Good Korean Food

By Carol R |

The food was very good and service was fast and friendly and reasonably priced. Our bill wasn't even $50.00 - It was mainly local folks eating here and we arrived early which was good because soon after the place was packed. It's not a large restaurant, so get there early. We had the combo pork tenderloin with sauces and it was off the hook! The fried chicken was ok, nothing to write home about. We shared a peach soju (one is definitely enough for 2 persons) and it was delish! The neighborhood is kind of seedy but don't that dissuade you, it's safe overall.

Oh my gosh.

By Emily W |

It was amazing! We had the bulgogi and spicy pork combo with the kimchi pancake. It was simply divine!!! The staff was super friendly and attentive! We could eat there ever day and never be disappointed!

Go for the friend chicken after a long, long run

By KingmanP |

My go-to joint for late night indulgence in SF. The typical Korean meals are available here, but my favourite item on the menu is the regular fried chicken (half). Oily, crispy, tasty goodness. I told myself not to eat it unless I run at least 10k, which I think is a good "guideline" to have. I've returned to this place within 5 hours before and they open until 2 AM! It is a wonderful hangover recovery joint. Favourite items: Fried chicken (regular, half) and Beef Bulgogi The place is small, rarely any seating in there. I recommend ordering to go. The staff are very friendly in general.

Great K(orean)FC!

By William F |

Need a KFC fix at 1am near Union Square? This is your place. Kimchi pancake rocks too! Expect it to be busy and not a lot of seating. Watch your favorite Korean girl groups perform music videos -- shown continuously! FUN

Good Korean Fayre

By Jimmy H |

Less than $50 got 2 of us 4 filling and very tasty dishes. Very handy that it's just 5 minutes walk from the hotel - it doesn't look much from the outside, it's not high end or über trendy - it's just good inexpensive cafe style food. We had the BBQ chicken and salad, potstickers (pork filled crispy dumplings), fried rice Kimchi and the spicy BBQ beef. Go early, queues develop quickly but it takes about 45 mins - 1 hour from ordering to having grazed your way through your dishes. It's good.

First time eating Korean - and it was good!

By James G |

Found this place after a long day of walking and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. The Korean beer is a bit bland but good value, while the kimchi and flaming chicken were both very tasty. Recommended!

Cheap for the quality you get

By Pierre6425618 |

Plenty of typical Korean dishes are available, a according to a Korean friend they reflect the taste of the food in the country. $12 should be enough for eat well and a sufficient amount. It would be better for you to like spicy meals though.

Loved the food

By SSubedi |

I had the chicken n pork combo it was soooo good n the fish cake ugh to die for. We also had the clear noodles there is a wait though. So busy not fancy but it tastes like good Korean home cooking. Loved it! Definitely a must try.

Great food, simple atmosphere but pleasant.

By Lotzofun |

We stopped by for a light dinner and were pleasantly surprised that the restaurant lived up to the positive reviews. The pan fried dumplings were amazing, possibly the best I have had. We also had the beef short rib BBQ which were extremely tasty. We also had the mango soju slush which was the perfect companion to the food. The atmosphere was pleasant but simple. The service was attentive.

Best meal in San Francisco

By Mickimoto32 |

We ate there one night and then Door Dashed it the next night because it was so good. We got the spicy chicken with cheese both nights and tried bulgogli and a different beef. The place is small so we did wait about 15 minutes to sit, but it was worth the wait. I would definitely eat here a third time.

Great introduction to Korean food for me

By MkTrekker |

Great tasting food, delivered fast. It's worth a few minutes wait for a table. I especially liked the soft tofu soup.

Amazing Fried Chicken and Japchae noodles!

By Beverly F |

Japchae, fried chicken, short ribs all amazing and delicious! A must visit every month when i am in SF! Nice staff and consistently yummy food.

Small but good!

By Marie L |

Small koren resturant with about 10 tables. Great food with a fun atmosphere.this is a non touristy must try!

Very Good Korean Food

By AlanSanDiego |

Ate at Cocobang twice and it was very good. Cheap, close to Union Square. Small place but worth trying.

Flavorful and reasonable price

By TravlsSometimes |

This place is small but the food tasty. I had the Bolgogi beef salad and a Tofu Kimchi dish with a side of rice. I hadn't had Korean food in a while and found these dishes did not disappoint. Just enough spicy flavors for me and was not that expensive. The tables are small and feels a little crowded but if you can overlook this I would recommend this place for lunch or dinner.

