Come to Daddy

By joncgif |

The food is so good for breakfast or burgers that if eating this type of food made you lose weight, I'd be a high school skinny.

Who knew?

By Margo W |

First time there so we ordered everything small. The granddaughter had a reg hamburger and I got a jalapeño cheese, small fry and small drink, all for under 10.00.... Wow, we were both so full. Parking stinks at lunch hour

Wonderful, wonderful hamburgers

By 469mildredc |

we have been eating and enjoying Dan's Hamburgers for many, many years and they are the very best. Also wonderful fried onion rings! Makes me hungry to write this. They also have wonderful breakfast tacos!

Simply the best.

By PiratewannaB |

I've been coming to Dan's for years because they are the best breakfast for the money you will find in Austin. Grills are clean, eggs done to perfection, good coffee, huge portions, and a happy staff. This has all been said before, because it's true. Very clean establishment. A very legit Texas breakfast! They also have a great lunch and dinner for the same reasons. It's the kinda place old couples come regularly. I don't see how anyone could be disappointed with this place.

Great onion rings. Surprisingly, really good breakfast tacos as well. Food made fresh so allow a little extra time.

The Standard By Which All Other Burgers Should Be Judged!

By jimmN8258LB |

I'm Austin, Texas - born and raised...and have eaten Dan's Hamburgers for as long as I can remember. For about 12 years I traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada and I always looked for the best burger joint in that town or city. Simply stated...Dan's is the standard by which I judge all other burgers! I couldn't find a burger that could touch 'em! They are the BEST, hands-down! Try a small, double-meat, double-cheese with all the fixin's, a side of Fritos and a double-malted and I guarantee you'll think you've died and gone to heaven (hamburger heaven!). Oh, don't forget about those big ol' breakfast tacos and just breakfast period!!!

Good dive burgers

Serves decent diner-style breakfast. Very inexpensive, diverse crowd seeking simple diner fare.

Stop in for good country breakfast, hot coffee and friendly staff

By TallTex_Austin |

Do not get to Dan's much as I did when I lived in South Austin. Was in the hood and the 71 Ben White was backed up so I got off and stopped in at Dan's. Seat yourself. Was there mid-morning and place still busy. Fast friendly wait staff. Kept my water and coffee full. Had the Omelette supreme? hash browns and biscuits. Plenty of food for the price. Good place to watch the regulars too.

An Austin Burger Institution

By Roger D |

If your looking for old school burger and fry bliss step up to this counter! If you seek a burger made to your spec, no artisan bread buns, blue cheese, Kobe, no fancy pants interiors or any of that you'll love Dan's. Simple burgers made to order by burgersmiths forging their craft one at a time!

Oh yeah, great burgers

Outstanding burgers and onion rings. Great service. Easy in and out. Fast food at it's best. Don't miss Dan's if you close.

Their breakfast is great, their country fried steak is great, their burgers are great, their milkshakes are great. They get pretty packed for breakfast and weekends. But its well worth th wait.

Recently refurbished, now with drivethru

By chubtor |

I can only review Dan's Hamburgers on Manchaca Road as far as breakfast is concerned. We have been going there most Sundays for about six years now and have always been delighted with the menu choices, the quality of the food and the service staff. About a year ago they closed for several months for a total refurbishment so the old, tired building has gone to be replaced with a bright modern diner complete with a drivethru service. And this latter item has given rise to slightly slower service as staff now have to cope with this facility in addition to waiting on tables in the main dining room, however this only occurs at peak breakfast hours and if you arrive before 8.30am on a Sunday you will have no problems with service. If I have one criticism of the new Dan's it would be that the car park is far too small for the level of business at peak times.

Dont miss this place

By srvtx |

Dans is an Austin legend. Always good. Great breakfast and awesome burgers. Shakes are good too. Parking is improved and its a good thing because they get crowded. A must do if your in the area.

Dan’s just keeps getting better!

By Adan_Lerma |

My wife and I took our 5 year old grandson to meet an old friend for lunch at Dan’s Hamburgers today and it’s hard to express how glad we are they not only continue to maintain their great prices and tasty burgers, but they seem to have kicked it up a notch in terms of taste and service - amazing! Fast, inexpensive, and quality (including their nice chunky size brownies filled with nuts!) And if you need something for a younger one, like we did (or a smaller choice for yourself), then the grilled cheese sandwich with a bag of chips for $2.49, I can tell you first hand, not only looked delicious but was gobbled completely up the 5 year old. From (or to) the mouths of babes :)

great burgers

By icucuc |

just a good ol' greasy burger...always good, friendly service. breakfast is great also. my wife claims that dan's has the best pancakes of anywhere...

