My son works in Georgetown and really wanted to try this new hip restaurant. This made me a little nervous. Seattle is known for its hip restaurant scene that doesn't always deliver on the taste...Ciudad falls into that category. It is a small, very casual space with minimal...and I do mean minimal... parking. We circled the blocks for about 10 minutes and still ended up walking quite a distance. The draw is supposed to be fantastic grilled meat, and well good, it was incredibly overpriced and they charge you for everything. Corn - $12 . Basically grilled Mexican corn on the cob that I can get other places for half the cost Cauliflower - $11 This was so bad we each took one bite and sent it back. Hanger Steak - $36 Good, but the kicker is that they charge you for the sauces $2 Each! The chimichurri that should accompany the meat at no charge was small and was not that special. It just didn't warrant charging extra. Overall we ended up spending $56 + tip for an ear of corn and a platter of meat (they removed the cauliflower) and left hungry. As we were walking back to our car we passed a small street taco store front and for a few bucks bought tacos that were much better than the expensive lunch.

Must clarify my rating... would have been a 4 The food was great. We had the cauliflower and Brussel sprout dishes which were wonderful. The Brussel sprouts were some of the best I have eaten. We followed up with the chicken, lamb and beef kafta and the hanger steak. Again, grilled perfectly and very tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful. The bartender delivered drinks to our table and double checked that cocktails met our expectations. Manager also checked on us. So the #3 rating was based that we were uncomfortably cold and kept our jackets on the entire time, mainly because of the wind/cold every time the door opened. There really isn't a decor what so ever and the place is small. That being said, it looks like summer offers more opportunities for outside dining and fun. Would definitely wait for warmer weather next visit.

Food paradise for all . From the minute you smell the smoke from the grill wafting up the street, you’ll know you have arrived at a top notch dining place. The menu is simple with plenty of mouthwatering options for everyone in your group . The meat 🥩 🍗 and pork were perfection and the peach mostarda was a tastebud delight . Great location, ambience and high quality dishes for a reasonable price.

I've been hesitant to review Ciudad because it's small and I'm afraid we'll never get in again if people realize just how good this place is. All of the food is cooked over a fire with coal brickets. Take a look back in the kitchen to get a sense of just how much fuel they go through. The proteins are sold by the half pound, a nice way to figure as a table how much you'll eat. Don't skimp. You will love everything - the pork, vegetables, and the drinks - oh the drinks - the bar is outstanding. Service is fantastic. So many Seattle restaurants are pretentious. Not Ciudid. It's a genuine pleasure to eat there.

The smell is heavenly! We ordered three veggie dishes and that was plenty for two. Don’t miss the cauliflower is was amazing. Mushroom dish seemed a bit undercooked? Potatoes were yum!

I am stingy about five star reviews but this is the third one I’ve done since I arrived in Seattle. Ciudad is a small place in the blossoming culinary neighborhood of Georgetown, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Seattle and one which is a rapidly gentrifying warehouse district. The name sounds Mexican but it has Mediterranean, Lebanese, Spanish and other grilled delights. Most of the dishes are tapas sized. Everything we had was wonderful. Yummy patatas bravas, scrumptious fava bean falafel with a delicious smoked yoghurt sauce, grilled halloumi with grilled peaches and charred onions, a flatbread platter with grilled octopus (perfectly done) and chicken and a selection of six sauces: chimichurri, harissa, smoked yoghurt, aioli, honey and soy sauce, and a sauce of grilled red pepper and preserved lemon. We also enjoyed a carrot margarita that was terrific with or without tequila. We left with an inner smile which means the food was made with some love and some joy—and that gets five stars from me. Service was prompt and friendly. At this time there is a firm policy requiring masks and certification of COVID vaccination. The total bill for four was $134.

