We sat at the bar...bar staff very friendly. After selecting meat at the pit (which is weighed & prepped)...then choosing sides & paying at the till...then loading up with condiments & pickles etc we sat back at bar to eat our feast...ribs are huge & tasty with super soft meat...sides were delicious...drinks were well made...glad we popped in.

There are so many barbecue restaurants to choose from in Austin that it is difficult to make a decision. Since we were staying in a nearby hotel, we decided to give Cooper's a try. My husband is a serious barbecue fan, and he was seriously happy. Like several BBQ places we've enjoyed they serve meat by the pound. The young man who was slicing and serving was very helpful, right down to the "fatty or lean brisket" to regular or jalapeno cheese sausage (jalapeno of course!) They have self-serve pinto-style beans, onion slices, pickles, bread & BBQ sauce in the dining room, which consists of family-style long tables with benches. We sampled the cole slaw and green beans (with bacon) that were both good. They also have baked potatoes and other sides. The brisket was lean and moist. The turkey was great. Hubby loved the ribs, and the sausage was fantastic. Great place to eat!!!

We ate at this restaurant twice. Among everything, we ordered the sausage, pork ribs, beef ribs, and mac & cheese. All was excellent. When ordering, you let them know how much meat you want, they cut it and charge by the pound. You then order your sides separately. Extra BBQ sauce is by the seating area and you help yourself. The seating area is very informal where you sit at long picnic tables. The concept is pretty neat. It is not cheap, but worth it. We will return and highly recommend.

Stopped by for dinner last night, looking for friendly faces and good BBQ and we were in the right place. Line comes in from the door to the Meat guy, who slices and doles out the meat. We had already had Q for lunch so didn’t go heavy on the meats, just got some turkey (asked for half pound, he hand sliced .49 pound, so professional) and chopped beef in sauce. Also got a nice garden salad for about $5, and REALLY good banana pudding (with pieces of banana and hills wafers). Sides team was friendly, cashier was a blast to chat with. Lots of inside and outside tables. Nice “fixins” bar with pickles and onions and sauce, etc. Turkey was excellent, beef was very good, atmosphere is just what you want.

Lots of meat! It seemed expensive but it is a lot of meat. Sadly they were out of pork ribs so we had beef ribs which were good, we went on a Sunday night, long line but moved fast. Didn’t get cornbread because it was being cooked. Free pinto beans and loaf bread are a nice gift. Blackberry cobbler and teas were yummy

Came to Texas searching for "good" BBQ. Did some research on the internet and with friends. Drove to Austin seeked out the locations. Most places were full, no smell of barbecue, and people were not social distancing (covid-19) that was not going to work. once again hubby comes to the rescue finds a place in the unimaginable spot tuck between two high-rise buildings in downtown Austin. they had ample and door spaced out seating. in addition to a outdoor patio area which we discovered after we ate. The staff and service was excellent! The were very friendly and the food was incredible. What a great experience!

If you want a taste of Texan BBQ in a traditional environment you will not be disappointed. As we didn't have a clue what we were doing, the staff were very helpful. We had Rib, Sirloin, Brisket, Jacket Potato, Coleslaw, Ranch Sauces and it was cooked to perfection, the meat just melted in your mouth. Also this was the best Jacket Potato we have ever eaten. There was so much choice and it would be easy for your eyes to be bigger than your belly, however that is ok as you can have a doggie bag. Very authentic feel and the staff great, the bar area is popular and there is plenty of seating. It was that good we went again and the food was brilliant, this time we had sirloin with jalapeno and cheddar sausage, with jacket potato, great quality taste exceptional

The ordering process is a bit confusing but the meat was very good. It was a little salty for my taste, but otherwise tasty and tender. I’m not sure if I would return or try another venue.

Another local favorite. Customer service is on point! Cooper's is pleasantly different from most BBQ spots I've visited. At Coopers, not only do they have the drinks and utensils station, they also have a bread station where you can get as many slices as you want. Most places put 2 slices on your tray. Right next to the bread, there is a huge pot of beans and containers of jalapenos, pickles and onions that are complimentary. I ordered brisket, chicken, cornbread and ribs. All were tasty!

I was there just minutes ago. I bought some meat ( for one) that should be the most expensive of all, for 15 U$ and add a side of Mac and cheese and a scoop of apple cobbler and a Diet Coke. All 39 uss. The meat has a reasonable price but almost 25 dollars for some Mac and cheese and an apple cobbler and fountain soda seems too much . It was my first good here in Austin so I don’t know but it seems more like NYC kind of prices than souther ones

If this is great Texas barbecue I’m sticking to Arizona, North Carolina, Kansas City, or anywhere else. The meat was greasy. The “sauce” was flavorless except a hint of vinegar. The meat WAS tender, but that’s it.

I tried some brisket, beef ribs, pork ribs, and peach cobbler. Brisket was on point, would get again. Pork ribs were pretty good. Beef ribs had great flavor but a little tough. Cobbler only average.

Quirky cafeteria style. Order your meat by the pound, then slide your tray down the line and select your sides. Your “plate” is a hunk of butcher paper. If you want a beer with your meal you’ll need to seek it out at the bar, otherwise there’s tea and soda. Ribs were slathered in a salty sauce. Brisket was very good. Prime rib was dried out. Mac n cheese was ok. Beans were very southern - overcooked and over salted. Counter staff was unhelpful (was our first visit). Overall mediocre.

Was at the end of a business trip and had a few hours spare so did some sight-seeing in downtown Austin. As I am from the UK we dno't have a BBQ culture and whilst I dearly would have loved to try Franklins (their book is my BBQ bible!) I didn't really have the time. So found this place on Google. Not quite sure how old this place is or if done up to look a little ragged but didn't really matter as the food was great. I had to ask how it worked and the meat server was very kind to explain. Ended up with some brisket and smoked sausage. Added a coleslaw side. Then after paying you add some free to choose additions (sauce, beans, white onion, pickles, bread and jalapenos on the table. The brisket was great, soft like butter, great flavour. The sausage was good, perhaps a little dense for my liking. the barbeque sauce could have been a bit peppier or thickened up but perhaps that is a texan/Austin style. But overall a great meal. There was no queue Thurs lunchtime and was a relaxed meal.

Located in the center of Austin and beautifully rustic. Wide range of meats and a large bar. You can sit at beer benches like in the Bavarian beer garden. Simple and quaint!

Low-key, high energy atmosphere. From the moment you walk in bartender is friendly directs you back to meet order area and they open up the pit. I’m certain my eyes doubled in size when they raise the lid to see all of the sumptuous options they offer. You order by the pound you pick exactly the meat you want to have a sliced. The jalapeño mac & cheese is not to be missed. They offer free pinto and beans, take them up on it! They are delicious. The entire atmosphere feels like you belong from the minute you walk in.Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy yourself at Cooper’s.

Stacks of meat, it's good but I think there's a better bbq in Austin. They don't weigh it until after it's been cut here so you ask for a slice and it's an absolute mountain of a cut.

Yum! This was a great dinner! Lots of tender, lean meat and delicious sides, and whatever you do, don’t skip the peach cobbler! It was amazing. It really fast too, cafeteria style but high quality food. Really reasonably priced too.

