Counter Culture is the type of place I look for in a city; it's relaxed, a little funky and definitely off the beaten path. I came here with my husband, an omnivore who isn't afraid to dive in and enjoy vegan food, for an evening meal after a long day touring the city. He ordered the lentil loaf and I got the BBQ Jackfruit quesadillas and both were fantastic! The quesadilla is a huge portion, so you won't be leaving anything but stuffed from this place. In addition to the excellent food, they have a superb range of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Everything is made in-house, so expect a bit of a wait. I highly recommend this place if you are vegetarian/vegan or are interested in exploring more plant-based fare.

Very pleased to find this place here, being a southsider and stumbling upon it. Vegan restaurants are definitely more expensive these days, compared to places from yesteryear- but if you crave well prepared and creative Vegan food as we do, it is worth it!

Counter Culture is hands down one of my favorite vegan spots in Austin! The food is consistently amazing and the staff is always so wonderful and helpful. My vegan bodybuilding team ate here over the weekend and had the patio reserved. We had a good 20 people or so and everyone got their food SO QUICKLY! We were starving after a full weekend of competition and photo shoots and our food was constantly coming out of the kitchen. Our waitresses kept everything very organized and everyone got what they ordered (we ordered a LOT!). They also kept track of everyone's checks and who had what with no issues. As for the food... My sister and I ordered the pizza special of the week (seitan pepperoni with cashew cheeze OMG.) and the sandwich special (maple BBQ sandwich with massaged kale salad - again, OMG). Of course you can't go to Counter Culture without ordering the Buffalo Mac & Cheeze Balls. Cause duh. Love love love Counter Culture and can not recommend enough!

Um. I wanted to try EVERYTHING on the menu but it was just me. Now I have to come back the next two days I'm here. It's pretty much the way I cook at home! The service is just a bit slow but it was the lunch rush. Plus most things are made from scratch. The GF mac n cheese was slightly dry but tasty. Everything else I had was great. Day 2: I had the Tempeh Ruben gluten-free option. Pretty good. It came with one side for $15. I had the quinoa salad served cold. I did not like it cold. Do not have a picture of that I was too hungry and forgot, sorry. If you're lucky enough to get one of the two spots behind the restaurant that's great. The rest of us have to park on side streets around the area.

My husband and I stopped here because it is one of the few vegan places around. I'm pretty sure it's the only ALL vegan place in Austin. It was delicious!! We would totally go back there again. Lots of options, nice people, chill atmosphere.

I'm not a vegan or even a vegetarian but Counter Culture is at the top of my list. The Jackfruit BBQ sandwich is delicious and filling without being full. For dessert I had a Sweet Potato Chocolate Chip Blondie, which I haven't stopped thinking about since. I'll be going back again and again.

Loved the casual feel of the place. Clean and great service. Food was really good. Taco and a fried Mac and cheese. All new food to me and my husband. We left pleased.

Great local restaurant with vegetarian and vegan fare. I had the Pad Thai, very tasty, nicely spiced. My wife had the "Sausage" and sauerkraut with seitan sausage. The sausage was tasty with a little kick to it. All os the sides are delicious. Great meal at a very nice price.

After landing in Austin from Florida we were starving! While Happy Cow showed us plenty of vegan options in the area, we decided to check out Counter Culture. I am so glad we did! Food was amazing and completely vegan. To start off we ordered the buffalo mac & cheese balls which were amazing! I then ordered the "tuna" melt on rye while my fiancee had the "pastrami" melt sandwich. Both were flavorful and filling. I wish we loved closer to try everything on the menu but I know next time we are in Austin, this will be the first place we go back to!

This place is a vegan haven. I am not vegan but enjoyed the dining experience and would have liked to explore the dishes more completely. Outdoor dinner dining is noisy from the traffic but it is muffled inside.

Located on far-east Cesar Chavez i.e. do not expect a fancy place - it's in an old home converted to a restaurant - simple decor, basic tables. The food range is quite good (although not light). Enjoyed the appetizers.

I had heard such good things about Counter Culture and, while the service was fine and atmosphere was pleasing, clean and comfortable, the pozole soup was bland and tasteless, the artichoke dip was only average and the bread dry and ordinary. We were happy that we had not ordered more than this. Not even worth another visit for me.

The service was great, as was the food. The Buffalo Mac & Cheeze Balls were spicy and tasty; and they are pretty good sized and come with a really good house-made sauce. The Jackfruit BBQ sandwich was tasty too. The jalapeno cornbread was flavorless and lacked appeal; I would not recommend that side item. This was my first time to this restaurant. Overall, very good experience. The server was very friendly and approachable. He recommended some other vegan spots in Austin that I thought was very nice and helpful. The restaurant was very dark upon entering and small; but, it was quaint. There were a few tables w/ chairs and a decent sized bar area. You might think the location is questionable as the area doesn't seem like the nicest but I had no problems. Parking was on a side street next to someone's house. I didn't notice any lots close by but other vegan establishments are very close by on the same street. This is definitely a spot I'd visit again and would definitely recommend!

