The Best!!

By Compass811923 |

We stopped for lunch on a Saturday with my family. We ended up getting the 5 meat choose platter. My husband and I shared one order and we had left overs. The pork ribs are some of the best I have ever had. The turkey melted in your mouth. We also got the nacho fries, which I would also recommend.

Gorgeous view and good food

By Penny T |

Come hungry. We recommend the sausage plate, ribs, and the peach cobbler. This would be a great place to bring family for a special meal (but not fancy), as the view of hill country is incredible.

We ordered take out but the ambience was fun to stay.

By Kim G |

The food was delicious! We had brisket, pork and salmon. All were superb. We walked in and asked to order take out and the staff could no have been more helpful and pleasant. The portions were generous. Food was very well packaged for take out. Highly recommend.

Very good view

By Nancy B |

This visit was on January 2018. We ordered a combo with 2 meats, potato salad, beans served with bread. The taste was just ok, not very good, but I really enjoyed the cheese cake with chocolate, and the view which is overlooking the beautiful lake. The service was good. Don't leave without trying or buying their homemade bread. In our first visit, the lake is teaming with fish and turtles feeding on bread thrown away by the customers, however when we comeback, it was cold, and the turtles are hiding but there were 3 beautiful white swans at the lake.

Good food ,Beautiful setting

By Jan |

We ate here as a central place for a group friends to celebrate July birthdays. We have been here several times. The food is always delicious and servings more than adequate. Always need to go containers. Jensen was friendly and attentive and patient with 8 70 year olds. What a fun time we had! We were able to sit at a table so we could view the spectacular scenery. There is a large picture frame on the patio where you can take pictures.

BBQ Tuesday

By G9737IWbarbarac |

W stopped for BBQ this evening and was a bit disappointed with our meal and service. First we were seated in a great spot to see the sunset but the table itself hadn't been wiped down yet...had water, water marks and one straw left on the table from the prior dinners. After pointing this out to our waiter he had it cleaned by someone else. After ordering our food came out quickly and was just average...we remember it being much better before and served with bread....now there is charge for it. I will admit the bread was very good and the best part of our meal so guess it was worth the price after all. The marble brisket was moist and the chicken was good all in all...just average. Not sure we will return anytime soon.

Lunch Sampler

By Luke G |

Love Austin for the que! Have heard of this place from all my "local" clients. Happened to be by here and went in for lunch. I split the 5 meat sampler with another BBQ enthusiast. Overall pretty average. Pork ribs were the best. The beef rib, brisket, sausage, and turkey were just okay. It felt like a chain where the meat had been sitting out or warmed from hours ago. Finally, like so many places that shine in Austin with the Q, the sides are afterthoughts. The sides were not great. So, it ended up being average BBQ with crummy sides. The service and view are great. Don't go out of your way for this spot. I should have known it was trouble when the first thing recommended was the homemade bread.

Great Ribs Outstanding Views

By InTheKnow22 |

This restaurant is just wonderful due to the ribs being bigger and better than any I've tasted in Texas. The coleslaw is delicious in a creamy white sauce and the potato salad is equally yummy. Order the homemade bread, which tastes like cake. I should have taken a photo of the ribs, they were so massive, but hunger took over and we started eating immediately. The waitress was attentive and we did not wait long for our meal to arrive. I order the pork ribs and they were meaty and well spiced. The view at dusk is lovely and provides a relaxing back drop to fantastic Texan Bar-b-que! A must visit if you travel to Austin.

Roll me out of here!

By Cindy J |

This place remains a go-to location for great BBQ and you absolutely cannot beat the views. Aim for sunset and you will be transported. The food is great and the service is fast and friendly. We had a large group (20+) and our server didn't miss a beat. My fave - the ribs! This was the first place I wanted to eat when I got my braces off years ago, because everyone knows you don't cut the meat off of a rib!! Yummmmmmm!

Great food and sunset location

By shane c |

Great visit here with friends for excellent bbq and lovely evening sunset. Could have sat in this location for hours for view and the food. Great stop well worth it in Austin area.

Good stuff

By Julie W |

County Line BBQ on the Hill is truly an experience for the senses: the smells are amazing, the tastes are even amazinger, and the views are to die for! Try to schedule your meal around sunset for the ultimate romantic dinner. I liked that you can order the brisket lean or fatty, they'll cut it any way you want, and the smoked dark meat chicken was very tasty paired with the coleslaw. I spent most of my meal enjoying the decor inside and the panoramic view outside. Great Hill Country BBQ!

Liked the Happy Hour

By Gary B |

We've dropped into County Line a couple of times for happy hour and have enjoyed it very much. We tried the bbq wings and also the sausage appetizer and found both to be quite tasty. The place fills up on Friday afternoon from nearby office buildings, so get there early. And once it fills up, the table side service is a little slow, but if you walk up to the bar, you'll return quickly with a drink, and can place orders that way also. I would recommend this place for happy hour.

Loved it - still a great choice

By HogsB |

Have been coming to the County Line for 24 years - although haven't been for the last 3 - and the food and service is still excellent. Thoroughly recommend it for anyone visiting Austin. The fillet steak is perfectly cooked every time.

Big servings of good solid Cue in a Casual Setting

By Lou L |

This was very good cue at a reasonable price. It's a cool casual setting to pig-out with friends. The portion sizes are huge. I can really eat, but I could only handle the 3-Meat Combo (brisket, sausage & ribs with slaw & fried okra sides) instead of the 5-Meat or the all you can eat family style Country BBQ. (That looked good but we were not hungry enough to do justice to that.) Get the 2nd-Tier marbled brisket, because the lean brisket (not meant to be) was a bit dry, but still good. The ribs were solid, not incredible... but quite good. But the sausage was unbelievable! (I am not usually a big sausage fan, but in Texas... sausage is always on a different level, and this one nailed it.) And it is almost impossible, but save some room for the home-made ice cream or cobbler ala mode. We had the peach and blackberry cobbler. Both rocked it.

Always a great experience

By Amanda D |

We often come here when we’re in ATX. We enjoy the customer service, atmosphere and of course the great bbq. This visit we came just over an hour before they closed but they still had everything fresh and hot off the menu. We will be back.

Best BBQ and View in Austin

By RKC2406 |

This is great for the family or for a romantic dinner for 2. Some of the best HILL Country views available. The brisket is my choice and the sauce is to die for. Our waiter was great. You better be hungry because the portions are huge. You have to leave room for the blackberry cobbler topped with vanilla ice cream. Start you diet on Monday.

Good atmosphere, sausages and chicken

By Peter S |

Second time we have been to Austin the other BBQ to compare it to was Salt Lick. Both were good, no waiting at County Line compared to 3 hours at Salt Lick. Salt Lick had better brisket, County Line had better Sausage. Sides and desserts were comparable. Service at both was good and friendly.

Best barbeque always

By Melissa B |

I hadn't been to Country Line is a long time and as usual I walked away a happy camper. The ribs as usual were awesome, the brisket tender and flavorful, the sausage was great for leftovers and the sides were the best! Next time I'm back in town, I will return. Staff is great!

Best Beef Ribs in Texas

By David C |

When I want great BBQ, especially when I want the greatest beef ribs I have ever had, I visit the County Line (on the Hill or the Lake) in Austin Texas. They have 2 beef rib plates. I'm a pretty big guy and I just get the regular beef ribs plate since it has 4 large beef ribs and it really fills me up. They have a larger beef rib plate (I think 6 to 7 large beef ribs) in case you feel you need more than 4 large ribs or want to share between 2 or 3 people. The other BBQ is great as well.