Someone on the streets of Austin recommended Coopers….and we were so glad we listened! This place is great BBQ. Your first step is to choose the meat/s and how much you want….don’t want ‘this’ piece, well, show me which one you want and how much? THAT was great! Loved to get what I wanted and the amount that I did….and then you pay for it by the pound! That was a bit surprising when the $$$ all got added up, but it was worth it! Lots of sides options as well. For meats we had the brisket, jalapeño/cheese sausage along with cornbread, Mac ‘n Cheese, Corn on the Cob and slaw. All was great and you won’t leave hungry…that’s for sure…and we ended up bringing some home to enjoy later as well!

I won't go again. We had some brisket and a beef rib. The rib was mostly the bone and they weigh it and you pay by the pound which was 2/3 bone weight. It was tough and pretty crusty/burnt. The brisket was probably 1/3 fat and stringy. The potato salad was okay and the peach cobbler was good. The cobbler was clearly the highlight.

We loved our experience at Cooper's. It is a very casual place and all staff we interacted with went out of their way to be friendly and welcoming. We had the brisket, which was really excellent. In fact, I bought the brisket rub they sell. We also loved the cobbler dessert. The other foods we tried were just so-so. The mac and cheese and macaroni salads were too gooey for our taste and the grilled corn had some marinade I wasn't expecting. But, the brisket and ambience more than made up for it!

Great brisket! I would go there just for that. The rest was pretty good as well but the brisket stands out for me.

An open dining experience that was run efficiently with helpful, courteous staff. The prices were a tad high while the food not bbq remarkable-at least the prime steak and sides. The green beans were definitely a strike, with an over cooked strange fishy flavor. Otherwise a pleasant experience

Great little place in downtown Austin. Met a business partner for lunch. Food was great and pretty quiet so we had an impactful meeting.

The place is very nice, the decoration is very characteristic of the place, all the employees are very helpful, and of course, the meat is very well done, (particularly the brisquet), the accessories are also excellent, there are many local beers.

On the final four days of a 30 day cross-country vacation..... and WOW! Top 2 (maybe tie for #1) meal in over 12 States. The customer service was great and friendly, food crazy great, and ambiance is super fun! Not only recommend, hope to come back to Austin to have more!

We had the pork chop, chopped beef sandwich, coleslaw and mac & cheese. The pork chop was our favorite. Used the sauce to cut the salt though.

It is a very informal BBQ restaurant where you can taste excellent meat dishes with side dishes and various accompaniments. The order takes place at the counter where you can choose the various cuts and sauces, then you move to the salad counter, potatoes, mc&cheese and other accompaniments, drinks with unlimited filling, sauces and toppings are free in the appropriate dispenser. Very good meat quality, recommend brisket and ribeye accompanied by special sauce

Excellent barbecue meat, seasoned with a typical atmosphere, for me, as it is the first time I go to a place like this, it was fantastic. Excellent brisket and steak 😋 average prices for the place

My friends and I ordered the brisket, ribs and sausage. All of them were good, but my favourite was the brisket, which was so tender and fragrant. I love the pinto beans at the self-service station too.

We popped in after a lot of drinks at a local bar and the bar tender recommended it. The bbq was very good, as was the potato salad. It was a little crowded and noisy....but a fun atmosphere.

Walking distance from the Convention Center. Very good BBQ. As you walk in you select your type of meat and the amount in ounces. It's cut, wrapped and put on a tray. You take it to the counter where it is sliced, while you select your containers of sides. The mac 'n cheese and potato salad were excellent. Pay, grab utensils (metal), find a chair or bench and then go to the cooler where you can ladle out your own beans (quite good). I had a half pound of brisket and it was very good.

Definitely the best brisket I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot of brisket😄 the sides we’re home cooked too and the complimentary beans were a yummy addition! If you love BBQ you won’t want to pass this up for lunch of dinner. Small tip: A little of their meat goes a long way!

Came here with my family for some good ole Texas BBQ. We got a large variety of dishes but the stand-outs were: turkey, peach cobbler, bacon and jalapeno mac n cheese, beef rib. If you go a bit before dinner rush it'll be easy to find seating quickly.

Have never been to Austin before so a pit BBQ was a must... A short walk from my hotel I went here, no booking required. Not sure if Cooper's is typical of BBQ restaurants in Austin but ordering is different to anything I have experienced before. You arrive and are given a hearty greeting by a bar tender (bar is next to entrance). He sends you up to a counter. There a server is in charge of the already cooked, and being kept warm, meats. You point at various things and make your selection. You are tempted to ask for more than you need because you are not sure which meats/flavours you want - I had pork ribs, sausage and brisket. He then wraps it up like a takeaway and hands it to you. You put it on a tray and then go along a counter selecting what you you want as sides - I chose mac n cheese and grilled corn, And a banana pudding for desert. You then pay and find a seat on long shared tables. And then realise you don't have a drink so go to the bar. On returning to your table you realise you have ordered far too much! All tasty but feels more canteen than restaurant. And, a rarity for me, I simply could not finish all the meat. Just too much. All in all, a fascinating experience and, if I ever have the chance to go back I would - especially now I know how the place works!

Excellent food choices. Delicious BarBQue. Choices of sides were hard to choose. Roasted corn and pinto beans were amazing

Really good bbq for this first time Austin visitor first night dinner on 17 Feb. Really enjoyed the brisket and pork ribs. Good sides too!

Brisket was delicious...you choose th emeet and sides and eat picnic style..plenty of options...food is fresh and delicious...there is a cool bar...prices are very reasonable...could have had better baked beans!!

Had the brisket and ribs. Really wished we had two stomachs because everything was amazing! The pinto beans as a side was a bonus! Great food! Loved the atmosphere. Glad we come early (11:30) because we were able to get a table on the main floor right away. The beer selection was impressive. Wish we had one in Washington state!

Excellent food. Great service. We were seated and eating within 15 minutes. The meat was juicy and delicious. Love their dry rub.

We were in Austin for four days, ending on 8/1, and ate here twice: once on Sat. night and again today for lunch. Dinner blew us away--the brisket was the juiciest, most flavorful we've ever had, and both the ribs and sausage made our dinner "out of the park" delicious. At today's lunch, the brisket and chicken were both good, but could have benefited by a bit less time on the grill--both were on the dry side. The do have tossed salad, which allowed us to eat "lighter" before heading to the airport. Our review for Sat. is separate, and all 5's. Today's review reflects a different experience: still good, but be sure to ask for the freshest meat, and you'll have a memorable, "Saturday Night" experience.

The Brisket was just okay but the pork ribs were dried out and salty. The potato salad and beans were quite good.

We only had a few days in Austin and weren’t willing to give up the better part of one to go to some of the other Texas barbecue places that require you to line up hours before they open or risk having them run out by the time you get to order. We went here as a good alternative. You walk through picking your meat and sides and then sit cafeteria-style at picnic tables to eat. As long as you know this going in (i.e. don’t expect table service) the ambience is fun. The staff were very friendly. Service was quick. There is a bar inside where you can grab a few beers to go with your meal, but you essentially have to do that separate from your food order.

Yummy Texas BBQ in a convenient downtown location. The brisket was so tender, though a little fatty. The sauce on the side was tangy and almost unnecessary because the brisket flavor was so good. I loved the slightly sweet coleslaw and the peach cobbler was awesome too!