Tasty Korean

By Sean P |

Adequate Korean food. Have had better bim bop, but kimchee was just right. Dumplings were tasty, we got 2 more on the plate than the normal seven, but who's counting? "Chincken" was tasty, along with the bulgogi beef. Price was reasonable, $50 plus tip for family of four, and all left full and satisfied.

Amazing

By Alex C |

Never had Korean food before. Had spicy chicken dish with rice cakes and mixed veg and it was amazing. Really spicy and full of flavour. Served on a skillet and stayed perfectly hot from start to finish. The waitress was really helpful and advised on how spicy different dishes would be. The dish I had was "usually too spicy for foreigners" i.e. non-koreans, so I had to try it and was pleased I did. Overall a wonderful experience. Nothing posh and fancy decor-wise but a friendly and authentic experience in a small, simple restaurant. Fun K-pop music videos a bonus. Can't wait to visit San Francisco again and go back.

Great Little Restaurant, Perfect for Late Night

By Ross FM |

We visited this restaurant as a late night (after 9pm midweek) option and had a great time. The food is lovely, with a great range of Korean favourites and some specials. The service is attentive and pleasant. The ambience is a bit street-foody, but to be honest I think that really adds to the experience. The place has a great atmosphere. It is reasonably priced, too. We enjoyed ourselves so much we ordered to our hotel about five days later and the food was still great, even though we were about 20 minutes away.

Very good food and fun spot!

By BE_VA1234 |

We arrived in San Francisco late and were looking for a quick and tasty meal. We ordered the corn cheese which is exactly as it sounds. It was a very simple, tasty starter. We ordered the spicy pork and beef short rib. Both were very good, particularly the beef. The atmosphere was fun and laid back with K-Pop videos showing. Service was very friendly, and prices were reasonable.

open late and fun

By Barry C |

located near union square this Korean place seems to be a busy spot. We went there just because there was no wait when we got there and were quite impressed. The food menu is your standard Korean and was quite tasty. Wasn't anything fancy but was just an inviting place, nice place to hang out with friends.

Great place for a bite before a show!

By Anna B |

I found this place looking for a restaurant close to the Curran theater. The first night we were going to try and go, it was too busy and we didn't have time before we had to be at the show. This was partly our fault as we only arrived with about half an hour to curtain. The next time, we had tickets for a show at SF Playhouse which is several more blocks down from this restaurant. But we got there just before 5:30, when they said they would open. But they seated us at 5:15 and toon our order within a few minutes! The food was delicious, lots of chicken options and really delicious kimchi fried rice. The place is small and the first time we tried to go it was totally packed and there was a bit of a wait. But if you time it right, a great meal within walking distance of several theaters.

Sticky rice? No, sticky floor

By Zachary H |

This place clearly has a following! On the Saturday night that we visited, we may have been the only non-Koreans (a good sign!). An important note is that this restaurant is truly filthy. The walls are dirty, the floor is sticky and the plates were not properly cleaned. My glimpse into the kitchen was also a bit scary. Lots of likely health code violations here. We ordered the fried chicken (surprisingly tasteless), potstickers (good), and spicy tofu soup (also good). Prices are very reasonable, which I believe explains the generally good reviews. We won’t be back, mostly because of the extremely dirty state of the restaurant. This may be your thing, but it wasn’t ours.

Best fried chicken

By JChan |

My two friends and I shared their half fried chicken with sweet and tangy sauce and their beef short ribs. Portions were bigger than we though and both were delicious. The fried chicken was one of the best I've ever had. The breaking on the chicken wasn't too thick and it was crispy and juicy on the inside. The sauce was delicious and addicting. You can't stop eating after the first bite. Beef short ribs came on a sizzling plate and was also very good. The meat was tender and very flavourful. As with all korean restaurants, they gave you 4 dishes of appetizers. Fish cakes, bean sprouts and two dishes of radishes. I wasn't a huge fan of the cubed radishes as it gave you a funny aftertaste. Overall a great restaurant with great food. The line up was long since the restaurant was small and only offer a few tables, but worth the wait.

