Clock Bar in the St. Francis Hotel is a great place to relax after a strenuous day of sightseeing or shopping. Great selection of upscale "bar food", great cocktails and perhaps the BEST Bloody Marys I have tasted ! Be advised, though, that prices are high !

very pricey-- but defintely worth checking out. lots of great people watching. the bar is small, so it is crowded and you may have challenge getting a seat.

The bar is in the lobby of the St. Francis on Union Square. It's a good place to meet up with friends before heading out at night or have a drink after shopping. We usually get apps and a simple drinks here. (beer or whiskey) If you are in a hurry pay as soon as you order, or you might not catch your servers attention again.

Great drinks and atmosphere in Westin St Francis Hotel. Just off to the right of the main entrance on Powell Street.

This is a dark intimate bar, and the atmosphere is pretty good. the service is friendly and well above average. However I found it expensive even for San Francisco, and they had a very limited choice of beer when I was there.

We were in the City to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We had chosen the St, Francis because my wife's parents had met there and courted in the late 1930s and we had never stayed at the hotel in all our visits to the City by the Bay. Needless to say it was busy on a Saturday evening, but we were able to find lovely seating for our part of seven and had a good time. Given the size of the place and the fact that it was packed the service was excellent. There is a story behind the name of the bar, but I will leave that for visitors to find out for themselves.

Stopped in for some drinks and met up with friends staying at the Westin. The bar is smallish and comfortable. Drinks were good and service was reasonable. Arrived at 6pm and our friends already had a table waiting for us so no issues there. Quiet enough to have a conversation and be able to hear each other. Would stop by again if in the area.

Clock bar alwasy seems noisy & crowded so we opted for lbooy bar. Fun to people watch & festive druing holidays. Service good. I have to say though, I so miss the Compass Rose. It now sits empty. Big mistake. Please reopen it & give us the classic bar back!

My girlfriend and I stopped in on a Saturday night for a couple of drinks. We got there just before 9pm and were able to get a couple of seats at the bar. Our bartender was very friendly and helpful. My girlfriend ordered a Bee's Knees and really liked it. (kinda pricey at $15 a pop) We also ordered some lobster corndogs. They were ok, probably not something I would order again. Over all we enjoyed our time here. It is a great location in The City being right on Union Square.

I came here last year and thought the bar was hip, mainly because we had the most delicious cheese and bacon popcorn along with our chartreuse swizzles. I returned again this week only to discover the popcorn has gone off the menu as they "felt the need to move on". Now, if they had moved on to other such wonders, then fair enough. But no, they appear to have "moved on" to chips (fries), olives and nuts. Are you kidding? Sadly not. The atmosphere is buzzing but often loud and crowded. No way is this bar big enough for the hotel it serves. The drinks list is extensive but the service could be warmer. Overall, nice enough but quite pricey and totally pointless without the popcorn

Nice selection of cocktails with a variety of Absinthe. Interesting little knosh available. Vibrant crowd.

Place is noisy and not very comfortable. Seemed to have a very limited selection a booze, beers and cordials.

The staff were very accommodating and we were able to sit up at the bar & received complimentary refill on our cocktails...who does this for Native San Franciscans like us...very nice tip followed :)

If you're looking for a cocktail bar with classic touches this works well. Just a nice comfortable spot to enjoy a cocktail.

Nice place to sit and visit. Husband enjoyed his drinks. My coke was just a coke - health prevents me from imbibing. We wanted to order snacks, but couldn't because the restaurant kitchen wasn't open...really?

A great place to end a busy day at the Westin St. Francis. Very good whiskey selection with friendly, quick service.

Popular bar in the Westin St Francis Hotel. The surrounding are grand , the service professional and relaxed , the drinks expensive. Good choice of local wines and interesting cocktails. Well worth a visit.

Enjoyable time spent here watching people and having an after dinner drink. Prices are SFO Tourist High but they pride themselves with the "mixologists" who are fun to watch. Spend some time here at the bar or hanging out in one of the comfy looking lounge areas.

Nice downtown bar - good bourbon drinks. Would have enjoyed a larger wine list with more California wines.

very busy but fun atmosphere. best wings and hamburgers in town. clean tiny area may nave to wait for table but worth it

Great spot to meet up if you are in the area. Service was friendly and efficient. Drinks were tasty and the vibe was good.