I’m not going to waste anyone’s time trying to come up with new and clever. This place had the BEST BRISKET I HAVE EVER HAD! Go and try this place. You will not be disappointed!

This was our second time here after visiting the first time we were in Austin a couple years ago, and we weren't disappointed. Great BBQ here. The brisket and the sausage are both excellent, and the mac and cheese is delicious. We'll definitely go back if we're in Austin again.

After eating here we’ve been grilling more than used to and now all the time. However nothing ever compares. So amazing. Police were eating at many of the tables. The deli cases are heavenly.

I went with my husband the first day we arrived in Austin. We had dinner in Cooper’s, it was our first bbq experience and they were very friendly and patient explaining us how it worked. The rest of the days we visited other popular bbqs in different cities but when we returned to Austin our last day we wanted to finish the trip again in Cooper’s because of all the bbqs we tried, they offered the best price-quality and most importantly they did not treat you as a walking dollar bill but as a customer. By the end of our trip we didn't have much money left and the owner overheard us and gave us a t-shirt and sticker to take with us as souvenir. We were so grateful. All in all, great food, beautiful place and amazing customer service. I totally recommend it over other popular bbqs.

This place came highly recommended and doesn’t disappoint. They had plenty of beer on tap, and service was really quick. You start by choosing your meat. The brisket was hands-down the best I’ve ever had. The other best part of the meal was the pecan cobbler. I ordered green beans, but I’d skip them next time; pinto beans are free, and they were actually better tasting.

The best barbecue I came across in town for a week. Great meat, 12 beers on tap and very cool staff. Highly recommended, especially the beef ribs and the brisket.

We happened upon this restaurant while looking for a place for dinner. When we saw the line outside we knew this would be a good place. It was good, even more than good. We loved our excellently cooked brisket with delicious sauce. It was a fun and friendly atmosphere with long tables where other people sat and welcomed you to join them. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting great food and fun.

We went to Cooper's at the recommendation of someone at the Austin Visitor's Centre. Food was good; we had the chicken and spicy sausage link. The jalapeno mac & cheese was awesome. The meal wasn't cheap, but given the location that was understandable.

No flavor, burnt ends were very salty. Sides were not impressive at all. Texas should be ashamed of this BBQ. Meh. Never again.

I had an incredible experience at Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que! The food was absolutely delicious perfectly smoked meats with that authentic Texas flavor. The brisket was tender and juicy, and the ribs had just the right amount of smoky goodness. What made my visit even better was the outstanding service. Jim, the bartender, was fantastic! He was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. His drink recommendations were spot on, and he really added to the overall great atmosphere of the place. If you’re looking for amazing BBQ and top-notch service, Cooper’s is the place to go. I’ll definitely be back!

I planned an event here for my team while we were in Austin for a meeting. I want to commend this restaurant for how helpful they were, and thank them for accommodating us. My whole team loved the event and we had a great time. The food here is awesome. Like really, REALLY good. We all enjoyed trying the different meats and sides and everyone with me loved everything we ate. I would come back here again in a heartbeat next time I am in Austin!

The hotel we were staying at recommended this place for barbeque. This was sad. Dry, flavorless ribs. The macaroni and cheese too salty. The beans were too salty. I left feeling hungry. TGI Friday's makes better ribs and that is not saying much.

Average for sure and condescendingly Rude service tonight. The guy at 8:30p said there ‘wasn’t much left ‘ and was out to correct us from the start , we owned up to being out of towners and quite honestly the Brisket was dry and really tasted very average. After eating competitors BBQ today in Manachan , I won’t go back to Coopers again. What’s with the ‘watery baked beans ‘too ?

First time here. Went on Sat night. Line was about 150 people deep but moves relatively quick. Tried brisket (amazing), beef rib (excellent) and sausage (excellent). Corn bread was warm and tasty, if not a bit dry. Sat at the bar and the tenders were 10/10. Overall an excellent experience. One of my new favorites in Austin!

Best barbecue I have had in a while. Had the brisket and the turkey which melted in my mouth! Very friendly service. Cafeteria style. Great time. Very low key.

Cooper's BBQ is a must-visit for any barbecue enthusiast! We sampled the ribs, sausage, brisket, potato salad, cornbread, and grilled corn—and every bite was a delight. The meat was perfectly juicy and full of flavor, while the potato salad had a unique tang that set it apart from the usual fare. A special shoutout to Wade, the bartender, who was a terrific host and made our experience even better with his friendly and attentive service. Hats off to the team at Cooper's BBQ for delivering an outstanding meal. We can't wait to return to Austin and stop by again!

Had lunch here on first trip to Austin at the recommendation of a long-time bartender that knows the good and bad. Delish!! Had burnt ends, ribs, Mac and cheese, coleslaw and potato salad. Amazing and would highly recommend. Friendly and helpful staff. Great experience!

Our first night in Austin and we got a tip from folks we met on a tour. Fabulous place - order meat by the pound and supplement with your choice of sides. We both got the brisket and I added some beef ribs. Extremely casual joint - you get your dinner on a cafeteria tray, then sit down anywhere in this huge venue. We sat at the bar, which had a ton of draft choices. Shoveled down our delicious grub while watching the World Series - life doesn't get any better!

I was in Austin for a conference and really looking forward to finally getting to have some Texas BBQ in Texas as BBQ enthusiast who cooks a lot of low and slow BBQ and owns several types of smokers. Unfortunately, time didn't allow me to tour the other well know BBQ establishments of Austin. So instead we ended up here with a group of conference attendees. First off the restaurant atmosphere is fine and the bar service good. But getting straight into the BBQ, I have to say I was really underwhelmed. We were served up a group feed of what (even as an enthusiast I couldn't be entirely certain as it could have been prime rib) was brisket and pieces of smoked chicken. Sadly no ribs whatsoever were on offer in the buffet, namely beef but I would have loved to have seen how well they could do a St Louis rib in Austin. The sides were typically generic BBQ sides, nothing great. But I will say the while bread had a real foul odour to from I don't know what and was hard to stomach. All in all I hope I have a better and more impressive Texan BBQ experience next time I'm in Austin as I can say I've actually had BBQ that leaves Cooper's in the dust way down in Melbourne, Australia at a place I've been to many times now and reviewed here..

This was an interesting experience. Instead of ordering a meal everything is A La carte. You literally have to tell the cook how much of each meat you want. My buddy had no clue and ended up spending $50 on his meats. I had the brisket and it had a great taste, a little fatty though. Also had a piece of sausage which I’d call kielbasa. Cool environment with an outdoor patio. Beers were $6.50.

Wanted some Texas BBQ when visiting Austin and chose Cooper's because of it's location near our hotel. We ordered the chopped beef, brisket and sausage plus a couple sides. You order by the pound which I understand is common in these parts but found this a bit challenging when not use to this. Ended up with more food than we probably needed. However, everything was really tasty although not the mind blowing BBQ I was hoping to experience when compared to some of the places in KC that we have frequented. Definitely should give it a chance if you're nearby but I will try elsewhere next time when visiting Austin.