Rude Service, Never Coming Back

By Dana C |

Long review incoming: My family had called and ordered food by phone for me to pick up at the restaurant. We are tourists from NYC and had found this place near our hotel - looked good so we decided to order. Little did I know I would be faced with attitude. When I went to pay, they would not accept my 20 dollar bills because they were "old" (is this legal?). I told them we get them from the bank and that they could use a marker to check if it were real. Nope. So I walked back to my hotel and searched for "new" 20s and other money. After coming back and finally paying, I asked if I could get the rice free (it cost $2) because they made me go back to get different money, the person told me, you guessed it, "no". She could of at least paid for the plastic bag (10 cents) or something? And when I arrived, my family only had one fork to eat the food with... Not even chopsticks even though I am Asian... Very insulting to me. My family and I don't plan to order from here again. The food was fine but you can get the same food from any other Korean restaurant. If we have a craving, we can go somewhere else. (For example, Ryoko, a sushi restaurant diagonally across the street from Coco makes mouth-watering fresh sushi).

Yum

Tasty, tasty meal . Lovely people. I’ve been told I need to write more stuff but I think my first fifty characters are all I need to share

Still my favourite in SF

By TheSandyCat |

Yet another visit to CoCo Bang in San Francisco. Remains my favourite dinner venue. Mainly for the food. Seems most Koreans prefer this place too which is always a good sign. Music is a bit loud but the Gagnam Style atmosphere is pretty cool. Prices are low compared to the quality of the food. Personally I go for the spicy and savoury dishes like Fire Spicy Chicken, Beef Short Rib BBQ, Bibimbab and Pan fried clear noodles. This is soooo goood! Be there early as is it is very popular, quite small and you cannot book a table. If usure what to eat, ask the friendly staff for advice.

Tasty food and attentive service

By Texasmuth |

This place is small so be prepared to wait and sit close to your neighbors. It's not fancy. Large portions so better to order multiple dishes and share. Good vibe.

SURPRISE

By CASTRO_MAVERICK |

I wouldn't have known about this little place if it hadn't been for a friend visiting from Florida. Had the bibimbop and it was good although was served in the cold side. OB Beer was a delight. Friendly staff too

My go to late night place

By Rahul V |

The spicy pork and the chicken with Hot and tangy sauce are amazing! You have to try this bustling spot!

Pretty Good Korean BBQ Near Union Square

By Philip D |

My daughter has recently got into Korean BBQ and suggested this place after a Google search. On entry, the place was packed with many Asian faces (usually a good sign). We had some of the fried dumplings as an appetizer and the split BBQ plate(s) to try a range of the food. All was good, tasty stuff and we went back a second time within the week we were in SF. I'm knocking off a star for the relatively modest selection of appetizers and no fountain drinks (cans only) but that is being a bit harsh for the food is 5* for a hole-in-the-wall place. Worth a visit.

Korean deliciousness

By Nando C |

Food is amazing and delicious. Great affordable prices, big portions. Couldn't even finish the whole plate myself and Im a big guy (6', 240 pounds). If you are in SFO you have to come. On the downside, they only have like 7 tables so you have to wait a while. Also, some of the glasses were they served the beer were a bit dirty.

Great late night dining!

By JoeKas83 |

We were looking for a place to eat supper and this came up in our search. It’s a small but good place. Try the mixed meat hot plate, the beef short rib was my favourite. Make sure you get some alcohol to go with your meal, the yoghurt soju is a must if you’re ordering something more spicy and need a way to cool off. Good place for a couple or small group of friends to catch up and have a good time.

Super happy we found this spot

By plz2meatu |

Very attentive staff, great service. Food was excellent. Galbi (BBQ short ribs) was not as sweet of a marinade as I have had at a dozen places, but was still very good. Bulgogi was excellent. Thinking of a second visit before we leave town.

Very Good late night spot

By pae_cyberdude |

Late Night in SF, needed something quick and tasty and these guys fit the bill ! had the ribs and spicy pork, and was not disappointed. Was so hungry that the chopsticks worked perfectly (thats never happened before!) . Nothing fancy about the decor, just good Korean food.

Korean fries chicken at it's best

By Clauds179 |

We ate here with friends and it was so delicious we came back the next night. The fried chicken, beef short rib and shredded beef were all excellent. With Korean pop songs playing on the big screen and almost all the patrons Korean we knew it was authentic.

