry which was ok..not much more to say…….

WOW YES!

By Elizabeth V |

Book a reservation in advance! It is definitely worth it! The food, drinks and view itself make it absolutely worthwhile. We came on a Monday for their brunch and it was still busy, however, our service remained immaculate! Don't miss this brunch!

Very good food!

By carmen95 |

Visited Cindy's for my Birthday, was a great treat, did not have to wait to be seated, ( we had reservations) the food and drinks are amazing,

Meh for a very desired Resy

By MIbeachgirl |

The view is divine! The staff was very attentive. We went for Brunch, and it was fine, average at best. Was it fabulous, not in my opinion. The fries with my burger were beyond salty. My sister thought they made a mistake, because for real, these were inedible. I did think the Bloody Mary was delish and the monkey Breadis something everyone should have. Egg plate was ok. Chiquellas looked dried , as if under a heat lamp.

Think before you go

By meur2003 |

The food is average and very expensive. Restaurant too noisy. Good customer service and it was cloudy so we couldn’t experience the view.

Nice view, good drinks - but value wasn't there

By JESMizzou |

The CAA hotel is a gem, just a really cool spot. Went specifically to have a nice drink with a killer view outside on a nice summer night. While it has a nice view of millenium park (as advertised) very litte of it is actually outside - it felt very crowded and cramped. I was expecting an experience similar to what ive had in other cosmopolitan cities (New York, LA, London, Paris, Atlanta, San Francisco) and this sort of fell short. Menu was definitely creative and drinks were tasty but in the end I felt it was overpriced for what i was expecting vs what I got.

Brunch after visit to Millennium Park

By ZeOtto |

Great place to have brunch. After visiting Millennium Park, there is nothing better than eating or drinking something on a rooftop. Although the building is not the tallest, this rooftop is very interesting, with good food and very attentive staff. Worth the visit.

Rooftop Restaurant

In the wonderful building opposite Millennium Park is this beautiful restaurant with a great rooftop terrace overlooking

One of the best rooftops in

By Rudolph L |

One of the best rooftops in Chicago , great view on the park , cloud gate. Would def come back there. The drink are ok , a bit overpriced due to the locations .

Great views but over crowded with mediocre food. Definitely a skip.

By Amy B |

Went on a Saturday night with friends. Thankfully we were able to snag a reservation and didn’t have to wait once we arrived (other than for the elevator to get up). The restaurant is beautiful with gorgeous views of the city but you are definitely just going there for the views and not the food. For appetizers, we ordered the deviled eggs, garlic bread and whitefish dip. The eggs were fine but for $15, it would be great to get more than 2.5 eggs. At least round it up to an even 6 halves but even paying $5 an egg is ridiculous. The garlic bread was very disappointing. $10 for two slices of soggy bread that was the style of garlic bread you make at home. Slap some butter on super toasted bread, sprinkle with garlic powder and top with parm and you have Cindy’s garlic bread. The worst part was the the cheese was only on the top piece of bread so the bottom bread was just soggy butter with garlic powder. The whitefish dip was pretty good but not worth $19. Everyone in our party ordered a salad. I had the Caesar salad and added grilled shrimped. The lettuce was soggy and overdressed and it was topped with Kraft parmesan cheese and toasted breadcrumbs that immediately turned into clumps because of the dressing. The shrimp was ok but very salty. Eating it with the lettuce helped cut the salt but it was a hard bite to swallow on its own. We ordered the Pecan Chocolate Cake for dessert and while it tasted good, we couldn’t figure out why it was so hard to cut through. The most disappointing part of the experience was the amount of people in the restaurant. There were so many random people walking through the restaurant to get to the patio that it was very disruptive. The bar inside was overcrowded with people that would overflow around the tables closest to the bar. It definitely made it seem like they were more concerned with packing in as many people as possible to maximize profit over providing an enjoyable experience and environment. If you really want to experience Cindy’s, go for just a drink on the patio but good luck squeezing your way to the edge to get a decent view. In terms of food, there are soooo many better places in Chicago where you will get a MUCH better meal for the price.

Superb night out after a big day out

By Darren |

We were recommended Cindy’s by a friend who had recently lived in Chicago for 4 months. We didn’t make a reservation and probably chose the worst time to walk up at 6pm on NASCAR weekend in Chicago. To our surprise we only had to wait for 10mins in line until we were escorted to the rooftop bar. We loved the vibe and ambience of the entire place. The staff were especially friendly from the ones downstairs controlling the crowd to the cool guy at the entrance upstairs to the waiters, bar staff and the cleaner upperers. Another staff member introduced himself to us and gave us a detailed history of the place after being questioned…..really nice guy, he then told us he was the manager towards the end of the conversation. All the cocktails we had were professionally made and tasted as they should, too many bars these days try and put their own twist on old favourites which annoys many people. The view was superb and fireworks at 9pm were fantastic.

Great bar with the perfect view

By Sharkey711 |

Went for. cocktail s just before sunset. Great atmosphere and perfect views over Millennium , The Cloud and the Lake from the outside patio. Busy bar and very welcoming. Many people also eating there, which I think may be reservations because it’s a really popular scene. Recommend for drinks and the view

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME

By Heather C |

Sad to say I wasted my time in such a beautiful city on this sorry excuse of a rooftop bar. The staff is absolutely disgusting to customers. Witnessed several rude encounters. I would give a zero if I could. LINDSEY is incredibly unprofessional, I couldn’t imagine in a million years hiring someone who acts like that at her own place of work.

Nice

By L H |

Nice space with high ceilings/lots of light, decent service. Only one Champagne, only one cider by glass. Seating can be an issue @ crowded times. Great view from the terrace, but they lock those doors @ 11 pm, so plan accordingly.

Million dollar view

By procyclist |

Somehow I'd never made it to this place before this trip. I'd say I've visited at least half a dozen rooftop bars in the Loop. Many are higher than this in terms of altitude and numbers of stories, but this one, with the view of the lake and the park, is the undisputed best.

Unique rooftop experience, excellent food & drinks

By Christof D |

Staying in the same hotel that hosts Cindy’s Rooftop, I had to visit it at least once. I went early for lunch , because of a tight schedule. That day, there was a blue sky in Chicago, and that reinforced the beauty of this rooftop establishment. I had a seat with an impressive view on Millenium Park and Lake Michigan. The waiter helped me picking a cocktail and it was a direct hit. I’m fond of cocktails with a sour touch. So I got a Figgy Stardust, a twist on a Daiquiri, but with a smooth mezcal instead of rhum. Then I ordered the Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich. The chicken was very tender and full of flavour and went very well with sriracha aioli, pickled radish, cabbage, cucumber and cilantro. The fries were amazing! Being from:Belgium, I know a thing or two about ‘French’ fries (they are not French, but originate from Belgium). These fries can compete with the best fries in Belgium. I ended with a Yuzu sorbet, wich was a perfect ending to this quality experience. Afterwards took some quick pictures on their balcony outside. The view is magnificent!

Must reserve to enjoy the asset of place

By Brigitte L |

One of the most recommanded roof top in Chicago. The view is stunning but you need to make sure to reserve a table, if not, inside it’s just another terrasse, although it’s nice. Food is good, choice limited. Too pricy if you’re not outside!

Brunch With A View

By StaceyTPC |

This such a pretty space with spectacular views and food. The staff are lovely and very helpful. We lucked out and were seated without a reservation but I would try to book ahead as it is very popular. The quiche was amazing!