Happen to stumble along this neat BBQ stop on Congress in Austin. Atmosphere was fun and chill. Food was A1 amazing. Staff was friendly, prices were a little on the higher side but well worth it. Bar area was small but nice looking. Didn’t get a chance to taste the drinks.

A rustic, local bar/barbecue joint. The brisket and ribs were delicious -- flavorful and tender (we had $25 worth), while the sausage lacked flavor. In our experience we've found it remarkable for a BBQ place to get all three right. The sauce was vinegar based and not to our taste, but the brisket and ribs were so good that sauce was an after thought. For the most part we enjoyed the sides: green beans, pinto beans, and cole slaw; not so much the bland potato salad. At the bar, the beer selection was limited and the bar tender was preoccupied with his friends, and certainly not customer centered. Perhaps part of the place's character? Anyway, the barbecue was good enough to warrant a future visit.

This was my first BBQ in Texas so I can’t compare it to other places. But the service here was great, and the meat was very tender and delicious. My wife dislikes BBQ but really thought this place was good. Like many such places you enter and stand in line to pick the meats you want to eat that are behind glass. One server picks the selections you want and weighs them. You pay by the pound. The meats are wrapped and put on a tray for you and you then move cafeteria style on to the the sides and then checkout. There is a bar in the place. You have your choice of eating at picnic tables indoors or in an area outside in the back, the do ask you to maintain 6 feet distance when you select your seating area. Side portions were large so don’t over order. They use a vinegar based BBQ sauce here and it is the only sauce option. As sides go, we had the bacon/Jalapeño Mac and Cheese, pecan pie, slaw, and pinto beans they offer free (bread is free too). Everything was good.

All the staff were friendly and helpful explaining how to order (point at the meat you want and tell/gesture how much you want). The meats aren’t labeled so I didn’t want to hold up the line and pointed at what the people in front of me had enthusiastically ordered. There’s a nice spot through the back doors to sit in the Austin sunshine. I couldn’t help from digging into the amazing pecan pie while simultaneously eyeing the Mac and cheese that sat next to it. The meat of the bbq itself was very tender though a bit fatty at parts, but the rub that was on the skin was overpoweringly salty. It made my stomach upset though I really wanted to like it. Next time I’ll try another cut and sauce just to give everything a fair shake, but as far as my first visit I’d say everything was decent.

Come early as line out the door down the sidewalk. Good vibe. Not the best BBQ I’ve had, but obviously some think so.

The food here was ok but nothing special. We had brisket and turkey, along with sides of mac & cheese and potato salad. You sit at long tables and depending on how busy the restaurant is, there may be others at the table besides you and your friends/family. Prices somewhat high. Not especially recommended, basically because food is average.

Whether you get a seat at the bar or at the picnic-style tables, you get in line to order your meat from the guy cooking it near the entrance, then pick sides and desserts cafeteria-style while making your way to pay. I got a beef rib straight out of “The Flintstones” to go with mac and cheese, peach and apple cobbler, and free pinto beans and jalapenos! The only reason this gets a 4 is because of the self-serve BBQ sauce station — the pot is listed as “hot”, but I didn’t realize until an accidental spill that it’s hot enough to cause a minor skin burn…I don’t know about letting customers do that haha

...locations in Llano & New Braunfels in years past, with good meals, I had high hopes. Unfortunately, this dinner visit was blah. Our brisket and sirloin (a regrettable choice) were not very tender, and leaned on the dry side. Perhaps they were more tender and juicy at lunch-time? FYI to the pit employees - sirloin needs to be sliced thin, not 1/2 inch. Our sides of mac 'n cheese and potato salad were bland. Yellow mustard helped the potato salad somewhat. The complimentary beans were good. Overall, a very disappointing and regrettable choice.

Best BBQ turkey in Austin. I love turkey and have tried it at most (if not all) the BBQ places in town. This is hands down my favorite. The pork chops and pork ribs are also to die for. We occasionally order their beef rib or brisket and have also enjoyed them. The sides are all delicious; we especially like the grilled corn. They also provide you with free beans and bread. Anytime we have family come in from out of town, we bring them here. The only bad thing about coming out here is the parking. Finding street parking is challenging. Fortunately, there’s a little paid parking lot caddy corner from them. I can’t remember the cost, but I think it was $5-8/hour.

I am appalled. I have eaten here over the past 5 years several times when traveling through the area for business. It’s probably been a year since I last came. Tonight I walked up and ordered “a small slice of brisket.” They weighed it, THEN supposedly trimmed the fat off and handed it to me. I thought well I guess the fat gets charged for too. When I looked down at the wrapped it said $13.72. I was stunned. I said to the lady behind the counter - wait this can’t be right…I only had a tiny piece of meat. She took it from me, said something to the manager and they slapped a new sticker on it for $12.72. I quietly went to the counter and didn’t even as much as order a water; paid and sat down figuring maybe this is what brisket should cost (?). But then looked at the price per pound ($26.49!!!!!). Ok that’s bad enough but WORST OF ALL - I was able to get MAYBE 2 bites of meat out of my slice. IT. WAS. PURE. FAT. Now listen, I know brisket is fatty. That’s why it’s tender. And that’s why I ordered it. But this was a 98% piece of solid fat. Totally ridiculous. If you are person that sticks to a tight budget (like me) or has a family that you bring it…you better order NOTHING until you ring up your meats (no Mac n cheese, drinks, dessert, etc). The couple in front of me had ribs and brisket and for these 2 small young people the meat alone was almost $50 for what THEY ordered. Don’t be fooled by the casual, rustic atmosphere. You could eat at Ruth Chris steak house for these prices or just about anywhere. Cooper’s come on. You guys can do better than that!!!!

My expectations may have been set too high but the brisket was 50% fat and the pork loin was tough. The sauce was watery vinegar based. Overpriced for eating off of a piece of paper on a plastic tray. I hope this wasn't a true representation of Texas barbecue.

Had the best smoked brisket here. Absolutely perfect. Also enjoyed the green beans and baked potato. It’s the perfect atmosphere for BBQ! Don’t pass by this place!

Very good BBQ and definitely would recommend. It is set up like a cafeteria line to order. The food was amazing and I highly recommend if in the area

This is my first time in Austin and was referred by our tour guide. I'm glad me and my granddaughter tried it, we were not disappointed, and she enjoyed the ribs.

Can’t beat the barbecue at this location for a large group. You order at the counter and go from there, quite the setup. Location is quite large and the food was very good.

Entered a few minutes after opening on a Friday and there were just a few people already in there. Service was no nonsense style, but not miserable. Food was excellent, would return if back in Austin

We stopped in here for lunch and walked right in. We ordered the pork loin, the pork ribs and the brisket, and for sides we got the mac and cheese, green beans and potato salad with black berry cobbler for dessert. We liked the vinegar based sauce on the meat and liked everything we ordered. The sides were delicious - we finished every single one clean. And even though we were full by the time we got to the cobbler we finished it as well because it was delicious!

Everyone said to get barbecue in Austin. Well this is the place to get it! We were the first people in when they opened the doors and the server was friendly and funny! And the food was outstanding!