Love County Line's Baby Back Pork Ribs

By BDCornell |

My husband and I ordered a full rack of baby back pork ribs to split. They were delicious as usual. Smokey and tender ribs served with their delicious BBQ sauce is our favorite entree to order. We decided on cole slaw as a side.Yum! Not too sweet. It has just the right amount of tanginess. It is chopped chunky the way I like it too. We also ordered the delicious bread served with honey butter. It is the best! We were served more food than we could eat so we took some home to enjoy the next day as well. Thank you for a great meal County Line. The service was good and the food was served quickly.

Best BBQ in Town

By Linda K |

When the waiter brought out a basket of 2” wide homemade bread, we just stared at it in disbelief! Omg, it was warm and so delicious. I ordered the 2 meat plate. The BBQ Chicken was tender and wonderful! Potato Salad was based in mayo and delicious. The Sliced Beef made a great sandwich on the homemade bread! Did I mention the view? Sits on top of a hill on Bee Caves, the back has beautiful view of the hill country if you sit on the patio or by the windows that go across the whole back of the restaurant! Made for a great lunch with friends!!!

BBQ dinner

By Kenny F |

Enjoyed great BBQ at the bar. Some colleagues had recommended the restaurant. I enjoyed a sampler platter of beef ribs, pulled pork, and smoked brisket. The beef rib was amazing. The bar tender offered two kinds of bbq sauce. One smoky and one spicy. They were both very good. I would have bought the sauce if it were for sale. Nothing fancy about the place. Just great bbq and great service. A must visit when staying at the Barton Creek resort. Hotel provides transportation to and from the restaurant.

Great Place With Good Food and Friendly Service

By Jeanie J |

It is a great place to stop for good drinks, good food and great view! We really enjoyed it. We had a three meat selection with pulled pork, sausage and peppered turkey and they were all great. The sunset was lovely and the bartenders were very friendly and attentive.

Underwhelmed

By philip10763 |

The BBQ is adequate. There is much better throughout the area, but this comes with a view. The total package otherwise warrants 3 stars except for the inability to honor reservations. Why did the restaurant accept a reservation for this evening (which they admit) only to say on my arrival that it decided to go first-come-first-served today? If you are too busy for my business, say so. Don't make a bogus reservation that leaves me waiting the better part of an hour.

Yummy Texan BBQ

By boymomdfw |

Got County Line for a party we were having. It was delicious! We have been to County line many times. This did not disappoint. Very good.

Great Barbecue!

By Jake S |

My wife and I had dinner here with my oldest friend and his wife. We were visiting for a UT NROTC alumni weekend. We live in Alexandria VA and cannot find any good BEEF barbecue there; especially we can never find beef ribs. I order the three rib dinner at County Line and I can best describe what I received as a partial rack of dinosaur----SO HAPPY! I had Mac & Cheese and coleslaw for sides. I could not finish dinner so I took a rib home. We love this place. Great outside dining. Friendly wait staff. Food is always good. The view from the dining area outside is awesome over the Hill Country.

Mixed experience

By Jeffcornwall |

Chose this restaurant due to reviews at Trip Advisor. Amazing view at sunset! Food was very good. After waiting 15 minutes, had to ask to be served. Otherwise a “4”.

Worth the 220+mile drive!

By Joel K |

Yes, it really is a drive of over 220 miles (round-trip) from our house to this restaurant, but we think it is worth it. We have been coming to the County Line on the Hill for nearly 20 years for their fork-tender brisket, turkey, and chicken. The sauce is also very tasty. We joke that it is much better for our wallets and our waistlines that it is such a long drive. It makes a special meal. Over the course of nearly two decades of patronage, we have occasionally had less-than-stellar service or food. We chalk it up to "the law of averages." However, I have to say these are the (very rare!) exceptions and not the rule, and nothing was so bad as to make us want to take our business elsewhere. The County Line is a regional chain (2 locations in Austin, 2 locations in San Antonio, and one or two others). (We also like the San Antonio place on I-10 W in the northwest part of town.) Some folks swear that getting good 'cue from a chain is impossible. Well, good 'cue is good 'cue no matter where it comes from, and County Line is consistently excellent! My wife and I both like the extra lean brisket (it is usually sooo tender you can cut it with a fork), she also really likes the chicken while I am partial to the peppered turkey. Most sides are standard fare, (the fries are generally good and crisp), but the "homemade" bread is very, very good and deserves special mention. Like most BBQ joints, you go for the meat (and sauce), and most everything else is secondary. Let me also say that Austin is growing by leaps and bounds, and the beautiful view from the back patio is being diminished by more and more condos, but as the sun sets over the Texas Hill Country, it is still a beautiful sight. We'll be back!

Biggest & Best beef ribs in Texas

By Regina B |

No beef ribs compare. My favorite bbq ribs & have been consistently great for 30 years that I’ve gone to “the hill.” Potato salad is awesome, homemade bread is so good... everything is mouth watering. All of the bbq is moist, and very high quality from brisket to chicken, sausage to steaks. It’s all good! Can’t say enough about County line quality and taste... The sunset over the Texas hill country isn’t too shabby either.

Excellent as it always has been

By Arnold_Ziffel |

I’ve been dining with this place since 1983, and they keep me coming back, even though I don’t live anywhere near here. I’ve never been served anything that had to be returned to the kitchen, but most of why people come here is the view of West Austin. This is the first place I have noticed that offers beef, rather than pork ribs. And, they were as delicious as one might expect. Their okra came right out of the freezer, but it was very good. I also had a dinner salad, and can only suggest they should serve that before the meal, rather than all at once. I bought a Michael-Bob beer which was reasonably priced. I’ve never tried a dessert as their portioning is so huge there’s no way I could eat any more. The same brand has another store in town here which doesn’t have the view. I can’t comment on something I’ve not tried myself. The view after dark is far more tasty than during the daytime. I’d recommend this place to anyone. They are moderately expensive, but their cuisine is always expensive. I’ll be back if I don’t fall over dead before I can get back.

Not fancy but really tasty

By Brenda R |

We wanted some real Texas BBQ, and we found it here! We were seated right away and our waiter was very helpful and friendly. The food was delicious and the portions were just right.

Good Pork short ribs

By AspenJimbob |

It is at 6500 Bee Caves Rd. It is just west of hwy 360, or Capital of TX parkway. Phone 512-327-1742. Going west, it is on the right, and easy to see the sign. Going east it is on your left, and there is only one small sign before you get there, and really easy to pass up.The 4 of us ended up all ordering the short ribs ($10.99 I believe) off the appetizers on the menu. We got sides of slaw, potato salad, mac and cheese ($2.49 ea), and one more. The ribs were very good, and more than enough for one person. The potato salad was good, but not exceptional. The creamiy slaw was ok tasting, but cut up in bigger pieces, averaging 1-2 sq in. The drinks ran up the bill quite a bit, but we had a good time and enjoyed ourselves.

Go for the view. Stay for the barbecue

By Journey672446 |

Consistently always really really good barbecue. Portions are ample. They are one of the Texas places that you will return to again and again though the years.

try the bread

By spinman15 |

I would take the spare ribs over the brisket. The burger was good. Nice big portions. The wheat bread was excellent.

Love coming here

By RT89 |

We discovered County Line on the Lake a few years ago & liked the food, but since we are now Weight Watchers the sides were a problem for us. County Line on the Hill seems to have healthier option including a very good mixed green salad with a Smoked Pecan Vinaigrette. We really like the smoked turkey & hubby likes the lean brisket. Sauces are okay, but I prefer to not use them. The view from the patio is beautiful, so if it's nice outside take advantage. We've always had great service no matter who our waitperson is. Nice relaxing place for lunch or dinner.

Tasty and Fun

By baycityart |

We arrived in time for a beautiful sunset. Don't miss it. The BBQ is quite tasty. I like the pork ribs the best but other diners savored brisket, turkey, etc. A fun place with excellent service.

