Yummy beer & bites!

By southerncaligirl72 |

We come here every time we are in Portland visiting our daughter. Nice area downtown. Usually east to find parking. We typically go during the week which is not as busy. The weekends can get crazy. The menu has lots of different choices to choose from. The pretzel with beer cheese & mustard and beer sampler. Our main dishes were the berry & burrata salad (added salmon) and beer sausage & gnocchi. Both very tasty. Service was good.

Delicious Dungeness Crab Roll

By Lucia H |

We met our friend who had moved from NYC to Portland last year for dinner and she recommended this place. We had the Dungeness Crab Roll, Smoked Pork and Grits and Chicken Schnitzel and the kids had cheeseburgers. The food was all very good, my husband didn't care for the grits but it was down to the type of preparation vs. actual taste. The grits were very rich and creamy but he prefers more breakfast type grits. My crab roll was delicious and fresh. The garlic fries were also very good but could have used less garlic mayo - it was literally slathered on. Next time order the mayo on the side. But all in all, good food, good ambience and good service.

Great Dinner and Beer

By RainSeattleMom |

Walked here for dinner on a Tuesday night, and didn't have to wait too long to be seated. The food was great (I had the garden burger, and my hubbie had shredded pork). The beer was good too, and a great dessert list. Service was fine, but I think the waitress was overwhelmed. Good atmosphere. It is on a nice street, but we walked through some sketchy areas nearby to get here. I enjoyed my time!

Feel ripped off

By D H |

Yesterday at lunch we paid $140 for 4 beers and 7 burgers with fries along with a forced tip. They counted our 3 toddlers as patrons and charged us 20% more as a "large group". Good service and food but the price was outlandish for a beer hall lunch.

Excellent Brewery

By Jenny B |

We visited Deschutes during a quick trip to Portland. The food was fantastic and the beer choices were even better. The servers made excellent recommendations and really allowed us to have a great experience at this brewery. Would definitely return in the future.

Great venue, delicious food and beer!

By VancityGal |

We’re fans of their beers so when we were in town we looked forward to checking out the brewpub. It did not disappoint! After our morning at the Oregon Zoo we had a late lunch - it was delicious - and a few beers to wash it down. The kids enjoyed their meals as well. The atmosphere is fun, warm and inviting; in the great Pearl District. We just spent a week on the Oregon coast. We are coming back so I can pick up a cute sweatshirt before heading home to Vancouver BC

Great dinner

By Bill R |

We stopped in for dinner at the recommendation of the hotel staff where we were staying. Short wait due to seating restrictions but def well worth it. Had a couple drinks waiting on our table. Bar staff was well versed in the selections and offered great drink ideas. The food was even better than we’d heard about and the waiter even offered up some suggestions for other things to do during our visit. Lots of dining options opening back up in the city so make sure you take advantage of this option.

Very good!

By Colleen F |

Thoroughly enjoyed lunch and our server Dustin was very friendly and knowledgeable. The Pomegranate Paloma was delicious! If I would’ve had more time in Portland, I would have returned for dinner.

Disappointed with the food

By Debbie B |

The wings were not at all what expected. They were with full of sauce, the whole wing and not at all crispy. We ordered two orders and were very disappointed. I ordered salmon for my dinner which was very dry and really overcooked. I couldn't eat it. Others had the kaula pork plate and liked it. My husband ordered the fish and chips and was very disappointed as well. It was bread crumb coated instead of battered. There were 9 of us. Some were fine with their meals but most of us were not. Such a bummer! Huge disappointment.

Surprisingly good!

By Mike L |

I'd been in here a few times a couple of years ago but we were in the area to go to Powell's Books and decided to have dinner at Deschutes. I may be mistaken, but their menu has narrowed and moved away from just the usual bar food. In any case, our meals were delicious. I had smoked pulled pork (no sauce) over creamy grits with greeens and my wife had salmon. Both were excellent. We shared a berry cobbler dessert, which was very good (maybe too sweet) and large enough for 3-4 people. Even the wines by the glass were good. We'd go back.

A rip off bar. Do not go here.!

By Mike B |

We just bought a glass of Wine and a glass of Prosecco at Deschutes Brewery at Portland Airport. We did not note that their drinks menu lacked any prices. We were presented with a bill for $30.00 for these two drinks which is an absolute rip off. It seems the lack of prices on the menu is designed to deprive the customer the opportunity to make an informed choice before ordering. Do not buy drinks at this bar unless you are very wealthy or desperate.

GREAT BEERS, DELICIOUS FOOD, FRIENDLY GREAT ATMOSPHERE

By John R |

Last day in Oregon and staying in Portland....weather fairly miserable and raining torrents on and off....nonetheless we decided to do a walking tour of Portland. Midday....torrential rain and took refuge in the Deschutes Brewery in the centre of town not far from the huge book store. What a place ! Luckily found two stools at their long beer bar next to their restaurant, all open plan, looked after by two really friendly knowledgeable young barmen and started with a beer tasting....six different beers in small glasses to give you an idea of their range of beers. These guys are talented brewers....and their conception of enjoying sharing is exceptional , humouristic and smiling all-round. Two small food plates, Manila Clams dish and Rillette of Salmon, both fresh and fabulous with great bread choice. Spent probably 2 delightful hours here , bought one of their super fitting caps as well and wandered back out into the rain feeling good and ready to head for the Rose Gardens and the enchanting 23rd Street ? full of esoteric boutiques and bistros. A delight of a day and back to the super Radisson Airport Hotel. Thanks Deschutes, all Brits who read this .....Take note and enjoy !!!

My favourite brewery

By Karen G |

This is out favourite brewery, delicious beer and good variety. They have a patio and you can bring your pet. The food is really good too (besides the chicken wings that we hated, the full wings were kind of weird and they covered and barbecue sauce before adding some Buffalo sauce, very weird!). But I had a Blueberry and burrata salad and my husband had the steak and they were delicious. Staff is really friendly too.

Same very different day

By weatfood |

Had a good time. The usual selection of beer from Deschutes. Used to go to the bend. Brewhouse until they started charging. Since then we haven't gone. Some of the shoots beers are old and need to be revamped, updated.

Good choice of burgers

By Beth_sage |

We had expected it to be busy at Saturday lunch- but the place is so big. We each had a burger - elk burger, pub burger and quinoa. The quinoa needed some freshness or crunchiness on it. Good selection of beer. It's also not too noisy as some places can get when they are so open. We had been here on our last trip so it was nice to go back and still enjoy the service and the food.

Great Vibe with good food

By Elmtree3610 |

Came in with a party of 7. Busy place. Seated fairly quickly. Courteous staff. Food was great. This who had alcoholic drinks enjoyed them.

Crab Roll

By Lauren Woolstenhulme |

The crab roll is to die for! So fresh and delicious. I could’ve gotten two of the them because they were so good!

Phenomenal

By Andriana V |

The staff was super friendly, beer- excellent (per usual), cocktails- fantastic, and Cheesecake was TO DIE FOR. Chill atmosphere. Great place to grab a quick drink or hang out for a bit.