Stumbled upon this almost home in the wall unimpressive looking place from the outside, so glad we went in! Very casual bench style seating downstairs and absolutely amazing food. The brisket is so tender and tasty, pork ribs a close second. Reasonably priced - $23 for 2 and we could not finish it. Will definitely go back if we are in the area again

Best BBQ we ate on the trip. Far superior to Terry Black's BBQ. Conveniently located in Downtown near the JW Marriott, within walking distance from Four Seasons and other major hotels. Tender meats, well seasoned inside and outside, not too salty. Corn bread is a must get side. Husband said, "Cole slaw was fantastic." Walk in and get to the counter along the wall, pick your meat, then walk along the cabinets to pick out bottle drinks and salads. Then you hit the hot sides. Get the corn bread! Proceed to check out. After checkout, there's a free condiment station for all you can get: - House made BBQ sauce, wee bit on the acidic vinegar side - house made pork beans - onions - pickle slices - real silverware & wet naps (you get cheap plastics at Terry Blacks that can't cut anything) You can bring your canteen tray of meat to sit at the bar. Be sure to say hi and chat with Jim (bartender). Super nice and you can make a friend or meet a fellow traveler sitting at the bar top. The staff have all been here and worked together a long time. You hear stories of them painting the walls, putting together the chairs you sit in, and see their family and kids photos on the way. Plenty of group tables and benches around. I cannot recommend enough to come here for Texan BBQ, Austin hospitality, and a great memorable experience. While we were here, the Health Inspector rated them A. Very clean in dining area and clean kitchen. Tour upstairs to see the reclaimed wood used from the old Flamingo dance hall nailed to the ceiling. Huge tents in the outdoor back patio. The venue is massive.

Great bbq and sides. Everything is al a carte. We tied the chopped beef bbq and the brisket. Loved the atmosphere and complimentary pickle and bean bar. Can’t wait to go back then next time we visit Austin.

This place was busy at lunchtime! For tourists not used to the fast-paced service it can be daunting and I would suggest you know what you feel like eating once you stand in the line. They rely on you choosing immediately. If you are on a budget, this place is not for you, as it ended up way more expensive than we expected because we chose more food and sides than intended! I found the food was good, the brisket was delicious, but was dampened by the price and the people behind the counter were not that friendly.

Portions are big. We shared the chicken , it was moist and flavorful. Awesome customer service, cold beers and selection of condiments. Bbq sauce a little different than I prefer.

Austin, Texas is known for fabulous barbecue, and Cooper's did not disappoint. Wonderful barbecue and sides, nice assortment of beers, and excellent desserts.

We had a couple of meals here, and also at other BBQ establishments in the area. We found them all to be similar in flavor and texture. At Coopers it's more of cafeteria style, as you choose the type and quantity of meats then continue along choosing prepared sides. We had the pork ribs and brisket, both of which were good but not as tender and juicy as we're used to getting in the northern part of the country. We would surely return here again but it's not the knock-your-socks-off BBQ I thought we'd experience visiting Texas for the first time. The decor in the place was very cool....there's a few rooms to explore, plus an upstairs level, which are worth checking out.

We experienced no wait time. We visited on a Wednesday at about 5pm. Variety of barbecue meats; flavorful. Sides were tasty also. Banana pudding - amazing. Compared to another popular BBQ establishment we visited a few days ago, I liked Cooper’s better.

This is a casual BBQ joint where you order at the counter, selecting your meat laid out on the grill in front of you. The grill master recommended the championship brisket, which was delicious. Everything else on the grill looked good too. After selecting your meat, you pick your sides and desserts, then go find a table. There was plenty of seating. The food was excellent and everyone was very friendly,

We were recommended this restaurant as a place to sample Texan BBQ . The meat and side salads of coleslaw and potato salad were very good. However I really hate the American way of no plates and eating off paper. There was proper cutlery but so much plastic. They must stop using disposable cups and containers.

We found Cooper's in downtown Austin after trying a couple of the better known BBQ spots but found long lines. Apparently, long lines for BBQ are common in Austin but we didn't have the time (or desire) for that. Cooper's turned out to be a great alternative. They had a few people in line and we got our meat order very quickly. We skipped sides and just stuck with the complimentary pot of beans. Our meat was very good. I had a beef rib that was tender and juicy. My wife enjoyed her brisket. Coincidentally, we took a food tour the next day and they brought us back for more brisket. We recommend Cooper's

We stopped there for a late dinner. Everything looked really good, and the guy handling the pit was super friendly. We ordered some brisket, sausage and ribs, added some coleslaw and mac&cheese. Of course, we had some of the complementary pinto beans. We cannot say which one is better--we devoured everything, and we would easily order again each item. Really good. And great atmosphere.

We visited several BBQ spots on our visit to Austin. This was by far the most disappointing. Brisket and steak cuts were so salty we did not finish them. Also had the link, ribs, and turkey. The thin, vinegar sauce…not a fan. The brisket was very fatty, and quite expensive to pay for a lot of fat. Turkey was the least salty and the most solid choice. Would not recommend if you are looking for tasty smoked meats and nice thick bbq sauce to compliment, nothing like that here.

Wholesome food, relaxed atmosphere Appreciated the staff explaining the cuts of meat so we could make informed choice Hearty portions Mac cheese is yummy Help yourself to pickles at the table

Good food served buffet style then you choose a seat at picnic tables. I had the brisket, grilled corn, slaw and blackberry cobber. all were quite tasty!

we were there for dinner. This place is really special, you have a lot of BBG meat. All is delicious ! Guys/crews very friendly. The food is delicious, you have a very good bartender as well. Draft beers. cocktails..... We recommend +++++the better bbq place in Austin

Came here on a Friday for lunch. Wasn't too busy and got served quickly. From the outset service was pretty average. No care or consideration. I ask for a quarter pound of brisket and got nearly half a pound served and asked for two ribs and they gave me two of the largest ribs they had. I was pretty shocked when they tallied this up but figured there was little I could do at this stage. I also ordered boiled corn and mac and cheese and they charged me for the corn twice. All up a solo lunch cost me $50. I felt totally ripped off but if the BBQ was good maybe it would be worth it. The BBQ was not good. The brisket was dry and utterly tasteless. The ribs were even dryer still and totally flavourless, full of gristle and virtually inedible. I was totally disappointed in this experience and the staff clearly don't care about the customer experience. In a city that claims to have some of the best BBQ in Texas this aint one of them.

Average, if not subpar, barbecue. I recognize it’s Covid and things may not always be this way, but honestly couldn’t even finish just a 1/4 pound of brisket due to quality of meat and flavor. Same with the pork ribs. Service was average. Don’t know how this place has such highly rated reviews. For the price there are a lot better options just minutes away. Bottom line: wouldn’t eat here again.

Visited here for the first time. Barbecue was awesome. They catered yo my food allergies without an issue so i got select sides. The other people i was with enjoyed the sides i couldn’t eat. It was a great variety of meat, all excellent.

Very good BBQ overall. The smoked sirloin , potato salad, and pecan pie were excellent and worth every penny. The pork ribs were very good and the free beans are good. The chopped beef was disappointing. Less flavor than expected.

Didn’t make it past the rude bartender who was clearly more interested in chatting with friends than doing his job. To make matters worse, Skip the house margarita. At almost $8, it was 5 sips of sugary mixer in a small whiskey glass full of ice. No thanks, we’ll spend elsewhere.