Good brisket, sausage, potato salad and cole slaw

By M J |

My husband and I had lunch at the County Line on the Hill with several other people. We ordered brisket, sausage, turkey, potato salad, beans and cole slaw. We did not care much for the beans and the turkey was just ok. Everything was great. There were no many people in the restaurant so it was quieter than our last visit two years ago. Our service was better than our last visit as well.

Oh So Much Meat

By Edikochan |

I went with two other women and we order the 5 meat family style dinner. It was delicious. Everything was delicious. We left fully satisfied that we had an Austin BBQ experience.

Delicious

By Margaret C |

The view was spectacular and the food was delicious! I had the chicken which was good and moist. My husband had the brisket and sausage. We were very satisfied. For dessert we loved the bread pudding with ice cream!

Wedding reception on the patio.

By NOLASIA |

Nice views at sunset but how's the food? Very tasty, even for a party of 45. Although not the hottest temperature the flavor was superb. Everyone had a selection of meats including brisket, ribs, chicken and sausage. All were good. Sides and cobbler looked good, but no room!

Fantastic view and atmosphere, superb BBQ

By TopDogTravels |

Very nice place to eat just after sunset. The patio is lovely, the atmosphere is family friendly, and the BBQ is mouth-watering. Highly recommend.

A great spot.

By Jluvah |

I went there with a sales class and the food was great. We had a comfortable private section in the rear and the staff was very attentive. The bartender Taylor was fabulous and she made the drinks just right. I will go back when in Austin.

Super good TX BBQ

By FLGIRL |

Went to the one in San Antonio on the Riverwalk, and now this one. I found them both to be very good. Had the exact meal at both locations. My ribs were meatier at this location, great smoke flavor, and two good sides. I had fries and coleslaw while the other individual had potato salad and coleslaw and enjoyed their two sides too. The view on the hill is quite nice especially sitting either by the window or on the patio. Service is good, food delicious, and atmosphere b/c of the view, is super. $14.99 for lunch 2 meat combo, I felt was worth the price.

Nice Sunset and Great Food

By Cliffco1 |

There was no sunset due to the clouds, but the food was Excellent great menu something for everyone. The ribs can get you messy, but they are SO GOOD. Lots of BBQ places to go to but this place has been around for many many years, and they know what they are doing, even the desert. I am 40 miles from this place, but its worth the trip, every time.

Another visit is necessary.

By Whereto2next |

I had not been to County Line in about 10 years, since I worked at Riverbend. Our waiter for acceptable, but seemed either a bit rushed, or conversely just disappeared a few times. Everyone at our table loved the beef queso. The beef ribs were overcooked, but most everything else was good to go. Prices have definitely gone up, but that is everything these days so that is a hard one to compare to previous prices. All around I think my group would like to return to see if we can get a stellar experience next go round

Great atmosphere, scenery and food

By kbennett14 |

The ribs are exceptional. Also love all of the other meats, coleslaw and potato salad. The sauce is just right.

Cocktails and Beer

By tamjan |

A super spot with a terrific view. So nice to spend time on the deck. We enjoyed all the signature cocktails and the local beers. We also sampled the homemade bread and honey butter

Average BBQ

By M J |

I attended a friend's birthday dinner at the County Line on the Hill in May. The food and service was average. The cost was a little higher than most BBQ restaurants in the Austin area. The restaurant was noisy. The view of the hill country on the patio was nice. I could not see view where we are seated inside. I probably will not return any time soon.

ok bbq, but there is better in austin

By BSL10024 |

We ate here our first night because it was closeby and we were tired. View from outdoor patio is gorgeous, but the ribs were just ok. Bread is fabulous.

Great Bar-B-Que

By Simon P |

Our barbecue at County Line On The Hill was excellent. It offers all the customary barbecue dishes, but prepared their own special way.

Above and Beyond!

By Willy Billy Bo |

You walk in and immediately the wonderful scent of genuine Texas Barbecue immerses you. I was greeted by a happy young man who took me to me seat, which had an excellent view of the Texas Hill Country. Service at my table was efficient, and the food absolutely melted in my mouth. Overall an excellent experience at the County Line on the Hill.

Good Austin bbq

By aaron_mfc |

I have eaten here on my last 3 trips to Austin, this year I felt the quality was slightly lower than before. It's still really good BBQ, just thought it was not as good as previous years. Beef ribs were lacking meat unfortunetly. Handy being near to Barton Creek mall. Always good service.

Hopefully this was just a down day

By TheQueue61 |

First the good- the view from County Line is terrific. We were there at sunset. It was gorgeous. Service - was very good, timely. Now the "Just okay". The food was okay, not great, not terrible, it was okay. I had the 2nd cut brisket, the quarter chicken and beef ribs as party of 3 meat combo. Quantity was fine and seemed to be good value. Brisket was dry. Chicken was dry. Ribs were dry. Flavor was good but dryness didn't leave me thinking this was the area's best bbq.

Embarrassingly bad

By Wrldtrvlr16 |

We came here as a family for dinner. It took us a half hour to get our drinks, and another half hour for the food. My ribs were cold and tough, and our elderly mother could barely get any meat off her pork ribs. One person waiting on all tables outside. This isn’t the first time we had poor food and service and explains why a table of 8 can get in at any time on a Friday night. I have no plans to visit again anytime soon, despite having a great view.

The view is much better than the food

By SandyCooley |

The view is astounding. The food...not so much. I had ribs, which were ok. They came with beans, which I hated, and fries, which were ok. You can get the same view in other locations and much better food almost anywhere.

Great View, Great Drinks and Oh Yeah.....Brisket

By Hank512 |

This is an Iconic Austin hangout. The views from the outside patio are incredible. I had a dolce vita skinney margarita on the rocks. Perfect! not to sweet, not to tart, just the way I like it. I have to say I only rated it 3 stars because it is outstanding brisket. In Austin, outstanding brisket is the norm, and if you deserve 5 stars, you have to really be able to take it out of the park. I love this plate and order it whenever I eat at this location. The cut is tender wth a smokey flavor that matches the smoke ring. The texture is perfect, just chewy and meaty, not overly seasoned but plenty of flavor. The beans are Ranch style. Rather thick, spicy and well done. These are unique, not usually found in other BBQ joints. The coleslaw is not to sweat and is a light mayo based with carrots, red cabbage and onion. I liked the onion, it really provides a kick. Not my favorite slaw, but not bad. The bar service on the patio was a little slow to figure out that it would require more than 1 drink to get us to the sunset. A little more communication was required here. Be Clear if cold drinks are vital to your visit.

For great BBQ come here

By jdk3315 |

Our wedding party had the rehearsal dinner here and it was great. Beautiful views of the hills and Austin and the food was great. Terrific ribs, brisket and the sausage was the best. Just a great place with great service.

Great wings even better view

By sentom26 |

Relaxed venue with terrific view of the Austin hill country. Fantastic chicken wings, great onion rings, great pork ribs. Good margaritas and a really, really great venue. Service is also good.

Reasonably good BBQ but better to be had elsewhere

By wacotom |

We had combinations of sausage, brisket, turkey and ribs. I thought the sausage was very good. The brisket was slightly dry and the turkey was OK to good with the heavy pepper seasoning. The ribs left a lot to be desired. In all cases I found myself adding numerous tablespoons of BBQ sauce as I hate dry meats. The sides with the exception of the mac and cheese was OK. The mac and cheese was not good at all. The thick cut bread with the honey butter was very good. We arrived around 5:45PM on a Monday night and had no wait. The views are great so as people were finishing they congregated on the patio to take selfies with the hill country background. Service was fast and very good. Although I always complain about the cost of BBQ for four people and two babies out bill before tip was $90. I have spent much more in the past. Food quantity was very good.

Delicious bbq

By djlu |

We visited on a Sunday night when many other restaurants are closed. We got seated right away, inside since it was a chilly afternoon. There are no heaters on the patio, but you can see the amazing view from the inside. The BBQ was great, particularly the beef and pork ribs. They offer two sides with the meats, and have all you can eat for those more hardier appetites. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and service and glad we discovered some tasty Texas BBQ before heading home to CA.

