As per other reviews the food was delicious. Try the lamb curry, it was fantastic! Roti and Naan breads also very tasty. Mango lassi to finish off was perfect! Ali is the owner and he was super friendly, place was full of locals and busy...... you know it’s good! Highly recommend!

We stumbled across this little place during our last visit to this vibrant city. We were actually on our way to another restaurant having failed to spot this one on Trip Advisor when we spotted it across the road and went to investigate. You find a table and order food at the till. You collect your own utensils plates and glasses and wait for the food to be brought to your table. The variety of dishes is superb and the quality and flavors excellent. They do not sell wine but there is a grocery store across the road that sells a great variety of good wines. You buy a bottle and take it back to the restaurant where they will loan you a corkscrew and you serve yourself just as you would at home. Last visit we enjoyed two meals here. This time we planned our day to get back here again and we were not disappointed, the food was every bit as good as before. If you like Indian food this is the place to go in San Francisco.

My life, this place is a hidden gem. The food is just amazing. The flavours they get from the rice is amazing and although you might have to wait to get served as the locals use it as it is so good, it is worth it. We managed to get a table inside. They don't serve alcohol, but I think you can take your own. (check, as I am not sure) Honestly, this place was just a gem hidden and if you fancy a curry that you can't shake the taste out of your mouth, this place is for you.

We were delighted to find this restaurant after walking past many restaurants with long waits and high prices. Curry Leaf had no line up and were were warmly greeted. one ordesr at the cashier the food is taken to your table. The food was absolutely delicious, hot with a brilliant blend of spices. A welcome treat !

this tiny place has a small menu. No frills, no alcohol, only water or soft drinks. Reasonably priced and busy spot because of this. Worth a visit.

We decided on this place for a slightly late dinner after a long day of trekking around San Francisco. It was drizzling slightly, we were both tired, so we didn't want anything fussy or far. Curry Leaf was only a couple of blocks from our hotel and when we looked in, it looked cozy and not very busy, so we dove in. I love Indian food and have eaten in quite a few in a lot of different locations, and I have to admit that most of the time, they're fairly lackluster and not really worthy of a mention, so this is the lens through which I view any new Indian restaurants I try. Curry Leaf is cafeteria style, where you order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. Although I don't order it very often, I was in the mood for rice, so I had the chicken biryani. My friend ordered the chicken wrap, and we split an order of vegetable samosas. Samosas are fairly standard fare, and it's usually a bad sign when the restaurant starts out by ruining them, but Curry Leaf started off on the right foot. The samosas were not overcooked and the potatoes were seasoned just right. My biryani was very good, with just the right amount of spice, nice large pieces of boneless chicken breast, and fragrant basmati rice. The naan in my friend's wrap was fresh, chewy and moist, and her wrap nicely put together. I noticed after we had ordered and sat down that a number of the other customers in the place had ordered what seemed like more than the usual amount of food and had lots of plates on their tables. I think this is a good sign that people are ordering a variety of dishes and sharing them liberally between two or three people. Curry Leaf is not a fancy place by any stretch of the imagination, but if you're in the mood for excellent Indian food in the neighborhood, definitely give them a try.

How anybody could write that this place has fair prices, even for SF, is hard to believe. One tandoori chicken leg is six dollars. Yes, that’s right, six dollars for one small chicken leg. The food here is bland and the service is rudimentary at best. Try Ravvi in North Beach for good Indian food at half the price.

Tikka masala and lamb gosht were both excellent. Creamy and plenty of spices in both. The garlic nann had a pizza crust consistency so a bit more dense than other places but great for sopping up the sauce. Loved the mint sauce as well. Super flavorful and good prices.

Went for lunch. Self serve order at counter and take a seat. Place has about 7 tables total. Decent chicken tikka masala, good naan and veggie roll. If you want rice with the chicken it’s four bucks more. Ordered a chai tea but the place had no sweetener (wife is diabetic). They were kind and refunded money for tea she could not drink. Food was decent to good.

Simple place with amazing food! I can only highly recommend this place! Yes, you order yourself and they bring the food to the table but the food, again, was excellent! Five stars!

Despite what other say on TA there is NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED in this restaurant. We asked the staff if we could bring in our own and we were told no, they don’t allow alcohol in the restaurant. So we didn’t stay.

During our recent trip to San Francisco on Thanksgiving Day, we decided to order lunch from Curry Leaf, as it was the one of the open ones. We had already prepared rice in our rice cooker, and we had yogurt and pickle with us, so all we needed was a curry to help supplement the food. We ordered our usual Chana Masala by calling ahead to the restaurant. Due to the less number of people in the city, we were able to find parking just outside the restaurant. The general area is not very clean and a lot of homeless folks walking outside. The garbage bins were overflowing and did not look sanitary. After getting the food, we found a spot overlooking the water and had our lunch. The chana masala tasted good, although we felt the quantity was a little on the lower side for the price we paid - I guess things are expensive in the Bay area! Will I visit here again? Probably not..

I am a flight attendant and with my job, I get to eat out in many different cities. I have to say I love Indian food and finding a good Indian restaurant believe it or not is not always easy. Curry Leaf on Columbus Ave in San Francisco is absolutely at the top of my favorite places!!! It is spotless inside, the food is so tasty and I make it a point to go there every time I am in San Francisco ! If you are in San Francisco and you live Indian food Curry Leaf is a must !

My husband and I split garlic naan, samosas, and the spinach paneer. They all were delicious and the service was very fast. I appreciated the style that involved ordering at the counter and grabbing our own water. If I lived here, this would definitely be a regular dining spot!

Restaurant very clean & food was delicious. We ordered briyani & garbanzo dish. Food came out fresh, hot & was very, very good. Service was fast and efficient. Pricing was perfect too & not overpriced like other restaurant.