Good Old American Drive In Burgers

By Delwin Goss |

There is just no way any burger joint on any level can beat dan's for that good, old fashioned American Burger Flavor. Don't forget to try a malt and curly fries. And if you're looking for a great breakfast American Roadhouse style? Dan's has it. For the Winter months? I love their Sausage Gravy and Biscuits with a sausage and scrambled egg. For teh Summer months Two eggs scrambled with biscuits, sliced tomatoes and three of the thickest [pieces of bacon you're going to find anywhere! I love me some Dan's!!

Best Hamburgers

By Jon Grumby |

This place is an Austin tradition. Old fashioned burgers like only a few places still have. Two locations in Austin. Takes you back to 1950s food.

Real Food for the Fearless

By coeurclair |

Have eaten breakfast and burgers several times at the North Lamar location. Each time has been an "Oh yes, this is what food is supposed to taste like" experience. Dark yolked eggs, crisp hash browns, huge biscuits and bacon that is BACON. The service is pleasant and the coffee cup is refilled regularly. There are plenty of other options but I haven't gotten around to trying them. The hamburgers are offered in enough sizes and formats to satisfy any appetite, provided that it is not obsessed with dietary restrictions. This is a place for people who eat with both hands and live life to its fullest.

Great double jalapeno bacon burger and fries! Fast and simple.

By Iamav8 |

This place is great, simple and service is fast. We stopped by after traveling to Austin all day. We were served quickly with great food. You know when a burger joint is good when the parking lot is packed at 2:00 in the afternoon.

Hope rules Dans Hamburger

By markbO6671QD |

Dans on Manchaca rd is awesome. Especially if you get Hope for your waitresses. Shes crazy and we are ok with that Best Breakfast Tacos in town.

Excellent burgers for a...

By JAMSquared |

Excellent burgers for a good price. They also serve some dinner type options, but I always go for burgers and fries. Plus they serve small, medium, and large burgers.

Disappointed Customer

By Delia A |

Today I have found out after coming to eat a Dan's more than 30 year they no longer have large burger. This was the only place I knew of my boys would get full with their large delicious cheese burger now they only have small and medium... my sons were still hungry... it's very disappointing!!😔😡🤬

Great Hamburger

By Omar R |

This restaurant serves Mouth-Watering hamburger. It was cooked and dressed to perfection. The fries were superb as well. I highly recommend it.

There is nothing special about this burger

By akshahda |

The place was dirty (which I can overlook if the food is great), but it wasn't. The burger was no better than a chain restaurant.

Solid Hamburger

By theresahauser |

There's nothing too fancy about this place and it doesn't look like much from the outside but the food was good. It was a busy but it only took about ten minutes to get our food. You order at teh counter and then sit and wait for them to call your number. They were filling, tasty, and cheap. We got the curly fries and they were nothing special but I'd come back again for the burgers.

Buy local(ally) at this family run Austin burger chain established in 1973. Angus beef.

By capitollover |

Great burger! And, the money stays in the local community unlike the national burger chains. The hamburger comes with mustard (of course, this IS Texas, after all), lettuce, dill pickle slices, tomato, onions, beef patty, and grilled (white) bun. The Angus beef patty was cooked to perfection, and the rest of the ingredients were fresh. The sizes are small, med, and large. That is the bun diameter, and the meat diameter. Unlike some of the "fancy" burger places, the meat is thin so you are actually able to open your mouth wide enough to bite into it. Also offered is a cheeseburger, a double meat, or a double meat and single cheese. These come in Sm., med, and large as well. And, you may customize the veggies or add Hickory Sauce. They have a sandwich menu, a dinner menu, and an extensive breakfast menu (6:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.) I often pass this location and see the block long line along Manchaca. The reason is that the food is great and inexpensive. Don't miss it.

A little disappointed

By rkserv2002 |

We have been coming to Dans for over 35 years and absolutely love their old fashioned juicy hamburgers. That being said today’s visit was a little disappointing. The buns were very dry not soft like they always were. Hopefully it was just a one time thing. We will give them another try and hopefully they will have their buns back to normal.

Breakfast Review

By TomP7433 |

I've been wanting somewhere new to grab breakfast tacos on my way to the office besides Rudy's and Hat Creek - Dan's is that new place. 3 good side breakfast tacos for $6 is a heck of a deal. I preferred the bacon to the sausage but both were good. Tacos would be a tiny bit dry without salsa, luckily they have good salsa.