Excellent view but disappointing dinner

By dott_Nicola |

On Google it is ranked as one of the best rooftops in Chicago, and in fact the view is remarkable directly over Millennium Park and the Bean. However the dinner was a disappointing experience. Difficult Reservation as it was sold out for several days. On the terrace you can only stand (you can not dine), but I already knew this. The indoor dining room had very strong air conditioning coming out directly to different points on the floor right under the sofas where people dine (and where our table was). In addition, the shouting of people who were near the bar counter, to order drinks to be consumed on the terrace, resounded so much that my partner and I could hardly hear what we were saying. The food was cooked well and very good. The price is quite expensive but in line with the local and rooftop terrace service. In general I would say that to have a drink on the terrace is perfect, but for dinner I would not return. That's too bad.

Can't beat the view, drinks and food not bad either

By Retired Explorer |

Went to this awesome bar with my brother and a couple of friends for a mixology session on martini's. While waiting we meandered onto the outdoor patio. Whoa! The view of Chicago, Millenium Park, the lake was spectacular. The bar itself is run very professionally and friendly to patrons, eaters and drinkers. Very open, allowing the sun in to brighten the venue. I'm told this place is so popular, that in the summer they have a waitlist for the outdoor patio of 3,000 a night!

Great ambience and great food!

By Margareta Sean |

The atmosphere is fantastic, complemented by a beautiful view. The food was enjoyable, and the service was good, although it was a bit slow in arriving.

Celebrating My Birthday -Could Not Have chosen a better place in all of Chicago

By traveltheworld012 |

Review in one word... WONDERFUL! I will describe in more detail. We came to explore Chicago and attend a Neil Young concert for my Birthday. August 25, 2025. I did try to reserve a table for 4 people online in advance, but it was all booked up until 9PM on both August 25 & 26. So, instead we decided to just go to the bar for drinks and snacks. We arrived about 6:30PM and the place indeed was very busy. At the bar the bartender was super friendly and very efficient in making our drinks. Just for the heck of it I put my name in for a table. They said it anything opens up, we would be notified. We expected to wait 30 minutes at least if even a possibility. We waited less than 10 minutes and they had a table for us. AWESOME! Not only that, we had a table right next to the window in the smaller side room with a door to the outside balcony. Our server was Colette who was very gracious and friendly. She waited on us like super special guests. I was drinking my excellent Old Fashioned cocktail and we shared appetizers of Smoked Whitefish and Garlic Bread. My wife and I shared an entree of Baby Back Ribs and Sauteed Vegetables. (more than enough for 2). I had a glass of red (Tempranillo) with my half of the ribs. The other couple had their entrees of Cacio e Pepe and Mushroom Risotto. We were too full for desserts, but Colette brought me a free mousse dessert, With the awesome view from the balcony and the superb meal it was a terrific birthday celebration. Thank you so much Cindy's Rooftop staff

Fantastic

By B Naile |

We came here as a recommendation from some people on the elevator. They said we should come here and experience the views. The views are second to none. You can see almost directly down at the Bean. You can also see the boats in the harbor. The food is excellent (we came for Brunch). Also the staff was extremely accommodating. When i tried to book a last minute reservation online it was not letting do it. I called the restaurant and they were like come on down. We had a short wait, like probably 15 min but were able to grab a drink at the bar and enjoy the patio. Such a cool place and very glad we went.

Great drinks and view

By Joe M |

Good spot to grab and drink and take in a s great view. If you are just having drinks you car stank on the balcony and take in the sights.

A must do

By Pootle69 |

Definitely a must when in Chicago. Food was amazing and very generous portions. A very chilled ambience even though it was really busy, such a lovely space to eat in. The view is exceptional. Only thing that stopped it being a 5 star rating was watching some of the waiters comparing checks and how much they had been tipped. Perhaps don’t do this in the middle of the restaurant in front of customers. All in all, a fab lunch.

Bad hostess service

By Patricia_Luz_Moreira |

We had made a reservation and got there 20 minutes before. Restaurant was empty but they made us wait at the bar because our “table was not ready”. After 20 minutes we were seated on a table that was free all the time we were at the bar. So the hostess service was awful to say the least. Food is ok. Nothing excepcional. The view is beautiful and that was the only thing that was worth.

Disgusting

By Egle |

We came to enjoy food and drinks but we paid 98.05 dollars for food and 2 disgusting hairs in the truffle potato. Absolutely disgusting. Do not go there, it is not clean.

Great rooftop bar experience on Michigan Ave

By T J |

Walking around Lakeshore Drive and Michigan Ave, discovered this rooftop bar called Cindy's! There was about a 10 min wait to get in, but once we did it was truly a fantastic atmosphere. Good service at the bar, plenty of seating or standing areas and a great view from the rooftop! Reasonably priced drinks as well (at least by Chicago standards). Would highly recommend this place.

Don’t waste your money or time

By Donahootraveler |

Sub par food and a VERY rude staff. Tried to salvage our night but the manager Lindsay didn’t care about our experience. First time in Chicago and May be my last due to this excuse for a restaurant

Great food, drinks view

Cindy's is the place to go for a great drink, great lunch and beautiful views of Lake Michigan and Michigan Avenue. Take your out-of-town friends here & impress them.

FOOD IS TERRIBLY SALTY - NOT EDIBLE BY HUMAN !!! Also their service is lousiest I had ever encountered !!!

By Judy M |

On Nov. 4, 2019 I went to Cindy's. I was lured by those faked reviews. The Scallop Crudo I ordered was not edible by human at all. The chef put tons of salt in the food and I think they want you to order 2 dozens of beers or drinks to go with it. In addition to terrible food quality of service was even worse. I went there late around 10 pm still lots people were eating on the tables and drinking on the bar. The server Brian was unbelievably un-polite and un-professional. He kept coming back to my table to check whether I have signed the bill. I was first time visiting Chicago and was treated by him as though I was homeless going in to beg for the food or what. He was so impatient he and the other server kept coming to my table wanting to take the bill away. Is that the correct way that the server come to pick up the bill after customers leave. NOOP !!! Not this place. I think those servers were trying to figure out how much tips you give them. These kind of servers need more training. Originally I was thinking to give Brian 20 percent of tip for $43 of food and ended up making my mind giving him zero instead. Probably you question if food is no good then how about the view. I honestly tell you that the view is not better than Skydeck or 360 Chicago. They face Millennium Park so during the night the park is totally dark. There are some fire pits decorating but you can enjoy the fire at your own home why go there and end up being pissed off by those uneducated servers !!!

Highly recommended by my sister

By Taylor B |

My sister, a suburbanite who loves to visit downtown Chicago to see shows or visit museums or attend a sporting event, recommended Cindy's Rooftop to me. Whenever she is in the Loop, she usually has lunch or dinner at the hip, stylish rooftop restaurant/bar at the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel. Located at 12 South Michigan Avenue, across the street from Millennium Park, it features a terrace that offers a wonderful view of the park and Lake Michigan. Open from 11 to 11 Monday through Thursday, 11 to midnight on Friday, 10 to midnight on Saturday and 10 to 11 on Sunday, Cindy's has succeeded where past occupants have failed. It's easy to see why. I started with truffled deviled eggs and a Caesar salad with little gem lettuce, herby bread crumbs and parmesan. Then I had an exceptional cheeseburger with aged Wisconsin cheddar cheese, ito, pickle and special sauce on a brioche bun. With house fries. For dessert, I was really impressed with a large slice of pecan chocolate cake with coconut pecan milk chocolate ganache and roasted cacao nib ice cream. Thanks for the tip, Pam.

Amazing for Family With Older Kids

By Katrina J |

2 families of 4 (kids 12,12, 9, 7 yrs) came here for lunch (no reservations) over spring break after some time at Millennium Park and Maggie Daley park. We were seated immediately, albeit separated (this was acceptable for no reservations). Our waitress was attentive, sweet, and even split an alcoholic drink for the 2 moms. Food came out quickly and was curated, high quality, fresh, flavorful. Although no kids menu, they were accommodating with menu modifications and you could get add-ons which were great for the older kids. The ambiance and view were unmatched for anything else we experienced in Chicago!