Beer Was Great. Burger Was Great. But the Loaded Fries...DECADENT!

By Jim H |

Atmosphere is fun and really cool place to have a few beers and some delicious pub grub. Wife loved the loaded fries, and we couldn't stop eating them. Generous portions. We split a burger, and it was plenty.

34 minutes for a beer in a brewpub!!!

By AZ_Margie |

We planned dinner here on our arrival day in Portland. It was 1/2 mile walk from our hotel and was not worth the walk. I asked for a taste of 2 beers because I couldn't decide. They never came! Instead the server brought me 3 of totally different styles because she "forgot" what I wanted. I asked for a lager and a wheat and she brought a sour and 2 other totally unrelated to my request. When our food arrived, I asked where my beer was and she looked perplexed. It was 34 minutes after we had sat down!!! This is a brew pub and beer is the money maker! She did comp one of the beers, but it was not a great way to start our vacation. The food was good, so that saved this review from being terrible. Do not recommend.

Decent...

By stophmaster |

Don’t get me wrong, Deschutes is not bad, but it isn’t great either. The place itself was cool, nice vibe inside, but crowded (Wednesday night) and super loud. Their beer is average, but they don’t have many choices or variety. The food was good, and served hot. Service was average too. My son absolutely loved the Cubano burger though, so if you’re into pork and burgers, check that one out.

Knock another one off the old bucket list

By Jedimasterkush |

Even though this is not in Bend where the actual original brewery is it was definitely worth coming in for lunch. As some of you know Deschutes has been around for a long time now and has built up a great reputation with lots of their different beers. One day I will finally make it to The mother ship. For now the Deschutes Portland public house hit the spot and then some. We started off with the pretzel with beer cheese and mustard. This was good. After that we tried and split the Mac n Cheese with fried chicken and the Cubano burger which was a Cuban sandwich with a burger this came with these fries covered in manchego cheese and green chili these were great! The pasta used in the Mac and cheese is one like I never seen before. For desert we split the marionberry cobbler ... OMG, so good! The inside of the place is done very nice with a bit of swag to buy at the front counter. This is a great place with lots of options. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed here.

Excellent beer with just OK food

By tmccallster |

We went on a Saturday night and it was very noisy and crowded. The staff was efficient but not very friendly and not helpful when ordering. We had a flight with 6 beer samples. The beer flight was excellent. I had a burger which was unremarkable and somewhat dry as were the fries. My husband had chicken and waffles which he said was very inventive but the chicken was dry.

Beer, and food

By rologo |

Afternoon flights, beers, and food. The beer was not my favourite, but was okay. We ordered the charcuterie board ($15). It was the lamest charcuterie board I've ever seen. Server was excellent, the inside was large, and roomy. I would say that the food that was served near us looked great. Ours was not. Will have to try their food again.

Good vibe

By karenmartha |

Friendly, comfortable bar area with good beer and limited but decent wine. The crab roll was awesome!!! Think lobster roll in New England, but done with crab. Lightly dressed and very generous portion!

Pretty Fine Beer

By Jane M |

I am not a big beer drinker but I do enjoy one once in awhile and the beer at this place is great. Had a nice dinner. I had the mac and cheese with bacon and my partner had the sausage special. Servings were too big but that is typical of the US so no surprise. They were happy to give me a box to take it home in (all the way back to Vancouver, BC). Atmosphere is lively but not so noisy that you can't talk so all good.

Great food and Service

By Garfieldluvr |

This place was great! I had a flight of beer and the crab sandwich and my boyfriend had a burger special they had. The beer was great and my crab sandwich was fantastic! They didn't over dress the crab meat with too much mayo and other stuff, it was seasoned perfectly and really complimented the crab meat. Great location, easy to walk around and see the downtown area before or after eating. The one recommendation I could give was to implement text paging so we can walk further while waiting for our table.

Fun place

By ac3anderson |

Great beer, food was ok. There was a long wait so plan accordingly. The atmosphere was loud and fun, not a place for a quiet dinner.

Just ok for me

By AlexisRF |

The service we got from DJ deserves full 5 stars. Coming from Chicago and NY, I find the service in Portland too laid back (bordering lazy) so whenever I come across excellent service, I need to give them a shout out. You can throw this guy anywhere in the US and his service skills will be appreciated. This place is a big hit for regular eaters, I have no doubt about that. For healthy picky eaters like us, it was just ok. We decided to get the quinoa burger and it was just ok. Ive tried many meatless burgers and this one was forgettable. One that that was super good was the root beer which they brew in house. I dont really drink soda due to the refined sugar but DJ gave me a free sample and I was impressed. Im glad I tried this place but not sure if im a return customer. I still would recommend this to most people.

Another year, great food and service

By Johnny-O_1964 |

Brought a couple along with us this year. Great food, service, atmosphere. Will be back again. Pub burger, and the beer cheese Mac and cheese were fabulous.

Dining Suggestions

By Angela M |

Crab roll and Bloody Mary were outstanding. We had a large party and everyone enjoyed the food and brew. Highly recommend!!

Disappointed

By Gida A |

I don’t know how this place is so busy, may be for a burger. I ordered the salmon which was ok but my husband ordered the pasta with shrimps and it was as a beginner was trying to cook for the first time with no flavors at all and no ingredients. We tried one of their ipas too, they were average

Awesome, friendly and comfortable

By Alexander Agostini |

Met with one of my friends, and had a wonderful evening, the food was good, and atmosphere quite nice, and it was definitely a good spot to gather with friends. We went for one of their salmon dishes, and I had a beef burger, which was quite good. Parking spots are available, paid however, if your reach after 7, it's even better, than it's free until next day 0800.

Great beer...and food

By hadaniels71 |

I’m a long time fan of Deschutes beer and a new fan of their food and service at their public house. The public house has a great NW vibe and is always filled with beer loving patrons. The restaurant serves delicious American bar food that pleases even the pickiest eaters.

Top notch brewery

By Anthony H |

Finished my shopping and got ready for lunch, downtown Portland Oregon was busy for a Monday, I got a call from a friend who said to try deschutes while I was so close, from the entrance to seating and ordering the food and drinks, all the staffs were very friendly and helpful and warm, the place was very clean and packed but service was good and no waiting for any help, the food was great,

Lunch was fantastic!

By john b |

Had lunch for 9 of us and were pleasantly surprised with the quickness of seating and service. Salads and burgers were great and beers were awesome. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Sitting outside leaves you stranded

By Teresa B |

This brew house is definitely worth a stop if you’re visiting the Portland area. The vibe is relaxed, the beer list is solid, and the food hits the spot—though I wouldn’t call it the end-all, be-all of Portland dining. We tried their German special with sausage, sauerkraut, and German potato salad, which was hearty and satisfying. The real standout for me, though, were the deviled eggs—a regular menu item and absolutely delicious. If you’re looking for a good pint, friendly atmosphere, and a few bites that go above expectations, this place delivers. The three stars was for service. Evidently, if you sit outside when the weather is superb, you have to do everyone through an online app which was cumbersome. We definitely would have spent more money if we would have had a server to work with.

