Exellent pizza!

By pupatamppaa |

Their pizza is so good and the restaurant is cozy. You can find parkingspace for free nearby. Just go!

good pizza, very loud and crowded small space...

By jayjl |

My headline about sums it up. The pizzas and salads were good, but expect a loud, busy, crowded neighborhood joint. That may not be a bad thing, depending on whom you are dining with. Tables are small-ish, and when it's busy (which is most of the time), a party of four will be seated a table that really should be for two. Service was polite, prompt, and friendly. The food is 4 star, the whole experience is 2.5-3 star.

Amazing pizza

By greatcats |

Not New York style so don't have that expectation. Try the bacon and onion; it's amazing. They also have seasonal toppings which are great add ons.

All about Ambience

By VespagirL55 |

Thing one: there will be a wait. Thing two: there's a bar across the street, so that's not a problem. When we got the call, we sat up-close-and-personal at the bar, watching the pizza mavens at work while we sipped our wine -- I'd choose this seating for two reasons: one, it was quieter than in the dining room proper, and two: entertainment! Our Romana pizza was delicious, btw, and plenty of leftovers.

Read The Book. Eat the Pizza.

I grew up about a 10 minute walk from Delancey in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood. In the 1950s and 1960s this Scandinavian stronghold was not known for Pizza. In fact, in those days our home was an oddity because my Italian mother served "exotic" fare such as spaghetti, ravioli and manicotti. Other Ballard mom's serve white food, not red food! Times have changed! Now Ballard is attracting dedicated chefs who come with passion, dedication and imagination. Delancey and its creative force, Brandon Pettius, was one of the first on the scene and is now a thriving "landmark" of sorts onthe Ballard food trail. On our first visit a we enjoyed our first Delancey pizza (Italian sausage) so much, we decided we would slowly work our way through their menu, one pizza at a time, over the coming months. Yesterday, in early March, we paid our second visit and gave Delancey the acid test by ordering a Pizza Margherita. We were not disappointed. As one of the most simple of all Pizzas this standby is also one of the easiest to miss on. No miss here! The pizza was perfection. A crispy, bubbly, slightly charred wood fired crust. A tomato sauce that sparkled in its tasty simplicity and the perfect fresh mozzarella and basil. We paired the pizza with a house Chianti. Quite pleasing and shared a Jersey salad. Last week I finished reading "Delancey" a book authored by the restaurant's co-founder, Molly Wizenberg. Reading the book and "getting to know" the owners made the dining experience that much richer! We both loved the book! Molly is also a renowned for her food blog Organgette. We are inspired to continue on our quest to work through the Delancy menu.

Burnt Pizza

By noddlesportland |

We were a large party and able to get a reservation. It was a hot day and the restaurant was quite warm. The drinks are premixed. The manhattan super sweet and the gin drink very tart. Main salad had a nice vinaigrette but was otherwise boring. The heirloom salad was the standout. 2 of our pizzas were so burnt that they tasted burnt. The chocolate chip cookie was just a cookie--nothing special. The staff was just bordering rude. Waited for years to make it here but would not recommend .

quaint pizza joint

By redBerry30 |

long wait time, limited seating and loud chatter, but the food is very good and worth all the hassle to get it we had an unique experience though.our attendant forgot to take the order to the pizza maker and then she offered them free after the 1 hr wait! well the pizzas were tasty except the white pizza.

Delectable pizza! So fresh and flavorful.

By kpfamily |

Pizza is pizza, right? Well, not at Delancey! The pizza here is superb, as are the salads. Try the tomato salad for a real burst of fresh flavor. I like how almost all of Delancey's products and ingredients are locally sourced, too. Be prepared to wait for a table, even on a weekday. This place has become a real Seattle "find". The servers are classy and friendly, as well.

Technically perfect and delicious pizza in wood fired oven!

By Alicia |

Outstanding pizza with classic toppings and some new twists that all work. Salads are delicious (and huge, so consider splitting). I need to mention the pizza crust - it is thin, perfectly cooked and it holds up to the toppings (unlike another local pizza place that I recently reviewed). Every bite is delicious! I especially liked the fennel sausage they make in-house. The atmosphere is very casual and neighborhood hangout type of place. Not the least bit pretentious.

Nice pizza

If you're looking for good thin crust wood fired oven pizza in Seattle look no further than this! Was a nice dinner with nice wines and lovely ambience. Location was a bit far from where we were in West Seattle but a nice little nook!

A Seattle Favorite

By Nancy T |

After having been delighted by my first visit at Delancey on a previous visit to Seattle, this was a must do-again. My family enjoyed the Taco and Tiki night and I was delighted again. The ingredients were so fresh and it was our favorite dinning establishment in a two week stay!

Really?

By Bradford7050 |

I live a half block from Delancey. Took me a about a year to go there. Great salads. New age (read expensive and small) Pizza. I will take New York / Hole in wall pizza anyday. Go there for the salads and bar. "Real" pizza is else where.

Good pizza, friendly neighborhood atmosphere

By Alec D |

I really liked the vibe of the place. It was warm and inviting. The staff is very pleasant. The pizza was good and the salad was very good. My glass of red wine was excellent. Keeping in mind that not everybody get the same taste buds I can understand why some people would love the pizza and rate it is as excellent. My preferred wood fired pizza is different than what Delancey's serves. But I still enjoyed it.

Disappointed

By Matteo B |

I had high expectations, after reading the reviews, but I was bitterly disappointed. Those who say it's the best pizza in Seattle clearly know nothing about Neapolitan pizza... Via Tribunali, Tutta Bella and Pulcinella are incredibly better, not even in the same league. The vote for the pizza would be a 2 but u gave a 3 because the charcuterie we had as a starter was delicious, they have good beers on tap and the service was good. But the pizza was overcooked and the mozzarella was not very good. I have to say the tomato and the olive oil were good, but an overcooked pizza is the worst. Neapolitan pizza should never be crunchy. I'm pretty sure I won't go back. It was not very good and the fact that I had to wait 1 hour made it worse.

Worth any wait!

