We went to that very typical Tex-Mex restaurant to have a late lunch. First, the decor was very beautiful and we loved the ambiance. We appreciated the food a lot and also the margaritas. About the service: it was made with a smile and very efficient. The price was also very friendly. We couln't ask for more!

6pm on a Thursday. Steady casual flow of patrons. Got the shrimp cocktail and tacos adobados. Wellll....first lets talk about the salsa...you know....that comes with the chips? WONDERFUL. Its I-want-that-recipe-cause-its-one-of-the-best-I've-ever-had good. The shrimp cocktail (and I've tried to make them)....again, one of the best I've ever had....dam good. Daniel is The Bomb....attentive, perfect timing, good suggestions, and even made sure I didn't want another margharita before happy hour closed (Heurro is the house tequila....that tells ypu something). Beans...great....Tacos..delish. This place is a "WOW". Come. To Tex-Mex heaven.

The tacos are excellent, the prices are reasonable, the environment is attractive, and the service is both friendly and efficient. The lower lunch prices extend to 3:00pm.

This restaurant has decent parking and it accepts reservations. It was a multiple winner at the Texas State Fair for its creative dishes. The servants are very friendly and the food is good. The Desperado Tacos are one of their signature dishes and it is highly recommended.

Came to town for business. Wanted Mexican food and this place was great. Enjoyed Brisket tacos and chips and queso. Very good service, would recommend.

The 4 of us were very exciting to try Desperados after how highly it rates on here and just getting to town. I think we were all a little disappointed and agreed it was fine but nothing special. The best things were the guacamole, salsa verde, and outside patio. It's busy although we went later so not top bad however our waiter wasn't great since he couldn't remember some things. The famous tacos were ok but not too amazing to any of us and we tried beef and chicken with beef being much better. Prices were ok.

It's by far the best mexican for the price! Everything we have tried on the menu is good. We go there frequently and even had our rehearsal dinner there. Can't get enough!

Stopped by Desperados on Greenville Ave in Dallas—seriously one of those places that just works. Their Desperado Tacos and margaritas really stand out

Everything we have had here is great, especially the brunch. Very solid Mexican food without all of the trendy Dallas b.s....just simple good food, great service, reasonable prices. The brunch on Sunday is A+++

Desperadoes has the best margaritas in Dallas - just ask for the "la margarita." The desperado tacos are amazing as are the fajitas. If you're lucky enough to be there on a Friday or Saturday night you'll get their brown salsa as well as their regular salsa-both are amazing but the brown sauce is only available on Fri. and Sat. Night. Enjoy!!

I like the large portion they serve, and food and services are average, nothing to brag about. This place has enough parking.

I have visited Desperados dozens of times over the past 30 years. I can't think of a single time where I had a bad experience, and the food is consistently good. Some of the best margaritas you will ever find, and the food is fantastic. Desperado tacos - fried flour tortillas with your choice of beef or chicken are incredible. I know of no other Dallas restaurant that has anything similar. Flautas are excellent as well. House salsa is good, not great, at least to me, but salsa's are very much an individual preference. Fajitas here are not my favorite, but they are good. Definitely recommended for an authentic Tex-Mex experience.

First, we had brunch and it was so tasty we went back for dinner. Excellent margaritas. Outstanding wait staff. But the food... The food! They have these things called Puffed Tacos that are definitely swoon worthy, with more flavor than I've ever tasted in a taco. They make the most ridiculously flavorful Tortilla Soup every day and I'm told they almost always sell out by 3:30 PM. Glad I was able to devour it at brunch. Everything we had was just simply delicious and seasoned perfectly. It's larger inside than it looks but the place fills up really fast so go a little early. You can thank me later...

I only expected TexMex when we walked into this restaurant. But all six of us were thrilled and surprised with the magical, unusual flavors of the food. I would recommend the crab enchiladas and also the shrimp with tequila sauce. My new favorite in Dallas. We will go back again.

Food was great. Service was great. Gotta try the guacamole as it was excellent. I had chicken fajitas, all very good. My wife enjoyed her meal as well. Yes, we will be back.

Desperado's was definitely a miss and one we wont reccomend or return to when in the Dallas area. The food down to the service was simply horrible & overpriced for the quality and quantity. The house chips are from a prebagged source and left on a warmer the salsa is fresh but lacks whole ingredients and the entrees were accompanied with dry under cooked spanish rice and sogggy vegetables. I had the bacon wrapped shrimp which arrived over cooked and dry the shrimp was so small they tried to overcompensate with cheese and pepper .The Oaxaquvnos was on the spicy side the cactus was mushy and cold we left with an expensive meal on the table and hungry.

This is my family's favorite restaurant! The food is awesome! We've eaten here countless times and have never been disappointed. Anytime we have visitors, from out of town, we take them here. They always ask to go back every time they're back in town!

Came in on cold rainy night, sat near the fireplace, drank the signature Margueritas, ate delicious crabmeat enchiladas, enjoyed a sweet conversation with one of the owners. So perfect we couldn’t wait to repeat the experience that we went back a few days later. They make eating out fine fun fabulous!

We went to Desperados for dinner with friends on our visit to Dallas. Very friendly staff and we were seated quickly. Tacos are their specialty so that is what we ordered. They were good, but not great as I expected from previous reviews I have read. The sangria was good and we enjoyed the chips and salsa. Wish I could say more, but it was just pretty standard Tex Mex food.

I love the Levy familly - have watched those boys grow up. We still prefer their tacos over anyone's! And the Steak Argentina is my favorite!

Wonderful place to eat. The food was delicious and wait staff very friendly. We only had an hour for lunch, and was able to drive a couple of miles, eat and get back in the hour. It was so good we went back two days in a row and I had the exact same meal. Will definitely go back.

The atmosphere was beautiful. The food was really good. The drinks were really tasty! Jake, the owner’s son came by several times to check on us and make sure we had good service and food. He was great! And our server Miguel was so nice and accommodating!

My husband and I came in for a late lunch, and it wasn't busy at all, so we got great service. I had the chicken fajita salad, and there was so much I could barely eat all of it. It was delicious and affordable.