Great for flight of beer tasting

By hawktraveler8 |

Good food, great beer. The flight was worth it and the glasses were adorable. I had soup and sandwich and a bowl of soup while enjoying my flight of beer. I think the service. could have been a little better but it wasn't awful.

Great Place to Eat

By Motion22 |

Another tourist directed me here when I ask hotel staff for place to eat. Glad he did. It is downtown. Very efficient friendly service and a nice variety of food. Burgers, sandwiches. Salads. Food delicious and doing all the Covid preventions. Saw them really take table cleaning to a new level. Frequent soft drink refills.

Cool place

By Tizzlemrizzle |

This was a cool looking place to have dinner and drinks. Their beer was yummy but my husband had a hard time making a healthy food choice. I ordered wine and a meat/cheese/veggie/fruit platter that was okay. Our server was great, and so was the atmosphere but I’m not sure If we would come back.

Business dinner

By Darrell M |

Great beer selection! Had elk burger, would order again. Garlic fries were also a hit! Great food, great service!

Good beer and food

By Jurgen |

Great beer selection and food. All our meals were excellent. I had the elk burger with the manchego cheese. My wife had the grits and pulled pork. Others had fish and chips and Italian sausage ravioli. Nice atmosphere

Much Anticipated

By jautrey21 |

Some would label me as a beer snob, and I'll not dispute that. As a snob, you most likely have heard of and/or had Deschutes and considered it a top tier brewery. While I didn't get a chance to visit the brewery in Bend, I did visit the Public House in Portland. This place is expansive as it is a bar and a restaurant and though I didn't have any food, it must be good because the wait for the restaurant was out to the street! I did partake of the Black Butte Porter and the Obsidian Stout and totally enjoyed both. The bartenders were responsive and helpful. It's a can't-miss while in Portland.

Great Restaurant to go with great beer

By Marc W |

Couldn’t get to Bend to the actual brewery, but luckily the Portland Public House was a 3 block walk from our hotel. We were also lucky they stayed open later than other nearby places since we got into town late. Of course the beers were great. Although I can get a lot of Deschutes beer varieties in Minnesota, I was able to try a flight of IPA’s and dark beers that I normally wouldn’t be able to get. The food was great too. I had the salmon which was very good. My vegetarian wife got the grilled cheese which she really enjoyed. It had 2 large “halves” and came with tomato bisque soup she really loved. We actually came back the next night for a night cap and split the garlic fry appetizer…we love garlic and the first half of the really big pile was great, but then the garlic built up. We had to stop and share the Obsidian Stout chocolate cake (which I enjoyed with an obsidian stout). The restaurant atmosphere was awesome also. A large brick and heavy timber warehouse space with high ceilings and big windows. Tables had a lot of space between them. Even if our hotel wasn’t so close I think we would have made it back for the 2nd night.

Great food and drinks, great vibe and service

By Erica L |

I wasn't super hopeful for good food here, figuring it'd be like a chain restaurant with little quality control. Boy, was I wrong! We had great cocktails, amazing food, a couple of fun servers, we left feeling great about every aspect of our meal. I would recommend for a great meal when in the Pearl District area of downtown Portland (we had been shopping at Powell's Books and this is about a block away).

It's decent bar food

By Kayanna S |

I've eaten here over a dozen times over the years for various reasons. It's always pretty good, but nothing to get too excited about.

Get the fries!!

By hstew92 |

All kinds of yummy beers. We each had flights, but the garlic fries are where it’s at. Soooo good. Great pit stop on a rainy afternoon!

Great tent!

By L Selten |

Delicious food, good beers and super friendly staff! Normally they don't come outside to take orders, but because we couldn't manage it with the QR code, they came anyway. Great tent!

Veggie Burger

By K H |

We each got a quinoa burger and we were pleased with it. The focaccia it’s served on is really good. The Portland Ketchup really made it. That stuff is amazing. The service was very friendly and attentive. My husband enjoyed his beer. If we lived in the area I’m sure we’d be back in soon.

Average Lunch

By Kelly |

We had an average experience. I enjoyed the crab roll, but the beer was nothing special. The atmosphere was relaxing and the service was excellent! They have great happy hour specials. They are located in the Pearl District.

Good post-play choice

By 2bits2go |

Went across the street from the Armory following a Sunday afternoon play for an early dinner. Very busy, but we were seated in ten minutes. This is a large beer-hall place, but pleasant staff, good beer choices and a decent menu. Prices are so-so for the portions, and the menu is limited, but well-prepared.

A tiny letdown

By Robert |

The food was great and the service was good, but it was an underwhelming experience overall. I do recommend the desserts though

Elk burger was yum!

By Fraser |

I had an elk burger, never seen that before although there aren’t any elk in my home country. It was yum! The atmosphere was lively but it wasn’t so busy that we had to wait for a table, just right. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. No complaints, worth a stop.

Great Brews

By John Carter |

Wow, I had a couple of the best brews I've ever tasted. With it, I had a veggie burger that was OK. We sat at the bar so we could watch the game. The bartender was very nice as were the nearby patrons we chatted with.

Dinner out with my wife. The

By Arturo L |

Dinner out with my wife. The food was good. I recommend the pretzel. The beer was good also. Nice selection of beer and food. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I will be back to visit again.

Such good beer!

By Destination431030 |

We found ourselves in the Pearl District and we were ready for lunch. Big place, lots of tables, friendly staff (knew their stuff!) and good cold beer. Burgers were delish too. Excellent experience.

Great beer and food selection

By Christine E |

The Deschutes beer list was expansive and had something for all beer tastes. Staff had suggestions for which beers and flights were best. The food menu was also high quality with generous portion sizes. I would definitely have come back if I’d had more time in Portland.

Good food, good beer

By netdefender77 |

Good food, good beer but unfortunately you can get that in a ton of places on Portland. Wait staff was very friendly.

Just for the beer

By hawntjam |

Living on the east coast it had been a long time since this west coast transplant had a fresh Mirror Pond. It was heaven as always. I had a couple of appetizers that were flavorful and well made. The mussels are always great. Stop by for a beer enjoy some good pub food.

Still great beer and a nice menu

By 633curtisj |

I visited this restaurant on a Wednesday night thinking it wouldn't be crowded. I had a party of 3 and had to wait 30 minutes for a table. Fortunately, you can order beer while you wait, so that sort of covers the big check mark for choosing this restaurant. I was a little disappointed that the bacon sundae isn't on the desert menu anymore.

They need to work on the kitchen and the menu.

By NovemberAlpha |

They are currently offering a very limited menu and the kitchen was understaffed for a Saturday, night further limiting the menu. I can say I wasn’t impressed from my visit here and a over cooked burger. The beer was at least good.

Great Beer, Good Food

By thistle-do-nicely |

We had a good dinner here. Steak was fine, but the appetizers were ridiculously expensive considering how small the portions were. The beer was excellent.

