Great food and Dunkel beer

By Tim N |

The schnitzel was great... Tender, juicy, and delicious. The Jaeger gravy was not the greatest, but still very good. The Warsteiner Dunkel was great. Destiny was a fabulous waitress, who not only provided phenomenal service, but also gave us some local data...

Best Ever!

By Boymom10 |

We were super exhausted and hungry. A guest at the hotel recommended this restaurant and we weren’t disappointed. We had the Jager schnitzel and potato pancakes. Absolutely amazing. The service was excellent. Great place for kids too!

Great for America.

If you are looking for a large restaurant similar to the Biergartens in Bavaria then this one of the best in Atlanta. Even though prices are high you get a Biergarten, German beer on tap, 1 litre glasses of beer and even the Bavarian favorite Schweinehaxe. Will you get great food here? Yes. Should you compare it to Germany? No. Validated parking is across the street in the enormous 7 story parking deck. It’s a good idea to call and make reservations. Also good to remember is this place is crazy when Germany place in a FIFA tournament or if any of the German soccer clubs are playing. If you want to watch the game here it’s a great place to be.

Blah food. Cool to drink at though.

By HoustonMedic |

Do not come here for the food. They get two stars for the ambiance, drinks were good, but I wouldn’t be lying if I said that the food was far less than satisfying. I had the goulache (sp??) and while the taste was just okay, the meat had quite a horrific texture. Their selection of mustards was good, a bit impressive saying that I don’t like mustard to begin with. So come for drinks, enjoy, but be full before you get here.

Very unhappy

By Debbie |

We knew this restaurant was only open Wed. - Sun. and did not open until 4pm. We arrived at 4pm on a Wednesday and stood around at the locked gate along with several other people waiting to get in. Waitresses were cleaning outdoor tables well within speaking distance to us but they said nothing. A gentleman wearing lederhosen walked pas all of us several times hauling kegs, etc. but did not speak to us. Finally someone who was waiting called the restaurant (it was 4:20 by now) to see when they would open. They were told they had a private party and would not be opening to the public at all! A sign on the gate, a note on the website would have been nice, or one of the several workers could have told us! I guess regular patrons don't matter.

Good German Food

By Ronniemull |

Great Drinks, beer and food very patient and accommodating with little children. We ate inside because it was air-conditioned. We all enjoyed ourselves. We had the braised beef, bratwurst sandwich, and Wienerschnitzel, as well as the Bavarian pretzel. Everything was great!

Out of everything good but didn’t tell us until after we sat down and ordered drinks

By SeikuTenshi |

After we sat down the waiter gave us a menu and we ordered drinks. She then came back and asked what we wanted to order. After we pointed out what we wanted she said “oh we’re out of the entire right side of the menu” which if you haven’t been here before is all the actual entrees worth coming here for. They should disclose that before seating us as we felt trapped to stay since we’d already ordered drinks. Absolutely awful experience, especially for a business dinner, will never visit again.

Great service

By Sabrina G |

I stopped in after a long business conference because of the relaxed look of the place. The service was top notch. I also asked for an extra plate & fork for my leftovers to take back to the hotel. They went above and beyond for me. It was much appreciated after an exhausting day!

Beer and Pretzels before Hawks

By Femorian |

Stopped in for a few beers and to watch the Braves game on TV before we went to a Hawks game. Good food with great service and a really cool spot to sit outside. Only .5miles from State Farm Arena.

Hidden German Gem

By MacKenzie M |

My coworkers and I ran across this place when walking downtown and decided to give it a try. They have a very large and varied selection of beers, and the food is authentic and tasty. The decor and atmosphere are warm and inviting like a traditional German pub. Our server was a little slow but because we were prepared to be there for a little while, we didn't mind too much.

Great atmosphere, good beer

By jleich |

Fun place, the rooftop bar is the best thing about it. Service was very good by all. I would go back.

If you like to pay $15-$20 a beer this is your place

By John S |

The food was average at best, and the beer prices quite outrageous. If you don't mind overspending for your beer then this is your place!

Best Beef Rolanden I have had since Munich

By Dan K |

Off rainy night, pretty empty, good service. I ordered the beef rolanden, a favorite to see if it was good because I will be back next week staying nearby. It was excellent. I will definitely visit again next week.

Fabulous

By Karl K |

Omg couldn’t get better. Busy night, short staffed and food and service was great. Choice of beer was small but a top smorgasbord of Germany’s best, including one that I have not found on tap outside of Germany. Authentic food in taste and presentation. Very reminiscent of times spent in Germany hopping brewhouses. This place made me wish I lived in Atlanta

We arrived in Atlanta late

By Bradspj |

We arrived in Atlanta late on a Friday night and still wanted to eat a good meal and have a drink. We were seated very quickly into the bar area with a great view overlooking the street. Service was phenomenal and the food was amazing Reminded us of Oktoberfest in Germany. Great place to eat and unwind after a flight walking distance from the great hotel Hyatt Place At,AMTA Centennial Park.

Go for drinks not food

By tapeterlee2015 |

The food was underwhelming. The Vienna schnitzel was not fully cooked. The “breading” was flavorful. The side of cold potatoes was pretty good too. Looks like a nice place for a beer but I wouldn’t go back for the food...

Excellent beer and food

By Horacio Navas |

We visited twice while in Atlanta. Near the aquarium, it has a large variety of beers and good food for a reasonable price.

Great food, Excellent Service

By cpwebb |

Three of us ate here and everything was VERY good, will definitely come back when in the area! Jimmy was a great server and had a great personality!

"Ausgezeichnet"!

By Sjc83 |

I was touring alone and looking for a place to eat in Atlanta near the Aquarium on the Friday night before the Peach Bowl. It was, needless to say, a crowded area. Having lived in Germany for several years when I was younger, I was completely thrilled to happenstance upon "Der Biergarten" and even better, get a seat right away at the back bar (sometimes it pays to be single!). I enjoyed a wonderful german style trout dinner and some awesome beer. The staff was busy, but helpful and the atmosphere was welcoming. I plan on coming back to enjoy the dining room on my next visit to Atlanta! Prost!

Great Place to Visit,

By Robert S |

I will have to agree with some of the other reviewers; the beer prices are extremely high. The cheapest german beers starts at about $7 for a 0.5 liter and goes all the way to $17 for a full liter of Spaten Optimator. But you are in downtown Atlanta, so paying x2 for beer is not unexpected, where a can of coke is $3. In any case, they have a very good selection of German beers. However, i believe, their food is where they shine. My wife had the trout and i had the Rinderrouladen. My wife said the trout was good and the potato pancake was very good. My Rinderrouladen was one of the best prepared dishes i have had. the pork was very well cooked (almost roasted to the point of being BBQ). the mashed potatoes were home made (still had pieces of skin). The red cabbage was good. Overall a very solid meal at $21. In summary, i highly recommend this establishment with the caveat that you are in downtown Atlanta so everything is going to be 50% more.

Fun atmosphere

By Johnnica B |

We really enjoyed our visit to this restaurant. We gulped our drinks and shared an amazing charcuterie board. The pretzel alone was a good reason to go! We didn’t love our entrees but it was our first experience with German food, so unsure of how well it compares with authentic German fare. Great atmosphere and the kids loved the train!

Nice Atmosphere

By Elizabeth F |

When I found out this place was close to our hotel I knew we had to stop by! They are located on the second floor and have a large outdoor patio. They have 2 sections on the inside, one that's a bit more formal and one that connects off of the patio. They have nice murals and fun games like shuffle board! Our bartender was nice and the price of their beer was great, especially for the quantity! If you dare, buy the das boot! It's huge! We liked this place so much we came back after our trip to the aquarium. Worth a stop in if you have time or are in the area.

