Fun, Unique & Good Food!

By Mike S |

My Friday lunch buddy read online about Derby and I'm always game to try someplace new so off we went. In Irving on the north access road to 183. Not much to see from the street but wait until you get inside! I didn't even know places like this existed. Apparently, there are car (and cycle) enthusiasts that have money to buy some amazing vehicles but not Jay Leno like money to have a garage big enough for their "special" vehicles and their daily use vehicles. So, they store their "special' vehicles at a place like this. And they just so happen to have a restaurant here as well. When you walk in, there is downstairs and upstairs dining. I believe the upstairs is for members (that have cars there). So, we were seated downstairs but with a view of part of the garage. They also have a viewing area where you can get a better look at some of the vehicles, but the garage is huge. One of the servers told us that if you come for brunch on the weekend between 11am-2pm, they do tours of the garage. The menu isn't huge but there's variety and it's big enough. And it says they're a scratch kitchen and, based on what we had, I believe it. I had the Reuben and Fries. (Caesar Salad was the other option for the side.) It was large with lots of meat on beautiful rye bread. It was good. Some bites were a little dry so maybe a little more Russian dressing on it would have been good and there wasn't much sauerkraut, but it was tasty. The fries were the best I can remember having in a long time; maybe ever. They were so soft and fluffy on the inside with an incredible golden color and crunch on the outside. My guess is that they were blanched before they were fried but, whatever method was used, it worked! My friend had the Wagyu Derby Burger. It looked excellent and he said it was. It comes on a Brioche Pretzel bun. Juicy and a half pound patty so more than enough! He agreed that the fries were stellar. The staff were all great, the food was good, and the venue was unique and interesting. The prices were quite reasonable as well. I'd me more than willing to go back but would try and do it on a weekend during brunch. I was a closer look at some of those beautiful vehicles!

Wonderful Hamburger

We walked to Derby from our hotel, and we all ate Wagyu Derby Burger and fries. Absolutely wonderful hamburger. The cars in the other room made for a great experience. A must for those who like good food and nice cars. The service was wonderful and the staff very friendly. Five stars.

Can you at least act like you like your job.

The restaurant is pretty cool with all the cars to look at. Now the service rate would be a 1, Zachary just didn't seem like he wanted to be there or wait on a table of six. He really didn't care because he knew he was getting his 20% tip because of the table of six. We ordered appetizers (2) for the table and didn't get any plates. We wanted to enjoy the appetizers while still hot. Asked for platesand didn't receive it until we finished. It's a given that straws are given when drinks are served. Had to ask several times. Wasn't impressed with the snapper either. I think it's safe to just stick with the sandwiches and the wings on the menu. The calamari wasn't good either. I rate it a 3 for food and 1 service. 5 for the drink and the cars on display. It was an experience, and I wouldn't have to visit again.

Derby is the restaurant-The Shop with the cars is separate if your looking to tour!

I feel it's important to start with, I was unaware that they didn't do tours during the week, of the cars in the shop, so went with the excitement of touring and was told it is for members or weekend tours only. We drove about an hour to get here, so was a bit bummed. However, you could see a lot of cars from the restaurant and viewing area they had blocked off, but it just wasn't what I had envisioned. So make sure if your going to eat you are on The Derby website and if you want to take a tour, make sure your on The Shop Club website as they give different detailed info, which I didn't find out until there. Maybe just a plug for Derby to make that a bit clearer for future customers. ;-) All this to say, our meal was wonderful and so was the service. We split the pork tenderloin, with cheddar mashers and avocado pico. Plenty of food to share thanks to the suggestion of our waitress. I even got a side of market vegetables which were good. I loved how all the staff worked together and helped each other. Truly showed to be working as a team unit which is rare. Overall the food didn't disappoint and they did give me a complementary ticket to come back at a later time to tour which is more than kind of them. So please understand this is not a disgruntled review I would highly recommend going, just know before you go if your a newbie like me. :-)

Amazing experience!

What a hidden gem. This place has car and motorcycle galore, not to mention an insanely good restaurant with a great staff, and all the sites to see! Ample parking in their parking lot, outdoor patio, indoor dining, full bar, upscale comfort food, and cool multimillion-dollar views of cars and motorcycles, and more. And, an in-house cigar shop and barber?! What more could you want. Had the best experience and looking forward to many more.

Pleasantly surprised!

After finding only one review on Tripadvisor, although it was excellent, a group of 4 of us were not sure what to expect. We were all pleasantly surprised! The food was excellent. The prices were more than reasonable for the quality of the food. The service was exemplary with friendly and helpful staff. The view from the dining room is an experience like no other in this part of the country. It is more than a meal at Derby Restaurant. It is a true unique experience and worthy of your visit. If you are a car or motorcycle buff, you should also take in the tour of the "garage".

Had lunch here yesterday, could not have been a better place ever. Not only was the food great the service was also great! Friendly staff and just all around happy people. The car museum beside it was also fantastic. Just a fun place in general. I will most definitely be back and I will most definitely bring people here, who come and visit!

Good food and fantastic walk about viewing classic and modern car, and bike collections. The restaurant is nice with windows viewing the cars and bikes.

Good burgers!

We ate here while in Dallas to view the 2024 Eclipse. It was one of the few restaurants within walking distance of the LaQuinta where we stayed. I got the burger, and my wife got the Pork medallions. Great portions! Great service and it was not crowded when we were there. Lots of interesting vintage cars inside the building adjacent to the restaurant.