Worth the wait!

By Tesa Kay |

Have been wanting to get into this place for over a year! Did it live up to the “reservations only, booked weeks out” hype? Absolutely! Dinner at 6 pm Thursday night. Definitely boisterous atmosphere with happy hour going. Very loud - so if you’re looking for intimate and private, this isn’t it. Most seating is within an arms length of each other. The food though… Oh. My. Goodness. Every item that came to the table was sophisticated and delicious. We started we the cabbage (wow!) and then split the roasted chicken and a side of asparagus. The flavors that were melded together to create a unique taste are indescribable. And to top it off, the cheesecake!!!! My boyfriend declared it the best dessert he’s ever had (and he adores dessert). Our server (Blake) was aware of our timeline and did everything to ensure we had a wonderful time without making us feel rushed. He even offered a “to go” cup of soda for the road. Absolutely worth the effort to get in. Bravo on a luxurious dining experience.

Stunning views of Chicago… not to be missed!

By guyp232 |

Stunning views of Chicago with a great bar! A must-do if you’re visiting Chicago and want to get a bird’s eye perspective of the city from a different angle. Located just off the Main Street in front of “The Bean,” Cindy’s is easy to access via a direct elevator to the rooftop. A stunning bar and view awaits as you exit the elevator. You can also enjoy a full menu with table service, or choose to sit bar aide or even out on the observation deck outside to enjoy a great cocktail. Such a great suggestion by a local friend… so glad we stopped by for a wonderful cocktail and a breathtaking view. Highly recommended!

We had friends in-town, and one was celebrating a birthday. We headed to Cindy's to celebrate; we happened to go on a night (Sunday) where it was not packed (often, there is a line to the elevator). On the plus side, it's a cool space. The Andy Warhol painting that is the restaurant's namesake adds a chic touch, the big windows that open to the outside lend a breezy vibe to the place, and the views (of Millennium Park and Lake Michigan) are wonderful. We were seated at a couch and coffee table with a great view. It was definitely relaxing. On the minus side, as a restaurant, it was purely average. Service was mediocre; our server went through the motions, but nothing else. Cocktails were described well but disappointed on presentation and delivery (if you want a great cocktail, head instead downstairs in the same building to the Cherry Circle Room). Food was also average; we ordered a few appetizers and they were fine, but we felt expensive for what we were served. Not terrible--just not wonderful, in a city with a lot of wonderful options. I'd say: go for the views. Have a drink. Then eat elsewhere.

Rude staff. Gross food.

By MLHoner |

We came here an arranged brunch following our nieces wedding. The location is beautiful. However, everything else is terrible. First, the staff is the rudest I’ve ever encountered. From the host to the bartender to waitstaff - all rude and miserable. For the private brunch, there was no seating. You could go out on the deck and stand in the hot sun. Food was gross. Even the drinks were gross. 10/10 do not recommend.

AMAZING VIEWS

By Anna T |

Amazing views, great drinks (cocktails & mocktails), long lines. Definitely worth a visit to see the views from Cindy's, but be prepared to wait in lines to get up the elevator then more lines to get a drink. If you reserve a table in advance, you can skip the line.

Thanksgiving dinner!

By Cecilie D |

We booked tables and celebrated Thanksgiving! It was my first thanksgiving dinner, American style and it was a big success! The food was amazing and the service was good! And the view over Millenium park from the roof terrace was amazing!

Great food, and good ambiance!

By Sukanta Singha Roy |

I came here with my friends in May 2022. First of all, I would like to talk about the place. The place had really breathtaking views. The view was somewhat a little different from usual. You can see the Millennium Park from above. I heard from some local people that Cindy’s Bar is one of the best rooftop bars in Chicago and to my surprise, everything there was worth it. It was value for money. The coffee there was really great. I had Cindy’s House Salad and bread there and it was exquisitingly fresh. And you know the deal, fresh food is always delicious. My friends had Oysters on the half shell and they liked it. The food quality was really great. The rooftop place also has a bar. Other than that, the good ambiance was the cherry on top. To sum up the whole thing, I really enjoyed dining at this restaurant and would like to come back the next time.

Great food and even better view!

By Megan M |

Cindy’s is a great stop for anyone visiting downtown or celebrating! It is at the top of the beautiful Chicago Athletic Association and the space has a glass ceiling and awesome balcony!! Highly recommend as a spot to grab a cocktail and take in the view!!

Amazing views

By fireplac |

We went for drinks on a glorious sunny day. The entrance to the hotel is old architecture and so beautiful. The lift takes you to rooftop which is a bright airy space. Views from here are amazing can see across Millennium Park and beyond.

Chicago weekend getaway

By Sarah A |

We were able to be seated right away for Sunday brunch at a little ledge type seating area. Our waiter was very accommodating but drinks were a little slow. We had the chilaquiles skillet and shared it. Very good flavor, eggs were perfect. Blood Mary’s were okay, but overpriced at $15. You’re paying for the rooftop and the view, which is lovely. Neat place, definitely worth a visit. Saw someone else order the biscuits and gravy and wish I had ordered that instead!

The views!!

By J S |

Cindys was recommended by two colleagues. We went for lunch. Food was excellant however a limited lunch menu. The cocktails were delish.dont miss the dessert. But the views of the city. Amazing. We sat outside and had a drink in front of the fire pit. Well worth going to even if just for a cocktail.

Skip this tourist trap

By CavKA |

I had heard about Cindy's for a bit and with a visitor in town, we went. We didn't have reservations so waited a short bit in line to get to the elevator to go up. That was fine. Once up, we went to the balcony where they had a separate bar. We order two marguiritas and the bar tender mixed the drinks but did not put enough liquid. Instead of making a smaller second batch, he evened up the drinks so that each were just about 1/3 full. Now, this would be wrong in any bar but when you add a HUGE pricetag (they charged about $25 a glass), we were so angry and yes, I did say something to him but he ignored. Never again. And for the views, leaving aside anything to do with the bar tender, there are simply better rooftop bars in Chicago.

Have a glass of wine with a amazing view.

By Anne M |

Gorgeous view of Grant Park and the lake. We didn’t eat there. Waited an a organized line for the elevator for about 15 mins on a Sat night night. Got a glass of wine - took in the view for about 20 mins and then left. Enjoyable!

Superior Food and service

By Chaya S |

We were wowed by the customer service, the ambiance, the Andy Warhol painting, the views of Chicago and the food.

A must see!

By trishp623 |

We went here on a friday night around 11pm just for drinks. The place was def busy but the actual tables were not full by any means. We ordered drinks at the bar & planned to go outside & enjoy the view (which is amazing)! It was raining so we were only outside a short while. It was a little annoying that the tables all showed "reserved". I asked a host & he was nice and said we could sit as long as no one else wanted to dine (although there were many open tables) & the kitchen was closing so...it's got a great vibe, we saw a couple that just got married & everyone was in a good mood. If anything you must visit the other bars at the Chicago Athletic Assoc (where this is located). The Game Room was fun too!

Great Rooftop Bar and Restaurant

By BRITOPSPIN |

Returned to my home city of Chicago for business and always heard that Cindy's was a must visit. I took my colleague on a Sunday night for drinks, and found that it wasn't too busy. Although it was January we were able to sit outside with the heaters. We loved the view of the park, and city skyline. Really enjoyed speaking to the bartenders who who were very professional and welcoming. Great selection of drinks too.

Memorable spot with great views!

By nickelcitygirl |

Located on the 13th floor of the Chicago Athletic Association (across the street from Millennium Park), this rooftop lounge was an amazing spot to enjoy views of Lake Michigan and the Bean. We didn’t eat here, but we had drinks on the outdoor terrace. Loved it!

