Great Fish & Chips

By Jeff F |

After visiting the Navy Pier, we stopped here for lunch. We ordered the fish & chips and were very satisfied. The fish was beer battered, flaky and perfectly cooked. Very satisfied.

Everyone was happy!

By Kimberly G |

This was my mothers top pick for her birthday dinner on our recent visit to Chicago. We made reservations and due to issues with our bus not showing up we had to call last minute to change our reservation time. They were very accommodating and it was no issue! I have been to Ireland twice so i was super excited that the table bread was Irish Soda Bread and they had Smithwicks on tap!! I wasn't super hungry so i ordered the crab cake sliders which were very good. My daughter had the burger sliders and my son had the mac and cheese (said it was the best). I can't remember what my mom had. We finished up our meal with raspberry sorbet and it was fantastic! Our service was good and had no issues!

Great Place!

By Rebecca F |

We were looking for a casual restaurant near our hotel on a rainy night, and I'm so glad we found this place. The service was very good and the food was even better. Definitely an upscale pub!

Great bar.

By Christine92 |

We had a drink there while on our way to Navy Pier, my Husband said it was the nicest pint of Guinness he has had outside of Dublin. We returned the following day for lunch which was lovely. We had a lovely chat with Brendan the owner and found him very friendly and welcoming. The staff were very attentive and polite. We would recommend this bar for great food, great service and great hospitality.

Neighborhood Irish Pub

By Rob w |

The D4 sits in the first floor of a Streetervile high rise apartment building and is a wonderful respite on Ohio. In the winter, their fireplaces and cozy corners will warm your soul and body. While in the summer, their outdoor patio is just as nice. It only gets direct sun for a few hours though. The Lobster Mac and Cheese is excellent, as are the Sliders and the Burgers. It has an excellent selection of craft beer, and the bartenders make excellent cocktails.

Love the atmosphere

By genny2018 |

Had a burger and drinks, friendly service, fantastic drink and great burger. The furniture is really cute and quaint. The restaurant is casual but has great aviance.

nice place for a weeknight dinner

By a r |

D4 is around the corner and across the street from the Embassy Suites hotel, Magnificent Mile. It was a quick walk down the block. The place was quiet on a Tuesday night, which happened to be $4 taco night. Why tacos in an Irish Pub?? The menu also includes sandwiches and more traditional fare, like fish and chips and shepherds pie. I tried two of the tacos. The skirt steak taco was very good, better than the carnitas taco, which had a sweetish sauce. Service was friendly and quick. OK selection of beers, including craft beers. The decor is traditional and makes for a cozy atmosphere.

Enjoyable

By Susan M |

Really good food and beverage, the bloody mary in particular! And they serve Harp's. Great staff, both bar and table.

Irish Spot Near The River

By Craig C |

In Chicago on business, had lunch at D4 Irish pub. Fabulous selection of Irish and American craft beers. Extensive food menu with large portions. Had the half sandwich and soup special. Very good. Service was great at 2:00pm but probably packed during the lunch hour.

I like this place. Good for family and friends

By jscav |

Nice menu with Irish and non Irish food. Good drink selection and kids menu. The steak frites was good as were the brussel sprouts.

Terrible service

By HMom2 |

Went here for dinner and had the worst service. There were two of us and we were seated right away but waited 15 minutes for someone to stop by and take our drink order than another 15 minutes to get the drinks. Needless to say we did not eat dinner there.

Modest food, terrible service

By Buck-I-Runner |

Went out with a small group of professional friends, looking for a casual location near Michigan Avenue; experienced memorably poor service; I've worked as a restaurant server and understand that we all have bad days, but... geez.... our server made sure that everyone knew it by taking it out on us! When the restaurant's credit card service went down, she made a point of tacking on her own generous tip. Again, I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to service industry hospitality and even try to be a hospitable customer, but there's simply no hope for some! The food? So-so -- rather forgettable. Ambiance? The same -- nothing remarkable. The address is the best thing going for this place.

Good Irish pub! Walked over

By swimdiva |

Good Irish pub! Walked over and gave this one a try. The Cobb salad was excellent as was the chicken sandwich. Drinks were vodka martini, Chardonnay wine and an old fashioned. Service was attentive and food was very good. I will return!

Great food! Great Service!

By Hacker78 |

We hosted an after wedding breakfast/brunch at D4 Sunday morning for about 100 people and everything was outstanding! The food was fantastic! The eggs Benedict was delicious! Kipp Corkill, the manager, was great! We were about 30 min early and had about 20 more guests than anticipated. Kip was unflappable and he and the staff handle it all without issue. The staff was very attentive and everyone was very pleased with the food and service! Thank you Kipp and staff!

Really Good

By Rich A |

Large Irish Pub, drinks a little on the expensive side, food was amazing if a little big ! Had a small plate of chicken with fries, it was so huge I couldn't finish it, but the staff would box it up for you. Staff really friendly, they should check on the male toilets more often though, as more than once the towel holder was jammed or missing towels (I reported this to the manager more than once) Overall, a good vibe going on in this place

Business Lunch

By LPhocas |

Chopped Chicken salad is AMAZING! It has corn, avocado and chives! Just delicious!!! Service was fantastic! Great Irish looking restaurant!

Stick with the beer

By Bucky1836 |

Quick, impersonal seating. Overwhelmed server said hi and then didn't follow up for a long time. Ordered the steak and frites. Steak was the driest piece of meat I can remember having in a long team and the fries were so salty I was drinking water all night. Thankfully, the beer was fresh and cold.

For a hungry group

By Maria Raquel L |

Very large restaurant with seats both inside and outside. Huge portions, even the small plates, but the food was good. The table we sat inside was high and although the chairs were also high, having the feet hanging was a bit uncomfortable. Luckily the service was fast and friendly. We had a very late lunch and were happy to find a place that was servicing non stop. There's also a nice bar where people can drink, eat and chat. Nice and bright pub atmosphere.

Too long a wait

By 984bp |

Although we enjoyed the food here the other factors entered into this review. We were there on a Saturday evening during Labor Day weekend. We found seating outside on the terrace immediately but then is when everything slowed down. We should have taken a clue in the amount of time to have our server show up. After ordering we waited over an hour for our food. The restaurant was obviously understaffed with the server acting as hostess, server, busboy etc... The delays were not her fault. The man that finally brought our meals as we were preparing to leave, was obviously the owner of the place and apologized profusely for the delays. Like I mentioned the food was good, no issues there. But we even had to wait for the bill and for it to process, sending the wife's back to our hotel while the men waited for the bill to be paid. We may have caught them on a bad night but come on, it was Labor Day weekend evening. You should staff accordingly.

Reliable, good upscale bar food

By Aldchitown |

Never blown away, but it’s a casual bar. With better than average bar food. The chicken tenders are killer as well as the fish and chips. Reasonably priced, great happy hour specials, and a surprisingly great wine selection (by the glass and bottle)

Disappointing but worth a second visit.

By Paddy L |

Recently, I met a friend for dinner at D4 and we were both excited to try it. Unfortunately, we selected two of their small plates, the fish tacos and some type of cauliflower dish - both of which were disappointing. The amount of spices in both plates overpowered the food to the point we couldn't taste the main ingredients. I believe had they not been so "over spiced" the food might have been really good. Next time we visit we will stick to the Irish selections on their main menu. The atmosphere was wonderful in the place and seeing how crowded it was, I have to believe this is actually a popular place in the city. The service was fine our server was pleasant overall. I think I need to visit again before ruling this place out entirely.