Noisy and not what I expected. Only had one drink and left. The clocks showing the times round the world were wrong as well so didn't see the point of them.

I had a fantastic cocktail in this bar, it had rhubarb in it, I would highly recommend it! The menu was very expensive and very short, so I opted for room service instead.

On our first stay at the Westin St Francis, in May of last year, I had stopped by the Clock Bar in the lobby. I had not been impressed by the wine list, and service seem indifferent. I was not planning on stopping by on this June trip, until the manager of the other lobby bar, Caruso’s, around the corner, mentioned that the Clock Bar’s wine list had improved. She was correct. Someone had reworked it. The list was still short, as cocktails are the primary focus, but I was glad that I stopped in. I started with the Tangent Edna Valley Albariño, and moved onto the Newton “Unfiltered” Napa Chardonnay, both in a B-T-G (as well as by the bottle) selection. It looked like the bar bites menu might have changed too, but then I did not study it in depth, on my previous visit. The feel of the bar had not changed, and it still reminded me of maybe the old Men’s Grill at my country club – a definite “club feel.” I need to stop by in the evening, to get a feel for the venue, when it is more crowded. Also, my service this time was excellent, so another “improvement.” In all, a nice, relaxing visit, and so convenient, when staying in the Westin St Francis.

Great bar. Pricey, but modern and a great location. We were staying at the St Francis, otherwise, I know better places.

Stayed at the hotel and after a fun afternoon out and about stopped in for a drink. Bartender was fun and crowd was good. Several people in for an oil industry event so loads of interesting conversation. After a fun night out we stopped back in for a drink again and new bartender and still fun. Place was pretty busy and now the out of towners were joined by some locals. Agree with other reviews about the high prices but probably in line with most hotel bars.

Don't bother , not much choice with cocktails , and the staff are very unfriendly ! I tried to make a conversation with a waitress and she made me feel as though I should not have even spoken !!

Just left the Clock Bar, and had the Kobe burger tonight! Despite losing my voice, Holly was excellent and helped me select the Kobe Burger which was One of the BEST Burgers I have had in a while. Highly recommend! Thank you Holly and the great staff for excellent service, and food. I'll be back soon!

Nice spot to catch a breath during holiday shopping. Craft cocktail was quite tasty. In the Westin st. Francis

This is the bar that was open while we were there. The Roosevelt Room was closed. This is a small area with two entrances, nice, but not fancy.

This was our first stay at the Westin St Francis, but we used to frequent a restaurant in the lobby, across from the Clock Bar, Michael Mina’s (later BourbonSteak, but now closed), and I often commented that we needed to visit the Clock Bar, as it was so interesting looking, from the outside. On this May trip, I made that happen, though solo, as my wife was in meetings. The Clock Bar is small, a bit dark, and has a “clubby” feel, but in a comfortable, and good way. As our “dining card” was already heavily filled, I stopped in for some wine. I was a bit disappointed in the wine list – short, with not much depth, but I did have enough to work with. I started with the S.A. Prum “Essence” Riesling from the Mosel ‘15, moved on to the Neyers Carneros Chardonnay ‘14 and then to the Sobon Estate “Old Vine” Zinfandel ‘14. Service was very good, though the bartended did seem to “disappear” from time to time. I staked out a seat at the bar (tables available), and broke out my WiFi hotspot, an iPad, and actually did some work, while sipping wine. I cannot comment on any WiFi in the bar, or hotel areas, as I bring my own. A lovely way to spend an afternoon – open at 4:00pm, in an historic setting, in a lovely hotel.

You know.. I love the St Francis hotel. I don't mind paying extra for a drink because of where I am.... But on a freezing day in SF the clock bar opened at 4 pm.. We popped in for quick drink and snack and the very nice bartender gave us the bar menu and took our order. We wanted a snack with our cocktails and we could not get one.. NO nuts, olives, an appetizer.. NOTHING... Why put menu in front of your guests if you can't order from it. The kitchen doesn't open till 5.. As much as I enjoyed my VERY MODERN Cherryless old fashioned...... Call me old fashioned but I like snack with my drink.. If the kitchen doesn't open till 5 then comp snacks should be served.. if that can't happen then the bar should open when the kitchen does.... period. Skip the clock bar... There are so many better establishments in the area for 18 dollar cocktails.

