This place came highly recommended by several people I know, and I have to say, I was a little disappointed. We ordered crawfish, oysters on the half shell, boudin balls (which were REALLY good), and large hand peeled shrimp. I have to say the only thing I really enjoyed were the boudin balls. Our service was alright, we had outdoor seating, I'm not sure if our waitress had tables inside also, but we did not see her too often. In all, I doubt I will visit again.

$6.95 for a shrimp poboy, $8.99 for a 1lb of crawfish. $13.99 for a 1lb of snow crab legs. For Ausitn - those are some cheap prices for cajun food. Gumbo not a traditional dark roux - more orange in color and not my favorite. Blackened shrimp good, but not exceptional. Raw oysters were HUGE! Wish we had ordered 6 instead of 12 because by the time we cut them in half, we had 12! We went to the South location. Easy parking. Good service.

Get here early because this place fills up fast, it's a small place with maybe 15 tables and the food is sooooo good. Bring your hand sanitizer, because you're gettin messy!

The add ons gets expensive and beers $5 a pop . So get your drinks elsewhere first before you get. Small hole in the wall place but good food

I have never tasted anything sooooo good until I came here. You order the crawfish by the pound so I would recommend 2lbs to start with and corn and potatoes. It comes out on a tray with the best sauce that it has been brewing in for some time. I don' know what is better the sauce or the crawfish. There is a definite art in how to get the meat out so ask the waiter to show you then it is dive in with your hands and suck those guys! Warning! Do not wear your newest white T Shirt, it gets all over you and you just want to lick everything. My favourite so far and worth travelling to if you live a little bit away.

Had the gumbo and it was good as well as the cajun egg rolls, oysters, shrimp, everything really was tasty. Only problem was the service was SLOW and staff forgetful. Had to tell waitress multiple times for extra tea, cocktail sauce, lemon, you name it and I had to ask more then 2-3 times each. So this made the experience rather blah. Would try again but hope service is better.

For a hole in the wall place it was very very good. We had the Cajun crawfish fried rice. The portion was huge and so very tasty.

My family is always looking for different cuisine, we found this little place in a plaza this past weekend and we were glad we did! My husband and son ate the crawfish and really enjoyed them. I had the Jambalaya, it was so good! The appetizers were not only cheap, but tasty as well; we ordered hush puppies, calamari and seasoned French fries. If you are looking for a place to go and hang out to enjoy your company and the food in a relaxed atmosphere, I would recommend this place. The prices are very reasonable,

The first thing we noticed upon entering was the "fishy smell", which always means the seafood is probably not fresh. We had to wait on a table, so I went to the bar to order a beer while waiting. No acknowledgement from the lone bartender on duty. Then, she was making a drink with salt on the rim of a glass. She proceeded to turn the glass over and run her finger inside the rim to remove some salt, then poured the drink EWWWW! Unsanitary and incompetent. We left quickly.

Crawfish was on point. exceptional butter not to hot and something I loved. Id 100% go back. Large crawfish and the market rate reasonable.

Had dinner here one nite with a group and was disappointed with the food. The menu is extensive but the quality and taste of the food doesn't measure up. Wasn't overly impressed with any one item and found the portions lacking in comparison to the price. Would not go out of my way to eat here again. Poor imitation of Cajun style eatery.

im from Houston with Louisiana in my blood, so i know great seafood! this is not a fancy place, but good food, quick service, and byob (but not beer). when crawfish isn't is season, you cant go wrong with crab legs and boiled shrimp. I guess one would describe their boiling style as more Asian than Cajun... boiled in buttery saucy oil, served with corn, potatoes, onions, mushrooms and sausage!

This is the place for a boil. The modest strip mall location belies the great dining inside. Their menu is limited to things they do very well. I had a shrimp boil with the normal intents. Service was good. I will return.

The food and service is on point...highly recommended... the food taste awesome... My wife is happy so im happy

We arrived on Saturday and the place was almost empty. We waited 10-15 minutes for the server. We ordered fried mushrooms for an appetizer. When they arrived, there were 12 very small mushrooms, maybe lukewarm = disappoint! Soft shell crab was decent size and fried to oblivion!! Word to the wise: Don’t waste your time or money.

