Solid breakfast option

By ezfuzz |

Really consistent and yummy breakfast/lunch spot. It may not be worth a crazy long wait, which can happen on weekends, but on weekdays when the crowds aren't as big, it's definitely one of the best (if one of very few) breakfast options on E 6th.

Great Breakfast

By go11 |

I visited this place twice during my visit to Austin this past week. A small diner with great, fresh food. Make sure you get a pancake or biscuit while there!

Best Brunch

By EmilyD |

We had brunch/lunch there today and were really happy we did. The food was amazing and the setting is laid back and really friendly and welcoming. Diner food with a farm to table goodness. The best hot sauce ever. We bought a bottle to go

Good Service OK food

By Tis_Brian |

Nice place, reasonable parking, food did not live up to expectations. The vegi burgers were bland, lacked flavor(good news is they are planning to change the vegi burgers in the near future). I had a regular burger(supposed to be 2nd best in Texas), it was juicy but flavor was lacking(needed some seasoning, especially some salt). The french frys were very tasty buy needed to be dried a bit before serving(large pool of oil on my plate afterward).

Tasty Beeakfast Spot

Great little place for a quick, tasty breakfast in East Austin! The breakfast tacos are generously filled, and the blueberry pancakes are truly delicious. Service is friendly, and the waiters are oh-so-Austin (quirky and fun). Nice little side patio too.

Very cool "diner" with great, healthy food

By Marty M |

This place has a sibling downtown, near the mother ship Whole Foods, but for some reason we always seem to land at this East Austin location. They're only open until mid afternoon, and there is always a crowd, but it's worth the wait. Breakfast is served until closing as well as great lunch offerings. I had the blueberry (fresh, organic) pancakes with fresh butter and maple syrup. Sounds pretty normal, right? Look at the pictures on this page, and you'll see they are not. First, an order of two might leave you taking one of them home! They're almost the size of an lp and fill up a large dinner plate. Second, they are out of this world delicious! My wife tried something new with the poached eggs over cheesy grits, and she asked our server for an option without the bacon infused collard greens between the eggs and grits. He quickly suggested some sauteed spinach...she was happy! I'd try something new too, if I could just get over those pancakes!

Excellent breakfast

We were staying nearby and CounterCafe was highly recommend for a good breakfast. Couldn't have been more correct. Service was great, pricing reasonable, and food very well parpared.

Excellent breakfast

One of the best breakfasts in town, with friendly service and great coffee. They have fresh squeezed OJ to boot! The biscuits and gravy are excellent.

More Cowbell!!

By Cakes77 |

I agree that the staff does a good job of keeping things moving. There was a line out front, late in the morning, so we waited while I ran over and got my coffee over at Cuvee next door. They are dog friendly and sat us in the shade alongside the building outside. I got my poached eggs with a pork chop. We all enjoyed our breakfast with a big shared two large pancakes. They were playing classic rock while we ate. Before we left, Blue Oyster Cult came on. When the young waitress asked if she could get anything else for us, I said, "Yes, more cowbell"! She missed the reference.

Ho Hum

Not at all impressed.....not by the cleanliness, not by the service, not by the food. There are lots of better places in Austin to have a good breakfast/brunch with friends, which is what I did the other day. Wouldn't recommend it.....

SXSW favorite

Based on the wait and the crowds, this is an excellent choice for breakfast. We actually were seated quite promptly and the staff does a good job of keeping things moving. Great breakfast options (pancakes are as big as your head) - can't really go wrong here.

Counter Cafe is So Welcoming

By mojomo |

This is a review of W 29th location. Little bit of a wait on Sunday morning after Graduation/Commencement ceremonies, but just the ticket and conveniently located near West Campus. Great from start to finish. Lovely Belgian waitress. She took the time and was very welcoming as was the hostess. We had the eggs Benedict, the Southern poached eggs on cheesy grits & greens. Delicious cup of chicken verde soup & half sandwich, Migas, blueberry pancake & do not forget the biscuit (delicious). You will not leave hungry. Efficient and very good service. The place was jumping & the hum of happy folks chatting was so nice.

Great Breakfast

By John B |

Breakfast was just fantastic. The family stopped there for breakfast. My daughter was familiar with the place and had recommended it. Everyone got something different and we were stuffed when we left. We weren't rushed and made to feel very much at home. Next time in Austin will again stop in for breakfast.

Farm fresh delicious food!

A delicious farm grown place to eat! Everything was fresh and quick service. Would definitely eat here again when visiting!!

Loved this place!

By NYtraveler11790 |

I was staying nearby on a solo trip. So delighted to find this place. Loved having breakfast at the counter. Breakfast taco was great. Loved the fresh juice. On my second visit, my special request for breakfast was no problem. My server both days was friendly and attentive. Staff was friendly and I felt super comfortable. Definitely will return on my next visit.

Chai Tea and Gluten Free

By petra3continents |

Dropped in at USPS, but because they were closed, I had 30 mins to spare. Saw Counter Cafe and decided to pop in. What a nice place. Lots of gluten free options. Chai Tea was yummy. The place was busy, despite it being midweek, always a good sign. Will drive the 30 minutes to go there again.

Austin original

Great breakfast. Good price. Migas were excellent. Service dog friendly. Manager asked the right questions, other dogs relegated to the patio.