Visited the Curry Leaf based on TripAdvisor ratings. Not exactly what I expected. Basically it is getting what you paid for! The food was decent although not of the quality that I expected. The Chicken Tika had very small cubes of chicken. The restaurant is a neat concept where you order first, get your own dishes and setups. Your food is brought to your table and you pay afterwards. Restuarant is small but seats maybe 20 - 30 people with outside seating. I would not return.

I'd read fantastic reviews about this place - they were spot on!! The restaurant is immaculately clean. The food was served hot, was fresh and tasted fantastic. I had a chicken curry with a nan - both were out of this world. Home style cooking (which I think is the best!), so no oil floating on top, etc as you see in some Asian restaurants. Friendly service. I wish I had been able to dine in this place a few more times - I really enjoyed the food. Thank you for a great meal!

Since this was within walking distance of our hotel, we just tried it out for dinner. A self service place, the choice of food is decent and portions adequate.Seemed to be a favourite take away joint for quite a few working couples.

It's crowded and bustling for good reason. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. Contrary to what a prior review said, you CAN'T grab wine across the street and bring it in. We even brought our own corkscrew. No alcohol.

Very good and taste Food, very good rates and great location. Irish pub next door, you can taste irish and indian experience together:-)

We loved the food here, especially the paneer tikka masala and garlic naan. Would avoid the paneer wrap as it tasted more like a samosa rather than paneer. In any case, would def. recommend visiting this place, although it is very congested and can barely fit more than 20 patrons at a time. This matters because you are expected to get up and get your water on your own.

This is more like a take away with seats.... you get your own drinks, cutlery, plates etc. Poppadoms strange and hot compared to those in the UK would not recommend. Mains ok for a takeaway however given reviews I expected more...

This place is situated in a nice location away from the busy Fisherman's wharf. The restaurant is self service and pocket friendly. Menu is mostly north Indian but whichever items we tried were prepared very well and served in decent portions. We tried roti, rice, saag chana, pakora and kadai chicken and liked all the items. The restaurant provided pick up service as well. The average bill is around 40 USD for four.

Found by accident. Plenty of options. Basic service but the food was delicious and authentic. Highly recommended.

Excellent cuisine for a very reasonable price. Self-service. No alcohol, which is a shame because a glass of wine is missing when the food is so good. It doesn't look like much but we ate really well there.

We just wanted something nearby that wasn't fried and randomly selected this restaurant. It felt like God was with us. The decor isn't anything special but the food is. My lamb byrani was tender and flavorful. The nan brought back fond memories of other travels my travel companion raved about their choices as well. They take cash and card and the staff was professional and helpful.

We were recommended the Curry Leaf restaurant by Paddy & Paddy of American Airlines while visiting San Francisco, we'd love to be able to say thanks we loved it!! This is a tiny place, where you grab a table and order at the counter. The food was really tasty and good value. They don't serve alcohol, but it's worth foregoing the beer for the food.

Excellent halal food near Fishermans Wharf. Tried the tandoori chicken breast, the kebabs, chicken Tikka masala, and four varieties of Naan. Everything that we tried was really tasty. Ate there three days in a row. Highly recommended to anyone looking for good well priced halal food.

It is a tiny restaurant and we ended up getting our own plates, cutlery and drinks from the fridge! The food was beautiful and the portions large though, so as long as that doesn't put you of (and it shouldn't) this little place is well worth a visit for good Indian food.

Lamb Saag was excellent and spicey. Garlic Naan was crispy. One large piece. Beef special was very good . Rice was large serving. Self order at register. Get your own plate and water and such. Friendly, fast neighborhood restaurant. No glaour but very convenient and we enjoyed our meal. Can sit outside. Prices are very fair.

Nice little joint that is hoping busy with take out and all seats full inside. Short walking distance to Lombard street. Be careful of the green sauce, it has a hard kick. Very self serve and casual. Like all American restaurants the portions are large!

I absolutely love Indian food and talked my husband into walking to this place for a quick dinner while staying in San Fran recently. After reading the reviews I was expecting it to be great, but wasn't expecting a very small almost cafeteria style of ordering etc... Despite this (and the fact they did not have alcohol) we were pleasantly surprised with the meal. We ordered samosas, naan and chicken vindaloo. Everything was delicious and I will definitely be back. Not only was it not too expensive (like every other meal we had in San Fran) it was delicious. Do know that the seating area is very small so if you go, get there early or call ahead to see how busy they are at that time. The staff was very helpful and answered all of our questions. Great spot!

This is Indian self-serve on a busy street in North Beach. The upside is: the dish I had (Chicken Tikka) was very good flavor, a decent portion quite simplly served with plenty of rice. It was not a bargain though ($14) and the amenities are zero. It all seems clean and fast -- you are going here for the tasty food or to grab a quick bite in this location without taking too much time. OK for a business lunch possible.

Liked this small little restaurant which I found on Yelp , the food was simple and truly authentic , we got the food a little more spiced to our taste , paneer tikka masala and Chana. Both the items were good and I loved the aloo nan

If you’re looking for really good Indian food at a reasonable price (not something you can normally say about San Francisco restaurants) and you’re staying near Fisherman’s Wharf then give Curry Leaf a try. Don’t be put off by the fact it’s harshly lit, with cafe type tables, that you fetch your own plates and cutlery, that you order your meal at the counter, or that there’s no liquor licence - the food is worth it. Our daughter is vegan and had a fab meal with us too, but my wife’s chicken saag and my chicken aloo were delicious. Keema naan was first rate too. Three mains, two rice and one naan totalled just over $40. Highly recommended.

The curry’s where very good! Spicy but tastes great. Weird thing is you have to get the plates and drinks yourself.

The food is great at a very reasonable price. I liked the self service concept which you generally don’t find in Indian Restaurants. The crispy Garlic Naan was really well done.