Heard about the place from a local so I decided to check it out. It looks a little inconspicuous from the outside, but when I went inside I was shocked to see a full dining room for lunch. Food was awesome and this definitely a place to come back too for crawfish!

I wasn't expecting much from a strip mall place. It is crowded in and doesn't look like much. Once inside the atmosphere is fun and busy. Staff was great; nice, helpful, patient. I thought I about died with the food. I got the platter combo which let me try the flounder, fried oysters, shrimp, hushpuppies, and fries. My friend got the crawfish medium spice. All of it was good but after watching other tables I want to try the crab legs! $50 for my combo, fiancé's lunch, my drink, and two beers for him. For good seafood I was very impressed with the prices!

My husband, myself, and my eight month old at the time decided to eat here on one of our visits to Austin. I was very pleased with the atmosphere, and how kid friendly it was. I ordered crawfish, and though they were not spicy like the cajun style I am used to, they had this buttery garlic spice flavor to them, and I was not disappointed. Very good overall, and we will definitely be going back to visit.

We visited this place early March 2017. The line was long and we waited for around 30min. It was about 4 or 5 groups of people ahead of us.... thought the location was kinda off but wanted to try anyway and we're glade that we sticked around. My husband & I ordered 2 combos and 1 dozen oysters and beers of course. The service was quick and pleasant. Best of all the crawfish spiciness was just right...a little burn around your lips but not your tongue and the oysters are fresh. we came back twice for our 4 days visit :-)

We ordered fried shrimp platters with cole slaw and an order of etiouffe. They were quick and ready when promised and good! Curbside pickup! Love this little restaurant!

Food was not very authentic in taste. Not to much to choose from on menu. Everything on menu is fried. Service was very good ... People were friendly, and attentive.

Craving crawfish, a coworker and I stopped in for dinner. While a little high on the price (about $10 for a pound of crawfish), the seasoning was nice and spicy like I like it and the crawfish were decent sized. Unless you order 2 lbs, you have to order corn or potatoes on the side, which is too much food for a person who eats reasonably. My friend had the king crab and said it was really good. The place does a brisk business and tables turn over fairly quickly. We waited less than 5 minutes for a table. Service was attentive.

There is a reason the Crawfish Shack is packed. The locals have been coming here for years. It because what they do they do well. My wife and I joined a couple of friends at the Crawfish Shack which is one of their favorites. It was our first visit. My buddy and I Shared the Hot From The Pot Crawfish. The entrée comes in a huge round pan. The HOT FROM THE POT has two pounds of seasoned crawfish with corn-on-the-cob, potatoes, sausages, and mushrooms. You can have it prepared with mild, medium or spicy seasoning. We went with spicy since we would never hear the end of it from our friends. The crawfish was amazing. The seasoning was addictive. In fact, I wiped every crawfish meat extraction on the bottom of the pan to pick up the savory juices and enjoy every single bite. The staff was friendly and prompt. The atmosphere was just like the food...festive. Before you dig into the Hot From The Pot, get a bib and gloves....the Crawfish Shack provides them.

We are staying in a new hotel north of Austin & didn't feel like fighting the traffic back into Austin for dinner. I found this little place on a phone app. Service was great & the seafood was very good and fresh. My husband & sons had raw oysters & were surprised at their size & freshness. They had the combo seafood platters & I had king crab legs. It was all very good. We would definitely go back.

When my Mom and I walked into the restaurant, we weren't sure what to think. First, it is not quite visible from the road. Second, it is in the nook of the shopping center and last it looked quite small. When we walked in, there were about 6 tables of guests, all were eating boiled shrimp or crab. I was going for the first time and wanted crawfish. Skeptical, I ordered the crawfish, and worried since they boiled without seasoning and added it last (not the case) or so the waitress told me. The crawfish and the snow crab, both we ordered spicy were some of the best crawfish and crab I have had. In fact, I'm still dreaming of it, while writing this review. It seems to have gotten some bad reviews, but the reviews were on fried items...don't go to a boiling seafood restaurant for fried seafood platter (can you even taste the food?). Price was a bit high $8.95/pound for crawfish and $13.95/pound for snow crab, but it was very tasty!