Disclaimer: My wife has known the current owner for over 20 years. It is a family run restaurant with two locations; this is for the original Greenville Avenue location. This is our go to restaurant for delicious Tex-Mex food at reasonable prices and with great service. Many of the staff are long-term employees and the owner likes to walk around and say hello to the patrons and ask them how everything is going. Desperados has daily lunch specials, Sunday brunch, a margarita Wednesday and a Desperado Tacos Thursday. They do cater and can accommodate special parties. My favorites are the Tex-Mex Combo, Chile Relleno, and Steak Argentina. The food is remarkably consistent and delivered fairly quickly once ordered. They have a to kill for Mangorita (mango margarita)! Desperados has a very loyal customer base. They actively sponsor the annual St. Patrick's Day weekend events with other neighborhood businesses which is a unique experience.

Saturday night dinner here, there was about a 20 minute wait. I love the feeling of the place...felt personable and cozy. I ordered the beef tacos with beans, rice and a mango margarita. My fiance had the fajitas and a strawberry margarita. My tacos were delicious and the beans. The rice, not so much. We would definitely visit again

Based on the reviews here, chose to try Desperados. Busy night.....marg specials. Food was average. Service was slow to start, got a little better. You can find better.

The food is amazing and the staff is great!!! My favorite are their chicken tacos!! The salsa and chips are sooo good, this place is a must inexpensive and excellent service!.

We have been going to Desperados for several years and always love the food, the service, and the atmosphere. We have our favorites: taco fajita salad with beef fajitas for me and the beef fajitas for my husband. Both are a full meal and we never go away hungry.

Desperados is a regular part of my family's Christmas get together in Dallas. This year's gathering there did not disappoint. Service is impeccable, and the margaritas and guacamole were delicious. My husband and I always share fajitas, and they were terrific as expected.

Desperados satisfied my desperate craving for some great Mexican. Only days ago I visited another (nameless) Mexican joint that completely failed me. Today... Satisfaction!!! I had the cheese enchiladas with chili gravy as that's my base line comparison point when trying a new Mexican place. I've got to say Desperados ticked all the boxes for me. Check it out.

First the Desperado Tacos are exemplary. The "crispy" shell appears to be made in house and is a welcome compliment to the tasty ingredients. The al Carbon beef was pedestrian at best. The salsa provided was bland. The service was well below par as we waited an inordinate amount of time for refills and our server to return to the table for needed supplies.

I was surprised to learn that Desperados is 40 years old. I passed by it countless times in the 40+ years I lived in Dallas, but never visited. I moved out of state, but on a recent visit to Dallas ate lunch there following a visit to the nearby Bush Presidential Library. Had their signature margarita and chicken tacos. The margarita was tasty with a kick, but not too strong. The tacos have a fluffy shell rather than the hard corn variety. Just the right amount of refried beans accompany the meal. Enjoyed this lunch on their outdoor patio on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Wish I'd discovered Desperados earlier, but will definitely return.

I would come again. Nice atmosphere; quiet enough that you can hear each other. Food was excellent. Waiter/service was excellent and helpful if you have questions. There were families and only adults.

I've lived about 5 minutes of Desperados for the past 7 years, but today was my first time inside. It actually looked a lot nicer inside than I was expecting. We got seated right away, although by 8:30 when we were leaving, there was a line of people waiting for tables. We started with an order of Chili con Queso. It was cheesy and delicious and just what I needed after a long day. The queso was only slightly spicy, but still mild enough for my wife's delicate taste buds. Our waiter was super nice, but could have been more attentive. We waited way too long for a chip refill, and even then only because we asked for them. While deciding what to order, another table nearby got their plate of fajitas. The amazing smell and telltale sizzle acted like a siren song, and I couldn't resist. I promptly ordered beef fajitas for myself. After much anticipation, I ended up being severely let down. Most of the meat was cooked well, but a few pieces were fairly dry. The main problem, however, was the abundance of unappetizing, chewy gristle. There were also a dozen or so lime seeds mixed in, which I had to carefully avoid for fear of accidental ingestion. By the end of our dinner, the waiter proactively apologized for being slow. I guess that's better than nothing. Desperados continually has a wide variety of quality Mexican cuisine in a family-friendly environment. The staff is friendly and efficient. We make regular visits and is one of our favorite spots.

Desperados is not your standard faire of Mexican food. They do have items that you would find at other restaurants. They also have items like Argentina steak, which I ordered, and it was outstanding. The margaritas where great. There where five people in our group and everyone's food was outstanding. My daughter lives close by and said, " this will now be our go to Mexican restaurant." The service was very good, also.

We love this place and the Desparados tacos are incredible. I ordered them and my son snarled them and we had to order them again before a family feud broke out. Restaurant is full of character and they are very nice. I met the owner and he was so welcoming and kind. Try the sopapillas for dessert, yummm!

We went with this after the OU/TX game. We were wanting to avoid crowds and traffic and hoping to find somewhere close to our hotel. Picked this based on other trip advisor reviews. We had the BEST service (waiter was SUPER nice and helpful), good chips and salsa, REALLY good margaritas and some of the best chicken and shrimp fajitas we have ever had and we are PICKY! A really great find!

Desperados is our favorite. We used to live on the M streets in Dallas & ate at Desperados at least twice a month. Now that we live on our ranch in the Hill Country we are only able to hit our favorite place when we come up to see our kids & grandkids. Although every thing on the menu is excellent, the steak argentina is wonderful, the best item on the menu. Luuking forward to our next trip to Dallas.

Awesome food . Shrimp fajita was fantastic. Maybe it’s because we live in Georgia, it this is the best Mexican food I’ve had in years.

Tex mex is tex mex and it's great at desperados. They have a great lunch menu and fun margaritas. The queso with beef and pico is also very good. I got the Desperados tacos- they were great, but eat them quick because the meat marinade can make your shells a little soggy. My friends got the enchiladas and said they were good. The puff taco was good but kind of small. Service was very patient with us. Overall, great find, good food, great service!

Desperadoes is a local favorite with fantastic menu options and classic Mexican dishes. I had the chicken fajitas which came sizzling hot with peppers and onions, avocado, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream and fresh flour tortillas for wrapping it all up. The side of bean soup was delicious and well seasoned and a nice chance from the typical beans and rice. I enjoyed a sangria and my husband had a frozen margarita which is one of their specialties. The chips and salsa were fantastic and deliciously salty! I would recommend this for couples, families or anyone passing through Richardson! If your appetite isn't huge but you are looking for a great bar this is absolutely one of the best!