Looking for Indian cuisine close to our hotel and this popped up in the search. Small dining area and self service but the food was excellent! Authentic flavors and really great cuts of meat used in all of the dishes we tried. Had curry, tikka masala, and biryani which was a bit spicy for me but my son and husband loved it. First time having cherry naan and it was wonderful. Friendly staff and very quick service.

After much disappointment eating at upmarket San Fran restaurants we decided to go down market--where do the locals eat?? Our 11 year old grandma daughter found this place and it was just a few blocks from the Holiday Inn Express where we stayed. It was sensational Indian Curry--there were people buzzing around everywhere and the food ( chicken tikka and goats curry) was off the map. They don't serve alcohol and you have to get your own cutlery, but who cares when the food was so amazing. Cost for the three of us was just under $40!! That wouldnt come close to covering appetisers for 3 on the pier nearby. Frankly we found San Fran outrageously expensive and less than friendly so we won't be back ( Ok we did enjoy the scenery and the Alcatraz tour), but if we're ever even close we'd duck into the Curry Leaf for dinner.

We went there during a weekday evening and it was crowded. People kept coming in to withdraw pre-ordered to-go food. I don't even know how they managed to satisfy everybody. That made the place very noisy, definitely not a convenient place for a romantic dinner. Though, it was authentic and tasty Indian food. Absolutely loved it. Staff was friendly and handled the crowd well. Portions are generous. It is not your typical restaurant as you order at the front desk but they will still deliver the food at your table.

Small unpretentious place with friendly service. Very close to the Powell-Mason cable car route (4 mins walk from the Bay & Taylor terminus). Got the chicken roll and it was stuffed generous portion of perfectly cooked chicken with mint & tamarind sauce on the side. Cost around $11 for wrap + bottled water. Meant to go back and try other items but didn't get the time. If you're around Fisherman's Wharf, it's worth the walk for a good meal (about 10 mins up Taylor st from the Wharf).

I like the ambience of this place is very cozy and different I am so impressed by the delicious food they offer and the spices are so flavourful making it a great place to go for a good price meal with. I always stop to eat Curry Leaf on my way home! Highly Recommended .

This is a super casual Indian restaurant with fabulous food and a happy environment. It’s not far from Lombard Street and a short elf from Fisherman’s wharf. We had Chicken Tikka Marsala, rice, papadums and naan bread. It was super delicious. We weren’t overly hungry so this was plenty for us. They also had very yummy looking bbq chicken on the bone. It’s not licenced and the menu is not huge but there were lots of locals and they were doing a huge takeaway trade. I highly recommend a meal here!!

Columbus Ave in San Fran has one thing going for it: the variety of restaurants. At the northwest end you’ll find a smaller restaurant, the Curry Leaf. Their specialty: Indian & Pakistani cuisine. The menu is simple, and the food is excellent. Trying to find awesome Naan made different ways? Look here. Have Biryani on your mind? Go here. The prices are very reasonable. So that’s it; a review about as straight forward as the Curry Leaf. Go. You’ll thank me later. Bon Appetit.

Pleasantly surprised by this little place that we happened to walk past. Food was super tasty and reasonably priced. Palak paneer was great and not as oily as a lot of others. My dining partner described the Chicken Boti as being 'actually best tandoori chicken I've ever had.' Rice was awesome and roti was fresh and soft. You get your own cutlery, plates, water etc but that's fine and it's all clean.

Lovely little restaurant - is basic so help yourself to cutlery etc but dishes brought to table. This didn't make a difference the food was spot on - the goat and lamb so tender! Good low prices and good service would recommend and also go back.

Having got bored of eating burritos and more american style catering, we decided to have a curry, of which there are few options in San Fran. We found this experience uninspiring and were met with staff who didn't seem particularly welcoming. We also sat for about 5 minutes on a dirty table which no one came to clean, before I picked it up the dirty plates and brought them to the counter - no apology given. The prices didn't seem that cheap given the canteen style delivery of food and there were very limited drink options other than second hand water in a jug from a previous diner. The food seemed mostly average. Just tomato sauce, some spices and few pieces of meat with no visible vegetables. The naan bread was also a bit undercooked and quite doughy. Not our best experience of San Fran dining.

Head away from the tourist restaurants (and tourist prices) of Fishermans Wharf to Columbus Ave. and more specifically places like the Curry Leaf Restaurant. The food is far, far superior and you will pay a third/half the price compared to places like Pier 39. The restaurant was busy (good sign), clean and offered a very nice meal. Would recommend.

We had a dinner at Curry Leaf while sightseeing San Francisco. Everything was very tasty and freshly prepared. We had biryani, samosas, tikka masala, and a veggie curry. All the dishes were quite spicy for Indian food so keep this in mind. The restaurant was busy which is always a good indication. Their space is quite small, we came with a toddler and they brought a high chair, but we were kinda squeezed in there. Definitely a great spot for a lunch or dinner. Recommend.

Very lovely choice of spicy dishes auguring well for the gourmet experience! With an inviting aroma of dishes, the experience is so nostalgic!

On my visit to San Francisco I came across this small restaurant after reading reviews here. The food is amazing. If you know how home made Indian food tastes, you will not be disappointed. The food tastes amazingly delicious. I also want to mention this not your typical fancy restaurant with waiters waiting on you. But I would define this as a take out restaurant where if you choose you can also sit down to eat . So once you get in, place your order with the cashier and find a place to sit. While you wait for your food you can grab silverware, plates and water . Some of my recommendations are Chicken Karahi , and chicken biryani

Delicious family dinner. Many Indian families were dining at this restaurant when we visited. Excellent value

Overall good food. Service I cant comment, because customer need to bring from central location all the dishes, water glasses, spoons etc. Location is good

It is really nice place for an authentic Indian food. Neat, Clean & good hospitality. moreover you can have your dish for a reasonable rate. Good verity vegetarian dishes.