Get the horchata stout

By Melanie T |

Came in on our last day in Portland, which happened to be on President's Day at around 5:30. It wasn't too crowded, so that is our type of place. We originally were thinking about sharing a flight, but whenever we get flights at breweries, we don't have a lot of luck. They're usually half IPAs (which we don't like) or we just end up liking one of two of the pours. So we decided to just get what we wanted and it was the best decision. I had the Nitro Horchata Stout because stouts are my thing and I really liked it. It was smooth like a Guinness but had a hint of cinnamon. My husband had the Rev Nat’s Valley of the Pear. He liked it. I can see it being really refreshing but I tried it after the stout, so I can't really give it a fair assessment. Overall, it was a nice experience. The decor is very cabin in the woods but in a fun way, not a creepy way. They also have some souvenirs for sale so we ended up buying a couple of mini draft glasses to add to our beer glass collection.

1st trip to Portland

By Barb C |

My husband and I spent 2 days in Bend but did not get a chance to visit the Deshutes Brewery there. So next day after arriving in Portland we walked to the Deschutes Brewery. What a great place! Built in an old warehouse. The food and and beer were awesome!

A+ pub Brewery Restaurant

By Froggy1313 |

Top notch. Their burgers were excellent, salmon chowder was wonderful, and the atmosphere and staff were super friendly.

Deschutes Brewery

By Lorri B |

Beer is great! Food is good, better than your regular brew pub fare. This place is big & a little loud. Great place for families, celebrations or to catch a game and a pint. In the Pearl district.

Good food; great drinks and beer

By Kathy D |

We spent the afternoon here eating and drinking. Great environmental vibe. Ladies behind the bar were knowledgeable and friendly. Would definitely come back.

Average

By northernstar30 |

This was a busy restaurant but despite this, service was very efficient and friendly. I ordered the elk burger which was a little bland. My spouse ordered a steak which came with about 5lbs of fries (ok, slight exaggeration but there were far too many fries!). I don’t drink beer so can’t comment on the beer.

Freshness Twist on Bar Food

By LJSpock |

High windows and ceilings created great light on a typical grey Portland day. The server was engaging and helping us understand that everything is prepared in-house. The wood with carvings creates a wonderful ambiance. We debated -- was it the server, the light, the food, or the wood that most made the experience? Check out this Pub and decide for yourself. We cast a vote for all 4.

Great venue

By jenshaetty |

I visited Deschutes twice while on business in Portland. A very welcoming original place with high ceilings, good food, and a great Porter. Try the burgers!

Huge Mega brewery restaurant

By lost_bobcat |

This place is cool, but not quaint. High ceilings with industrial vibe with wood. Very big place. Lunch time crowd was pretty significant on a Saturday. Beers were good, sampler is a great way to start. Wings were good, not the best, could have been crispier. Pub Burger was good/border line great, turkey sandwich was again really good, but not the best ever had. Pricey, but given its location, it will be. Fun place to add to a pub crawl which would be fun in this area.

Love this place.

By Alan Calhoun |

Great beer and surprisingly outstanding menu. Pick your own beer flight and sample what you want. 👍🏽 Can’t remember the the last time I could order chorizos with my IPA.

Broke my own rule and went back twice.

By Susan M. B |

I try not to visit the same place more than once in a new city - but I really liked this place that I went for happy hour on my first day and lunch on my second day. The service BOTH days was amazing! The beer (tried different brews both times) was great. I highly recommend the pretzel with beer cheese / mustard - simply the best. Had the green goodness salad the next day with avocado - also good. This place was great.

Try the Pale Ales!

By Fernando Ponce Leon |

A great pub in the middle of Pearl District! Lots of taps, great attending, big menu with lots of options and an enviroment that tipically you find in this kind of places. For a pub crawler, I tottaly recommend it!

Decent grub, slow service

By phvi2617 |

This place has a great outdoorsy atmosphere, with cool wood carvings and big windows. The beer was good, and I had their poblano chicken sandwich, which was alright, but a little dry. It would have all made a fine dinner, except service was incredibly slow. It didn't seem busy at all, but I waited more than 15 minutes after being seated to have my order taken and then had a similar wait to get my check.

Top Portland Brewery

By CplusJ3 |

Having never been to Portland we had to check this place out as we had heard the reviews were very good. My husband loves IPAs and so tried a flight sampler that included all IPAs. Margarita’s were great too. Our meals were yummy including the steak Frites and the clam chowder. Oh, we had an ooey gooey dessert that was totally delightful. Fun vibe for a bar restaurant. Highly recommend.

Great lunch

By Chelle B |

Enjoyed a tasty lunch with my grandson there. Great kids menu and the portions on it are incredibly. Giant burger, lots of fries, refillable soda. Can't go wrong.

Great staff, great beer and good food too!

By jaselamson |

We stopped in for a local craft beer and had a little bite to eat. Very friendly staff with great service. Many choices in the brewery that you are unable to get anywhere else.

Great food and beer selection

By Djlittl73 |

Stopped at 2 on a Saturday and were told we'd have a 40 minute wait for a table of 2 but it was really about 20 minutes. Tried one of their flights and didn't get a bad beer. Ordered pints and burgers and enjoyed ourselves. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the area and beers as well as the history of Portland brewing and went so far as to direct us to our next stop (and he was right).Had a great time and bought a t-shirt to prove it!

Great job

By Christopher C |

Ian crushed it, excellent service. Beer was on point, sun was out. Get it. Recommend and will be back for sure. Pretzel was baller too.

Good Beer and Food with good service

By SeattleKarl |

This Portland Pearl District Brewery has a great selection of good beers, currently 26 on tap! Some of their beers are always available, but they also have seasonal and experimental beers that change regularly. They also have a good selection of food choices on their menu. We had the Elk Burger and grilled cheese with roasted red pepper bisque. Both meals were very good. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. Like virtually every establishment we visited during our 10-day Oregon vacation, they enforced the Oregon State mask policy. I accidentally got up without my mask, to look at a T-shirt display, and was very nicely reminded that when not at my table, I needed to wear my mask. Sorry… Thank you to Deschutes Public House for looking out for the safety of their customers!

Great craft brew house.

By Pank |

Visited here a couple of times whilst on holidays, we sat in the bar area and met some really friendly people, the beer flights were good and the food was also really good. Would defiantly go back.

Easy place for a solo beer; nice variety of brews

By brmusicman |

Visited here solo on a beautiful Portland afternoon. Lots of outdoor seating, which I appreciated. I was welcomed by a server, who was attentive throughout my experience. As you’d expect, a nice variety of beers on offer. I like that Deschutes can satisfy a wide range of palettes, from those who want something super hop-forward to something that’s dark and moody. I ordered a couple of half pints of amber and brown ales. Both were delicious, the perfect accompaniment to some postcard-writing. Didn’t try the food. Would definitely return. Easy, casual, good way to sample some Oregon beers.

Just average.

By Tanzy123 |

Nothing really special about the restaurant. The food and drink were average. The service was excellent. They followed Covid guidelines with cleaning- observed staff member disinfecting tables after they were cleared.

Nice pub

By Emma C |

We enjoyed great mains, desserts, and drinks. Nice atmosphere and the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable as well. Highly recommend!