Highlight of our Night

By JessLynn84 |

My friend and I decided to try this restaurant our first night in Atlanta because it was in walking distance to our hotel, open late, and she had never had German food before. It turned out to be a GREAT choose! Food was excellent and while things were a little slow that evening crowd wise we still greatly enjoyed the atmosphere. They had a good selection of beer on tap (listed light to dark) and the food was excellent. We opted to order 2 dishes and split them and also split a dessert. Everything was amazing and my friend even went so far as to rank the meal among the best she's ever had. Definitely worth a try, and I will be recommending to anyone I know visiting Atlanta.

Awful

By Karolina S |

Normally me and my fiance never let an any reviews...but this was gross..meat totally raw and cold..stuff doesn't care about our table at all..the best was beer..never again :(

Glad we found this spot!

By KerryLP |

Not expensive. Good service. Great German beer options. Food was good. Simple German food..nothing fancy. Loved to rooftop outdoor seating

Fabulous, rich flavors!

By Jess R |

Before I begin, I would like to note that my family and I lived in Germany for a while. That being said, is the food a perfect replica of traditional food? No. But it is extremely similar and full of flavor and comforting spices you would find in Germany. The goulash is thick with a kick of heat. The kraut is fabulous and the beer selection is out of this world. There is something for everyone. Our kids loved it too. There is a train that goes around the ceiling when the kids push the button. Perfect entertainment so the adults can enjoy their food and drinks. This is my second time here and I still love it. Special note, for Veterans Day weekend they offer 50% off for military/veterans!

Truly delicious

By Florida32174 |

The recipes are truly amazing and delicious! The restaurant is German but the food cooked here was very Czech! I haven’t enjoyed authentic meal in very long time! I will definitely come again!

Yummy & reasonable

By Pamela L |

So nice! They actually let us have tastes of beer before we ordered! Finally settled on Spaten Marzen, a sort of medium colour and taste. Went very well with our Wiener Schnitzel and German potato salad (no mayo -- light vinegar with pieces of real bacon!) We shared a great dessert: Apfelstrudel mit vanillee (strudel with ice cream -- YUM!). We thought, from other reviews, it would be more expensive, but $65 seemed quite reasonable for what we had. Highly recommended.

Terrible!

By PamBri49 |

My son and I came into Atl for the night. Decided to try this German restaurant since we both like German food. Beer was good, sons Wienerschnitzel and potatoe salad was way overpriced at $26! He said it was just ok and the potato salad was to sour. I had the bratwurst plate, which consisted of two tiny brats, sauerkraut and pot salad. It was nothing to rave about. Our waitress never came back to ask how everything was and she took forever to bring our check. She only had two tables! Needless to say, $57.00 for lunch was a rip off!!!

Great ambience, very good food

By Roberto Ruiz |

It was our first visit to a German restaurant and the experience was very nice. The attention is excellent, the place is very picturesque and the quality of the meals is very good. The "riesenbretzel" and the "reuben rolls" are very good as appetizers. Definitely a place to visit again

Great location for large groups

By Tonya S |

The restaurant was able to accommodate a large number of conference attendees -- way more than expected. The service was good given the large number. Big thanks to TL, Chyna, Bree, Lex, and Derek for making our meet and greet a good one!

good casual German restaurant with nice patio

By AlbertCav |

Nice hearty German food and beer about 1 block from the Aquarium. On the second floor at the address with a nice patio/beer garden. Food good and reasonably priced. Note if you use google and try to make a reservation it is not accurate - we were at a hotel were we can see the open tables from our window, but Resy said there were no reservations open.

So much beer. Walk up the ateps

By scott t |

Not only to chose from but to drink. Find the specials at 10$ a liter. If not having food god at least with the giant warm pretzel pretzel which is huge. Rest of the menu is looking good. Waitstaff is knowledgeable and if not sure what you like they will help you and offer a sample. Every table has three mustards on the table for dipping. Each very good. Within walking distance from aquarium. Good to try after looking at all the fish.

Authentic German Food

By Wendy A |

I loved eating here. Having lived in Germany, I can say that the place is very authentic and the food was good.

It is a superb location for German Cusine. . . .

By Robert R |

Some of the best German food I have ever had and I lived in Austria for awhile in the 1970s. You too will enjoy it.

Best beer around!

By Cincmac |

The vegetarian/vegan selections are very limited. I do wish there was more. They have a wide variety of beer and the staff is very knowledgeable about recommending good ones for you. The food is wonderful. My family always enjoys going there.

Great experience

By Samuel H |

We had our Great Dane with us. The staff was just incredible. They brought her water and treats. Very attentive to our animal. Prices were reasonable to high. Food was great and beer even better. I strongly recommend this establishment! Beer is what runs up the cost but worth it.

Loved it!

By Rebelsmom |

This place had such a cool atmosphere! The food was delicious and authentic. The service was amazing! Very honest, friendly, hard working individuals working there. Loved our experience!

Good food and drinks

By Rachel K |

I visited Der Biergarten for a corporate event. It was nice. I'm not much of a beer drinker but they had a good wine selection. They also had a variety of food options which was nice. The outdoor deck was cute and enjoyable to hang out on.

Great German beer

By 10ringtraveler |

Just got into Atlanta and our hotel this afternoon. I just checked for attractions and saw this place. It peaked our interest and we took the short walk and had a great afternoon. I only had a couple of beers and did not try any of the dinners. An appetizer menu is available and we both had a pretzel. There is a very large selection of German beers, I got the smaller size and tried two different kinds. I enjoyed both! This place had the biggest choice of German beers that I have found outside of las vegas haufbrau house and is well worth the stop. The decor was very nice and the staff top notch!

Authentic Ambiance

By Steven D |

A fun place to spend time with new friends & colleagues after a long day doing work stuff. This location is very close to the larger attractions that Atlanta is known for — Centennial Olympic Park, Coke, Aquarium, CNN etc. Nestled in a renovated warehouse row that once housed Adidas Sportswear HQ during the Summer Olympics. The concept is a dead on twin of famous German Beer Houses. If authentic German and Bavarian Beer is your thing — you won’t be disappointed. Main entrees are as expected. Good — but the food is secondary here — festive fun is first. Don’t leave without trying the German Sweet Chocolate Cake!

Great German cuisine

By bhlraven1916 |

Germany in the heart of Atlanta. Great time at this amazing restaurant. Food tasted like authentic German cuisine. The soft pretzel was the best. The Jägerschnitzel was perfect with Sauerkraut. Bratwurst and Sauerkraut was good. Gulasch suppe was great. Great beer too. I will go back.

Seems to be changing into all beerhall instead of beer hall outside and nice German restaurant inside.

By Donald S |

Research says noisy restaurants sell more liquor. Perhaps that is the reason behind the apparent push to make it all beerhall now. The nice, typical German restaurant that used to live inside is mostly gone. Nice tables with tablecloths and chairs are being replaced by large picnic tables a la Oktoberfest. The food quality seems to be going down as well, so now it's almost all about the beer with food being there to just support the boozing. I miss the lovely old restaurant, but money talks....

Hit the Spot

By Utes1914 |

Really enjoyed the food. Went there with a 7 and 4 year old and they enjoyed their meals. The staff were super friendly and helpful as well. Would recommend and go again.

Yeah, Beer!

By Steve M |

Sweet little German flavored beer garten with excellent pub food, great atmosphere. Fairly frugal stop too !!

NOT EVEN REAL GERMAN MUSTARD (SENF)

By Tony H |

If you're looking for a taste of German food go elsewhere. There's nothing here that comes close to real Deutsche cooking. The service was fine. The atmosphere was also fine. It's sad that it's all show and no go for the food.