Food took a long time. The artichoke dip and bread was very good. The jackfruit bbq sandwich wasn't worth eating. Asked for pizza without chorizo and they put it on anyway. Would take another 15 minutes to make it and we had already waited a super long time so just asked for a piece of coconut pie instead so we wouldn't have to wait. One bite and it was terrible and tasted mostly like salt. We won't go there again.

We were in Austin for a week and came here a few times. For breakfast lunch and dinner. Each time the food was indescribably delicious and the service was fantastic. So sad to leave the city and not be able to come everyday but can’t wait to come back.

Came here for brunch and waited 40+minutes! Was offered seating outside with the 45 degrees temperature. We politely declined. S table finally opened up and the hostess again asked if we wanted to sit outside!! Excuse you. What part of the first NO did you not understand. Then folks seated after us got their food before us. They were a royal fiasco with only 2 servers. I'm writing this review before I even try the food. I'm thinking nothing will be worth the horrible service in this hell hole. Avoid it like the plague!!!

My husband and I had dinner at Counter Culture, last night. We sat outside and the patio was so pretty and had a great ambiance. For drinks, I had the Malbec and he had the Blue Owl Spirit Animal. Both were very good. For appetizers we had the spicy baked artichoke dip, cheeze plate and Buffalo mac 'n cheeze balls. For dinner, we split the pastrami melt, with a side of caesar salad. The food was so satisfying. I think our favorite was the cheeze balls. We would've licked the plate clean if that would have been considered normal.

Even vegetarians and vegans deserve good BBQ! Being one of the highest rated vegan / vegetarian restaurants around with jack fruit on the menu, we had to stop in. A very colorful and bright environment that offers plenty of outdoor seating on the private patio with a very impressive menu. The staff are friendly and personable, and they make a hell of good BBQ jackfruit. We had the mac and cheese balls for an appetizer, an excellent choice. Not only was everything extremely flavorful, the staff were absolutely great. Cheers!

We came here twice while in town on vacation. We ordered a handful of dishes during that time and they were all a huge hit. Delicious vegan home-style cooking. I'd highly recommend the jack fruit BBQ sandwich... But really, it was all good! Great service and quick seating as well.

This restaurant was very good. Even my meat and potatoes hubby was satisfied. He has the jackfruit BBQ and found it was very good. I fell in love with the chocolate Chia pudding to the point I am going to try to make it at home.

I loved this place. The staff was so friendly and welcoming and the food was great. My favorite was the mac and cheese - would highly recommend!! I also loved the desserts. Great gluten free options!!

This is a little house over on the East side of Austin. There is a tiny parking lot that larger cars/truck won't fit into so if you're meeting someone give yourself extra time to look for street parking. There is limited inside seating but lots of outside seating. It's nice enough- little dingy and grimy but nothing that looked like it could be a health issue. The service was good but the place was practically empty. I am not a vegetarian or a vegan, I will quite happily eat anything. Most of my vegetarian/vegan experiences have been quite flavorless- not sure why. But I do like to try all kinds of different cuisines so a friend and I headed to lunch after an art class one Sat. They only had a small brunch menu so I was a little disappointed at not being able to see what they typically serve. But I was able to I try a basil lemonade mimosa- which was on the black board. It was light and refreshing- not a heavy flavor of any of the ingredients. Nothing really stood out to me on the brunch menu I was really hoping for a savory sandwich. So I just went for the "country biscuit bowl". Which was a Spelt biscuit, split in half then covered with tofu scramble, seitan sausage, roasted potatoes, pickled jalepenos, grilled onions & peppers smothered with golden gravy- then the top of the biscuit placed on top. It looked disgusting- like a brown on brown lumpy something. But it was really tasty. I LOVED it. Way too salty but the pickled jalepenos were the perfect acid touch to give it some brightness. My friend had the breakfast burrito (Tofu scramble, seitan sausage, roasted potatoes, cashew cheeze & avacado. Served with a side of salsa & soutwestern aioli. ). She said it was fine but not great. While we were waiting for our food we had a conversation about why make vegan/vegetarian food try to emulate meat. Why make a fake sausage that tastes nothing like sausage - or bacon? Why not make fun tasty vegan/vegetarian food? I would definitely go back during the week to try their regular menu

Vegan food was awesome. The macaroni and cheese was my favorite however nachos came in a close second. Great options for vegetarians and they also have some great beers as well.