Deschutes horses don’t they

Came here for the Abyss dark beer…rated 99 on Beer Advocate, which basically means it’s good enough for god. YOWZA YOWZA YOWZA!!! They weren’t lyin’ It’s THAT good. And the had a COCONUT ABYSS too. Also tried the Black Butte Porter and Obsidian Stout, amongst others. Good as it gets. Jason…who suggested some beers for us to try, is a super chill dude and a fellow Grateful Dead aficionado who enlightened our path on the golden road to unlimited devotion Thanks again, brother. Huge room and terrific brews. This should be your first stop for beer in a city that no shortage of options.

So good we came twice in one day

By Winky H |

Not kidding. We had their fabulous burgers for lunch (elk and yellow belly, cooked to perfection dripping with fat and taste and spice) and then seven hours later were hungry again, looking for something lighter. We window shopped many of the other great spots in the Pearl but started thinking about the great salads we had seen but skipped for lunch. So back we came. Beet and burrata salad(amazing)... the BLT salad (fresh cornbread croutons)...and on a whim, the smoked chicken wings. And who knew the small portion of carrot salad that came with the wings was what we could not stop talking about? Fresh, interesting, tons of flavor, bit of spice. We were just trying to create what the recipe would be when we looked up and the sous chef was visiting at the table next door. Long story short, Peruvian spice is a secret ingredient and we went home with a tiny to go container of it. Without asking. Now that is customer service! The setting is beautiful, the location excellent, the rose wine very palatable (I dont drink beer but certainly it's the main focus with flights and all manner of chouces) and the food worth two trips in one day! Check it out. Oh, and the aprons of the serving staff are a riot.

Busy so it must be great!

By Mary B |

We only stopped for a drink, but it was busy as heck so the food must be good, right? We sat at the bar. Our bartender was very nice and our drinks were great.

One of Oregon's Legendary Microbreweries with an Excellent Outpost in the Pearl District of Portland

By Sr. Adviser |

Deschutes is one of the top microbreweries in Oregon and indeed on the West Coast. Their innovative beers are delicious and can be found at many restaurants and bars outside of Oregon. Deschutes of course is based in Bend on the other side of the Cascades, but the brewpub in the Pearl District near Downtown Portland brings the Deschutes brewery experience to the city. I visited on a Friday evening and it was extremely crowded, but the bar is huge and had available seating. From my perch at the bar, they were serving essentially all of the Deschutes line-up of ales and lagers. The Fresh Squeezed IPA is their signature brew and it was absolutely delicious. I paired it with a comfort food pasta dish served in a light non-tomato-based sauce with beef brisket. The value of the brewpub is helped by the absence of any sales tax in Oregon. Deschutes Brewery in Portland exceeded my expectations and perhaps inspired me to visit their full scale brewery in Bend on my next visit to the region.

Grab a seat

By Apanda8 |

My husband and I stopped in for a drink. The place was super crowded but we managed to score two seats at the bar. Bellys up! I had a local cider and my husband had a beer. Overall, the drinks were great and the atmosphere was inviting. We didn't eat here but some of the food looked quite delicious.

Great Beer

By Clark845 |

Tired of corporate sameness? Drop by Deschutes for some real beer. Any beer that can't be seen thru is a good one and the Black Butte Porter fits the bill. The Mirror Pond Pale Ale is also a very tasty number. The food here is also very good. I had an elk burger that was a nice alternative to normal pub fare. Great brew pub in a central location. Highly recommended.

Just another brewpub

By CBvan |

There is absolutely nothing special about this place. Just another large space brewpub of many in the city. Simple menu that isn’t unique.

An excellent microbrewery in downtown Portland

By Christopher B |

A great choice for downtown dining, with an extensive beer menu (we had flights) and interesting food offerings. We visited twice and hit the airport location before departure.

Great atmosphere, food much better than expected.

By Kevin Campbell |

Large, airy venue split into several areas for bar, retail, and dining. Tables well spaced in the dining "room" so we felt we had plenty of privacy, even though business was brisk. Servers were attentive and took our drinks & food order quickly. Beers arrived quickly (and were excellent). Two of us ordered salads, and were impressed at the freshness of ingredients and the care taken with preparation and presentation - you wouldn't necessarily expect a "brewery pub diner" to serve such a high quality salad, but they were great. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, would visit again in a heartbeat.

Delicious

By Aimee A |

Highly recommend. The food and beer were soooo good. Atmosphere was excellent, service was great. I would definitely recommend going, and I would definitely go back. Bonus it’s only a block from Powell’s City of Books, so two birds one stone.

Fantastic food and service

By Jen R |

Great place in downtown Portland. We really enjoyed the loud busy atmosphere, service was good, and food was so good. We had the Mac and cheese and a pub burger. Their pretzel was the best I’ve ever had. With the mustard cheese dip, oh my so good! Great place for good food and beers in Portland!

down from their past level

By sophocles |

we've been here several times, and previously been quite satisfied. the beers on offer are, as always, fine. our lunches were disappointing - the beef burgers, as well as their elk burger (a specialty, and my favorite) were overcooked, and even the french fries were overdone to near-cardboard consistency. granted, it was the week between chirstmas and new years, so the kitchen staff may have been the "B" team, but the house was not full, so there was time to do it right. a nearby competitor closed a few months ago, and it may be that Deschutes is feeling less pressure to perform. our server offered free desserts, which was appreciated, but irrelevant since none of us wanted that in the first place. i hope this was a fluke, but will be cautious the next time around.

Delicious!

By mamamialeah |

Crab salad sandwich was the bomb! Generous portion of delicious crab meat and the french fries were perfectly seasoned and fried!

Sit Outside and Enjoy the Beer!

By Rob V |

Good beer, good food. I had the charcuterie board and my wife had the blueberry walnut salad. Both very good and super quick service. Good stop when In downtown Portland.

Fun, but not extraordinary

By Randall S |

Made a dinner reservation based on a hotel front desk recommendation. The food was fine, the service was quite good and they have an extensive list of beers. Try the nectarine sour.

Good beer & food, lively atmosphere

By Patrick Y |

Stopped by here a couple of times on my recent business trip. The beer was good and they had many options to choose from. The food was also tasty. I recommend the elk burger.

Great food and beer

By Michael L |

Great food and drinks. Tons of selection and all done well. Both beer and cider a hit. A must stop when in Portland!

Deschutes Brewery

By C W |

We popped in for a quick beer and bite after visiting Powell's and were not disappointed! We ordered their basic flight. My favorite was the Porter. We also had an amazing pretzel with cheese sauce and ground mustard that was outstanding. We split a crab roll. I loved the toasted roll and the salad itself was refreshing. Our server was friendly and helpful. A big YES if/when we ever make it back to Portland.

Drop in for a warm beer and burger

By nfowler7 |

The burgers were excellent. The service was okay. The beer (summer ale) was not as cold as it should have been and it wasn’t that good. The decor was -1 star. They have BLM banner when you walk in the door. Do your research management, it is a HATE group that specifically targets Law Enforcement!

Post Brewery tour dinner.