Beautiful but Soulless

By jason v |

A+ views, atmosphere and presentation- but... every dish we had for brunch was disappointing. Steak was not seasoned, bagels were hard, biscuits with sausage gravy were dry, crumbly and greasy. They either don’t know or don’t care what the food is supposed to taste like.

What a view at Cindy's

By Laura Fiallo |

If you visit Chicago, Cindys rooftop is a must stop. Beautiful and breathtaking views of this amazing city. For dinner reservations is highly recommended. We had a few drinks on the outside balcony and enjoyed this family time and to top it WEATHER WAS GREAT.

Great drinks, food & views!

By PaulandJane10 |

Cindy’s is a great spot for drinks and/or dinner if you are visiting Chicago for a short break. Located on the top floor of the Chicago Athletic Club on S Michigan Avenue, it has a stunning view of Millennium Park and the Cloud Gate sculpture, and that whole part of downtown Chicago in general. We visited for dinner in early October, having a drink outside on the balcony beforehand and taking in the view, with a fire pit there to keep us warm. Inside the building is cosy with a great atmosphere. Staff and food were both excellent, with a nice menu. Highly recommended if you want a venue where the location adds something to the experience. I think you can only reserve a table 15 days before your visit, so be mindful of that, although it is definitely worth it.

A very special place!

By Erna |

We came here in the late morning without Reservation, so they could only let us out on the terrace, which we also wanted exactly that. Unfortunately, we had to wait an extremely long time for our drinks at the bar beforehand, especially the matcha latte seemed to be a challenge! I turn a blind eye because it was just extremely crowded and the staff at the border! Visually, this beautiful bar was the epitome of a hip American rooftop bar for me, and just to see that, it was worth coming here! On the small terrace we stood unfortunately in the blazing sun, it was almost unbearable but the drinks were good and the views of Millennium Park and Lake Michigan were worth it and made this one of the absolute best places in all of Chicago!

Amazing view! Great food and drinks

By Lauren L |

This was our first stop during our trip to Chicago! It was perfect to take in a view of the lake and park. The restaurant is small so I recommend a reservation if you want to eat. However, there is an open patio overlooking the lake that is standing room only so it is easier to pop in for a drink. Our food was good - hits were the crab cakes and oysters. Salad and fries were fine. I had a great ass of champagne with it.

Superb location

By whitstablewanderers |

We had a wonderful lunch in Cindy's, looking out at the amazing views of Chicago. This is a really fab restaurant with its glass roof, outdoor fires, and cosy blankets. I had a look around the athletics club after our meal, which is full of interesting nooks and crannies. Not to be missed.

Outstanding

By Richard M |

This was one of the highlights of our shot trip to Chicago. It was a beautiful day. The view from the balcony was to die for. The food was excellent. I had a the "secret burger" and my wife had the pastrami smoked salmon on a bagel. There are buildings is Chicago where you can take an elevator to the top for a fee. At Cindy's you get the view for free and spend the money on the food.

Never Again

By Suz B |

Service is slow. Several minutes before we received water, several more before we asked for our server. I’m a person who doesn’t care for servers who have an attitude, one where you act as though you are better than us. One member of our party asked about a specific item on the menu, the server didn’t try to hide their haughty amusement that they didn’t know what it was. Server was slow, at least 15 minutes before we received our drinks. Ate our meal and were ready to order dessert, again no sign of our server. Needed to box up our dessert and she couldn’t be bothered to box it for us, even though our lunch food was boxed up by another staff member. View is nice, menu is limited. Chicken was fatty. Prices are high, but when you have top service I don’t mind, today I minded.

Great Spot for Art Institute or Millennium Park

By Mark M |

Stopped for a mid-afternoon break. Very good drink menu and non-alcoholic menu. Jasmine tea was prepared perfectly. Views are amazing. What a treat!

Awesome views and excellent food - what a great combination

By Amy C |

Cindy's View and food - keeps us coming back - time after time! We always make time and a reservation at Cindy's for each and every trip we make to Chicago. Colette was an exceptional server! We enjoyed cocktails - Teeling single pot old fashioned and ketel one cucumber mint. Appetizer was salmon carpaccio. We shared an entree of green curry prawns and loaded baked potato. Ended the night with a fantastic view and Boston Bual Madeira! Excellent meal and view - cannot go wrong here!

Excellent food and view of the city

By dahlia8 |

I found a last minute reservation for 6 guests. They seated us at a big table next to the fireplace. The room was warm and cozy. The burrata with beets was delicious and the grilled gem lettuce was excellent but the fried whole branzino was not only impressive in the presentation, it was delicious as well. Service was wonderful and the view during the day and evening can’t be beat

Amazing views / lively bar atmosphere

By Socal2112 |

Amazing views! Not sure what I expected, and may have been where we were seated but felt like we were in a bar rather than a restaurant. Fairly limited menu (check on line) and few veggie options. Staff were amazing, service was great and views were 10/10. Def bar vibes so if that’s your scene you will love it.

A perfect place to enjoy a cocktail after a day of exploring the city.

By Miguel Benitez |

The is the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring the beautiful attraction located in the area. The location is unbeatable. The service is amazing and the cocktails are excellent. Also, the view from here is tremendous!

great roof top with amazing view

By CEXAR1981 |

excellent roof top great service price for drinks on point food quality A+ great bartman and servers I really recomend to visit this great place

Terrible!

By LiamMacD |

If I could rate this experience 0/5 then definitely would. Queue was 35 mins to get in for a drink. Once in we were asked for ID(first place in Chicago to ask!) told the staff member that mr and my fiancé were here on holiday, and that our only ID was our passports and we weren’t taking them out and carrying them around with us. I then said would a picture of our passport be ok? She said yes, as I handed over my card to open a tab she then changes her mind and tells me she needs a physical form of identification. Staff were very standoffish from the get go and were not welcoming at all, except the lift attendant and the female at the reception desk. We were asked to leave after no form of identification “could” be provided.

Worth the Wait!

By Michele Y |

Went here after touring The Art Institute for a light lunch, afternoon cocktail and view of Millennium Park! Surprised that we had to wait 35 minutes for the elevator after the lunch rush, but so glad we did. Enjoyed the cocktails and split the fabulous burger and fries. Beautiful view of the park!

Pro and Cons for Cindy’s in Chicago

By Tracy G |

Pros: The food is flavorful and very unique. Our server was great and he was able to explain the dishes to us in detail and make recommendations. Cons: The table we were seated at had people on both sides of us. They were touching, like you had set up seating for a party. We could not have a private conversation, and we could hear other’s conversations on both sides of our table. This is not a restaurant for a romantic dinner. There were plenty of empty tables to spread out and this is not a large restaurant. The weather was rainy so we wanted to wait until we were done with our meal to step outside and get a picture. A very rude man, who I assume was the manager, said they were closing and would not let us outside for a quick picture. This would have been understandable if we were the only ones in the restaurant. 5 tables still had people dining, and the bar was full. I can’t tolerate rude behavior. There are too many fantastic restaurants in Chicago with great views. We will not be returning due to the rudeness we received. We come to Chicago a lot and make reservations to people we know who are coming to the city. We like to try new restaurants. It is just sad that people have to be rude.

Lovely bar, pity about the reception staff who were just plain rude.

By Jayne E |

A great bar and fab views. The bar staff were excellent, the charcuterie board delicious and view fab. I have had to score down due to the miserable door staff that made us feel like second rate citizens. We spent a lot of money on cocktails and food but we’re told on two occasions that we could only sit at the bar. In the hour and a half we were there no tables were occupied …. The team seriously need to organise how they accommodate guests and make them feel more welcome….