Great ambiance and beers

By Carol R |

We stopped in for a beer and appetizer on Friday ... the beer was excellent, the service was excellent, and the poutine was large and tasty. I love the dark Irish pub wood/look of the place inside (outside it's modern glass). THEN we had my daughter's wedding reception there - it was wonderful! The servers were excellent, the food buffet was amazing and they kept it full for several hours, the desserts were also wonderful. Every cocktail was perfect. I can't wait to go back again some day for a regular meal and several Irish beers.

Great food, not so Irish.

By savvytravelmom |

Our large group tried something different and shared. I liked the Beyond Burger and the crab cake sliders. Fries were good and the beer selection was great. There was really not much Irish fare in this place, however. It’s just a step up from typical bar food.

Nice place for a good meal

By B_J |

Looking for a good meal and found the D4 Irish Pub based on the guidance of the hotel staff. Friendly people and enough to choose from. Had a tasteful burger and finished the meal with a desert that was more than enough for two people.

Great food in a fun atmosphere

By Sue Ellen D |

We ate here on our first night in town. We wanted something close to our hotel. It was an awesome find. The food was great and our server was even better! Everything we ordered came out hot and delicious! Family friendly too!

Really good service and high quality food.

By jcd6497 |

Went there with a large group and had a great experience. Very nice environment and spacious rooms. Food came up quickly and was very good quality.

Comfort Food

By WILLIAM B |

Arrived in Chicago from south Fl. A 50 degree drop in temps. So the chicken pot pie for $20 was perfect. Rex Goliath wine, sold at Publix for $9 (and sometimes a BOGO) was a mere $32 a bottle plus the double digit local sales tax. Maybe typically mark up for Chicago. I haven’t been here for many years.

Better than a 4 but not a 5

By Dennis R |

It is a shame you cannot rate places with half a star. D4 deserves 4 and a half, but it is not a 5. With a group of 10 we had many different items. all were good. Drinks a bit pricey but NOT for streeterville. You should be happy if you try this place.

Outside Dining on Ohio

By KerriSTL |

We came upon D4 on an evening walk about after our Chicago arrival. Came upon D4 and settled in for a nice eveing of people watching on the patio. We shared a delicious Lobster Roll, done right from the bread to the fresh minced green onions. Then taking a cue from the businessmen at the next table we tried queso and guacamole. The Plantation Colada I enjoyed so thoroughly it was gone far too soon, but managed to slow down with a follow up Cosmo. Mikayla was our server and we had a visit with the manager who recommended some Italian places for the next days adventure.

Brunch was great!

By anlaley |

We happened to be walking by looking for a place for breakfast and they had just put their brunch sign out. The D4 eggs Benedict was delicious. Benedict topped with a tomato and corned beef and the eggs were perfectly poached. The fried potatoes that came with it were easily some of the best potatoes I have had. The others with me had the Irish omelette and the corned beef hash and eggs. No one had any complaints on their food and we will be returning again to try other things on the menu. The atmosphere is very cool in here and this place is very clean. Seemed like everyone was doing their part to keep the place looking cleaned up and welcoming.

Friendly bar, great atmosphere!

By Laurie S |

We stopped in for a drink. Dan was our bartender. Service was great and the atmosphere was cozy. I would recommend this establishment. This is our second time here and we enjoyed both visits.

Fine

By L H |

Large, pleasant place. Decent burger would have been better if it hadn't gone cold sitting in the kitchen while I was waiting for my take-out order at the bar. Average fries.

Excellent good and service

By smoonstl |

When we went to D4 it was a Friday night and we had no reservations. They had an event going on so half the place was unavailable for seating. We decided to wait and it took over an hour to get a table. The staff were very accommodating, though. The wait staff were very attentive and even though we took our older kids to a bar, they had a decent kids menu and treated the kids to ice cream. The Shepard's pie was delicious as well as their salad and adult grilled cheese. Highly recommended (with a reservation).

Toddy was good with small plates!

By RamSRam |

Decided to go with small plates (they were rather large though) and toddy. On a cool Fall evening was a great choice. As always D4 is good.

Not working for me

By jefflef |

I've been here several times. Not many options in the neighborhood so thought I'd try it one more time. Burger ok. Beer selection ok. But service (at the bar) seriously lacking. And an odd vibe from those sitting around me. I won't be trying it again. Too bad. This area really need a good option of this sort.

Bar food

The menu provides normal pub grub for Chicago. The staff is attentive and polite. The atmosphere is relaxed

Great Irish Bar

By Laurie K |

We came to Chicago to visit my son for the Thanksgiving holiday and upon arriving we decided on this Irish corner bar. Our server was Goran and he was great you just really had to pay attention to him as he has an accent.. He was very good at explaining the menu and the different beer choices. My husband doesn’t really care for IPA beers he is a bud light guy, (which they don’t carry) so he tried a beer called War Pig which was a lighter IPA he really liked it was a smoother lighter IPA . We had drinks then ordered food one had the shrimp salad, one had the fish and chips, one had the fish tacos (that he liked but should have asked for no black beans) and I had the D4 burger minus the bun which was thick, juicy and big it was delicious. We sat for quite some time at our table and Goran was great about it since I hadn’t seen my son in 6 months. Was a great place rooms with tables near fire places and a room the looked like a library. It was also decorated for the holidays which made it nice. Quaint place to stop have a drink or glass of wine and an appetizer highly recommend stopping here on your visit to the windy city

Probably the best breakfast we’ve had in Chicago!

By Jyl2323 |

Like many other reviewers, stumbled upon this place enroute to another breakfast place (‘Yolk’), but as we had had breakfast at another Yolk branch earlier this week, decided to try this Irish Pub. Very friendly & helpful waiting staff, ample & delicious food. Would thoroughly recommend their ‘normal’ French toast, which consists of three massive slices of brioche French toast, fluffy & perfectly cooked, served with fresh berries & maple syrup on the side. Have it with bacon, well, when in Rome.... You won’t be disappointed! (Better than ‘Wildberry’ & ‘Brunch’ too.)

Big Lunch

By RRH01 |

Large lunch menu with lots of sandwich choices. The egg salad sandwich was very good. Large selection of beers, imported and domestic. Prices are a little high for lunch.

Shepherd’s pie by da fire

By J-Dave |

Most of my family and I recently stopped by for dinner after working up an appetite walking up and down the magnificent mile. We got a seat near the fireplace, which was much appreciated on such a cold and rainy evening. My wife and daughter split the chicken strips appetizer and a side of fries and they enjoyed them. My youngest son got a breaded chicken sandwich of some sort and said it twas good. I had the shepherd’s pie. It tasted great, but I was somewhat disappointed to find that it contained no carrots whatsoever despite the description in the menu stating that it contained carrots. As we all know, Forrest and Jenny go together like peas and carrots, so it goes without saying that I wished there were some carrots in my shepherd’s pie. Nevertheless, it was a nice meal and the service was great.

Not your average dive bar

By Suzanne G |

This place was listed as one of Chicago's Top 10 Dive Bars but it's the most upscale dive I've ever been in. The decor is high end Irish pub--lots of dark woods and brass-- and the drinks are served in big heavy glasses. I was even corrected by the bartender for mispronouncing Smithwicks. We only stopped for a drink so I didn't try to food so I can't comment on that but I don't have any burning desire to get back there to try it either. It was a fun but slightly pretentious place.