Big Beers

By Darren Mc |

Good food, beer served by the litre. Food all German based is great if you like such things. Downside German euro-pop played constantly 😕

Great service and food

By Ben B |

Excellent German setting. Climb the stairs and enjoy real German food and beer. Full menu and they were even roasting a pig out on the porch. (Sunday evening NFL game). Walking distance to everthing in the O-Village area. Ten minutes from MB field and the Falcons (Dirty Bird) home.

THINK TWICE BEFORE DINING AT DER BIERGARTEN IN ATLANTA 300 MARIETTA ST.

By Louis H |

Do not patronize this restaurant, The only place you can park in that area is in a municipal parking lot nearby. We parked our car and dined in the restaurant. After we paid our bill of $142.00, we went to get our parking ticket validated we were told they don't validate the tickets any longer and we have to pay for parking. We went to get the car in the parking facility, and we were charged $40.00. There was no signage in the parking location or in the restaurant. I called the restaurant and spoke to a female manager and asked her why there wasn't any sign posted advising customers that parking tickets will no longer be validated. I told her that we just dined there, paid $142,00 plus tip and had to pay $40.00 to park. She rudely replied, "ok we'll take that into consideration". The isn't any other place to park. So, I suggest you find another place to dine, unless you don't mind paying a hefty parking cost.

Oktoberfest any time of year!

By KASGirl |

Great atmosphere and lots of beers and on tap. Get there early if you are in town when a convention at the Georgia World Congress Center to avoid a lengthy wait.

Great bier, marginal food

By andrewhaucke |

If you don't know what German food is, then the food isn't that bad.....the atmosphere was fantastic and the family had a lot of fun, even the small kids. Bier was fantastic and cold, although it did take a while to get second rounds. I nearly fell out of my chair at one point....not from the amount of bier I drank....but because our waitress said "gracias" to me at one point. I gave her a hard time about it, it was funny! But c'mon....as a server in a German restaurant, you have to know basic words like "danke"!

Npt german food

By Jimmi Petersen |

From the menu to the waiter to the choice of no hot the what is this only positive thing was the beer. The food was so bad cooked and cold not close to german food and the prices was the higest in south us we have see for a long time

Fun German Theme Bar - Great Beer Selection

By Mark B |

I went here on the day before the Super Bowl in Atlanta. An expected long line just to get to the people who tell you there is going to be about a 30 minute wait. Not to worry, just make your way to one of several bars inside and they will happily and quickly get you a German beer in a big stein. It did take about 30 minutes to get a table but with the beer in hand, the time goes by pretty quickly. Kudos to the seating hostess too. The table they took us to was actually right in front of the speaker of the band that was playing. I think she picked up on the expressions on our faces when we got to the table because she quickly told us that she had another table at the other end of the restaurant that we might like a little better and one that you had at least some chance of talking with person next to. This is a fun, loud active bar. And on the day before that Super Bowl, incredibly crowded and busy. But the servers did a great. We just ate some pretzels with our beer. They were perfect. What says German more than Hefeweizen beer and a pretzel? Great fun.

Das Biergarten

By Travelsw/me |

Great place to get drinks and eat delicious German food. Great atmosphere. We have been a couple of times but the last time being during Octoberfest. When we went they were offering a free beer glass with purchase every Friday and one day of the month they have a whole pig roast which smells delicious. It’s one of my husbands faves. Conveniently located to GA aquarium, world of Coke, etc.

Beer, beer and more beer!

By Orchid974 |

We have been to this restaurant plenty of times. It is very close to the Atlanta Hawks stadium, the CNN Center and the Mercedes Stadium. It is real German beer and food. We had an appetizer- the Rueben rolls with a tomato and cucumber salad. For dinner we tried 2 sausages that came with German potato salad and saurkraut. I do not like either but I tried the potato salad- it wasn't bad because there was not any mayo on it like American style potato salad. I liked one sausage that was a bratwerst and did not like the other. The other was more like bologna that had gone bad- if bologna can go bad. I should have had a pretzel but everyone was eating them! We also had the pleasure of being there for their tapping of the wernsteiner keg. Everyone who wanted to try it was allowed a half of pint. It was very good. I like the darker German beer that had caramel and toffee. So good! I tried the one with clove and banana but it was not for me. Luckily you can try all the beer you want. German beer is a food within itself ..it will fill you up no doubt. Tara, our waitress was very knowledgeable and a very attentive server.

Salty food!

By brandasa |

We stopped for some beer - it was good. We got the pretzel which actually wasn't salty at all and didn't have much flavor. We got the Spätzle and sauerkraut and both were extremely salty. I would not recommend this place.

Amazing food and German beers!

By IM1289 |

Really good and authentic German food. The Gurkensalat was my favorite! All kinds of traditional German dishes paired with a wide variety of awesome beers. The music was amazing! German pop and rap. Not that usual Humba Band stuff. Great server and bartender as well!

Thumbs up from a three year German dweller

By Road_Warrior32034 |

My wife lived in Germany for three years before we were married and has eaten a lot of authentic German dishes while living there. She was excited to have the opportunity to try out this restaurant. The restaurant/bar was tastefully decorated for the Thanksgiving/Christmas season, with lights and garland. Being the first diners of the night, we were greeted and seated promptly. Our friendly and personable server, Osman, took our drink orders and provided us with time to examine our menus. On his return with our drinks, he delighted us with his artful description of the dishes of interest and his own favorites. The sweet tea, White Russian and Apfelstrudel MIT Vanille drinks were throughly enjoyed. The food was brought out in a very timely and efficient manner. My wife enjoyed her Goulash Suppe while my daughter and I enjoyed our Jagerschnitzel and Two Wurst Platter, respectively. Our traveling trio enjoyed sharing a Crispin Honey Crisp to finish up our German epicurean adventure. Our enjoyment of the food was only enhanced by the attentiveness and helpfulness of Osman, our skillful server. The prices were reasonable, which delighted this frugal (some say “cheap”) traveler. This restaurant is likely to be our go-to restaurant when we have our next hankerin’ for German cuisine while visiting our daughter.

Delicious food and beer

By ehonkamp |

This was a great place for a couple of beers and dinner with business partners. There were also many families eating. I had a large Spaten Marzen (Octoberfest) beer and the wurstplatten platter with bratwurst and knackwurst which were all delicious. Other items we enjoyed were the kasespatzle, rueben rolls, and giant warm pretzel. I will definitely go back to Der Biergarten when in Atlanta again.

Authentic, fun restaurant

By Kathy T |

We had a great meal here...the rinderouladen was excellent and tender, the weiner schnitzel was good, the beer was great and the atmosphere was loads of fun! With plenty of tvs throughout, we were also able to watch an abundance of college football on opening weekend!

Nice dinner

By MauricioBabilonia |

Two of us had dinner at this German restaurant in Atlanta. The service was great. They have an elevator to avoid the stairs and the two hostesses were very helpful with a friend that needed assistance. The food was delicious. We enjoyed it.

An insane amount of German food awesomeness

By Tampauro |

We have never taken the family to a German restaurant before because we always guessed that the kids would not like it. We are planning a trip to Germany, so we thought better introduce the family to the food. This place was spot on. We ordered the huge King Ludwig platter of everything. I really don't remember what it was really called. The whole family loved it. We ate so much we almost exploded! We had a great server who helped with the large German beer selection. We were told we couldn't make reservations because there was an Atlanta United game and they sometimes bring in a big crowd for that, but we got seated right away. Having only been this one time, this place moves to one of my all-time favorites in Atlanta.