Only Wines at the Beautiful Cindy’s

By The_Loup_Garou |

Only Wines at the Beautiful Cindy’s I had visited Cindy’s for the first time, about a year ago, and had planned to have lunch there with my wife on this April visit. Though it was early Spring, it was a lovely, albeit cool day, and she had a couple of hours between meetings - ideal for a lunch, overlooking Millennium Park and Michigan Ave. Unfortunately, my plans crashed, when an emergency meeting was sandwiched into her schedule, and lunch would be brought in - I was suddenly solo, but after dining at the hotel (by myself), decided to revisit Cindy’s, and save a lunch date with my wife, for another trip. Cindy’s is a rooftop restaurant/bar, atop the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel, at 12 S Michigan Ave - just across from Millennium Park. The venue is lovely, but the views are THE draw - oh, they do have a nice B-T-G wine list too. As there was still a decent lunch crowd, even with the cool, I just sat at the bar, and looked over the wine list: First, the Domaine Bernard Defaix Chablis (Chardonnay) Then, the Darioush “Caravan” Cabernet Sauvignon Both were interesting wines, and were hold-overs on the B-T-G list, from my previous visit, just a year later vintage - glad they kept the great ones! My bartender was fun, and very efficient, and I had a lovely afternoon, even if my wife was dining on delivered pizza, or whatever. I still have plans for a lunch date with her, and maybe on the next trip?

Not so good...

By Fanny G |

This was really a tourist trap… the food was beneath contempt unfortunately, our waiter was completely lost and you felt forgotten, they also started wiping our table when we were still sitting, which gave us a feeling of not being welcome. The room was beautiful but an unnecessarily high noise level. This is a place to have a drink on the balcony and nothing more!

Horrible server, trumped good food

By Bea Kissinger |

Having been to Chicago every year, I learned my lesson and made sure we made reservations for Cindy's a month in advance. We came for a celebration, and we left with a bad taste in our mouths. When I made the reservation, I was informed that the kitchen would be closing at a certain time and made it a point to ensure that everyone looked over the menu so we would not hold anything up. I had the entire table's order within minutes of seating to make it as smooth as possible because we value everyone's time. The moment Christian (our server) saw our excitement to be in Chicago and the fact that one of our girlfriends had traveled all the way from Ibiza, Spain, he greeted us with the most irritated and irked attitude. We are not sure if he was offended by her inability to communicate in English because he said some racially insensitive things. He stated that he did speak Spanish but wanted to make sure no one knew. Throughout the night, he mocked all Spanish words. We ordered: King Crab and Lobster Salad Potato Gnocchi Halibut Prawns Nayarit 32 Oz Tomahawk Steak Patatas Bravas Fresh Baked Cookies Annndddd 2 drinks per person. We did not skimp on the ordering; however, even though the food was good, we couldn't get over the bad taste the server gave us and left the restaurant feeling very upset. I despise complaining... So this one was a hard one for me to write. We do hope to come back and give them another shot without Christian as our server.

Not going on the fave list anytime soon

By Megan B |

Great cocktails, ambience and views, but our food took forever (we only ordered soup and salad) and the soup was lukewarm. We likely won’t be back.

Great View. Great Drinks. Great Service.

By JPH007 |

I love Cindy's. I've been several times but I've never written a review, which I shold considering how many times I've recomended it to people when they menton to me they are going to Chicago. The view is spectacular. I was in Chicago for just a day and a half and wanted to bring my GF there for a quick drink. It was my first time having a mocktail, and it was delicious. The bartender ( I feel awful for not remembering her name. Woman with realy awesome dreads) was super nice and talked to me about what made the mocktail taste like an actual drink. She was very friendly and attentive. Everytime I'm in Chicago, I make time for Cindy's.

Great location and atmosphere

By Itinerant_Foodies |

We had reservations for an early lunch because this was the St. Patrick's Day weekend and we're glad we had the reservations! When we arrived at 11:15am, it was already busy but not full. By the time we left close to 1pm, it was packed, with people waiting to get to a table and the line at street level for the elevator was quite long. If you don't have a table, you can get cocktails and enjoy the view outside or at the bar area, but you can't sit and you can't order food. The two drinks we had, "No Substitutions" and "Figgy Stardust" were both excellent. We also had the Chicken Katsu Sandwich and the Spaetzle. Both were excellent as well and the sandwich was quite filling. Suki, our server was outstanding. She was very patient as it was our first visit and we had to labor over the drink and food options for quite a while. The food menu is very short but quality is great. And the view from inside close to the windows or from outside is worth the price of admission.

Amazing view, great location!

By Yesenia A |

I really enjoyed Cindy's! I went with a friend for drinks and I took my husband for lunch the following week. The service was really good and the food was excellent. The best part was the outdoor area with an amazing view of the millennium park and the lake. I would highly recommend it!

Stunning Views

By deestand |

Went for a Sunday brunch. Quality of food and service were excellent. A little on the expensive side, however, as a special visit with family, it was worth it. We had a rare 64 degree, sunny day in March so waiting for our table on the balcony was just awesome. Perfect to forget the cabin fever we had. Great overlook of the lake and Millenium Park. Cast Iron skillet & French Toast Special were delicious.

Great Bar with Fantastic Skyline View!

By Susan L |

Cindy's, located within the Chicago Athletic Association, offers a wide assortment of drinks and food in a fun and lively atmosphere. We enjoyed our hot toddies outside on the deck alongside the fire pit while taking in the fantastic view of Lake Michigan! And as you walk to the elevator, you are treated to beautiful architecture of a bygone era that includes a marvelous stone staircase. Definitely worth a visit!

Roof top Bar is beautiful, great selection of alcoholic and Non- alcoholic drinks

By bargin gal |

Love Cindy's, the service is the very best, our server Scott offered up ideas so that we could order according to our appetites and taste. The food was so very good, we will return when we go back to Chicago. The bar is outstanding with several non-alcoholic drinks that I enjoyed and a great bear selection for my husband.

Great views. Food and service just ok

By MRG554 |

The good - Cindy's has a great view. However, the food is just ok and is overpriced. And, unfortunately, the service was not good. We sat for over 15 minutes without a server. We had to ask two times and then finally got a server. Also, we also had to ask for utensils and napkins. This is basic stuff and Cindy's didn't deliver. Skip the restaurant and go for a drink and enjoy the view.

Food Was Off and Not Cooked Properly

By alison P |

I ordered the fish and chips and it was definitely off or had gone bad. I actually gagged when I was trying to eat it and didn’t finish any of my lunch. The waitress was so busy and rushed. She never even asked why I sent a full plate back. My stomach was upset for about 12 hours after and I only had two bites of the fish. Cool building and location but food was terrible. My son got burger and was bloody in middle. He was ok with it but from food safety perspective would not eat her again. For $80 for a burger, fish and chips and 2 diet cokes felt like you can do much better somewhere else. Probably worst lunch I have ever had.

So glad we made reservations!

By Empty Nesters GA-AL |

We visited Cindy’s during a quick weekend trip to Chicago and made reservations 30 days in advance for lunch after a morning tour of the Art Institute. This was a great decision because we were seated right away at a reserved table while many others were left to crowd around the bar and only able to have a drink. The burger and fries were very good, but our favorite was the bisque. Go for the view and the food, but make sure you make a reservation!

Make a reservation!

By SFlurry |

Walked in as a party of two and couldn't get a table. After 15 minutes of standing near the bar we were flagged down by the bartender for two empty seats! Great guy, great holiday drink. I ordered something holiday-y with vodka and he made it happen. I hear they make their own syrups for their cocktails. I will go back with a reservation so I can try the food!