Nice Brunch

By Sunny Sunday |

Looking for a place to enjoy a nice Brunch while in Chicago and without looking found this Irish Pub. The food was amazing, the French Toasts were great. Also the Chilaquiles was something... perfectly cooked, with and Egg on top with Guacamole. The service was good too. Definitely is a place you need to visit.

Great Service

By Tammy R |

So although I wouldn’t say this was an Irish Pub as they were missing a lot of traditional Irish dishes I am use to seeing on that type of menu, the food and service was great. Great drinks as well.

Monster Food and great value.

By i8manutd2017 |

We were recommended to visit this place by our hotel reception. So glad we went. The service was first rate as was the food. The portions are huge and I don't just mean big they are MONSTER sized! Decor of the pub is rather dark & dingy with a lot of dark wood and dimmed lighting but I suppose that is what the owners want to achieve. Good seating and comfortable chairs with a big log fire going in the hearth. Given that it was a cold January 2020 when we visited this was very welcome indeed. We had to have doggy bags as my wife and I could not eat all the food placed in front of us and even finishing the left overs from lunch that evening was a task. Well done D4. A great place, great food and great service and value for money.

Classic Irish Pub

By Henry B |

I attended a retirement celebration. We had a private room with doors that close (didn't cut out much noise because the doors go half way up and the rest is open-seems to be a popular thing in many pubs these days - bad execution of a bad idea). The waiter was knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. The beer and spirit selections were pretty extensive with an emphasis on Irish. The menu also has a distinct Irish slant with many pub standards - fish and chips, Shepherd's pie, etc. The portions are large and the food fresh and tasty.

Yup the dubs

By Wanderer724274 |

We thought it was very expensive until the food came out and the portions were humongous. The magnets/ bulmers was not up to much, but little can be expected from an import I guess. The service was good. Naturally it wasn’t authentically Irish, thought the Dublin four prices were reflected in 9$ baby Guinness. If looking for an authentic Irish experience I would say go to ireland. If looking for good food and good service I’d say to come here.

Authentic Irish Pub!

By Richard F |

Within walking distance to the central hub of Chicago Riverwalk and Million DollarMile . make reservations as this place gets full quick. Great bar selection of Irish, Domestic and other import beers. Recommend the shepherd's pie, chicken pot pie and the fish and chips. The fish is hand cut on premises, not frozen from a supplier. You can sense the pride in ownership. He welcomes you coming or going from his spot by the front door!

Quick, cute & delicious

By Work To Travel |

The service here was FAST, our waitress-Rachel- was professional, charming & quick. The food was fabulous, the drinks were great (at the suggestion of our server) and altogether the ambiance and staff were great. Have recommend & will continue to recommend to eat here.

Very pleasant experience

By AUBeachPotato |

We stopped here to get out of the cold on our walk back from Navy Pier. The service was attentive and d friendly. The place was very warm and welcoming. I would definitely go back for another pint here.

Great restaurant

By Scott B |

My wife and I recently moved to Streeterville and have quickly made D4 on of our go to places. Great food and service.

Fantastic!

By mwooduk |

11 of us are in town for an aviation tradeshow and staying at the Sheraton Riverwalk. We found this pub on Tripadvisor and could not have been happier. First the wonderful warm welcome from Juliana, followed by fantastic service and delicious food. The shepherd’s pie was outstanding and so were the steak and fries. For dessert, everyone raved about the bread and butter pudding, and the apple pie and ice cream, and we could not have been happier with our evening. Fortunately, the restaurant was not too noisy and we were able to have a decent conversation. Service and food were outstanding. Highly recommended.

What a great place!!

By Ric |

We walked up from the Embassy and what a surprise. The food was great! We walked over twice after hitting the higher rated places. We where seated promptly both times. Once at the back of the restaurant and once by the door. Not great seats but the server was great. His recommendations to our group where spot on. We had a variety of menu items from Shepherds Pie to the D4 burger and desserts. We tried them all, their twist on tiramisu was really good but enough for two or 3. If in Chicago, staying at the Embassy on Miracle Mile, walk over and have a great meal without breaking the bank.

An Inviting Place to Eat

By JWR10 |

Really impressed with the ambience, reminded me of a restaurant I went to near Ballsbridge Jury's many years ago when watching Rugby at Landsdowne Rd. Food was also good, I had the Corned Beef sandwich which was huge. We were a family of six in Chicago to visit the Christmas Markets and thoroughly enjoyed dinner at D4. Our waiter was Goran, excellent service. Will definitely visit again, next time in that area of Chicago.

Good but not wow.

By MiddleAgedTravlrs |

Stopped there after we landed in town and we were starving. The service was a bit slow for a mid day on Sunday. The food was good. My hubby felt the burger was greasy but I enjoyed it. The menu seemed limited to me for an Irish pub.

Nice food and good service

By Katie T |

Lovely spot. A gang of 20 of us walked in off the street and they accommodated us for food no problem, the staff were great and really helpful. Food was also lovely, and drinks were great too!! Not a super traditional Irish bar, but a nice spot all the same.

Loved it!! Lobster mac & cheeze rocks!

By Dave A |

So glad I found this little gem. The food is fantastic and lots of great choices. I would highly recommend giving it a try.

Amazing to watch f1!

By Albert Camilleri |

They accommodated us brilliantly putting on the f1 race thanks to Rui. Food and service also excellent, especially the mashed potatoes. Thank you!

Loved it!

By Janice R |

The space is gorgeous, and the food was really tasty. We both had the pulled pork sandwich -- had to take half home because it was so huge. The best part was when the owner came over and talked to us for about a half an hour -- all about coming from Ireland and because we are taking a trip in July, all the places we had to see in Dublin. Just a delightful evening. We went after our Shakespeare visit (BTW, Midsummer Night's Dream -- gotta' go!). We will be back at Shakespeare in a couple of weeks and will be going back to D4.

Tomorrow the Wedding!

By WendyBirdie |

Tomorrow would be the wedding, tonight was guests dinner and meet up with us he wedding party after rehearsal dinner. We were tucked in a smaller slightly private space and had five in our group. Lamb Chops, Shepard Pie, Mini burgers, Sliders and the dish that has me dreaming of trying Lobster Mac every where I go and being disappointed. Their Lobster Mac was the crème de la crème of that dish!! As for the atmosphere it’s a pub! Totally enjoyable

Chicken fingers and Shepherd's Pie

By Lisa F |

Our family met here last Saturday night for the first time. We expected to find a nice pub with a good beer selection and reasonable prices, which we did. What we didn't expect was above average food! The chicken fingers were outstanding and everyone's favorite, with Shepherd's pie as a close second. We also tried the nachos and Ruben sandwich which were good, but not special in our opinion.

good food

By Denise Z |

I had the French onion soup and it was very good. my husband had the sliders and my daughter had the fish tacos and both said they were very good.

Irish Treat

By smitty237 |

The Loews Hotel suggested D4. Fantastic suggestion. From the outside, I was concerned. It was glass and chrome. Inside, it was the dark wood that I was expecting. We ate inside, but there was a nice outside, garden area for dining. The food was very good. The service was outstanding. I am returning to the area in a few months. I will be headed back to D4.

Nice atmosphere, friendly service

By dts617 |

Nice and friendly atmosphere. Modern and open design. A nice selection of beer. We decided to go for the burger which was delicious. We would come back.

