I recently ate here at lunch with some friends. The food was good with fresh ingredients. We ate the lunchtime special and it was great value. We had a fantastic salad to start followed not ravioli. Service was friendly and quick. Would love to visit this charming neighbourhood restaurant again in the evening to enjoy its charms better.

Great place, you'll enjoy it. Located in City Center West, where there are many other things to do.

Near Rittenhouse with family, we popped in and were welcomed and brought upstairs. Great menu with something for everyone. All the food (and desserts) were delicious, and the staff friendly and professional. Highly recommended.

This is not a s. phila. restaurant, this is in center city, a block from rittenhouse square and it is a great neighborhood place. We had dinner here tonight and have had lunch here but this the first dinner...clams casino, salad, lasagna (excellent) and barbara had spaghetti and meatballs...big servings, good service, nice atmosphere...cant say anything bad about the place at all...did not have desert, too full....

I was visiting my grandmother in Philly last weekend and we decided to go out for a nice dinner. We walked in the restaurant, and got seated fairly quickly. The hostess was very warm and friendly, and there was a cheerful buzz in the restaurant. We got sat down at a small table near the back of the room, where there was almost no light and not even a candle on the table to make it better. My grandmother had to use the flashlight on her phone to read the menu. We then got served bread, which was obviously not fresh nor homemade. It was cold and tasted like any store bought bread. I ordered an Alfredo Fettuccine and my grandmother ordered a Veal Scaloppini. The pasta was ok, not great but not horrible. It was slightly rubbery and the sauce didn't really taste like alfredo. It did not taste bad, just not what I would expect from a restaurant like that. However, the service was extremely friendly and quick, so I applaud them for that!

We ate here two years ago and were very pleased with our meal then. This time, the food was less satisfactory. Compared to our previous visit, the bruschetta was a disappointment. It lacked the crispiness of the bread and generous cheese topping that we had before. The home-baked bread lacked taste. The greens in olive oil and garlic was too mild, lacking any garlic taste. Our pasta dishes were just OK, but nothing memorable. The best part of the meal was the olive oil in garlic that accompanied the bread, which was excellent. Service was very good.

Our hotel, Sofitel Philadelphia, recommended this restaurant. We had a party of 14, including children. The waitress was extremely accommodating, trying to deal with our group. Everyone ordered different entrees and were pleased with their Italian choices. I had calamari marinara over fettuccine. It was outstanding. All of us would recommend this restaurant. We'll be back next time we are in Philly.

Average at best. For the area it needs to be better. Food was homemade, place was not bad but does not compare to the other high end joints in the area. Service was OK. Looking for more when staying in city. This place could be an OK spot for locals on weeknight. Felt over dressed.

Everything about this place was Devine started with mussels sausage tomatoes and cheese. Tony's pasta white sauce with ham. This place deserves a higher rating. I will keep going back

Genuinely a family-founded restaurant with a south-Italian ambience , the place serves a delicious assortment of appetisers and main courses . I found their stuffed mushrooms with mozzarella covering exceedingly delicious, along with their steak and side-dish pasta. The staff were friendly and overseeing in their conduct and making sure you are not left wanting. The Tiramisu is passingly good and their espresso adds a potent compliment. I'd come back to this place.

A friend and I went to 20th Street to eat at a seafood restaurant --which turned out to not be open for luinch. D'Angelo's was near by and we decided to try it for the first time. We were the only customer on the inside of the restaurant. We both had squid and I had mussels marinara. The squis was a little over done and the mussels had some un-mixed in salt in the marinara. Overall I was a little disappointed. The service was okay, but I would hesitate to fully recommend this place. .

A gem of a little restaurant just off Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia. Food was terrific but beyond that was the atmosphere and service. Its old world/old fashioned. A neighborhood place where everyone is friendly and welcoming. I've never had a bad meal and I stop in anytime I'm in Philadelphia. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Visiting Philly with a taste for Italian and we found this place. Food was really good. Service was excellent. I had one of the specials: crab meat, asparagus and tomatoes in marinara sauce over linguini. My wife had salmon and mushrooms in a cream sauce over linguini. Both servings were huge and reasonably priced. We'd definitely go here again.

We wandered in for late dinner on a Tuesday night, and experienced both a wonderful dinner and fabulous entertainment as it was open microphone night in the lounge. Our food was fabulous. Loved the Clams Casino. Excellent CaesarSalad. My wife had the Ravioli and I the Veal Marsala was perfect. We shared a Tiramisu for desert and listened to a group of local regulars sing show tunes and 1930's and1940's era classic's. Service was excellent. Can't wait to go back and check out the extensive Pasta and seafood entree's. An authentic experience in every way.

My wife and I met a friend there for dinner. Owners Toni and Salvador could not have been more gracious. We paticularly recommend the seafood medley called "pescatore".

Nice little neighborhood Italian restaurant. Not the best, but certainly not the worst.

The food was really very good! I could recommend for that alone (FIVE circle rating). However...Service started strong, becoming spotty and disappointing as the place filled up. Then our server added a 20% gratuity for a party of five. Shocked by this, I looked at a menu and did not see anything noted anywhere for any size group (it's usually for six or more). When confronted, the server stated it was their practice and the manager got all dramatic and loud and said they'd take it off. If deserved, I probably would not have been upset, but since 20% was not noted and certainly not deserved, it ruined the evening for me.