Beware- bar WITHIN the restaurant is a separate entity from the restaurant itself

By Audrey M |

Reservations are a must. Everyone should also know (because you’re NOT informed when you make the reservation) that if you have drinks and food at the bar while waiting for your table the drinks and food are NOT transferable to your table. A few minutes after ordering food at the bar, our became available. We were told we couldn’t cancel our food order OR bring our food to our table which we had waited 45minutes for. Please train your staff to let customers know of this policy. This unfortunately left us extremely disappointed with the whole experience.

Very cool spot with lovely views and great food!

By allyo511 |

I really enjoyed lunch again here today with some business colleagues who were very surprised by Cindys! The light bright modern rooftop environment is quite a modern surprise inside the athletic club. The menu has fantastic offerings and the food is very tasty. I thought that the service was quite nice in terms of style and attentiveness. I love bringing friends and clients here because I think it’s a best kept secret of Chicago.

I cannot say enough good things!

By Von1287 |

We actually stayed here in the hotel because we knew we wanted to take advantage of the rooftop, the restaurant and the downstairs lounge. First off, the view from the upstairs balcony is spectacular. We went right before sunset so we got to watch the sky change and when it got dark the buildings lite up so beautifully. Before dinner we ran downstairs to the lounge to order the foot long chicago dog and it was so delicious! Our dinner back upstairs had great ambience and delicious flavors! Highly recommend! We will be back!

Great Time

By MRSTRAVELLER1 |

Absolutely loved Cindy’s, the diner on the rooftop of the Chicago Athletic Association. It was recommended in various travel guides & is clearly a very desirable venue. My visit was for their extremely popular Sunday brunch, which was booked up online. So I chanced a roll up on the dot of opening time at 10am ….. as did many others!! Cindy’s is served by its own lift, & there was already quite a crowd hoping to bag a walk-in table. I managed to scoop a chair at the counter & had a terrific experience, though to be frank, my enjoyment had little to do with the food. The brunch menu is hip, casual & eclectic …… my main dish, the quesadillas, was hearty, unsophisticated & thoroughly unmemorable, the Mimosa, bang average. But as a Brit on tour, the delight of finding somewhere serving a proper cup of English Breakfast tea went a long way towards making up for other shortcomings! Friendly, unpretentious service, the fantastic, low key but buzzy vibe, & the gorgeous setting & views, further added to the pleasure …. & I came away totally getting why Cindy’s makes all the Chicago ‘to do’ lists.

Delicious with a great atmosphere!

By Hurricane6 |

Atmosphere was great, our bartender Raul was awesome. Food was delicious. I had the pancakes and mimosas. The pancakes were so light and fluffy with maple syrup and fruit. I couldn’t help but eat them all! My husband had the not so secret secret burger and he enjoyed it as well. Definitely will go back!

Horrible food and service

By Cheryl C |

On my first trip in 15 months I visited my son in Chicago. He took me to Cindy’s Rooftop for my 65 birthday dinner. The food was horrible, small portions unless you want to double your price and add more, service was horrifically slow, almost nonexistent. He had been there before pandemic many times; food awesome then! Not worth wasting your $$$$$! It was not pleasant nor good. Never again. We had been to The Gage the night before; well worth it!!

A wonderful experience

By BellaGirl3 |

Cindy's Rooftop did not disappoint! It was an unseasonably warm day so my husband and I wanted to find a spot with a great outdoor view. We managed to grab a reservation and it was a great experience from start to finish. The service was exceptional, food and drinks were perfect, and the view from the terrace was unbeatable. It is a family-style menu, so it was fun to order a couple of things to share. The tables are indoors, but you can walk out to the terrace to take in the view while having a drink or waiting for your table. Highly recommend.

Cindy’s is AWESOME!!

By Dude Man |

Cindy’s is AWESOME!! Great rooftop view of Millennium Park. The drinks were excellent! They had fireplaces and seats out on the rooftop which was great! It was a lot of fun! My family loved it!

Best for cocktails

By Kapricca |

Awesome spot for drinks. Great view. Try to get there before dark and have a cocktail on the patio. There’s no seats so it’s designed just for a cocktail. Tables inside were cool and quickly design. Menu is small but apps were awesome! We just shared a bunch and everything was delicious! The bartenders are fancy and make awesome cocktails. Note this is in the Athletic Club so not easy to find. Really cool.

Great view for the price of a drink.

By danielleben2020 |

Great views, good food. Friendly staff. Gorgeous spot, understandly called the crown jewel of the Chicago Athletic Association.

Incredible views of Millennium Park!

By sm28185 |

Our wait in line wasn't too bad, as we were in the first floor lobby for maybe 15-20 min before being sent up. The views were as great as they appeared in pictures, though we did have to wait for others to move around a bit so we could actually stand next to the ledge and enjoy it ourselves rather than look over others. The service was slow, as they only had one person taking orders and another to actually make them.

Overhyped

By Yael H |

The drinks were great and the view unbeatable. At the same time, this place is overhyped and expensive. You can't see the view unless you're on the balcony and there is no seating outside. We wanted to get dinner but felt like it was overpriced.

A room with a view -- and Branzino, too

By Taylor B |

Jusr when my wife and I had decided to have lunch at the new, hip, stylish Cindy's Rooftop bar/restaurant in the landmark Chicago Athletic Association building at 12 South Michigan Avenue, between Madison and Monroe, across the street from Millennium Park, I noticed that the dinner menu included Branzino, one of my favorites. Change of plan. Open from 11 to 11 Monday through Thursday, 11 to midnight on Friday, 10 to midnight on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday, Cindy's offers tantalizing menus for lunch and dinner. How about lunch with potato bisque, walleye, shrimp and crab roll and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies? For dinner, we started with heirloom tomato salad with summer melon, cucumber, spiced yogurt, chickpeas, watercress and smoked tomato vinaigrette and grilled eggplant wth lime and fish vinaigrette, green beans, cucumber, pickled Fresno, shallot, mint and basil. I really enjoyed my whole fried Branzino, a delightfully meaty and tender and tasty Mediterranean sea bass, with farm greens, white cabbage Kimchi, sweet and spicy soy, mint, Cilantro, scallions and house pickles. With a loaded baked potato lwkth fontina cheese, bacon, onion jam, creme Fraiche, butter and chive and crispy mushrooms. My wife chose green curry prawns with chorizo, coconut milk, Cilantro, ginger, basil, fish sauce and grilled sourdough with a loaded baked potato and grilled asparagus. For dessert, we shared a large portion of black sesame pavlova with strawberry yuzu compote, black sesame ice cream, yuzo cream and Dragon fruit. With a view of the park and Lake Michigan.

Unbeatable View

By MarC25 |

It’s one of the toughest seats to get but the view is worth going through hoops. We managed to get a seating first hour on a weekday and we had the balcony to ourselves for quite a while and managed to take a lot of wonderful pictures of the Chicago skyline and the Bean. I was not expecting much about the food but these were good as well and reasonably-priced. Servings are large so you can share. We had their house salad, striped bass, smoked salmon and apple strudel. Everything was good except the bass which was too sour because of the beet juice. For such a hip place, service was wonderfully warm and attentive.

Sunday Brunch

By Julie C |

Cindy’s Rooftop is a must when visiting Chicago. We made reservations about 6 weeks ahead for a planned stay in Chicago. The atmosphere, service, food and drinks were amazing. The view from the rooftop is unbelievable. We have been to Cindy’s for dinner and brunch a few times. We have never been disappointed. We would highly recommend for couples and adult groups.

A great vibe and a lovely location.

We visited this place on our second night in Chicago. Our US friends knew of the place and recommended it. It is located opposite Millennium Park - see separate positive review - and has a dedicated lift in a building. I have no experience of New York loft life but this is a loft setting with a balcony overlooking Millennium Park. It has a lovely feel to the place. The staff engaged easily which added to our visit. They recommended local food options despite serving food for themselves. It is not a cheap place by any means but it is a good place to visit.