Great New Place

By Raphael L |

I met a friend for lunch at D4 Irish Pub and Cafe and had a great experience. They have nice open booths or comfortable tables to sit at with with open leg room. I was greeted warmly with a smile by hostess REBECCA and had great service from JENNIFER, even though I tried calling her at least 15 different first names. She handled my humor with diplomacy, great humor and a smile. The smoked salmon and fish tacos were excellent as were the JOHNNY walker and Tequila pours. If you have not been there, go now and you too will have good food and a great experience. Once you try it, I am sure that you too will go back for more.

Irish as heck

By Nathanearl |

Great looking bar, reminded us of home, big selection of beers and spirits, proper pub feel, massive portions!, I had the Poutine which was awesome “it’s a must try” cheesy chips and gravy and beef, great with a drink and I bet you it’s just as good eating it walking home afte a good drink...

Fresh and Delicious

By libroschica |

We visited here because my mom wanted an Irish Pub atmosphere, and it had good ratings online. Our server was very friendly and the food was extremely fresh. We shared 2 appetizers, the caprese salad and the onion rings, and then I had the sliders and my mom had a cobb salad, which she changed from blue cheese to feta at our server's recommendation (she loved it). They have Harp on draft which is also a plus.

Not very lively for a pub

By MJ2E |

Although D4 is in an excellent location and has a lovely interior, I was surprised by the lack of people in the pub. The food was so-so. I had a very odd Reuben (too much corned beef, no discernible swiss cheese and NO sauerkraut) - was very disappointed and to their credit they offered me something else when I expressed my dislike of the sandwich. I would be willing to try again as my friends seemed satisfied with their pub-grub (although high-end).

Excellent food and nice environment

By Leonora568 |

My friends and I went here for breakfast. The food is absolutely delicious!!! Nice creative dishes. Very nice environment. The pub has a nice bar and a nice patio to have breakfast .The waiter was very nice! Highly recommended.

decent food, meh service, low value

By go401 |

food was 3/5, service 2/5, cost 1/5 for what you get. 1 app (peppers), 4 beers and 2 entres were $95, prob the most I've ever paid for a Guinness as well. I wouldn't go back. Server had little interest in being there.

Good choice

By Big_Jeff_Leo |

We called in without a reservation but where quicly seated. The menu was excellent as was the choice of drinks. I had a really tasty salad and my better half had this enormous fish and chips. Service was excellent and the wait not long. We appreciated the decor which added to a positive atmospheric vibe and I also noted that the toilets where immaculate.

Not an Irish bar.

By Liz Wheeler |

So I went here for lunch today. First off let me say this is not an Irish bar in the traditional sense. The only thing Irish is the Guiness. It is however a lovely spot for lunch or dinner. I went for lunch and had the lunch special of two items of $11. It was fantastic and the barman (I was sat at the bar) was fantastic. If you want good fresh food at a decent price I suggest you go here. My only regret is that I am not in town long enough to go back.

Best Trip Visit

By Shaun O |

Myself and my fellow flight attendant pals were on a 24 hour layover from Ireland and based on previous recommendations from many of my colleagues we visited D4 for some snacks and refreshments. All I really have to say it I was not dissapointed. The staff were beyond amazing and friendly and super. They gave great recommendations on the menu and couldn't do enough for us. This is not your typical Irish bar in the USA it has a really classy upmarket feel to it with large glass windows and a gorgeous patio area outside. 10/10 would recommend.

Great breakfast and they serve Irish sausages!!!

By Fiona D |

I spotted this D4 Cafe and pub on TripAdvisor. Being from Dublin and living in that area I thought it funny so decided we should head over. Warmly greeted and seated immediately with an outside table. Food amazing. Something for everyone and no joking they serve Irish soda bread and Irish sausages. I had the smoked salmon on brown bread. Teenagers had fruit, pancakes and French toast. Very very good. The SO had the Irish breakfast which he really enjoyed and also baked beans included. We were fortunate to meet Brendan the owner who is from D4 so there is a connection. Charming man and good for recommendations. Worth a visit..

Front of house service needs work!!

By SisPerth |

Our brunch visit didn't get off to a very good start with the front-of-house service: we asked if we could have the nice corner table on the patio that had become vacant just as we arrived and were told no, those tables are reserved for parties of three or more - we were only two. We were offered a table further down the side of the building (on a walkway actually) and, at close to midday, in direct sun. We opted to move even further down the walkway so we could take a table that had some shade from the building...and were promptly forgotten about for close to 15 minutes!! Our waiter Juan finally came rushing up, apologizing as he approached - because we were tucked into a corner, he'd missed seeing us. We felt it was less his fault than the person who seated us - the least she could have done was let him know where she had banished us to! I think if we hadn't been hungry, and this hadn't already been our second choice (the first was too crowded), we probably would have left without ordering. Anyway, Juan was wonderful after that, trying his best to make it up to us (and earn his tip, no doubt!). The food was tasty, though nothing out of the ordinary - the Dublin omelet was a large portion and the Sunrise Breakfast of eggs, bacon and potatoes was just the usual fare. A side order of fresh fruit was decidedly ordinary - and not overly fresh. We had a glass of Prosecco each to accompany. Prices were average. If it was Juan's service alone, I'd give him five stars, but the shaky start brings down the overall service rating. When your food and your setting aren't something special, you really need to work on that service! (I've just read other reviews here and it seems front-of-house is a regular problem.)

Family Christmas Dinner

D4 Irish Pub & Cafe was a great pick for dinner with family on the Saturday before Christmas. Service and food were excellent atmosphere was also wonderful.

My New Fav In Chicago!

By Marie C |

From start to finish everything was perfect! the service was amazing thanks to Juan! He made dinner the cherry on top! :) good service is hard to find! The burger was delicious, beer battered chicken fingers so light and airy and the drinks amazing. Cant wait to come back! Thanks Juan for great service!

Typical Irish Bar

By Alison B |

The tiled floors and wooden decor made for a pleasant environment. We ordered a Ruben and Fish and Chips. Both were very good. There was plenty of wait staff on duty, but our server was inattentive. We had to ask him for more water, drinks, fork, etc. The manager stopped by our table, but asked how we liked the shots and seemed surprised when we told him we weren’t drinking shots (we each had 2 beers). This is a place that was good for lunch, but is easy to beat for dinner with all the restaurants in the area.

Quick snack

We visited here on 31st Aug 2018 in the evening. This charming little place is tucked away between Navy Pier and the Magnificent mile. I would recommend that you find it and try it if you are in the area. The meals were reasonably priced and this was matched with good food well presented, hot and tasty. We sat outside on a balmy evening, they found us a table without trouble or delay. We had the Zucchini soup and a side of Coconut curry fries, both equally delicious.

Pleasant Food and Music

I googled this restaurant so did not know what to expect so we were pleasantly surprised. The food was great and the music was amazing we ate and sang along. I recommend highly

Work dinner

By Tracy |

Met some colleagues here for a dinner after flying in that day. It was Fat Tuesday so there was a Mardi Gras celebration going on - but in all honesty, it was a pretty quiet evening in there so the promotion didn't seem to work very well. I was not very hungry that night so I only had a side of brussels sprouts. They were a little too under done for me so I didn't eat very many of them. Everyone else at the table seemed to enjoy their food and I didn't hear any complaints. Service was good for our table of 8. It was nice enough but nothing I would rush back to next time I'm here.