It's Always a great day when your at Dans

By Marion B |

Whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner we love the food and service! So many great choices. Food is always hot and our order is always correct.

UGH

By Patrick B |

Dan's is to be avoided. Poor service matched with bad food-not recommended.

Cold burger

By GStroud |

Went for a burger, ordered two and a chicken fried steak. We ordered "homemade" onion rings too, they came out of a bag. The burgers were not hot and the steak sandwich tasted like cardboard.

Not trendy, just tremendous!!

By Dan M |

My wife and I, and 3 and 6 year old kids stopped to check out Dans. We had heard it was good but was pleasantly surprised at how good. This is not any sort of foofy, high brow place at all and it smells like cooked meat and grease! I liked that. We all ate to our over fill and still paid a normal if not lower price than most trendy or chain places but Dans far out tastes them. Just a solid great burger place. Haven't tried breakfast yet but am sure it will be top notch too. Very worth a stop. Dan Morgan

Quick, cheap and tasty

By Jen78703 |

I was attending a concert in the area and wanted a cheap, quick place to grab a bite. This fit the bill. Plenty of parking. Easy to get in & out of. It's a basic burger joint. Nothing fancy. You order at the counter. I asked for some minor changes to the menu items and it was no problem. Our food was served promptly and hot. I think I'd like to try breakfast there- looks like it would also be good.

You went back in time to get this!

By Wayneamoondo |

These burgers are incredible. I feel like a little boy with a great big burger!! It has that greasy wholesome taste!!

The Split

By AsiaSue |

So Dan and Fran split. It did not tarnish their hamburger. If you want a good old fashioned hamburger, this is the place to go.

The hanburger's hamburger

By jonathonlevy |

Well, when you turn the burger into something special, you get Dan's. They care, and cook each one one-at-a-time, the way you want it. Danger, grease. Comes with the territory.

So so good!

By Eliza |

Super good cheeseburger. Simple diner. One of the top burger places! Friends staff. I can’t think of any negative to this place!

Best for fast food. Especially since there isn't an InNout burger in austin

Funky place. Great Angus Beef Burger! 😎

By wildbillwww |

Dan's Hamburgers have been in Austin for years. It's a small local chain that specialize in Angus beef hamburgers. THEY DO NOT DISAPPOINT! The building is older and sparse, but well maintained. Ignore the atmosphere and concentrate on the burger. If you're hungry, order the large! WOW! It's big, meaty, hot, and good! The price is better than a McDonalds! I'll be back! 😎

Burgers and fries, what kind of pies,,,,,,

By TSavastano |

Okay there are no pies, the title is an homage to Tom Waits classic song “Eggs and Sausage.” (Ask Alexa to play it). Anyway,,,,,,,,,as an out-of-towner who visits Austin often to see family, I enjoy checking out the many different types of restaurants this city offers. I am seldom disappointed, and I am happy to say Dan’s was no exception. Now I am not a burger guy, at all. I may have them maybe a couple of times a year. However, I brought my two grandchildren with me (ages 5 and 3) and decided to take the plunge with them. Right off the bat the staff was super friendly and very helpful. I ordered burgers for us all, they offer two sizes, so I got the smaller ones for the kids, and I got the regular size. They were cooked medium and loaded up with vegetables, and pickles. I had to scrape off all of this as the kids took an immediate dislike to all of these additions. Next time I will specify to keep it simple, just plain cheeseburgers. Anyway, once the burgers were re-worked they dug in. I didn’t have to cajole them at all, they really liked them, and so did I. The biggest surprise of all were the brownies for dessert. They were truly great, moist and fresh. I even took one home to have later, after they went to bed! This was an experience way better than any of the major fast food joints, which I would never re-visit, and the price was right too, about $20 for burgers, drinks and an order of great curly fries to share along with the brownies. Another Austin winner!

Great tasting Burgers

By Madeline C |

My husband and I couldn't decide what to eat for dinner so we decided hamburgers from Dan's Hamburgers. It had been awhile since we've been to Dan's and no regrets. Hamburgers, onion rings and curly fries is what we ordered and everything was delicious. And the grilled onions are good too.

Driven by many times. Decided to stop

By BillR2010 |

The address on our receipt shows this location as 844 Airport Blvd, Austin, Texas 09/04/2012 09:47AM Chk 1405 Tbl A1/1 Order # 5 124 Mary O Breakfasts were very good as was the quantity of food. Coffee was good and hot. Place looks clean. A little noisey due to the number of people being served. Only downside was no lemonade. Did not need to be fresh sqooze as the soda fountain kind would work well.

the best burgers!