My wife and I stopped by here for lunch on our anniversary weekend trip. ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT!!!! Staff was wonderfuly friendly, and the food was amazing. Will definitely be coming back here....

At our table we had the Quinoa Bowl, ceviche, Chili & a combo with chicken enchilada, taco & guacamole tostada. Everything was delicious!! The service was great, never ran out of drink or chips. Highly recommend!!

I had the Desperado tacos (one beef and one chicken) with a side order of guacamole. The best tacos and the best guacamole I have ever had. I've been to Avila's in Dallas which I really liked, but this was way better. Coworkers loved their meals too (brisket tacos). Prices are very reasonable.

Absolutely delicious. This has become our favorite Mexican food. Can't go wrong with anything. Crab tacos, brisket tacos, charro beans, guacamole - all fantastic. Parking can be a hassle though.

Me and my fiance' enjoy dining out - a LOT - and we especially love mexican/tex-mex restaurants. In our many years, Desperados has the best tacos (the Desperado tacos) we have ever tasted! We have been there 5 times in the last 2 months. It starts with the homemade tortilla, and continues with the awesome meat, fresh avocado, awesome salsas, fresh cheese, and pico/herbs/cilantro on the inside. We always start with the guacamole, which we love because is has some chunkiness to it. Make sure to ask for the green tomatillo sauce with your chips - it is AWESOME! Love this place and SO wish they had outdoor seating!

Desperados seemed to be very busy but they got us in very quickly. The Desperados tacos were outstanding and my friend enjoyed the chicken enchiladas. I wasn't crazy about the chips and salsa but that's okay the meal more than made up for them. The chips were a little too thick and the salsa was more spicy for my taste.

I don't know where to begin! The strawberry margarita was perfect. Guacamole was perfect. Chicken tacos were perfect. And finishing it off were the sopapillas which were perfect. I only regret that we don't live here so I can come back!

We went to Desperados based on the Tripadvisor´s recommendations. The place was dark and old. Service was OK. Food was OK, but nothing we would say let´s go back. Price on the high end which makes the restaurant even less attractive. We will not visit again.

This restaurant offers unique menu items and good service. If the menu item has an award picture by if; try it! You will not be disappointed. The owner of the restaurant was making rounds to check on tables, which is rarely seen, but was a great touch to the service. He was so kind and engaged us in conversation for a few minutes. He was curious about us and why we were in town, as well as how we heard about his place. As we left, he said goodbye and used our names. It truly enhanced our experience. Ask for Jake and say hello. He will enjoy your company, and you will enjoy his hospitality. :)

Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! Not much atmosphere in this cave- like dark restaurant, but the food was tasty! Authentic salsas that are fiery and flavorful. I had beef and shrimp fajitas and they were mouthwatering! The shrimps were big like prawns and grilled just right. Tasted the tacos and the tortilla soup and those were just as good! Check this place out if you like authentic Tejano Mexican food!

Great margaritas, the Desperado Tacos are the reason we go whenever we are in Dallas. It’s easy to get to, excellent service, a solid choice for decent Mexican food.

Excellent service. Excellent food. Excellent margaritas! Honestly the best tacos I’ve ever had… and I’ve eaten Tex-Mex now going on 40+ years.

We came to Dallas to do the Margarita Mile. Over the 2 days we went to 15 restaurants/bars and Desperados was hands down the best! The La Margarita was our absolute favorite. We went back the second day for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the Depserado Tacos, Bacon Wrapped Shrimp and Brisket Flautas. Everything we had was delicious! In addition to great food and drinks, the owner Jake made the trip memorable with his personal interaction and unmatched hospitality. He gave us good recommendations and lots of laughs. We will definitely visit again anytime we are in Dallas! We highly recommend Desperados!

We have been going to Desperardos since 1999 and it is always very good. I recommend Chicken Itza and fajitas.

My sister's favorite restaurant is Desperados and reserves tables in the back room there 3 - 4 times a year for family and friends to get together. I really like the restaurant, and would go more often, but they're located on upper Greenville in East Dallas, about a half-mile north of Mockingbird Ln., which is about a good 20+ mile drive from my home. Desperados has been open since 1976, but I've only been going for the last six years or so. On our most recent visit, I noticed that there was a new restaurant that had opened on the south side that was now taking up a good bit of what use to be part of Des- perados parking spaces. Now there is very limited parking, and what they do have is difficult to get in and out of. Most likely, even if you're lucky enough to find a parking spot, you will still need to plan on a long wait once you're inside (on many nights) to get a table. Depending on where you're seated, you might feel cramped, because it seems like there are more tables than space and it's usually crowded. Aside from the lack of parking, a long wait at times, and cramped seating, everything else is terrific - no kidding. The wait staff has always been very good: accommodating, personable, and effi- cient. And while the menu prices are probably above average for Mexican food, the taste is great. Their fajitas, for example range from $12.29 to $17.99. I always order a combo meal with two different kinds of enchiladas and a guacamole tostada which is a little less than $10. I haven't been disappointed yet. Desperados, while not my favorite Mexican restaurant, is still worth a visit if you haven't tried it, especially if you live in the East Dallas neighborhood and love great Mexican food like I do.

Ate at this restaurant 2nd week it was open and have been eating here ever since. Solid Tex-Mex and especially like their soft cheese taco - only place I know that makes this particular food item. Puffed taco also very solid. Cheese enchiladas are as good as they get - they top with chili con carne and not chili gravy. Never had a bad meal at this restaurant.

We had a fantastic meal here this evening. Started with the Mexican Shrimp Cocktail. Had Desperados tacos, crab enchiladas, chicken tortilla soup, and tacos al carbon. We finished it off with sopapillas. Food was very good, maybe a bit greasy, but perfectly Tex-Mex.

Had a very enjoyable meal here for dinner on Jan 26, 2019. The restaurant is cozy, but our group was given a nice corner table for 7 or 8. We were promptly provided with Tortilla Chips and a rich and mild red sauce as well as a more peppery and spicy green sauce. We requested the fresh guacamole as an app and it came quickly with a nice mix of avocado, tomato, garlic, jalapeño, cilantro, shredded iceberg lettuce and 2 large red onion rings. It was quite tasty! We ordered the Shrimp Fajitas and a Shrimp dish that featured grilled shrimp with a chimichurri sauce (heavy garlic flavor yum) rice with peas and carrots and zucchini. Excellently prepared and presented. The Fajitas were also excellent with the flour tortillas being particularly outstanding. Put some of the chimichurri sauce on a couple of the fajitas! Wowzers that was good. Prices reasonable at $13-18 per entree. Very tasty Sangria as well. Highly recommend if you are visiting NE Dallas/SMU Area.