My friend and I recently chose to dine at Ciudad in the Georgetown area of Seattle. The menu looked appealing and it had great reviews. We were not disappointed. We easily found street parking and though the restaurant was hopping and the wait list substantial we were able to find room in the bar. The staff was excellent at recommendations which we pretty much followed- good choice. We tried their flatbreads which were so well-seasoned and a trio of dips. We also tried the code-brined smoked pork, chorizo and a baked cheese appetizer that was to die for. So many other things we could have ordered which means we must go back. They also had quite an extensive list of reasonably priced wines by the glass.

Great food in Seattle neighborhood that is on the rise. Friendly staff and welcoming outdoor dining. Small planes landing at nearby small airport but even my doggie got accustomed to this rather quickly.

Truly and completely WONDERFUL! I dined here with a few friends and and tried several appetizers, entrees, and drinks. Absolutely everything was delicious with some really interesting and new flavors I’d never think to combine. Surprise favorite was the cauliflower - SERIOUSLY could have eaten my weight in this. Carrot margarita was also a hit! The space was small but cozy and we enjoyed every part of the experience. They also asked for proof of vaccination which made us feel safer dining inside! I would recommend Ciudad to anyone.

First heard of Ciudad through a shoutout that Rick Bayless gave it on his Instagram page. We ate at Ciudad for lunch and everything surpassed our expectations. The aromas from the outside grill that greeted us raised our level of anticipation as we entered the restaurant. The menu is filled with shareable plates. We ordered three vegetable plates and the carrots and snap peas was my favorite with the cauliflower plate being a close second. The grill features a variety of meats and we each ordered 1/4# portions. Chorizo, lamb, chicken and steak were what we selected and all were delicious. I would order any of those again. Sam our waiter was very helpful in guiding us through our selections. The atmosphere inside was bright on a grey day thanks to a skylight. We enjoyed the bright colors and murals on the wall. Can't wait to return with an even larger group of friends and family.

A delicious spot for dinner in Georgetown. Our party of 6 shared a pound of the hangar steak and a pound of the chicken thighs plus the green salad and flatbread, complemented by 4 of the delicious sauces.my favorite was the yoghurt sauce, I felt it went very well with the steak. Our server was very attentive and we ate outside on the patio which was wonderful except it is right under a flight path so there was some noise to contend with at times. Everything was delicious and I’ll definitely be back!

Ciudad is located in the vibrant entertainment section of the Georgetown area of Seattle. Much of the bar/restaurant is outdoors. For shade on a hot day, the four of us ate indoors enjoyed several starters and entrees. For starter tappas, the cucumber salad was good, and the dolmas were great (we ordered another plate). The four grilled plates - farm veggies, chicken, lamb and prawns were all tasty. We had a various vegetable sides. The server was friendly and efficient.

This is a very unlikely place to find really great food. There is an outdoor grill where everything is cooked. Small interior with friendly service and NO TIPPING ALLOWED. Small plates that are bursting with flavor. For four people we had the following dishes and were full, Dolmas of farro wrapped in collards Shishito peppers with melon and blue cheese Chicken cooked under a brick Lamb cooked over the coals Bratwurst and house kraut Grilled flatbread chimichurri, black garlic and burnt honey dressings. We were too full to even check out the dessert menu. We will definitely make this a place to return to.

Sadly, since the reviews were initially good. (They are not now) we decided to go here. It was a poor decision. The food made us both throw up when we got home. The waiter was a little offhand as I have heard before on previous reviews.. Michael Gaytan, I think owns it or is a major shareholder was simply dismissive of us. We felt as though we were invading his house. Simply appalling in every way.

Great small plate (but the small plates aren’t that small!) spot primarily focusing on grilled meats. Lots of unique sauces are available to add even more flavor to the perfectly marinated and grilled meat options (available by weight). Good drink selection. Don’t miss dessert; I had a peach cake that made me want to double up on dessert. Nice, invigorating space. Pretty close to Sea-Tac, definitely possible if you’ve got any sort of 3+ hour layover. I shall return.

