Great but be careful of daily catch

By jim r |

I wish I could give Clark's a "5" on the score. Everyone is so nice and the food excellent that I want to rate it higher. My wife and daughter LOVED the Lobster roll (awesome) & burger (outstanding). The restaurant is wonderful, the price reasonable, but the only thing holding it back from a "5" is that I did not like the Catch of the Day. I suggest avoiding the Catch in favor of the other items on the menu, which are much better according to this 1-time experience!

Great seafood, service

By AcornAdventure |

I was skeptical of the quality of a seafood restaurant 3 hours inland, but Clark's has a wonderful selection of fresh seafood. I had a selection of oysters as a an appetizer with homemade cocktail sauce and fresh shaved horseradish. For dinner, I had one of the best lobster rolls I've ever had, including some from New England. The cocktails were creative with interesting flavor combinations - cinnamon, grapefruit and lime in the punch I had. The restaurant is small and popular. I'm guessing you'll have to have reservations, especially on the weekends.

Great surprise

By rsantosp |

We were recommended this place by the person who rented us the flat during our stay. We ordered some starters to share and everything was delicious. The service was also very good, despite the fact we did not have a reservation and they were "fully booked", they made us a space so that we could enjoy the experience. We will come back!

Fantastic Seafood

By heybrula |

Amazing, great selection of both East Coast and West Coast Oysters. Service is excellent, attentive. I go there weekly for the oysters, but all the appetizers and seafood are excellent. Really great lobster rolls. Very accommodating manners.

Delicious food, easy going atmosphere, far from the madding crowd

By AUROBINDO S |

Yes, it's on 6th street. No, it's not in tourist trap alley. It's tucked away several blocks past the madness, with oodles of free street parking nearby. The oysters are fresh and delicious (although the horseradish seemed a bit lacking in zing); they have Estrella Damm beer on draft (one of my favorites); the food is artfully prepared and served; I had the lobster roll which was a small bun with huge heapings of succulent lobster flesh with extra thin crunchy fries. Delicious. My partner had the crab cakes which was just as yum. And we both had roasted cauliflower with hazelnuts and raisins - again, superb (just a nit, I'd like my cauliflower a bit more broiled than roasted, but that's just me). Happy hour goes until 6, $5 martinis and beers, half price apps. Go early or go late - the food will be fab.

Oysters are fresh, martinis are cold, and happy hour is a bargain.

I was spoiled by fresh oysters at the Meritage restaurant in St. Paul, MN. Upon arriving back in Texas my husband and I tried gulf oysters at an upscale restaurant not to be named here and they were god awful. We now refer to them as "BP Oysters"...BP for British Petroleum. So it was with trepidation that we arrived at Clark's Oyster Bar, sat at the oyster bar, and ordered a dozen oysters. They were so very fresh and delicious. And Clark's has a great selection of both east and west coast oysters (PEI, Maine, Massachusetts, California, Washington, New Brunswick, etc). Totally worth the price. Happy hour is a bargain. Many drinks are half price (smaller, but half price nonetheless), and a lot of the dishes are reduced also. The hamburger is excellent, the fries are thinner than shoe strings and crispy. And the "shells and cheese w/crab meat" is some of the best mac & cheese I've eaten...comfort food at its best. And hallelujah, the martinis are cold! I love it when I order a martini and it still has a thin layer of ice floating on it. Few restaurants manage to do this, and Clark's did it 3 times in a row.

Must Visit

By heybrula |

Great Service. Excellent seafood. Great choice of oysters, both East and West Coast. Massachusetts, PEI, Maine Oysters are my favorites. Oyster shuckers are amazing, clean the shells very well and leave oyster liquor.

So many fresh oyster varieties from which to choose...great burger too!

By Michael C |

The oyster selection changes frequently based on what fresh varietals flew in. I had no idea that the different varietals had such different tastes, textures and sizes. The Clark's burger is also very good. Go for Happy Hour as the burger is half price and oysters are $.50 off.

Rude staff

By J P |

I read good things about this place, but when entering I instantly felt uncomfortable, I was a single man, not dressed like most white collar current customers and younger than most (city style). I felt like I was being looked at and judged right when I walked in and sat down, as if I wasn’t going to spend money? So I tried to ignore the first impression by making some small talk with the bartender and ordering a home town favorite, clam chowder. Y’all can go check the menu, it says nothing about TOBASCO sauce, and being from New England, we just don’t do that with authentic chowder, there’s nothing spicy about it. I told them I didn’t like it due to the hot sauce being added with out even being documented on the menu… that’s when the bar manager with her facial expressions made it very clear that SHE wasn’t happy lol… she was rude to me, the bartender helping me and just all around negative. Hospitality is about comfort, smiling and making ppl feel wanted, not scaring people away with your attitude and facial expressions. I would mention her name but I’m not that petty. Just do better. If there’s hot sauce in the chowder, mention it, if you mess up, don’t be mad at everyone else.

Food is amazing!

By stacey chais |

When we visit cities we like to try different places & often do not go to the same place more than once. It was a must to visit Clark's again a year later. The oysters & ceviche are amazing! I love that in Austin we try the best northeast oysters! The staff is super friendly too.

Delightful Dinner

By ian |

A delightful smallish restaurant just off 6 th Street. They have a very good selection of oysters prepared mainly natural although they also have baked gulf oysters. The main menu is fish and seafood oriented and the dishes we had were excellent. Portions here are more European as against the typical American meals in Texas. Service was very good indeed. A meal for four including a few drinks and tip was US$310.

Great seafood for relaxing dinner

By Frank Yu |

Went to Austin for the weekend and had lunch at this place, although we don’t have reservations but they have plenty table outside under the shade. We ordered fresh oyster from different locations and the waitress explained their differences in details. The scallop is melting in the mouth and the mediterranean branzino taste great. Ceviche is just the right serving amount. The price is on the high side though but all is great! Good place to try high end seafood.

Wonderful place to hang out

By dieswaytoofast |

So it's pricey. Then again, what d'you expect? It's seafood in Austin. In *Austin*, where the only waterbodies are lakes that you *don't* want to eat stuff from. OTOH, the ambience is *excellent*, whether you're basking in the shaded heat outdoors, or the chill calm indoors, the staff is helpful to a fault, and the cocktails are *excellent*.

Fun night at Clark’s Oyster Bar

By Bobby K |

Had a very nice dinner at Clark’s Oyster Bar. Food was very good and the service was excellent. Only gave it a 4 because the portions were small for the entree prices. Martini came out warm too. $4 an oyster was also way too steep. Overall very good!

Great Neighborhood find

By Stephen F |

Off the charts sea food. respectable wine list. limited seating so make reservation! We will be back!

Love it!

By dredsf |

This is the best oyster bar I’ve been to. The crudo, oysters, burger, wine, and cocktails were extraordinary. Fun vibe at the bar, Jimmy was awesome.

May have lost a step

By Jonathan278 |

One of our favorite restaurants. We went there tonight. Just seems to ha e lost an edge. The very young hostess was remarkably snotty and inappropriate. I actually told her she could consider being friendly. This was met by a blank stare. The manager overheard and offered an empty apology and did nothing. The food was it’s usual solid good, however and we’ll probably go back. We saw a lot of empty tables. I mentioned to my wife that maybe the hostess should be nicer! Let’s see. This place may be on the downward trend. Sad as it’s been a go to for us for 5 years now.

Fresh seafood and Great wine list

By Kenda H |

My family really enjoyed Clark’s oyster bar. We went fo a Saturday happy hour. Food was great we really enjoyed the wine list. Weekend happy hour was well worth it with half off bottles of wine. Oysters were fresh and the lobster role was delicious. My only complaint was the server had very little knowledge of wine. When I asked her if a white wine was dry, for suggestions or about the notes she had no details or suggestions and simple told me that other people liked the wine. For such a great restaurant I would expect her to either have a deeper knowledge or refer me to somebody in the restaurant that could walk me through the wine list. Other than that great!

Lunch in Style

By 736cathy |

A guy we met in Austin told us that this place is excellent for oysters and is one of his favorite restaurants, so we went for lunch and we were not disappointed. It is very fresh food, the salads were amazing, and I had the lobster roll which was excellent and plentiful (a high class kind of lobster roll). Nice cocktails and good service. A little tight seating inside but seats available outside. Very limited parking, so we parked on a side road and walked over. We were lucky to get our seats as we didn't make reservations. People were a bit casually dressed up but we weren't and it wasn't an issue. There is a little art gallery across the street on the corner but we did not have the time to go there after.

An hour for appetizers, meal and drinks? Are you kidding? What are you thinking?