Excellent food, great customer service. Little spicy but very tasty. Short walk from Fisherman’s wharf hotel.

Like many San Francisco restaurants, tables and space are limited but the food is out of this world. Casual order at the register atmosphere. Food you'll do anything for!! Highly recommended!

I frequent this place often for lunch and once a while for dinner. The food is alway great. The service is quick and is always value for money.

Had the tandoori chicken (breast) on the bone and the chicken tikka masala. The tandoori chicken was quite different to what we are used to having in Melbourne and London. The spices were excellent and breast with the bone made it quite different. The biryani portions are quite generous and are definitely meant for sharing. Tandoori roti was superb. Staff is quite helpful but it is more of a casual dining place where you have to help yourself to water, cutlery and crockery.

Found this little gem of a place Coming from glasgow we know a good curry and this place did not disappoint The tandoori chicken is 1 of THE most succulent and tasty we have had The naan bread was so fluffy Staff were just so nice and friendly Would recommend this place a total san Francisco find

The restaurant is very small, better be prepared to wait for your table during peak hours. The food is very tasty and great place for relishing Indian food. The food has to be ordered at the cashier and the food will be served at the table. Must try if you want to have a different experience.

Went here for a curry and it was quite spicy but tasty. Good price, basic like a cafe but for a quick dinner when sightseeing it's fine. Great when visiting the crooked street etc and value for money.

It was a random pick, the lamb curry was Amazing. I made it to-go but at the end ate it outside on the restaurant chairs. Fast pick-up service. (10mins)

Again this place awesome Raamzan Bhai and team make the best Desi/pak food around bar none the quality of food, service, ambiance, and overall dining experience is fabulous

I'm Asian and I've had "Asian food" in America many times. Most often than not, they westernize the Flavours and it isn't authentic anymore. Thus, I was skeptical to try this joint, but I have to say that we were not disappointed at all. Good food, reasonably priced for Asian food in US and the crowd is often Indian, so you know that's where they sell the good stuff. The only disappointment was that the Punjabi guy had an American accent - lol, I'm KIDDING!

My grown son and I sought a late night dinner withing walking distance of our hotel. Happily, we found Curry Leaf! The menu offered many appetizing selections, which our waiter helped us narrow down to our tastes. Everything was affordable, so we were able to sample a handful of items without breaking the bank. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Having read the reviews we decided to eat at the Curry Leaf. The reviews were pretty accurate! The food is fresh, good portions, and tasty. We were impressed with the Chicken Boti which was from the Tandoor oven and was very tender. If you are looking for a lengthy fine dining experience then this isn't the place for you but if you want tasty, fresh food in a no frills environment then this is a good place to try.

This is a no frills restaurant. I give tripadvisor credit for us trying this restaurant. The favors in the dishes are amazing. The service is fast and friendly.

Nothing fancy in terms of the restaurant but the food is fantastic. Authentic flavours, great value for money and good service. It's very popular with the locals so you may have to wait for a table but it's definitely worth it.

Halal. Tasty food. Area is clean. Staff alright. TV on. No frills. Just eat. Cash and card accepted. Quick, easy and tasty, recommended.

Good restaurant for online order and pick up. Make close to authentic Indian items. But the preparation lacks the Mughlai touch. There may be better Indian restaurants in SF

My husband and I traveled for a month throughout Pakistan in 2000 as part of my graduate studies. As vegetarians, we found every meal a grim challenge in a land of kebabs, and we skipped meals much of the time. The worst surprise was the oil that the dahl and vegetables were inevitably cooked in... a strong industrial smell and taste, and worse aftertaste. We are both thin people, but each of us lost over ten pounds by the time we flew home. This was almost 18 years ago, and the memories linger, but after reading glowing reviews of the Curry Leaf Restaurant in the North Beach neighborhood where we recently stayed in San Francisco, we were happy to investigate. What a terrific meal and wonderful staff behind the counter! I only regret that we didn't do their extensive vegetarian menu justice; there is only so much a human being can eat in one meal. With one exception, it was better than anything we ordered from a restaurant in Pakistan (and that was an epic meal at the famous Khan Club in Peshawar). One orders at a counter and then settles for a short wait. The air is full of the fragrance of spices. The food is very very fresh, and dishes are served in quick succession, so the meal unfolds with the delivery of one savory dish after another. The level of spice is set at medium, which for me is easily tolerated and appreciated. The young men cooking, taking orders and serving were friendly and charming. I wish my San Francisco stay was longer, as I would have loved to try more dishes from the tantalizing menu. An excellent experience altogether, and I highly recommend!

A most go place if you are in San Francisco. Delicious food very authentic and with an amazing flavor. Accesible prices and great location.

I can’t tell you in words how brilliant this place is, delicious food great service quick service delicious delicious delicious you must eat here if staying in san fransisco

Stayed at Columbus Inn just down the street from Curry Leaf so we did take out from this place. Their concept of ordering and getting your own plates is great. Good idea. We didn't do that but great concept. The ordering was a bit of a challenge since we don't eat much of Indian food, and the person taking our order was not really helpful. We had lamb biryani and that was very good and spicy. We also had daal and that was also very good and spicy (at least for us it was spicy). Naan was great and so were the samosas. I would go there again.

Da provare ! Good choice. Absolutely fantastic bread. Prices for frisco great. Mezzo self service Very good mangolassi

We found this online, we were nearby, and hungry and love Indian. The food was very good and the portions were large. I was going to order more but the guy who took the order said "just the two of you will have too much food; can you take it with you?" I couldn't because we were far from my hotel and my friends house and were going lots of places we would look weird with take out. I appreciated the heads up. We didn't even eat what I ordered. We wished we were hungrier.