Great Giant Pretzel

By Gene K |

Stopped here in late afternoon for a light dinner. I ordered the giant pretzel and a beer. The petzel was fresh and tasty, accompanied by three different mustards. I ate at an outside table. Service was friendly and efficient.

Good food

By wilma w |

We enjoyed this restaurant so much, we went twice. It was located near centennial park, so it was an easy walk. Great food (rinderrouladen and wurstplatten) and good beer. Apple strudel was excellent, too.

Great!

By Lee B |

David was excellent. There was a huge cheerleading group in town that destroyed all the local dining, but after a 30 minute wait while enjoying their delicious German beer, my family was sat. Service suffered a little bit because of the volume of glitter clad high schoolers, but everything was awesome! The pretzel, jeagershnitzel, and pork shank were delicious! I ordered apple sauce for my 2 year old and it came out hot with a pillow soft sausage. Everything. No lying, EVERYTHING is obviously house made and absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. Great atmosphere, service, beer, and the food is top notch.

How do you say delicious in German!

By hvisitor2018 |

We decided to walk here after going to the aquarium and the Coke museum. It was worth the walk. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent! We tried about 5 different appetizers and entrees in our group and all had a taste of everything. It was all wonderful! After we were done, it was an easy walk up to the MARTA near the football stadium to go back to our hotel. We are used to taking public transportation in large cities but we were confused by the fact that our lanes were all closed. We finally found a worker who explained that the northbound and southbound trains were both using the same track since there were not a lot of riders. We were shocked by how uncrowded the city of Atlanta is (not the highway however).

Biergarten!

By wasmith59 |

This place is a great biergarten. We met friends here for lunch, because we were all attending a downtown wedding that night. Many seating selections inside and outside. Lots of good German beer, and good German meal options. Would return.

Good German Food

By Vetsby’s |

First time coming to this restaurant in Atlanta. The food was good. The gulasch suppe was very flavorful and the jagerschnitzel brought back great memories of Germany. The pretzel was fantastic. Excellent beer list, and the server was very knowledgeable on the beers. The atmosphere was really good. But, the service was incredibly slow. They did not seem to have an adequate amount of servers. Will try again, but plan for more time.

Horrible Customer Service

By ATLTRVLGUY |

We went after an Atlanta United game and were among the first to be seated. After placing our order and waiting for close to an hour, only our appetizer was delivered. We never got our beers. When we asked, the response was: "It is the bar. What do you want me to do?" A simple apology or better worded response would have been much more appreciated. The waiter and hostess were both needing training in how to handle customers. I have eaten here in the past. Service was never great, but this is a new low. It not worth the cost of the drinks and food to put up with such horrible customer service. We went to a different brewery and had a great meal with much better prices. I usually am pretty understanding when there is a service issue. However, this total lack of professionalism really took the cake.

Great food!

By shootingstar09 |

The outdoor area is fantastic! The food was great too. Stafg was very friendly. Would recommend this to anyone wanting good German in Atlanta.

Great beer, nice area, and good people watching

By Suzieqcat |

We sat on the balcony on a cool, breezy evening and sampled some of their excellent beer selection. You won't find the usual domestic brands here, as they only have German beers. The food was to die for if you like authentic German fare. Delicious, and the elevated seating area allows for fun people watching on the street below.

Awesomely awesome!!

By BillyandJulie G |

TL and Teresa were the most awesome people to ever understand a customers needs and satisfy them. We are repeat customers and love the fact that the remember and understand the personal needs of the customers. Thank you for being the best German beer Garten there is in Atlanta. Bon appétit!

Wunderbar

By Douglas C |

Last week, while staying at the Embassy Suites, My wife and I took the two minute walk to Der Biergarten. That was a great decision. Der Bier Garten is decorated and painted like it's on a side street in Heidelberg. The restaurant is huge with two distinct areas. The first is a traditional area with a train overhead near the ceiling. I have to tell you the train is therapy for all of us with a little ADHD, or if you bring your kids you'll find them enjoying the view of the train or playing at one of the provided Foosball Tables. It's almost like a museum that you can touch and see things without being naughty. Frankly, it's Duetschland and everything that keeps you coming back. The second area has a Friday's feel and opens onto a deck weather permitting, which doubles in size. There is even a TV outside playing ESPN. The food is Wunderbar! With that in mind, the most important appetizer in any German restaurant is the pretzel. DB imports them by the container from Germany. They then cook them fresh and I have to testify they're the best I have had in the United States. The Meat Platter Appetizer is just like brunch in Frankfurt. It is filled with fresh sliced meats, pickles, crackers, cheeses spreads, etc.... But the star of the show in the King Ludwig Platter. We ordered one, and it was absolutely amazing. It is every German food you could possibly want on one platter--and all cooked to perfection! It easily fed 8 people at our table with leftovers to take home. It's a feast fit for a King/Queen and their court. But, available to all of us. The restaurant is spotless and the service legendary. The food is first class and is rated in the top ten nationally. I can only dream we would have authentic German food in Greenville. No suck luck. So we drive to Atlanta and find a euphoric la la land of deliciousness. This place sits a top the restaurant ratings. It's five circles...really more like an extended scale of 8-circles. DB, Danke schön for bringing this old soldier and his best girl home to Deutschland; if only for a meal. Friends-get here eat and know what real German food and experience is.

The Real Deal

By Roy David J |

You would think you were in Munich. A genuine German style beer garden with an amazing selection of german and european beers. The food is outstanding and the portions are very generous. Add to this great service in a wonderful setting. Thoroughly recommended.

Had schnitzel and Bad mistake. Potato salad very acidic. Spatzle tasted like flour and overloaded with cheese. The appetizer of cured meats looked interesting but didn't order.

Worth a visit

By stephenpash |

Friendly service and good pub German food. Good choice and healthy portions. I’m a fan of German food but there is enough choice to enjoy

Great Atmosphere, Good Food

By Kelly F |

Love the atmosphere here. We got a table on the outside patio deck and had a blast. We had a large party too so they can accommodate a crowd. Food was decent — roast chicken was pretty nice. Beers were great and large.

Gutes Essen, Bier und Service

By SRXer |

Really enjoyed everything. Appreciated the beer tastes so we could choose the best Liter of beer. Platter of food was great. Our server was very helpful. Conveniently located near several pints of interest

Typical German

By HopeG117 |

You will find all of the stereotypical German fare. No surprises there, food menu good selection, I only tasted one dish, Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad which is my favorite, and I was not disappointed! Wine list is comprehensive and my companion said Beer was good. Normally I will eat much more but I was on may way to the airport.

As good as you can expect for German food in the southern US!

By shaina09 |

The restaurant is so fun and beautifully decorated--you really feel immersed in an Oktoberfest scene. The outdoor seating area is great as its on the second floor so you have a bit of a view. The service was great. Most of the food was very enjoyable as well. The brats and pretzel were AMAZING. I loved the sauerkraut as well. The knackwurst wasn't my favorite--tasted like a giant hotdog. And the kasespatzle (basically mac n cheese) was very bland, which was disappointing. I added some of their mustard to it and it definitely made it more flavorful. And don't forget the beer! Half liters, liters, and boots are available (if you buy the souvenir boot you get half liter pricing on all refills). Every beer we tried was a homerun. Overall, I really enjoyed this place and will absolutely be back.

Great place for a bier

By JuanLeBon |

Very friendly staff and a nice outdoor patio. Stopped and had a 500 ml stein. It was a quick stop but very nice.

Wunderbar!

By mimibobo23 |

We were very happy to find this little German pub on our way to the Aquarium. We got to sit on the second floor deck outside. We had a mixed sausage platter, which was delicious, and the apfel streusel was to die for. Hot day, cold German beer, 'nuff said.