We went with 4 adults & 4 kids on a Saturday evening . Loved the feel. Some of the food was great - the rest was average. I'm not big on Octopus but I could have eaten the entire plate to myself. Same goes for the haloumi & marinated steak. The rest, 3 vegetable dishes, chicken, flat bread, dips, dates, they were all ok but nothing to race back for (btw I usually devour vegetable dishes) The Muhallebi was nice but again... Maybe we are spoiled as we live in Adelaide South Australia where there are plenty of cheap Afghanistan restaurants with superb food. Again we enjoyed our meal overall & would go again if invited but personally wouldn't book it for ourselves.

We had a fabulous lunch at Ciudad. Several unique and interesting choices. The food was well prepared--many items to mix with others. We had several small plates which included a starter with a flatbread and baba ganouj, salad with arugula and citrus, tasty dressing, a meat platter with chorizo, skirt steak, and a different one with lamb/beef meatballs. Dessert was marcona almond pie...the whipped topping had a lot of nutmeg, ok if you like that, but a somewhat strong flavor. Good quality coffee accompaniment. All in all an excellent meal.

This restaurant came recommended by my brother and HOLLY SMOKES - expectations were exceeded. We ordered the lamb riblets, chicken, steak, flatbread and 3 sauces. The smoked yogurt paired perfectly with the chicken and bread, and the chimichurri sauce went great with the steak. We ordered the spicy carrot margarita which paired well with everything! It was different than a drink I might normally pick, but that made it all the more enjoyable for me. Our server was very friendly, helpful and checked in on us frequently to make sure we were enjoying the food. Can't wait to come back!

Michael Gaytan was probably the rudest, off hand and frankly dismissive of staff I have ever had the displeasure. Food was a long time coming and was almost inedible on arrival. Reservation was originally lost but fitted us in with a shrug. I wouldn’t bother

Casual fun delicious tapas. Most foods are grilled outside the front door. Outstanding flavors with everything we had. Shishito peppers with lamb meatballs, flatbread, chicken, hanger steak. All were mouth watering. We had a table indoors which was artsy, airy and bright. Outside dining also looked fun. We definitely will return. In a city of food this is one of our favorites.

We went for the first time for lunch. This is a small plate shareable dining spot in an old brick building with lots of sun light through the skylights. We first partook of their homemade ginger beer that was churning and brewing in a glass jar in the corner. It was so delicious. Next we shared a flash fried cauliflower with a tasty sauce. (I could make a meal of this) Then we ordered house made flatbread to wrap our cider brined pork and hanger steak. These were crispy grilled and served with a choice of amazing sauces. THIS is a real gem for locals but also close to Museum of Flight for visitors. We can't wait to go back.

Had the grilled hangar steak and flat bread with the cooked Brussel sprouts. Everything was great! Hard to find a place to park. The flat bread is freshly made on site.

This is a terrific restaurant and bar in Georgetown just south of Seattle. The decor is eclectic, festive and fun and the food is fabulous. Three of us dined and made the decision to allow the chef and our server to select our dishes. The flavors literally explode in your mouth and are divine. We had three different kinds of Portuguese grilled marinated meats, grilled haloumi cheese, hummus, homemade flatbread, the list goes on and on. There is an outdoor bar and patio which looks very inviting on a pleasant day. Do yourself a favor and try this place.

Small but interesting menu. We tried all the dips. The lebnah was great. We had three meats and they we all tender and tasty. Brussels sprouts rocked! Cauliflower was blah.

Small space in the Georgetown area among other hipster restaurants, this one is worth a visit. Same menu for lunch or dinner and they are open from lunch to dinner without closing for break in between. Interesting cocktails along with beers and wines. You will see the outdoor grill area where the meats are cooked as you walk thru door to inside. So many unique tasty small dishes that its best to go with a few people so you can order array of items to share. The grilled meats come in option of 1/4 or 1/2 to full lbs. Additional sauces you can order are pretty small. I would take a pass on those. Almost all the dishes are so flavorful, the additional sauces are not necessary in my opinion. However, do get the flatbread with all 3 dips. Those are more sizeable and we brought home what we couldn't finish. This is one of those places that's great if you're dining with a veggie and meat lover. You can general find street parking nearby.

