Great location and amazing food

By Damien P |

The location of the cove house is amazing, right up the hill from the cove beach. They have bar stool seating in the main restaurant which was really casual and nice. I got the fish tacos and they were amazing! It’s definitely worth stopping by on the way to or from the cove!

Hostess not so nice, service and food good!

By Tawnyrval |

Arrived on a Saturday afternoon, looking forward to this spot because my cousin absolutely hyped it up. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a cute, near the cove, walking distance to Scripps Park but I am just so disappointed in the hostesses. I assumed who ever greeted us must be the owner’s daughter or too young to be a Maître D because both had high attitudes, probably didn’t want to be at work on a Saturday? We (Three of us) were told it would be about a 20min wait. We noticed 2 seats at the bar to the far right, closer to the inside tables. There was another single bar stool in between 2 couples, we knew before we got an answer from the hostess, we would ask for it but instead she turns around and says; Yes, the bar is open seating (Eye rolling) but you can’t stand at the bar. We just said OK, thanks, please add us on the waitlist then walked over to the bar. Our server Kaitlyn was superb, she was great and took our order without writing it down =) The drinks were delicious and the food came fast, hot and delicious. The reason they are missing 2 stars and I say they are a solid 3.5 is because we finally get a text that our table is ready after 35 mins, as we were getting ready to leave.. (Looking around there were plenty of seats) After walking around checking out the vendors at the park, I needed to use the restroom and thought, oh well I was just here and I should go but again, I was stopped by the Hostess and I just said I needed to use the restroom she seemed annoyed about it (another eyerolling session). The restrooms were not clean, it was hot, humid, stinky because of the temp and lacked décor. A nice place like this should have nice, cool and clean restrooms.

Really good!

Loved our visit! We grabbed some drinks during happy hour—beautifully presented and super tasty. The sashimi tacos were a standout, so fresh and flavorful. Service was top-notch.

Breakfast with view

Sweet Venue

By 2again |

Our group had brunch/lunch here on a Sunday and we were seated within 30 minutes. You can put your name in and they text you when your table is a available. It’s nice because it allows you to walk around the shopping district or head to the beach while you wait. Service was very good, the menu is varied, the pricing is a little high, but that is expected for a beach town venue. Our group ordered salads, breakfast entrees, lunch entrees and drinks. Everything was tasty. I gave only four stars because we were five people seated in a four person booth. Luckily, we are all slim. We asked for a slightly larger table, but we were told it was reserved. Since you cannot make reservations, that was a little annoying. Someone had a connection. But still, I would return to this cute cottage restaurant.

Average little restaurant

By ChB |

Were went there with teh family after a long walk in La Jolla. The reception at this restaurant was instantly aggressive. Please wait here we will be with you shortly. The whole restaurant was barely seated but this attitude was apparently necessary. Then a waitress took over and we could sit wherever we wanted. The drinks were taken and then the main order was taken. Nothing special. The menu is mainly Mexican, the menu is based upon Mexican sauces. The service is very friendly and preventive. The menu is however not very surprising.

Good Food and Nice Patio

By Chris |

My family and I visited The Cove House for lunch. Staff was friendly. Food was good and affordable. The patio is a great spot for people watching as well as a good view of the Pacific Ocean.

Amazing food, friendly staff, awesome location!

By Dave N |

Stop what you’re doing and go eat here now! This is the best breakfast I have had anywhere in so long! The hatch chile gravy is incredible. The biscuits could bring tears of joy to your eyes. Trust me. You will leave happy!

GREAT location, fun outdoor seating, awesome vibe (and good food/drinks)

By Stephen R |

Stumbled onto this on way back from beach (partly because on main road) and were super happy to sit outside, have some great food (the salsa verde shrimp were awesome as was the burger) and a beer and just enjoy the afternoon in a very beachy vibe with smiles on almost everyone's face.

We fell in love with Cove House!