Come for the View, enjoy the "Q"

By Paul T |

The BBQ smell starts your senses reeling when you walk in the door. Weather permitting a beverage or dinner outside allows a view of Austin sunset. A trip to the bathroom is a must so you can get a lesson in "talkin' Texas..

Brisket heaven, with ribs and sausage too!

By Itinerant_scholar |

In a city that abounds in excellent BBQ, County Line faces a great deal of competition. But for my money it's head-and-shoulders above all the rest, or very nearly so. Madame and I, along with our son, daughter-in-law, and two of the young grandcritters spent an delightful evening out on the terrace there, on a warm and sunny Wednesday evening recently, and had a terrific time. The food is great -- I like Salt Lick, Green Mesquite, and several other places a lot, but County Line beat them all on that night. Madame and I had two-meat plates -- ribs and briskets -- and we all shared a sausage starter. Chicken tenders for the kids, a half-rack of baby back ribs for their mother, and a gargantuan all-in platter for our son made for a wonderful dinner. The sides -- mac 'n cheese, slaw, potato salad, the usual -- were really good, unlike many BBQ joints where they are just throwaway items. Lavish pourings of Cliffhanger sauvignon blanc for us, and a couple of pints of Thirsty Goat for our son, kept the servers busy and us happy. A Texas-sized serving of excellent bread pudding -- big enough to share five ways, as I recall -- was the finale. Out on the covered terrace, even on a hot night, things were quite comfortable; there are fans all over and this particular night was maybe a couple of degrees cooler than what we'd been seeing. The view out over far west Austin is terrific -- as the name suggests, the restaurant is up on a hillside -- and there was more than enough room for the grandsons to buzz around and raise hell without colliding with anyone or (we hope) annoying anyone at all. Service was quick, friendly, and knowledgeable as well. All the major flavors of plastic are accepted, and there is parking galore in a free lot. On some nights the line of hopeful diners is well out the door, but we were greeted by a large "no wait" sign, which was great to see. There is another County Line establishment in Austin, up north off Ranch Road 2222, called County Line on the Lake; but this one is on the NE side of Bee Cave Road just west of its intersection with Hwy 360 (a.k.a. Capital of Texas Highway). Look for a big red sign on the right, as you round a somewhat tight right-hand curve, and head up the hill; you'll have found yourself a great dinner --

What a wonderful way to end the day!

By Eddie W |

I was in Austin for a conference and my son came up to go to dinner with me. We went to County Line on Bee Cave Road. The first thing you notice is the view--sit on the patio if you can! It is magnificent; they say you can see for 20 miles and I am not about to argue with them! Then our waitress suggested the home made bread as an appetizer. WOW! That was perfect. Then we got a combo plate--too much to eat, but oh so wonderful. The brisket was tender and tasty; the sausage perfect. The sides were good, but after the bread, I concentrated on the meat! I have eaten at County Line before (on the Lake) and was not disappointed. They get my highest rating!

Great BBQ with a great view

By KMH1213 |

My daughter and I split a brisket plate with green beans and corn on the cob. The brisket was moist and flavorful with a perfect smoke ring on it. It didn’t even need the extra sauce in my opinion, but you could certainly get it. The guy that recommended it to us has been going there for 30 years and believes it is the best BBQ in Austin; I believe he could be right. The decor hasn’t been updated in probably 30 years but that adds to the ambiance. Once you step out onto the back patio you will see a spectacular view from on top of the hill that the restaurant sits.

Delicious come hungry

By smlkennedy |

We enjoyed a family dinner on a Saturday night here. The food is fantastic. The only problem is trying to decide what to order because it’s all delicious. There’s a great kids menu. The portions are huge. The staff is great. The views are beautiful.

Real BBQ in the Hill Country

By Ken S |

This location of the County Line Restaurant is situated on a hill and the backyard has a great view of sunset. They have some of the best BBQ I've ever had. Side dishes are also perfect. This place has an authentic cowboy feel to it and their workers treat you like family.

OK brisket

By Shudgon2Blacks |

I went for lunch because this was my favorite place 30 years ago when the County Line was the best, and only barbecue place near me. The atmosphere, service, and bread were great. The sausage was good and the brisket was OK. The green beans smelled off, like they had some rancid grease in them. The coleslaw was good and slightly sweet. The fried okra was excellent. The portions were good for lunch. I will not go back because there are too many choices for really great barbecue.

Great food and service

Went there to meet my daughters friends from college. This was a very deaf friendly environment. May have something to do with the Texas School for the Deaf being in Austin. Could also be the great Texas hospitality I've seen every time I'm in Texas. The prices were on a par with most quality Steak or Barbeque restaurants. The beer was cold and the mixed drinks were strong. The Sausage Platter I ordered had enough food for 2 adults at a good price. The potato salad was excellent and the cole slaw was good. It was to cold to sit on the the patio and eat. I did check it out and it looked great and so did the view.H ighly recommend

Excellent choice

By mckimw |

We were a very large party here (100+) on St. Patrick’s Day, as part of a “Meet & Greet” associated with a wedding. The folks here were incredibly friendly and accommodating. The view is spectacular. The decor is appropriately country, in fact they even have a little CD on “How to speak Cowboy” that is pretty humorous running in the restrooms. The view is expansive. The food: We were served up platters of brisket, sausage and bbq chicken. All were exceptionally good but I must highlight the brisket and the sausage. Truly some of the best! I highly recommend County Line on the Hill. Great for groups small or large. You’ll be glad you went and fixin to return.

The best sausage I have ever eaten

By mrsslovestotravel |

My husband & I drive down to County Line, 3 hours from our home, just to eat here!! My husband loves their brisket, turkey, well actually everything. I absolutely love their sausage!!! Their service is sometimes slow, but their food makes up for it!! I can not recommend this place enough, so delicious. Just FYI, their portion sizes are really big!! Happy Eating!!

Disappointing brisket

By Marilyn A |

Asked for fattier portion and it was dry Pulled pork tasted reheated Ribs ok Think riding on its reputation

View all about the hill, food all about down hill

By 77tr1pper |

This landmark has been around a long time and I've eaten here several times over the last 3-4 years. I must say the food has gone down hill every year. This last visit was too much. I've eaten at chain diners with better food. The beef was sopping in sauce and mushy like it had been reheated several times. The ribs were dry and cold - obviously left over from several days. They bring out a little bread loaf like Outback - where's the texas toast or garlic bread??? - the sides are average but might be prepackaged, the brisket was so dry and reheated. Just very disappointing. If you want good TX bar b que, do some research and don't get sucked into a "landmark" but if you want to have drinks and watch a beautiful sunset, this is the place.

County Line served a wonderful dinner.

By mr_larry_smith |

We love the County Line when we want barbecue. Last night’s dinner was wonderful. The location, service, barbecue options and delicious food were all top notch.

Ok BBQ, amazing views

By pickybiz |

BBG was ok with many options aside from the traditional meats. Service was ok... not particularly attentive. The view was breath taking. Ask about the all you can eat option for your group!

Spectacular view

By MrsJuicePlus |

We arrived at the County Line early enough to watch a spectacular sunset over the hills surrounding Austin. We had pork and beef ribs, sausage and brisket along with coleslaw and beans. We had their homemade wheat bread. The cobbler was topped with great ice-cream and was really delicious. A must for the sunset and food

Great Q and a Talking Steer

By Paul J |

Beef Q lovers will be in heaven with large ribs at this beautiful place. Go for the ribs and stay for the sunset, one of the most beautiful views in Austin. Our large party loved the food, the service and the wisecracking steer.

Delicious food on the hill!