Great German food at very reasonable prices

By Morgan2010 |

Three friends shared a appetizer-sized wurst platter, potato pancakes and spatzle. The wurst was delicious and plentiful for the price. Pancakes were good, not great - but served with nice warm applesauce. Spatzle had a very nice cheese component. Great place to sit at the bar and watch games.

Great little spot

By Ontsarah |

Stumbled upon this place and what a pleasure. Service was great, food was good and beer refreshing. I had the pretzel - it's huge! So fresh and yummy. My hubby had some sort of sausage appetizer and also enjoyed it. Beer was good too! Thanks :)

Good beer and good food

By dirtydan831 |

Great experience! German beer garden theme. Menus are in German and English. So many choices for beer. The food was German and fantastic. The seating on the patio on the inside was community (picnic table). It was really loud. Don't go with a quiet intimate date in mind. Great place to eat drink and talk loudly. Go! You will have fun.

Great German Cuisine!

By D. Brian Mann |

We came to this restaurant before the Queen concert last August, and I wrote an extensive review with lots of details. After telling a friend that was planning to go that I had written it, he reported that he couldn't find it. It must have never posted, but since it IS such a good restaurant, I will try again. We started off with some beers from the higher gravity end of the menu, recommended by our server. They were excellent, and went very well with the giant pretzel with 3 mustards. We were almost stuffed after that and the beers, but since we really like our little German restaurant up in the Dahlonega area where we live, we really wanted to compare. So at the suggestion of our server, we ordered the wienerschnitzel plate for the both of us, and he had it served to us us on two plates. It was excellent. I've forgotten some of the details now, but I remember that it was a great meal and a great way to start our concern night. We will go back the next time we see something at the arena.

Disappointed

By Dextet C |

Wanted to taste real German food. They were out of the potato pancakes, and only had one braut available instead of three flavors. Not much of German atmosphere either. Very disappointed in this restaurant.

Awesome

By ygem0606 |

Authentic German food and beer. Food portions are large and delicious. I grew up in Germany and I was not disappointed.

Taste of Germany!

By KBazz |

While Americanized this was a great flashback to my time in Germany. The pretzel, latkes, and rinderroulden were all tasty. We sat outside on a beautiful day and the location was amazing. I thought the price for the rinderroulden was more expensive than it should have been for the size.

Fun place!

By coloradomommy |

I was here for a work event. Come for the beer and nice upstairs patio. The food is nothing spectacular and not the best German food I’ve had. But if your looking for decent food, good beer, and a fun atmosphere, this is your place.

Food and beer great -- if you are walking there

By seebeeGA |

Still about the best place in Atlanta for traditional German/Bavarian food and atmosphere. Service can be spotty (especially post-COVID), but it's generally not a detractor to our wanting to eat here because everything else is so good -- EXCEPT parking. For those not walking from a hotel or such, the parking situation is now expensive for locals wanting to drive into downtown for an evening out. Parking used to be validated but no longer is, so we unexpectedly paid $18 to park for a couple of hours for dinner, an add of about 25% to the cost of eating here. Pretty hard to justify that so we'll be finding other options, and I hope this doesn't entirely kill their business from local residents. Perhaps visitors from the hotels and sports venues in the neighborhood are keeping them full otherwise. . . .

Good food

By Karen9283 |

Food was great. Had wiener schnitzel and bratwurst/knatwurst with sauerkraut and noodles. Tasted some different beers. All were good. Great service and friendly staff

German...Yah Vote...I Vote YES

By Rob P |

No joke this is a place that offers great German food. I had the Viener Schnitzel and it was great. Son had the Wurst place. All good and a variety of beers to choose from.

Very good food, average service

By Joe |

We had a wonderful meal. The knockwurst was great and so was the brat. The spaetzel was on point and very delicious. Our service was average at best. A lot of times our glasses were empty and our server didn't notice until we had to say something. Overall a good spot.

Friday dinner

By JEANNETTE R |

Made an early Friday night reservation on the 13. December. Went to Atlanta for the Christmas Market. We usually travel to Germany/Austria for these. Had the pretzel (was outstanding) & ordered a dark beer (warmer than in Germany when served) & both of us had the goulash. That was a disappointment. It tasted more like a chili with chunks of meat and it was incredibly spicy. Granted the menu said spicy, but this was HOT! Prices were also slightly high, but portions were hearty. Would not return

Lovely food

By jimsuer2 |

We really enjoyed our food and beer in the restaurant, wasn’t too crowded. There was a nice choice of German beers the waiter was happy to recommend according to taste

Fun Place

By Eaglepack |

We stopped in for a quick beer and ended up staying here for three hours. The beer is great and huge. The staff was friendly. We had a meat platter that was ok, but the pretzels were really good. They did a keg tapping while we were there which meant free beer. Great place

Just ok, beware - I felt taken advantage of

By bhendee |

I grew up in Germany - love German food. My wife and I each ordered a beer and the waiter brought out the most expensive size (1 liter/quart) for each of us. Not the size we wanted and when I commented on it the waiter made light of it without offering to change it. After dinner we also ordered a side of spatzle and were given a full size dinner, not a side, and charged accordingly. The entire dinner ended up costing $97.00, a very poor value. The service was slow to start with, I had to go up and ask even though it wasn't busy and the wait staff were congregating at he host desk. Once I did they were attentive. The giant pretzel was good. The rinderrouladen was mediocre, too much salt in the gravy and hardly any filling. The goulash was pretty good. Spatzle was Swiss style and good. I give it a generous 3 stars because it wasn't terrible, I just felt ripped off (it should have cost a good 25.00 less) and was disappointed in the rinderrouladen. Again, if you go here, be very careful when you order!

Worth a stop by for a beer!

By Coachdoc |

Right around the corner from the CNN center, we were walking to the car and decided the traffic could wait. Had a litre of German beer and a real pretzel. I am sure the food was good also, but we couldn't linger any longer.

The food and bier were great! The service was even better!!

By Eric S |

The food and bier were great! The service was even better!! First time I'd been able to enjoy a Bitburger Pils on tap in a very long time! All I asked for was to have it in a Bitburger glass, and it came in a beautidully branded 1 liter stein! Nice. Even the German potato salad was as authentic as expected. We walked over from the nearby Atlanta Aquarium which had extremely long lines waiting to eat at their cafe. It was a very wise decision and the bar tender saw us and immediately helped us find an elevator for 2 baby strollers and one senior...

A nice change from the typical chain restaurants

By King_Lux |

As a German restaurant, of course they have a good selection of German beers and a decent pretzel. However unlike other German restaurants, they have have a nice outdoor patio for when the weather is nice. Granted the view is not particularly great, but they have TV's and it's nice to be outside in the evenings. Also, their food is generally pretty good. I think the goulash is excellent and the sauerbraten is tender and enjoyable. If you're around Centennial Olympic Park (i.e. CNN, Aquarium, World of Coke, etc.) and looking for a nice change from the chain restaurants, try this place.

Great Pub near Georgia Aquarium and Mercedes Benz Stadium

By Bman3832 |

This probably has tons of reveries, a but my wife and I enjoyed the beer, pretzel and meatballs. Only wish I was here when the weather was warmer to really appreciate the awesome deck and atmosphere. Just let ok for murals for an amazing experience and amazing German festivities!!!

Loved it

By sportsinfoguy |

Cool atmosphere and great beer. We had a staff that cared about us and really took the time explain the beers so that we could make the correct selection. They knew we had a bad time at the bbq place and took good care of us. Can't wait to get back to Atlanta to stop again.