By Jennifer K |

It's a hidden neighborhood gem with a great cocktail bar next door. Get there early for a first seating or relax and sit next door at Essex while you wait for your table. Delancey does pizza and salad soooo well! When I go with my husband or a friend, we order a small salad and a pizza. Every one is happy! The Jersey salad is my favorite and a small is large enough to share (when ordering for 2). There are a list of pizzas and each night there are 'special' toppings you can add to a pie. The crust has just the right crunch/chew and the toppings are made from the best local! As a local, I should keep this place a secret but it's hard not to share!!

A might fine Pie

By tb911 |

Thin and crisp crust -- no need for knife and fork. A bit of char is their style, too much for my wife, but I was fine with it. Small, a little noisy, not too bad, great staff, efficient service, nice appetizers too. We had cauliflower -- tangy, wife said maybe too much so. Overall, fantastic.

Pizza done right!

By Randy Portland USA |

First time dining here in January 2017. Cute little place, with very little seating; we got there when it opened in 15 minutes later it was crammed! After trying their Pizza I can see why. Two drinks two salads and one sausage pizza came to $49 plus tip. At $17 for the sausage pizza about a 12 incher, we had enough to bring two slices home. The crust was done perfectly with a nice Char on the bottom and house-made sausage. You should definitely try this pie, it's the best I've tried in Seattle!

A Perfect Pizza

By bigdog6668 |

I arrived at 4:45 PM on a Sunday afternoon and was the fourth person in line. By 5 PM when the doors opened, there were at least 25-30 people waiting. As a single diner, I enjoyed sitting at the bar overlooking the wood oven. It allowed me to not only observe the work of the staff but also to interact with them; and they were thoroughly delightful. Delancey is situated in a quiet residential neighborhood and to be honest I really doubted if SIRI had me going in the right direction. Thankfully, she did. I went basic - small Jersey salad, margarita pizza, a strong blond ale and two chocolate chip with gray salt cookies to go (for my wife and daughter); the total came to $32. I have had some fine pizza around the world, including Italy and I have to say this was a perfect pizza. I enjoyed conversation with fellow diners at the bar. A couple who lived 30 minutes away, but were weekly regulars and another Seattle couple who were first-timers. All in all, a fantastic dining experience.

A Knock Out!!

By Peter A |

When I travel, it's very important for me to "hang" where the locals do, so I continually suss out the best restaurants in neighbourhoods and I don't always want to spend high end. Delancey is just the place on 70th near Ballard Washington. Owned and operated by a local, serving up amazing Pizza and accompaniments. I was told to arrive by 5PM-5:15Pm or I could be standing inline for an hour plus. Arrived at 5:20, party of five and got the last open table. (No reservations). I started out with a nice glass of Mannucci Chianti at $9.00, a Delancey Charcuterie at $16.00 and it was plentiful for all five guests. And then the feast, a most delicious Margherita Pizza with Olives at $13.00 and their Roman at $14.00. The food was a knockout, service very very good and being in a local small Pizza joint was fun. And the line-ups..yep it was true, they came from all around to wait for a table so they too could enjoy a nice Pizza Pie. Two notes: Parking is at a premium in the neighbourhood and if you have young Children, plan to eat early, not late.

Perfect Neapolitan Style Pizza!

By Timzorrr |

Neapolitan style pizza has taken over Seattle so there are quite a few places to get pizza LIKE Delancy pizza. Delancy pizza as well as their salads and drinks are a notch above the other places...more inspired and better quality ingredients. Tip #1 Make a reservation, although if you don't, you can always hang out in one of the other restaurants on the block, while you wait. Just writing this review makes me want to go back. The only things that they could improve would be to make the wine pour a little more, it was a little on the light side. The music was great music but pretty loud. Neither of these would keep me from going back.

Made the final 4!

By Steve98001 |

12th week of the 2016 12 year old pizza championship! Got recommendation from stranger the week before that Delancey rules Seattle pizza. Was not let down. Went early on Saturday evening. Found it a charming neighborhood place. We sat at the bar and watched them crank out delicious pizzas-about 90 seconds each according to timer on phone. They seem to do what they do well. Had sausage and added nightly add-on of roasted red peppers. Cookie dough for dessert-whats not to like. Ultimately, passed test-we would drive from south end to take people here.

Small neighborhood place with great pizza

By activetravelnowthatkidsareontheirown |

Not particularly convenient but tucked away in Ballard is a great pizza place - good quality without overpowering exotic flavors. The basics are done really well here - both tomato base and mozzarella or ricotta bases with meat and vegetable add ons. This isn't Jet City type pizza but a good thin crust with quality ingredients. Good size salads too. Chocolate chip cookie with sea salt is a nice way to end the meal. Reservations only for parties 6 or more, so expect a wait for a table. Wish they offered a selection of toppings you could put on at the table such as arugula, basil, maybe a bit of tomato as an after cooking add-on.

Very Solid

By astaplet82 |

My wife read a book that resulted in our making our way up here. Very unique in that the neighborhood seemed otherwise quiet, residential, and maybe a bit run down, but for this restaurant and it's attached bar. On a Sunday night there was barely any wait, just long enough for one drink in the bar. Pizza was incredible. We decided we needed to have 3 just so we could try the different sauces. Ended up taking a full pizza home, which made for good leftovers. I've had better pizza, but not often.

Great dinner and service !

By Karol64 |

We are very picky about pizza and live quite a distance away. It was well worth the trip. The pizza, recommend wine and dessert were all great. We shall return !

The Best Pizza in Town

By Tim E |

I've walked away from this place 'cos of the long wait more times than I've eaten here ... and that should say everything that needs to be said! Sometimes there's space in the neighboring Essex bar, grab a spot there if you can. The crust at Delancey is sublime and the variety of toppings are all locally sourced and delicious! I can thoroughly recommend the chocolate cookie for dessert ... it will exceed your expectations!

Great Pizza

By Pchips |

Tom Douglas, watch your back :) This small pizza restaurant was great, the crust a little burned but the toppings were fantastic. The salads are huge. I suggest for two people, a salad and a pizza. Make your way there and enjoy.

My favorite pizza ever!

By Joan H |

You will wait to get in, try hanging out at Essex, next door, it has the best burger..Have been to Delancy's since it first opened, consistently, wonderful pizza and sides. Always fresh choices and wonderful sides, salads. You won't miss on any choice but try something with whatever is fresh. And don't forget the salted chocolate chip cookie for dessert!

New York pizza was never this good

By Girlskout |

Inspired by NYC pizza, but possibly much, much better. As a native New Yorker, I'm hard-pressed to name a pizza place this absolutely delicious. Not to be missed.