Went here on a Sunday evening. Had to wait about 10 minutes for a table but that was no problem as the friendly staff were very welcoming and gave us menus to read. The menu is quite small compared to the UK Indian restaurants that I'm used to, but please don't let put you off, everything we ordered was nicely cooked and delicious. Surprisingly the level of spice and heat in the dishes is some what higher that we see in UK restaurants, and even the Biryani had quite a kick, but for us this was highly welcome. As we left one of the waiters said "hope to see you again" and if I lived anywhere within 20 miles of this place then he definitely would, but unfortunately it will have to wait until our next SF vacation.

Fell on this place tonight, we had a chicken korai and a chicken tikka masala, fantastic food better than I have ever had in England and the staff were lovely, only 35 bucks including sides etc. Highly recommend the Curry Leaf.

Not satisfied with few things : Girl on the counter was terrible, Bad customer service. They looked each other and talked so noisy, Food was not OK either

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the city of San Francisco, which is a haven for foodies, it is rare to find a cheap bite. There are so many culinary excellencies that it is quite common for the cost of eating out to be exorbitant and that is the standard in SF. It is even rarer to find food that is delicious AND cheap. Come on in for a visit to Curry Leaf where you will find a busy restaurant with friendly service and great curries. We left here with very full stomachs, satisfied tastebuds and not-hurt wallets. Dinner for 2 was about $22 with two curries and breads. You order at the counter here and your food is brought to your table in a reasonable amount of time. If you like spice, ask for it because we found that medium spice was not enough for us.

You order at the cashier and help yourself to cutlery, plates and cold drinks from the fridge. The atmosphere here is unpretentious but the food absolutely delicious, just like eating proper street food in India. The mango lassi was the perfect cooling end to the meal.

Came here after reading reviews and wasn’t disappointed. We’re used to UK style curries, and this lived up to that standard. Great naan and pakoras. The curry was rich and tender. It is self serve but that’s not a problem. Just a shame this place isn’t bigger as you may need to wait for a table. Really reasonable prices, especially for SF.

We had samosas, naan, and paneer tika masala. They were all quite good. The restaurant itself is a small place and a very open feel between the customers and the kitchen. On a nice day, sitting outside is an option. Some of the experience is self serve, which is not fully explained by the staff. To be fair, they are quite friendly and helpful.

I tried the TM, smoothly! Unfortunately the self service is a little bit confusing but the wood was outstanding! It did outperform, I'll be back for sure!

EXCELLENT Indian food and reasonably priced. This was my favorite meal in San Francisco. I really liked the set up of ordering at the counter and self service for water, plates, utensils, etc. This worked perfectly with kids. The food was outstanding - even a little better than my favorite Indian restaurant in Austin, Texas. I would eat at Curry Leaf all the time if I lived in San Fran.

Tried several vegetarian and chicken entrees plus a few varieties of naan. All very tasty with good food quality and good portion sizes. Will be back.

When staying in Russian Hill, I decided to get take out and discovered wonderful Indian food a block and a half away. My order was ready when they said it would be, and was packed to stay warm and tasty. I had the Paneer Tikka Masala and Nan. The portions were generous at a value price. If I lived there, I would probably frequent this restaurant weekly.

Food was good. For $40 we got way too much food for 2 ppl. We couldn't near finish it 2 samosas 2 naans 2 dishes Rice and 1 drink. Naans were ok. The only complaint is the dishes need next to them if they are mild med or hot. As one dish blew my head off.

I had lamb curry and meet was super tender and tasty Price is good. Menu is small but great Do not forget to check Specials of the Day!!!

Went to Curry Leaf for a last dinner in the city and was looking for something within walking distance to where we were staying at Fisherman’s Wharf. We ordered the paneer tikka masala, chicken curry, naan, and biriyani. You order at the front and they bring the order to your table within a few minutes. I really enjoyed the food. My sister and friend thought it was a bit too spicy. I am not sure if you can order less spicy, but something to consider if you plan to go with more sensitive palates.

The place was packed, when we arrived here in the evening. It seems there were a lot of regulars,as I could see the part owner interacting with them. The restaurant in itself is simple. You place your orders by the cash counter first and proceed to your table. The menu has its usual favorites as you would expect in any Indian restaurant, but what sets this place apart is it's homely feel-straightforward,simple,tasty and wholesome! They have the daily specials too,so would recommend these.we tried the Goat curry,Chicken tikka masala,Aloo palak with rice and some fluffy garlic naan👍of course the mango lassi is perfect to balance those amazing spices. We wrapped our dining with a cuppa of soothing masala tea.I would definitely be looking out for this place next time I am around in San Francisco.

Good Indian, but a little too spicy. Price is correct. The rice and Naan portion is enough to share for 2.

Nice Indian food and quick (self) service. Good naan bread. Very nearby our hotel the Columbus inn and we were not dissapointed.

I love this food!! I use cumin and curry a lot. They nailed the flavor profile to the plate. I look forward to more dishes. Thx guys.

An authentic Indian restaurant with typical Punjabi touch. Excellent place for asians to have fresh food with Indian taste. We have tried ‘Palak Paneer’ & ‘Chola’ with ‘Butter Naan’ and ‘Jeera Rice’ during dinner. All the dishes were extremely delicious & tasty. Nice place for Indians. Would like to visit again during next visit .

We ate chicken byriani and also vegetarian. Very generous dishes (it is possible to have 1 byriani for 2 because the quantities served are very large) Orders must be placed at the counter and it is up to you to collect cutlery, napkins, etc. A good address. Be careful, spicy dishes are very spicy, it is best to ask to reduce the spices a little

Genuine Indian cuisine, spicy at the right point and very tasty (especially Samosa). The dishes are authentic and well prepared. There is no table service: you order at the checkout and pick up the dish when it is ready. Great choice for those looking for good food rather than a “restaurant” experience.

If your from London & want something as good as tayyabs, this is the place. BYO aswell. Best curry in San Fran.