By Nancy S |

It pains me to write this because we have been going to Clark's for years whenever we visit Austin, enjoying their broiled oysters and burgers. That's probably why I was SO surprised at our experience today - and hope it was some mistake in management's judgment, not to be repeated. In a nutshell: We arrived for our 3 PM reservation. As usual, we had our appetizer, two drinks apiece and our meal. At 4:15 PM, we had JUST finished when the manager came and told us there was a "reservation for our table" (I don't think anyone really reserves a physical table assigned to them, BTW) and asked us if we could pay our bill. WHAT??? Not only is this ridiculous - it's not like we were sitting around, toying with a dessert and water for an hour - but if there is now truly some kind of informal understanding that you get an hour for your meal and drinks here - shouldn't that be made clear at the time of the reservation? (Hmmmm.... I also thought it was strange that two other tables had been occupied at the time of our arrival and didn't see either of them being asked to "pay up".) Really soured our whole experience today, which was a shame as the waiter was very pleasant and the food and drinks and service otherwise were fine. I hope management reads this review - and thinks about how it would feel as a customer to come from out of town (as we do), make a reservation here, and then be essentially booted out of their seats in an hour (I"m saying an hour because our appetizers didn't arrive until 20 min after we were seated). Management: please read this in the spirit in which it is intended. You can have good food, ambience, service, etc. - but when you thoughtlessly do things like this, all their hard work goes out the window and all that is remembered is how rude you essentially were (albeit with a smile). We leave town on Monday and it will be six months before we are back to Austin - I hope to give them another shot and that this is a total one-off. What a shame.

Great seafood!

By ckfox |

Enjoyed everything we ordered at this small oyster bar. Sat outside on the parking lot and loved the oysters, shrimp cocktail, snapper and cioppino. Great service too!

Happy hour

By Lisa S |

Great oyster bar with a wide selection of oysters, discounted during happy hour as were the martinis! Great service and a welcoming atmosphere

Clarks Rocks!

By Mike W Jones |

I love this place. It is small, yet lively and definitely Austin cool with an upmarket twist. If you like seafood you will love Clarks! From the raw oysters to the hamburger everything is delicious. This visit was for an early date so we hit happy hour - $5 Martini's cant be beat. Enjoy!

Excellent seafood in Texas, but pricey

By Timothy R |

Small restaurant, with very good food, freshest ingredients, great chef, great wait staff. No complaints and was pleasantly surprised that a restaurant in Tx could make fresh seafood so well. But do bring your wallet.

A fun cholesterol ride!

By Khai L |

I signed me up for a ride of cholesterol and I wouldn't mind telling my doctor that 😛. You can't go wrong with Clark's. The oysters are fresh; I need more training in oyster-hood; I need to learn to pick out the best amongst the good! Mussels and clams in white wine and herbs is a must try! I don't know how they do it but the mussels and clams are soaked with flavors. You will not stop dipping roasted bread in the broth but try not to! You'll be filled up before getting to heaven. The best was saved for last for me: Clark's cioppino! You would be swimming in the sea of seafood and wouldn't mind drowning in all that deliciousness. I'd say the broth is thick and slightly salty if eaten by itself. With the seafood and bread, it was balanced. Ah, don't forget to be healthy and order the brussle sprouts, asparagus and a basket of their fries. We sat at the bar, drank wine and saw things in action! It was my second time here and I feel bad that I did not do the first review. Perhaps next time!

Magnificent in every way...a 5 Star +

By Herb B |

Wonderful restaurant...totally enjoyable. The food was beautifully prepared, the wait staff was attentive (without being pushy), and the ambiance was just perfect...well conceived and thoughtfully carried out! I had the lobster roll which rivals the one I enjoyed in Nantucket! The food was so good, we made reservations for the next day where I enjoyed a fantastically prepared red fish! The portions were generous. Dessert is a must...get the Basque Cake with cherry preserves - amazing!

Perfect neighbourrhood restaurant

By Joanne M |

I loved this tiny seafood restaurant! Went for lunch and we had a perfect hamburger. Not too big, very juicy and just the right size. The oyster choice was immense, the wine cold and delicious and the service was friendly. We sat outside on the porch ( the best!! ). I’d imagine it must get pretty busy on nice days. We lucked out and got the last table. I’ll definitely come back here again. I might make a reservation to be safe the next time

Birthday night..!

By Tha_Bearded_1 |

We usually come here for special occasions because my wife loves the oyster selections. And this place never disappoints when you order something other than oysters as well. Every time we come here we get awesome service and the food is fresh, and very flavorful. We are repeat customers and will return. Thanks to everyone.

Awesome Seafood!!!

By Tanisha Abbas |

I went there few times after my first visits. I had great time on every visit. The oyster selection is top notch!

Found by accident, a good thing.

By Kathleen d |

My husband loves oysters and we were driving around looking for a place for lunch. No wonder they asked if we had reservations. Nice selection of raw and regular food. The bread plate they gave us when we sat down, excellent.

Happy hour

By Sam B |

An amazing burger and two perfect martinis for $20 is a steal . Sit at the bar and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells coming from the kitchen. Very friendly bartenders.

Go For Happy Hour!

By Wanderlust3483 |

Half off martinis and burgers for Happy Hour. Two martinis and a burger for $20, heck yeah! Both the cocktails and the burger were very tasty. You definitely will need reservations if you want to sit anywhere other than the bar, but the bar is full service and the staff seems super friendly. The seafood looked very fresh, but quite expensive. However- I'm sure it is delicious as well.

Good food but a little pricey

By Dan D |

Decided to try this place Saturday evening. Only reservation time available was 8:45 PM. This was okay with us. We sat outside, weather was nice but street traffic noise was loud and distracting. Would sit inside next time. We all tried different dishes and everyone enjoyed their selection. The serving sizes were a little small and did not come with anything sides. For the price I would think that it would come with one side. All in all would come back again because what we had was good.

Great Spot!

By Gerry Z |

Went there for happy hour for a few Oyster Shooters. Saw a few burgers being made as the kitchen is right behind the bar and couldn't resist getting one. Defiantly one of the best burgers ever, cooked perfectly.

The oysters are super fresh!

By soror0198 |

After a morning of bike riding in the ATX, we decided to stop in to Clark's and we are glad that we did! The oysters are superb and so fresh. The restaurant is very cute and the wait staff is very attentive. The Lobster & Farm Eggs en Cocote is absolutely yummy - it's like chicken a'la king, but with lobster, HUGE pieces of LOBSTER....yummers! I definite revisit whenever we go back.

Definitely a Must for Seafood

By TK14 |

Clark’s Oyster Bar is definitely a must place for very fresh and wonderfully prepared seafood. Large selection of raw oysters, great oysters Rockefeller and delicious halibut & branzino! The key lime tart is out of this world! Get a reservation & it won’t be your last.

excellent seafood

By Rob D |

This restaurant is casual, fresh, bright and a favorite. Usually crowded. We have been with two to eight friends and everyone loved it.

weekend mom/daughter trip

By Shirley S |

best seafood in Austin, great N.E. clam chowder and variety of delicious oysters, awesome bartenders/waiters too

Happy Burger! and more....

By Wendy P |

We went to Clark's because of the burger. We were told they have a legit burger and we agree. It was simple and delicious! We also ordered a variety of their oysters, steak tartar, martinis and key lime tart. Everything we had was off the charts. We love the ambience, excellent service and the food! It is now on our list of favorite restaurants in Austin.

Great oysters

By James11111S |

Went back to get some oysters. Clark's has a wonderful choice of oysters ( Best in Texas) and the freshness and the quality is always perfect. The place is always packed, so even with a reservation you will most likely wait. The service is decent, something you feel rushed and your check is dropped on the table before you can order a coffee. the wine list is very interesting and you can find a great wine as a great price.

Austin hidden secret

the food was delicious, the server was very helpful, we were celebrating my birthday!! It was a magical night

How much do you weigh?!

By tamjan |

Well I had a fascinatingly interactive lunch!!!! 🦞 I wish you could have seen me tackling this meal while still trying to keep my dignity. It really should be in the Guinness Book of Records. I ordered the grits which was supposed to come clean with a poached egg and a slice of garlic toast. Or so I thought. “Clark’s cioppino”. 🥯 What I got was a gigantic bowl of oily nonsense with a personality disorder. It couldn’t decide what it wanted to be. A lagoon of soup and grease with two huge pieces of sourdough bread and mussels piled on top. It was horrifically messy. A massive broth with clams and mussels and grits and lobster claws and eggs and veggies stuffed into the broth as you can imagine. 👨🏻‍🍳 A surprise around every corner with that dish, I tell you. - Had my arms working overtime. Very interactive- sucking and scooping. 🤯😑😑😑 Felt like a lazily prepared dish. I suppose you could say I got my money’s worth of seafood, but lost all integrity eating it (about 5 napkins shoved across my bosom and 40 finger bowls and the poor waitress cleaning shells!) The most unbelievable part was serving me that in the Thumbelina seating at this restaurant! 🥵🤬 So yes, let’s talk about the tightness of this space. You better not weigh more than 160 lbs to sit in these minute spaces 🤔max occupancy is 20 I’m guessing. It’s a pity because it’s actually a lovely bar / restaurant full of character. But wow , better hope you aren’t fat or you won’t be comfortable. Everyone’s on top of each other. 🥴🤮 Had a bit of a laugh with parking also - it’s AWFUL. On-street parking which must be the busiest street in Austin or - God help you - parking in that joke of a parking lot! ☠️ Think I witnessed a few accidents while I was swimming in my lunch.👽 Come if you are 120 lbs and clueless. 🤑

Double or Nothing

By barretta |

We ate here twice in the last month. Lobster Roll first time, Shrimp Louie the second, and my wife had Shrimp Toast and Snapper. All four were excellent. Service was fine, but noise level was near intolerable. If you can eat outside it is better, of course. Nice bar.

Awesome cioppino!

By Eagles1096 |

In town for business and decided to try Clark's for dinner. I had the cioppino and it was great! The tomato broth had lots of flavor and there was lots of seafood for the price, crab legs, jumbo prawns, mussels, and lobster! Great place to have dinner before venturing onto 6 th street!