We had drinks in here with friends. Whilst it's a nice setting, it definitely caters for the tourists and the prices reflect this. Not really a spot for SF locals!

This place is pricey and loud; but a good environment for a post-meeting cocktail or a night on the town. Service was spotty - simply because they were so busy we assumed. Definitely an elegant environment with a lot of unique selections behind the bar; and the bartender was able to make classic cocktails without any question. A definite stop if you are staying at the hotel or in the area.

Named for the huge grandfather clock outside the entrance, the Clock Bar is right off the lobby in the Westin St Francis hotel. It is obviously the best place to meet up with your party before heading out, or after coming back from a night on the town. Like everything else in the Westin, the drinks are pricey. The wait staff do a good job of working the room, especially when convention attendees descend en masse. It can be rather amusing to watch grown men in suits try to get down on, and then off of, the low slung ottomans that comprise most of the seating in the place.

the bar tenders really know how to mix a cocktail, but they are not cheap. the snacks are freshly made and the waitresses are very friendly. its a bit small so you may have difficulty finding a place to sit.

We hit the clock bar for a pre-dinner drink...Naturally. This is a nice bar but not a destination. The seats are comfy and all. The service was well within hotel bar specifications. Helpful and efficient. As for the cocktails, they were clever, tasty, small and perhaps a bit pricey. I would not go out of my way to return to the Clock Bar, but I’m glad I dropped in once.

My husband and I enjoy a drink at the Clock Bar at the Westin St. Francis each time we are in San Francisco. We always sit at the bar rather than the lounge chairs and tables. We enjoy speaking with Rico and Steven, the wonderful bartenders. We have never ordered food from the bar menu, but glancing around, the food looked good. We like the warm, friendly, quiet atmosphere. It is always a perfect stop for us before heading off to dinner or the theater.

Service was excellent and that is why I rated it so highly. Wouldn't come here unless I was staying at the hotel, which we were. It was very noisy and quite chilly. The first night my work colleague and I opted out of staying. The second visit was when my husband joined me and it turned out to be ok.

We caught up with friends here for a drink and loved the atmosphere. The bar has a nice ambience about it and old word charm. The drinks were good and the service was quick and friendly. Not the cheapest drinking spot in town but certainly lovely bar to visit with a fantastic selection of alcohol to choose from. Good cocktails.

Excellent service. Lovely martinis. Lots of nooks and crannies for intimate conversations. Fairly pricey.

I visited here no less than 5 times in 4 days last week during Dreamforce. Twice sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive and friendly. The other three times we sat at tables and the service was awful. The one time was absolutely terrible. Ignored for half an hour by our server. We had to get the table of men next to us, getting far superior service, to flag her down. TWICE since she couldn't see us trying to get her attention. If we hadn't been so hungry we would have left for elsewhere. We certainly didn't stick around for more cocktails - we left and went up the street to the redwood room.

Great place to stop in for a drink. Definitely expect to pay top dollar for a cocktail here but they are uniquely created. Great environment for professionals seeking a quality drink at a quality venue. We were tourists and heard rave reviews - glad we stopped in but many other places to check out so we did not return again on our visit.

One of the best hotel bars I’ve been to in a while! I usually try to get out of the hotel but when I came here a few visits ago, I’m hooked! The staff is great and attentive and don’t let your glass go empty. The food is delicious, especially the KOBE BEEF burger!! Root beer float is good too and try with a vanilla vodka shot! Enjoy

Wandered in after a night attending a show at the Golden Gate Theater a few blocks away. It was after 11pm on a Wednesday evening ;we found the place almost 100% full! Prompt service impressed me. The martini order was perfect. The banquet seating was comfortable but the short backed chairs less though. This Bar is off the grand lobby of the Westin St Francis across from Union Square. The lobby is sad with little decoration and an abandoned restaurant directly across from the Bar Big city prices were as expected for one drink and one tonic with lime. The idea of loud music needed for having a great time is a out dated and requires revision Choice of music is not as important as amplification. After 40 minutes it was most annoying. Suggestion is cut the decibels by 30% M