Love cocobang

By LoveTravel738786 |

The best spicy tofu soup in San Francisco. I love to try Korean food all over the place and Cocobang is my Favorite and also Server are so kind and great service mind. Highly recommend if you love spicy food. ❤️

Cocobang with a bang!

By Ifada J |

So, I store out for dinner on my second night in SF and right in front of me is this Korean restaurant named Cocobang. I try it out and all I've got to say to you is: please try it! I learnt how to use chopsticks here, by the way.

Exceptional korean food in a modern style setting

By TheSandyCat |

This seems to be the favourite place of many Koreans in San Francisco, and for good reason. Food is fantastic, very attentative staff and a style that might appeal particularly to the "younger" generation, which is also evident from the clientele. A large screen shows "artsy" Korean images, fairly loud Korean music plays from the loudspeakers but not too loud, just enough to give it all a "modern" urban feel. The food and staff are my primary reasons for visiting time and time again. They also serve a very tasty combo of three small dishes as a complimentary starter. If you pay cash they offer a 10% discount but prices are reasonable anyway considering the quality and amount of food served. Be early on weekends or book a table. The place is sometimes full as early as 6 pm (they open at 5.30 pm) but it is worth waiting for :-).

If I lived in San Francisco I wouldn't be going back here

By Krustybee |

I have had some amazing korean food before...this was not it. The little plates of food that they bring out before your food is usually a good indication of how good the food is going to be. They only brought out 3 and they were meh. One was a sliced smoked fish cake, that my drunk friend swore was bologna, one a pickled bean sprout and the other maybe a diakon. Never have I been to a Korean restaurant that didn't offer kimchi but there was non to be found. I had the spicy tofu soup...it was lacklustre, I didn't finish it. My friend had a glass noodle dish, that she ate very little of. My drunk friend had potstickers that she said were amazing, but we couldn't identify the meat in it...and she was drunk. The place wasn't the cleanest. If I lived there I wouldn't be going back. It's unfortunate that I suggested it, saying Korean food is awesome, to the 2 ladies I was travelling with who have never had Korean food. I feel like they may never partake again because of it.

Yummy late night dinner!

By Kimberly C |

We popped into this lively Korean restaurant for a late dinner and loved it! My husband had the kimchee fried rice, which was exceptional! I liked that they had a projector playing music videos.

Late night....dine in/carryout

By NitasWay |

This is a cool lil spot to check out and get some grub on the late night. I feel in to this place at like 2am after hanging out in the city and it was packed. I'm glad that I was only looking for some takeout and it hit the spot. I don't get to venture out for Korean delights in NC so this was a great treat and it was inexpensive. It was lively and they were nice....even at two in the morning.

Ok

By KLJ |

Acceptable for a quick Korean fix, but not exceptional in any category, although the kids enjoyed the K Pop videos. Food was just OK.

Tasty and affordable Korean - in the heart of downtown San Francisco

By Frank V |

CoCo Bang is close to downtown San Francisco, on he border of the Tenderloin and Nob Hill. The menu is classic Korean, generally with western titles to make the ordering process a little easier. The Spicy tofu Soup ( Sun Du Bu ) is tasty and not too hot. The Bi Bim Bap was excellent, with fresh ingredients ( carrots, sprouts, spinach) and nicely marinated beef. The pancheon (appetiser dishes) were great with the kim chi delicious and the fried fish paste (eomuk bokkeum) very flavorsome. Authentic Korean flavors at a very affordable price - recommended!

The food is fantastic. You will want to come back for more!

By Per Martin B |

The food is fantastic. The service is good. The prices are fair. Grabbed som take away one day and had to come back the next day to for more. Satt down this time. The only thing keeping this place from 5 dots is the premises. They’re kind of charming, but they are not fresh, and cleaning could have been better.

love the food

By Meric |

A local friend of us took us to this place, and he knew the best food there since he was a regular customer. The food definitely did not disappoint us. The cozy environment, nice food, nice service. Recommended.

Great authentic food!

By TraveledViking |

The wait is long, but the food is great! The service was friendly and quick. If you go, be prepared to wait at the door. This place is small, but they turn over the tables quickly. The kimchi pancake was awesome, so were the spicy beef short ribs!!!