Being from San Antonio, TX I take Tex-Mex very serious and Desperados is as good as any Tex-Mex in San Antonio. We walked in with a large party (good we called ahead) and were immediately seated by the friendly hosts. Chips and salsa arrived at the table almost before we all sat down. Our drink order was immediately taken and within minutes we were all enjoying ice-cold beers. We were exploring the menu with the owner came to table and asked if he could make suggestions. We allowed him to order for the entire table and the good was amazing. This is a great restaurant that has been in business for many years and with the service and quality of food that we received it will stay in business for many more years. We are looking forward to our next visit.

This place was better than I thought it would be! The service was great and the food was good as well! Restaurant was clean and did not have a long wait.

Close by our hotel. Small outdoor dining area. Several small dining areas inside. Our food was delicious. Pollo San Lorenzo was great with garlic, chipotle, cilantro and olive oil - but you better like fresh garlic. Warm chips and two different salsas to start. Guacamole was excellent as well.

Chicken tacos on corn shell (hard) was perfect. My hubby had Taco albañil and that was good as well. All the beans with exception of refried beans have pork in them. The restaurant was not much in the looks department (old mexico), I thought it was just a little dark inside but don't let that stop you from attending. Its a solid spot. I left full and satisfied. 3 drinks, 2 full course meals. $50. 5 miles from Dallas love field airport. Sorry I don't have a photo, we starting eating too quickly. Hope you enjoy.

Had dinner there last night. Started with the cerviche which was outstanding and there was plenty to share. Had the shrimp tacos with the homemade shells. They were simply delicious. My mom and son had enchiladas which also looked great. Margaritas were nice a frozen. They really hit the spot. I would come back again if I'm ever back in town.

My wife raved about this place when she came with her mother a few weeks ago. I thought there was no way it was as good as she told me it was. Man was I wrong. We went there for lunch last week and I couldn't believe it. First of all the staff was sooooo nice. When we arrived it was raining outside and we got umbrella service to the door. The waitress was very attentive but but did not hover. We immediately got warm fresh tortilla chips and great salsa. Our lunches came out within minutes and it was hot ,fresh, and delicious. I can't wait to go again

Great food, great service, fun atmosphere, family friendly, great value! Everything you could want in a neighborhood TexMex place! We go every week, sometimes twice.

Even though I have lived in Dallas most of my life, I had never been to Desperados. Thanks to TripAdvisor, I found it, and we decided to check it out. We started with some queso and it was very yummy. I got a Texas Tornado (at $6.50 was a great deal) to drink, and while it was very sweet, it also packed a little punch. It's not a Mambo Taxi from Mi Cocina, but it was pretty good. I got the pick 3 off the Tex-Mex menu and enjoyed my cheese tacos and guacamole tostada. Overall the meal was decent and the service was good (even though we showed up at 9:00 pm on a Saturday night). I would go back if I were in the area again, but I probably won't go out of my way to return (we live about 45 minutes from the location off Greenville). If you want a decent Mexican food meal, and you are in the area, check this place out.

They have a lot going for them. Great ambiance. Extensive menu. We’ll trained staff. Wife’s Margarita was excellent. Our quezo appetizer was nice and the chips were tasty. Unfortunately, the food is just average. Neither of our Mexican plates were hot. Both were Luke warm, at best. A bit overpriced.

While in Dallas for business I found this place on trip advisor and it was a 10 min walk from my hotel. I was greeted at the door and seated right away at a cozy table by the fireplace . Fresh hot chips and salsa came and after ordering and getting a very good traditional margarita ordered my food . I recommend the brisket stuffed chili relleno !!! I'm telling you this place is good. Sooo good I told my coworkers and 4 of them went the next night and agreed .... Great food very nice service and atmosphere :) The owner came over and introduced himself we talked for a while ! I can't wait to be back in Dallas just to go here! Enjoy it !

Desperado's is a staple in Dallas, and I have been there many times. But today at lunch we were awfully disappointed. I expect so much more from this restaurant! Our chips were stale, service was slow and inattentive, my tablemate's soup was spilled all over her plate which made her taco very soggy, and my plate was only lukewarm at best. To top it off, our waitress wanted to argue about what was/wasn't included on a plate (lettuce, of all things!) instead of just offering to go get us some lettuce. It just was not up to par for Desperado's, sadly. I know they can do better. We will likely return and hope this was just an aberration.

Had lunch and it could not have been better. It ranks with my favorite places in Houston. Fresh ingredients, great service and a great value. You will not be disappointed.

Food was just ok. Service was the same. Waitress didn't know the menu and argued with us on what came with a specific entree. After reviews and several items on the menu that were "award winning" we went in with high expectations. I would have rather made ramen, stayed in my pjs and saved myself 80 bucks.

Great overall experience. Loved the warm salsa with the chips. Chicken Itza was fresh, grilled chicken. My wife's chicken tortilla soup was a broth full of fresh chicken and vegetables. Service was a little slow, but the server was very accommodating.

Decided to go somewhere new with the family last weekend, and was in for a surprise. I love Mexican food, but this place just put a whole new meaning to it. The inside was pretty typical of a Mexican restaurant. The food is another story, the salsa for the chips was just the start. I had the house special burrito and my wife had the shrimp fajita. The shrimps are HUGE, my burrito was delightful. I think the secret is they actually cook everything fresh, from scratch, the way it should be! I'm not sure, but this place deserves 5 stars that's for sure.

On a recent Sunday evening visit our family had a variety of dishes, all wonderful! We started with a half size Special Platter, which hit the spot. The shrimp and the fish tacos were a big hit! We liked the flavors in all items. Service was great and parking simple. A great spot for a family dinner.

We found the little restaurant to have very good food and wait staff. Everything came out hot and well prepared. This was not your standard fast food fare, but good well prepared Mexican food in large quantities.

Defiantly the delicious Tex Mex I was looking for! It's a little hard to find, it comes out of nowhere. But the atmosphere is nice and the staff is friendly. Try the kalula cake, it's heavenly!