Best oysters and wonderful service!

By GoPlaces819750 |

I am frequently having meals in this place. I love the atmosphere, service and food! On of the servers, Nolan, is especially attentive, nice and professional.

Clark’s Oyster Bar Review

By Ahmad Hatab |

Really limited seating, so book a reservation in advance. Oysters: Full disclosure, I prefer briny/salty oysters Lucky Lime - 8.5/10 Salten Rock - 8.5/10 Oak Grilled Brussels Sprouts: Thick full sprouts with a bit char on the outside. There’s a lemon glaze on there that is ridiculously tasty - 8.9/10 Pan Roasted Black Angus Burger: love the fact this burger doesn’t have a lot of toppings. Buttery bread with gruyere cheese. 9.2/10 Please replace the string fries with normal fries. It’s just awful. Overall: 9/10 Follow me on Instagram @ahmadeats for all the food and attractions

Indulgent seafood experience

By Frank M |

I gave this restaurant a try for a late lunch because it was very close to where I was staying. I wasn't expecting anything and then was positively surprised. The place was full and everyone was enjoying the Oysters. I decided on the Ceviche and Dressed Oysters. Both were unbelievable. The flavors were sensational not only because the seafood was very fresh but because the ingredients were perfectly chosen, not overpowering the food but adding the perfect zing. Beyond the food, the service was excellent and the outside patio allowed for a comfortable and shaded lazy afternoon seating experience. It is a bit pricey so if you are looking for a cheap meal, this is not the place to go.

Awesome!

By 360dpv |

Visited for lunch - top notch service, very friendly and "on it" staff. Sourdough and lemon scone bread board with fresh butter and preserves, tuna salad and lobster roll all great. Very thin fries good add. Seating is tight - be flexible and get to know folks! Excellent experience all the way around - don't miss!

Friendly staff

Visiting Austin my son in law took us around to some fab eateries. He mentioned that he was gonna ck out the Oyster bar on 6th. So i went. Food was great as expected. I sat at the bar by the drink mixers and while pulling something out of my pocket i unknowingly dropped a C-note on the floor. A tap on my shoulder and the lovely hostess asked if it was mine. Upon cking, it was. She wouldnt taken a finders fee from me. The fella beside me gave her a $2 bill. Didnt get her name, sorry i didnt. Wed 11/24 Recommended highly for food and atmosphere.

Great Seafood, Drinks and atmosphere

By machp |

I enjoy meeting my girlfriends here after work or having good business meetings here. The food is delicious and the service impeccable. You can even hear yourself think/talk. I have never had a dish or appetizer that I did not love. Shrimp is one of my favorites and their martinis are fab.

Over hyped

By Natalie B |

Food was just ok. Servings rather small for what you get. We had oyster sampler, clam linguini, crab cake and all felt like we would have rather gone somewhere else.

So Disappointed!!!

By TravelJunkie |

I went to Clark's Oyster Bar with very high expectations and was disappointed BUT ONLY with the food. The restaurant is in a residential neighborhood which makes it very appealing. The exterior and the interior of the restaurant are VERY attractive. Our waiter was EXCELLENT. I was really wanting grilled oysters but tried their "oven roasted gulf oysters" which seemed to be a copy of Oysters Rockefeller but much worse. it tasted like the oysters were floating in mayonnaise and the oysters were tiny. The Red Snapper I ordered was $34.00!!! , and it was about 3" x 3". The snapper was a good (but tiny) cut and was cooked well. The meal came with Stone Ground grits which were extra grainy and the least tasty grits I have ever had. My companion ordered a $32.00 lobster roll that was just OFFENSIVE!. There were tiny chunks of lobster and lots of vegetable filler, and that was also floating in a lot of mayo (YUK). I'm not sure if the "string fries" that came with the lobster roll could even be called fries. Maybe they just need to get rid of their cooks?!

Avoid the Raw Seafood

By John G |

Came here with friends on a Friday night, and ordered the seafood tower. Growing up on Cape Cod I know my seafood and this was bad. The shrimp were not properly devained, the mussels needed to be soaked in salt water to get rid of the sand, the oysters were about two weeks old and gone bad. Service was great, would recommend this place for drinks and the octopus app. The rest was a let down.

Wonderful dinner

By Jon C |

Outstanding food, impeccable service accompanied by a very good but pricey wine selection made for a memorable dinner.

Noisy, but Tasty.

By Brad H |

A friend recommended this restaurant. We reserved a table for a Friday dinner, but were only able to get a 4:45 PM time. We were greeted and seated promptly. The restaurant was mostly full and quite noisy (as are most restaurants nowadays). There were few vegetarian items on the menu, so I selected the french-fried potatoes and the grilled Brussels sprouts, while she selected the crab cake entree. She reported that the crab cake rivaled the best she'd had on the Chesapeake coast. The fries were mini shoestring, but there was a lot of them. They were quite good, but a bit difficult to eat. The sprouts were also quite tasty, with just the right amount of char on the outside and the interiors cooked through until tender. She had a key lime tart and I had a Basque cake dessert. Both were good, but not remarkable. Service was good, but not great. Dinner, with dessert and one glass of house wine came to $86 plus tip. Pretty good value, we concluded.

Wow. I didn't know I liked oysters!!!

By bentley1973 |

These folks allegedly bring in oysters 2 times a day to keep things fresh. Both east and west coast oysters are available and you can trust the "oyster sommelier". They can tell you the bouquet, start and finish of each region's oyster pick. Amazing. I am now addicted!! Get a reservation as the place is small. Outside seating is hot in the summer, but they do have a misting system. Best to get a reservation. Not terribly kid friendly, but a great place for friends to mingle over cool cuisine!!

Consistently excellent

By Steve C |

I have never had a less than excellent dining experience at Clark's, this visit included. They are consistently good to great in all areas. We had a long, relaxed lunch, the pace of which was facilitated by our server who was attentive but not hurried. Their complimentary bread, butter, radish slices and sea salt appetizer is simple but just right to munch on with a cocktail or glass of wine. My appetizer was a flavorful, slightly spicy, red snapper ceviche that was wonderful. My crispy snapper entree was delicious and beautifully presented. My friend's lunch was equally well prepared and enjoyed. The bottle of sparkling Gruner Veltliner we had was an excellent accompaniment. My dessert, a key lime tart, was the only element of the meal that was a little below par. The filling and crust had a day old, refrigerated feel, rather than a fresher, same day consistency. The accompanying coconut sorbet, however, was refreshing and delicious. All in all, Clark's is one of my top five restaurants in Austin. P.S. They have a great happy hour, with drink and food specials which are a great way to try the restaurant without spending too much. P.P.S They have an awesome selection of fresh oysters if that's what you want

I don't like oysters...well until now

By bentley1973 |

I'm not a big oyster fan. Slimy, cold, gritty stuff doesn't make my appetite jump up and down in excitement. However, we were in the area and decided to just walk in. My first recommendation is don't just walk in...get a reservation. My goodness...the oyster menu was unbelievable. The oysters are allegedly flown in a couple of times a day. They come from the east, northeast, northwest and the waitstaff have an in-depth knowledge of the differences. I thought an oyster was an oyster, but no! The waitress would describe the taste of the oyster based on its origin like she was describing the bouquet of a rare wine. And you can actually tell the difference!!! Not a kid friendly place really, but it would be a shame if you didn't experience Clark's!!

Definitely worth a visit

By Alberto G |

I’ve been here a few times and I have yet to be disappointed. The oysters are as fresh as they come, I ordered the redfish in garlic and butter and it was tasty. The only issue was, I left still hungry. The portions are small which is expected out of a seafood restaurant. I just wish it was a bit bigger but besides that my family really enjoyed their experience here.

Birthday Celebration Dinner

By teresamaria77 |

This place has amazing cocktails and food. Lots to choose from. We had a lot of different dishes they were all good. You need to make a reservation if you want a table inside. Otherwise you can sit outside it’s not so busy for those tables. Plenty of parking across the Street. Wear your mask on and take it off once seated. The service was amazing. Will be back here! Check it out.

Reservations are meaningless

By barany579 |

We had reservation to this place at 7PM on a Sunday. At 8:30AM (!) on Sunday morning we were called to make sure that we intended to show up... Yes we told them we did, after we woke up by the phone ringing... Showed up promptly. For 5 minutes, we were standing at the door, no one came to greet us. Then the nose-ringed hostess showed up and asked us to wait. After ten minutes of standing at the door, we told them that we were leaving. The please seems overpriced and extremely loud inside (there is no detectable sound insulation). Unless you're 20 years old and love to yell, you probably won't like this joint. (The food might be great but we will never find out.)

Very good....just not as good as they think they are....

By tencatdaddy |

These folks think a lot of themselves. The food & cocktails are very good but simply not worth the prices charged. Service ranged from friendly but detached to peeved about a perceived slight to pleasant and well-meaning to downright fawning. I heard fr/ several in Austin about how wonderful the place was and after dining there thought this place is "trendy" and that is the best description. I splurged on the oven-roasted Gulf oysters and thought they were very good (just not worth $23). The Crispy Skinned Striped Bass was excellent (maybe worth $39?). Service was all over the place w/ one bartender being very personable, informative, and helpful and another took a comment about traditional drink preparation as an insult and decided to tell everyone at the bar how customers should not be telling professionals how to do their jobs (perhaps if she had known I have been in the industry for years and the comment was an aside about how cocktails were traditionally made and no insult as to the excellent cocktail she made but thin-skinned is thin-skinned and she decided to stand aside and glare at me and spread insults for the rest of my stay.) All in all knowing what I know now I would not bother. The food was very good just not worth the prices charged and there are better values w/in walking distance--not to mention you do not have to deal w/ prickly bartenders.