We met a group at the Clock Bar for late night drinks on a Friday. Once I walked in, I noticed how crowded and loud it was. In fact so loud you could barely hold a conversation due to the music. Within a few minutes of us getting a table together, the waitress swung by and took orders. I tried the Barrel Aged Boulavadier which tasted like a complex Old Fashioned. Price was $14 which I didn't find unreasonable. It really depends on what kind of place you want. If you want a lively atmosphere, this will do the trick. If you are looking to hold a conversation, then I'd seek another place.

Fun cocktails and good choices/options. A vibrant environment and fun. Good small eats round out a solid spot for a drink.

I am so disappointed during my last visit to this bar. The service was so slow and waited about 30 minutes before they even came to our table and took our orders. Considering it is in the height of the holidays shoppers and two weeks before Christmas, you think they will be full staff, but unfortunately there was only (1) person taking the order and the same person bringing the drinks to our table. I believed this bar is own by Michael Minna. My sister ordered the Manhattan (which is. It watery) and I ordered Lost In The Fog (which was too sweet). I’ve been here before 2 years ago also around this time and I truly enjoyed my experienced. Maybe they were having some kind of crisis that day we went, but they need to wake up and solve the problems or they may loose their clientele.

What a great little cocktail bar near to Union Square. We were a mixed group of friends looking for a quick drink together before a show at the Curan Theatre across the street. We wandered into the Westin looking for a bar and were directed to the Clock Bar, nearer to the Union Square/St. Francis Hotel entrance. It's a cute lounge, very upscale feeling without being pretentious. Great place to meet for a date or an after hours business meeting. Our server was incredibly kind and competent. She caught a crack in our glass and had it changed out right away. Our cocktails were excellent and I would come back for these anytime. They were inventive enough and all around $15-17, which is not awful for a hotel bar in a touristy area. They all tasted great. We had the: (1) El Beso Ardiente, which was a lovely slightly spicy, sour flavor (2) Curiouser and Curiouser, which was kinda berry and gingerish. Towards the end this was kind of sweet, but an ice cube in it made it great. (3) White Rabbit, which was sweet and light, but still had some complexity. (4) The Woman in Red, which sounds like a light champagne drink but came out more like a wonderfully-bubbly and ginger cocktail. This was my personal favorite of the 4. I'd eagerly come back here. Pro Tip: Check in on yelp and post a photo on social media for $5 off your bill!

....because we got to see a man and his "girlfriend" making out to the point of disgusting. Maybe it was a good thing they hid under his jacket so they could do what they did. I'm disappointed that the staff didn't seem to care that those two made it uncomfortable for the other patrons. Okay service.

Nice panelled old school intimate hotel bar. Emphasis seems to be on bourbons and tequila’s with a vast selection of choices. The mixologists were talented and friendly. Overall a good way to start the evening.

The staff was nice but because it is a hotel bar they mark up the food and drink. A Manhattan and a hamburger was $38. I knew I should have gone around the corner to Morton's Steakhouse for 1/2 the price and a better hamburger.

Stopped in here for a quick drink before dinner a while go. Outstanding cocktail selection. Beautifully decorated. Fantastic service! No point in getting "the usual" because there are so many wild and different options on their menu. I especially like the Madhattan (their take on a Manhattan). Next time I will go when I have more time so that I can try some of the delicious looking snacks on the menu too!

Came here for regular sun down drinks before dinner. Did not eat here, but the cocktail staff are first rate and their variance on classics such as the Old Fashioned was welcomed.

We' had this on our list of places to stop after walking around union square. Not anymore. Not a lot of servers so it took a while before we got our drink order. Then when the martini's arrived they were not anywhere near what I would consider a reasonable amount the glass was just over half full. I rarely complain about drink size but this was such a ripoff that I had too. It was unbelievable the server pretty much said it was normal size. I requested to speak to the manager and he said that standard martinis are 3oz and that is what I got. At that point we got out of there never to return.

Because the bar is such a popular spot, particularly during the holidays, it gets noisy and service can get slow. The decor is trendy and many of the drink options very interesting, but the bar doesn't stand out from any of the other options nearby.