It's been around for years but they still have what it takes. Good service and great food at a good price. We were seated promptly for dinner and enjoyed our time to visit with chips and salsa (and queso dip). All three of the entrees were fix well and hot, Can't go wrong at Deperados

Just sort of like any other tex mex place. We sampled the menu but found nothing. Nothing stood out. About the same as chain food.

Tacos were the best. Salsa was a little too spicy for this gringo. If you have a sensitive tongue, be careful. Food was perfect spice. We were just visiting Dallas for work but would come again to desperados next time we are here.

Saw this while driving one day. Thought we would stop in. We rarely do new Tex-mex places because we have our favorites. I wish we had stuck to what we know. This place is bad. I have had better frozen dinners and jar salsa and bagged chips. Wow. I’m still shocked. If I were more of an outspoken person, I would have asked for my money back. That is a first. They don’t make any of their tortillas in house. The rice is right off the buffet line kind of taste. The enchiladas (I had a beef and a cheese) were lukewarm at best. Tortillas were falling apart and had zero flavor. The con carne on top was somewhat reminiscent of Tex-mex, but barely. My wife’s meal was completely cold. The cheese inside wasn’t even melted. 1:20pm on a Sunday. I am flabbergasted at the positive reviews on here. How? This is BY FAR the worst Tex-Mex in Texas. It reminds me of small town Arkansas or Georgia Mexican food. All cans and jars. Stay away.

On Vacation - 2nd year here.(Texas State Fair) We had Tex Mex and a Pastel de Cuatro Leches desert. They come vanilla or chocolate, best we have ever had. We will be return if we come back this way.

I've never eaten here before, and it had been roughly 15 years since my wife was last there. We ate here for lunch, after tax, before tip we ate for $20. I did a copy paste from the website menu, including a description: " Guizo De Pollo Con Salsa Verde Juicy chicken breast morsels cooked in a fresh cilantro-tomatillo sauce with onions, comino and garlic. "The BEST green sauce you ever had." " The standard crisp tortilla chips and salsa were served upon seating. The salsa was very good. It was a bit "too hot/spicy" for my wife. I thought it was pretty good. It was truly delicious. This was probably just as they advertised, "The BEST green sauce you ever had.". My only complaint about this meal was there simply wasn't enough for my personal preference. I was also offered a choice of corn or flour tortilla (unlimited), beans and rice. While they may not have given me a portion size I would have preferred, I did get quite full. My wife had the Desperado Flautas. I had a bite. My complaint with these were they weren't seasoned to my liking. Again, a personal preference. They were very large, and still quite tasty. There is a small outdoor patio, or you can dine inside. The staff were attentive, very friendly, and helpful. There are several menus to choose from, (lunch, dinner, and breakfast on weekends). All in all, if you enjoy Mexican food, have either a small budget, or simply don't want to pay outrageous prices, give this place a try.

really good food, and the Texas Tornado was delicious. Portions were way too much, could have shared the fajitas and still had plenty. Wait staff were very friendly and attentive

Delicious signature Desperado's Tacos (I went with the beef), side of Mexican rice, and Leche Flan custard for dessert. Friendly & efficient service from our server Dina (sp?). Nice ambience.

Very good and reasonable prices Mexican food. Established in early 1970's -- it still has great food. Can always depend on Desperados for a great Tex-Mex meal!

This is one of my favorite Mexican food places in Dallas. Very authentic. The food is fresh and well-made. The menu is varied and everything I have ever had at this place is very good. The staff is excellent as well. The managers pay close attention to everyone and make sure everything is done well. Surprising fact: the iced tea at this restaurant is very good. Sometimes I stop by the bar just to have a glass of iced tea.

My wife loves the hot sauce & wuadaches ( not sure about spelling) poached egg on sandal shaped tortilla. I love the enchiladas. The staff is real cool & attentive.

Thursday night is taco night at Desperados'. Their desperado tacos are superb, I replace the side beans with some tortilla soup for $0.75. Their queso is just okay, as well as their guac but that doesn't make a difference to me. We go there all the time but it asked for a specific date.

Did not expect the crabmeat enchiladas to be much- but they were delicious! And so fresh! Plus the service was awesome and the staff is so friendly.

The Atmosphere is great! The food and drink not! The Margarita on the rocks was all rock and no Magaritia, the liquid tasted like a drink that had been sitting behind the bar melting for a while. NO FLAVOR! The food that followed was no better. Chicken enchiladas on the Tex Mex menu. The tortillas on the enchiladas were stiff and hard. The rice looked like such a small amount on the plate. At best it was two tablespoons. Maybe 1/8 of a cup of refried beans. The plate was not even warm. The service was just as bad. The bill came quickly but no refill on water and never a second drink request. Just don't waste your time here.

Once again TA guided us to a very good restaurant. We live in near Dallas but seldom are in the area where this restaurant is located. I would go back again without hesitation were i to want a very good Mexican lunch or dinner. The hostess and seating process were fast and efficient. I liked to Mexican decor and the fact that the place is broken up into several rooms, which keeps the noise low. The chips and salsa were very good. I had their Friday fish taco special, which is made with catfish, rather than more traditional choices. It offered a stronger but very good flavor. My wife's cheese enchiladas, with a Mexican ranchero sauce instead of the standard chili-based sauce was excellent.

We were told about this restaurant from friends who live in the area. This family run and owned business is one of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever been to. The recipes are authentic and a few have been passed down through their family. It is cozy and friendly. The Marguerites are made with fresh limes...delicious! Everything on the menu is excellent. If you are in Dallas or in Garland (Desperatos #2) give it a try!

Great food. I tried the fresh award winning guac, tacos, and the lime margarita. Chips and salsa were good too. Great service.

Every time I go to Dallas I eat at Desperados. Fantastic food ESP the chicken dishes (5 choices). Good Guacamole Great service I think it's off many peoples radar but we always live the food. Highly recommended

Best tex mex I've ever had. I live in San Antonio. Desperado taco is what you want to get. Margaritas are great but I've heard they aren't as good as they used to be. I've also tried the desperado flautas and they were also amazing!

Worse because of how I thought and heard this place is but really bad. Stale chips to start. Guac uninspired and presentation weak. Gnats all over the hot stifling restaurant. Literally warm air coming out of vents. Food came out super fast so bad sign. Wife’s quinoa bowl terrible. Carne asada aight but nothing special. Overall, nothing even remotely authentic and just a boring cookie cutter “Mexican” experience.