This has gone WAY downhill

By seattlepat2015 |

My wife and I have been here numerous time before and the pizza was very good. Our last visit was beyond disappointing. We ordered 2 pies and both had a very soggy crust. On top of that the hostess seemed annoyed that we showed up and lectured us on where we should want to sit in the restaurant. Not going back. There's too many other good places to go without the snark.

Great pizza

By Cari W |

Really spectacular pizza. We had to wait a little while for a table but it was absolutely worth it. I'm usually not a huge fan of white pizza but this was TO DIE FOR. Order it with sausage. And I also never knew a regular, old pepperoni could taste so divine. Great vibe, great wine, great food. And as New Yorkers, we loved the play on the Lower East Side with the name of the restaurant and its cocktail bar next door (Essex)!

Best pizza I've had . . .

By hksjza70 |

All things pointed to having a poor dining experience - unseasonably hot weather, warm inside the restaurant, warm on the patio, and a wait . . . but the pizza was ridiculous. Adding it to my growing list of must have food stops in SEA.

Best pizza in Seattle

By Nick |

Having tried a ton of spots, this is without doubt the best for us. The homemade sausage was delicious, with an incredible wood fire base. So great having the Essex bar next door, which has an extensive full bar. Big fan, will be back!

Amazing

By ellaroberts7 |

The pizza is incredible - definitely one of the best I’ve ever had. It is well worth the trek from downtown Seattle, absolutely delicious.

Amazing Gem in Quiet Ballard Neighborhood

By Dermop |

Delancey’s is an amazing little gem set in a quiet Ballard neighborhood. It is always packed solid, but is worth the wait. The pizzas are amazing and they have a pretty decent wine list for a pizza place. Its thin crust pizza and they have a lot of different types that you would never ever think of eating, but are amazing! One huge plus is, that It’s very easy to find parking here, which can be such a headache in Ballard. The wait staff is very nice and attentive. The only small negative is that it can get very loud in there. As in very loud! You can find yourself yelling like everyone else does. And the long wait of course. But the pizza is so good, that it makes up for these little things. I wish they did take out, but they don’t :-(

Good pizza

By Angelo Z |

There were 7 of us so we started with the very tasty Jersey salad that easily feed us all. We tried 4 pizzas all of them very good lots of abundant and flavorful sauces and toppings. Nice wine list. Service was very good. Place was full. A good spot for pizza in Seattle.

Best Pizza in Seattle

By Mark Z |

Yes this is the best pizza in Seattle. As soon as I took my first bite, I knew this was something special. When I finished I knew that I wouldn't find something better. I really really wish they delivered or at least did take out. But I guess that would take away from their focus on making fantastic pizza. I know Serious Pie is on some lists for best pizza in the country and they certainly make some great pizza. But Delancey is better by a little bit. They also have a decent selection of wine and good service and all that. But forget anything else - go for the pizza. One thing is they do not take reservations and the place is small so expect a long wait. It took 2 hours for us to get a table after we put our name in. Best to go early to put your name in and then go somewhere and have a drink, maybe even the bar right next door.

Come early, but worth the wait

By syncomm1 |

This may be blasphemy but as a New Yorker who ate frequently at Patsy's, John's, etc, Delancy ranks up there. Unpretentious with their pies, they also serve up some interesting salads and veggies, often roasted in their pizza oven. Best bet is to arrive at opening time or before closing.

Perfect pizza

By Charlotte L |

Delancey privides you with the perfect thin crust pizza, quick service and a minimalistic interiour design which is very well done. On a critical note, you won't find a glass of wine under 8 dollar. But, we were happy :)

Best Authentic Pizza in Seattle

By Fettuccineo |

My husband and I both agree that this is the best pizza in Seattlle. No other place compares to their unique, melt in your mouth pizzas. We went a few months ago, so I don't remember if we had a favorite, but I remember finding all the pizzas delicious! The one thing that keeps us from going more often is the long wait. I highly recommend going right when they open at 5pm because otherwise the wait can be long. They own the bar next door, so you can wait their and get a drink and/or snack while waiting. Once we finally got into the restaurant and ordered, we were starving, and the time it took for the pizzas to come out was on the long side. The painful long wait almost tempted me to give a 4 star, but since I keep day dreaming about their pizza especially after visiting other pizza spots in the area, I think they do deserve the 5 star rating.

Great atmosphere - great food - great fun!

By Ballardgal50 |

Went here with a group of 6 friends for a birthday celebration. This place is fabulous! We all had drinks (the Moscow Mule was to die for) and then salads and their terrific artisan pizzas. Every bite was delicious and the service was friendly and attentive. Even though this restaurant is very close to my home, I had never been here before. I was so impressed that I have already made plans to go back with a different group! The couple who own the restaurant have a book out called "Delancy - A man, A woman, A restaurant, A marriage" that is a fun read. I makes the experience of eating there feel like you are an insider. So happy to recommend this restaurant!

Soggily Sad

By greatcats |

We have been going to Delancy for years. When it's good, it's great, but the food quality and service vary wildly. This time we ordered the margarita pizza. It was very soggy when it arrived. curious, because there wasn't anything wet on the pizza. Likely the confusion between a hot pizza and a cold plate. I was also very disappointed in the Jersey Salad. It has always been served with a Kilimanjaro of grated parm on top. Obviously they are cutting good costs, because much of the parm was absent with carrot strips taking the place of the cheese. Service has always been spotty.

Best Pizza Outside of Italy

By tcck55210 |

The Best Pizza Outside of Italy. This pizza is mouth-watering good. I don't even really like pizza, but this stuff is to-die-for-good. Service is always good and friendly. It can get loud in here, but it's all part of the ambiance. Also, they love some good old-fashioned 90's rap (Biggie, Tupac), which adds even more charm. It's not something you expect in the area. But I couldn't imagine eating this delicious pies in any other environment. The wait is always an issue, but it's never as long as they say it is and you can always drive elsewhere (or hot next door for fun drinks) and they'll call your cell when your table is ready. So it doesn't make the wait seem so bad. I REALLY wish they'd do take-out orders though, I'd be there every possible night getting me some carb-alicious pizzas. The pizza; ah the pizza. I love when they have Coppa to top a classic pepperoni pie (coppa is like prosciutto's awesome cousin). I LOVE their homemade sausage on a mushroom pie. And I love ordering more than we can eat so I can take some for lunch tomorrow. NOM. Their pies have lots of toppings (more than another famous gourmet pie place that claims to be "serious") and flatter dough, which makes for crispy, gooey, cheesy, deliciousness. If you haven't ventured out here, why not? You have to stop reading these reviews and just go. This place is amaze-balls. I refuse to eat any other pizza because this pizza is so damn good. So go, enjoy, eat your heart out.