Maybe it was an off night. First time in Austin, but not my first time having Texas BBQ and this was quite the disappointment. We were looking for "authentic" and came here because of the reviews, but I think this place gets a lot of attention because of their location and frequented by a lot of tourists who don't know what really good Texas BBQ tastes like. I read a lot of reviews and so many seem to be from people who were here visiting. It's located in the heart of downtown Austin and you can smell the BBQ aroma from a few blocks away. We did arrive later in the evening and they did have a limited menu - this is common amongst a good BBQ restaurant. They cook only so much per day so when it's gone... it's gone. They only had Brisket and Sirloin so we got a pound of each. As for sides, we got the potato salad and some of their pinto beans (they were out of everything else). The short of it, the sirloin might as well have been beef jerky. It was so dried out and well done, we each ate a slice and left the rest. Just a dried out piece of meat. The brisket was definitely good but I've certainly had better. The BBQ sauce... very disappointing. It has a consistency just slightly thicker than water and it's quite plain. No tanginess or spiciness to it. It's really very bland. The potato salad was okay but it's pretty had to serve bad potato salad. Later they did have some mac-n-cheese which we had and it was quite good. And lastly, we had Pecan cobbler and it was much like the sirloin. Way too overcooked and no sweetness to it. Again, had a couple of bites and left the rest. We are fully aware this was the first day open after the major storm that shut all businesses for days, however, if you are going to be open... the food should be just as good as any other day. We did come late in the day, but that too is no excuse for poor quality. Maybe the food is better earlier in the day, but I've been to other BBQ restaurants close to when they were about to run out but the food was still fantastic. Cooper's is a nice place and I have no doubts caters to a mostly tourist business base. If you have the opportunity, get out of downtown Austin and you'll find much better BBQ.

A fun vibe but the food was a bit disappointing, especially at the price point. I had the pork ribs and they were very very dry, even after being dipped in bbq sauce. The cornbread and nana pudding were good but nothing to write home about. Friendly service and staff.

It was close to my hotel and looked good so gave it a try. I have had ton’s of TX BBQ over the years. This is not the best but the brisket and beef ribs were top 3 I have ever had. The beef ribs were perfect size and smoked to perfection. The brisket was just as delicious and melts in your mouth. Was a little disappointed in the quality of the sides we got but I was there for the BBQ and a beer or two.

The food was nothing special, I'm sure there is better BBQ in Austin. We had a group dinner and the staff were rude and unhelpful

The brisket was tough and dry. The beef rib was tough as well, and no flavor. mac n chz was dry. The sauce looked liked orange water. my soft drink was cold! lol there are better options out there.

I am a picky foodie but have to say i was pleasantly surprised by Cooper BBQ. Meat was cooked perfectly! Had the pork ribs and brisket. Sides were good but didnt stand out like the meat. Greenbeans could use more seasoning or maybe some bacon grease. I would highly recommend just for the meat. Cafeteria style which works well for the rush times.

We were looking for good BBQ and tried our luck with this place. Let me tell you, I am SO glad we went here! We shared the brisket with BBQ sauce, mac and cheese, and cornbread. Everything was delicious! The brisket was perfectly cooked, you didn't have to use a knife to cut it, and it melted in your mouth! The cornbread was the perfect flavor, and they give you a lot of yummy mac and cheese! They are also very reasonably priced.

My husband and I were on a weekend getaway and fortunately for us Coopers was right around the corner from where we were staying. We stopped there for lunch our first day and it did not disappoint. We had the brisket and beef ribs and both were excellent. We enjoyed it so much we ended going back there our last day before we left. We got pork sausage (also excellent) and pork ribs, which were good but not as good as the beef ribs. Loved the bar atmosphere.

I have eaten a lot of BBQ across this nation and this is right at the top. Great flavors. I tried the turkey, the sausage and some ribs and was pleased with all of it. The sides were also very good. This is worth trying.

I would highly recommend a visit to Coopers. Our tour guide recommended and it was close to our hotel. Dinner is family style and meat is sold by the pound but not limiting. You all walk through a line like a cafeteria, so it was quick. Everyone could choose what they wanted even though we were “sharing.” The meat was exceptional and well seasoned. They have traditional sides that were delicious. There were several dessert options but we didn’t partake because the dinner was enough. It is a pricier restaurant but we found most of Austin was on the higher side. Your meat choices also contribute to that, so you can control the cost. I felt it was money well spent. It was a family consensus that Coopers was/is a great choice for dinner.

I just went here for the second time in a few years. The first time I went it was much much better. The brisket this time was burnt. The outside part was not edible. The sausage was very good and so were the sides. That is the only reason I gave it a 3 instead of 1. Sometimes a place can be off (maybe backup cook). This place is far from my favorite but is located attached to the jw Marriott so its very convenient.

We grabbed an early dinner at Cooper’s BBQ in downtown Austin. It was recommended by a friend from the area. The meat is sold by the pound. We ordered a variety of smoked meats: pork ribs, brisket, chopped beef and sausage. We also added sides of potato salad, coleslaw and blackberry cobbler. They provide free all you can eat beans with the meal. Everything was outstanding! The meat was tender and flavorful. The standout meat was the pork ribs. That seems to be their specialty. It was a great stop with great food. I’d highly recommend Copper’s!

Cruising into Austin, the Fat Man and his wife wanted some real-deal Texas BBQ. So, we headed over to Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que. Cooper’s is a classic BBQ joint with picnic table seats serving brisket, ribs & more pulled straight from the pit. We tried the Beef Ribs to start. They were tender and had good bark and flavor. They were dense, but the sauce they were dunked in coated them better than any other option we tried. Next up was none other than the Texas Brisket. The meat was tender, juicy, and fatty in a good way with great flavor—some of the best brisket I have ever had. The BBQ sauce was very thin but flavorful, with a little sweet and then a tomato vinegar hit. You have the option of dry or wet when ordering. We got wet on everything. I wanted to try the Sausage. It had a good snap on the casing with a great chew in the meat. The heat builds over time from the spices in the sausage mixture. We also tried several sides with our meal. The noodles in the Mac and cheese were cooked perfectly, creamy, cheesy, and ooey gooey. The cheese sauce was flavorful, with just a little pepper and a good salt level. The Potato salad was mashed, not cubed, with a heavy mustard kick, and the red peppers gave it some texture. Their green beans were tender with some heat on the back end. They were cooked with bacon but could still use salt. The cornbread was moist and fluffy but a little dense. It did have a great sweetness and good texture. Cooper’s is a counter service where you order everything offered from the pit and select your hot or cold sides. They offer several different types of meats, cuts, and amounts. They also serve beer and alcohol. The servers were nice, but it can be overwhelming because of how fast the ordering happens. The Fat Man says that Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que is Fat Man Approved with 3 chins.

Great food, bbq typical from Texas, really enjoy the vibe. You ask meet by pound, it seams a bit ruff but it works. If I return to Austin, I will go there again

We had a long day and night drinking on 6th on a weekday and needed some food. Coopers was open late and a short walk away and had great reviews so we decided to check it out. There was a long line even at 10pm. There is a big gril/smoker and you point out what you want and they cut off pieces for you right there. Your plate gets heavy very quickly (as your wallet gets light quickly too). You take your food over to communal tables and can serve yourself some pickles, bread and sauce. The sauce was a bit too vinegar and watery and the ribs were too salty. The sausage was too fatty, The sides were pretty great esp the cold slaw. They serve beer, which hit the spot.