By 671perlan |

An amazing place to go eat! The food was delicious. I had the 2 meat combo which was brisket and pulled pork and my sides and delicious sweet tea! Plus this restaurant is on the hill!

Great BBQ and cool location

By ManyBones |

The view of the hill country is beautiful. The food is awesome and the service great. They also have plenty of parking which has become a thing in Austin. The 'Texas speak' playing in the rest rooms is a bit insulting and makes us sound stupid. I doubt I will go back for that reason alone. However if you are not from Texas, you may find it all quite charming that they think we sound like the freaking Clampits.

Beautiful views and good food

By beachbummin777 |

The sunsets are exceptional and the food is good. The sausage is really good 1/2 beef 1/2 pork so that it's not so greasy. The brisket had a fabulous red ring and full of flavor. The sides of pinto beans and potato salad were awesome also. Great place to have a picturesque dinner!

Okay BBQ, Great View

By vancouvergirl |

We were visiting Austin and staying nearby, so we gave it a go. We went early on a week night, so it wasn't busy. The service was prompt and friendly. The house made bread is GREAT and well worth the extra cost. Strawberry Lemonade was really good, but 32 oz. is way too much... My partner had the ribs. I had the 5 meat combo plate. The meat was moist and properly cooked, but it just didn't have any flavour. Portions are really large, which kind of put me off. Side dishes were okay, but nothing special. We were a bit annoyed that even though it was early and not busy, everyone was seated right near us. We found the meal somewhat expensive and were too full to try dessert, which also looked HUGE. There was nothing wrong here, it was just okay.

Golf trip

My husband both got ribs, he got the big daddy beef ribs and I got baby back. They were great! Service was great! We will be back!

Great view and dinner too

By VickiA63 |

This is a lovely respite in Austin along the river. The homemade bread is yummy. We all loved our dinners, however, my ribs were not the best I have ever had. Love having a kids menu. Fun place to eat and relax and enjoy!

BBQ Smoke and Jameson... heaven

By Jensoid |

Interesting how I drive by here daily since it sits secluded next to my office that only recently have I become a regular. With a couple of options available in the work hood, it's becoming a solid choice for an after work whisky drinking place. There is something about the BBQ smokey atmosphere which makes Jameson go down better. I also like how one of the gal bartenders always calls us "Dear" and "Hun".. as in "Can I get you another Dear" "Hey Hun, how ya doing, can I get you a cold one?" The other day, we sat outside after a grueling Friday and took in a great view of the hill country. It was a perfect wind down to the week. I have had lunch a few times here, but unlike everyone in Austin it seems, I am not a BBQ Expert. I also have better things to do with my time than blowing 2 hrs waiting in line for brisket. At my age, every hour of my life is sacred. I think their Q is fine. I like their turkey sammy and the sausage is also a nice way to sip Jameson with.

Right Up There With the Best

By Mike S |

While we were in Austin with some friends, he recommended we go to the County Line for dinner. He'd been there several times for dinner on business trips and said it was really good. I've eaten a lot of BBQ in my day and I have my favorites. Salt Lick is at the top and right behind are big names (Coopers, the original Lockhart Smokehouse) and small (Hurtados comes to mind). But I have say that Jim nailed it. This was some excellent BBQ. It was so good that I was sorry we had to go to a wedding the next night because I wanted to go back for dinner then too! Seriously, everything was excellent. Even the sides were notably a cut above other places. And the view at sunset from the back porch as breathtaking. (See the pictures I posted.) The sausage had some kick but not so much that it overpowered the flavor of the meat. We had leftovers and I brought it home for my dad who's 95 and used to travel all over Texas for a living. He's eaten BBQ from Dalhart to Brownsville and from El Paso to Texarkana and every place in between. He loved the sausage. I wish he was up to a trip because I'd take him there just for lunch. (And it would be a 4 hour trip for us one way!). I had never heard of "2nd Cut Brisket" but it's essentially what other places call "moist" brisket (as opposed to "lean" brisket) except that in most places, moist brisket has a lot of fat on it. Not here. There wasn't any extra fat but the brisket was juicy and delicious. I also had a beef rib. It was good but not as much meat as I was expecting. I think that's only thing I'd pass on the next time I go (and there will be a next time). For the sides I chose the green beans and vegetable of the day which was jalapeno blackeyed peas. I wasn't expecting much from either except for some decent vegetables (because who goes to a BBQ place for vegetables, right?). Well, was I wrong. Both of these were incredibly good. So much flavor! Ok, they did have some bacon bits in them but even so, there was more to it that that. The seasoning was on point and both were easily the best version of what they were that I have ever eaten! Everyone else loved their food. Our waiter was great. And for BBQ, it wasn't overpriced either. This is one of the few places I've been that I will actually go out of my way to go to again. It was that good!

Delicious BBQ and Spectacular View

By Shelley W |

This restaurant has two locations. I imagine the food and service are similar at both locations but we choose this one for the amazing view. It is so relaxing to sit here enjoying scrumptious BBQ and looking out over the landscape. Food was delicious. I had a 3 meat combo and particularly enjoyed the pulled pork and the lean brisket. The pulled beef was fatty and it's hard to pick that out when it is disguised by sauce so it wasn't my favorite. The potato salad was very good too. Good service, more like a nice restaurant rather than a casual BBQ joint.

Bbq food with a view

By paul h |

My son took us here to experience Texas bbq food. We ate on the terrace which has a lovely view. This was our first experience of Texan portions. Silly us. When it says a side salad, you get a large plate of salad, bread is a huge portion of rye bread. We chose marbled brisket and pulled pork. Both were delicious but far too much, to my shame I left some. We were offered a doggy bag but we were so full couldn't face it. The young lady who served us could not have been more pleasant. Our first experience , hopefully not our last.

Large party

By Julie H |

Our large group (around 20+) was a mix of people from all over. Our class instructor this week recommended the place so we loaded up and headed there for dinner. We had great service and great food. The Texas language class in the restroom was fun. The cow talking brought smiles to our faces. We enjoyed the view, food and service. The waitress was very professional and did great with our orders and keeping our drinks full. I would recommend this place and if I'm ever this way again will be coming back.

Great sunset view for happy hour

By bjt467 |

If you are looking for a great venue for a sunset and happy hour in West Austin this is the place. The food is good and the atmosphere is great. Make sure you have the long horn tell jokes. The bathrooms have Texas language lessons.

Not a great pick

By C W |

Great views. Friendly staff. Food was bland and basic. Not what I expect from Texas barbeque. Not much restaurant competition in the are.

OMG! Texas BBQ at it's best!

By Samuel F |

Don't let the outdated decor fool you! It adds charm and personality. The food is crazy good! I'm a Michigander and have had Texas BBQ everyday for a week. This place was the best! Brisket was perfect. Peppered Turkey was amazing. Baked Beans... out of this world. Go here, eat, enjoy, you will NOT be sorry you did!

Good, but a bit overrated.

By David W |

Visiting Austin, took the family to County Line, based on its reputation. Not disappointed, but came away feeling it doesn't quite live up to the reputation. Had marbled brisket and jalapeño sausage. Both good, but not great. BBQ sauce, similar, good but not great. Sides were okay. Breading on fried okra was heavier than my liking. Bread is excellent. Just seems a little over-priced for the amount & quality. I can think of four or five bbq places in Dallas area I prefer.

Texas BBQ at it's Best

By Steve K |

Went here for dinner on Valentine's night and had some of the best Texas BBQ that I've ever had. I ordered the 3 meat platter and had some great brisket, pulled pork, and chicken. The sides were great as well. The staff at this restaurant was fantastic, second only to the view from the back deck. I only wish I was here when it was warmer so that I could have sat outside on the deck.

A great bbq in Austin

By Atef Z |

Have been coming here for years, but today I sat outside on mild sunny springs g day. Your choice of bbq will be done to you liking, great staff, nice atmosphere, a bit of Texas kitsch, but overall a comfortable place with comfort food. Love it, that is why I keep coming back for the last 10 years.