This was our first experience at Cuidad and will not be our last. We had the patatas bravas (potatoes), the grilled kofta beef + lamb meatballs with smoked yogurt, pickled peppers, feta, and fresh herbs , prawns shawarma spiced shrimp, lemon and fresh mint, chorizo pork olympia provisions smoked pork chorizo, uli's merguez spicy beef + lamb sausage and the flatbreads with hummus, labneh and the baba ghanoush. The four of us were stuffed and very happy with everything. Highly recommended

Octopus was cooked PERFECTLY!!!! Hard to do and this hidden gem has sooo many different flavors! The flatbread and dip is a special treat with three different flavors is a must try!

Oh the flavors! Remarkable house cocktails with unique ingredients (limited choices). The meats are grilled on wood outside the back door. Great opportunity to share several dishes.. If you like octopus, don't hesitate, as this was superb. The brussel sprouts are special as well. Frankly you can't go wrong, and make sure to get some of the dipping sauces. Lunch and dinner share the same menu. I've enjoyed Ciudad for both meals and equally satisfied with each! Yes, service is slow, but haste makes waste, and patience certainly pays off! A small kitchen puts out a lot of food, but it takes time to do this well. Your taste buds will taste food found no where else in Seattle. Best characterized as Portugese.

We had tried to get in at least two times prior and it was Three Times a charm. We were finally able to get in last Saturday night. The restaurant had a long wait, so they invited us to visit the bar around the corner. What a fun find! Great bartenders. The Porch patio drink hit the spot! Just as we were finishing our drinks, our seats at the bar became available. Sam, the bartender, was fun, informative, and professional. Quite the combo! We shared 1/2 a chicken accompanied by charred brussel sprouts and some flat bread. Everything was delicious! Great Middle Eastern flavors. A little too salty, but fresh and tender chicken accompanied by the most imaginative preparation of brussel sprouts — ever! Will definitely return, and will ask for a little less salt.

What a delicious meal!! We three sat at the bar and ordered small plates, all of which were delicious. Bottle of rosé was fab, and the decor/vibe is very cool. We highly recommended.

Eats and drinks here with a friend was enjoyable. Service was good, my drink was tasty and so were the items we got to much on. I'm giving a lower score due to their lack of sustainability in this beautiful, earth friendly city. I forgot to say "no straw" with my drink so it came with one. Straws are a cost that any restaurant can save on. They aren't needed to consume a beverage, and have a negative impact on the environment since they cannot be recycled and often end up in the ocean. It would be great if this place could join the movement to eliminate single use plastic waste and be "strawless in Seattle" by only serving straws upon request. Consider using paper straws instead or adding to your menu "Straws available upon request." Both staff and patrons will be helping save the planet one sip at a time. In addition, I was highly saddened to see all of the disposable items that our food was served in. The restaurant clearly has a dishwasher, so metal, glass or ceramic dishes would be a reasonable replacement... it would cost the restaurant less in the long run, and save our planet since single-use disposable items still require resources to produce.

The restaurant is beside hundreds of garbage containers. It's an old warehouse with no windows. Not clean, not pretty. When you are eating behind you it's a back and forth of garbages and cases. The manager is unfriendly.