Ever since I was at a function catered by Desperados, I wanted to go to the restaurant. It's a haul for me, but I was nearby so popped in. The food is very good. I built a little combo plate with a beef enchilada, a chicken enchilada, and puffy taco. All were very good. Taco was unique, but it was also a little on the greasy side. Still, very tasty. One margarita was more than enough. All around, a good experience.

After a TCU football game we were looking for a good meal. We were not disappointed. All of our meals were excellent. My Chicken Itza meal was very flavorful - chicken was very tender and Mexican squash was excellent. Was not too crowded and service was very good too.

Terrible service. I think his name is Shun the waiter has non customer service attitude. He didn't want to serve us. He is pushy and acted like he was irritated by our presence. He brought out the wrong meal for us and didn't want to change it. I told him that we are leaving and he says alright. I told him that i will talk to the manager and he says he doesn't care. We went to the manager for help and he says that the waiter usually does not act like this. He makes it sound like we are the problem with that statement. . The manager did not help us. He did not offer another waiter or any alternative. I don't know how other African Americans feel in this restaurant but I felt that my waiter didn't want to help me because of racial situations. I perceived that the manager didn't care if we stayed or not. I have gone to this one and the one in Richardson with my wife and coworkers of garland isd. I think I'm done with them.

We went here due to our flight being cancelled. Food was really good and freshly made. Although they were about to close they still offered to serve us dinner and it was delicious.

We dropped by here on a whim for Saturday lunch. How has this place not been on our radar all these years? Hubby had a Brunch offering of the Tex Mex eggs Benedict. Cooked to perfection! I had the steak desperados tacos. Steak was seasoned perfect and so tender. Our daughter had the chicken desperados tacos. We added a side of rice. Fluffy and light. Our other daughter had a beef enchilada with queso and a chicken sour cream enchilada. The chicken was moist and had flavor as did her sour cream sauce. Executed perfectly. The salsa was just the right consistency and right bit of heat. The queso bandido was a nice start. Our waiter, Alonso, was attentive, but not hovering. He brought what we needed when we needed it. We will definitely be back as this place is now in our top 5 Tex Mex places! We even bought a jar of salsa to take home and a couple of their cute t-shirts. We loved the decor and quirky seating rooms.

Hotel recommend this place for tex mex. I think back in the day this might have been a great place. Now there are too many other places that have a more recent menu. Food was just a cut above a frozen dinner, while the drinks were good. Good value for the dollar.

If you want a taste of honest to goodness TexMex give Desperado’s a try. All the dishes are good but they excel at the central Mexican specialties (found on the far right on the menu) like Steak Argentina, Steak Yucateco, Chicken Itza, and Crabmeat Enchiladas. If you like a tart margarita, try The Traditional with fresh squeezed line juice for a real treat. There are lots of Mexican restaurants in Dallas but it just doesn’t get better than this.

We eat here quite a bit, and it has always been good quality Tex-Mex food. I came here in 1979 with a good friend who lives in Lubbock. This was the place everyone had recommended to her for us to go. My friend and I loved it, as did our husbands. Everyone is very nice, and the food is consistent. The chile Relleno is excellent!

This place was recommended by two locals, but we weren't blown away. It seemed kind of old inside, and the food was average. The service was great, however.

Went here for dinner the other night. Excellent service and good food. We had the fajitas and the chicken enchiladas. Both were tasty. We'll certainly be back!

We were greeted promptly and our drinks were served quickly. We tried their award winning Margarita and it's easy to see why it has won so many awards. Our food was delicious! It was the best Mexican food I have enjoyed since we moved away from the southwest. It was served piping hot. We did also try the "house" Margarita and it was good (especially for the price.) Our server checked with us frequently and was very nice. We enjoyed the entire experience.

Old style Mexican restaurant in Dallas. Focus on customer service. very enjoyable eveninh. The decoration are mexican flare & it is a colorful place. The Guac was freshly made. The Margs are just Ok, but we did order a pitcher. The Pico was freah and sour cream too. The chips = ok. The sampler appetizer plate was excellent and almost a meal. Take it home for the next day. The chicken enchiladas are fine. the pepper stuffed with cheese were fine. Crowded so that is a testimony. Service was terrific.

I been coming to this restaurant for almost 20 years and always the food and the service been study .food is typical tex-mix in a home cooking style .you know what to expect when you go their service always been friendly . I recommend the place for any one looking for a simple tex-mix place

...went with the highly recommended/reviewed Desperado tacos - one beef, one chicken. They deserve the praise. Excellent. Good house 'ritas too. I'd come back.

Tacos in the evening and Omlets in the morning. Add a "LaMargarita" and it's perfect. Both are delicious and the waiters make any wait worthwhile. A great eating experience while in Dallas.

We visited this restaurant in a large group on a Friday after a beloved family member’s funeral. We all needed a welcoming atmosphere and good food. And we found it. We ordered everything from fajitas to tamales/enchiladas, avocado salad and an appetizer platter. All superb. Cooked to perfection and served by a friendly and professional staff. Fabulous. As an addendum, my husband inadvertently left his credit card. When I called to check, the lovely Susanna checked with the manager, it had been found, and since we live 2 hours away, they offered to send it to us. Now that, friends, is service. We’ll be back, we will recommend, and we greatly appreciate the staff at Desperado Uno.

We went for dinner Friday evening, around 6:30 pm, and were seated immediately (by 7, there was a wait!). Chips and salsa were delivered and drink orders were taken promptly. Food was ordered and the wait time was minimal! Our server was attentive but not over-bearing, and water/tea glasses were filled regularly. The food was delicious - I even had a special request that was handled with no problem! Tacos Albanil, Steak Argentine, and Fish Tacos were all delicious!! The Bean Soup is AMAZING, and the nachos were ooey-gooey with lots of cheese!!

Me & hubby have been coming here since they opened. George use to be here & ran the place! Sweet man. Now his boys run both restaurants. One on Greenville and one on Campbell though the original holds our hearts. We unfortunately came on St Patrick day parade day🙄. Margaritas in a plastic cup, not great service but the Desperado Tacos were still fantastic as always! My husband even had them cater my 60th (several years ago). Great food run by great family!!