Amazing breakfast!!!

By Traveling_Tina27 |

This spot is AWESOME! I had the breakfast taco and it was fantastic. Don't miss the potatoes- best I've ever had. This is our first morning in Austin and we are syked to have found this place. My niece is vegan - she got Joe's Specisl and loved it. Will def come back! Only downfall is no espresso drinks but there is a place next door- ha ha

Great Burger

We always try to go to a location that Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives went to when we are traveling and Counter Cafe did not disappoint! We got the Counter Burger & Fries it and was great. would definitely go back if we come to Austin again.

Good Breakfast, but not Worth the Wait

By gournal23 |

On a recent trip to Austin a couple of friends and I came here for breakfast. There was about a 45 minute wait on a Saturday morning, which shouldn't come as too much of a surprise for an Austin eatery. We waited for a lot of meals during our time in Austin, and while the food here was good, it was not quite worth the wait. I enjoyed the eggs Benedict with pastrami and while the eggs were perfectly poached and the house hollandaise sauce was good, the pastrami was not as packed with flavor as it could have been. However, the primary area of disappointment was in the biscuits. We chose this place because it appeared on the Austin Eater list for where to find the best biscuits in Austin, and they just were not up to par. So, while the food was good, there are better places to check out in Austin, especially if you're going to be waiting for a table.

Amazing bisquits and jam!

By Hank512 |

Nothing short of over achieving perfection would come close to describing this new location of the COUNTER CAFE! I had the burger last week, brought my wife for brunch on 12/31/16, and all were very impressed. So much to say, so little time. Lets start with the local sourced grass fed beef. This is ground fresh and no seasoning added. When you bite into this patty you will taste only the finest product served as fresh as possible and cooked to order on your burger. But wait! Try the fries! Dang it! These crunchy salty , crispy garlic gems are the best I have ever had. Wow Moving on to brunch....we arrived at 8:15 and it was bustling but no wait. We watched the staff squeeze the oj and then had a couple mimosas (see photos please) . I had the grilled pork chop / eggs scrambled with homestyle potatoes/ bisquit and jam. Chop was seasoned to perfection. Eggs were out of the park. Potatoes? In this joint potatoes are something you have never experienced before , no one can top these. What makes this place special? The staff, the fresh local sourced product, the flavors, the skill of the chef preparing all of this. The customers. Plan ahead. Timing is crucial since the crowds will be huge at primetime. But go....soon.

Don't miss this little place

By Alice G |

This place was so awesome, we went there twice in a week. Service is great, everyone is very friendly. The fresh squeezed orange juice, holy cow. So delicious. Everything we had was fantastic. And the pancakes are so light and huge!

Really good and warm atmosphere, lovely Texan..

I had a breakfast on my last day in Austin. It is really good for breakfast. You can have eggs, pancakes etc. definitely recommended...

Long wait for good food

By Jenny M |

The giant blueberry pancake for sharing was fantastic as were the breakfast tacos. The burger was quite good as well. Make sure to get there early or you will be waiting for along time to get a table. We waited for 1.5 hours instead of the estimated 45 minutes. We would definitely go earlier. Parties of more than 4 (like ours) had to wait the longest.

Great Little Diner

By DannyMac13 |

The Counter Cafe has two locations in Austin, but I enjoy going more to the one on east 6th. This is due to the location of their original restaurant which on a busy section of Lamar. They serve all fresh and organic food here. This is not my reason for coming, but everything here is delicious. I gave them only 4 stars due to their prices... a bit high, but you will enjoy their food! I usually come here for breakfast, but they serve lunch as well. I've enjoyed their crab cake eggs Benedict (see pictures) which is over priced, but very good and very filling. The best value here is their hot cakes... only $4 and one will fill your entire plate (see picture). I always add the fresh blue berries it's another $1.5, but I wouldn't recommend eating one without them.

Too Pricey for Ho-hum

By Allen B |

The Counter Burger was once considered a top rated burger. YAWN. The burger, cooked to medium rare, was not juicy at all and bland tasting. There was something added to the burger veggies that should not be on a traditional burger, could not identify the taste. Way too pricey for an average burger. The fries would’ve been good, but very salty. Not anything like the old GM Steakhouse that used be in this location. Also too many millennial hipster west coast east coast types in this shoulder-to-shoulder diner. Not an Austin type place for someone whose been here since ‘59. Won’t go back.

Funky place to get ur day started

By ElMa1983 |

We decided to try this place as it was recommended by locals and it was our first stop in any Austin store. Coffee is good, breakfast overall is pretty good, service is friendly and reasonably fast and prices are pretty ok (within our budget). I enjoyed the granola - yogurt dish (yogurt is a bit sour but add honey to it and ur good to go). Place is pretty much packed but the terrace outside is pretty cool to hang out. Would go back again.

Best Greens Ever!

By ReefWatch |

Friendly service, amazing bottomless coffee, and tasty breakfast dishes. The southern poached eggs were on a bed of cheese grits on a bed of collard greens. Best greens I have ever had. On 6th on the East side.

Normal, American food

By Wvugirl311 |

Loved this for lunch. Had the soup, salad and sandwich option and will go back tomorrow. It was that good. The other in my party had the chicken burger and it was gone before I was done my soup. Great atmosphere and wait staff!