Best Bloody Mary ANYWHERE

By lgermscheid2018 |

This is a great pub/restaurant right down the street from Loews Hotel. We each ordered a Bloody Mary and were extremely impressed with the garnish. Not only did it have the regular condiments, but it also included cheese, beef stick segment...and BACON! If you there for lunch, go hungry. The portions are enormous! I ordered and HALF corned beef sandwich and cup of soup. The sandwich was piled so high with the meat, I had to eat it open face with knife and fork. It nearly took up the entire plate. The greeters and servers are top notch and welcoming. Our server checked back just the right number of times to see how were doing. D4 is one of our absolute Go-To restaurants every time we go to Chicago.

What a great surprise - definitely go!

By tanya4 |

We were waking by and thought - this looks like a nice, cozy place for a drink. Walked in, and had a great meal, good craft cocktails and some beer! Fabulous fish and Chips, fish tacos and a California BLT. Order the Irish coffee - yummy homemade whipped cream! Decor and ambiance are higher end “pub”....definitely worth a visit for some good food!!

Fish and Chips - Great

By KayteeHC |

Nice place to stop in for a bite and football. the Fish and Chips was large and easily shared by two people. Fish was flakey and cooked perfectly. The Berry Salad with spinach, blueberies, strawberries and almonds was great.

Fantastic gem!

By Carolanonmymind |

Our local friends took our family there and the chicken fingers were fantastic! Portion sizes are top notch and worthy of the price points.

We ate at this establishment twice while in Chicago.

By wofwnr |

The fish and chips were excellent. The cod was white and delicious while the fries were seasoned perfectly. I recommend the dish.

Delicious burgers!

By Deven S |

Their D4 Burger was great! Wash it down with some Guinness, and its a perfect way to sit and enjoy a fun, energetic vibe.

Great place for great Irish faire!

By Dennis K |

Deb runs an amazing establishment. Great selection of beer and alcohol which makes a pub almost a pub. She finishes it off with great food and camaraderie/vibe. The food is authentic and very good. Corn Beef is very good. Commitment to her staff is evident as they are great! Trinity was fantastic while hustling in an Irish way. Great place for anyone wanting authentic Irish faire.

Stopped for drinks

By gritz71 |

Stopped for drinks. Host and bartenders professional and took very good attention to us. The bourbon old fashioned was fantastic. While we didn’t eat the drink we’re great and the Harp beer on tap was cold.

Chicago trip

By Roger C |

Very good food and the service was superb. I had at cornbeef and it was tender and moist. Salads were very good as well. The mushroom soup fantastic. I tried a walnut Old Fashion and it was great. It added a level of complexity that far above a regular recipe.

Aer Lingus Crew

By Kathryn M |

D4 is a staple for all of our crew. We recommend it to all of our passengers. The owner is so lovely and always comes to welcome us and have a chat. The food is absolutely gorgeous and the portions are amazing. It’s so reasonably priced as well! Would highly recommend the nachos

Nice

Nice spot by Embassy Suites Magnificent Mile. My three sons and I all got different entrees for lunch and everyone was very happy. The smaller fish and chips was plenty. Very good service.

Amazing brunch, why wait for Yolk?

By Flavia_travel |

We went to Yolk and the wait was long, kids were hungry so we decided to go to D4. Food is amazing and service could not be better. Daniella was patient and efficient. French toast is one of the best we had, Irish burrito is awesome and on another visit we had the Irish breakfast all so good!

Breakfast blunder

By IowaBell |

Sunday brunch menu was only ok... We ordered a lobster benedict and a farmers skillet. The eggs, ordered medium, had undercooked whites. Our nice server offered to get new eggs. They came out the same... Eventually the dish was cold and egg-less. The manager came over and apologized and took it off our bill. We shared the farmer skillet. Basic, but served with thick-cut potato chips underneath.

The Flavor of Chicago

By DiAnna_7545 |

I went with friends for dinner on a game night for the Cubs. Very Loud. Fireplace heats the whole place so it was quite warm. The food was delicious. I asked for extra lobster in the Lobster Mac & Cheese. Instead I got (and paid for) a double portion of the entree. Tasty but just not enough lobster. The owner came by and greeted my friend by name. She's a local and a "regular" there. Dim lighting. Relaxed but very nice atmosphere.

Great food

By Beth H |

Portions were almost too big, but there was something for everyone. Great food, great service, and everyone in my family left happy.

Fantastic interior / building with great food

The small room in the back with fireplace and ceiling high bookshelves is fantastic. Love the glass ceiling panels with views of the surrounding skyline. Sandwiches were excellent. Very good French Onion soup.

Pet friendly!!!

By Zugeinly G |

We were walking our dogs, about two blocks from home (I just moved from Florida, so I don’t know the city very well) when we saw this place with a very nice patio, so my boyfriend went inside to ask if we could get service outside since we had our dogs with us, they said “no problem” ... we enjoyed our food, great service, they even offered us water for the dogs, we loved it so much on Saturday afternoon, that went back on Sunday as well, different server, same great service. We tried something different from their menu and loved it as well, definitely that will be a favorite local spot. Highly recommend it!!!

Best chicken fingers I have ever had!

By Robges |

We stopped in the first night of a business trip. The place has a very warm Irish pub feel to it. The bartender was welcoming and knowledgeable on the whiskeys as I was able to take advantage of their whiskey flight special. He recommended the fingers as being excellent and they did not disappoint. We actually stopped in 2x on this trip. This place is great for a nice meal or an evening drink.

Pretty place but very little Irish

By Nancy L |

Pretty place but very little Irish. They have Guinness on tap but do not poor it properly. We told the bar tender how to do it.and he did it. No Irish music played. Really wanted an Irish coffee but they use canned whipped creme. A real Irish coffee has fresh creme whipped on property. They told us too much waste that way. Very few Irish food options on menu. We were dealing an Irish Pub experience. This one did not deliver

Good food, good pub

By Elain H |

Good old fashioned pub grub….buttermilk chicken burger was huge and very good, D4 cob salad was very good and the crispy chicken really made the meal. Good wines and beers…. Very attentive and on the ball staff. Worth a visit

Very good spot.

By P Ryan |

This is a lovely bar in Chicago. It’s spotless and classy. Had a lovely family lunch here on Saturday . service and food was top notch.

Nice place for lunch

By AsburyJuke63 |

In town for business and dropped in for lunch. No wait which was nice. Had a delicious corned beef sandwich. Loads of meat. Fries were crispy. Only downer was my drink. It was not prepared correctly. They should have used orange vodka. Not sure if they didn't have it or didn't know how to make it, either way they should have told me. Still, will definitely go back.

Excellent Irish Brunch

By michael R |

Excellent Irish Pub Brunch, went there entirely by accident as the yellow eggsperience breakfast chain across the courtyard was packed on this Sunday morning, St. Patrick’s Day weekend. On our walk back to get breakfast at our hotel, the historic Intercontinental, we passed this Irish pub that had just opened for brunch, with a St. Patrick’s Day menu. Service was excellent, as well as the quality and taste of the food. Got the recommended corned beef hash eggs Benedict Which was very tasty, with homemade corned beef hash and delicious Chip style breakfast potatoes. Good coffee with. bottom less refills. Prices were reasonable. Would return on next trip.

Amazing food and service

By Khk2011 |

We loved this place. I was a little worried when we walked in and didn’t see any other children, but they were happy to take care of us. They sat us in the “library” section and my kids 10, 7 and 4 loved it. The food was wonderful, delicious fish and chips and shepard’s pie. Service was really great. Lovely atmosphere.

