Adorable litte break from reality

I love St. Tropez! I've been here several times in the last few months and I haven't had a single bad experience. It's located in a strip mall in the UTC neighborhood. Some say the parking can be a bit tight, but I've never had a problem (and I have an SUV). It's a popular spot for weekend brunch as well. I've never been there in the evening, though I would like to. I believe the hours are 7am - 7pm. It's a casual place with both indoor and outdoor seating. Not a ton of tables, but you don't feel as though you're sitting on top of anyone either. I find it to be a charming ambiance, you could go with friends, family, a date, or with your kids easily. My review is based on the brunch/lunch experiences I've had there. First off, their coffee is good. But more importantly- they have bottomless mimosas for $7 and they aren't the terrible variety you normally get, especially when they're bottomless. Mmm so good! Their pastries always look delicious, but I'm always too full to have any dessert. They have absolutely fantastic crepe dishes (sweet or savory) and your standard breakfast fares with a bit of flair. The fresh toast is delicious, and I've had a crepe filled with ham and eggs that was exactly what I wanted. Last time I had a panini that was one of the best paninis I've ever had. You never feel rushed to get out of there and no one pressures you to get up so they can turn over the table. Great, friendly service! It's such a relaxing experience.

Wow, you could be in the south of France- almost

This restaurant is a gem. Three at our table order beef Bourguinon. I ask how long has it been cooking and when we’re told 6 hours,I know it will be good. I’ve cooked this stew and it takes hours to come to perfection. Even Julia Child would approve. The dish arrives with bits of carrots, mushrooms, celery and onions served on the creamiest delicious mashed. One of the party even finds a few of the lardons, used in the initial steps of creating a great meal. We order a wonderful red wine, beautifully chosen by the owner,Chris. It complements perfectly the meat. The other at our table has steak frites and is happy. Best yet is the desert of an apple tartine and the patissier is sitting at the bar. It is an amazing finish to the meal with carmelised apples, whipped cream. It’s heavenly. Move over FrenchGourmet, once the patrons in Renaissance discover this wonderful chic cafe, there will be long waiting lists. Good luck Chris.Opening a restaurant at the beginning of the pandemic was bad timing. You deserve a break because your food is sublime. One comment: I would have appreciated your servers being masked even though we were sitting outdoors.

"Cocotte Bistro" is the new name for this nice place

By Salu |

The new name is Cocotte Bistro, previously St Tropez in this location as I was told. So nice to find such quiet gem for a late breakfast. Excellent coffee and though I only ordered a light pastry, others in my group ordered: the quiche, the crepes with ratatouille, and an omelette dish, all, I was told, were very good. Another time we tried their pastries, the Tarte Tatin was delicious and so was their Neapolitan Millefeuille. Also to add service was very good and our waitress was very nice.

Excellent place for Breakfast

We had a very pleasant breakfast in the sunshine on the Patio area. The service was good and the Eggs benedict were great. It was a very pleasant experience in the tucked away strip mall.

Disappointing

Cannot believe this place had a 4.7 star rating. Not very friendly service and overpriced omelettes with hardly anything inside.

Excellent food, convenient location

By AnnaPi0314 |

I love this little place. It has great french inspired food (which seems popular with European ex-pats) , wifi, and very nice staff. I've come here on many an afternoon with my laptop to work and have lunch. They are always accommodating. The only problem is the location -- conveniently located near UTC but the parking lot gets busy at lunch time. Come before 11am or after 1pm for easy parking.

New Name Cocotte Bistro - Extremely Good Food

By Dave B |

This was our first visit to this Bistro. It was late morning and I still wanted a breakfast meal - was not sure who was still serving that type of meal at that time. My wife and granddaughter(who is leaning French) wanted to treat her to an French meal - so this close by. The food was very good, I had the French Toast ( with another word I cannot remember or say) but it was very good and just enough. My wife had eggs benedict which was very good and looked great as was my granddaughters meal. The orange juice is made fresh so it is not pour from a container. The only drawback this day was service was very slow and it took some time to be waited on - not sure if they were short on staff or what. No hot/hostess greeted us - so we felt lost. Once a server did come by they were friendly. All in all we will give it another try.

New, Delicious, Reasonable and Gracious

By Al S |

The title says a lot. This is in a small mall, very casual, pastry baked in house and lovely, great sandwiches, egg dishes. Take out or dine on the roofed & heated patio. The staff is absolutely a treat. They go out of their way to be sure you are happy with where, what and when. We were in Carlsbad for a week and had breakfast or lunch there at least four or five times.

Chicken and mushroom crepe

By Eddie Travels |

QUICKIE REVIEW De-li-cious! FOOD This is what I tried: Chicken and mushroom crepe WOW. First thoughts that come to mind when I think about what I had. Full of flavor and absolutely delicoious. Highly recommended if you are looking for something to try. PARKING Yes. It is in a strip plaza and parking is shared. SERVICE Good. Waitress was courteous and prompt. PRICE $15. Well worth every penny. TIP/OTHER THOUGHTS Waitress highly touted that they are known for their salmon benedict and will be what I have next time I come here.

Now called "Cocotte Bistro"

By CarrollZahn |

This restaurant is now called Cocotte Bistro. The menu has some traditional French items like Steak au Poivre and Beef Burgundy. I have found the Steak with thin French fries to be excellent, but the beef burgundy was just okay. They have a nice selection of beers and wines and pleasant outdoor seating.

A gem of a resturant.

Hidden Treasure

By Phyllis S |

We love this little restaurant hidden in a strip center off of University Town Center Road. Christina is always ready to greet you with a smile. Her husband creates an amazing assortment of delicious pastries. (He teaches pastry cooking at a local culinary institute.) Our favorites are the best Quiche Lorraine I have had in years, the salmon eggs Benedict, and the steak Frites. The place could use some interior design improvements, but the service was friendly and enthusiastic and the food is excellent.

Excellent place for Brunch - Crepes, Quiche, Good Coffee

By sand_ca_traveler |

This is my favorite place for breakfast/lunch in the UTC area. Wonderful Crepes and deserts, excellent wines. The place is very small.