The place is very simple. You take your own water and plate of the shelf. I ordered a Chicken Biryani and Garlic Nan. WOW!! Really tasty.

This place is more of a budget place. Its small and the prices are ok. But, to me, it looked more like a canteen. The food was excellent, nicely spiced and they do take-out. They have plenty of veggie choices on the menu. I will certainly come back here.

After reading reviews and I must say, I have a curry once or twice a week, the curries we got from the Curry Leaf was amazing to say the lest. Samosas where the best I ever had. The Naan was so good, the only thing disappointing (but is my personal taste) was not enough garlic on the garlic naan. All in all well worth the experience and tasty Indian food at a very reasonable price

One of the best restaurants for Pakistani / Indian food in the US. The place is not fancy but the food is excellent and above all fresh.

Food absolutely delicious, highly recommend, I had the lamb curry and the lamb melted in your mouth, the sauce was so flavoursome. Huge thank you to the amazing staff as well, my husband left our bag and it was waiting for us when we went back, thank you again 😊

We shared several dishes, rice, naan, tea, had plenty to eat food flavor, good value, and helpful staff

The food was absolutely fantastic. Everything was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The portions were excellent and the prices were more than fair. A little off the beaten path from tourist destinations, but well worth a little extra walking. If I lived around here, I would be eating at Curry Leaf all the time.

Finally, reasonable place to eat and lots of flavor to enjoy while you are around Fisherman's Wharf area. Highly recommend biryani rice (yes you can ask spicy if you wish) include thin naan with ground meat inside. Walking distance from nearby hotels on Columbus.

Not your typical Curry House but more like street food cooked and served in a café. Once you have found your table, you order our food at the counter, pick up your plate, knife and fork and wait for the food to be cooked. You collect it at the counter and return to your table. Strange experience. That said the food was really good and tasty.

I took the kids there for dinner. Mango smoothies were exceptional but filled us up in advance of the food being delivered. Chicken tikka masala a hit with kids but too much - we should have shared Effectively a self service joint.

Loved the food here.. completely unassuming and just bloomin tasty. Haven't had a curry yet in this city to match it. Brought me back to tayabs and Lahore of London's finest.

We were very excited to try this place, but wasnt great experience. The food had to be prepaid which found odd for Indian place. Then on asking cutlery and water, we had to get our own, which would have been fine excpet they didnt even tell where it was. Eventually the food itself was very plain and did not have traditional Indian flavour. Overall, disappointed we tried this.

Had a lovely dinner here. Quite a busy little place. No airs and graces - just serving good quality Indian food. Would recommend end it

UK family with 2 boys, aged 9 and 11. No frills service. Lay your own table, wait 40 mins, place your own order, get your own water. Never experienced that before, but still 5 stars. You'll find it's full of local Indian families (shows quality) and youngsters (shows value). Great tasting spicy dishes - veggie byriani a must. Children happy too - the Olympics on TV was a welcome distraction for them.

As a person of Indian heritage I am very familiar with Indian flavors. I was very pleased with the flavors of the food here. I had the lamb curry and it reminded me of the lamb I eat at family meals. The spice level was just right! This place is a hidden gem! It is casual dining but great quality food.

My sister and I stayed in North Beach and wanted a little break from the Italian food options, so we stopped here after taking a bus tour one day. Overall, it was great. Samosas were terrific-- some of the best I've had-- and the karahi chicken was delicious. Bengan bharta was also tasty-- though spicier than we expected. No matter-- we finished it all! Rice is ordered separately, and don't forget to grab plates along with your napkins and silverware. Not an ideal place for small children. Great spot to people-watch. A little on the expensive side, but you do get a lot of food.

We love this place. The food is nice with generous serving. And the people running the place are also friendly. With their reasonable price, it's a real good deal.

This is a great place serving traditional Indian/Pakistani food. Everything seemed fresh although we didn't have wait long for the food once it was ordered. There is no table service and it's self service with drinks/plates etc, but this was explained when ordering at the counter. Our meal for 2 came in at under $35, bargain!

If you feel like something other than Italian while visiting San Francisco’s North Beach area, try Curry Leaf. Excellent veg and non veg options. Inexpensive compared to most other local eateries. I really enjoyed the chicken vindaloo. My vegetarian colleagues enjoyed the authentic vegetarian options tremendously. Indoor seating only for about 30 people. Food is prepared fresh so there is a short wait. I will visit again.

Tasty little spot on the outskirts of North Beach. They don't serve any alcohol, but you can grab a six pack or bottle of wine from the liquor store across the street.

Just had a very nice dinner at Curry Leaf. We had a Chicken Tikka Masala, Karahi Chicken, and a Chana Masala. All the dishes were well spiced and very flavorful. The nan was the best I've had in a long time and the rice was also perfectly cooked. The 3 dishes easily fed 2 hungry adults. Very simple, relaxed setting and friendly staff. Overall, a diamond in the rough and a place I will return to next visit to San Fran!

Very nice and tasty food for a very reasonable price! The menu us a bit limited but very good. I had the paneer tika masala (vegetarian) which was great! The place might be crowded during dinner time, we waited around 10-15 minutes to get a table.

Simple setting, counter serve style. Prices were good. Food was above average for the price. We had chicken tikka masala, kabob and beef nihari. The beef nihari was AMAZING - very tender and just the right kind of spicy. Will go back for it.

Had dinner here having seen it recommended on Trip Advisor. We had to wait for a table as it was so busy which I always think is a good sign. I was able to watch them prepare the dishes fresh. I enjoyed watching them make and cook the naan in the tandoor. The food was so tasty, full of flavour and heat. The menu wasn’t huge but it didn’t need to be. We had 4 main curries, 2 rice, 2 naan and 1 roti between 4 which was plenty. I would probably have got one curry for my kids to share. I wish I lived here so I could eat here more regularly! By the time we left patrons were queuing out the door!

we tried this place after searching for indo/pak restaurants since we were staying at fishermans wharf and during our short stay of 4 days we ended up eating here twice. The food is absolutely delicious, full of flavor and offers consistently good service. We had the lamb biryani and beef nihari both of which were fingerlicking tasty. If ur in the area this restaurant is a must go to. Its a small place so usually stays busy but service is quick.