My group of 6 friends came to eat here and it was delicious! We got there around 6:30 and were able to get our food and table easily. When we left the line was out the door. I had the beef brisket and it was the best I have eaten. I also had the jalapeño cheddar sausage and that was also tasty. My friends had turkey and ribs and said they too were delicious. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant.

This place is in a super convenient location and it’s good enough if you want pretty authentic BBQ but you’re pressed for time. There can be a long line but it moves fast and you can order drinks at the bar while waiting. I loved that we could pick and choose how much of each type of meat we wanted so we could try more of a variety. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was amazing but very spicy (especially compared to the one I had at Terry Blacks BBQ) They have some amazing local craft beers on tap as well. Also, the FREE pinto beans are AMAZING! So much flavor and what’s not to love about the price?!

I stopped by while staying at the JW Marriott for a convention. Went twice. Meat was great. I found the brisket to be juicy and tasty. Some found it expensive but coming form NYC I have to laugh and compared to the $80 steaks at Deans next door this was a bargain. I had 1/4 pound of brisket and a side of string beans for lunch for $12 and they give you complementary bread and pinto beans so you really can do well. There are more expensive cuts of meat but even $40 or so for rib eye by the pound is cheap compared to what you will find in a steak house.

Had a few people recommend Coopers so thought we better check it out. What a cool place, mix of bar and cantina, the boys behind the bar very friendly and helpful, the food from the BBQ pit was awesome, the brisket just melted and the mac cheese with bacon & jalapeños was a great side dish. Big tables so you get to chat to your neighbours, well located near 6th. Great prices too.

The brisket here is tender and delicious. You order that first as you walk in, then go down the line to choose the sides. I would not recommend the Mac and cheese. There are beans and bread available near the drink station. The room we ate in had long picnic tables to sit at. There were large jars of jalapeños on the table to eat as well. If I’m in Austin again, I’ll definitely be back.

Meats were amazing- got brisket and beef ribs, both excellent! Sides are lacking. Potato salad was literally cold mashed potatoes with sweet stuff added. Not what I would call potato salad. Mac and cheese was overcooked mushy noodles with probably velveeta. Maybe that’s the norm here, I’m not from Texas. Pecan pie cobbler was out of this world! I pride myself on my pecan pie but it doesn’t even hold a candle to the delicious creation called pecan cobbler! Staff is friendly and beer is cold, can’t ask for much more!

Cooper’s has a lot going for it. It is inside a really cool building and many visitors come to Texas for some bbq. Of the meat offerings Cooper’s delivered. My rib was cooked just right teaming with flavor. Same with the brisket which had a nice smokiness without being too overwhelming. Both meats were very tender. I was disappointed with the sides. Of course you could ask who goes to a Texas bbq joint for the sides - and you would have a point.

This place was very good. The brisket especially was excellent. The sides are pretty good too. There is a fine selection of local beers to was the good food down with. Ladies room could use some cleaning.

Visited with a buddy and his 2 teenage boys who are always hungry. We pretty much tried a pound or 2 of everything and it was all outstanding. Staff was very helpful with details about the food. Great sides also. The dining area is very casual as typical of a barbecue joint but that is part of the ambience. Highly recommended.

Coopers is TERRIBLE...! Super high pricing and devious the way they charge you...! Service was abysmal and out of a regular beer that we ordered. Food was also not very good and certainly NOT worth the money...at ALL...! We highly suggest Pinkerton's in San Antonio. Better in every way.

The brisket and pork rib was pretty good but chicken was a little dry. I was underwhelmed by the BBQ sauce. As noted in other reviews, it was kind of a watery and vinegary tasting reddish liquid. Definitely too thin and not what I expected in a BBQ sauce whether you like it sweet or hot. The staff was friendly and helpful. It might be a good bar hangout.

Very good bbq, must when in Austin, good brisket and sausage, they had run out of ribs so can’t comment. Not cheap though.

You have to wait in line, get to the place where you can choose the meat (it's great that they give you the cut you want), they weigh it (to get paid), you choose accompaniment and drinks and you pay. You eat at common tables and alcohol is served separately at the bar counter. The rich, juicy meat and great Texan atmosphere, obviously there is no table service and you serve everything yourself, but very original and delicious. Well located.

We were in Austin for 4 days and ate here 3 times. It is amazing! Everything we had was delicious from the brisket to the sausage and the real standout for us was the beef ribs. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. I know Texas has a lot of BBQ places and this one is tops.

Simple barbecue, rustic picnic table setting. The ribs were not as meaty as I would have expected, especially at the price charged. More fat than meat. Side options could be better. It's popular at times so you may have to wait for a table. There is a bar area so you can get beer and wine. There are better barbecue options nearby.

There are many different Texas BBQ places in Austin and, fortunately, they carry a unique flavor. What sets this one apart is the people. The people that work here are exceptionally pleasant and want to make the customer happy. I had the chop beef and beer from Houston that I've never had before. They mixed perfectly. The beef was great and the sauce was fantastic. Don't forget the bacon jalapeno Mac and cheese! The location is perfect. I recommend this for any stop downtown.

This restaurant is very centrally located in downtown Austin. Rather inconspicuous from the outside, it makes you curious after entering. A drinks counter makes you thirsty and the smell of grilled beef hangs heavy and hungry in the air. The concept of this place is a bit peculiar, but is explained in a friendly way and is fun, even if you usually like to sit at a table and be served. Here, however, grilling is permanent and you choose something from the various finished pieces and pay later depending on the weight. The selected food is served on a piece of paper and you take it with you on a tray, supplement it with appetizers and sauces, pay and find a place in the restaurant. Unfortunately, because of the drinks you also have to go to the counter, queue there, pay and then back to the table. It's a little awkward, but acceptable. The pieces of meat, of any kind, are all first-class grilled and taste delicious. The decor is very rustic and just has to meet the taste. The procedure itself is simple, but not for everyone. It still feels like a quick restaurant and whether you can rate the service with 5 points is rather questionable with a self-service. But eating beef or pork ribs once there can only be recommended.

Awesome the 1st Time - Horrible the 2nd. Loved this place the 1st time but the 2nd visit has be not going back. We arrived about 30 minutes before closing and the pit master gave me a cut of brisket that was 80% pure fat. I humbly asked him to trim off some fat and he got smart with me and told me that’s the way it was going to be. I took the order because I didn’t want to be confrontational with business associates. After seating down I realized the brisket was totally uneatable. Wow, now I regret that I recommended the place. The free beans are nice, though. I’ll definitely go by to Coopers in Llano. Adios

Visited here for dinner and it was amazing! The meat was super tender and melt in your mouth. Can definitely recommend the brisket and the pork rib. The beef rib was still decent but at times felt a little dry in comparison to the other two meats. Plenty of well priced side options although it still came out pretty pricey at $70 for two plus $13 for two ciders. Easy to spend your money in here but the meat is really worth it in our opinion. The place got rather packed as we were leaving with a queue about 20+ deep out of the door. Definitely arrive early unless you want to be waiting.