A bit pricey but nice

By Elena Jeffries |

It was the only place with oysters without a queue that evening. We were sat outside and really enjoyed the atmosphere and friendly service. Oysters are around 3.5 dollars per piece, the best one are from Washington. Try also fries, it's quite unique there.

Well run and well prepared food. As foodies we are not that easily impressed, but be impressed at Clark's. We had their Lobster Roll and their acclaimed burger and fries and both were some of the best we have tried. I have tried numerous burgers, well over 20+ in Austin and the burger at Clark's is definitely in the top 5. My wife's lobster roll was just that lobster, not filler, fresh and carefully prepared. For a real treat sit at the counter facing the kitchen and watch how well the staff interacts in such a small place to deliver incredible food.

Fantastic Oyster and Fish selections

By Globetrker |

Small and cozy, and with outside seating, Clark's has a FANTASTIC selection of seafood entrees. Oysters from Maine,Mass,P.E.I, and 1 from WA state highlighted the Oysters. Bread was FRESH, with one of the best butters I've had in a long time. Entrees we sampled were Branzino and Cioppino. I've eaten a lot of Ciopinno from East coast cities, and this one has to be the BEST, not only in Texas, but in the U.S. I rarely write such superlatives, and with no exaggeration. What I like especially, after finally having one of the best meals ever, is finding a great meal in an understated location. The drink and dessert menu did not disappoint either! Try this place out! If our experience was the norm, you won't be disappointed. Service was very attentive, without being annoying. I'd best characterize this place as "Fine dining, but in a casual atmosphere", so hence the price.

Intimate Seafood Restaurant with Great Service

By RiverRat68 |

Clarke's is small with fast and friendly service and a large bar area. The seafood is varied and includes an extensive oyster offering. There's a full bar which can get backed up at times. Kinda pricey but high quality. Minimal parking.

I felt judged and waitor said, “Bread is for ordering customers”

By Miguel P |

Austin Classism at its finest. Have you seen that scene from pretty woman where Julia Roberts gets shade from the retail staff? Well that's how we were treated last night by the server. He was in the process of putting bread on the table and said, can I help you? I replied, We are still looking at the menu, but please give us 1 more minute and we'll order. So he started walking off with the bread. I said, excuse me but is this complimentary bread for the table. He said, yes, but only for ordering customers. WHOA! Needless to say that we paid for our drinks and left. My companion's family owns a restaurant and he was mortified of the server's actions. The receipt said Wolfman, but he serviced the bar area so avoid that guy. We saw some friends inside the restaurant too and after their meal they mentioned that they had bad service too. If you like oysters with a sprinkle of class discrimination and a dash of shallow pretentiousness then look no further.

Heaven!

By FormerSFdweller |

I was fortunate to be taken here by a friend and I couldn't say thank you enough! I had a variety of oysters that were divine, the crab cake that was really crab with very little stuffing or breading. I had a champagne cocktail that was blended perfectly. I think I could have eaten more, but I wouldn't have been able to move. So very, very good!

Great spot - especially for Happy Hour!

By B Luk |

So, this place is packed. All the time. Make a reservation if you can! Otherwise, if you're lucky like us, we arrived during happy hour and got the last two seats at the bar. What a great experience - the two bartenders that served us was attentive, never let our water glasses go empty, and was on top of our drinks when we were finished (the beauty of sitting by the bar!) We got two cocktails each, one ceviche, 12 dozens of oysters (plus another 1/2 dozen afterwards), and tried their homemade bread and butter. Oysters are .50 cents off during happy hour daily, and select drinks depending on the day of the week. Pricey, yes, for Happy Hour we spent $160 for two people (tips included). We did tip them well, as they did a great job. Will definitely return!

Happy Hour

By dicryan |

My wife and I go and sit at the bar, fun atmosphere, good strong martinis I'm told. I go for the half priced burger, my favorite in town, with great coleslaw. Say yes when they ask if you want bread and butter

One of the best

By farleiii |

One of my favorites. Arguably the beat burger in town. It is very hard to go wrong here. Do not miss out on their key lime pie. Crab mac & cheese is great. Mussels are very devour-able. It is small so plan ahead or evade peak hours. Great drinks as well.

Romantic Dinner for Two

By Veronica L W |

My sweetheart and I visited Clark's on a Thursday Evening. The restaurant was full even at 8:30pm with a good crowd in the bar area. We had reservations to sit outside on the patio. We were seated under the large oak tree with lights strung for a romantic glow. The waiter and other staff were very attentive, asking if we needed anything almost every time they walked past our table. We were very impressed by our waiter who seemed pleased to help us order off the oyster menu. His knowledge was very helpful and spot on. We enjoyed each of his recommendations. After the oysters we enjoyed the Crab Mac and Cheese! So delicious and a must try! I'd recommend Clark's to any foodie friend looking for a special treat and great service.

Delicious but pricey

By trungus1 |

We went to Austin to pick up my daughter from orientation and were planning to try 24 Diner, but the wait was too long. Found Clark's on open table, and thank goodness we did. The quaint restaurant is on 6th street with several small unique shops nearby. The restaurant is on the small side with half of the tables being outside under the yellow and white awnings. My wife tried an assortment of half a dozen oysters and said that all were delicious. The crab cakes and clam chowder were also excellent. But the masterpiece was the lobster roll with large decadent pieces of lobster on a perfectly buttered toasted bun with a heaping side of fried potato strings. The bill for our party of 4 with taxes, tip, and alcohol was almost $200, but worth it! We'll be back.

Superb seafood!

By Jay F |

My wife and I went for dinner on our first visit. We began our meal by sharing an outstanding shrimp toast. Some of the best shrimp I have ever had over great bread with a delightful sauce drizzled on top. My wife had the Cioppino which was excellent. Fish, shrimp, clams, mussels, and crab in a spicy tomato broth with great bread to sop up the brought. I had the crispy Snapper over a polenta with corn that was very good though the skin was not very crisp. Expensive but so is sourcing great seafood. Highly recommended for great seafood.

Chic & Crisp Clark's

By Ro W |

Undoubtable a gem of a little place in Austin...crisp & cool white cloth & seafood and tile not to mention excellent and attentive service and food make for an amazing Austin combo! Highly recommended.

A regular visit when in Austin !

By Rebelrpr |

We've eaten here each time we're in Austin , always for lunch . Relaxed , good service , food is outstanding and service to match !!! Good location to downtown Austin and easy to get from outlining areas of Austin

Awesome experience! Found a new fave.

By Ron R |

Wife and I decided to try a new restaurant from our norm which is Perlas. We made a great choice in Clarks. Place was intimate but hopping. We did not have a reservation but the manager Autumn accommodated us with a great place at the oyster bar. Josh, shucking oysters was a wealth of information about the wide ranging varieties. Nathan who waited on us was always on time and helped make the night fun. The oysters were great but the two apps we had were the absolute best we've ever had. The Crudo plate and the Red Snapper Ceviche were so fresh we almost wanted to have them again instead of moving to an entre. We left telling Autumn that we had found a new favorite Austin restaurant.

Smaller the better

By Victor R |

Sea food gourmet food delicacies. Great wine list, ask for very dry roses and bar options, expect a very simple place with subtle fresh flavors, Every plate is a treat.

If you like seafood, you really need to go here!

By Brian11375 |

I generally don't review restaurants on Trip Advisor (I mostly stick to hotels), but I enjoyed Clark's so much that I wanted to post about it. We discovered Clark's entirely by accident. We'd never heard of it until we saw it on a Sunday afternoon when walking by and thinking we could use a bite to eat to hold us until dinner. Since it was between lunch and dinner they were able to seat us immediately. Once we saw that the restaurant consists of only about 7 tables, we realized how fortunate we were (there are also another 6-8 tables outside, and some seats at the bar). I understand that during prime times it can be a long wait and very difficult to get reservations. I had oysters, the Mrs had salmon cerviche and we both enjoyed cocktails (Scorpion's Respite for her, Mai Tai for me). The food, the service, the drinks, and the atmosphere were all top notch. And the decor and selections of color practically make you think that you're in a beach house at the shore. We could not have been more pleased with our choice. My only complaint would be that Clark's is on the very pricey side (e.g. $34 for a lobster roll). But, even still, I wouldn't hesitate to go back. In fact, I'd be eager to go back.

Pricey but Good

By MangaMan |

Don't show up early and expect availability - the place is always booked. Good happy hour drinks - but overall a pretty spendy experience. Food is always excellent, service okay, atmosphere a little tight and crowded. If $$$ is not a big issue then certainly worth trying once.