Unassuming and amazing!! Counter Culture is the gem of Austin. Fantastic food, friendly staff and a chill atmosphere. The owner is one who treats her staff and customers like family and gives back to the community always. Not only will your tummy and tastebuds be happy when you visit Counter Culture, so will your heart and soul knowing you’re contributing to a business with a heart!! 💚❤️

Our friends recommend this spot as it is supposedly where the locals go. We came at an off peak time for happy hour (30% off apps) so we had no issue with seating or service. Food was comfort good, nothing spectacular but filled us up and left us happy. Nice selection of local kombucha and service was knowledgeable and friendly.

After spending Thanksgiving with my Nigerian/American family in San Antonio where even the vegetables were made with meat, I was keen that they got to experience a Vegan meal. I found Counter Culture via the healthy eating app Happy Cow and we drove from San Antonio to Austin because I had a flight back to London from there later that evening. The family consisted of my 69-year old mum, my 2 and 4-year old nephews, my brother and I. After a two hour drive, we arrived at Counter Culture at 3:30pm and there was a closed sign on the door. This surprised me as I’d checked the opening times and did not see that it would be closed between 3pm and 4pm. We could see some people inside the restaurant so my mum went inside to check. She came back to say they were closed but reopened at 4pm. The female staff member she spoke to said we could wait inside till they reopened. So I took my two toddler nephews and followed my mum inside while my brother went to park the car. Once we got inside a gentleman approached us and told us they were closed and we’d have to wait outside till they opened at 4. I told him that one of his colleagues had told my mum that it was ok to wait inside. He told us there was a bench outside and we could wait there. I pointed to the two toddlers with me and explained it would not be a good idea to wait on the streets with the little ones. He shrugged and said we’d have to wait outside. We prepared to leave, but my mum had gone to the restroom, and while waiting for her a female member of staff came up to me and asked if I’d to take a look at the menu while we wait. I told her what her male colleague had told us and she said yes they were closed and they did have to get the restaurant ready for opening at 4pm, but it was ok for us to sit and wait inside. So we did. A few minutes later, the male colleague came up with a broom and told us we needed to move as we were in his way. I asked where was the best place for us to situate ourselves so we were not in the way of anyone. He told us we shouldn’t even be in there and if we wanted to wait we had to wait on the bench outside. He made it very clear that he did not want us in the restaurant. I pointed out that we had driven from San Antonio and I was very disappointed at his lack of compassion that he would expect our party which included a 69-year-old woman and two toddlers to wait outside, but he just shrugged. He just didn’t want us in his establishment. I knew then that we would not be coming back at 4pm to have food there. We would not have taken the family into the restaurant had the lady who spoke to my mum originally not said we could wait there. But once inside, the treatment for us a a family from the male member of staff genuinely crushed what had been a great time with my family. Had it been just me and my brother, then waiting outside would not have been an issue, but the lack of compassion shown to my mum and my nephews was enough to know this is not the establishment I want to support financially. There was a basically human decency lacking. My brother ended up taking my mum and nephews to Sonics where they had hot-dogs and I went on to the airport and had olives. I do hope I get another chance to let my family experience a vegan meal, but it will never be at Counter Culture, Austin.

I tried this place for something different. I'm vegetarian so I was happy with all the choices! I had the lentil loaf with corn bread and potato salad. The lentil loaf was tasty. I also liked the potato salad. I wasn't into the cornbread. I really enjoyed the juice of the day - strawberry watermelon!!! Yum!!! The service a bit slow. Overall it was good!

Food was amazing!!!! Recommend the nachos and macaroni cheese The restaurant was clean, staff friendly parking in the back

Went there for take out as we were staying close by. Servers inside were very friendly and very knowledgeable about food sensativities. Food was very tasty and reasonably priced.

We made reservations for 13 on Easter Sunday. When we arrived, they had our table setup on the patio. Nice try, it was damp and cool so we weren't eating outside. The staff quickly and pleasantly setup a place to eat inside and we were seated promptly. The menu is full of great sounding options. With so many of us, we ordered many times from the menu. When it was all said and done, the food lacks real creativity. It is good, but nothing was great or outstanding. Coffee was watery. "Crab" cakes tasted like veggie burger patty. Tofu scramble was poorly seasoned. Biscuits and gravy was more like soup. Pancakes were decent. Will most likely give this place another shot, but will hope for different cook or maybe same cook on a better day.

This was our first meal stop in Austin and it did not disappoint! The buffalo mac n cheez balls were to die for and I couldn't get over how delicious the lavender lemonade mimosa was. Definitely don't miss out on this one!

Counter Culture Restaurant is a Vegan/Vegetarian restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. It is dog friendly in the outdoor seating area. It specializes in Meatless, dairy free, raw and gluten free food. Not all of the food is GF, so ask your waiter or waitress for information. It is open 7 days a week from 11 am to 10 pm. I tried to GF Broccoli and mac and "cheese" and it was OK. Parking behind the restaurant is very limited.

This place is a real gem! They know what they are doing. So many great options! The hard part is not over eating

Great food. Great service. Will go back. Breakfast burrito was delicious -shitaki and asparagus omelette was great. We also enjoyed the biscuits and gravy and. What a treat to be able to get all vegan food at a reasonable price with good quality.