Memorable flavors, great restaurant

By Debbie N |

I've been wanting to visit this restaurant for a long time. After reading Molly Wizenberg's books "A Homemade Life" and "Delancey" (the book about this endeavor) I was so happy to experience this place. It was beyond my expectations. I consider myself a pizza connoisseur and this is my absolute favorite. My family and I had the pizza Margherita and a lovely mushroom pizza. Oh, absolutely wonderful. The texture of the crusts combined with toppings - both of them were sublime. Good beer and fantastic salad too! I must also mention the top notch staff. They were friendly and professional while the restaurant was being slammed right at opening time. This restaurant is so good. Wish we could visit more often!

Great Brickoven Pizza

By jgbeach47 |

Fantastic brickoven pizza tucked into an up and coming neighborhood. I grew up minutes away from the best pizza in the world in New Haven Connecticut and this pizza can rival that any day! The crust was thin and crispy with that delicious fresh fire taste. We enjoyed the margarita pizza with sausage which was recommended by several staff members. If you are a pizza fan, this is a must!

A one star review having never tasted the food!

By Larry S |

I have never given a restaurant less than two stars in a review, and this will likely be the longest review that I have ever written, sadly, without ever having an opportunity to sample their pizza. For a number of years I have looked forward to eating here after being told that the pizza is excellent, which perhaps it is. Having grown up in the Bronx, in an Italian neighborhood, my hobby is findin Good Italian restaurants on my travels and especially comparing the different varieties of pizza. When I arrived in Seattle in 1970 it was almost impossible to find a decent, let alone good, pizza. Since then some of the best Italian food I have experienced has been eaten here and I am blessed to call some of the local restaurant owners good friends. Enough of a preface: Last evening I visited Delancey for the first time. It was crowded and I was not sure I could be seated which was fine by me. I entered, preceded by a young lady and stood aside waiting for the waitress/hostess to speak to me. She never looked up, nor was I acknowledged. She continued to speak to this person an then her friend who entered a few minutes later. After more than ten minutes of conversation this couple were seated. I then said I was alone and would like to eat here. The waitress pointed to a seat at the counter between two people that was literally no more than 30 inches of space. I then pointed at two empty tables at the front door asking if I could sit there and was told “I don’t seat anyone there it is for people with takeout orders, your wait will be 45 minutes.” I graciously said thank you (despite feeling rudely treated). I returned to Delancey today, 15 minutes before it opened and found I was being waited upon by the same person...I guess just the luck of the draw. I ordered a glass of wine, a white pizza (years) with extra garlic. When the pizza came, I noticed something on the pizza I did not recognize, tasted it, and it was bacon. Upon asking the waitress why there was bacon on the pizza, I was told because she heard me order extra garlic and bacon. Well I left after a sip of wine (just a so-so Italian wine with very little body) and a horrible bacon aftertaste in my mouth. I am sure the pizza is probably quite good here but I will not return as I do not think I want to see this rude, self centered waitress again and be treated poorly after she made a mistake! Excellent pizza can be found at Puccinella on Rainier Avenue, Verracci on Market Street, and any of Joe Fugere’s Tutta Bella restaurants. Each of these places has an excellent choice of red wine and very good customer service.

The White Pie is awesome.

By Joaquin_Reyes_MD |

We went out of our way, out of the “tourist” area to visit Delancey’s. It was a little bit of a wait for the food but when it did arrive it was excellent. I think of the many pies we tasted the “White Pie” was chosen as the group favorite. And , of course, do not leave without trying one of their cookies.

Great pizza..pretty good service...overpriced cookie

By wooguy |

I hate these on line review sites,,,they are all forums for people who know little about food and want revenge.. .the management of the sites placate themselves by making statement that "these are opinions of users not the website" That being said...it is the only way to let peolle know when a great mealk has taken place. Delancey...best pizza I have ever eaten...Brooklyn with Lardo...exceptional and I have eaten at Bianco, Mozza, Serious Pie (not in same league)...I live in CT and frequent New haven meccas and NYC...etc etc.. Charcuteire platter was exceptional...buttery prosciutto...just outstanding. Chocolate cookie...just OK...and for $3.75...put a little more salt on it...

Great place with yummy food and excellent service

By Claudetteth |

The staff at Delancey's have worked here for a long time and that by itself is a tribute to this nifty little neighbourhood restaurant. The menu is not fancy - just pizzas, a few salads and delicious cookies for dessert (there are other things on the menu - but this mostly the jest of it). If you like tomatoes, do order the heirloom tomatoes salad - even if you don't like tomatoes, I think you will love the flavor of these tomatoes. The large Jersey salad easily feeds at least two people and we stretched it to feed 4 of us. We then ordered 3 pizzas: the mushroom pizza is full of cremini mushrooms and is just perfect if you like these succulent little fungi. The pepperoni pizza is always a favorite and the plain romano - cheese and tomato sauce is great for the little ones. The place has an extensive liquor menu and we enjoyed apple cider and beer with our food.

Fabulous Pizza!

By KathOMcGuire |

Having read the book , Delancey, I was anxious to try the restaurant. I enjoyed the pizza and salad immensely. The fresh ingredients...the pizza crust...the fun atmosphere...well worth the wait. Next time,I'll get there early. I cannot wait to go back!

Off the beaten path and worth the journey.

By FlyingCapricorn |

Once again this little neighborhood place impresses me and wows my guest. I have been here a handful of times and enjoyed each visit. Tonight my best friend (vegetarian) came with me. I was delighted as usual and he was blown away by the experience. The sheep's milk feta and fresh tomato salad was a nice light way to kick off the evening. The mushroom pizza with seasonal roasted peppers was a real delight. Once the fresh house-made ricotta and fresh mozzarella cheese pizza came with preserved lemons we both were in love (with the food). Wash all that down with some pretty refreshing smart cocktails and you will have any guest impressed and wanting to return. Service was on it and friendly without being too relaxed. We only had a ten minute wait for our table. Lucky us!