Nice view and good brisket

By okietrout |

Magnificent view if weather nice enough for the patio. The lean brisket was delicious. They need more and better bbq sauces. We had a good and friendly server who gave us a free dessert because the service was slow.

Good times at the County Line

By AUBeachPotato |

We stopped here on the last night of our trip to Austin. We had the smoked wings and a burger, and both were really good. The wings are an app but they can serve as a meal. The view is great and the vibe is just laid back and relaxing. If I’m ever back in Austin, I’m stopping here again.

CozyCountryCottage

By MapleLeafGirl123 |

We had lunch out at the terrace on a November late afternoon weekend. The restaurant was completely full; but we were more than pleased to have our meal outside looking over the Bee Cave neighbourhood. The view was lovely, air was fresh and the food the same. We enjoyed this cozy spot and would come back if we could. The staff were friendly. This is a good place.

Not worth the cost for what you get.......

By Richard E |

Went to eat lunch the other day with a colleague and we both had the three meat plate, two ice teas and ordered home-style bread. Cost for both of us was $49 without tip. The portions were small and the chicken was mostly bone. I could not believe the portion sizes (meat) for what they called a three meat plate ($19). The view here is very nice.

So Glad I Tried This Place

By StackyMaryland |

I couldn't visit Texas without trying some ribs and this place didn't disappoint. I had seen one in San Antonio that looked good so I thought I would try this one when I saw an advertisement for it. I had the appetizer size baby back pork ribs (which was still a lot of ribs) and a side of potato salad (also large) with an Arnold Palmer - really hit the spot. The service was great, the ribs were tender with plenty of sauce, and the potato salad was very tasty. I ate inside but there was a patio area (not sure if it was taking seating) that had a beautiful view of Austin as the restaurant is on the top of a hill. Would definitely eat here again. Also as an aside, this place had a talking steer head (mechanical mouth connected to a microphone that one of the staff could speak through to make it look like the steer was talking). One of the little kids in the restaurant was well entertained with when one of the staff made the steer head talk to him - so cute!

Great BBQ and beautiful view from patio seating.

By Michael Roy K |

Super food and excellent service. We stopped for bar b que and was not disappointed. The brisket was melt in mouth and the ribs were super. The chicken was top notch. After seeing the size of the beef ribs at the neighboring table, I wished I had added one to my meal. The servings were more than enough and we left "stuffed".

Really great views of entire austin area and good food as well

By ajgibb1 |

We stumbled in here by accident--sits up on cliffs with great patio dining. Good food, reasonable prices and good service. Could spend the whole day there sipping cold beer and enjoying the views.

Beef ribs!

By Chad R |

Best beef ribs that I have ever had! Eclectic atmosphere with a great outdoor area. Would definitely visit this location again.

Excellent BBQ & dessert!

By kmtmanoa |

The beef brisket and baby back ribs were excellent. We also enjoyed the bread pudding ala mode (with homemade vanilla ice cream) and pecan pie.

"All you can stand"

By Randy E |

Went with some old friends from Texas. Great vista from the outdoor dining area. Menu speciality was "all you can stand" barbecue and they really mean it. Plate after plate of different meats and sides. Wonderful meal and great attention from staff. Looks like an old dive but one of best barbecue places I've ever visited. And I'm from NC!

Not quite as expected

By dg2014jg |

Overall, the meal and service were very good. I enjoyed having turkey as an alternative meat choice. The turkey was very tender but was, unexpectedly, served cold as were the brisket and sausage my lunchmates had. The setting overlooking the hill country, however, just can't be beat.

There is much better BBQ in Austin

By Gary T |

We met several other couples here for dinner on a Friday night and were disappointed with the food. We both had Brisket and it just simply doesn't compare to Black's, Franklin's, Don's or Rudy's. Service was okay as were the sides.

Maybe my favorite BBQ in Austin

By Malibu93023 |

I love this place. Wonderful hill-top location with an expansive view (& big patios) and very charming interior....sortof old west Texas. Great BBQ. sweet and tangy sauce and delicious sides.

Late lunch on Saturday

By Elizabeth |

Most importantly—- great food. Also, friendly service (thanks, Kelly!), delightful decor and an amazing view of the city from on top of a hill. I bought a cute T-shirt for $18 and took a souvenir photo outside. Bring the whole family, y’all!

BBQ in the air

By Bart M |

When you approach the restaurant, the BBQ sauce scent already catches you. The restaurant is nicely equipped in Western style. The good is nice. Make sure you plan for beef ribs (2nd cut) and the brisket. Really good. The rib was a bit cold unfortunately. The taste was good though.

Great view, great food

By MartinBlank94 |

Title kind of says it all. County Line serves up great food with great views and friendly service. Loved the homemade bread.

Of many BBQ choices, this is still a favorite

By Larry C |

It's a quiet setting with a terrific view. The meats are excellent and the sauce is sweet. You might have a BBQ joint that is more perfect for your palate, but there is no place that is clearly better than the County Line. The all you can eat here is as good as it gets.

Not as good as I remember

By Thomas K |

The service and drinks were fine but the barbecue was a disappointment. Portions were small and brisket was fat. Also menu much smaller than at county line in Westlake. No fries no burgers. Guess my expectations were too high but did not enjoy this as much as last time I was here years ago.

Some Things Never Change - Still A Great Place for Ribs

By Larry W |

A trip to Austin wouldn't work without at least one stop at County Line on the Hill....one of our favorite restaurants for barbecue anywhere in the world -- friendly service, great food and a fun atmosphere.

Just as good as I remembered

By Charles G |

I worked the opening crew in the early 80's in the first San Antonio store and the difference in the flavor between that and other bbq spots was so significant, that I was spoiled. When I found out the tradeshow was going to be in Austin, I started bragging on the food early last year. Thankfully, it met every expectation. All I heard around the table were compliments and a lot of "wow this is good". This is the original location of all the Texas County Line spots. I'd never been to this one, but it was as good as any. If you've never been there, get the family style and include at least the beef ribs, brisket, turkey, and sausage. A half loaf of the homemade bread is also a good start. Our waiter Shawn was fantastic and helped make the dining experience that much better. This is a must eat for me and was far better than the other famous place to the west of it with the two hour wait we had on a Saturday afternoon.

BBQ place with vegetarian options, SOLD!

By Kenny B |

Went to The County Line on the Lake for a work dinner and really enjoyed it, so I wanted to take my husband here to enjoy some good bbq before leaving Austin. Thankfully we tried out a different location the 2nd time. While my husband eats meat I do not, and this location had a lot more vegetarian options to choose from. I know, you are thinking why is a vegetarian going to a bbq place? Well we like BBQ too! Just not bbq meat. He went with the Country all you can eat bbq dinner which he really liked. I went with a Buckaroo BBQ Veggie burger with fries and mac n cheese, sooo good. Especially when you poor a ridiculous amount of their very yummy spicy bbq sauce on it. If you are a vegetarian but need to entertain some meat eaters, this is you place to go.

Convienant- Plentiful plates but average food

By Gary T |

We visited recently since the place is very close to us. Initial service was good and we got a briefing from the server on the appetizers, plates, and meats. We were 4 and settled on two "2 Meat Combo plates", a "3 Meat Combo" plate and a "Brisket Platter". The Brisket was good- moist and plentiful but was covered in a very sweet barbecue sauce. If we return we'll do the sauce on the side, it is quite sweet. The cow ribs were large and favorable but over sauced and a bit dry. The sausage is - well sausage, both my daughter and I found it "OK". The turkey was also moist and arrived w/o the sauce which was nice. With respect to the sides- the beans are really sweet, the black eyed peas are quite delightful with just the right amount of spice, and both the coleslaw and potato salad are mayo based and heavily mayo based at that. It was a bit pricey for average barbecue, but convenient and the service was decent.