Having been a long-time fan of Cooper’s in Llano we were looking forward to trying their Austin location. The interior is nicely decorated with typical country/BBQ touches. At 12:15 pm on a weekday we only stood in line about 10 minutes. I asked for brisket and jalapeño/cheese sausage. We got a side of potato salad and a green salad. The sausage and potato sausage were really nice, but not so much the brisket. It was an end piece, was overdone, and too salty. The green salad was nothing special. The Malbec we drank was quite good. The staff were all friendly. We will probably not go back because we have never had a bad experience at Terry Black’s BBQ nearby on Barton Springs Rd and will go there when we want BBQ (though parking there is a nightmare).

Family style ordering worked great for a group of 5 traveling on business. Lots options for side dishes. I was the awkward vegan in the group so I nibbled on some of the side dishes that were great. Loved the atmosphere. Nice folks!

Probably one of the best BBQ places I have been to. Just off a side street from the famous 6th Street. Very basic decor and plates cutlery etc are paper/plastic. You line up and pick your meat/ribs/chicken etc. they weigh it and cost is on weight. Then you take it to another section where you can pick your sides etc and pay. It was delicious. Highly recommend

Outstanding BBQ, we had brisket with coleslaw, banana pudding. You walk right up to the bbq grille and pick your meat there with a man who cuts it off the grill - unique! Sides are premade in cups with lids. The atmosphere is ole school bbq, rugged with wood, huge wooden bar. Bartender was nice & talked liquors with my husband. Upstairs was an empty extra bar - is very cool also, beautiful photos etc Loved the experience - would come back

We were visiting in Austin and walked here for dinner. When you go in they have a huge display of smoked meats. If you want to pick one kind: brisket, pork, ribs, sausage and different cuts. You could pick one or all of them. Priced by the pound. We had brisket and ribs, then picked out sides (all ala- carte) so it cost about $40 with a bottle of water. A little challenging finding a place to sit. We were there on trivia night and ended up right next to the game stage. Overall the food was excellent. Meat well cooked and seasoned. Best cole slaw!

I visited Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-b-Que on a recent road trip to Austin. Everyone in Texas knows Austin is the home of old and new barbeque joints, and this time I wanted to eat at the legendary Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-b-Que. I ordered pork spare ribs, green beans and a side of free pinto beans. The ribs were tender and well-seasoned. My only complaints were that the green beans were cooked in too much oil and the barbeque sauce was bland. The ribs were the most memorable of the meal. Cooper's was on my bucket list of barbeque restaurants while I have eaten at several others in the area.

Super original barbecue. You order which meat you want, get it cut on a tray and go on and order accessories. Very delicious meat and ribs. It's simple and you sit on benches, but it works.

First time visit, and we were not disappointed! Lots of great choices of delicious meats! Have all the white bread, pickles and pinto beans that you like!

I asked several locals to tee up some Austin bbq spots and this one came up. Pics online looked good, so we decided to try it. We got several things and just pigged out. Beef ribs, pork ribs, sausage, a smoked ribeye and of course, brisket. It was all good! The beef ribs and the brisket won for best overall. I will say there is a very ‘salt-forward’ flavor to the meat. It was a tad too much for me, but it was still really good! We also had sides: jalapeño/bacon Mac and cheese, coleslaw and cornbread. The Mac and cheese for the win! Very cheesy and delicious. Overall, this is a quality bbq spot worthy of a return!

OMG BEST BBQ I’ve ever had!! They are not kidding when they say it’s “all about the meat”!! It’s very hard to make a choice with so many delish options. It’s ale carte style, you pick your meat (any size) pay by the lb. Sides were amazing - jalapeño mac n cheese, pinto beans, and the cobblers OMG! Love the vibe here!! Friendly, clean, welcoming….they haven’t forgot a thing here!

It's hard not to want to try everything. We went three nights in a row. My favorite, by far, was the lean brisket. The pork tenderloin was pretty good, but the turkey wasn't great. I loved the green beans and also the pinto beans that you ladled yourself. A little of the pecan cobbler, although delicious, went a long way. I'm so glad that I don't live near this place because I would be huge! All of the staff were great, especially the guy cutting the meat. Do yourself a favor and go!

Some of the best BBQ I've ever had. And the variety of meats are unbeatable. We had beef rib, brisket, sausage, and it was all fantastic. Great atmosphere and the pecan cobbler was to die for.

Amazing BBQ. THE BEST RIB I've had in my LIFE. Great corn, great brisket, great pie, and great ambience. My only complaint is that the turkey was a little bit dry -- the sauce they offered was not great. The free bread and beans though was a very nice touch.

We've been going to Coopers in Llano for years, we are so glad that there is now a location in Austin! It was just as phenomenal as the original location. Fall off your fork brisket, delicious sausage, and the cobbler!!!

Highly recommended to us by Austin locals and we know why! Waited in a line and then ordered and served on paper, off to the side station for the next step. Bench seating. Well worth a reasonable wait given quality. Don't resist the brisket or chicken.

Great BBQ place with a queuing system, so that when you get to the counter you order what you want by weight, which you can see infront of you. You then go to the "sides" counter, grab your cuttlery and eat! We had the brisket, sausage, ribs and sides of mac n chees plus coulslaw. Delicious.

Outrageously expensive. My husband and I visited when we walked down congress and felt we were completely taken advantage of as tourists. I understand good meat is expensive but they gave us $130 worth for the 2 of us which was mediocre at best. Total tourist trap - avoid!!!!

Coming to Texas, we knew we had to try out some good old Texas BBQ and Coopers did not disappoint. Hands down the best BBQ I have ever had. The brisket and ribs were amazing.

The brisket was fork tender and flavorful. The sides, especially the Mac and cheese and baked beans were good. Service was quick at the bar.

Casual dining with great atmosphere. Friendly service. Food is good. Recommend if you like meats.

Great atmosphere, outstanding barbecue, and the staff was great!I was looking for real Texas barbecue and found this place delivered .

Dropped in for dinner with a few colleagues and we had a great experience. Very friendly staff here, and excellent BBQ all around. The sides are not as strong as others, but overall a quality BBQ experience. The bartender was especially great to deal with.

We walked here after a tour of the Moody Theater. It’s clean, deliciosos and the staff was really helpful. You pick your meat first and they slice and weigh it right there so you pay by the pound. What a great idea. I got a small amount of two different meats - then you go through and they have all the sides, and fixin’s too.

Great place to stop in and get out of the rain. The brisket and chicken were very tasty and the Lone Star Beer washed them all down very well. There is restaurant is what you would expect in a BBQ place, which I dig. I would have liked to try a few other items on the menu, but was full pretty fast. A future visit will be in order.

We tried several meats. The holy grail of BBQ - Brisket was disappointing. Even though we got the fatty version it was really overcooked. Beef ribs however were excellent along with the sausage. Try the jalapeño mac and cheese. Beans, pickles and sauce are all on the free bar.

You buy meat by the pound! We got about 3/4 lb of brisket and a 1/2 chicken. Chicken was ok but would never get it again. The brisket may have been the best I have ever had. Melted in my mouth. The mac & cheese was creamy delicious. There is a fixing bar with bread, pickles, onions, BBQ sauce, and pinto beans. The beans were also great. Walked out stuffed. 2 people for a total of $36!