A large group of us stopped by Ciudad in the mid-afternoon for food and drinks. Fortunately we were between lunch and dinner hours, so they had no problem putting together a long table for us. For simplicity and because everything on the menu looked interested, we opted for the Chef's Choice for food, and ordered drinks individually. The food was a long parade of tasty, very nicely presented foods with culinary influences from all over the map. Early warm-ups were roasted nuts, a selection of olives with pickled peppers and roasted garlic, and hummus with three toppings served with freshly grilled flatbread. Other vegetable plates that followed were a saffron cauliflower with pomegranate molasses that was quickly devoured (even by me, despite my usual aversion to cauliflower), a chard salad with a piquant relish, and some delicious Brussels sprouts. The meats that were brought to our table were a succulent smoky chicken, a hangar steak cooked just right, grilled shrimp, and house-made chorizo. Overall, everyone was a fan of each dish, and we stuffed ourselves pretty well. Two diners even ordered to-go items to take home to spouses. Some cocktails were deemed a little _too_ creative by a few people, but I say if you order a beet-flavored margarita, don't be surprised when it tastes like beets.... They do have a full bar for more traditional options, too. I expect to return with friends to further explore the menu. The small-plate format offers an opportunity to sample many of these delights in a single meal. While this is not an inexpensive restaurant, we thought the price was very reasonable for our feast.

This place is a must go to. Among all the places in Seattle this is something special. Great food! Amazing food!

We had nine of us here for lunch on a cold day, so their extensive outdoor space was not an option. Looks like a booming place in good weather with huge outdoor space with added cooking options. They have an extensive full bar with designer cocktails, many wines and lots of beer (it is Seattle after all). We left fully sated. Lots of interesting food. Not super cheap, as we spent about $300 with tax and tip for nine. Their flatbread sandwiches are quite good and large. Appetizers from very good to amazing, especially the cauliflower.

Highly recommend the flatbread with 3 dipping sauces and the Octopus. Great drinks as well. The patio is nice.

Delicious food, great service and terrific atmosphere. Our Airbnb host recommended this place and we had an incredible dinner. They have an outdoor grill that makes your order on the spot. The saffron cauliflower is to die for! we tried 3 or 4 dishes from Their menu and they were all superb! The service was also very good. The waiter was super professional and provided a detailed explanation every-time he brought a dish. The flat breads are bomb!

The smells from the large charcoal grill in the anteroom to Ciudad’s dining room in Georgetown provided a welcome respite from the rain. We were seated at the bar where Chira brought us menus, explained a variety of pairings from the grill with flatbread, sauces and vegetables for a shared dining experience. We combined small portions of tahini marinated chicken and the citrus brined pork collar with chimichurri, smoked yogurt and romesco sauces on flatbread with the saffron cauliflower & sweet onions and grilled gem lettuce for an amazing dinner filled with tasteful delights. We loved the friendly atmosphere, banter filled with suggestions from the waiters, the unusual flavors and the amazing torrija for desert. It’s a caramelized brioche with an almond filling and pumpkin jam that provides a great finish to a wonderful meal. We loved the grilled meats and flavorful vegetables and friendly vibe at Ciudad. We’ll return to try more dishes.

I work in SODO and often eat lunch in Georgetown. I have walked/ driven by Cuidad often lately and was under the mistaken impression that it was high end street tacos. Today, a coworker and I actually ate there and the reality was an unexpected delight! The menu is small, but well designed. We had flatbread sandwiches which were generously proportioned and very flavorful. I had the braised rabbit and she had the lamb. Both were excellent. Next time, I look forward to sampling the small plates for happy hour. They appeared to have a decent, if small, selection of ryes and bourbon, which is what I look for. There are a lot of great destinations in Georgetown and I am adding this one to my list!!

Having been to the Ciudad once, with old hiking friends, today I took my wife there for lunch. She loved it, as did I. We loved it all, particularly the roasted sunchoke, the saffron cauliflower and the salted cod fritters. The pork flatbread was outstanding, as had been the hanger steak when I ate there last month. Though I thought the crispy brussel sprouts were a bit too spicy, neither my wife nor my hiking companions thought so. (In fact, one of my hiking companions said that dish is a "must eat".) The service was excellent, though finding a parking space was a bit challenging.

Staying in south Seattle we were struggling to find a good place to eat. Came across this on Google Maps, have it a try with no prior knowledge. Food was amazing, the pork is a definite 10/10. We’re two rugby girls and order 2 meats (1/4 lb), shared a salad and 3 flatbreads. Good enough portions to leave us satisfied, and not overly stuffed. Price wasn’t too bad either!