So-so Coco

By MeowPaws |

I've eaten in better Korean restaurants. This hole-in-the wall is dark, cramped and not very clean. The food is average.

Amazing Fried Chicken

By Daryl D |

Great traditional Korean bbq fare and delicious fried chicken! Would also recommend the Army Soup. The main proteins are hot dogs and spam but it has amazing flavors.

Late night yummy!

By Kelly415 |

Ordered their fried chicken and kim chee fried rice to-go and it was perfect for a late night meal. Friendly staff and quick service!

Quick and Tasty!

By Brit T |

We came to California looking for delicious Korean food. Unfortunately, this is a bit hard to find in San Francisco. Coco Bang did not disappoint. We ate dinner here on Christmas, as it was one of the few places open. This place is TINY, but filled with locals. We had a short wait, but once we were seated our food came quickly. Between the five of us, we had fried chicken, galbi, bulgogi, ramen, and soup..all of it was very good. My biggest complaint was the banchan (sides) was not the best I've ever had. A bit expensive however, almost $100 for five people. This may not seem to be much, but we're used to $18/person for AYCE Korean BBQ back home.

Totally awesome

By Arpils |

This place is the real deal !! The food was excellent and the staff was very friendly. Loved it ! Just go

Dude! Where's my kim-chi?

By Fedora_Romanov |

I hadn't had Korean food since Harvard Square twenty years ago, so I was really psyched when I spotted Cocobang whilst looking for a brunch spot (see Honey Honey Bakery and Crepery). The restaurant is small. About half the crowd was Asian when we visited--always a good sign. Also, check the web site for photos of dishes. Limited beer and wine selections are available and eight soju drinks (Korean "vodka," about 40 proof). The menu is significant, with about twenty small dishes and soups, and about 40 entrees and specialties. Honey and I arrived shortly after they opened, and the place filled up quickly! A tasty three-chup tray was on the table (spinach, sesame scented bean sprouts, daikon), but no kim-chi(!). We started with potstickers, that were quite good. I reverted to an old favorite: Bi-bim-bap, a delightful arrangement of vegetables, rice and beef topped with an egg and copious amounts of spicy gochujang sauce, all mixed in together. It was delicious. But no kim-chi(!). Honey had Spicy Pork BBQ which he said was absolutely delicious; he doesn't "do" kim-chi, but that's okay because there was none(!). Given that Korean people eat kim-chi with every meal, I found its absence as a standalone item rather odd.Nonetheless, it was delicious from beginning to end, with gracious service throughout. Dropped in

By James S |

Worth the wait. Have not had Korean for a while and was delighted with the different flavours. Place is packed with tables close together which adds to the atmosphere. Will definitely be back. Staff very fast, friendly and attentive . Great value $

沒有選錯,好味 yummy

Originally want to visit a nearby sushi restaurant for late night food, passed by here and got attracted in. Ordered Stir-fried Kimchee with Pork, delicious. Would recommend

Great Korean Food

By R G |

Best Korean food I ever had. Full of flavours. Good portion size. Offers a good variety of food and drinks. Prompt and friendly service. Quite noisy.

very nice Korean food, but expect to wait

By M L |

This place has very nice Korean food. My wife and I had a soft tofu soup, and seafood pancake, pot stickers, and bbq beef and short ribs. All were very good to excellent, though the beef was a bit less good. (I think that the chicken or pork might have been better, but this wasn't bad.) The portions are pretty big. We also had some slightly fizzy rice wine that was pretty fun. The place is small, and it seemed like there was always a wait. We waited maybe 20 minutes, and other waited a lot longer. But, it's fun and the food is good and not too expensive. There are really awful K-Pop music videos playing, but not so loud as to be offensive. Still, it's not a place for a quiet evening. A fun place to go if you don't mind waiting. There is a 10% discount for paying with cash.

Amazing food!

By Zoey Noemie |

We had to wait a while to get seats (40 mins) but it was definitly worth the wait! The fried chicken + spicy beef ribs and spicy pork was amazing. Tasted just like when I visitered Korea! ☀️

Great Spot Open Late

By marlenehastape |

I was in San Francisco for business and had dinner here one night because it was open late and offered more than just bar food. It's a small place and the service is friendly. I had the bibimbap, it was good and a filling portion. They also give you a separate dish with all the trimmings. Good price too.