Fantastic New York style pizza!

By Ralph N |

The pizza dough is wood oven fired for a fresh, just right crispy but chewy texture. The toppings are all fresh bought each day. The "special of the day" are a reflection of what is fresh in season. 12 of us went for my wifes birthday and every thing was awesome! The food, the service, the price. No down side to visiting Delancey.

Amazing Pizza

By bg102102 |

We went to Delancey early on a Sunday, at opening. The staff is friendly and the pizza is absolutely amazing. The mushroom pizza was especially good. Nice wine selection.

Not bad, not great!

By Carol I |

Nice eating space. Okay food. Okay service. A very neighorhood-ish restaurant. Tables are moved to accommodate large groups or friends and/or neighbors. There was a birthday party there along with lots of people. The eating area is good sized, but the noise and talking was loud. We ordered their pizza after a good long wait for two. Wanted to get a good sense what the wait was about because there always seems to be a long line. Pizza was okay. Fairly typical wood fired pizza. Nothing to shout out. We had heard their chocolate chip cookies were delicious so ordered a few. Nothing to shout out again. This was not an awesome experience, but not a terrible one either.

Best Weeknight Datenight

By TillieBB |

Sometimes it's hard to get a seat here, but wait it out! Go next door to Essex and have a drink in their bar and maybe an appetizer. Love the pizza. It's so delicious. Waitstaff and owners are fantastic. The place is not pretentious, which is getting harder to find these days in Seattle. I just get such a good feeling spending my money here on their food. This is one of the few Seattle spots that I repeatedly go to and I don't even live in Ballard. It's worth the crosstown trip.

A must stop in Seattle

By Marcie S |

When I visit my son every few months this is the first place I go to eat. Their pizza is amazing, especially the white pizza. Cooked to perfection and worth the sometimes long wait. You can always go next door for a drink while you wait. And, if you have room afterwards the chocolate cookie is amazing.

Well worth the trip! Best pizza ever!!!

By Karin H |

Charming pizza restaurant with real wood fire oven. The proprietor is experienced and has well studied his subject, Delicious pizza, great beers and amazing desserts. If only I lived in Seattle, ID be there every week. What are you waiting for? GO, go now!!!!

Best thin crust pizza, ever!!!!

By grollett |

I'm ashamed that Delancey is only 10 blocks from our house and we just now wandered in for a major treat. We ordered a margherita and a clam pizza, and they were both 'close your eyes' delicious. the decor...oh wait, there is no decor! Yes, it's noisy, but it's alive and yummy, and the service is the best...thanks, Danielle!!! We will return, no question about it.

Does not live up to the hype.

By Oliver S |

Delancey has good pizza and a fantastic atmosphere, but it is easy to get better New York style, Chicago style, and Neapolitan style pizza at several other pizzerias in Seattle. We had the White Pie and the pepperoni pizza. The crust at Delancey is only average. The toppings, the cheese, and the sauce are above average, but not amazing. This is a good place for couples, but not particularly family friendly.

Pizza and more

By Leverett L |

Great brick oven pizza. Salads are great too. Some of the crusts were a little dark for my taste, yet overall - great pies, service, and staff.

Superb pizza and fabulous cocktails!

You must try Delancey if you live in Seattle or are traveling to the city. The food is fantastic and service was friendly and engaging! The food is made with tremendous attention to detail and flavor. We had a special pizza that was made with sweet corn and fresh basil. It was summer on crust! We started with an heirloom tomato salad that was dressed with a meyer lemon reduction. So fresh and vibrant! The cocktail list is a real treasure. They have opened a bar next door called Essex that is taking cocktail making very seriously. They are making many of the ingredients in house and each drink we had was stellar. Don't forget to leave room for dessert!

Great Pizza

By potatochip1 |

Delancey is a nice restaurant with tasty pizzas. You want to get there early because seating is a bit limited. However the pizza do taste good. I am not a big fan of thin crust pizza, but their pizzas are an exception. We order the Margherita and the Sausage and you feel as though you can eat the whole thing because you feel stuffed.

Wonderful Neighborhood Spot!

By misopiso88 |

We had folks visiting from out of town so decided to take them to Delancey. Food was excellent and staff friendly. We ordered 4 pizzas between the 6 of us as well as a couple of appetizers. Everything was DELISH! Afterward, we stopped at Frankie & Jo's next door for vegan ice cream. A great evening!

Long wait, great pizza!

By Susan G |

I have had it in my mind to visit Delancey for some time after I saw it featured on a Food Network show. We tried once before and were deterred by the hour long wait quoted over the phone. This time I was more prepared to wait, and again it was an hour. We were lucky to get seated a little early when a couple of spots at the bar opened up. Fortunately it was well worth the wait! We ordered a pepperoni and a mushroom with olive oil base. We definitely preferred the pepperoni, as to me some kind of saucy base is a must for pizza. We will be back, but the wait really is a turn off. You can't call ahead to put your name on the list, nor can you call to order a pie to pick up, they really are just that busy. I hope they open a second location somewhere nicer as the area of Ballard they are in was not so nice.

Get the cookie!

By Pumpkin_Cupcakes |

We went here on a Sunday evening a little before 19:00 and were told that the wait for two would be an hour and forty-five minutes. There's a bar right across from this place, so we thought about going there, which most people do, but we decided to stay and watch the hustle and bustle. Luckily, we were seated at the bar in about thirty minutes, but if you are coming with a big group, you might want to consider coming in earlier or knowing that you will have to wait. We had the mushroom pizza and the sausage pizza. They were both good, but we asked ourselves if we would wait an hour and forty-five minutes for them, and the answer we came up with is no. For Serious Pie (downtown Seattle), definitely yes. However, the cookie is absolutely delicious and for that, we will wait. Thankfully, you can take that out, so you can pop-in, order a cookie or two or ten, and head out the door.

YUMMY Pizza

By henny195 |

You may have to wait to get in but it's worth it! Pizza is wood-fired and airy. Try to plan to arrive just as they open - better chance of getting right in or a short wait. Also try their sides and desserts. They offer a great selection of local beers. Table service was attentive and helpful.

Excellent wood fired pizza!