By Rhonda M |

We hit Deschutes after our bikes and Brewery tour. We were hungry and a little light headed by the time we ate. The hamburger was great! I ordered the garlic fries and wished I'd stuck with playing. Not bad, just didn't please my taste buds today. Great atmosphere.

Good recommendations if you are a fan of beer

By kgrunde |

Nice place to go. Food is good and good option to try different beers, especially the tasting trays is great. Happy to come back again

Way cool craft brewery

By John K |

I think this is the largest beer hall i have ever been in. I am a big fan of Deschutes Porter. I was delighted to find when we ordered our whiskey flights they came with the porter as a chaser. The beer is good, the whiskey was actually pretty good too. The food menu is surprisingly anything but bar food. A nice menu with great twists using fresh ingredients in everything. Kitchen was like a craft kitchen with a nice Chef driven feel to it. The atmosphere here is so upbeat and happy it's contagious.

My favorite restaurant in Bend!

By WanderingWayfarer |

I think I could live on their spinach dip and their spicy chicken sandwich. The food is AMAZING! The servers are awesome and you can tell that everyone who works there really loves their job. JD at the bar is one of my favorites! I wish they had the Bogg’s lager year-round as there aren’t many basic lagers on the menu (I only need one boring beer for my boring lager beer palette - Bogg’s is a basic lager but one of the best I’ve EVER had!). Love going on Wednesday nights for trivia. Check out the Pub Club membership for some fun perks.

Great beers and vibe

By Edward_Lawton |

What a great find this brewery bar is owned by a family and the employees !! The bar had a great atmosphere and an even better selection of home brewed beers !! The even had a spiked lemonade and a cider at 7.4% !! Good service and reasonably priced. The food was ok ! Steak was really good but the fries were just ok. Will recommend and visit again

Will go back

By MSH |

Super friendly and cute place to have some drinks and apps. Pretzels were delish as were the brussel sprouts. Waitress was quick!

Great place to grab a beer and snacks downtown!!

By Renee H |

Fun atmosphere in a great location downtown! Loved their extensive selection of beers and snacks - especially their delicious pretzels.

Beer excellent food so so.

By boldgo |

Conveniently located in downtown. Large brewery menu with many choices. Food is basic pub food with IPA pretzel and garlic fries superb. Burger comes cooked only one way and was dry. Beer was excellent.

Great neighborhood bar/restaurant

By mhowell2015 |

I live in Portland and stop here often. Try the crab sandwich!! In nice weather it’s fun to sit outside. It can be crowded at peak times so expect a short wait.

Great place!

By orlytModi_in |

We had the best time! Excellent food and drinks. We shared the rib eye steak with vegetables and potatoes, and chicken wings... great. We loved the beers and cocktails as well. Very good and fast service.

Go have a beer and food!

By dragonflyfrisbee |

Fantastic taproom and restaurant. They had everything from pub appetizers to full meals. Staff were wonderful at the bar great ambiance we had a wonderful time. Also enjoyed the beers only available here always fun to have something that isn’t distributed

Slow and lack of vegetarian options

By starkris9 |

Perhaps it was related to the pandemic slowdown, but the service was painfully slow. Appetizers came out after a long wait and immediately followed by entrees. Not many vegetarian options either.

Surprisingly good food, great service and beer

By SimeyTravels |

We don't usually equate "brewery" with "good food", so we were pleasantly surprised by the quality meals we got at Deschutes. We were so pleased, in fact, that we broke our own travel rules and dined at Deschutes twice during our trip. They have a large space, with a first-come, first-served bar area on one side, and an expansive dining area on the other. They also have outdoor seating, but we were there in the middle of November, so of course that part was closed. Service was great and friendly on both visits. The two waitresses we interacted with were helpful and knowledgeable, and eager to answer our questions about the beers on tap and my initial request to build my own flight. On our first night, I ordered the Grilled Cheese sandwich, and opted for the roasted red pepper bisque that came standard with the meal ($14.50). My husband ordered the Pub Burger ($16.25) and opted for the side salad. With my beer flight creation and the pints my husband ordered, we were off to a good start. Look, I know it's difficult to "mess up" a grilled cheese sandwich, so I wasn't expecting much from the meal. I just wanted something not-too-filling and warm. The grilled cheese version Deschutes serves as a meal is not your regular sandwich. The bread was artisan and felt fancy, in the way it crisped up and in the flavor it provided. But the bisque was the star of the meal. Not only was it warm (remember, that was my number one criteria), it was flavorful and creamy, a little velvety and a tiny bit roasty. I would've gotten just a bowl of that and called it a day. My husband made short work of the burger, which he said was really well put-together and tasty. And though it had the nice "put-together" presentation that he initially commented on, it did kind of fall apart as he was eating it. He ended up using a knife and fork to finish the burger. On our next visit, I went straight for a bowl of soup, which happened to be Cream of Mushroom ($9) and a small house salad ($7). My husband ordered the Pear and Bacon Salad ($15) and we supplemented with an order of Chicken Wings ($13.50). The wings were a bit much, given the amount of food we had. They were decent, but I wouldn't get them again. Neither of us expected the salad my husband ordered to be so very big. They filled that salad bowl full of greens and thick-cut bacon, which my husband enjoyed immensely. Meanwhile, I was quickly falling in love with the cream of mushroom soup. It sounds so bland, doesn't it? I don't know what they did in the creation of said soup, but it ended up with a magical smooth, earthy, creamy concoction that I polished off in no time. The beers we ordered over the two visits were also quite tasty, and we did end up with our favorites (mine was the Spun Honey and the Jubelale, my husband loved the Ludwig Von Crispy and the Altbierior Motive).

Great Experience

By JDIllinois |

A great meal to go along with the great beer choices. I had the Elk Burger, and it was fantastic. Everyone at our table (5 of us) enjoyed our meal. Not the most expansive menu, but very good. On a Saturday night, we arrived very early versus our reservation time, and they were able to get us in right away. The server was also very good.

Fun and funky!

By amandamckenzie |

This place not only sells great food but also has swag for sale! You can buy all kinds of hats, shirts, beer cozies, bottle openers, signs and many other items which are all on display to the left of the front entrance. I had mac & cheese with chorizo sausage and others had the delicious looking elk burger. The food was good as was the beer.

Great upscale pub dinner

By scottcaps |

We had a 45 minute wait on a Monday night at 7:30 pm, but they text you when your table is ready so we easily passed the time at Powell's books which is 2 blocks away. Food was worth the wait. The pretzel appetizer with Monterey jack cheese and mustard dip was very good. The pub burger was delicious. The requested medium steak on my Steak Frites came out much closer to well, but was still tender and nicely seasoned. Garlic fries come with a garlic sauce and shredded cheese - the garlic is potent. The Caesar salad was very good and can be served with steak or fried chicken - the homemade potato chips instead of croutons was a fun and tasty change. Unfortunately, they were out of their only cider and out of the vodka slushies the night we went, but the vodka spiked marionberry lemonade and the Fresh Squeezed IPA hit the spot.