By Elleinfl |

Visiting from out of town, we stumbled upon this absolutely adorable place and couldn't resist. The curb appeal alone...wow! Fantastic location - sort of perched up above La Jolla Cove with a fantastic view. Indoor and outdoor seating...we sat indoors (it was misting that day) at the bar overlooking the water...lovely view! The second time we sat outdoors on the deck...loved it! Service was super friendly...probably some of the best service we had on our entire trip! We both had the egg, cheese and bacon sandwiches on sourdough bread...yummmm! We ended up eating the same exact thing on our second visit because they were that good. The ambiance is lovely...indoors and outdoors. HIGHLY recommend Cove House! Side note...please stock those adorable Cove House sweatshirts the staff wears! Too cute not to sell! :)

Perfect place!

The food was phenomenal and the view of the ocean was incredible. The service was fantastic. I highly recommend it after walking the trail.

Perfect spot for brunch by the ocean

By Rachel |

What a lovely little beach restaurant! We stopped by for brunch on a weekday, got seated right away with a good view of the ocean. The French toast and the salmon-avocado toast were amazing!

Lovely brunch

Visited today including the kids and grandma, and had a lovely brunch. The kids loved the "No Nutella" French toast, but my favorite was the Avocado toast. View is great

The perfect La Jolla breakfast and lunch spot!

By HelaneF |

Cove House is a new breakfast and lunch spot with a beautiful view of the cove in downtown La Jolla. The food was great / we loved the avocado salad with perfectly seasoned jidori chicken and the delicious butter with mascarpone cheese and vanilla with our toast was a nice surprise. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is very casual. It’s the perfect place if you’re looking an for authentic La Jolla experience.

Mermaid Tail and Full Bellies at Cove House La Jolla

By klpp |

Staff is attentive and made great suggestions like the Loco Moco. We added a local beer for the hubby and a Mermaids Tail for me. Delightful and close to the beach

Great Location

By LarsieB |

We stopped by Cove House for drinks after walking around La Jolla Cove. Both service and the location were great. It was lovely sitting outside under the big umbrellas chatting and having our delicious drinks and taking in the views out towards the ocean. A great way to spend some time.

Lovely al fresco dining

By crusadercc |

You can eat on the patio with a sun umbrella and still watch the park. I enjoyed a delicious crab BLAT and margarita. Server was prompt and attentive.

My experience at Cove House

By Mari |

I dont know id it was an atypical day but... I didn like the experience. tasteless food, I ordered a steak sandwich - the meat came very tough, just bread salad, bland. My husband also ordered a crab sandwich and it came with very little filling, crab. Service only with very young people, (lovely though) and they didn't ask if we like... if was everything ok. The place was ok nice location, charming for a fast food.

Refusing to honor price on menu

By Iris S |

No complaints with ambiance or server. Food was decent…not great, but ok. What we have a complaint about is that the menu we were given showed a certain price on a drink we ordered, but when we got the bill it had an extra $3 tacked on to it. When we brought it up to the server's attention, she discussed it with who we assumed was the manager. Their excuse was that they were in the midst of changing the menu over and had not updated the extra increase on the menu. Since it wasn't the server's fault, who was pleasant and accommodating with us...we let it go but did tell her to tell her manager that the proper thing to do is to honor the price the customer is presented with, as a reflection of their customer service. Their lack of honoring the price we were initially given just showed that they're taking advantage of the customers hoping they don't notice. Unfortunately...the tip we were going to give the server was affected. Though not fair...neither was their lame excuse for why they were reluctant to honor the original price we initially saw on the menu.

Cove House-perfect for breakfast or lunch

By Julie P |

Fabulous location and atmosphere - the staff is so friendly and helpful. The avocado toast and fish tacos are a must!

Lunch in the sunshine

By vaugkimb |

While in town for business my colleague and I took a quick Uber trip to downtown La Jolla to see the ocean and grab some lunch. This restaurant has both indoor and outdoor dining though everyone there for lunch that day was eating outside. (I mean, of course they were - the weather was picture perfect!) The food was light and refreshing. I enjoyed fish tacos and split the citrus salad. The view was lovely as you can see the ocean at the end of the street on which this restaurant is located. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food was promptly served.