First time to here and had an amazing experience. The parking can be tough on time of day, but once you're in the restaurant, the ambiance and food are amazing. I had the humus and olive appetizer along with some of their mouth watering watering steak from the grill. High quality ingredients and great tasting food!

We had a decent size party so we ordered a bunch of apps and meats to share. Everything we ordered tasted great and the waitress gave us the perfect recommendations on how much to order to feed everyone. The tables were spaced well apart and they had the doors open so there was plenty of fresh air coming in. Everyone really enjoyed the atmosphere and especially all the delicious food.

Food was delicious. Great grilled meats and middle eastern dips. The grilled chicken was a highlight. Service was super friendly and made us feel right at home with our three boys.

The food is off the charts creative with a pan-Mediterranean flair. We shared 8 dishes among the 3 of us;all had amazing flavors. Plenty of seating inside and out. Colorful decor--feels like a fiesta! There actually was a street party going on the evening we were there. Would go back in a heartbeat.

A wide selection of food that is from all over the Med and down to Bali. Check out the chicken wings. They are not to be believed. Amazing. Fun place. Don't miss this.

The food was so good and so interesting. My colleague and I ate lunch with amazing service and helpful ideas about what to eat. It became a must return for both of us. I am a boring eater.. this got me trying and enjoying.. loving their great variety.

We were already amazed at the great range of eating available in Georgetown, Seattle, then came across a review of recently opened Ciudad in a free newspaper and decided to try it out. The restaurant & bar are in a less than encouraging back street - but that's the fun of Georgetown. Eating and drinking places pop up in the most unlikely surroundings but still manage to delight. Ciudad is one of these. It's not quite tapas, but you are encouraged to choose one dish each from each section of the menu. We tried grilled chicken and lamb, with grilled potato and a tomato/cheese dish, and for sides had flatbreads and apricot with mushrooms. We also had the chef's selection of sauces (3 for $5). The flavours were delicious! They complemented each other and although none of the portions were huge, we were full by the time we finished. We also tried the two desserts - one based on grilled peach, the other on figs. Both great too! The bill came to $80 - with no tipping to add. The menu states that staff are well paid and any tips left go to charity. Service was attentive and quick. So - if you are in the area, looking for a quality meal, do consider Ciudad. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely delightful find! The gilled meats and veggies were cooked to perfection. You can order different sauces to customize your dish. We had the lamb, the octopus, the tomato with feta as well as the grilled peaches for dessert. I would recommend it all! The place is casual and priced well for what you get. It really is as good at it gets.

Georgetown is an industrial district of Seattle that is becoming a mecca for odd, interesting restaurants. A friend wanted to try this one after reading a review in the paper. I can see that it would be fun in the summer to dine outside in the large seating area, but on a damp, chilly Seattle day we had no choice but to eat inside. The food was modern, well done and interesting, but I couldn't get over the chilly, uncomfortable seating and the concrete walls. The paintings on the walls, reminiscent of dia de los muertos, were bright and colorful, but other walls are unadorned. Our server was very pleasant and helpful. The menu is quite small, but with well-chosen and interesting options. Flatbread, reminiscent of a Greek pita, was very good. Since we were there for lunch, we were offered only open faced sandwiches on the flatbread, or small (VERY small) salads. Grilled lamb is one of our favorites and my husband's was excellent. Another in our party chose chicken "under a brick," also excellent. I had a beet salad with "pickled walnuts." I would like to know how they made these delightful little adornments. Portions are fairly small so I don't recommend making a meal from one of the salads.

Lots of small plates and flat breads to share. Hummus, eggplant, labneh, grilled halumi. Wonderful deep fried cauliflower. Owner is very nice and stopped to chat with us.