By Andrea G |

Delancey is a great little neighborhood gem located in Ballard. They owners built a wood burning oven to make their thin crust pizza, which always arrives fresh, and piping hot. The toppings change with the seasons but are always high quality and mostly locally sourced. There is a great wine selection and fantastic home brewed ginger beer on tap. The other great part of the menu is the desserts - all new takes on old standbys designed (I think) by Molly from the lovely Orangette blog (look it up if you're a foodie!) The drawback is that it's small and super popular so there usually is a bit of a wait for a table (they do take reservations for parties over 6). You can also go and leave your cell number, and they will call you when a table comes up. I always go to this place when I'm in Seattle - absolutely one of my favourites! P.S. they don't do takeout!

Classy place, friendly staff, very good pizza

By Dean M |

A colleague recommended this restaurant to my friend and I to visit during our first-ever trip to Seattle. It did not disappoint. It's a classy neighborhood place, right off of a main street. We had to wait for a table and went next door to have a drink. The staff promptly notified us when our table was ready. We ordered a pizza, and it was very good. I'm from Chicago and am spoiled when it comes to pizza, but this one was pretty good.I highly recommend this place. The only issue may be parking, but spaces can be found by driving around.

PERFECT WOOD FIRED PIZZA

By travelmom251 |

Delicious pizza, quick service, pizza cooks very fast in high temp oven. Homemade sausage. My only complaint is there is no ice in their water glasses which are all set up when you are seated. Large selection of wines.Takes reservations for parties of 6 or more.Small intimate setting. Some outdoor seating, bar in next storefront and seating at counter is great for watching the pizzas being assembled.

Amazing Pizza - but don't miss the Asparagus!!!!

By tinaj1014 |

We visited Seattle and had the pleasure of eating here a couple of times. The pizza was amazing - White Pizza with lemon? OH YES!!! Simply to die for!!!! The appetizer of Asparagus with Romesco sauce is something you do not want to miss. I certainly wished we had something of this caliber in our area!

Undeniably the best pizza in Seattle. YUMMMMMMMM.

By tcck55210 |

I really can't get enough of this place and I don't really even like pizza! But Delancey is sooooo darnnnnnnnnnnnn gooooooooooooood. Recently came back with a party of 7 (any party of more than 6, you can have a reservation), so we didn't have to wait the usual 45 minutes for a table, which made the pizza even more amazing. There's really nothing bad on the menu; order everything and anything! Then take what you can't eat home because it'll take amazing the next day (or later that night!). This place is so good. And I love that they play 90's music in the background. Go and enjoy pizza for me, you won't regret it. Until we meet again, Delancey.

A Labor of Love

By hollygolightley13 |

Delancey serves the kind of pizza everyone wishes they could make at home. The ingredients are fresh and the combinations are familiar yet sophisticated without being over the top. This is due to their use of fresh and local ingredients; the emphasis at Delancey is on quality through and through. As others have shared, Delancey really has a great -neighborhood vibe going and that extends to the friendly staff as well making this the kind of casual place you can keep coming back to with friends. From the salads to the pizza everything at Delancey is made with a lot love and it shows!

Make sure to get a salad

By diana_gates |

I followed the blog before this opened years ago and really like this food. I can make a to notch pizza at home and this hits the best pizza you can have in Seattle as far as I know. Tutta Bella is also excellent, but menu of fresh salads and seasonal desserts, puts this at top. Get there early to avoid a wait.

We need places like Delancey on the East Coast.

By Lucas G |

I live in New Jersey so this may be blasphemy, but this was most definitely one of the best pizzas I've had in a restaurant. We got the Sausage pizza with kale added and it was delectable, preceded by the tomato and feta salad that was out of this world. I don't like raw tomato and I ate this salad, that's how good it was. There was a bit of a wait, but with Essex next door, we enjoyed a drink and were close by when the hostess rang us on my mobile to tell us our table was ready. The service was lacking, but I wasn't even mad as it was worth it.

The best pizza we've enjoyed outside of Italy!

By Davina |

I cannot say enough amazing things about Delancey! We found this gem of a restaurant while on a short trip last year and recommend it to everyone who visits Seattle. You can smell their freshly made sweet tomato sauce before you even step inside! We started with one of their seasonal salads that was piled high with fresh lettuce and cheese, then enjoyed the Margherita pie, which was cooked to perfection with a bit of char on the extra thing crust and the most amazing sauce. We finished the meal with the fresh-baked gray sea salt chocolate chip cookies, warm, gooey and delicious! We came earlier in the evening on a weeknight and sat on the sidewalk patio with our dog. It did get quite busy later in the evening so I would suggest coming earlier to secure a good spot (although they may take reservations now). After dinner, you can enjoy a delicious drink at their cute bar next door. We have been talking about the pizza for the last year since our first visit, and are seriously considering making the quick flight up from LA just to try it again!

Best pizza in Seattle

By Jesse B |

This is it. You don't have search anymore. A better pizza is impossible to imagine. Your taste buds will be singing (Sinatra hehehe.) Italian wood-fired oven, select ingredients (local and international,) excellent salads, and plenty of beers and wines to choose from - what more could one ask for? And on top of all that, the vibe of the business is nothing but positive, and the atmosphere designed to inspire ;-) You gotta go!

Quaint and Delicious

By Chris C |

As an out-of-towner following my GPS to Delancey, I was certain that it had made a mistake. But, alas, this gem of a restaurant popped up in the middle of a nice residential neighborhood. With seating inside and out, but with close quarters, we found a seat and quickly made our order. Everything about Delancey is about the ingredients. Simple food done well. The pizza is cooked to perfection with lots of options to suit any one's preferences. The staff is attentive, but not overly chatty, which is what I prefer. I would certainly plan a return trip.

Scorched pizza!

By Nitroz |

Daughter came in from SF and wanted pizza. Delancey was in the neighborhood, so we took her there. Pizza was served with burnt crust edges and bottom. Inedible.

Artisan Pizza

By Eurochick60 |

After following Molly Wizemberg's blog http://orangette.blogspot.com/ for several years, it was a delight to finally be able to visit the restaurant started and run by Molly and her husband Brandon. Food was good. Staff & service plesant and accommodating. Noise level was very loud, which made conversation challenging. Pizza was tasty; deserts were yummy. Molly wasn't there the Sunday evening we ate there, and that was a bit of a disappointment, but we were very glad we went.