Another Great Austin Eatery

By TexasHunter270 |

I have had everything from breakfast to burgers. I have even taken groups. The food is great and the service is also.

Great burger!

By Dartanian1 |

We are relocating to the Austin area and were getting hangry after looking at houses all afternoon. We wanted a quick meal, not from a chain restaurant, but no frills. We were near this location and it had great reviews on yelp. Great burgers. Curly fries were good too. Cool vintage 50's hamburger joint decor and vibe indside too. We will be back!

Great

By Liztravelsandeats |

Love the checkered floor and diner feel. Food is great and simple. Burgers and fries. There is a kids menu too. Portion of curly fries is very generous a small is enough to share for two.

Great Value

Check out the Breakfast Tacos...they are HUGE and a great value !

Best Burgers In Austin

By J&J |

Burgers at Dan's are probably the best I've ever had. Great taste! The medium burger is plenty - they also come in large and small (which is more like a kids size). Very affordable. Gets busy at lunch. Apparently very popular for breakfast as well. Clean restrooms.

Best Burger in Austin

By CJM2012 |

Anytime my teenage son and I foray into this North Austin area, we have to stop at Dan's. These burgers have remained the best I have eaten at a price I can afford for over 30 years!

Austin's Best Old-Fashioned Hamburger

By BJ T |

I went to Dan's for dinner and it was delicious, as usual. My cheeseburger, onion rings and vanilla malt were every bit as good as they have been throughout the decades I have been eating here. It is always tasty and I think it is Austin's best old-fashioned hamburger.

Great food for a little cash.

By PiratewannaB |

This is a prime example of the best of cafe's you stop at throughout the great state of Texas! Kind of place with lots of regular customers. You'll get an awesome meal for a very small investment! Their breakfast is one of the best, as it's never overly greasy, and they do eggs well! Big portions, so bring an appetite!

Only went once and it was better than Mcdonald's.

Good Standard Hamburger

By Jennifer S |

I have been told that this burger is considered the "best in Austin". It was good but I just don't consider it anything special. It's a certified Angus Beef patty with the toppings you want on it. Good but pretty average. For me to rate a burger place as 'excellent' they need to do some unique things or use unqiue ingredients.

Great Burgers

By Niraheto |

Dan's has come a long way since my first visit to Austin it still has the best Burgers and Fries as well as Chocolate thick shake be prepared to wait. They now have a drive thru which limits parking but i feel well worth the wait

One of or the best burger in Austin!

By Calpotts |

I'm a burger girl and I grew up on Dan's Hamburgers. They melt in your month! They have different sizes and number of patties so you can get whatever you want. Their other food besides burgers is good to but I just go straight for the double meat double cheese plain and dry. The place is just a local, family burger joint so don't think it's anything fancy.

It has changed

By Pauline S |

It had been awhile since I ate at Dan's, before they renovated. I had been there for breakfast a few times, but never had their burgers. Before renovations, they had table service, which I thought was quite nice. The burger was good, but nothing special, the counter service was friendly and efficient.

Repeat visits so consistently good!

By Adan_Lerma |

My wife and I never seem to have to consider whether to go to Dan’s Hamburger. It’s always clean, welcoming, inexpensive, and a good lunch. The same was true today. The cashier patiently let me adjust / change our order as a friend joined us and we wanted just one check. Briskly, with good humor, she made each change and adjustment - upsize the onion rings; put the onions for my small bacon cheeseburger on the side plus add both mayonnaise and mustard; one jalapeño cheeseburger all the way; ice tea, cups for ice water; oh, and one of those nutty brownies - that one, on the end with the big rise of crust on one end.... Then my wife and I settled in for an hour and a half visit with our friend. Typical, nice visit. We’ll do it again (smiles).

Pandemic ready! Fast & Delicious!

By Suzie S |

We just survived 90+ hours with no power and no running water. My husband called around to find a restaurant that was open. Dan's answered. The lady said the line was crazy, but it was moving quickly. My husband said the line was out on the feeder, but the lady was not exaggerating. We are feasting on absolutely delicious burgers and fries and chicken strips right now. And their gravy is A+!! I absolutely will be eating Dan's Hamburgers from here on out. Thank you to everyone who works there!!! We appreciate y'all SO much!!! Best burger I've ever eaten!!

Classic Austin

By TallyHoHoHo |

Great, simple, classic American breakfast. Since they can be very busy, service can fluctuate, but always a good meal. The hamburgers aren't as good as before the remodel, but if you stick with breakfast, you won't be disappointed. Don't expect a fancy place. This is Austin down-home.