Located in the bohemian sector of ATX, east of IH35 on Cesar Chavez, this is a full vegan restaurant cafe, with excellent vegan choices. If you like meat, and can not do vegan, this is not a place for you. All vegan choices are worth trying. Excellent food, even if you are not vegan!

My cousin and I went on a vegan food journey throughout Austin. We stopped by Counter Culture and had two appetizers. My cousin and I had the Buffalo Mac & Cheeze Balls and the Raw Brushetta. I thoroughly enjoyed the Mac & Cheeze Balls, they were spicy, but not overly spicy. The Raw Brushetta was delicious. The flavors were good and did not overpower each other. Additionally, although there weren't many people in the restaurant, it took a while for the staff to come over before taking our order and delivering our food. Overall, we enjoyed everything. We'd probably be back to have a full meal and dessert.

This is the best place I've ever been. Everything is vegan and delicious! The people are really nice and I can't think of a place with better food!

The food here is delicious. It's just that simple. We had Southern Fried Seitan (the gravy was silky smooth) with sides of potato salad and a curry fruit quinoa, and Raw Pad Thai with sides of tossed salad and roasted vegetables. We finished the meal with coffee cinnamon ice cream and a brownie. We had great service, too. My only complaint would be that it was hard to find a place to park.

I was there on a Saturday so they only had a limited brunch menu but the omelette was spectacular. It was full of veggies and I didn't ask what the egg substitute was but the taste was wonderful. I had a bowl of fresh fruit also and it was a very nice combination of 6 or 7 fruits and very sweet and tasty. Next time I am in Austin this will be a definite stop. One complaint, the place is small and one table was so loud you could hardly hear anything else.

I ordered take out on a Sunday. It was busy but the wait wasn't too long. I had the Costa Rican breakfast special that was highly recommended by the staff and it was amazing! I will be back the next time I'm in Austin.

My sister and I met in Austin for her birthday and she was so excited to try Counter Culture. The food was great (especially the buffalo Mac and Cheeze balls). I highly recommend it.

We came here for Sunday brunch and were not disappointed. I ordered the special which included pumpkin grits, flavorful beans, roasted sweet potatoes, roasted asparagus, and tempeh bacon. I would order that again in a heartbeat! My daughter got the special "omelette" with spinach and potato and also loved it. We split a coconut cream pie and it was tasty too. No disappointments here.

Excellent vegan food. They also serve beer! I highly recommend the buffalo Mac n cheez balls w ranch. The prices are really great too. Excellent servers. Very friendly.

Just go try it for yourself. The food is creative and so good. We go for the Taco Tuesday every week. They've recently updated the interior and menu and have a lot of specials that they list on their social media accounts. The chef really shines with her creative use of seasonal and local produce in the special. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. Love this place!

Counter Culture is my favorite Austin vegan joint! They have a delicious creative menu, staff are super friendly, and Sue, the owner, is as sweet as they come. They're able to handle pretty much any dietary need. I recently had they cater a small party and Sue created a custom oil-free catering vegan menu to meet our needs.

I live in Los Angeles and have eaten at many vegan restaurants, but I was truly impressed with this place. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food. The dishes are creatively realized with so much hand-crafted care down to the made-from-scratch vegan cheeses and condiments. I had the amazing beet burger on the best GF bread I've ever eaten, and my friend had three salads, including the jackfruit with kidney beans that was the best Mexican jackfruit recipe I've ever had. He's not vegan and really liked the place. I'm sorry I didn't have a dessert, but I was too full from the generous portions.

Good food. Nice patio. Great for vegans/vegetarians!!! That being said I got the breakfast bowl and it was a little salty and soggy. I will go back to try something different. My friend really enjoyed her dish (tofu rancheros). It's eclectic and cool, and right across from Juan in a Million.

SO GOOD! I love their brunch- stuffed french toast and seasonal omelets. Happy hour is a great deal and dinner- cheese plates, soul food burrito, beet mushroom burger.... the list goes on . I've never had a bad meal here. Service is great, love the decor. There is nothing like it in all of Texas! BTW- I think they compost/recycle everything and buy mostly local ingredients- no processed stuff here!

We happened upon this restaurant by accident but we were very glad that we did! The staff here were all extremely friendly and helpful and the food is delicious! The dining area is clean and comfortable. The menu has some really unusual options, we particularly loved the cashew 'cheese' board. We would certainly seek out Counter Culture again if we were in the area. Highly recommended for any veggies, vegans or people looking for something different.