Oysters were amazing

By Corey R |

We had 4 different types of oysters for dinner. My wife even challenged the bartender (Joshua) to make her a special cocktail (giving him specific things she wanted in the drink) He basically made her a vodka mojito with a touch of champagne on top. We named it "high maintenance" since it fit the moment. Oysters are always great and service was great. Will return for sure

Excellent Late Lunch

By BillM551 |

My wife and I stopped by Clark's for a late lunch while meandering on Sixth Street one hot Saturday afternoon. This was our second visit to Clark's. We started at the bar because we did not want to wait for a table. We were provided delicious crusty, bread to start. Looking for a refreshing, cold drink, the bartender recommended the trilogy. . Made of campari, solerno, amaro montenegro, lime and champagne, it hit the spot for us. Cold and not sweet. We shared red snapper ceviche which was delicious. As we finished the ceviche, we decided to stay for a bit more. The hostess offered us an inside table. We continued our break for late lunch with New England clam chowder and oven roasted gulf oysters. The chowder was thick and contained plenty of clam. It had more bacon flavor than I preferred. The oven roasted oysters were bathed in bechamel, with spinach, bacon, and sour dough bread crumbs on top. It was very good; however, the preparations overpowered the oysters. I totally enjoy seafood for itself. I cannot complain about the preparation, it is just that I wanted to enjoy the oysters which were lost in the sauce and topping. Clark's offers great drinks, attentive service, and delicious menu items. I consider it expensive, but quality food. We will return.

Seafood Restaurant

By littleturk |

Went for lunch and sat outdoors. The waiter was efficient but not very friendly. Sampled three different oysters, they were not the best I've ever had. The tuna sandwich was plentiful but not very tasty. The best part of lunch was the string fries with fresh rosemary. It's a bit pricey for the quality of the food. Instead try Perla's Seafood Restaurant on South Congress.

Great Austin Dining

By Mike W Jones |

We finally got a reservation (actually at the Oyster bar) and throughly enjoyed ourselves. The ambiance is Austin cool and the food was great. Delicious oysters, salads and shrimp toast. Enjoy!

Exactly the shellfish experience I was seeking

By CodeTron |

Nice bustling bistro vibe indoors with great wood roasted aromas. I sampled 3 of their list of 12 East coast oysters. They are fresh, chilly & delicious and presented beautifully. Had the _Stellar_ clams & mussels, bathed in an entirely generous pool of rich fennel garlic infused broth. The surprise star of the show was some seriously sour, rich, chewy and perfectly charred, grilled sourdough bread. It was the perfect delivery vehicle for that broth and piles of bivalves. Pleasantly attentive service, a nicely balanced gin Gibson, there was just no downside here. Don’t hesitate, just go.

Quality food, very pleasant servers and comfortable setting

By adalbert3 |

You can eat outside, at a bar or at indoor individual tables. We had a drink at the bar area and a very lovely dinner at a separate table next to a large fish tank. My wife and I split an Iceburg Wedge Salad--an ideal start. She had the Redfish and I went with the Linguine with Clams--both were thoroughly enjoyed, and it should be noted that they give one a real serving of clams--you are not shorted by any means. We ordered the Grilled Corn and Grilled Brussel Sprouts---the corn was clearly our favorite. My Affogato dessert was the perfect way to end a wonderful meal. Our server was very personable and the entire staff were friendly and welcoming. We greatly appreciated the fair wine pricing and decent choices. We will definitely be going back.

One of the best seafood establishment's in Austin

By Batgirlcanmove |

Clark's is a small little jewel. Quaint and well spoken waitstaff are very knowledgeable about Oysters, shellfish and seafood in general. The bar area is a little more crowded and has a communal feel to it. If you want privacy..then take the time to book a reservation for a table well in advance. The freshest Oysters and many different types to choose from. Creative dishes...The Seafood Stew and Lobster roll are some of my favorites. Yes it's a little on the pricey side...but I honestly don't know where to find this quality of seafood in the state of Texas. My only complaint...and I assume it's a positive problem for Clark's....They book blocked reservations ...approximately 3 a night. We were having such an indulgent date night dinner one evening (which we rarely get) I guess we stayed a little too long. I've never been at a restaurant where I've spent over $300.00 on food and wine and they've asked us to leave so the next guest could be seated at our table! Ummm, yes your food is good...but you kinda blew the dismount on that night. We've been back since then...kind of like an addiction. But sat outside on the picnic tables under the mist machines. Little less formal...Still spent lots of money...brought the dog who was extraordinarily welcomed. We stayed a long time...and weren't asked to move on!! Maybe it was the dog!

Things at Clark's have changed to the worse

By Austinprogress |

A few years ago, Clark's started as an eclectic seafood restaurant, but with Austin's growth it has slided downhill. We were coming often, hence could experience the decline. Now full of wannabe hipsters (those new-to-down-all-is-still-cool crowd) with zero gourmet understanding. It should be a seafood place, but most dishes leaving the kitchen are "burgers". In the afternoon, they claim all tables in the empty dining room are "reserved", and for two hours nobody shows, when asked "oh, they canceled" which is total BS. Not sure what policy that is. And after consuming grilled fish and coping,,well, we spend the night at the toilet. Clientele down, quality down, prices up. However it is now "cheap eats". This place has gone to the toilet, literally.

So unexpected!

By Dolores1961 |

I wasn't really expecting such a huge selection of oysters. Clark's Oyster Bar presented oysters from the east and west costs each with their very distinct flavors. I loved every bite. The fresh catch of the day (Red fish) was grilled to perfection. I will definitely return to explore the rest of the menu.

Prices seem high at first, but then the food comes...and it is so worth it!

By Maura_Patricia |

I got the mussels and clams--delicious. The sauce they were cooked in was phenomenal and great for dipping the wonderful, crusty bread that came on the side. The wine list was also nice--with excellent choices to pair with the entrees on offer.

4 stopped on reservation for happy hour. Martinis normally $12, on $5 special. Oysters are the deal at $0.50 off each. Ordered 48 (blue points, cooks pointe, hama mama, st..., I forget), all excellent. Staff was crack. Enjoy!

Good seafood...maybe a little pricey

By catchyginger |

I had been meaning to check this place out for quite some time and finally made it late one evening. We came around 10PM and the place was still quite busy. In fact, we were seated at the outside bar. There were no indoor seats available. I guess you need reservations for this place. It is on the small side. I had to try the oysters. I like oysters but am not an expert by any means. I tried a few which were tasty. After trying several, you can tell the difference between different oysters. Briny! They also brought sourdough to the table. The bread was quite good. The butter was also a nice touch. I also had the cioppino (fishermen's stew). The broth was very flavorful. The stew contained a lot of great seafood including shrimp, fish, clams, mussels, crab and more. It came with great slice of garlic bread. The wine list was moderate. It was a little on the pricey side I thought. They also have decent beer selection. I like this place. Good food but portions are a little on the small side. A little on the pricey side. But I will return. Likely for happy hour.

Outstanding

By Katy R |

Popped in on the spur of the moment as we had heard good reviews and we were not disappointed! It was fully booked but we were able to get a seat at the bar. I had the most delicious, creamy, herby clam linguine (piping hot too). My husband had the snapper dish which was equally delicious. We plan to return for sure!! I’ve heard parking can be tricky but we were lucky and managed to find a spot down the side street.

Plethora of Oysters

By jbm22017 |

The only negatives about Clark's is the parking and the number of patrons it can accommodate. If you don't like up close and personal with your neighbors, don't go. Reservations are highly recommended if you want to eat inside. It opens at 5:30PM and our reservations were for 5:45PM. We parked on the side street. I'm not a especially fond of eating bread before my meal, but Clark's is freshly baked accompanied by rich creamy butter that will have your taste buds begging for more. These folks know seafood, but apparently, they know burgers too because we were there during happy hour and their burgers were on a number of tables and we learned at 1/2 price. We started with 4 different kinds of oysters - from Princess Edward Island to Massachusetts. I'm told cold water oysters are superior. Can't argue that after having them. I give them a 10 on the scale of 1-10. Prince Edwards are smaller than Massachusetts. I'd recommend ordering a few and then ordering a cup (small bowl) of clam chowder. It's the best I've ever had. We followed up with Oven Roasted Gulf Oysters, which only continued to set the high bar. They are worth every penny. We each had the crispy snapper with stone grits. Wow. Superb. I'm not sure the needed the diced tomatoes but it didn't detract from the dish. We weren't going to eat dessert, but decided to share the Passion Fruit Ice Box Pie. What a great end to a fabulous meal. Really cleansed the pallet.

We tried non-oyster meals and they were good.

By boatwaco |

We went to Clark’s for their seafood offerings, not the oysters. We enjoyed our entree dishes- I liked the lobster roll very much and really had fun eating the Ilya skinny French fries which covered my meal entirely. My wife had the crab cake and said it was very good as well. Downside - funky seasoning on the endive celery and pear salad. Salad would have been better without the excess seasoning. Staff was great, waitress was great and we were seated pretty much at our reservation time. Our moc-tale tasted as good as the real mojito. They looked great too. Ambiance is typical “Austin old-house-converted-into-a-cool restaurant” place. Parking is a challenge; plan ahead to walk a few blocks back to the restaurant. We did see many people enjoying the various oysters. I do suggest you go and try it yourself.

Just great...

By Mr_JMBee |

I read reviews, and agree with all of them. This place is just plain cool! Yes it is great food, it is also not cheap, happy hour rocks, seating is close, no nonsense, it's in a residential neighborhood, limited parking...but yeah it was great. We sat at the oyster bar and just went with it. If you go looking for red lobster or the Ritz you aren't getting either one. BUT if you go to enjoy yourself and take in the local atmosphere then this is for you! We had oysters, shrimp toast, oyster shooters, cocktails ($5 happy hour), linguine and clams and everything was great. Haters will say it is tight and limited seating, and it is but plan ahead and if you dont like rubbing elbows with the waiter prepping the trays of oysters then dont go...more room for us!!!