Best burgers in Texas!!!

By Bonnie H |

The burgers and onion rings are delish at Dan's. They use high quality beef on their burgers...... I love the decor, too!!!

Perfect Breakfast for years!

By stubljumpr |

I lived in Austin years ago(10) and most mornings after getting off work, ordered brekkie tacos to go, they were good then and just recently went back for brekkie. They are still good. It is still clean, servers friendly and service fast. The only glitch is parking, but, was able to park down the street and walk about a block back. The serving size is more than enough and really could have shared my 3 tacos easily. My friend loved her eggs/ bacon and pancakes. Nothing left on her plate either

Yummy

By upandaway1984 |

Quality burger and onion rings for a fair price. This place is popular, so you might have to wait a short while to get your food.

One of the best

By 512FoodBlog |

If you want an authentic fast food cheeseburger look no further. Nothing fancy in the restaurant decor or in the good but it’s just a darn good burger. Curly fries too! Cash only

Eat here all the time. Close to work. Burgers are great! However, don't overlook breakfast. Great breakfasts, too! Quick in and out. Fast 'to go' pickup.

Great customer service

We had double cheeseburgers, ham and cheese sandwich and onion rings. The food was fantastic for a hamburger joint. Stephan was our server and he had he was personable, polite and had great customer service. Stephan made our visit extra enjoyable.

This place has the best homemade cinnamon rolls, fresh. I do love their steak dinner as well. Good Value

This is one more good Hamburger, hands down.

By BudgetTravelerMR2 |

I finally got my wife to Dan's Hamburgers and she was amazed how much the hamburger tasted like those she used to get as a kid back in Chattanooga, TN. Don't know how they do it, but they are certainly some good hamburgers. Too the fries and milk shakes aren't too bad either. Worth a try!

Perfect!

By Angelita78704 |

This place is always clean, friendly and fresh and delicious. Just like grandma used to make it. 😋. Don't let the parking or the fact that it's always packed scare you away. They know how to crowds and the wait is never long.

Very good breakfast, at its most egalitarian

By barretta |

First visit. Excellent biscuits and gravy. Bacon and sausage were both a significant improvement above Jim's. Eggs were done as ordered. Despite the comments of others we found our waitress to be pleasant, attentive, and altogether pleased to be helping us and the others close by. An interesting mix of breakfasters, from a pleasant but obviously homeless guy to several Mercedes' in the parking lot. And a continuous stream of cars at the drive through. Altogether a good first experience at DSan's for brekkie. We'll be back.

Best Old Fashioned Burgers

By BabsTX |

I lived in Austin 6 years, and drop in at Dans when I am in Austin. There are also several Frans' too because Fran and Dan got a divorce, and Fran got half the chain. It is only an Austin chain, and it is cheap eats that are great.

Great Breakfssr

By scook3 |

Dan’s has a large selection of breakfast items with bacon, sausage and ham as meat options. Eggs cooked to order including omelettes, pancakes, lots of sides such as potatoes, sliced tomatoes and grits. Biscuits and Gravy for those that want a Southern option. Breakfast Tacos too.

try the breakfast

By austintxtraveller19 |

The hamburgers here are good, but not the best in town. However, the breakfast tacos are really tasty and unbelievably cheap. How can they turn a profit?

Great food

By Brenda M |

I had lunch the other day at Dan's with my grandson. The hamburgers and fries were very tasty, Sweet tea was just right. The fries were really good. I always try and stop and eat here when I am in town. They have renovated it since the last time I was there and it is very nice, even though I had no complaints about it beforehand. Great food and we got our food in a timely manner.

Burger spot for lunch

By CajunCritic |

After reading reviews for the best burgers in Austin we decided To go with Dans. Overall the meal was good. I wouldn't say the burger was something exceptional but the complete meal was very good and I would go back. The ordering/ menu structure was a similar feel to 5 guys. But Fans is cheaper overall and in my opinion taste better. Definitely more of a lunch spot as a dine in restaurant Our order 2 medium cheeseburgers - 7.5/10 1 large curly fry 10/10 1 medium chocolate shake 9/10 2 medium soft drinks $20

Great burgers

By grandmabobbi |

We had 2 medium size cheeseburgers and 2 small burgers. The burgers were much bigger than I thought the cashier explained, so too much of the medium size,. but it was a great burger. The curly fries were good. Definitely would come back.

Burger and a Chocolate Malt, the ultimate comfort food. Dan's has an outstanding malt. It's not just for beer ya know.