The prices were decent, wine list good, atmosphere was very offbeat and one of a kind. Not plush, but cozy (average padded chairs and booth seating upstairs, limited seating with view of park like Rittenhouse Square). The bartender was a genuine article, prompt service and engaged. The staff was friendly and attentive. Parking was not impossible, it is the city, paid for garage parking nearby. Pasta sampler was very good, seafood and pasta fresh, bruschetta and salad excellente! Stick around after 11 and a full room off the bar goes from dark and empty to a marble floored disco complete with DJ. The scene quickly became surreal with everything from an Andy Gibb / Victoria Principal lookalikes tearing up the floor, older Italian men flirting with bachlorettes, and good looking 30somethings dancing with each other. They allow jeans, but dressing up a little will go a long way here. Good place for a date. Not a 4 Star restaurant , but miles above the chain restaurants. Neat place.

Owner played music at our table, food was good, bit pricey.was there with friends for a surprise party, we closed down the restaurant

We had dinner here on Saturday night. The food was excellent. There marinara sauce on their pasta was so good you wanted more bread just dip in the sauce. I had an excellent flounder francese very light and sauce had wonderful flavor. My husband had shrimp scampi that had very large shrimp in the dish. This was a great neighborhood find! And loved the owner singing during the meal. Would highly recommend

Ate lunch during restaurant week. Had spa and mballs, fet alf and cannelloni. All were very good and service was excellent.

We had sausage and peppers, Tagliatelle Bolognese and lamb. It was fantastic. The service was great, they really did a great job with our kids. I am still craving the tagliatelle! It was my birthday and they brought me a dessert. It was just a wonderful experience with great food.

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner with friends at this old world Italian restaurant. Dishes we recommend - the calamari and the sausage with broccoli rabe for starters. Our dinners - the gnocchi (homemade and delicious), veal Marsala, mussels marinara over linguini, and sautéed flounder.

The veal "Francaise" was very good as was the musels we hd as an appetizer. A bit loud, the tables are close together, but the waiters were qucick and efficient

Good Italian restaurant with interesting menu and wine list.. Nice bar area on the ground floor with a great barman and first floor eating area.

Great meal here tonight! Best bruchetta outside Italy. Calamari excellent. Definitely recommend and will return on another visit to Philadelphia

We went to Philadelphia to see a concert and made a reservation at this restaurant. We didn't realize that there would be huge parking problems, and we realized we'd be late. My son called and explained and the hostess said it was no problem. We arrived about 15 minutes late and had to wait another 10 minutes. Finally, I told the hostess we had to get to a show and would never make it unless we were seated immediately. She went upstairs and came down saying that there would be someone waiting for us to take us to our seats. When our party of six got upstairs, I looked around bewildered. I wasn't sure who was supposed to take us to our seats. Finally, a gray haired gentlemen told me the seats were over there and what did I expect for being twenty minutes late. I said that we were late, but we were kept waiting another ten minutes at the hostess's desk. The table was just being set up and my husband made a comment to the man. The man said, "If you don't like it, why don't you just leave!" We would have left, but we had no place else to go. We had driven all the way from New York and were unfamiliar with the area. My husband told him to just leave us alone. He walked away, and my son said, "Mom, he's the owner." We couldn't believe how the owner of this restaurant treated customers. He basically ruined our experience!

If you like spaghetti and meatballs and pasta dishes with rich tomato sauces, this is the place for you. We started our meal with their take on bruschetta. Their version was warm, with a generous topping of cooked tomatoes and melted mozzarella cheese on toast. While I am used to cold versions of this starter, theirs was delicious, almost a meal in itself. We had the spaghetti and meatballs and the spiral pasta topped with marinara, eggplant, and cheese. Both were excellent. Pasta was perfectly cooked and the tomato sauce rich and satisfying. The only minor drawback was the bread, which was lacking in taste. We were lucky to be there on a Tuesday evening, the night when they have a small band of regulars playing, starting at 7:30. I was told that they also sometimes have people from the audience joining in singing with the band. It was delightful. The person who appeared to be the owner was very friendly and the service was excellent. Many of those there that night appeared to be locals. It was a great dinner and the music was an added romantic bonus. I am surprised D'Angelo's is not ranked higher on Tripadvisor.

I have stopped in at D'Angelo's consistently over the past 20 years, when in Philadelphia for business. It is a reliable, well served evening of Italian food. On my most recent visit, I introduced my wife and children to D'Angelo's, which is charmingly located in the bustling Rittenhouse Square neighborhood. We sat outside to enjoy the pleasant summer evening. With a bottle of wine, we were very relaxed and enjoyed the food. The boys loved their food too and the al fresco experience. Service is very professional and very good.

Simply a great meal from a great server. Eat later on in the evening on a Friday and Saturday and then head downstairs to enjoy the lounge.

We came because we received a gift certificate from a friend - what a good gift. The restaurant is relatively small and situated on a corner. There are a few outside seats but three levels inside. We were greeted by the owner behind the first level bar when we walked in. Decor is comfortable but classy. I have only two things that could have been better - parking (hey, it's in the heart of Philly and parking is terrible) and the salad. I ordered a blue cheese salad and it was delicious except for the iceberg lettuce. It would have been tastier on mixed greens. My husband ordered baked shrimp, which was unique (think chicken parm but with shrimp) and very good. I had ravioli which was excellent. It was handmade and the marinara sauce was amazing - fresh, sweet tomatoes burst through with just enough herbs. Portions were reasonable but your best bargain is the a la carte pasta. Good wine selection.

We were in town for business and fortunate that our rep took us here to eat. We had several courses through out the evening and each course was as amazing as the last! Truly An enjoyable experience in dinning out!