Great meal with gluten free

By KStaterWillTravel |

Great meal with gluten free options. We had fresh clams, lobster roll and a great burger with bacon jam. Very good food and atmosphere!

Great selection of drafts on tap

By Leslie C |

We stopped by for beer only after eating somewhere else. They have a big selection of different styles of beer along with some nonalcoholic cocktail type drinks too. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The meals we saw go by looked like large portions. I’d go back.

Loved it, excellent service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By filosab |

We love beer! Spent an afternoon in Portland, from San Diego, before heading out to Astoria. Decided to try Deschutes, so glad we did! A beautiful establishment, the nicest people work here too. We loved the porters and the lager was exceptional!!! The pub burger melted in our mouths!! We split that bad boy, and I wish I could have one right now. The bartenders knew the regulars and checked on us often. That Portland ketchup is the bomb. Can't wait to return.

Fantastic

By kjm55 |

Went for lunch, place pretty busy. However it was only about a 10 minute wait. Lots of good beer choices. Decent food menu as well. I had the crab salad sandwich, which was delicious. The split pea soup was also very good. The pork belly was awesome. Excellent service

Amazing food & beer

By Stevensfam4travels |

The best brewery food I’ve had! The garlic fries were incredible, fresh unique salads, crab roll & mac n cheese all fantastic for our large group. The service was also impeccable. I will visit again when in Portland!

Good place for lunch

By winjo1940 |

Looking for a place to eat my wife and I walked into The Deschutes Brewery and Public House. The first reaction is that it reminded us of a German beerhall. The place must hold about +200 patrions. The menu is basically burggers and sandwiches with sides, salads and soups. The Burggers are mega and if you do not eat a large lunch sharing one would be the way to go.Of course they have a large collections of brews. I had their NW fish + chips and my wife had the Smoked Pork Sandwich. Both were very tasty. When we were there the place was almost full. After getting our drinks the wait of ten minutes to order and receive our food was about 20 minutes which was OK.

The Mother Ship!

By RBrigham |

I love this place. The beer is great the food is very good, but most of all in the four ties I have been there over three years, the people have been remarkably friendly and helpful.

Best selection of beer in Portland and surrounding areas!

By TheHospitalityMom |

My hubby and I love beer and we both love all different types. We live in NC and have some amazing breweries all over here, so we were excited to hear that the Oregon craft brew festival just happened to be the same weekend we planned our trip! 🤗 We tried so many breweries while we were there AND tried many beers at the festival and they, by far, have the best! Their food was also on point! Delish and what a cool atmosphere!! Can’t say enough!

Elk burger

By mike |

While visiting a friend in Beaverton, we had dinner at Deschutes Brewery. I had the Elk burger with garlic fries and their lager beer. The burgerwas a delicious, as well as the fries and beer. I would definitely suggest getting the Elk burger. My friends had a BLT salad and Roasted Red Pepper soup. They both enjoyed their meals as well.

biggest surprise of my trip!

By nlir |

I wasn't expecting such good beer nor food when coming here, but gosh! I could say this was my absolute favorite!! The food is unbelievable good and beyond good quality, and the beer options is really excellent!! My favorite place in Portland.

Breweries galore

By amandabeattie430 |

We booked a couple of nights in Portland as part of a two week trip to America. We love our beer, so we knew this was pretty much what we were going to base our time around here. Our first stop was Deschutes and it was such a great start to our Portland Pub Crawl!! From the minute we set foot inside, the staff were really friendly, to the point where we felt as if we were total regulars here, rather than being on our first visit. We both ordered our beers - I had an amazing IPA, full of flavour and packed a punch of hoppiness - and both had burgers which were definitely not some of the cheap meat patties you so often get. The taste of the meat was delicious and we left feeling full-up and ready to take on the task of visiting as many breweries as we could in our short time here. A big thumbs-up from us.

Good brew

By Marc_and_Kim_Z |

The brew was good, food was okay. There was a sign in the restroom about brew and pizza but no pizza on the menu. There were six of us so 22% for service was added and we didn’t get great service. I wouldn’t recommend this place but I wouldn’t stop anyone from going.

Top Bar in Portland

By Daniel V |

We visit this place during happy hour. They offer a big menu for happy hour. The service was average to regular. I need to say they offered pork belly which ended up being Spanish Jamón Serrano.

Good Beer with a great atmosphere

By Steve |

Deschutes does not disappoint. Great selection of beer with a wide verity of good food to chose from. Enjoy!

Bar food when you needed it!

By Stacy N |

This was a solid spot for our arrival to Portland. It has been a long travel day, and we needed something to sink our teeth into. The mac & cheese + fried chicken strips did the trick! I'm not a beer drinker either but managed to find something I liked. Crowd was an awesome mix of locals & business types with people also there to watch baseball. A good first spot to land.

Great late lunch after hiking!

By Beth G |

Great beer and food. Four of us went for a late lunch on a Sunday. Two had the elk burger and loved it! (Better than one we had later in. CA) I had the spicy shrimp salad - awesome! We shared the pretzel appetizer and enjoyed various beer, cider and wine. Would go again when back on town

Grab a drink

By kisssmee |

Open seating at the bar or you can be seated at a table. Parking across the street for $2/hour or street parking. I came for a drink and I had a pineapple cider. The place is big and perfect for large groups. Coming here was a nice break from walking around downtown.

Bucket list for my husband

By Cryptic_Tourist |

My husband was dying to go here so we came for dinner and beers. The interior is really cool and everyone who works here is super friendly. If you’re like me and you’re not a drinker, get their house made root beer. It’s SO good. I wish they sold it nationwide. I got their summer salad which was really great. I added the smoked chicken to it and oh man, so good. My husband got the salmon and he really liked that too!

Busy airport location

By Alumna01 |

We went to the PDX location (airport). It was busy and not intuitive on whether you seat yourself or wait to be seated. Then once if you can find a spot to sit, it has a QR code where you're supposed to "order and pay." It wasn't working for us, so thank goodness a server walked up and said she could take our order and deliver it. The female server was as good as she could be - seemed like she was handling the whole place single-handedly. We each had a Salmon BLT - mine with fries, his with a side salad. We both had water. Bill was $47, but what are you going to do? It's an airport location. It was fine - just a long time to wait for food and then for the bill, but she was doing as much as she could. Just don't plan on stopping in quick and then catching a flight. You need to build in time.

Great drinks, mediocre food.

By atfox1 |

This place was good. Food wasn’t spectacular though. I had the crab roll and honestly it tasted exactly like my chicken salad recipe. My husband had the pork belly and it amazing. Garlic Parmesan fries were over cooked. Tons of drinks to choose from and sangria was good. Atmosphere was trendy and space is laid out nicely. Would go back but probably just for drinks.

Much better than expected

By wfzdmd |

Excellent ‘housed brewed’ craft beer. Elk burger was fantastic. Peanut butter torte for dessert, even better. They have the system down for QR code ordering and payment - very efficient. For a “Brewery & Pubic House”, the food was surprisingly good.

A Must Visit

By Matt |

This place is amazing. Deschutes beer is always excellent and the food is great too. I recommend the peanut butter burger with a black butte porter. The wood carvings are very cool. They lend to a unique vibe.