This is a vegan joint in East Austin. It is a cafe and rather old school at that. Kind of like stepping into a 70s diner. If you like that sort of thing, well, you will be right at home. I have been here a couple times and there has never been a wait for a table. There is both outdoor and indoor seating. There is beer and wine if you need some alcohol. The food is well vegan. I am not a vegan but I appreciate it. The jackfruit bbq is my favorite. The sauce is both sweet and tangy. The vegan meatloaf was a tad on the spicy side but still good. As for the sides, I am a fan of the beets and the potato salad. The food overall is pretty decent but not the best vegan food I have had. For Austin though it is pretty good.

We ate here twice during our visit...craving the comfort food they offer. Loved the artichoke dip. The seitan was yummy. My husband loved his desserts each night.

We had the Buffalo Mac & Cheese balls, pizza, pumpkin curry quinoa & cheesecake… and they were all awesome! Callie was truly the best. Great recommendations & service! She deserves a raise! We’ll be back!

If you are looking for a vegan comfort food type restaurant, it is worth checking out Counter Culture. We were headed to the airport and stopped by to grab a bite before our flight. We split the "steak and cheese." Funky/fun interior and nice people.

Once again this is one of those restaurant that anybody could go to, whether you are Vegan or not. The service was very good ,and the food was out of this world. I had a ice cream for desert that was to die for. Dog friendly patio available. A must when you are in Austin.

This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Austin. They have home made cheeses for appetizers - you have to try it. Plus, the Pesto Rawvioli is scrupmtious! The cheese in Mac 'n Cheeze is made from cashews. All of the raw desserts are highly recommended. The Brownie Bites are made from almonds, walnuts, raisins & dates. The donut holes are almonds, coconuts, dates and chocolate. I would try on eof each and take them home for a late night dessert.

We took a cab from Downtown to get here and the $10 cab fare was well spent. We had the Artichoke appetizer, the Mac n' "Cheese" with brocolli and the "Sausage" with sauerkraut sandwich. Had a pretty decent local beer as well from the nearby Blue Owl brewing.

I've been here a few times. The first time I wasn't that impressed but I tried it again, liked it and now it's growing on me. I went there for dinner and had the mac and cheese which was baked and very good. It came with 2 sides, I got the potato salad which was pretty good and jalapeno cornbread (fabulous!); after devouring that, which was plenty, I felt like having dessert so I did. I had the special brownie sundae with all the toppings. That was scrumptiously good (although the coconut whipped cream had deflated) and surprisingly, I was rather full after that. The service is good. If it is busy sometimes there is a wait but generally no complaints. The atmosphere here is casual. There is outdoor seating although, for me, it's generally too hot to sit outside. There is also a bar but I've never sat at it. If you like vegan comfort food, this is a treat. I recommend it.

Loved this place. Great plant-based food and even had Engine2Diet selections on menu. Nice covered courtyard out front.

Nice atmosphere and broad range of options. The best part? Breakfast is served until 3 PM. As for the food itself, it is fresh but rather heavy. A lot of choice.

We are near-vegan vegetarians, so were excited when a friend had been suggested this place, an all-vegan restaurant. How fun to not have to ask if there is animal stock, fish sauce, bacon grease, etc. in dishes! The menu is filled with things that sound interesting, but were severely disappointing. We ordered "bacon", which arrived looking like thick slabs of anemic Spam, bearing absolutely no resemblence or taste to bacon. The breakfast scramble was almost tasteless, an ugly, gummy presentation. The burrito was okay if you were really hungry, which we were. We ended up dousing everything in Louisiana Hot Sauce to get it down. For dessert, we ordered the optimistically entitled Coconut Cream Pie -- coconut flakes mashed into bananas, and frozen, topped with chocolate sauce. It reminded me of a preschool "cooking" project. The service was cheerful, but disorganized. All of this might have been written off, except this meal wasn't cheap eats. The bill for food alone was over $60 for 4 people. I have paid less for delicious food in a pretty restaurant, which this is definitely not. So, the shaved-head chick and the tattooed skateboarder customers won't have to give threatening looks to this rather mainstream family ever again.

Earlier this week a friend and I went to this restaurant mid- to late-evening. We're not vegetarian or vegan, but we love the food here. We each got the special - an apple, brie, spinach and fig preserves pizza, and a falafel with tzatziki "taco" dish. I also got a side of the white bean and roasted kale soup, which was amazing. The kale still retained its texture and the soup was thick and hearty on a cold night. I only ate half the pizza (which was great as leftovers the next day) because everything was so filling! Best of all, perhaps, was the plum oolong tea. The server was quick to bring us extra hot water when we wanted another pot. Will return frequently!