The restaurant has a old world appearance inside. The wine list is nice and well priced. The menu is also diverse of all the standard Italian dishes and some of their specialties. The calamari was tuff and lacking in taste. The arrabiata sauce was OK, but nothing special.. Not with cherry peppers as expected. The marinara sauce was good, light and full of flavor. Pasta was not al dente as requested. Chicken parmigiana was very good, soft and flavorful. The veal chop (NOT... it was a veal porterhouse) with fried onions was flavorful only because the sauce and onions and mushrooms gave it a flavor. The tiramisu was OK, the outside edge of it was dry and tasteless. Our original waiter mumbled all the specials and we asked for someone else to take care of us at the table. I was suggested to go here.. I’m not sure I would recommend it.

good

Come here often for lunch when it is one of the very few QUIET restaurants in the Rittenhouse neighborhood. We love their pastas and excellent sauces. Food is always fresh and the waiters delightful. The physical plant could use a modernization but some would call it "Shabby Chic."

My husband and I were in Philly for the weekend. We stayed at a hotel nearby and walked to this restaurant. We had no reservations and sat in the lounge (downstairs) for about 15 minutes until we got a table. The food and service was exceptional!!! I ordered Tony's Fettuccine and it was divine!!! We will definitely be visiting this restaurant again!!

Went with 5 associates, this was my third visit. Service was most hospitable, nice atmosphere. All five of us had different dishes, from veal to fish to pasta and all proclaimed their meal excellent. Somewhat formal atmosphere, they clearly take serious pride in the food. We were all as delighted with our experience this time as we were the previous visits.

This place had been around for years. It is super solid Italian food in a city of Italians. I think it had a dance floor on the third floor. I have never been. The main seating area is on the second floor with a bar on the first. This is the kind of place that when you walk up the steps there are a million photographs of famous people, most of whom you won't know of you are under 30. The food is great though

Great Italian dinner here, the night before the Philadelphia Marathon. We had some great appetizers, but the Spaghetti & meatballs, and the Lasagna, were the best i have ever had. Just delicious. Easy 5 star.

Took our company party to a new level this year with good old fashioned Italian food and a dance floor for dessert! What a night we had! Started out with a table filled with apps including fried calamari, bruschetta, sausage & broccoli rabe, sauteed peppers(sweet & hot), prosciutto with fresh mozzarella and olives. I'm sure I am forgetting something! For dinner everyone got to choose what they wanted off of the menu and what a selection! I enjoyed some luscious langostino, others had a veal chop that was the largest and most tender I have ever tried, different homemade pastas you could only find in "Grandma's Kitchen", Chicken (which I never order out) done many ways and when I tried it, it just melted in my mouth! For dessert we decided on cannolis to finish our meal. The best part of this place was the dance floor and the DJ who rocked the house! Haven't stayed out that late in many years! Go and take your friends and family! You won't be disappointed!

What a great old school Italian restaurant. The food was excellent and the service was superior . The garlic infused oil they served with bread was incredibly flavorful and some of the best that i have ever had. We had the mussels marinara, clams casino and blue cheese salad . All were delicious however the salad was slightly overdressed, a pet peeve of mine . Next we had the veal parm and gnocchi with a pink sauce. The veal was tender with a perfectly sweet marinara and the gnocchi were so light an airy it was hard to believe they were potato . We finish with the Tiramisu and Strawberry shortcake . The desserts were equally as good as the meal . The service was amazing and topped off an already great meal .

I'd often heard of D'Angelo's but this was my first visit. No problem getting a reservation on a Saturday evening, nice. Food was very good, service was nice. Full bar and wine selection was appropriate. Seating seemed a bit odd. We were seated in the first floor dining room and were the only people there all evening. Seems regulars were seated in the area around the bar, very limited, or on the second floor. I never went up there. If you're thinking of going, be sure to ask for second floor seating. It was a bit distracting being the only people in the room. All and all very nice. No parking, there is a public lot nearby. Not built for handi-capped. There is dancing and entertainment after 10pm. I didn't stay for the show.

D'Angelos has a nice, small bar area and dining on two floors. The food is authentic, Italian and is consistently good. The service is always warm and inviting and we always look forward to returning.

For almost three generations my family has been celebrating all our special occasions at this location. Regardless if it is for only a party of two, up towards family gatherings for 20+ individuals all at one table. The service is always the exact same Excellent! Personal and intimate," elegance is still in style" here which I just Love about the entire Restaurant and their staff. There are few places where one looks froward to dressing up for a dinner, and this is the one Restaurant where I pull out only my best to wear and be seen by those who appreciate finer old elegance. No matter what we order (over the years tried every dish at one point or another) can say all favorites. For impressing a client, future in-laws, or a heart throb, take them here and you will find undiscovered respect for your choice with this restaurant. Hands down. Go and enjoy but leave us a table for when we go.The Trimmer Family.

We had a wonderful dining experience here. We had an early reservation(6:45) and our waiter, Gustavo was very attentive. I heard we might finish quickly so we only ordered our appetizer and delayed ordering the other courses. It turned out perfectly. Sal the owner even pulled up a chair at the beginning between 2 tables and talked to us. Then he sang to me! What was so good for us was that they let us share everything as I was not that hungry. No problem. Had mussels, Caprese salad and linguine with crab(BIG chunks) and asparagus. Highly recommend it!

Seems to be a tourist restaurant. We had bad bread, dismal salad, overdone pasta swimming in sauce that would have made me ashamed to serve. Did I mention the indifferent service?