Worst German food ever

By debbiemills1952 |

Our server was very, very good but we HATED the food. My husband had Jagerschnizel which seemed to be from the freezer. The potato pancakes couldn’t have been worse and we love potato pancakes. I ordered the Bratwurst and can’t complain as I got my sausages mixed up but I did not like them. The potato salad made my stomach turn. All in all we spent a lot of money for a terrible meal. We have had great meals in Germanynand in other cities in the USA but this barely rated a one star. The beer was amazing.

Great German food

By Paulellwood |

A good choice for German food served in a beer garden style of inside restaurant. All the dishes we had were pretty good and could easily be found in Germany itself. Quaily of the food and beer was very good.

Needs Help!

By M8818XUterryp |

Stopped in for a meal and some good beer, Hostess was less than pleasant because we didn't have a reservation but yet they had plenty of open tables, Server tried his best to do his job, hard to do when several beers on their menu was out, food came out cold and was by far the worst " German" cooking we have ever had! I don't like to leave bad reviews but for the quality, taste and price... there is some help needed @ this place to put it up with other " German" Restaurants

Awesome German Food in Atlanta!

By Ceberhart |

Wow! True German food and atmosphere, Bethany has taken good care of us. We have to come back since our time was limited but we look around and everyone is so happy with their food and service! Will be back!!😀

Great atmosphere

By soccerdog |

Went for an early evening beer and appetizer. Nice selection of German beer, had a pretzel that was better than expected. Service was great, prices good.

Wunderbar!

By Buck919 |

This place is legit, the beer, the food, the picnic tables in the beer garden and the German pop music. The beer list has an excellent selection of Germany beers. I brought my daughter to visit Georgia Tech and she spotted this on TripAdvisor. She knew I’d love it, and I did.

I'll be back.

By billhollowsky |

We were warmly greeted and quickly seated at the bar. A great selection of German beers on draft and plenty of bottles to chose from. We tried a couple of the appetizers as we had dinner early. Bar tender was funny and attentive. I'll be back.

Excellent schnitzel and spaetzle, great price, nice open air bar. Nice beer selection. Everything you want in a casual restaurant.

German beer and food

By Tom Z |

When here with a group of business associates. Good food but it is all traditional German style. Same with the beer. Back room was great for our group with several picnic tables. Beer is served in either half liter or full liter sizes. Fun place.

Amazing German Food!

By Christine L |

We were in town for the weekend and ended up eating dinner here both nights. We sat at the bar and had the BEST bartender. The food was so good and the beer was ice cold. Will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

Great trip

By Patrick H |

Food was wonderful! We can recommend meat and cheese tray, jagerschnitzel, potato salad, red garbage, and chicken. The beer selection is awesome if you like German beers. We will go back. Props to our server Debbie who took good care of us.

Fun German Theme

By Robsbean |

We went here on a whim because it looked neat and we found it thematically charming. If you like themed restaurants, check this place out! My husband and I both liked what we ordered. The only weird thing is you may be seated within strangers at long tables with benches. I get it--it's part of the theme, but if you were hoping for an intimate German meal, make sure you ask your hostest to be seated separately. Otherwise, enjoy the cool German vibe!

Delicious German food!

By KE314631 |

Delicious German food, including the best Spätzle I've had in the U.S. Pretty decent selection of German beers, and they play German-language pop music. Friendly service too!

Really great meal

By RKL3 |

After a long day at Georgia Aquarium we walked the short distance to der Biergarten to meet a friend for dinner. Our server, Destiny was super nice. We started with a pretzel which we shared over our beers. Our entrees were excellent. I’d go back next time in Atlanta.

This Place Brought Back Some Great Memories!

By Robert D |

Our family enjoyed a wonderful time and a delicious meal at this great place. During my lifetime, I've been blessed to live in or visit 35 countries--with Germany my favorite! So dining at Der Biergarten reminded us of some very special times. With Munich on my mind, I had a liter of Paulaner Pilsner. It was fantastic. But, next time, I'll have two 1/2 liters of beer so I can enjoy two different brands. My wife had white wine; my daughter and her friend had a specialty drink (I forgot the name), but they loved it. Then, for starters, we shared a tasty Wurstplatte. For our dinner, I ordered the Schweinhaxe with Kasespatzle. My Schweinhaxe was incredible!! It was right up there with the best I had in Germany. My wife absolutely enjoyed her Jagerschnitzel, and the young ladies ordered more wurst which they raved about. To add to our evening's enjoyment, the wait staff was friendly and very responsive. Simply put, it was a delightful and memorable night out at one of Atlanta's outstanding restaurants. We will most assuredly return!

Comfortable Spot for Large Group with Family

By N B |

Took a group of 11 ranging in age from 2 - 72 and we were able to spread out at a large table and have a good time. Disappointed a bit in that not all beer offerings were available but the food was good German fare and the atmosphere was fun.

Good service, decent beer selection

By furioustraveler |

Not a big German food fan but we had a larger group that was so we joined the event. Wait staff was very good. Not much of a selection of beers beyond German ales. Stuck w/ apps for my family. Giant pretzel is big and was good, the meat and cheese platter was somewhat mixed due to the ham being mostly grizzle. Overall okay.

BETHANY IS THE BEST

By SteFany A |

Food is actually really good. The service was prompt. Beer is really good! Bethany provided such a good choice of beer!! Very friendly ! First time being here but definitely not the last. A must try !!

Great German food

By gideonit |

I travel a lot, including to Germany, and can honestly say this was some of the best Goulash I've had! I just wish I was able to visit more then once to try everything on the menu.

Delicious

By Travelsw/me |

The Bitburger Pilsner is delicious. Their smoked salmon and potato cake appetizer and the pretzel were so good. Over all great experience. Staff was really nice.

Get the pretzel, you won't regret it

By ontheroadagain65 |

We used to live in Germany and loved the food while we were there. Of any of the German restaurants I have tried in America, this has to be the most authentic tasting. The food was wonderful. Especially the pretzel. The server was nice, but service was a tad slow. I'm not sure why, as we weren't there during a busy time. I would have loved to try the apple strudel for dessert, but we were too full from lunch. If I ever find myself back in Atlanta, I'm definitely stopping in der Biergarten for another meal.

Zer Gut!

By Charles V. |

I found it! A real Beer Garden with authentic food and beverage. A great experience! This place was very crowded when we showed up. So my son and I bellied up to the bar and started browsing the beer menu. SOOOO many great options. I am not even going to bother to recommend a beer as there are too many solid options to choose from. So pick one and enjoy! Once that is out the the way, don't you dare leave without having some food. We sampled a few items that they were both outstanding! We first ordered the Wurstplatten Platter (the three Wurst option) and it was fantastic! The sausages were cooked perfectly ... and there were 3 types of mustards to select from on the counter that were all delicious. But here is the real measure of quality. Was the sauerkraut and the German potato salad going to meet the standard? YES!!! Both were amazing! I almost shed a tear (of happiness). Next dish was the Jagerschnitzel. OMG! This was the winner! Very well prepared over a bed of spaetzle. But what made this dish was the sauce. A perfect blend that complemented both the schnitzel and the spaetzle. SOMEONE AT YOUR TABLE MUST ORDER THIS. Looking forward to returning and trying more food (and beer, of course)!

Great place to relax

By CuriousTraveler3 |

A great place to relax enjoy real German beer. The pretzels for phenomenal. Indoor outdoor seating is available

Surprisingly good!

By beth ann k |

Our water was excellent and the food was good. It was nice to sit on the patio also. The waiter helped us decide which beers to order.