I was looking at Google Maps and ran across a listing that said, "Counter Culture: Elevated vegan comfort food." Thank you, Google... (After years of trying to eat vegetarian, I started dating this amazing animal rights activist who enlightened me to where are food comes from. The more I learned, the more I became interested in vegan diet and culture.) Well, thank the heavens for Counter Culture, because the restaurant goes against all of the myths that vegan/vegetarian food doesn't taste good or have flavor. I ordered the Tuesday Taco Special, and it was delicious. It had something that I would have bet money was chicken in it, but it wasn't. It was a vegetable protein that just tasted like chicken. The tacos were topped with a tasty sauce with fresh veggies and a touch of mint. Yum! Two filled me right up! Yet, I still needed more, so I got the Coconut Cream Pie with a scoop of vegan ice cream on the side. I didn't think I liked Coconut desserts and foods, but after Counter Culture, I'm now definitely down with Coconut Cream Pie! The pie was creamy, yet light and refreshing. And it was made on a homemade crumble crust that had me licking my plate. The drizzle of chocolate sauce on top - combined with the vanilla vegan ice cream - was just what my sweet tooth ordered. Delicious. Side note: I saw the guitarist for Def Leppard, Phil Collen and his wife Helen eating at Counter Culture last weekend. And a month or so before that, I saw actress Alicia Silverstone eating there with a friend. So I get the impression that word is spreading about the special little mid-century decorated restaurant. I wish all restaurants were as ethical and tasty as Counter Culture. This place is just really special!

A great place for breakfast and lunch. A very different menu for breakfast. I had quail, eggs, potatoes and a wonderful biscuit handmade. Their pancakes were the size of a dinner plate. Their sausage patties are ground there and put on the grill. It was all yummy.

Easily my new favorite vegan restaurant. Yes the Mac and cheese is great, but so is the Reuben and cornbread. We tried the peach cobbler with ice cream, feels good to have great vegan comfort food. Great concept. #1 for vegan and Mr Natural is a close second IMO.

Really enjoyed our plant based lunch. Everything is vegan with gluten free options. I had the beet burger and quinoa salad and my husband had seitan pastrami and mashed potatoes. Food tasted fresh and not oily. Very filling patio sitting was an option. Server was very friendly and wearing a mask. Easy to park behind the restaurant too.

My daughter brought me here for lunch, and I was amazed. I had the mac and cheese and she had the Seiten in gravy. I enjoyed every bite of mine and snuck a couple of hers - it was terrific. The patio is great and the staff are super friendly.

We went there for vegan food. The burritos with sides were good. It was a bit too much on the plate for me personally though.

This is my second time visiting Counter Culture while in Austin. Simply amazing food! Super friendly service to boot and a fun outdoor patio too. I will definitely come back again!

You have Charming Eastside atmosphere and very friendly service. As always we are greeted with smiles and as an extra bonus they allow our dog in the cozy outside patio. We had the omelette with cashew cheese and spinach. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the cashew cheese is out of this world. The breakfast burrito also has amazing flavors with tofu and bean based stuffing. For vegan and vegetarian alike this is a great option for brunch!

I LOVE eating brunch here whenever I visit Austin. Most recently, they accommodated my party of 12 when I ate here after running the Austin Marathon. My favorite plate is the breakfast burrito, and their cashew cheeze can't be beat.

This is a fabulous little gem in Austin! We enjoyed our server Sydney....she was very friendly and helpful in making recommendations of what to order....the food was all delicious. What a great place with both indoor and outdoor dining!

We had a nice lunch on the patio. Salds and daily pizza were good; but the beet, ginger, orange kombucha and the beet mushroom burger were the standout dishes.

Heard about this place from a friend, so made a special trip to Austin to check it out. We were not disappointed. A colorful, casual little place, easy to get to from I-35, near downtown, with both indoor and outdoor seating. We have recently converted to a vegan diet, so were thrilled to be able to order anything on the menu - and there was a lot to choose from! I had the Tempeh Reuben, my husband had the Sausage and Sauerkraut sandwich. Both were delicious. We split a hot brownie sundae (yes!) for dessert! Can't wait to go back to something else!

I'm not vegan and I enjoy the food. I went with a party of 3 vegan individuals for brunch. Not a long waiting time which was positive-we had a table in the garden area. Excellent place in Cesar Chavez St.

Menu is 90% renditions of traditional foods such as a reuben sandwhich, but done vegan style. Everything I ate was yummy: a special veggie burger made with hatch chiles and the quinoa salad. I would come back.

Something for everyone here: raw, gluten free, soy free. The new raw additions are superb, my favorite is the raw butternut tacos. Not raw, but insanely delicious and satisfying is the beet mushroom burger. You will never miss meat again. Vegan cheeses are house made, not those plastic tasting processed ones you sometimes get in vegan food. Desserts are best in town. Get one to go if you haven't room for one after the generous entree portions. Friendly waitstaff and terrace dining. What more can you ask for?

Not just vegan dishes but a whole vegan restaurant. The food was delicious. All three of us omnivores enjoyed our food. It looked and tasted like regular food. The service was pleasant and good, but it did take a while for the food to be prepared. I recommend a beverage while waiting.

Took some out of town vegan guests here for dinner. Everyone loved it, including the non-vegans in the group!