My wife and I recently went to D'Angelo's Ristorante Italiano on Philadelphia's Posh Rittenhouse Sq. The food was excellent and the service was great, my wife and I make Italian food at home, but this Restaurant's Italian food was absolutely a delight and better than ours. I had the Lasagna, it was it was very good and loaded with sausage, tomato sauce and cheese. My wife had the rack of lamb, it was cooked to perfection and was very tasteful. The Restaurant has a full service Bar and a children's Menu as well, the prices are moderate, they are not low, but it's not out of reach either. The atmosphere is very romantic with candle lit tables, the service was excellent. It's worth the visit, if you love Italian food, they have a web-site with their menu listed, and they have posted all of the prices.

Ate here in a group setting - great service, though one of the waiters struggled with English. Had the whole gambit - several apps, dinner and shared several desserts. Everything was great - glad I didn't have to pay, but would come back with no hesitations.

We ended up eating there two night, unfortunately it was two too many. I tried two different breaded dishes on different evenings and both time the breading was soggy and the sauce watery when the dish arrived. The flavors were good and the wine selection decent.

A friend from Philly told us to definitely stop at D'Angelos during our trip. She was so right!! Delicious food, top-notch ingredients, fresh and fabulous. We are of Italian descent and quite judgemental about the cuisine. D'Angelo's passed the test easily. Highly recommended!!!

We have been to a number of the more highly rated Italian restart ups in Philadelphia. I now have a new number one. D'Angelo's is excellent in every respect. Seat you promptly in adherence to the reservation. Service is timely and professionally done. Atmosphere is at it should be for a traditional Italian place. So while all else is excellent, the food is even better. Great flavors, nicely sized portions and absolutely delicious. Went with a party of five. All had different entree's and all were superb. Just a great place to eat!

We had lunch here for restaurant week and had a 3 course lunch; soup or salad, entree and cannoli for dessert for $20. Drinks, tip and tax were not included. We had to order from a special restaurant week lunch menu with limited entrees. I got the fettuccine Alfredo and it was excellent. My friend got chicken parm and thought that was good too. Strangely it came with roasted potatoes instead of spaghetti. I tasted a bite of potato and it was good but we agreed we would much rather have spaghetti than potatoes with chicken parm. The cannoli was made with ricotta cheese and tasted great but was on the small side. Overall we enjoyed our lunch at D'Angelo's.

Atmosphere is nice - upscale but not snobbish. Food is very good - solid Italian. Went with a party of 16 and sat in a private room upstairs and all enjoyed their meals. I had clams casino to start and a linguine and lump crab special in a white wine sauce that was very tasty. Husband LOVED his dish - Tony's Special Fettucine - if he could have, he would have licked the plate. It was really tasty. We sampled all the desserts as a table and I had a piece of cannoli that was excellent. After 10 pm, downstairs turns into a nightclub scene with a DJ. It's pretty fun and funny. Sal (the owner) came into our private room and serenaded us on his guitar. It was a fun atmosphere and not too expensive. I woul definitely return.

We wnet to this restaurant based 0on a friend who is a restaurant reviewer. Found a great old fashioned restaurant that reminded us of the days when Italian was less fur fur and more WOW. The food here was very good. My wife had Brocetinni, which is small braciole. Bracio;e is one hoer favorites that does not appear on many menus anymore. She was served five miniature slim slices of beef wrapped around stuffing. he said this was the real hing and it wa great. One minus not related to the quality or taste was the ridiculous up charge of $10 for pasta and sauce instead of grilled vegetable. The basic price was $25/00/ I ad chicken cacciatore with spagghetti. This was priced at $25.00 This was the real thing, half chocked chopped into pieces instead of the normal breast found on menus today. The gravy was not the typical red sauce and was very easy. We started by sharing a large F'Angelo's salad that was excellent. If any body remebwers Jimmiy Milan it is similar to their salad. For those who don't it consisted of shrimp, bacon, lettuce and other vegetable; The cost of dinner was $90 including tip. No wine, no desert and splitting a salad. A little pricey in my book but great food and excellent service, Highly recommend if cost is not an issue.

Davio's is one of those great old fashioned Italian restaurants - quiet, classy and delicious! It has a wide variety on the menu - and some great specials. The staff manages the perfect balance between friendliness and intrusion and gave some great recommendations. Very good Tiramisu, BEST Canoli in years! The only reason I dont say 5 stars is because our waiter did not mention the prices on the specials and both the appetizer and the entree off that list were MUCH more expensive than items on the regular menu.

Excellent service, food bar. I take my favorite clients every December and always a memorable experience. The owners are on site and treat every visitor like the valued clients they are. One of my favorites in Philadelphia

back in the day this place was good not great but now it seems they have lost focus the food was not good the wine list as slipped and the service was bad nice bar crowd but the owners rather be nightclub owners than bring back good food and service pass on the place

We visited D'Angelos during Philadelphia restaurant week. They had a special price fixe menu as well as the standard menu. It was a Friday night and they were busy. We went with the price fixe. They were out of the choice my husband wanted. My Braciole was outstanding. We could tell that there were many "regulars" in the place that night. We felt that we were rushed through our dinner. in fact, the salads and entrees came together. Our waiter asked the woman in charge what he should do and she replied, " Just serve it. It's fine." We might give this place another chance but they must improve on the atmosphere (tired) and service. Although we weren't regulars we do visit the city often. Philadelphia has too many excellent restaurant options to be rushed through a Friday night dinner.

The food is nice at D'Angelos, but can be very pricey. The real fun starts as the night progresses. After hours it turns into a dance club, but not for the 20 something crowd. It's a more "refined" group and the music they play is stuff people in their 30's and 40's would know, rather than annoying techno/bass thumping music. Lots of fun.