We stopped here for a drink after dinner one evening. It was very crowded with fols from a conference which was held in town. I think this happens most days. It is not a big space and the only place to get a drink in the hotel after 8-9 pm. The servers tried hard, but had to squeeze through bodies perched everywhere. The cocktails were sensibly sized, ie not the huge, on your face size, and delicious. They were A;ic in wonderland themed and very tasty. Fun spot if you can get in and find a place to sit. Very limited food menu. Atmosphere is mixed styles. Can't see the lobby although it is right off of it and behind the curtains is a window. would have enjoyed it much more without the crowd.

New to me - a great bar just as you enter the St. Francis. Enjoy a nice glass of wine and a wonderful cheese plate. Great service.

Nice atmosphere, especially for a hotel bar. Good drink menu. Service was hit or miss - took forever to get served and get a bill.

Lovely ambience to this bar Service was good Drinks very of a good standard Lovely seating area Price was appropriate to the setting

From the outstanding bartenders, Carlos in particular to the great food and drinks this place was a great vibe. Our son who worked at a fine dining restaurant and bartended was very impressed with the drink quality. You walk in after a day of site seeing and was instantly greeted with a warm smile and Carlos would remember your plans and ask about your day. Not sure how he keeps the conversation going whilst making fantastic drinks. Great experience while in San Fran at the Westin.

The bar opens at 4 and quickly fills up on weekends. They have a great drink list, service was great, and the drinks were perfectly crafted.

I have fantastic experience at this place! The bartenders not just make my day, they just make me feel real and happy! Not just because of drinks I have done they act like friends I know many years! I have memorable experience and even put names in my iphone! Jaime is the ruler of the place! Hey Jaime i hope you read this and cheers to you from Stan!

Try it! The food and beverage options are good, although it can get a bit crowded and noisy at key times.

During our stay at the Westin we found this place to be very comfortable, nicely furnished and a nice atmosphere and ambience. The staff were very friendly too.

Often times when going to a hotel, the hotel bar is nothing to remember. Formulaic, stale, run of the mill…yada yada yada! So it’s refreshing when you discover a place like The Clock Bar at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco at Union Square. They know how to make their drinks! Mixologists? Sure. But what stands out is they take pride in the most basic cocktails. Take their Bombay Sapphire Martini with a lemon twist, extra-dry: perfectly cold and dry with a hint of lemon. Yes believe it or not it was fantastic! And that defines a true bartender: one who can hold a disussion but takes care to make sure that cocktail is perfect. Nothing rushed, just lots of TLC. When there, ask for Steve. If he’s bartending you’re in good hands!

I love a good hotel bar and I love history. Every San Franciscan knows that the St. Francis clock has been a historic meeting place. Today I just popped in for a glass of red wine after some shopping in Union Square. The space is slightly odd in decor; part leather and wood, part digital display and lit columns. I wish it were a bit more exposed to the hotel lobby in order to people watch. Service was good - complimentary nut bowl (always a plus). Maybe it’s where I was sitting, but it was freezing. The a/c would intermittently cycle off - and when it was off, it was perfect. It’s no Marriott Marquis View Bar, but it’s solid.

This hotel bar is no staid waiting area, but a destination for locals and tourists who enjoy a lively yet upscale atmosphere, great bartenders, and overall good vibe.

we'd read about this bar and decided to try it out- glad we did. We just went for happy hour before dinner ad they had fun cocktails and nice atmosphere- helps that it's in a beautiful hotel as well

a great place to spend a night or a lat afternoon, maybe having one of the best burger I've ever had in San Francisco and drinking great wines and cocktails. I use to come back there everytime I'm in the city by the bay. Enjoy.

Expensive but a lovely treat!. Great service and a huge selection of drinks, we were very impressed.

Meet me at the clock bar. Lovely bar inside the St. Francis hotel which is right on Union Square and on the Powell street cable car. Great woodwork in the bar and a tv behind glass.

Nice, chill cocktail lounge in the lobby of the St. Francis. Good, attentive service. Decent wine and craft beer list. Nice cocktails.