We were visiting my friends in Austin and this is where they took us for an early brunch before we had to catch a flight back home. I had the chicken biscuit sandwich and I subbed breakfast potatoes for collard greens (because I needed the hangover-relieving grease). It was like the chicken biscuit sandwhich Chick-fil-A wants to make when it grows up. Also, the fact that it was made with a chicken thigh instead of a breast made it extra juicy and delicious. My boyfriend had the breakfast sandwich - make sure if you're weird about yolk, you request an over hard egg because the default seems to be over medium.

Almost everything is made from scratch. Don't miss the weekend brunch, but really lunch and dinner are always really good too. Laid back place with friendly service, a great patio and excellent food.

Not a vegetarian, but we were meeting a friend (who recently moved to Austin) for lunch who is a vegetarian and they had not tried Counter Culture yet. This food was outstanding and very flavorful. We had a great waiter who was able to explain all the dishes in detail. We had the Beet & Walnut burger (even if you don't like beets, you'll like this burger), Lentil Loaf (the waiter gave us the recipe),Quesadillas, Quinoa, and he Cocoanut Cream Pie for deserts. Everything was delish and very filling. Highly recommend. Weather was perfect to sit outside on their patio!

We visited Counter Culture when it first opened on a sunny weekday. We had a great meal, mine was fabulous! I had the smothered burrito and beets and sweets as my side. My burrito was huge and the beets and sweets were cooked beautifully. The burrito was true to it's name, it was smothered! Soooo good, I couldn't eat it all, which made me sad as I couldn't finish my side either. The good news, leftovers! Take a chance and check out this place. You won't be disappointed!

I love everything here, but especially the beet burger. Follow them on instagram to get a great idea of all of the delicious, inventive foods. This is vegan comfort food at its finest. I could honestly eat here everyday. I can't imagine that non-vegetarians wouldn't love it, too. The tastiness of the food is perfection! It has such a strong Austin vibe - cute, casual place!

Brought my hostess for dinner in thanks for hooking me up with a place to stay. It was her first experience with vegan cuisine and we both loved everything! I wish I lived closer!

I am not a vegan or vegetarian by any stretch of the imagination, but my wife is all for healthy eating, so it was with that in mind we tried Counter Culture for lunch one weekday. After finding street parking, we were seated outside on their funky patio. Service was friendly and helpful. My wife LOVED her veggie frittata, and I managed to find something I could eat (a sub sandwich with something I've never heard of)--the bread was out of this world! While not normally my type of food, the quality is there, and I applaud the restaurant's mission statement.

My family came here last Easter and it was so-so, the tofu scramble was subpar and the gravy was watery... Easter 2016, we came here again... not expecting too much, I was more than pleasantly surprised at the service and the meal. I had Tofu Rancheros, and it was delicious. Others had the quiche, tacos, quesadillas... everyone was quite pleased. We arrived here, a group of 14, at around opening... they don't take reservations so we had to wing it. Luckily we were first in line as the place filled immediately upon opening. All in all a great vegan experience.

Just loved the spicy raw pad thai, pesto rawvioli, and the raw bruschetta. The food was great and CeCe our waitress was so helpful. The raw donut holes were scrumptious. My husband ate the vegan sides that came with the order and he absolutely loved them. The wait time was about 15 minutes. Overall it was a great dining experience and we will definitely visit again.

We stopped for lunch and wow was it ever worth the drive. The burger easily rates highest! The service and food are top rate and if you go to Austin I highly recommend this place!

HORRIBLE experience; former regular customer. Owner was downright rude. Waiter ignored us repeatedly when I called to get his attention. He had to have heard me. The food took WAY too long then the portions were much smaller than usual. There were no menus available. To have people use their cell phones to scan a code and read a menu when we are sensitive to the microwave radiation of cell phones is unsafe, uncaring. They told us they only have two paper menus for the whole restaurant. The menus didn't have the things we got here last time and one of the two that contained different items didn't have any prices. When I asked for prices, waiter didn't know. This was off the chart disrespectful treatment by waiter and owner. Menu fails to say artichoke dip is super spicy- bad for you anyway. Super rude waiter -when I attempted to get some service. Said you're standing in an employee only area, rudely -no sign though. Hateful waiter. I asked why it was taking so long, the rude waiter said, the host at the door should've told you it was going to be 35 to 40 minutes from the time you order to get food. Told him that didn't happen and he just shrugged and walked away -was as far from apologizing as a person could get. WHAT A BULLCORN attitude all around from the owner and waiter. Go to Casa De Luz instead. It's a FAR better experience. Owner acted like she didn't even remember me. Prices are too high for serving sizes.