Good food, cozy atmosphere

By ahtram56 |

The Cove House was just a lucky stop for us on a cold and windy day in LaJolla. As luck would have it they had a cozy fire in the fireplace and good warm coffee . I had halibut tacos that were wonderful. My partner had a crab salad sandwich. We both liked the lunch a lot. Good service and good food. Great spot close to the seals in the cove.

Great view nice service

By Mike |

Just a few steps up from the beach. It's fun to sit on the porch and people watch, especially people trying to parallel park on the hill. Fish tacos are excellent.

Great little breakfast spot

By Randy Thompson |

Had a business breakfast meeting here an thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Staff was very friendly and accommodating, food was good and plentiful and reasonably priced. Would definitely go again when next in the area. And it's a short walk down to the cove where you can see all the seals! :-)

Advised!!

By Annalisa R |

Located in the heart of La Jolla in San Diego, it leaves a good memory for its dishes which seem to be a mix between American and Mexican cuisine. Really recommended.

Beautiful view and good breakfast

By Alaka S |

Cove house has a beautiful view of the ocean. The service was nice. And all the things we ordered were delicious. I had avacado toast with eggs. Fish and chips, Apple pie, French toast, Stone crab blat. Each of the dish was delicious and filling. The prices were reasonable too.

Beautiful View, Fantastic Service and Excellent Food

By Scotland222 |

What can I say about this restaurant that isn’t perfect except maybe an outside cushion on the bench seats outside for softer seating...My group sat outside with the perfect view of the ocean. The service here was spot on. We never went without anything. The food served was delicious. We dined here for breakfast and their homemade herb biscuits had so much flavor. They were served with the Crab Benedict which was excellent! I had my eggs basted medium but I think I would order them poached next time. They describe the topping as a hatch gravy and I wasn’t sure what that was. I thought it was going to be heavy and dark but instead, it was light and a creamy light color. I had asked for it on the side and ended up adding more of it than my usual 2 tablespoons because it was so good. It came with breakfast potatoes in which was a pretty hearty serving. I had finished my entire entree and after just a few bites of potatoes, I was completely satisfied and too full to eat any more potatoes. The mimosa’s completed our breakfast. My daughter had the Eggs Benedict and we had two other plates served. We went fairly early before the beach crowds came but it is definitely worth waiting for....

Fish Tacos

By Sakamoto B |

Some of the best fish tacos we had in San Diego. The side of Chips were also great. We were lucky enough to be seated in a spot with a great view in La Jolla.

We had a great lunch here. My husband had a hamburger and I had the BLAT. My lunch was amazing! The service was excellent as well. It’s a short walk from the Cove with the Sea Lions.

Great GF lunch options

By Michael M |

After visiting the Cove while on vacation, we needed a restaurant with gluten-free options. The Cove House turned out to be a perfect choice. There was a short wait for a table (less than 15 minutes), but it was worth it. The wait staff were super friendly and helpful, and each of our food choices (including the gluten options) and waffle fries were all great.

Great Benedicts!

By Stacy Strickland |

We had a bit of a wait for a table, understandable considering that we showed up right at lunchtime on a Saturday. Once we ordered, the wait wasn't long at all. The kitchen really pumped out plates!! We both enjoyed our Benny's - California for me, crab for him. The biscuits (used in place of the standard English muffin) were really good, which added to the meal. Service was fantastic. On a sustainability note, I was surprised to see ketchup delivered in a plastic container. I recommend switching to something reusable (isn't there a state ban on single use?) and perhaps even offering ketchup upon request... we barely touched ours, so that's a lot of ketchup that'll just be thrown away.

Views!