Loved getting drinks here and planning the evening. Very good martinis!!! Service is excellent and you are definitely catered to. Expect to pay top dollar, but I think it was worth it. Memory making time.

Good cocktail, and pretty good ambience. Bartenders are amateurs though, and service is just so-so. Not a four or five star hotel bar experience.

The Clock Bar is in The Westin St Francis and like all hotel bars it is expensive. That said the drinks are ok and the service is good. The bar can be very noisy especially when there is a convention in town!

Had cocktails here before dinner a couple of times. Good service, good drinks. Digital clock advising of the time of day all over the world.

Good location and atmosphere with locals and people attending convention. Good selection of specialty drinks and Japanese Whiskies.

We enjoyed our evening drinks before going out to dinner. Must try the Rosebud! The caramelized onion dip was delicious!

It’s a cool place to walk in. The drink selection is extensive. The service, on the other hand, is terrible. Two days in a row my friend and I waited more than 30 minutes after sitting down. Making eye contact didn’t work. Going up to the bar didn’t work because we had “another server”. It looked like service was ok if you’re sitting at the bar, but forget about it if you have to sit at another table. I get than any place or anyone could have a bad day, but giving this one a second chance was a mistake.

Good service with attention to details. Drinks were well portioned, and the bar was busy. Great job guys.

I stayed at the Westin St. Francis and came here on a couple occasions for a drink. Decent prices and a nice place to hang out for a while.

Love the vibe of this bar!! Perhaps a little noisy but just get into it!! Fun and hip and great for people watching.

Brandon Nunez was a lot of fun - he and the others working at the bar were having a blast. And they were very knowledgeable

Good place to meet with friends. Love the Westin St. Francis. Super location. Quality service. Nothing is really stands out about the bar, menu, or service. All was fine. You'll be fine.

Great martini bar and lots of great people watching. Seating could be a bit more comfortable, but overall a lovely experience.

Excellent service, and located next to the historic magenta clock. Nice option for a relaxing evening.

Expensive drinks, be prepared. The cocktails are unique, difficult to make a choice as there are many ingredients. But we enjoyed our time here.

We stayed in this hotel and stopped in for a night cap. The bartenders were nice and chatty. The bartender made an extra drink for a table and we offered to drink it so they didn't waste it... however it ended up on our tab... I was not too happy about that. Next time I'll just have a drink in my room.

Comfortable and nice spot to grab a drink while taking a break on touring the city or starting / ending your night at the Westin St. Francis. Busy weekend, but never had a problem getting a seat.

Great stop after work - energetic crowd - good drinks. Bar food available plus limited dinner menu. Don't miss this.

My friend and I were going to dine in the Oak Room at the St. Francis and stopped at this bar for a cocktail beforehand. I was considering the Black Label Jameson's and bartender gave me a taste so I could decide. It was a nice place to relax after shopping all afternoon in the stores in Union Square.

I went there a couple of times and got a few drinks. I suggest the Manhattan with Rye that is really well done and to grab a delicious burger with fries. The place is a bit too noisy (1 star less for this) but fashionable and quite old style.

Visited this bar on my recent visit to San Francisco. Above average hotel bar. Variety of drink choices and late night food, so I'd call it a win.

Great spot for a quick drink after work. A classic cocktail bar in union square. It was crowded when we got there, service slow but friendly. Good martini of a little short in the pour. If you care more about the setting than the drink this place is for you.

very good service, good selection of food, a bit noisy but not crowded three nights in a row..I would suggest meeting here

Was in town for 3 days and loved this place so much we went back twice! Fabulous service, delicious cocktails and great atmosphere. Very popular, so best to book ahead.
Nice hotel bar, good for a night cap
Stayed at the St. Francis and our first night was after a long day on the road driving up the coast. It was nice to stop in and get a night cap. They have a good but not exhaustive selection as a smaller hotel bar, but they make up in quality what they may lack in quantity. I had a great bartender and a great Michter's Rye Manhattan at a pretty reasonable price (considering the prices in San Francisco generally are not inexpensive). Ended up talking with the CFO of Chateau Montelena at the bar and talking about good places to see in SF that are not the obvious tourist traps. It was a nice experience and I planned to go back the next night, but we ended up out somewhere else.