Delicious breakfast!

By Gregory B |

St. Patrick's day breakfast was delicious. I had Reuben Empanadas and the were very original and right on point! Service was also excellent.

Great service/delicious food

By HeathMO |

This is a delightful pub/cafe with delicious food and great service. We had a friendly welcome at the door and our waiter was excellent. We had fish & chips and the Grownup's Grilled Cheese and both were wonderful, just what we wanted. The pub atmosphere and decor are very pleasing and not over the top rowdy like some sports bars. Everyone there seemed to be enjoying their food & conversation. Highly recommended!

Local Favorite

By Chris B |

I live in Chicago and I eat at D4 at least once per week (full disclosure - I live in the building). The food is really great here! Their breakfast/brunch menu is awesome and you can usually get in here on a Saturday or Sunday with no wait (because who thinks of any Irish Pub when they think breakfast?). You will not be disappointed. They have really good happy hour specials also - but fair warning happy hour here starts at 4 and ends at 6:00 during the week. So get here early! Great beer and cocktail selections. Good for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or later. Some of my favorites: D4 Burger (one of my fav burgers in town) French Toast Steak and Eggs Lobster Mac and Cheese Beer Battered Chicken Tenders The wait staff here is friendly, attentive, and they have always taken care of me if something isn’t exactly right! If you are visiting the city and are in the Streeterville area or checking out Navy Pier, stop by this place on your way back to your hotel and skip the tourist trap chains at the Pier or roll down for breakfast when all the brunch places in your neighborhood have a 30+ minute wait. Also, it’s great to grab a beer on their patio on a sunny warm day!

Shocking rudeness from staff

By romanwanderer2015 |

Have visited a few times over the past 2 years since my daughter moved to live in Streeterville. It’s their local pub and serves my favourite drink from home, Smithwick’s, silent w for those of you in the know. Every time I’ve been there I’ve found the staff rude. This last time I called on a busy Saturday afternoon. I sat inside while my wife sat outside to make a phone call, we are both of an age. The bar tender rudely told me he would not serve me the drink I’d ordered for my wife until he could see her ( it’s a thing apparently, I didn’t know). He didn’t bring either drink until she had arrived at the table. By this time while looking for me she went onto the bar snug (it’s hilariously called the library). She realized that other members of our family were seated there. When she saw where I was seated she came to our table to let me know this. We sat for a few minutes while we were served then decided to move to join the others who coincidentally having had 2 drinks each had decided to move on. The bartender who served us rudely informed me I would have to settle my tab before moving, no idea why but I did this anyway. As we arrived at the other table further onto the bar a different server was angrily remonstrating h with my daughter about this being a service table. My daughter asked him to explain himself but he turned and walked away. I didn’t get involved in this as I hadn’t seen the start of the interaction. However the penny dropped soon enough. It’s obviously all about the tips there. Clearly each server generated their own tips which are not shared. So you know what guys , you have had the last of my fines. Life is short and tough enough and there are plenty of other places more deserving of my custom so I’ve darkened your doorstep for the last time. It’s disappointing that a so called Irish pub does not adhere to the hundred thousand welcomes vibe but I de had enough of this

Late nite dinning

By Tony S |

We were tourists all day and needed a place to eat at 10:30 pm. A lot of the more traditional places close at 11. Not D4! They were happy to serve us and the food was great. Everybody in our party found what they wanted. More eclectic than Irish, but good either way

Great Sunday Lunch spot!

By SUSICH |

Luck would have it we stumbled upon this Irish Pub on a Sunday during our stay. We were strolling around the block, waiting for a table a nearby restaurant and noticed D4. There was no wait for a table on Sunday around 11. We were very pleased with this pub. The service was excellent and very quick. Prices are very reasonable considering the quality of food and drinks. There is plenty of seating and numerous staff. Food is very high quality with an excellent variety to choose from. Will definitely visit this pub again on our next trip to Chicago.

I thought it would be Irishish

By Travis B |

Fish and chips were very good and a good selection of whiskey. Oh the Salmon salad was a good choice. Bartender was great and knowledgeable, however there was very little Irish to it. Pop music and low lighting. Maybe they only play Molly Malone on the weekends.

great food / rude host

By Dawn Bryant H |

We had a large family brunch here while in town. Excellent bar and bartender - highly recommend the cold irish coffee! Food was great with very large portions. Our only complaint is that the host was rude and very "pinched". He complained when we walked in with a hotel coffee and then was rude about arranging tables for our party of 10. The food and bar were great but we wouldn't go back due to the host being such a pill. He needs some serious customer service training or would be better suited in another type of restaurant. Irish pubs are usually relaxed and welcoming - him, not so much. My service rating is not due to our waitress or bartender but rather the host staff.

D4 is D-Spot for lunch on a nice, sunny day

By 308brucew |

Ample outdoor seating makes this the perfect spot to eat and watch life go by. The food was good, and the service was great.

Gorgeous venue with tasty drinks!

By Quinn Avery |

Loved the personality of this bar. They have a wide selection of cocktails and a friendly bartenders.

Nice Place, more of a Cafe than a Pub. Good for any occassion.

By Mike D |

Went here on a Monday night with my wife and two friends. We really liked it. It has a nice bar area and is very comfortable. Nice enough for a nice night out, looks like a great spot for drinks after work. Our server was young and somewhat inexperienced, but did a decent job. Really good brisket nacho's. We just had appetizers an sides. All good.

Great atmosphere, great food, good prices!

By Zenmtnman |

After striking out with a 2 hour wait for a local famous pizza establishment, a large group of my extended family was getting desperate for dinner. After remembering someone at our hotel recommending this pub, we gave them a call, and they immediately set aside a table for the 14 of us, and told us it'd be ready as soon as we got there, which impressed us a lot, especially for a Friday night. Upon arrival we were seated promptly and were surprised by the extensive menu, great beer selection, and reasonable prices. Food came out quickly, and was delicious. Several of us had the "small" side fish and chips, and it was almost too much food, with two large filets atop a pile of fries. Entrees were mostly in the $12-20 range, with drinks running from $8-15. Overall a great experience. So good, in fact, that my wife and I returned for brunch the next day. The lobster benedict was amazing, and the red velvet pancakes made for a great brunch "dessert" we all shared. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough, though it's a bit unassuming on the ground floor of an office building. It has plenty of space, though I'm sure it's a packed happy-hour destination.

Service service service

By Joseph C |

From the moment we walked in we knew it was going to be hard to find a seat for 6 with no reservations. Low and behold they pushed two tables together quickly and we had us a server within minutes followed up with a guest rep. who came by to make sure we were okay. our food order came so fast that the drinks were barely being served. Greated by yet another follow up from a kitchen staff asking if everything was fine. And then what appeared to be a manager asking if we thought everything was fine. Lobster roll was tasty. Crab cake sliders were also a pleasant surprise. The brussel sprouts side was tantalizing. The service was unbelievable water's kept getting refilled without us even knowing it. Great job to Stefani our server!

Good home cooked food

By James B |

Visited late on a Sunday night, staff were very friendly and sat us quickly. There is a good selection of beers and whiskey available. Food menu had lots of choice, I had shepherds pie, & my wife had the Salmon both tasted great. Would definitely go back.

Great Food and Quick Wait

By Laura G |

We stopped in for brunch and this place did not disappoint. The service at the bar was great and we were seated in under the time they gave us. Everyone loved their food and I highly recommend the truffle mayo for the fries, it was amazing.