Stopped for a quick business lunch. Service was prompt and friendly. I enjoyed the spicy salsa served with the basket of chips. As the menu indicated their tacos had won a lot of accolades, I opted for the beef Desperados tacos. The fresh avocado was a nice touch; I would have added a bit more cheese than the small amount of queso blanco at the bottom. But the high point was the hot, crispy homemade taco shells - never had anything like these before. Yum. Ended up buying a jar of their salsa for $4 to take home and enjoy. Reasonably priced as well. Would have liked to try a margarita.

My daughter's family and I found this Mexican restaurant on Lower Greenville. We were looking for a good Mexican restaurant, and Desperados filled the bill perfectly. We could not eat inside, due to the Quarantine, but we ate in the car. The taste and quality of the food made the difference. I ordered the Shrimp Desperados Tacos and I was delighted with the way the tortilla shells were cooked. My daughter ordered the Tex-Mex, and grand daughter had the Fajitas. We were all very pleased.

We went to Desperado's for their anniversary taco night. Good food, HUGE tacos, and the service was particularly fast. Good, fast mexican fare.

If you're from out of town and you miss this place you've really done yourself a disservice. It's absolutely, positively the best food North of Downtown. The restaurant has been owned by the same family since Mexican food was invented. It's a staple on Greenville Avenue.

OMGosh, I was looking forward to introducing Desperados to my family and friends as we visited Dallas for the OU-Texas game. My frequent visits in the 80s were always a treat including sitting behind Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall one time. But even with reservations, my party of six received slow service to the point of making a comment to the manager after 50 minutes waiting for our entrees. The server also acted disinterested. Meanwhile, the chips were stale, the queso okay, the stuffed jalapenos from a frozen state like from Sam's Club, and our entrees reminded us of old-fashioned TV dinners. I was embarrassed after all my hype and it was disappointing when there are so many creative Tex-Mex places in Dallas. This landmark is now a relic I'll never mention again.

Delicious food and generous portions authentic and delicious. Excellent value and delightful service.

For lunch at noon on a Friday, I was fully expecting to fight for a parking spot and wait for a table. Neither of those things happened. I was able to get a spot and a table immediately. It started to fill up quickly, but there were still a free tables around me that were open. Granted, it's a holiday weekend, so they may not be as busy as they normally are. The wait staff was very quick and attentive to our food and drinks. They were knowledgeable of the menu and shared their recommendations. My standard of Mexican restaurants is the sour cream chicken enchiladas, so I got two of those and a beef enchilada. The food came out incredibly fast, which was great for having to be back at work at a reasonable time. Unfortunately for me, the sour cream sauce was a bit flavorless. I had to add pepper, which I almost never do. The rice and beans were good, but the beef enchilada was excellent! I'll definitely be back, especially since I'm interested in their breakfast menu. I was disappointed by the chicken enchiladas, but that didn't stop me from having very good experience for my first time here.

This was the second visit in a row that the food hasn't been as good but the real issue this time was the service. When we arrived, there was no one waiting for a table. We had a party of five and were told there would be a 30 to 35 minute wait, which we thought was weird since their were empty tables visible. We weren't seated for almost an hour. Our room had zero patrons at other tables, we were the only people there, so why make us wait an hour? Then no one would wait on our table. After 15 minutes we flagged someone down, who informed us he was not our waiter. We asked for someone that could take our order. No one came. We flagged down a second person, who also would not take our order and informed us that they were trying to figure out who was taking care of our table. I'm not sure why that would be confusing. So we're all still waiting while 5 waiters stand around within earshot arguing over who's going to take our order. Sorry our presence was such an inconvenience, maybe if you hadn't made us wait an hour just to sit down you wouldn't be dealing with this now.

BEST MARGARITA'S, FOOD and wait staff!!!! My favorite Mexican Resturant, happy hour margaritas all day Wednesday, my favorite place in Dallas😍. I have been frequenting there for 20+ years.

Neat little restaurant tucked in on Greenville Ave. Great food. Warm chips and two types of salsa! Please try their Desperado Tacos! Yum!!! I'm ready to go back

Old school Tex Mex decor with some really great food can be found here! This is defiantly not a "mexican" restaurant but good old fashioned Tex Mex in an establishment that doesn't look like it's been updated since it opened 40 or so years ago. Don't get me wrong, it has been kept up well and is really sort of ketchy. Had the guacamole as an appetizer and it had to be some of the best that I have ever had. Fresh, great seasoning and just the right amount of citrus. Chips were crisp and fresh to go along with it. All of our main courses were well prepared, no where near greasy and seasoned to perfection. Being here with a group of 26 people, the service was fantastic! No, it was phenomenal! Our waiter had our orders delivered accurately from a fast kitchen and he and the support staff kept our drinks refreshed. Being in such a large group and needing a split check he acted like he did it all the time. Never sensed a hint of him seeming like it would be painful but rather he just kept on making it feel like it was his pleasure for us to be there. That is something you rarely see any longer. Great job by Desperados! I will be back!

On our visit to this restaurant, we ordered one taco for each of us. The description on the menu was "flash fried" corn taco with brisket filling. If this tortilla was "flash fried", it was in room temperature oil. The torilla was limp and oily - not good at all. The brisket filling was mushy and flavorless. Then, to top it all off, the bill was almost $15 - for two tacos and a small bowl of beans. We will not be returning to this place ever again!

I quite enjoyed this restaurant if you are looking for a Tex Mex place with a bit of a twist its a perfect choice. We had margaritas which were super cheap (not sure if that was a fluke or not). But I would definitely return!

Had a couple hours to kill and went looking for a new place to eat. Wow this place did not disappoint. I had the crab enchiladas and they were extremely flavorful and the veggies that went with them were some of the best I've had. Hubby had the Desparado tacos and loved them too. Flavor upon flavor and fresh taco shells. Definitely will be back here!

First visit to this restaurant was opening week in September, 1976. 37 years of consistent flavors and tastes. Jorge Levy founded this restaurant using his mother's handed down recipes for food. It was the best tasting Tex-Mex and seafood based Mexican food then, and the same recipes are still used today. We try and dine there at least every two weeks because it always is a fulfilling meal that tastes wonderful. They've expanded to include a Richardson location and it too serves food based on grandma's recipes. So, we've dined with them for 37 years and never have they disappointed us.