Why bother

By Idmd |

This place used to be great. But now, you can stand in line forever despite there being open tables (an interesting policy). And you can get pizza with crust that's burnt (not lightly charred). And cookies that are smaller and not heated. So why bother?

Long wait for just above average food

By JimmyD66 |

Second visit in two weeks. First visit at around 6:30 on a Wednesday found no tables available but a seat at the kitchen bar was open. 40 minute wait (1-1-2 beers) for margarita pizza. This Wednesday went with my wife and found no tables and no bar seats and expected wait of 1.5 hours. At the time we thought surely it won't be that long....we will just have a beer and a table will open. The 1.5 hour estimate was accurate. Add 40 minutes to get the pizza and you get a poor choice for dinner. It was our choice to wait. Just that the pizza was not worth the wait and during our wait at the table the room noise was so high we could not have a decent conversation...this was the wrong place for a couple of old folks.

Pretentious and Probably Overrated

By E_traveller28 |

Well, my friend called and made a booking for our party of five with a heavily pregnant women. They never got back to him to let him know that they only take one booking per night and you have to book 3 months in advance. The owner/ hostess was rude and pretentious I felt like I was in NY City at an upmarket restaurant, I was quickly reminded I was in Seattle with all the cyclist riding by. We were told the wait was 2-3 hours, at that point we didn't care how good the pizza was the service was a big turn off.....overrated at its best probably.

oh, the pizza!

By ScenicWorld |

with a line out the door minutes after opening, we knew this would be a seriously good place. we gave our names to the hostess and then walked ten steps to essex, owned by the same peeps, to have a drink and an app. super fun atmosphere! even the bathroom was adorable. we ate a white pizza with mushrooms and toasted kale and OMG it was the BEST combo. dessert was a warm chocolate chip cookie with a cold glass of milk, are you kidding? i was in heaven. :D

Perfect Char | Kind Service

By Tonyalynne |

Delancey's offers a genuinely beautiful & traditional Margherita pizza. The balance of flavors was absolutely delish--on point and one of the best I've experienced in the Seattle area. The crust offered a blend of char in all the right places with a subtle softness beneath the bed of tomato sauce, olive oil, and fresh mozzarella. Basil leaves were casually sprinkled on top and if desired, freshly grated parmesan too -- just ask for it on the side. The service was deeply kind too. Masked, thorough, and honest. A fantastic balance of giving you space, warmth and humor in their interactions, and doing all they can to both expedite your service while leaving a lasting impression. My Italian heart was grateful. Thank you, Delancey, I'll be back.

Lived up its reputation as a great place for pizza!

By Crcb |

Six of went and ordered three pizzas. They were so good that we immediately ordered three more! We also had the salad, wine, and a couple of the desserts. All of the food was gourmet, and puts ordinary pizza restaurants to shame. The hard-working staff was friendly and professional, and the ambiance was modern and fun. We drove a half hour from our hotel to find it and drove around some more looking for parking, but it was dedinitely worth it.

Upscale neighborhood pizza

By Steve F |

We've wanted to try this out for so long and found ourselves in the area at 4:00 on a Sunday, so waited for a half hour to opening. Although we were second in the door, the place was filled within minutes, including two large groups that must have had reservations. A number of infants in the groups made for an uncomfortable volume level. The high ceiling and concrete slab tabletops probably don't help with sound damping. Aside from the acoustic distraction, we really liked this place. Service was prompt and friendly. They have a number of local beers on tap that are far from mainstream as well as an assortment of intriguing craft cocktails and an extensive wine list. We shared a half size salad and a pizza which was plenty for two. The pizza was really good, with a slightly burnt edge crust that was still chewy towards the middle of the pie. The homemade sausage was excellent, as was the perfectly seasoned red sauce. Prices tend towards the higher side, but this is an upscale dining experience for pizza. So glad we finally made it here.

Yummy!

By Claudetteth |

Well, it you are looking for a good pizzeria with great table service , come to this restaurant. They serve a great variety of pizzas, including white sauce pizzas and vegetarian pizzas and salads and veggies. We shared a large salad and an order of roasted brussel sprouts and then each ordered a different pizza. We had enough pizza to take home left overs. My son, who lives here, likes this restaurant so much that he doesnt want me to write a positive review. This way you will not discover this wonderful place!

One of my favorite places in Seattle

By NKaykas |

I am from Seattle, but have lived on the east coast for four years. Due to work I make it to Seattle every 4-6 weeks and no Trip is complete until I have a meal at Delancey! I am so predictable that co-workers tease me about it. Go to items are the White Pie and the sausage pizza and the Jersey salad with whatever IPA they have on tap. They don’t take reservations so there is likely a wait unless you come at opening time, but it is worth the time it takes to get a table.

Fantastic Pizza, and I'm a New Yorker!

By Mariemarblehead |

I would not normally mention being a New Yorker in a review, but we are talking about pizza and this is a subject close to my heart. Outside of NYC, I never expect pizza to be any good, just something to hold you over until you can get back to the real thing. All that said, the pizza at Delancey stands among the best in New York. Its delicious. The crust is perfection. Its clearly made by pizza whisperers, and you should rush to eat here. And if you are interested in things other than pizza, their salads are great. And they can make a mean cocktail.

Best Pizza in Seattle

By LavenderSeattle |

We dined at Delancey for the first time the other night. This was after attending a book* signing event by Molly Wizenberg, co-owner. We put in our name for a table and went to Essex, also their establishment, which adjoins Delancey. Here we enjoyed great cocktails and homemade pretzels. We ordered salad with the best homemade dressing. Then the crimini mushroom pizza came, and it was a delectable thin crust, scrumptious delight. We finished off with a sea salt chocolate chip cookie. We are looking forward to inviting others to join us next time. *The Delancey book is a must-read as it journals the couple's journey as they established the restaurant. And it includes some of their recipes!!

Three items, no complaints

By Kinda Invisible |

This place is always packed so grab a drink at their bar next door, close out your tab, and walk through the back hallway when your table is ready (they'll call your cell phone). We had a mushroom pizza, a cheese, and added the pound cake for dessert. Yes to all! The service is good and overall we had a positive experience (except for the really drunk and loud lady at the table next to us which was too close to ignore).