Great casual place

By campjaf |

This is a quick couple of blocks walk from Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca Cola, College Football Hall of Fame, Centennial Park, ... What a great place for yummy German food and beer. The potato pancakes and applesauce are the best we've tasted and loved the 3 choices of mustards for our bratwurst and knockwurst. The sauerkraut was good but not the best we've had and the German potato salad was a disappointment. The selection of German beers was great, enjoyed the Spaten Lager was excellent. We didn't have room to try the huge pretzel, other dinners or dessert but will next time we visit downtown Atlanta.

Wunderbar

By _ken4541 |

Totally overwhelmed and beyond expectations. Not sure exactly what I was expecting but went beyond. Value Value Value. The Sauerbraten was excellent and I'm pretty versed in sauerbraten. Don't plan on finishing it though as it is enough for two despite the $16 plate. Add the potato pancakes (appetizer) as part of the entree though and skip the frites. Friend had the jaegerschintzel and it was excellent as well. What a gem this place is. $84 for 3 dinners, a Dunkel and glass of Pinot can;t be beat. Close to everything downtown. Will definitely recommend and return the next time I'm in town.

Really enjoyable

By SteveWI0001 |

I had the Sauerbraten. But, really, the red cabbage was the star of the dish. Started with potato pancakes. Add a pint (or half) of beer, and it's a lot of food. Service was quick and friendly. But it was Sunday night, so the restaurant was not busy.

Third time here. Again! Was

By hilariog967 |

Third time here. Again! Was not disappointed. Great food and delicious food. Beer was awesome as well. I will always make my way here. Never a disappointment! I recommend this place if your ever close to it.

Incredible Dinner!

By Steve B |

Stopped here on a visit from out of town because it was across from our hotel (Hilton Garden Inn). Prompt, good service, good atmosphere, but the food...wow! We were rookies at visiting a German restaurant, but this was one of my favorite meals out in a long time. I got the Jagerschnitzel, which was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. The mushroom and bacon sauce was outstanding, and the bed of spaetzle was just gooey goodness. Added a liter of WEIHENSTEPHAN to make it a perfect meal. My wife got the half rotisserie chicken, which was very juicy and spicier than expected, but excellent. She also got the cucumber salad, which I even enjoyed tasting (which surprised me). This will be a must-stop on any future visits to Atlanta for us!

Great German Beer Selection

By Maverick1904 |

We had a great time at der biergarten. Great variety of German beers to try. Try the giant pretzel for an appetizer. It was huge and the different mustards are all delicious. Dinner was enjoyed by all having different kinds of wursts with sauerkraut. Service was friendly and attentive as well.

Good German food

By dacham99 |

Went to dinner there on our trip to Atlanta. We both like German food. Had the weinersnitzel and jagersnitzel both were good but I’m used to my German potato salad being warm.

Apps and Beer

By Jon P |

Stopped in as I was craving a Dunkel and love this place. Great German atmosphere, decor is fitting and the Rueben Spring Rolls and Bavarian Pretzel were off the chain. Our waitress was outstanding as her service was on point, but she gave us our space at the same time! Bethany is a rock star!

Bland sausage, out of potatoes

By Michael R |

Bland sausage plate and mustard. Out of potato pancakes on a Saturday, also out of potato salad substituting fries. Draft German Beer the real draw vs the food.

VHPA group dinner

By RSpicer |

Eight of us showed up for a reservation at 8 PM looking for a good German meal. We all started off with large liters of beer. A huge selection. For a starter we ordered a pretzel to share. It was large enough for all 8 of us to have a taste. In addition to the various mustards we had their cheese spread which was delicious on the warm pretzel. I ordered the jagerschnitzel with a side order of red cabbage. It was absolutely delicious. Everyone raved about how good the meals were. A couple of us are considering going back again before our reunion is over. Service was great, quick and friendly.

Great German beers and good food but BE AWARE, they won’t validate parking anymore which gets pricey $$$

By Peter |

Great restaurant with fantastic German beers and good food but BE AWARE they don’t validate parking across the street anymore which cost us a whopping $30 extra.

Downtown Atlanta favorite

By troyyz |

Great food, fantastic bier, and amazing atmosphere. Recommend for parties, business gatherings, or just with friends. Authentic cuisine. A must do while in Atlanta.

Not Impressed

By James J |

We were a party of five. I had the Schweinshaxe. I spent eight years in Germany so I was disappointed with the Schweinshaxe because it was very dry and tough. I expected better for $26.00. Only one of the five was pleased with his meal.

Good but had better

By dawgfan35 |

We ate here while at the boat show in Atlanta. The wait staff was stretched thin and this place must be a fairly popular choice during the weekend evenings. We found the staff to be very helpful and did their best to serve. The bartender was tending bar and waiting on customers with food orders at the bar, but she was also serving two other tables outside the bar. She was working herself to death trying to keep up. The food was good but was not the best German food I have had in Georgia. The price was not too steep and the location was close to not only attractions but also good hotel choices. This makes it a good choice while in the area. I would return to this place again if in the area though I would likely consider other options before going back depending on the walk from the hotel. The place we stayed was directly across the street which made it too convenient to pass up fro at least a try.

Overnight stay in Atlanta

By Belalcazar Juan C |

Driving through we chose this restaurant for dinner. We were on the clock so were unable to try any of the alcohol which was a true bummer. The food and service were really good. I had the roast my son the chicken and our large party pretty much order just about everything on the menu. All was good the fresh baked pretzels and dipping sauces were a real hot too... I still wish we could had wash it all with a pint! None the less the place had great ambience and a very friendly staff.

Germany in Atlanta

By Heavenly94 |

This place was amazing! The beers are huge! The speciality drink Bavarian punch was a nice size with great flavors! The Jägerschnitzel was so good! I truly hate mushrooms but I just pushed them aside you couldn’t taste them in the sauce. My husband had the Rinderrouladen & he really enjoyed it also. All entrees are very good sized you get a lot of food! Plus there’s a train that runs along the ceiling thru the restaurant! You must go here if you are in town especially while visiting the Atlanta Christkindle Market!

Me. Alvin Poteat

By Alvin P |

I have been to this restaurant numerous times since living in Atlanta. While serving my country in the U.S. Army I had the pleasure of being stationed in Germany for over 8 years so I’m really familiar with the way German food is supposed to taste and be prepared . On my birthday my wife takes me to get a German which is my favorite food. I have been coming to this restaurant for over 6 years and have seen the quality of the food and staff go from great to subpar. I ordered the german ham hock and it was really small in size for 27 dollars. My waitress acted like she was doing my family of 3 a favor by taking our order. She was sitting in the front of the restaurant talking with 2 other girls and I’m quite sure the conversation was more important then giving good customer service. I refused the small portion, but she never once asked my wife or son if they needed anything else or refill their water glasses. The manager asked if there was anything else that she could do. But after my waitress lack of customer service I chose not to eat and just drank my beer. Not only have you lost me and my family’s business but also any other military personnel or personal in the federal government that asks me or comes to Atlanta looking for a restaurant to eat at.

Non caring staff

By Cleo M |

Have frequented this restaurant over the years as I am German and the food is top notch!! I also love their apple strudel and was so wishing to share it with my family at our New Year’s Day holiday party however I called them today and was told that they absolutely would not sell us an entire strudel and could not be bothered with my request. We have taken their meat and bratwurst platters to parties in the past and have encouraged others to go. Been clients since they opened years ago, feel they just don’t care and am disappointed! They were so great in the past... very sad!!!