I tried the Desperados beef tacos. They flash fry the taco shell, and the taco is filled with chunks of beef (not ground beef), with cheese on the bottom of the shell and pico! Different and very tasty! My wife had a beef and a cheese enchilada. Both were great. The refried beans were wonderful. Their menu is diverse and full of unique dishes. Our basic frozen margarita was good! Our service was outstanding.

Our office enjoys eating lunch at Desperados because the restaurant has very good food at good prices. The location makes it easy to get there and back to the office on time.

Yummm!!!!! Everything was delicious, starting with the perfect chips and tasty salsas. The margarita and Texas Tornado (frozen margarita/sangria swirl) were delicious and quite the steal at $3.50. (That's the price on weekdays until 7 PM and all day Sunday. I don't know about Saturdays.) The guacamole appetizer was light and vibrant with nice chunks of tomatoes. If we'd known we'd be ordering an entree with guacamole we might have tried a different appetizer, but this tasted too good to repine. My companion had the crabmeat enchiladas. They didn't have large lumps of crabmeat, but the crab flavor permeated them. The tasty green sauce didn't hurt, either. I had the Pollo San Lorenzo, which was beautifully cooked and tied together beautifully with the Mexican rice. I only got this because the waiter recommended it, but I was very happy with the choice. I should say that the waiter was very attentive and service was prompt. Desperados Uno is also decorated in a very charming way destined to appeal especially to people looking for the quintessential Tex-Mex experience.

This place was absolutely amazing. We went there because we were part of a Christmas Lights Tour group. We had the tacos and queso, they were great. Would definitely go back!!!

Went there for lunch today. The chips were a little stale so we asked for a new batch that were better. We had 4 meeting for our quarterly lunch and each got something different. It was all reported as good but I'm sure mine was the best! Desparado's Taco's with chicken. Very good.

One of the best tex-mex places in town. The Desperados Tacos are really good- a must try if you go. Staff was extra friendly and food was excellent.

My husband I were in TX for a gathering and wanted a traditional tex-mex meal. We had tried another location in Fort Worth a couple days before and were sadly disappointed. This restaurant was anything but disappointing. Every dish was fabulous, service was superb, and the margaritas were yummy. We will be back later this year on our next trip.

We love Desperados! The Desperado Tacos are delicious every time! My mother-in-law requests to eat here every time she is in Dallas. We always have great service here too. Can't complain!

We went over the weekend and it was pretty busy but they were pretty prompt with their service. The parking lot is very small but they have additional peaking space across the street. The good was great! The drinks even better. Definitely recommend the Texas Tornado. It's was delicious! Our server Joel P was very attentive and courteous. My sister is vegetarian and she had ordered the cheese enchiladas and when the food came out the enchiladas had chili on it. Joel saw that she was scrapping it off and told her he could bring her ones with a different sauce. That was very nice of him. Usually other places they see her doing that and they just walk past her. We would definitely come back! Great service, food and atmosphere!

Amazing authentic Mexican food, excellent chips and salsa, and nice house margarita. The owner stopped by the table and was super friendly, and shared that his father had started the restaurant in 1976 and they pride themselves on affordable high quality food. The value, especially for current restaurant prices, is unbeatable, and it's clear they are committed to this way of doing business. I was in town for my daughter's collegiate swim meet at SMU, but if I lived here Desperados would definitely be my go to for great Mexican food.

This is Texas, so there are so many Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants that you can't turn around without seeing one. Desporados is one of the very best, in my opinion. The food is great, from the chips and salsa, to the fajitas which have one of the best marinades around. There prices are good as well! A must try.

Good authentic Mexican food went there with 12 people and had a very nice time. Service was quick and waitress was wonderful and pleasing. Will go agian.

My husband and I came in for a wedding and ate here once for lunch it is one of the best places we have ever been!! The desperado tacos are the very best and we havent found a place that serves better! !!!! We cant wIt to come back!!!

wow, this place rocks. On everyone else's recommendation, I had the guacamole which was one of the best I've ever had, taco's were great and OMG the rancho beans were the BEST I've ever had. The waiter Jesus was great. The chicken in the taco was grilled and spiced to perfection. Very casual and relaxed atmosphere. Not expensive if you're getting tacos.

One of our favorite Tex-Mex spots in Dallas, and there are a lot to choose from. I like the fajitas - they include all of the necessary garnishments, you don't have to ask for a side of guacamole, or sour cream. My husband gets the chili rellano. Good margaritas. Friendly service.

While traveling on business to Dallas recently, I had the pleasure of having lunch at this great establishment. From the moment I tasted the salsa, I knew it was going to be a great experience. It was possibly the best salsa and tacos I have ever tasted. The taco shells I would describe as soft, but crispy, which when combined with the cheese at the bottom before the chicken or beef is added, keeps the taco together until the end. Very nice. I will be sure to get to this restaurant again the next time I am in Dallas. Fantastic food and great value. I would like to see them add salsa to their on-line gift store.

If you want to have a real Mexican dining experience, go to Desperados. The place is small but comfortable. The decor is understated but authentic. And the food is just plain good. The chips and salsa are original, and the traditional Mexican meals really hit the spot.

You can tell a lot about a Tex-Mex restaurant by the chips and salsa. How good was this salsa?! We bought a jar to take home! Our server even gave us an container of their fresh salsa to take home, too. I loved their chicken enchiladas - the meat was flavorful and juicy. You also need to try Tacos Albañil their famous "brisket tacos" - I stole one from my daughter's plate. (they give you three). The decorations inside are lovely, I even snapped a few photos to try and recreate in watercolor.

I've dined at a lot of tex-mex places in my time and have to say this place is up there with the best. I was in Dallas with my brother for a concert and we decided to try Desperados because of the great reviews here on Tripadvisors. I have to agree with the others. Excellent menu choices, fantastic service and good food. Quest dip was especially good. Restroom could use expansion and remodel, but ok clean. About the only thing to mention is that I don't understand why the price range on Tripadvisors mobile shows $$$. I had a puff taco, a cheese enchilada, a soft cheese taco, rice and beans for about $10. Most of the menu items I saw were under $10. About like any other Tex-Mex place, very modest cost. If this place were in my home town, I'd be a regular. Now, time for a siesta.

Casual and friendly. Great food with some refreshing selections. My favorites are the carne endiablada, chile relleno (with brisket) and fish tacos.
Dinner
This is a great restaurant and always has the best tasting food. Everything always tastes fresh and always comes out in a timely manner. The workers are always checking in and making sure everything is okay at your table.