Very good pizza is outdone by....

By DSTSS |

The Chocolate chip cookies....excellent...and the peanut butter cookies and banana's are excellent...but this is a pizza place, and you are probably more interested in the pizza...yep, it's very good as well..

Pretentious, overhyped, burnt pizza!

By BallardGirlForever |

I can't even begin to discuss how poor the customer service is at this restaurant, most of the staff are aloof and totally pretentious. I have been there a couple times over the last several years, we only live a couple blocks away, and I have never had a good experience there. My spouse and I have a "3 strikes" rule and these guys are now OUT. Recently, we went on a Sunday night and were told there was a 30 minute wait and to go to the Essex next door (owned by he same folks) and they would call us when tables were open. There were 3 open tables at this time, so I asked about them and was told they would be filled by the people ahead of us. I said we would just wait inside since we don't care for the Essex and "host" said we couldn't wait inside since they didn't have enough room...What? There were little metal stools by the front door, I'm assuming that is what they are there for. So already annoyed we left and took a walk and came back 15 minutes later, looked inside, and those 3 tables were still empty. We then waited outside for another 20 minutes while the tables remained empty, so I went back inside asking to be seated. The host then begrudging sat us at one of the tables that had been open for at least the last half hour. Finally we get our pizzas and they are burnt, not just wood-fire singed, but burnt. Needeless to say we will never be back.

Would be 5 stars if not for the wait

By Jeanne H |

Great pizza, salad and cookies. Reasonable prices. Featured wines are good/fun to try and reasonably priced. If you are over 21 you can go next door to their partner business Essex, a craft cocktail place. Or across the street at a tavern/bar and get a Sangria. Otherwise, you have to sit in your car for a cell phone call and the Holy Grail of a table. Unless you have 5 other friends and you call and get a reservation for 6. Even the tip of going right at the 5pm opening doesn't guarantee you get in immediately. Seasonal appetizers and desserts are unique and worth trying. If you are OK perching on a stool at the bar/pizza oven you may be able to squeeze in.

Great pizza!

By Kturn336 |

We got the Jersey salad and the white pizza. The salad was overall good but pricey. The cheese was very fine but tasty. The lettuce was romaine. The white pizza was phenomenal. It was made with homemade ricotta and you could tell. It is the best white pizza I have ever had. This pizza is definitely one of those foods you will miss when you travel back home. The staff was nice too. The place isn't big so I recommend reservations if you're on a time limit.

Best chocolate chip cookies in the universe!

By kmc1971 |

I have read both of Molly Wizenberg's books and love her recipes, so I was anxious to try Delancey. We went to their bar next door, Essex, while waiting for a table. The drinks are pricey but delicious, and we had some homemade pretzels as an appetizers that were really good - crispy and chewy and soft all at the same time. Essex is cozy, and has a really nice chic but friendly vibe. Delancey is a lot louder (high ceilings, concrete floors), but the service was prompt and friendly. We had a salad to start - very fresh. The sausage pizza was good, but I agree with some of the other reviewers that the crust was a tad too burnt. I know it is supposed to taste like it was cooked in the fire (which it is), but the burnt parts gave the whole pizza a slightly bitter taste, and I was a bit disappointed. I had read about the chocolate chip cookies so we got two to go for dessert. They are amazing in every way!!!!! Buttery and chocolaty and delicious. Not to be missed.

Very good pizza and good service

By CateBSeattle_WA |

The pizzas are good and served at a fair price, but many other things on the menu seem way overpriced, especially the desserts. If you go early the place is full of children and can be quite loud. Of course kids are great, but this is a small restaurant and is usually pretty packed with little ones close to opening time. Two pizzas is good for four people with room for dessert. The rhubarb and biscuit dessert I had was one of the best desserts I've had in a long time, and the pizza was good but nothing special.

Delicious wood fired pizza

By MKristof |

The pizza here is amazing! The portions are generous and very reasonably priced. A pizza and a large salad was more than enough food for my hubby and I for dinner, and for $35 including tip -- it's hard to go out for a nice dinner for that price. One tip: plan to wait. We arrived just after five (they open at 5) and managed to snag the last two seats at the kitchen bar, or else we would have been looking at a 45-60 minute wait. They are a "walk-in only" restaurant (unless you are a group of >6 people in which case you can make a reservation), but you can leave your name and number at the door and they will call you when your table is ready so be sure to plan ahead or arrive right when they open.

Killer Pizza!!!

By skichels |

The pizza here was to die for and the atmosphere was nice and calm. The place was full of families and couples but not too loud. The service was perfect not too overbearing but quick and informative! The pizza was chewy, salty a litte crispy with some nice spice and perfect flavor with not too much cheese and the sauce was there but not dripping off the pizza. I would eat here all the time if I lived in Balard! The only thing I didn't love were the bare, white walls, which just made the place not too visually pleasing.

Among the Best Pizzas in Seattle

By John_in_GH |

Yesterday my wife and I had dinner at Delancey. It is something that we had wanted to do ever since reading Molly Wizenberg’s book about the restaurant. We got there about 5:30 on Sunday evening. We were told the wait would be 40 to 45 minutes. We waited in the bar area for about 40 minutes before being seated. It appears to be a very popular neighborhood restaurant. Parking is very limited. The menu features a somewhat limited number of pizzas but lots of options for adding additional ingredients. We opted for mushroom pizza. It was quite good. I particularly like the thin, crispy chewy crust. One 12-inch pizza is just about right for two people. There is a great emphasis on sourcing ingredients from local and sustainable producers, except when it comes to wine. The wine list is fairly extensive but contains only one or two Oregon wines and none from Washington. This seems strange for a place that emphasizes local sourcing. I asked our waitress about that and was told that the wine buyer thinks French and Italian wines go better with pizza. We didn’t recognize any of the wines on the list (except the ones from Oregon) and having had some wine before arriving at the restaurant decided to stick with water. We certainly enjoyed dinner at Delancey but there are many good pizza restaurants in the Puget Sound area and most of them are closer to where we live. If, however, we found ourselves in the neighborhood we would definitely go back again. We would probably ask what their corkage fee is first.

Arrive early...

By Laura L |

The sausage pizza (homemade sausage) hit the spot. The Delancey Negroni was so good that I ordered a second. Delancey easily ranks in my top three favorite Seattle pizzerias.