A little bit of Bavaria in downtown Atlanta

By Brad C |

We were in town for a quick getaway weekend and chose Der Biergarten over the run-of-the-mill sports bars/brass and fern restaurants around the Georgia Aquarium. We couldn't have made a better choice. Our server David was a delight: genuine, professional, possessed a great understanding of the menu and a willingness to share his insights. Whatever you do, try the potato cakes for an appetizer. They were awesome --- especially with the provided apple sauce, which tasted more like a first rate apple butter. The pretzel was also excellent, as were the meatballs and mashed potatoes appetizer. Our table consisted of mostly former Chicago residents, so most of us opted for various bratwurst entree options. It's hard to beat a Wisconsin brat, but Der Biergarten's were exceptional. Lightly spiced and cooked to perfection. My wife was the one adventurous diner and she opted for fresh trout, which was outstanding. I'd recommend Der Biergarten for anyone looking to try something different. The decor is decidedly old world German, and if we'd had more time, we would have had a couple of drinks at their massive and inviting bar. We also found the value to be very good.

Very nice sports bar with fantastic micro brew selection!!!!

By Karl A |

Was here in the fall for a college football game watching on their many TV'S. Had several appetizers which were outstanding and a super good beer selection. I was with a very large group and those who had actual meals said they loved the food.

Knowledgeable Staff!

By Karly P |

The food was delicious. Our waiter expertly picked out beers for us to try. Note that it is shared seating, which didn’t bother us!

Avoid. Better options all around

By 29Kiwi |

After reading reviews we were excited to try this. What a disappointment. I think it was the worst "German" food I have ever had. Jäger schnitzel was awful....aside from the salt, it was tasteless. Very little gravy or mushrooms. Did not even eat half of it. Potato pancakes not hot so not good either. Beer choices are good so maybe a better bet for a few drinks before going to another restaurant.

Nice Atmosphere but Lacking Customer Service

By MAO |

My husband and I wanted to grab a beer and dinner while in downtown Atlanta. We love traditional Biergartens in Germany so thought we would give this one a try. The atmosphere was definitely Americanized but still a fun Biergarten feel and they had a good selection of German beers. I ordered trout with asparagus and when the waitress brought it out the plate only had trout and she didn’t say anything about the missing asparagus. When I asked she said, “oh yah, we’re out of asparagus”. It really bothered me that I had to ask about it rather than her apologizing before giving me the plate and never once offered to bring a substitution. I happen to be an asparagus lover and ordered this dish for the vegetable not just the fish. This is not a cheap restaurant so staff really should be trained better in how to treat customers and manage the kitchen running out of items.

German Food near the Heart of Downtown

By Burgerwas42 |

I would just say that most everything is average compared to other German restaurants I have visited. If you do not have other German restaurants available to you, then it may be worth a visit. However, it doesn't measure up to my local Geerman restaurant.

Good German Food Downtown Atlanta

By Ck_Nest |

This is a good Biergarten restaurant in downtown Atlanta. We had the six person sampler plate with various German dishes. There was so much food we had leftovers for two days. There is a food selection of beers. I had a hefe-weissen which fit the meal great. The sampler plate was more cost effective than separate dishes for everyone. There isn’t much of a choice for German food in metro Atlanta but I’d recommend this one over the others I tried. Also keep in mind they don’t usually serve lunch.

Fabulous fun, food and way too big beers!

By Sean D |

Had a night out here during a conference... totally impromptu we had 40 people and they handled us like they expected to see us! Staff was super, food was good and it was a really fun time... the food is rich. its not for the dieters that is for sure. The beer is top notch, and that is from an Irish guy who considers himself a bit of a beer snob. the service was really good... like i said we had 40 people and they just kept sending helpers in so that we felt like we were the only ones in the place. I commend the staff and the management... well done folks... when I am back in the ATL I will be back - promise!

Fantastic Food Adventure

We weren't looking for German food, but my kids and I were at hotel a block away. It's upstairs (above the Waffle House) and we're SO glad we took a chance. Ordered a giant pretzel, Jagerschnitel, and beef rolls. I don't know what it was called, but the waiter recommended the dish - braised flank steak rolls with red cabbage. My kids don't eat cabbage, but it was gone! I'm not a beer drinker, but I'm sure that's good too. For a new delicious experience, give Der Biergarten a try!

Second and still the best

Our second time visiting in four years. The food is still just as good and consistent! Love the beer, love the food. Love the staff!

Decent German food

By Maik F |

If you want to get some decent German food go here. It tastes almost as in Germany, so worth a stop. Good potato salad and sausages. Mustard is very tasty

Great decoration, authentic food

Very cozy upstairs restaurant and bar with an extensive Pilsner list like what you would find in Germany. Pretzel was amazing and massive. Pomme frites are double fried just like in Belgium and Germany. Lots of crunch to them. Great place to have a liter of beer and some great German food that definitely reflects those places I’ve been to in Berlin. Staff was friendly and attentive. But I got there as soon as they opened on a Saturday. Check it out if you like the fare. Prost!

YES!!!!! This place is really worth a visit in ATL. Wurst selection is great as is the beer.

I went to dinner there last week with a big group of people that I was attending a convention with. I was pleasantly surprised by every part of the meal. I ordered the three wurst place with 2 bratts and a knackwurst. It came with German potato salad (served hot) with just the right tang. I had the apfel schrudel for desert with some vanilla ice cream and it was to die for. If you like German food, this place is great. Others at my table got the Pork Shank which was bigger than the plate it came on. Not a place for vegans, that's for sure...

Great Staff, Great Food; Superb Family Atmosphere; Good Prices

Der Biergarten is a German Restaurant about 2 blocks from the Georgia Aquarium and one block from the Olympic Park. The restaurant has two rooms; one configured like a sports bar and the other more like a traditional German Biergarten. In the warm season, there is a large patio which can also be used. Food is reasonably priced -- dinner for three with drinks and tip came to just over $50, and all of us were quite full. The staff is friendly, and very attentive. The food was traditional German fare and is the best German food we've found in the southeast 1/4 of the U.S. A fantastic restaurant and an excellent value.

Great meal

Probably not the best choice if you are dining on a budget. (My wife and I spent about $60 for one beer, two appetizers, and one chicken entree.) The food was tasty though, and the atmosphere was fun.

Was really excited about going but...

We haven't had German food in a while, and anytime we had it it was always excellent. We were very excited to come here. They didn't exactly rush to open the door with a bunch of us standing outside - it was 10 minutes after 4 when they did, but we were glad to get in. We enjoyed sitting outside. The pretzel was excellent. The potato pancakes were ok. My food tasted underseasoned. There isn't any salt on the table, and I just didn't really enjoy the Jägerschnitzel. The food is in such large portions you really can share it. Staff was attentive and beer sizes are also generous. Not sure what to say. It just wasn't quite what we expected.

Big beers and big food.

Came in for a beer, walked out with a container of pork knuckle. We felt like a beer so we popped in here - I had a litre of some awesome German beer. We weren't to hungry but the waitress was great and supported us along our food purchasing journey. I went for the Pork Shank and my girlfriend went for cheese and noodles - German style mac and cheese. It was very busy so surprisingly the food came out really quick. My food was massive and could only eat about half hence the great breakfast I'm going to have. This is a great place if you feel like something a bit different in the South.

Oktoberfest

Great German music, food and music at Oktoberfest. They had real german beer and (almost) real german food. Great place to throw a party.

Enjoyable Dinner

We enjoyed our dinner here on a Sunday evening during our visit to Atlanta in May. The weather was pleasant which allowed us to sit outside on the patio. The food was tasty, both the entrees and the desserts. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Would definitely visit again if we return to Atlanta in the future.

Fun atmosphere but loud

Loved the atmosphere of a german beer garden. Wish it was summer so they could have had the garage doors rolled up! German beer selection was great. Food was good. Restaurant is very noisy. Had picnic table with 8 people. I could barely hold a conversation with the people across from me. No way I could have talked to people at end of table. It was fun, but really more for casual drinking, etc.