Service is a fading concept today. Fortunately, there are still a few places which remain interested in it - D'Angleo's is right there. The waiters are adults; they assist each other without interfering with the meal. The portions are generous and the food is served at an appropriate temperature. Sauces are obviously fresh and clean tasting without being too simple. You can taste the spices, but they are balanced, rather than overwhelming. The atmosphere is pleasant and unhurried with background music that never intruded. I had fried calamari, my wife had clams casino and our friend had the house salad. All were just fine. Main courses were fettuccini Alfredo, ravioli Bolognese and I had veal parmesan. This last is often scorned because it is so often badly done. When well prepared, as it was here, it is a treat for even very discriminating palates. The espresso was unusually good and deserving of notice. The wine list is large and varied, but I would suggest looking at the reds in the $50.00 range for the best value (insofar as such a thing is possible in Pennsylvania with a restaurant taking the traditional markup). Given the prices for the food - which I think could support a 20% increase without moving beyond the market - splurging a on the wine is not a stretch. Our meals were right around $35 per person, which for this level of quality and service makes for an entry on my list of fair value. For business, friends or romance, I can suggest D'Angelo's for anyone who enjoys classic Italian food and a dining experience that left us all feeling good.

What a celebration. We held a wedding after party on the second floor that was just for us. about 20 people were very happy with the food, wine and service.

We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. Because someone in our party has trouble walking the steps, we sat downstairs in a room with very little ambiance and lots of noise coming from the bar. Our server was attentive. Our caesar salads were just okay. The bread was not very fresh tasting and not warm. We all ordered different entrees and they were not bad but not memorable. My chicken cacciatore was very bony and the sauce was not a rich marinara. The escarole was good. My cousin's veal chop was mostly bone and fat. I should have ordered the spaghetti but I do not eat pasta. Desserts were okay. Coffee was strong. We will probably not come back here.

I have chosen this restaurant because I saw a number of good reviews combined with it being dog-friendly (but so are 99% of other places in Philly that have outside seating...). One word: disappointement... Do not even know where to begin. None of the servers knew anything about the menu (quite pricey too - even by NY standards) or which part of Italy the recipes come from (they pride themselves on family recipes). Based on their description I ordered something I would never have otherwise... But even so - I doubt the experience would have been any different. The presentation also lacked something (sorry I did not take pictures) and the wine - at THAT price - good but not great. Summary - lots of other places on that street you could try :-)

I made a reservation here for restaurant week. Not only did we wait an hour for the table we reserved, but the service was quite slow. The restaurant was uncomfortable and cramped. Worst of all, the food did not even taste particularly fresh. The salad was disgusting. Iceberg lettuce with nearly rotten tomatoes and flavorless shrimp. The main course was satisfactory. I ate a tortellini dish. The cannolis were pretty good. For that expense, I would never consider going back. Sarcone's deli is superior to this.

This is a quaint Ristorante Italiano in the Rittenhouse Square area. The owners, Sal and Tony, have been there for decades and the number of locals are a testament to its longevity. You are greeted and given first class attention by Sal and Gus, the bartender. The menu is great, with tasty specials, and dishes known all through Philly. The friendly and helpful atmosphere begs you to come back for more. I wish this place was in my hometown!

We came here on a Monday evening after walking out of another place due to the packed and cramped conditions (Porcini). We did not have reservations although it was restaurant week. We were welcomed with open arms. We sat upstairs in a nice quiet room. The food was wonderful. We started with escarole soup which was delicious. The next course we ordered the special salad with shrimp- also delicious. For entrees, my husband ordered the salmon and I had the veal with peppers. You couldn’t ask for better food. Cannoli was desert. My husband is Italian and he said it was the best he had in a long time. Service was efficient and friendly. We were made to feel very welcome and comfortable. We will be back.

Fantastic chicken Parmesan. Very authentic Italian. Great music. I had the rigatoni ailio oilo with broccoli. Excellent. Don't miss this Italian restaurant in Philadelphia!!!!

Nice restaurant, good food and excellent service. Very accommodating, if you don't see exactly what you want they are very willing to create additional dishes by combining existing dishes or making something new. sit outside if the weather is nice or enjoy their friendly bar befor kr after dinner. The place is popular so I recommend reservations but I have shown up without them with no problem to get a table.

What a great place! We were so happy to discover D'Angelo's. There are so many great restaurants in Philly. We happened to be staying at the Westin, which was really nice by the way, and asked the Concierge what her choice would be for authentic, family owned, really good, Italian food. We also told her it didn't need to be fancy, just good food. I usually don't go where Concierge refer because it normally isn't the best or maybe for tourists. She was spot on. We went three nights in a row it was so awesome!! Giovanni, the bartender (our server too) was great. He had a great personality and his recommendations on the menu were outstanding. The pasta was cooked to perfection. It's a small place but very quaint. The service is exceptional, not just Giovanni, but the entire staff. Don't miss D'Angelo's!!

Glad we picked this place. Very good food and good service all the way around. Special of linguine with crabmeat and asparagus was excellent.

Went here day after Thanksgiving. Had a hard time finding the place and parking was very difficult (but that is a Philadelphia problem). Went to second floor - very friendly. Table was a bit squeezed. We had a great view of the street but the table seemed to just about fit in. This was a Friday night and we didn't see any singing/dancing so not sure if we were too early? Food was very good. Wine choices very good. Bread was just OK.

Pleasant greeting and table seating in this top rated Italian restaurant. While my salmon entree was tasty my husband’s Veal Marsala was bland - did they leave out the wine? No plan to return.

We had a great meal here, salad and a specialty pasta. The decor is an old house and it was quiet and relaxing. The service was excellent and the prices reasonable. The portions are large and we split and it was plenty. Great bread with garlic olive oil for dipping.