The food here is good. We had raw oysters and 3 pounds of crawfish we had to order another potato so we could each have one. And when my fiancé asked for butter to dip in they charged for that. We had already spent 40.00 in food. To me that is very low end to nickel and dime their customers like that. The service is horrible. people running all around and no food going out.and no drinks refilled. For Mardi gras I did my own boil so I could have more then one potato with three pounds of seafood. I like the food just not the service and the atmosphere

There really isn't any atmosphere at this South Austin eatery. It seems like an under-done Red Lobster. That being said, we were still excited to try the food! We ordered the King Crab Legs and waited eagerly. What arrived was indeed King Crab Legs, but drenched in a messy sauce. I'd never seen crab served this way, but I was game. The crab itself was tasty, but getting though the thick sauce and spices that were all over everything was almost too much. 215 napkins later, we finished. Service was okay, food was okay, atmosphere was lacking. Just an okay, kinda blah dinner experience.

Great great tasty SeaFood. From the the waitress to the ambiance you could not have asked for more. They are very busy and at the time I went which is my second time, the service is fast. The food is served piping hot. I will be back

Casual spot. If you manage spice. Order the food super spicy we had a pound of crab legs and a pound of shrimp. Tasty, tasty, tasty!!!! This is the SPOT

we came down to visit Austin during spring break from kemah and ...we have never tastes crabs this good .. We are all huge crab lovers and these by far are the best .. Cooked in that beautiful seasoning .. We are coming back just for the crabs .. Driving 4 hours .. Yep they are that good .

Since he was denied crawfish during Thanksgiving, we splurged on 3 pounds for the hungry 18 year old on his Birthday. He choose the spicy version and was not disappointed. That was an hour feast that he will never forget!

This is what my gumbo looked like when I got home. The top had melted into the gumbo. So irritated and then they made me come all the way back up there, then wanted to charge me all over again and void the current charge and hold up more of my money. RidiC. This place has really went down..

Went here after seeing it a few weeks ago. Wasn't quite sure what I was getting into, but I had an inkling it was a cajun wannabe with crawfish in the place name. Sure enough, they had gumbo, jambalaya and etouffe on the menu. I chose to try some appetizers for my first trip so I could sample the fare. The gumbo was not bad, but it lacked zing. The boudin balls were pretty good, especially with the sauce they served. Calamari was only passable, and the shrimp sauce that it came with might as well have been ketchup. My personal opinion is it's not authentic cajun and Evangeline Cafe is not too far away and a better choice if you want authentic Cajun.

I had 2 pounds of spicy boiled crawfish. They were excellent. My mom had the blackened tilapia. She said it was really good. The Cajun fries were tasty too. I wasn't sure what to expect from the place, but one of my chef buddies eats there all the time so I figured they were worth a try. I was not disappointed. By the time we were finishing up eating, the wait line was working it's way out the door. I will definitely go back.

This little "hole in the wall" came recommended by a friend. The gumbo is absolutely amazing!! We had the fresh oysters and of course a cold beer. Calamari, peel-n-eat shrimp and one of the biggest oyster po'boys! DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!! The owners are some of the most friendliest we've ever met as well as our waitress. You cannot go wrong eating here!! We look forward to going back next time we're in Austin!!

A little place that puts out "BIG". All food on the menu is awesome. Atmosphere is casual. Crab, crawfish, shrimp all fresh. Prices low. Cajun fries a MUST. I want to go Just talking about it. It's a true "addixtion" I really appreciate restaurants that take pride in their work.

I love the cajun wings and fries there, and the crawfish and corns within it are really amazing! Other than that... service and atmosphere are just ok.

This hold in the wall seafood spot is non-de script and unpretentious but, boy oh boy, the seafood is to top notch. The seafood combo was perfectly fried - not greasy and fresh. The blue crab with Cajun seasonings was again fresh and tasty. The service was friendly and accommodating! Thumbs up!

Dined at this place while in Austin, Tx 2 weeks ago. Was terrible dissappointed with food and prices. As one who has lived and dined on Canjun food in New Orleans, I felt it was insult to canjun food. Extremely bland and small portions. Nothing there tasted like real canjun food. Would not reccommend this place to anyone who is looking for authentic creole or canjun food. Better off going to Popeyes!