Cool place. Must GO!

By Greg B |

Outstanding spot for ice cold beer, delicious food and cool vibe. Excellent and knowledgeable staff and top notch service.

Enjoyable convivial atmosphere

By benthere |

I like the pleasant, open, airy atmosphere, just the overall environment. On a nice day (such as when we were there) they open the large garage doors on the side and let the fresh air in. Not bad for a downtown establishment! They offer cheerful capable service, tasty meals, a good place to socialize, relax and enjoy yourself. It's very close to Powell's Books, another place we like to stop and visit. Good food, good company. What's not to like?

Scrumptious Desserts

By Cleo R |

Deschutes Brewery is fun! Great place to people watch. Wonderful burgers. The desserts were absolutely scrumptious. The cream cheese ice cream added a distinctive flavor to the Marionberry Cobbler. Obsidion Stout Chocolate Cake is perfect for a chocoholic.

Sunday eats

By Nancy S |

Sunday Brunch served till 2:30. Fresh brewed beer and food made to order. Service is exceptional. Just go to see for yourself. And if you’re lucky Carly will be your server.

Food better than expected; beers v good, but not better than most good brew pubs

By 967ModernArt |

Could’ve gone 4 or 5 stars, you decide. No reservations, long waits on the weekends. The food was very good for a brew pub; better than we expected. The beers were good too. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that the beer seemed no better than all of the other great brew pubs across the country. What can I say, the US has gotten really good at making craft brews. Still, you are not likely to find anything better in this part of town if this is the type of place you’re looking for. Enjoy!

Good Beers

By Daniel H |

Typical bar pub food and beers. Service was good though ordering was strange. If you had table seating you ordered and paid online with no opportunity to ask questions. If you sat in the bar area you had a server who could answer questions.

I liked It!

By TravelinAlan |

Excellent selection of beers, fairly priced. Limited, but good items on their menu. Very friendly service. If you like beer, be sure and check it out.

Good food and great atmosphere

By WorldTraveler |

I am giving this place five stars on the atmosphere alone. Large area, high-ceilings, great wood art, open air when the garage doors are open. The food that is served is good, especially the pretzel. Beer is okay, but I am sure there is one that you will find that you like. Service is a bit slow, but I recommend this place.

Reservations recommended

By LMSCSM |

On an early Tuesday evening, 5:30-ish we had to wait 45 minutes because we didn't have reservations. Quite surprised it was so busy on a mundane week night. Table service was great. Burgers just okay. Ordered medium well but showed up rare. Did not send back because the kitchen was slow, we had to wait a long time for our food.

Great Experience

By Matthew T |

Food is not fancy, but excellent with just enough of a twist on classics to make it interesting. Beers are also great. Lots of IPA's and PA's are definitely their focus. Not usually the beer I enjoy, but still good.

Excellent dinner!

By Joyce1927 |

Great new experience! We looked up places to eat in Portland and Deschutes was on the list! Not disappointing! We had the pretzel with beer cheese to begin with and some great IPA.

Great Food Selection for a Brew Pub

By Paula C |

Just wanted something fast and filling for our last day and was pointed here. Very satisfied with beer and food selections. Tried their meatless burger and it was great, also get the garlic fries if you like garlic and you wont be disappointed.

Well, we finally had a bad

By Blackeel63 |

Well, we finally had a bad meal in Portland. Sorry Deschutes, but your food is terrible. You overcooked the flavorless burger and forgot the bacon. My wife ordered a sandwich from the special’s menu, of turkey fontina on focaccia. She was able to overlook the long hair in her first bite but then it just got worse from there. Soggy bread, cold, flavorless fries, and the lettuce on the sandwich was merely long stringy stems. (I did hear a screech when she found the hair). Your beers are hit or miss. Perhaps it’s the “corporate” way? Either way, Deschutes is just not a good place to eat. My recommendation is not to go.

Good beer and good atmasphere

By Madison |

While we were visiting Portland, we spent one day doing a self-guided brewery tour, so obviously we stopped in at Deschutes. They have a large collections of brews, good food and a fun/party atmosphere! We had great service while we were here. I would highly recommend stopping here, but would make a reservation if you have a party of more than a couple.

Good beer and good food

By C L |

As a lover of dark beer, I tried both the stout and the porter and recommend them both. I had a delicious Thai blueberry burger that was served with tasty crisp house fries. The atmosphere is casual, plenty of seating. Staff were very helpful to many of who were out-of-towners sitting at the bar. Also a friendly neighborhood vibe here in a terrific section of downtown Portland

Amazing food and house-made Root bear!

By Deborah L |

The guys loved their beers - both flights and individual glasses. I loved the Root beer. Best I have ever had. We wanted to share some food before our actual dinner. We ordered the Beer nuts and the Mac & Cheese (added bacon & chicken). Phenomenal!!!! Wish our “real supper” was here. Gorgeous wood carvings also. The bartenders were knowledgeable and provided great suggestions. We will be back and I’m not sharing the next time.

Nice Brewery

By JStatler71 |

I enjoyed my visit here. The place was packed, but I was able to get a seat at the bar and got served right away. All of the beer options are there, so whether you want a stout or an IPA you will be able to get it. I did not eat, so I cannot comment on the food. I would definitely go back.

Great place in Portland for drinks and casual food

By skygoddess46 |

Stopped in to Deschutes Brewery after reading so much about it on our first night for a beer before dinner. We were treated really nicely and enjoyed our experience so much that we went back the next day for lunch---it was great!!! The garlic fries with melted manchengo cheese were amazing as were the other apps we shared. The welcome once again was very friendly and the staff were beyond nice. I would highly recommend this place for a casual lunch or dinner. The beer tasting menu hit the spot after walking around the very warm City Center. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful lunch--we will return.

Hub of the neighborhood

By Carolyn C |

Good food and party atmosphere. I had an elk burger which was delicious. I was in a party of 12. It was close to hotel, so great for getting in a walk.

Tasty Food and Great Beer

By Fronglay79 |

If you’re looking for a great place to eat with good food and great beer this is the place for you. We had the pretzel appetizer and went with the samplers. Food was also amazing. I would recommend the mac and cheese and Dungeness Crab Roll! My mom and I chose one and then we split them 👍🏻. Beer flights also was the way to go if you wanted to try a taste of all varieties.

Repeat offender

By Bekahblake |

During my week long trip in Portland I returned to Deschutes 3 times. The atmosphere is unbeatable and their array of beers was astounding. I really enjoyed the cherry pie sour and when in the area I will be sure to pop by again.

Love their beer

By Sunkist_10 |

We drink Deschutes Beer in our home state of Michigan and we’re glad to have the opportunity to go to the “home” bar. Lots of beers on tap. Flights are available. Bartender was great.

Pretty good

By Rachel J |

Let me first start by saying I am not a beer drinker. I went for food and not the beer. The menu is decent and everything has a interesting twist to the dish. I would not say the food was fabulous, but it wasn’t terrible. The service was good and the inside is nice.