Delicious Indian/Pakistani food. We had garlic naan, raita, and two chicken dishes which we added plain rice to. The chicken was very spicy! Everything tasted amazing. It is a self service restaurant.

A nice place for Indian food. Operated by Young guys from India, the food is good by SF standards. It is a small place and serving is self, however after moving around the US and wanting to change rh the taste buds, one can definitely give this a try.

Had high hopes for curry leaf. Nice little place, but the lamb kebab wasn’t what I expected. Hard to cut into seemed as it was pre made and then microwaved, and at least give 2 kebabs not 1. The onions on the plate should of been cooked too. Main course chicken tikka with garlic naan. Naan was really good but unfortunately the chicken tikka wasn’t. The sauce tasted like it was burnt and the chicken pieces seemed as if it was over cooked a little tough to bite into. Overall ok place.

Small place where you lay your table yourself but food is fresh and good. I had a good gluten free dinner with pakoras and chicken tikka massala. And excellent mango lassis !

We are from Birmingham uk a big curry destination with some excellent places to eat after being away for two weeks we were missing our regular curry we had read about the curry leaf so made it a place to go it was delicious the lamb curry was very good if I wasn’t going home tomorrow I would definitely be returning

I was hoping this would be a little bit nicer place, but the food was very good. Probably the cheapest meal we ate in SF. You order at the counter and even get your own silverware. They do bring the food out to you. So if you're looking for a nice sit-down romantic meal, this is probably not the place. But if you're not looking for atmosphere, it seems like a nice neighborhood place with good food and low prices. I would trade this place for my way over-priced Chinatown Restuarant any day of the week. (See other review)

Great little place with some really good food. not fancy but cheap and cheerful! Enjoyed our meal (take out).

We were driving down the west coast from Calgary, Canada to San Francisco and being Indians, we made it a point to try out the most reputed Indian restaurant in every city we visited en route. However , it was in Sanfrancisco when we accidentally bumped into "Curryleaf" while strolling down to the Fisherman's warf, we realized that it was the best Indian restaurant we had visited in our trip so far. The restaurant itself was quite basic but the preparations were superb and mouthwatering.Tandoori chicken and fish, butter chicken masala and Karhai chicken are a must try for non vegetarians. For vegetarians dal fry and paneer korma are worth the try and don't miss out on the garlic naan and kheer ( sweet dish). We had four meals in this beautiful and friendly restaurant during our stay in San Francisco and were treated as family by the extremely friendly staff. Interestingly, most of them as we learnt come from Garhwal in India. To top it all up,the food was very reasonably priced.

Great food. Got dal, paneer and malai kofta (which was the best). Roti delivery is slow but they get them to you hot. Didnt expect to feed 3 adults for $50 in this area of SF! Taste is quite close to indian.

Wonderfully fresh tasting authentic Indian food, I had spicy spinach curry and partner had Tikka Massala, both great with naans and rice. Looks rough and ready but asians and locals eating here alike is a good sign

Was surprised by this cozy restaurant. A small place. Tandoori chicken, biriyani, butter chicken, naan. All were awesome. Take a table and order. Get your water jug, silverware and plates from a corner table. Freshly prepared food. Awesome. Good value for money. Clean restroom.

We got a great dinner here, so much so that we returned a second time during our week's stay in San Francisco. Several interesting vegetarian options for my dining partner, and my chicken dish was escellent.

Popped in here on last night of business trip. It is like a cafe, self-service BUT food was amazing. I had veg pakora and karahi chicken. I am used to great curries in Glasgow (Scotland), this was comparable with the best. It is basic but clean surroundings, popular with locals and those in the know. No alcohol menu if you are wanting a drink with your meal. These guys should expand. If ever in San Fran again I would go back. Excellent.

Staff very friendly, food is fresh and tastes great. Clean! Very casual and priced fairly. My wife and I had plenty of food for 35.00 Would return

After a long bike ride to Tiburon and back, I need something quick and easy to eat. I saw the sign for Curry Leaf and stepped inside. Small restaurant with delicious food. My meal did not come with rice so I asked for some and got it with no problem at all. I hope to visit when I am in San Francisco again.

Good food, reasonably priced, authentic cuisine, yummy naan. With an easy walk of the two Marriott hotels.

We had an early curry. Coming from the UK we have high standards for Indian food. The food here was superb. The service a little absent. I ordered Lamb Rogan, which was truly delicious.

Variety of dish selection, including vegetarian selection. We ordered Panir and Chicken Tikal that were very good Be aware that the Panic is very hot but was very good. It's not a fancy place, self order and no waiters. Prices : 10-12 for main course. Recommended if you want to eat well, enjoy it.

We are a family of 4 from the uk and arranged to meet friends here from the Napa Valley. We visited after reading reviews on trip advisor and we were not disappointed. Food is amazing! We had 4 different curries and every one was delicious. I recommend the chana masala. They don't serve alcohol but did not mind that we bought our own from the liquor store across the road. This was our best meal in San Francisco and the cheapest too! We paid $55 for 4 curries, 2 portions of rice and a naan bread. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Simple and friendly restaurant with delicious food. My family really enjoyed our meals, it was very tasty and genuine.

This is a little gem, pure basics inside, don’t expect a fancy resturant. The food is perfect with a precise menu it is as you would eat in India. Total focus on food & service and not the less important trimmings deemed essential in most restaurants. No alcohol just soft drinks. One of the best restaurants in California. Please go and injoy the experience and love the food.