I enjoyed my visit and had some great drinks

By Kristina G |

The view from this rooftop restaurant is awesome. it was chilly and windy when we went there, but they had a fireplace outside to keep you warm

Getting there for the roof top and burger

By Nicole S |

Nice staff we arrived very late but they received us well👍. The burger was excellent brioche bread and Meat on top. The restaurant is not very welcoming Community Cooking Mood and noisy. Value for money a little high.

Be a Pub. Not a Restaurant.

By Minister-of-Food |

This place is busy only because it is a rooftop overlooking water. Its busy, packed and you can be easily overlooked like we were. My partner went looking for the server... Only at Cindy's has this ever happened to us. Reservations are recommended. The food menu did not look appealing to us so we did not order food, just a drink when we finally found a server. I'd say its good for drinks. Pub environment. Be a Pub, Cindy's... Not a restaurant.

Great food in a spot that can’t be beat.

Located on the roof of the Chicago Athletic Club on S. Michigan Avenue downtown. Reservations are hard to get. Every review talks about a “see and be seen” type of vibe. We experienced none of that. On a chance we set off to see if we could get a bar seat on Sunday brunch with no reservation. The front people were so nice. Sat us right down. Did say they needed the table in 90 minutes but that was no problem for us as we had a plane to catch. And the views and atmosphere are frankly stunning. They are smart enough to let the light and floor to ceiling glass windows do all the work. Great views of the museums, parks, downtown skyscrapers and Lake Michigan. With a fire pit on the veranda to let you go out and enjoy even on a cold day. And ok, the food. Fantastic brunch. We went with avocado toast and then the buttermilk pancakes with carmelized pears and a Mocha-like concoction on top. If I had more time and was not so stuffed I probably would have gone for chicken and waffles. But what we ordered satisfied. Frankly we could not finish it all. Service was great and pleasant. Tables are shared mostly but we had no problem with that. Wasn’t sure what to expect but not only did it exceed expectations, it was really quite quite good. And reasonably priced. We got out of there for $60 including tip. So glad we were able to fit it in. Highly recommend. It is worth the hype.

AMAZING VIEW..SERVICE and FOOD!

By AROUNDTHEWORLD! |

What a gorgeous place! The service by Brigitte was Top Notch Very professional and so friendly The food was very fresh and tasty with lots of flavors The cocktails are delicious with fine spirits We have a dinner twice in this restaurant in 6 days in this hotel and we absolutely love everything here. Don not miss this place A GEM ❤️

Breath-taking view

By Babette Axel |

A place worth visiting for the spectacular view of Millennium Park, which when illuminated in the evening offers an unforgettable experience. For the rest, the furnishings and the overall atmosphere give everything a very cool dimension, more suitable for young "instagrammable" couples than for the common customer. Good dishes, but with prices certainly above average, depending on the place you are in.

Bad service

By Julio C |

I would not recommend going to that place, the attention they gave was super bad in every way, we went to that place thinking that it would be something nice, it was not badly organized, super crowded, they did not want to give us a menu to order the food

Rooftop Relaxation

By pmlopez75 |

Cindy’s was a local guide’s recommendation. After my trip to the Willis Tower, and Art Institute of Chicago, I ended my trip to Chicago with a quick meal. I had heard that you need to make a reservation, but I took a chance on showing up at the last second (On a Monday, between 2-3PM). My wait was not long at all. The staff was friendly, the burger was delicious, and the view was amazing! It’ll be back the next time I’m in town. I highly recommend a stop at Cindy’s!

Cocktails with a story

By Andres V |

We attended the rooftop to get drinks after a conference and felt fascinated by the narrative behind each of the cocktails and the courtesy of the barman. Not only they shared with us the significance and inspiration for each cocktail, but the presentation and flavors in each of the cocktails were outstanding. I strongly recommend Tierra Roja cocktail that combines Uruapan charanda with mezcal, passion fruit, and lime.

Unable to Dine

By dmittleman |

Despite the fact that we were staying at the hotel in an upgraded room, we were not afforded the opportunity to dine here. We tried to make a reservation on line. We tried through the front desk. No one seemed to care. The restaurant is packed and there are enough walk in diners with a long enough waiting list that you cannot make a reservation-even if you are staying at the hotel.

Nice view, food now a complete joke

By Cas P |

Maybe it's post-COVID, but the food as gone from great to seriously bad. Used to be a top spot for unique, fresh food, but now they serve a really limited menu of fried foods and carbs, or mayo-based veggies, with limited service. Went through hoops to get a reservation for a birthday meal which turned out to be overpriced pub food. The views, of course, are amazing, and people will just come for the drinks. If you're looking for high priced food in the neighborhood, go elsewhere. Sad and disappointed.

Don’t waste your time or money!

By Peppy H |

The worst service I’ve ever had! Waited 1.5 hours for a lousy table only to be told there was no seating unless it was at the bar. Then could not order off the “bar menu” and had to order off the dinner menu which was twice as expensive! Ryan the bartender was rude and dismissive and got the drink order wrong twice! Edgar, the other hand, at least made an effort and apologized for the bad service. In CA this type of rude behavior would never be tolerated! At the end of our horrible experience, we actually went out on the balcony and got the view of millennium park we went there for! Food was mediocre for $50 wasted. Avoid this pretensious (undeserving ) place at all costs!

We only had drinks

By Hoops70s |

I ordered a coffee with Kaluaha and Cream and it was the best coffee I have ever had. We were thrilled to get into Cindy's - order a drink and enjoy time out on the balcony around the awesome - large firepits. It was a stop of many and I am so glad we went. I would like to repeat that experience again. There was a group of 7 ladies and everyone seemed to enjoy!

Nice food/drinks. Views!!! Expensive. Booking faff.

By susan2909 |

A little of a mixed review. The food was nice, we both had chicken & it was lovely. We opted for a cocktail, both were nice. The prices are high. The views are lovely. It was very noisey when we were there, there was some sort of midweek work type standing function but it made it hard to enjoy the atmosphere as it was loud. As an overseas visitor, the booking is a faff. I have to send a text (expensive for overseas visitors) confirming my booking, would be better to change that to email confirmation! Would i recommend it for a cocktail and a view, yes absolutely. Would i go again for dinner, not sure.

Poor Hostile Service

By STess05 |

The manager of the bar threw at a young woman who was just standing there while another woman yelled at her. I don’t know the circumstances, but from where I was sitting it didn’t look like the other woman had done anything wrong. It was my second time in this bar. I last went there in June 2024. I won’t be going back.

A MUST IF IN CHICAGO EVEN FOR A DRINK!

By BaldSerb |

This was a great spot for a night out including drinks on the 13th floor overlooking the lake and dinner. Market Price for food options wasn't bad for Chicago prices! Reservations are encouraged.

Great View!

By jwaldrop25 |

It was super crowded on a Friday night, which we expected. The cocktails were perfectly crafted, albeit a tad pricy. Again, we came expecting that. We'll be back for sure.

Great for the terrace and view

By liverpool1023 |

This busy spot has a great terrace heated by fire pits. The top floor location offers a great views across memorial park, the bean and out to the lake. We opted for the lunch here; my shrimp role was tasty number served with decent chips. A little on the pricey side but what the hey.

Beautiful views of Millennium Park

By scrjnke |

We went for lunch on our way out of town. Wanted the view and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was good, food was okay, service was kind of slow but friendly. Two of us ordered the soup/sandwich and it arrived at only room temp, which is never my choice for soup. Another friend ordered the Anjou pear salad, which she loved! To be fair, we had a schedule to keep for the airport so I'm sure that colored my impression of how responsive service was. The waiter actually planned a birthday dessert for one of us (which we were unaware of) so he was waiting to serve that to us but that person had to cancel so wasn't even with us.