Clark's - almost perfect

By Trish S. |

We visited Clark's for dinner on the last Saturday night before Austin's restaurants closed due to the pandemic. The restaurant was full but our table on the verandah was lovely and we didn't feel crowded. The four of us shared a dozen absolutely superb oysters as recommended by Ashley, our waiter (she was terrific) and then as two couples, we ordered meals to share between us. Our friends shared the wedge salad ($14) and then the Cioppino ($39) which was an enormous bowl of seafood with a large slice of bread on the side. My husband ordered the clam linguine, another generous serve ($32) and I got the Oak Grilled Spanish Octopus ($18). At the very last minute I ordered the Bib & Watercress Salad ($12) and I'm glad I did. I was a little disappointed in the size of the octopus dish; there was a lot of aioli on the plate which made it very rich, and the pieces of octopus were delicious and well cooked, but there just wasn't much of it so it wasn't very filling. And I had to eat very slowly so that I wasn't just sitting there with an empty plate while everyone else at the table was still going. I shared the salad with my husband but should definitely have kept it all for myself! In hindsight, I guess the price ($18) should have been a clue that it was a smaller dish? But when the menu lists all the dishes as "specialties" it's a little ambiguous. We shared desserts as well - the key lime pie was really good. Anyway, it was all very delicious, the restaurant is a lovely space (especially the verandah) and the service was excellent, but Ashley missed the opportunity to read my mind and up-sell a bigger entree ;-)

Love the Saturday afternoon 3-6 Happy Hour

By austinjjc |

We love Clark's. The food is awesome. Literally everything on the menu. We have been many times and have had most of what they offer. You can't go wrong. It is always very busy so a reservation is highly recommended. Today, we want to review the Saturday afternoon happy hour. From 3-6, they offer half price bottles and wine and 50 cents off the oysters. We happened to go for this one sunny Saturday afternoon in January. We love the atmosphere sitting out on the small porch. The heaters on low were just perfect and the blankets are a nice touch. You can't beat half price bottles of wine although we were very sad that they took the French rose off the menu. We enjoyed a bottle of Pouilly Fume and a dozen oysters. We went for the chef's choice on the oysters and weren't disappointed. We loved them all but adored the selection from Price Edward Island. We really like the way they serve the oysters. The fresh horseradish is just awesome and we really like the light vinegar sauce. They also serve cocktail sauce which we do not think go with oysters. Clark's makes their own bread and it is top notch. My husband is from Europe (Switzerland) and is very picky about his bread. He loves the bread at Clark's. They will sell it for $6 loaf if they have enough. This might sound expensive but it is so good that it is definitely worth it. We highly recommend the Saturday afternoon happy hour or any other time to visit Clark's. One of the best seafood spots in the city (if not the best). One thing that made us rate 5 stars this time was a little special extra from one of the servers. They obviously love their jobs and have great attitudes. Note that the parking lot fits about 5 cars so parking isn't always easy. However, it usually isn't too hard to find nearby street parking.

A casual bar with a touch of Bistrot

By Patricio B |

There is an ample selection of seafood reminiscent to restaurants in Boston. The raw bar is VERY good as are their signature dishes. We ordered the clams mussels in white wine sauce paired with a Chablis. I ordered the founder and my wife the lobster roll. The caviar selection is good but not high end Caviar having a selection of Beluga and Ocetra along with other fish roe. The place is easy going yet with a slight touch The foods very fresh. A good choice of restaurant. .

Fab vibe and food super pretentious waiter

By Adrienne C |

We happened upon Clark’s while visiting the Outdoor Voices store. We were visiting from North Carolina for spring break staying in Austin before heading to Big Bend National Park. Anyhow it was a beautiful day and we went there around 4pm. We had drinks, oysters and some food. We loved the atmosphere and the food was fantastic. I would have given 5 stars but honestly I have very little tolerance for people who are rude and pretentious - and in a service industry no less. Do not know his name bc he did not tell us and he acted as if it was a horrible chore to wait on us. This is just too bad. I saw some other reviews after we left that had the same kind of experience. My advice treat everyone equally 😊However, we did not let that ruin our time as we truly enjoyed every other aspect.

Friend's Lunch

By bernhtp |

Clark's never disappoints. It is always delicious and I will go back over and over. It is small. Make reservations to ever have a table indoors. If not, sit at the bar. Their Bloody Mary is excellent.

Perfect birthday dinner

By John_and_Emily |

We felt as covid safe as we could. All tables were spaced or not used if too close to another. We saw our outdoor table disinfected as we waited. All employees were wearing masks. Our server was very menu knowledgeable and really aided our constructing a fabulous meal. She brought the oyster plate and a cue slip so we didn't have to rely on memory to keep the oysters straight, and they were excellent. We recommend the items pictured as well as the red snapper ceviche, Salado Perro cocktail and key lime tarts.

Worth a visit

By Scottygirl82 |

On a recent trip to Austin we ate at Clark's where we enjoyed some oysters, crab cakes and halibut. The food was all very good and we'll presented. The crab cakes were a great find with little bread in the mix. The only downside was our table which was curbside, despite multiple other tables being open and not reserved, which we felt reduced service levels somewhat.

Great oysters and seafood

By maureen fitzpatrick |

We love Clark's! It's always busy and seating is sometimes difficult. Everything is fresh and the bread is awesome. We love the oysters, chowder and fresh fish. The wedge salad is great. We return each trip to Austin. Try it and you will enjoy a good meal. the prices are not in the low range however.

Disappointing

By Guy H |

We wanted to love this place so much and in almost every way we did. The ambience and service was really good and the food was so nearly great, but both my clam linguine and my wife's haddock was overly salted, to the extent that I couldn't finish my food. We mentioned to our server, who said he would pass onto the chef - we heard no more. So ultimately we came away very disappointed

Wonderful seafood at this cozy restaurant

By Otto W |

We decided to have dinner here on the strength of TripAdvisor reviews. First of all, it's inside dining areas are small. There is a dining room that accommodates 12 and a bar area with a few tall tables and tall stools. So, we were glad we made reservations. Service is most friendly and the menu is quite varied. We had burrata and pear salad, cioppino and a lobster roll with string potatoes. All were delicious and our cocktails were perfectly prepared. We would definitely go back. Note that in spite of cold weather some brave diners sat at the outside tables.

Lobster roll

By 611shane |

We went on a lobster roll crawl in the Austin area and felt that Clark’s lobster roll was #1. Expensive at $34, but pretty amazing. Came with either super small hard to hold fries or Cole slaw.

Outstanding seafood and service

By ncalad |

One of the best meals we had in a while. Choppino and Blackened Fish with polenta are really good. Nice wines too.

Lobster Roll and Oysters

By Pamela R |

My husband and I visited Clark's happy hour last week. We had an assortment of oysters, a lobster roll and burger. The food was very good and service was attentive. The inside of the restaurant is incredibly small with maybe only 6 tables very very close together. That was the biggest drawback for us, We asked to be seated in the corner to get a little privacy, but the hostess told us she had a reservation for that spot and sat us at the table next to it. No one sat there the whole time we were there. The seating will probably keep me from going back, it was that tight.

awesome

By mochahershey |

Oh my word! The oysters are excellent. French Kiss were my favorite, we also had Oyster shooter. You can not get better oysters. Hamburgers are excellent, French fries, everything they have is wonderful.

Very good food but outrageously expensive

By BramStoker |

Very nice place that specializes in seafood. The hostess is extremely nice and professional (and beautiful). The waiters are good and nice. The food was delicious. I would stick to the fish and seafood (not sure why people are ordering burgers there). But the prices are out of control. $34 for a small lobster roll? Should be $22. $4 for an oyster? Should be $2.5. $16 for an entry level glass of wine? Should be $9. $25 for a crab cake and a side salad? Should be $16. Still, in a town where salty, fatty meat is king, this is a welcome breath of fresh air.

Try Clark's!

By CowgirlsloveTX |

Small space with good atmosphere. My only complaint was very cold room temp. Try the snapper ceviche. Very very good. Maybe best I've ever had. The golden beets were exceptional. All the food was good. Deserts excellent! Loved the Russian vanilla ice cream with espresso. I will try this spot again.

Perfect Anniversary Lunch

By Tristan |

Went to Clark’s Oyster Bar for lunch and had a wonderful anniversary celebration. The service was really attentive and friendly, with little details like a happy anniversary postcard on the table when we arrived. Sat outside, set back from the quiet road, under a tree and their lovely yellow awnings, it was great to be outside. Cocktails were beautifully crafted, with strong flavours and a good amount of alcohol, and food arrived timely to the table. We had Oysters to start, which looked beautifully presented on a large metal dish of crushed ice with shaved horseradish and condiments, as well as the most delicious starter in their Tuna Carpaccio. This is an amazingly crafted dish, how they get their tuna to such a thin yet beautifully firm and flavoursome presentation shows real craft, complimented by all the olives, capers & sunflower sprouts, it’s a star dish. We had the lobster roll, a staple dish which could easily be shortcut, but every detail has gone in to elevate this dish too. The brioche roll was caramelised perfectly, huge perfect lettuce leaves cradled a very generous amount of delicate lobster, and a huge bowl of rosemary shoestring fries and a fresh ‘slaw to side, it just looked amazing and tasted so too. Finished off with a delicious key lime pie, and a torched Swiss meringue on the side, this was one of the best of many meals we had on our holiday to the USA. Highly recommend and would certainly go back if we visit Austin again and try their evening sitting, which I imagine with the fairy lights in the tree’s, would be just as magical. Thank You.