There are not many places a large group can go eat and be noisy. D'Angelo's handled our group great. We were at two tables and a divider was in between us and the rest of the tables. Noisy is an under statement. The person who planned this, ordered appetizers for each table. Everyone said they were amazing. Everyone was sharing their main courses and was happy. I got GF pasta-which wasn't on the menu, but I was happy they had. It was delicious. Each table got a dessert sampler that was gobbled up. The one negative-the bartender didn't make a lot of drinks because they had too many ingredients--his words. That was disappointing!! All in all a good experience.

If you like authentic Italian food, this is the place. The appetizers were great and the entrees were wonderful. Don't miss the meatballs!

Looking for a place to dine and dance, my dancing partner suggested D'Angelo's. After serious negotiations for a parking place, we needed a drink. Luckily the restaurant was welcoming and cozy with a knowledgeable bartender who didn't blink an eye when I order a Kir Royale. We dined at a premier 2nd flr table. The bread was fresh, but cold--so we warmed it over our candle, the clams florentine were perfect, my veal was tender but the broccoli rabe was a bit salty. Jim's lobster was a little tough but he devoured it with the seasoned butter sauce and ate the remainder of my entree (kitchen exhausted from the Army-Navy Game celebrants?). Service was attentive. The owner greeted us and asked if all were okay. Hard to complain with empty plates. After dinner we went downstairs to dance--all salsa and bachata--give us a break! To recover, we headed to Rittenhouse Sq. Park to view the holiday lights intensified by their reflection on the rain-splashed walkways. Remedial umbrella-holding training was necessary. I was warmly kissed for my efforts--I'm bumping this guy up to date level. Thank you, Mr. D'Angelo.

A pleasant Italian restaurant with a number of selections available. The seafood pasta, while good, turned out to be quite expensive for what it was. The beverages are appropriately priced. The service was attentive. The atmosphere is somewhat dated. The dining room becomes a dance floor after dinner service on Saturday evenings.

There’s a diner near where I live in NYC. You know, the kind of place where you can get an omelette at 7:00 AM and Lamb Chops at 11:00 PM. Nothing there is bad, but it’s just good. That diner is so much better than D’Angelo’s which is somewhere at par with or slightly below stoffer’s. Lasagne was watery, and despite having sausage, mushrooms, mozzarella and a tomato sauce was somehow devoid of flavor. It’s July, and should be pretty easy to get tomatoes that actually taste like s tomato. Nope... these tasted kinda like cardboard with about the same texture. Bread for the table was similar to wonder bread (Pepperidge Farms is denser) and served with an olive oil so imbued with garlic we had to send it away. Honestly one of the worst meals we’ve had. Stay away.

Had dinner with a friend who was in Philadelphia attending a meeting Ordered the Clams Florentine & Seafood salad as starters-I've had them many times -they are consistently perfect😀-outstanding flavors -good portion size Pasta with housemade Sicilian sausage entree is always top notch Gus is a great bartender and the owner ,Sal is always on hand to welcome you and thank you

Considering the dining scene in Philly, this place just doesn't cut it. Bad food, uncreatively done. You can do SO much better in the neighborhood.

Great little neighborhood restaurant where you can go dressed as you feel. Coat check and parking available, we felt right at home in this restaurant. We had tickets to the orchestra and wanted to try something new. I found them using the open table app and though we had to eat early, we had the place to ourselves. There was music, a DJ booth, and lights for dancing that was advertised after dinner. I would definitely go back and would recommend this place to anyone who asks.

Had a group of 10 family members dine at D'Angelos and everyone was delighted. The food was very good and the waiter, Marco, was excellent and professional. We split several appetizers. Amongst the favorites were the clams casino and the Sicilian sausage. My dinner was the Braciolettini alla Mamma Marina, a beef roll-up with mozzarella and bread crumbs inside, served with fresh fettuccine. This was delicious. Another favorite was a special veal chop (3" thick) and the Veal D'Angelo, veal medallions with peppers and onions. There was no trouble accommodating our group. Parking is at a premium but there is some street parking as well as a couple of lots within two blocks.

D'Angelo's Ristorante Italiano is comfortable fine dining. It's a favorite among the Rittenhouse area locals. I had the pleasure of dining with two regular customers who were very familiar with the staff and the menu. The service was impeccable with the wait staff always ready to meet your needs. We began with wine and cocktails, that were brought out immediately. There was many notable choices for single servings of wine and the cocktails were delicious. We had salads to begin with, which was the least impressive part of the meal. Our entrees were simply delicious! The sauces and the preparation created mouth watering fare. The shrimp scallopini was my favorite dish, but the salmon was also excellently prepared. Dessert was ice-cream in a hard chocolate casing, yum! This favorite local restaurant aims to please and continues to be patronized weekly by many Philadelphians.

We sat outside which is a great option to have. Food was overall fairly good. My biggest complaint is that I ordered a tomato salad in the beginning of September and expected to get ripe tomatoes. Instead they were hard, not ripe, and tasted like cardboard - horrible. Service was good. I would say it's not a great restaurant and will never be a favorite but it is predictable. This was my third time there in two years.

My husband and I love this place. We found it by accident last New Year's Eve and choose to come back often. The bar is a great place to eat, drink, and meet friendly locals. The food is the best Italian we've had. The service is attentive and accommodating. We'll be back again soon.

Started with amazing, hearty Italian wedding soup and bread with a great garlic and olive oil mixture to dip.. my linguine with little neck clams and my husbands veal parm were fabulous.