Best Cider I have Ever Had!

By Kayla B |

I went to this restaurant after an afternoon of walking around the Navy Pier and was ready for a drink. The restaurant is gorgeous inside, classy and fun. I had the best cider I have ever had - a Black Currant cider. Highly recommend!

UK dinner

By Cristian N |

Typical Irish Pub with Anglo-Saxon cuisine. The chicken pot pie is excellent accompanied by a Guinness on tap. The salads with "Italian" dressings are also good. Reasonable prices and friendly staff

DINNER NEAR RIVERSIDE NORTH

By Steven C |

My wife and I dined here during our recent stay in a hotel on Chicago's Riverside North. We did not have reservations however, the host staff were friendly and we were seated immediately. Our server was attentive at first and then largely ignored us during the rest of our meal requiring us to flag her down when we could find her. The food was very good however, the server missed details of the order so the food did not arrive as ordered. (We never could find our server to correct the errors.) My wife had the fish and chips and she said the chips were soggy and soaked in grease. The french onion soup was also very salty. Like most of downtown Chicago, the prices were rather high but not more than many others in the area. The place was busy with locals and visitors so it appears to be a popular place and I would recommend it if you don't expect exceptional service.

An Irish Pub with GREAT food!

By 1veroite |

We happened upon D4 while walking back to our hotel from Navy pier. Where to start. First, D4 is the postal code for the area of Dublin where the owner is from. I've been in a log of Irish pubs and restaurants but none like this. Yes they have all the Irish beers but the food sets this restaurant apart. You have to check out the menu. We ate lunch here two out of five days in Chicago. Absolutely outstanding culinary delights. The service was outstanding as well. For moderately priced food and drinks, this is definitely the place to be.

D-4 Irish Pub Chicago

By Alan H |

Impressive irish Pub in the heart of Chicago. Went there with my wife and 2 kids to meet a relative . We wanted something spacious as we had 2 young kids with us and this was perfect. Food was good and so was the service. Open fires a nice touch for those brisk Chicago days.

Great place to enjoy a super meal and fantastic service.

By Scott H |

This place is super. We had a burger, chicken pot pie & a salad and the food was fabulous. The best part was the server was better than the food. This gentleman was friendly and super. Love this place.

A great place to warm up after a cool river cruise

By wloo11 |

We stumbled across the D4 Irish pub on our way back to the Magnificent Mile from the Navy Pier. We had just come off a river cruise on a cold, rainy day. The restaurant looked warm and inviting so we stopped in. We all had breakfast for lunch. The eggs benedict with smoked salmon was delicious and reasonably priced. The server was very friendly.

Awesome Irish fare…

By jlm777 |

Had an awesome dinner - Reuben sandwich and French onion soup. It was so good I went back the next day for lunch - shepherds pie did not disappoint. Highly recommend stopping here.

More than just an Irish bar

By Visit DrunkPhotography.com |

I thought this place was the average Irish bar but no, this place has all kinds of odd things to eat. The team and I went crazy, ordering all kinds of things we had not even ever heard of like curry chips and fried cheese curds. So it's not only typical Irish bar food here, you can find what I had, the Beef Shortribs, which is done in some sort of Asian style style with soy sauce smoked outside. It was really good, with the crispy brussel sprouts. The service was amazing, they got us in even on a busy night, when a dentist convention was happening and all other spots wouldn't allow us in.

A go to neighborhood Irish Pub

By John D |

Great location with outdoor seating. Good Irish Pub Menu with Shepherd's Pie, big burgers, small plates, large plates, salads and sandwiches. Comfortable seating and cold beer. A fun place to go with friends.

Great food and service

By Cristian M |

Great food, excellent service, ambiance, music, the experience was awesome, we came back for drinks later that evening, will come back for sure

Good Happy Hour with Friendly Service

By John and Les C |

After our first full day walking around Chicago CBD we called in to D4 for a drink and it was happy hour! Good selection of beers and wines at happy hour prices. Place was nicely busy and we sat at the bar and were looked after by Paul. Only drinks today but the food looked good so we may well come back.

Can’t get a drink!

By Lori K |

Horrible service. Two bartenders find a bar in one or two customers and I was totally ignored. I won’t be going back there

Lunch and Linger

By Alyssa H |

I wasn't wanting to go to a pub for lunch when my husband suggested we meat here for while on a business trip, but I was pleasantly surprised with D4. The atmosphere of pubs can be dark and the food sometimes no so healthy. They of course had items like fish and chips but also several salads. I loved the pub feeling with feeling too enclosed. The ceilings were high and plenty of natural light. We sat near a fireplace which I loved on a cool day. I not normally a pub person, but if more pubs were like D4 I think I could become a fan.

Relaxing atmosphere & Flavorful food

By Ryan |

We stopped by this pub after finding it on the walk the previous day. It was a beautiful Tuesday evening, so we of course chose the outdoor seating option. (There is a indoor seating option as well, but it is more pub-style. I would recommend the outdoor seating for families with younger kids). The patio was very nice: the furniture was clean and comfortable (though note they are not cushioned) and the lighting (they had string lights wrapped around trees surrounding the patio) gave the area a peaceful and relaxing feel. When it came to the food, we decided on this: my daughter and I would share an order of fish and chips with a side of French onion soup, my wife would get the Thai kale salad, and my son would get a side of mac and cheese. Our food came with a basket of bread and butter, and we dug right in. The fish and chips and the salad were delicious, and the mac and cheese was just enough for my son, even for a side! The soup was topped with cheesy, roasted bread, which made it even better. Everything we ordered was rich and full of flavor. If you’re looking for a relaxing dinner or just some filling food, come here.

good tacos

Romantic ambience and quality service

By World Trotter Here and Beyond |

If you’re looking for a good Irish restaurant in Chicago this must be the best place to go, even in this pandemic. Food is great! Service and staffs are friendly. Price is above average. They have a good bar with social distancing. Guests can enjoy private conversations while enjoying good food and drinks. You must try this restaurant during your next visit to Chicago.

Pleasant brunch

By Bryan M |

Our family of 4 enjoyed our Sunday brunch at D4. I had the Irish breakfast, wife and son shared a pulled pork sandwich and the youngest had chicken fingers from the kids menu. My wife and I had specialty mimosas, very good. Very good staff, nice atmosphere. Would recommend.

Steady wins

By Joshua S |

A rare place where there is a very good large burger for a fair price. Also try the corned beef. Very mediocre waitstaff but you are there for beer and burgers.

Fish & Chips

By DeeDeeJack |

Our waiter Ivan was great. Decent food and nice selection of holiday drinks to accompany the Irish grub. Fish and chips were good.

Good Irish Food & Beer

By Chuck H |

Had a very good Irish meal of Shepherd's pie in cast iron skillet and Poutine. Wash is all down with a Smithwick Irish Ale and it was a good dinner

A nice meal with good service

By MrsAnn72 |

We had a meal here one evening with our two children, aged 7 and 8. We were all greeted nicely, the children given colouring and crayons which is appreciated. The choice of food was extensive, a good selection on offer and several options for the children too. The steak was cooked as requested and was very tasty, as was the salmon. The boys enjoyed their meals too, one had fish and the other chicken tenders. The server was very helpful and answered our questions well, although the wait to order dessert was a little longer than we would have liked. One negative was that the floor area could do with a thorough clean, if you can get past that (as we did), I would definitely recommend this place for a meal.