Ceviche a must

If you are looking for great seafood in Austin, this is your place. Great location with indoor and outdoor seating and even seating where you can watch them shuck the oysters! My party had the crab cake, mussels, and clam chowder and heard nothing but praise. Service was on point.

Loved it!!! We had oysters, ceviche, salmon, scallops and the key lime pie. Plus it was half off wine bottles! Great outdoor atmosphere, great food, will go again.

The Old Salt!!

By DesertTravelGuy |

Tried Clarks after the show at Esther's Follies because we love seafood and they're open late. Nice decor, intimate and modern. They have Anchor Steam beer on tap, a great beer with seafood. We started with the NE clam chowder. A bit spicy, but really good and tasty. I had the linguine and clams. It was okay. Loaded with very small clams covered in a while sauce. The sauce was flavorful but very salty. I would normally had soaked up the remaining sauce with bread, but it was way too salty. All said, I'd give Clarks a second chance.

Delic

Our 1st time in Austin and had a few spots on our list. While unable to get a dinner reservation here we tried for lunch.... and seemed easier if you don’t want a table. We sat at the bar, and got to watch them make all the yummy food. We had a few types of oysters which were great and the chowder, which was one of the best I have had. Would have stayed here all day eating through the entire menu.... definitely a spot to put on list. Parking is of a challenge maybe .... but worth it.

Clark's; why would you choose anywhere else?

By paul D |

Clark's was awesome; 5 stars in every category!! it was a cold and rainy Friday evening and i randomly chose this venue as it seemed popular in a good location with good reviews. Oysters seemed like a good choice. As tourists we were unprepared and without reservations and the restaurant was booked, They said spaces come available at the cocktail bar. we stood with an ordered cocktail but were seated before we had our second sip not at the cocktail bar but at the oyster bar directly in front of the Master Shucker. not only did we have great food and service but a good education as well. the oysters were superb, the extra tastings appreciated and the pan sauteed halibut and fresh greens were top of the line. Clark's is a very pretty and intimate restaurant , and i would recommend it to anyone even if they do not prefer oysters.

Coastal vibes

By greatgobsofgouda |

Clark's was great! With the weather and the atmosphere, it felt like being on the coast and having some amazing seafood. Make sure you start yourself with the ceviche and grab an oyster from each spot you won't be disappointed. You can't go wrong with any of the food truly a great spot to relax and enjoy a light beer and some amazing seafood.

Iconic, but a bit overrated.

By RobbIt1818 |

Ok so everyone loves this place. We would’ve more in ‘like’. 🙃 great happy hour, knowledgeable staff and a good downtown location. We had the lobster roll, chiopoino, wedge salad and clam chowder. Very good, but not 5 stars.

Best oysters in the USA, in Texas?

By Gem1920 |

I have travelled to both coasts, but I have never been at a restaurant with 15 different oysters on their list. Very well served and presented by an excellent and knowledgeable staff. And not only that, the fish selection was top-notch, including the red fish which I ordered. Wine list also good, including ample by-the-glass options. An amazing place and very highly recommended.

Excellent Seafood in Downtown Austin

By David R |

Had dinner last night at Clark’s and was so good I wanted to make sure I posted a review. A fairly small place with outdoor tables, a handful of indoor tables for 2 or 4, and community and bar seating in the main food prep area, I would recommend reservations, but I had only a 15-20 min wait as a walk-in. Certainly not a quiet place the background noise was not overbearing. The food? Phenomenal. A wide selection of clams from across the US, ceviche, Crab Louie, hot and cold dishes. You come here for very good food, not as a budget destination. I went for the Gravlax with fresh rye toast points for my appetizer (like $18), and the lobster roll on a freshly baked bun ($36). I finished up with a chocolate pot de creme with a small frozen ice cream. Very filling meal, with tip and drinks I got out of there for $88. And well worth every bite.

Horrible Never made it to a table - Don't bother booking in advance !

By Julia001 |

I booked my husband's bday dinner at least 2 weeks in advance by phone. I phoned mid day - I spoke to a woman and explained that this is a special night please provide your BEST table and whatever he orders for dessert remember it's a birthday. We took Uber (which we never do) and the restaurant had no record of our reservation. The manager Ashley offered a table outside (are you kidding me?), what a disaster we just left. Never going back, if you can't get a reservation right its a bad sign !

An oasis of civility

By MisterMissusO |

This is my wife's new favorite place for lunch or dinner. Food is wonderful, service is above par. Prices are steep and it's often crowded (parking can be a challenge) but did I mention the wonderful food? Happy hour is a smart time to go.

Great Seafood

By BillM551 |

My wife and I discovered Clark's Oyster Bar while walking on west sixth street. At mid-afternoon we walked onto the patio but were told that all tables were reserved and were directed inside ( no tables were occupied after more than one hour ). We were seated inside the very noisy restaurant. The waitress seemed annoyed, did not smile, and was not attentive. The ceviche and smoked lox were very good, but wait staff did not make this a great experience. Also, pricey. Might return, but won't go out of our way.

My favorite restaurant in Austin

By Damiana29! |

My favorite restaurant in Austin. It’s a little bit expensive but food justifies it’s value. Great oyster selection. Friendly and professional staff! I loved this place. I will come back!

Pricey, Really, Really Pricey

By JimJTx |

Food here is fresh, well prepared, and delivered to the table with flawless service. Food is not and never has been an issue. The issue is pricing. For a lunch of six oysters, a caprese salad and two glasses of wine the tab was $70 with tip. Last time we had lunch there the meal was a bit more substantial but the price was over $120. I like their food, ambiance is lovely but because of pricing I'm pretty much done with Clark's.

Excellent seafood in Austin

By Montauk123 |

My wife and I had dinner here last Sunday. Smallish restaurant with seating inside and out. Service excellent. Delicious seafood!!

Fresh fish, great service

By pac0450 |

Really a “go to” place in Austin for oysters and more. Wonderful wine list. Great cocktails (recommend the Vesper). Fantastic service. Definitely a place to go when in town.

Come for the oysters, stay for the ambience!

By taxidiataltys |

I can’t say enough about this place! Everything from appetizers to drinks to entrees to desserts were spectacular! The oysters were so fresh and sweet, I could have had dozens more. The clean design, enthusiastic staff and great vibes makes you want to stay for more and more drinks.

How much????

By DTaxMan |

This restaurant is not good for a romantic evening as you are seated literally 6 inches away from someone else on both sides. You can hear better the conversation on your right or left than your wife's seating across you. Extremely expensive for what you get. Sometimes you pay high prices for the ambiance and setting but here as loud as the place is, it is way too expensive.

Little cafe, great seefood-- need to make a reservation!

By Elena T |

We knew about that place, and decided to check their availability a day before our dinner there. I am glad we did: it was almost booked already, so we had to choose from only two time slots available. It is a good sign for a small place, isn't it? We enjoyed our dinner there! Excellent seafood menu, excellent service. A little pricey, but absolutely worth it!

Oysters

Lovely small hideaway. Sister restaurant. Large choice of oysters mainly east coast. Bread was wonderful. Chef tasted food before it was plated. Good man !!

Great dinner at Clark's

By David H |

Went here for dinner visiting from the UK , service and food are excellent and a very nice buzz to the bar and restaurant, waiter was super healthy with the wine list.

Stellar seafood great atmosphere!

By machp |

I have been going to Clarks for a number of years. The seafood is amazing and the team is wonderful too. The only issue can be a little bit of loud noise just due to the close tables. Whenever that occurs we just sitting outside! They have wonderful wine pairings and cocktails as well. Prepare a bit in advance for parking. It is well worth any weight that you might have. Make some Reservations and have a great time!

Eat inside or outside

Great seafood options, including oysters, but a variety of options on the menu! Excellent service, fantastic food and great dessert!

Really Like it Here But.......

By Michael K |

So here is the thing. This is one of my favorite places in Austin. I love raw bar and this is one of the better ones (not just in Austin). I've been here probably about a dozen times and would normally give this 5 stars, but we had a few issues our last visit. 1. There were a lot of flies.....They need to get this taken care of ASAP and I noticed the manager and chef spent a lot of time looking at a large swarm of them so I assume they will 2. The mussels and clams dish is just ok. This should be a great dish (one I make at home a lot) -- It lacked flavor and for about $30 it should be much better 3. $4 per oysters is a bit steep -- A dozen is $48. That seems too much to me. However they were delicious Now the good... I love their steak tare tare. It's the best I've had in Austin. The service is awesome and the space and open kitchen are great. I look forward to going back and hopefully giving 5 stars.

Delicious!!!!!

By cbrkc |

First the ambiance is fabulous. Must make a reservation the place is small. The bread is off the charts delicious. My husband who is Italian said his chioppino was some of the best. I had the clams linguine it was outstanding. This is a must if you are in Austin!!!!

Pricey but good.