Rehearsal Dinner

By rwpm |

We needed to arrange a wedding rehearsal dinner. Being from out of town (and meeting members of our soon to be new extended family for the first time) there was some concern regarding the venue, the food and making certain everything came together. We were fortunate enough to work with Tayler and she was very helpful in making certain we had wonderful evening. Our servers- Grace and Matt, did a fantastic job taking care of our 55 guests. The venue was warm and fun- the food was fantastic- and the service couldn't be beat. Thanks again.

Sunset !

By tamjan |

Oh wow. What a great spot for Sunset in West Lake Hills. Watch this grand scene and enjoy some real Texan barbecue . So happy I stumbled on this place. Cozy atmosphere, great for families, huge portion sizes and pretty at night with the fairy lights !

Good food, wonderful view.

By charlesealyj |

County Line is an Austin institution. It doesn't get the accolades of Franklin Barbecue, and to be honest, its brisket isn't nearly as tender. But it's a very nice restaurant with a wonderful ambience, which Franklins is sorely lacking.

First Class, from Start to Finish

By Ron H |

Since we were coming from out of town, we called for information. We were greeted on the telephone by a friendly voice that seemed happy to answer our questions. On arrival we were seated by the window with a spectacular view. Our server, Smith, (cool first name) took great care of us and turned a Happy Hour / Dinner into a Fun afternoon. Food was excellent and we are looking forward to a return trip.

Great food, great views. It's Texas Ya'll!

By B J |

We've been visiting this location for over 20 years and it always brings back wonderful memories. The brisket is ALWAYS so good and if you like bread, don't miss ordering a loaf! Enjoy!!

Good BBQ in Austin

By wilm1 |

Had dinner there as part of a large group, some locals, some visitors. Great atmosphere and vibe. Texas-friendly staff. Ample portions, good bbq and sides, family-style. Preferred the brisket to the sausage and chicken/turkey. Worth a trip just for the experience.

Some good/some disappointing

By Clif S |

Nine of us ate outside here on a beautiful Texas Friday night and enjoyed the experience even if some of the food was disappointing. The good: service, the view, the prices, the appetizers (sausage and fried cheese bites) and the banana pudding. The disappointing: the bbq. I tried pulled pork, ribs and turkey. Just not my taste I guess. Having eaten at dozens of bbq places, this one missed the mark for me. Would only return for drinks.

After coming here for decades, we still love the whole experience!

By SMellum |

The service is always great, and so is the food and drinks. Their side dishes of potato salad and coleslaw are just the best! We love the views off the patio, but I think the lodge itself is very cozy and authentic.

Very Good BBQ

By Alaska23_Family |

My wife and I eat dinner there with friends last night. It was rather crowded - as one might expect on a Saturday night. Service wasn’t the fastest we have ever experienced, but the food was excellent. My ‘full rack’ of ribs were delicious. My wife and our friends had the ‘2 meat’ meal and also raves about their meals. The fresh baked bread was great too. Would eat here again when back in the Austin area.

Are these the best ribs?

By Jerry G |

Three of us had dinner on May 25, including a friend from California. He wanted to try beef ribs. He order the beef ribs and two sides. My date for the night had turkey and two sides. My usual is a full rack of baby back ribs along with the garlic mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. The pork BBQ sauce makes the baby back perfect. We all agreed these were excellent ribs and are highly recommended. Service was friendly and professional. Food was served on time and hot. We will return and will order ribs

Great food, great view!

By dinerone1 |

Start with their homemade bread and then order anything else on the menu...you won’t be disappointed. The Massive beef ribs are especially good. I️ was impressed with the variety of side dishes. We ordered fried okra, beans, potato salad, onion rings, coleslaw and smashed potatoes. (2 meats and 2 sides are included in their light meal.) My leftover brisket made a great sandwich the next day.!

Great food with a great view!

By Odette B |

County line has a great reputation for a reason. Their honey bread is the best! Their bar-b-que and steaks are awesome! And you get a great view to boot! Service was okay and not super. That is why I took away a point. But that is hit or miss, depending on who your waiter/waitress is. Great restaurant for couples, family, or business meetings.

As Good As It Ever Was

By TexasTandE |

We ate like total pigs and enjoyed every single bite. I had lean brisket and sausage with potato salad and beans. Seriously good and amazing food. Drinks were wonderful as well as the service and view.

Great views and food

By EVolFan |

Went there with my wife on a recent trip to Austin. They don't take reservations and a large group seated in front of us created a wait list, so we chose to sit at the bar. Because of the way the bar was designed, we had the same great views of the Austin hillside as the diners on the patio. Great cocktails menu and the food was excellent with great service from the bartenders. Highly recommended!

Quick lunch !

By Bobby G |

Grabbed a quick bbq brisket sandwich great food with an Amazing view. It’s a must visit recommend sitting on the patio for the view.

Great BBQ, Good Location

By Jeff7520 |

Had to find a BBQ restaurant in Austin since we were passing through. I chose this restaurant based on the reviews and the location overall it didn't disappoint. The BBQ was very good, but maybe not quite 5-star good. Location is also nice being in the Hill Country. I wish we weren't on a long drive and could have downed a couple beers to go with the food.

great venue......even better food

By Timezone Travelers |

Had a great meal and event here. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the location. The food was equally excellent.

Awesome BBQ lunch !

By John T |

Delicious lunch, huge portions, you won’t leave hungry! Best bbq in area, beautiful setting, gorgeous views excellent food! If you go for lunch , order off the lunch menu , it’s plenty of food for the hungriest appetites!

Good Food! Great View!

By Ryanphllp |

Had lunch at County Line this week and really enjoyed it. This location has great view and really good food. The bread is not be missed especially with the honey butter! I recommend that anyone who comes here get the ribs. There are other BBQ places in Austin that have better brisket, but the Ribs at County Line shouldn't be missed.

Best place for beef ribs

By hcaplan13 |

we always go to County Line when we are visiting Austin. since we can't get them at home, this is our go to place. Never disappointed. worth the trip for succulent beef ribs.

Good meat

By 704edl |

We ate in mid-afternoon on a Saturday and found the restaurant mostly empty, which was convenient. Everyone enjoyed the meats. The sauce was a bit different from what we normally (on our Kansas City bbq). Fries and beans were unimpressive. I had a side salad, which was good. The server was pretty slow.

BBQ with a view

By ronaround74 |

I came here solo on a Saturday just ahead of the lunch rush and was seated promptly. My server Jimmy was very attentive, and happily answered my questions about the menu. I got a combo "lite plate" with pulled pork and second cut brisket, along with fries and a side salad. My meal was excellent. I thought the brisket was just slightly bland but once paired with the accompanying sauce it was very tasty. On my way out I stepped onto the back patio to take some photos of the Texas hill country. It was a clear sunny day so the view was gorgeous. Overall I had a very nice experience at County Line and would definitely consider a return visit the next time I'm in town!

County Line visit

By mattinsonjr |

Food was very good. Service was very good. Two of us had 1/2 rack of very good BBQ baby back ribs. One had a two plate combo and one had a three plate combo. Each came with 2 sides. Bread was also very good. Definitely will go back.

Dinner for Eight following Golf

By rmwalters |

Just what the doctor ordered for a party of eight golfers hunting libations and BBQ after a long day on the course. Conveniently located a short drive from Barton Hills Resort, the seating both inside and outside is excellent, but try to sit outside if the weather is decent. Wide variety of BBQ, all of which is very good.

Rehearsal dinner fun.

By James K |

We enjoyed County Line on the Hill for a wedding rehearsal dinner with a group of over 100. The view from the restaurant is amazing, including great sunsets. Food is served family style. Every dish was excellent. Beef ribs, brisket, sausage, chicken; and, peppered turkey were served with coleslaw, beans, potato salad, and amazing bread. The turkey was our favorite. Dessert of peach cobbler with ice cream completed the feast. Highly recommended.