Really enjoyed many menu items from the calimari, beef and lamb meatballs, spinach salad and multiple sauces used with meat and pita breads. Good drinks and wine selection . The fried cauliflower was especially tasty.

Decided to try out Cuidad for lunch and "WOW!" was completely blown away. Delicious food and terrific ambiance. It gets very crowded and there are not a ton of tables so try to go early.

Attending the wedding of friends, the Ciudad Bar & Grill was among their recommendations and we were glad we took their advice. It's an eclectic place that is easy to miss in the Georgetown neighborhood. Don't! We savored every bite after taking our knowledgeable wait staff's recommendations. It's a bit like tapas except you also order charcoal grilled proteins and veg. We opted for the kale and ricotta salad as a starter, then ordered half pounds of harissa chicken and steak respectively when a quarter pound would have easily fed two, added three dips (burnt honey, chimchurri, and garlic aoili) and an order of flatbread. The meats were cooked beautifully, and exactly to our specification. It was delish. And don't miss the grilled-beet margarita on the rocks. Didn't leave a drop.

Went for dinner and it was a good experience overall. The only negative was the dining room was chilly. Like most of these industrial type establishments it comprised bare everything. It's difficult to really enjoy a meal when your hands are cold. The appetizers were imaginative and very tasty; in particular the saffron cauliflower dish. Similarly, the entrees showed a culinary flair and were well presented and tasty. The hanger steak was perfectly cooked. Sadly the merguez sausage needed more fat. It was dry. All in all, we would return. It's priced fairly and the food is lively.

Ciudad is great! First off, its in a really cool up and coming area. It has a great outdoor patio that is relaxing but still has a good vibe with all that is going on in the area. The menu is incredible...literally everything on the menu is great. There are incredible flavors and then all kinds of sauce pairings. I highly recommend the Pork Belly...the combo of the pineapple and pork is perfect. If you are hungry make sure to order a half pound of whatever meat you choose. The pork shoulder and hanger steak are my favorites...make sure you order some flatbread. The service is really great also. The food was placed in front of the person that ordered it...without auctioning it off. A nice description of the entree and the preparation was included as they dropped each item off. Small detail but I think it shows they know what they are doing here. Drinks were always full. The Elevated Sage is great if you are a Gin drinker. Been here twice and can't wait to return.
Saffron Cauliflower & Sweet Onion...
Friends, family, foodies... On my last visit back home, I had dinner at Ciudad Grill (in Georgetown on 12th). First off, the food was absolutely phenomenal. If you have't eaten there yet, trust me, you must. But gather 'round and listen closely, because innocently nestled in the vegetable section of the menu are the words "saffron cauliflower & sweet onion". Additionally, in smaller print below "dried apricot, hazelnut", a friendly "V" icon (vegan), and the number 11 (dollars).. I was completely oblivious that uttering those words aloud to our lovely server would result in the kitchen creating into existence what I can only describe as culinary transcendence... MY TASTE BUDS WERE NOT PREPARED. The cauliflower (a seemingly unsung hero) was fried and tenderly covered in a sinfully delicious date reduction. With each heavenly bite, curiosity turned into desperation. Eating as slowly as I could, I attempted to identify each individual flavor while taking notes in my phone and vigorously googling. I needed to know... WHAT is this? HOW is this?! And then it was gone. The internal battle against socially acceptable table manners was hard-fought but lost, and the empty plate begging to be licked clean was cleared from the table. Dinner was over. With each step towards the exit, the feeling of existential despair that I may never get my hands on the recipe grew stronger and stronger. It grows still. SO HERE'S THE THING. If ANY of you have any type of hookup at Ciudad, or if you have a talent for food deconstruction... HELP A GIRL OUT! I'm currently sitting on my kitchen floor, staring at a box of dates and other random ingredients.. Resigned to the fact that 1. I'm about to make an absolute mess of my kitchen and 2. I'm sinking deeper and deeper into the dark place. Excuse me while I go ugly cry about living 2,391.75 miles away...