Spectacular view

By 533slt |

This restaurant is a great place to go for a drink and apetizer. There is a wondrful view of Michigan Avenue and lake Michigan. Outdoor seating on a nice day is the best.

Delicious food at Cindy's

What accommodation! Roof terrace with views over the lake. We had a delicious meal. Stopped outside for a few pictures.

Surprising and Disappointing Treatment

By Christine F |

In Chicago for the weekend for my birthday. My husband made a reservation for the two of us for Sunday brunch at 10:15. When we arrived there were only three other tables seated. We asked if we could possibly be seated near the window. Instead we were not even seated in the main dining room and not near a window at all. My husband then went to ask the three hostesses again if we could please be seated elsewhere closer to a view. They asked us to wait 10 min. then proceeded to seat others behind us in line by the window. Then finally seated us in the row behind the bar!! I wouldn’t normally be upset but we had an early reservation, there were 8 tables for 2 by the window that were open and they literally would not seat us there. We were not rude and felt the request was not out of line since the restaurant was virtually empty when we arrived. Server was very nice, view was lovely, the food was pretty good but we were so upset to pay so much money and to be treated so badly!

Food, service and views… amazing

By Dawn S |

This place is absolutely beautiful. The entire atmosphere, view and food. I attended in a business setting with a group of colleagues for a celebration meal. Our waiter was amazing, very helpful and had a wonderful personality. The food was amazing. The menu is minimal but the quality is outstanding. This is definitely an upscale beautiful location to celebrate life.

Beautiful View

By divakern |

This is a great space for drinks or dinner. The view is so spectacular. It is a small restaurant, so reservations are necessary. This is a very busy spot!

Perfect

By Laura Z |

I absolutely adored everything about this place. When our group of friends decided to have brunch, we were fortunate enough to secure the cozy couch banquet by the window, which provided stunning views of the city. The terrace of this rooftop restaurant was truly breathtaking and became the standout feature of our visit. The food, reasonably priced yet delectable, further added to the overall experience.

Rooftop bar

By bcsystems |

While I would have liked to try the Top Chef restaurant's food, we came on a Saturday afternoon for dirnks. It is standing room only. Great views of Millenium Park and the lake. As expected, not cheap. Cocktails $18+ and beers $8+

Really pricy lunch but excellent views in a beautiful setting

By LynetteWicks |

Honey Bunny and I had a cocktail and brunch at this fabulous restaurant. Really lovely place and the views of Millennium Park and the Bean and Lake Michigan couldn't be beat. However, VERY pricy--a house salad that claimed to have "Baby Vegetable Crudité" but really was just a large bowl of dressed greens was $23--more expensive than the Aguachile which we also ordered. No idea how they came up with that pricing but greens just really shouldn't cost that much.

Great rooftop but reservation a must

By Pierre B |

We wanted a quick bite, late lunch with a drink. First they make you wait (the "order" you I should say!) in line before the elevator. they mentioned 30 min wait, which was pretty accurate. What they do not tell you however, is when you reach the restaurant, everything is reserved and you cannot get a table to sit down! It would have been nice to mention that downstairs. Our options were the overcrowded bar and the rooftop terrace, with nice gas fire places. We wanted to eat, so we asked the hostess for a table ( not offered at the first place). She mention a 15 min wait and put us on a waiting list ( I would get a text message, probably too hard to come and see us on the terrace). We grabbed a drink and proceeded to wait on the terrace. Great views on the park and the Cloud gate, After 25 min, seeing a few empty tables, I went to see the hostess... She said "oh yes - my phone number - not my name!!! and gave us a table...no smile, no manners. Clearly the test message thing was not up to par. The waiter was is the same level of friendlyness.. People find a job you like, if working with public is not your thing, then switch! there were few options of food past 2h30 pm. we opted for the cheese and charcuterie plater, which was pleasant enough. We aslo had a nice bottle of Chablis to go with that, Once at the table with food and wine the experience was really enjoyable. A really nice and cool place, but reserve if you want to eat. Personnel could be a lot more friendly, but the place is cool and vibrant.

Great views!

Delightful experience. Wait staff was eager to give recommendations and service was great. Awesome views over millennium park. My group of 6 had an early Saturday reservation at 5:45 and I had to book 3 days in advance. Definitely recommend to any group!

Beautiful View, Good Food and Service but Impossible to have a Conversation

By LindaInEvanston |

I was prepared to love-love-love Cindy's. We visited on a Saturday evening early (5:30P; a pre-concert dinner). Wonderful drink and wine menu. Interesting dishes. The food, wine and cocktails were good. but the sherried mushrooms and the roasted Brussels Sprouts were absolutely the best. Everything is presented beautifully and incredibly plentiful. Wait staff can be somewhat absent at times, but, when we experienced a problem with one entree and they were really wonderful about resolving the issue. The only unfortunate part of the experience (and the reason I'll probably never return) was the noise level. Thumping music so loud it was impossible to have a (two-way, LOL) conversation. With everything this restaurant has going for it, it is really a shame to spoil the experience with that level of noise. Why go out to dinner at such a lovely spot and not be able to have a conversation; it's baffling. We spoke with the Maitre d who said, oh, yes, we hear that alot. Really? Why don't you do something about it then? Disappointing. Was very good, as rated. Prices are high, deservedly so for the location and beautiful view, but when overlayed by the loud and pounding background, why ruin something so lovely?

Best rooftop!

By Lauren Butterfield |

I went here on Friday night and this has the best views of downtown Chicago. Even if the bar is crowded, the line will go fast because the bartenders make drinks very quickly. We didn't have a chance to grab anything to eat but all of the food did look really good though so I wish we would've had a chance to eat. Stop on by for a cocktail!

Fantastic Food, Perfect Location!

By Daryn C |

Our supper was fantastic! Fresh, tasty bruschetta was served first, then a rich carbonara pasta dish and a creamy, dairy-free chicken and mushroom risotto. The portions were well prepared and substantial. It was our first time here, and what a great find—only a short stroll from our hotel outside Temple Meads station. The experience was enhanced by the friendly and helpful staff. I heartily suggest it to anyone searching for real Italian cuisine in a handy location. Looking forward to our next visit!

Best servers EVER!

Annie and Erin made my dining experience a day to remember! Incredibly knowledgeable and impeccable service. Those two and their rizz made my day. Can’t wait to come back!

Great view and small plates

By Jennifer G |

We went here because of the outdoor patio. Unfortunately dinner wasn’t served out there (at least not on a warm day in Feb). However the cocktails and view were amazing. We also had a few appetizers inside and half portions were plenty. The bass appetizer was very unique and really great!

Fun surroundings, great view, good food

By dgkukal |

Great fun, excellent ambience, wonderful view. And the beet salad was my favorite meal of the entire visit to Chicago - and we did a lot of restaurants.

Beautiful

Stopped by for drinks in an absolutely beautiful day of sightseeing. The roof top bar is gorgeous. The drinks were excellent.

Ok

By Chance L |

Nice enough. The food was ok but the view was wonderful. It was busy so not much focus from the staff. Perhaps they should hire more people so that patrons can be better tended to. No one likes to be ignored. Especially when posting for overly priced food.

Mediocre for the price

By GMatt |

Disappointing service (not attentive) and horrible seating (shoved in a corner against a girder). Food was great, however the experience was disappointing.

Lunch with a view

By SwedenLondon |

After having Cindy’s recommended we went there for lunch in our first day in Chicago. The restaurant/bar is buzzing and we were lucky to get a great table from where we could enjoy the view over Millennium Park and Lake Michigan. We went for the house Ceasar salad and the shrimp roll - both delicious. The service was very attentive. Loved this place.