We went to Crawfish Shack & Oyster bar and ordered Butterfly Shrimp (excelent) , fried mushroons (Amazing!) and Sea food (king crab glawback, shrimps and other one that I can't remember The name) . The seafood was not that great. It is a noise and simple environment to go.

The Crawfish tasted frozen with very little flavor. This is not the place to go if you are a True Crawfish eater and looking for that spicy Louisiana flavor. The crabs were very tasty.

Our waitress was very attentive and offered very good service. The menu was limited but we tried various things. The oysters on the half shell were not overly flavorful – there are many restaurants in town with better tasting. The chargrilled oysters were uninspired and flavorless. The blackened shrimp was ok, but didn’t have muck flavor and had no fire and the jambalaya was flavorless. The spicy salt on the margarita glass was good and the beer glasses were very cold and the waitress was good. Those are the only positive things I can say, unfortunately.

Arrived at 12:30 to a freezing restaurant and I mean COLD. The waiter was the owner I think and was a nice man. Ordered Jambalaya small and it arrived piping hot. However the food had no heat, no pizazz, and no salt. Very disappointing to say the least.

I have eaten here numerous times over the years and anytime I make it back to Austin I have to make a stop here. Their butter sauce is great but leans towards the spicy side. The restaurant can get very busy, so try to eat during an off time. Great happy hour beer prices.

The food was great, service okay, could have been quicker for late time on Wednesday night. The catfish with etouffet was excellent, and ceasar salad. I don't drink so I don't know how the drinks were, but everyone seemed satisfied.

My grand daughter a student at UT suggested we visit this establishment for lunch saying that she had been there several times during her time in Austin. My first impression is that the venue is for those in the know/locals it isn't easy to find and it's not in the centre of town. The day we were there the restaurant was clothed in scaffolding it was being upgraded at leat the outside was, inside was cavernous and dark we selected a table near a window for the extra light. The venue clearly seats a large number of diners at night for lunch it is far from ideal. Our waitress was friendly and attentive as only American table staff can be. The beers were cold and arrived promptly, the food was, considering the lack of customers, slow to appear. I was more than a little put off by the number and size of the TV screens playing various sports loudly. When our meal did arrive it looked good we started with oysters, frankly I have had a lot better the size was small and they were cold which is great if you order them natural served on ice which we didn't they were supposed to be from under the grill I was not impressed. Next to arrive was the famed crawfish platter it was after all the reason we were there. I admit the platter was a mouth watering sight. If restaurant food was judged on first impressions I would be happy to score our meal a ten. But food isn't judged on r first impressions it is judged on presentation, size of the meal (especially in the US), flavour, and value to name but a few of the criteria. As I said first impression was good, my second impression was also good, the platter looked as if it would feed a small army or at least a gang of half cut uni-students on a drunken night out. When it came to flavour the sauce was reasonable but I wouldn't say it was cajon. I feel the sauce designed to obscure the flavours of the dish not enhance them the sauce was successful it obscured the subtlety of the crawfish I had no idea if the fish were fresh or frozen. There were insufficient potatoes for three people and the corn was overcooked. I found the dish boring. The Crawfish weren't worth the effort required to shell them my eldest daughter, a restaurant owner, said that the Crawfish were unimpressive but she acknowledged the meal was a fair price. Whereas my granddaughter enjoyed her meal and enthused about it. We all skipped dessert from what was an uninspiring and limited menu. We also cut short or stay as our waitress had said she was due off duty, the hint being please pay now or I'll miss my tip. We paid and left. I can see how a group of students a football team even a bucks night might enjoy the place but anyone interested in good food well served and presented should give it a miss. If you're interested in drinking plus finger licking food then try it. If you're interested in good food and a drink with your food then its not for you.
Never let the look cool you
Walked in was not sure about the place. But! Our wsitress was just the best! The food was outstanding. Shrimp ettufe (I spelled thst wrong) poboy catfish sandwich and 1 pound crawfish ALL perfect. Great little restaurant. Will recommend to all. Will be back. Did I mention our waitress was awesome?