I don't get the few negative comments here about the food. It is excellent! I've eaten here more times than I can count and have NEVER had a less than perfect dish. Service is superb! The owner is very gracious and makes it a point to sat hello to his patrons. Gus behind the bar is absolutely great. This place has an old time appeal to it. This is my go to Italian dining spot when in Philadelphia!

Our party of 10 had a memorable evening at D'Angelo's over the Army/Navy football weekend in Philly, I'm so glad I found the restaurant on Tripadvisor and that they found a table to accommodate us all. We had an incredible meal--all of us. We had great prosecco, red wine, appetizers and meals. Each person in our party enjoyed their meal very much. The restaurant really catered to us and looked out for us--as there were a lot of special requests. We shared a couple of desserts that went around the table. It's a warm, inviting restaurant, I'm sure at any time of the year. I'd go back in a minute if in Philadelphia.

Had dinner there Saturday night for my husbands birthday with my sister and brother in law. All 4 dinners excellent--pasta bolognese one of the best!, cannelloni's great, spaghetti & meatballs, done spicey brother in law loved and hubby had a veal dish with side of escarole, delicious. Appetizers were ok, next time will get salads instead. All desserts are homemade--cannolli's are not like Trenton cannolli's which are real thick, sweet and creamy-these are more like ricotta, touch of lemon-but very fresh and good. Service was excellent, gave us a table by window upstairs as requested and older italian bartendar downstairs is a GEM! Ask for the prices on the specials--very high which is surprising considering their menu is very reasonable--broccoli rabe and sausage app was $25? and dinner special of stuffed double pork chop $50?? can't figure this out. Otherwise Awesome-will go back. Wonderful old Italian place.

D'Angelo's is like something out of Mad Men. We have eaten here many times and it has gotten even better over the years. This is not fine dining in the upscale sense, but the food is excellent red gravy old style Italian-American food. Their veal parmigiana is among the best. They slice their own veal from their own leg each week. It is remarkably tender. They serve langostini which are phenomenal. The Italian wedding soup is great. My husband is a fan of their sausage with anything. They serve things like clams casino and the like which is not so much to my taste, but this place for what it does is fit for foodies. It is also family friendly and accommodates larger groups easily. A real find.

Very average Italian. Older restaurant was very empty when we were there. The concierge at our hotel recommended this place and I really don't know why. Probably won't ask for anymore suggestions from him. :)

We recently ate at D'Angelo's with some out-of-town friends. I had spaghetti with clams in a red sauce and my wife had soup and an antipasto salad. Both our meals were good. All six of us enjoyed the food and the service was excellent. The physical condition of the restaurant left a little to be desired. It could use a facelift. We would return to this restaurant.

We came here for a celebratory dinner for graduation and were brought upstairs where it was quieter and more private. The food was very good and all accompanied with lovely Italian reds and California whites. The owner was there and made his rounds to all the tables which I think is a nice personal touch. Would definitely return when looking for an authentic Italian experience.

With so many Italian restaurants in the area, it is really hard to distinguish yourself as exceptional. This restaurant is good, but not exceptional. Overall, a good dining experience and I recommend it. I had linguine and clams and it was a really good dish. Others in my party enjoyed their food as well. Service was very good. As soon as I walked in and, while I waited for some friends, a gentleman who was probably an owner or manager spoke to me like I had been his best friend for years. The waiter was very knowledgable of the menu and had a great sense of humor. I don't know the history of the restaurant, but I would guess by the employees and service that it has a long history in Philly. Tradition has some cons as we could not have separate checks for a small party. The checks didn't appear electronic, so I can understand. When we asked, the waiter gave us a look of pain, which I found amusing and we all laughed. Again, it is small complaint and I would not let that stop you from a nice dinner. A recommendation for the restaurant would be to offer Gelato as a desert. Not all desserts have to be fancy and some of us have very simple tastes. Again, a good dining experience and recommended.

My wife had the half chicken, it was good. That's about it. I had the ravioli, great but only 4 of them in the entree. Weren't too large either. Salad was good. Bread was ok and service was good. I might go to again but with so many choices in the neighborhood, I will probably try another few before returning.

Visited here recently for a business dinner. Waitress was really abrupt and not very accommodating. Was in a hurry to take our orders then forgot to ask about our salad until I reminded her. Forgot about us after we got food.. Would not do separate checks...Great chicken escarole soup but lukewarm, really bad salad, iceberg, radishes and cucumbers. How cheap can you get? Not even an olive or hot pepper. Good bread and dipping oil. Entrees great! Lobster ravioli wonderful, Beef bracciolini over fettucini EXCELLENT!! Cannoli good as well..

The food at D'Angelos is very good, you just have to know what they do best. The chicken francese is very good as is the ravioli. The fresh bread is very good as well. We've come here for dinner as well and had the veal chop. Always had excellent meals here. We had heard that after dinner part of the restaurant turns into a dance floor and is lots of fun.

One of the waiters there is an crackhead, dead beat father, who is crack out most of the time when he is working! It's a disgrace, his service is terrible!! I don't know how you got this fiend working there! Rate this place F-.

Favorite upscale Italian restaurant.Really good food. Extensive menu. Outside dining. Main dining room is upstairs. If stairs are a problem, there is main floor seating but it is not as attractive as upstairs. Full bar.s Efficient and cordial wait-staff. The smiling owner is often circulating.