We visited this place after a recommendation from a friend who knows I am a big fan of Indian food! This place has a very casual, relaxed atmosphere which was perfect after a day of walking around SF. The staff were very helpful and helped me choose what I wanted to eat, everything sounded so good! You take your own plate and cutlery from the shelf and self serve your own drinks too. They bring the food to your table. I had chicken karahi which was delicious! So fresh and very tasty. We shared rice and naan bread and i was stuffed after the meal! My boyfriend had a tikka masala which he said was a little spicier than when he usually has this but a lot more flavoursome! It was great value and i would definitely return. Delicious food, relaxed atmosphere and lovely staff. Thank you!

My wife and I lived in the UK for 3 years and curry is the number 1 takeout food. We got take out for dinner and we were very happy with our food. It rivals our fav UK take out and we will be back.

We sought this place out having visited 4 years ago just after it had opened. So pleased to see it doing so well. Love the informal feel and collecting your own drinks and plates etc. We had Chicken Tikka Massala (spicier than our English tastes are used to), the tandoori chicken and the lamb curry. All absolutely delicious. And the naan. Oh my word, lighter than air! So obviously the place is packed. You will wait for a table and the food is cooked fresh, so takes time to arrive. But that is what you expect in a place like this. Food this good can’t be rushed and is worth whatever the wait is. Seriously! So good. If they weren’t closed on a Monday we’d be going again tonight for our final holiday meal as my husband has his eye on the biryani. Maybe in another 4 years...

Great Indian restaurant. Expect to serve yourself, but the curry, naan, and rice are worth it. We had chicken curry and chicken tikka masala, both terrific.

We had somosas and mushroom keema with rice for $19. The atmosphere was ordinary but the food was very, very good. Full of flavor.

It's a pleasure to find such a friendly atmosphere in a self service, especially when the food is so accurately made. Perfect balanced flavors, great cooking, no fancy ingredients...excellent as it is!

Simple down to earth non pretentious place. Order at the front, then go get your plates and drinks, but they will bring your food. Ordered medium spicy, was not too spicy.

Fantastic food! Especially loved the veggie samoas and the paneer. Delicious! Quick service and good sized portions in relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff!

On our girls night out, we wanted to take in the sights and sound of North Beach. Our original choice was fully books so we opted for Curry Leaf which is nearby. We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday night and were able to find a table right away. It's a casual/self service restaurant where you'd order at the counter and the wait staff bring you your dishes. The tandoori fish and the chicken tikka masala were the top dishes, just the right amount of spices. Restaurant is clean and staff friendly. I had a good experience and look forward to going back to try the other dishes.

Excellent taste! fast service! Highly recommend! We reached there after getting down from the Hop on Hop off bus tour at Lombard Street stop. The food here was beyond our expectations! Friendly staff and reasonably priced!!

A very enjoyable dining experience. All the dishes were quite spicy but enjoyable, the garlic naan bread was a particular hit with our son. The help yourself to plates, cutlery and water was a quaint change to waited service. The staff were very pleasant and the cafe had constant customers both for take away and dine in. It actually made a nice change from seafood or Italian which seems to be abundant round the Fishermans Wharf area. If you like curries then you can't go wrong with the CurryLeaf on Columbus.

The place was full for lunch, but we grabbed a few quick wraps (kaati rolls) and ate at the tables out on the sidewalk. Highly recommend the Paneer Masala roll (cottage cheese in spices) and the Sheek Kabab Roll. Really tasty and fresh!

11/10 food is not good looking but tastes amazing. Nice and clean place, great pricing, amazing value. Can recommend anything really, spent 50$ for dinner for 2 and had leftovers.

The dishes were lovely and genuine. So the food has it all. The place in itself is not so charming but that's not what counts here :)

Chose restaurant based on Maps recommendations. Excellent choice of meals, quick, delicious, great value for money

It’s a small place with a limited menu, if what they cook is exceptional. The flavor profile of the food is exactly what it should be. Wonderful flavors, good portion size, and a sense of satisfaction when finished.

We were staying in San Francisco for a week and visited this place twice (would have gone three times but it's closed on Mondays!) The food was delicious, so tasty. We ordered vegetarian dishes, an aubergine one and paneer tikka masala, with rice and a jalapeño naan. It was so good that we ordered the same on our second visit! The restaurant was spotlessly clean and the staff were very friendly. The only downside was no alcohol... though The Saloon bar is nearby so we popped there for a few drinks after our meal... happy days!

The good thing about Trip Advisor is the advice and comments that people put down then you can then make your mind up before going somewhere. Well all that helped to make our minds up and we were really not disappointed. Fantastic (genuine) service, great food and great prices. What a change from the usual inflated prices, massive recommended service charges etc. These guys really know how to run a successful business. And so genuinely pleasant. A great business model. Well done. Totally agree with all the previous positive reviewer comments. Try it out

Paneer was soft and fresh. Onion naan could do much better with some real quantity of onions in the naan. The food was tasty overall. Food is served at the table. However, you must grab the plate and utensils you need from a shelf. Even water and glass. There is no concept of customer service here. The guy who did the billing was alright. The rest just did not seem to care. They were chatting away in an unknown language. Sometimes they spoke Hindi(I speak fluent Hindi) but it did make us uncomfortable.

Outstanding food. Really friendly staff. Lovely vibe. Good price. As visitors from the UK we dropped onto this place by chance and so glad we did.
Outstanding food and service!
This place is conveniently located in downtown Concord, the capital of New Hampshire. The place is immaculate. Wear anything from casual to business casual. I prefer dressing up becaue the place is so lovely. The Indian cuisine and the service are outstanding. The staff make you feel special. They have a full bar. It was my birthday, and they played 2 different song programs and signs on their digital screen, and a luscious dessert, gratis. It was wonderful! The restaurant was open for only 3 months, but they were fully prepared. We'll be back!