By ixtoviaje |

Visited my daughter who lives and works in San Diego with my sister visiting from abroad and went to La Jolla Cove to watch the seals resting on the beach head basking in the sunny but cool and breezy Pacific coastline. One of my favorite spots in the world to come and visit, just spectacular views all around! Decided to have brunch at the Cove House on top of the hill with amazing 360 degree views. We were promptly seated at their patio and service was on the money! We ordered their Chickrizo Scramble, Avocado Toast and Sam I Am "Green Eggs" the latter as a homage to Dr. Seuss who lived in the area after the second world war. Scrambled eggs with chicken chorizo, poblano crema, salsa mocha and cove potatoes served on a skillet, what a dish with just the right amount of heat! Enjoyed every bit of it and washed it down with watermelon and strawberry aqua fresca. What more can I say about this establishment other than highly recommend it to tourists as well as locals! Food is excellent, service is top rate and priced moderately and the of course the killer views! Money shot for sure!

Lovely lunch

By Valerie G |

What a lovely time we had here. Stopped in for a late lunch while casually exploring this beautiful area of San Diego. Food was amazing - I had the fish tacos, out of this world good and my friend had one of the salads which was also lovely fresh and delicious. Our waitress was super friendly, super accommodating, just the best. I highly recommend this spot for great food great service and good value.

Great place for a meal

By PhilnKathy |

We had breakfast here 2 days in a row. The first day I had avocado toast with sun dried tomatoes pesto. Very good. My husband had a hamburger and said it was very good. Those who had the wild berry compote with their meal raved about it. So the next day I ordered toast with my eggs to make sure I got the compote! Good coffee.

Good food, fresh taste, fair price

By dinfamily2009 |

Spent some time at the cove then strolled into the Cove House for a meal before heading home. Overall, the food was very good and the service was polite. We had the rice bowl with tuna, taco with tuna, French toast, and cheeseburger and fries. Each dish was very tasty. The portion size was reasonable and so was the price.

Excellent Brunch

By Jeremiah G |

Stopped here for brunch. They open at 10am and there was a bit of a line but everyone was seated fairly quickly. I had their french toast and my wife their traditional eggs benedict, both of which were excellent. Friendly service and a good amount of outdoor seating.

Get the fish tacos!

By S.O |

After a long day, we walked past Cove House and took a glance at the menu outside. Everything looked delightful. Both my husband and I opted for the fish tacos. He did baja, I did grilled. They were INCREDIBLE! We are still talking about them. We will eat at Cove House again when we’re back in La Jolla.

A Breakfast That Runed My Day

By Lovell C |

I visited Cove House on a Tuesday morning around 10:30-11:00 a.m. and ordered the steak and eggs with a coffee. I felt fine while I was there, but shortly after leaving and reaching the freeway, I developed a sore throat that continued nonstop for the rest of the day. The discomfort completely ruined my day. This was my first experience at Cove House, and it was not a good one. Overall, the experience turned into a nightmare rather than an enjoyable meal.

Great breakfast place

One of the best breakfast experiences we’ve had in a while. The service was polite and prompt and the food was great! My wife had the Stone Crab Benny and I had the Loco Moco, simply wonderful!

Just like I remembered from 15 years ago.

Quick seating, great views from deck. Excellent server, Jesse S. Excellent food served hot. We had cove Burger, chicken sandwich and crab blat. . Moderate prices for La Jolla. Hadn’t been there in 15 years. Same quality. Indoor seating as well.

Cute unpretentious spot in La Jolla - Contactless ordering & payment

By littlesarahb |

Saw this place walking around LaJolla cove and thought it was so cute and loved the outdoor seating setup so we decided to try. Went for an early lunch and I got fish tacos and my son got the Stone Crab Benny. Both were delicious as well as the Rose that I got on tap. Sat at the bar top facing out to enjoy the view. Nice, friendly serice and menu and payment all done via your phone.

The view is nice

The stools are uncomfortable, the service was slow but the view is nice. It's nice that it is cleaned up.