Amazing Food & Beer

By TOM |

On vacation from Ireland and we’re staggered by the portion sizes which are more than ample to share The food is amazing and the staff are really friendly and helpful Pint of Guinness was nice too .. surprised as hard to get outside of Ireland 😊 It gets busy post work up to about 8pm most nights If your on a short stop in Chicago as we were it’s well worth a visit

Great Stop!

By SGcvn69 |

We stopped by to have a drink and use the restrooms. Ended up ordering the curry chip for a snack and it was a wonderful surprise! FYI it’s like poutine, but with curry instead! It was sweet and spicy. We devoured it! Our waiter was fantastic with his recommendations. High tops were a bit high for us short folks, but we managed!

Great Irish Pub

By Jon B |

Great Irish pub. I had the small fish and chips and it was more than enough food. Our group got the poutine and queso / guac appetizers and both were fantastic. We had a couple of people get the chicken pot pie and they would highly recommend!

Been many times for brunch and have ordered online.. great service and solid portions. Definitely try the bloody mary!

No Redeeming Qualities

By Ronald J B |

I have been to this venue six times now, and have yet to discover its popularity, other than its prime location. Granted it has Revolution Anti-Hero on tap, my “go-to” brew, but it fails on all other measures. The service is poor (visits by server perhaps every 25 minutes), a push to get a food order as you are seated, a significant wait when you need another hydration, and noisy. The six different entries on the menu ordered have all been poorly prepared and barely warm on delivery. Ordered the $20 Deluxe Reuben on 6/22, and the corned beef was OK but super dry, the sauerkraut was chopped cabbage (not sauerkraut at all), there was no thousand island dressing, and the rye bread was not toasted, and was quite dry. I will return as I have a good friend that lives on McClurg, and he loves the “ambiance.” But I will insist on dining elsewhere. This restaurant has super possibilities, but management needs to reevaluate its entire approach. . . and I hope they do, as the location, space, and venue design are great.

Best Brunch in Chitown

By andyboz1970 |

We stumbled on D4 by accident because the Yolk was a Joke! OMG what a find!! The menu was off the hook and the food was amazing. I highly recommend the Avocado Toast as a starter and then back it up with an order of the French toast! Oh don’t forget to order a Paloma!!! Had to double up in those....Amazing We had 6 teens with us and they were floored by the food!! I will visit again

Nice little pub

By StephanyIowa |

This pleasant pub has shaded tables around its entrance, and a happy hour menu of small plates, and half priced drinks. The menu is standard pub fare, from poutine to shepherds pie, with some good beers. The service is good, attentive, and quick. We both had the half portion of fish and chips. We were both full when we finished, and left food on the plates. Me, I don’t eat the breading, but use it to keep the fish warm. He ate all his crispy breading, and most of his limp fries. It was a nice place to eat, to meet a friend or two, people watch, and from which to wander back to our hotel.

6 out of 5 stars

By Richard L |

This restaurant completely exceeded my expectations. From the appearance, to the service, to the exceptional food, it was all top notch. Everything we ordered was great, but nothing was as tasty as the mac and cheese! We live in the west suburbs and will definitely be back when we visit the city.

Amazing experience!

Amazing experience! We were there at New Year’s Eve to have some food before the party and the place was amazing! Food was delicious!

An ok Irish Pub

By Tracy M |

We ordered pulled pork nachos - minimal amount of pork & it was way overcooked. Portions size was big which was mainly corn chips & cheese Also ordered Burrata & baked beets. The burrata was tasty as was the sour dough - but there were minimal beets Guiness reasonably priced, wine list had Australian wine but after ordering it is actually from California We won't be back

Awesome

By far, my favorite place to grab breakfast in Chicago and my most favorite place for a Bloody Mary anywhere!!! Sat at the bar and the bartender was fun and cool to chat w/and the food was incredible. Highly recommended!!

A Very Nice Surprise

By Tuba4You |

Directly across the street from the Embassy Suites Hotel this place was perfect for a quick dinner without having to brave the winter cold. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food, and I especially liked the lamb chops I ordered. Not overly priced, and simply a delicious meal within the shadow of our hotel.

Nice atmosphere

By Neil |

Service was quick and friendly. Nice atmosphere. Mac and cheese was tasty. A little underwhelmed by fish and chips…

Neat Irish type pub with friendly folk!

By Toothsc |

My wife and I were staying nearby at the Embassy Suites and were looking for a place to eat. This was within easy walking distance and very good. My wife had the adult grilled cheese and soup, but the best part, for her, was the creme brulee coffee. We were seated in an area just off the bar that was like a library with a fire going in the fireplace -- a welcome warming since the temps were freezing. I had the pastrami sandwich and it was huge -- my only issue was that the meat was quite dry. We definitely enjoyed and would certainly visit again when next in the area

Highly recommend!

By emsoovee |

My husband and I were looking for a nice casual place that he could get a great craft beer. There are tons of places in Chicago to do that but we picked D4. It was one of the best choices we made this trip! The atmosphere is fun and modern with a touch of old-world Irish pub. The drink menu seems endless and the food was over the top! My husband enjoyed his choice of beer so much we were tempted to sit at the bar for more once we had finished our meal. Next trip to Chicago, we are definitely coming back to D4!

What a great brunch! Delicious, fresh ingredients, classic atmosphere & very friendly staff. After standing in the rain waiting at a breakfast chain around the corner (And still 10 parties ahead of us), we got smart and called D4. We were welcomed and seated by the fireplace, served promptly and everything was delicious. Mimosa, Irish coffee, breakfast, omelette & French toast. Nice touches of whipped butter and thick slice bacon. Our server Johanna was efficient, funny & charming. Keep aiming for the $ millions Johanna! We will definitely be back.

Best Bloody Mary

Great atmosphere with a professional and courteous staff. I was served the best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had! It was a meal in itself. I will be back!

Excellent Food and Atmosphere

We were in Chicago for a family trip and tried D4. It was a cozy pub atmosphere with a fire place and excellent service. I have to eat Gluten Free. The menu is marked and the server was very knowledgeable. I had the maple salmon with garlic mash and crispy brussel sprouts. My son (not GF) enjoyed the poutine and bangers and mash. Overall a very pleasant evening.

Have eaten here inside & outside. Inside it is very dark. Outside was great. The lobster roll was wonderful. Basic breakfast was pricey. Staff was nice

Chicken tenders and sliders

Very friendly restaurant with great food and reasonable prices, especially during happy hour. The sliders are delicious and the chicken tenders are amazing. Definitely stop in for the tenders alone, you won’t be sorry.

Great Breakfast

Just happen to walk upon it because the other breakfast restaurants were booked. Well, it’s a quiet gem. Excellent breakfast menu. Great service and the food was excellent. The portions were large and the fruit was fresh. Highly recommend it.

We came here after a visit

We came here after a visit to the hospital. It was our anniversary and I was sure to mention it. My husband had a burger and I had. Corn beef with sweet potato fries. Also excellent horseradish mustard sauce. 2 glasses of wine. It was very good dinner or waitress was very nice but what I thought was really weird is when you say you’re celebrating some thing and they bring you nothing and makes me want to never go there again. Because it’s all about Service

Great food!

The food here was delicious. Our group of 4 were very happy with everything we had. Our group had the Lobster roll, Reuben, Grown Up Grilled Cheese and a Chicken Pot Pie. All was great! The service was prompt and friendly. Would definitely go back.