No better BBQ or Service

By Sugar1Austin |

Don’t wait in line for inferior BBQ with lousy service, go to the best in Austin, the original County Line on the Hill! Best service and the St Louis Ribs are to die for, all fresh and homemade sides, and the bread-puddin’ for dessert with a big ol’ scoop of vanilla bean ice cream in top—WOW!!!!!!

Food almost as good as sunset.

By ccrizal |

Had a fabulous meal with an unbelievable sunset. Price was amazing too. The outdoor seating was incredible on a beautiful night. Pay for the bread, it was fabulous.

Great View and Great Food!

By Jo Ann R |

Although I do not eat beef or pork, there are plenty of choices to select from like the chicken and the turkey. The chicken is extremely delicious but my favorite is the Salad with Turkey and their Pecan Vinaigrette Dressing. My husband and daughter both have had the brisket and sausage and loved it. So, in other words, everything is very good and especially delicious.

Definitely yummy!

By Tjshade |

I was here with a large group. We had BBQ served family style. What was really great about this was that you got to try everything. There was chicken, ribs, turkey, brisket and sausage. The bread was so good--soft and a bit sweet. There is a beautiful view of Austin out the back as well. Definitely great food.

It was good

By Doug S |

Went for dinner and had the Smoked Peppered Turkey Breast sandwich, which came with a side of fries and a cup of beans. The turkey was very tender and had a great smokey flavor. The beans were served hot (temperature) and also had a great flavor, not to tangy or heavy barbeque flavor, just the right taste. The menu said the sandwich came with a heap of fries; I would not have called that a heap. I've had larger amounts of fries, I've had less. But to me, this was not a "heap." The fries were not too hot (temperature), but a little more than warm. I added salt to them but I really couldn't tell. They were just okay.

Manager came through!!!

We had a large wedding party with reservations and there was a slight mixup. When the manager realized we were serious about wanting to sit everyone on the patio, he made it happen! Very good service and we were all pleased with the food. I had the St. Louis pork ribs and they fell off the bone into the most wonderful sauce I think I have ever had. The manager even gave me a complementary bottle of the sauce. The view is to die for and we will definitely be back!!!!💥💥💥💥💥

Not ready for lunch

By MMOost |

Was disappointed after so looking forward to our visit. Had been here many years ago on a business trip and have been wanting to go back ever since... unfortunately sometimes things are best left to memories. We went on a Tuesday for lunch, got there shortly after they opened. I am convinced the food was from the night before. The brisket was dry and hard. The pork ribs on the 3 meat combo were dry and w/little meat, while the ribs ordered on the lunch plate were better. Sausages were good (yes, these were form the day), but overall this was a disappointment. I would not go back...there are plenty of better bbq places in Austin that do not live on their reputation alone.

In my mind tied for 1st place in Austin!!! It is that good!!

I love BBQ. Eaten it all over the world and Texas is the epicenter! While I find nothing that beats Hard 8 BBQ in Stephenville, this place is tied for second in the state and 1st in Austin. It’s great and the view outside is unmatched during patio season. If you are Downtown, Black’s BBQ. If you want ambiance this place is superior. I’d suggest skipping the much hyped “Frank&@/“ BBQ. Standing in line to maybe get fed is silly yuppie stuff. They have good food and sides, but brisket at Black’s is perfect. Lean brisket at County Line was unmatched for brisket without excess fat cap. The pork and sausage were all terrific.

Great bbq!

Great BBQ and Good Atmosphere

County Line on the hill has not been listed at the top of Austin's BBQ places, but it is hard to beat. It is on the Southwest side of Austin and away from heavy traffic and in town parking issues. The view from the back patio is beautiful, and it is a good place to sit in decent weather. We had the beef ribs dinner. Cooked well and great flavor. Had to take a go box and we had them the next night for dinner at home. Service friendly and fairly quick in light of the crowded dining room. Did not have a long wait for a table. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Consistently Good

I took my wife here on our first date years ago. She impressed my by digging into a plate of beef ribs. I always get the ribs! They are fantastic! We go every chance we get.

Great Barbecue with a Great View

This is one of my favorite spots in Austin for good barbecue! Their menu definitely has something for everyone, so if you're not into the brisket thing their menu has enough a variety to please anyone. The best part is the view; if you get up there on a day that's not in the 90's or 100's, their outdoor patio on the back is a great place to enjoy your dinner. Wait staff has always been very pleasant, prompt, and professional, and I've never had to wait any extended period of a time for a table.

Marvellous BBQ

When in Austin, one has to try BBQ. And to be honest, can't think of much better place than this restaurant. Lovely view for Texan countryside, great staff and brilliant authentic BBQ food. We ate a combo of 5 different meats plus a a variety of sides and drank it all down with a pitcher full of local IPA. Almost perfect!

excellent meat, excellent view

Both County Line on the Hill and on the Lake are excellent places to eat good Texas barbecue. I prefer the sausage, but the beef ribs are always good too. Start with a margarita.

Beautiful view

Very good BBQ place with an even better view. We had an awesome first BBQ experience (in Austin) here. Good service, good meat!

Good BBQ, amazing view!

Nice drive from Austin. We had a good dinner: ribs, brisket and sausage but the real draw here is the view. It is amazing. We finished dinner by sharing the bread pudding. It was more than enough for the two of us and, even though I don't typically care for bread pudding, it was very good. All in all, a nice dinner for our last evening in Austin.

Top of my list!!

A friend told us to go here for the view and the food. I still can't decide which was better but the sunset was gorgeous!!! Server was super friendly/helpful. Bbq was amazing, super cute place. Highly recommend! It is high on the hill with great views.

We are big fans of county line on 2222 in Austin. We went to the county line on 2244 near Barton Springs Resort today. Hugely disappointed with the food. It was dry and tasteless. The manager took the food off the bill and our server, Brendan, was excellent. Won't be going back to this county line anytime soon if at all.

We walked out

What has happened to the County Line, where we had dined happily many, many times. They must be having staffing problems. We were seated indoors and waited 15 minutes without service. So after noticing that there were scores of empty tables outdoors we asked at the desk if we could sit outside. We could if we waited 1 hour! An hour? No. We left.

Great Texas Barbecue

I had the beef ribs. Hugh ribs. The potato salad was very good. Husband enjoyed smoked turkey and lean brisket. They offer marbled brisket for those that prefer it.

Fun atmosphere, good food

We ate here on a Sunday evening when we were staying at the Omni Barton Creek spa and resort. The food was pretty good and the atmosphere was fun. We heard the staff comment that most people wanted to sit out on the patio that evening so we did not because it was full. There was not really a view from the patio anyway because of all the hedges. We sat inside looking out the window, which was good and not hot. The food was similar to other barbecue we have had, not the best ever but really good. I have to say the sweet tea seemed like it was old and not too good. Our waitress was in a lively conversation with the mother and college aged son sitting next to us literally the entire time we were there. Not sure if she was trying to pick him up or what! All in all we had a great experience here and it was pretty much what we were looking for that evening.

very disappointing

By Bellabug66 |

out of state travelers looking for good bbq and came here based on others reviews. It was not good. I ordered the brisket and pulled pork and was flabergasted to find out they only had 1 kind of sauce???!!! What!!? I am not a vinegar fan! My partner got the chicken which was VERY dry and had no flavor :-( The side dishes of MACNCheese were runny and I dont think there was any cheese in it! The Positives: The VIEW! It was amazing!!! service was just ok- We had heard Texas had great BBQ but we didnt find it here.

Best BBQ Ever!

This place has the best ribs, and the bread is delicious! The service is fantastic, and don't miss the talking deer on the wall. Great fun!!!