We went to D 'Angelo's for a late New Year's Eve dinner (9:30). We were offered a choice of tables, either a square table at one end or a booth-like table at the other end. We chose the square table (bad choice) and were seated by the loudest patrons on that level. I know it's New Year's but the people (20 and 30 something) were literally shouting as if they were at their dining room table at home! On top of that, another very loud party was seated next to us; however, they eventually seemed to understand that if everyone shouts, nobody in the whole room could hear themselves! Despite that, the dinner was very good. D 'Angelo's offers formal service and the attendants offered just the right amount of attention to our table. They were right on it for the drinks, courses and water, but did not hover or interrupt conversation. I started out with lentil soup which as tasty like home-made, however, it could have been hotter. It was lukewarm. (I have been accused of liking my liquids in the thermonuclear mode) The main entree was broiled flounder with escarole which was a wonderful combination. Fish done nicely - flaky and light. My husband had shrimp, crab meat and asparagus over pasta in an oil and garlic sauce. Very delicious. We shared a piece of chocolate cake which was plenty! I ordered an Irish coffee, also tasted as good as it looked. Hubby ordered a regular coffee and the cup was on the small size and barely past half full. That's was a little disappointing, because the coffee was very good. We went down to the club and looked forward to a mixed crowd with a variety of music. We were very disappointed with the DJ. I felt like I was listening to the top ten on AM radio. Within the hour, he was back to the same songs we heard as we entered. The DJ seemed to have no flow. I asked for some retro - Michael Jackson. The dance floor filled up. As soon as he went back to the top ten, he was catering to the 10 younger people in front of the DJ stand, and many people left, including us. Part of the reason we chose D 'Angelo s was because we thought there was a mixed crowd with varying musical genres. We'd been there a couple of years ago, and the place was packed with all ages. Unfortunately, we will not be going back for the club part, but we will have dinner again on much quieter evening, and I'm sure we will not be disappointed with the food or service.

I stayed in Philadelphia for a long weekend and ate at D’Angelos BOTH evenings. I love the feel of it. It feels authentic and family owned/run. It is also located in a lovely, less busy part of Rittenhouse so you can sit down, relax, and enjoy your meal. My husband and I had dinner early but could not believe it wasn’t packed. My food was great. I had penne, broccoli with a garlic oil. My husband had spaghetti and meatballs. I love visiting Italy and really enjoyed being reminded of my trips while dining at D’Angelos. We will definitely return! Highly recommended!

We had a really nice dinner here. We are upstairs and the owner walked around with a guitar singing in Italian, that was cool. The wine was really great and they had a nice wine list. The bread was served with an olive oil concoction which is always my favorite. The food was delicious and the desserts were I credible. I also had a cappuccino that was very good. Great ambiance. Will definitely go there again.

I think the restaurant was family owned -It had that feel. We had excellent service and welcomed by several people! We tried the fish and pasta dishes as well as wine - all were good! We would go there again!

The Dish Pesce Adriatico! Sal and Chef Tony are known for their exquisite Italian food. They were good enough to share a recipe for a divine seafood dinner, adapted from one of the original recipes. You are encouraged to taste the incredible flavorful dish at this amazing Italian restaurant. Find your passion. Find your inner Italian. Luster says it is east, and it certainly looks it, but the full, yet simple taste combinations in this dish are anything but ordinary. We tried this dish with salmon as the main fish, although, any meaty fish can be used here. This is not your mother’s poached salmon though. The succulent meat of the fish, encapsulated in a bath of butter, herbs, turmeric, capers, and red wine vinegar, is surprisingly light, even as the full body of red wine vinegar enriches the sauce. The always delicious shrimp and delicate mussels add and extra special accent. Buon appetito!

The best italian food we have had in Philly. However the service was very slow and then once we did get our food, the waiter continuously tried to remove our plates when we put our fork down. For such a nice restaurant it was annoying to have part of the group eating, some of the group with plates removed and the waiter rushing us. Having said that, we would give it a only second chance because the food was outstanding!!!

Well this was the meal I was looking for! We had eaten at Osteria's the previous night. It was good but not great. I was hankering for delicious authentic handmade pasta and sauce and meatballs. D'Angelos had won a Best of Philly Award for this very dish, so I was excited to try it. It did not disappoint, wow! I loved it. The portion was so generous that I was able to enjoy it for lunch the next day too. The ambiance was romancing, the service great, and the wine paired to the meal. I would definitely go back!

Our hotel recommended D' Angelo's so we thought we would give it a try. We had just spent time in South Philly and noticed the attire had changed as we got closer to the center city resturant. They were pretty busy when we arrived and had a bit of a hard time seating people. We sat down stairs which has a full bar. They also have a nice wine list. My husband ordered veal saltimbuca which was not on the menu. It was nice of them to accommodate us. My pasta dish was a bit bland and my husbands was ok. The waiter was very attentive. Evidently they have dancing on the weekends which I'm sure folks love. It seems to me this place is a local favorite but not a place I would visit again.

This is an old-style Italian restaurant about a block off Rittenhouse Square. Large space with several floors. Menu mostly Italian classics, nothing fancy. Food very good but far but best Italian we've had. We sat outside with dog and watched mostly older customers file in and out. Many seemed long-time, loyal patrons. The silver-haired owner made his rounds to check on everyone. Overall, a fun evening that at times felt like a series of 'Jersey Shore.'

I had not been here in years and was curious to try it again. I met my friend and we sat outside which was pleasant. The dos, however, was BAD! whichwasvery
Best Italian Food in Philadelphia
That maybe a stretch given the quantity of really good Italian restaurants here in Philadelphia, but D’Angelos has it all. Atmosphere, great food and a great staff. It’s a family owned neighborhood restaurant. My favorite is the seafood salad. The Tagliatelle Bolognese is fantastic. And it’s always fun chatting up Gus behind the bar.