We enjoyed a super-delicious artichoke dip (pretty spicy!) served with toasted densely flavored squares of dark bread and sliced nutty, soft, light, flavorful bread. Also had ‘bruschetta’- flaxseed cracker base with cashew cheese and pesto topped with chunks of tomato. Neither of us liked the texture of the creamy pesto and cheese, but the flavors were good. Had a wonderful, light, slightly lemony ‘Greenhouse IPA’ beer; not sure it’s vegan but is listed as sustainable… and they had a vegan wine list. B had sauerkraut and sausage sandwich which he liked a lot. Came with a fantastic cornbread which was light and hearty, not too sweet or cakey, just perfect! Came with a tasteless, but fine vegan butter. We had a mixed greens salad with very fresh produce, super tender, served with a balsamic type dressing which was sweet and tart and overall, just great! The service was excellent, everyone working there was very nice, seemed happy to be working there. Restroom was clean and I noticed they recycle their paper towels. I wish my workplace did that! In my opinion, this restaurant rates an A+ for their principals, staff and food!

Food here was good but not great. Ordered borscht and vegan meatloaf. Friend ordered mac n cheese- cashew. All food tasted ok. But can't really rave about it. Our waiter needed a shower badly and that sort of changed my perception of my meal. Oh well...If you don't mind that sort of thing you may actually think the place is great.

My first time to go here, will not be my last! We had the special pizza of the day for appetizer, hit the gluten free crust and it was wonderful. I had the jalapeño portobello burger and I wanted to lick the plate, so darn good! Actually had desert, coconut creamer pie and it was great! Honestly I don’t think you can tell it’s all vegan. Worth a try!

The place is very cool with lots of places to sit and enjoy the variety of food in the menu. The servers were very friendly and helpful! It was very clean and nicely decorated! No smoking allowed!

I loved this place and wish we had one in San Antonio. Really really wonderful food. I had the breakfast burrito and also tasted the tofu rancheros and the Philly quesadilla, nothing I tasted left me wanting more. I'll definitely be back for more!

Love this place! Went here for dinner while exploring the east side of Austin, and we will definitely be back! The nachos and bruschetta were so delicious! All of our entrees were very good as well. This place is low key, reasonably priced, and quite the gem in a city being overcome with more showy restaurants... this is a true austin feel and definitely worth a try! We can't wait to go back.

I'm only giving this two stars, because usually the food here is incredible. This particular visit was a disaster. My husband and I came here for brunch. The place wasn't crowded when we arrived. A few more tables were sat after we had already ordered. Our server reminded us a few times that the kitchen was backed up, so food was delayed about 5-6 minutes. No big deal. Well, after an hour and a half of watching literally every table around us that arrived after us get their food, we figured it was time to say something. The server again, assured us that they were working on it. My husband went inside and told them that he understood that the kitchen was backed up, but we had sat down before all of these other tables that have received their food and their bill! After almost two hours of waiting, they finally brought us our food. My husband got the quesadillas, which were fine. I ordered the veggie Benedict (from the specials board). It was awful. I took about three bites before realizing that I couldn't do it. It was literally drowned in the hollandaise sauce. Completely inedible. When the server came by to ask how our check would be divided, my husband let him know that it wouldn't be fair to have us pay for it, since we waited almost two hours. The server came back and said the best he could do was give us 20% off of our meal. We explained that we had been here for two hours, etc. He did not budge. We will not be returning to this restaurant.

Came here for Brunch on a Sunday. Service was friendly but did take a while to get our food. Food was DELICIOUS though! I had their omelet special with their roasted potatoes (no ketchup needed!) and a biscuit with gravy. My mother had their pancake "platter" that also came with a tofu scramble, tempeh sausage and toast...I tried all of that too and it was great (yeah it's a lot of food but I had just ran a half marathon!). Definitely would visit again if back in Austin

My husband and I came down from Houston and we wanted to try some vegan spots. This place was on our list and it was so great we went back for more on the last day of our trip! The food was delicious especially the queso( like seriously order it). The atmosphere was awesome as well. Abby and Em were our servers on the nights that we went. Both of them were so nice, personable, friendly and attentive. They made suggestions about what to order and told us their favorite menu items and overall made our experience there really great! We can’t wait to come back next time! 🥰
Counter Culture
We have been trying all the popular restaurants in town one at a time. The food was pretty good. I got the bean quesadilla with the spinach salad on the side and a mint hibiscus tea. The food was pretty good. The tea tasted like it had been sitting for awhile. It had that after taste. But I would try that again at a later date. If you have time to kill this is the place for you. We had a party of 4. The service was friendly but was very very very slow. We were there on a Sunday evening and it wasn't busy at all. I am going to guess we were probably in there for at least 2 hours and that was mostly waiting for someone to take our order, serve our food and waiting for the check. The temp seemed to be very warm in there also. Either they had an a/c problem or that is just the way they keep it. There was a ceiling fan but it was not on. This was after a high of 100 degrees in the city that day. Food was good didn't get to try the appetizers. I probably won't go back due to the long wait but my son and daughter in law love it and go frequently.