By MangaMan |

The oysters are great.Service very prompt and accommodating. Happy hour is actually a great time to grab a few oysters (still $$$0 and cocktails (well priced). Make reservations - even when the town is dead this place is booked early and late.

Great for happy hour

By jss697 |

Stopped by for happy hour. Had two great martini's at great prices. It was fun to sit at the outside bar and people watch.

Good not great

By CandV |

If I lived near would go occasionally, but doubt I would go out of my way. Oysters 3.50 plus each, lobster over $30. Just didn't impress me much - felt a bit like Red Lobster-good but not great

Stellar Seafood

By Cal E |

Clark's offers a very high level of quality in everything they serve. The cocktails are handcrafted and delicious, wine list exceptional, and everything from the bread service to desserts are spectacular. The lobster roll rivals anything in New England. The ceviche plate, oysters, potato frites, and fresh grilled fish offerings are perfectly balanced, served with well thought out condiments. Simply put, you can't do better than Clark's, if you can get in.

Lunch delight

By Jeanne M |

While in Austin for family issue, day 6, I came upon this great spot, a raw bar and more with strong brunch/lunch game- waitstaff and bartenders were most friendly and accommodating ✅ a must

First Visit a Winner

By rob s |

Took my daughter who just arrived a half hour before from CA for first visit. It was inspiring. We split a dozen oysters, two kinds, both from MA-Cotuit and Onset. Nichole, our server gave very good advice. For entrees, I had Red Snapper and daughter had Branzino. All very fresh and prepared extremely well.

Small place with good seafood but uncomfortable tables

By Toni S |

In spite of the excellent reviews we were a bit disappointed. It is a small place in a nice looking house with a few tables inside and a few outside. We had a drink outside but it was noisy with the street traffic and dinner inside. The inside is poorly designed. The main tables are on a rectangular small area, packed, with the traffic of the servers and the view of people using the toilets. The food was good but not exceptional and expensive. We had a selection of pacific oysters, OK, and a good grilled fish and some sides. The wine list was very good and the service appropriate.

Oysters and More

By d1621 |

Our first trip to Clark's was a fun time. The space might not be for everyone as shoe horns may be required for some seating. But the "cozy" environment not often associated with shellfish works fine for most everyone because the food and service are outstanding. As our friends caught us up on their comings and goings our well schooled server took the time to patiently catch us up on which oysters and other offerings we might best enjoy. As a result we enjoyed a variety of oysters, redfish, crab and more. It was a delightful evening in the sardine can space that actually works great for service and fellowship!

Just go!

By Amy G |

Wow! This place was great! Just walked up after a day being out and about and it was grand. Nice and attentive staff - even if the manager gave into That Guy who demanded that he be seated outside at a table for 8, even though there were only 2 of them. (Scumbags always feel entitled). Terrific food and an interesting wine list. Wish I could have ordered more!

Dinner on The Cape- sort of.

By Arturo G |

I love this place, even though I've never been to Cape Cod or Nantucket I imagine Clark's is what it would feel like to eat at a seaside restaurant up in that part of the country. I'm sure that's the idea and even though it's quite small I think that adds to the charm. The oysters are always a homerun and I recently stopped in for Happy Hour and had a burger that was magnificent. Can't wait to go back.

Sitting outside was a plus on the nice evening we were there!

By Judy C |

Clark's is upscale all the way. They have a nice wine list, and the seafood is absolutely to die for!

Happy hour!

By nonsibisedaliis |

We sat at the bar and really enjoyed our half-price Happy Hour martinis and burgers! We had been recommended this Oyster Bar for its burgers, but our original scepticism about a seafood joint serving burgers was quickly dismissed, these were exceptional (it's an open kitchen so got some handy burger-cooking hacks too from our vantage point at the bar). Great, friendly service and the atmosphere was lively but not intrusive.

great afternoon

By acorvette4me |

In addition to great oysters this a great place to spend the afternoon sipping Vesper Martinis and nibbling on the grilled octopus.

Great Food

By Hutch9999 |

We loved our whole experience there. Of course the oysters were good but they were really fresh!! The scallops were cooked to perfection and the cauliflower was superb.... everything we ordered was really good, We will be coming back for sure!!!!

Average food & slow service

By ChiefWolf |

We had lunch at Clark’s highly recommended by a friend but with the caution that it’s always busy & only 4 parking spots. It was both very busy & couldn’t park. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Oysters were average in size despite the fact we ordered the largest they had. Also ordered lobster roll & crab cakes. The roll had more bread than lobster & a ton of skinny fries. Crab cakes were the best item we ordered. Prices were also pretty steep. But the worse part was the service. Our server was busy, slow & didn’t seem to be very interested in being efficient, at least not with our table. I probably would try other seafood/oyster places before going back.

Wide variety of oysters

By PPM81 |

The standout about this place is the variety of raw oysters that they offer. Its an intimate setting. Overall, it may be a bit overpriced

Not cheap but worth it

By Carmen G |

It is a nice neat place with fresh oisters and great menú selection. Loved the lobster and the salmón

Unusually Good Oysters

By weyl-59 |

Go for the oysters, small and expensive but wonderful! Mainly from the east coast. Weekend happy hour deal for wine is fantastic -- half off per bottle before 6pm. Their wine list has some excellent wines. Good service -- definitely recommend sitting at the oyster bar.

Quaint location with an East Coast vibe and wonderful seafood.

By Love2Travel1368 |

Delicious seafood in a quaint setting. Happy we made a reservation. Had 12 Oysters, shared the Lobster Roll and Clam Chowder. The pickles for the Lobster Roll were so delicious. It also came with shoestring French fries or Cole slaw. We did both. The coleslaw was fantastic in my opinion if you like a vinegar base. A wonderful experience. Will definitely go back.

If you like seafood you would enjoy this place. The flavors are quiet intense but worth trying at least once if your in town.

Fresh Seafood in a Beautifully Designed Space

By Matt H |

If you are in the mood for fresh seafood, and you appreciate eating your meal with great ambiance in a beautifully designed space, Clark’s Oyster Bar is a must stop in the downtown Austin area. Clark’s serves up delicacies in the upscale casual market segment so be prepared for wine and cocktail prices ranging from $12-20; Cold Bar from $18-23 and entrees $27-$39. I say this not because they are overpriced, just be aware of this before you go. We went to Clark’s because of the oysters, and we were not disappointed. Where many restaurants in Austin feature gulf oysters, Clark’s has 10 choices from the east and west coasts at $4 each. We tried three varieties—The Spinney Creek from Maine, the Gooseberry PEI and the Barron Points from Washington. Each oyster had just that little different taste from sweet to briny. As an added bonus Clark’s features, a Dressed Oyster choice with a Brunoised cucumber, mint, crispy shallots and a light honey vinaigrette ($5 each). For our second course we again tapped the Cold Bar for a visually stunning Red Snapper Ceviche ($19). Served in a clear bowl, the Golden Roe liquid had thinly sliced cucumber, serrano peppers and cilantro to accompany the snapper. We added a serving of New England Clam Chowder ($12), which was apparently so good I was told to get my own bowl. I instead asked for two more of the Dressed Oysters. We finished with a plate of the Wood Grilled Shrimp Toast ($18) which was much heavier, not in a negative way, that I would have thought. While I was not full after the first few waves of food, by the end of finishing off the Shrimp Toast I felt fully complete. The toast itself was about an inch thick, true Texas toast and was embedded with pea tendrils, shaved celery and a generous amount of shrimp, all perfectly intermixed with a Harissa Aioli. We sat inside the restaurant looking out at 6th Street, but there is an incredible deck with outside tables. The wait staff dutifully raised and lowered umbrellas outside and the shades inside to make sure we were not blinded by the setting sun. After it was down, they raised the shades again and lit the outside heaters for a perfect fall evening. The sound level of the restaurant was very low, and you could easily hear your date talk next to you without any effort. Service was impeccable, and we wanted for nothing, other than more tasty food and beverages. The restaurant uses Open Table and reservations were easy. First class experience all the way. And for the back-of-house, keep banging out an awesome menu, you guys and gals rock!

Happy Hour Anyone?

By Gammie8 |

This is a happening place, esp on TGIF. Martinis, $5! Oysters are the big deal here, and they're superb. Freshly grated horseradish is a nice touch. Homemade bread is excellent. All fish is nicely cooked, particularly the crispy snapper. The food is good, but ambience is king. Service is very correct, even with the raucous atmosphere. A fun place!

Great lunch. Everything was perfect.

By Jay F |

Stopped informing lunch for my first meal at Clark's. Had the shrimp toast and a glass of Pouilly Fume. Everything was spot on perfect. Great food quality and perfectly prepared. Great service. A very positive experience. Highly recommended with the warning that prices are relatively high which goes with the quality. Wine prices seem reasonable at about 2.5 times retail.

Excellent Seafood and Fabulous Service

By SabrinaC411 |

We stopped by Clark's for brunch on a Saturday and had a wonderful meal. The cioppino came with very large shrimp, a crab leg, fish, clams, and mussels. The broth was very tasty and went well with the large piece of garlic bread served on top. We also tried the lobster and eggs en cocette. Would definitely order both dishes again.

Great oysters

By e.silvia |

I found out about that spot from a food blog and was not disappointed. Even if it's a bit more chilly, you can sit outside because of the heaters. The service is courteous and friendly, the food is great and I would recommend eating some of their special oysters. It might be a bit pricy but it's worth it!
